It was my SO's birthday recently and he requested some Haibane Renmei art- very specifically sketched traditionally and then scanned and colored watercolor style in photoshop. Interesting throwback, both in terms of subject matter and the fact that I haven't like... scanned and colored a sketch since 2018? Wild.
Anyway Haibane Renmei is very good and Reki is like... sad girl with an aesthetic I really enjoy so this was an obvious choice. I super recommend the anime to any baby weebs who haven't heard of it- it was one of those artsy cult classics back in the 2000s and while budget-wise it won't have aged well I think its complexities and ideas are pretty timeless. Reki sad.

Daughter of Phantom, Lady Gotham.
I love Lady Gotham stuff in the DCxDP stories, like a lot, so what if, hear me out (Long post is long, I rambled again)
Lady Gotham is Danny's daughter.
How? How about Danny is hurt (his parents? GIW? Vlad?), like badly, to the point even his core is damaged and the time needed to heal would take years, like a lot of years. Like it was bad that even his Rogues were shocked and shaken. They eventually get him to the Realms but are unsure what to do next. So they're scrambling trying to figure out how to save him.
So when CW appeared he asked to handed the Core because he knows what to do, where to hide him so he can heal they don't question it, everyone in the Realms know CW, the Ancient of Time itself, has a soft spot for Phantom. He opens a portal to a different world, not Danny's he can't run the risk of GIW finding him, to a just beginning world, the new world will help speed up his healing, and with Frostbite's help they set up a healing chamber deep, deep in the ground. Once they made sure everything is set up and safe, they place his core inside the healing pod and return every so often to check on him.
Over time though, above on the surface of that world it's timeline starts. Animals, creatures, humans, aliens, magic users, etc etc begin and with it, because even as a half healing core, Danny's power and ectoplasm starts effecting the area he's resting in (Ghost King Danny? Young/New Ancient/Eldritch Being? Or just an OP Danny?) (Clockwork and even Frostbite showing up every so often doesn't help either, it explains why Gotham is so cold sometimes or why time seems... off)
Anyways due to Danny's power (along with bits of Clockwork and Frostbite), magic of this world, and people beginning to build a small town on top of the land it gives birth to the namesake of the town.
GOTHAM.
CW foresaw her 'birth' and finds her sitting in front of Danny's healing pod. He always knew Gotham would eventually form, the belief/love her people have in her would had given her a form eventually he just wasn't expecting her to form so soon (this is why Danny remains his favorite person, he always did something CW never really see's to often) nor was he expecting her to become Danny's daughter. Gotham looks a bit like Danny, dark hair, blue eyes, pointed ears, sharp teeth, glowing star like freckles, but she also reflects her people, the ones that call Gotham home so her image shifts sometimes. But he can see small hints of maybe himself and Frostbite in the shifts.
She is 100% Danny's daughter via spirit/ectoplasm. If anything CW and Frostbite are like many times removed family members when it comes down to ectoplasm.
She's silent for a moment before she asks if "You and the other come here often to see him... The one sleeping is he my father?" Which CW does confirm, he explains why Danny is healing and who he and Frostbite are and why they show up to make sure he is doing better. How his healing will take many, many years. She goes silent again before saying "Teach me how to protect him. I am new and young compared to others... and yet I already know if anyone desires him for the power he gives, they will stop at nothing. He is my father and I am his daughter, I need to keep him safe just how I know he would keep me safe. This much I know."
CW agrees.
She learns, from her father's allies (CW, Frostbite, Pandora, etc etc) how to defend and fight. How to protect what she loves. She watches over her father and fights off demon's, monsters, sometimes an alien that senses the slumbering power, evil magic users. Etc. She watches over the town and people who named her as well, falls in love with the humans who call her home as well and defends them as well.
She even gets the blunt force of a curse a powerful old entity that tired to place it on her father after she had just banished it from her lands. It's an old powerful curse that CW or Frostbite can't rid of because it would weaken her far to much that they run the risk of her fading, the only way to get rid of it is if she had a family member feeding her ectoplasim to help sustain her. (Her aunts can't because Jazz isn't ghostly enough and Danielle can't because hers is limited due to being a clone (like she has enough for herself but does need to visit the Infinite Realms during her travels to get more ectoplasim to filter in and out). Danny is their only chance because he's constantly filtering ectoplasim in and out and even creating it because of how he died with a portal opening up at the same time)
The curse slowly starts eating away at Gotham, makes it hard for her to have a solid corporeal form because pain (when she has to use this form to fight off others she has to bare through the pain), her appearance starts changing (eyes turn from sharp ice blue to glowing yellow, skin turns deathly sickly pale, her star freckles slowly blinking in and out, hands become inked claws, her dark hair is unkempt and spills like an oil sludge down her body and face) and because Danny is still healing himself he can't help her and she can't see him all too often anymore because she doesn't want to run the risk of the curse effecting his healing core, she does get updates from the other ghosts that visit him and then her. She still defends him though, outside of his healing chambers should on the rare chance something finds it way down to him.
Eventually due to Danny's and Gotham's natural ectoplasim filtering on the lands, visiting and powerful ghosts, Gotham fighting off powerful beings trying to use her father for power, and the curse on Gotham herself, the town that had been built on the ground above by humans becomes the very city we all know.
Its a whole mixed bag do to so many factors, that's why Gotham is the way it is.
Gotham does her best to keep her people safe from well... everything but due to the curse and the fighting off another person/entity/demon/magic user/etc coming for her father's power, she can't always do much by the time one crisis is over and a new one pops up, she's slowly breaking down the longer it takes.
That's why she has a soft spot for her Dark Knight and his family and allies, they help her from the pain from the curse by trying as both the Wayne's and as the Batclan to fix up her city self, its not enough to really fix her fully but it helps with the pain that eats at her.
She does her best to give them tiny blessings though, but due to her duty of protecting her father she can't always do much (she wept when news of Jason, her second Robin, her rough around the edges bookworm, had died came to her. She couldn't protect him because he was out of her reach. Its why when Joker returned she made it very hard for him to really gain his foothold in her again but had to stop because CW told her if she kept making it too hard for the clown he'd go running off to 'play' with a different hero and that... that timeline would lead the world to ruin. She begrudgingly stopped but when Joker had taken her third Robin, her tiny Tim the one she loved watching shadow her knights, she did everything she could to keep him sane from the pain he had been put in, and lead Batman to the warehouse to save him. Also it turns out her heartbreak over Jason's death, her curse acting up, and her ectoplasim sparking off at the same time it helped bring him back from his grave not fully but somewhat, she was so shocked that she didn't have time to send hints to Bruce to get him when he was taken by Talia and once again out of her reach. She tried hinting it to Bruce that Talia had taken him but by the time he would check on the League, Talia would had moved him)
Gotham, depsite being young in the eyes of many other powerful beings and entities has held her own and kept those that wanted to use her father for power packing. Despite being cursed that is slowly eating her alive she still holds onto the hope her father will awaken and she will finally get to meet him. (She hopes she made him proud, he is a protector spirit core after all and she had been steadfast with keeping him safe all these years).
Things however take a turn for the worse when Gotham awakens from some sort of powerful slumber (she doesn't know what happened?! Did something knock her out?! When did she fall asleep?! Was it magic? Did the curse do it? Did someone or something-) And discovers someone or something had managed to steal her father slumbering core. (So close to healing, so close to awakening according to Frostbite, just a few more days he says. Just. A. Few. More. Days)
She tries to go find him but is suddenly hurting more, her curse has progressed even worse, she can barely stand, let alone fight whoever had her father. And she knows her father's friends won't be back to see her until far later.
And then all of Gotham shakes and shudders when her rage, panic, and terror are felt that early morning.
-×-×-
Deep in the Batcave, Batman and the others are searching for whatever caused that strange almost magical but not (ectoplasm) shudder that morning.
They were expecting a full scale attack. Magical, alien, maybe even all the Rogues in Gotham working together. An all scaled war. They were looking for any signs of it, maybe to by some miracle stop it before it becomes to late.
They however weren't expecting a strange sick looking woman with yellow glowing eyes, oil ink like hair covering her face and body, clawed hands like they had dipped in ink as well, star like freckles blinking in and out on her body and face, sharp ears, breathing heavily and coughing every so often to appear in the cave. Like she had sunk out from the shadows in pure silence. (Even Cass did not hear her)
Nor were they expecting her not to even flinch when they trained their weapons onto her. Instead all she did was laugh, a raspy low laugh, but it held warmth and mirth.
"Now, now my knights... No need for that. I come needing help and you are the only ones I will ever trust with this mission..." her voice was soft but harsh, talking seemed to hurt her though for she had to take deep breaths and suppress a cough. Her eyes trailed across them all, despite her sickly look her eyes gleamed with a motherly warmth in a strange sense, something all of them could feel "I can not hold this corporal form for long. Long story short I am cursed, have been for a very long time and whatever happened to me earlier this morning has aggravated it even more and thus I can not stay in the world of the 'living' to do much. My father, the one I have been protecting since my creation from all sorts of terrible and dangerous things, for should they get a hold of him it could spell the end of life itself for he is that powerful, has been taken from his healing chamber. I do not know who or where but I know he still remains in the city, that much I can sense."
She coughed and took a shuddering breath "But alas I can not go to his aid as I once has been able to, this is where you all come in. I need you to find my father, find his core. Bring him to safety. I had fought so many to keep him safe, to make sure he heals in peace for so long, and he... So close. Just a few more days he needed... then I could had finally had met him."
She lightly muttered those last few words, eyes looking lost for a moment before coughing hard.
"Who are you." Batman, Bruce Wayne, stonely demanded but for some reason he couldn't help but feel like he knows her, like from a foggy memory, and by the looks of his family they all could sense the same thing.
The woman, or whatever she was, merely smiled, sharp teeth bared in it as she looked him right in the eyes and said.
"Gotham, my dear Dark Knight. I am Lady Gotham herself. Its wonderful to finally meet you despite the circumstances."

Shy!reader skipping one of Sirius’s quidditch matches cause they’re having insecurity about whether or not they are good enough to be with Sirius cause someone said something about the personality difference etc.
ily🤟
ily too ! i implied a personality difference more than i outright said it, i hope that's alright :) also this is based off of my crippling fear of cheering at sporting events because it never sounds right when it comes from my mouth
--
Sirius finds you in the library, crouched by a pile of books and poking through a bottom shelf. It looks like you're researching astronomy, he gathers, from the titles he sees.
Your fingers hook around the spine of Prominent Constellations of the Modern World, and he wonders why you're digging through old discoveries.
You don't see him standing over you as you peel the cover open, flipping through each page that's alphabetized by constellation name. He sees you skid to a halt at a 'C's, then- oh.
You've opened to Canis Major, fingers skimming over the page until your pointer reaches Sirius.
"Not as pretty as I am," He drawls, crouching to hug you from behind and chuckling warmly at your shocked squeal. You'd recognize his voice anywhere, but you hadn't been expecting it, so it still frightens you.
"You scared me!" You gush, face turned to the side to stare at him where his chin perches on your shoulder, "You're the worst."
"No," He bumps his nose into yours, "I'm the best. I won today's match, y'know? Well, I mean, 'didn't catch the snitch, but I knocked Ravenclaw's seeker out of the way so our guy could."
"Good job, Siri," You croon, eyes dimming at the mention of the match, "I.. I know I said I would come, I just.. I got nervous."
"Nervous? Why," He unlocks his arms from around your torso, falling back onto his butt with a grunt, "Y'know, I'm not aiming to hit you with the bat, darling. Just the bludgers."
"I'm not worried you'll clobber me," You giggle, the dusty book still propped open to his own star in your lap, "I just.. I'm not very supportive at your games, am I?"
He cocks his head to one side, "Supportive? Um, you're there, aren't you? That's pretty supportive."
"But I don't cheer," You sigh sadly, "I.. I don't even think I know how. Shouting seems.. weird. I clap," You promise, reaching for his hand and spinning one of his smooth rings around his finger, "You know I clap, I just.. I think I'd mess up if I tried cheering with everyone. And- and I don't want to come and not cheer! 'Cause then I look grumpy, and your girlfriend shouldn't be grumpy at your game."
"You can't mess up a cheer," Sirius laughs, squeezing your fingers with his own, "That's silly, love. But if it makes you nervous, you don't need to come."
"Yes I do," You lament, "I- I like the games! I really do, it's just.. I feel sort of out of place, y'know? I'm not exactly the sports bunny. Broom.. bunny?"
Your nose scrunches at the way the phrase falls off of your tongue, and it makes you look rather like the animal itself. Sirius leans in to kiss it with a fond smile, letting his forehead rest against yours and his breath fan over your face.
"You can come if you want," He reasons, "And if you don't want to, then don't. 'S not any more complicated than that, love. And besides, 'm not gonna be deprived of cheering. Prongs cheers louder than the entire stadium, and he's the one they're cheering for."
You know it's true. The curly-haired chaser has a habit of hyping up his team, whether they want him to or not. James could surely fill any gaps in enthusiasm that you can't.
"If you want to come, you can sit with Lily and Remus," Sirius plays with your ring now, one he'd given you from his own collection, "They usually sit and chatter in the stands. But if you want to stay back and read, or study, or stare at my picture," He brushes a hand over the book you've got open, and he practically feels the heat radiating from your cheeks, "Then that's fine, too. James will give you a second-by-second rehash of every move in the game, you know that."
He's done it before. He even tries doing it to people who were at the games, regaling them with the story of how he'd scored enough goals to make the Hufflepuff chaser sick to her stomach. Twenty minutes ago. In front of them.
"In fact," Sirius glances at the time, seeing it hasn't been too long since he'd gotten there, "I'm sure that's what he's doing now. If we rush to the common room you might be able to hear about how Peters took a nosedive 'cause a bee was in his face."
That tempts you off the ground and Sirius rushes with you for the exit, silently apologizing to Madam Pince who will be very upset about the stack of books left abandoned in the aisle. But he'd rather die than stop you now to put them away, not when there's an eager glint in your eyes and your hand is gripping his with a fervor.
"Come on, Siri," You drag him to the common room, voice made up of giggles and gushes, "I want to see him reenact it!"

Obligatory Reminders and Crossing the Lines
Have you been wondering why Shax tries to do a mail delivery to Crowley as he escorts the shop keepers to safety from Aziraphale's Eldritch Ball? It seems a pretty random thing to do at that moment.
Tumblr media
SHAX: I brought your mail. CROWLEY: Why? SHAX: It stacks up by the front door. CROWLEY: Keep it for now, not a good time.
It's not the first time Shax has tried to give Crowley his mail. We first see her hand a pile over on the park bench in S2E1, while they have an introductory spy vs. spy catch up, in St James Park.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SHAX: I brought your mail. CROWLEY: Anything interesting? SHAX: Bills, mostly. I don't understand why they won't just deliver them to your car. CROWLEY: Send the bills to Hell's finance office. SHAX: I did. They say they can't accept my signature as your replacement.
Bills, mostly. That aren't being accepted by Hell's finance office, unless Crowley signs them. And they expect to find him in the official residence of Hell's ambassador plenipotentiary to this corner of Earth, in Mayfair.
Next, we see Crowley redefining all that mail as "junk" and discarding it.
Tumblr media
uh huh. Lets ignore the conveniently placed disposal unit for the moment...
We need to stop and define what those "bills" actually are. Because they are not actually the financial type of bills. Well, they could be. But this is the GOmens AU, so they have a second meaning as well. Paying your bills is also meeting your duties and obligations to another party, and this is something Crowley is refusing to do right now.
I don't think its as simple as Hell being short staffed and they just haven't got around to doing the change over (I know I suggested the latter recently, sorry) and that's why they aren't recognizing Shax's signature. It's that Hell actually hasn't let Crowley go - he is still "on the books," so to speak, despite all that has been said and done since the Nope-ocalypse. He might call himself a "former demon," and he might call Hell his "former side," but that is definitely NOT how Hell sees it, despite the fact they aren't harassing him or giving him tasks to do.
Actually, that should be haven't been harassing him, because since Gabriel "disappeared," they have been back on his case. The mail is a warning sign, but Lord Beelzebub's summons really should have given you the chills.
Tumblr media
Crowley protests that they had a "generalized understanding" that he would be left alone, but Beelzebub declares that "we don't."
Ah. So all is not as it appears. They are just playing nice because they want something (Gabriel) and in reality Crowley's position in relation to Hell really is fragile. Yet outwardly he seems more worried about Aziraphale.
It goes downhill from here. Shax begins to stalk him.
Tumblr media
This image of Shax is just delish. The sharp "V" of her her decolletage reminds us of a stork's bill, her avatar animal, and it's stabbing down at the snake on her belt. She might be seeking the Frog Prince who escaped Heaven but she's also got a certain snake in her sights.
Tumblr media
Shax can't can't cross the threshold of the bookshop without an invitation from Aziraphale. This plays into the old belief that supernatural creatures such as vampires, demons and faeries can only enter a house if invited in. We also see this extended to the Bentley, once "ownership" is extended to the angel, but the door of the bookshop is the important border here for now.
Then have this threat of war being declared:
Tumblr media
War on Aziraphale, not Crowley, as they still consider Crowley to be on Hell's side. They don't see it the way Crowley does as Us and Them, to Shax there is still only Heaven and Hell.
So we come back to the second round of mail delivery:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crowley is about to escort the human shopkeepers to safety and Shax confronts Crowley right on the threshold with his duties and obligations. He really doesn't want to have that conversation right now, not here and not with Shax. As far as he is concerned, he has no obligations to Hell any more, and he's not taking any notice of their demands in any form, either, so Shax may as well just get out of the way and take the mail with them.
And with that, Crowley crosses the threshold, leading the humans out.
At this point in the story you might be asking what's the big deal about that? Crowley has been going in and out over that doorstep several times a day lately, and has crossed it hundreds of times over the last couple of centuries since the bookshop was built. It's not a barrier to him.
The significance of this boundary line has been highlighted to us in S2. We have Shax actually telling us that she knows she can't cross the "threshold" in S2E3, then she asks again in S2E5 where the boundary line is just before Mr Brown is hauled off into the demon Legion. But its even more than that.
On one level its the line that Crowley has drawn for himself. He's not going back to Hell if he can at all help it, and he's quite resolute about that. It's his side or no one's side, from there on in. He reinforces that when talking to Aziraphale in the Final Fifteen.
On another level, I'm wondering if we could consider this a step on the eponymous Hero's Journey? Crossing the Threshold is one of the early stages of the journey where the hero crosses into danger or the unknown. We're shown things aren't normal outside by the mist and green light. Then he diverts off unexpectedly to Heaven with Muriel. Just throwing it out there to see if its worth exploring a bit further. I'd say we've only got the early stages of the journey in S2, with the remainder to come in S3.

Running away
Tumblr media
After fleeing the Fire Nation's land you found yourself in a small fishing village. Filled with flowers in spring and sunlight in the summer, with piles of leaves in autumn and a tad of snow in winter. Just a hint of whiteness.
The last thing you would've expected from your travels was to end up here, having somewhat of a normal life, filled with joy. The only thing you would've changed was your last conversation with a certain someone.
“You used to have long hair,” a familiar but distant voice said, as you turned around.
"You used to be shorter," you said, face as serious as you could.
With a still straight face she said, "I could have you executed for that."
"Only if you can catch me," you finally broke a smile.
"True," Azula said, smiling as well.
"What brings you to this lovely and remote area of the world," you asked, pulling some things off the table.
"I was searching for someone. They owe me a goodbye," she said playfully.
You put some water in a kettle, "I believe they said goodbye already."
"Did they?"
"I gave you a letter, it's more than I did to most," you defended.
"You didn't give me a letter."
"Well, I hid it in your room. You found it, you can't lie to me Azula," you laughed.
She tried to maintain a serious face but dropped it soon as well, "I did find it."
"I couldn't exactly leave it laying around, not with everything that was happening."
"I understand," she nodded. "I just wish you had given it to me."
"I thought of it, but it was late. I had to ninja my way for it, I'm very proud of that," you said.
"Because of the guards?"
"Yeah, that and the fact that everyone had my face in a reward poster…"
She clasped her hands together and nodded.
"Why are you still standing, Zula?" You said bringing a kettle of tea to the table and sitting down. "Get comfortable, do you want anything else?"
"No, it's fine," she said, shifting in her spot.
"Is everything okay?"
"Of course. Why wouldn't it be," she asked in a paranoid tone.
"No reason," you said as she sat down. "Did you really come all this way just to get a goodbye?"
"Don't be silly, y/n. It's on the way in my travels," she lied.
It had been too long since she last saw you, and the way your voice strained in your throat took her off balance. Perhaps this was how you'd always spoken, but she didn't think so. Maybe she had just grown too paranoid.
"Where are you going?" You asked.
"Oh, let's not speak of that. How are you?"
The question rocked you off your place, but you managed not to show it.
"Well, I'm doing well. There's not much to do around here but fishing, so I do that, and sell that as well. I'm growing this tree in the back, it used to have a torn branch and it was falling off, but now it's looking good," you explained. "Sorry, you're probably bored by this." You said, knowing Azula wasn't one to be interested in the common occurrences of life.
"No, continue," she dismissed. And as you raised your eyebrow asked, "Please."
"Well, there is also a small dragon-moose that comes around every now and then, searching for food. I tend to leave a pot of fresh water and some leftovers for him." You paused to sip on your tea, "Other than that it's all pretty calm. There's mostly old people here, so no one asks many questions. They usually tell stories to me, not the other way around, which is good."
It was good, Azula thought. If you were still in hiding, even if you weren't in Fire Nation soil, it was good for people not to ask many questions.
"How do you know it's the same dragon-moose?" She found herself asking, much to her own surprise.
You were taken a bit aback by the question but answered anyways. "Oh, he has a little white spot in between the eyes. Plus he always waits for me to sit down before he eats the food. I don't know why, really."
She smiled, again to her surprise. How simple your life was, and how content with it you sounded. All you did was fish, feed animals and listen to old people's stories, and yet you looked like the happiest person in the world.
“It sounds wonderful,” she simply replied.
“Yeah… You sure you're fine?" You asked, concerned. It had been some time since you last saw her, but she didn't use to ask this many questions.
“You have nothing to worry about, y/n. I promise," she nodded.
"Okay… Do you plan on staying?"
"Would you like me to stay?"
"I'm asking so I know how much food I should make, you don't have to stay."
"If you want me to stay I'll stay," she stated.
You blinked in surprise, not expecting that. "Uh, yeah, I would love that," you smiled. "That would be great."
She nodded once again, this time with a smile plastered on her face. She thought about staying there, in your little house by the sea.
Things would be so easy if she just had one more chance with you.
But she had Zuko and his friends on her heels, and it was better to leave you out of Fire Nation problems. One last dinner with you, that was all she needed.
When you woke up next morning with the house silent you knew she was gone, and when you walked into the kitchen and saw the note you hoped she was safe.
A little ‘thank you’ was all you had, and it was all you’d need.

How strong is Joey? You said previously he has big man tatas
And how’d he treat his sons vs daughters? I feel like he’s accidentally lovingly misogynistic. Especially given his conservative religious upbringing. Like he doesn’t believe that darling should labor in the sun, but he doesn’t believe that darling is lesser than him because she’s a woman. Does this make sense?????
Joey's actually very good about beating back any unintentional misogyny. He has a lot of family members, but Betty Jo, one of his sisters, is probably the biggest and strongest laborer in the family. She's huge, and could probably hog tie a cow and carry it into the next field if she needed. He's no stranger to women working just as hard if not harder at traditional masculine activites than men.
He tends be more gentle and allow darling to stay in the house and do stereotypically feminine chores because he just loves them so much! He thinks they're delicate, and their from the city. He doesn't want them to overwork themselves!
As far as kids, Joey is thrilled at whatever his little guy or gal is into! More of a home chores kid? Great! Wants to help on the farm? Awesome. Doesn't really want to do anything but sit and play with rocks? A little odd, but he's more than happy to join in.
The only real difference in how Joey treats kids is age. Until the kid is about eight or so, Joey will treat them like glass. Gently holding them, extremely slow and careful piggyback rides, and baby proofing the house even if they're old enough to ride a bike and swim. Once they're over eight? All bets are off. Play wrestling, swinging the kid around over his head, or throwing them into a big bale of hay from the hayloft. All if the kid is okay with it, of course.
He's excited is his kiddo is good at something he isn't. If Joey's little boy comes up to him and talks about how much he likes cooking or baking, Joey's thrilled! He's always had someone too make meals for him, and he can't cook to save his life. He's so excited that his kiddo has a hobby he can learn with them. Regardless of what his kid is into, he'll sit and listen with fascination.
Joey has had a lot of siblings, but as the youngest boy he doesn't have a ton of experience with babies. Because of this, you'll have to tell him off from time to time, as well as his other family members because of the odd things he may do. He's only ever been around baby animals, so you'll have to explain why human babies can't be held by a scruff, or why they won't start walking within a few days like a baby cow. He's a little disappointed he won't be able to have a conversation with his kid for a few years, but that doesn't stop him from talking to them.
"Mhmm, there's my big healthy lil' dumpling'. What're you gigglin' at, huh? You happy to see daddy? Are ya?"
Joey is thrilled that his family uses hand me downs so much now that he has kids of his own. Seeing his little girl in his old red truck shirt of his little boy in some big green rain boots is enough to make him cry. Expect to see him showing the kids and the rest of the town old family photos of him in the same clothes when he was little.
He's a great dad, especially in the early years. Diapers need changed? He's dealt with grosser. Babies hungry? You stay in bed, he'll feed them. You honestly don't even need to purchase a crib, because his baby is not leaving his broad chest.
"Cmon, darlin'! I'm big and soft, I'm just as good as any old crib, and Joey Jr. Here agrees. Let him stay a lil' longer? Please?"

Sunday gives you an excuse to get away. Pete, like a dog with his tail between his legs, doesn't even try to come up with an excuse to 'work'. You take Simone with you to the grocery store, warning the slug that he can handle Malik for a couple hours alone. You notice the pout in his lips but don't acknowledge it.
You don't need much but you take your time. You agree to buy Simone an Archie comic, shrugging off the extra few dollars as you notice her growing restless. You made her leave her book at home. You're happy she loves to read but she can't ignore the world all the time.
"You wanna get lunch?" You ask as you push the cart through the lot.
"Mm, I dunno," she drags her feet, "I'm tired."
"Probably 'cause you need to eat," you judge her with your elbow, "come on, how often is it just the two of us."
She grumbles but you ignore her reluctance. You're in no hurry to get home and you can scrounge enough for a sit down in the diner. It might be the last nice thing you can afford.
You load up the bags on the trunk and drive down the block to the same place you would take Simon when you were still pregnant with Malik. Those days were nice and so far behind you. The memory makes your heart ache.
You open the door ahead of Simone and follow her into the mom and pop shop. You're seated by the window in a booth. You order coffee as your daughter gets an apple juice. You peruse the menu but you're not very hungry.
"Oh, they still have the grilled cheese," you say.
"Yeah…" she continues to read the menu, nonplussed by your suggestion.
You tap your toe and cup your chin as you look out the window. It's a nice day even if you're gloomy inside. You turn back to the table and flip over the menu.
The waitress returns with your drinks. You sip your coffee before you order a mac and cheese and Simone gets chicken fingers. You hand the menus over and smile at your daughter. She's old enough, she'll catch on soon.
"So, what's your latest adventure about?" You ask.
"Uh, well, I just read one about a knight. She's a girl and she goes off to fight an army of trolls…"
You immerse yourself in her retelling of the children's novel. You don't care, it's better than reality. You giggle and smile as she becomes more animated. She can be so monotone but her passion makes you proud.
A figure approaches, breaking your trance, and you look over expecting the waitress. To your chagrin, it's not.
You grip the edge of the table as Simone's voice peters out and she looks at the man with her cool deadpan. You clear your throat, fighting the urge to reach across and shield her. Mr. Hansen smirks down at you as he glances between you and your daughter.
"Funny running into you here," he snickers, "enjoying your weekend."
"Just having lunch," you say crisply, "hope you're having a good Sunday."
You turn straight on the bench and look at Simone as you gesture for her to face you. She frowns as you try to come up with an escape plan. You don't even know what to say and he's not going anywhere.
"Oh I'm having a wonderful weekend. Look at you, how cute, this must be the spawn."
"Spawn?" Simone murmurs, "hey, what's your deal, guy?"
"Sim," you wave her off, "that's good to hear Mr. Hansen. I hate to keep you so–"
"Room for one more?" He winks.
"Ew, no," Simone speaks before you can, "mom, tell him to go away."
"She's mouthy. Not hard to guess why," he scoffs.
You slide off the seat and stand, stepping between him and the table. You arch a brow, pleading with your hands out.
"Please, sir, we're just enjoying a meal out. I'll see you tomorrow. At work."
He watches you, his amusement playing on his face. He's enjoying seeing you squirm, just like before. He always knows the most sensitive spot to hit. Your kids would be top of the list.
"Tomorrow," he winks as he leans back on his heel, "we got a special meeting, don't we?"
"Sir," you hiss.
He chuckles and rolls his eyes, "alright, ladies, enjoy your lunch."
He backs up and struts away. You don't sit until he's out the door. What on earth is he even doing in a place like this? It's not exactly a Michelin star experience.
You settle back in and swallow, turning to watch out the window. He isn't in his usual suit but still dressed nicely. A peach polo peeking out under a teal bomber jacket and canary pants. Tacky if you say so yourself.
"Who was that weirdo?" Simone asks.
"My boss," you lean back, "just saying hi."
"He's strange. Like the villain in the book I was reading," she scowls out the window, "you need a new job."
You laugh despite yourself, "you have no idea. First things first, I'm starving."
🗄️
You get home, exhausted. You put away the groceries and tidy up. Of course Pete couldn't clean up after making a mess of the kitchen for a simple PB and J. You sigh as you finish and look in on the kids in the living room.
Malik colours as Simone creases her brow at her book. You hear Pete outside working on his Corvette. For a brand new car, it sure needs a lot of maintenance.
You tell the kids you'll be upstairs if they need anything. You go to the bedroom and open the closet. You're so anxious about tomorrow, you may as well get ready to face the music.
You pick out an outfit. Nothing special. You don't have anything fashionable. It's not like you need more than a striped blouse and worn black pants. You just don't want to come back up there to grab it all in the morning.
As you come downstairs, you hear Malik giggling. You peek in through the doorway with your armful of clothing. Pete sits on the floor at the coffee table beside the boy and scribbles with a crayon. He meets your eye as you pass and gives a sheepish smile. You shake your head and keep going.
You open the door to the basement and the cool air sweeps around your descent. You put the outfit on the folding table beside the camping cot. Your first few nights have been less than comfortable. As cozy as your own marriage.
You check the dryer and take out the towels, folding them on the top and stacking them there. You hear footsteps on the stairs. You keep your back to the airy space.
"Hey," Pete says. You're not surprised. He keeps trying to corner you. "So…"
"Busy," you grab a basket and set the towels in it.
"Hm," he stops only a few feet from you, "Simone said you ran into someone. Your boss."
"Yup. Nice guy," you utter dryly.
"I thought Mandy was your boss."
You roll your eyes as you lift the basket and turn, "one of many. She's up in York now."
"Ah…" he hangs his head, gripping one hip, "a lot's changed."
"I'm not in the mood to talk so let's not do this."
He huffs and steps into your path. He puts a hand on the basket. He looks you in the face.
"I will be home every day at six–"
"Too late."
"Please, can't I just try? Can't you?"
"Me? I tried, Pete," you snap, "come home at six anyway. The kids will be happy."
"What about you?"
You stare at him grimly. Your eyes tingle and you look away. Your chest rises and falls.
"I haven't been happy in a long time. Don't think I will be again," you shrug and pull the basket away, striding past him, "I didn't make you happy either, did I?"
He huffs and trails after you as you cross to the stairs. As you go to make your ascent and he grabs your arm and spins you back to him. Before you can react, he snatches the basket from your grip and places it on the stack of rubbermaid bins by the wall.
He puts his hands on your arms and pulls you against him. He leans in and you turn your head, his lips crashing into your cheek. You shove on his chest and growl.
"What are you doing?" You pinch by his ribs.
"Baby, please, let me make it up to you–"
"Don't touch me," you push on him, "get off."
"I love you. I mean it–"
"Stop!" You hit his chest again but he doesn't budge, instead wrapping his arms around you, squeezing the breath out of you. How is he still so strong when you only ever got weaker? "Pete…"
"You can't walk away–"
"You already did," you keep your voice down, mindful of the open door above.
"Let me try. I wanna make love to you–"
"Pfft, yeah right. Go get tested and I might even consider letting you hold my hand," you snarl, "get off of me now."
"Wha– I'm clean–"
"Get!" You bring your knee up and feel it collide with his crotch. He releases you and staggers back, cupping his most precious possession. "You're a dirty fucking weasel."
You turn and pick up the basket and stomp up the stairs as you hear him whimpering. Serves him right. You can't help but smile at the ounce of power you feel in that moment.
🗄️
Monday morning both too quickly but not fast enough. You get up with the kids and get them ready for school, filling a thermos of coffee for yourself. You drive them to school and send them off with dread in your chest.
For a moment, you idle outside the school. You miss the days when you only worried about spelling quizzes and dodgeball. You hope at least your kids never end up where you are.
You follow the crawl of traffic out of the school zone and reluctantly steer towards work. You yawn and drain half your thermos before you get to the office. As you shoulder your bag and look up at the corporate facade, you feel the world threaten to crumble around you. No, not the whole world, just yours.
You enter behind a few others and try to find your courage in the elevator. You peek over at your coworkers; you recognise two but the other you don't know. There's not much workplace camaraderie, more of an understanding to get your work down and clock out.
You follow them out and go to your desk. You sit and pop the lid off of your thermos. Just enough to get you through this. You don't unpack your lunch, certain you won't be eating it there.
You turn on your PC and sign in. You're in no hurry to get started on work. Your calendar pops up with the internal schedule reminder. There it is, a meeting in ten minutes. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
You get up and go to the bathroom. You can do this. You dealt with your scoundrel husband, you are still moving, you're not dead in the water.
But how do you survive this? Do you beg? You quit and take the loss? No you can't. You need this job and if you get fired, at least you'll have a hope at severance.
You avoid your reflection. That old woman isn't you. You go out and check your watch, pausing as the shine of your rings gleam in the fluorescent light. You slide them off and put them in your back pocket.
You check the schedule one last time and go to tbe meeting room. There's no one there as you find the door shut. It's clearly empty on the other side of the windowed walls. You lean against the plaster and tap your sole.
"Ah, there she is. How's it goin', toots? You need some chamomile? The chairs sure are comfy, aren't they?" Mr. Hansen struts down with his hands in his pockets.
"Sir," you greet flatly. He's mocking you. Jokes on him, you're always tired.
"Come on," he twists the handle and swings the door open so that it bounces on the hinges, "get moving."
You don't react to his crass tone. You merely step into the room as the light flicks on as the censor picks up your movement. You walk along one side of the table as Hansen shuts the door.
You hover behind a chair as he goes along the wall and tugs each cord to repel the blinds down, blocking out the hallway. Uneasiness bubbles in your stomach as you watch him. You expected him to make your humiliation public.
"Have a seat, honey buns," he faces you, approaching the other side of the table.
You sit and fold your hands on the table top. He has no paperwork, not even a computer. You wonder what exactly is going on.
"Is someone from HR–"
"Look, let's keep the sticklers outta this," he waves you off, kick one foot out as he shifts his weight to one hip, "unless you really want a disciplinary slip. Me, personally, I can't be fucked with that paperwork."
You frown and flatten your hands on the table, trying to keep your anxiety from showing. He looks at the gesture and tilts his head. His cheek dimples and he snorts.
He doesn't comment. Not at first. He paces up and down the table and bites his thumb.
"Alright, let's get to business," he stops at the end, close to the corner, "what are you willing to do to keep this job?"
"Sir?"
"Pretty daughter you got. Probably eats up that paycheck in no time. All those cute shirts and ugh, the growth spurts–"
"Mr. Hansen," you swallow, "please, I don't think my family has anything to do with this."
"They have everything to do with this," he insists, "let's not pretend."
"I'm not– I'm sorry I fell asleep. It won't happen again."
"I gave you an out. All you had to do was put your hands down my pants and you could've napped in the boardroom. No problem. I do it all the time," he snickers, "but no, you're a stubborn little bitch. Makes me wonder what the old man sees in ya. Really, cause a tight ass ain't fun unless you get inside–"
"Mr. Hansen," you exclaim, revolted by his lewd words.
"Whatever he's doing, he's not doing it right. You need to loosen up, toots," he runs his thumb across his mustache, "and that little girl won't be so proud of mommy if she ends up working at Burger King like some stoner teenager–"
You sputter, heat creeping up the nape of your neck and speckling down your body. You shake your head. Did he know or is it a lucky guess? Either way, you don't have the energy for this. You're done being a joke for men.
"Just spit it out. What do I have to do?" You sneer as your hands ball.
His lips slant and he smothers a noise in his throat. He slowly walks closet until he's right beside you. You turn the chair to face him as he leans down and puts his hand on yours. He unfolds your fingers and feels along the indents left by your rings.
"Looks like trouble in paradise," he winks, "well, I'm the good kinda trouble. Trust me."
You stare at him. You're not as naive as you once were. There's no denial here. This is real life, a bitter pill you need to swallow.
"That's it? A hand job and I keep my job?" You squint.
He laughs and cups your chin, "oh, you think that's it?"
You can't help but let your surprise bleed through. Your not some young hot thing. Is he just trying to rub salt in the wound or is he serious?
"I…"
"Hand, mouth, cunt, ass, tits," he pulls away as he lists of each word, "you look in tact for the most part. But most importantly…" he shoots you with a finger gun, "you're desperate. What more could I ask for?"

Unsung Hero [TP!Link + Veterinarian!Reader]
The care and management of domestic animals is not new to Hyrule, but your kind of practice is.
The indulgence is growing out of control. The other piece for the results of this Poll.
Masterlist
Companion piece:
Fall Birds [BOTW!Link + Reader]
TW: None.
Disclaimer: Don't own The Legend of Zelda franchise.
---
Seven little fluff balls wait contently within their holding pens, five young females, one adult and a male not even old enough to have a tween's characteristic lank. Three have taken a liking to the soft rags and old shirts you've crafted into makeshift beds, two still picking cautiously at their food bowls, one is grooming with quiet concentration. The kitten is up against the bars, meowing loudly for your attention.
These cats have been well taken care of. They are not afraid of people, many of them want to be picked up. None of them have any issues accepting the food you've given them, they all having been pawing at their enclosures expectantly the moment you'd passed through the doors with food in your hands.
This is a good village. You can tell, for there is no greater indication of a community's character then how they treat thier animals. Creatures whom often rely upon their human caretakers to provide basic needs. Truly, the most vulnerable in any civilized society, safeguarded not by the reigns of biology or sacred law, but by will of the people who keep them.
You smile as you approach, and no less then three of the younger females join the male up against the bars. You are forced to dodge little paws as you crack the doors open just enough to reach in and switch out thier water bowls. Though you give into temptation once or twice and capture their little paws between your fingers, squeezing softly against their smooth beans.
It is harder than you'd like to admit to pull away from them, especially when they are just as eager for attention as you are to give it. But you have work to do, and unfortunately, they only partially involve playing with little beans.
So you eventually leave the room, old water bowls in hand and steadfastly ignoring the pitiful little meows chasing after you. Sometimes you have to play the villain, but that's just an unavoidable consequence of the profession you lead.
And so, unfortunately, is this.
"May I help you." You ask pleasantly enough, irked that this unknown man (hyrulian?) had entered the back of your workplace uninvited, but not really surprised either.
Hyrule and the lands surrounding it is, strange, as far as privacy and security is concerned. No door is truly locked unless it's physically barred, by the locals reckoning. No shop guards their precious stock with carefully maintained distance, no home sacred to the eyes or ears of their community.
Even thievery is taken in stride, rarely punished but for the occasional snide remark or displeased glower. Occasionally, the victimized shop owner may strike at the thief, maybe lecture them, and by the eyes of social justice this seems to make right the wrong.
So, no. You are not surprised. Nor are you surprised by the untrusting tension corded through this man's body.
This is to be expected, or more precisely, this should be expected. And rather than make you feel unnerved or frightened, you are gladdened by this man's formidable presence.
You are happy, because someone cares enough about these animals to ask you what you're doing with them. Cares enough to notice their absence. Cares enough to confront potential abusers with righteous fury, because you can see that in his eyes. That unrelenting need to protect burning in this man's gaze, waiting for a reason to unfurl like Hellfire.
"Why are you taking the cats." He says simply, so honest and to the point. Your heart is gladdened further, because finally, someone who's not going to meekly dance around the issue to avoid offense.
Let them be damned offended. Priority is the wellbeing of the animals. It always has been, and if you're going to dig into other people's business, you best be prepared to get in their face too.
You smile at him, and he seems taken aback by it. "I'm a veterinarian from overseas, specializing in spading and neutering small mammals."
He blinks, long lashes framing wide blue eyes now brimming with cautious curiosity. "A veterinarian?"
You grin, taking the opportunity. You always take the opportunity to educate people. It's just as, if not even more important, than what you actually do.
And so, you talk. You speak of eventual overpopulation, of a single female cat's extensive breeding potential. Of bird populations decimated, of entire litters lost to the dangers of the wilds and the inevitability of disease and death. Of the benefits of fixing felines young, of the health hazards avoided and the behavior issues soothed.
All the while, his eyes get wider and rounder and softer. His world opens up, the light of newfound knowledge enters his inquisitive gaze. At some point he sat, ushering you to sit too. He leans forward as you talk, riveted, asking questions when you begin to slow. Spurring you onwards one breath at a time.
Minutes turn to hours, hours become a promise extracted from the man himself. A promise that you would continue to explain to him the purpose and riggers of your little known profession.
You'd agreed readily. Heart fluttering with the quiet hope of like-minded companionship.
He returns the next day. And the next.
All seven of the cats are fixed by that time, safe and recovering in their pens. And the man, Link, is there for two of their operations. Witness to your practice.
He is enthralled by the precision of your blades, the skill of your hands. Not once does he shy away from the unsavory sight such a profession entails, asking questions only after you've placed the last stitches into shave-short fur. His eyes burning with the need to know and to learn.
You give him everything you have. Every scrap of knowledge and wisdom accumulated after years of education and trials. You share it freely, anything within your power to give is his should he ask.
And he- replies in kind.
Time, effort, rupees. You'd tried to deny, but he could not be moved. The fire in his spirit burning too hot, too intense for you to have any hope of outlasting it's blaze.
He brings in more stray cats, dogs, squirrels (?) than you have holding pens, children trailing behind him with proud expressions of excitement and pride. You give them candy for their efforts, they give you hugs and little scraps of cloth for more beds.
He hands you rupees, brows fixed in stubborn defiance, unwilling to back down from his contributions. There's more than you've ever seen in one place, more than a year's worth. It's too much, but the gleam in his eyes tells of a man who will burden you with untold excess should you refuse his first offer.
The threat is nearly tangible in it's closeness. Take the damned rupees, or prepare to drown in them.
Collars appear like magic overnight upon a precious few cats and dogs, bands of every color staking a bold claim. You leave those ones be, waiting for the loving hands of owners to bring them to you.
Your clinic grows, your place within the community settles. Your new friend becomes your best friend and your most trusted confidant.
Link buys a goat ranch (the one he's been working on for years now), beaming with pride as he tells you how he finally convinced Old man Fado to pass over ownership to him. You congratulate him of course, overcome with pride for his persistence and success.
Your not surprised though. While many might have questioned his hesitance to settle, those who knew him well saw this coming years ago. It was only ever a matter of when the man would pluck up the resolve to fully commit.
The long wait had not been wasted though. A stack of worn books, old and new, sitting prominently at your bedside spoke quietly of that.
"Hey, Link. Now that you're a respectable ranch owner, want to go into business together?" You smile, eyes crinkled at the corners as he caught your gaze in (unnecessarily) hopeful disbelief. "I've been doing a bit of light reading on the biology of ordon goats, after all."
You held out your hand to him, and he gripped it back fiercely, a suspicious shimmer at his lower lashes as a bright smile stole across his lips.
"Might as well not let the knowledge go to waste. Right?"

Woven Serpents (Part 3): Namor x Mutant!Reader
synopsis: Accept the offer, or don't? You'll have to make a choice sooner than expected with the serpent god snapping at your heels.
wc: 703
tw: none, some fluff
previous part 🌊 next part
"You've avoided me long enough," the feather-footed god shouts as he storms into the cave. Your fingers cradle the fruit you'd been given, but thick fingers instantly pry the food from your hands. "You eat and sleep for weeks, but don't think about the gift I've given you!" You meet the god's eyes with your own, frowning deeply.
"The man said I was not a slave," you echo. "The one who came to get me."
"Attuma knows nothing of--" The god pauses, pressing his fingers to his nose before exhaling.
"And I was eating that," you murmur, pointing to the fruit deposited onto the ground.
The Great K'ul'ulkan looks at the fruit, then back at you, nodding. "My apologies. I will make it up to you. Come with me."
You stand from the hammock, looking at the god carefully. "You have fooled me twice," you breathe, sneering at him. "You will not fool me again."
"I have gotten what I wanted," the god laughs, turning to face you. "Even if I fool you a third time, will you not be in the same predicament as before?"
Tumblr media
"I do not think this is a wise idea," you moan, slipping into the large suit with clumsy steps.
"Trust me," the god replies, handing you the helmet for your head. "It is either this or suffering."
"I can heal myself," you remind him, holding the helmet in your hands.
"You have never drowned, have you?" The question stuns you, so you don't answer. The diety takes the helmet from your hands and places it on your head, watching you through the glass. "You will be safe in this." He leads you into the water, and as you're submerged, everything in you braces for impact. But instead, you're sucked in, pulled toward someplace you don't know and don't want to know.
"Is this another trick?" you shout over the rushing water around you. The god-man looks at you, his eyes coming to life as you raise your pitch and flail about.
"You look better alarmed," he cackles, watching you unmoored. "It makes you look like a kid."
You curse at him through your teeth as the stream ejects you, then meet him at the top of what seems to be a high cliff. "Come," he beckons you with a single arm extended. "See Talokan."
You take his hand - for your sake, not his - and venture into the aquatic underworld. You're taken aback as you pass by citizens, plants, animals, and even a few friendly smiles. You try to mask the shock from the diety beside you, but he immediately catches onto your stunned silence.
"That is not the best part," he resumes, pointing toward a looming archway. As if by his command, the archway presents a light source filled with blue radiance, showering its supposed warmth on the people around the city. "It is like the sun has come to Talokan."
You watch the god's eyes brighten with every second of the secondary sun's luminosity. You cannot deny its beauty nor its purpose, and a part of you relishes the sight. "Do you now see the reason I have brought you here?"
"I..." Faces and smiles greet you again, and you raise your hand in response. "I see your people are happy and well cared for."
"And even more so with you here. There is sickness down here, old age... with your help, my people can be whole. They won't have to lose their loved ones suddenly. You will be there to heal and be healed."
"How?" you whisper, and the god-man smiles widely.
"Through the people who will love you." You inhale deeply, but the god reaches out his hand to touch your helmet as if he could touch the skin of your cheek. "Let us show you that we care for people like you. Unlike the surface dwellers who strip those of us who are gifted and beat us without mercy."
You think about it, noting his correctness without malice. Then you raise your head, clearing your throat.
"When do I start?" The father-serpent god smiles.
"Right now, if you are ready." You nod, taking his hand once more.
"I'm ready."

(Y/N) felt like she was ready to rip her hair out. Ava, her three year old daughter, would not listen for anything today, and she felt like she was at the end of her rope. She'd only turned there four months ago, how could the 'terrible threes' settle in that fast?
Everything was a fight today. Getting her out of bed, picking out her outfit, giving her breakfast, and the list continued from there. She wanted to challenge every and anything that (Y/N) was saying.
The day dragged on because of this. (Y/N) felt like she was ready to crash the second the sun started to set. And she didn't even attempt to do a reading lesson with Ava today...that's just what kind of day it was. She didn't even want to think of how much more exhausted she'd be had she given that a try.
But now it was time for the toughest part of the day: getting Ava to bed. (Y/N) was dreading it from the second she woke her daughter up because she knew that it'd be a much more challenging task today with the mood that Ava was in.
Despite her hoping that the day would just fast forward through the hard part, bedtime came. Ava was coloring in the front sitting room (at peace for once) when (Y/N) entered from the kitchen. She almost wanted to let her be...she finally was doing what she was supposed to. But (Y/N) knew that she had to get her to go to bed.
So she approached her cautiously, wanting to smack herself for treating her three year old child like she was some wild animal. "Ava, sweetie..." she started, trying to get her daughter's attention. The girl dropped her utensil and turned around, looking at her mother with expecting eyes. (Y/N) smiled at her before she continued, "it's time for us to get ready for bed."
A sour look formed on Ava's face the second the 'b word' was mentioned. "Mumma, no," she huffed, her eyebrows scrunching together to show her anger at the situation.
(Y/N) raised her eyebrows in response to the pushback. "This is not a matter that is up for discussion, missy. It is your bedtime," she insisted, her hands falling onto her hips.
"I'm not tired!" Ava exclaimed, sticking her nose in the air and squeezing her eyes shut as she spoke. It was obvious that she wasn't going to back down without a fight.
After taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly so that she could stay composed, (Y/N) attempted another route of persuasion, "if we go to bed now, we can read two stories together." She thought that Ava might go for that suggestion because she <loved> to read stories.
But of course Ava wasn't going for any of (Y/N)'s suggestions today. "NO!" she screamed, her voice even louder now than before, "I don't wanna read stories, I wanna keep drawing!"
(Y/N) opened her mouth to speak but couldn't get a word out because the door to the house opened and shut and footsteps sounded off the hardwood shortly after.
"Arfer!" Ava exclaimed, hopping up from her spot by the coffee table to run past her mother to the archway. Usually (Y/N) would smile at her daughter's pronunciation of her partner's name, but she'd been worn down so much tonight that she couldn't muster it up.
(Y/N) turned around in time to see Arthur crouching down to give the little girl a hug. "Hey, kiddo," he greeted her, glancing up at (Y/N) to see the unhappy expression she had. He immediately knew that he couldn't go over the top in greeting the child in his arms. Things didn’t seem to be going so well. "What's goin’ on here, eh?" he asked after he ended their hug.
"I'm drawing a picture; just like you showed me how to! Come, look!" she exclaimed, a wide smile on her face as she reached up to take hold of his hand so that she could lead him over to the table she had everything set up on.
"We were getting ready to do something else, weren't we, Ava?" (Y/N) asked the child before she could get into showing Arthur her artwork.
"Mumma!" Ava exclaimed, a pout forming on her face as she slipped right back into the defiant act she was putting on before.
"Ava," (Y/N) raised her eyebrows, her voice monotone. She did not want to go back into this cycle of arguing that they'd been going in and out of all day.
Ava held the glare on her mother for a moment longer before she switched it up to a pout to show to Arthur. She was hoping that he'd be on her side in this; he always had a soft spot for her and she knew it...she often played off of it. "Can you draw with me, Arfer?" she asked him, puppy dog eyes in full display.
Arthur glanced over at (Y/N) then, silently checking if she was going to jump in and diffuse this or if he was going to be the one to mediate the situation. Her exasperated look told him everything: she needed his help. "I'd love to draw with you, kiddo, but it's your bedtime. We don't wanna go against your mum, do we?" he posed a question, crouching down to her level as he spoke.
Ava looked at Arthur for a moment before looking at her mother. (Y/N) kept her lips pursed, secretly hoping that Arthur's attempt would do the trick. She didn't think she had anymore gas left in the tank to deal with a defiant three year old.
A frown formed on the little girl's face as she realized that the situation was not going to go in her favor. She now needed to accept that it was in fact bedtime. "No, we should listen to mumma," she admitted in a defeated tone, slumping her shoulders.
"That's a good choice," Arthur agreed with what Ava said, a smile forming on his face.
"Can you read me a story, Arfer?" she asked him, a hopeful look on her face. (Y/N) was about ready to scoff at it because she was claiming that she didn't want to read stories just moments ago.
"Sure, kiddo," he nodded before continuing, "why don't you go up and let your mum get you changed and then I'll be up to read with you?" he suggested, his eyebrows raised.
"Ok!" Ava promptly agreed, a smile on her face as she bounced over to (Y/N)'s side. (Y/N) sent her a soft smile and began to walk to the steps with her. She stopped before they were able to ascend the steps, "can we read the one about the princess and the dragon?" she excitedly asked Arthur.
"Sure we can," Arthur nodded, sending a smile to (Y/N) then, who now had a relieved look on her face.
Ava made a little sound of glee before she turned and began walking up the steps with (Y/N) following close behind.
Ava was adamant that she only wanted Arthur to read the story to her, so (Y/N) happily stepped out of the little girl's bedroom once she was finished helping her get ready for bed. She decided to go downstairs and work on cleaning up the living room so that it would look orderly again. Once she was finished, she sat down on the couch and tipped her head back onto the cushion.
She heard Arthur's footsteps descending the stairs not long after she got comfy. "Long day?" he asked her, making her raise her head to see his crooked smile.
"Precisely," she answered, a tired smile forming on her face as he came over to the couch. She sat up and scooted over so that he could sit next to her. "Are you staying tonight?" she asked him once he was situated.
"You want me to?" Arthur raised his eyebrows as he looked over at her. It was her house after all, and even though they'd been together for just about two years now, he still didn't want it to seem like he was overstaying his welcome.
"Of course," she smiled at him, scooting over on the couch so that she could hug him. He responded to her embrace by squeezing the shoulder of the arm that she'd draped over his torso before turning his head to the side and kissing her temple. (Y/N) relaxed against his body, finally able to take a moment to herself without worrying about what Ava might need or be doing.
She was lucky to have Arthur in her life. They met just over two and a half years ago. (Y/N) was coming out from the church she belonged to and Arthur was finding his way in. She thought it was odd for him to be entering it, especially after the service had just ended. So she followed him back in and stuck around, watching from a few pews back as he slumped down on the bench and just stared at the altar. After letting him be for some time, she just had to go up and see if he was alright.
She was a kind-hearted person, and Arthur quickly realized that. He found it easy to convey his muddied thoughts to her, and she found it easy to see the man underneath all of the things he'd done. It wasn't a surprise to either of them when they found that they couldn't get the other off their mind. Arthur asked her to dinner after one of their conversations, and the rest was history.
Arthur loved (Y/N)'s daughter, Ava, as if she were his own daughter. She wasn't though. Her father, (Y/N)'s husband, died in a terrible accident only a few months after Ava was born. It hurt (Y/N)'s heart to know that Ava wouldn't be able to meet her father, but she was thankful that she now had Arthur in her life. They took to each other right away. (Y/N) won't ever forget the fact that one of Ava's first smiles came when she was in Arthur's arms. It's no secret that they've got a sweet spot for each other. Oftentimes, like this night, she didn't know what she'd do without him.
"I think I'm going to make myself some tea to have before bed," (Y/N) stated, breaking the silence as she finally let go of Arthur so that she could stand from the couch. "Do you want anything?" she turned to ask him.
"I'm fine, love. Thank you," Arthur responded, a smile gracing his lips as he looked up at her. She nodded before turning and walking to the kitchen area. "Was she defiant all day?" Arthur asked as she went about putting the kettle of water on the stove.
"Pretty much," (Y/N) responded, going about getting herself a cup, "everything was a challenge...she wanted nothing to do with what I was saying to her," she sighed, shaking her head. It was days like today where she felt like she was failing at the whole mother thing.
Silence fell in the room as she waited for the water to boil. It did after a short while, and she carefully poured it into her cup so that she could mix the tea in with it. "I'd probably still be fighting with her had you not come in," she commented with a slight scoff as she moved the kettle off of the stove and grabbed her cup.
She then turned and began walking back to the couch. When she looked up, she saw Arthur sitting with his arms draped over the back of the couch; looking at her with a closed-mouth smile on his face. "What?" she asked him, smiling as she felt warmth spread through her body under his gaze.
"Nothin'," he answered her, shaking his head slightly as his smile widened.
She knew better than that though. "You're thinking of something, Arthur...what is it?" she called him out, her one eyebrow raised as she stopped a few feet from the couch. She wasn't going to sit until she found out what was on his mind. It was silly, and she knew that, but she was stubborn in that sense...no wonder Ava was the way she was sometimes.
Arthur chuckled at her statement, finding her defiance rather adorable. He looked her over before his smile returned. "We make a pretty good team, don't you think?" he asked her then, tipping his head to the side slightly.
The warmth inside of her grew when she heard his question, and she couldn't stop the butterflies from doing their happy dance in her stomach. She didn't expect him to say something along these lines. But she knew the answer in an instant. "We do," she agreed with him before she walked the rest of the way to the couch he was on. She carefully sat down so as to not spill the tea she had. Once she was comfortable, she turned and smiled over at Arthur. "We definitely make a good team," she repeated her sentiment, a smile on her face as Arthur leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to her lips.
"Wouldn't wanna be on a team with anyone else, love," he grinned at her, and in that moment all of the stresses that had been built up within her over the day faded away.

CREEPYPASTA - Headcanons
Tumblr media
~ Hello hello everyone! I hope you are well. This is Mannuh, I felt like writing... Why not?
~ Spooky hedcanons, I'll do the ones I know the most about and I'll update later!
-Nina -L.J -Jeff -Masky
-Toby -E.J -Jane -Hoodie
-Liu -Sally -BEN -Kate
~ I really hope everything is OK! Since I'm new to Tumblr, I don't really know how the question box and stuff like that works, so we'll be without it for a while! :) Well, I'll leave you with 1 headcanon of each character ^^
Tumblr media
JEFF THE KILLER
~ He has a bad habit of facial hygiene, his injuries, especially the cut in his mouth, are infected, he no longer feels the pain he used to, so repeating it is not a problem! But he never cleans, after all he does not feel the need to. The more "nice" the more afraid his victim is, which will make him proud as always
Tumblr media
NINA THE KILLER
~ Nina is a 100% independent person. She has learned to develop her skills and doesn't have as much contact with Jeff anymore. Over time, she has given up the obsession with him and developed self-love. She still likes it when people try to focus more on themselves! It's worth noting that Nina has very good aim and is constantly training to surpass Jeff.
Tumblr media
SALLY
~ She looks like a child, but she isn't! She may act like one, talk like one, but it doesn't change the fact that she would be around 60 years old currently. She is very polite and kind, she doesn't trust men but makes exceptions for Toby, LJ, Liu, Masky etc. Women she tends to be liberal, talkative when she wants! Even so, she is a spirit she can do whatever she wants with her body, her victims are very afraid of her in a certain way, even though she almost doesn't kill them, only if necessary! (She would probably have a very feminist side, but she doesn't act like one, she just thinks)
Tumblr media
"TICCI" TOBY / TOBY ROGERS
~ Toby, he's a very reserved guy with certain people but he's very lively with those he meets, but that doesn't remove the fact that he can be serious, brutal or even sadistic! He has his interests, goals and objectives and always tries to fulfill them without being interrupted. He doesn't like Slender/Operator, not like before he realized that one time or another he will die and clearly his boss won't do anything just look a replacement. Apart from that, he can act anywhere from a 28-year-old man to a 19-year-old muleke who has just entered puberty, this man can have problems but he is extremely polite (with whoever he wants), respectful, and reserved and can have moments that he reveals something of his rarest trait
Tumblr media
EYELESS JACK
~ EJ, a cannibalistic man who is extremely serious and well-behaved. A demon that walks on 2 or 4 legs depends on its state, it is not a guy of many words but it maintains relationships with other Creepys or Proxies. He is someone with experience about the human body, so he knows everything! He doesn't just eat kidneys, but his preference in food is clearly human or animal organs on certain occasions, in my opinion EJ always has something saved in case of need, he probably knows when to attack his victims, maybe you don't have 1 kidney and you don't know .. He is stealthy when he is in an angrier form he becomes more animalistic, bizarre and terrifying and scares anyone, but when he is calm and in his own person he becomes like a normal person! but it's not
Tumblr media
BEN DROWNED
~ This guy is a professional hacker, if you want something that involves the Internet he can do it effortlessly, this includes, Hacking people, Stalking, Searching, He can change very advanced settings, disabling websites and things like that! I wouldn't want to pick a fight with him! He is not afraid of water, he just has certain traumas, but now (perhaps) overcome, he can range from playful to extremely violent, making his victim die through a screen! He is a spirit, don't expect something physically but expect discord in your life, leaked data, bizarre messages, photos, etc.
Tumblr media
☠People, I'm going to do the sequel soon, because I don't want to write much, you know? Maybe I can think about writing history and things like that in the future, even though I don't have the best writing skills in the world! I can try, what do you think? :^

my opinion on natla (for those of you who care lol)
spoilers ahead.
dislikes:
where is katara's fire??? they took it mostly away except for the (obligated imo) fight with pakku. like i understand that yall changed the story of her losing her mother so that she's more timid and insecure now but that was one of her main core traits. she has a passion and is reckless and sassy, and is a leader who inspires words of motivation to other benders. she is not afraid to sacrifice her life for the care and safety of others. this remake just... does not show that
pakku is no longer katara's grandmother's ex/grandfather, and did not show any plans to go to the southern tribe to help them rebuild, which i genuinely liked from the animation bc it showed that the water tribes are reuniting instead of still being separated btw the north and south (it might come later but there was no indication that it was in the works). he also does not teach katara waterbending. he just validated that she was a good waterbender and sent some kids her way to lead during the fire nation attack
aang does not have a crush on katara. it was one of the main factors that drove his character into a more goofy, relatable, and just overall likeable kid; because he is just that, a 12 year old kid. in the adaptation he is too serious, and the mutual admiration that he and katara were supposed to have of one another is more one-sided. in natla they made it seem as if... aang is a much older person trapped in a 12 year old's body dropping odd wizened quotes from Gyatso left and right about how to be the avatar and to look to the future and stuff like that, but not actually taking them into account and growing?? if that makes sense. like the show kind of took away his gradual acceptance of being the avatar and having the responsibility, through his simple coming of age moments like having a major crush on katara
the first season is completely centered around aang's guilt. he does not learn any waterbending or attempt at firebending (and being scared of it). i assume katara is going to teach him in season 2 but they could have squeezed some kind of training in between the eight episodes?
mai and ty lee are just standing there. like i'm not kidding. they don't do much but give azula an audience in her training sessions and rants about being the rightful heir. i did love ty lee's encouragement though, it was cute
but adding on to that azula does not have that... fear factor. she does not have her friends scared of her, or the fire nation people under her control/influence. at least not yet
sokka and katara enters the spirit world with aang? that was a bit confusing. i understand that the directors/writers need to speed things up a little and need to provide some backstory to sokka and katara, but they are not supposed/be able to go to the spirit world with aang. it threw me off guard
bumi confused the heck out of me. they did not have him reveal his identity at the end so the games and challenge that he had aang do in the animation was given to him in the "catch-up" (basically) of his time in the war with aang. he just seemed kind of (more so than expected) all over the place for me...
roku did not tell aang about the comet. they talked about koh and how to save sokka and katara from being forever taken by koh instead (they were captured when they were in the spirit world). i assume aang will find out about this later? but from what i wonder...
sokka is a bit too serious for me as well... i adored him for coming a long way from the sexist beliefs that he held at the beginning of book 1 in the animation, but that was basically erased in the adaptation, sooo. and i completely understand that what he experienced as a child in this adaptation should've shaped him into a more serious character but dang. it's kinda to the point were his jokes are kinda cringy
his apparent obsession with suki (which was SO cute) but then chasing after other girls immediately afterwards? yes this was portrayed in the animation and i completely expected him to be flirty and whatnot (he's my flirty sarcastic hungry boi), but why have him stare wistfully and longingly at the fan that suki gave him when he is just going to turn around and chase after random fire nation girls (the one that got them running in like ep 3)? it doesn't make sense (and kind of makes sokka seem like an asshole). the creators should not push sukka so quick and fast and hard and then 180 sokka into a playboy. pick a side pleaseee *cries* (sukka was not pushed as hard in kyoshi island in the animation so i was okay with sokka being as flirty as he was)
the kind of arguments that sokka and katara have are kind of patronizing and demeaning. it's more of a "you're such a little girl and need to grow the f up" kinda feeling instead of a "im your big bro and am trying to protect you" kinda feeling
appa does not fight at all :(( . he's just the ride. sometimes forgotten in the background
likes:
excuse me but the azula hair flip?? in her introduction?? amazing.
ty lee is so perfectly casted it's like her animation popped out into real life. the hair and clothes UGH
i cried in the zuko and iroh moments and flashbacks to their relationship/iroh's loss/zuko's burn. CRIED. it was so emotional and well done
again, zuko and iroh's relationship is so strong in this adaptation you don't even knowww. iroh has like zero bad bones in his body from the get-go it's kinda amusing T-T
THE ZUTARA SCARF SCENE
all the cast look like their characters to me. even if their core traits/personalities are changed
jet and suki. that's all i have to say
sukka kiss and initial awkwardness. i cackled when suki went *sad face* when she thought she scared sokka away
OMASHU IS BASED ON A LESBIAN COUPLE
ozai is as evil and bad and merciless as ever. also manipulative. i can get where azula gets it from
it further explains/shows the "my father trained me into the weapon he wanted me to be" for azula
june and iroh. it changed from the creepy one-sidedness in the animation lol and june gave a talk about her way of life
the graphics for the bending are so cool. zuko's fire kicks *mesmerized*
fire nation burning of people. shows really how antagonistic ozai's peeps are
freedom fighters!!
the tiny soft moment between zuko and aang when zee blue spirit saves him :DD
hating zhao as he should be hated because he's as cowardly and stupid as ever
the 41st division!! cried at that nice touch
the way zuko actually fought back and showed compassion for his father in the agni kai and how his father basically forced him to be the way he is (all angsty and conflicted and whatnot) because "compassion is weakness and here is the scar i manually burn into your face to prove you)
overall if you love zuko this is your show because other characters may have faults but they killed it with my traumatized dude with the lil scar! and his uncle!! which he is already and always super nice to!!

[The Monster Hunter]
Plot: Another draft from my abandoned long fic. It takes place right before [The Bite Scene]. Basically, it's the encounter between Astarion and Gandrel rewritten to feature my Tav, Winnie. Just thought I'd share it.
C/w: Death, dead animal, Astarion being a bigot, Astarion being a manipulative little shit, dialogue straight outta the game. A wee bit of blood.
Tumblr media
Truth be told it was hard to remember how any of this happened. One moment Winnie was on the streets of Baldur's Gate searching for her friend Arva after she and the other members of their gang had gone missing and the next  the human was kidnapped by tentacle faced freaks, and infected with a brain worm before crashing from the sky in an alien spaceship. It's been a complete and utter nightmare and the only saving grace would be the fact that She'd been able to make some allies in the process.
"Dead pig. Yep that pig is dead." Winnie called out, her fuchsia colored eyes scanning over an oddly well intact corpse of a boar.  "Weird….I don't see any wounds." Cautiously she poked it with her foot.
"Well, do you expect it to come back to life if you poke it enough?" Winnie’s elven companion Astarion, rolled his eyes, "just leave it. You're wasting our time prodding at a carcass."
The human female sighed, but just as she was about to walk off two small puncture wounds in the boar's neck caught her attention. The first rational assumption that came to mind was that perhaps a snake had bitten into the pig and poisoned it. But surely there would have been a trace of blood left by bite, wouldn't there?
"Darling, let's go. The brain worms aren't going to wait patiently for you to gawk at every corpse we pass." The elf huffed.
Deciding it was probably just best to move on, Winnie nodded and followed. Whatever happened to this pig was probably not important for them to worry about, surely. Continuing on, Winnie and her companions wandered off into a nearby forest as they searched for the creche that their gith friend Lae'zel kept insisting they find.
Winnie trudges through the mud, blowing brown curls out of her eyes before suddenly feeling a sharp sting in the side of her face.
"Ah! Godsdamn mosquitoes!" She cursed, slapping her cheek before swatting around, frantically. "Why the hells do they keep biting me!?"
"Looks like they have a taste for you, Winnie." Shadowheart teased.
"Why me? There are plenty of other people here to bite!"
"And here I thought druids were friends of nature." Gale chimed in.
"I'm friends with nature….Until it starts biting me in the ass." Winnie muttered.
"You must be quite the delicacy, given the swarm you're attracting…" Astarion smirked slightly, his eyes lingered upon the druid longer than he normally did. Winnie assumed he was enjoying her suffering. (The sadistic little shit.) Though she completely missed the hungry look in his eyes and just groaned in response, unable to resist scratching the irritated skin. Before anything else could be said there was a shouting off in the distance.
"Tell us where she is!" The voice of a man was heard.
"I told you both already I haven't laid eyes on your sister!" Winnie’s eyes blinked as she'd heard a familiar voice. It was an old woman they'd met in the Druid's Grove. She'd told Astarion and Winnie that she might be able to help with their tadpole problem.  Winnie wasn't exactly sure if the old gal would actually be able to help them or if she was just demented like Astarion said. They hadn't promised anything when she invited the adventurers to visit her home, but Winnie did say they might stop by if given the chance.  However, now things may be a little difficult.
The old woman appeared to be cornered down the hill. Two men had a pitchfork and torch and appeared to be harassing her. As quickly as she could the druid intercepted the scene.
"What's going on here?" Winnie asked in a stern tone, preparing to grab her staff if need be.
"Thank goodness you came sweetie! I have no idea what's come over these boys!"
"Shut it hag! We know you were the last to see Mayrina! Now where is she!?" One of the men growled.
"I already told ya, I haven't laid eyes on your poor sister. I will gladly help you look for her though." Ethel insisted.
"Enough! Tell us where she is right now!" The older of the two brothers raised his weapon up.
"Okay let's not do anything we'll regret. Leave the lady alone." Winnie stepped in, shooting a glare at the two men. She put her hand on her staff, gripping it tight.
“Sweetie be careful!” Auntie Ethel shouted.
“She's with the hag! Get her!” Without another word the two men attacked. Winnie quickly used her staff to block an incoming pitchfork, knocking it out of the way and then quickly smacking both of the brothers in the head. The two dropped to the ground, unconscious.
“Oh dear, I never meant for this to happen.” Ethel exclaimed looking over at the brothers.
“Can you please explain what is going on?”Winnie asked, eyes scanning the woman up and down. Something was off about her.  Despite her seeming to show guilt and concern for the two men there was something in her tone that sounded off, insincere.
“It's their sister Mayrina, she's staying with me and she made me promise not to breathe a word about it to anyone. Oh, I do hope the poor boys will be alright…” Auntie Ethel said.
“I'm sure they'll be fine…Well….They probably won't die.” Winnie said with a nervous little cough as she looked at the two boys. Gods, she hoped she didn't accidentally kill them. Sure, they had acted like idiots, but it was clear that it was out of concern for their sister.
“Well, I can't dally around any longer, I best be going, but please stop by my house. I'd like to thank you proper.” Ethel had an all too sickeningly sweet smile before suddenly vanishing into a puff of smoke.  A look of shock covered the young druid’s face as she began to think that perhaps Ethel wasn't the sweet innocent old woman she had claimed to be.
“Shit…” She cursed.
“I haven't spent much time around helpless old ladies, but was that normal?” Astarion asked, stepping beside Winnie.
“Ah….Well…My grandmother was able to turn into an owlbear at will…but I feel like this may be something else entirely.” Winnie replied, scratching the back of her head.
“Hag was the word the brothers used to describe her. If they're right, then we may have a very dangerous foe on our hands.” Gale added.
“Usually l’d say we shouldn't jump to conclusions, but this was very suspicious.” Winnie said before looking off towards the wetlands below the hill.
She began to walk down, the others slowly following, Her leather boots sank into the mud as she surveyed the area, spying a few sheep roaming around nearby.  It looked pleasant enough, but something just wasn't right. There was this gut feeling that it was some kind of illusion at work. After a moment Winnie attempted to use some magic to dispel it.
Within seconds the beautiful wetlands turned into a disgusting and dreary looking bog.
“Oh…Well this is just wonderful…”Astarion murmured. Winnie huffed as the group walked off through the bog, ankle deep in mud and gods know what else. Gale kept his robes hiked up and Astarion seemed to be muttering something about his boots. Shadowheart rolled her eyes at the two of them. Venturing further on Winnie  began to notice the sheep from before had vanished and were now replaced by angry looking redcaps. Many of them apparently making…..sheep noises.
“Baaa!” One said as they noticed Winnie starring.
“Uh…..Baaa?” She mimicked it, eliciting a chuckle from both Astarion and Shadowheart. The redcap glared at Winnie before waddling away.
The adventurers kept wandering through the bog, searching around for any sign of Ethel before eventually stumbling upon a disgustingly sweet smell and a man standing up ahead. He had long brown hair, a beard and a scar under one of his eyes. On his back appeared to be a crossbow and a very nice looking one at that.
“Ah stranger, forgive the aroma!” The man says as the sickening odor causes Winnie to grimace slightly.
“It's powdered ironvine. It'll make any monsters think twice before trying to make a meal of me.”
Winnie was about to introduce herself before suddenly Astarion cut in.
“You're a monster hunter? I'm surprised. I thought all Gur were vagrant cutthroats.”
“Don't be rude.” The druid scolded him then glanced back at the hunter apologetically, “forgive him. The elf doesn't know when to stop talking.”
“You should listen to your companion. Next he'll warn you that my people can curse your cow to give only sour milk or seduce your daughter to a life of roaming. I wish I had half the power settled folk think my people possess. Alas I am a simple wanderer.  A simple wanderer and monster hunter. But I'm no witch doctor or cutthroat.”
“And what monster are you hunting exactly?” Winnie inquired.
“Something terrifying no doubt. Dragon? Cyclops? Kobold?” Astarion said, in a mocking tone.
“Nothing so dramatic. I'm hunting a vampire spawn.” The hunter replied.
“A vampire!?” The brunette haired druid’s eyes lit up at the statement. Her lips curled up into a giddy grin. “This sounds exciting! I've never had the opportunity to encounter one before!”
“I’d exercise caution friend, these creatures are not something you'd want to encounter unprepared. Nor are they as charming as the stories make them out to be.”
“Oh, I know they’re dangerous. I'm just very fascinated with monsters is all…” Winnie gave a shy chuckle. She seemed absolutely thrilled at the prospect of meeting a creature of the night. Her elven companion however immediately tensed.
“So, why are you hunting this vampire spawn?” He asked, his voice was laced with curiosity, but his eyes had a look of distress in them.
“You’re asking a monster hunter why he's hunting a monster?” Shadowheart spoke up.
“Why not? All vampires can’t be bad? Can they?” Winnie hummed, her mouth forming a disappointed pout.
“I'm afraid they are. Vampires are godless parasites. There is no reason not to destroy them. But in this case it is a sacred mission from the head of my tribe. My orders are to capture the beast and return it to her.”
“Capture? And bring it where, exactly?” Astarion asked, his eyes seemed trained on the hunter.
“Baldur's Gate. My people wait for me there.” The gur explained.  It was then Winnie noticed Astarion’s tension. His hand inched for the dagger sheathed at his side. A fake smile spread across his face.
“You're asking a lot of questions.” She said, turning her head to look at the elf.
“There's a lot to know.” Astarion giggled, feigning innocence before then approaching the hunter, leaving little room between the two. “I've crossed paths with your people before you know.” Astarion suddenly drew his dagger and before Winnie could even speak he jammed it straight through the monster hunter’s eye. “It wasn't a good experience.” He growled
“Astarion, what the hells!?” Shadowheart shouted.
“Was that really necessary!?” Gale called from behind them.
“Please tell me you had a good reason for that.” Winnie asked, looking at Astarion cautiously as he plucked his dagger from the corpse.
“He was spinning a tale and you were falling for it. Vampires? Sacred missions? Pft. Honestly.” Astarion huffed before turning back at me, the hunter’s blood had splattered across his face and was now dripping down the side of his cheek. “He would have followed us to camp and slit our throats in the night. Trust me I did us a favor.”
Winnie glared at him, crossing her arms. This was conflicting. Astarion could be all too stab happy at times, but he had watched her back in several fights since they'd joined up.
“Now if we're done here we have more important things to get on to.”  Astarion said as he began to walk off.  Winnie turned back to the corpse, deciding she may as well make use of his belongings. Not like he'd be using them anymore anyway.  She took his crossbow and some magic arrows he had before following after the others. Gale and Shadowheart appeared to be whispering about whether or not it was wise to keep Astarion in the group after this little incident.
After a while Winnie spoke up, stepping between Astarion and the others.
“You dispatched the monster hunter rather quickly.”
“I know. Wasn't it impressive?” Astarion smirked his eyes looking Winnie over.
“Doesn’t explain why.”
“Don't you worry your pretty little head about why. The gur are duplicitous reprobates. Didn't you see the look he gave you when you mentioned wanting to see a vampire? He was probably going to run you through for it. Claim you were some vampire fanatic. Luckily, you have me to look out for you, you sweet little thing.~” He purred the last few words. Winnie’s cheeks flushed and she mentally cursed. Damn him.  Ever since they'd started traveling she'd found herself very attracted to him. Unfortunately he was able to pick up on it quite easily, and take advantage of the soft spot she had for him.  “He won't bother us anymore. Now I've made sure of it.”

Okay, so.
It's 5:30 pm. As with most Friday nights, I get in my car to drive to a 6 pm Magic the Gathering draft.
It takes a couple of tries to get the car to start. I don't think much of it - the car is about two and a half decades old, and it's had trouble starting before, although not normally this bad. When I start driving, it feels sluggish - I assume it'll function normally soon, but the "soon" keeps not happening.
(I later learn that I really should have taken this more seriously.)
I get onto the main road, and start making my way towards the game store. I start to notice the car being oddly... jittery when it's stopped, particularly the steering wheel. I tell myself, well, hopefully it'll do fine to get me to the MTG event and back, then I can get it looked at over the weekend.
(Horrible idea. Never listen to this instinct.)
On the way, I stop at the red light, then the car has trouble starting back up. I restart the ignition, and it's around this point when I start to smell something funny. Hopefully something from my surroundings, I tell myself.
(Othin, you fucking idiot.)
A bit further, and the smell hasn't gone away. Also, something looks funny. Is that... smoke? Inside the car? Okay, I wasn't imagining it, that's definitely smoke. Emergency procedures, abort mission.
First things first, gotta get off the main road. I take the next turn onto a side road - and it's only two lanes, one in each direction. I go a bit up the road, looking for a proper place to park, and it doesn't take long of failing to do that before I go okay, no, enough waiting, I need to get out of here. The other cars can deal with it.
I park, call my dad, and explain the situation. He says it sounds like I'd had a big oil leak, and if I drove that much without oil, my engine is probably toast. Given how old the car is, that would probably be the death blow to it, although we'd already expected it wouldn't last much longer regardless.
I call Triple A, at 5:49 pm, to request a tow truck. They ask if I'm in a safe location - I interpret the question as being about immediate personal safety and say yes. (I later learn that blocking a two-lane road does not qualify as a safe location. Maybe if I'd said no, things would have gone differently.) It takes a bit of time to figure out how to explain where exactly I am, since I don't know which municipality I stopped in or how best to describe my street location, but after a few minutes they go sure, we'll have someone over there within the next hour, and they'll call when they're on the way.
In the meantime, I call my dad back, for more of his car expertise. He says it should be fine to sit in the car so I'm not out in the cold, I just shouldn't turn it on. It still smells horrible, so on his advice, I lower the windows, and sit there, waiting.
Around 6:30, I haven't heard anything, so I call back to see if there's any updates. The automated message says the expected arrival time is 7:21.
I don't have headphones with me, so I wait until it feels okay to put the windows back up before taking the opportunity to watch anime, and pull up the next episode of Yuyushiki. Meanwhile, my dad texts me, I mention the road, and he goes wait, that's dangerous, you should really wait on the grass by the road instead. I tell him I don't think I'm likely to get hit, but at his insistence, I reluctantly comply, after finishing the episode. Back to shivering as it gets increasingly cold.
Around 7, I call again, and the automated line still says the expected arrival time is 7:21. Around 7:10, there's still no word about the driver leaving, so I call and ask for a live rep. The rep tries to check in with the tow truck, but comes back after several minutes to say that there was no number available for the driver himself, and that he attempted to contact the company they'd contracted for the word directly, but wasn't able to reach them. The rep says the driver is showing me as next on his list, and the only alternative would be restarting the process with a new driver, which would put me further down the list. He suggests waiting at least another half hour before trying anything like that.
I am getting skeptical of these time estimates, and extremely tired of shivering outside. I call my dad and ask him to come, he says sure. He also suggests calling the police to let them know about the road I'm blocking and get their help with keeping other cars from crashing into me, but I say I don't want to do that while I'm alone and wearing a dress. He says he doesn't expect it to be an issue but doesn't push it.
Dad shows up, goes wait, you meant the straight part of the road? I assumed you meant the twisty part further up, no one's gonna crash into you here. (In other words, rather than shivering, I could have spent that time in my car watching another episode of Yuyushiki.) Still, it's getting dark, and he says we should set up the reflectors he put in our cars, for exactly this sort of situation. It turns out they're only in his car, not mine, so we set up his reflectors.
Dad goes hey, want to see if the engine got messed up enough that we can see just from looking at it? I go sure, why not. We pop the hood and, instead, see a huge fucking pile of twigs and leaves, right in the middle. Dad speculates that it's a bird's nest and starts pulling it out. While he does, we start hearing some sort of chirping sound. We both speculate that it's a bird, but he notices that it's not a bird and not coming from the car itself - it's a baby squirrel in the pile of nest he'd pulled out. Doesn't seem like it went well for it.
We wonder if that was the whole problem. Dad doesn't notice signs of significant oil spilling, and he checks the oil level but says it's fine. We give it a shot, and the car seems to start normally. We drive a bit down the street together, but I notice it still feels pretty clunky. I suggest switching cars so he can evaluate mine. He notices the light saying "service engine soon", asks if that's been on since I left home, I say yes. He says he doesn't want to drive it without checking how serious that is and goes to look it up in the manual.
While I'm waiting in Dad's car, I call Triple A again, and explain that we've moved the car slightly. By this point they've ditched the first contractor and are sending a new tow truck from a different company. While I'm talking with them, Dad comes back with a question about my car, I say I don't know and that I'm on a call. He keeps trying to get more of an answer from me but I'm not sure what else he expects, eventually he gets frustrated and goes back to my car.
I'm waiting on hold for the rep to try to get more info from the new driver, and text my dad to ask what he wants. He says I should hang up and we should just drive the two cars home. I ask if he's sure the car is safe, he says no but he doesn't want to keep waiting.
Around 8:30, we start driving in each other's cars. Dad takes the lead, and is in the middle of driving my car up a steep hill when it gets stuck. He instructs me to carefully drive past him, then turn around to meet him at the bottom of the hill. He decides it really isn't fit to drive home but that it should go somewhere that isn't in the middle of traffic, and finds an area that's blocked off for construction. Dad speculates that in addition to the nest getting caught in stuff, there may have been other issues from things like wires getting chewed on.
(While he was driving, I could smell that awful smell from his car, behind him. I swear I can still smell it.)
I call Triple A yet again, to explain where we moved the car this time. They say it might take another couple of hours for the tow truck to arrive. We go, no, we're not waiting that long. Dad asks about the procedure for unassisted towing, and we end up putting the keys with the car to leave for the tow truck to use. Dad also has me call the police's non-emergency line to tell them about the car we're leaving and why, so they won't take issue with it in the meantime.
Around this point, Dad asks about the friend I was talking to. I go, what are you talking about. He says, on that phone call. I say, I didn't have any phone calls with friends here, all my calls were to him or Triple A. He says, wait, that's who you were talking to? I say of course. He says, so when I told you to hang up, you hung up on Triple A? I say yes, that's what you insisted I should do. He says whoops.
We return home around 9 pm. I get out of the car first, spend a while waiting by the door for my dad to catch up, and remind him that I no longer have a house key with me, since it was on the same key ring. He goes wait, you left your house key with the car? I point out that really, it was both of our mistakes, since he was using the key ring as well, and was the first one to stash it.
Dad says we'll need to go back for it, after a much-needed chance to pee and eat dinner. I also use the chance to start making a document of things to remind myself to keep in mind about cars: supplies to keep on hand, warning signs to watch for, things to keep clean, and also the value of having someone else in your car every once in a while so they can point out things you've overlooked. Bunch of things he'd been trying to get me to keep in mind forever, that never seemed as important until I'd gotten a chance to really see the consequences first-hand. Once I finish the document, I'm thinking of printing it out and taping it somewhere visible while I drive, so that maybe I'll remember to think about it more often.
It's a pretty quick drive back to the car. In part, because my dad drives really fast. While zooming down the hills we'd been stuck on, he points out that this is why he'd really wanted me to be careful, because people sometimes drive like this on them. I point out that maybe he should not do that.
We get the house key back around 10 pm. While we're driving home, I get a call back from the police, saying it's fine to have the car there for now, but it will get in the way of the construction vehicles, so we've gotta deal with it by 7 am if we don't want to risk the police towing it instead. Dad points out that tomorrow is Saturday, the cop says it'll be fine if the construction isn't happening that day, but we do need to make sure it's gone by their next work day.
Back home, I call Triple A again. They say they've switched to using a third contracting company, but this one finally has someone dispatched, along with a tracker. Next time I check in, they say they've picked up the car. Around 11 pm, I get a notification saying it's been successfully delivered to the repair place we asked for.
A learning experience, in a number of ways. But also, man, what a mess.

This post is an extension to this post about what can be classified as a BL. I'd rec you read that post first.
Tumblr media
I woke up in the morning with this in my notifs and I just....
Anyway, let's break it down:
Does a QL simple mean that the main characters are queer and you go in knowing that?
First of, in my post I say BL is where you know "Boys are kissing boys and girls are kissing girls." If there is no romance (thus the reference to kissing), the show becomes irrelevant to the conversation.
But to answer: What's wrong with that?
That makes literally *anything* centering queer people and queer love a QL
Great! It's QL.
I've seen this pointed out multiple times have these people wondered why they don't want to call something they think is good a QL? What is wrong with the title of QL?
and that imo is somewhat belittling of queer people's existence as in their presence in society as a a given is inherently 'genre'
Yeah, and Pride and Prejudice is a 'straight genre'
If that doesn't make sense, well, that sentence didn't make sense to me. Does making crime shows make the lives of cops and criminals in to a genre??? It's such an absurd statement. Or maybe I'm just sleepy....
this is very different from thinking QL is 'bad'--you'd never call anything with an expected straight romance in it 'romance' by default
Yeah! That's how it works! Romance is romance. Romance is a genre. It's literally the biggest genre there is. There is more romance written, published, made into animation or live action than literally any other genre by a huge margin.
Romance can and is often combined with other genres. Doesn't change that it is a romance.
you'd call it whatever genre it is; when you meet a series of fitting tropes you'd call it a rom-com
What does rom stand for again?
Romance is often used with other genres, from action to horror to contemporary to fantasy to sci-fi.
This I think primarily comes from people not knowing how genres work. It's not a Boolean (as one would say in computer science). It's not a True/False thing where if it's action it can't be romance. If it's romance it can't be political.
As they say: It contains multitides.
shouldn't queer stories be afforded the same discretion?
Moonlight Chicken, Kinnporsche, Old Fashion Cupcake, Bad Buddy, Love in the Air, Not Me, 180 Degrees, GAP the series, HIStory 3: Trapped, About Youth, Mood Indigo, Cherry Magic, I could go on. You don't have to go anywhere else for it. BL already has it all.
So I'll ask again: Why do you feel that 'BL' is a bad word?
Other people have wrote about this with better sources and much deeper understanding so I'll try my best to convey it here:
As I understand the situation, something got lost in translation when yaoi travelled from Japan to the US and people started understanding yaoi to be a 'dirty' genre, that did not depict honest queerness despite it being made up of majorly queer people. It became the genre that was 'for straight women by straight women'. If you look at US the same phenomenon can be observed when people talk, or at least talked, about slash fiction. Mix in some cultural context and yaoi goes from a fun escapist genre to the bane of queer existence genre. Fiction is enjoyed differently in different parts of the world. Nothing wrong with that. Hell, nothing unique or special with that statement either. It's a fact of life. If Shakespeare can't be universal, as many like to claim, we should not expect the same of anything else.
And let's never forget how westerners think their version of queerness is the only real version. I've had personal experience with this and I can say: People need to open their minds and understand that not everything is from their perspective. When I encounter any American thing in a show or book, I simply slide past it because I'm not American. I've never been to America. It doesn't change the story itself, so why bother, what would be the point. If people applied that approach instead of analyzing every detail and expecting it to fit your world view then we would all be happier.
(It turned sappy at the end there. I'm sleepy.)

Very Late Tickletober Day 7: Flustered
Summary: Raph sees Leo acting funny around a certain scene of Space Heroes.
Note: Now don't tell anyone this........ but this is indeed a tickle fic. Lee Leo and Ler Raph.
._._.
It came out of nowhere and that was the only reason why Raph even noticed it. If Leo knew how to chill out and not react even slightly then he wouldn't have looked over. But instead, Leo was happily slouched back and watching his dumb sci-fi show.
Until he suddenly shot up like someone had set fire to his shell, blushing bright red and slamming the pause button.
"Uhh, you okay there, Fearless?"
"What? Oh yeah! Totally fine. Yep! Go back to your reading," Leo practically sang as he... fiddled with the remote controller. Not actually pressing any of the buttons or even looking at the tv screen.
Raph of course then put down his comic. Looking at the screen revealed nothing. It was the usual Dorkface's team looking shocked at a bunch of aliens carrying these neon pink guns.
Leo kept awkwardly messing with the controller, not looking up.
"You can press play, y'know?"
"I know!" Leo whined as if they were ten years old again.
"Then why don't you?"
"This episode sucks anyway." Leo absolutely failed at keeping that lighthearted as he went to pop out the video.
And what kind of brother would he be if he didn't then immediately pounce on that.
"Woah, woah! Slow your horses there. An episode of this show you don't like?" Raph grabbed Leo's arm before he could eject anything.
"Yeah, so what?" Leo weakly said.
"Well then I have to see this. episode" Raph pulled them back into the sofa and snatched the controller from his unsuspecting grip.
The noise that erupted from Leo was something he would only expect from Mikey. A manic whinge as Leo cried out his name and instantly scrabbled for the controller again.
"Give it back! It's just a bad episode!"
"And I want to watch it!"
"No you don't! Raph stop being childish!"
"Childish! Me, being childish? Look in the mirror, babynardo!"
"Raph!"
"Leo!"
"Quit it!" Leo suddenly hardened and pulled out his ninja moves to start actually pinning him down. Luckily, Raph was also a trained ninja. He threw Leo's weight away from him and managed to stab at the right button on the controller.
The episode continued and Leo let out an inhuman screech. Leo thrashed around and tried to snatch back the controller but Raph kept a tight grasp.
Captain Ryan stood boldly before the aliens and ignored the other guy yelling about how dangerous the weapons the aliens were carrying were. The aliens didn't care about whatever the Captain was prattling on about- which Raph could relate to.
It was like every second that the episode played, Leo got more frantic in stopping Raph. He had long since given up on getting back the controller and was now grabbing at Raph's head to force him to look away.
But Raph battled back. His mask was getting in the way since Leo was twisting it but he still saw the scene clear as day.
The ray guns blasted a streak of pink lightning which engulfed the Captain. Only for him to fall to the floor giggling. The aliens had tickle guns. The silted awkward animation didn't really capture the act very well. The tickling only lasted a few seconds before the aliens then ran away. Not even a full ten seconds.
Raph was smirking wildly as he turned to look at Leo. He had withdrawn away from him and was hiding his bright red face in his hands.
Raph paused the tv to really hammer home how embarrassing this must be for Leo. "Really?"
"Shut up Raph!"
"Aww, is the baby too embarrassed about the tickling? Does the baby feel weird seeing his hero being tickled? The guy who kins being tickled!" Raph cooed obnoxiously.
"Raph!" Leo leapt up and slapped a hand over his mouth.
Raph laughed triumphantly and grabbed the controller again, quickly rewinding the tape. "Aww, do you wanna watch the scene in 4D An immersive viewing?" Raph would've delighted in watching his older brother squirm all over again at the scene but he had to watch and time it carefully.
The aliens came through the doors. They held up their guns. The characters reacted.
And the second the pink lightning hit Captain Ryan, Raph launched and started squeezing Leo's sides.
"RAHAHAHAHAPH!" Leo exploded.
"Oh no Captain Ryan!" Raph put on his stupidest voice yet to truly capture the spirit of the character, "The tickle rays! They're attacking you!"
Leo at this point was just trying to run away. But Raph pulled him into his lap by his shell and scribbed his fingers all across his stomach.
Despite the tickle scene itself only lasting a few seconds, Raph made sure to really capture what it must've felt like for the captain to be tickled like that.
