DC xDP fanfic idea: One hell of a good Bellhop

Danny and Jazz Fenton get a chance of a lifetime after a whirlwind of dimension displacement. It's hard to explain how it happened. One minute, they were visiting Clockwork, having tea with their surrogate grandfather, and the next, they were being attacked by what appeared to be woolly mammoths standing on two legs and carrying weapons.

Clockwork had dispatch to take them head on- timeline pests he called them- but in the confusion Danny and Jazz were taken by suprised, stuffed into sacks and thrown through a whirlpool turned portal that spit them out in a new world.

They tried to call Clockwork for help, but it was as if though the Ghost Zone was blocked by some power. Danny at least still had his ghost powers and Jazz was equipped with the standard Fenton weapons on her person, but that wasn't much help when between the two of them they had sixty dollars and thirty four cents to their names.

Drivers' invalid licenses, phones that weren't connected to any service, and maybe worse of all, no actual identity to speak of.

The Fentons simply didn't exist in this world. Not even their four fathers. The two were at a loss on what to do- for about three months. Then they put their Fenton intelligence to use and hacked into a hotel.

It was a run-down place in the heart of downtown Gotham- the place that the portal shot them to was Metropolis. Still, people paid way too much attention to homeless minors there, so they had to move after dodging a weird underwear guy who kept trying to capture Danny. Apparently, he thought Danny was a "Kryptonian Clone". Fruitloop.

Jazz thought they were the only guests in the Hotel, which is why the owner was so happy to host them for weeks instead of a few days. He was a sweet old man named Charles who was far too old to work but couldn't afford the staff, so he did everything himself.

Jazz felt an awful pity seeing him sit at his counter, staring hopefully at the door for any new guests whenever she returned from her work. It was heartbreaking to see Charles' eyes dim whenever the closing time came, and once again, no one stopped by. At this point, he kept the hotel open in a sad, broken dream.

Where did she work? Danny didn't know, but Jazz made him swear she would handle their expenses. She kept a tight lip on her day, and since Danny had no documentation to go to school with, he found himself helping Charles with maintenance.

He has no license to do anything, but Danny has been installing electricity, water pipes, and anything in between since he was young. FentonWorks always needed something fixed, after all.

He even went out and "borrowed" some paint cans to give the old place a little touch-up. Charles' eyes watered when he saw.

"My wife and I meet at this hotel, you know," Charles tells him one day as Danny patches up some old bricks. He runs to find the old man, gently running his hand along the fireplace. A picture of two young people dancing in the Hotel Lobby—back when it was new and shiny—is hanging right over it. It's easy to see it's Charles and his late wife, Sally.

"Of course, that was back in the forties—a few years after the war and before Gotham was crime-infested. We always wanted to run this place together. We worked two jobs, and when we finally had enough, we bought it from the old owners when they announced they were closing down. We were so happy and ran it together for a year, but then she got sick. Really sick. I was told to give up on the Hotel when I lost her. No one saw a reason when it was obviously failing, but it's the last thing I have of her, you know?"

Danny's lips wobble. He thinks back to hours and hours of tracing the Fenton Works logo on all his new clothes. It looks stupid but, gosh its the last thing he has of his parents since they been sepreated too.

"Yeah" His voice catches "Yeah I know. Did you two ever have children?"

Charles shakes his head. "Salley couldn't have kids, and no matter how many times we applied, we were never approved for adoption. Then we were too old."

"I'm sorry Charles"

"That's alright, my boy." The man's smile is just as heartbreaking and sad as it is soft. "It's something I accepted long ago. "

Danny decided then and there that he would save this hotel if it was the last thing he did. Danny wasn't aware that his Ghost Powers launched onto that oath and sent out a flair, turning Gotham's Fog Lodge into his new haunt.

This meant that overnight, Danny's haunt was carefully bettering itself as a reflection of Danny's happiness. It made it look brand new among all the old and falling apart scenery.

No one knew why or how, but it looked just as Charles remembered it in the glory days.

Danny decided they couldn't compete with large chain hotels, so he made it an experience instead. He did Era events using his experience with the different parts of the Ghost Zone as references.

Soon Gotham was hearing of the Victorian Era Ball—a chance to dress up and dance the old ways with antique clothing of that period.

But Danny didn't stop there.

Disco parties. Nineties garage bands. Murder mysteries nights from the roaring twenties. Even the props were so realistic that people swore they stepped into the time from when arriving for their events.

People started calling, hoping to book in advance, and Charles burst into tears the first night Danny told them they ran out of rooms.

Since it was Danny's haunt, he could complete all the work by himself, having the hotel help him along the way. No one knew why or how, but somehow it was always clean, food was always prepared whenever someone needed it, and bags would be up into their rooms without actually seeing the Bellhop pass getting them at the door.

Not a single staff member in sight, either.

Charles suspected Danny was meta, and he was using his powers to be one hell of a good host. Everyone else thought the place was haunted by staff made entirly of ghosts, and that somehow made it more appealing.

Jazz's new boss thought it a little too good to be accurate, but he was so good at keeping records and organizing that he gave her the benefit of the doubt. After all, she did mention she had a meta brother she was desperately trying to protect.

If there was one thing Red Hood knew, it was that desperate people turned to crime the most. If he could keep someone like Jazz Fenton away from working with the nutjobs of Gotham, he would have been doing one thing better for the city.

As far as Jazz was aware, she was only an assistant/secretary to an obvious front masquerading as an insurance company, and if she pretended not to notice all the crime, she could feed Danny and help Charles.

Charles, for his part, never said it, but he thinks if he and Sally had been able to have grandchildren, they would have been exactly like Jazz and Danny.

He may have let it be implied at one point, and the misunderstanding spreads that he is their grandfather. None of the three make haste to correct it.

Gotham Fog Lodge starts to gain traction around the same time it captures the eye of one very intrigued billionaire. Bruce Wayne keeps an eye on the business but decided to let Jason make the call since the grandduaghter's owner works for him. '

Surely, he would step in if something malicious was going on.

Due to his overwhelming affinity and power, Danny becomes the ancient of space. Ordinarily, this would be a momentous occasion that would call for a lot of fan fair and celebration. After all, a new ancient being born is a really big deal. Doesn't happen too often. And when it does, everyone feels it. From the most powerful of ghosts to even the slightest of liminals. If you're even a smidgen touched by death, you're gonna realize something powerful has just awakened.

But there is no celebration this time. Why? You see, not for the first time, Danny's halfa status throws a little wrench in things. When one becomes an ancient, everything gets reset for them. It's basically like a new birth. You get a new form, new core, new haunt (etc) but you still retain key aspects of your old self. Like the general age appearance and memories. But this doesn't happen with Danny. Whatever power is involved with turning a ghost into an ancient can't really get a feel on Danny considering he's not a full ghost. So when this "new birth" happens for Danny, well he gets new everything. He's basically a new ghost. A new baby ghost. A new baby ghost with dominion over space. Yeah things are about to get fun.

It doesn't take very long for Clockwork to lose sight of his new godling ward. And by lose sight, I mean lose sight. No matter how many timelines he flips through. He. Can't. Find. Him. Why can't he find him? Where did he go?? Why is this happening!? Ahhhhhhh!!

Meanwhile, Danny is vibing as he stares up at the Wayne family. The Wayne family of the DC universe. The universe famous for its convoluted and twisted timeline. The universe that's gonna take CW a while to work through (good luck buddy).

Now remember how I said that all liminals recognize when a new ancient is born? Well that's not the only ghost sense they have. You see there are two reactions to the baby currently sitting on the table depending on when someone died or at least had a brush with death compared to Danny's death. The first is, "Very powerful. Must respect. Must garner favor. Must not show weakness." This sentiment is held by all those who had their tastes of death after Danny. This includes Damian, Cass, and Tim. Then there's the other side. The ones who tasted death prior to Danny. When they look at this baby the reaction is, "Baby? Why baby alone? Must protect baby. Must take baby under my wing and keep it safe until baby can be on its own." This feeling is strong with Jason, Bruce and even Dick. There's only one problem. There is one baby but three dad candidates. Let the adoption wars begin!

Jazz went to Gotham to finish her degree away from her parents, as their obsession with Ghosts started becoming dangerous to everyone. So, of course, she brought Danny with her, so he's also far away from them and the GIW.

Danny held out a whole year without going out on patrol, just establishing his haunt in the new city. Lady Gotham was very happy to be able to show them to their new place, almost giddy that the little King and his Queen Mother have come to live in her beloved city.

Of course, the first time Phantom floats out of his window and into the night, he has a new suit, made of padded black leather, and a fluffy white cape with a hood (imagine the Lightkin Cloak from Destiny2, but snow white, rather than black and grey), along with a facemask engraved with a fanged design. New haunt, new look, and the new look fit right in with the viciousness of Gotham City.

And, as luck would have it, his first Gotham Rogue was Poison Ivy. Thinking back to his fight against Undergrowth, Pantom opened with his ice, forming a double-sided axe to better cleave her vines apart, and locking Ivy herself down with ice.

To further distance himself from his identity as Phantom, in case the GIW somehow became smart at some point, instead of blasting ice like most ghosts fire ectoblasts, Danny asked Pandora for lessons on fighting with weapons, and Frosbite taught his how to channel his element as an aura, or a freezing breath. He even sat down to listen to Nocturne speak as they wove spells and ectoplasm, and the Personification of Dreams softly taught him how to use his powers through objects acting as catalysts, or as manifestations of his will, rather than throwing his affinities around by brute force.

With his new abilities and look, rather than fight like a feral raccoon, Danny took to fighting more like a spellblade, slinging around ice shard and spells to enhance his physical strikes, controlling the pace of a fight to get the upper hand on his enemies.

Suffice to say, Poison Ivy hadn't expected the Avatar of Icy Vengeance to lock her in a pillar of ice up to her neck while her vines withered into frosty sculptures.

Gotham's newest hero got awarded a new name by the news the next day: Ymir, Frozen Progenitor.

Danny thinks it's too pretentious for a random ghost, or random halfa, like him. Joke's on him, the perception of Gotham's people slowly starts empowering him, slowly enough that the only reason he notices his oncoming Ascension to myth as a Protector Spirit is when a terrified kid begs for his help, and he hears them loud and clear out of nowhere.

The Bats are confused by this Entity. Constantine stepped one foot in Gotham, felt it's cleaner air, the sharp bite of ice in his nose and lungs, and the overwhelming pressure of the new Godling training under Gotham herself to control his new powers, and ran out screaming about not getting paid enough to deal with divine beings. Zatanna is trying to contact Ymir to ask them to join the Justice League Dark.

Jason is vibing with the tall redhead Amazon he's met at Babs' library, and her feral little brother who cured his Pit Rage by biting his arm when they first met. One time Jason is in a pinch after a stakeout gone wrong, Bellona (Ancient Roman Goddess of War) takes the fight to his captors to free him, dressed in golden armor and wielding a spear Pandora and Firght Knight made for her. Nocturne and her brother worked together to imbue a spell into her back to give her wings she can use to fly or fight with. The fact it left a badass tattoo on her back, is just another way Jazz rebels against her parents. It also has Jason weak in the knees when he first sees it.

Some silly thoughts that I randomly got while my eyes are growing heavy....

Bruce had not (or probably forgot to) announce that he had a new kid, which is Danny Fenton so now, Danny has three secret identities.

Also, Bruce doesn't know about Fenton being Phantom.

And also, Danny got adopted solely because right after he fought Skulker and Desiree, he ended up being in Gotham. With his powers being short circuited a few times during the fight, he looked like a homeless beggar, beaten up and everything in his human form. Even at the end of the battle, his powers had not let up just yet, fortunately he was able to soup both of the ghosts with his thermos.

So while walking down the streets, it was night time, some thug came and tried to mug the boy only to be rescued by Batman since he was on patrol.

And Danny being Danny, lies elegantly. Now, Batman and his best friend Paranoia, advised and guided Danny to a manor and there, history begins.

All because Danny lied about having no parents when in truth, Maddie and Jack were all waiting for him to come back for dinner. (they knew of his ghostly powers)

Danny doesn't know Bruce being Batman, and Batman doesn't know Danny being Phantom.

Danny kept persuading Bruce to let him go to Amity Park since he always wanted to stay there (also cuz he can't stay out of his Haunt for too long) and Bruce let's him.... Without forgetting to give him allowance.

Sooner or later, Danny gets a call from Bruce, the man usually calls or Danny calling him cuz their family now and all that and they would talk casually and stuff cuz for some reason, Bruce can't get past a firewall that's protecting Amity Park and all of its residents are there getting their online acc being protected as well.

And Danny expected Bruce to ask him how it was going on his side but then was taken aback cuz the man invited him to the manor for a family night.

With much consideration, Danny agreed. Only to be surprised that Danny wasn't the only kid cuz there are other look-alikes sprawling around the manor.

So the guilt he has inside his heart dissipated cuz a part of the reason why he signed the adoption papers was that he thought Bruce was a lonely man and he had a different vibe than Vlad and on the plus side, he could show off the adoption papers at Vlad.

The Batkids stared at the new kid, glaring at Bruce as to who is he while the man himself was confused as well, did he not tell them? He thought. And no, no he did not.

Half A Corpse

Chapter One

The soft hum of the radio filled the silent car ride, the four bodies inside somewhat anticipating what was to come. It had been a couple of days since they had left the ruins of Amity and were making their way to their new home in Gotham.

If any of them had their own way they would have stayed in Amity and mourned what they had lost. Every Amity Parker would have, even Dan. But with some prompting from none other than Clockwork, they all made their way to their new homes. Where was that? Wherever their hearts took them.

Most, like the Nightingale's, left for Gotham. Others, Metropolis. Some strayed from the trend and moved to places like Central City or even far into the countryside. But it was as Clockwork said, and they went where their hearts took them.

“This place smells of death.”

Jazz couldn't tell if her sister was complaining or not but she wouldn't blame her if she were.

“Haven't you been to Gotham before?” She asked, her eyes drifting upwards to the rear view mirror to look at Dani, only to see her sitting upside down. “Also if you keep that up I'll be the one going to jail not you.”

“It was actually the first place I went because I thought it was interesting,” She said while shifting herself into an upright position “but I could sense that it was someone's haunt so I didn't intrude.”

“Good thing you didn't. She doesn't have the ability to deal with many of the issues within her city but Lady Gotham is a powerful spirit nonetheless, and doesn't do well with outside ghosts.” Dan stated, putting down his book to give his full attention to his little sister.

“Well if that's the case why did she let us in?”

“Because Clockwork and I asked very nicely.” Danny yawned at her. He was still waking up from his nap. He was very, very tired.

Dani didn't ask any more questions. She was already off of that topic and was now observing the city around her. She was completely enamored. Fascinated by how well both the modern and gothic architecture complemented each other. To her (and probably everyone else in the car);

“It gives dark academia vibes, ya know! Just modern. And with lots of crime.” Her voice filled with awe and wonder.

“Excusing the fact that you've been on the internet too much as of late, it would have been better if there was a little more sunlight.”

They all couldn't have agreed more. True to every Gothamite's words, the sun did not shine in Gotham. And with all the smog, probably never will.

From there on the car ride was filled with convocation. Everyone had something to say about their new city. Their new home.

Danny never thought that he would be having a conversation with Sam about what it meant to be low-key but here he was.

“Yeah, I know you said that you wanted something low-key but there was no way I was going to let you guys live in some shabby apartment. So I bought a place and renovated it for you guys.”

Danny rubbed his temples feeling a headache coming on. “Yeah okay I thank you for that. But what's the cafe, book shoppy thing down bottom huh?”

“Well you guys said that you wanted to be self-sufficient.” Sam stated as if that would answer his question. Based on pure context alone it did.

"Sam, you know we literally live in a place called Crime. Alley. Right? I know we border the Narrows but that's not the point.”

She sighed. “You guys refused my help because you said it would ‘feel like using me’, “ Danny could just hear the air quotes from over the line, “but let's face it! Jazz is doing college full time and you and Dani will be going to school. The only person left to work in Dan. And no offense to him but he looks shady AF.”

A shout came from the other side of the house informing them that no offense was taken.

“Anyways,” she continued “Dan looks hella shady. And from what I can tell, no one's gonna hire a shady person. Especially if they come from Crime Alley or the Narrows. The only work he would probably get is from a shady garage or joining a gang and doing straight up crime.”

Danny sighed and shook his head, plopping himself into one of the beanbag chairs Sam furnished the house with. She had a point and she was also painting a clear image in his head about how that would work out.

“Besides, I set up a protection circle after renovations were finished and I've gotta say it's the best work I've done yet.”

He could feel Sam's pride through the phone. She was probably puffing up her chest like a peacock.

“Yeah I felt it coming in. I don't know shit about magic but I could tell that it was pretty good. What does it do again?”

The next hour was filled with endless chatter between the two. It became even longer once Tucker joined the conversation.

Jazz couldn't help but watch her little brother talk so animatedly with his friends. He just looked so happy. Like everything that had happened to them didn't even happen. It was kinda unnerving. What she was seeing here, the happy go lucky boy she saw in the orphanage all those years ago, and what she saw a couple back just wasn't adding up. That couldn't have been her brother. It couldn't. But it was.

Her breathing was becoming ragged as she started to shake. She sighed in relief feeling the presence of Dan beside her.

“He's going to remember, you know.” He said, handing her a cup of jasmine tea. She took it gratefully and Dan continued. “Clockwork said that the seals would break eventually-”

“He also said that he needed a trigger.” She snapped at him. After a moment of realization she apologized. He continued.

“CW doesn't do anything uncalculated Jazz I just want you to know that.”

“What do you mean by that?” She asked, her voice quivering a bit.

“He had a whole life before he met you, Jazz. One he doesn't remember. That should say something sis.”

He walked away before she could say anything else.

Danny Phantom headcanon / AU :

Danny kind of has a "spooky" aura. He gives bad vibes to people around him, the same way a haunted place would give bad vibes. When they meet him for the first time, people tend to be scared of him and they don't know why since he's literally just a teenager. He also has a "weak presence" ; people easily forget he's here, they don't notice him unless he's right in front of them, then are frightened when he starts to talk and they finally notice him – a bit like Nico di Angelo on the Argo II if you know the reference.

It's kinda annoying for Danny, because people don't want to trust him easily, and he always has to talk pretty loud for people to notice him. He's almost always left on the side on group conversations. Once, the teacher noted he was absent despite him answering "present" multiple times. People turn the lights off leaving a room if he's the only one still in it.

But there is some good sides, too ; he can sleep in class without anyone noticing. One day, he didn't do his homework, and the teacher verified everyone's except his. Bullies are kinda scared of him, like anyone else, so there isn't any new one except people who already knew him before he became Phantom or who have to see him for a long period of time and aren't really scared anymore. It also helps a little keeping his secret identity.

Danny meets Joker Jr (Tim)

So, was bored and brain thought "Hm... Danny knows what it's like to under the control of clown." Then, it remembered "Who else knew what it's like to be under the control of a Clown? Oh, right, T I M"

Sure, by all mean technically, both were 2 different circumstances, Tim having been tortured and brainwashed while Danny was put under mind control via a supernatural item. But still, nevertheless, this was enough to get the ball rolling.

Like, Imagine Danny, having just escaped from the GIW's torture and experiments, ending up fleeing to Gotham (Cause no body at the GIW wants to deal with the Bat or his rogues or just the general population there- even if they were (unfortunately) a government branch- which, if anything, would likely anger the rogues and thugs more and even half the civilian Gothamites-)

He wanders around Gotham, mainly vibing and chilling as he recovers, trying to find a place he calls his new haunt/home when he entered a seemingly abandoned warehouse.

Danny didn't know what to expect entering the abandoned warehouse, but it certainly wasn't a guy his age, bound to a metal table, trembling. Upon a closer look, the guy was wearing a black, red, and yellow armored costume of some sort, and on his face was a prominent Glasgow grin.

Seeing the electrical cords hooked up to the table the guy was trapped in, Danny flew closer, wanting to help him immediately.

The guy flinched harshly in his restraints upon noticing him. Danny stopped midair, as he raised one hand slowly.

It would take a bit for the guy to calm down, but even then, he'd be wary of Danny up until he freed him from the restraints.

"Hey- I'm not here to hurt you," Danny said gently, feeling the pain the guy held through his core.

At this point, Tim hasn't completely broken under Joker's torture but already, but he's already semi-brainwashed to be Joker Jr, er- well, to think of himself as Joker Jr instead of Tim Drake or Red Robin. Joker and Harley haven't programmed his personality into him yet. They mainly tortured Tim to be obedient, submissive, and susceptible to their manipulations and torture so it is easier to mold him into their perfect son.

JJ, as he twitchingly introduces himself to Danny, is gonna also have amnesia. He doesn't remember fully of his life as Tim or Red Robin, at least for the time bein. It was supposed to be his brain's way as a coping mechanism to forget the torture, but nope, Joker made sure he'd never forget it. Plus, being electrocuted can cause amnesia so... Yeah.

Danny's gonna make sure JJ's away from the warehouse and is gonna protect him. He may not know the full extent of the circumstances as to why JJ was there but he can guess, and it ain't good. Once he learns of the whole situation, though? Yeah, Joker's gonna be dragged to the Infinity Realms by him along with Harley, though, Harley may be released due to her own circumstances as well... She just needs to serve her time since she still did a lot of crimes anyways...

While Danny's taking care of JJ (even if it also meant stealing amongst a few other crimes-), Batfam is still trying to find their missing member.

Idk if this makes sense anymore. I just thought it be neat of Danny meets Joker Jr Tim, save him, and help him recover while Batfam are out, running around, like headless chickens. Would this lead to shipping? Maybe, who knows? I think JJ Tim and Danny would prove to be better as brothers here.

Everyone knows that just this phenomenal is too be deem something was about to happen, and they couldn't be much more worried about it for the past year,

Danny couldn't believe it, the new justice league movie was here!

Don't get me wrong, being a ghost hero and seemingly protecting the town from his own fellow ghost that were taking his whole schedule would not border his excitement for this movie

Mainly Sam had him hook-up to that comic collection she got in one of her dusty closets at her house that she already finished,

And to be exact he was too into the DC comics (sorry Marvel comics but your comics are great too👍)

And it was just in time for his birthday, his parents were out who knows where two days ago (must be one of there expeditions again)

And Jazz couldn't come (which was kinda Abit upsetting) since she had a college project in her major with her other group friends,

So tucker,him and Sam were the only ones,

Danny couldn't be Abit annoyed that they've been searching for a theater that the movie will be screening in,

The ones with better screens(modern theaters) the movie wasn't released in there end.

“tuck can't you just hack whatever studios made that movie so we could just watch it in your PC? This is taking forever! Sam replied to tucker as she was Abit drip wet from the rain right now as they stay at an empty bus stop

Tucker:“well I wanted to suggest that idea, but I can't stop my parents request when they heard that we were watching a movie, they said it's much better in a cinema or theaters and you know me?”

Tucker answered back

Abit unsure which was abnormal for him but they couldn't point it out he's been a lot nervous for that hacking competition from the community for hackers and would won a very mystery surprised and been practicing lately even though he's already awesome at it.

It was only one movie how bad could it be to find it? Well pretty annoying actually.

Danny: “Hey guys remember that theater in the other side of the town?

Sam: “you mean that haunted theater? That is actually not inhabit by a ghost from the realms? Yeah I do”

Danny: “you do know that it's just called haunted is because there less people visiting and watching from there but look if it's the last place we need to check out for the movie!"- and my legs are hurting me rn just for walking)

They did find the theater had the movie available, they had to wear this old 80s or 90s outfits to fit the theme, and they were alot of people looking like they came from the past, just don't bother to look at the phones there holding and very recognizable faces,

Sam had this very nice head piece her hair was Abit curly for her liking but they kept the dark shadow and gave her a red lipstick not her fav of a color but it's shade was nice, a very classic dress, with a pearl necklace that seems to glow

Tucker had that suit with a very nice tie and gloves, Danny felt Abit familia with it Abit.

And him, he was dress with that classic good boy suit- both tucker and Sam couldn't stop laughing,

But not atleast to stop to get pictures at the photo booth

One particular couple had commented that Sam and tucker look like an marriage couple and Danny look like there son in the picture

That made Danny well redden while Sam and tucker couldn't stop teasing him saying, parents jokes the way just for fun

But the movie was good they can't rub it in,

And can't forget when Batman backstory came out, Sam couldn't stop to comment that the suit he was wearing look exactly like young Bruce suit,the one his wearing now for theater vibes shit customs

Ok so I've seen a lot of dcxdp crossovers where Danny goes feral on someone (mostly superman) who mistreated a clone. But you know another media that has clones who could use a feral Danny fighting for their rights? Star wars that's who.

Ok so the idea I had is that Danny ends up going into a portal in the ghost zone. Maybe after a reveal gone bad or even just cause clockwork said so. But he comes out in the star wars universe sometime during the clone wars near some random jedi. I personally like the idea of it being the arc where they are trying to get supplies through a separatist blockade over ryloth.

So Danny is on this weird new planet when he sees some aliens and decides to follow them while invisible. He sees how they are hungry hurt and tired and sees this different alien and these dudes in white armor protecting these people including what's obviously kids. Now while I think the obsession thing can be interesting if done well.... I don't think it fits this au at least not a protection obsession (plus I love the idea that Danny chose to sacrifice everything he did as a conscious decision and I feel like a protective obsession takes some of the gravity out of that choice.)

So Danny is following them maybe Master Ima-Gun-Di senses him but can't tell where he is and assumes he is a force sensitive twilek. So the time comes where he and his men make their last stand and Danny sees them in real danger and steps in because these alien dudes were clearly protecting people from these creepy droids. Master Gun-Di is clearly surprised by this teen with weird non force based powers (maybe since the force is basically life itself ecto energy is the flip side of the force not dark but part of the universes balance.) Anyway Danny saves these dudes only for them to realize he doesn't speak the language and sends him to the jedi temple.

I like the idea of him spending time with obi-wan (he does not join the Jedi because he doesn't have the force.) I just think they would like snarking at people together. Anyway time passes he gets close to Obi-Wan Anakin and Ahsoka as well as all of the clones. Now this is important Danny did not know they were clones he assumed they were volunteers from a humanoid race that did not have much in the way of physical diversity and hey how's he to know how alien biology works.

So he's with the group and one of the clones mentions that they are disposable or something. Danny give a pep talk about how all the people they have saved are alive and safe because of him and the others volunteering thinking that he just was having a moment from trauma. No the clone meant it literally and explains that they were a clone army bred solely for war. Danny is livid that this is basically an army of slave and demands to know who signed of on this. He gets told it's Palpatine who Danny already does not like (he gets serious fruit loop vibes) so Danny decides he's gonna get these babies rights. (He learned they were aged at an accelerated pace)

Que Danny haunting the senate he harassed everyone who mistreated the clones. Fox and Padmé love this feral bastard. Eventually when it was just the two of them Palpatine who had not realized that Danny was live streaming his latest prank goes full sith lord trying to kill or control Danny who just bodies this wrinkly old man the moment he starts trying to shoot lightning.

Danny saves the Galaxy by being a feral rat boy who exposes the secret shadow ruler who leads both sides of the war. Danny traps Palpatine who gets a official trial. The clones get rights and maybe they wear Dannys logo somewhere on their armor as thanks. And Danny gets to explore the Galaxy and learn about all these wonderful new cultures. (Until he learns that there are slaves in the galaxy which causes the return of the feral boy)

Just for the record, guys? I've seen the new Haunted Mansion movie multiple times now, and it's really good. Like -- really good. It's like the filmmakers took into account all of the problems I had with the Eddie Murphy film after my mum and I first saw it in theaters back in 2003 while working on their project.

In the Eddie Murphy film, I felt like just about everyone -- excluding the actors playing Edward Gracey and the butler -- were miscast. The child actors weren't that great, the two servant ghosts weren't that memorable (aside from Wallace Shawn reminding me of Vizzini the entire time), Jennifer Tilly as Madame Leota was as terrible of a casting choice as Kristen Chenowith playing Maleficent (sorry, Descendants fans, but -- what??), and Eddie Murphy himself...yeesh. Worst of all though, the woman playing Eddie Murphy's wife was a wooden plank of an actor, which made it so hard to engage with her when she's arguably one of the most important characters in the narrative.

In this film, just about every single person is perfectly cast. Every last one. Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson...even Owen Wilson surprised me! Chase Dillon as Travis...that kid is going places, I'm saying it now! LaKeith Stanfield in particular was absolutely stellar: I even cried at one point, watching his performance, when I almost never cry at movies. Even Jared Leto -- who I admittedly don't know if I would've hired, given his history -- wasn't a bad choice, just as an actor. He certainly gave off "unlikable creep" vibes as the Hatbox Ghost -- so hey, I guess we have type casting, at least! I admittedly wouldn't have picked Jamie Lee Curtis to play Madame Leota, but she was still an infinitely better choice than Jennifer Tilly.

In the Eddie Murphy film, it leaned a lot on slapstick and pop culture humor, as opposed to any of the macabre dark comedy that the Haunted Mansion ride is known for. Eddie Murphy's style of humor really just didn't fit in with the tone of the original ride and the objectively beautiful Gothic sets the filmmakers had designed.

Yes, admittedly, the new Haunted Mansion movie uses pop culture references too (often in the form of rather forced product placements), but I won't lie, they still got a chuckle out of me, particularly since they weren't the only source of humor in the film. There were snappy retorts, cynical asides, subverted expectations, and -- of course -- dark humor, on tone with the ride. One rather funny bit ends up involving Ben and Father Kent trying and failing to convince elderly Bruce not to come to the Mansion after the old man says he's having heart surgery the following week, and later on, Bruce gets the particularly macabre one-liner "I'm too old to die!" right as he's being thrown in front of a speeding truck. We have Bruce cracking a joke to offer comfort during a really heartbreaking scene, rather than just to divert attention away from Ben's grief. We even have the rhyming headstones at one point!

The Eddie Murphy film focused way too much on Eddie Murphy's character being a "bad" father for working so much, rather than the way more interesting ghost story about Master Gracey and Elizabeth. We also get almost no references to the Haunted Mansion-canon characters aside from "Master Gracey" and Madame Leota.

In this new film, the backstories and personalities of the human characters tie INTO the story line with the ghosts, rather than distracting from it. Ben's dealing (very badly) with the grief of losing his wife Alyssa, which makes him particularly vulnerable to the Hatbox Ghost's machinations. Gabbie and Travis are similarly coming to grips with the loss of their husband/father. Travis is also having to contend with being the new kid in town and not having any friends while living in this haunted house that makes both things even harder. "Father Kent" gets hired to do an exorcism for Gabbie and Travis, only to get trapped by the ghosts himself, when he's not even a real priest, but he ends up using his own skill for persuasion and his strong emotional intelligence to bring in the other people they need to stop the Hatbox Ghost. Bruce has been obsessed with the lore surrounding the Mansion and similarly haunted houses for years, which makes him a valuable resource for exposition about the Mansion and later about the Hatbox Ghost's backstory. Harriet, as the resident medium, not only serves as the main combatant force against the Hatbox Ghost at the end since she has the power to banish him, but she gives great exposition about how our world fits in with the spirit world and this universe's "rules" about how they relate to each other. I kind of miss any real use of the Ghost Host, and I admittedly don't love this film's interpretation of Constance Hatchaway, since in the ride she's much more greedy and conniving, rather than just a flat-out maniac (plus, I'm sorry, but the story has both a ghost who chops people's heads off and another ghost who lost their head via decapitation and didn't connect their backstories together??) -- but we still have WAY more love for both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World's incarnations of the ride in this film than in its predecessor. There are even references to the creepy wallpaper and the bat-gargoyle stanchions in the queues!

And then there was my biggest gripe with the Eddie Murphy film -- that at the end, the curse is broken and all the little ghosts are "set free," leaving the "Haunted Mansion" largely abandoned. You know -- when the whole POINT of the Haunted Mansion is that it's filled with 999 happy haunts who want to be there? It'd be like ending a Pirates of the Caribbean film with Captain Jack Sparrow joining the Navy! Yeah, screw that -- this new film has their ghosts stay and make themselves comfy alongside their new living residents. Talk about an awesome fantasy for kids -- I would've loved living in a house like this Mansion, full of fun happy haunts who host rocking parties every Halloween!

But yeah -- I wouldn't say this film is perfect, of course...but if you're a fan of the Haunted Mansion ride, and want a film that captures its sense of creepy, Gothic beauty and dark humor without being needlessly gory or graphic, there's a damn good chance you'll love this. I know this movie should've been released in October and it's not really the "spooky time of year" right now, but please consider giving it some support in theaters, where the actors and writers who deserve your love will get a larger piece of the profit pie for their hard work than when films go to streaming.

Danny Phantom Headcanons

Technically he's 114 because at some point he got blasted 100 years into the past and decided after a day of having no idea what's going on (and figuring out the date) he found a cave and fell asleep and his ghost half was like, I got this and then he woke up at at dark the night before the fight. He incorporeal-ed out of the (now buried) cave and spent the day fully waking himself up (y'know how ghosts are usually at least a hundred years old, well that's because they need sleep and time to adjust to the whole ghost aspect and fully change, the hundred years of sleep made him feel better than he had since about a week after getting his powers, they also gave him a few new powers)

He is paler than he is in human form because death and all

Also he is slightly eldritch and because he is so powerful sometimes he forgets what humans look like and accidentally changes how he looks, he keeps having to ask how many teeth people usually have, or where joints are supposed to be, most of the time he can remember where and how many eyes he's supposed to have.

Also a personal head cannon of mine is that he is truely really eldritch looking in ghost form and uses his powers to make it look more human. (Seperate post: So Tim just stares for a moment and Danny goes visible and reveals a really powerful and definitively not human creatures wrapped up in a blanket and NASA pyjamas. He looks really cute with his hair all messed up and only two out of his fours eyes are open because he's tired.)

His true ghost form is bigger than both his human and ghost forms. In his true ghost form: all of his teeth are sharp and sometimes they stick out form his mouth (his mouth is bigger than it should be on a human), he's limbs are longer, his hands and feet are closer to claws, he has four eyes with no irises and (sometimes) slit pupils, his hair is the same just floaty, he barely ever walks and chooses to float (although he has legs; when he goes into the more ghost like floating one it looks more like a tail of a snake but no scales, it is much longer than in his ghost form and he often finds himself invisible wrapping himself around things he likes.) Probably more I haven't mentioned, creepy and other vibes.

He is much more protective of pretty much everything once he became a half ghost. He has to fight the urge to investigate new arrivals into amity park (HIS town, HIS haunt) and if his family gets hurt it's game over for the villain and he is far less forgiving than if they had simply hurt himself.

The other ghosts and non-humans seemt to realise that amity park is his haunt (esspecially once he becomes the ghost king) so yeah. Once a small fraid needed refugee and they brought him gifts and pormised not to cause trouble, he agreed because he knows it's the right thing to do and also he really loved the gifts.

He has a small haunt in the ghost zone, it is pretty much a small decaying room but he fixed most of it up and added beanbags. He has newspaper pages about himself and/or the fentons and powerful ghost items hes had to fight.

He also has a lot of space stuff because he does't get much time to fulfil that obsession, always busy with his human life or protecting someone

He likes it there and often goes there to deal with more ghostlike urges or to heal if he doesn't want to worry Sam and tucker and others.

^^this is a lair not a haunt, you only have one haunt

Ghosts purr like cats? Hell yeah they do. Danny did it without realising for almost a year before Sam and Tucker pointed it out. They have tid-bits from other animals too, Danny has to fight the urge to steal or buy any shiny and brightly coloured objects, he really loves jewls. He hisses sometimes. This shows especially with ghost speak, it can sound so many different ways, like the whispering around a cursed object in a horror game, or like birds chirping and clicking to one another, it changes.

To him violence is more of fun and game thing, he understands it isn't to regular humans so he avoids it but he find he doesn't harbour grudes where he perhaps should because the violence doesn't seem all that big to him (for example doesn't care too much about Dash, but he HATES Vlad because he is protective and Vlad messed with his family)

He has four ages. For example when he was 15:

As far as the humans around him know, he's 15

Biologically he's 115 because of the long nap

Because of time travel shenanigans with clockwork he has appeared all throughout time so history wise he is as old as time

He's only been a ghost for 1 year so you could say he's one year old

He died when he was 14 so he could be fourteen

The urge to bite to show affection, not like sexually or anything. But bite ankles, legs, arms, and sometimes neck or hands.

Very clingy when tired. (Totally not projecting)

Blushes green with star and planet and comet and ect freckles.

The way into his heart is gifts. He cannot handle grand gestures so this is mainly food and shiny things you'd find on the side of the road then clean. (Paulina and some other girls once found this out. It was shared lunch in school and they got thrown into the ghost zone, Danny found them but was hesitant on inviting them to his haunt because it's his, and so they offer him some of the food because not offering would be rude. Then one of the girls mentions she had some old jewellery where the jewels fell out and was she holds up this bag the sparkles and he says he'll take them and then decides that they can come to his haunt.)

Also psychical touch, head pats, arm holding. He is akin to a cat and cannot fight the instincts to curl up around you and purr.

Autistic. (Also trans)

You know how ghosts and ectoplasm are kinda non-solid and in some cases can be moulded? Well Danny is too. He finds this out because he was in the forests looking at this really pretty butterfly and suddenly the rings come, he freaks out because he wasn't trying to go back to human but then he sees his hand and realises he's still ghost? So he finds a pond and he has beautiful butterfly wings that are black and white and green (the green parts glow!) and antennae! And so he focuses and transforms back to ghost and so he does this a lot now (Danis favourite is this one spiky lizard she found, she had spikes that looked up through her hair, claws and a tail and thought it looked awesome! Dan however only did it once and secretly really like it, he saw a cool glowing mushroom and without realising parts of his human skin disappeared to reveal a soft green glow beneath them)

He loves scaring people but can only do it to assholes because moral compass (so asshole politicians coming home after partially cruel cases, people who are rude to staff at places Danny likes, ect.)

Dan doesn't have a new body. He worked on morals and slowly changed from evil ghost looking to just having really pale skin, white hair, fangs, and red eyes. He loves grey hoodies.

^^^Okay this has changed now that I've read AGIT so I'll update it soon. Pretty much his ghost forms and human forms mix quickly and he only has one form, but when he gets mad he looks like evil dan and if necessary he can manage to look human for a while.

Okay so he does have a human body, he has Dannys clone. But it feels wrong to him, eventually he mixes his two forms, he was white hair that doesn't fire which he keeps tied back in a pony tail but still has a puffy-over-his-face part like Dannys, you know what I mean. He was the build and body of a 30ish year old man who isn't strong, but still works out enough he's not weak. His skin is pale and slightly discoloured but enough to pass as human, this human illusion is absolutely destroyed when you look closer and realise his teeth are sharp (usually just fangs but sometimes all the teeth) and his eyes are red and glow slightly, not to mention the sense of other he radiates. If he gets mad or uses a lot of power he looks like how Dan did originally, buff, fire hair, red eyes, ect. If he absolutely has to look human he can, but it gives him headaches and it feels wrong.

VLAD. HAS. PINK. EYES. LIKE. HIS. POWERS.

Therefore Dans powers are red, not like Vlads pink ones or Dannys green ones, oh yeah and Danis powers are more of a nature green than a toxic green, this changes slowly over time as she begins to become her own person rather than just a clone.

Sams purple eyes (which GLOW sometimes) are the first sign of being ecto-contaminated she gets

Ghosts fight to show affection, Danny and Dani have scared so many people when they straight up stab eachother and arefighting like cats than laugh and hug and complement each other on their skills.

Danny Phantom is the Ancient of Space, Heros, and Protection (with protection and space also being his obsessions). He smells of Ozone and other space-like smells and no one quite understands how, he hums tunes that replicate stars exploding and/or dying, he is truely the embodiment of 'the longer you stare into the void the void stares back' because sometimes people see galaxies in his freckles, nebulas in his eyes, his body disintegrating and reforming in tiny portions, his skin shimmering like star dust, and the longer you stare the more you notice (his crown and regalia, more space stuff, ect).

Jazz is liminal and stronger than most of Amity Park (who are only Ecto-Contaminated in most cases), she can communicate feelings and things that words can't describe with Danny and other dead stronger than most of the other people in Amity as they are weak (compared to her at least) and she also figures out Ghost Speak. She also has constantly barely glowing eyes that go bright when she's really feeling strongly and she hovers a few inches above the ground sometimes on instinct but can't properly fly and while she can't go intangible she can do if it serious danger/full flight or flight response and adrenaline. Her life span will be about 50 years longer than normal and she will become a sentient ghost when she dies although only slightly above average on the power scale, her status as princess and under royal protection of the king himself (Danny) makes up for that.

Danny makes his own grave out of (I chnaged it from a star) ectoplasm which is near impossible to destory, also his rouges and many other ghosts defend it. It doesn't get broken ever because Clockwork also looks over it.

Danny can tell when people write about him and he can change it, nothing ghost writer level, but simple things like:

It's always white hair not grey

Sam and Tucker are always friends not minions or servents

No sacrifices

He doesn't even realise he's doing it, the cultists do though.

Danny just starts speaking in ghost speak. He's tired, it's exam season, there's a new ghost who's a real fruitloop, and it's getting harder to be human as he gets more tired.

He gives an entire speech in ghost speak, but it was on ghosts anyways so Mr Lancer was just impressed

On one of the nights he actually managed to get to sleep he got chased out of the house because he made a noise that no human should truely be able to when his parents tried to wake him up.

Being a ghost is in his nature now and it's getting harder to act normal, especially because he keeps forgetting about ghost empathy and that he really shouldn't know someone's feeling that way.

You know how todlers get teeth when they're two? Halfas do that with fangs (they can kinda of change what their fangs look like, mouth full of sharp teeth, vampire, normal human teeth, ect) but first they need to deal with all their teeth falling out and being replaced with sharp teeth and a jaw strong enough to cut almost every metal, it aches and aches and Danny is so sore.

Finds writing hard because those are solid words, ghost speak (which comes naturally and intuitively to him) is much closer to speaking with your emotions, if it could be called speaking. He had learnt engough english to be able to keep using it (even if he did start using older versions of english sometimes due to them being dead languages) but he had barely learnt to write before becoming a ghost, he can write he just can't really put what he's meaning to say in words.

Low spectrum autism

Has more than two forms but also can change in his seperate forms, for example he can function and look exactly like a normal human in a human form or he can also have fangs, or just a mouth of sharp teeth, and pointy ears.

Dan redemption arc becomes pyscopomp, souls meant to have died and in pain instead of dead he kills, takes a weeks break then uses clockwork to go to the start of the week and work for two weeks, then he has another break week and repeat.

When Danny gets strong emotions the floor freezes below his feet and he glows brighter (and some more stuff)

Green blush

Danny prefers the form of what you see in the cartoons because it's children friendly, and is basically his default form, but when exhausted he reverts to not his true form. The suit is a bit more chunky as there are layers made for radiation protection, it has a radioactive logo instead of his Danny Phantom logo (he chooses to change that normally) and one of the arms suit is blown off, his arm itself has lightning scars up it which to to his neck but thankfully not his face (they carry over to his human form sometimes, depends on his mood and a few other things) and the hand is blackened and charred with the bone showing around the wrist and on some of the fingers, he still feels pain in it and has to wear a compression glove sometimes, mostly in human form.

Danny, ice core, protectors core, space core, this mostly depends on your headcanons and/or the story you place him in.

Dani, water core (prefers fresh water and the life within it but can make and/or control water as saltly as her soul) she also has control of weather like Danny did for that one episode (loves making tropical rainstorms in the middle of the ocean). Dani gets droplets of water on her skin like condensation like how sometimes Dannys skin freezes over.

Dan, fire core, but cold fire, the type that burns because it's too cold, the type that makes you think your safe but is burning you, he also has a little control over lightning and storms, if he tries really hard he can make them go away but they also come naturally when he's mad or angry

Jazz not liminal enough to have a full core but her liminal-ness allows her to be able to understand ghost speak, hear and feel other people cores, ghost empathy (not to mention floating an inch of the ground sometimes, eyes flashing or glowing and reflecting light in ways humans shouldn't, too many teeth sometimes, just a little wrong)

Most strong emotions result in Dannys: eyes glowing brighter, body glowing brighter, starts speaking in ghost speak (either from emotions getting hold of him and him wanting to rant or English not being able to capture what he's saying right or being beside himself with rage or ect), floats off the ground a little, ground freezing around him and everything he touches,

Strong emotions like hopelessness and giving up result in: eyes going dim and being almost blue, the light he glows with flickering like a drowning torch, speaking in a mix of ghost speak and English but keeps tripping over his words (if he can talk at all, screaming, sobbing, speechless, ect), probably can't fly, frost and cold leaks out of him he can't control it his environment goes subzero and gives anyone who touches his ice gets echos of what he's feeling also the ice is dangerous instead of just cold dangerous

Ghost instincts

By the time Danny gets his apartment, he has labels all his foods, there are two major labels. If you look in his cupboards you will find half of his stuff is labeled norm which is written on white tape, and the other half have the word ecto on green tape, these are what 'species' the food is safe to eat for, norm meaning humans and ecto meaning ghosts (even though ghost can eat human food there's no need for the confusion of having ecto on all the human stuff, if ecto was a spice imagine this as levels of spice safe for different species, anyone can eat the bottom). There are a few smaller groups like Liminals need some ecto but can't have just straight ecto, so some containers have Liminal labels next to the ecto labels; there are also Contaminated labels people for ecto contaminated who can eat things a decently more contaminated than liminals can; those are all that really matter because halfas can eat just as much ecto as ghosts. There's also a white board in his room which he writes reminders on, there is a big sentence in the middle reminding everyone to eat both their daily needs of ecto and human food.

Ecto contaminated

People who've been around ecto, whether in a lab like Maddie and Jack or simply been around a lot of ghiost attacks like the entirety of Amity Park. There aren't really any side effects (none obvious ones anyways) apart from the fact that your used to ecto; eating some won't kill you even if it's not good, you don't get weirded out by ghosts, liminals, or death touched that aren't quite human anymore, and ghosts in general seem just a little more intuitive.

Liminal

Liminals are a step up from ecto contaminated, people who have contact with ecto often like Jazz, Maddie and Jack were wearing hazmat suits which were just enough to keep them from becoming liminal. Side effects of liminals are: eyes that relfect light like cats and sometimes glow, unconsciously floating a few inches above the ground, needing to have just a little ecto (one meal of ecto contaminated food every week works if they can't be in a place with enough ambient ecto), live longer and age slower, they have weak cores that can have their colours (Jazz is orange) but they can't have core types, pointy ears and sharp teeth occasionally. Ther are also personal side effects, you can have a lot or a little of these, Jazz gets ghost empathy for example as she wants to be a therapist.

Death touched (Sam and Tucker)

Death touched are like liminals, but closer to being a halfa than just a strange human. You can't be both a liminal and a death touched, it's one or the other. Death touched happen because they came close to death, this can happen in multiple ways, someone might kills thousands of people or be so surrounded by death (even if they didn't cause it) that they become a death touched. Death touched can also be created by coming close to death themselves, maybe they nearly die (or do die) but are miraculously saved or brought back, a stab victim somehow surviving, someone's heartbeat brought back at the last possible moment; they can also survive, an acrobat who hesitated and didn't grab the broken equipment, a rock climber who managed to grab another rock and stop themselves from falling to their death, things like that create a death touched. Sam and Tucker are Death Touched because of being so close to Danny and nearly getting killed so many times because of it, Sam decided Danny would go in the portal first, the events of Undergrowth and Freakshow and Dan. Death touched have powers, they can use basic ghost powers like intangibility, flight, invisibility, ectoblasts, but it takes a lot of effort and it's hard to train, they also have stronger personal powers which are normal ghost strength rather than weak (Sam can control plants, Tucker's a technopath and can summon sand because of the whole reincarnation thing), they have weak cores but their cores can have types and colours (Sams core is a dark purple plant core).

Halfa

We all know what halfas are, like any 'levels' of ghosts they can be more or less powerful, they also died in a ghost portal or somewhere else where they were blasted with ecto as they died (they can also just half die or be revived wrong, but portals are the main reason). The basic thing is: they have both human and ghost stuff equally, a liminal might need to have some ecto to be alright ad be able to mainly eat human food but a halfa would need a normal amount of both, or humans need to breath or have a pulse but they don't have too and can silence their cores (and therefore ecto signatures) to levels that would kill a ghost, they have both obsessions (a ghost need) and need to have social contact (a human thing), this can differ depending on your head canons/which au this is in and which halfa we're talking about but that's the basics.

Ghost (ember)

Write stuff here! Died and became a ghost, not much to it, more powerful ghost can leave the ghost zone, everyone becomes a ghost, a ghosts memory or their human life can range from none to every detail, etc.

Neverdeads (clockwork)

Write stuff here! Ghosts who never died and kinda just popped into existence or were born, never died but are ghosts.

While Danny died to electricity, he also had radiation and ectoplasm (all three of which killed him and then revived him (the electrify doing most of the killing the the ectoplasm most of the reviving)) and Danny did not in fact pass out, he was stuck in limbo for 5ish minutes then fell to the ground, arm charred and with Lichtenberg scars, while puking a mix of ectoplasm, blood, and the stuff he'd eaten and drank the last day.

True ghost form has black scalera (the white part of eye) and he changes it for kids to be lest scared

A haunt

A ghosts territory, theirs to protect/rule/dictate depending on the ghost. Like Danny and Amity Park.

A lair

A ghosts house, it might not necessarily be their haunt even though sometimes it is. Overall it's like a second haunt, but only for them, it's almost always in the ghost zone. Like Skulkers island or Clockworks tower, or Pariahs castle/keep (even if technically it's the high kings). Danny doesn't have one yet but I'd imagine he gets one shortly after accepting he's the ghost king.

A nest

Almost like a bed, either in a ghosts lair or their haunt. It's almost always just one room (often a bedroom), it's a place to be comfortable, to be theirs, where a ghost will feel the most safe. I can't think of an example for this.

WIP Soundtrack Tag

Thank you for the tag, @vcaudley; in return I offer anyone who feels like sharing their tunes the chance to jump in.

It took me a minute to put this together, and in the meantime, @hrh-spinach requested I do the ten songs one again so I'm looking at this as combining the two. But these are the songs I've been playing the most while working on this thing, a longer story about Tifa and Cloud post-OG canon. But I've also thrown in a few that are anthems for this series as a whole.

Ain't it Funny by Danny Brown This is the vibe. Making up for the teenage years you lost to trauma and imprisonment with reckless sex and drug use is all fun and games until it isn't; the whole album exemplifies this, in addition to just being one of my favourites, but this track. This track! The way the trumpet line keeps on shifting and becomes increasingly urgent and siren-like as the song goes on - it's perfect.

Phenom by Thao and the Get Down Stay Down I chose this to exemplify the anger that comes with any sort of self-awakening or actualisation, aimed at the world and on some level at yourself for not allowing it before. And I apply that to the whole village the story takes place in, compromised mostly of the denizens of an oppressed undercity who barely escaped the near-apocalypse event that made their former home its epicentre. (As an aside, I'd never looked up the video for this before, and I love it!)

Ghosts in My Heart by Mariee Sioux Zooming back in on our protagonists now. Two people who've come a long way from where they were, but whose journey to that increase in self-awareness has given them a whole new set of baggage to work through. And doing that work is even harder when you're surrounded by a slew of people hailing you as heroes, leaders, saviours, and new best friends.

Sleep is a Curse by Maudlin of the Well This one featured in my last fic soundtrack tag post as a default Cloud song, but here it is again. The conflicted and guilty thoughts he's wrestling with while trying his best to implement the healthier ways of being he's learned and to show up for the community they're trying to build.

Hyper-Ballad by Björk Related to the above; when you're finally able to breathe freely in a place that's safe and secure, are you going to do that difficult work of self-examination about the role you were led to place on yourself... or are you going to find a whole new one to sink yourself into? Tifa is no longer working herself to the bone trying to keep the party together - instead, her need to always be providing a service means she's doing it for a whole village instead!

Flower's Grave by Tom Waits I feel like the title alone is completely self-explanatory if you're of even passing familiarity with these characters.

Hello Stranger by Julia Holter This is one of my absolute favourite cover songs I've ever heard. She took the melancholic tinge of the original tune turned into this haunting, surreal, Badalamenti-esque dirge and I absolutely love it. For my purposes, I'm using it to represent Tifa and Cloud's first reunion in Midgar. It's beautiful, dreamlike, soothing - but still an illusion.

Hello Earth by Kate Bush This is the song that to me comes closest to capturing the panoramic feeling of choosing to live; it's even more powerful in context and I really recommend checking out the whole Ninth Wave suite if you've never heard it before. And if here the whole planet chose to live, this makes me think of Cloud reflecting on his moment of briefly glimpsing what humanity dissolving collectively into the lifestream would've felt like - the connection he's been seeking and failing to find all his life. I can't believe there wouldn't be at least a trace of residual regret there.

När Gudarna Kalla by Forndom, Anomaly of Silence by Yikii, Wüste by Einstürzende Neubauten, Song of the Sisters by Hans Zimmer Grouping all of these together, and in contrast to the above entry; these are the songs I draw on for trying to map and convey the experience of being linked to the Jenova memory-hivemind, when it's in both congruence and conflict with itself. The simultaneous fear, revulsion, resentment, and allure of it, and what it means for Cloud to again push away a chance at connection and complete understanding for the better of the rest of the world. Finding ways to convey this in words is the height of "Why do I do these things to myself?" so far - but that's what the second draft is for.

Mary Magdalene by FKA Twigs This whole album has been a go-to for getting into Tifa's headspace here. Going back again to her compulsion to always be busy, to be doing something for someone else, whether it's kicking ass or making drinks or building bars or chairing meetings or simply being hot - anything to avoid being alone with her thoughts. Here specifically, she's trying on different roles and archetypes the same way Twigs does in the song. Taking what works for her and what doesn't from each, all well and good, but who is she when no-one's looking?

Poison by HTRK I haven't gotten to the drugged up, bad-idea sex portion of the story yet, but when I do!

Tuck by Katie Gately Truth be told I have no idea what she's talking about here, but I love the imagery and the whole vibe is darkly horny and intense in the exact way I'm looking for.

Country Rain by Slowdive The deepest sense of isolation is found in feeling alone while in company, and I don't have much more to say about this one than that.

Blind by TV on the Radio And this is the opposite. The long, trudging path towards living authentically and vulnerably, and the more genuine connection that can wait for you at the end of it. The mortifying ordeal of being known and the joy of being seen, I suppose.

Earth Day by Devin Townsend Devin's discography is a really inspirational listen if you're going through any kind of recovery process. Over the course of it - and I've only taken in a small sampling so far - you can track a man who found a way to get his shit together, and he did it with a sardonic humour that I find really refreshing when some recovery talk comes off really platitudinous. And that I think really befits the characters in question. What I love here, aside from the focus on falling in love with the every day and mundane, is the mocking edge I hear in the first "Like a child you're born again" - I don't believe a singer so emotive would put that in there without purpose. But by the chorus comes back, I think he's singing it with his whole heart, and that's what I'm always moving towards.

Monstrously Low Tide by Maudlin of the Well This is where my head's largely at these days, and it's also where I'm trying to get these two. I'm looking at everything I've written here and thinking I've bitten off far more than I can chew - not least because I'm omitting or being vague about so much - and wondering how I can possibly bring it all together into something cohesive and true to canon. But that ringing outro. That's why. I've got to try my hardest.

And let's have a few that I apply to the series overall:

Prelude and Final Fantasy by Nobuo Uematsu Got to have some music from the actual game in here. When it comes to my longer and more involved fics I've found these two pieces fantastic for getting my openings and endings down - if I can try to capture the sense of intrigue and rebirth and crossing into a new world that I get from the prelude, and the series main theme's sense of a grand culmination, I feel like I'm on the right track.

A Part of Us by Fever Ray A walnut tree takes a long time to bear fruit. Something like ten years after it's planted, if I remember correctly. It's a song about finding your joy moment to moment where it arrives, even when you know you're building something you may not live to see in full bloom - and not disregarding the danger that's still waiting at the end.

Lotus by Susumu Hirasawa This man's music has been my closest companion in assembling and writing this project, my partner who enables me excepted. It's so cinematic and evocative. This track especially is like the the very distilled essence of "victory" in audial form. It's my anthem for my thirties, because I don't think you could make a sound as jubilant and transcendent as this if you haven't known some pretty major defeats first.

Heirloom by Björk and Severed Crossed Fingers by St. Vincent I remember a post going around a while ago about "your" love song, the song that sounds like love to you. These are mine, and I chose them specifically because they're as applicable to platonic love, familial love, and the love of a culture and a community as they are the romantic kind, and I try my best to give equal importance to all of those in my writing.

Storm by Godspeed You! Black Emperor I want to structure my series like this piece. When I hear the opening notes, I think of a sleeper waking up, slowly, opening their eyes and blinking as if they can't believe the world is still here, or in such an unrecognisable state. And it builds into towers falling, statues toppling, all the signifiers of the old world crumbling to dust. We can mourn the parts we'll miss, and the opportunities that could have been, but one by one we'll learn the new way is better for us all.

And after that... well. It was a really beautiful twelve minutes.

Flower From Hell from Higurashi A friend sent me this OP from an anime I haven't seen (yet) ages ago in relation to FFVII, and she's right. This is breaking the cycle, transcending the role, and taking as many other people with you as you possibly can.
