"Who speaks to the instincts speaks to the deepest in mankind and finds the readiest response." - Amos Bronson Alcott
You hang up on your mom with a smile. Your job is taking you to Las Vegas, where your parents currently live. They just moved there, so you haven't seen their new house. Maybe this time will be different if you decide to bring Spencer along to meet with them. Your dad is having an attitude like he always does, but he's just being protective of you; there's nothing wrong with that.
Your parents are excited to see you, but they aren't excited to see Spencer. You can't force them to like him, but you can definitely try.
You're the last one on the plane, and when you get on, you see Spencer slouched on the couch with his eyes closed. Poor baby, he's been having nightmares for the past few days. You've woken to him screaming in the middle of the night, and you've had to comfort him back to sleep (when you can). He's been dreaming of a little kid who had been abused and murdered, but he can never save him.
You wish you could make it better for him. The team decided to let him sleep a little longer until you are at cruising altitude. The team needs to discuss this case, and Spencer needs to be awake for this.
"I got this." You kneel on the floor so you're at his level, and you run your hand gently down his cheek. "Sweetheart."
He jumps at your soft voice, and he sees everyone is staring at him. You touch his hand in comfort, and he wipes his eyes with his other hand.
"Sorry, I was dreaming. We found a six-year-old boy who had been abused and stabbed. Your baby was at the crime scene," he says to JJ who raises her eyebrows at him. "I was trying to get him out of there. Sorry."
"It's okay," she responds.
"You know, Reid, if there's a baby in your dreams, that baby's actually you. It's a simple dream analysis."
"I don't believe in dream analysis."
"I don't know. It makes sense. The case we're working on and the case in your dream both involve children. Maybe your subconscious is telling you you want to sit this one out," Hotch speaks up.
"I don't."
"Well, maybe you're just stressed out about going home to Las Vegas. Did you tell your mom you're coming?" Emily asks.
Spencer's bottom lip wobbles, and you take matters into your own hand. He doesn't like talking about her, especially with other people. He's more comfortable if it's you.
"Why don't we talk about the case?" you ask, and he thanks you with his eyes.
"Alright, let's start from the beginning one more time," Hotch chuckles.
"The victim's name is Ethan Hayes. He was five when he was abducted out of his own front yard two weeks ago."
"Where were the parents?" Spencer asks.
"His mom just ran inside to grab her purse. When she came back, he was gone. She wasn't away for more than a minute or two. Police found his body exactly one week later in the desert. He was in a new change of clothes with his nails clipped and his hair was combed."
"That's a lot of remorse."
"There's no sign of sexual assault. The medical report suggests he was smothered. The unsub could see this death as merciful."
"Who's the new boy?" Emily asks JJ about the more recent abduction.
"Michael Bridges. Yesterday, he set out to walk by himself to a friend's house a block away. He never showed up."
"Are we sure these cases are even connected?"
"The unsub called each of the families, but no ransom was demanded. It was more like taunts. He's telling them it's their fault that their child was taken."
"So, we have an unsub who shows remorse and then projects his guilt onto the victims' parents. If we're lucky, we have six more days to find this boy before he's killed."
Hotch wants you and JJ with him to talk to Michael's parents at their home. JJ is better with comforting families since that is part of her job, and you're better suited to find traces of Michael--dead or alive. The rest have gone to the police station to get set up.
Detective Ashby is with Michael's parents, Craig and Amy Bridges. He greets you outside to give you some background information before you go inside. Even from where you are, you can feel their sadness.
"Detective Ashby? I'm Jennifer Jareau. This is Aaron Hotchner and Agent Y/N."
"Thanks for getting here so quickly."
"What can you tell us?"
"We've got an amber alert in effect, and the tip line is being run through the precinct. We've also got Michael's photo on the wire."
"Has the phone company been served with a caller subscription subpoena?" Hotch asks.
"Yeah. We'll get a name and location if he's calling from a landline."
"We'll also run the calls through our analyst at Quantico. She can triangulate cell calls. We need to clear the area of official vehicles. If the unsub happens to drive by, I don't want him to panic if he sees a heavy police presence."
"Okay. I'll clear them out after we make introductions."
"How are we handling it?" JJ asks.
"Separate."
You three walk inside the house after the detective, and you have to pause by the door to gather yourself. You're hit with a wave of grief. You want to cry and never stop, but you have to pull yourself together. This isn't how I'm feeling. I'm not grieving. I'm perfectly fine. You take a deep breath and approach the parents.
"Craig and Amy, these are Agents Jareau, Y/N, and Hotchner from the FBI."
"We just want to say how sorry we are for what you're going through," JJ says, "but we're here to do whatever we can to try and get Michael home."
"I'm going to tell you what I told the police. I don't want to know what happened to that other boy. I just want to hear how you're going to find Michael," Amy sighs sadly.
"We understand," you start, but she cuts you off.
"No, you don't."
"Actually, I do. I feel your pain as if it's my own. I know more than anyone here what you're going through, and we're going to do our best to bring your son home. We just need your help. Was it normal for Michael to walk to a friend's house by himself?"
"What are you saying?" Amy narrows her eyes at you.
"It's just a question," JJ defends you.
"No, it's not. Do you think we had something to do with this?"
"No, I don't, but if this was his routine then someone could have been watching him for a while."
"He'd only done it a couple of times. Amy and I had a fight about it. I thought we were babying him. I don't want him crawling into bed with us anymore, and I thought he should be able to walk to a friend's house by himself, alone. He was really proud of himself the first time he did it."
"Excuse me," Amy whispers and leaves to go upstairs.
"I'm sorry. It's like she can't engage in what's going on. I just need to know what happened to that little boy."
When Ethan was found, there was no bruising around his neck or face, which can only mean the unsub used a pillow to suffocate him. There wasn't a sign of struggle, but Ethan was found to be extremely weak because he was noticeably thin, and both his stomach and intestines were completely empty.
It seems like he was being starved, but the medical examiner tested to see if malnutrition was part of his death. Reports state that the doctor looked for evidence of starvation ketosis by analyzing some vitreous humor, which is the squishy part behind the eyeball, and he couldn't find any ketone bodies there.
That means he was getting his nutrients somehow.
There were no marks to indicate Ethan was hooked to an IV, so you're not sure how he was getting nutrients.
Emily and Rossi visited Ethan's crime scene, the place where authorities found his body. It's not a well-preserved crime scene since the crime scene investigators walked all over the scene as if they didn't care.
So, the unsub suffocates Ethan at another location, prepares the body, takes him to the middle of nowhere, and dumps him. Except there were no traces of the unsub's sweat on Ethan's body, which means that if he carried the body, he would have left traces of sweat on Ethan. Even if the weather was cool, the trek the unsub must have taken would have worked up a sweat.
Did the unsub wrap him in something? There were no fibers on the body, so that theory is debunked. That can only mean the unsub took the time to change Ethan's clothes and groom him before he got there. If he took that much time, then he could have done it at night. However, you have to think of the risk of someone seeing the unsub's vehicle once the body is found.
If that's true, then the unsub might not have parked it by the road. He'd want to park it a distance away from the dump site just in case someone saw the car and decided to come over to see what he was doing. If the unsub can drive into the desert to drop a body, why not go in deeper where he won't be seen?
Maybe he wanted to be able to drive by the body and see it. It could be why he groomed him. It's like he was preparing him for a funeral.
Once Craig hears the story about Ethan, he is heartbroken, but he has a better understanding of what to expect if his son is killed.
"Detective, the funeral for the first victim is tomorrow. Do you feel comfortable asking the family if they'd be willing to open the service up to the public?" Hotch asks.
"Why's that?"
"We feel if they do, there's a good chance the unsub will go."
"I'll go speak to them."
"Craig, we'd like you and your wife to consider being there as well."
"Good. Anything you need."
"You should talk to Amy about it," you suggest. "Even if you think it's best, you should still discuss it. I'm going to check up on her." You leave the two men and head upstairs, passing by JJ on the stairs. "Is she okay?"
"She won't talk to me. Maybe you'll have better luck."
You walk towards her son's room where she is sitting on the bed silently. She has a picture of her son in her hands. She must sense you at the door because he wipes away a few stray tears without looking up.
"When the police asked for a picture of Michael, I couldn't decide what to give them. I didn't know if it was right for him to be smiling."
"Any choice you made is valid."
"My husband doesn't know what to do with himself. He thinks we should be out there looking for him."
"Amy, I know it doesn't seem like it, but you're doing everything you can for him. It's why we're here. We can take some of the weight off your shoulders."
"My husband thinks I blame him." You walk to the bed and sit down on it, and she finally looks up at you with unshed tears in her eyes. "He's right. My son's been taken. I'm completely frozen, and now I'm blaming my husband. I feel like a monster."
"Believe it or not, it's completely normal to feel that way. Your husband loves you, and he knows you're doing your best, even if your best is staying in bed the whole day."
"Have you ever lost a child?"
"No, but I am an empathetic psychic. I feel what you're feeling, so I understand you completely. I will find your son, I promise you."
Amy reaches underneath her son's pillow, and you look at the candy bar in her hand.
"After he'd been taken, I found this when I came into his room. We don't let him eat in bed. I haven't moved it because I don't want him to think he's in trouble for breaking the rules," she cries.
The phone rings downstairs, and her head shoots up quickly. You both make your way downstairs in hopes it's news about her son. Hotch is on the phone with Penelope so she can triangulate the call in case it's the unsub calling.
"Mr. Bridges, let's go back over what we discussed. Just stay positive. I've written down some important phrases--"
"We need to answer the phone," he urges.
The phone keeps ringing, and it won't stop until someone answers it.
"I think Amy should answer it," you say.
"She doesn't want to do this," her husband shakes his head.
"He's right, I don't."
"It's our experience that the parent that's least emotional is best. That fear you're feeling will keep you focused."
"Amy, you'll be great," Hotch encourages. "Just try to humanize Michael at every opportunity. He needs to see him as a person. Try to keep him on the line as long as you possibly can. The more he talks, the more he'll reveal about himself."
Amy takes a deep breath and grabs the phone. Once Hotch gives her the okay, she answers it while on speakerphone so you can all hear.
"Hello?"
"Are you alone?"
You frown as soon as you hear the voice.
"Um, my husband is with me."
"Why are you just sitting at home when you should be out looking for your boy?"
"You're right, we need to do that."
"He's better off with me."
"Thank you for calling us to let us know Michael's alright."
"I never said he was alright."
There's something about this voice that doesn't sit right with you.
"I know. I'm just trusting that he's okay. May I speak with Michael?"
"He doesn't want to talk to you. He knows what a bad mother you are. Your three minutes are up."
The person hangs up the phone, and you bite your lower lip in thought.

Why do you think the girls never grew resentment against their father? He always did prioritize his morals over the girls' and his own family? It's not like he changed by the end of the book, but the girls never seem bothered by it, in fact they're supposed to respect him for this. A bunch of bull in my opinion.
When I read the book, I never saw Mr. March prioritize his morals over his family. To me, that almost seems a bit selfish, and I never saw him as such. Does Mr. March have a tendency to be in his own head and not care what people thought? Sure, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he's selfish or uncaring. The problem that I believe is had when interpreting his character is that he isn't in the story as often compared to Marmee, as the first part he is in the war, and when he comes back, he's kind of in the background. I think the best way to properly understand Robert March is to understand the inspiration, or base, of his character. Much like the other members of the March family, Robert is based off of Amos Bronson Alcott, Louisa's father, but there definitely was some tweaking, as Alcott wrote him to be a better man than her father. Much like her writing Jo and Friedrich as her way of being with the man she loved, Mr. March I feel is all the things she wished her father was.
The things that made them similar is that they both were unconventional thinkers and philosophers, but unlike Robert, Amos was overbearing and often told her what he thought was wrong with her, like all the time. Compare that to Robert March, who is more laid back, compassionate, and is seen being a good listener and understanding Jo's, Louisa's avatar, problems. Amos was more selfish than Robert, as he forced the family to go through "tests" to see if they can do as he said, like putting an apple on the table even though they were starving, bought books when he should have instead bought a shawl for his wife who was freezing, and laid down and tried to die when his endeavors didn't work, not caring what would happen to his starving and freezing family. Robert is looking much better now, huh?
Robert might come off as being a bit one sighted is because I think that was all Louisa knew of her father, but managed to twist into something that can be admirable, and I have to say, I did admire him. I liked that he was a man who stuck to his morals, even if public opinion didn't think so, helped his wife go through her tempers, which Marmee admits to Jo that are as violent as hers, and even though was seen as too old to fight, did what he could to help in a war. And it always seemed, even if we didn't see it much, that he and Marmee were a team, always making decisions together, never belittling or demeaning the other, so I doubt very much that any of the big choices he made, like giving his money to help a friend or going off to war, he would have done without consulting his wife.
Robert March maybe isn't one of the most popular or stand out characters, but I think he is good, and I can only imagine that Jo, the most outspoken character, would never have named her either of her sons after a man she didn't like. I had always thought that Jo and Beth are quite similar to Robert, Jo getting his strong moral compass and Beth getting his quiet and thoughtful nature, so it was easy for me to like him when I saw this.
And never forget, the first time we get to hear from him, this is what he writes in his letter:
"Give them all of my dear love and a kiss. Tell them I think of them by day, pray for them by night, and find my best comfort in their affection at all times. A year seems very long to wait before I see them, but remind them that while we wait we may all work, so that these hard days need not be wasted. I know they will remember all I said to them, that they will be loving children to you, will do their duty faithfully, fight their bosom enemies bravely, and conquer themselves so beautifully that when I come back to them I may be fonder and prouder than ever of my little women."
To me, this sounds like a loving father and that "writer's heart over-flow with fatherly love and longing for the little girls at home." This is definitely different from what Louisa had experienced with her own father. The girls never had to wonder if their father loved them, or wanted what was best for them, because he always made sure they knew.

Aphorisms and quotes about the mother
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quotes and aphorisms on mom Quotes and aphorisms about the mother, ideas and thoughts by different and famous authors on the mom and the great importance of her presence in everyone's life. After the end of time, mother, we will find ourselves in the reality that does not exist, in a fictional and mythical world; we will be happy, serene, at peace, and finally we will be able to enjoy what we are not. Carl William Brown Where there is a mother in the home, matters go well. Amos Bronson Alcott What do girls do who haven't any mothers to help them through their troubles? Louisa May Alcott Children and mothers never truly part; bound in the beating of each other’s heart. Charlotte Gray A mother who is really a mother is never free. Honore De Balzac My wife is the kind of girl who will not go anywhere without her mother, and her mother will go anywhere. John Barrymore The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom. Henry Ward Beecher Be kind to your mother-in-law, but pay for her board at some good hotel. Josh Billings From now on I want to imagine death as a tender and affectionate mother who with extreme love, smiling and holding me at her breast for all eternity, instead of giving me life will take it away forever. Carl William Brown The best thing that could happen to motherhood already has. Fewer women are going into it. Victoria Billings The Holy Virgin is the universal essence of woman, she is the divine symbol of the mother par excellence, she is the spirit of life and love who endures and resists pain, suffering and death, to make the memory of her children immortal. Carl William Brown You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother. Albert Einstein There are so many times you will feel you have failed, but in the eyes, heart and mind of your child, you are supermom. Stephanie Precourt A mother is not a person to lean on, but a person to make leaning unnecessary. Dorothy Canfield Fisher When a woman is twenty, a child deforms her; when she is thirty, he preserves her; and when forty, he makes her young again. Leon Blum Let France have good mothers, and she will have good sons. Napoleon Bonaparte

My Mom Innocenza Women know the way to rear up children (to be just). They know a simple, merry, tender knack of tying sashes, fitting baby-shoes, and stringing pretty words that make no sense. And kissing full sense into empty words. Elizabeth Barrett Browning Some are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love just the same - and most mothers kiss and scold together. Pearl S. Buck The kind of power mothers have is enormous. Angela Carter There are lots of things that you can brush under the carpet about yourself until you're faced with somebody whose needs won't be put off. Angela Carter For Eliot, April is the cruelest month, and I agreed, in fact my father died in April, but then my mother passed away in October, so now the cruelest months are certainly two. Carl William Brown The chain of wedlock is so heavy that it takes two to carry it - and sometimes three. Alexandre (the Younger) Dumas For that's what a woman, a mother wants - to teach her children to take an interest in life. She knows it's safer for them to be interested in other people's happiness than to believe in their own. Marguerite Duras As my mom always said, ‘You’d rather have smile lines than frown lines.’ Cindy Crawford Some mothers are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love just the same, and most mothers kiss and scold together. Pearl S. Buck No culture on earth outside of mid-century suburban America has ever deployed one woman per child without simultaneously assigning her such major productive activities as weaving, farming, gathering, temple maintenance, and tent-building. The reason is that full-time, one-on-one child-raising is not good for women or children. Barbara Ehrenreich Take motherhood: nobody ever thought of putting it on a moral pedestal until some brash feminists pointed out, about a century ago, that the pay is lousy and the career ladder nonexistent. Barbara Ehrenreich A mother's yearning feels the presence of the cherished child even in the degraded man. George Eliot But the mother's yearning, that completest type of the life in another life which is the essence of real human love, feels the presence of the cherished child even in the debased, degraded man. George Eliot The lullaby is the spell whereby the mother attempts to transform herself back from an ogre to a saint. James Fenton See also It's not over when you lose, but when you end it. Unknown The mother as a social servant instead of a home servant will not lack in true mother duty. From her work, loved and honored though it is, she will return to her home life, the child life, with an eager, ceaseless pleasure, cleansed of all the fret and fraction and weariness that so mar it now. Charlotte P. Gillman

Quotes on mom Mother is a verb. It’s something you do. Not just who you are. Cheryl Lacey Donovan A mother’s arms are more comforting than anyone else’s. Princess Diana Morality and its victim, the mother - what a terrible picture! Is there indeed anything more terrible, more criminal, than our glorified sacred function of motherhood? Emma Goldman The patience of a mother might be likened to a tube of toothpaste – it’s never quite all gone. Carl William Brown When I was a child, my mother said to me, ‘If you become a soldier, you’ll be a general. If you become a monk you’ll end up as the pope.’ Instead I became a painter and wound up as Picasso. Pablo Picasso Only after losing your mother forever can you understand the essence of true love and the excruciating pain of life passing away. Carl William Brown A mother is the one who is still there when everyone else has deserted you. Author Unknown You realize that you habitually thought of Mom when something in your life was not going well, because when you thought of her it was as though something got back on track, and you felt re-energized. Shin Kyung Sook No influence is so powerful as that of the mother. Sarah Josepha Hale A man’s work is from sun to sun, but a mother’s work is never done. My mom when she was 20 All that remains to the mother in modern consumer society is the role of scapegoat; psychoanalysis uses huge amounts of money and time to persuade analysis and to foist their problems on to the absent mother, who has no opportunity to utter a word in her own defense. Hostility to the mother in our societies is an index of mental health. Germaine Greer The moments of happiness... We have had the experience of them, but the meaning has escaped us, as Eliot said. Or rather, we didn't realize it, so life passed by and in the end all I was left with was the pain of losing my dearest person, my mother. Carl William Brown Woman is the salvation or the destruction of the family. She carries its destiny in the folds of her mantle. Henri Frederic Amiel A mother’s arms are made of tenderness and children sleep soundly in them. Victor Hugo If at first you don’t succeed, do it the way your mother told you to. Author Unknown One good mother is worth a hundred schoolmasters. George Herbert The tie which links mother and child is of such pure and immaculate strength as to be never violated. Quotes and aphorisms on mothers My father and my mother are no longer with us, but their spirit lives in me, and therefore is still alive, except that I am already dead. Carl William Brown It seems to me that the nursing mother of most false opinions - both public and private - is the excessively high opinion one places on oneself. Michel Eyquem De Montaigne Anyone who doesn't miss the past never had a mother. Gregory Nunn Maternity is on the face of it an unsociable experience. The selfishness that a woman has learned to stifle or to dissemble where she alone is concerned, blooms freely and unashamed on behalf of her offspring. Emily James Putnam There is no way to be a perfect mother, and a million ways to be a good one. Aphorisms and quotes on the mother A mother understands what a child does not say. Jewish proverb Mother is a verb. It’s something you do. Not just who you are. Cheryl Lacey Donovan A mother loves her children even when they least deserve to be loved. Kate Samperi As her sons have seen her: the mother in patriarchy: controlling, erotic, castrating, heart-suffering, guilt-ridden, and guilt-provoking; a marble brow, a huge breast, an avid cave; between her legs snakes, swamp-grass, or teeth; on her lap a helpless infant or a martyred son. She exists for one purpose: to bear and nourish the son. Adrienne Rich The worker can unionize, go out on strike; mothers are divided from each other in homes, tied to their children by compassionate bonds; our wildcat strikes have most often taken the form of physical or mental breakdown. Adrienne Rich Mother – that was the bank where we deposited all our hurts and worries. T. DeWitt Talmage A little girl, asked where her home was, replied, “where mother is.” Keith L.
