leia is so neglected in sw fanon (and canon) apart from being seen as everyone's Patron Saint of Girlboss.

girl is complex!!! THE MOST LIKE ANAKIN AND VADER out of anyone left in the whole galaxy!! grew up not knowing her birth mother! never got to see Shmi's grave on Tatooine like Luke did! was kidnapped and tortured as a child. had to adapt as an adopted child to members of her own family claiming she wasn't "really" an Organa yet had to lead Alderaan... and then watching it get destroyed before her eyes. carrying the guilt of BILLIONS of lives for the entirety of her own... that torment turning her into a Republic workhorse.

became a SENATOR AND GENERAL. learned she had the force at a late age and had to abandon training because she feared the death of her son, and feared her own Dark Power... never had a relationship with anyone who had her back! Han left.

twin sister to LUKE SKYWALKER (her beloved soul twin! "more myself than i am" territory!) who disappeared for years and years on her. the single exhausted pillar of the New Republic, worn down by endless decades and setbacks. an Atlas-figure who had to do her job just as vehemently as Vader did his, to reverse the terror and damage he unleashed, despite her exhaustion!

a woman who had her voice caught in her throat when she confessed teary-eyed to Luke that she knew her son "was gone" - that she couldn't save Ben like Luke saved their father. she felt like a failure. that she wasn't, as she always believed, as strong or as good or as powerful as her brother. or as deserving.

a fighter who realized just before she died that it wasn't her job to WIN. how hard that is for a fighter to accept.

ugh. leia deserves SO much more. and she deserves someone who truly loves her.

Let me just start off by saying... there is so much good fic out there!!

As I began to write more in 2020, I'll admit I wanted to be on rec lists. It occurred to me at some point that sharing the fic I'm enjoying is way more rewarding than wishing for something which is often based on luck and friendship. No shade because I absolutely will rec the work my friends make, all the time, without guilt. So I began to tag things #dreamy recs fic, and do use that tag still!

But making a list, formatting it, saying the right thing to make people click... That sounds exhausting.

So I made bookmark collections on AO3 instead!

Originally written for three separate prompts on CuriousCat. The prompts are the poems between the story sections.

To the willow, All the hatred and desire Of your heart

"Men," groused Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan, sweeping into her royal bedroom past her friend and confidante Amilyn Holdo, flinging herself onto her royal bed, and burying her royal face in her royal arms.

Amilyn cared about Leia very much, but at times like these she found the princess nearly insufferable; how could she be so unhappy when she had a perfectly good companion in Amilyn?

"What has he done this time?" Amilyn asked, as gently and patiently as she could.

"He thinks I'm too young; he won't have sex with me," Leia huffed, "and now I'm so—I'm just…" and she squirmed against her blanket and let out a beautifully frustrated sound.

Amilyn's heart skipped a beat; blood pounding in her ears, she moved toward the bed and said, "Maybe there's something I can do."

Wake, butterfly — it’s late, we’ve miles to go together.

Leia groaned and shifted, tugging the blanket tighter over her shoulder as she curled back against Amilyn. Amilyn pressed her lips to the back of Leia's neck. "Are you telling me you don't have the energy to face the day, Your Highness?"

"Tired," Leia mumbled, then added, "and it's your fault."

"Too tired for this, then?" Amilyn teased, sliding her hand over Leia's hip and down between her thighs; Leia didn't say anything, but she shifted again, letting her legs fall apart.

Parting Straw-clutching For support

Leia stood at the end of the platform, beautiful and regal in white, half her hair falling straight down her back and the rest braided up in the traditional style symbolizing parting. Her face was placid, her stance straight but not stiff, as though she were completely unaffected—but she wasn't; Amilyn could feel it, could feel the turmoil in Leia's heart. They were connected now in a way neither of them really understood, and now Amilyn had to go back to Gatalenta and pretend none of it had happened.

Amilyn could sense something else, too, something that came from outside of them, something she could feel was true even though she didn't know how she knew: this was not the first time Leia had said goodbye, and it would not be the last.

She wanted to wail, to scream, to pitch a fit, to demand that she be allowed to stay, but she knew just as Leia did that it was futile, and more than that she knew it would hurt Leia, make the parting that much harder; all she could do, all she should do, was try to be as strong as the incredible princess she was leaving behind.

Star Wars Fan Fiction Prompt

Someone should make a fanfic where Luke and Leia fight for Hans love and then Leia finds Amilyn and Luke and Han become boyfriends and Amilyn and Leia become girlfriends and then they do like a double wedding or something and then Han and Luke meet Din and they bring him into their relationship and then they have to do another wedding with Din so they can all be husbands and Leia and Amilyn go on to lead the resistance and Luke and Han and Din go live on Ach Tu and then we fast forward a few years and we meet Jyn Erso and Leia falls in love with her. Amilyn understands and says she can be with both Amilyn and Jyn, so Leia starts dating Jyn as well as continuing her relationship with Amilyn. Jyn dies in that thing that happens in Rouge One and Leia is devestated. Amilyn feels terrible for her and tries her best to comfort Leia to no avail. Amilyn and Leia still continue their relationship. Luke, Din, and Han are living on Ach Tu, Han says he can't handle it so he goes to continue his life as a smuggler. Din gets killed somehow. Luke is very sad. Leia and Amilyn décide that they want a child, but they need a donor. Leia messages Han, who is happy to donate. Leia is pregnant now. Amilyn is stressing about everything. They have a child and they name him Ben. The timeline of this story is really off. Ima post it on tumblr as a fanfic prompt to see if anyone will write it. Oh no! I don’t…want people to feel guilty for not leaving comments. I know that it's just...not everyone's bag for various reasons and they're absolutely valid. It’s more…I just wish I could have a dialogue with people? I want to talk with others about how much Amilyn and Leia love each other? That you could play their relationship a million different ways and it’s still so fucking satisfying. Like. I guess…my first fandom I had so many people to talk about it with. There’s always been people that’ll scream back at me, mostly on tumblr and I guess? I just never really found that with SW? (For different reasons but I’m not gonna get into fandom drama here). So I just…miss it? I felt really isolated because I couldn’t find other fans interested in the same eras of SW I was. Or rather. The same ships? And it’s just…lonely?
