#I love tommy and tubbo's characters so damn much

Okay so I just got to Clingy Duo's big argument before Tommy is exiled and I gotta say, c!Tommy is pissing me off so much.... It's great, I love it

So, even though it's been way too long since this arc happened and I am merely throwing words at a wall, I need to write down my personal opinion on this whole mess

So uh, on the affirmations that Tommy was 1) not acting selfishly, and 2) the only one to have compromised something for L'Manburg up until now, and the affirmation that Tubbo is getting closer to becoming the tyrant Schlatt was... (i read so many comments on the videos i watched about their argument claiming this):

(just warning that bellow are my unfiltered, biased opinions on this whole thing, so if you're very fond of Tommy, you might not agree very much with what i wrote)

((also, no, I don't hate Tommy, he just really annoyed me during his fight with Tubbo))

(((also also, don't take this too seriously, I literally just needed to write these thoughts down somewhere)))

-> Tommy is being super freaking selfish and Tubbo is definitely in the right here

Everyone has sacrificed things for L'Manburg already. It's like viewers are so fixated on the idea that Tommy is "the hero", that he's Theseus like Techno predicted, they forget everyone else has been fighting this whole time too.

Just during Schlatt's reign:

-Fundy sacrificed his relationship with his father and friends to become a spy

-Quackity sacrificed his power as vice-president (and if we go back to those days, Quackity did appreciate his position a lot, he used to be pretty power hungry too)

-Willbur sacrificed his goddamn sanity and consequently, his life

-Tubbo sacrificed months of himself as a person, working as a double spy for Pogtopia, putting his safety on the line /every single day/ just so he could give Willbur and Tommy the aid and info they wanted

-Literally every single other L'Manburg citizen? Who fought in the wars, laying down their lives for the country

If sacrificing something for the greater good is what makes someone a hero, then every single one of these people are heroes. Tommy is just one of many

The only things that separate Tommy from the others is Dream's ridiculous obssession with him and Tommy's own childish, reckless, irresponsible attitude

Everyone else is still doing their best rebuilding L'Manburg and trying to protect it, continuing on devoting themselves to the land they've fought so hard to keep. But Tommy has completely shed his "hero" skin already, and is back to being a reckless kid who doesn't think before acting and is ready to throw himself into a fire, causing trouble for petty reasons and playing with forces that are far beyond his reach, uncaring if that means he'll drag his friends down with him too.

Everyone is compromising. Everyone is giving up personal things for the greater good of the country. Even Dream is, to some extent. But Tommy is arguing - claiming he deserves a chance to "put himself first for a change" - as if he were the one single hero, the only one who's had to put aside personal things.

So yeah I'm sorry but no, Tubbo is not becoming corrupted - he is maturing, and growing into the best leader we have seen on this server yet, someone who cares about his people and is able to be level headed when problems arise. And he's still as loyal as ever too! It would be much safer for L'Manburg to exile Tommy from the start. But he still fought for Tommy's freedom. Only when it became the only viable option, did Tubbo truly consider the exile option.

Meanwhile, Tommy is indeed acting selfish. He is only thinking of his own self-interest, ignoring everyone else's needs (heck, ignoring their lives, who are at stake because of him!), disrespecting Tubbo not only as a superior but as a friend and a fellow comrade in battle, acting as if he were the only one who had to give something up, who had to endure things he didn't want to, as if he fought all those goddamn battles alone!

Tommy handing Dream the disks in favor of L'Manburg's independence all those months ago was supposed to be the turning point for him, where Tommy realised that no ammount of material objects, as emotionally attached to them as one could be, could ever compare to a human life (and loved lives at that).

But apparently he hasn't learnt that lesson yet.

And let's be honest, how many times has Tommy even listened to those discs anyway?? They are nothing but pieces of plastic, easily replaceable by others exactly the same, that, ever since Tommy has gotten them, have been collecting dust in someone else's Ender Chest. Tommy has no freaking use for those things, as sentimental items as they might be. They are useless and yet have been the cause of dozens of deaths and are the root of Dream's power over Tommy.

Can Tommy sacrificing his comrades, his whole country, for a couple of dusty discs that he doesn't use really be called anything but pure, petty selfishness? Sorry, but for me the answer is an easy no.

On another, less mad, note, daaaaamn everyone's acting was so good! Dream played off his part as the Big Bad Villain so goddamn well, I am amazed

And Tubbo too, his acting was phenomenal the whole stream! You could feel the hurt in his voice, the barely concealed anxiety over all that's happening, his anger at Tommy mixed with tons of worry for him, his fear of Dream, fear for L'Manburg, Tubbo forcing himself to stay strong and unbiased - like, jesus christ, it's so obvious this is the last thing he wants

Tommy was also great as usual but that I'm already used to - his face is really expressive too, it just adds even more emotion to each scene. He just knows how to entertain his audience

In conclusion: this season has been super interesting so far and I can't wait to see how Timmy's exile will go, it will probably be chaotic as heck

A superhero au from Tommy’s pov where he’s just chillin with his healing powers and then he heals a villain and then gets sucked into it. He also gets attached to this Wilbur guy that visits the coffee shop he works at.

the world forgetting by the world forgot by bonesandthebees (bonesandcacti) — [21/21, 165k words] A superhero au from Tommy’s pov where he is the hero Dream’s sidekick and has terrible amnesia, forgetting the entirety of what happened the year before. The Syndicate, a band of villains, is looking for something that was stolen from them.

Hush Now (You Were Lost But Now You’re Found) by CorpseArt — [Incomplete, 56/?, 301k] A superhero AU where Tommy was Dream's sidekick and made it his entire person, and then Dream kicks him out of the Hero Corp. Tommy needs to figure out what the fuck is going on, bc there's no way Dream would just do that, even if he did protect the villain Siren. Their one rule is to not kill. Also he meets this funky man named Wilbur at a coffee shop and they become besties. (Pogtopia my absolute beloved.)

say you’re open by remrose — [9/9, 43k] A magic AU from Wilbur’s pov where he finds this kid unconscious on the floor if his shop after attending his mother’s funeral, obviously bearing the marks of intense chaos magic. He takes care of the kid. He also gets sold a mysterious object. The twinsduo here makes my heart sing. Also Phil is kind of like “you are mildly breaking the law” and Neapolitan trio just shrug.

Technoblade’s Entirely Average Babysitting Gig by opheliabloo — [3/3, 34k] A Techno pov fic where he is in college and needs money. A really shady family is offering like 20k for babysitting for 3 hours or something absurd like that, and him being a money-hungry college student, he ventures to this house in the middle of nowhere to take care of gremlin children that try to kill him.

His Curse of Binding by bari_astralis (orphan_account) — [30/30, 144k words] A foster au from Tommy’s pov where he is reincarnated into different Greek hero stories and he needs to figure out who this time’s story is before his sixteenth birthday. Featuring: Complicated SBI bonding, (minor) Clementine being a girlboss, bench trio being absolutely precious, allium duo making fun of each other but alsok being so damn precious, Linda Smith and Miss Allingham bashing (you’ll understand when you read it, I hate their guts), and generally trying to find your peace in life.

Breathing’s Just a Rhythm by MollyPollyKinz — [53/53, 186k] A time travel canon-divergent fic where Tommy, Schlatt, Dream, Tubbo, and The Voices travel from Exile era back to Pogtopia-Manburg era, and they've gotta fix the shitty world and avoid Dream at all fucking costs. Relationship building happens, and the Voices are the best character to ever exist in all literature.

the from ice to water series by Drhair76, plantform — [12 works, 157k words] The main fic is icing those hurts, but my personal favorite is hailing on you. An ice skating au fic centered around found family and belonging in a place without harm. In the main fic, Tommy gets healed, but in hailing on you, Wilbur gets healed and it's so sweet <3

holding onto nothing by remrose -- [20/20, 71k] A mainly Techno pov fic, twinsduo centric. adhd and autistic techno, and his mom is a bitch. He goes to the Crafts for help and it's terribly sweet but also pretty angsty. At times this fic has literally been my lifeblood, like my support system in keeping me alive. I love it so much.

My Faithless Hoax by phantom_star739 -- [24/24, 105k] A supernatural? (fae, vampire, siren) crimeboys centric fic with mild political aspects. I don't really know how to describe it, but it's amazing.

This is just a really fun concept well pulled off, but I especially appreciate how benchtrio feels realistically young but not babied, and emduo is DANGEROUS. Love me a murderphil.

Written entirely as Reddit posts and comments. This one is just soooooo interesting as a form piece. It's not really crack treated seriously in anything but the form, cause once you're used to the form it's just an unsettling slow burn as you realize how unreliable your narrators might be and how people are missing information. I started it going "oh is this sympathetic [character]?" and then certain chapters hit and I went "oh noooooooooo" with eyes the size of saucers. Really interesting. Author has been going through it though.

I automatically trusted the vampires because they're emduo and I have emduo brain, but was I right to do that? Who KNOWS

This was the breakout fic of the 48 hour exchange because when I tell you this is hilarious, I am not joking. Oh my god. Quackity thinks he and Wil are enemies, Wil thinks he and Quackity are dating. They clash. It's a chat fic. It's a high school au. It's outstandingly funny.

It's super fun to see the monster designs for the hermits, Tommy was a star of his tv show but everyone was watching the show for side characters, I have no idea what's happening but I am SO here for the ride. Anyways very cute Techno who I love so much, Fae Phil who is just here to cause problems and steal children (which honestly is just gainfully enployed and respectable when you're fae), extremely hateable OC family for Techno who get what's coming to them, beautiful descriptions of magic.

techno does have the same backstory as batman pretty much. parents died in a similar fashion. the only different thing is how techno met phil,,,,

and as for his current self i'm not really sure how he got rich. bruce had like his whole company or smth i kinda forget,, anyway i'd say techno just worked really hard doing a lot of different stuff as a kid. maybe phil created minecraft and techno helped a LOT along the way and got a lot of the money from it 😭 both of those can be canon for now fjsdfj

after techno's parents died and he met phil n all, he went into a foster home but ran away from it pretty quickly just because he wanted to do things on his own. and besides, he had a tiny father-figure to help him, he'd be fine. like i said, he did a lot of neighborly chores and worked around the city with part-times to just get some stability,,\

i thought about it, but i'd say he's definitely batman for this au. don't worry i have another superhero au coming soon where he's more technoblade :D

Ooo I could go on for days about how much I love tacom! I love the characterization so much everyone feels so alive! Same with the world-building! You can tell how much love you two have for the fic when reading it and it really makes my day better when I wake up to an update! I've been reading tacom since June of 2022 and seeing how far the fic has come and knowing that it is far from over is fun!

Like with today's chapter! my favorite part was "She said whatever she wanted to say, whenever she wanted to say it, and didn’t care what anyone else thought. What she said was always what she meant, and she rarely, if ever covered up what she was actually thinking for the sake of others. Sure, it’d be wrapped in seven layers of Tommy typical nonsense like a word casserole, but Tubbo knew what he was getting with her." I don't know how to describe it but the way that you understand the characters so well and have written them so well that I can understand despite not having watched most of the source content in ages is amazing!

I don't want to ramble too much I'm not good with words but thank you both so much for writing an amazing fic I can't express how much it has brightened up my life!

Whoever compared c!Tommy to c!Purpled saying one was drowning and the other was in a desert I hate you (<-I love you). I think it’s really fucking fascinating the way hurt characters make unfair reads on other hurt characters, characters like Tommy, Niki, Jack, Purpled, and I’d even argue, Puffy. It’s hard to say they just “don’t get it” because, well, they don’t, but the implication that they simply haven’t suffered enough is false. It’s one of those little things I like to pick apart in the shower, the way different characters are unable to provide sympathy as a defense mechanism, and the way this combines with the fact they suffered differently and that a lot of them felt their suffering invalidated!

I think Puffy’s relationship with the eggpire post-banquet is fascinating, particularly when Bad and Ant went to apologize for her. She struck me as, for lack of a better word, unfair. Unsympathetic. And I think this is a reaction a lot of characters had in order to defend themselves. Because it came off as logically unfair to me at the time, but damn if I didn’t feel that. Her care for them was abused, her attempts to help burned her again and again. A combination of flattening out the source of her pain in order to slow herself to feel it, in order to make it simple, and refusing to try again with this friendship. I was absolutely shit at keeping up with the eggpire lore so I’m not sure how their relationship developed after that, but Puffy’s streams around that time burned themselves into my brain.

Niki, and even more so Jack, do this a bit more obviously. Niki finding a singular person to blame, denying any past positive feelings for L’Manberg, isolating herself, these are all obviously psychological defenses. If she was tricked into loving something, her hurt can’t be her fault (and obviously it wasn’t but I think she was scared it was), if there’s a tangible target for her blame all this pain and fear and sadness has somewhere to go (but shoveling water out of the leaky boat doesn’t plug the hole), and being alone means safety (being alone means bone-cold nights, means no one to ask her if she’s eating, when the last time she slept was).

And everyone knows about Jack’s relationship with Tommy (it was so fucking good, someone wrote a post about Jack being a character who looked at Tommy in an antagonistic light for genuinely good reason. They were on very equal footing in their, admittedly very one-sided, feud. People saw the victim in Tommy, but Tommy hurt Jack and no one seemed to care, so he shut out Tommy’s hurt, to the point he so thoroughly prevented himself from seeing Tommy as a complete person at all. A more extreme version on Puffy’s reaction post-Banquet and Niki’s simplification. All the while failing to get Tommy to just fucking look at him. He could not show sympathy to Tommy because he could not find anyone to show sympathy to him. This is why his talk with Niki the day of the prison escape imprinted itself on me, these two attempting to set up a more proper friendship again, no strings attached this time.)

My mind if first, of course, drawn to Tommy talking to Jack post-revival. The way he completely brushes over everything Jack is trying to say, pulls attention back to himself, is unable to express sympathy as he’s still trying to process his own hurt. It’s a very obvious example, with Tommy’s awful experience being so fresh this defense mechanism really shows up. Tommy is a generally fairly empathetic person so it’s definitely interesting to see this side of him on such brazen display (another example being Jack’s exile death. Oh I think so much could be said about the way this comes out towards Jack specifically). Another smaller example I think of is his “tough skin” comment to Tubbo, he doesn’t want to talk about Tubbo’s hurt and more so he’s not really able to see it over his own, he’s laser focused on himself because everything in him is laser focused on keeping himself alive and relatively intact, the exact same reasoning for everyone else’s actions I brought up here.

I’m not exactly a Purpled expert but his character definitely appeals to me. For him to seems like this defense mechanism is much more ingrained. Not just overlooking others’ pain or flattening out objects of hurt, but intentionally narrowing his focus only to himself. His coldness and self-isolation are big parts of him, but what makes them incredibly engaging is every other aspect of him that slips through. Namely, that in succeeding in what previously mentioned characters only micro (or, frankly macro)dosed on, he was hit by another unexpected problem. Being super lonely actually does really bad shit to your sense of self-worth. He mastered the survival tactic but found himself craving something else, some proof of his worth (his existence). I think it’s nifty there a range from most subtle (Puffy) to most obvious (Purpled) examples of this one not great coping mechanism. Very cool.

So the new Glass chapter. No time for a proper analysis so have my immediate thoughts:

Crime boys fight! I love your fights. They’re always set up so well. The first time crimeboys fight is when they are stuck in their little co-dependent bubble and know each other well enough to have serious ammunition to hurt. I am still obsessed with the way you allow characters to dig and get bloody down to the bones. (I also really love the words as knives and actually cutting open Wilbur’s mouth as he draws blood methapoheres.) I wish I’d known there would be a fight, I would have gotten popcorn. Several of these lines made me winch.

Also, Wilbur’s whole, I’m not a person vs. Tommy caring about him and seeing how much it’s hurting him is very on point this chapter. Same with the co-dependency. Wilbur has spent very little time apart from Tommy. This shows especially in the entire market scene. On both sides btw. Wilbur is very overwhelmed and Tommy helps clam him down just by being there and holding his hand. Wilbur gets more stressed when Tommy is gone.

Also, Tommy’s idea to go out is very stupid, but his plan to prove that Wilbur wants to stay is even dumber and putting them both through so much stress. Like Tommy was very sure of himself, but as he actually left Wilbur alone the anxiety probably kicked on cuz of Wilhur had left, Tommy would be in some much trouble and Wilbur would end up back in his cage. Also, Foolish noticed (and recognised?) Wilbur and might be able to get that info back to Eret. The question is what happens then. Also it was way to risky either way. Also, Charlie finally getting a tooth as bribery.

I’m ignoring a lot for now, but I do want to talk a bit about Tubbo cuz I totally forget Wilbur didn’t clock him as hard-hearing and it made me laugh. Also, Tubbo hops on the bandwagon of “doesn’t fully understand or trust Wilbur, but knows he will keep Tommy safe and is grateful for that’. Also, I like him forgetting his clothes, it makes him feel more human despite the fact that we’ve mostly seen the worst of him.

One more detail, after the fight, Wilbur takes off his blindfold and the narration reverts to just pronouns again. He goes back to being nothing. And that, with the context that he just screams that he’s empty at the top of his lungs, hurts so, so, so much. This chapter really came for our throats, damn. I just remembered Wilbur there’s also the Wilbur (not) deserving better comment. Bee, what are you doing to this poor man.

Actual last comment for tonight: We get vicious Wilbur again! Yeay! I missed him! He’s fun when he’s got bite!

YEAHHH the fight was so wild to write because, um, well here's a fun fact about the chapter.

the fight wasn't planned literally at ALL. there wasn't supposed to be a fight in this chapter! it just happened!

literally wilbur and tommy were supposed to just talk about going to the night market and that was it. no arguing. no disagreements even. but the dialogue just ran away from me and next thing I knew they were in the middle of a very intense argument and I was like "well okay I guess we're going with this now" and i had to sit back and rethink my entire chapter plan to see if i could still do it because it was a huge tone shift from what I originally had in store. tbh though it works so much better this way and I'm so glad you enjoyed reading the fight. I love writing fights. it's a constant balancing act of "how far can these two characters push each other before things move past the point of no return?"

oh yeah they're so codependent at this point. wilbur was overwhelmed in general from the night market because he literally hasn't been in public spaces like that for basically a decade at this point. like yes the palace held balls, but those weren't super frequent, and that was just about the only time he was around more than a handful of people at any given moment. so he was going to be anxious no matter what, but the separation from tommy really got to him.

and also yes the second tommy left wilbur to go get the food he was like "what the fuck did I do what did I do I'm so goddamn stupid fuck shit-" because he was terrified wilbur was really going to leave. he'd been acting confident, but their argument shook him way more than he let on. so yeah it was really stupid of him, but it worked!

the funny thing about wilbur is that he's so absorbed in his own problems half the time he won't notice the most obvious shit like tubbo being hoh. tbf both times he witnessed people signing at tubbo or tubbo signing at others he was stressed out about various other things, but still dude c'mon.

the reason I included tubbo forgetting his clothes was bc i realized i had already described him folding his arms over his chest and stuff which he wouldn't have been able to do with clothes in his arms, but I didn't want to go back and rewrite wilbur initially seeing him to say he had clothes in his arms either. plus, I needed something he could say as he left, so I just ended up throwing in the line about him forgetting his clothes bc I thought it was funny lol

:) I have a great time deciding when to just use pronouns for wilbur vs when to call him the pythia. it's something I'm always aware of when I'm writing this fic and it's so fun to play around with. poor guy :)

He looks at them both and promptly throws dirt in their faces, then runs off screeching.

c!Slimecicle is precious. There’s nothing to really explain, I would end any character for harming him other than others in this top6.

The only reason he is on a 6 place is the fact that I feel like I don’t need to defend him in front of community, because everyone already loves him.

5. Wilbur Soot

Ah, Wimblur, Wilmbur, Wlibrrr… Nobody understands you like I do. Pathetic crazy whore, I love him so much. His character progression is a fucking roller coaster, and that’s my favorite thing in amusement parks.

5 place, because he needs to take a shower before moving anywhere near closer to me.

4. Awesamdude

More pathetic men, yohoo! Wet guilty dog of a person, the reason why ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions’ saying exists in a first place. He took all the turns to the right in his Donna Noble-type of story, when he should’ve turn left, and I adore him for that.

He is on 4, because he has too many arms in his posession for my liking. Could’ve been 5, but I respect Fran too much.

3. Purpled

Oh yeah, my every teen fantasy book love protagonist. Cold mercenary with trust and abandonment issues. He is so cool, like not even pathetic cool like Wiblur or Sam. I once wrote a whole damn essay in a comment section under 1 video reaction Quackity lore, because they said c!Purpled sucks, and I don’t regret this decision whatsoever.

3 place, because I think it’s funny to have him and Slimecicle on the same top6.

2. Tubbo

c!Tubbo has never done anything wrong. If you disagree with me, I will bite your chin. Everything that people think he’s done wrong he actually did right, and you are just not smart enough to see it.

DAMN I REALLY FORGOT TO MENTION MY C!PRIME DREAM LAST NIGHT

tws: abuse, body horror, manipulation, murder, stalking, obsession and possessive behaviour, restraints, imprisonment

basically, it was a fantasy au. l’manberg was like a revolution or maybe an opposing kingdom to the dsmp? not 100% sure. but they lost and everyone was captured. c!fundy was spared because he was only very young, like eight or so, and obviously c!Eret did the betrayal thing and was fine, but everyone else was imprisoned and slated for execution (including c!jack and c!niki).

so, c!dream was the king/emperor/whatever, and he gave c!wilbur an offer. he’d spare another member of the revolution, but only one. the rest would be executed as planned. with c!fundy safe, c!wilbur chooses c!tommy in a heartbeat, but c!tommy is horrified, not wanting to live without c!wilbur and c!tubbo, but they’re dragged back into their cells and he’s left there.

c!tommy’s still a prisoner, and for some reason he’s restrained even heavier than anyone else, but he lives in luxury. creepily enough, it seems like whoever designed the cell he’s in now knew everything he liked and disliked, despite the fact they had no way of knowing that and even if they did they shouldn’t have known it’d be c!tommy who survives.

so, y’know how i mentioned this was a fantasy au? most characters were human, and c!clingy and c!fundy were beastmen (c!tommy was a raccoon, c!tubbo was a sheep, c!fundy was a fox), but c!Eret and c!Dream were both… something far more ancient. they might have been dreamons I’m not 100% sure? but they had fangs and feathery wings and big elaborate horns and stuff and they were immortal. and they could turn others into their species. I think you’re picking up where i’m going with this.

so, c!dream visits every day, and he’s both weirdly nice but also bluntly honest- he knew c!wilbur would pick c!tommy and organised the situation for that specifically (he refuses to say why, saying it’s more fun if c!tommy figures it out on his own), he has no plans on sparing anyone else no matter what, and he’s not ever going to let c!tommy go because he knows he’s stubborn and will want revenge. so c!tommy’s never really alone. he even has a bell he can use to ring for servants to request whatever he wants, except for any sort of freedom. if c!tommy forgets that everyone he knows and loves is going to be executed and is probably being tortured right now, it’s almost easy to pretend it’s not horrible.

and then the agony starts.

first, it’s days of splitting headaches, and flashes of blindness. then something sharp breaks through his skull and his eyes burn as their colours and shape shift. his old teeth fall out and razor sharp fangs break through his gums. the skin on his hands and feet harden and his bones shift painfully, leaving talons. his back is torn apart as it’s broken apart by the sprouting of wings, and it feels like his bones are melting as they hollow out to allow him flight.

and it’s not just his body, it’s his mind. first, it’s a craving for raw meat. then, it’s the overwhelming enhance of senses, and the dizzying newness of being able to sense magic itself leaving him bedridden and sick. he starts craving for stranger things he can’t describe too, magic itself and souls and emotions to feed on. his emotions feel so much stronger, even harder to control. and what he hates most of all is the instinctual sense of comfort he starts feeling around c!dream, the trust and affection forced into his head like some sick imitation of how he felt around c!wilbur.

c!dream himself is ecstatic to have another spawnling. it’s been so long, he’d felt scared after the exorcisms thousands of years ago and he’d missed having kin so much. if the people knew what he was, if that information wasn’t all but forgotten, they’d never look at him with the adoration they always did. but now, not only has he found kin from the time, who survived alongside him, but he had a new mortal with so much potential to become a new part of his kin too! and, obviously, the second he cast his eyes on c!tommy he sensed it, so he’d had intelligence on him at all times to learn everything about him, because that clearly made him important. he might have even tipped the cards a bit when it came to the l’manberg conflict itself, but all for the greater good, right? all for kin. kin is all that matters. and even if c!tommy hates him now, he’ll realise that eventually, right?

it ended with c!tommy forced to watch as his friends and family from l’manberg were executed, without ever being able to say goodbye and raise a hand to help them btw :)

I’m a big fan of 2nd person narration and this particular work delivers it beautifully. I also adore the way they wrote Schlatt - the fear of death, the understanding and semi-acceptance of all the wrongs he’s done to everybody, and his response to it all being just Well fuck *proceeds to drink more* - he’s so very much in character.

That very specific, and honestly pretty fucking sad implication at the end hit me in a way I wasn’t expecting too, actually-

Schlatt and Wilbur basically switch roles and with them, lots of other things change. (I love this idea so much.)

Dad!Schlatt is a thing and the Pumpkin Duo dynamic reminds me a bit of an edgier Happy Duo - that married couple who can't stop bickering. They’re great.

Fundy gets a lot of spotlight, Quackity is really intelligent and gets to show it, Techno and Schlatt are old friends, and Sweater Duo angst is a thing, so really, what else could you want??

(Also, this fic is finished, I'm not sure why it’s marked as WIP, but it might have to do with the hints to a possible sequel that just never came to be.)

Okay. I slept on it. And I think I’ve fully figured out why exactly it is that aside from obvious “comfort relationship turned sour and 2/3 comfort characters are nasty little two-faced brats) reasons, there’s a very simple explanation for why c!Beeduo’s mistreatment of c!Tommy post revival has hit so damn hard in the worse way possible. This is half analysis half ramble so heads up ahead of time

So, chommy, yes? Baby? Baby boy? Baby boy child son? Little scrunky doodle child whom we here at dsmplr adore with many notable but unimportant exceptions? He’s great, yes? Good kid? Real good kid whose been through some real bad shit and deserves to be supported and loved and cared for so he can slowly heal from it and recover in full in order to live a full happy life?

Here’s the things about c!Tommy: In all of his relationships across the server’s plotlines, c!Tommy has almost always, as a rule of thumb, been either a follower, a wingman, a second in command, or a straight up tool/toy to further another, usually older, person’s goals. He’s always the second in command. He’s always the one who does what the other person says and doesn’t get much of a say in anything without having it used against him. With Wilbur he was a follower turned victim then little brother figure. With Philza he’s the troubled kid who needs to be taught manners and lessons. With Sam he’s a kid he wants to help but so rarely does so in a way that Tommy can appreciate without suffering negative consequences(Ranboo’s murder comes to mind). And with Dream it’s obvious, because toys don’t get a say in anything they get to do :)

He’s always an afterthought in someone else’s story. And part of what made me love c!Benchtrio so much was that...they were just friends. They were all friends and all kids and all traumatized and all just hanging out and having fun. There was no power imbalance. No one bigger than c!Tommy or older than him. No one who could take advantage of him being so young and so helpless and so vulnerable as a way to use him or hurt him in some way, intentionally or not, doesn’t matter. There wasn’t anything like that with c!Benchtrio post revival pre outpost. It was clear that they were all on equal footing with each other, that they loved, cared, respected and were willing to take turns calling the shots to help each other heal.

It was nice.

It was so damn nice to see ctommy just...get to play with his friends. Get to have fun and be a kid. To see him be allowed to take charge when it came to all his little projects, to lead them around for exposure therapy, to see cbeeduo let him do what he needed to while offering support and space and anything he needed. it was so nice! It was so fucking nice!

But then the outpost arc happened.

And then c!Beeduo, for reasons we still don’t know, somehow decided to go behind ctommy’s back and decided he wasn’t worth it. That he wasn’t good enough. That he wasn’t worth the time or effort it took to be friends, and that he should just learn to deal with a cold shoulder that he’s not allowed to lean on and not be told why exactly he’s being left behind again. C!Beeduo took the one bit of power they had over ctommy, that being his unending loyalty to those he loves and refusal to give up on them no matter how many times they hurt him, and saw fit to use it as a way to disregard his feelings, his emotions, his needs for company and support, and even his humanity so that they could get away guilt-free with leaving him behind and dumping him into the dirt.

And we have no reason as to why.

I have theories.

All of them revolve around the same idea of c!Tubbo being so spoiled by the marriage that he’s forgotten how to view people as people and treats everything as a part of the perfect dollhouse of a life illusion he’s cast up around himself in order to stay sane. Most involve him deeming c tommy as too “messy” to fit into his perfect life. Most involve c ranboo being too dumb and too whipped to argue and just enabling his hubby because he doesn’t have a spine.

It’d explain them leaving c !Tommy to die.

It’d explain them abandoning him to deal with c!Wilbur.

It’d explain c!Tubbo cackling at c!Tommy’s grave while he got in good and cushy with the pig that ruined their lives a hundred times over. It’d explain him not caring about cdream being free. it’d explain him never visiting in exile or all the other ways he failed and failed and left and let tommy be tortured just to spare himself the trouble.

It sickens me, just how easily people in ctommy’s life get away with abandoning him or using him. I thought c!Beeduo were different. I thought they’d be the 1 relationship he’d have where he wasn’t the toy or the tool or the child to be led down whatever path an adult had to choose. I thought they’d all play and hang out and heal and love each other, but apparently that was a lie, and apparently there’s truly no such thing as a relationship in which c!Tommy is fully equal. Apparently he is doomed to be in service to others. And apparently I was so damn stupid for daring to think otherwise.

It’s just sad.

It’s just sick.

Back in late 2019 i had never even heard of twitch, I was on minecraft youtube watching hermitcraft, i had just recently found this funny video series on youtube by Wilbur Soot where he challenged his viewers live. Back then I thought Technoblade was just another reoccurring viewer of Wil’s! Thats so absurd to think back on!

Early 2020 I watched tommys vids in youtube where he ran around being purposefully annoying twoard the dteam, speedrunning challange, yt vids became yt vods, and he would mention checking out twitch, so would wilbur. By July of 2020 I was following wilbur on twitch, by September I had followed tommy, October I had followed tubbo.

Soon enough I was following a whole new chain of creators on a new platform, invested in their story. I hadn’t yet really registered that their timezines matter much since i was accustomed ti watching vods. I *STILL* regret having missed the pog2020 vs swag2020 election because of this! I still regret that!! God!

November 16th came and went, I was enamored with all the art that came out because of it, then Wolf the witch, then known as “channel without a name” had uploaded their animation of the 16th in the 20th. I was there, in that live chat, and after the premiere, I had made friends. I didnt think that would last, but here i am, almost two years later, and most of the “premier gang” members are still active we still talk regularly.

We watched origins together and fell in love with the vod, learned how to install mods and use fabrics launcher! I installed minecraft java edition fir the first time ever because of this, we played minecraft together, we branched out and screenshared to eachother when one would play any other game.

We had a channel specifically for when some damned streamer would go live to scream about it and summarize the premise to each other if we had missed it. By the time Tales Of the SMP rolled around we would all sit in vc together and watch as someone screen shared.

We’ve had three “seasons” of our origins smp, with shops snd community houses. I remember building water tunnels for our resident merling, and my friend would make awnings for me since i was an enderian and couldnt leave the house when it rained. We pulled pranks on eachother, my whole wheat farm was replaced with carrots, me replaced a friends house with jack-o-lanters and acacia wood!

I found other common interests with friends, we found we coult talk about other things other than minecraft incredibly easily, we made comics together, played new games together, suggested music together, celebrated together, we grieved the death of a fucking music bot together! I still miss groovy, we had so many late night ham sessions with groovy.

We still talk about c!tommy, c!tubbo, a friend makes animations about the eggpire and recently got new egg lore. It feels good after havjng seen and heard them hold on to it for so long, and thats what we’ve all done. Holding on, i guess.

I really have had so much fun, playing with my art style along these two years, creating little ficlets for my friends about characters i adore, going insane about new animations from the community. Ive had a personal au about clingyduo for well over a year now, maybe even two years? No idea, but god its been so fun, fullfilling even.

My vocabulary has deffo been changed, example A is right there, “deffo” was ages ago and hasn’t left me since. I dint think dsmp is going to leave me even if i stop interacting with it (which i don’t think I will just yet)

I love all the results I’ve personally gained from being a part of this.

Thank you so much to the streamers, the artists, the musicians, *some* of the clips channels, everyone who wrote character analysis, wrote fics, or just screamed in twitch chat or posted in the youtube comment section or live tweeted/ live blogged any moment they loved.

Thank you to the fanbase, more than anything, for making this place so loved.

I had a bit of a headcanon I wanted to share. At least, I think it would be considered headcanon? Or maybe it would be an AU if I ever used it in my writing.

Anyways, I think all characters in Minecraftverse or whatever could be divided into three categories that I have called: Bound, Unbound, and Interim.

Bound: Your NPCs. Your random villagers, your mobs, people bound to the specific Server they are in. They have to follow all the server rules, and changing the server changes their inherent nature. They are bound to the specific rules of the server. They don't have inventory, they aren't as durable. They are just living their lives. They change as their home server changes.

Interim: Your Player Characters, the people who can move from server to server. They aren't bound by a single server's rules, they have their own rules. They move between the servers, through the Interim. They have abilities Bound do not have, like an inventory, advanced means of communication, ways to shift servers as they like. Sometimes, they don't permanently die. They have never been bound to a server, they go where they will.

Unbound: These used to be bound. They used to be attached to a server. But something changed. Who can say what exactly changed? But while they used to be Bound, now they have access to things they didn't have access to before. Practically, they are no different than Interim. Except for the fact that they REMEMBER what it felt like to be Bound. They remember the simplicity of it. But there is a reason they are no longer bound. Maybe they were loved so much by an Interim and they loved in return that the very makeup of their soul changed? Maybe revenge fueled them until they literally shook off their bonds to achieve it? Who can say? No one really understands WHY some people become Unbound, they just know they do.

A few other examples.

Bound can travel between worlds. It isn't easy, because it isn't natural, but it can happen. But that doesn’t make them Unbound. And it might not be particularly healthy.

For example, if a Bound was put in a world filled with water and everyone in that world could breathe under water, they would drown. Because they are bound to the rules of THEIR server, not the new server. Their body wouldn't change. But, if an Unbound or an Interim were dropped into an underwater server, they would adapt. They would be able to change to fit the new rules of the world. Because they are not bound to a single server.

Interim are born Interim. Their parents were either Unbound or Interim themselves.

I feel like this structure would be very fun to play with. And for my own headcanons, I can think of some characters in each category. But really, you could play it anyway you want. Like, What if Technoblade was Bound but through Interim Philza's friendship and Techno's pure stubbornness, became Unbound? What if Ranboo and Tubbo tried everything possible to make Michael Unbound because they didn't want to lose him? What if on one Server, Interim and Unbound were hated because they treated everything like a game, but Tommy finds himself suddenly Unbound and has to hide it? Possibilities are endless.

Except I would have to write all of those and oof, that would be a lot. Anyway, thought I'd share with someone. I thought it was cool, but feel free to ignore if you think its cringe. It won't hurt my feelings at all. I'll still probably write something using it...eventually.

I feel like for Techno, maybe it’d make most sense for him to be born bound at first because he’s a mob player? Like, a piglin that somehow changed? And whatever caused him to change - be it the Blood God’s contract or something else - is also what made him unbound?
