This little fanfic was inspired by this Youtube video by Goretoons. While watching all could think of was Virgil and Roman singing it. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and with it being Roman’s time to shine this works pretty well.

Roman and Virgil were having another fight, nothing out of normal for the two. Even after Virgil’s name reveal and him trying to work things out with Thomas. Roman and Virgil still fight to the nail and tooth over the dumbest things. Today though, Patton was determined to make them act like a loving family, which is what put them in the situation they are in right now. Roman and Virgil were standing in the living room each holding a microphone and staring at the karaoke machine in front of them. Patton’s great idea for them to ‘bond’ more, Virgil was cringing as Roman continued trying to talk Patton out of it.

“-I mean, I do love singing and showing how amazing I am, but this is ridiculous. How am I to sing with Nightmare’s Bogeyman?!” Patton seemed to ignore him as he continued scrolling through the list of songs.

“I’m sorry to do this Roman but I can’t stand seeing family fighting and what better way of fixing it then with song?!” Patton gave a smile that showed excitement and hope. Virgil knew that face, they weren’t getting out of this no matter how Roman argued.

“I do have to agree with Patton, many studies show how teamwork activities and lyrical duets build a more strong trust and positive emotions.” Logan stood over Patton’s shoulder viewing the list, “I believe this song will help fix their current disagreement.” Logan pointed down at the list as Patton’s eyes lit up.

“Oh! It’s prefect and it’s from a cartoon isn’t that great Roman!” Roman sighed and gave in, it was far too late. Roman walked over to stand next to Virgil giving an annoyed look.

“At least try and not make me look bad as I give a show.” Virgil gave a small hiss in reply ignoring Patton's disapproving look. Patton pressed a button and the title appeared on screen. Virgil was surprised to say the least, he knew the song well. One of his favorites from Adventure Time really, and with the way Roman was quietly smiling it was a song he enjoyed as well. Virgil took a step forward showing he would sing first, Roman gave no sign of disagreement. Virgil’s voice rang out as Patton and Logan sat on the couch watching.

La da, da, da, da,

I'm gonna bury you in the, ground,

la da, da, da, da I’m gonna bury you with my sound

I’m gonna, drink the red from your pretty pink face.

Roman stood up not hiding the bitterness from his voice as he sang.

Are you done yet? Cause I’m tired of feeling guilty for this!

Is that what people really think about me? That I'm a god above all of you!

Virgil faced Roman sending a bitter glare at him as he stepped closer.

Sorry I don't treat you like you're perfect! like all your little loyal subjects do!

Sorry if I seem malicious but I can't sympathize with you!

I know that it hurts when you're lonely... but I cant take that burden from you! So!

I'm just your problem! Well.

Virgil’s voice shook and he was beginning to think Logan picked a song that was too perfect.

You're, your own

Problem

It's like I'm, not even a person am I?

I'm just your problem

And now, you wear this defensive attitude!

Roman took a step closer to Virgil, showing his anger in a intimidating stance. Virgil accepted the challenge and stood in front of Roman's face almost feeling his breath.

And I, shouldn't have to prove anything to you!

Virgil stepped down feeling his emotions betray him as his crawled in on himself, this was a bad idea. He wished he just ran into his room, now Roman would have another way to make fun of Virgil.

I'm sorry that I exist, I forgot what landed me on your blacklist

And I, will always be here, but it isn't my battle to save you from you!

Roman saw Virgil’s body shake and he himself was feeling the music take over him, allowing the emotions he buried rise back to the surface. His lines almost being lost in the shaking way his vocal cords sang out.

Why do I want to? ( x2 )

Yes I still want to ! ( x2 )

But I must! Stand, and watch!

I'm asking you!

But I still want to

So why do I want to?

Virgil stepped forward again, but this time it was hesitate and shaky. Too many emotions were surging through him to actually think about his actions. He looked up at Roman his eyes showing hurt and fear.

I guess that's why! I wanna bury you in the ground!

Because I care! Why you wanna bury me with your sound!

Roman cursed in his head as his voice cracked. He saw Virgil and his heart broke, he yelled at himself for all the times he hid his feels, all the times he showed hatred to this fear ridden trait. Every regret fueling the way his body moved closer to Virgil, as their foreheads brushed against each other.

I'm sorry that it's this way

But I don't know what else to say

Virgil could feel the tears that slipped past his face. He couldn’t care though as through his blurry vision, he could see Roman had the same tears in his eyes.

And I, promise you, you will never push me away

Roman slowly wrapped his arms around Virgil keeping their eyes locked on each other. Their voices quiet and broken as the song tumbled out of them.

Cause I..

Can not wait for..

When you say..

Virgil rested his head on Roman’s chest as the tears flooded down his face. The last lyric spoken softly in Roman’s ear.

I'm...just your, problem.

The music faded out but Roman just held Virgil tighter not wanting this to end. Not wanting the wall falling over them again, his heart couldn’t handle it. His breath catching in his throat every time a cry threaten to leave his lips. Tears staining the top of Virgil’s head as Virgil’s own tears stained Roman’s chest.

Logan slowly grabbed Patton’s hand leading him out of the room. “But they-”

“Shh, we shouldn’t bother them. They will have a long conversation that they would most likely want to be a private one.” Logan spoke quietly, as Patton gave Logan a look showing realization.

“You knew this would happen didn’t you?” Patton’s voice was surprised and impressed.

“Well, the signs of attraction were very clear, yet I did not calculate them having such a...emotional reaction to their feelings.”

Patton nodded, looking back at the doorway. He smiled back at Logan, “I’m glad they were able to work their feelings in such a beautiful way!”

Logan only nodded and turned to return to his room, “Give them a few hours to get everything straightened out. Maybe now we could settle debates with less unneeded emotions.”

“Y-yeah, our family will be even closer now!” Patton’s smile didn’t leave until he heard the sound of Logan’s door close. He smiled sadly at the ground, feeling his heart twisted in an uncomfortable knot. “If only you could see my feelings as clearly as theirs.” Patton smiled one more time in the direction of the two traits then he turned and slowly crept into his room. He sat on his bed with a plate full of cookies.
