Damsel In The Garden
Tumblr media
Damselfly of the Infuscans Morph gracing the Gardens by the Bay. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
Taken against some purple flowers in the background. The bokeh looked decent coming from the budget Canon EF-S55-250mm. Keeping as close to the damselfly as the situation permitted and leaving the backdrop a good distance away could also have helped.

Spotted Hyena, Maasai Mara by Ray in Manila Via Flickr: Spotted hyenas are famed scavengers and often dine on the leftovers of other predators. But these hardy beasts are also skilled hunters that will take down wildebeest or antelope. They also kill and eat birds, lizards, snakes, and insects. In an increasingly overpopulated Africa, hyenas and humans come into frequent contact. In fact, the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania actually leave their dead to be consumed by hyenas. However, these intelligent and bold animals will raid food stores and crops and are blamed for many livestock and even some human deaths. In some areas they have been heavily hunted as destructive pests. Spotted hyenas are the largest of three hyena species. Brown and striped hyenas are the other two. Although hyenas appear similar to dogs, they are actually more closely related to cats. www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/s/spotted-hyena/

あけましておめでとうございます。
実家に郵送した7D2が大晦日までに届かなかったので今年の親戚が集まりではフィルム機のみで過ごし、実家に帰って再配達を受け取るまでは一線を退いて実家に置いてあった60Dを使っていました。

African Sunrise, Amboseli National Park
flickr
African Sunrise, Amboseli National Park by Ray in Manila Via Flickr: PUBLISHED: afrikaportal.eu/en/animal-protection-in-africa-1-with-dog... www.terra-incognita.travel/2018/the-incarnation-of-the-ne... ----------------- Amboseli National Park, formerly Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve, is in Kajiado County, Kenya. The park is 39,206 hectares (392 km2; 151 sq mi) in size at the core of an 8,000 km2 (3,100 sq mi) ecosystem that spreads across the Kenya-Tanzania border. The local people are mainly Maasai, but people from other parts of the country have settled there attracted by the successful tourist-driven economy and intensive agriculture along the system of swamps that makes this low-rainfall area (average 350 mm (14 in)) one of the best wildlife-viewing experiences in the world with 400 species of birds including water birds like pelicans, kingfishers, crakes, hamerkop and 47 raptor species. The park protects two of the five main swamps, and includes a dried-up Pleistocene lake and semiarid vegetation. About 240 km (150 mi) southeast from the capital city Nairobi, Amboseli National Park is the second-most popular national park in Kenya after Maasai Mara National Reserve. The park is famous for being the best place in the world to get close to free-ranging elephants. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet Maasai and visit a Maasai village. The park also has views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Amboseli was home to Echo, perhaps the most researched elephant in the world, and the subject of many books and documentaries, followed for almost four decades by American conservationist Dr Cynthia Moss. Echo died in 2009 when she was about 60 years old. Amboseli National Park offers some of the best opportunities to see African wildlife because the vegetation is sparse due to the long, dry months. The protected area is home to African bush elephant, Cape buffalo, impala, lion, cheetah, spotted hyena, Masai giraffe, Grant's zebra, and blue wildebeest. A host of large and small birds occur too. The park has several rules to protect the wildlife: Never leave the vehicle, except at designated spots; do not harass the animals in any way; always keep to the tracks; no off-road driving; and always give the animals the right of way. The roads in Amboseli have a loose surface of volcanic soil that is dusty in the dry season and impassable in the wet season. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amboseli_National_Park

From Earth Science Picture of the Day; October 28, 2018:
Archive - Stained Granite at The Hazards, Tasmania Photographer & Summary Author: Don Cherry
Each Sunday we present a notable item from our archives. This EPOD was originally published October 29, 2012.
Years of running water have stained the bare rock faces of the granite at The Hazards on the Freycinet Peninsula in eastern Tasmania, Australia. This Devonian-aged granite forms the main spine of a prominent range on the island, reaching about 2,035 ft (620 m) above sea level. The spine is the eroded remains of a mountain building process, which stretched far north into Victoria (mainland Australia).
The deep pinkish color of the medium to coarse-grained granite is due to iron impurities in the orthoclase feldspar. In other parts of the Peninsula, closer to the water level, a rich orange pigmentation is found -- attributable to lichen growing on the rock surface just above the wave zone. Not only is this area impressive for its colored granite, but the local sandy beaches, such as the famous Wineglass Bay, are made of pure white quartz sand, forming long arcing stretches between the granite promontories. The pink granite quarried here has been used in building architecture in Tasmania and at the Parliament House in the Australian capital of Canberra. This area was declared a National Park in 1916. Photo taken on September 27, 2012.

Cannonballs In The Garden
Tumblr media
Couroupita guianensis producing cannonballs in the botanic garden. Photo credit: Eleanor Chua.
This was captured during a momentary cloud cover with the consumer Canon EF-S55-250mm lens. Despite its budget design, it had been giving us sharp and contrasty images. In fact, we had sometimes needed to tone them down a bit.

I like Nakano さとる teacher @onakan_s I took a picture of the little sparrow. I borrowed a camera today and learned to shoot. Although it is not satisfactory to me, I want to try shooting again next week. 很喜欢中野 さとる老师 @onakan_s 拍的小麻雀,我今天借了一个相机也学习了一下拍摄,虽然并不能让我满意,但我想下周的时候再去尝试拍摄一次 #Canon EOS 500D EF-S55-250mm f4-5.6 IS #mobilephotography #mobi300 use our tag #_rmm for feature on our page. #earthcapture #unique_feature_page #earthfocus #raw_insects #insectsofinstagram #macroshot#india_highfive_photography #macrophotography #macroalit #full_phonography #natgeoindia #yourshotphotographer #indiashutterbugs #macrojaegger #bbcwildlifepotd #mypixeldiary#life_being_a_picture #indianphotos #mobigrapher #thundershot9 #macro_photography_lovers #raw_macro #myinstashot_ #shotonphone #npi #mobilephotography #world_photogra https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ4xTcUvL3p/?utm_medium=tumblr

Chimpanzee, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya
flickr
Chimpanzee, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya by Ray in Manila Via Flickr: The chimpanzees’ natural home range spans from Senegal on the West African coast, through the central forested belt of Africa, to Uganda. They are not native to Kenya, but when a rescue centre in Burundi had to be closed due to the civil war outbreak in 1993 – Ol Pejeta opened its doors. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established with an agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The aim – to provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. Over the last decade, Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary has been compelled to keep accepting chimpanzees rescued from traumatic situations - bringing the total number of chimpanzees in the Sanctuary to 39. Many are confiscated from cramped and unnatural living conditions, and many arrive with horrific injuries sustained from abuse at the hands of humans. Here at Sweetwaters, they get a chance to start over. With 24-hour veterinary support and a stimulating quarantine enclosure, chimpanzees arriving at the Sanctuary are carefully nursed back to health. When they are ready, they are introduced into one of the two large groups at the Sanctuary, who live in vast natural enclosures separated by the Ewaso Nyiro River. The chimps have set feeding times, and return to their indoor enclosures at night – but other than that they spend their days exploring, climbing, socialising, and learning to be chimpanzees all over again. Sweetwaters is a chartered member of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA), an alliance of 18 sanctuaries in 12 African countries; currently caring for over 800 orphaned and/or confiscated chimpanzees. PASA’s role is to help conserve chimpanzees and other primates and their habitats through public education and lobbying for political goodwill. www.olpejetaconservancy.org/wildlife/chimpanzees/sweetwat...
