nerd plug! eren brainrot
cw : chubby r, nerd eren ( he’s a two faced cunt ) drug useage n smoke, small thigh/lap riding, fingering , sex with glasses on, tiny cockwarming, dirty talk, praising, creampie, shotgunning, small mention of r bein girly, ( i write w black r in mind ) not proofread might be some spelling errors i’m tired mdni
Tumblr media
eren would be seen as an innocent, quiet boy who doesn’t care about his surroundings - only mindful to his little bubble. he’s passing all his classes, always at the library studying for upcoming exams and just being the sweet boy he is. and you’d watch from afar a few feet away from him. he’s cute and quiet. you felt bad at how he would chase after some girl who didn’t want anything to do with him. you envied him too - how he would get praised and congratulated for everything he does. the only time he ever talked to you was during a project for chemistry. he paid no mind to you always mumbling how you’re a distraction to him and you should quiet down. he wanted nothing to do with you. you, your glossy lips, those pretty lashes you keep batting at him, your perky boobs that try to escape from the low cut shirt, nor those mini skirts. he tries to not be somewhat mean to you because you’re just so sweet and nice.
now he’s sitting on your couch, a little space between you and him. the show from the tv playing while he lights up his blunt. he’s tired from all the exams and test and shit assignments. but he has you and his weed. he’s running his palm on your leg that’s thrown on his lap, massaging the smoothness of it. he can feel you staring at him. his hair out of that bun, resting on his shoulder while a few strands cover his eyes, his pink plump lips wrapping around the blunt and he’s hanging his head back to blow out the smoke in the air. your breath hitch - he looks so good and it’s making you clench your thighs an random shiver running through your body.
you’re taken back when he looks other you - a wide grin on his pretty face “ got something on my face, love? ” he teases and you frown shaking your head. he removes his hand from your thigh wrapping it around your waist pulling you onto his lap. you’re practically naked compared to him - a crop top with care bear design and panties while he’s in a white tee and sweats. he’s finally happy now that you’re become comfortable around him. “ you starin at me hard. you want some? shit makes you feel good ” he offers but you still and hesitant “ ren i don’t smoke - you know that ”. you take off his foggy glasses off cleaning them with the towel before putting them back. you feel cozy on his lap ( he’s manspreading ) as you wrap your arms around him hiding your face between his neck and shoulder even though you’re watching him smoke. his hand resting on your lower back as you grind on his lap, biting your lip to not let out that whine you’re holding in.
“ what’re you trynna do? ” he spoke realizing how quiet you’ve been and the little damp spot on his sweat. you ignore him gripping on his tee tightly finally letting out a broken moan. he placed the blunt down both hands on your hips trying to stop you. “ ren… wan’ you so bad ” you let out totally absentmindedly. “ fuck what should i do with you? could’ve been a good girl and tell me that ” he laughs standing up with his ashtray walking up the stairs to your room. he placed them on the bed while he drops you as well. “ you so fucking wet. why you so wet precious? talk to me ” his voice so sultry while removing your damp panties making your shiver at the cold air. you were so wet you started dripping down on the sheets. he didn’t get a response which he wasn’t so happy at “ you like watching me smoke, thought that shit wasn’t good for me ” you while your head grabbing the hem of his shirt as he ran two fingers through your slit. “ looked so good rennie.. please ”
he removed his shirt, his fingers now warming up inside your velvety walls gathering all your wetness. your lips parting into an “ O ” letting out little whimpers and babbles while eren is complete in a daze at how your sucking his fingers in, wetting them. your thighs threaten to close once his thumb begins rubbing on your little clit. “ so wet baby, talk to me what do you want? wanna hear it ” he watches you with bloodshot eyes as you stutter - trying to not mess up your words. “ need you t’ fuck me- please i-i…ren ” he nods fully understand. his fingers leave your weeping cunt to pull down his sweats and boxer. his cock so pretty. little trimmed hairs, he’s long and thick, a few veins and a pretty pink tip. he lines his leaking tip at your hole. you hold on the bedsheet with a passion, tear blurring your eyes as you moan trying to take what he gives you.
you soak him up so much making it easier for him to slide inside. he stays still for a bit, grabbing the almost finished blunt and lighting it up. he takes a long drag before leaning down tapping your cheek for you to open up which you do. the smoke blow in your mouth and you hold it in for a while before blowing it out infront of his face. he gives a little smile getting up holding onto your waist as he gives one hard thrust shocking you. he continues watching how you squirm beneath him. your braless boobs moving freely from his thrusts and a little bugle forming from your tummy. “ omgomg fuck ren.. oh my god ” your brain empty and your getting dizzy. the puff of smoke around the air making you feel hot. the blunt finishes and he’s completely high. lifting your top revealing your boobs and hard nipples. “ fuckin’ take it , just like that mama. tell rennie how good you feel ” he manages to grunt out, cursing as your nails starch his back. “ so fuckin good daddy - mak-ing me feel so so good ”
he snatches a hair tie he spot from the bed doung his regular hairstyle but way messier and his glasses were getting foggy again which he swiped. he wants to see you. he could tell your about to cum , your eyes rolling back, broken moans and cries, you’re babbling lost in pleasure. “ move your hand princess- gotta take all of this ” and when he see you try to push him farther he pulls out. you whine now that your orgasm is fading away “ nonono! ren please ‘m sorry ” you apologize but he ignores you turning you around on all fours. he slips back in so easily as he presses on your back to finish the arch. “ push me away again and i leave you here all needy and crying. ” he threatens. he runs his hands on your cute rolls and your ass living how well they fit you. he grabs your hair ( natural, braids, locs, or wig etc ) pulling your face up where he can see those fresh tears running down your chubby cheeks. “ why you crying mama ‘ts too much for you huh ” he tease while grabbing on your neck hovering over you to kiss your lips. all messy. drool leaking on either side. “ gonna cum - please let me cum daddy ‘m sorry pleaseplease ” he shushes you kissing away the salty tears while he rubs your clit. a sticky ring of cum starts to form on his cock completely coating him “ cum baby let it out… want all of it c’mon ”. his thrusts get faster and harder while he slaps your ass, his head hung back as he hold your waist tightly cumming.
this is lowkey the longest i’ve written, so proud of myself :3

Your Secret (Melissa Schemmenti x f!Reader)
Tumblr media
Synopsis: You and Melissa desperately try to keep your secret during Development Day
Words: 1.8k
Warnings: mentions of marking
“Where’d you get that sweatshirt?”
You looked down at your body, the familiar grey material soft against your skin. Your thumb ran over the worn cuff, the scent clinging to it helping to calm your heart. The faded design on the front was barely visible any longer, the years wearing it away.
“Why?” you asked, looking back to Janine, “I don’t think it’s going to salvage your outfit.”
“Hey,” she protested.
You lent over, hand extended. Melissa’s slapped against yours, the move practiced to the point where neither of you had to look at one another. The slide of her palm against yours still sent warmth up your arm, her touch familiar and still so enticing. Her eyes flickered up to you, then down your body before returning to the work in front of her.
“No really, it looks familiar,” Janine said, interrupting your thoughts.
You froze, Melissa doing the same in your periphery.
“Well, it’s not the only one in existence,” you replied, keeping your voice level.
There was no need for her to know exactly where you got it from. No one else needed to know the memory of gentle hands gently zipping you up into it that morning, or the soft kiss you’d received before leaving, hands tugging on the pockets until a warm body brushed against yours. No one had to know the whispered words in your ear or the promises made about wearing your girlfriend’s clothes. No one had to know how you buried your nose in the collar, just to smell her when she wasn’t there.
“I’m sure plenty of people have those,” Melissa said.
“I suppose,” she said, “maybe I’ve just seen you wear it before.”
“Maybe,” you said.
Your eyes flicked up, finding Melissa’s before you both looked away.
“Oh the sweatshirt?” you asked later while filming an interview for the camera crew, “it’s just a sweatshirt. Nothing special about it.”
The director raised an eyebrow.
“I just like it,” was all you could say.
A hand shot out of a classroom as you passed by, grasping you by the wrist and pulling you in. The door slammed shut, echoing down the hall in the least subtle manner you’d seen. Which was saying a lot given you knew Janine. The hold around you wrist tightened, tugging you forward against a warm body.
“You need to take this off,” Melissa growled, tugging on the sleeve of your sweatshirt.
“I could do that but there’s going to be a lot more questions if I do,” you replied, “hence why you lent it to me.”
Fingers played with the zipper, pulling it down just low enough for her to see the dark bruises on your skin. You shivered as she traced one, smirking down at your chest. Reaching out, you rested your hands on her hips, sliding around until your hands found their way into the back pockets of her jeans.
“Do you really want me to take it off?” you asked.
“Not unless you have something to replace it with,” she said, still staring down at your chest.
“I don’t but tonight, when we’re done here and we go back to your place,” you murmured, drawing closer to her, “I’ll take off anything you want me to.”
“I’ll take that deal,” she said before kissing you.
You’d never grow tired of her kissing you.
“Now you get that sexy ass outta here before Janine begins asking any more questions.”
Her fingers were slow as she zipped up the sweatshirt again, fingers ghosting over your skin. You pressed another kiss to her lips, a promise of later caught between you. You slipped out of her classroom, inhaling the scent of her on the collar of her sweatshirt.
Pulling your hair into a ponytail, you got to work cleaning up your own classroom on the second floor. Rearranging desks and hanging up posters, you pushed the sleeves up your arms. Then you paused, remembering Melissa doing that exact action in that exact sweatshirt. The grin on your face was all your own.
“Hey, nice sweatshirt.”
You spun, finding Jacob in your doorway.
“Yeah, it’s the talk of development day, apparently,” you replied, hoping that would be the end of it.
“Have you worn it here before?” he asked, “only it looks so familiar.”
“Maybe,” you said.
“Looks good,” he said.
“Thanks.”
You turned away from him, going back to the work he’d interrupted. That had to be the end of it. It had to be. It was just a sweatshirt. And you didn’t have an alternate option to cover the skin exposed by your tank top.
Hours later, the phone in your pocket vibrated. You pulled it out, the group chat calling you away to join the gang in the staff room. You sighed, rolling your eyes. Someone had let Janine back in, probably Gregory.
Shoving your hands into the pockets of the hoodie, you sauntered a few doors down. People were gathered around a table. Your eyes immediately found Melissa, warmth spreading through your chest at the sight of her.
“What’s the emergency?” you asked.
“They’ve found old photos of past development days,” Melissa replied.
You gasped, “we can see young Barbra?”
Melissa nudged your shoulder as you came to stand beside her, flashing you one of those fond smiles you’d grown drunk on over the summer. The brush of her arm against yours was thrilling, even after all the months you’d been with her. Touching her in a room full of people when they didn’t know, it was a heady combination.
“Melissa, is this you?” Janine was pointing at a faded photo from the early 2000s.
“You that bad at recognising faces?” she asked, crossing her arms and pursing her lips.
“Oooo I want to see baby Melissa,” you said, reaching out for the photo.
You plucked it out of Janine’s hand, eyes scanning for the familiar red head. Your teeth sunk into your bottom lip as you tried to contain your grin, seeing her there with the others, so familiar and yet like a whole other person.
“Aw, look at you,” you said, showing her the picture, “this woman looks like she’s fun.”
“I don’t look like I’m fun?” She cocked her hip, eyebrow raising.
“You’re very fun,” you replied, patting her shoulder.
She looked over your shoulder at the photo again. Your own eyes turned down to it before they widened. You were slow to look at her, finding her own eyes already on you. She snatched it out of your hand.
“What is it?” Janine asked, looking between you and her.
“None of your business,” Melissa snapped.
The photo was snatched out of her hand. Your mouth fell open, Jacob seemingly shocked at his own daring, shoving it at Janine. She looked down at it, then back at you. Gregory looked over his shoulder, face growing blank as he looked up at you too, gaze lingering on your top.
“Isn’t this the same sweatshirt you’re wearing?” Janine asked.
“Is it?” Jacob snatched the picture back from her.
His head swivelled from it to you to Melissa.
“I must have borrowed it from her,” you said, looking at her.
“Melissa doesn’t share clothes,” Janine said.
“Not with people she doesn’t like,” you replied, “she likes me.”
“And I know she won’t make anything I lend her look terrible,” Melissa said.
“Didn’t you recognise it when I asked you earlier?” she asked.
“Whaddaya mean?” she asked in return.
“Earlier, I said the sweatshirt looked familiar and you both said it was something other people owned too. Didn’t you recognise it?” she said.
“Maybe I didn’t want you prying into my business,” she replied.
There was a moment of silence.
“You’ve let her wear your leather jacket before too,” Gregory said.
“What?” Melissa whipped towards him
“More than once,” Jacob said.
“You won’t even let me touch it,” Janine said.
You turned to look at her, finding her eyes turning to you too. She gave a small, almost imperceptible shake of her head. You curled your arms around your body, pressing the soft material to your skin, the second best thing to her touch. You tilted your head, raising both your eyebrows at her.
A sharp intake of breath had both of your heads snapping around. Janine was looking between to the two of you, eyes widening, a grin spreading over her face. You opened your mouth before a warm hand slapped over it. Melissa was glaring across the table at the young woman, not acknowledging the way your lips brushed her palm.
“You two are-“ Janine tried to say before Melissa interrupted.
“We’re friends.”
You saw Jacob’s eyes widening and your shoulders slumped. Grasping her wrist, you were gentle to take her hand from your mouth.
Mel,” you whispered, “I think the game is up.”
Her eyes flashed to yours before softening. You threaded your fingers through hers, giving her a small smile, slightly sad and yet there was a bit of relief.
“We’ve been together for almost a year,” you said, turning to look at the assembled group.
Janine was grinning so wide.
“And that’s all we’re telling youse about it,” Melissa said.
“This is great. This is so great. Who else knows? Do we have to keep it a secret?” she shot at the two of you.
“You figure it out,” Melissa said.
She dragged you out of the room by your joined hands. You guided her to your classroom, closing the door quietly. Seating her on one of your desks, you stood between her legs, hands sliding up her thighs to hold her hips.
“So they know,” you prompted.
“I don’t like it,” she growled.
“I know,” you said, “I know we wanted it to keep it quiet. But we couldn’t keep it a secret forever.”
“Couldn’t we?” she asked, the anger still bubbling below the surface.
“Honey.” You tucked some hair behind her ear, “when we get married I don’t want to keep that a secret. I’ll want to be showing off that I bagged the hottest woman in Philly.”
“When we get married?”
You chuckled, leaning forward until your forehead was pressed against hers. Her breath puffed over your lips, arms winding around your neck.
“I want you forever, Melissa Schemmenti. I want you to be mine in every way possible,” you murmured.
When she kissed you, it was like sunshine was being poured directly into your heart. You melted against her, pulling her closer, never wanting any space between the two of you. The way she sighed into your mouth told you she wanted the same thing.
“See? I told you.”
You stepped out of the way, watching Melissa grit her teeth as she hopped off the table. She strode to the door, Janine already running away.
“I’ll meet you at home later?” you called after her.
She raised her hand in acknowledgement, following in the receding footsteps of Janine. Yeah, you were going to marry that woman one day.

DONT YOU WORRY ABOUT YOUR CURLY HAIR !
୨୧. pairing - riki nishimura x reader .
୨୧. cw - hurt/comfort, wrote with a curly haired hispanic reader in mind, lwk self indulgent lol :,), friends to lovers
୨୧. summary - you get insecure about your curly hair after you overhear some girls talking about it in the halls, and ni-ki is there to comfort you.
୨୧. NOW PLAYING - “a letter to my thirteen year old self” by LAUFEY .
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
you were a foreign exchange student, who has been living in korea since you were 7. you were never accepted into the standards because of your skin color, your hair, and the food you eat.
yet there was one boy, who you came to know as your best friend, nishimura riki. he came from japan, but still managed to fit in with the others. you sort of resented him, how easy people accepted him but gave you funny looks, always picking you last in games and never sitting with you during lunch.
he didn’t seem to care about any of that. he stuck by your side no matter how hard you tried to push him away, and you eventually gave in. years flew by, and you were still deemed as the odd one out, the only girl in the entire school with beautiful luscious curls, yet you were ashamed of them.
ni-ki, who was given that nickname by his friends in primary school, who was basically glued to your side, however, adored them. he would constantly ask for permission to play with your curls, and you couldn’t help but say yes, even though you knew it would make them somewhat frizzy. deep down in your heart, there was a sudden realization you were in love with the boy.
you pushed your feelings down deep, knowing he should get with one of the perfect korean girls in your school, ones with shiny straight hair and supple, pale skin that glows in the sun. you even decided that one of his fangirls would be a better match for him then you. in a final last ditch attempt to lose your feelings for him, you began to avoid him.
this hurt him so badly, seeing you dodge him in classes and hallways, hiding away during lunch in the library or the courtyard, eating alone. he kept trying to find you, hanging around the spaces you two used to sit together, under cherry blossom trees, on the bleachers, in the library, and finally, underneath the staircase.
he was going on his daily search for you when he heard sniffling come from your designated spot, and knowing your voice, he immediately knew it was you. he rushed down in his dark clothing, complete opposite from what your wearing, decked out in baby pink and white, bow in your hair and everything, seeing you sitting on the steps crying quietly. he sits beside you and cups your cheek, getting you to look at him.
“y/n? what happened?” his voice brings you out of your panic, causing you to look at the tall boy kneeled infront of you. you shake your head and look away from him, but he persists, now holding your face with both of his hands, thumbs caressing your cheeks so lovingly, as if he loves you. “cmon, look at me y/n, please. just tell me.”
he murmurs pleadingly, thumbing away your tears. you cave in, unable to resist his gaze.
“just.. everyone in this school treats me like i’m some specimen.. or like an alien from another planet. just because of my hair and my skin color. i hate it so much ni-ki. and.. um..”
you pause, not sure if what your about to say will go over well. it could seriously jeopardize your entire friendship.
“and what?”
he murmurs, looking at you expectantly, nodding along to what your saying, waiting for you to speak.
“i like you ni-ki. i like you more then a friend and more then a classmate. i like you. i don’t know why i like you. i just do, okay? i’m so sorry. i’m so so sorry—“
your apologies are abruptly cut off with his pouty lips pressed onto yours. he brings you closer by placing a hand on the back of your neck to deepen the sweet, comforting kiss. your hands come up to rest on the sides of his neck and jaw. you pull away with wild eyes, but before you can speak again he cuts you off once more.
“don’t you worry about your curly hair, y/n. it’s so beautiful. people just aren’t used to your beauty, since nobody in korea has your beautiful hair. but you are so unique and ethereal, you stand out from everyone else for a good reason, and that’s why i love you. you aren’t considered normal, and neither am i.”
he rants on about how much he loves you and your hair, until you cut him off.
“you.. love me?”
you sound so awestruck. someone loves you? and it’s the boy you’ve been pining after for years?
“yes, y/n l/n, i love you so much it hurts. please, can i be your boyfriend?”
he pulls you up to your feet, yet hes practically towering over you, standing at 6’1, and interlocks your hands. he cups your cheek with another, bending down to kiss your forehead.
“yes, nishimura riki. you can be my boyfriend.”
you hum before pulling him into another sweet kiss, getting lost in his embrace.

Batter, Batter
Jock!Wanda Maximoff x Female Reader
On an overnight team trip, Wanda decides to make a move on you. It goes better than she expected
Warnings: Smut! 18+ please! Kissing, cursing, oblivious reader in the beginning, oral (W and R receiving), fingering, very confident Wanda
Note: I got this idea and couldn’t let it go until I wrote it. Yes, I made them softball players. I know what sports I know. Enjoy!
Wanda Maximoff Masterlist, Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
Wanda Maximoff is by far and wide your favorite teammate. The girl always cheers you on the loudest and picks you up when you make an error.
So, you weren’t surprised when Wanda was designated as your roommate for the team’s overnight final tournament.
Now, you sit on the hotel bed in your uniform and wait for Wanda to finish getting dressed. She comes out of the bathroom in just her unbuttoned pants and socks with a sports bra on.
“Y/n, have you seen my jersey?” She asks you.
You look up from your phone and your mouth goes dry. Wanda’s abs are on display. You try to avert your gaze, but it’s no use.
“Earth to y/n,” Wanda says, a chuckle escaping from her lips.
“Sorry- uh- yeah I think it’s over on the dresser,” you stumble through your words.
Wanda nods and finds the jersey. She slips it over her head and tucks it into her pants. Then she looks around again.
“Any chance you’ve seen my belt?” Wanda asks.
“By your bag,” you say.
“You’re a lifesaver,” she says. She puts the belt through her pant loops, but she stops short of buckling it. “Could you help me?”
“Oh- um-”
“My hand still hurts from taking that ball to my knuckles yesterday,” Wanda explains.
You’re sure you would remember if that happened, but who are you to deny helping her? You cross the room and buckle her belt. You don’t see how Wanda stares at you as you do it, her eyes searching for the same want in yours.
When you’re done, you step back and look at her face. She smiles and places a hand on your arm.
“We should get going to make team breakfast,” you say.
“Right,” Wanda agrees. “Let’s go.”
The two of you slip on your shoes and go down to the hotel lobby to meet the rest of the team. You greet Natasha and Carol as Wanda walks off to talk to other teammates.
“So, how is it rooming with Maximoff?” Carol asks you, a hint of teasing in her voice.
“It’s cool, yeah,” you say. “We get along.”
“Yeah, I bet you do,” Natasha teases.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
Natasha shares a glance with Carol wondering if she should tell you. She doesn’t get the chance when your coach starts talking to the team.
After listening to the speech, Wanda finds herself sitting next to Monica at breakfast.
“I’m guessing you haven’t made a move yet,” Monica says to her.
Wanda sighs, “No. I can’t tell if it will scare her off if I do.”
“I’ve seen how she looks at you,” Monica says. “She may not know it, but she is definitely in love with you.”
Wanda grins at that.
“I think I’ll do it tonight after the game,” Wanda decides. It’s usually easier than this for her to make moves on girls, but she really likes you and that scares her a bit.
The rest of the day goes by quickly. Both you and Wanda play well, and the team moves on to the next round of playoffs. The team is off celebrating, but you hang back in the hotel room.
You thought Wanda was going out, but she enters the room.
“Oh hey,” she says. “Not going to celebrate?”
“Nah, I’m too tired,” you say. “What about you?”
She shakes her head. “A night in with you sounds better.”
You smile and try to find a movie on the tv. Wanda sits on her bed, but she glances over at you. If she’s going to make a move, she needs to make it now. She stands up and walks to your bed.
“Can I sit with you?” Wanda asks.
“Yeah- okay,” you say.
You scoot over and Wanda sits next to you. She’s close enough that her thigh is brushing against yours. At some point, she places her hand on your thigh and leans her head against your shoulder.
You don’t know why her closeness makes your heart flutter. She stays like that for the whole movie.
Afterward, she sits up straight again and looks at you.
“Y/n,” Wanda begins. She is close to you, close enough that you can see every feature on her face. She is absolutely perfect. Wanda leans her lips closer to yours. “Can I kiss you?”
“Yes,” you whisper. All other words escaping you.
Wanda closes the distance between you two. Her fingers brush softly over your cheek as her lips move against yours. You gasp when Wanda deepens the kiss, her tongue entering your mouth.
She pulls away slightly. Wanda examines your face.
“Have you never had a woman’s tongue in your mouth before?” Wanda asks. Her words have an effect on your body, making you ache for her. You shake your head. “Use your words, baby.”
“No. I haven’t,” you say.
“Just follow my lead, okay?”
“Okay,” you agree, anticipation building up in you.
Wanda kisses you again. This time she wastes no moment. She deepens the kiss. Wanda pushes you back onto the bed. Her eyes rake over your body before her hands begin to wander.
“Tell me you want this,” Wanda says, her hand hovering over your shorts. You had changed into them after a quick shower following the game.
“I want this, Wanda,” you say. You never thought this day would come.
Wanda smiles and slips her hand under the waistband of your shorts. She slides the material down your legs, grinning when you aren’t wearing any underwear. Wanda notices the tint of blush on your face. It makes her heart flutter. She sits up and takes her own pants off, leaving her in a t-shirt and panties.
“You’re so beautiful,” you find yourself telling her.
Your hand comes to her thigh as she straddles your waist again. Wanda looks at you with her big, green eyes. They rake over your lower half before making a silent plea for you to remove the rest of your clothing.
While you’re lifting your shirt over your head, Wanda discards her own. She lays on top of you again, and her breasts brush against yours. The material of your bras annoys her. Wanda takes off your bra and her own.
“So good,” Wanda mumbles as she takes your nipple in her mouth. You haven’t felt anything like this before. Your senses are on overload as she licks and sucks you.
“Oh Wanda,” your moan radiates through the room.
She hums and switches to your other nipple. Her hand makes its way down your stomach to your wet folds. Wanda is no stranger to making a woman feel good. She moves two fingers around your pussy and slips a finger in while she’s still paying rapt attention to your breasts.
“So wet and tight,” Wanda moans out.
You take her break from your breasts an opportunity to lean and kiss her. Wanda’s tongue battles with yours in full force this time.
“Fuck,” you say when she pulls away. She adds another finger as she hits you right where you need her. “That feels so good.”
“Yeah?” She asks. You nod. “Am I the only person who’s ever touched you like this?”
“Yes,” you breathe out.
Wanda replies with another kiss before she slides down your body. Her tongue joins her fingers in pleasing you. With every stroke, she sucks on your clit, pulling the loudest moans from you.
“I want you to come for me, y/n,” Wanda says once she feels you’re close. “I want you to shout my name and come.”
“Wanda,” you whimper, almost coming but not quite yet. Wanda picks up her pace, and with a couple more seconds, you’re shouting her name.
“Yes, that’s a good girl,” Wanda coos as you come down from your high. Your body aches in the best way.
You reach for her, and she hovers over you again. Your hands move through her perfect hair as you pull her down for a kiss. It’s slow and sinful. You realize how much you want her to feel the way you do.
“I haven’t done it before, but can I take care of you?” You ask her.
“Of course, baby,” Wanda agrees. The term of endearment slips off her tongue easily.
You kiss her once more before you switch positions. You lay next to her a bit, so you can pay attention to her breasts. Doing as she did, you take your time licking and sucking her perfect nipples. Her moans encourage you to keep going, even daring to bite her nipple softly.
“I need you,” Wanda says. She pushes on your head to kiss a trail down her chest to her stomach and right where she wants you.
“You have me,” you tell her. “Tell me what to do?”
“Lick me,” Wanda says. Sounds simple enough.
You lick her folds, much like she did to you. You try to replicate what she did. Wanda moans and tells you how to proceed. Once you get the hang of it, Wanda lays her head back on the bed in pleasure.
“I’m going to come,” she moans out when she’s close.
You feel yourself pick up the pace. Wanda’s mouth is open as her face is twisted with pleasure. She comes, and you lick her until she’s begging for you to stop.
“Fuck that was so hot,” Wanda says, her voice breathy.
You kiss her and lie on the bed next to her. Both of you catch your breath.
“I’ve peaked,” you say.
Wanda chuckles, turning to look at you again. You take her hand in yours and bring it to your lips. You kiss the back, and Wanda smiles at your sweetness.
“So, what are we?” Wanda asks.
“Teammates with benefits?” You wonder aloud. Wanda’s hand comes to your cheek. She looks over your face. She wants to do this right.
“How about we go on a date? And then I could ask you to be my girlfriend?” Wanda suggests.
“Even better,” you agree.
Wanda kisses your forehead softly. You spend the rest of the night kissing each other, getting to know each other better, and thanking goodness for an out-of-town tournament that brought you two together.
It was better than any win you could’ve ever foreseen. With Wanda by your side, you’re always a winner.

Even more questions:
What if Tessa met Beanie? How would she react to N being a father?
Does Beanie hang upside down using her tail? If she can of course.
Does she like reading? If yes then what's her favorite book?
What if J met Beanie?
What if Uzi didn't have to die?
Does she play with her dad's hair?
How does V spend time with Beanie?
What if Beanie somehow found out about what happened to her mother?
Does Beanie have any fears? Like things that make her uncomfortable, scared and ect.
What does make Beanie happy?
For that first question, I’m just going to say I think Tessa would be disgruntled and confused. N (and V) spent eight years on Copper-9, and suddenly he’s a dad??? As for the other questions, I have spent all day drawing stuff for.
Tumblr media
I assume Beanie would like generic children’s books (though I assume they’d be pretty wacky, considering they’d be written by drones). However, she has once stolen and read a whole dictionary. She may be a little WordGirl in the making, but hell if she can pronounce any of them.
Tumblr media
So I debated on whether I should unveil GD!J’s design for this, and I decided “Eh. Why not?” I believe J and Beanie’s first meeting would not go over well, which would certainly make Bea develop a hatred towards J (like mother like daughter!). In her words, J is a bum.
Tumblr media
N definitely would not have ghost sight, and would have kept his old (if a little well-loved at this point) outfit. Seeing as Beanie was named by N when he put Uzi’s hat on her head whilst being sleep-deprived, I highly doubt that she would still have that name here. Also N still gets kisses. :D
Tumblr media
Like a little kitty cat, especially when he’s recharging. She likes batting at his bangs a lot. Who knows why.
Tumblr media
I like the idea V would accept the role of being Beanie’s wacky aunt. They are a force to be reckoned with, and they’re sometimes very unhelpful put together. (By the way, Bea inherited N’s dialect, meaning they both pronounce certain words the same way. In this case, they both say “Awn-tee.”)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She... probably wouldn’t take it well in the wrong context. She may like biting things, but she only bites other drones when she’s scared. The above comic features Beanie overhearing that N technically killed her mother, and terrified by the idea he could hurt his loved ones, she bites him for the first (and possibly only) time.
Tumblr media
While Beanie is scared of strangers and freaky dark places, that’s nothing in compared to how terrified and worried she becomes when separated from her father for long periods of time, thanks to him always being around her. She could wander away from him, but she’ll always toddle back to him.
Tumblr media
Outside of her family and turtlenecks, what I’ve taken to calling “roboroaches” make Beanie happy! She gets an extra blast of serotonin when she sees them, and she may be some kind of “cute little bug” whisperer at this point.
Thanks for the questions! Hope you enjoyed the responses :3
OH FROGS! SHE DOES NOT HANG UPSIDE DOWN BY HER TAIL BTW, I KNEW I WAS FORGETTING TO ANSWER ONE. She does open doors with it sometimes, though.

✧Rating: Fluff + Smut
✧Characters: Edgar Allen Poe
✧Word Count: 3.9k
✧Summary: Headcanons about Poe and Karl because they’re precious.
Platonic + Romantic + Sexual + Karl
Tumblr media
.𖤣 .𖥧 𖡼. ⚘.° :Platonic
✿ Poe’s main interest in life is to write. More specifically, write a mystery novel even the great detective Ranpo can’t crack to get his sweet, long-awaited revenge.
✿ He spends hours, long, grueling hours, slumped over his desk with adorable raccoon freind curled up on his lap, writing none stop. His feathered pen flutters through the air as its ink soaked tip etches Poe’s ideas into words. It’s almost beautiful.
✿ His sleep deprived eyes struggling to stay open, hyper focused on the air taking shape in front of him
✿ Just like a sculptor, he chisels away at the manila paper with the hopes of soon creating a magnificent statue to stand the test of time.
✿ That uplifting dream helps keep his head high and his pen working overtime
✿ But even a talented writer like him often has his off days. Days where he feels his river of rushing inspiration run dry; days where the negation of his health finally finds the opportunity to pounce.
✿ Usually when he finds himself stuck at the bottom of an ocean of despair, he hesitatingly leaves his room and takes a stroll around his mansion.
✿(btw I headcanon, I’m pretty sure it’s cannon but idk, he lives in a secluded mansion on the outside of town with a view of the ocean by his window and a lush garden of roses in his front yard. He usually doesn’t take very good care of it cuz he spends most of his time writing but sometimes he likes to stop by and admire the new buds)
✿(I also headcannon he has tons of shelves and climbing equipment set up up the wall and on the ceiling of his study so if Karl gets bored he can scamper up there and have some play time)
✿He takes note of anything that catches his eye; whether that be intricate designs of the wooden trim on the walls, the feeling of smooth tiles under his shoes, the sounds of leaves rustling against the windows, the faint scent of mahogany and spruce hanging in the air from the numerous candles he likes to light.
✿ Although these senses may sound boring, all it takes is a small spark of intrigue to set of an explosion of fireworks in his mind that leave him rushing back to his chamber to jot it all down, Karl scampering after him excitedly.
✿ But on days he doesn’t even have the will to get out of bed, it leaves Karl with the duty of getting him back on his feet.
✿ He’ll give him tons of fluffy cuddles and licks on the cheek, deliver him snacks leftover from Ranpo’s last visit, and eventually yank him out of bed by the sleeve of his pajama shirt when it’s time to get some sun.
✿ He’s perfectly content with this lifestyle and finds comfort in his solitude. Big crowds of loud, unfamiliar people make him uncomfortable and afraid. All he really needs is his writing, Karl, and Ranpo.
✿ There’s just one thing. The more he ventures outside of his sanctum, the more he begins to long for something.
✿ It’s a solemn feeling; Like the sad cry of a lost wolf pup, endlessly marching through a thick and dark forest, calling out for any signs of its pack. He can practically feel the cold biting at his torn paw pads and the thicket’s thorns scratching at his back.
✿ No matter how many sweet nuzzles Karl gives him, the feeling still persists.
✿ That was until he finally ran into you. In that moment where his eyes gazed into yours, his breathing stopped. The heavy, painful feeling of loneliness suddenly falters, like the metal cuffs weighing from his wrists and ankles unlock.
✿ Even though he has the conversation skills of both a theater kid and a wet rag, he does his best to keep up.
✿ His long, dark locks covering his eyes don’t do much to shield the slight red glow of embarrassment from his cheeks
✿ When he gets nervous, he likes to glide his fingers loosely through Karl’s dense fur. He makes sure to give him a nice brushing when it gets too tangled so it’s usually in pretty good condition. The quiet action helps steady his nerves, and Karl’s almost too willing to get some extra attention.
✿ After meeting you, he begins to leave the house more often.
✿ He loves to rant to you about the next chapter of his novel and how the newest twist will finally prove itself too difficult for Ranpo to deduce. He’ll go into detail, explaining each and every complexity, red herring, and hidden meaning of his writing which will probably go straight over your head. Following everything up with a villainous cackle.
✿ After noticing your lost expression, he apologies enthusiastically and laughs it off.
✿ When Ranpo learns of the new friend Poe made, he will invite both of you out with him to a local arcade. Even though he acts all cheerful and aloof as he urges you to play games with him, he secretly hides the fact he’s just using this as an excuse to scope you out.
✿ He can’t have some unworthy person try to come along and steal his close friend away from him, no matter how childish that sounds. He also just wants the best for Poe.
✿ If you pass his vibe check, you’re now added to the list of people Ranpo actually enjoys spending time with (good for you)
✿ Now that you’re officially a certified friend of Poe, you’ll have to take on some of the responsibilities Karl once did when Poe gets stuck in a stupor of blank pages.
✿ Make sure to get him some groceries (using his card ofc with his consent) and kind words.
✿ Sometimes all it takes to displace the dark, thunderous worries in his mind is a pat on the shoulder and a few words along the lines of “I’m proud of you.”
✿ He’ll look back at you with such a sickeningly sweet smile as tears gush from his shining, dark eyes.
✿ Expect a neatly folded envelope with a ruby red seal and a few jet black raven feathers decorated under it on your doorstep. In it contains a handwritten thank you letter from Poe. (He’s so extra I love him)
✿ But can you blame him? He’s just so glad to have another friend he can count on! <3
° .; ʚ❤︎ɞ ‘。˚ :Romantic
➷ Having Poe as a boyfriend has to be one of the most exquisitely beautiful yet taxing experiences in the world of dating
➷ He’s a major hopeless romantic and would always find him mind drifting off to thoughts of you while trying to work on his novel.
➷ When he eventually realizes he got off draft he’s already covered the whole page in praises, poems, and hearts. He grumbles to himself for making such an embarrassing mistake and tears out the page.
➷ Right when he was about to crumble it, he stops himself and instead tucks it neatly into his desk, never to see the light of day again.
➷ He turns to a new page and takes a deep breath to calm his mind. Yet, his pen remains stationary. His eyebrows knit together as he tries desperately to push away the surplus thoughts of you and his love for you out of his mind.
➷ “Why can’t I just focus on what’s in front of me…?” He groans in defeat as he flops against his desk. Karl brushes his fluffy tail over his back, nudging his ear with his nose.
➷ “I’m fine, Karl. Just a bit distracted, it seems,” he mumbles, covering his growing blush with his arms.
➷ Is he really reduced to a complete flustered mess, just by the mere thoughts of you? He whimpers at the idea.
➷ Just give him some time to wallow in self pity and he’ll finally pull himself together.
➷ He decides to vent out his feelings into stacks upon stacks of love letters, poems, and sketches, all embodying his undying love for the beauty known as you.
➷ Now that his mind is free of clutter, he can begin work on his novel once more. But, out of the corner of his eye, he doesn’t quite catch the faint blur of gray fur that swipes one of the poems and speeds off to an unknown location.
➷ After around two hours, Poe wipes his brow and stands up from his desk, finally ready to take a needed break for some food and rest. When he reaches to his shoulder to pet Karl, the spot he usually rests while cuddling around Poe’s neck, he finds it worryingly empty.
➷ The adrenaline spike of a mother’s primal instincts shoots directly into his veins like a drug as he jumps up from his chair and scrambles all over the house in search of his beloved friend.
➷ Sooner or later he finds Karl curled up by the fireplace with nearly folded piece of paper in his mouth. Poe gently takes it from him and gasps as he reads it. It… it was a poem… with your name on it? Did Karl steal one of his love poems?!
➷ Without fully reading over the poem, he hurries back to his study and shoves it into his desk, along with the rest of the incriminating material of his love.
➷ “Not a soul shall hear of this, especially not t-them…” He murmurs to himself before preparing a cup of tea to calm down his racing heart.
➷ After a large quantity of time goes by and he warms up to being more open with his love, he’ll make it his duty to write one poem for you each day and have Karl deliver it to you. He could be swamped in work, suffering from a fever, or caught up in a fiasco with the guild and he would still find the time to jot down a few words for your eyes and heart only.
➷ Plus, he makes sure to give each letter a stamp of approval from Karl by dipping his paw pad in some animal safe ink.
➷ No matter how much time he spends with you it’s just not enough for his poor enthralled heart.
➷ Often, he’d find himself lying awake a night, thoughts and dreams of you echoing and spinning through his mind like a carousel.
➷ Just a light touch on the hand can turn his poor cheeks bright red. The picture of his blushing, flustered face barely concealed by his unkempt dark hair is enough to make anyone want to tease the life out of this man
➷ On days he’s not as busy and a little more confident than usual, he’ll take you out somewhere nice. And when I say nice, I mean NICEEE.
➷ We all know this guy is loaded and he’s 100% willing to spend every dime of it on you.
➷ Thousands of servings of food, luxury clothing brands, sparkling jewelry, spa trips every day, fuck it, even a private jet if you really wanted. Just remember to not be too demanding because he can get pretty reckless with money.
➷ One time you told him how much you loved bunnies and the next time you went into your living room it was completely full of bunny merch of all kinds. Plushies, blankets, clothes, I could go on for days.
➷ All and all, his love language is most definitely giving gifts or words of affirmations.
.༺ཐི♡ཋྀ༻. :Sexual
ღ This guy is such a bottom in the kindest way I can put it. Everything about you sends currents of love streaming through his body, setting it ablaze. He’s completely at the mercy of this feeling, at the mercy of you.
ღ The only time he won’t be a bottom is when he’s going through a spout of confidence from either one upping Ranpo somehow or syncing himself up. But even then you won’t get anything more than a service dom.
ღ Let’s start of with his bottom side.
ღ He’s always pining for you, daydreaming about how lovely you are to him and how angelic you look. But his thoughts don’t always stay pure and fluffy.
ღ On days he’s especially pent up from working long days and nights on his writing, he can often find himself sucked into the honey trap of more… explicit fantasies of you.
ღ Sometimes it’s him tied up with you looming over him, sometimes you’re stroking him under the table during a guild meeting, sometimes you’re giving him head under his desk when he’s supposed to be finishing his novel, and sometimes you’re littering his pink tilted skin in hickies and lipstick stains.
ღ He whines in annoyance at the prominent bulge in his pants he now has to take care of.
ღ But maybe, if you’d be fine with it, you could make some of his fantasies come true…?
ღ He let’s put a yelp as he feels your hands slide up his thighs and your smirking face appear between them.
ღ his workaholic brain tries to resist the temptation in front of him in favor of working just a little bit more but… as soon as his fly is down and your intoxicatingly warm tongue laps against his head, he’s once again completely at your mercy.
ღ Even though he may have needy fantasies about you, I don’t see him having a very high libedo. You can expect to have sex maybe every week or so, adjusting around your needs instead of his.
ღ This brings me to discuss his service Dom side.
ღ When he’s in his confident mindset, you can find your back pressed against his mattress and his hands interlocked with his own as his lips trace against your jaw.
ღ You didn’t hear it from me, but his dirty talk is leagues ahead of most people in BSD.
ღ “What an alluring temptress I have below me, if I wasn’t the gentleman I am I would have taken you against every surface of my mansion until we’re both breathless and shaking~”
ღ “I can’t wait to bathe every inch and curve of your body in so much love and pleasure to the point your crying my name so loud even the angels in heaven will get jealous~”
ღ “Just like that, my beautiful goddess, I- Hahh I’m devoted to you and you only. I’ll pray and worship you every… se-second, hour, day of my life, I promise- Promise promise promise I’ll serve you! I’ll please you, I’ll make you feel an unending amount of ecstasy I swear to you!”
ღ “My angel, my love, my life, my everything, let your burning love out!! Nghhh~ Let it burst from your cunt, drip onto the mattress. I’ll clean it up later, I swear! J-just relax and cum for me, I-I Aghh!!! I just can’t hold on much longer! Please cum please cum please- Aghh!!~ I-I gonna cummmmm!!~”
ღ I totally see him as a virgin until he meets you. Either you’ll have to teach him or you’ll try to educate himself.
ღ How will he do that? Well, let’s just say there’s a certain shelf of his room no one, not even Karl, is allowed near. After exploring the world of more… erotic writing, that’s when he started to have fantasies about you.
ღ If you have a corruption kink, you better get to him before his private writing collection does~
ღ It’s pretty easy to make him lose his mind if I’m being honest.
ღ it can be done by giving him a sudden, deep kiss on the lips, a hug from behind where your hands wander further than his stomach, maybe even having him catch you in nothing but a bra and panties.
ღ Now that’s a great way to stay in his mind for hours~
ღ One of his guilty pleasures is marks. Hickies are his favorite because the pain that comes with scratches and bruises takes him out of his romantic mood. On days where he’s out and about with his dearest friend Ranpo and he catches the faint glimpse of a reddish bruise under the pearly white collar of his button up. Dread seeps into every corner of his body like a rock sinking to the bottom of a pond as a sinister smirk stretches across Ranpo’s face.
ღ “My my my, did someone have some fun last night?~ I never took you for the-“ Ranpo’s smirk widens as a hand quickly covers his mouth.
ღ “D-Don’t… allow me to keep at least some of my dignity…” Poe stammers out, using his other hand to cover his incriminating blush.
ღ But he could be caught in the act a million times before he ever even for a second regretted the nights of sinful passion you two spend together. Reaching a new level of nirvana with you proudly riding the life out of him makes him the happiest, most lucky man in all of the world. Even if you tease him, deny him, even degrade him, he’ll still love you more than anything.
ღ “Look at how desperate you are, cumming back to back like this is the best pussy you’ve ever gotten. Is it good? Do I make you feel good, my love?~” You coo to him, stroking his heated cheek.
ღ The lovesick expression on his face, drool dripping down his chin, a cherry red blush, his clumped locks sticking to the sweat of his forehead, it all says more than even a million, trillion love poems could ever hope of communicating.
ʕ(◕ᴥ◕)ʔ Karl
꩜ He absolutely ADORES both you and Poe
꩜ I'd like to think the story of how Poe met Karl is a long and detailed one, but I’ll try to keep it short
꩜ One day after being rejected by the 27th publisher, Poe began his sad walk home.
꩜ He knows he shouldn’t give up home and that soon enough someone would be interested in his stories, but the crushing despair of not being good enough ate away at him.
꩜ he keeps his head low and to the ground, to ashamed of himself to meet anyone’s eye. That was until he noticed the hard concrete sidewalk had now turned into a loamy, grassy mix.
꩜ When he looked back up, he found himself lost in a dark forest of looming trees, pointed thickets, and changing owls.
꩜ All around him was a never ending void, disturbed by only the chirping of small animals and the rustling of bushes.
꩜ He was completely lost.
꩜ After checking his phone to of course find it has no signal and the path he had just taken was now covered in thick bushes his blood went cold.
꩜ Was this his destiny? To get rejected from every publisher in his city and die alone and hungry in the forest at night?
꩜ He sank to the ground and hugged his knees to his chest.
꩜ Tears he has been fighting back for hours finally spilled down his cheeks, swamping the first floor in dirty, murky mud.
꩜ That was until he felt a strange tickling sensation against his back. His head whipped around to find an unexpected acquaintance.
꩜ It was a small, furry raccoon with large, black eyes. It cocked its head like Poe was a weirdly rock and chittered softly.
꩜ Poe backed away slightly. He knows the animals of the forest were never ones to be messed with, including a baby raccoon. Whenever there’s a baby, an angry mom is always nearby and ready to pounce.
꩜ But instead, the raccoon squeaked again and turned his back to him, shaking his tail side to side. Was it… trying to tell him something?
꩜ Suddenly, it began to march away, it’s tail swinging behind him. Did it want Poe to follow it?
꩜ Without any over ideas, the two began to make their way through the forest, weaving between thorny brambles and suspicious ivy. After only a few minutes the glowing lights of the city finally illuminated from the clearing of the forest.
꩜ “Little raccoon, you saved my life. How can I ever repay you?” Poe knealt down on the ground and gave the kind creature a sincere bow.
꩜ The raccoon chittered back at him and stood on its hind legs, reaching up to Poe. The writer’s poor heart is pierced with an arrow of affection for his new furry friend, scooping him up into his arms and carrying him back to civilization.
꩜ Karl was born into a little of cute, healthy raccoons, owned by an unknown russian author.
꩜ But one day after playing with his siblings, he suddenly found himself picked up by the author and sold off to a family looking for an unusual house pet.
꩜ After a series of events, Karl escaped and scurried off into the forest.
꩜ He may finally have freedom, but since he’s still so young, he doesn’t know how to find food or protect himself.
꩜ Just as he was about to curl up in a pile of leaves and sleep, he heard unusual sounds coming from deep in the forest.
꩜ That’s when he found Poe.
꩜ Back in present time, he spends all his time either resting on Poe’s shoulders, curled up by the fireplace, or nestled on your lap.
꩜ His favorite treats are nuts like cashews, acorns, and peanuts. He also likes blueberries, sunflower seeds, and grapes.
꩜ (don’t give him cotton candy he will cry and Poe will scold you)
꩜ Poe won’t let you feed Karl too many snacks in fear he might get even more chunky, but if Karl gives him some big, sad eyes and whimpers, Poe will eventually cave.
꩜ He loves to chase laser pointers and you may or may not have used that to lead him on a wild chase all over Poe’s study. (It was of course Ranpo’s idea)
꩜ You too giggle to yourself like little gremlins as Poe races around the room chasing Karl like a madman.
꩜ Poe makes him wear little boots when it rains and he hates them so much, always tries to pull em off so he can splash around in the mud.
꩜ Surprisingly love baths and will purr the entire time like the attention loving stinker he is.
꩜ Has been caught digging in Poe’s and your trash on occasion. When caught he stands on his hind legs and freezes, slowly backing away with an apple core in his mouth.
꩜ Cuz Poe’s so wealthy he often buys him tons of dog and cat toys, testing each out to find what he likes most.
꩜ Karl loves feathery cat toys to swat at, squeaker dog toys to chew on, and remote control mouses to chase. But his favorite toy has to be Poe’s long jacket and anything shiny or jingling on your outfit.
꩜ Always vies for pets and cuddles, hence why he’s always snoozing away on Poe’s shoulders or lap. He’s like a little baby you both raise together and he couldn’t have better parents <3

Cold brew - Na Jaemin
Tumblr media
pairing: barista!jaemin x barista!reader
genre: fluff, angst; enemies to lovers, coffee shop au
synopsis: at the coffee shop you work at, there's always this regular who comes and orders the same cup of cold brew coffee every morning without fail. you end up having a rather rude interaction with him one morning when you accidentally spill his coffee on him before his job interview – which turns out to be for the very same coffee shop you're working at. it doesn't matter to you that he got the job, but the fact that he's always on the same shift as you never fails to get on your nerves. Will the two of you sort out your feud, or will the both of you continue to brew these cold feelings towards each other?

"One venti cold brew for Na Jaemin!" you call, voice ringing out through the coffee shop amid the clinking of mugs and cutlery and cool jazz music playing in the background. As expected, a young man clad in a mint green hoodie and jeans rushes up to the counter. His soft, ebony-black bangs fall over his coffee-brown eyes as he claims his drink from you with a muffled "thanks" before scurrying off again, black backpack hanging from his back and laptop case in hand.
"He came again?" Lia asks, popping a pastry into the oven and setting the timer.
You nod in response. “Na Jaemin. Here every morning, at the exact same time ordering the exact same thing”.
"Aren't many of our customers like this too?" Lia questions, uncertain as to why you suddenly brought up this particular customer.
"Yeah, but they're not always here at the exact same time every day – sometimes they come a few minutes earlier or later. And even if they have regular orders, they sometimes order different things. This guy is here at 7 am on the dot every day without fail, and he always, always orders a venti size cold brew. I don't recall him having ordered anything different," you explain to Lia as the timer on the oven goes off, and you take the croissant out.
"Wow, how are you so observant towards these details outside of his regular drink order? It's as if you're specifically keeping your eye out for his arrival. Are you?" Lia questions, raising her eyebrows at you.
"What the hell, no!" You hurriedly deny.
"But he's your ideal type, is he not? Brown eyes, black hair, pretty cute," Lia replies with a smirk as she gets to preparing a latte, and in that moment you regret the day you'd spoken about your ideal types to each other.
"I mean yes, but we don’t even know each other! We’ve barely exchanged any words apart from him mumbling his thanks to me when I pass him his drink,” you protest.
“So? He comes here every day, you’ll sure have a chance to get to know him better,” Lia insists.
“One grande caffe latte for Kai!” you call out, placing the drink on the counter and flashing a smile at the customer, who says a “thank you”, picks up the drink and casually saunters off, in contrast to how Jaemin had practically flown out the door after collecting his order from you earlier. “I don’t know. Compared to all our other customers, he seems to be in a constant rush. He’s like the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland!”
Still, Lia remains adamant. “Trust me, if he’s your destined soulmate, there will be a way for you both to get to know each other. Really”.
You shrug, getting to work making a java chip frappuccino. “Nah, I don’t think he is. He’s probably just the eye candy who comes into our shop every morning for his daily cold brew”.
Lia simply hums and turns around to take the next customer’s order, while a mild pang of longing settles in your heart. Yes, you knew he was really just eye candy to you, but a part of you wished that you’d at least be able to interact with him a little and get to know him as an acquaintance at least.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
Your wish comes true the next day — or at least the first part of it. You finally get to properly interact with him, past the muffled “thank yous” he would give you whenever you passed him his cold brew every morning.
But was it pleasant?
Far from that.
It’s about 2:30 pm in the afternoon, and the cafe is way more hectic than it should be at this time. Throngs of people flood the cafe, leaving all of the baristas overwhelmed, yourself included.
“I thought people drink morning coffee, not afternoon coffee!” Lia complains, practically sprinting to the other end of the counter, carrying a customer’s order on a black tray. “One blueberry muffin and one vanilla sweet cream cold brew for Shanice!”
“I know right. Suddenly everyone’s ordering their coffee in the afternoon for some weird reason!” you exclaim, hurrying to save the pastries in the oven before they burned to a crisp.
Your already-divided attention is briefly stolen by the sight of a familiar face coming in through the door — it’s none other than Na Jaemin. Weird, he already came in the morning, you think to yourself, already moving towards the cold brew machine out of instinct. You can’t help but notice he’s changed out of his usual hoodie and jeans into slacks, a white long-sleeved collared shirt and a blazer, more formal than the casual attire he normally dons, which leads you to think that he has something important on. As soon as you place the pastries on the counter, you head over to the register where Jaemin is to take his order. “Hi, what can I get for you?” you recite the standard phrase.
“One venti cold brew, please,” he states.
“Alright, I’ll get that for you. Na Jaemin, right?” you ask, picking up a venti-size cup and a marker, scribbling the name on as he nods.
You put some ice in the cup, and then stride over to where the brewed coffee is stored before dispensing enough to fill the cup. Just as you’re bringing it to the collection point, a voice calls for you. “Y/n! Hurry, there’s more orders!” one of your colleagues yells.
“Okay, coming soon!” you reply back, calling out Jaemin’s name and order, passing the drink to him and preparing to hurry off.
Only, you’d been too fast in handing the drink to him and had let go before his hands were properly around the cup, resulting in the cup falling from your hands and spilling coffee all over his shirt. Your jaw falls to the floor along with the cup as you watch his white shirt turn coffee-brown and prepare to offer multiple sincere apologies, maybe even offer to pay for his shirt to be cleaned.
But before you can do that, he hits the roof. “Ugh! I have a job interview, you idiot! Why are you so careless?” he exclaims, clearly livid. Veins bulge out visibly from his forehead, a clear sign of his fury. Heads snap in your direction as the commotion distracts customers from whatever they were doing previously.
Annoyance at how Jaemin had unnecessarily blown up at you, coupled with stress from the already overwhelming shift began to take over you, and you had to use every fiber in your being to maintain your professionalism and not hurl the best insult you could think of back at him. “Sir, I’m extremely sorry”. You murmur repeated apologies as you get several wet tissues for him. “I’ll be willing to pay for the cleaning costs, just let me know how much it costs when you next visit us”.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to appease Jaemin. “That’s not the point. I don’t have spare clothes, you know! Now I might not get my job!” Jaemin exclaims, eyes boring into you accusingly. Unsure of what to say, you remain silent, your mouth opening and closing like a goldfish’s. “Thanks a lot, I suppose,” he spits, making sure his sarcasm came across clearly. With that, he takes his half-empty drink cup and stalks off.
Meanwhile, you’re left with a taste that's even more bitter than the cold brew in your mouth from the encounter. “Wow, that was pretty rude of him,” Lia comments, coming up beside you. “Maybe you should have ensured that he was actually holding the cup before letting go, but that was still out of line on his end”.
You sigh, shaking your head and turning back to the cash register, preparing to serve the next customer. “Whatever. Let’s forget that this happened”.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
A week has passed since the incident, and you’ve all but forgotten about it, the incident almost having been cleared from your memory completely.
Until you see a familiar face coming in at 2:30 pm — none other than Na Jaemin, the customer who’d yelled at you rather rudely that day when you’d made an honest mistake. “Lia? Can you take this next customer? I’d rather not interact with him again,” you whisper to your co-worker while glaring daggers at him.
To your surprise, Lia shakes her head. “I don’t think he’s here to order, actually. I think he’s here for his first day on the job”.
You narrow your eyes at her as a sense of foreboding comes over you. “What do you mean?”
“He’s our new barista, and he’ll be working here part-time. Did no one tell you?” Lia explains, wiping the counter top. “The job interview he mentioned last week — it was for a position here as a barista”.
“No way. Please tell me you’re lying”. You feel your eyes grow to the size of the saucers in your hands.
She shakes her head. “I’m being for real here”.
You watch as your supervisor comes out to meet Jaemin and they exchange greetings, before she passes him a set of uniform and he heads to the restrooms. “Oh, my gosh”. Your hand comes up to your forehead, and your lips form a thin line as you feel your annoyance levels peak again. “No way I’m sharing shifts with this guy”.
Lia shrugs. “Maybe it won’t be as bad as you think. Hopefully he forgot that it was you who spilled coffee on him last week,” she says while placing a hand on your shoulder, in an effort to appease you.
At that moment, your supervisor comes out of the store room with Jaemin in tow and approaches you and the other baristas. “Everyone, this is our new employee, Na Jaemin,” she says, introducing him to all of you. “Some of you may know him, as he’s a regular at our cafe. He’ll be working the afternoon shift from Monday to Wednesday. I hope all of you look after him well, and show him the ropes”. She then takes her leave as Jaemin comes to join all of you behind the counter.
“Hello everyone,” Jaemin greets, his pearly whites appearing as he gives all of you a small bow. So cute! You internally squeal as you greet him back. It was the first time you’d seen him properly smile, as every time he ordered coffee from you, his face had this permanently exhausted look on it thanks to what you can only assume to be the university student life. You return his greeting, relaxing as you realise that maybe Lia was right and he’d forgotten about the incident.
Or…maybe not.
“Aren’t you the barista who spilled my drink on me last week?” Jaemin questions as he pours milk into a blender, eyes narrowing into slits as he stares at you. “How do you still have a job? You can’t even serve a drink properly”.
Okay, that does it for you. First day on the job and he’s already being so rude?
“Can you just forget about it? You got the job in the end, didn’t you?” you snap, making your annoyance clear as you somewhat aggressively spray whipped cream onto a customer’s drink. “Also why are you showing disrespect to colleagues on your first day here? How did you even get hired?”
Jaemin shrugs, and you feel a vexation prick at the back of your neck at his nonchalant attitude. “Bold of you to talk about respect, considering you were pretty disrespectful to me last week by spilling my own drink order on me”.
"Shut the fuck up, will you?" you hiss, trying to keep your voice from rising to fever pitch, in order to not attract unpleasant attention to the both of you.
Jaemin opens his mouth to retort, but Lia steps in. “Enough, you two. Let’s just move on from the incident, shall we? I’m sure she didn’t mean to do that”.
Shooting her a grateful look, you move over to the shelf to grab a tea bag to prepare a customer’s order. “Not quite your ideal type anymore, huh?” Lia whispers from next to you as she washes a mug.
Cringing, you shake your head furiously. “Appearance wise, still yes. Personality-wise, definitely not”.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
Ever since Jaemin joined the team, it was almost like you couldn’t have a peaceful day at work, especially since you and Jaemin always shared the same shifts. Both of you were constantly at each other's throats now, even over small things, and today wasn't any different.
“Y/n! You didn’t heat this up long enough!” Jaemin hollers, gesturing to the chocolate chip cookie on the counter top.
Rolling your eyes, you turn around to address him. “You didn’t serve it on time and it’s cooled down, you idiot. Also, Seungkwan asked for an extra espresso shot, which you didn’t add in. Who’s the one who can’t do his job properly now, huh? I hope the boss fires you one of these days”.
As a look of hurt flashes across Jaemin’s face for a fleeting moment, you feel a small pang of guilt hit you. Jaemin covers it up by rolling his eyes at you and muttering “piece of shit”, before moving over to add the extra espresso shot as you shove the plate with the cookie on it into the oven again. At that moment, his ringtone sounds out, and he takes his phone out of his apron pocket. Colour drains from his face at the sight of the caller ID, and he hurriedly excuses himself to the storeroom, leaving you to man the counter yourself since both Lia and the other barista weren’t able to make it to work today. “Hi, what can I get for you?” you inquire, plastering a smile on your face and turning to face the customer, who asks for a cappuccino.
You open up the mini-fridge below the counter, only to find that there’s no more milk left. No big deal, you could always get more from the bigger fridge in the store room. Heading over to the store room, you push the door open and prepare to step inside when Jaemin’s voice stops you in your tracks. “…what? The surgery costs that much? I thought it was cheaper…”
Peeking through the door slightly, you’re greeted by the sight of Jaemin pacing around the small room and clutching onto a handful of his black hair. From his tone and demeanour, it was evident that he was in a clear state of stress. "Yes, I got the job, but I don't think my earnings from the shifts I'm working currently can cover the costs". Another pause. "It's alright. I'll just ask the supervisor if I can work more shifts. It's more important that grandma gets well. Okay, bye. Send my well-wishes to her".
Jaemin turns around and you dart back out of the room to avoid being seen, but you still catch a glimpse of the tear drops falling from his eyes, sending a pang to your heart. Sure, you both argued all the time at work, but it didn't mean that you had no empathy for him at all, now that you had an idea of his circumstances — even if it was a vague one. You recall when he lashed out at you for spilling coffee on him just before his interview, and now you're able to better understand his reaction, thanks to the newly learned information about his grandmother’s situation. Yes, his reaction was still rude and unnecessarily harsh, but he was going through a stressful time himself. Guilt floods you suddenly as you think of all the times you'd flung harsh words at him for no reason.
As Jaemin emerges from the store room, you enter and get the milk and start preparing the customer's drink, all while this question replayed in your head: what could you do to help him?
"Y/n!" a clear voice sounds from the cash register, and you recognise it to be your regular customer and best friend from junior college – Chaewon.
Enthusiastically returning her greeting, you inquire about her order. "Chae! What would you like today?"
Chaewon scans the menu and makes her decision. "I'll get a tall strawberry frappuccino, no whipped, takeaway".
"No problem!" You answer, and prepare the drink for her as she goes to the side to wait. "One tall strawberry frappuccino for Chaewon!" you announce, and your friend skips up to collect her drink.
"Thank you! Here's a tip for you – you deserve it," Chaewon adds with a wink as she stuffs a wad of notes into your hand before sauntering away. "See you in class tomorrow!"
"See you Chae!" you call back. You head into the store room, intending to keep the money in your wallet, until the sight of Jaemin's wallet peeking out of his backpack catches your attention. A thought then hits you: why not give the tips I get to Jaemin? He needs it more than I do, anyway.
Without a second thought, your hands are already pulling the wallet out of his bag and stashing the tip Chaewon gave you into the wallet. Putting the wallet back where it was, you stride out of the room again as if nothing happened. Yeah, I'll keep doing this. Hopefully it helps to ease Jaemin's financial burden, you think to yourself.
Thankfully, the rest of the day goes by without a hitch. “Y/n! Good job today, just finish the last order and then you can go,” your supervisor comments, giving you a small smile. “Here’s today’s pay. See you tomorrow!” she finishes, passing you an envelope which contained your day’s earnings.
“Thank you so much ma’am! See you tomorrow!” You reply, calling for the last customer and then heading off to the store room to collect your bag. Peeking inside, you catch Jaemin gawking at his open wallet, prompting you to just stay outside and observe his reaction for a while. "No way. I don't remember receiving any tips. So how did this cash appear?" he asks himself, opening and closing his wallet repeatedly – even slapping himself at one point. "Oh my goodness. Whichever supernatural power provided me with this, thank you," he whispers, putting his cash into his wallet before shutting it again and placing it in his bag. His stressed expression melts away, and is replaced by a smile – one of relief and hope. The sight makes your heart rate increase faster than you'd like to admit, but you ignore it and exit the coffee shop, glad that you were able to do something to brighten up Jaemin's day.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
Jaemin had gotten the green light from your supervisor to work extra shifts, so over the next few weeks you both see each other more often as all his shifts coincide with yours. Though both of you are still rather cold towards each other, you argue less with him as you force yourself to hold your tongue whenever you're tempted to spew unkind things at him, knowing that he was going through a rough time.
And of course, you continue with your plan of secretly giving him all the tips that customers leave you – whether it was sixty cents or fifty bucks.
Today's just another day at work, and you overhear Jaemin on the phone as you're busy whipping up drinks for customers again. "Oh my gosh, no way".
Though you know it’s technically wrong, the saying “eavesdroppers never hear any good about themselves” leaves your memory momentarily as you prick up your ears to listen to the conversation, hoping that it was news about his grandmother. As his voice raises in pitch and grows increasingly excited, you feel your heart begin to beat faster as well, like the wings of a bird about to take off. "We only need $50 more and she can get surgery? That's fantastic news!"
Your heart swelled with joy, so much so that you thought it would burst right there and then in the cafe. Jaemin's grandmother would be saved! Though you didn't know the elderly woman, hearing the news still made you nearly melt in relief.
"Thank you, see you again!" you flash a bright smile to a customer as you hand them their order.
"Thank you! Here's a tip for you!" the customer replies and hands you some cash. Accepting it gratefully, you take a peek at it, and your heart leaps even higher than before at the sight. It's a fifty dollar note!
"Just what Jaemin needs!" you whisper to yourself, stashing the note in your pocket and making a mental note to put the money in his wallet when the day was over, since it was a very busy time at the cafe right now.
As promised, you secretly stash the note in his wallet again after your shift is over. Hopefully, this covers the costs of the surgery, you think to yourself as you pull the wallet out, unclasp it and stuff the money in.
“Wait, it’s you?” A familiar voice sounds from behind you, making you jump and whip your head around at breakneck speed as his wallet falls out of your grip and onto the floor with a clatter.
“Jaemin?” you blurt out dumbly, stunned by your colleague’s sudden appearance.
“Y/n? It’s you who’s been giving me the extra money?” Jaemin responds, seemingly even more astonished by the whole situation than you were.
It’s at this moment you realise there’s no point hiding it from him any further — he’d already discovered the "culprit" behind the extra money appearing in his wallet. “Yes, it’s me,” you sigh, handing his wallet back to him. “Look, I'm really sorry about this, but I happened to overhear your phone converstion with someone one day, and you were saying something about there not being enough money to send your grandmother for some kind of surgery or something like that. You seemed so sad and I just couldn’t bear to see it because I know it must be so stressful, having a family member who’s severely ill and not having financial means to get them treatment. So I thought I’d just quietly help you by giving you whatever tips customers left for me — I don’t really need the extra money right now. I did all this secretly, because I was worried you’d accuse me of purposefully eavesdropping or pitying you if you knew what I was doing. Also, it’d be awkward if I were to suddenly start intervening in your family matters since we’re both not really on good terms right now,” you explain, attempting to clear the air of confusion by explaining your intentions.
For a few moments, the only sound in the store room is the drone of whatever machinery is keeping the old fridge running as Jaemin slowly processes what you'd just told him. Finally, he speaks up. "Y/n, you have absolutely no idea how much that means to me. I was so, so worried when I found out the actual cost of the surgery, and that we might not be able to pay for it on time for my grandmother to survive. For so many nights, I couldn't sleep for so long because I was so worried," he explains. "But thanks to your kind donations, we'll be able to pay for it before she gets it today. Words alone can't express my gratitude to you. Really". He looks up and meets your gaze, and his eyes are moist with emotion.
Your lips curve into a gentle smile. "I'm glad I could help, Jaemin. I hope your grandmother's surgery goes well, and for her to have a speedy and stable recovery," you answer.
"I'm going to the hospital to visit her now, so I'll convey your well wishes to her. See you tomorrow, y/n". As he leaves the store room, he shows you a genuine smile, the first one he'd shown you ever since you both became coworkers.
Your heart melts at the sight, like the marshmallows you used to top orders of hot chocolate. "See you tomorrow, Jaemin". You return his smile, and continue to pack your own things as well before you leave the cafe. As much as you don't want to admit, for some reason this much more pleasant interaction has you using every single ounce of your willpower to stop yourself from squealing out in joy.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
"Y/n!" A familiar voice calls out to you as you start up the coffee machine next Monday morning.
"Oh hey, Jaemin!" You reply calmly as said boy comes up to you, looking much more relaxed and confident, compared to the usual worried and downcast expression etched on his face that had been the norm for the past few weeks.
"Excuse me," he murmurs, reaching out for the coffee machine and dispensing some into the plastic cup in his hand that was half-filled with ice, before calmly sipping on the beverage. "By the way, my grandmother's surgery was a success, and the doctor's prognosis for her looks good," Jaemin reveals, officially putting your worries about his grandmother to rest.
"Really? That's awesome!" you exclaim, sharing your coworker's joy over the good news.
Jaemin nods, a radiant smile forming on his face as he continues. "On behalf of the rest of my family, thank you so much. I know this probably isn't much, but please, let me treat you to a meal one day".
Though you initially refute his suggestion and say it's not necessary, arguing that you were simply helping him out in his time of need, you eventually give in to his insistence. "How is she now? Is she recovering from surgery well?" you inquire as you pile marshmallows onto a cup of hot chocolate.
"Yes, when I visited her yesterday, she had regained some of her appetite, and though she still seemed quite tired, she had slightly more energy than before, which are good signs," Jaemin replies, blending a matcha frappuccino. "Actually, do you want to come with me to visit her after work today?"
"Why not? I don't have anything on today, so I should be able to come," you reply.
"Alright then!" Jaemin grins, before turning and calling for the customer to pick up their order.
You return your attention to the drink you were making, totally surprised by your exchange with Jaemin earlier — much more pleasant compared to the interactions you’d had prior to this day. Maybe the saying your teachers had drilled into your head since elementary school was true. A small act of kindness could turn a situation around — in this case, it helped Jaemin’s family afford a life-saving surgery for his grandmother, and helped you and Jaemin warm up to each other.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
Before you both go to visit his grandmother, Jaemin insists on treating you to a sumptuous burger dinner. Which is how you both end up at a restaurant, with the juiciest chicken burger you've ever seen in your life, along with fries that have been fried to crisp golden brown perfection and a cup of iced lemon tea.
“How’s life been?” Jaemin asks, tucking into his own burger.
“Oh, it’s been quite chill. I just finished my graduating exam not long ago and am waiting for my results to come out, so I don’t really have much to do. That’s why I took on this job — to earn some money and pass my time,” you explain, picking up a few fries and popping them into your mouth, savouring the crunch that followed. “What about you?”
“University’s been kicking my ass,” Jaemin groans. “The professors have gone ham on my class — who gives their students freaking five essays to finish in a week? On top of that, I’ve got frisbee practices after school and also this job. Luckily my grandmother’s condition has stabilised, or else I’d have even more stress to deal with,” he adds.
“Oh my, that sounds tough. All the best,” you grunt empathetically, knowing exactly how he felt. Though you had never studied in a university, you’d just finished junior college, and had experienced days where the onslaught of homework seemed never ending, leaving you feeling as if you were going to suffocate to death under the workload that only seemed to get heavier and heavier each day. “Oh yeah — speaking of your grandmother, what exactly happened to her? If you’re not comfortable sharing this with me, please don’t feel obligated to do so,” you hurriedly add at the end. You were aware that this was a very sensitive topic, and that Jaemin might wish to keep such matters to himself.
“About that…” Jaemin’s voice trails off, and he scratches his head as he contemplates whether to tell you or not. “Okay. I’ll tell you, since you’re the one who basically saved her life,” he decides, before beginning his story. “It was cancer. Stomach cancer. She lost her appetite, and often complained of stomach pain. Initially, we thought that it was simply a stomach bug, and we took her to the doctor who just prescribed her some medication. But she didn’t improve — if anything, she got worse. The day she began vomiting blood, we knew that something was terribly wrong. A check up at the hospital revealed that she had stage 3 stomach cancer”.
“Oh gosh, that’s horrible,” you muse, brows forming a furrow in the center of your forehead.
“It was. Our whole family was devastated, especially knowing that she wouldn’t have any chance of survival unless she went for surgery. But at that point of time, my dad had just been laid off, meaning that we weren’t able to afford to pay for the operation. Hence we began scrimping and saving, with my dad taking on three jobs in order to try to earn some money. My mother took on two odd jobs, while also having to look after my younger siblings at home. I was really anxious about my grandmother, and I felt terrible seeing how exhausted my parents were. So, I decided to do whatever I can to help, which is why I took on this job, thinking that the salary I’d earn would be sufficient. But the hospital called back to say that the cost of the surgery would actually be more expensive than we initially thought, since my grandmother’s case was extra complicated, and it sent me back into a panic because I knew that even with extra shifts, the money I earned might not even be able to cover the costs. Gosh, I’m so glad it’s over,” Jaemin finishes, breathing out a sigh. The tears that had welled up in his eyes, now pouring out like rain, spoke volumes just how bleak that period had been for Jaemin.
The sight of him tearing up made your heart ache. “I’m so sorry you guys went through that,” you murmur, reaching over to rub his shoulder to comfort him. “That must have been so tough. Fortunately, you guys were able to afford the procedure in the end. You're so strong".
Jaemin nods. “And it’s all thanks to you”.
“Now I know why you were so worked up that day,” you add, thinking back to the day when you’d had your first proper interaction with Jaemin.
A quizzical look comes upon Jaemin’s face. “Which day?”
“The day you came to the cafe for your job interview. I spilled your drink on you, remember?” you remind him, a sheepish smile gracing your features.
Jaemin's brows furrow as he searches his brain, trying to recall the moment you had mentioned. His eyes widen, and he snaps his fingers as the memory returns to him. "Oh! Right! Oh my, I still feel so bad about it, jeez," he exclaims, his palm meeting his forehead. "I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have lashed out at you like that over such a small thing. I think that's why our relationship has been so sour".
"No, no, it's fine. That was in the past, was it not?" you say, reassuring Jaemin that you don't hold any grudges against him over past events. “I’m sorry too, for saying that I hoped the boss would fire you, when it was a time when you needed this job most”.
“It’s alright. Honestly, I don’t even have any memory of that incident, anyway,” Jaemin chuckles, popping the last of his fries into his mouth. “You done? Let’s go, then,” he decides as you nod.
At the hospital, you get to know Jaemin’s grandmother. She took the chance to express her thanks towards you for donating the money that went towards her life-saving surgery. "Jaemin told me all about it," she mentions. "Thank you so much. Make sure to treat her to something nice," she adds, directing her comment towards Jaemin.
"He already has, and besides, there's no need for it," you chuckle. "I’m just happy that I could help".
Your evening ends with you and Jaemin spending an hour chatting with the affable elderly lady over the happenings in your lives, who was a pleasure to talk to. "Thank you for coming over to visit! I hope to see you again, y/n. You're coming again tomorrow, right?" she confirms with Jaemin.
"Yep, that's right. See you tomorrow, grandma. Have a good rest," he replies, giving his grandmother a hug before leading you out of the ward and shutting the door.
The walk out of the hospital is silent, but this time it's a comfortable silence and not one that's permeated by a frosty, cold atmosphere. "So…coming tomorrow?" Jaemin asks, breaking the silence.
"I think I can come," you reply. "I should be free. If you and your grandmother are okay with that, of course," you hastily add.
Jaemin snorts and chortles at your answer. "Of course I'm alright with it! Why would I ask you if I wasn't? And plus my grandmother literally just said she hopes to see you again," he replies.
"Alright then, I'll come," you confirm, laughs pouring out of your mouth as well. From relentlessly firing abrasive remarks at each other to being able to laugh together, you and Jaemin's relationship sure had come a long way.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
In the days that follow, you find yourself tagging along with Jaemin to visit his grandmother more often whenever you're free after work, and having dinner with him after. Through these interactions, both of you grow closer, and the fluttering in your heart whenever he cracks a joke or pulls a silly antic increases in frequency, which you often try to suppress. As much as you try to deny it, you’ve grown fonder of him as the days go by, as he shows more and more of his true self to you.
It's also no surprise that now the old lady sees you as her own granddaughter, and often treats you as such. You came to trust her with whatever was on your mind as well, sharing with her deeper things that were on your heart and mind and taking the sensible advice she offered. She would also humour you with many different stories, from both her own and Jaemin's childhood.
Today, however, was slightly different. You had gone to visit Jaemin's grandmother by yourself, since Jaemin had to attend a project meeting with his group mates after work. So here you were, seated in a chair beside her bed and laughing out loud as she let you in on some of the embarrassing things Jaemin had done in his childhood.
"You know, Jaemin used to be so shy to talk to girls when he was a child. Last time, he'd come and hide behind me whenever girls tried to talk to him. I would have to coax him out just to say hi!" she explains, chortling as she relates the memory to you and your eyes go wide. Jaemin seemed so comfortable around you, you'd never have known that he was so shy as a kid.
"Really?" you ask, letting the surprise sink in.
"Yes, really," his grandmother confirms. "And whenever he liked any girl he never ever made any move to confess. He simply kept his feelings to himself and only ever spoke to me about them".
"Wow, I didn't know," you laugh.
"Yeah, Jaemin was terribly shy as a child. Come to think of it, you're the only girl he's been this comfortable with," she adds. "I actually think he feels a certain way towards you, but he doesn't want to say anything," she adds.
"How would you know?" You inquire, brows furrowing in surprise. Surely she was wrong?
"He's always bringing you along on his visits, if you're available. And when you're not, it seems to make him feel a bit sad," the old lady begins explaining. "Every visit, he has to mention at least one thing about you – even if it's as small as the smile you gave him when he arrived at work".
"Oh…I see". You falter in your reply, unsure of how to process what his grandmother had just told you.
"And when I tried asking him about it, he tried so hard to deny his own feelings for you. But I can read my grandson, you know. He likes you more than a friend, but he doesn't want to say anything. He's too shy, and he’s scared that he’ll spoil the friendship between you two," his grandmother adds, before shooting you a question that catches you off guard. "Do you feel the same towards him too?"
"Well I- I…" you stutter even more, unsure of your response. "Okay, maybe I do. At first it was purely due to his looks, because I always saw him order from us during my shifts and found him really handsome. But as I got to know him better, I found things about his personality attractive too. Like how he loves his family so much, he'd willingly sacrifice more of his limited time to work extra shifts to provide the money they need. And how gentle he is towards the people he cares about. There's more, but if I were to list them all I'll be here past visiting hours," you joke, while at the same time voicing your true thoughts and feelings about Jaemin.
His grandmother nods, processing your answer. "I see. From my previous interactions with you, I can tell that you're a sensible, compassionate young lady as well, and I think you'd be a good match for my grandson. Now that you know he feels the same way towards you, will you be bold and take the first step to tell him your feelings?" she asks, looking up at you with hope in her eyes.
“I…” you trail off, not knowing if you should accede to her request. On one hand, you had come to terms with the fact that you fancied Jaemin more than a friend, and what you felt was probably not just a fleeting crush, and you badly wished to get these feelings off your chest. On the other hand, you were immensely worried about what would happen if you told Jaemin these things.
That he would see you differently.
That he’d reject you, and you’d have to deal with the sting that would come after.
That the friendship between both of you would be affected.
There was just so much to worry about!
“Y/n, I know what you’re thinking. I know you’re worried about his reaction,” Jaemin’s grandmother drawls understandingly. “But trust me, he’s thinking the exact same things as you, and because of that he’s not willing to make the first move. So, now the ball is in your court. Are you willing to take that risk?” She asks, her gaze on you unmoving.
“I…I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it,” you answer honestly.
His grandmother nods, grunting in understanding. “Alright then, if you wish. There’s no pressure on you to do anything, really. The choice is really yours. But believe me — it would make his day”.
That day, you left the hospital in the biggest dilemma you’ve been in for a long while.
»»————- ☕️ ————-««
It doesn’t take too long for you to make up your mind.
“I’m gonna do it”. You declare, striding out of the store room as you tie up your apron. It’s a monday morning, and you’re back at work again.
“Do what?” Lia asks, a quizzical expression coming over her.
“I’m gonna shoot my shot”.
At this, Lia lets the plastic cups in her hand clatter to the floor. “You’re what?”
You move quickly to help her pick up the cups. “I said what I said. I’m shooting my shot today”.
“Yes, yes, I heard you, but with who?” Lia speaks quickly, looking as if she’s just heard the most ridiculous new in her life.
“Na Jaemin, duh,” you answer, stacking the plastic cups up where they should be.
“You’re- no way.”
“Yes way. I’ve decided I’m gonna take my chances today, and if it doesn’t go as planned- oh well, what’s the worst that could happen? At most, I get rejected and I lose a friend,” you reason, explaining your thought process — though more so to try and calm your nerves than to appease Lia’s curiosity. Truth be told, you were becoming extremely jumpy, and you felt like you were going to begin bouncing off the walls any moment.
“Are you insane? There is no way on earth he’s going to reject you!” Lia exclaims, staring at you incredulously. “If he rejects you, it means the sky’s gonna fall down tomorrow”.
“How are you so sure?” you question, narrowing your eyes into slits as you stare at her.
“It’s so obvious, duh. I can practically see hearts in his eyes whenever he looks at you!” she answers as she gives the countertop a quick wipedown with a cloth. “Bet he’s too shy to speak his mind, though”.
You shrug in response, arranging a few more mugs on the countertop. “I don’t know. But I’ll see how everything goes”.
“It’ll be more than fine. Trust me,” Lia declares. “But anyway, what’s your plan?”
You whisper your plan into her ear, and her brows furrow disapprovingly. “That’s it? That’s so basic, y/n!” she groans.
“Hey, basic isn’t always bad!” you exclaim, shoving her playfully. “If it works, it works, okay!”
“Whatever”. Lia rolls her eyes jokingly. “But just know I’m rooting for the both of you”.
Fortunately, Jaemin shows up to work punctually, meaning that your plan can be put into action.
“Psst, Jaemin,” you whisper, waving your hand in front of his face. “Earth to Jaemin”.
“Sorry, what?” Jaemin responds, snapping out of his momentary trance.
You can’t help but laugh at his stunned response. “Looks like the mid-afternoon coma is hitting us both — I feel it too. So, I was thinking we make each other a coffee of our choice, just to perk ourselves up. What do you say?”
“Why not? I need the caffeine fix real bad right now anyway,” he reasons, standing up from his chair and moving to where the cups and mugs were placed. “Hot, iced, or ice blended?” he asks.
“Surprise me”. You simply respond, flashing him a grin. “And I’ll surprise you too”.
With that, you both begin whipping up drinks for each other.
You decide to make him a venti vanilla sweet cream cold brew, since his usual order is a cold brew, but you also know that he’s been obsessed with iced vanilla lattes recently — so why not combine the best of both worlds? Being aware that he enjoys having a stronger coffee taste in his drinks, you make his drink a little less sweet.
This is where your plan comes to life. Picking up a marker, you write this on the cup, taking care to write where the vanilla cream is visible:
Be mine?
▢ yes
▢ no
Now, all that’s left to do is to wait for Jaemin to finish with yours, pass him the drink, and then wait for his response.
It sounds so simple in theory, so why do my hands feel heavy as lead now? You question mentally as Jaemin reappears, looking slightly sheepish. “Y/n? I’m done with yours, are you finished with mine?” he asks softly.
“Yes, of course! Here you go,” you exclaim, pass him the cup of cold brew and take your drink, trying to hide how your hands are shaking as if a 9.2 magnitude earthquake is taking place on them.
The sight of your drink sends a new wave of butterflies flying right through you, while at the same time causing a laugh to bubble up in you, which you fight to keep down.
Jaemin had made you a classic latte, but with a hilarious yet heartwarming twist. He’d clearly given his best shot at latte art, as shown from the words on the drink which have now almost dissolved into illegible, messy foam streaks. Fortunately for you, you’re still able to comprehend it.
It’s the exact same thing that you wrote on his cup.
You peek in Jaemin’s direction and catch sight of him gawking at the writing on his cup. “Y/n…” he trails off, his facial expression a clear giveaway of the shock he’s feeling. “I can’t believe we were thinking the exact same thing!” he exclaims, before bursting into guffaws.
“I can’t believe it either,” you respond, now laughing your head off along with him. “Gosh, and to think I was so afraid to do this!”
“So was I!” Jaemin chuckles, sipping on the drink. “If only I knew you had almost the exact same plans as I had”.
“Well…I guess our answers to each other are obvious then,” you giggle. By now, you’re smiling so widely, the corners of your mouth could reach your ears, and you feel as if your whole chest is going to explode with how fast and hard your heart is pounding.
“Well then, cheers to our newfound love for each other,” Jaemin declares, raising his cup and pulling you in for a side hug, all while gazing at you lovingly.
“Cheers,” you respond, bringing your cup to his as you lean closer to him, resting your head on his shoulder as you soak up the warmth of his embrace.

Omg I would love a Jamie Tartt x reader where the readers ex boyfriend was a footballer maybe a goalie and Jamie has to play against him in a match. I know it’s very vague but I’d love to see what you’d do! No pressure!! :))
I loved this request! Hope I did it justice
Tumblr media
would hit him in a heartbeat now
You do not have a thing for footballers you swear. It just happens. You’ve been in exactly three and a half relationships, and only one of them was not a footballer.
He was a coach.
Anyway.
You would describe your type as lovable asshole, but your friends would leave out the lovable. Because of that, none of your splits have been exactly… amicable. Well, that’s not true. Your situationship had been sweet but wrong timing, and though it hurt, there were no hard feelings.
Really, you were both in your late teens and he was scouted early on, so it was never going to work out. You always keep up with his career though, a part of you secretly cheering him on even if he plays against your boyfriend’s team. From time to time, you think about texting him to see if he has the same number, but the next day you see him splashed in a tabloid, making out with Keeley Jones, so you leave it.
Six months later, you’re in a relationship with a West Ham goalie named Aleksander.
Seven months after that, he’s broken your heart by telling you you weren’t the right material for a footballer’s girlfriend.
Over text.
While you are at an away game.
Against AFC Richmond.
Eight minutes later you turn off the part of your brain that cares, dig out Jamie Tartt’s old number, and write, hey! not sure if this is still your number, but I’ll be at your game today and wanted to wish you luck. - the original number 9.
Your house number had been 9 when you first met Jamie. He’d write you notes addressed to 9. For example:
9 -
Meet me at our spot at 8?
10 <3
(He called himself a 10/10).
Ten hours later, you are sitting across from Jamie in a pub, laughing about growing up and whatever, all thoughts of Aleksander firmly gone from your head.
He asks you out after flirting for eleven days.
You and Jamie have a certain level of comfortability that comes with knowing someone for so long. Neither of you feel like you have to pretend. You just live with each other, and it is the best.
You’re on your fifth date, and second one at his house when, as you get up to go, he catches your hand and says, “Stay,” in a voice made gravelly by kisses.
You let him pull you back on the couch, and you do.
You end up staying a lot.
You’re together for a year, when, sitting on that same couch, Jamie says, “Playin’ West Ham next week.”
The marker in your hand slips from where you were coloring his tattoo. “What?”
“We go against West Ham next week. Wanna come?” Jamie asks, oblivious.
You trace the design on his right forearm. “I do, it’s just- Aleksander’s gonna be there. As their goalie. And I’d rather not be there to hear what he has to say to me.” You look up at Jamie. “It’s not because I don’t want to be there for you. It’s that- well, he, he always has things to say about his exes. And it’s not kind. I don’t really think I can handle it right now, you know?”
Jamie looks at you thoughtfully and nods, slipping his hand into yours.
“D’you want to stay here while I’m gone? ’Stead of hanging around your flatmate. Might be nice to have a break.”
You smile, squeeze his hand and reply, “Sure!” grateful that he’s not pushing it.
Jamie grins back. “Good, I hate coming home to an empty house. Always hearing sounds like there’s ghosts or some shit.”
You laugh and shove his arm playfully. “And here I thought you were being completely selfless.”
It’s the day of the West Ham game. You’ve stolen one of Jamie’s jerseys from his closet and are on the couch with the largest bowl of popcorn known to mankind. You’re a little nervous to see Aleksander on the screen, but it’s overshadowed by your excitement to see Jamie play.
A quarter into the game, Jamie starts making his move. The team gets the ball near the goal, he shoots and-
He’s blocked by Aleksander.
Aleksander goes up to Jamie, and from your screen you see him ask a question and then make a lewd gesture.
Jamie’s face goes bright red and in an instant, Colin is holding him back from hitting Aleksander.
You see Jamie be pulled away, then watch him jog over to the coaches. Here’s what you don’t see:
“Permission to be a prick, coach,” Jamie says, still seeing red. How dare that dickhead say something so disgusting about you.
“Fuck no,” Roy says in a tone that says no arguing.
“Coach,” Jamie says, because he’s never been one for self-preservation, “if you don’t tell me to be a prick, I’m going to be one all by meself, so I really think it’s better if you just give me permission.”
Ted, Beard, and Roy look at each other. Ted nods. “Alright Jamie, if you think that’s best then I guess, uh,” he holds up his middle finger behind his jacket. Roy and Beard follow suit, and Jamie smiles.
The game’s back on and you watch Jamie get going again. He kicks the ball and it hits Aleksander in the worst possible spot.
“Ooh!” You cover your mouth with your hands. That looks like an accident, but you know it’s not. There was a closeup of Jamie, and you can see that glint in his eye. He’s being a little prick.
He goes up to Aleksander to “check on him,” and whispers something in his ear. Aleksander, still doubled over in pain, nods. Jamie slaps him on the back a little too forcefully, then swaggers away, tongue out.
You’re going to ask him about it when he gets home.
Richmond loses, and when Jamie walks into his house you’re on him in a moment. His hands are tangled in your hair and you’re tugging on his shirt and it’s not till three hours later, as you’re laying in bed playing with his hair, that he says, “I don’t regret it.”
It takes you a moment. “What?”
Jamie’s laying on top of you so he pushes himself up a bit to meet your eyes. “I don’t regret kicking that ball into that dickhead’s dick. I just wish I could have kicked him harder.”
“What happened out there, Jaim? You were mad-mad.”
He shakes his head slightly. “What do you think? That fuckin prick asked me a dirty question about you, and I lost it. Didn’t care about the game anymore. Didn’t want him to think he could fuckin get away with it.”
He looks so distraught and sincere that you can’t help it, you have to kiss that look off his face.
“I love you, Jamie Tartt,” you whisper. His face turns devilish.
“Mind showing me just how much?” he asks and you dissolve in a fit of giggles as he begins to pepper kisses along your neck.

Reimagining the Characters in Wish
(Part 4- The 7 teens)
Tumblr media
Yup, you read that right, I’m rewriting AAAAALL these fellas, or rather, just giving more substance to them because as they were in the movie we barely got CHARACTERS, just a 7 dwarfs reference, heck, I doubt y’all remember their names.
If you’re new here, hi, I’m rewriting all the characters in Wish before I start sharing my rewrite, here’s part 1, part 2 and part 3.
Now you may wonder, why am I even keeping the concept of the 7 teens in my rewrite, when just scrapping them all together would make my life so much easier instead of writing lines of dialogue and character motives to all of them?
Well the answer is that I like to make myself suffer I think they actually have a lot of potential, and I really like their designs.
Sooo lets meet the gang.
Who are the 7 teens?
So in my rewrite, the 7 teens will be a little bit more than just Asha’s best friends. Because each one of them will be the sons and daughters of some members of the royal staff.
I’ll be specifying in this blog the following things about each one of them:
- Their personality.
- Who their parents are.
- How they met Asha.
- What purpose will they serve in the story.
So buckle up because this blog might get a lil bit long hahaha I regret this already.
Dahlia 🍪
Tumblr media
- Dahlia is a 17 year old girl, she has mobility issues, so she has to use a crutch to walk.
- She’s very organized and proactive, always doing her best to get things done. She’s often the one who takes the lead when planning things for her friends such as surprise birthday parties or deciding where to hang out (or whatever teenagers did back then aside from dying from the plague).
- She has an habit of making lists with the step by step of everything she has planned, which her friends find pretty amusing. Her ideas always turn out to be a lot of fun, although she really needs to learn how to let go of this need of control and just let things play out naturally.
(She’s kinda like Twilight Sparkle… this will not be the last time I’ll mention a My Little Pony character in this blog)
- Sometimes when things don’t go according to plan or she gets anxious she starts stuttering and replacing words
(much like how Doc from Snow White did constantly, I’m shocked they didn’t reference that once in the movie, it’s such an awkward teenager thing to do)
“Asha! We shook— I mean LOOKED everywhere for you la-last night! Why would you fun- I MEAN RUN away from the hackle like that??”
“… I think you mean castle-“
“YOU KNOW WHAT I MEANT”
- But overall she’s a very kind and supportive friend to Asha, something they both have in common is that they enjoy working hard to achieve their goals, even though Dahlia still wants to give her wish for the king.
- I might’ve made her come off as a bit of a control freak but really she’s very easygoing and kind. Even when things don’t go according to plan she knows anything with her friends will be fun and work out in the end.
Even if what doesn’t go according to plan is a heist mission to infiltrate the castle?
She’s the daughter of the royal cooks
- Her mother is the royal baker and her father is the royal lead chef.
- They both work in the castle, and Dahlia sometimes goes with them to lend a hand when they’re short staffed or to learn the family business.
- Dahlia has witnessed first hand how the royal couple can be not so sweet when they’re away from the public eyes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
King Magnifico: Diner yesterday was absolutely dreadful, what happened? Have I granted your wish to be the greatest chef in the land for nothing?
Dahlia’s father: m-my deepest apologies sire, you see, the queen took all the salt from our storage yesterday to make her potions so-
King Magnifico: Blaming my wife for your incompetence now, I see
Dahlia’s father: n-no! I’d neve-
King Magnifico: If you got no salt, find a work around, I’ll not be accepting any less than the finest meals from you, was I clear? Dismissed.
Dahlia: … Dad, that wasn’t your fault, you can’t let him talk to you like that.
Dahlia’s father: He’s the king, Dahlia, he’s always right. Besides, it’s thanks to him granting my wish that I know how to cook at all, the least I can do is not disappoint him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Because she got to see this behavior, it’s easier for her to believe when Asha tells her the king and queen’s true colors.
- She’s expected to follow her parent’s foot steps, and become a great cook, but all she really knows how to bake is cookies.
- She sees cooking a lot more as a past time than something she’ll be doing for the rest of her life, but she doesn’t want to let her parents down, she keeps trying to develop some interest in cooking, so she can wish to be a great cook once she turns 18
(Just wishing for it without having truly the interest in cooking wouldn’t work, because a wish has to be something that you really want and comes from the bottom of your heart)
She was the first one that met Asha
- Dahlia was helping her mom sell her baking goods to the neighborhood, so she went all by herself with a little cart carrying a bunch of sweets (like a Girl Scout)
- She knocked on Asha’s house and was greeted by lil 6 year old Asha with her grandpa, they bought some sweets, but as she was walking away Asha noticed she was having some trouble carrying the cart while walking with her crutch.
- Asha looked at her grandfather who gave her a reassuring nod.
- Asha offered to help Dahlia carry the cart.
- They talked while they walked door to door for a while, and after there were no more sweets in the cart they went to play together, and that’s how they became best friends.
She will be the leader
- I mentioned briefly in my blog about reimagining Asha that after her grandfather passed away she started living with Dahlia, so they’re basically sisters, and as such, Dahlia is very protective of Asha and becomes increasingly worried when Asha starts acting weird after her meeting with the king and queen, like she’s hiding something… and why the heck she has a friend that dresses up like a prince now?
- There will be a point in the middle of the story where Asha and Aster run away from the kingdom
(for reasons that I really should explain soon because the whole middle chunk of this rewrite is yet to be shared on Tumblr, I’m so sorry, I’ll get to writing it here soon)
- And Asha is seen now as a traitor, so, the 7 teens are conflicted.
- Should they believe their king, who says that Star guy is dangerous and Asha was plotting to betray them? Or should they trust their best friend?
- Dahlia is the first one who rises up saying they should go after Asha and help her, pack their stuff, tell their parents they’re going to make a sleepover or something, and just go to the middle of the woods.
- Everyone is a little unsure at first (specially Gabo and Simon) but after she gives them a little speech and reminds everyone of all the things Asha did for them, they’re convinced to go.
- Once they do find Asha and Aster, she helps a lot when they have to make a plan on how to defeat the royal couple.
Simon 💤
Tumblr media
- Simon is a 21 year old young man, the oldest of the group, and since the day he gave way his wish he hasn’t been the same.
- Simon used to be very energetic and hard working, now, he’s in a constant feel of exhaustion that doesn’t go away, no matter how much he sleeps, he doesn’t feel motivated to do anything.
- His friends are very understanding tho and every time they hang out they always bring a pillow in case he needs a nap (which he always does need).
- They assume Simon has been so exhausted since he turned 18 because after that his father has been more demanding of him and his training, we’ll talk more about that later.
- Even tho he’s overwhelmed with sleepiness, Simon is still very protective and caring with his friends, he always tries his best to stay awake when they’re having fun together, he doesn’t want to miss a moment with them.
- He was even more protective before he turned 18 of course, he was like the older brother of the group, but since now he’s way too sleepy to be the voice of reason, that role is now Asha’s, the second oldest.
He’s the son of the captain of the royal guard
- The training I mentioned before was sword fighting, horse walking, navigation, tactics and a bunch of other exhausting things.
- But for whaaaateveeer reason Simon has lost all interest in learning about them since the day he gave away his wish, gosh I wonder what that wish wa— It’s the same that it was in the movie.
- Simon wished to become the next captain of the royal guard, just like his dad, so he can make him proud and protect his friends.
(Omg Simon is Papyrus Undertale confirmed)
- Magnifico is waiting for Simon’s dad to pass away so he can grant Simon’s wish, can’t have 2 captains of the royal guard at the same time, now can he?
- The tragic irony of it all is that a wish that Simon made to make his family proud just made him become an embarrassment to his father, who now doesn’t even try to teach him anything, knowing his son is just gonna fall asleep during his lessons.
- Simon is very distressed by all this, deep down he knows that he might feel this way because, for whatever reason, the king hasn’t granted his wish yet
- Whenever he tries to explain that to his father tho, he just angrily cuts him off for even daring to question or blame the king for his own failures, saying he must always be loyal and thankful to the king… Always.
(His father is mean like that because he wished to be the king’s most trusted and loyal knight so he literally is incapable of questioning Magnifico, even if that means he hurts his son in the process)
- After getting these speeches from his father so many times Simon just accepted that the problem was him, and it definitely wasn’t the king’s fault
- However, Asha did suspect that Simon’s wish wasn’t granted, just like how her grandfather’s wish wasn’t either, she recognized how Simon shared a lot of behavior patterns with her grandfather.
“You know Simon… Maybe you should ask the king if your wish was granted at all, don’t you think? You haven't been acting like yourself for 3 years now”
“What? Oh no no no I… I shouldn’t bother him with something so silly, I mean, of course he granted my wish… And if he didn’t then he must have his reasons and I just gotta wait haha but it doesn’t matter either way, after all I’m totally fine… I’m fine…”
Simon is the only one in the group who has absolutely no criticism about the king.
He was the second one that met Asha
- Simon was 10 when he started training sword fighting on his backyard, he’d use some scare crows as his opponents, and he made some wood swords by himself.
- Asha and Dahlia were hanging out when they saw Simon training, Asha thought it seemed fun so she asked if she could play too.
- Simon really could use some more lively opponents so yeah, why not?
- They played sword fighting the whole afternoon while Dahlia cheered for Asha and joined in the fun too.
- Since then they were very close friends and Simon taught Asha how to properly sword fight during their preteen years… they haven’t done that in a while now.
He’ll be the traitor
- Yup, oh sweet sleepy lil Simon betrays them in my version too, but don’t worry, it’s not just because he wants to get his wish granted like it was in the movie
(because that was a jerk move that made Simon feel very unlikable, like I get it he’s constantly exhausted and depressed and wants it to go away but bruh couldn’t even look guilty when doing it)
- So, like I mentioned, they all go after Asha and Aster in the forest. Simon at first is very resistant and the others even say it’s okay if wants to stay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dahlia: It’s okay Simon, you don’t have to go if you don’t want to.
Gabo: OH SURE! I’m a jerk for calling this a suicide mission, but the strongest and oldest of the group not wanting to go is completely understandable, I see how it is.
Simon: …hmm
Dahlia: Simon’s case is different Gabo, if his dad realizes he’s missing then we might have even more guards on our tail.
Safi: Besides, Simon might be a liability.
Simon:… what’s that supposed to mean?
Safi: Ah… shoot- eh you know like… it’s getting pretty late and you didn’t get a nap this afternoon so—
Gabo: He means we can’t carry you through the woods like a sleeping beauty waiting for a kiss, Simon.
Simon:…
Hal: Wow Gabo, very classy (sarcastic)
Gabo: Hey, just saying what we’re all thinking-
Simon: I’m going.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Simon decides he has to go because someone has to be there to protect his friends, not just from the woods, but most importantly from that star guy the king warned everyone about
- May seem contradictory that Simon believes both in the king and Asha, but truth is that he’s holding up hope that this is all some big misunderstanding and Asha just misunderstood something the king said, or she’s being brainwashed by that star, or anything else.
- He just can’t accept that the king is truly evil.
- So, when they’re packing up their things to go, Simon grabs a little something from his father’s room.
- A magic mirror, used only by the king’s most trusted knights, that gives direct contact to the king's study.
- He planed to just use it in case that they needed help if they found out the star was really harming Asha.
- However, once they did find Asha and Aster, it became undeniably clear that the star wasn’t harmful at all, which left Simon very confused.
“Maybe the book the king read about wishing stars was wrong, I should just explain to him that he made a mistake!”
(Oh poor naive boy)
- After planning how they’d defeat the king and save the wishes, Simon just lied saying he was gonna take a nap behind a tree, and thus, he entered in contact with the king and queen
- Magnifico at first dismisses Simon like he’s just messing with his father’s stuff until Simon mentions he knows where Asha and the star are, that peaks his interest, but he and Amaya disguise their enthusiasm perfectly by pretending to be worried for his safety.
“Oh my, are you alright? Has it done anything to you? Where are you? We can send help immediately”
- He says they’re fine, and tries to explain that maybe the king was wrong about star, and there has been some misunderstanding that lead to Asha thinking they were bad people, if they just talked things out everything would go back to normal.
- Like I mentioned in part 2, one of Magnifico’s abilities is hypnosis through eye contact, so he’s able to make Simon see things his way.
- He manipulates Simon into thinking that the star is tricking all of them to get to the wishes, and the only way for Simon to save them is doing EXACTLY what Magnifico says.
- He asks Simon to tell him what their plans are, so he can stop them from… doing anything they might regret.
- Simon, even under the influence of Magnifico’s power, is still conflicted and asks if his friends will be in trouble after this is all over.
“Trouble? Oh heaves no, dear boy, I wouldn’t dream on letting any harm come to them, trust me, your friends will be perfectly safe… If you do as I say.”
“… “if”?…”
“Enough chit chat, now, what are they plotting exactly? Don’t leave any details”
- Of course, Magnifico also offers to grant Simon's wish if everything goes according to plan, Simon is fully convinced.
- Simon agrees to lock his friends in a room during their invasion to the castle, the king convinced him that's the best way to keep them “safe” (Asha will be locked in a different room tho, for… reasons)
- But once he does lock them up, he hears his friends screaming and arguing with him through the door, eventually he has a change of heart and lets them go, so they can stop the king and queen together.
- Simon first betrayed his friends, but then he betrayed the king, and as he’ll find out in a very painful way… Magnifico really doesn’t like being betrayed.
(See what I did there? That’s a line Magnifico says in the Wish movie hehe… okay moving on)
Gabo 😡
Tumblr media
- Gabo is a 17 year old teen, he’s also a little person.
- He’s a menace to society the brutally honest of the group, always with a sarcastic remark on the tip of his tongue, sometimes they’re funny, sometimes they’re way too harsh, but he often apologizes if he goes too far, he doesn’t mean to hurt people, being blunt is just how he expresses himself.
- You may wonder why his friends even hang out with him if he’s so… grumpy all the time, well, his friends understand that he has a lot of pent-up anger inside because of personal stuff, so they try to help him through it.
- He also has a more soft side to him, he can be very wise for his age when his friends need some advice, and he’s always loyal, even when they disagree, he’d go anywhere they go.
- He’s specially loyal and supportive to Asha and most of the time refrains from throwing shade at her, actually he’s mostly just blunt when talking to the guys, he’s a lot more respectful to the girls.
(Ironic considering Grumpy hated Snow White at first just because she was a girl lmao)
He’s the son of a soldier
- His father is just a random soldier, nothing special really.
- However, once when Gabo was a kid, he was visiting the castle with his father and he wanted to explore, so he sneakily grabbed his father’s keys to the dungeons and went to see how was it like, ya know, boys will be boys.
- He got in, and at first there wasn’t nothing out of the ordinary, just your average scary dark and gloomy dungeon… except that by the end of a hall, full of empty jail cells, there was a door.
- And he could hear someone screaming from behind that door, like they were pleading, and he saw light coming from the key hole… It looked like the king’s magic, except it was green instead of blue.
- He tried to use the keys to open it, but none of them worked.
“Ugh why don’t any of these keys work??”
“Because this area is forbidden, little one”
- He turned around quickly to see who was behind him, and there she was, the queen was smiling down at him, a sweet and tender smile, like she wasn’t hearing the sounds of desperate cries coming from behind the door.
“I- sorry your majesty but umm… it sounds like someone is in trouble in there, shouldn't we help?”
- Then he heard the distinct sound of something made of glass breaking, and suddenly… silence, no more crying, no more screaming, and no more light coming from the door.
“I don’t hear anything my sapling, poor thing, you must be imagining things. Now, why don’t you just hurry along back to your father? He’s looking for you… And remember, this is our little secret~”
- And Gabo never told this to anyone, he knows no one would believe him.
(If you’re wondering what was going on behind that door… let’s just say there’s STILL more evil stuff Magnifico does that I couldn’t fit in my blog about the villains, what’s that you ask? *maniacal laugh* I’ll let you guess)
- Gabo always had the feeling that there was something WRONG with Rosas, but he couldn't quite pin point what, and that experience in the dungeon made him start questioning if the smiles he saw plastered on the king and queen's faces everyday were real or fake.
- This feeling that there was something wrong but there was nothing he could do about it made him, for a lack of a better word, grumpy a lot of the time.
- Needles to say, when Asha explained that the king and queen were actually evil, Gabo believed in a heartbeat.
- Because he’s a little person, Gabo is not expected to follow his father’s foot steps, and that makes him furious, because he wishes he could be seen as strong like he sees himself, but he’s constantly underestimated and treated like a kid.
He was the third one to met Asha
- During a kite festival in the kingdom, Dahlia, Simon and Asha were flying their kite when they noticed a boy sitting down on the grass, next to a broken kite.
- The boy looked very grumpy, so Asha tried offering him a hug, Gabo quickly pushed her away, saying he wanted to be left alone.
- Simon and Dahlia suggested they should just leave him be, but Asha insisted they should just give him some time to calm down.
- They sat a little bit far away from Gabo and started to just talk. Gabo appreciated that even though Asha didn’t even know him she was willing to wait for him to get some alone time and try to reach out for him later, most people just walked away when he had his anger episodes.
- After a few minutes, he got up and asked if he could play with them.
He will be the comedy relief, and the straightforward voice of reason
- Comedy relief is also an important role in a story, to alleviate the the tension and just be that one character that gives more contradictory remarks, otherwise everyone just agrees with each other and really where’s the fun in that?
- Also, after they figure out Simon betrayed them, he’d be the one who snaps Simon out of the idea that the king is a good person, throwing some facts to his face and like, not sugarcoating it, just straight up calling Simon out for being a dirty traitor, an awful friend and an absolute idiot, which may seem harsh but was exactly what Simon needed to hear to realize he was making a mistake.
- Like, Simon just opens the door apologizing in the verge of tears while Gabo keeps kicking his leg to let out his anger while everyone else is staring at Simon very disappointedly, comedy gold.
Bazeema 🥰
Tumblr media
- Bazeema is 17 years old, who’s very shy.
-In this rewrite she is pretty much the same except for a little design and background change, you see, I found this piece of concept art
Tumblr media
- Do you see it? Bazeema seems to be wearing a hijab, I like that, we don’t get enough Muslim representation, so there, Bazeema is Muslim and she wears a hijab now, her religion won’t affect anything in the narrative tho but I just wish they kept this detail in her design.
- Also I’m keeping that gimmick that sometimes she appears out of no where and scared the hell out of Gabo, because yeah I think it has comedic potential.
- She’s a very sweet and gentle girl, very soft spoken and likes to have some alone time once in a while “us introverts need sanctuary” as she said.
(She’s kinda like Fluttershy, see? I told you I’d mention more my little pony characters)
She’s the daughter of the royal gardeners
- Nothing much to it, Bazeema just saw the queen being rude to her mother once because the flowers were red instead of white. So again, when Asha sas the royal couple is evil she believes her just fine.
- Also she knows about a secret passage inside the palace’s garden, in the center of a hedge maze, that leads to inside the castle.
- Specifically to an underground storage room where her parents keep some gardening tools, but, if they can get in there, they might find a way to get inside the castle through the underground.
- She doesn’t mind following her parents footsteps at all, in fact, she loves the idea of just talking to flowers all day.
She’s the fourth one who Asha meets
- When Asha was 10, she and her friends went to watch a kids play telling the story of Rosas, Bazeema was playing the queen.
- But Bazeema got stage fright, and ran to the back of the stage, embarrassed that she forgot her lines
- Asha followed the sound of her crying and reassured her that it was alright and she could take as long as she needed to feel ready, and complemented that she looked beautiful in her Queen’s dress.
- Bazeema really appreciated that, and she went back on stage, although, she tried keeping her eyes closed to not see the crowd.
She’ll give important info on how to get inside the castle
- Like I mentioned before, Bazeema has info on how to get inside the castle through the garden, so she’ll just assist on that part of their plan.
- Also comedic relief, with her gimmick of disappearing then showing up out of nowhere.
Dario 💎
Tumblr media
- Dario is 17 years old, and in this rewrite, he’s mute, not deaf tho, just mute, so he communicates through sign language. That’s to reference how Dopey, the dwarf he pays homage to, was also mute.
- I wouldn’t say Dario is dumb in my rewrite, he’s just really easily distracted, sometimes when his friends are talking he’ll just doze off and look at some flowers he finds along the way or collect rocks, and they don’t really mind.
- Dario is very emotionally intelligent tho, and among all the 7 teens, he’s one of the quickest to believe that Asha is innocent (Right after Dahlia)
He’s the son of the royal announcers
- Ya know those people with the big trumpets that give announcements to the kingdom? Yeah that’s what his parents do.
- Due to his disability Dario can’t really become an announcer, at least not a verbal one, he doesn’t really mind tho.
He’s the fifth one that Asha meets
- Asha was 11 when she and her friends met Dario, he was new in their class because he and his parents just moved to Rosas.
- Since he was mute, he had a really hard time making friends, so, Asha and her friends went to the library and found a book teaching about sign language
(I’m not gonna pretend you can actually learn ALL about sign language with just a book, I should know, I had ASL class in college, with a deaf teacher, and even then I don’t know even half of what there is to know, but this is a fantasy, so let’s pretend these kids learned the whole language, because it’s wholesome)
- So they make this effort to communicate with him and that makes Dario really happy, and he quickly joins the group.
He’ll be the silent comedic relief and also help creating a distraction for the king
- Most scenes when everyone is talking and focusing on more serious things, Dario is easily distracted and can be on the background doing the most random things, it’s not that he doesn’t care tho, he’s listening, and sometimes he comes up with creative ideas of his own.
- Also, as the son of the royal announcers, he goes tell them he has seen the star on the north side of the forest, his parents obviously believe him, and announce to the guards and the king, thus they can get inside while Aster distracts Magnifico.
Safi 🤧
Tumblr media
- Safi is the youngest in the group, he’s 16 years old, and he has a tendency to sometimes not thinking before he speaks, so he kinda blurts out things that might come off as indelicate, but he never means to be rude. Also he’s allergic to EVERYTHING under the sun, so, of course, he sneezes a lot.
- I gave him this characteristic of blurting out things that he’s not supposed to say because it kinda reminds me of a sneeze, uncontrollable and sometimes inconvenient, but this way it gives him more character.
- Also if it was only Gabo saying inconvenient stuff and everyone else were saints this would be no realistic group of teenagers, teens are relentless when it comes to saying dumb stuff with each other y’all, they just don’t care.
- Safi is also a germophobic, always avoiding situations that might get him sick, like flowers, animals, dust, humidity, flour, the rain-
- And even though he’s terrified of everything that might give him a sneezing fit, his friends are always there to help him get through it.
He’s the son of two members of the cleaning staff
- So, as you can imagine, Safi really doesn’t want to follow his parents career path, with a job that is all about cleaning dust.
- One day, he was asked to help them clean the castle so he could at least try to learn something.
- While he was helping, the king showed up and started complaining with his parents that his study wasn’t clean enough
- While he was busy talking with them, he left something very important lying around.
- Safi saw the king’s magic staff leaning on the wall.
- Safi wanted to get a closer look, so while the king was distracted he approached the staff, but then, he felt it, a sneeze was coming up.
- He tried to hold it in but it was too late, Safi sneeze was so strong the staff got out of balance, and when it was about to hit the ground Magnifico managed to grab it just in time.
- Safi looked relieved and even chuckled to himself thinking the king would do the same. But the expression the king had was something he never seen from him before… Safi saw pure rage.
“DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU ALMOST DID? YOU WRETCHED BRAT! YOU COULD’VE ENDED ALL THE MAGIC IN ROSAS! I COULD’VE BEEN RUINED”
- Safi was pressed against a wall apologizing frantically and so were his parents.
- The king took a few deep breaths, and as if nothing happened his expression went back to his usual charismatic smile
“Maybe cleaning duty just isn’t your calling, lad. You’re dismissed from assisting for today, or any other day for that matter.”
- So Safi is not allowed inside the castle anymore.
He was the sixth that Asha met
- Safi was terrified during the festivals celebrating the foundation of Rosas, because the kingdom was decorated completely with, well, roses.
- There were roses everywhere, and he couldn’t stop sneezing with all the pollen in the air.
- Asha and her friends noticed him distressed, and decided to help him by taking Safi away from the kingdom.
- Safi was sad he couldn’t join in the party, but Asha and her friends said they could bring the party to him, so they danced and played instruments all day long.
This boy whose only personality trait was SNEEZING is literally the one who provides the info they need to defeat the villains, no, I’m not joking
- Like I mentioned before, Safi had a interaction with the king where he heard the king say “You could’ve ended all magic in Rosas” but he never understood what Magnifico meant by that.
- It’s not like all the king’s magic is stored in that one staff right?… but what if it is.
- When they’re coming up with a plan to defeat the king, Safi brings up this information, and there you have it, now they know what’s his weakness.
Hal 😄
Tumblr media
- Hal is 17 year old, and judging by her earrings that resemble the “Jaaro dibbei” earrings from the Fulani tribe, so with that in mind, in this rewrite she came from Africa but moved to Rosas with her family as a kid.
- Hal is a very extroverted and joyful person, it’s rare to not see her smile, unless the situation really gets serious.
- Shes contagiously optimistic.
- Is often practicing her jokes with her friends, or just throwing some quick witted quips to lighten the mood.
(She’s a lot like Pinkie Pie… All the girls are My Little Pony references)
She’s the daughter of the royal entertainers
- Hal used to practice a lot of juggling and try acrobatics when she was little, but she quickly realized that kind of act wasn’t her calling
- She much prefers telling jokes and funny stories to the king and queen wherever her parents bring her with them to perform
- Hal noticed how the laughs and smiles the king and queen made during her acts always felt kinda forced, like they didn’t mean it.
- However the king would often burst with laughter whenever a performance from her parents went wrong, that always rubbed her the wrong way.
She was the last to met Asha
- When Asha was 13, she and her friends saw Hal practicing juggling near the forest, and she was really struggling with it.
- She told them she was really nervous because she had to be ready to perform for the royal couple in a few days.
- Asha suggested she should try a different kind of act, so she and her friends helped Hal come up with stories to narrate to the king.
- Hal discovered a new passion for story telling, and that became her new act.
She's the one who encourages Aster to confess his feelings
- Our Star Boy wasn’t actually that confident with confessing how he really felt about Asha, after all Aster knew that after granting her wish they would never see each other again, so what was the point in confessing?
- Hal encourages him with her optimism and explains that if he doesn’t tell her he’ll just regret it forever.
- That leads to the “At All Cost” scene
- So thank Hal for playing cupid
- Oh and Bazeema will help encourage Aster too
Final Thoughts
Tumblr media
Welp this was a doozy one, but I’m pretty satisfied with how they turned out, everyone now feels like they got something to do and some actual backstories.
The way I’m planning to actually introduce in the story how they all met Asha is through a musical flashback that we see Asha going from a little kid to a teenager, think of it like the UP intro or “Do You Want To Build a Snowman”.
Like the movie would have in the beginning Asha’s grandpa reading to her the story of Rosas and we get a sweet scene of them interacting, then it cuts to this musical sequence (probably with no lyrics like in UP) where we see how Asha met each one of her friends, and also show how as time went on her grandfather grew more and more senile and dependent on her.
The sequence would end with Asha’s grandfather’s passing, and her friends being there to support her. Just like that in a flashback sequence with no dialogue we understand who are Asha’s friends, who was her grandfather, how Asha cares about all of them dearly, and with all that established the story begins.
Like can you imagine that? Introducing why we should care about Asha’s friends by showing to us who they are instead of just telling us and throwing them in the story with no explanation? What a concept, I’m sure glad a certain multibillion company didn’t just waste them…
Anyway, I’ll start actually sharing the chapters of my rewrite here pretty soon, I’m already confident enough to do it!
I was gonna first share a blog about how I’d reimagine Valentino buuuuuut I think it’s gonna be a pretty short blog that I can write later, and I can tell some people really want me to just tell the story already, and I want to start doing it too so let’s gooo!
Thank you so much for reading!

summer of love (ljn)
Tumblr media
original gif
↳ pairing: lee jeno x reader
↳ word count: 15.2k
↳ genre: ‘90’s!au, brother’s best friend!au, summer!au, neighbor!au, slice of life(ish)!au, fluff, slowburn
↳ summary: The summer of 1997 was a weird time. As a person living in the modern era, you’d completely forgotten what it was like to live in the ‘90’s. In May 1997, you listened to the Backstreet Boys, flipped through TV Guide, and had an answering machine which seems so archaic now. But that isn’t the only reason why the summer of 1997 was weird. That summer was the time you fell for your brother’s best friend.
↳ warnings: minor cursing, making out
Tumblr media
SUMMER 1997
Your second year of college is over. You’ve taken your last exam, and it’s finally time to ditch your dorm and lousy roommate to go back to your childhood home for the summer. It’s a three-hour drive with no rest stops from college to your home, but it took longer due to the gas station stops to get junky, sugary snacks and coffee. But eventually, you made it back home in one piece.
Your childhood home looks almost exactly the same as you left it: The old, green, flowery wallpaper that your parents keep forgetting the change still hangs in the kitchen, the brown carpet in the entry hallway with the weird stain is still there, and the pantry still has an endless supply of potato chips. The only thing missing are your parents.
“Y/N!” Renjun exclaims, coming to hug you. As your older brother's arms lock around you, you notice how different he feels despite last seeing him only two months ago; prickly stubble pokes at your skin, and he definitely has been working out.
He parts from you, moving to the answering machine sitting on the kitchen counter. “Where are mom and dad?” You ask.
“Out,” he says abruptly, playing the messages in the machine before clearing them out. “They’re shopping to make dinner. They thought you would come back later. And by the way,” he continues, “Jeno’s coming over.”
“Okay,” you respond back simply. At this point, you’re used to Lee Jeno; he’s practically your family, in that the Lees live only a few houses from yours. It is honestly a wonder how Renjun and Jeno have remained friends since they were five-year-olds running around the neighborhood grafitti-ing the sidewalks with colorful chalk designs without growing apart or finding people more apt to suit their developing selves as time passes. It seems that instead of growing apart because of the new scenes and sounds in their adult lives, they were growing together like two parallel vines despite the distance they had to combat in college. When you hear the doorbell a few moments later, you know it’s Lee Jeno.
He certainly looks different than what you remember with dark hair this time and a slight tan. You haven’t seen Lee Jeno since winter break when he was staying with his parents across the street. Just like you and Renjun, he’s back home from college after the school year, and you’ve seen him around a couple of times a year with all the school breaks.
“Y/N!” Jeno smiles in that very Jeno way that makes everyone’s heart melt. He leans down a bit to meet your eyes, taking his thumb and forefinger of his hand and squishing your cheek. You playfully bat his hand away.
“Quit doing that!” You giggle with a pout on your face. “I’m not a baby anymore! I go to college!” You say incredulously, a little bit of a whine in your tone.
“You’re always a baby to me,” he teases. You roll your eyes at this, moving over to let him in.
“Jeno!” Renjun yells, ditching the answering machine. He rushes over to hug the other boy. “It’s good to see you.”
“You too Jun,” Jeno replies. You smile at the sight.
“Let’s play pool,” Renjun says. Jeno agrees, nodding. Both boys go to the basement where your family’s famous pool table resides (your father having gotten it for free from some bar closing in the ‘70’s), and Jeno shuts the door loudly on his way out. You’re about to rain on Renjun’s parade and tell him to come back and clear the answering machine he left behind, but you think against it. You didn’t feel like interrupting a friendship that is so beautiful. So you sit on the chair that Renjun recently left, pressing the ‘listen’ button on the answering machine.
As you listen to the promotional spam calls from companies trying to sell you things that you didn’t need or couldn’t afford, you purse your lips. Seeing Renjun and Jeno together almost made you jealous; none of your high school friends were back from college, and through the few calls you all would have during the school year, they’re off doing bigger and better things than this sleepy town that you call home.
That night you were going to sleep in your bedroom filled with cassette tapes, posters and pink and yellow wallpaper that you picked out when you were seven. After satisfactorily wrapping yourself in your comfortable blankets that smelled of lavender detergent (your favorite scent), you stare at the ceiling. You couldn’t imagine not visiting this place.
-
So you have a secret. No, not of the deep dark kind, but something that would definitely earn you a lot of teasing if your friends and family found out about it. One of your biggest guilty pleasures is the movie series The Zygon Kingdom, a science fiction franchise about alien invasions. Stereotypically, people think this series is for losers, gamers, and nerds who live in their mom’s basement. When you’re in public, you try your best to refrain from comment or make fun of the series alongside others, but in private, you secretly anticipate the new movies, going to see it immediately when it comes to theaters.
And that’s what you’re planning on doing today. Today is the release of the fifth movie of the franchise, The Zygon Kingdom: A New World. Finally, you actually had plans; you were starting to look pathetic with how much TV you were watching; your parents were even joking that the most recent book that you’ve read is the TV Guide that was mailed a few days ago. On top of not having friends to hang out with this summer, Renjun, a fresh graduate from a pre-law program, has been running around town trying to find positions to start paying off his degree debts and to gain experience while also trying to study for the LEET exam to qualify for law school. All your friends and family being busy would be depressing to you on any normal day, this comes to your advantage today, for you don’t want to be seen.
“I’m going to see a friend. Love you.” You say quickly to your parents. With how immersed they are in Full House, their marked TV Guide beside them, you could have said that you wanted to get a tattoo, and your parents would probably not bat an eye.
“Okay, be safe honey,” your mother says dismissively.
Leaving through the basement, you go to your car outside, unlocking the door. Obviously, you’re carrying your big tote bag so you could sneak in snacks; you even went shopping at the convenience store to prepare. Once you’re finished with the ten minute drive from your home to the movie theater, you look in both directions before entering the line in the lobby of the theater to get a ticket. You’re going to pay in cash, not credit to make sure that this can’t be traced back to you, and you pull out a large flopping hat that you have saved in your car, placing it on your head the second you step out of the car. Yes, you were being completely paranoid, but the last thing you want is someone recognizing you as you go into the movie theater or your parents looking at your credit card statement to see that you went to the movie theaters to view The Zygon Kingdom.
The time you spent waiting in line is filled with you looking around in all directions, making sure to avoid gazes of anyone that went to high school with or parents whose kids you babysat. Gossip travels fast, and you didn’t feel like finding out how fast. This is a whole covert operation – you get in and you get out, hopefully with your reputation still intact.
“One ticket to the new Zygon movie,” you say quietly. The woman sitting at the counter almost doesn’t hear you because of how quiet you are or how loud the chatters are of high schoolers and adults coming to the movie theaters after a long week, but either way, she gives you your ticket.
“It’s in room B,” You’ve gone to this movie theater enough to know where everything is without needing a map or extra time to find your way around. Since you took into account Friday night traffic and the length of the line, you have about five minutes before the movie starts.
“Thank you,” you say, smiling quickly. Keeping your head low, you move your neck around as if your head is a moving surveillance camera, still trying to make sure that no one you know is seeing you walk into room B, which has a huge blue and yellow poster of The Zygon Kingdom: A New World right next to the door. Once the coast is clear, you head into the dark movie room, finding row sixteen, in the middle.
“Excuse me, excuse me,” you whisper to people who you had to cross to get to your seat. The room is at half capacity; a few advertisements are playing on the screen, for now you have three minutes before the movie starts (but it will probably be longer since ads play for at least ten minutes after the movie is supposed to start to give people extra time). You find a spot in the middle row, which is where the majority of those few people are because you can get a good view of the screen and the audio would be loud but not too loud.
Pushing down the foldable seat, you sit down. Bringing your purse to your lap, you pull out a bag of chips from your bag, opening it before the movie so that no one gets annoyed at you for opening it so loud. You adjust your sitting position, letting your left leg cross over your right one, and in the dark room, you accidentally kick the seat in front of you. It’s a loud sound, and you slightly grimace at the pain in your foot now. The person in front of you turns around, and you feel like you lost the air in your lungs.
“Jeno?”
“Y/N?”
-
After the movie incident, you and Jeno realize that you actually have more in common than you thought. Apparently, Jeno is in the same position as you when it comes to high school or local friends. Just graduated from college, his friends have found well-paying starting positions and internships, and except for a few people, he’s also been bored at home. Instead of finding a job immediately or stretching himself thin like Renjun, Jeno decided that it was best for him to take a break mentally after college, and then he would be on the job hunt. So now you two have been much more inclined to meet up.
This would have never happened a year ago. Sure, you would hang out with Jeno when Renjun invited you to hang out with them, and you would even have a good time, but by yourselves, you were a bit more than strangers. Now that doesn’t seem so.
“I still can’t believe that you like the Zygon Kingdom. Liking the Zygon Kingdom is so not you.” You say, grinning at Jeno. “I would never have pegged you as a fan,” You and Jeno are at an ice cream parlor, enjoying the shelter of this building better than the merciless afternoon sun outside. Lee Jeno, a college soccer star who gets all the girls liking a cheesy science fiction movie? That’s not something you learn every day. Picking at his chocolate ice cream, Jeno smiles at you too.
“I could say the same for you.” Taking a bite of your ice cream, you cross your legs under the table, a slightly pensive look on your face. Leaning forward, you put your elbows on the white table. “So what else do I not know about you?” You ask.
“Well,” Jeno tilts his head. “I like to dip my pizza in honey.”
“I know that,” you say. “Back when you and Renjun used to order pizza at the house, you would always ask me where the honey is.”
“You remember that?” Jeno asks, surprised. You shake your head, a disapproving frown on your face. “I only remember because you’re the only person in the history of humankind to dip your pizza in honey. Honestly, how do you even stomach that?”
“The same way you can eat that mint chocolate chip ice cream you have here,” he says, pointing to your cup. You gasp in mock offense, and he only continues. “That stuff tastes like toothpaste.”
“To make up for what you just said, you have to tell me something that I actually don’t know about you.” Jeno grunts and this, and you wait, tapping your foot against the tiles annoyingly.
“When I was a sophomore in high school, I went to one of Ten’s house parties,” he stops for a few seconds, and you look at him, your gaze willing for him to continue. “He brought in eight kegs of beer from God knows where, and I had a few drinks.”
“Shut up!” You say, pushing Jeno’s shoulder from across the table. You’re absolutely astonished. “You, Lee Jeno, student council representative for your entire high school career, got drunk while going to Ten’s parties?” You only know Ten through his reputation, specifically his outrageous house parties that he throws whenever his parents are out of town that almost always end with the cops coming to shut it down. They’re always the highlight of your high school class’s weekend in your sleepy little town, where the mall or the park are the most interesting places to go. You’ve never been to one of Ten’s parties yourself since in high school, you were never much of a partier (and you didn’t have the ‘contacts’ to get invited anyway), but you’ve heard that he’s the definition of a privileged rich kid with money to burn.
“Yes, that was me.” he laughs. “And, it gets better.” You lean farther forward, your cheek propped up by your fist. “I was so drunk that I couldn’t drive home, so I called Renjun at like midnight to pick me up. When I came into his car, it smelled like perfume, and he had lipstick all over his face. Yeri Kim was in the back of his car.”
Your eyes widened. “No way! Renjun told me he was studying for a history test!” You remember this day in-depth because it was the night of the freshman dance that you went to with your friends.
Jeno smiles at your astonished look before clearing his throat. “I told you something you didn’t know about me and something you didn’t know about Renjun, so you better tell me something good that I didn’t know about you.”
You sigh, tilting your head upwards. Pushing your tongue against your cheek, you’re deep in thought before you spring up in your chair again.
“Remember when you, me, and Mark would all volunteer at Taeyong’s animal shelter?” You ask. During your high school years, you were in desperate need of Honors Society hours to make you look better on your college applications, so you ended up signing up to take care of unadopted pets, either rescue or lost. Jeno, Renjun, and a few of his other friends had the same idea since it would be easy to carpool.
“Yeah?” Jeno responds. Bringing your palm against your mouth, you shelter some giggles before Jeno has a curious look on his face.
“Y/N? What is it?” You lick your lips before inhaling sharply.
“While getting in the parking lot with Renjun to get something from your car, do you remember getting hit by a bunch of water balloons?” Jeno squints for a few seconds as if trying to connect some invisible dots, and after a few moments, his eyes widen, his mouth in an “o” shape.
“That was you?” He says, astonished. “I blamed Chenle for that for an entire year!”
“Yup, it was me,” you say, giggling in between words.
“Why did you do it?” He asks.
“It was supposed to be for Renjun, but then you got in the way, and by that time, I already dropped the water balloons.” Jeno purses his lips, as if trying to picture you in the situation you described. This only leads you into another laughing fit.
“You should have seen your face, I will never forget how hilarious you looked and how you were like ‘Chenle if you’re working the dog walking on the ceiling, then I’m gonna kill you!’” You snicker, imitating Jeno’s voice by making it abnormally deep.
“I do not sound like that.”
“I do not sound like that,” you imitate again. Jeno crosses his arms, a brow quirked.
“Okay, I’ll actually stop this time,” you say, giggling.
After a few moments, Jeno laughs with you. The prospect of no friends in town seemed unfounded today, for there is a friend for you that has been sitting under your nose this whole time.

You’re sitting cross-legged on your bedroom floor as you organize your colorful array of CDs, different albums you’ve collected through various birthday monies and Christmas gifts. Not only are there CDs, but your shelf is loaded with cassettes. By this point, no one used cassettes anymore, but it was the easiest way to record songs from the tape radio and have to listen. You would simply put the cassette in your tape radio and press the ‘record’ button when radio stations would have their two hours ad free music. A mini cassette of free music was perfect to put in Renjun’s old walkman as you took a jog around the neighborhood. You learned this method two years ago from your father, who used this way to get free music in the ‘80’s, but now, you have a huge collection of songs that have become a pain to oragnize. You’re not exactly good at putting things back in their place, tending to grab your CDs and cassettes, use them, and then discard them on top of the little shelf you have.
Point is, this is an arduous task. This is why when you hear the phone ring in the living room, you run out to get it. Plus, if you didn’t answer it now, it would be your task to clear out the answering machine at the end of the day. So, now you had one less message to listen and clear out.
When you hold the house phone to your ear, you only hear a monotonous dial tone, signalling that the person hung up. You feel a little suspicious, but think nothing of it; sometimes, neighborhood kids find it funny to dial random numbers and not answering when the person picks up – like virtual ding-dong-ditching.
But your suspicion proves right when you feel wetness on your head. On the floor of your living room is a deflated balloon, and in your hair, you’re pretty sure it’s water. There’s only one person you think could be behind this, and he slowly comes out from the space he’s hiding in your kitchen. He smirks as he shows you a small corded phone connected to the wall, shaped like a lip (probably Jeno’s sister’s that he stole from her room). Before you can grab him in your kitchen, Jeno is running out onto the street.
“Lee Jeno what the hell?” You screech to the boy running down the street. You don’t bother to take your shoes, only closing the front door to prevent any animals coming into your house to take shelter from this hot weather. The heated pavement sings the soles of your feet as you run, but the feeling doesn’t bother you: you’re on a hot (literally hot) pursuit of Lee Jeno, and in the distance, you can see him.
“Damn these short legs,” you mutter. You run and you run through the neighborhood. Lee Jeno has you taking sudden turns, trying to get you to break your tail on him, but it’s unsuccessful. Finally when you’re close enough, you spring forward onto Jeno’s back. He sways at the sudden weight, falling to the ground. Thankfully, you’re on grass, which is cooler to the pads of your feet and breaks Jeno’s fall.
“What was the meaning of this?” You ask, pointing to your dripping head.
“It’s a little something called payback.” He smirks.
“Hey, there’s a difference,” you start off, “Mine was on accident. It was supposed to hit Renjun. Your’s was on purpose.” You cross your arms, pouting.
“Well, then this was supposed to teach you not to be mean to your brother.”
“Siblings in the same age group act like this all the time,” you say. You then put your index to your chin. “At least if you’re like me and Renjun.” If Jeno pulled something like this on his older sister Jihyeon, who is six years older than him, he wouldn’t survive to tell the tale.
The boy in front of you sucks in a big breath. “Let’s settle this once and for all then,” Jeno says. He comes closer, his body only a few inches from yours. “A game.” He smiles. “I have some water balloons at home. If you win–”
“You have to give me 20,000 won.” You finish. Jeno raises his eyebrow. “There’s a new Backstreet Boys album I want,” you say.
“Alright, fine,” Jeno says. “But if you lose,” Jeno stops midway, trying to bite his lower lip in a way to shelter the huge smirk on his face. “You have to clean my car.”
“Too easy, all I’ll need is a hose,” you wave your hand.
“Not the outside.” Your eyes widen at this new development.
“You mean…”
“Yup. The inside.” You’ve never been in Jeno’s car yourself since mostly when you would hang out with Jeno, it would be with Renjun, which means that you’re using Renjun’s car. But Renjun has told you, pretty infamously, that his car is messy and smells like a giant foot.
“That’s cruel and unusual punishment!” You say. Let’s just say if Renjun thinks it’s smelly, it’s probably smelly. Renjun has been a teenage boy before, and many teenage boys are a species that usually cannot detect the lack of hygiene.
“Those are the parameters of the game,” Jeno says. “If you resign now, that’s considered a loss, which means you have to clean my car anyway.”
You flatten your lips. Damn, you’re in a deadlock now.
“Fine. Game on.”
-
Lee Jeno destroyed you. But honestly, what else did you expect? Lee Jeno, who has played soccer his whole life and has had plenty of experience with strategy and planning, completely and utterly destroyed you. It wasn’t the smartest idea to go guns-blazing with water balloons at Jeno, but you didn’t have many other choices. Your long-distance aim and contact skills weren’t that good, for you never played “sports,” sports as in competitive sports since you only danced for a couple of years. You did use your surroundings well, hiding behind trees and bushes so you can stalk your way to Jeno, but that only did so much.
So now you are wearing an old T-Shirt and some jeans shorts, opening the front door and performing the ‘walk of shame’ as you walk to Jeno’s house, where boxes of unopened trash bags, air freshener, sponges, and soapy water sit.
Jeno is only a few feet away from the cleaning materials he left out, sitting on a beach chair.
“Y/N,” Jeno says, waving to you in a friendly way. “Thank God you’re here. I was worried you might happen to forget about the deal. I really need you right now,” Jeno chuckles, “because my mom wanted me to clean my car last week. She said that if I don’t clean my car by tonight, then she’s really gonna give it to me.”
“Good,” you say, laughing a bit to yourself. “Somebody’s gotta tell you. Back in high school, I was afraid to get in this car, or else I would never be the same again.”
Scrunching your nose, you peek your head inside Jeno’s car. It’s an old 1984 Nissan 300zx, most likely used because if his parents are anything like your parents (which not so surprisingly, growing up around each other, they are), they would never give their teenage sons brand new cars. The people in your neighborhood certainly aren’t tearing at the seams with money.
Gulping harshly, you decide to throw whatever junk you find in the car away. You pulled out wrappers, chip bags, old water bottles, and random coins that you pocketed (Jeno let you since even he knows how bad cleaning his car is – which is why he held off on it for so long). Jeno kept you good company, and you found yourself chitchatting with him as you organized every piece of junk in his car in a trash bag.
“Are you liking college so far?” Jeno asks broadly when chatter between you both slowly dies. No response.
“What’s wrong?” Jeno asks. He knows he’s right to think that when it takes you a few minutes to respond, a few moments for your gaze to focus on him.
“College hasn’t been that fun,” you confess to Jeno, the words falling out of your mouth faster than it should. “I haven’t made a lot of friends despite finishing my sophomore year, and my roommate is a pain. Her entire side of the room is so messy and acts like I’m unreasonable. It’s a small space anyway, she should keep it clean!” You huff, scrubbing the cloth seats in Jeno’s car harder. It felt as though a huge weight has been lifted off of your shoulders.
You were surprised that you confessed this to Jeno of all people. When you told Renjun this freshman year, he advised that it would get better after the first semester, and your parents said the same thing, but nothing really changed. You’re going to university on a significant scholarship, and you didn’t want to give that up if you decided to transfer somewhere closer to home, closer to your support network of familiar places and people. Ever since then, you didn’t tell anyone how miserable you were in college.
“Can I make a confession?” Jeno asks suddenly. You were worried that you were being way too personal after Jeno didn’t say anything for a while; after all, Jeno is your brother’s friend and not yours.
“Shoot,” you say.
“I didn’t have many friends in college either. Why do you think I always hang out with Renjun every summer?” You’re piling all the trashbags together near the edge of the Lee property for the trash truck to come later today, but hearing this is enough for you to turn around and look at the raven-haired boy quizically.
“I don’t believe that,” you scoff. “You have teammates and a hundred girls who would tattoo your name on their chests immediately.”
“They’re just teammates and girls. I got along with my teammates, but I don’t talk to them on a regular basis after graduating college.” Jeno sighs. “And the girls who liked me in college liked me because I was ripped. None of them really wanted to know me personally.”
The silence between you both is deafening. You purse your lips, sympathy in your voice. “I had no idea.”
“Most people don’t,” Jeno says. “I try not to tell everyone this,” he says, a slight humorous lilt in his voice.
“Those girls missed out,” you say, a soft smile on your face. “You’re hilarious and great to be around.”
“It seems like I have that effect on the members of the Huang family,” Jeno smiles, any sign of melancholy gone from his face.
“Say,” you start off, bending down to reach the mat on the car floor. “if I find something I think is of value in this car, then can I keep it?”
Jeno nods. “Sure, I guess. I can’t imagine what could be of value.”
“Now I’m 20,000 won richer,”
Jeno’s back instantly becomes more rigid as he sees you wave a few crumpled bills in the air, almost unrecognizable due to the amount of dust and grime accumulated on it. A couple of coins here and there were tolerable for him to let you keep, but 20,000 won is a lot for loose change in the car. “I tend to find 20,000 won very valuable,” you smile.
Jeno curses under his breath.  “Touche.”
“I guess we both won.” You shrug your shoulders, “You’re gonna have a clean car for your mom, and I have enough money to buy that Backstreet Boys album.”
-
Just the other day, you ran into Taeyong, the owner of the pet shelter you used to volunteer at. You were at the supermarket, picking up some groceries for your parents when you saw the man carefully weighing a bag of Roma tomatoes. Although he is almost five years older than you, it certainly doesn’t seem that way with how youthful his face looked, and when he noticed you putting bananas in your shopping cart, he was glad to see you. You both engaged in pleasant conversation about your lives since you volunteered at his pet shelter, and he mentioned to you that he was short of hands. Recently, a full-time employee quit, and he needed people more than ever. He offered you a job on the spot, and you gladly took it – you needed something to do this summer anyway, and your parents were starting to get a little restless with how much you were at home, revolving your life around TV Guide.
You had been working for a few days at the store and got to know the two other employees, one of which is Doyoung, who you already knew from your time volunteering at this shelter, and Sungchan, a boy around Jeno’s age who had been working for a year. Compared to the last time you saw this shelter as a senior in high school, not much has changed. The only thing that was different was that the walls were recently wallpapered.
Taeyong greeted you when you walked in, and you already started following a routine you set up for yourself; the good thing about hiring you was that he didn’t have to teach you much since as a volunteer, you would feed and wash animals a couple of hours a week, which as an employee, that was the same thing on a fuller time basis. In the mornings, you liked to start off walking dogs in the dog walking area on the roof before the sun would shine mercilessly in the afternoon. Carrying a light brown golden retriever puppy named Dasom, you head down the roof stairs back to the lobby, where Jeno is sitting on a hard, metal chair.
“Jeno?” You ask. “What are you doing here?” You don’t ever remember telling him that you would be here.
Jeno smiles at you. “Your mom told me I could find you here. And some other guy said you were walking a dog, so he told me to wait here.”
You nod. He must not have meant Doyoung since he would already know him from his time at the pet shelter in high school. “So you must have met Sungchan.”
Jeno shrugs his shoulders. “Yeah, I guess. He said he was going to wash some of the new arrivals.” While speaking, Jeno’s lips curled into a small smile. “Remember when we used to do that?”
“God,” you say, shaking your head. “That was one of the worst jobs.” You said. If there was anything that dogs and cats hated was being in water. New arrivals, especially strays, haven’t been introduced to clean water in a long time and can get especially rowdy since they are also untrained.
“There was one dog that me, Renjun, and Chenle had to wash, and let’s just say that it looked like we took a bath too!” At this, you both laugh.
You lick your lips, looking at Jeno, good humor in your eyes. “I almost feel bad leaving Sungchan all by himself.” Crossing your arms and leaning your back against the wall, you look at Jeno, your head cocked.
“So what are you really doing here?”
Jeno looks fondly in the distance. “I think Bongshik needs a new playmate,” you smile at Jeno. For as long as you can remember, Jeno has always been a cat person, and after much convincing, his parents agreed to get him a cat seven years ago. They initially were only getting Jeno the cat to help teach him responsibility, because as a teenage boy, he had none, but slowly, Bongshik grew on them too. Ever since, the Lee family’s soft spot has been Bongshik.
“Do your parents know?” You ask.
Jeno smiles. “They were the ones who suggested the idea.” As Bongshik grew older, his energy hasn’t quelled, and for the lack of neighborhood cats, he follows the Lee family around everywhere in the house.
“What breed?” you ask.
“Maybe a Bengal. I’ve heard that they are energetic.”
“I think there are some Bengals. Let’s check the back.” You both go into the room adjoining the lobby, where the rescue and stray animals were stored. After a long night with Doyoung yesterday, the cages were cleaned, and all the animals looked happy that it was clean. You both are greeted with excited barks from the dog section of the room, and finally, you approach the cats in another room. Cats of various breeds occupied the segregated space, from Shorthairs to Bobtailed cats. Black, white, gray, and tabbies are all present, and they look at you and Jeno quizically.
Jeno also observes the felines intently. “Actually, Bongshik is full of energy, so maybe a bit of a quieter playmate to contrast,” Jeno taps his chin, thinking to himself. Some cats wave their tails at Jeno as if wanting his attention while some other cat mothers wrap their tails around their young, protecting them. There are two cats that seem to take his attention, two cats that are sitting together. They don’t appear to have any sort of genetic or familial relationship, for one cat is white with a few specks of black around the ears while the other is a gray tabby with a white chest; they both appear to be Shorthair crossbreeds, though.
“Can I hold that one?” Jeno says, pointing to the white one with the few black specks. You open the cage with the master key that you have in your pocket, and carefully, you take the cat out of the cage. Jeno has his arms open, so when you place the cat in his arms, he cradles the animal, the most adoring look on his face. The other cat seems to be annoyed and meows a lot, its gaze on the white cat, and the white cat starts meowing back.
You and Jeno both melt on sight.
“So cute,” Jeno murmurs, putting the tip of his nose on the crown of the white cat’s head. This cat does not seem to be bothered that it’s being held by Jeno (when most cats take some time getting used to a new human). It is as if they were both destined to meet. This cat does turn to face his companion still in the cage once in a while, still meowing.
“I think this one’s more concerned that its friend is not being held,” you jest. You stand on your tiptoes to grab the other, carefully cradling the tabby in your arms. It starts meowing for its companion, and you face Jeno.
“This one’s also so cute,” Jeno says longingly. He comes closer to you, bending a little, his face close to the tabby that you’re holding. His smile is wide, his eyes shaped like crescents. Carefully, he holds the white cat with one cradled arm, and with the other, he uses his index and middle finger to pet the other cat. The tabby meows happily.
As Jeno tries to stand upright again, his head almost bumps your face, but he stops before that, carefully meeting your gaze. For what feels like an eternity, you both stare. Jeno’s eyes are like brown pools, and you notice every detail on his face; how dark and pronounced his eyebrows are compared to his suntanned skin, how pretty his nose looks against his face, the fringe on his forehead that is so close to giving a lovetap to his eyes, how shapely his chin is, a small, stray mustache hair kissing his upper lip…
His lips. Pursed slightly as he drinks in the sight of the little details of your face as well. They look a little chapped –
“There you are Y/N! Is that you Jeno?” A familiar voice rings across the large room, and you notice it to be Doyoung. His gaze is focused on you both. You and Jeno immediately stop gazing at each other, as if Doyoung flipped a switch, and you both focus your attention on the raven-haired employee, his hair wet from a fresh shower. He usually comes to work at eleven or noon since he is not a morning person.
“Yeah, it’s me,” Jeno says, waving before repositioning his other hand to hold the white cat in his arms.
“Long time no see,” Doyoung remarks. “How’s college?” He asks.
“Graduated in the spring,” Jeno says. “I’m back with my parents now.” He says.
“Oh,” Doyoung says, nodding awkwardly. “Well, if you want a job, the door is always open here. Trust me, we need the help,” Doyoung says.
“Thanks,” Jeno says, smiling courteously at Doyoung. “I’m actually here to look for another cat. Maybe two,” Jeno looks at you, an eyebrow raised in anticipation. Suddenly, he sneezes.
“Jeno,” you chastise. “What about your cat allergy?” You suddenly remember. Jeno learned affirmatively after adopting Bongshik that he had a cat allergy, and his sister and parents tried to convince him to give Bongshik back to the shelter, but Jeno vehemently refused. After almost a month of bonding with the feline, he didn’t have the heart to give Bongshik back. Instead, he went to the drug store and got some anti-histamines to suppress his allergies and eventually got more personalized medicine from his doctor. At first, his doctor said the best (and cheapest) course of action would be to return Bongshik, but Jeno just took the prescription and has since then been refilling his prescription on a regular basis.
“What cat allergy?” Jeno asks, but he sneezes a few times. Cocking your head at the raven-haired boy, you snort.
“That cat allergy?” You say, leaning all your weight on one leg.
“It’s nothing,” Jeno says dismissively. “I’ll ask my doctor. I’ll probably just have to up my dose.”
It was Doyoung’s turn to snort. “Can you really be around three cats every day?” He asks. “The only reason your allergy didn’t get out of control while you were volunteering here was because I kept you with the reptiles.” You nod in agreement. The reptiles were kept in another room on the far side of this shelter, far away from all the cat hair floating around in this room. Jeno, though, still used to sneak a few minutes with the cats.
“I can be around three cats!” Jeno says defensively. By this time, the white cat is rubbing itself against Jeno’s T-shirt.
Feeling this, Jeno’s gaze softens, and he smiles at the kitten, whose brown eyes Jeno looks in to. “I am going to name you Seoli,” Jeno says in a soft tone and gazes at the cat in your arms. “And I’m going to name you Nali.”
“Did your parents agree to two new cats?”
“Well,” Jeno trails off, shrugging his shoulders.
“Lee Jeno!” You say.
“My parents grew to like Bongshik. They’ll grow to like Seoli and Nali.” Jeno reasons.
You roll your eyes. Lee Jeno is the only person in the whole world you know who has a cat allergy and still wants three cats. “Lee Jeno, you’re crazy, you know that?”
-
Seoli and Nali instantly got along with Bongshik. The three of them would sleep together, eat together, and roam the house together, only being apart momentarily. Like Jeno predicted, his parents grew to like the addition of Seoli and Nali to the family.
Hearing about the new cats from you, Renjun would visit Jeno, and you would come along with them and play with all three cats. Renjun started joking that you two started being best friends without him and that you were leaving him in the dust.
Renjun started a new job as a paralegal and became busier than ever; he was working to save enough money to live in an apartment closer to the law firm he worked at, which is forty-five minutes away from your house. The commute itself was tiring and he was working extra hard to get along with his coworkers, going to events, and establishing contacts.
Like many weekends, this weekend Renjun was hanging out with a few coworkers at a party at one of their houses, and normally, you didn’t mind this, only joking to him that he only came home to eat and sleep.
In mid-July, without fail, you and Renjun would always go to the beach, ever since he was old enough to drive; it was valuable “sibling time” that your parents supported and even suggested; as teenagers, you didn’t always get along, and your parents wanted you both to establish a close relationship because sibling relationships were the only life-long relationships.
This weekend, Renjun was busy, and for the next few weekends, he would be catching up with old friends and would even go on a few dates, for his dating life was pretty sparse with how busy college was. You were hoping that Renjun could blow someone off and come with you and not break the tradition, but your hopes did nothing to change reality after Renjun told you about his plans and apologized that he wouldn’t be able to come to the beach with you.
So you decided, if you can’t bring your brother to the beach, bring your brother’s best friend.
At 7 AM on a Saturday, you knock on Jeno’s door, a few doors from your house, dressed in a casual T-Shirt and jeans shorts. You’re ready to go, without a doubt in your mind that Jeno won’t come.
Jeno answers the door, rubbing his eyes. From the looks of the dark house, Jeno’s parents aren’t awake. As a means to hold himself up, Jeno leans against the door. He’s dressed in long pajama bottoms and a black T-shirt (that is littered with Seoli’s white cat hair). The white, spotted cat follows Jeno to the door, sitting a few feet away from the living room couch.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?” He asks, his voice heavy with drowsiness.
“We’re going to the beach, obviously,” you say matter-of-fact, in a voice that Jeno didn’t look like he wanted to argue with. He knew that you were hurting because Renjun couldn’t come with you to the beach any time soon, so he was ready to be called to go to the beach.
“Right now?”
“Yes right now. Don’t you remember that Renjun and I would leave early in the morning to get a head start to the beach?” The closest beach to your house is two hours away, and being landlocked during the college semester makes you restless for the yearly summer beach trip as well.
“Yeah I know but–”
“No ‘buts,’” you interrupt. “If we leave now, then we get the whole day at the beach. Be ready in thirty minutes.”
Jeno acknowledges with a sleepy grunt before closing the door, and you head back to your house to eat breakfast. If you left hungry, then you would be tempted to stop along the way for snacks, making the drive longer. So you ate a hearty bowl of oatmeal, a banana, and drank a glass of water before seeing Jeno standing at your door twenty-five minutes later with one of his sister’s peach-colored tote bags hanging on his shoulder, in casual shorts and a T-shirt, and a navy colored cap covering his black hair. You already had your things ready in a bag next to the dining room table, and you carry your bag and exit out the front door, saying a quick goodbye to your parents.
Out on the porch, you jog across the driveway to Jeno, and your parents wave to him. “Have fun guys,” they chorus, smiling. You roll your eyes.
“It’s like they’re leaving us on a playdate,” you say, and Jeno smiles, the tiredness in his eyes long gone.
“Want to ride in my car? After all, it’s clean now,” Jeno says. You sigh, but it’s not exasperated or tired.
“I should know,” you say.
Jeno’s Nissan sits in its usual place on the driveway, and Jeno takes his keys from his pocket, unlocking the car. As you both load your bags onto the back seat, you breathe in the air. “Minty fresh,” you smile, looking at the tree-shaped car freshener hanging on the rearview mirror. “You better keep this car clean because I am not cleaning it again,” you threaten, pointing your finger accusingly.
“I pinky promise,” Jeno says, he extends his hand, his pinky out, and you grasp it with your pinky, pinkies locking as well as your gazes.
Jeno’s hands are way softer than you expected.
The pinky promise lasts way longer than you expected, with you quickly pulling away and getting into the front passenger seat of the car. Jeno hops in the driver’s seat, and the car starts.
Jeno’s driving is smooth, and through the window, you admire the scenery. You pull out of your neighborhood, driving on local roads for a good few minutes, and you admire the beautiful scenery of houses, shrubs, and picket fences before getting on the highway. Now, cars are zooming past you both, of all sorts of shapes and colors, minivans to sport cars, black, white, gray, and silver.
“Turn on some music,” Jeno prompts. It’s easy to get distracted on the road, not by external forces such as a random bird flying by, but from the lull of the car when driving on the highway – when driving on the highway, the roads look the same, a cause for boredom and tiredness. The steady humming of Jeno’s car is particularly relaxing on this early morning.
“I thought you would never ask,” you say, in a voice that sounds mischievous. You twist your body to reach the back of the car, and you reach into your bag, fishing for something. When you pull it out, Jeno rolls his eyes.
“Seriously?” Jeno groans.
“What? You said you wanted music,” you say defensively.
“I didn’t mean the Backstreet Boys.”
You don’t listen to him and instead press the ‘CD media’ button on the front dashboard and insert your CD. The music is catchy, and you hum along to the songs that you’ve loved, namely ‘I’ll never break your heart’ and ‘Everybody.’
“I’ll never understand girls. I mean, what’s the appeal of boybands anyway?” Jeno says after some time.
“It’s the group dynamic, the interactions, the teamwork, and the songs are catchy as –” you stop yourself, cocking your head at Jeno. “Are you nodding along?”
“N-No,” Jeno stutters, purposely keeping his gaze fixed on the road so he doesn’t have to face you.
“Admit it,” you say, a smug look on your face. “You like it.”
“No, I don’t” Jeno argues.
“Yes, you do,” you argue back.
“No I don’t,” Jeno repeats.
You snort at this. “Look at us, we sound like two five-year-olds.”
“I think,” Jeno says with a joking lilt, “that we sound like an old married couple.”
“That too.” You look at the boy, an eyebrow arched.
After a few moments of silence, Jeno changes the topic. “I’m hungry,” he says. “Let’s get some instant ramen.”
“Where’s the microwave, genius?”
Jeno pouts. “Fast food?”
“We’re gonna be there in like fifteen minutes. I have some snacks in my bag.” Once again, you reach for the back of the car, fishing inside the tote bag for a bag of Cheetos.
“Here,” you say, holding the bag towards him.
“I’m driving, genius,” he says, emphasizing the last part in a mocking tone. You roll your eyes.
“I guess you’re gonna have to feed me,” Jeno says.
“Seriously?” You groan.
“Yes. If I could open the bag with my eyes and feed the Cheetos with some mad telekinesis, then I would.”
“Well, you would have to keep your eyes on the road, so you still couldn’t do that either.” Jeno grunts at your response, and you silently feel a small victory winning this conversation.
You open the bag and take a Cheeto in your left hand. Jeno opens his mouth, and you place the piece in his mouth. He crunches on it, and when you see his Adam’s apple move as he swallows the snack, you reach in and grab another piece. On and on this pattern goes until there are no Cheetos left in the bag, and at the final time you drop a piece of the snack in his mouth, he playfully clamps down on your fingers.
“Jeno!” You exclaim.
Jeno has a youthful, playful look on his face. “That’s what you get for forcing me to listen to this crap.”
“You like it too!”
Jeno rolls his eyes. “Here we go again.”
-
The rest of the car ride is filled with laughs, as though you were supposed to bring Jeno along to the beach this year instead of Renjun. The beach is filled with people wanting to soak up some sun, children playing games, and surfers swimming in the water. Luckily, there’s enough beach for everyone; the sands on this beach are well-maintained, and they go on for miles.
Suddenly, you grab the boy’s wrist, and Jeno looks surprised, a cute doe-like expression on his face (Jeno has the most beautiful, expressive eyes).
“Come on,” you say, a wide smile on your face. “I’ll show you a nice spot.”
Together, the two of you are lugging your tote bags across the beach, careful not to step on anyone being buried in sand or children playing games or other people sunbathing. It’s like the sand wants to absorb your feet, which is why your steps are labored, along with the load you are carrying.
The spot you take Jeno is more secluded, with sparse surfers coming about here and there. It’s next to a jagged, gray peak, perfect for divers. The small pieces of eroding rocks falling to the water make it less kid-friendly, but it’s still a good spot if you want to relax and get away from the noise. Right here is where you decide to set up, a few yards from the shore where the cold seawater can’t touch you.
Carefully, you unpack your tote bag, set up your beach towel, and place a book on the sand. The beach was always a way for you and Renjun to relax together, talk about updates in your lives, and strengthen your relationship. But sometimes you both liked to sit in silence, enjoying each other’s company while enjoying the words of an author, the introverts you both are.
Before sitting down, you also take off your T-shirt and shorts, revealing a navy, strappy bikini underneath. Picking up your book, you open it to the first page and sit down. Next to you, Jeno takes off his shirt, revealing toned abs. (What did you expect? He plays soccer). You don’t want to admit that your attention on your book is long gone.
When Jeno catches you staring, an immediate flare of heat hits your face, and you quickly try to bring your attention back to your book, starting at the first sentence. You’re unable to keep focus anymore, just re-reading the same sentence at least five times because your brain is too distracted to understand the sentence.
“You don’t have to look away,” Jeno teases. “Every girl wants a look at Jenabs.”
“That’s what you’re calling it? Jenabs?”
“Yes. Is there a problem?” Jeno asks.
“Obviously. It sounds so self-centered,” you huff.
“You’re just lashing out because I caught you red-handed.”
“Maybe you’ll get a red hand to your pretty face,” you challenge, a humorous look in your eyes.
“Ah,” Jeno says thoughtfully. “You think I’m pretty?”
Another hot flare hits your cheeks, with the heat of a thousand suns. “No,” you say.
“Yes,” Jeno counters.
“No,” you repeat, this time more confident. By this time, you both are gazing at each other intently in silence, until suddenly, you start laughing. Jeno does too. It was one of those times when the moment seemed so serious, but the argument was just so silly.
“Just admit that you think I’m attractive,” Jeno says simply.
“Every girl with a pulse thinks you’re hotter than a sidewalk in August.” You deadpan.
“I don’t care what they think,” Jeno says suddenly. You quirk an eyebrow at this statement. Quickly, Jeno recovers himself. “I care about what you think.” He smiles. “You’re the only person I’ve known that hasn’t ever brought up my looks.”
“Why should I?” You shrug your shoulders. “You know you’re hot.” At this you and Jeno laugh again together, but after a few moments, Jeno stops laughing.
“So you admit it?” Jeno asks curiously.
“Yes, I do.” You say sighing, hating that you’re giving him this victory. “Lee Jeno, you’re one of the most attractive men I’ve seen in my whole life,” you vow. “Now, can I get back to my book?” You ask.
“Fine.” Jeno obliges. He sits down on his towel laid out beside yours, lying down on his back as you read your book. His gaze changes from the ocean’s waves licking the sandy shores to the side of your face. You’re maybe a chapter in when Jeno interrupts your train of thought.
“Are you really gonna be reading the whole time?” Jeno whines. “I didn’t bring anything to do because I thought we were gonna go in the water.”
“Th-The water?” You ask. You look at Jeno as if he grew a second head.
“Yes, water. We’re at the beach per your request. Remember?” Jeno says slowly.
“Yeah, but I didn’t think–”
“You didn’t think about swimming at the beach?” Jeno asks incredulously.
“No,” you respond, your voice small.
“You’re literally wearing a swimsuit,” Jeno points out.
“Yeah, but that’s just to get a good tan,” you say. Now that you say it out loud, it does sound kind of ridiculous that you didn’t even make plans about getting in the water today. “And plus,” you say a bit awkwardly. “I don’t really know how to swim.”
It seems as though Jeno’s eyes are about to bulge out of his face. “You’ve been coming to this beach for years, and you don’t know how to swim?”
“I never really learned how. I mean, I did, but I wasn’t very good, and I’m super out of practice. I usually just come here to read or admire the scenery – Jeno!” You exclaim. Jeno snatches the book out of your hand and places it on the towel. He’s strong enough to hoist you up, and you’re left with no choice but to jog along with him to the edge of the shore, kicking up mounds of sand; you have a stinking suspicion about what he’s going to do.
“Today’s the day I’m gonna teach you how to swim.” He says.
“B-But,” you stutter, struggling for words. Jeno doesn’t look like he’ll take no for an answer.
“I promise I won’t let go of you, and we won’t go far from the shore.” He says, his gaze sincere. “Let’s start off with floating. Spread your arms out and kick your feet up. Act as though you want to lie down on the water like it’s sand. Like this.” Jeno demonstrates, going slightly away from the shore and deeper in the water, leaving you knee-deep, standing on the wet sand underfoot. Once Jeno has floated for a few seconds, he positions himself upright, everything except his neck and face submerged in water as he swims towards you, walking the last few steps to you.
“Now you try.” You look a little nervous but follow what Jeno says. You kick your feet up and try to treat the water like it’s the sand you rest your towel against; Jeno’s hand is on the small of your back as he holds you up. You’re not used to the feeling of water in your ears, and you’re struggling to stay afloat as you accidentally breathe in water. Hearing you cough, Jeno sets you upright, and you cough up the salty water.
“I don’t like,” you say between coughs. “The water in my ears. It keeps going in.”
“Trust me when I say that when you don’t want water to go in your ears and nose, it doesn’t. When you are thinking about water going into your ears and nose, it does. Now, let’s try again.”
“No,” you whine. “I don’t like swimming.”
“Please?” Jeno asks. “For me? After all, you did drag me out here so early.”
“Fine.” You relent.
“Like I said,” Jeno chides, “Kick up your feet and lie on the water like it’s sand. Don’t struggle too much right now. Unless you don’t think about the water around your ears and nose, it won’t go in.”
You repeat what you did earlier, kicking up your feet and lying on the water like it’s sand. This time you don’t move a muscle. You let the gentle low-tide waves of the water kiss your skin and wash over you again before it’s exposed to the refreshingly cool ocean breeze again. Jeno’s hand is against the small of your back as he leads you to deeper waters.
“What are you doing?” You ask.
“Floating is all the same. If you can float in knee-deep water, you can float in deeper water.” Jeno looks into your eyes. “Don’t worry, I still won’t let go.”
You don’t struggle against the water, and when you’re in the deeper water, Jeno helps bring you upright on the water. This time, your feet are unable to touch the ocean floor, and before the panic can settle in your eyes, Jeno is holding your waist.
“Upright floating works the same way. Don’t struggle. Hold your head up high.” You follow as Jeno says and observes how he does it. Jeno slowly takes his hands away from your waist and holds your arm instead. Slowly, he lets go, and here you are in front of him, swimming; you’re pretty amazed too.
“Oh my God, I’m doing it!” You say excitedly. Jeno shares your excitement.
“I know. To think you wanted to give up,” Jeno shakes his head.
Your bodies are close, so close that you can feel Jeno’s breath on your nose. Jeno looks almost angelic with the way the salty water glistens against his face as if his skin is made of diamonds. His jet-black hair is stuck to his forehead, and your hair is in thick, salty strands, but the moment still feels perfect; the shouting of children in the distance doesn’t bother either of you.
You almost want to ki–
Suddenly, you’re taken out of your thoughts when a splash of cold water hits your face. Jeno has already swum a few feet away, the culprit of the cold splash on your face.
“Tag! You’re it!” He says in between giggles.
“Jeno!” You exclaim, trying your best to swim and splash him.
He’s the most handsome, adorable dork you’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.
-
Every summer, city council organized a summer concert series held at the local park. They mostly featured student bands, cover bands, and lots of vendors. But most importantly: they were free.
The one happening tonight was the last one of this year’s series, and there would be fireworks. You hadn’t been able to attend the last few summer concerts because of your growing responsibilities at the pet shelter; you were becoming pet manager, a position where you would inventory what animals were available to adopt, and the numbers were changing every day. Also, Doyoung had gone on vacation along with many of the volunteers, so you, Taeyong, and Sungchan were left to cover for them.
Tonight though, you were given the day off, so you decided to see if Jeno was free to go to the concert with you.
You tell your mother your intentions, and when you’re done talking, she gives you a sly look.
“You’ve been hanging out with Jeno a lot recently. Is there something I should know about?” She asked. She doesn’t ask this in a condescending, strict-parent tone, but of one as a friend. For the most part, your mother was always the woman you came clean to and got advice from; there were truely only minal secrets you kept from her.
“Yeah Y/N, is there something we should know about?” Renjun asks.
Renjun. For a while, you had completely forgotten about him. He had started getting suspicious recently that you were harboring feelings for his long-time best friend. After the beach trip, he started getting suspicious, but he had been too busy to do anything about it, only sulking in the corner thinking about it.
You had to admit that you had a little crush on Jeno, in that every time you thought about him, your heart started racing in an exhilarating way. Maybe when Renjun was around, you weren’t as slick as you thought you were. “No,” you say, a little quieter than you meant for it to be. You clear your throat, making your voice louder. “Nothing’s going on. Jeno’s always available to hang out, which is why I’m hanging out with him.”
Your mother doesn’t say anything, knowing Renjun is in the room. Most likely, Renjun was worried that if you and Jeno got into a relationship, it would mess up the long-time friendship they had, and if you broke up, it would be even worse. You understood his sentiment, but it’s not like Jeno likes you back…
Right?
The way he looked at you, the way that when you talked, he was fully attentive, his soft, expressive eyes reacting, listening to every word you say.
That’s just because you guys have become good friends, right?
(A part of you wishes that it isn’t).
You’re wearing your standard summer uniform of daisy dukes and a T-shirt when you walk up to Jeno’s house and the door opens before you knock. Jeno is standing at the entrance of his house, already dressed in shorts and a sleeveless shirt, showing off his strong arms.
“Jeno,” you say. “Do you want to go to the summer concert together?” You ask.
“Actually,” Jeno says shyly. “I was gonna ask you the same thing.”
“Great.” Jeno invites you in and asks if you want anything. You said you would just have some water. He pours you a glass before heading to his room to grab a towel and some bug spray. Stepping outside, you both spray yourselves, and when he goes back inside to put the bug spray away, he tells his parents that he’s going to be out and will be back before ten.
The park is a short drive from your neighborhood, and it is just as scenic as you remembered it to be. It’s about sixty-something acres filled with walking trails that loop around your city, which city council has tried hard to have more “green” city planning, rather than letting this place become a concrete jungle.
In this park, there is lots of green space for people to lay their towels across the grass and enjoy the music. Most of the people here are young parents with budding families, in which a family-friendly free concert with a packed picnic and fireworks is the perfect summer activity. There are also older people like you and Jeno, showing up to the concert today because they were bored. The beginning of August signaled to high schoolers the start of school, and to college people that they would be moving back to their dorms soon. Either way, the park is packed. Tonight isn’t as hot and stuffy as most nights, which also accounts for why there are so many people here tonight.
“What’s the theme for this concert?” You ask Jeno when you hop out of his car.
“‘70’s American rock,” he says.
“Fun,” you say. You weren’t an avid rocker, but you turn on the oldies radio station, you didn’t mind listening to a few rock songs. “It’s better than working at the pet shelter every single night.” Jeno laughs. You loved your job more than anything, but you wanted a semblance of work-life balance.
“Now I’m glad I didn’t take up Doyoung’s offer immediately,” Jeno says.
“It isn’t usually this bad,” you say. “It’s just that Taeyong and many volunteers are on vacation, and I’m being given more responsibilities.”
“Maybe I could come in and volunteer just to help you out,” Jeno says wistfully. “I’ll have to find time in my schedule,” he jokes.
You raise a brow at the boy. “In your schedule of doing nothing?” You snort.
“It’s not nothing,” Jeno counters. “I’m just relaxing before finding a job. Jobs are going to be there after I take a little break from college,” he says. Renjun wouldn’t ever be caught saying something like this. For him, it’s always one thing onto the next. Renjun is a restless man, and taking a break without a job would drive him crazy.
While Renjun is ridiculously Type A, Jeno is the opposite. He’s used to opportunities coming to him, believing that everything has a way of working out in the end. It’s crazy how the two have managed to be friends with such vastly different outlooks on life.
You drop the topic, opting to lay out the towel that Jeno brought. There’s enough space for both of you to fit… but tightly. Even though you’re wearing bug spray, the sharp, freshly cut grass makes your skin feel itchy.
“I guess we’re gonna have to sit like this,” you say a little awkwardly. Jeno turns to face you, his face only inches from yours; your arms brush Jeno’s biceps, and you feel your throat become dry.
“Yeah,” he says softly. No witty reply.
The silence between you is broken by the cheers of the audience. The performers are here.
“What’s up Neo City?” The head performer asks the audience. He’s a man in his mid to late twenties, wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. Cheers are the response, filling the air.
“We’re Neo Culture Tech, and today we’re going to be performing some covers to end Neo City’s 1997 Summer Concert Series! We hope you enjoy the performance!” The man stops talking, and the park erupts with cheers.
The first note is played on the piano, followed by the addition of drums and electric guitar. The songs go on one by one, and Neo Culture Tech plays popular songs by the Eagles, ACDC, Fleetwood Mac, and Def Leopard. Parents are dancing with smaller children, singing along to the songs they listened to in grade school, while younger people sit on their towel and jam out to the songs less physically.
You and Jeno are bobbing your heads together to the music, stealing glances at one another. Jeno was able to sing along a little to ‘Shoot to Thrill’ and ‘Gold Dust Woman,’ while you were able to sing along to ‘Witchy Woman’ and ‘Hotel California’ after memorizing the lyrics so long ago. As the guy who was playing the guitar played the guitar solos for ‘Hotel California,’ people cheered.
“Before we start the fireworks show, I’d like to end off with a banger. Everyone stand up and find a partner to dance with!” the lead singer said. With that, the band started the chords for ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ by Def Leopard.
Jeno looks at you, a wry smile on his face. “Would you care to dance with me, partner?” He asks, holding out his elbow. You loop your arm in his.
“Of course.”
By this time, more of the younger people were standing up, dancing with their friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, or wives. You and Jeno were dancing, not caring how you looked, your hands clasping and unclasping as Jeno twirled you around to the rock song. You both sing along to the song, knowing the famous song.
When the song ends, you’re out of breath, your chest against Jeno’s, but Jeno doesn’t look very tired; there’s only a small drop of sweat pooling at his forehead, and he’s able to control his breathing. While the crowd screams, cheering for the band that just performed, you and Jeno are in your own world.
You feel like you know what Jeno’s thinking.
Slowly, you start leaning in, and Jeno follows your example. Before long, your lips land on his. You only want it to be a peck, but your body refuses to listen to your brain, so here you were, for what feels like centuries kissing Jeno. You weren’t going to struggle against your feelings anymore, you were going to float like you were at the beach.
Kissing your brother’s best friend.
Kissing the guy that all the girls in high school drooled over, the guy that got so many sports scholarship offers, the guy that many thought was infallible.
But he’s just Jeno, the adorable dork who’s stuck with your brother for almost their whole lives through thick and thin.
The adorable dork that you’ve helplessly fallen in love with.
Reluctantly, you both pull away, your breaths hitting each others’ noses. You’re almost to scared to look Jeno in the eye.
You just changed everything.
While you’re too busy not looking at Jeno, he takes your chin with his thumb and forefinger and tilts your gaze upward, to look at him.
When you look into his beautiful brown eyes, you realize that you didn’t change everything with one kiss. The feelings were always there. While you were slowly falling for Jeno, Jeno started slowly falling for you.
“I-I think I’m in love with you,” Jeno says, his voice unsure, lacking that cocky athlete tone that’s synonymous with Lee Jeno. While one hand remained holding your chin up to face him, the other hand was on your waist.
You didn’t think you ever wanted him to stop touching you.
“No,” he corrects himself, clearing his thoat. Seconds felt like hours, and your heart is racing like crazy.
“I know I’m in love with you.”
You think the loud beating sound is just your heart, but when you look up, the black sky is filled with color, expressive fireworks shining before dissipating. Red, orange, blue, and purple fill the sky before gray smoke settles and floats away. The park is oddly quiet while at least two hundred people enjoy the fireworks and are held by their boyfriends or girlfriends. You look up with Jeno in the same position you were, his arm still on your faces close. Your jaw is close to touching his collar bone, your nose almost touching his neck.
“I love you too.”
-
It’s probably one in the morning right now.
Ever since you and Jeno confessed your feelings, all you were doing was hiding your feelings around your family. You didn’t want Renjun finding out about your relationship just yet, and Jeno had the same idea. You and Jeno wouldn’t advertise to your families that you were hanging out, and most of the time, you met up at the pet shelter, where Doyoung was the only one who knew about the true nature of your relationship (after the unfortunate man walked in on you two making out in the janitor’s closet). You and Jeno forced him to promise that he wouldn’t tell anyone or even give any hints if he ran into your families; in small towns like yours, word travels fast.
Other than seeing Jeno at the animal shelter, you would sneak Jeno into your bedroom at night. A little part of you thrived from the danger you felt, doing something secret and slightly forebidden (nothing this exhilarating ever happened to you in high school or in college). You live in a one-story bungalow (like all the houses in your neighborhood), and your parents’ room is on the other side of your room, with the kitchen separating your rooms.
However, only a wall was separating you from Renjun’s room. You think you’re safe right now since through the paper-thin walls, you can hear Renjun soundly snoring to himself. The iceing on the cake was that Renjun is a light sleeper.
You hear a knock on your window, and you look to see that it’s Jeno. You’re in your pajamas, just a shirt with some pajama shorts, and you get off your bed, systematically opening the latch to your window. Pushing the window, it opens now, and Jeno opens it a little wider, enough for you to let him in.
He’s dressed in a T-shirt, sweatpants, and red, drugstore flipflops. He rubs his arm a little bit, a small scowl on his face.
“You should really trim that rose bush,” Jeno says softly, his gaze following to the rosebush that is near your window. Outside your window, you had a good view of the garden, and your mother took great pain to maintain that garden; your father often joked that it was her third child. For Jeno to get access to your window, he would have to wade through all the plants and flowers, careful not to step on anything because your mom would notice the next day. “I think it roughed me up pretty good.”
“Let me see,” you whisper, pulling his arm. In the minimal light that came from the almost full moon outside, you’re able to see clearly. It’s just a little scratch, that was slowly turning into a red line. No blood.
“You’ll live,” you say rolling you eyes. Sometimes Lee Jeno was the most dramatic guy that you’ve ever met.
Jeno pouts. “I think I would feel better if you kissed it,” he suggests.
You heave a sigh. “I swear to God,” you mutter. You lean foreward, pressing your lips against his arm. “That better?” You ask, crossing your arms and leaning your weight to one leg.
“How about one here?” He asks, pointing to his lips.
You laugh a little to yourself. “Greedy little–”
Jeno interrupts you. “Don’t act like you don’t want to.”
Standing on your toes, you lean in, your nose touching Jeno’s for a brief moment before your lips collide. Jeno’s hands gravitate towards your waist as he tries to push you against the nearest wall. He pushes you to the wall with the window he climbed into your room with. There’s only a narrow gap of space between the edge of the window and the bookshelf that houses all of your albums. He pushes you there, his knee finding its place between you legs. He grunts a little as his lips trail from your mouth to your chin to your neck. He slides you against the wall, your elbow hitting the edge of your bookshelf, and something goes flying off of the top of your bookshelf.
Immediately, you and Jeno jump apart at the noise when the object hits the floor. You’re thankful that the carpet muffles the sound, but it’s still audible since it hit the edge of the wooden door. You bend down to examine the fallen object, realizing that it’s just a snowglobe. You pick it up, putting it on your desk instead. No one stirs. Renjun is still in his room snoring.
“We’re supposed to be quiet!” You whisper loudly, putting your index finger to your lips.
“I’m sorry!” Jeno apologises.
“God, you lumber around my room like you haven’t been here before,” you joke. “How about let’s go into the bed where there’s less chance of making a noise.”
Jeno quickly agrees, and you both go into your bed, under the covers. Jeno’s arms find their place around you once more, and you put your head on Jeno’s chest, feeling his heartbeat. Jeno kisses the top of your head. After a few moments of lying like this in silence, your lips find Jeno’s again. You’re on top of him, him straddling your hips, but quickly, it turns into him on top of you. You both kiss each other with a new kind of fervor, but Jeno pulls away. “How long are we going to be doing this?” He asks. “I don’t know about you, but this whole sneaking around thing is getting kind of old. I just want to call you my girlfriend in front of people.”
You kiss him. “Just until I get the chance to tell Renjun.” You say. “I have a speech prepared.” You clear you throat, shifting your position in bed so you can face your boyfriend. In the dim light in which you can barely see Jeno, you can imagine his beautiful features, barely believing that you are his girlfriend. “I love Jeno, Jeno loves me, we want to be together, and you can’t do anything about it.” Jeno waits for more.
“That’s it?” He asks.
You shrug your shoulders. “What else am I supposed to say?”
Jeno smiles. He finds directness to be one of your most endearing qualities. You aren’t scared to say what’s on your mind, even if it’s controversial. He puts a hand on your cheek and brings you closer to him, kissing you again. His lips smack against your’s and you’re pretty sure you can hear audible popping sounds every time you both mutually pull away for air, only meaning to come back.
When he pulls away, Jeno says. “Y/N, you should at least be a bit more considerate to his feelings. This is going to be a big change for him.” Jeno reasons.
You seemed to like the exact opposite of what Jeno sees in you. You liked the way he considered everyone, and although it sometimes makes it seems like he is a people-pleaser, people who are the most considerate to others’ feelings when it doesn’t align with their own are the people who are the peacemakers, the role models, the people who rule the world.
While you were the fire, Jeno was the water, who made you see reason. And your directness teaches Jeno to stand up for himself.
“I know, but if Renjun can’t accept it, then he needs to grow up.”
“I don’t think Renjun wants to grow up.”
After you hear the new voice, the lights turn on, and you and Jeno immediately jump apart to opposite sides of your twin bed (but it’s not possible without your bodies still touching). This only gives the onlooker a better view of the two parties involved. When you and Jeno finally decide to face the onlooker, you realize that it’s Renjun in his pajamas. He wasn’t wearing his contacts, but he doesn’t need them to recognize the two most important people in his life. His arms are crossed as he examines both you and Jeno, and together, you both struggle for an explanation.
“Surprise?” You and Jeno chorus together.
-
PRESENT DAY
Eventually, Renjun got over it. Or else, he wouldn’t have been able to give such a wonderful best man speech.
That’s right. After years of dating which helped you realize that no one was more perfect for you than Jeno, you and Jeno decided to get married in 2003 after you both were settled in your careers. Jeno, after a few months of relaxation, got a job at a marketing firm, and he worked his way up to become a lead account manager. You, after earning your degree in accounting, worked at a firm for a few years before quitting and becoming the book keeper at Taeyong’s pet shelter, which now you owned. Taeyong moved to his mother’s paid-off house in Seoul to take care of his aging mother, so he stepped down and gave you ownership of his beloved pet shelter. He now worked at his mother’s supermarket and visited you often.
Sometimes, it amazed you how far society has gone since your childhood. You would never have dreamed of touch-screen cell phones with the power of a full-sized computer or your fridge making grocery lists for you. It was convenient and fascinating, but at other times, this new world scared you; only recently has it been confirmed that your phone is listening to you and people are selling your online data.
“Kids, dinner!” You shouted up the stairs. Just after you were married, you became pregnant with your daughter, and five years later, your son came along.
“Coming,” your daughter Yoona said.
“Yeah!” Your son Hyuckjae yelled from his room. That wasn’t really an answer, leaving you signing by the kitchen.
Jeno is already sitting at the table, eating the meal that you prepared. It wasn’t that complicated, just some fried rice with some vegetables and meat, as well as potato soup since you were tired after your long day at work. You sat at the table next to your husband, and you know you don’t have to call for your children again when you hear thundering down the stairs. Yoona’s phone is glued to her hands, while Hyunjae finds his position next to Jeno. The food is on the table, but only three of you are eating; Yoona’s food remains untouched as she sits down and keeps her attention only on her phone, not acknowledging the presence of her family.
“Yoona!” You say, snapping in front of her face. Only when you put your hand between her phone did she actually look at you.
“What do you want mom?” She says, exasperated.
“Aren’t you going to eat your food?”
“Yeah,” she replies, “In a little bit,” Almost immediately, she only looks back at your phone.
“Yoona, put the phone away.”
“That’s right honey,” a new voice interjects, and it’s Jeno. “Put your phone away. We want to have a conversation.” Jeno adds.
“About what?” Yoona asks. She finally puts her phone down and looks at you both. “Are you guys having a midlife crisis?”
“Midlife –” Jeno stops.
“We’re not even that old yet!” You exclaim.
“Yeah Yoona,” Hyuckjae adds.
“Shut up Hyuckjae,” Yoona says, her voice snarky. “Buttering up to Mom and Dad isn’t going to get you a phone.”
“Says who?” Hyuckjae argues back. “Mom and Dad didn’t say anything.”
“Hyuckjae, you’re not getting a phone,” you say stubbornly.
“Oh come on, Mom!” Hyunjae whines. “I’m the only eighth grader without a phone!” Hyuckjae counters.
“Me and your father didn’t have a phone at your age. You’ll live.”
“That’s because you guys lived in the stone ages.”
Jeno scoffs. “The ‘90’s weren’t even that long ago.”
Yoona cocks her head. “The ‘90’s are in history books now.”
You and Jeno both look at each other, but Yoona continues. “The ‘90’s were like thirty years ago.”
You knew that time had passed, but it never really occurred to you the quantifiable number of years; someone born in 1990 is in their thirties now. You vividly remember 1990, being a thirteen year old. Jeno was fifteen. You wonder how he’s feeling.
“That doesn’t change why you should have a phone, Hyuckjae,” you say.
“What about schoolwork? I’ll be in high school in the fall.”
“You can use the family computer.” Hyuckjae groans; the desktop in the computer room right off the entrance of your’s and Jeno’s suburban home (originally the formal dining room) is a Windows 8.1, and somewhat slow.
“Hyuckjae, we’ll get you a phone your first month of freshman year, just like your mom and I agreed on.” Jeno says cooly. “That’s when Yoona got her first phone.”
Hyunjae grunts. “But that’s so long from now.”
Noticing how the conversation mainly was between you, Jeno, and Hyunjae, Yoona gestures to pick up her phone when you point at her.
“Don’t even think about picking up that phone right now, young lady,” you say pointedly, and Yoona’s hands immediately back away.
“Right that conversation we’re going to have,” Jeno says, redirecting the topic. “How was everyone’s day?”
“That’s the conversation you want to have?” Yoona says.
“Yeah, what’s wrong with it?” You ask, defending Jeno.
“Nothing…” Yoona trails away.
“I’ll start,” you say. “I had an overall good day. Taeyong gave me an extra 15% off groceries instead of 10%.” It was incredibly convenient that Taeyong’s mother’s supermarket was only eight miles from the pet shelter.
“Nice,” Jeno says, smiling in that same boyish eyesmile that you fell in love with all those years ago. “I had an average day. It would have been good, but the coffee machine in the cafeteria broke,” Jeno sighs.
You and Jeno both turn to look at Yoona. “I had a good day, I guess. I got a 100 on my calculus test.”
“Great job!” Jeno says. You reach over to rub Yoona’s shoulders.
“You see? I told you it would benefit to go to calculus tutoring,” you say.
“Hyuckjae? How was your day?” Jeno asks.
“Not good. You guys aren’t getting me a phone.”
“We just said we would!” You exclaim. “When you’re a freshman.”
Hyuckjae grunts at this and stands up, heading towards the sink to clear the remnants on his plate. You didn’t realize that Yoona and Hyukcjae had been eating particularly fast tonight, evident by their nearly empty dishes.
“I’m going to the computer room,” he says, not waiting for a response when he leaves. Shortly after, Yoona is done with her food. After rinsing her plate, she leaves it in the sink and snatches her phone off of the dining room table (as if you were going to take it and look at the texts on the notification bar).
“I’m going to my room,” she says. She waits for you to say a resigned ‘okay,’ and she heads up the stairs, sparing no time to look at her phone.
“What could be so important that she can barely stay a free moment without her phone?” You voice to your husband. You and Jeno are taking your time eating your meal at the table, now by yourselves.
“What isn’t so important at that age?” Jeno says before slurping the soup collected in his spoon. “When you’re a teenager, you see things with a different perspective than you would see if you were a mom, for example.”
You sigh at these words, the fresh perspective that your husband is giving you that you failed to see initially. Jeno is good at seeing all sides of the situation; that’s why Renjun always goes to him for advice.
“I guess,” you say, crossing your arms. “I can’t imagine being a kid right now.”
“I bet Yoona and Hyuckjae can’t imagine being a kid in the ‘90’s.”
You sigh. “Things really have changed, haven’t they?” When you and Jeno were younger, you weren’t trying to get the best gadgets to impress your friends, you didn’t have advanced TV’s and vacuum cleaners that were listening to you, you weren’t always on Instagram and Twitter, and the concept of a ‘social media influencer’ didn’t exist at all.
When you and Jeno were younger, you thought the future would resemble Back to the Future. Although there weren’t any hoverboards that actually hovered the ground in 2016, the actual future paralleled the movie in surprising ways with the fact that people were always so distracted with the screens in their hands.
“Don’t you ever just feel…” you start off. Jeno’s attention is on you while he eats.
“Don’t you ever feel that people are always in their own worlds?” You ask. “Always on their phones looking at the latest posts, listening to music, downloading photos? No one ever runs around the neighborhood and draws chalk or play with the neighborhood kids,” you sigh. It was like people preferred to type than to talk.
“Yeah. It wasn’t like that when we were kids,” Jeno says. You eat a couple of spoons of friend rice, the silence between you both evident.
“In a way,” Jeno says, “Things are still the same.”
“How?” You ask.
“Well, people still have the need to be social, whether it’s on social media or in person. And we are still trying to keep up with our friends,” he says. Without words, you know he’s talking about your son and how obsessed he was about getting a phone since his friends started to flash their iPhones and Samsungs.
“I still think life was simpler back in the ‘90’s,” you say stubbornly. “Even though we had to use TV Guide to find out what was on TV, it was still easier. I’m always looking over my shoulder these days,” you confess. “Every single second, so much data is being collected and sold, it makes me worried. On top of all that, social media isn’t good for young kids,” you say, redirecting the conversation back to Hyuckjae. You feel a little guilty seeing Hyuckjae so upset that he doesn’t have a phone, but it was the principle that mattered. You didn’t think phones were good for young kids, to be hooked up to the internet 24/7. Being fifteen and having a phone isn’t much better than being fourteen and having a phone, but you drew the line at high school. You couldn’t protect your son forever, no matter how much you desperately wanted to.
“There’s still something that remains simple, though,” Jeno says. When he gently squeezes your thigh, you think you have an idea.
“This,” he says. He leans over and kisses your lips, cupping your cheek. His lips are soft as they rub rhythmically against your lips. He pulls away, his voice soft. “I love you. We can be in 2092, teleporting to see our great-grandchildren, and I’ll be in love with you,” Jeno says.
You giggle. Nineteen years of marriage, and he still makes you feel like a young bride.
“We can be in 3092 with our brains connected to robots, and I’ll still be in love with you,” you counter, turning this into a competition.
“How about let’s think about right now,” Jeno says. He cups your cheeks in his hands and admires your eyes before he kisses you deeply, as if he isn’t going to kiss you ever again.
The world can change as much as it wants, as long as you have Lee Jeno by your side.

MASTERLIST.
❦ request ━ i was wondering if u could write something about Tom Riddle x Wife Reader and they life and maybe them having kid, just some fluff in general I’m a sucker for happy endings 🤍  💌 — @pearlstiare
+ Reader coming home after a day of work to find Tom in a princess dress with a tiara having a tea party with their daughter — anon.
Tumblr media
a sigh escaped your lips and you rubbed the back of your neck, eyes travelling to the watch you wore on your wrist to check the time. it was late and your paperwork was still piled in stacks, you already sent the people you worked with away and now it was up to you to finish it. this time you let out a groan, you barely spent time with your family these past few weeks and your daughter was getting sad about not seeing your more often before she was sent to bed.
you sighed once more and decided that you could bring some of the documents with you to complete them in your office at home, kill 2 birds with one stone as the muggles would say and so you quickly packed up and turned off the lights before signing off and apparating home.
upon entering your house, you were surprised to hear your daughters voice as she laughed merrily and so with careful steps, you silently walked to her room with the idea of scolding her father for letting her stay awake so late but your thoughts quickly disappeared at the sight of him and you found yourself subconsciously conjuring the muggle camera you bought and clicking a picture.
all and behold, tom marvolo riddle in all his 6′3 glory was struggling to fit into a chair designed for kids definitely not his height or build with a pretty tiara sitting on his head and clip earrings hanging on his ears, his right hand holding a pink cup and his left one holding the small plate that came along with the set. you admired the sight of the stuffed toys seated around the table as company as well.
the sound of a picture being taken snapped both of their attention and tom stared at you with something unrecognisable glimmering in his eyes, if you didn’t know better, you would’ve concluded that it was fear, something your husband claimed to be immune to.

"having fun without me?" you asked with a slight pout, approaching your little girl to pick her up and pepper her face with kisses, eliciting a delighted scream from her as she wrapped her arms around your neck.
"having fun without me?" you asked with a slight pout, approaching your little girl to pick her up and pepper her face with kisses, eliciting a delighted scream from her as she wrapped her arms around your neck.
"you’re not picking favourites right?" with narrowed eyes, you tried to hold a stern face as you looked at her but when she gave you a smile further enhancing the sight of her chubby baby cheeks you failed.
"you're lucky you're cute." you roll your eyes jokingly, placing a kiss on her check whilst you moved your other occupied arm further away from the man attempting to take a hold of the camera in your hold.
"mr. riddle." you said, focus now on him as he stood up with a clear of his throat "what do you think you’re doing?"
you waited patiently and saw him adopt a fake smile onto his face as he answered "i was going to take a picture of the two of you since you just looked so wholesome."
"oh dear, you must know that you can fool others easily but fooling your wife would require more than just a fake smile" you tap his cheek before taking a seat on the cushion on the floor placing your daughter on your lap as she played with your hair.
you looked up at your husband as you stared at the picture you took moments prior "funnily enough, when I first met you i always thought that you reminded me of a prince but now i’m beginning to think that a princess is much more befitting."
"you know I'm capable of getting a new wife, right?" he asked as he tucked his hands into his pockets and walked over to take a seat in front of you.
"with those looks? absolutely." you said "but with that bitter personality of yours? good luck finding one that stays."
tom rolled his eyes and picked up his teacup, sipping the liquid that was definitely juice and not without forgetting to raise his pinky up in the air. you attempted to control your laughter but once your daughter let out a giggle you easily joined her.
"we should do this more often, love, you really seem to be in your element," you looked down at your daughter “doesn’t he, dear?” she nodded her head in response and left your lap, waddling her way towards her father who picked her up and placed her on his, the girl cupped his face and muttered "pretty."
"that, he is."
tom placed a kiss on the little girl’s head before fixing her to sit with her back to his chest and his chin propped gently on her head, a small smile decorating his handsome features "how was work?" he asked whilst you took a bite of the desserts placed on the table.
"same old, boring and boring." tom noticed the way you eyes your bag with contempt.
"alright, it’s time for sleep, princess." he pat the young girl’s head that rested on his shoulder and she smiled tiredly.
"I'll put her to bed,” tom said once he saw you get up “you can go take a shower." you nodded and pecked your daughters face once more as you wished her a good night.
"did you have dinner?"
"I'm not incompetent." he said as he stared down at you with playful narrowed eyes.
"well obviously. if you were, I wouldn't have married you." you chuckled as you walked towards the bathroom leaving a sighing riddle who placed your daughter on the bed and began to tidy up the room.
once you finished showering, feeling content with the way your body felt refreshed and more comfortable, you left the shower and retreated to your bedroom to change into your nightwear. hoping to help tom with what was left to clean, you opened the door to find a dozing 3 year old held in her fathers arms.
“why isn’t she in bed?” you ask and take her from tom’s arms.
"she said she wanted to sleep with us." he saw you smooth down her hair and open your mouth to attempt to light deny but he pushed you closer towards your bed before you could start speaking "finish your work tomorrow."
“tom-” the little girl shuffled in your arms and let out a small whine "you riddles are the same." tom gave you his infamous smirk as he pulled the duvet covers off and rested on the bed, patting the spot beside him.
"come on, it's past her bed time." you rolled your eyes, carefully setting her sleepy figure in the middle of the bed and then got in after her. she quickly fell asleep the second you cuddled into her and tom placed an arm over your waist.
"good night, dear."
"good night, love."

———
Lizzie and Yn have been together for three years. Best three and a half years of Yn’s life. She’s with the girl of her dreams, what more could she ask for?
For the past six months, she’s been planning something for Lizzie. Talking to many jewelers to get opinions on what ring designs. Even talked about it to your closest friend, basically a sister to you, Scarlett Johansson. In those six months, Lizzie noticed how secretive her girlfriend has been. She didn’t think anything of it at first, but every time she asks, she gets no explanation.
One day, walking to her usual coffee shop. Grabbing her coffee, she turns around, only to be hit by a force, spilling her hot coffee on them.
“Oh, shit! I’m so sorry.”
“You’re fine. I wasn’t paying atten— Lizzie?”
Elizabeth looks up.
“Robbie! Hey. How are you?”
“Soaked as of this moment.”
“I am so sorry about that.”
“It’s totally fine. It’s my fault anyway. How ‘bout I buy you another cup while we catch up?”
“I would love that.”
After that moment, they started to hang out more often. They didn’t end their relationship on bad terms years ago, so she thought, why not befriend him?
She would go over to his place, have movie nights, cook dinner and he would come over to her place whenever you were out doing whatever that Lizzie stopped questioning.
It was surprising that the paparazzi hadn’t caught them hanging out together out of the comfort and privacy of their homes.
You were out running some errands one afternoon, when you decided to get something to eat. Walking to yours and Lizzie’s favorite coffee shop, you see her sitting at a table through the window. You pull out your phone and decide to give her a call.
Lizzie hears her phone ring, seeing your name on the screen, she silences it and out it away just in time for Robbie to come back from the restroom, not knowing you were outside watching the scene play out.
“Who was that?” He asked her.
“No one important.” She replied.
You don’t think much of it, just thought that she was catching up with someone, not being able to clearly see who she was with, you went home instead.
Some time has passed. You have three weeks until your four year anniversary, meaning three weeks until you propose. You’ve picked up the ring from the jewelers and it looked even better as you hold the finished product in your hand. You’re excited and can’t wait to spend the rest of you life with Lizzie.
Going home earlier than you told Lizzie, you picked up both of your favorite takeout to surprise her with. Not seeing her as you walk in, you set up all the food at the bar, going up the stairs to cal her down. Nearing your shared bedroom, you hear an unfamiliar voice.
“Give me another chance, please.” It was a man’s voice.
“Robbie.” Isn’t that Lizzie’s ex? You ask yourself.
“I like you, hell I still love you and these past couple of months prove that you have feelings for me too. Meet me at our favorite restaurant tomorrow at six pm if you feel the same way I feel towards you.”
There’s a small pause.
“Okay.”
You couldn’t listen to anymore of the conversation. You quietly hurry down the stairs write a note and grab your keys and wallet and drive off, not having a destination in mind, just wanting to be as far away as possible.
Lizzie walks downstairs shortly after, hearing a car outside thinking it might be you. Once she gets down, she sees the table set up with food. Getting closer to the table, she sees a note.
Will be gone for a while. Don’t know how long. Don’t call.
-Yn
She throws the note away and reheat the food to eat for dinner.
Three Weeks Later
In those three weeks, Lizzie did meet up with Robbie at their favorite restaurant. They’ve been seeing each other regularly without Yn being in the way, even forgetting about her existence.
They decided to go for a long scenic drive, turning the radio on high at a popular station.
“We have some new stuff that we’re gonna be playing in a bit. One song is from an artist that has not released a song in a long time. So, without further ado this is Out of Love by Yn Yln.” Lizzie’s breath hitches and her body tenses. She hasn’t heard about her for a while.
I won't tell you I'm lonely
'Cause it may be selfish
I won't ask you to hold me
'Cause that won't mend what's helpless
There's not a thing I could say
Not a song I could sing
For your mind to change
Nothing can fill up the space
Won't ask you to stay
But let me ask you one thing
Oh, when did you fall out of love, out of love?
Oh, when did you fall out of love with me?
Did you find out about her and Robbie? How did you find out? When did you find out? When did she fall out of love with you? Did she actually fall out of love with you or just filling a missing void while you were gone?
I can't float in an ocean
That's already been drained
I won't cry at your feet now
I know my tears will fall in vain
There's not a thing I could say
Not a song I could sing
For your mind to change
Nothing can fill up the space
Won't ask you to stay
But let me ask you one thing
Robbie hasn’t said a word. He knew what they were doing was wrong, but he was too caught up in finally having the girl back that he didn’t care for the consequences.
Oh, when did you fall out of love, out of love?
Oh, when did you fall out of love with me?
No use wondering
Why your change in heart has wandered
So I'll ask you this question
'Cause it might help me sleep longer
Oh, when did you fall out of love, out of love?
Oh, when did you run out of love for me?
Out of love (out of love)
Out of love (out of love)
Out of love with me
Lizzie was now full on sobbing. It made her remember all of the times she was with you, all the times she listened to your music and made being away from you hurt a little less. How did cheating on you suddenly become something she resorted to?
“That was Out of Love by Yn Yln. Wait, what?” The radio host mutes himself for a bit. “We’ve just received some very horrible news. Music sensation Yn Yln just passed away a couple hours ago.” Elizabeth’s world just came crashing down. She just froze, not knowing how to react to this news. “Her representatives have spoken and released a statement. Stress Cardiomyopathy or Broken Heart Syndrome, is what they said. Wow, she was so young too. That’s just crazy. Rest in peace to such a young and talented musician. She’s touched our hearts with her music. Thank you for blessing us with one last song.”
One. Last. Song.
Those words struck something in her. The song that just played was the very last one you released before you died. And it was you questioning her love for you, or lack there of. She felt guilty. You died from a broken heart. A heart that Elizabeth broke.
She never got a call about you when you passed. It seemed as though you removed her as your emergency contact. She stopped spending time with Robbie. He tried comforting her, but she didn’t want to be anywhere near her living and breathing guilt. She told him to stop contacting him and to lose all contact with her.
Leading up to the day of your funeral, dressed in all black and made her way to where you friends and family were gathered. Scarlett, seeing her come closer, stepped away from her husband.
“You have some nerve showing your fucking face here!”
Lizzie froze in her spot. All the attention was on her now.
“You don’t deserve to be here. I don’t give a fuck if you’ve been together for years because YOU are the REASON she’s GONE! GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HERE! FUCK YOU!” Scarlett was getting pulled away by Colin. “LET GO OF ME!”
Lizzie breaks down, crying of guilt. Scarlett breaks down, crying of anger.
Lizzie eventually decides to leave, not wanting to upset Scarlett more. She knew how close the two of you were, how you passing is harder for her.
“Wait!” She turns back around seeing Scarlett walk to her with a box. “These are go you. You don’t deserve any of it, but she wanted me to give this to you. I don’t know if she knew of her dying, but she knew she wasn’t gonna see you anymore.”
With that, she drives back to you shared home with all the horrible memories with Robbie and the fainted ones with you.
Opening the box she notices three things. A letter, a flash drive and a small velvet box. Opening the velvet box, she sees a beautiful emerald ring. Knowing instantly the meaning of this ring, tears flood out of her eyes. Unfolding the paper it reads…
Lizzie,
If you’re reading this, then Scarlett thought that it was a good time to give it to you. I don’t even know where to start.
Well, I found out. I came home early to surprise you with our favorite takeout and went upstairs to call you down for dinner and overheard your conversation with Robbie. I wanted to know if you went through with his deal and you did so I am writing this as a goodbye to our relationship or not a relationship anymore I guess and to you.
In the flash drive, there’s a song I wrote—
Putting the letter down, Lizzie quickly grabs her laptop and plugs in the dive. She sees one file. She clicks on it and a song plays.
(it’s Emerald Eyes by Anson Seabra you don’t have to play it, just the song I had in mind)
—and it was supposed to be played right before I got on one knee and asked you to spend the rest of our lives together.
(You know how much I love your eyes, so I decided to write a whole song about how they make me feel.)
But, that won’t be happening anymore. After four years of us being together, you still weren’t over Robbie. I just wish that you broke it off with me before getting back together with him. Make it hurt a little bit less.
The ring is something I’ve been working on or working with people on. Took six months. It’s why I was always gone and secretive, which ultimately made you go to another so this whole thing is actually my fault. I drove you away and I’m sorry for me, but glad that you found your way back to the person you love even if that’s not me.
Im just rambling on paper now. I won’t be coming back for any of my clothes or anything. Only took the essentials so you can throw everything out. This is goodbye, I guess. I love you. I always will even if you don’t love me back.
Forever yours,
Yn
How can you blame yourself for her infidelity, she asks herself. You loved her so much that you couldn’t even point the blame at her.
She wishes there was a way to apologize to you. To tell her everything she did was a mistake. Most importantly, she never fell out of love with you. You understood and loved her like no other. She’ll never find anyone to love her like how you loved her, not even Robbie could love her like you did.
She was too late. She can never gain back the time to be with you again, not even for a minute. You were gone, believing she fell out of love.
Lizzie took the ring out of the box and slid it on her finger.
“I do.”
But it’s too late.

yeonjun → boyfriend
i don’t know why i’m allergic to established relationship yeonjun but just think about fwb!yeonjun and it’s just a constant back and forth “will they? won’t they” thing but like all your friends already just function like you’re a couple anyways. and you guys are just like “no we’re not -_-”. but still you both always get jealous when you see the other talking to someone else.
i think this pairs well with frat bro!yj who invites you to one of the parties at his fraternity house but spends the entire night talking to what seems like everyone at this party but you. you decide to entertain yourself with one of his frat brothers who you’ve had some classes with. he drags you to play beer pong with him. from the corner of his eye, yeonjun catches you two laughing together and asks to play the next round against you. you don’t realize how good he is at beer pong. and like the gentleman he is, he urges his brother to drink for you because “you’re twice they’re size, are you really going to let them drink all that alcohol?” so your partner begins to lose his balance, and literally no one is surprised when yeonjun wins.
after the game, he finally gives you the attention that you wanted, when he pulls you to his room. “aww, were you jealous junie?” you tease him as he shuts the bedroom door.
Tumblr media
soobin → daydreamin’
soobin is soooo first love class crush coded. he’s just someone you could / would / should fall in love with the moment that you lay your eyes on him. i was originally thinking of a college!au lab partner thing but walk with me. maybe he’s your best friend’s cousin who is staying with their family for the summer and he has to tag along with the two of you everytime you hang out because he doesn’t know anyone in town and your friend’s parents want him to meet new people.
the first day you met him, you and your friend planned to go strawberry picking. they drove over to your house to pick you up and you see him in the front seat. your friend tells him to move over to the back so you can sit at the front. he gets out of the car and introduces himself to you and you feel all the blood in your body rush up to your face because he is the prettiest person you’ve ever seen. throughout the hour-long drive, you keep making eye contact in the rearview mirror and you feel your stomach doing flips and your organs turning to mush.
at the strawberry fields, he trails behind you and your friend but you try your best to include him in the conversation. your friend ends up walking in front of the two of you and he offers to carry your basket for you as you keep talking and getting to know about him.
Tumblr media
beomgyu → tattooed heart
okay okay okay this kinda sorta has nothing to do with the song but hear me out hear me out i was listening to this song and i randomly thought of tattoo artist!beomgyun. and he’s so creative and artistic and talented. i feel like he is the type of person that could literally do any medium of art and make a masterwork.
one day, you were walking around and you saw that a tattoo place was doing a flash sale and you had always wanted one so you decided to see if they had any that you liked. you were visibly nervous because it was your first tattoo and at first the artist that was doing yours seemed really quiet. but it turns out beomgyu was so sweet and he really did his best to make you feel comfortable throughout the entire experience. he was telling you stories and cracking jokes and everything. you didn’t even notice that he had already finished.
and after that you keep going back to the same place and working with him only and imagine him telling you that he designed a tattoo for you because he couldn’t get you out of his mind lol.
Tumblr media
taehyun → goodnight n go
i definitely was going to go the angsty route for this but i had wayyy to many songs from yours truly in this and i also think goodnight n go fits him so well. this song and tyun make me think of 13 going on 30 which is one of my favorite movies.
i’m thinking about childhood best friends that haven’t seen each other in a while. and one day you invite him over because he has been dying to see what your life in the city is like. you spend the entire afternoon catching up, laughing at inside jokes, and reminiscing about old times. and even though you haven’t seen each other in what feels like years, you still fall back into your old pattern and it feels like you never left. the time slips your mind and by the time either of you notice, it’s already dark outside and he missed the last train out of the city, so he has to spend the night.
of course he doesn’t want to be an imposition so he offers to sleep on the couch but you manage to convince him that “that is ridiculous, we used to share a bed as kids.”
Tumblr media
kai → main thing
the fact that this is the only established romantic relationship in this makes me giggle but i was originally going to do this song for yeonjun but i think it fits kai so much better. he would be such a doting partner i think. he’s so lovely and perfect and i definitely have very real romantic feelings for him but that’s beside the point.
you’ve had a horrible day and it literally feels like the entire world is crumbling around you. you text him to tell him that you just got home and you’re probably going to call it a night early. he can tell from your tone that something happened and in twenty minutes he’s at your door with takeout, your favorite ice cream, and a board game. you’re confused when you open the door and see him grinning at you with his hands full, but you’re eternally grateful that you have someone as thoughtful as you. he makes sure you eat as he runs you a bath and stays with you as you unload everything that happened to you that day.
i feel like kai is definitely the partner to play with your hair as you lay on the couch together watching a random show. he feels your breathing slow down and sees that you fell asleep. he only wakes you up so he can help you back to your bedroom to sleep properly.

For Hyunjin’s birthday I wanted to take what I did for his insert of “Noona/oppa kinks” I did a while ago because why not?!
content warnings: bf!hyunjin, hyunjin posing on the chair @ Versace is his outfit in this!!, birthday sex, switch!hyunjin (kinda?), switch!reader (kinda?), you call each others perverts, doggystyle, hair pulling (fem rec), oppa & noona kink (!!!!), overstimulation (fem rec), brief ass play (fem rec), pull out method (DO NOT DO THIS!! please practice safe sex!!), lovey-dovey stuff (my attempt at it anyways), lil surprise for reader @ the end, there may be typos 🤷🏻‍♀️ , i’m dyslexic so 🤓☝🏻… i feel like im forgetting stuff.. hmm
———————————————————
“Did you enjoy your birthday dinner, baby?” You asked from the right of him, his right hand on your upper thigh. Down the street from the restaurant you both ate at, Hyunjin steers the car in the direction of your shared home. A small smirk finds its way onto his face and he gives you a quiet mhmm. Your eyes scan over his side profile and butterflies awake in your stomach, the ones that remind you of all of the small touches and loving stares he made toward you from across the restaurant booth. You feel him squeeze your thigh.
He looked (and still does) absolutely unreal tonight. Of course anyone with eyes can say that about him every day... but tonight. Detailed in intricate designs, his shirt sits tucked into his faux leather styled jeans, adorned with a belt with a flashy belt buckle. His right wrist wears a beautiful black watch, and the left wrist is complimented with two colorful bracelets. Hands decorated in gorgeous rings. Two necklaces; one chunky and one a little thinner, hangs from his neck. He definitely took a few minutes to style his hair- most of it pushed back with little product, allowing strands to fall forward onto his forehead. Your left hand falls to his, still placed on your upper thigh.
Hyunjin knows you’re staring, he knows you’re checking him out. If the roles were reversed and you were driving, he would totally do the same. You look ravishing, your makeup compliments your features- eyelashes fanning out with mascara on, blush, contour and highlight in their respective places, and lips bare with some peppermint chapstick. Hair left completely undone, just some styled curls smoothed out with hair oil. Wrists and neck also adorned with simple jewelry, and to pull it all together, a simple pair of black heels on your feet.
Throughout the night, Hyunjin’s eyes naturally drifted from your face to all the curves your body has to offer. The square-neck, flowy black dress does nothing to hide the tops of your breasts. He remembers you clearing your throat to grab his attention. He knows he looks good, but he knows you know you look good too. Everyone knows those two things can create some tension.
Conversing with your boyfriend of three years still makes time fly by, 45 minutes of driving quickly come to an end when he pulls into the garage. Your hand reaches for the car door handle and Hyunjin doesn’t approve. “Seriously? Can’t even wait a second…” He scoffs, and you quickly look to him on your left and find him out of the car already, beginning to hurdle the hood of the car. You gasp then a chuckle leaves your lips. He opens the car door for you and you roll your eyes.
“Don’t give me that look, you haven’t touched a door in how long? And it’s still a habit? C’mon sweetheart.” He shakes his head in disappointment. You move around him and begin your walk towards the door that leads into the laundry room. Hyunjin is quick to follow your footsteps to open the next door, smacking your ass as you enter the threshold. “Sexy ass woman.” He whistles and eyes you up and down.
You wait for him in the connecting kitchen, the countertop digging into your ass due to your added height. “What are you thinking about?” He asks as he rounds the corner of the laundry room. He unbuckles his belt with one hand, ready to get comfortable and spend the rest of his birthday in bed (of course in a way more than lying down).
His head is tilted slightly as he looks you over; pink muscle poking out from between his lips a bit. When you don’t answer as fast as he’d like, he cages you in with his arms by gripping the countertops. He hums questioningly. “Noona,” he purrs. Your eyes shoot to his instantly. “Did you hear me? What are you thinking about?”
While maintaining eye contact, your right index finger finds the belt loop closest to his zipper and tug him towards your body. “Why don’t I show you what I was thinking about instead?” You whisper, and his surprised face pairs wonderfully with the hard-on that’s poking your hip. His lips part with a gasp. “You’re a fucking pervert- already hard like some loser!” You laugh at him, and just as he was gonna lean in and kiss you, you’ve gone and pissed him off.
His hand flies to the back of your head and tugs harshly at the hair. “Me? The pervert? Says the woman who was eye-fucking me from across the table not even an hour ago!” He’s spitting back, lips so close to yours. Your hand found its way to his waist, pulling him even closer just to feel his body on yours. He wins.
“Mhm.. oppa, please.” You look up at him through your lashes and when his hand moves from your hair to sit at your throat, lips collide. His other hand comes to the side of your face to aide him in tilting your head to deepen the kiss. He’s waited all night for this, impure thoughts flooded his mind the second he saw the dress you were wearing for dinner. For him, this was building with every look, every smile, every touch that was yours given to him. He feels like he’s on fire and while you fuel him… at the end of the day, only you can put him out.
Hands begin wandering on both accounts, Hyunjin’s begin to trace your breasts over the dress and yours are gripping his arms and back. A moan slips out of his mouth when you take things further and tug at his bottom lip with your teeth. “Mhm, fuck” He gasps. You push him away, trying to keep yourself together- almost like a competition; who can keep their sanity the longest?
“Where-where to? Couch? The bed?” He’s mumbling, his hands are starting to unbutton his pants when you grab his thick chain and lead him to the bedroom. What have I gotten myself into, he thinks.
You open the door yourself, Hyunjin too busy looking at you like a lost puppy. He kicked the door closed after you let him go, he’s almost caught off guard with your assertiveness- he’s standing there like a virgin, too scared to move.
“Noona.. wow.” He’s flustered, his pants are just barely hanging on his hips, belt and zipper undone. His hands are fishing out the shirt that remained tucked throughout the recent events. He takes in a deep breath to pull himself together and steps to you. His hands reach for the bottom of your dress, tugs it over your head and your secrets are out. No underwear, no bra, nothing but bare inspiration for his hungry eyes and artsy mind. Your nipples pebble due to the air in the room and your cunt is getting wetter by the second under his gaze.
He scoffs. “Again, talk about a fucking pervert.”
Your hands are quick to shut him up; it’s your turn to tug and pull at the fabrics covering his build. Pants thrown to the side and shirt on the corner of the bed somewhere behind you. His boxers are being pulled at by you, and he’s panting. You stand up after helping him out of his underwear, a quick kiss is exchanged.
“How do you want me, loverboy?” You ask, fingertips rest on his stomach. His bottom lip is stuck between his teeth, and when he releases it, you notice how red it’s gotten. He’s so ready for you, cocks pulsing between his legs
“Doggy, noona. Please. Bend that ass over for me.” He whispers. His hands find your waist to turn you away from him and walk you to the foot of the bed. His right hand pushes at your upper back while his left hand finds itself at your hip and pulls them back. Your knees sit on the edge of the bed, pussy and asshole on display for him. In almost every moment you find yourself like this for him, you’re embarrassed- you’re so hot and bothered that you couldn’t care less this time.
“Oppa,” You start. You’re looking back at him over your shoulder. You snake a hand to your clit not just to tease yourself, but also him. He watches your fingers circle your bud from between your thighs, and he cant help but just watch as you smooth your slick over yourself.
“Fuuuck me, baby.” He’s stroking his cock, one, twice three times. “You drive me insane.” A slap lands on your ass.
“Oppa, come on-“
“Shhh. I’ll take care of you, noona.” His cock head is poking at your entrance, there’s so much wetness, and he feels hot all over. A moan is ripped from your throat when he begins to push in, your gummy walls giving in so easily. “Holy shit, noona! You’re so tight.. all for me, huh?” He says with a teasing tilt to his voice. You nod so eagerly.
The hands on your waist grip a bit harder, and his thrusts speed up. The squelching from your pussy is almost as loud as the moans and gasps coming from you both. Hyunjin slows the pace enough to run a hand from your waist up your back to between your shoulder blades and push down, forcing your elbows to buckle under you.
“Noona, arch your back more, theeeeere ya go… what a good noona.” When your chest makes home on the bedsheets, his front meets your back and his hand finds its way back to your waist. He begins a trail of soft kisses from your right shoulder the middle of your back. He raises his right leg to place his foot next to your knee on the bed, allowing him to reach further into you.
“Oh my god! Oppa, you’re so deep!” You gasp, your legs begin to shake from the pleasure. This new angle allows his tip to ram directly into that gummy spot, and he knows it too. It’s hard to miss when you’re gasping and moaning in quick increments, body shaking like it’s a newfound pleasure, and your hands have found themselves buried in the sheets.
“Right there? It’s there, huh?” Hyunjin’s becoming cocky, your body giving in to the pleasure he’s giving you. And he’s aware that soon, very soon, you’ll cum. “Give me your cum noona, play with your pretty little clit- oh shit, you’re squeezing me so hard!” He borderline growls at you.
Your fingers are making quick circles to work your climax out, eyes rolling to the back of your head. You’re barely conscious, too overwhelmed by the white building heat… and his spit-covered thumb coming to rest over your puckered asshole, massaging the muscle does you in.
“O-Oppa! Cum-I’m-Fuck!” Your body pulses, and Hyunjin is holding you like you may actually fall apart. He just about let himself go too, the way you look as you cum is so beautiful, surely another inspiration for his sketchbook.
“Damn noona.. that was a big one, huh?” He quips. Your hips are being held up my his strong arms, but his thrusts are still relentless. You’re moaning and twitching from overstimulation, but he knows you enjoy it more than you let on.
“Give me your cum, oppa! Please!” You moan into the sheets.
The closer he gets to cumming, the harsher his inhales get. His hands become twitchy; one second he’s got a handful of tit, the next he’s digging his fingering into your ass- nothing seems to keep them at bay while his body experiences one of the highest forms of pleasure. “Oh fuck- oh fuck!”
He pulls out and the first rope lands on the back of your thigh, the rest stretching out over your back. He strokes himself to ride out his high, afterwards looking over you. You’ve got a soft smile on your face, a nice flush to your skin, and hair in a tussled mess. You look beautiful, he thinks, no amount of artwork can equal the amount of the beauty of you.
“Feeling good, baby?” Hyunjin takes a step back. After you hum back to him, he makes his way to the linen closet in the master bathroom. He’s quick to grab two towels, one dry and one damp. When he walks back into the room, you’re already standing up.
“Here.” He hands you the damp one first, allowing you to wipe what you can reach while he grabs undergarments. He tosses your underwear onto the bed before quickly putting his boxers on. “You did so good baby.” He whispers as he takes the damp cloth from you, and cleaning off what was left. He tosses that one into the bathroom and reaches for the dry towel to wipe and dry you off further.
“I hope you had a great birthday, Jinnie.” You smile. He can hear the smile in your voice. You put on your panties and turn to him. “I love you so much.” You grab his face and plant a kiss on his lips. He can’t help but chuckle.
“I love you even more, sweetheart!” He tackles you into the bed where you cuddle and watch tv for the rest of the night. Though, not long after resuming a show you began the other day, he can hear and feel you lightly snoring from your place on his chest. He turns the tv off and rests on his phone for the meantime, until he hears you mumbling in your sleep. Only then, when it’s just him and his thoughts left to admire you at your most vulnerable state, does he remember something.
A sincere, gummy smile appears at the thought of a beautiful velvet box sitting at the back of the linen closet.
AHHHH tell me why hyunjin has been plaguing my mind lately!!! he’s such a loverboy. I hope you enjoyed this one!!! <3
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HYUNE! 💕
