New data has revealed the staggering pressure LGBTQ+ Americans are under following the wave of homophobic and transphobic legislation that has swept US states.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), an LGBTQ+ nonprofit organization, revealed in data analysis published on Wednesday (16 August) that almost 80% of LGBTQ+ adults feel less safe amid the rise in right-wing laws across the US.
For trans and non-binary adults, this number is significantly higher, with more than nine in 10 (94%) feeling unsafe in the US.
Results were pulled from a Community Marketing Insight (CMI) survey as part of its 17th annual LGBTQ+ Community Survey, which HRC co-sponsored.
Questions were based upon the 550 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in more than 40 states across the US since the beginning of 2023, more than 80 of which have been signed into law.
21 states in the country have enacted laws banning gender-affirming care for trans youth under the false pretence that under-18s are being put through surgeries, despite no medical organisation anywhere allowing children to undergo them.
43% of LGBTQ+ adults report that gender-affirming care bans have impacted the physical and/or mental well-being of themselves, their friends and family.
Meanwhile, over 80% of trans and non-binary adults report the same.
“Just two months after HRC declared a national state of emergency for LGBTQ+ people, this survey reveals that the current climate of hostility and fear is only growing worse,” HRC president Kelley Robinson said in a statement.
“Gender-affirming care bans are taking a detrimental toll on the physical and mental health of LGBTQ+ Americans,” she continued.
“Extremist, anti-LGBTQ+ politicians and their allies are waging a dangerous and cruel misinformation campaign that seeks to stigmatise not only gender-affirming care but transgender and non-binary people as well.”
“The rhetoric and misinformation is having a virtually universal impact on LGBTQ+ people, and further plunging us into a state of emergency that’s threatening the health and safety of every LGBTQ+ person.”
FEAR OF SAFETY SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE IN FLORIDA, DATA REVEALS
The report also revealed that LGBTQ+ people in Florida are more likely to feel anxious about their own safety following Governor Ron DeSantis’ anti-LGBTQ+ attacks.
Nearly 80% of trans and non-binary adults living in Florida have said that gender-affirming care bans impact their physical or mental health, while almost 90% have either taken steps or want to take steps to move to a new state or country.
Over 93% have said gender-affirming care bans make them feel less safe in the state.
Equality Florida executive director, Nadine Smith, said in a statement: “The results of this survey make clear that we Floridians will be repairing that damage of anti-LGBTQ+ laws passed in this state for years to come.”
“Conferences are cancelling, talent is fleeing, and the best and brightest are abandoning our universities, while LGBTQ+ people are feeling more unsafe than ever before.”
“These attacks have to stop.”
In April, the Human Rights Campaign issued a warning against LGBTQ+ travelers visiting Florida, telling potential tourists to “reconsider” any plans they may have had.

i'm having so much fun with the new tmagp characters (and i will miss them dearly until april 11th) (side note: patreon members get access on my sisters birthday which is pretty cool) and i don't want to compare them to the tma characters because they are unique and different in MANY ways, i just also notice some parallels
gwen is very similar to jon, she has had a somewhat skeptic attitude but has now clearly been exposed to the horrors (bonzo..) and she's also climbing the corporate ladder if you will. she runs the place, she's grumpy, and i think she's closer to becoming an avatar than any of the others (even sam) (see my other post about it if youd like) (idk how to link it on mobile sorry)
alice and tim are kinda obvious, both comedic with younger brothers and are very susceptible to romantic feelings (sasha/sam). there was a lot more going on with tim and we haven't seen much of that side of alice, so i'm really excited to learn about her backstory and/or traumas. less excited about what that might to do her but yk.. yk..
sam/sasha is the most interesting one to me. sam is curious like sasha was. sasha wanted to know which made her archivist potential in everyone's eyes. sam also wants to know, he'd make a great archivist. except he's not cautious, he's like sasha if she had never worked in the artifact storage. i think sasha's strength was what she had already experienced and what she knew, but she didn't know enough and ultimately that got her killed. sam is going to keep learning until he does know enough, but he doesn't have that prior knowledge to stop him from going too far. very interesting characters from both of them
celia and martin i guess? celia's different since she's not exactly from tmagp
lena and elias because creepy murder boss
and finally colin and gertrude which is kind of insane of me to say but hear me out. gertrude cut out the eyes of book covers and magazines and everything in her home. she was incredibly paranoid she just was also a boss ass bitch about it. i think younger gertrude must've been a lot like colin, but she figured it out quicker and realized what she needed to do to survive. she asked the right questions and took the right precautions. she had the archive full of knowledge. colin doesn't have the archive, he's messing with the wrong thing and he's taking every precaution and hurting himself and those around him (sam's phone specifically comes to mind). i think gertrude was like colin but she had the right resources to get through it
idk all of these are very interesting and it makes me worry a bit, but ofc every character is unique and has aspects to them that change their stories. they're probably still gonna die though, we know jonny sims loves killing characters ☹️

I’m wondering if references to TMA in TMAGP Red Herrings or a distraction?
Sorry its a bit of a long ramble (hence under the cut)
We know that there are going to be multiple series of Protocol, and that it will follow a similar narrative format to Archives, with a long overarching mystery plot.
We also know that Archives is not required listening for Protocol, and thus you don’t need to have listened or know much about Archives to enjoy or understand protocol. Therefore, for me at least, if that’s the case, then if the crux of the narrative is serving as a direct follow on from Archives, it feels almost too early in both the long run and the series to have literally gone to the ruins of the Institute, and meeting characters from Archives directly.
Don’t get me wrong, Archives is definitely going to play a large role in the world, at the very least we know this via Chester and Norris, But I’m wondering if they’re getting the more direct references out the way earlier on, so that Protocol can then develop the itself almost a bit more free of the Shadow of Archives?
Given how popular archives was they knew people are going to be drawing All Of The Links, so maybe this was a way of almost drawing the line in the sand to keep them separate early on? And given we know Alex and Jonny enjoy a bit of Mild Emotional Torment I wouldn’t be surprised if they made sure to build up the hype regarding Archives based elements in protocol just before the Hiatus cause they know it’d drive us a lil insane.
Also listening back to particularly series One and Two of Archives, there are a frankly surprising amount of references to the Powers and foreshadowing of later events, all of which fly under the radar unless you know what happens later on, and I’m wondering if the references to Gerry, Gurtrude and going to the Institute etc might also be being used as a sort of smokescreen? Knowing that Archives fans are going to be super hyped about the return of fan favourite characters maybe being used as a wee bit of a distraction as the groundwork for later events/world building is being laid? Then whilst we are all focused on [ERROR] having crawled out of the ruins of the institutes we don’t notice as Needles and Mr Bonzo come up behind us and Do a Bit Of A Murder (as a treat on their date night).

‼️ spoilers for tmagp 12 ‼️
okok gruesome episode, i have some theories
I think that the OIAR using an extremely outdated system to record and classify strange occurrences is similar to the reason Jon and Gertrude used tape recorders. maybe the horrors in the tmagp universe cause interferences in modern technology
alternatively: Lena knows about Jon, Martin, and Jonah being present as entities in the OIAR systems. maybe they provide some sort of protection over it? what with Jon and Jonah being avatars of the Eye, maybe they're just fulfilling exactly what they did in tma.
also, if the case loads that the protocol gang get include instances of the OIAR using its.. “externals”, then how many of the statements we've seen were caused directly by them? we know Mr Bonzo is an external. and it's seeming more and more likely that Ink5oul and Needles are externals too

Just finished listening to Tmagp8 and here are some of my initial thoughts when first listening to it because OH MY GOD
(Spoiler warning)
This is a bit of a stretch, but you know the Assessment feedback of all of it (Structure & Organization – 50%; Knowledge – 40%; Understanding – 30%; Analysis – 10; Source Material Usage – 10%)? What if that's just Alex saying how much we actually know about the meta plot??
is this the new Robert Smirke??
"I propose that because these spaces are devoid of persistent humanity and consistent time perception, they have thus become dislocated from humanity’s shared mindscape, and there are unique health risks to people who are over-exposed to this phenomenon." And when it says this, is it invertedly commenting on OIAR? Like how they just constantly go through statements without actually stopping and trying to make sense of them and because they all work the nightshift, they are thrown out of the loop of normal daytime cycles in a sense? maybe it's commenting on what happened to Colin? Or why Teddy left? Tbh I think there are many factors of this episode that could sort of reflect how things are at the OIAR (like the tower that Terrance can't enter but still knows of its existence is a metaphor to the Magnus Institute that Sam is curious about but doesn't explore it at first because Alice discouraged him not to. But then like Terrance does actually enter the tower that is forbidden and ominous which is similar to how Sam still is looking into the Magnus Institute, as revealed at the end of the episode)
Also the repetition of "It’s my pleasure to welcome you! You are here! Stay awhile!” could sort of link to now that Sam has continued to explore about the Magnus Institute, he won't be able to stop and abandon his investigation into it. Also links to the whole thing of how obviously in TMA there's the whole thing of not being able to leave and how when RedCanary entered the Mag Institute, they didn't leave. And I feel like this is particularly reinforced by this quote from the chef, "The chef spoke again, and though his tone hadn’t changed, it was clear this was no longer a request: “Stay awhile.”"
Also if we are going with the theory of Jon and Martin communicating with the OIAR through statements, then if Martin chose this one, is he trying to say something about their current situation? Like when it says, "They weren’t even windows. They were gaping square holes and beyond them was nothing at all. Any one of the diners could reach out if they had a mind to and plunge their hand outwards into the dark, foreboding and utterly featureless void. There was nothing. Nothing above, nothing below, nothing at all. Nothing, save the tower and the restaurant." Maybe Windows 95 has a darker side to it that we don't know about yet? Or could just be Martin trying to be poetic and lament about his and Jon's current situation? Could link to how alone they both are, and suspended in a void after the change in dimensions? Like the void referred to could mirror what the computer is like when it's turned off? I know it's a bit of a stetch but yeah idk
Also maybe this part (And so when faced with the prospect of being eaten alive, or leaping out one of those windows into pure oblivion… it was no choice at all. I jumped.") is just Martin trying to explain how he went with Jon when destroying the Panopticon in TMA, but instead of being eaten alive, it's having to live with Jon becoming the bigger part of the Eye?
Then there's the whole thing of Alice saying how she doesn't like all the changes that are happening and she thinks that something is going on in the OIAR which I find interesting considering how she was so prominently detached she was before
ALSO COLIN!! Mental health leave? Seriously Lena? Ik he smashed Sam's phone, which probably isn't a good display of stable mental health, but it feels like she is trying to stop him from figuring out what is happening in true a Bouchard style. Brutal pipe murder when you don't want someone telling your archivist about what the hell is going on and 'interrupting your plans'? No, for Lena it's not-so-kindly removing someone when they start to realise you're a secret evil mastermind who's a failed-murderer
ALSO GERRY IS BACK!! FUCK YEAH! AND GEE GEE?! IM DYING- but it's a bit suspicious how he conveniently doesn't remember what happened to him (idk if this has been explained in the ARG, if it has, then just ignore me) and old books?? give this guy a break pleaseee
Also I feel like Camden Epiphany is going to be relevant later on since Gerry said, "Don’t forget Camden Epiphany!". I searched up supernatural theories about Camden, London and this was the first result:
Tumblr media
it could be related or not, I haven't looked into it properly yet
also mention of the hunt?? what do you mean by that Gertrude-
and i'm 95% Celia is the same one from tma universe considering she is looking into "Weird physics stuff: time travel, other dimensions, teleportation, all that good stuff." but time travel?? Celia what do you know?...
ALSO GEORGIE IS BACK YESSSS but is this the same Georgie as tma Georgie? And if Celia AND Georgie from tma are both in this dimension, does that mean that Melanie is too?

Knowing that 90% of the creatives behind Gotham Knights are queer and wanted to create a Gotham universe that celebrated queerness, but got so much hate from "real DC fans" for being too 'woke' pisses me off. Also, the cw and it's new evangelical owners don't deserve GK. A small part of my brain is hoping some network realize the potential this show has and picks it up even though James said it's a done deal. Imagine what we would've gotten in season 2.
