Several Democratic candidates in races against opponents backed by former President Donald Trump have received endorsements from Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.
Prominent state-level Republicans in Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Pennsylvania have so far publicly expressed support for Democrats facing Trump-backed GOP nominees.
It remains to be seen if this trend will continue and what effect it may have on the outcome of the races. The upcoming midterms for the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, as well as elections for state offices, may prove a test of former President Trump's endorsement.
Here is a list of races where Republicans have backed the Democratic candidate.
ARIZONA
Arizona Republican state Representative Joel John revealed on Thursday that he was endorsing the Democratic candidate for Secretary of State, Adrian Fontes, over the GOP candidate, state Representative Mark Finchem.
Finchem has been endorsed by Trump and echoed the former president's unfounded claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
In a statement from John, shared to Twitter by the Fontes campaign, he said he was "proud" to support Fontes and cited Finchem's desire to "get rid of voting by mail" and that he "has sought to overturn the 2020 election."
KANSAS
Former Republican Governor Mike Hayden endorsed Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, a Democrat, for reelection this week over her Trump-endorsed opponent, state Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
Hayden was joined by another Republican and former Governor, Bill Graves, as well as former Democratic governors Kathleen Sebelius and John Carlin in calling for support for Kelly.
"In 50 years in Kansas politics I've seen the good times and the bad," Hayden said. "The affairs of Kansas are in good shape right now, and I credit the bipartisan approach of Governor Kelly."
OKLAHOMA
Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Kendra Horn has received endorsements from three state-level Republicans as she faces Trump-endorsed U.S. Representative Markwayne Mullin.
Kris Steele, a Republican and former speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, publicly endorsed Horn over Mullin in a video released on Wednesday.
Steele said that Horn was "the kind of leader that we need to move our state forward in a positive, productive and healthy direction."
Horn has previously been endorsed by two other Republicans - former GOP state party chairman, Stephen Jones, and Steven Agee, former chairman of the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
PENNSYLVANIA
A number of Republicans have endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania over Trump-endorsed Republican state Senator Doug Mastriano.
At least 16 Republicans publicly backed Shapiro in August following a Reuters report that Mastriano had posed for a photo wearing a Confederate uniform in 2014.
The Republicans supporting Shapiro include former Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, who served under former President George W. Bush, and former state Representative Mario Civera.
In a statement, Chertoff described Shapiro as "a staunch defender of our democratic institutions and will lead Pennsylvania with honor and integrity. I am proud to support his campaign for Governor."
Former Pennsylvania House Speaker Denny O'Brien, former state Representative Dave Steil and current Lawrence County Commissioner Morgan Boyd have also backed Shapiro.
TEXAS
Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is seeking reelection this year, alongside Republican Governor Greg Abbott who's running for a third term. Patrick's website features his endorsement from former President Trump.
Former Republican Lt. Governor Bill Ratliff has endorsed Patrick's Democratic opponent, Mike Collier. Ratliff is the most prominent Texas Republican to back Collier so far, but he's not alone.
Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley and state Senator Kel Seliger have also thrown their support behind the Democrat.
"As a former elected Republican, I'm putting partisanship aside and joining the growing number of Republicans voting for the man we think is best for Texas, and that's Mike Collier," Ratliff said in a statement released by the Collier campaign.
Newsweek has asked the campaigns concerned for comment.
This article will be updated to include any more relevant endorsements.

I feel like Bracken/Brackendra had the potential to be like. Not Weird if Brandon Mull actually wrote it that way. Like if he had actually made it so that Bracken was actually mentally 17 and not a full grown unicorn (see: Bracken having his third horn and reaching "maturity") and made Kendra, well, not 14 when they met. Brandon Mull seems to go back and forth on whether or not its weird for them to have feelings for eachother (it is, at least the way Brandon wrote it). In ROTDS when Ronodin proposes to Kendra, she's like "omg ew,,ur so much older than me" and then. Calls Bracken her boyfriend. You know. The guy thats the same age as Ronodin.
When Bracken first appeared in the prison with Seth, I actually really liked him. He was witty and actually had some personality. But then when Kendra met him, all his personality became reduced to "ok guys let’s give Kendra a straight love interest because we killed the last one in the previous book". I just feel like the two Brackens we met are so different in terms of how they interact with the story. Sorry for ranting but as a previous Brackendra girlie its just interesting to think about

Something something Bracken's horns always falling into Kendra's hands. Holding a piece of you you thought you lost forever, letting her have it, because now she's a part of you to.
Maybe a story about destiny. Here's a piece of me you found before you even knew me. We helped each other before we met each other. Thank you thank you thank you for returning the favor, I want to help you further.
Maybe its a story about healing. Bracken the hornless unicorn, trapped inside himself. Kendra brings him out of prison, opens him up, helps him retrieve his second horn. Does it again, helps him reclaim his third.
Maybe its a story of realization. She represent all he was, and showed him he didn't need it anymore. Let me cut you some pieces of me, so that my connection to you can last forever.
The horns are so much to me.

I posted a new fic that explores Marla and Scott Sorenson’s experience from losing their daughter, being kidnapped, forcibly educated about magic, and finally reuniting with their family.
It will be three chapters and end up about 10k words.
It’s been really fun to write!
Here is an excerpt:
Silence filled the house. The TV sat dormant, pots and pans did not clang, and there was no bickering over the remote. Just Marla alone on the couch.
The peace and quiet she had always prayed for.
It was 6 o’clock on a Sunday. Normally, dinner would be takeout from the steakhouse downtown as Marla had always maintained that a day of rest meant no cooking. She would force the kids to eat dinner at the table, and Kendra would stress out about an assignment she had due the next day while Seth flung peas at her. Inevitably, someone would yell and the other would storm out of the room.
Marla would be pulling her hair out trying to get them to settle down and wishing that, for just once, their house could be peaceful and quiet and not full of bickering and loud noises.
She had gotten her wish.
Her house was silent.
It only took burying her baby girl under six feet of muddy dirt, and shipping her son off to her in-laws.
Great. Amazing. This was exactly what she had prayed for.
No tears fell. She just stared at the floor.
Scott was somewhere. She didn’t know. Probably grief counseling or the grocery store. Either way, Marla couldn’t seem to care enough to remember.
She was a passive participant in life at the moment. It was better that way. If she had to go back in the stream of things—back to “normal”—she’d have to have quiet Sunday dinners.
No, it was better when nothing happened at all.
The train horn interrupted her line of thoughts. It was a faithful thing that she disliked. It came every night at eleven pm. She could never get to sleep when she wanted because the blasted horn would wake her up.
While in some crevice of Marla’s brain, she registered the oddness of Scott staying out past eleven, she couldn’t stop the onslaught of grief that prevented her from thinking about anything but her baby girl. It wouldn’t be right to go about her day without Kendra on her mind. To Marla, that was the final goodbye she dreaded. The point when she forgot about her baby girl.
Ironically, the funeral had offered the briefest reprieve in her thoughts as she had to sort money around and calculate coffin costs—monotonous, mindless things.
But, the funeral had already occurred a few days ago. Well, at least Marla thought it was a few days ago. Not much recently had been cataloged in her memory.
All she knew was that there was a new headstone in the cemetery and that her baby girl was under it.
Parents weren’t supposed to grieve for their kids. That wasn’t the deal Marla had made with God when she conceived.
Motherhood was supposed to be the most amazing thing in the world. God-given. And it was, at times. But, this was never supposed to be part of it.
Why did God take her baby girl?
The priest had tried to explain to her. Euphemisms ran into mantras ran into the most meaningless crap she’d ever heard.
Their family went to church every Sunday. They praised God. They said grace before every meal. Marla had sat on her knees every night like a good girl and prayed for her family.
Her baby girl taken from her. Who did it?
The private detective didn’t know. She didn’t know. Her son didn’t know. The coroner had sent a report with confusing details, but then the next day, sent a clean bill of death.
A stroke.
Marla guessed that was it. A stroke of luck. Something no one could predict but God. Bad karma.
Scott tried to pull her to the grief-counseling meetings. It didn’t work. She didn’t want to feel these feelings and live with them. She wanted them gone!
She wanted Kendra back. She wanted her children.
Pain constricted her chest and she couldn’t breathe anymore.
It was like this now. She got sudden pains and constrictions she had used to associate with sadness and anger, but she no longer felt those feelings.
It was all nothing.
There was a knock at the door.
How late was it? Eleven? Well, who cared. Time didn’t matter anymore.
Obligated, Marla approached and peeked through the peep-hole.
There was a skinny looking man holding tupperware. He looked around and then knocked again.
Oh, well. As Marla sighed and opened the door, she was faintly aware of the consternation she would have had a week ago if she had answered the door with unwashed hair, pajamas, and days-old makeup. She couldn’t imagine ever thinking those thoughts again.
“What do you want?”
The man smiled understandingly at her and held out his container. “I’m sorry for your loss. Kendra was an amazing student. I brought a home-cooked meal for you and your husband.”
Marla squinted at him. He must’ve been one of Kendra’s teachers, but she didn’t recognize him. But, that didn’t mean much. Kendra had had six teachers. This could be the one Marla could never remember the name of.
She took the Tupperware and nodded her head in thanks. It was the most she could do, because she didn’t want to talk to him at all.
“Have a good night. If you need anything, I can have the school organize a drive.”
“That’s alright. Take care.”
Marla closed the door and opened the container. It smelled good.
A week ago, if Marla had suddenly received an influx of meals from the community, she would have kept meticulous count and ate them in the order she had received them as to avoid spoilage.
But, Marla was different now so she slid down the door frame to a seated position and used her hands to eat the chicken wings.
As she tore off the skin with her teeth, she tried to place the flavor. She liked Buffalo, but this wasn’t that. It wasn’t bad, it was just different.
Before she began eating, she hadn’t realized how hungry she was. It made sense, though. She hadn’t eaten since she had woken up, and that had been a long time ago.
Her original intention to share with her husband faded as she finished the last of the wings. Her fingers were sticky and she simply licked the sauce off, another thing she would never have done a week ago.
As she set the container aside, she resumed her meaningless staring. Exhaustion began to tug at her eyelids, and she had no will to deny it. She slumped against the wall and closed her eyes.
There was a knock at the door and then another, but by then, she was too tired to move. And by the time the door opened and the skinny man stepped in, Marla was gone to the world.

Are there any non-human-appearing vtubers you'd recommend? By non-human-appearing i mean vtubers that don't just have a human face with cat ears or a tail or horns. I mean they're just like. Clearly a creature. A straight-up cat or dog or eldritch abomination. I can't seem to find any on my own.
Kendra Kendrillion seems pretty furryish, but it's a good balance that makes her look cute to non furries rather than weird.
There's also PB&JEBBY, who's a sentient peanut butter & jelly sandwich
As a bonus because I'm not sure if he counts, Noctapus. He's the lil' octopus dude on top of Kana, the anime girl. Kana's more of an accessory because she doesn't speak.

a sapphic lit primer 🌸
also known as, an opportunity to insist you read my favourites
if you’ve ever found yourself wanting to read more sapphic books, but not quite sure where to start, let this be the post for you! if you’re looking for even more sapphic books, i hope you find something in here too.
there are a few books on here i’ve not read, that i wanted to include to raise awareness of them, more than anything. those are marked by *. as such, you will probably also see a fair few more well known books and authors missed off (but i promise i know about them!).
this is not meant to be at all exhaustive! it’s a collection of sapphic books that i’ve read and would rec, meaning there are still tons more out there. & you can find some of those more at @sapphicreadsdb, readsrainbow (which i co-run with @tenderpotter), sapphiclitbot on twitter & my list of every sapphic book i’ve read.
as ever, this was meant to be a relatively short post. haha.
(i promise i did put links on this post, but for some reason those aren’t working on the blog page. dashboard version seems fine, i think.)

my favorite tiny moment was technically in dragon watch but I still love it
It's when Kendra goes to speak to the great fairy living at wyrmroost to get wings for the animals and Kendra's like
'well I like this guy..'
'really who?'
' oh his name is Bracken'
'ugh boring everyone likes bracken 🙄'
'yeah well I'm pretty sure he likes me too'
'and whys that?'
'Cause he gave me this' *whips out brackens first horn*
(paraphrased because of all the things I possess a perfect memory is not one)
Skjsjssolssk sorry it took me literal months to get back to this
Anyway, this is a really fun moment! I like the implication that Bracken is the Every Teenage Girl's Celebrity Crush of the magical world. I wonder how many people have approached him in the past... were they perhaps previous fairykind?? 👀
Thanks so much for the response!

wanna ramble about yanderes i don’t see very often. i’ll answer more asks soon, i just wanna put this out there bc these thoughts have been bouncing around my head for a while.
yandere rottmnt cassandra.
god she’s just so intense! she’s not subtle at all, even the most oblivious (y/n) will know that she’s obsessed. she doesn’t bother trying to hide this behavior and is actually quite proud of it. just look at how much of a dedicated lover she is!
oh, and she refuses to take no for an answer.
(y/n) doesn’t want to go on a date? she picks them up and literally drags them away!
they don’t want to be her significant other? she snatched them away right then and there, no hesitation, no questions asked!
she’s not afraid to pummeling someone in front of (y/n) either. like i said, cassandra is proud of her obsessed behavior and constantly partakes in violence to show off for them.
she doesn’t notice the horrified expression they make when she throws the guy who accidentally bumped into them into a brick wall. she doesn’t hear the screams of (y/n) yelling at her to stop prying open a car door to beat up the person who honked their horn at them.
if (y/n) ever tries to tell her to chill out, cassandra will brush it off as them being too bashful.
and if (y/n) tries to break up with her, she’ll just handcuff/chain them to her. look, now they’ll never leave each other’s side! isn’t that so romantic?
yandere rottmnt kendra.
alright i know she’s only in like two or three episodes but i just can’t get this thought out of my head.
her significant other would be given the infamous purple dragon jacket even if they aren’t actually a part of the purple dragons. not just because of the tracker within, but also so that everyone else knows that they’re taken and they should back off.
she has a tracker on (y/n) 24/7, doesn’t let them have friends other than the purple dragons and even then she threatens those two regularly in case they start getting ideas, and if (y/n) ever tries to break up with her she’ll kidnap them and keep them heavily guarded with some of the most advanced tech they’ve ever seen.
but when it comes to going out alone, kendra can be surprisingly lenient, and that’s because of her tech. she’s confident that even if (y/n) tries to run away, they won’t get very far, since she always has some sort of robot following them, ready to jump in if they ever run into trouble.
this is where the two tech geniuses of the show differ. even if donnie has trackers on (y/n), he’s still hesitant to let them wander alone because of his paranoia of them finding someone they like more than him, whereas kendra doesn’t really care. even if (y/n) starts liking someone else, that person will avoid them like the plague the moment they see that purple dragon jacket.
was gonna add a small part where the other purple dragons are platonic yans for kendra’s s/o, but i’m sleepy so gnight✌️

New Furisó fan fiction is here! Trans Halsin and Trans Karlach has there babies. Wholesomeness happened. I did write this while being at work so it might not be good lol. @autistichalsin
Halsin had given birth to a beautiful set of twins on the winter solstice. The identical twin girls were everything to Karlach and Halsin. Their pinkish skin tone matched with the color of their eyes. The only thing that made them different was that one of them had horns to match their mother. Kendra and Kacee were the names chosen and the new parents couldn't be happier with their lives. Halsin stays in the tree house while Karlach is out hunting, the both of them deciding to retire from adventuring with the twins are still infants. Halsin loves his daughters with all his heart, so much so that Karlach knows they are already spoiled after only living for two months.
"Darling, you can't keep spoiling them.' Karlach reminds her husband.
'I know but I can't help it. Look at how adorable they are.' Halsin responds looking down at the twins in the crib he whittled himself.
'They are adorable. Just like their daddy.' Karlach smirks before wrapping her arms around Halsin's waist.
'They get it from their mother.' Halsin counters, turning to kiss Karlach.

14 Embraces from behind where the other person nuzzles their nose into your neck
I had fun with this prompt! Thank you for the excuse to write Orion/Aymeric fluff. Kinda want to make this a longer piece, but for now it's just the two of them mostly talking the night before the battle of Ala Mhigo.
...
Orion slid his fingers under the rims of his round spectacles to rub the haze from his fatigued eyes. Leaning against a table covered in various potions, poultices, and balms, he tried to bring the labels into focus. Did that one say Hi-Ether or Hi-Elixir? He picked up the flask, bringing it almost to the tip of his nose. Ether. Hi-Ether. He set it back down and made a note on the checklist laid on the table before him.
He was just about to reach for another flask when two long arms clad in black leather and ornate gold bracers wrapped around his narrow waist. He felt soft lips press against the back of his neck, right on the seam between obsidian scales and red skin. Tense shoulders immediately sagged and Orion leaned back into Aymeric's embrace. Aymeric hummed, squeezing Orion tighter and burying his nose in short umber hair, thick as velvet.
"How did I know I would find you here?" Aymeric muttered against the back of Orion's head.
Orion closed his eyes, blocking out as much of the bustling camp as he could, and focused on the grounding touch of the lover he had missed for months. Azema, allow me this indulgence, he thought to himself.
The two pressed against one another in silence, letting everything else slip into a muffled hum of camp life.
"Kendra?" Orion finally asked, wondering after their other mutual lover.
Orion could feel Aymeric's smile pressed to the skin just behind his horn when he answered, "Last I saw, she was fast asleep in a pile of miqo'te under one of the M Tribe's big communal sleeping pavilions. I think she was droo9ling on M'naago's shoulder.
Orion chuffed a soft laugh. At least one of them was getting proper rest before the trials of the morrow.
"So..." Aymeric pressed his hands against Orion's hips to turn him away from the inventory table and towards himself. "I thought it only appropriate to let her continue to rest and come after you myself."
Orion looked down at Aymeric's upturned face. Long, black lashes drooped over bright blue eyes. His flawless porcelain skin glowed in the indirect light of camp torches. Unable to resist, Orion reached up to caress the soft skin of Aymeric's cheek with his thumb. Aymeric leaned into the touch and Orion cupped the side of his face with a broad palm.
"So, can I tempt you back to my very plush Commander's tent, or will I have to send an entire platoon after you to force you to rest?"
"Hmmm..." Orion mused. He fiddled with a silky black curl that had fallen over Aymeric's brow. "These supplies really do need to be cataloged and distributed to the field teams before we deploy in the morning, and- "
"And I'm sure there is a very eager young non-combatant somewhere in this camp who can get that taken care of while those who will be on the front line, yourself included, get a full night's rest." With a gentle but firm grip, Aymeric began to pull Orion away from the lines of bottles.
"But Aymeric, I can't-" Orion stammered.
"You can't effectively fulfill your role tomorrow if you don't get a full night's rest tonight. You know one of the greatest healers of our generation once told me, 'You can't keep your people alive if you're dead on the floor. A healer's first job is to stay alive and their second job is to take care of their own body."
Orion groaned and leaned back into Aymeric's space to steal a kiss. "How dare you use my own words against me? You absolute politician."
"I would have less cause to do so if you took your own advice more often," Aymeric retorted, smirking triumphantly.
"Fine," Orion groused, kissing Aymeric again. "Fine." One more kiss. "Sargent!"
Orion waved over a young hyur in a Storm medic's uniform. Turning to face him, Orion handed over his notepad and pen. "I am under orders from the Lord Speaker to relinquish my current task and get some rest before we deploy. Would you see to it that someone finishes this inventory check and distributes these supplies to all the field medic team's deploying tomorrow?"
"Yes sir," the young man saluted enthusiastically, a little star struck by the seven foot Warrior of Light and the Lord Speaker of the Ishgardian Senate. "Rest well, sir."
"Thank you, Sargent. Dismissed," Orion turned to leave, catching Aymeric's arm in his own. "Is it just me, or do they look younger every year?" he muttered under his breath.
"Just wait until you visit Ishgard next and meet Lucia's latest class of cadets. I swear half of them haven't hit their final growth spurt. They all look like newborn chocobo chicks, all knobby knees and oversized feet."
Aymeric led Orion through the dusty lanes of the Alliance camp. With the sun having set less than an hour ago, things were still lively. Soldiers gathered at bonfires, eating rations. Nightt patrols rolled out towards the edges of camp. An entire legion of support staff swarmed the supply trains, ensuring all was made ready for the morning. The soft chanting of hymns rose from the Ishgardian tents. Orion breathed deep of the quickly cooling night air.
"Thank you, Aymeric, for looking out for me," Orion said after a moment of companionable silence between them. "I still get caught up in my own head on nights like this. I don't know if I will ever grow accustomed to military life. I just find my mind swirling with a maelstrom of what-ifs, and probabilities, and contingencies, and expected casualty numbers."
Aymeric squeezed Orion's arm, comfortingly.
"I think every military leader indulges in some amount of anxiety on the eve of battle, or at least every good one that I have known. It should never be easy, knowing that on the morrow you will send thousands of good people to their deaths. That should weigh on a commander's conscience, no matter the righteousness of the their cause. But one way to ensure you get as many of them out alive as you can is to make sure that you are rested, clear-headed and ready for battle yourself.
Orion nodded silently, eyes cast down to his boots as they continued to make their way down a track packed smooth by thousands of feed and cartwheels over the course of recent days.
"Orion, darling," Aymeric stopped and turned to look him in the eye. Orion also turned and looked up, face still tense with anxiety. "We are as prepared as we can be. Tomorrow you will have the might of five nations and the Ala Mhigan resistance at your back. Everyone who is here believes our common cause is just and worth sacrificing for. The weight of the star is not pressing against your shoulder's alone. We will free Ala Mhigo, all of us together. This is not your fight alone."
"You're right," Orion said, nodding. "Of course you're right. Thank you, love, for getting me out of my own myopic spirals, and for coming to fetch me."
"I just wish I could be there to do so more often," Aymeric said, pulling Orion close and wrapping his arms around his torso, holding him tight. "Now, enough musings. Let's get what rest we can. Will you stay with me tonight? I, for one, will sleep better with you beside me."
"The only thing better would be if we could get Kendra to join us. But I don't dare risk the wrath of twenty sleepy miqo'te women." "Agreed," Aymeric laughed. "We don't dare."

Fablehaven headcanons that have no basis in canon but they're correct (trust)
Newel and Doren read manga in their free time (specifically Shoujo)
Seth enjoys drawing and painting, and his work is surprisingly good
Ronodin can play the violin very well
Kendra has a slight fear of dogs (<— me self projecting)
Kendra and Alyssa were actually friends when they were in kindergarten, but then drifted apart due to going to different elementary schools. They then reconnected in late middle school when they joined the same soccer team
Dragons human avatars look different based on how powerful they are. If a dragon is weak and doesnt have much power, when they transform into their human avatar they can be easily clocked as a dragon. Scales, horns, claws, unnatural skin color, ect. tend to appear on weaker dragons avatars. Colorful hair and eyes are the most common signs of a dragon at medium power. If a dragon is particularly powerful, their human avatar can look nearly indistinguishable from any normal mortal (for example, Navarog)
It’s the same case with unicorns. If a unicorn isn't very powerful, they can have more horse like features in their human avatar. Cloven hooves instead of normal feet, horse ears, and the horn still attached to the forehead. This usually only tends to happen to younger unicorns, who don't have as much control over their magic and havent gained their third horn
Before Stan became caretaker, and was in his 20s or so, he was good friends with Newel and Doren. He consistently hung out and partied with them, until he became caretaker and married Ruth. They're still friends to this day, but not as close as they used to be
During the first few years of Patton and Lena's marriage, Lena would visit the pond and chat with her sisters, though they usually either ignored her or beckoned her to come closer to the water. Her visits slowly waned over time, the nail in the coffin being when one of the naiads managed to grab her leg, and was only saved due to Patton being with her. She never visited again after that
Dale has a noticeable southern accent. Warren also has the slightest hint of one, but it becomes much more noticeable when he's emotional
