Talking to a non-french about current events in France: Oh yeah, right now the french farmers are very unhappy about some laws and taxes, so they're protesting by doing a... what's the word for this in english? Oh! A siege. Yes, they're sieging Paris.
Them: I— It's... I don't think that's the right word. A siege is like, an army surrounding a castle or a city.
Me: Yeah yeah, that's it! They cut any access to the biggest highways around Paris with tractors and haystacks. I think they also intercepted some trucks with farm products from other countries and gave the products to charity, so they could protest against their work conditions and how little they're being paid.
Them: Oh my god! Is this a civil war?
Me: What? Of course not!
[confused silence]

Protesting French farmers accused Spanish producers of undercutting them by not fully observing EU rules. Last week, French former minister Ségolène Royal triggered controversy by claiming that Spanish organic tomatoes were "false organic". Amid an angry backlash from the Spanish food and farming industry, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez invited Ms Royal to try a Spanish tomato. However, Spain's agricultural sector in turn levels similar criticism at non-EU countries, such as its southern neighbour, Morocco, which it claims is not subject to the same environmental and sanitary regulations as European producers, allowing it to sell cheaper produce. "We have to undergo a lot of controls, a lot of sanitary regulations which products from [non-EU countries] are not subject to," said Estrella Pérez, who farms livestock and cereal. "We just want a future for farming and right now, we don't see it."

Farmers continue mass protests across Europe ahead of EU summit
The French government sent armoured vehicles to protect a wholesale food market in Paris on Wednesday, signalling an escalation in tensions over mass protests.
Farmers blocked motorways in France and Belgium and protests spread across Europe.
Spanish and Italian farmers have said they are joining a protest movement spreading across Germany that aims to force governments to relax environmental rules and protect them from rising prices and cheap imports.
With all eyes fixed on a summit of EU leaders scheduled for Thursday, the bloc’s executive commission has made proposals to restrict agricultural imports from Ukraine and relax some environmental rules.
However, these measures are unlikely to appease the anger of farmers, who have vowed to continue blocking motorways and ports until all their demands are met.

Helloooo farmer friends!! So last night my friend @pavusprince mentioned how she doesn’t understand the toothpaste mint chocolate chip ice cream comparison and that got me thinking!! Let’s talk about food!!
Does your farmer like mint chocolate ice cream? Does it taste like toothpaste? Are they neutral, or do they hate it?
During the summer does your farmer visit Alex’s ice cream stand? What flavor/treat do they buy? What’s their least favorite flavor?
What is one treat your farmer will ALWAYS have in their home? Is it healthy or unhealthy?
If your farmer was a snack item what would they be? (It cannot be a food that could be eaten like a meal, but it may be a dessert) Here’s some examples: chips, cookies, M&ms, Twinkies, crackers, bubblegum, lollipops, etc
What’s your farmer’s comfort food, favorite meal, and least favorite meal?
What’s something they will NEVER eat?
What do they cook if they know they will have a guest over?
If the town’s potluck didn’t matter so much, what ingredient would they take? And what food would they put at an event table if you had to bring something?
Finally, if your farmer was real, what would YOU give them to eat.
