Little doodles of little ponies. I think that Ditzy Doo can’t fly well because she’s 3/4s earth pony, so she has a heavier bone density than normal pegasi. Also she probably needs glasses but she refuses to get them lol.

I’m rewatching Wednesday and when Xavier said he was ‘two feet shorter and about forty pounds heavier’ kinda made me think he’d have stretch marks? And idk I’ve been thinking of tracing them and like complimenting them

Xavier was coming out of his bathroom, sweatpants low on his waist and one around his neck to dry his hair and no shirt on, when you knocked on his door. He takes a moment to rub the water out of his hair before throwing the towel in his hands onto the foot of his bed.
“Hi baby.” Xaviers face lights up when he opens his door to reveal you with snacks in one hand and an extra blanket in the other. “So I was thinking we should go either comedy or horror tonight?” you proposed while you brushed past him to set your things onto his desk.
For a moment he’d forgotten why you were there, it was Friday, your movie nights. He wasn’t completely sure when they began but he certainly wasn’t going to complain about spending time with his favorite person. Sometimes you’d switch off between your dorms, however after the events with Rowan went down movie nights took place in his room more often than not. No roommate to interrupt the peace during whatever movie you or Xavier had picked and nobody to comment on the way you supposedly looked at one another — your roommate, Yoko, loved to point it out no matter how many times you’d denied it. Though both of you had feelings for each other, there was no chance in hell you were going to risk the relationship you had.
Xavier had a crush on you from the beginning of your friendship while your’s came a couple of months later. There were little things each of you did to show your affection for the other so as to not say your feelings outright. You’d keep a hair tie on your wrist at all times for when he inevitably forgets his somewhere, while he’ll give you little drawings most days. Sometimes they’d be of you in class or something he’d seen and thought you might like. Every time it was the latter he made a mental note to make it come to life for you at some point.
“Xav? What do you think?” you speak, breaking the boy from his thoughts.
“Oh uh whatever you want. Isn’t it your turn to pick anyway?” he shrugs.
“Y’know that I like to pick something we’ll both like.”you mutter, walking closer to him. Quickly, you bring your arms around him and pull him into a hug. Both you and Xavier stand in the middle of his room for what feels like forever, enjoying the warmth of his skin radiating out into the shared space between you.
Stepping back slightly, your eyes wander across his naked torso and they stop on the marks ranging from dark to light that are lining the area above his hips. It’s not as if you hadn’t seen him shirtless before, but seeing them up close sparked something in you. Lifting a hand towards the marks you let it hover above his skin. “Can I…” Xavier is nodding before you can get another word out.
You begin to run your thumb across the markings, tracing over them, learning and memorizing the way that they feel under your skin, the supple skin bumping up against your fingers.
When you glance up at him, the worried look etched on Xaviers face isn’t hard to miss. Your heart stutters and your smile falters as you realize how he might feel in that moment.
“Hey, I’m sorry don’t worry, I think that they make you look pretty cute.” your voice is soft-spoken, trying to convey the truth to the long haired boy. Xaviers worries fade away a little bit as a smile is brought to his face, sensing the honesty in your voice. His smile grows slightly bigger when he still feels your fingers tracing over the marks.
“Thank you.” the words fall from his lips quickly. Though he was short with his response you knew that he meant it.
“Kiss me.” Both you and Xavier blurt out at the same time. His eyes widen in shock and your shoulders shake with laughter.
Xavier cups your cheek and brings his head down to yours, and presses his lips on yours for the first time. It felt as if sparks were flying around you two. When you break apart, Xavier has a goofy smile on his face that makes your heart melt.
“Come on pretty boy. It’s movie time.” you smile.

you stand at your locker rummaging through your books searching for your history book. “hey!” topanga hollers, followed by cory. you push you locker door inwards revealing the couple. “have you seen shawn?” cory questions, you simply shake your head and close your locker. “no, why?” you ask, leaning against the metal. “i haven’t heard from him over the weekend. totally unusual, normally i csnt get rid of him” cory answers, your eyebrows raised. now that you think of it, he hasn’t called or stopped by to see you either.
shawn was the type of boyfriend to check in occasionally, even out of school. he’d often surprise you with small gifts just to lighten things up if you were having a bad day. so this was out of character for him, if he was sick or something came up he’d always tell you or cory. something wasn’t right.
“wel..” you trailed off, furrowing your brows. “we can call if he doesn’t show. surely he wouldn’t not show up and not have a reason or tell us” the other two agrees and decided to let it go for the rest of the day.
but a day turned into two, and next thing you knew he never showed that whole week. you tried desperately to call but each time it went to voicemail. you felt frustrated, why did he disappear all of a sudden? why didn’t he tell anybody? you were high strung for the remainder of that week. snapping at people when you didn’t mean to but, nothing was as important as shawn was to you.
“did i do something to upset him?” you’re laying on topangas bed. she invited you over to work on a project, but after you stayed for dinner. “what if he doesn’t want to be with me anymore? what if he found someone else.” your mind is racing, why else would shawn not come to school or return your calls?
you hear topanga sigh, and came to your aide. “y/n, look at me” you sit-up, looking at her. she puts her hands on your shoulder, “he loves you, y/n. i’m sure he has a reason for why he’s been gone.” you groan, she was probably right but it didn’t your heart from aching. “now, cmon. let’s go eat dinner, okay? get your mind off things.”
it wasn’t unusual for you to be home alone as your parents were typically on work trips. you had your own little routine after school. you’d come home, make a snack, do some homework, maybe read for a couple hours, shower, then go to bed. but today was different, after doing your homework you were pretty exhausted so you had just planned on laying down. thank god you we’re graduating in a few months, the work was beginning to run you down mentally.
it seemed no matter how hard yo supplied yourself, you always came in last. you were barely making the grades to pass your classes, but you were trying so hard.
as you were entering the bathroom, ready to brush your teeth and wash your face you heard banging at your door. of course, you didn’t want to answer because who would be banging on your door at this hour? but, something told you to answer it. you cursed at yourself mentally, you were too nice for your own good and your kindness would be your demise. but when you opened the door you didn’t expect to see him. “shawn?”
“i’m sorry for coming here so late but i just didn’t know where else to go.” shawn states as he runs his hand through his hair. your heart broke just looking at him. it looked like he hadn’t slept in days, his eyes were so dark, he looked beyond exhausted. “shawn, you don’t have to apologize. you know you’ll always have a place here.”
shawn took a seat at the edge of your bed he feels like his heart has been ripped out, all he wants to do is sleep and probably never wake up again. “i just” he rubs his eyes. “i got left alone again, dad went out. i just i didn’t have the guts to face you.” he feels so little, sitting in front of you like this on the verge of tears. “oh, shawn..” you cup his face making him look at you. “it’s okay, you know i’ll always be here. no judgement, shawn. it’s just you and me” you offer a smile.
you see the tears swell in his eyes. shawn wraps his arms around you and rests his head on your stomach. “i’m sorry” he says just above a whisper. “shawn, you didn't do anything wrong. there's nothing to apologize for." you feel him shake his head against your, “no, y/n. i’m sorry i’m not good enough for you.” tears begin to fall from his eyes and he hold on to you as if you were about to be ripped away from him.
“i live in a trailer park, i have nothing to offer you, you could do some much better than me..i don’t deserve you, y/n. you need someone who can provide and give you what you need..i don’t know if i can be that person for you, y/n” you can feel his tears staining your shirt. you remove his arms from your waist as you fall to your knees so you could be eye level with him. “shawn. listen to me” you wipe away his tears, smiling sadly. “you are good enough for me. in fact, i often think you’re too good for me because sometimes i think you could find someone better than me.” now you begin to tear up, confessing all of your bottled emotions.
“shawn, i have felt this toward someone as much as i have you. you’ve saved me so many times and you probably don’t even know it. i promise, you are good enough. you’ll always be good enough, okay? i’ll always be here for you, just let me be the love you need.” tears begin to fall from your eyes, so now the both of you are a crying mess.
“don’t cry, i hate seeing your cry” shawn hums, he wipes away your tears and rests his hand on your cheek. you nod, “i know..” sniffling.
there’s a moment of silence between you two, a comfortable silence. shawn is staring at you. admiring you, puffy eyes and all. he realizes how in love he is, that no matter what life throws at him that he will always have you. shawn softly rubs the pad of his thumb over your check.
“i love you.”
you blink, a few seconds of silence fills the room. he hadn’t said that to you yet, in your years of dating he hadn’t said he loved you, once. shawn was too afraid to love anybody. afraid that he’d ruin the person he wants to love. shawn was like that most of his life, until you changed his mind.
“what?” you feel all the air leave your lungs, your emotions were all over the place now. from crying to now feeling this warmth in your chest as you heard him say the words you had been waiting so long to hear. “say it again”
“i love you, y/n.”
instinctively you wrap your arms around his neck, embracing him in a tight hug. “i’ve been waiting to hear that for so long” you sniffle. shawn rubs you back, you feel him nod. “i know, i should’ve said it a long time ago.”
hours later, after the both of you had spilled your hearts to each other, you offered him dinner but he denied claiming he just wanted to lie down.
you rested comfortably on his chest, he drew circles on your spine. both of you enjoying the silent. “i want to spend the rest of my life with you.” you say. shawn is taken aback, looking down at you. “what?” you look up, smiling softly. “i know we’re still young, but there’s no one else in my life i’d want besides you. i want to be with you forever.” you see him smile, and he tightens his grip around you.
“i like the sound of that…y/n hunterthat has a nice ring to it”

An Incredibly Long and Wholly Unnecessary Disection of How Fate: The Winx Saga Missed the Mark on What Made the Winx Club Special
So, I decided to make this cause I have way too many feelings on this and I saw someone make something similar about a different franchise and loved it so here goes.
DISCLAIMER: If you’re a fan of the Winx Club and enjoyed Fate, I have nothing against you, these are just my feelings and I 1) am really glad you were able to enjoy it and 2) genuienely sorry a show you loved got canceled cause I know how much that sucks
SPOILERS FOR FATE AND THE FIRST 3 SEASONS OF THE WINX CLUB (AND A BIT OF SEASON 4)
One more thing: I’ve only watched Fate once since I’m not about to make myself rewatch it for this so if I forget any certain scene I apologize.
With that out of the way, the themes I will be discussing in this essay will be divided into 4 categories: The Problems I Have In General. Questions That Will Never Be Answered. Character Deep Dives/Character Rants. And finally, How Fate failed to capture the Essence of Winx Club.
These will be the themes of every category (feel free to skip any that may not interest you).
The Problems I Have In General:
The Abandonment of an Amazing World and Dimension for a Hogwarts Rip-Off.
The Erasure of Good Adoptive Parents
Polyamorous My Ass (Srsly What the Fuck was that?)
Fake Feminism and Pitting Women Against Each Other
The Love Triangle Took Years From My Life and I’m Tired
Why Glitter and Love was Essential to the Feminism of the Winx Club
Questions That Will Never Be Answered
What Makes the Specialist Special?
Where are the Witches?
Why are Riven and Sky friends?
Character Deep Dives/Character Rants
From Naive but Loyal and Heroic to Boring and Annoying (A Bloom Deep Dive)
How Stella Became Everything She Stood Against (A Stella Deep Dive)
Why Musa Kinda Works but Really Doesn’t (A Musa Deep Dive)
Was Terra Necessary? What made her unique? (A Terra Deep Dive)
From Hero to Zero (An Aisha Deep Dive/Rant)
Why Sky Somehow was the Most Interesting One but Still Boring (A Sky Deep Dive)
Why Riven will Always Get the Short End of the Stick (A Riven Deep Dive/Rant)
Bea Could’ve Saved the Show, BUT- (A Beatrix Rant)
Why Flora Mattered (A Flora Deep Dive/Rant)
A Retrospective Look at Soft Boys (A Helia and Timmy Deep Dive/Rant)
The Forgotten Protectors (A Brandon and Nabu Rant)
Why Tecna is Often Discarded and Why She Shouldn’t Be (A Tecna Deep Dive/Rant)
How Fate Failed To Capture the Essence of the Winx Club
How Fate Forgot the Most Important Aspect of the Winx Club: Friendship Amongst Young Women
Now with that out of the way, let’s get to it, cause this is gonna be a long one.
The Problems I Have In General
The Abandonment of an Amazing World and Dimension for a Hogwarts Rip-Off
So. I think we can all agree that the world of Winx Club is one that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also very unique and magical.
We have Magix, where the three schools of magic are, all with very different but equally interesting aesthetics and designs that make sense for what the schools teach. We also have the city of Magix, where we have magical ships and a cool toned color pallet that makes us feel like we’re in a futuristic world, Red Fountain also feels right out of a sci-fi movie, whilst the clothing, stores, Cloud Tower and Alfea remind us of the magical aspects of the world.
Further into the series, we see the girls’s home planets, which are all very different, creative and fit the girls perfectly. We have Solaria with two suns, Lynphea as an ecologists utopia with hollow trees for houses and giant ladybugs for transport, Zenith as a sci-fi dream, Melody with its glittering oceans and singing whales, etc.
Watching Winx Club, just looking at the world adds so much to the feeling of magic, the setting just helps the story so much. Also it’s just fucking gorgeous.
Now compare that to Fate… where we get a dark forest… and an old Mansion, that serves as both Red Fountain and Alfea…
I would just like to say, I’m a sucker for dark academia, I love this aesthetic, for other shows, but this is supposed to be an adaptation of Winx Club, where there already was an amazing world where the story was set in, so why didn’t they even try to use that? I don’t know, but it really bothers me that they didn’t try even one bit.
Especially when the vibrant colors and fantastical environment were such a big part of what made the Winx Club stand out.
The Erasure of Good Adoptive Parents
I remember watching Winx Club for the first time and when it was revealed that Bloom was adopted I literally was like… but… her parents love her…
Yep.
We very rarely get good adoptive parents in stories (it’s getting a bit better but still, at least as a kid this was pretty much the only time I ever saw fictional adoptive parents that actually loved their child).
So, the fact that in Fate we get Vanessa (the sweetest mom ever in the cartoon) be a maniac who takes away Bloom’s privacy and tries to live vicariously through Bloom just really fucking pissed me off.
Like… what was the need for that? You didn’t need Bloom to be pissed for her to lose control of her powers and accidentally burn her parents.
In fact, I think it would’ve been even more traumatic and dramatic if Bloom had a good relationship with her parents (like she did in the cartoon) but still lost control, maybe in her sleep, and burned the people she loves most in the world, that would’ve been so angsty it would’ve been great.
But no, let’s continue the narrative that adoptive parents can’t be good parents.
Polyamorous My Ass (Srsly What the Fuck was that?)
This just… I’m so tired.
We pretty much never get Polyamorous relationships in shows like this and then we get… whatever the fuck this was.
So… Bea is obvs just using both Riven and Dane (it is Dane right? I don’t care enough to check). Riven, only likes Bea and is very biphobic towards Dane and Dane seems to be in love with Riven and kinda like Bea.
This relationship (if you can even call it that) is weird. Sometimes it’s portrayed as toxic, other times it isn’t and it’s just weird.
This also really fucking pissed me off. Because… why? You could’ve had Dane as a separate character, in the original we already had the Darcy/Riven plotline so why did you have to add Dane?
Honestly, Dane could’ve just had a crush on Riven and become genuienly friends with Terra or smth, he didn’t have to be involved with Riven and Bea, that should’ve been a separate plotline. If you wanted a bi character so badly you could’ve just made one of the girls (Flora- sorry Terra, Musa and Aisha are already largely headcannoned to be bi, they could’ve used that) be bi. You didn’t need to introduce a new character for the sake of diversity, especially if you were going to screw it up that badly.
Cause Riven and Bea are already dramatic enough on their own, we didn’t need this poor, horrible attempt at a polyamorous relationship.
Fake Feminism and Pitting Women Against Each Other
Next up… oh dear…
Where can I even start? Okay, one of the first things we see in the series is Bloom telling Sky he is mansplaining… when he’s very clearly not…
The desire to come across as feminist and be an #womenempowerment show is so obvious it almost hurts. But they never do anything to actually show this.
From the very first conversation between Bloom and Stella in the show, it was very obvious to me that they would be competitors, not best friends like in the show.
Throughout the show, we see the girls berate each other, compete and insult one another, and I don’t see how any of that can be seen as feminism.
Stella literally almost causes Bloom’s death out of jealousy over Sky.
How is this anything like the Winx Club?
The closest bond in the group is probably between Musa and Terra. And even then, a lot of the time I feel like Musa only tolerates Terra, and they feel like roommates, not best friends who would die for each other like they were in the Winx Club.
There is very little support amongst the women of Fate, there are few instances when we aren’t being told to compare them or to see who is best. That is not feminism.
Now, it would’ve worked very well if the girls got off on the wrong foot but we got to see them slowly bond and slowly trust each other and become good friends, but I never felt that. The only time that they join forces is to clean up the mess that they made, and even then it never feels like all 5 of them are on the same page, it’s more like the world (and story) is forcing them together.
This was a tad bit better in season 2 but there were mostly moments between 2 Winx not all of them (the only moments I liked were the sleepover and Terra coming out) in season 2 the strongest bond was clearly that of Stella and Bea.
So yeah, with constant competition, fights and very few moments of actual friendship, almost all of which feel forced, I can say that Fate does not feel like a Feminist show at all.
From the moment I saw they were going to ignore the gem that was Bloom and Stella’s bond in the original I knew they weren’t going to try to actually make the girls friends and support one another.
The Love Triangle Took Years From My Life And I’m Tired
Why? Why? WWHHHHYYYYYYY?!?!??!??
What was the reason? What was the fucking reason?!
There was none.
There was not a single reason why the love triangle between Bloom, Sky and Stella should’ve happened or was needed.
They could’ve easily introduced Diaspro, a character we already know and a character whose only purpose in the cartoon was to create drama and tension between Bloom and Sky.
Love triangles are dead. We all know that. You will never be Jem/Tessa/Will, stop fucking trying.
Okay so, first off, I would’ve honestly been okay if we’d seen Sky and Stella be exes and they like ‘Yeah we tried that was a huge mistake but now we’re friends’ and then Bloom comes in and Sky isn’t sure cause she’s Stella’s bestie but Stella is encouraging, that could’ve been cool. But that is obviously not what we got.
Why do we always pit women against each other over a man? I think we all know the answer to that.
The Love Triangle was bland, boring and useless. Nothing came out of it.
We apparently got Stella and Sky realizing they were codependent and toxic which… duh. But nothing comes from this, we never see them get closer and have a healthy friendship, we get 1 scene in season 2 that is never expanded upon and that’s it.
They threw Stella and Bloom’s friendship to the trash for a Love Triangle that absolutely nobody wanted. And even in season 2, Stella and Bloom? They’re not friends. They’re barely cordial with one another and that pisses me of so fucking much I can’t even describe it.
In the cartoon the girls NEVER fought over a man, if there were moments of jealousy they were passing (I can remember exactly 1 with Aisha and Bloom in season 2. That’s literally it). There could be drama with other girls and even that was very little mostly Diaspro and the messes with Mitzi and Crystal in later seasons but the cartoon almost never relied on that to create drama against the girls because they knew it wasn’t really needed.
This triangle did nothing for any of the characters and the drama was petty and stupid. I just… I honestly don’t think I’m really saying anything of substance here but this particular topic just makes me sooooo mad that I can’t even describe the particulars of how this Love Triangle makes me just so mad cause it was FUCKING USELESS, IT DID NOTHING FOR THE CHARACTERS OR THE STORY IT WASN’T NEEDED, IT WASN’T WANTED AND IT WASN’T…. UUUGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!
Why Glitter and Love was Essential to the Feminism of the Winx Club
The feminism of the original Winx Club (especially the first 4 seasons) was honestly very simple. It wasn’t in your face or even really ever called out.
To me, the feminism in the original Winx Club was just… the girls themselves.
We had six very different young women, who were all portrayed as strong, funny, beautiful and just awesome.
We have Bloom, who’s a bit of a girl next door. She can be a bit hotheaded, but she’s crazy loyal and incredibly strong. We see her be naive sometimes and be really nervous and attempting to find her place and we also get to see her step up to the occasion when it’s time for blows.
We have Stella, a fashionista who I will talk a lot about in her section cause I am pissed of what they did to her. We see her be a kind person and try to grow and be dedicated to her passions.
We have Flora who is the girliest of girls but still portrayed as strong and smart. Her softness doesn’t erase her strength. And she doesn’t have these big stand up moments of ‘I’m strong and I will prove it to you!’ She just is strong.
We have Musa, who’s a bit of a tomboy and slightly more rough around the edges but who has a lot of emotional depth.
We have Tecna, who can come across as cold but who we see literally almost die for her friends and who has such a big heart.
We have Aisha, who’s very sporty and who has to seek out her place in the group and kinda learn how the whole friend group works and who we see grow in season 2.
We have a hotheaded girl next door, a kind fashionista, a girly girl, a musical tomboy, a tech girl and a sporty girl who are all portrayed as different and unique but are also all portrayed as strong.
Yes, we see them occasionally butting heads (if I remember correctly Musa/Flora and Stella are the ones that butt heads most often) and fight sometimes, but we see that their friendship is stronger than all of that.
We see them support each other in so many different ways and be the definition of ride or die.
Something I really like is that they don’t really make fun of each other’s interests despite having vastly different personalities. And they also don’t compare themselves and understand that they’re all awesome in their own ways.
The girls are united in friendship in such a deep way that they could probably never stop being friends even if they tried.
And… none of that is included in Fate.
Which is a fucking shame.
We don’t really see the girls’ interests in Fate, we just see them all acting like angsty teenagers who are either lashing out at pretty much everybody or being a bit of a doormat. They’re not really portrayed as strong either.
I can’t see the uniqueness that was there in the cartoon. The girls aren’t really… they’re just not interesting. Especially when compared to their cartoon counterparts.
Also, this part is a bit more petty and something personal to me but I think a lot of you can relate so…
Seeing girls that were fashionable, girly and weren’t afraid to show off their girlie side was awesome. Especially in a world of ‘I’m Not Like Other Girls’ protagoinsts that just hate dresses and only wear them once.
As a girlie girl myself, looking back on the Winx Club, I love that they didn’t try to make the girls more masculine to make them seem stronger. Even Musa, Aisha and Tecna who are arguably the least ‘girly’ show off their more feminine side in a way that feels natural.
So yeah… that last part doesn’t have to do that much with Fate I just wanted to add that.
Questions That Will Never Be Answered
What Makes the Specialists Special?
First off, I would like to say that I loved that in Fate women could be Specialists and guys could be fairies, I just thought that was really neat. So kudos to you for that Fate. Enjoy it, I won’t give you many.
Now on to the question. What makes the Specialists special?
In the cartoon, the reason I really liked the Specialists was their weapons, they were colorful, creative and straight out of a sci-fi movie. Brandon’s sword, Sky’s boomerang, Riven’s bolas, Timmy’s gun, Helia’s gloves etc.
It always felt like the Winx got magic and fantasy while the Specialists got technology and sci-fi.
And that is, once again, gone in Fate. The Specialists are now generic warrior driving Jeeps and wearing leather.
Where are the capes? The Owls and Wind Riders? Everything that made the Specialists cool even when they didn’t do much in a fight?
Where did that all go?
This one was more of an aesthetic thing but I still feel like it took a lot away from the Specialists and what made them low-key iconic.
Where are the Witches?
Where are they? Seriously I wanna know where my girlies are?
I get that, since they got rid of the transformation and gave us half assed CGI wings it might’ve been hard to differentiate the witches from the fairies but still… you can’t just not have freaking witches!
I like getting to see evil fairies but still. I don’t like this!
I just feel like it takes away so much not having the witches. Can you imagine getting Lucy and Mirta in Fate?… actually no, they would’ve been screwed over but you know what I mean.
Yet another topic that makes me so mad and petty that I can’t quite describe it.
Why are Riven and Sky friends?
Okay so, this is actually a genuine question.
Most of the boys were excluded from Fate (which I’m lowkey grateful for cause if they’d done my boys Helia and Timmy dirty there would’ve been blood) so they kinda had to smush Riven and Sky into bestie status.
Now, looking at this objectively, we know that in the cartoon, Sky’s bestie is Brandon. And Brandon and Riven have more things in common than you’d expect.
They’re both good fighters and work hard at Red Fountain, they’re kinda ladies men, they can be jokesters from time to time but take their duty seriously. They’re also pretty competitive.
I think Brandon is what Riven would’ve been if he had a normal childhood.
The main difference is that Riven has walls. He shuts people out and can be a bit of a jerk sometimes. The Riven in Fate is a straight up asshole.
So… why is he friends with Sky?
I’ll be honest, I really wanted to see more of these two, I think the dynamic could’ve been really interesting and cool to explore but… we got… pretty much crumbs.
With the like… two moments we have with them I don’t see why they’re friends and it ruins my sense of disbelief just that much more.
Character Deep Dives/Character Rants
From Naive but Loyal and Heroic to Boring and Annoying (A Bloom Deep Dive)
Let’s talk about our favorite hotheaded redhead shall we?
I’ll be honest, Bloom was always my least favorite Winx and I actually grew to dislike her post season 3, but… she didn’t deserve this.
I’m honestly not sure how to describe why the Bloom from Fate is just… so fucking boring… I don’t really feel many emotions coming from her.
In the original (at least the first 3 seasons) Bloom has quite a bit of personality, she’s a bit naive and impulsive but also THE ride or die bestie.
She’s fun to watch even if I would sometimes get frustrated when she acted a bit stupid or when she was impulsive.
Bloom worked as a protagonist partially due to her impulsive habits (since they make her take the lead/initiative in many occasions) but I feel like with Fate Bloom that impulsive nature comes across as more annoying since Fate Bloom isn’t as friendly as OG Bloom and doesn’t really have anyone to bounce her impulsiveness off of like she did in the OG.
I don’t know, I just never really felt any connection with her but overall I think she’s still the one that was done the least dirty. And the one I’m the least furious about.
I think the main problem I have with Fate Bloom is that she’s got that ‘I have to do this alone’ attitude and it never really changed, so she doesn’t really have anyone to bounce off of to make her impulsive and stupid moments less annoying.
How Stella Became Everything She Stood Against (A Stella Deep Dive)
Welp… I am fucking furious now.
I think most of us will be able to agree that one of Stella’s main purposes in the original show was to break the Dumb Blonde/Mean Blonde stereotype that was much more prevalent in the 2010′s.
Stella could come across as a bit full of herself and could be mean since she didn’t really have a brain-to-mouth filter but she was never mean on purpose and always made up for her mistakes.
We see that Stella is at her core a kind person and soft-hearted individual when we see that after knowing Bloom for a whole of one day and Bloom helping her once, Stella is willing to risk getting herself expelled to give Bloom the chance to go to Alfea.
We also see there’s more to her than just superficial stuff when, after the Sky-Brandon reveal she tells Brandon that she cares more about the face that he lied than the fact that he isn’t a prince. The quote was along the lines of: ‘My parents are the King and Queen of Solaria, didn’t do them much good.’
And of course in season 3 we learn that Stella is actually very insecure and believes people like her just because of her looks and get one of the best moments/episodes of the entire series.
Yes. Stella cares about her appearance and loves fashion, but there is so much more to her character than that. She is a loyal friend, incredibly kind person and willing to do anything for those she loves.
Now let’s look at Fate’s Stella
………..
I am just… Fate turned our Stella into a bitchy mean girl. That is all Stella really is.
Even in season 2 she still acts like a mean girl to the rest of the girls most of the time. I never felt her bond with any of the girls or even Sky for that matter, her best scenes were easily with Bea.
I just don’t understand how they missed the entire fucking point of Stella’s character and made her exactly into the stereotype she was supposed to subvert. How do you fuck up that much?!?!!?!?!
She tried to fucking KILL BLOOM OVER A GUY!!! The original Stella would’ve killed her with her staff for even laying a FINGER on her bestie.
Stella’s character in Fate might just be the one that pisses me off the most because of how much they missed the fucking mark with her.
They made her literally everything she stood against and then acted like they did something when she did the bare minimum for her ‘friends’.
And I cannot bring myself to care about the drama with her mom because of how fucking pissed I am about this.
Okay let’s think about it. This could’ve worked if Stella was only acting like a bitch because her mom expected that but, in the rare instances when she was sure no one was watching and no one would noticed, she revealed her soft side to the girls and they were like ‘Oh, this is the real Stella, bitchy Stella is just a mask’ but it doesn’t go like that.
Even after the reveal of her mom, she’s still a bitch!
Our Stella would never and I hate whoever thought this was a good idea, you sir or ma’am  are stupid and the whole point of Stella’s character flew right over your fucking head! (No hate to the actress or any actors in the series though)
Why Musa Kinda Works But Really Doesn’t (A Musa Deep Dive)
I was wrong before. Musa is actually the one I’m least pissed off about because I actually kinda enjoyed her character in Fate, especially in the second season. (Doesn’t excuse the fucking white washing though).
I think out of the girls Musa would’ve probably been the easiest to adapt into a more ‘mature’ setting cause she is kinda the ‘angstiest’ of the girls due to her mom’s death and being the tomboy of the group. However… the Musa we know can be a little sassy and get annoyed with the girls from time to time but with Fate Musa, it’s a lot more prevalent.
Which makes sense with the change to a mind fairy (which I hate, can you imagine all the cool visuals we could’ve gotten if they’d kept her as the fairy of music? Also they still could’ve had the empath thing with her being able to ‘hear the songs in people’s hearts’ and just cranking that up to eleven).
I actually don’t have that much to say about Musa. I enjoyed her character, especially in the second season, I feel like she’s the only one that’s reasonably lashing out and it makes sense when she’s annoyed and I feel like we got to see her soft side in a few moments and she was involved with all of my favorite moments of Fate.
The only issue is that she’s angstier than the original Musa but again, it actually makes sense this time.
The only thing I am actually pissed off at is that we lost her dynamics with Tecna and Aisha cause there is no Fate Tecna and Fate Musa doesn’t really interact with Aisha and when she does it’s a far cry from their cool original dynamic and her chemistry with Terra isn’t enough to make up for it.
Was Terra Necessary? What Made her Unique? (A Terra Deep Dive)
So, we all know what happened with Terra. They white washed half the cast realized that we would obviously be pissed and tried to save it by changing Flora’s name to Terra and saying she was a new character… nice try.
Also as a latina myself, fuck you. If you’re going to claim you were going for plus-size diversity you do realize you could’ve just gotten a plus-size latina right? Anyways, fuck you.
So Terra… I don’t really care about her and kinda dislike her. I’ll admit that I am very much biased due to Flora being my fave and my latina rage but I just don’t find Terra interesting.
I don’t know what it is about her that makes her rambling annoying instead of endearing or whatever it is they were going for. They didn’t really give her anything interesting to do, she literally just had the ‘I’m fat self-confidence’ arc. I think I might’ve kinda liked Terra if she’d had something interesting to do.
The only scenes I genuienly enjoyed with her were her conversation with Riven (right before the final fight if I remember correctly) and her talk with Musa while Sam is dying... Coincidentally the moments she reminded me more of Flora…
Then in the second season she had a super weird attitude with Flora, I wasn’t sure if she was jealous or angry or what it just made her that much weirder to me, like, what the fuck was going on there? I don’t really think we ever got an answer for her weird behavior with Flora, cause I’m not buying it was just cause of Riven. That was weird.
The only girl she really bounces off of is Musa, and even then it mostly feels like Terra is following Musa around hoping for some love. None of her friendships really feel reciprocal. And her behavior with Stella is also weird as fuck. Like… you like it when she insults you? What?
Yeah she’s just weird and I don’t really like her. I feel like she brings nothing to the table. There is no real reason for her to be there. If they were going to try and replace Flora, they should’ve at least tried to make her cool and iconic.
From Hero to Zero (An Aisha Deep Dive/Rant)
Pffftttttt… okay let me get this straight. You took Aisha. Icon Aisha who climbed a fortress for her pixy friends, was a Princess that was pretty much a runaway and a sports goddess who challenged the boys and easily had the most depth/cool backstory from the Winx.
You took that Aisha… and gave us *checks notes* ‘Oh yeah, I flooded a hall in my school with literal shit once’ as her backstory.
Okay cool, I see how it is.
But seriously though. They made Aisha into an annoying teacher’s pet who kinda felt a little full of herself from time to time but was also constantly ignored as the voice of reason and had no arc of her own, instead acting as a therapist/scapegoat for the other girls.
Why is that? I think we all know the answer to that…
But yeah, I just… I am so tired. They reduced her to… to nothing really. She doesn’t feel interesting or compelling at all. I felt no connection to her and most of the time it felt like the other girls only spoke to her when they needed something from her.
In season 2 we get a little more about how she feels pressured by her parents to be perfect (which kinda alines with the cartoon) and she talks about not being experienced at relationships, which also makes sense with the cartoon, but it honestly still doesn’t feel like enough.
It still doesn’t feel like she’s actual friends with any of the girls.
They took away a lot… most of what made Aisha into one of the most well-developed Winx. She doesn’t feel fun like cartoon Aisha did, she’s uptight which just doesn’t make sense if she’s supposed to be Aisha.
She was just done dirty. Our Aisha was never so much as implied to be a teacher’s pet. She was more into dancing and sports and exploring.
Winx Aisha was a girl who’d been trapped most of her life, excited to finally get to be a a free soul and explore the world. Fate Aisha is stripped of all of that and we don’t really see why she’s so uptight outside of that one conversation about her parents where we still don’t get any real depth.
My girl deserved so much more and I will die pissed.
Why Sky Somehow was the Most Interesting One but Still Boring (A Sky Deep Dive)
Sky makes me feel conflicted. I think he (along with Musa) was the only one I genuienely liked and enjoyed watching but at the same time he annoys me.
I loved his dynamic with Silva but I just… I don’t even know how to describe what it is exactly that annoys me about him but he’s just not interesting enough. I’ve literally forgotten almost any scene that he is in.
I’m trying to remember right now and the only scenes I can remember are the mansplaining scene, when Bloom drugs him, when he comforts Stella, one or two scenes with Silva… and when he beats Dane’s ass… and that’s literally it.
He’s not that bad, he’s got interesting dynamics and a cool story behind him and with the revelations in the series, he is one of the most affected, so in paper that should get you to be invested but… he’s just not memorable.
Why Riven will Always Get the Short End of the Stick (A Riven Deep Dive/Rant)
One of the things that annoys me the most from the original Winx Club is how Riven is pretty much reset every season to learn the same lesson over and over and over again.
This is because his scene in the Cloud Tower dungeons when he sees himself as a monster and decides to change is one of my fave in the series and probably my fave scene in all of season 1. So having him be reset was just… such a disservice to that awesome scene and to his character as a whole.
I think we can all agree that Riven could’ve been such an amazing and iconic character if he’d been allowed to slowly grow and if we’d seen him mature over the seasons.
So in this aspect… a part of me really likes Fate Riven. He’s an absolute ass and a bit biphobic but I like the possibility of taking this and allowing him to grow after his whole mess with Beatrix (I kinda loved the chaos of their relationship up until they got Dane involved).
The set up is there and we really see him try to move on in season 2 which I love. He still has his moments of being an ass, but through a few conversations with Sky and his bond with Musa we do see him trying to grow.
However, I would’ve loved to see him be more vulnerable. Sometimes it feels like instead of his own character he’s there to bounce off of Bea, Sky or Musa. I don’t know I just feel like he has a lot of potential but for some reason he just doesn’t feel like a complete character to me. Maybe this would’ve been fixed in season 3 but we’ll never know.
All in all he was one of my fave parts of Fate, especially in season 2. Whether he would’ve been allowed to keep his progress unlike his cartoon counterpart, we’ll never know.
I feel like the more mature setting actually kinda fits Riven. Though I’ll be the first to admit that the writers occasionally tried too hard to maintain his ‘bad boy’ image in season 1 and I cringed a few times at his lines.
But he was one of my fave parts of season 2. So overall I’d say that, in a way, Fate actually improved Riven ever so slightly.
Bea Could’ve Saved the Show, BUT- (A Beatrix Rant)
So, I love Bea. She was my fave character in Fate, she’s just a chaotic gremlin and quite frankly she deserved better.
Her dynamics with Riven, Stella and Bloom were excellent. I love how manipulative she is, it makes her vulnerable moments all the better. When she goes to the Winx dorm crying to ask Stella to hang out but gets rejected and she just looks on at the group having fun like an outsider… That scene got me.
It’s a little confusing how she goes from menace in season 1 to kinda a teacher’s pet in season 2 but it kinda makes sense and she does become a menace again so it’s cool.
I both love and hate her ending. I love her constantly switching sides, being unpredictable, turning around last minute and going ‘I just saved the world, feels pretty great to be a fucking hero’, I love that concept but I hate her just being thrown away and killed like she hadn’t been carrying the show.
I don’t think they saw the amount of potential that Bea had, personally I would watch an entire show all about Bea. Them just killing her shows me that she was only really a plot device to the writers, a way to introduce her mysterious sisters. And I hate that.
Bea was the wildcard of Fate, the character plenty of us thought we’d hate but that ended up being a diamond in the rust. She was cunning and had the best of all the Trix, Darcy’s plot line with Riven and her manipulation, Stormy’s powers and chaotic energy, Icy’s ambition, personality and charisma.
Quite frankly, she’s probably the character with the most depth and motivations. She’s the most interesting.
And they killed her off for shock value.
I hate that we lost the Trix’s dynamic and different personalities but for me personally Bea was worth it, she was an awesome character who deserved to be in a better series. But yeah… I love Bea but even she wasn’t enough to save this shit show.
Why Flora Mattered (A Flora Deep Dive/Rant)
Disclaimer, I am very much biased here, even more than before cause Flora was always my favorite Winx. Now with that out of the way…
I think one of the reasons that Flora mattered so much is that she was never shamed for being very feminine. Flora was a cottage core, soft hearted, kind, soft spoken young girl who was still allowed to be strong and a badass. She was never made more ‘masculine’ to show her being strong. Her transformations always involved skirts and dresses, bright pinks, long flowy hair, bracelets and necklaces and cute tiaras.
She was never shamed for her girlieness nor stereotyped as someone overly shy. Flora could have a few shy moments but they were pretty rare in the large scheme of things.
She was shown to be incredibly smart, especially in seasons 1 and 2 with her love of potions. Flora gives the girls a lot of support and a safe place but we also see her be vulnerable and insecure, but she never changes her girliness nor does she feel the need to ‘grow out of her girly traits’ to gain confidence or confront her fears, she also doesn’t feel the need to ‘toughen up’ keeping her soft heart throughout the entire series.
I love this. I loved that Flora was so soft but never shamed or considered ‘weak’ for it. She mattered cause she was there for the more sensitive girls. The more introverted, soft spoken girls.
The girly girls that can still be just as strong and confident as any other woman despite loving pink and flowers and skirts.
I think that’s a big part of why Flora matters. She’s allowed to be a heroine with a soft heart that is never forced into an angsty personality because of the events that occur around her. She’s a special kind of softness. She’s not the kindness that comes from naivety but the kindness that is forged in steel from tough experiences.
We eventually got Fate Flora but I don’t think she really captured the essence of OG Flora, she just doesn’t feel like the soft, introverted, gentle soul we know.
She feels a little… full of herself? In a way?
I won’t talk much about Fate Flora cause I can’t truly put my finger on what it is that just throws me off about her.
But I’m pissed that they truly thought they could get away with tossing Flora to the side, cause we all know they only included her in season 2 to try and save their asses.
Because soft, sensitive girls deserve to see themselves represented without the whole ‘break-out-of-your-shell-and-become-more-wild arc’. Because soft girls can be complete and happy without becoming party animals. That was what Flora was to me. That’s why she mattered so much to me personally growing up.
That is why Flora mattered.
Why Helia and Timmy Mattered: A Retrospective Look at Soft Boys (A Helia and Timmy Deep Dive/Rant)
Now, I am honestly glad that Helia and Timmy weren’t included because they would’ve botched it.
So, I always adored Helia but, looking back on him and Timmy now I almost find them surprising that these two were incorporated into the show the way that they were.
Helia was the definition of a soft boy, he was into poetry and art, he wore loose shirts, had long hair, was soft spoken, loved to meditate and was introduced as a pacifist, but he was also a Specialist. Something I really liked was that instead of a sword he had his strings which incorporated his way of being a pacifist into his Specialist gear.
There were never jokes about him being Helia being gay and he was portrayed as attractive, the second Flora meets him she’s already blushing and giggling. Helia is a poet, a sensitive boy in a school filled with soldiers and warriors, but they rarely make fun of him for it, and when they do it clearly is meant to be in a teaseful way amongst friends. And we see the boys go to him for advise.
And then we have Timmy. Timmy is a nerd. He has a laser gun instead of a sword and is more of a pilot and tech guy. He’s shy and socially awkward, lanky, and his portrayl is very dorky.
In season 2 we see him doubt himself as a Specialist when he can’t stop the Trix, the same happens in season 4 when he is chasing Anagan.
But we see that at his core, Timmy is an incredibly courageous person. He goes after Anagan even when he’s doubting himself. The boys may tease him occasionally but they never treat him as an outsider and in fact try to help him, even when it backfires, it’s done from a desire to help their friend.
Timmy may consider himself as the weak one, but he is never portrayed as the weak link in the Specialists. We see that his role is a crutial one.
In season 3 we see him break down when he thinks that Tecna is dead, but his tears and despair are never considered to be ‘weak’ or ‘exaggerated’.
We see all the boys break down at the end of season 4.
And that is something important. Especially for a cartoon  in the 2010′s.
Seeing soft and dorky boys be portrayed as heroes was a great thing that we shouldn’t forget.
The Winx Club never revolved around the Specialists, they could’ve all been just the generic hero, but we see the small difference between Sky, Riven and Brandon and then we get Timmy and Helia who are completely different and not what you’d first think off when you think ‘heroes in training’.
This is an extension of Flora’s softness and kindness never being something that she is ashamed of or for.
Helia is allowed to be a poet and to love meditating and to be a bit of a pacifist whilst still being strong and a hero in his own right. Saving Flora in his introduction and Sky later in season 2. He is never shamed for being the sensitive one.
Timmy has a lot of self-doubt. But he is allowed to grow, he is allowed to be a nerd and dorky and socially awkward whilst still being a fundamental part of the group. His intelligence is portrayed as an advantage not a freak trait. He may be teased for being the nerdy one from time to time but he is never bullied or shamed for it.
And they are both allowed to have good love stories. Helia and Flora, two gentle souls that find each other and are like Snow on the Beach, falling for each other at the first time.
Then we have Timmy and Tecna, where it seems that Timmy falls first but doesn’t know how to act and Tecna always cares about him but seems to catch feelings a bit later on. That it takes them a long time to officially become something because they are both unconventional in their own way. And when they go on a date and feel stressed they decide ‘Screw doing this the traditional and ‘normal’ way, we’re doing it our own way’.
From what we see in Fate, I can tell they much prefer angsty characters. And Helia and Timmy would never have been allowed to be soft.
We saw 2 kinda soft boys in Fate. Dane who was just… a bit of a train wreck to me. He was an ass to Terra and was just super weird with Bea and Riven and was just willing to go along with whatever Bea said and then we have Sam who I wouldn’t exactly describe as a soft boy and well… he almost killed someone in season 2 so… yeah. He’s just boring and with zero depth to me.
If they’d been in Fate Helia would probably be emo or very angsty and Timmy would probably have been bullied a lot more. So I’m glad they weren’t included at all.
Because soft and sensitive boys shouldn’t be erased. They are important, especially when the stigma against them is still kinda strong.
We need this in the media, we need to see boys loving poetry and being proud to be a bit dorky and nerdy. We need to see boys crying and breaking down and not being ashamed or shamed for it. We need boys that are absolutely in love and not be teased for it.
Angsty boys can be fun to watch, but soft boys are also important. We need more of them.
The Forgotten Protectors (A Brandon and Nabu Rant)
When I think about it, I think that Brandon as a character, at his core, is a protector. He is Sky’s squire and is willing to trade places to keep him safe. He tries to keep Stella safe, is willing to risk his life to get Sky back in season 3 and well… he’s a Specialist so this is clearly what he loves.
Brandon was always a support character, he’s never really given a lot of backstory or traits outside of being a dedicated Specialist, being charismatic and sometimes flirty and caring deeply about his friends and Stella.
Brandon is a fun character not because of his depth but because he’s just a great guy. He’s charismatic, definitely an optimist and cracks jokes in the middle of a fight. When Timmy struggles over why Tecna is mad at him, Brandon is randomly punching the air and offers him hair product.
I would classify him as a himbo.
Brandon worked as this protector character, especially since not many of the Specialists had a lot of depth. And I always loved him,
So I’m glad he wasn’t in Fate cause, again, they would have erased his optimism and just, slightly goofy instances for an angstier attitude.
To me, Brandon’s main purpose in the show was to be a protector and a friend. He was the voice of reasons amongst the boys, especially in seasons 1 and 2. He’s there for his friends and would do anything for them.
I think Brandon could have perhaps benefitted from a more mature setting, mainly to get more depth but I think the Fate writers would’ve fucked it up. I don’t think they could handle having a non-angst, let alone an optimistic character.
Then we have Nabu, our second forgotten protector. I call him a protector mainly due to his sacrifice in season 4. All I have to say is… Nabu was a fun character. He was a bit weird in the beginning but we got to see he was calm, had extreme trust in Aisha.
We only had him for a season so I really don’t have much to say about him other than… I cannot see any iteration of Nabu working with Fate Aisha. I just don’t.
I can’t see either of them in Fate not just because they’d be fucked over but also just because I can’t see their characters fitting the ambience.
I don’t know why but to me Brandon and Nabu just emanate happy calm vibes and I can’t see that working with Fate’s desperate need for shitty angst.
Why Tecna is Often Discarded and Why She Shouldn’t Be (A Tecna Deep Dive/Rant)
I think most of us can agree that Tecna is neurodivergent coded. Most consider her to be autistic.
In the OG, Tecna rarely gets to be the center of attention, but when she does, man does she shine. I love Tecna because her arc throughout the seasons isn’t necessarily about changing to fit in, but it’s more about growing into yourself if that makes sense.
Tecna doesn’t change her personality or who she is, she doesn’t try to mask how she is. The only thing she really does is working on expressing her emotions and showing that she cares about her friends, but this doesn’t equal her changing or suppressing her quirks and more neurodivergent tendencies, which I think is just beautiful.
I think that’s a great example on how to write an autistic character growing into themselves (though I myself am not autistic so feel free to correct me on that if you have feelings about Tecna being seen as autistic),
In season 3, we see the way the club literally falls apart when they think she’s dead. We see that they love her and when Tecna reunites with Bloom in Omega, she is crying cause she knew that her friends would find her.
This is the moment that cemented for me that these girls would truly go to the end of the world for each other.
Those episodes in season 3 may be some of the best, and my favorites, in the entire series.
Tecna is the character that is underrated, and who some may believe doesn’t add much to the story, but when she’s gone it hits you like holy shit, in a way she is the glue of the group.
She may not always be the voice of reason but the girls know to always listen to her cause when she’s determined to figure something out, she will do just that. They know that they can count on her.
She is a pillar in the group, just as much as the other girls, even if the show doesn’t always give her a spotlight, we know that it’s true.
And… Fate just threw her out the window.
The fucking disrespect.
I personally think they just didn’t want to be bother with a complex character like Tecna.
I just… I hate that they couldn’t even be bothered to try while another part of me is glad that they didn’t ruin her with an angsty hacker take on her.
But my girl deserved better.
Anyways, on to the final section…
How Fate Failed To Capture the Essence of the Winx Club
How Fate Forgot the Most Important Aspect of the Winx Club: Friendship Amongst Young Women
The final section is something I’ve already touched on a bit but, in Fate, the girls aren’t friends. They barely feel like decent roommates.
I will never forgive the way they disregarded Stella and Bloom’s beautiful bond. They were each other’s person, they were bonded for life and truly they were just THE besties ya know?
And Fate just made them into competitors. There is not a single moment in the entire two seasons that they felt like friends, let alone besties. I cannot picture OG Bloom and Stella EVER acting like their Fate counterparts. Like my girls would rather die than do each other dirty like that.
Then we have Aisha. In the OG Aisha had 2 amazing bonds, Musa and Flora. We all know how big SonicWave is. Musa and Aisha immediately connected, they went clubbing and got into a bit of trouble together and Musa was the first to really understand Aisha’s backstory, and we see Musa trust Aisha with her boy problems.
Aisha and Flora feel like besties, they’re there for each other and have casual chats in the middle of the night.
With Stella, especially in season 4, Aisha and Stella can but heads from time to time but they know that their friendship will always prevail because all the girls are bonded for life.
None of that is present in Fate. In Fate when they butted heads I couldn’t care less. I just wanted to slap Stella because she was being a bitch and I was annoyed by Aisha. She doesn’t really interact with Musa and Terra isn’t Flora so it doesn’t work. And she and Bloom don’t feel like friends. Not really.
There is no Fate Tecna so we have no chance to get the amazing chemistry between Musa and Tecna, those two were perfect as besties, they just worked so well.
It’s just… so many amazing bonds and friendships and dynamics all thrown away for the sake of angst, drama and useless conflict.
The event that sets into motion the entire story of the Winx Club is Bloom running into Stella and choosing to help her. It’s Stella deciding to help this girl she just met get into Alfea because they just immediately bond and that’s who Stella is.
The very first time the girls hang out, when Bloom is attacked, the other girls don’t hesitate to join in on the fight to save Bloom, not necessarily because they’re close at this point but because all these girls would never just stand back when something like this is going on. But as their friendships and bonds grow, we quickly see that they are all ride or die.
They don’t fight over boys, if they tease or take things too far, they apologize. They may but heads and get into fights but they know (and we know) that their friendship will always prevail.
In Fate… they’re not even friends, let alone besties, let alone ride or die besties that would go to the ends of the world for each other.
All of those bonds and friendships are just… nonexistent .
How can Fate claim to be an adaptation of the Winx Club when they throw away the most important aspect of the show?
In the show, friendships always take center stage, romances always felt like sideplots or add ons, not the main drama, or they were rarely the main drama. And when romance was the main drama, there would be an inevitable scene of the girls comforting each other. (Stella comforting Bloom. Tecna, Bloom and Stella comforting Flora about Crystal. Musa letting out her frustrations about Riven with Aisha. The girls helping prepare Tecna for a date, etc.)
Friendship was the bloodline of Winx Club. And Fate somehow… missed that.
I’m too tired and frustrated to make an actual outro and I’ve been working on this for literal weeks so… that… is the end.

What are your tastes in media? (Music/TV/Film/Books)
Sorry for the late reply!
When it comes to TV/Film/Books (…any storytelling type of media in general) I really like a combination of horror/thriller and comedy. Especially dry humor, but not necessarily. I love a lot of raunchy and stupid stuff too. My favourite shows are probably South Park (rewatched this one 1000 times) and Parks and Rec (we don’t watch a lot of live-action (???) series though, and it’s been a while since we watched this one). Of course, these two aren’t really horrors/thrillers lol, but a good example of a thriller show that I love would be Hannibal. This one we also rewatched 100000 times, it’s honestly perfect: the story, the aesthetics, the gore, and of course of course the relationship between Hannibal and Will.
I wanted to say that I don’t really love stories that focus on romance, but then again, one of my favourite movies is Heathers, so I guess based on this + my love for Hannibal one might say that I do love romance, but a very specific type of it lol
In general, I tend to especially enjoy the ones that have a strong visual style and aesthetic, like The Shining, Parasite, Midsommar, Suspiria and stuff. But I don’t only watch horrors; Katsu (who is also a person that introduced me to horror in the first place) recommends me a lot of very good films.
I don’t read books very often (oof), but out of everything I’ve read over the past couple of years, the things that I liked the most were “Misery” (by King) and Lord of the Flies.
When it comes to music, I guess I don’t even listen to it very often either. I love soundtracks, I love anime music and vocaloid music (mostly old tracks that I’ve been listening to for years), sometimes I listen to stuff from musicals. One of my favourite bands, Sound Horizon, pretty much tells stories with their music, and I really love them for both this and their sound in general. Well, and of course things that Katsu and my friends send to me.
Hmm… I guess I love strong female vocals. I still love Evanescence very much + love Ado’s songs a lot.
I won’t talk much about my favourite anime and manga (I actually have written posts about it before; they are a bit old though), but I’ll say that a lot of things that we love is either seinen or some kind of BL-ish comedy lol
To help myself with this reply, I opened both MAL (for anime and manga, duh) and Letterboxd accounts, although my ratings there are a little bit over the place, so I couldn’t trust them...
There are moments when we watch or read something that is super out of our comport zone, and it’s usually a pretty interesting and refreshing experience, so even though all of my answers were pretty much “YES DARK STUFF TEEHEEHEE”, I’m not opposed to other stuff. I guess the most ultimate important thing that could make me love any type of media (as long as I have time to dive into it) would be the unapologetic self-indulgence that the author has for their work. Somehow it’s very easy to sense when you watch or read something. I really love experiencing media and just know that the author is having fun. I love passion projects where you can clearly see it is one for the author.
But this sounds a bit cheesy, I know lol

I just saw you reblog a post about Misha and Jared being overlooked for good acting vs Jensen. And I agreed with OP and your tags about Jared and Misha.
I think Misha had his areas of strength, but Casifer was more of a caricature or copy-cat of Mark P Lucifer, rather than Lucifer in Jimmy’s body (or Cass’ vessel). For example, Jared made Lucifer his own but there was still a tie to Mark’s version with his menace and condescension. I believe Misha can act, and there is one episode where I think he played lucifer well, but stopped really trying because Apocalypse Cass and The Empty Cass are frankly embarrassing.
Another point that was brought up is that some people overlook that Jared is good because they hate Sam or hate Jared, which I think is true but those peoples opinions aren’t valid because they have an agenda. But I also think it’s that Jensen/Dean are scene stealers and are often more animated, so the casual enjoyer is likely going to be drawn to him. Then he pulls out the emotion and it catches you because he’s usually fun. On the other hand Jared/Sam are more of a steady presence on SPN, most of the time, so it can be easier to not focus on him.
But what I’ve found on rewatches is that, while I initially was drawn to Dean and his expressive eyes, I’m now drawn more often to Sam and the nuances of what he’s doing, especially when he’s playing Not!Sam or Sick!Sam, but I still mostly love their scenes together most.
Though I think both actors have their strengths, I think Jared is truly stronger at physically embodying different characters, and Jensen often gets a stronger emotional response but I’d add a caveat to that because I’ve also noticed a difference in the quality of writing for emotional Sam lines vs emotional Dean lines at times, especially early seasons vs late seasons dialogue.
Anyway, sorry this got so long. I’m not even sure if you usually do asks. But I just had to comment because I find it so frustrating how a loud group praises Jensen skill and dumps on Jared when the truth is they and their characters are doing different things for different purposes, but both are good actors, and both have also had flat moments or over the top moments that have taken me out of the show once or twice.
[Reference]
The thing with Misha is he's pretty decent at getting into character with a gimmick.
Castiel is well known for his gravelly voice, because Misha thought about what would happen to a human vessel containing an angel, and then he stuck to the bit.
He is great at caricaturing Mark P's Lucifer, because he has some distinct facial expressions and line delivery. But, like I said in those tags, that wasn't the actual assignment. 🙃 And a big part of this is on Misha, because he could've given more thought to it; but it's also on the directors that allowed it. And I think a huge part of that might be how Mark P's face is a shorthand for Lucifer, and perhaps people forget that's just a vessel. So you end up with a Jimmy Novak vessel, comically contorting his face into Nick's features.🤨 I can't take it seriously; it's so uncomfortable to watch.
Apocalypse World Castiel is maybe even WORSE to me, because
1) how and why does he sound like that? Is Jimmy Novak German over there?? Or is that what CASTIEL sounds like, since our Castiel also doesn't sound like Jimmy Novak?
2) why would castiel even have the same vessel? I can give this a pass for the sake of the mind trip of seeing evil cas with the same face, but that brings up:
3) the FUCKING ACCENT is an honestly lazy shorthand for evil. Because he's not just doing a German accent, he's doing a Nazi Villain Accent like from a movie, complete with facial ticks. Someone else has a more in depth post on why it's Not Great to use German accents and Nazi caricature as a shorthand for evil, but I can't find it to link right now.
It bothers me so much.
The Empty doesn't bother me as much, except for the fact that once again Misha made a character choice that no one else depicting The Empty did. However, I'll give him a pass on it since his was the first.
_
Conversely, Jared puts a lot more thought into character motivation to create a nuanced PERSONA. He's not just "how can i make this one quirky in a new way?" He's getting into the character's head, and often switching between them. The way they carry themselves, the tone of voice while still being Sam/Jared's voice, the way he had Gadreel speak in iambic pentameter! The way you can see the difference when you pay attention.
And maybe I didn't appreciate it as much the first time, because I binged it ravenously rather than taking the time to think about any of the acting. So perhaps, like you said, Jensen/Dean's stronger emotional acting took the spotlight.
But with rewatching, I notice so much more about how Jared portrays different characters and learned so much about the care he puts into figuring out every character, I'm just constantly in awe.
I don't think Jensen's Michael was that bad, but it also didn't feel like Jared's Lucifer. Maybe part of that is that Jensen hadn't had to act anyone other than Dean as often as Jared had to act Not Sams.
J2 definitely each have different acting styles and strengths, and sure it's maybe not always perfect, but I love both. Though, I do have to admit, most of my reblogs and posts on the subject are just about Jared...lol. He's just amazing to me, maybe especially because Sam does get shafted to the background a lot, but when I look for him Jared is putting his all into Sam. If acting was still one of my personal interests, he would be a role model to me.

I want to know you bettah. A favourite character and ship for each Digiseason
Funny, Anon!!!!!! ~~~~~ I don’t really have defined opinions on the series that come after the first four, with the exception of Appmon and Ghost Game. So, sorry if I will skip those other three!
Adventure 01
• Mimi: My princess💕. Along with Katara from ATLA, she’s my own definition of what a girl character should be written like, but I don’t think you want to read long explanations😂.
• Michi: Mimi was a second mc by Taichi’s side. I feel like she had a mirror role in comparison with Taichi’s, as if she’s some sort of girl icon for the franchise. I don’t know how to explain it, but she has got so much presence in the anime, in the merch, in posters; she is voiced by AIM which allowed her to have her own ending, and somehow it feels like this fact makes her omnipresent in the history of the Digimon anime. Wishful thinking, but I like them together because of so many other reasons. THEY JUST CLICK SO WELL.
-Adventure 02
•Miyako: I know I know, she’s not that jewel of character when it comes to her writing, bur her concept has always intrigued me even when I didn’t know Digimon that well. She’s funny, clever, she’s connected with Mimi, she’s also got such a cute design ngl. Can I say she’s my favourite because of these shallow reasons? I think I will find many others when I rewatch 02.
• Daiyako: MY GUILTY PLEASURE. They’re so precious in each other’s regards, always being in the middle of teasing sessions but eventually showing to care about each other so much ? They can work platonically too, and I love pairings that are amazing both platonically and romantically.
-Tamers
KINDA HARD, I will admit it. I like the characters from Tamers but I don’t feel that connected to them. I used to have a huge adoration for Jenrya but it faded somehow. I like Ruki and Hirokazu but not that excessively. I relate to Juri sometimes but she has got so many moments that make me cringe out. It’s … A complex relationship…
• Takato: Again, I’m not THAT attached to him but he is a huge cinnamoroll and a great new beginning for the franchise. I like he’s so ordinary and creative, because…I can relate🤣. And I admit people often call me a girl Takato, sooooo🤣. Like you can see, I don’t have anything to say ahahahha.
• Rukato: MY BBIES, my bbies who are so pleasant at the sight too, thanks to their matching palettes. I confess I come from being a huge Jenruki shipper. Then, I’ve grown bored of those two and I’ve started getting so attracted by Ryouki and Rukato, but the latter eventually won especially because of Runaway Locomon. How could I keep myself from shipping those two after that film? I know there’s Jurato, but the future dramas made me dislike the way things develop…
-Frontier
• Junpei: my only prince son💕
• Junzumi.
.
SHOULD I REALLY SAY SOMETHING, C’MON🤣💕💕💕💕💕
- Appmon
• Eri: I like how she finally brought back a kind of digigirl who could be considered a real character with an interesting story, a nice and quirky personality, meaningful relationships. I had got tired of so many sexualized and pretty uninspiring digigirls (starting from Frontier era SIGH).
Eeeeh I don’t know. I liked Eri and Torajirou but I’ve discovered he’s 11 and she’s 14, so ehmmmmm. Even if the anime pushed it a bit, maybe it’s not the case to ship them ahaha.
I’ll go with • Haru x Yuujin because they are a parallel Jurato✨.
-Ghost Game
• Emma: I KNOW SHE IS NOT PART OF THE TRIO AND SHE APPEARED FOR LESS THAN AN EPISODE, but she ensnared me and makes me salty whenever I see her, because she would have been a perfect four member. Leave me alone, I need to cry and mope.
• Ruri x Kiyoshiro: The total flop this shipping was because in GG the kids had 0 interesting interactions and I want to cry again, because why is that anime so unfair. Still, I ship them, I don’t care. Ruri had her small teasing moments with Kiyoshiro and their personalities CLASH. Idk Ruri would take him to the worst night trips in forests, parks and he would tag along because Jellymon’s and Ruri’s personalities are so perfectly aligned!
Thank you for the ask!💕

Merlin Thoughts pt1
I’m just gonna copy and paste one of my notes app rants so that I can collect my thoughts.
I think I wrote this in June.
Alright. Rant here. So, I wanna start off by saying that I’m not here to start a ship war—as someone who is trying to claw my way out of this fandom/my obsession, it’s easier for me to fathom my issues with Merlin as a show if I talk my way through it. So here it is.
My biggest thing after thinking and talking and complaining and watching and reading, I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason I had such difficulty watching Arwen on the show was because it felt like 1) the relationship was overcompensating and 2) it felt like Arthur was cheating on Merlin. Now now now I know that the second point is purely subjective, but I want to break down why I felt that way. It honestly felt like it was hard to watch because I would have thought it was cute as hell and would have rooted for it and waited for their interactions—like I do with every show I watch cause I’m a nerd—I instead found myself doing that with Merthur, which for me is a sign that something has gone wrong with the relationship for me to be shipping a relationship that isn’t canon. Arwen would have been SO FUN for me to ship because they have so much cute content.
Like I rewatched the show for the first time, and like there’s an evil Gwen episode where they are just being SO AFFECTIONATE that I love it, but I can’t love it without feeling weird. I think it’s because I’d prefer watching it if it were Arthur and Merlin. Arwen, to give it credit, is cute and deafeningly affectionate, but it feels that there wouldn’t be so much discussion (literally 15 years worth) if the relationship were solid and Merthur was just a fan hallucination. The fact is—these claims to a relationship between Merlin and Arthur that is a step above friendship are sound. Because I think we can all collectively agree that Merlin and Arthur would have been in a relationship if one of them were a girl, so why is it different when Merlin is a man? We can’t hide behind the excuse of them not being sexually affectionate, when there was physical touching, EYE SEX, jealousy (The evil Gwen episode, Gwaine, Lancelot, hello???), trust, emotional dependency, and the fact that they both definitely loved each other.
It’s a beautiful friendship, no doubt about it, and I am not hating on people that think of it that way. I like that too! But I prefer them romantically because I think it works better that way. Also, those that say Arthur was actually jealous with Gwen, obviously. He loved Gwen too. But, I don’t think, at least not the way it is, that he loved her more.
Okay so current time anon here, I just read this after a while and I’m about to get SO ANGRY out of nowhere so just, idk, steel yourself and know that I don’t really feel this way anymore??? I still want to post it to stay true to the original emotions I had, but ngl I’m a little aggressive lol. Again. Again. Again. I love gwen (probs my favorite in seasons 1-3), love Arwen when I watch it and dispel thoughts of Merthur, but prefer merthur. So. here it is.
And, I’m sorry, I’m sick and tired of people saying that they “understand Merthur, but don’t think that the show opting for Arwen was heteronormativity.” It completely fucking was. Arthur and Gwen, for most people, came out of nowhere and the relationship was VERY sappy and it felt like they were screaming at us
“LOOK! see! THEY ARE IN THE SAME ROOM SO ARTHUR LOVES HER AND oh you don’t believe it???? WELL HERE LETS TAKE GWEN OUT OF THE ROOM AND HAVE HIM BRING HER UP????? oh you’re saying that he does that with Merlin too and more often and louder???????? THEN HERE LETS STICK SOME STUPID PROPHECY OR PREMONITION AND oh you’re saying that he has that with Merlin too, and that he is his destiny????? shit man that makes sense what do we do——LETS JUST SCORE SOME OVERLY ROMANTIC MUSIC AND PUT LIGHT ON ANGEL COULBY CAUSE SHE LOOKS MAGNIFICENT IN IT AND THEN HAVE ARTHUR MAKE HEART EYES ok I know he does that last bit with Merlin too BUT YOU DIDNT EXPECT THAT WED MAKE THEM KISS DID YOU??????oh you did cause that’s usually how shows tell you to ship a couple gotcha well your argument makes sense but sucks to be you but here take some queerbaiting and some overdone Arwen scenes and ooop let’s kill Arthur and byeee.
I’m mad yes.
Okay thats it. That’s the rant I wrote in my notes app. It’s funny to see how angry I got, but I think I’m better able to collect my thoughts now that I’ve gotten that out of the way. Don’t judge till I’ve posted that tomorrow!

Hi....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
hi it’s been a while! i love getting asks from you because it lets me ramble about my favourite things, it makes me so happy so thank you!!! i hope you know how much joy you bring <3
(i’m sorry i haven’t replied to your last top 10 ask, i started the list and it got so humiliating that i’m unable to look at it again.)
anyway “top 10 media” is a broad question, so i have picked the top 10 media i love to ramble about. the kind where i could talk for hours about each one. are these objectively my favourites? maybe not. are they even good? only like half of them. but they certainly are top. enjoy!!
top 10 media of all time (not ranked):
1. tgcf (novel)
its still too early to say if this is a permanent top 10, but it has consumed my life for the better part of a year so it gets on this list. i have difficulty describing tgcf, it’s not particularly an excellent novel by many metrics, but it gives me endless satisfaction — the breadth of the story, spanning hundreds of years and a broad range of plotlines, plus the incredible depth of each moment, with sensitivity and humanity behind every hilarious-ridiculous-bombastic moment. i keep finding new things with every new chapter i annotate, even on my 4th/5th read. it’s rare that a piece of media gives me so much to think about, i’m just trying to savour the enjoyment for as long as it lasts.
2. the untamed/陈情令 (tv show)
oh man what can i say about the untamed. what can i NOT say about the untamed. the show i resisted for two years before finally being pushed into it. and i have been hurtling down the danmei rabbit hole ever since. for all that it was my intro to danmei and into the modern cdrama fandom, it really is SO MUCH just on its own. i daresay no tv show will ever be able to deliver such pure insanity juice straight to my brain ever again. deserves its spot. show of all time.
3. fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood (anime + manga)
i was a weeb for YEARS. consumed hundreds if not thousands of episodes of anime and manga. and this is the only one that stuck. obviously a masterpiece of storytelling. i revisit this constantly. i love stories that can be grim but still hopeful and endlessly sincere. also if you can’t tell i’m a huge sucker for stories where the side characters clearly have their own histories and relationships outside of what we get to see, and fmab has that for ages.
4. the legend of korra (tv show)
i cannot in good conscience say that i like this show. if you asked for my opinion, i would complain in your ear for an hour straight, minimum. (i have done this. multiple times. don’t ask me about the legend of korra.) and yet it is the piece of media i think about the most, that i have dedicated the most of my writing to, that i rewatch most often. lok aired when i was 13-17 and i grew up with it on tumblr. the people i followed and the things they talked about shaped how i interact with fandom today. maybe one day i will be able to move on, but this one has a sure spot in my top 10.
5. sense8 (tv show)
this one i can wholeheartedly recommend to any queer person trying to grow up in the world. yes, the orgies are gratuitous, the first season has some 2014 cliches, and overall who cares about the plot. but it’s such an unabashed expression of queer joy and unconditional love. there’s something so comforting in the idea that other people will volunteer to share your pain, your happiness, and your loneliness. that everyone in the world is connected by their ability to feel, to laugh, to scream, to cry, to love— you are only as alone as you let yourself be. this show carried me through so many dark times and helped me to keep believing in people. maybe i’ve outgrown my need for this show now, but i will always love sense8.
6. my ajusshi/my mister (kdrama)
is it one of the best kdramas ever made? yes. am i also incredibly biased because it’s IU? also yes. i strongly recommend it if you have the patience. this drama is slow and melancholy and washed out, its characters are weary and cynical and not always kind to each other. but that is precisely the point, because the drama dusts off their dull, exhausted lives and finds within them something worth living for. sometimes it’s enough to know that you have the power to make someone else’s life better. you might have lost the love of your life, but you have a spare mattress in your bedroom for a scared, lonely girl to sleep on. you might have lost your marriage, but you have enough money to pay for an old woman’s funeral. your career might be going nowhere, but you can be the cheerleader and inspiration for a silly woman that loves you. you might be a gang of sad, broke, middle-aged failures, but you can all walk a young woman home together and make her night a little less dark. my ajusshi is not an easy drama to watch, but similar to sense8, it’s one that gives me hope.
7. the k2 (kdrama)
firmly convinced that tumblr is sleeping on this drama. it is so absolutely batshit feral unhinged. let women be a mess!!! let women be so wrong!!! let women scheme and threaten and fight and manipulate, while the man looks on with protective anxiety and/or dead-eyed absolute competency. let a woman run barefoot through the streets of spain in a nightgown, tears streaming down her face. let a woman past her prime be psychosexually obsessed with her stepdaughter’s bodyguard whom she is locked in a blackmail revenge plot with. let him lead her at gunpoint into a car so he can escape the standoff, only for it to become a car chase with her enemies, and for him to flip the vehicle over. let him walk back into the burning car to carry her out.
8. man of steel (movie)
not gonna lie haven’t rewatched those one in a while! but officially my #1 favourite movie if anyone asks. i have moved on from capeshit but this movie still has everything i love: a world that breathes, people that live in it, and a clear message of hope despite how bleak things might seem.
9. rogue one (movie)
i mean. i mean. it says something that i was working on my (planned out, the story exists fully formed in my head) tgcf rogue one au when i opened up my writing notes and found that at some point last year i had written an entire mdzs rogue one au. brilliant. unparalleled. so blessed that this movie got to exist in between the endless cash grabs that are the other movies. as a star wars fan since age 13, i can say with full assurance this is the only star war that matters actually.
10. the infernal devices (novel series)
not sure if i’ve mentioned this series on this blog before, but to this day it’s one of my favourite YA series. yes it is your standard cliche fantasy series but it has will herondale, the best payoff to the typical angsty brooding male lead to ever exist. writers try to justify brooding characters like “they have valid reasons to be that way, deep down they’re really loving blah blah” but this series takes that and delivers. because the moment will is free from the legitimate reason he was acting that way, he is bursting at the seams to show his love. he runs to the girl he loves and tells her he loves her. he tells the woman who raised him that she’s awesome. he spends the rest of his life so, so incandescently happy, simply because he gets to love the people he loves. also the ending of the second book is possibly one of the wildest cliffhangers for a love triangle ever. i clearly love to have an Experience while consuming a piece of media.
(if you’ve read til here, thank you for reading and letting me ramble some of the words that go through my brain endlessly. if you’ve ever consumed and enjoyed any of the things i’ve mentioned, please feel absolutely welcome to message or dm me, i am dead serious about being able to talk about these for hours. in fact i would love to. please)

livvv, sorry if this is a bit silly but just wondering why you put ‘tw’ in front of certain tags. like in a recent post, you’d tagged it with ‘tw naruto’. again im sorry if this is simple tumblr culture, im still a bit newish here 😅
Tw generally stands for trigger warning and is often used ahead of tags that can be sensitizing!! (Cw stands for content warning I think, so you’ll often see the two used interchangeably)
I try and tag any posts I’m making abt my naruto rewatch tw naruto bc someone told me they don’t want to see any posts about it on their dash!! and because frankly this show is sensitizing content if I’ve ever seen it

Ranking Pinocchio Adaptations Part 2
Hello! Disney’s horrible cgi Pinocchio is due to release soon and I promised myself that I would finish this ranking before it does...
Anyway, this is part two of me ranking the 22 Pinocchio Adaptations that I’ve seen. You can find part one here.
This ranking is in order of worst to best. Therefore, this part includes all the middling rankings.
(Obviously spoilers for every adaptation listed).
Numbers 15 to 8. Mixed/Mediocre/Good but not great
15. ‘Pinocchio: The Series’ (1972) by Saban
Tumblr media
Wanna see someone beat the shit out of Pinocchio? This is the adaptation for you.
I mean, seriously, Collodi might have burned Pinocchio’s feet off, hanged him from a tree, chained him to a doghouse and turned him into a donkey, but even all of that pales in comparison when you start watching this. I swear, they beat the crap out of this kid every, single episode. And, if they’re not physically abusing him, the other characters are bullying him and making fun of him.
This series is long and very, very strange. I’ll confess that, whilst I have technically sat through all 52 episodes, after a while I did mostly put it on to nap (and every now and then I would wake up to the shrill yelling of Pinocchio, never knowing if he was being attacked or having fun).
Anyway, there’s a lot going on in this series. Witches, mermaids, kings & queens, talking animals that only Pinocchio can understand (which is something I do quite like). But what’s probably most noteworthy is Pinocchio’s own characterisation. Because this kid is a complete brat. Sometimes to the point where you kind of want him to get some comeuppance because he’s so whiny and mean spirited at times. AND YET, on the flipside of that, when he does get punished for his actions it’s...way too much. And you start to feel so sorry for him again because he’s being burned at the stake or beaten and dragged across the floor (and, ofc, the Fairy only ever appears to help him out well after he’s learnt his lesson).
This series is bizarre. There’s one particularly notorious episode in which Pinocchio throws a rock at this kid that had been bullying him, accidentally knocking the boy into a river. The boy can’t swim and, after some deliberation, Pinocchio jumps in to save him. But he fails. The kid drowns and Pinocchio spends the rest of the episode trying to make it up to the boys mother, including  substituting himself in place of her son and allowing her to take care of him and play mother to him. THIS IS A WEIRD SERIES, OKAY.
Anyway, this show has some fun elements and it is so damn wild all the time that it’s often impossible to look away but mostly? it’s pretty average in terms of quality and not something to be binged. Rather, a show to catch an episode of every now and then and go ‘hey what the fuck did I just watch?’ at the end of it.
14. ‘Pinocchio’ Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child (1997)
Tumblr media
Okay but this is a very cute adaptation. As stated at the beginning, part 2 of this ranking is for both ‘mixed’ adaptations and adaptations that are ‘good but not great’. This falls into the latter of those.
The basic plot of the episode is essentially just the Disney movie but extremely trimmed down (since this is only half an hour long). It features Will Smith as Pinocchio and Chris Rock as the termite, which is absolutely bizarre (especially in light of recent events)
Idk it’s not very long and (like half of these movies) you can find it on youtube pretty easily if you do wanna give it a watch. Oh and also? The Blue Fairy becomes the ‘Blues Fairy’ in this which is SO fun. It’s not particularly captivating and tbh I wouldn’t feel the need to rewatch it for a long while yet, if at all, but the representation is really nice to see and there are one or two interesting little ideas.
13. ‘Pinocchio’s Christmas’ (1980) Rankin/Bass
Tumblr media
I’m such a sucker for stop frame animation...
PLEASE his design is so sweet!!! And the animation is just beautiful, truly. Really lovely to look at and I love the designs for Pinocchio, the Cat and the Fairy in particular.
The story is sort of a mash up of the original book + the Disney movie + ...Christmas? And also they give him a love interest for some reason (which apparently ‘Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night’ stole seven years later, when they also tried to give him a blonde puppet love interest.
The songs are fun and pretty catchy tbh although I will say that ‘Let ‘em Laugh’ is a blatant rip off of Singin’ in the Rain’s ‘Make ‘em Laugh’.
I know that this movie is a huge classic for a lot of people but its an adaptation that I didn’t watch until very recently so I guess I don’t have the same nostalgia for it. It’s a really nice little movie, for sure, but I can’t rank it much higher because it was kind of just...okay. Good, but not great.
12. ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’ (1972) Dir. Giuliano Cenci & Jesse Vogel
Tumblr media
There’s something so terribly enchanting about this puppet and I don’t know what it is.
This is an adaptation that’s extremely faithful to the book which is fun although maybe to it’s detriment at times. I like this movie, I like this Pinocchio especially. He’s a sweet boy and also a little shit and I love his design and the way he talks. His design is pretty obviously inspired by by Attilio Mussino’s illustrations (see below, right) and I very much love and appreciate that.
Tumblr media
The animation is mostly really lovely (although rip Lampwick, the ugliest bitch in this movie) and overall I think it’s nice to look at.
I guess the reason I can’t rank this movie too high on the list is that it’s just a little flat. If you want to watch an accurate adaptation of the book in an animated movie format, then I would absolutely recommend this.  However, because it IS so book accurate, it does drag a little bit here and there and there’s nothing new or interesting in it to make it stand out or give it any decent rewatch value.
However, the ‘hammer throw scene’ (aka, the scene in which he throws a hammer at the cricket and kills the little bastard) is extremely funny and easily one of my favourite takes on that particular moment from the book.
11. ‘Pinocchio’ (2002) Dir. Roberto Benigni
Tumblr media
I have no idea what to do with this movie so I’m sticking it here.
It’s just...It’s such a weird movie but also....it’s not as bad as you might expect it to be. Because, yes Pinocchio is played by 50 year old Roberto Benigni and the Fairy is played by his wife. Which is...Weird, guys. It’s weird.
But there’s also clearly a lot of love poured into this project and once you immerse yourself in the movie, you’re able to enjoy it for the odd little movie that it is.
Also, Pinocchio and Lampwick (sorry. I mean ‘Leonardo’) share a tangerine lollipop in literally the gayest scene in any Pinocchio movie so like?? good for them
This is also the only adaptation I’ve ever seen that actually bothers to include my fave guy Eugene (left, below).
Tumblr media
(For those unaware, Eugene is a character in the novel that gets hit in the face with a textbook and knocked unconscious. He’s only in one chapter and is never seen again. I love him dearly.)
10. ‘Pinocchio’ (2012) Dir. Enzo D'Alò
Tumblr media
You know...I really, really WANT to like this adaptation more than I actually do.
The visuals are GORGEOUS. The character designs are just beautiful. The songs are not especially memorable but they’re very sweet and enjoyable enough as you’re watching (the doctors rap is a BOP).
And yet? It’s just lacking something for and I’m not sure what.
The movie is pretty faithful to the book, even including some of its more obscure elements (such as a passing allusion to the snake that appears in one chapter, the eating the pears ect) whilst still putting its own original spin on certain areas (the almost psychedelic circus-like designs of the land of toys particularly stand out to me).  Also, the Fairy is exclusively a child throughout and that really works in this version.
This is a really cute movie. Pinocchio has a good balance of being a sweet lil guy and also being...kind of an obnoxious brat. It’s just...not quite there for me. But I would definitely recommend that any Pinocchio fan watches this movie at least once, if only for the stunning visual designs.
9.  ‘Pinocchio’ (1940) Disney
Tumblr media
Some people will probably tell me this should be much higher on the list...some will tell me it should be much lower. But LMAO I have extremely mixed feelings about this movie so it’s going right in the middle.
Disney’s Pinocchio, in my opinion, is a great movie in its own right. Pinocchio is BABY and very likeable because of that. The soundtrack is really wonderful + always fits perfectly with it’s accompanied scene. The animation is incredible and still holds up today, 80 years later. It also has one of my favourite adaptations of the Cat and the Fox, two villains that I often find extremely tedious in other versions. Not to mention, the donkey transformation sequence is one of my faves because DAMN it’s absolutely chilling. The use of the focusing on Lampwick’s shadow on the wall is just so, so clever.
Oh, and Figaro (beloved). Best addition to any Pinocchio movie.
But of course it’s also got it’s cons. Stromboli for starters, whom of which I don’t really want to dwell on but...yeah. Jiminy is a useless little prat and does nothing but flirt with the Blue Fairy and oogle inanimate puppet women. I hate him so much. Geppetto doESN’T EVEN WALK HIM TO SCHOOL???????
But I guess what really gets under my skin when it comes to Disney’s Pinocchio, is just how far removed Pinocchio is from his book!self. Disney’s Pinocchio is a sweet baby boy and that’s...nice, right? Very charming. But Pinocchio (despite the fact that he can be genuinely sweet and kind) isn’t meant to be like that. Not ALL the time. So when these bad things happen to Disney’s Pinocchio, it doesn’t really make any sense narratively speaking. He doesn’t get the opportunity to make bad decisions on purpose, suffer the consequences (even if said consequences are unnecessarily cruel in most adaptations) and learn from those actions. Instead, the poor decisions he makes are born only of naivety, and he’s constantly manipulated into EVERYTHING and it’s just...not right. Walt was so terrified of making him unlikable that he ended up stripping away so much of Pinocchio’s original personality and ngl it kind of hacks me off a bit.
Also, Disney’s Pinocchio never got the opportunity to be...different. In the book he’s treated almost as sub-human. He’s beaten and used by various characters constantly throughout because ‘he’s a puppet and therefore it’s fine’ (and I have MANY feelings about this sentiment). The second he arrives at school he’s bullied because he’s not like the rest of them. (And yes, okay, there are moments like this in the Disney movie (the most prominent being when Stromboli threatens to turn him into firewood) but Stromboli is a VILLAIN). He was never treated badly by his peers and so?? Why does he even WANT to be a real boy here? There’s just no real motivation outside of ‘the Blue Fairy told me I should be a real boy’, something she told him from after the second he was born.
10/10 WILL watch again. It’s a good movie, no doubt. But there’s something...missing...Something kind of...off... and THAT is why it doesn’t make my top 7.
8. ‘Pinocchio and Friends’ (2021)
Tumblr media
‘Pinocchio and Friends’ has SO much heart and love and care put into it and the ONLY reason it doesn’t rank higher is because it’s a show that is explicitly for very small children and therefore some of the episodes can be a bit tedious/ overly simplistic.
Anyway, this show is SO good. Every single main character is a character from the book (including more obscure characters like Medoro the dog and the Snail maid) with the exception of the pirate doll Freeda (but she’s a great addition and an excellent companion for Pinocchio to go on adventures with). There are so many little references to book material and it’s extremely evident that the creators are passionate about what they’re doing.
And Pinocchio’s design is so cute (I love his paper hat)!! And the Cricket is actually funny in this!! And the Fairy is ALSO hilarious and gives off ‘weird aunt’ vibes!! And Master Cherry looks like THIS:
Tumblr media
This show is so genuinely funny and the character designs are so unique and SO good and I have a LOT of love for it I really do. I can’t wait for the rest of the episodes to finally be released <3

Day 6 of Unitober is Richard, so let’s talk about him.
Tumblr media
Richard, to me, is another very interesting character. When I think about the Unigang being in a band, I see him being on bass, probably because of his deep voice. I still ship him with that girl brick we saw in Crushing Defeat, who in the Big Bright World AU is named Irene. Just like Dr. Fox, I’ve thought up some ideas for what Rick’s past was like because I’m truly curious to know. (“My journey through life has always been difficult…”) Not only that, but I also feel sorry for him.
Like, really. I do. The first couple of times I saw Film Fest, his film really caught my attention. “Really makes you think, doesn’t it?” Yes. Yes it does.
Rewatching his film, I’m thinking back to a YouTube comment I once saw that I unfortunately can’t see anymore because the video it was on was marked as “for kids.” The comment analyzed his film, explaining that Richard’s work is pretty much his life. No one can really understand how he feels about it because they usually don’t acknowledge him (“I am surrounded, but I am alone. They see me, but do they SEE me?”). Day by day, he’s carrying the entire castle on his nonexistent shoulders.
Though he’s a friend to Unikitty and the gang, there are moments in the show when he’s pushed aside, not taken seriously, or left in the dark unseen. There are quotes that show this, such as in Laser Tag: “Now I look as invisible as I feel.”
This is the kind of impression I’ve gotten from Richard’s character, and it’s why I feel bad for him. I see him as a character who’s often forgotten about and pushed aside because of how “boring” he is. He’s unnoticed, like he’s a gray brick in a gray brick wall. It’s kind of sad because he does so much for Unikitty and the gang.
Richard deserves better. I’m happy that the other Unigang members are truly grateful to have him around.

Transformers: Cyberverse Review (2/2)
So I finally watched cyberverse and figured I'd kill two birds with one stone and do my review while I was at it instead of having to rewatch it later. This ended up being so much longer than I expected and I tried to look back over it to the best of my ability but I wrote these directly after finishing each season so at some very odd hours of the day if anything is worded weirdly sorry about that. Please keep in mind this is my opinion and you might not agree:) Season 3:
Lemme start this off by saying I was so excited to see G1-Esque Laserbeak again but the absolute BUTCHERING of my boy drifts character. I was so sad dude, let him have his redemption arc:( plus Hot Rod, Cheetor, and Shockwave dying?! Not even right. I also lied because episode 5 of this season is the most confusing thing I’ve ever seen. I am so completely lost. How is Hot Rod back? What is even happening? Is that squid thing a Quintessons? Two of which were partially answered. Next episode we find out what happened with Hot Rod and you’ll notice one great detail here that was missing from season 2 THEY EXPLAIN WHAT WAS GOING ON.
So far the pacing feels a lot better even if the random time skip is a bit odd, BUT WIRL IS HERE AND HE’S GREAT. STUNTICONS well Stunticon, Dead End is great, I love his design even though I had no idea it was him at first. I don’t know if Hot Rod's voice actor had a cold or something while they were recording this but he was just constantly whispering and it made it so hard to take him seriously bc he’d be yelling somebodies name and it just sounded so flat. I didn’t think I’d like Perceptor at first but I ended up liking him a lot, Soundwave as always was great. I figure I’ll have a soft spot for this version for a long time, now if they’d just let him have all his cassettes back.
As of episode 12, Skywarp has been name-dropped once, and while I think I know which one she is she hasn’t been introduced yet and I’m on my hands and knees absolutely begging rn PLEASE let us have Skywarp. SPOILER ALERT SHE NEVER SAYS ANYTHING. I am devastated, Skywarp has got to be one of my favorite characters so every time I hear his name mentioned anywhere near a show or movie I get straight giddy bc we see Skywarp less than TC which honestly is a feat so you can imagine how sad I was when after being name-dropped AS THE COMMANDER she doesn’t get a single voice line. Finally, get TC and Warp and have them ripped away. L. In other news, have I mentioned that Starscream’s upgrades are the goofiest yet? Because they are. Judge Starscream has got to be the single worst thing to come out of any piece of transformers media like ever.
When I tell you I gasped when Megatron admitted he mistreated Starscream, never in a million years did I see that coming. I mean part of it is that Screamer got power-hungry, that his ambitions were too large, that he went a little crazy along the way, but part of it was that he was hurt. Does that excuse him deciding his entire world needed to be destroyed? No definitely not. I feel a character study coming along, but this isn’t the time or place so instead, I’LL TELL YOU HOW HYPED I WAS TO SEE ASTROTRAIN AND THE INSECTICONS. Hey, I’ll let you guess which faction is my favorite lol. The rest of this season is straight goofy and it’s mostly filler. Wild Wild Wheel, in particular, is one I want to touch on. It’s surprising how often the media does this but, as hurt as I know I’d be if I was left behind by my team I feel like you’d also have to realize well it’s war and casualties are in abundance. Someone goes missing and you usually have to assume they’re dead.  The last episode was a bit weird but it was alright. In the end, this season wasn't bad at all but I do wish they'd cut it off at episode 18 and said the rest was season 4 or something. 7/10
Season 4:
This season was weird and I loved it and hated it. The first episode was great but the second one dude I’m so sad. I wish Astrotrain had more screen time I feel like he could have been a super cool character but alas he’s the 207th Decepticon gone. They killed the entirety of high command I was clinging to Soundwave and they VAPORIZED HIM. The way he went out was so sick but man you could have let us have at least one.
Now to the actual review part. I loved the Dinobots it was a different take on their story and I liked it. Letting them be an actual combiner was cool but Soundblaster destroying literal planets over a beatbox competition is the funniest thing I’ve ever witnessed in my life. The story flowed pretty well honestly, though I almost immediately knew what they were doing when Tarn showed up. The look my mom gave when I screamed “IS THAT TARN?!” was great but I did NOT expect the Megatron bashing they had him do lol. It’s a little hard to compare this season with the others because it's so different but I liked it, it was enjoyable. 6.5/10

How my system works:
When I do these reviews I base them on a couple of things 1.) What made it different 2.) How enjoyable is it 3.) How’s the plot, pacing, character designs, etc? So while I might really like a character there’s still a chance I’ll dock points because they didn’t just create a new character altogether instead of just stealing a name.
What makes it different?
Most of the changes they made were good. I loved 90% of the design changes, I even really liked the way they used the plot and what we already know from the original story. As confusing as our initial time skip is, it's not hard to fill in the blanks with any other continuities time on earth. So we skip the stuff we already know and instead get new stuff, which kept me interested! However, this part could have been really hard to understand for new viewers. Their approach to the Quintessons was a tad weird but it worked so I’m not complaining. 7.5/10
How enjoyable is it?
It was pretty good. I liked it and despite them killing off half the characters I liked I never felt like throwing my phone down and not watching anymore. It kept me interested and for the most part, it wasn't way too easy to guess exactly what was gonna happen. The number of characters they’d name-drop just to never use physically hurt me and sometimes I’d get frustrated with how they used certain characters or how they set something up or their weird time skips but so I’d pause it, get up to grab some water or something and get right back to it. Which for me is pretty good. 6.5/10
How’s the plot?
Despite the plotholes, the plot was good. They made it different but close enough I’d still be able to tell it's Transformers if they took away the name. Sometimes the way they won *cough* cybertroniansunitething *cough* was odd but all in all, it's fine. I thought the parade loop was creative and interesting to watch. The apocalypse part was honestly my favorite but I wish Hot Rod's frustration led to something. You win some you lose some ig. 6.5/10
How was the pacing?
The pacing was ok in most episodes. (I’m looking at you Sea of Tranquility) They managed to bring back the absolute mess I feared season 2 would be so I’m giving them points for that. Again the time skips can be weird but close to every episode BUT SEA OF TRANQUILITY THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE did a pretty good job closing up those gaps for us. 6/10
How were the character designs?
I’ve already partially touched on this but it usually needs its own section so without further ado. Two-thirds of Starscream’s upgrades are the worst, most terrible horrifying things and I hate them with a burning passion. His original design however I liked and his voice actor did a great job. I liked almost everyone's designs until the Allspark got involved EXCEPT FOR JETFIRE whose design was just ok. I’m just kinda sad he wasn’t our gentle giant. That and he was really annoying, sorry anybody who liked him. 8/10
Overall: I think I have more conflicting feelings over this show than I do Micheal Bay's first TMNT movie, except its none of the low expectations or nostalgia and all mild confusion. This show is… weird, it was interesting and enjoyable despite Hasbro's never-ending fear of new characters. They took an old premise and made it new even if I can never forgive them for Judge Starscream, they kept the character designs reminiscent of G1 but still kept them fresh and I really liked it. I wish they used the Titans and Insecticons more or expanded on the multiverse part and it could have been interesting to see some of the other combiners. They might have had plans to use some of that before the show got canceled but we’ll never know.
Overall score: 6/10

Rewatching Bedtime Stories
Welcome to “The Brothers Get Grimm with Each Other: A Supernatural Rewatch Blog” with Lor and Mace!
 Up today, s3e5: Bedtime Stories
People are dying weird in a small town. It takes our boys a minute to realize it, but the deaths all mimic fairy tales. What seems to be the ghost of a little girl appears at the scenes of the deaths, and that doesn’t track. Until Sam and Dean discover a young woman who has been in a coma since she was a child—and whose father has been reading her fairy tales all these years. Her spirit is trapped and restless because her step-mother poisoned her years ago. The boys have to convince her father to listen to her spirit and let her go to stop the grim deaths. Meanwhile, Sam has been hounding Dean about his refusal to try to find a way out of his demon deal, and the end of the episode sees Sam sneaking off to try to force the crossroads demon to give up Dean’s contract. Sam learns that she’s not the one holding his deal, and Sam shoots her with the Colt (and thus killing the woman she’s possessing as well). Should we be worried about him?
Below is a log of our real-time reactions as we watched. Remember that there may be spoilers for any part of SPN’s 15-season run here. Note also that the nature of our conversation is adult and thus it may contain adult language and themes.

 Mace:

 Lor:

 Lor:

  [after the episode ended:]
 Mace:
so i love the balance between Dean not thinking he deserves to be saved and Sam fighting against this deal not because he doesn’t think HE deserves to live but because he doesn’t think it’s fair that Dean has to die. Another sign of Dean being raised by John and Sam being raised by Dean
 Lor:
YES

MCALPINE SESSIONS ANON HERE, FRIEND!!! I HAVEN'T ABANDONED YOU!!!! ❤️❤️ Life is just a bitch and I've been honestly working on some writing of my own 👀 Plus being an adult means bills which means money which means working......'tis a lot. But trust and believe, I am watching your space every so often and am still patiently awaiting any news you could give. 😊 Also, just because your blog is pleasing to look at lol. Hope you're well, lovely!
AAAAAAA MY FRIEND!!! i just came back from a mini tumblr hiatus to see ur ask at the top of my notifs and i truly feel like i’m receiving a long awaited missive from my love at the front (lol stevebucky vibes) or an age old friend in a jane austen novel LMAO that is to say IM SO HAPPY TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN!!!!! i’m sorry life is a bitch :((( bills suck and as someone currently unemployed i respect the hustle! congrats on your own writing!!! i would love to know more about it and share in uplifting u just as much as ur excitement for tms uplifts me <333 i hope you’re well also and you’ll be pleased to know i’ve made plans for two more portions of the series, at the beginning, one which will be set during/between the events of catfa as a prequel/flashback of sorts and one which will take place during catws to give us a little more samsteve ;) i was also possessed with the urge to write an entirely new scene untethered to any of the other vignettes i had outlined so im not sure where exactly it’ll go but i’m excited!!! once i’m settled into my new apartment and job i think i’m going to do a cap trio rewatch to polish up my memory of the canon and then finally get to work on setting more of my ideas down, so expect more updates within the next few months for sure if not sooner :) im trying to keep this one quick by doing a lot of time skips and not forcing myself to take on another massive wip project lol so once it’s beta-d i’ll likely have it up right away! 🤡 lots of love, anon x
here! i give u sneak peak at the random scene:
“Hey, how come you can help Sam make the gumbo and I have to just sit here and watch?”
Bucky snorts, reaching back a hand to grab the roux Sam’s holding. “You can’t cook for shit, Stevie. And that’s okay.”
“That’s offensive! I make a damn near excellent soda bread and it tastes just as good as my ma’s.”
“Yeah, and why d’ya think that was the first and only thing she showed you how to make? Sarah Rogers knew if she went any further than bread, her son would burn down the whole freakin’ tenement.”
Steve stares at the curves of Bucky’s back as he stirs, and licks his lips. “Come over here and say that to my face, Barnes.”
Bucky sidles up to him, brings their faces close enough to almost touch. “I’m saying you’re a tragic case of arson waiting to happen, Rogers. And you can’t be trusted with something as important as Sam’s jambalaya.”
Steve raises one eyebrow. “So what I’m hearing is you think I’m hot?”
Bucky chokes on a soft laugh. “That was even worse than your cooking.”
“Then it’s a good thing you’re the chef.”
“Yeah, so shaddup and let me cook.”
