Preview of Upcoming Young Justice Project
Another grunt left him as he struggled to resist the mind control, his own body betraying him as he knelt before the new, self-proclaimed rulers of Earth, feeling Ma’alefa’ak pick through his mind while Ursa and the Eye of Ekron forced his compliance and forced his mind wide open.
"If you simply stop resisting, then it will not hurt as much, Little One." Ursa said in a mock sympathetic tone, a hand carding through his matted hair, surely coating said hand in blood.
Turns out, faking your own death only worked when those you were playing dead around didn't possess super hearing or the ability to sense brainwave activity…or weren't former Generals and Warlords familiar with such tactics and thus knew to wait and listen. And Dick could only keep up the act for so long. He was only human…a fact the Zods and Ma’alefa’ak gladly reminded him of since his capture a mere couple minutes ago.
"Where is the location of the Justice League and their bases?" Zod couldn't help but ask impatiently, "We need to find them and destroy them."
"Just a bit longer, Husband." Ursa shushed gently, Dick feeling sweat on his brow, tears in his eyes and frustration in his heart as his defenses were torn down completely, giving Ma’alefa’ak freedom to tear his mind apart, "There…such a good boy you are, Richard."

A yes, the revolutionary leader of an anti-oppression resistance movement will start turning on other resistance groups too because he’s *gasp* an extremist!! Your politics are bullshit, Young Justice cartoon.
#I’m just waiting for them to say that all extremists are the same; the classic ‘Youre just as bad as your oppressors!!’ pile of dogshit#This is in reference to ep 18#The first one in raquel’s arc#Like. Ma’alefa’ak isn’t even in character!! From what we’ve seen earlier in s4 he genuinely is interested in ending#the systemic oppression of white martians. and I frankly disagree that it makes sense for him to actually have just been interested in#nothing more than granting himself domineering leadership#which is what this alliance with darkseid seems to suggest? That all he cares about is personal power?#I really don’t think he would turn in other resistance group members#but even if I’m wrong and it IS somehow in character#Then that character is just absolutely disgusting from a meta standpoint#All writing is produced within a larger context.#The larger context here is real life ‘extremist’ left wing political movements; specifically anti-racist (and to an extent anti-capitalist)#ones. and for a bunch of white middle class writers to be writing this shit? makes me sick to my stomach#it’s the MCU problem of making your hero protagonist (yknow. the one who’s usually the one you’re meant to root for and usually supposed to#be some marker of morality in the show so u know when the antagonists are right vs wrong—it all depends on when they agree or disagree with#the protags.) ‘agree with your fight but not your methods’ and inexplicably make these extremist activists/leaders do morally reprehensible#bullshit alongside the good stuff#so you can be like ‘oh yeah this person was totally right about the racism but like. they also bombed a hospital full of dying children so#I cant support them 😔🥰’#cuz believe it or not that shit seeps into real life!!! This literally results in a hesitancy to trust real life antiracist movements#and things like that#UGHHHHHH anyway I’m tired#YJ#young justice#young justice cartoon#yj cartoon#Yj s4#yj season 4#mine#just some thoughts

How would Ma’alefa’ak sign for Ma’alenca’andra, do you think?
Tumblr media
This is how you sign "Mars" in ASL! It's a combination of the sign for "planet" and the sign for "red". I imagine the martians would create a unique sign for Ma'aleca'andra in Martian Sign Language.
I try not to make new sign words and avoid drawing characters signing their sign name (I stick to fingerspelling) because it's not my place as a hearing person to add to a language and a culture I'm not a part of. I don't have the authority!

Talk about the irony. Despite their superhero family, Miss Martian and Superboy are also related to a few super-villains as well. Superboy is the son of Lex Luthor and Miss Martian is the older sister of Ma’alefa’ak. Not to mention, this also means that Conner is Ma’alefa’ak’s brother-in-law and M’gann is Lex Luthor’s daughter-in-law too!

What can I say about Nightwing...
Tumblr media
Great now Kid Flash, Saturn girl & boy are stuck with Lor-Zord & Ma’alefa’ak. Oh & of course nobody knows that. Smh
Oh no! They know Conner... Well, his family crest. Not good! But also, I remember Phantom girl waking up. Maybe she's just pretending. Just to hear everything that's going on.
Ugh damn superman!! Just tell them. Lol But at least Artemis is helping.
Of Course, Nightwing would get everything in order! Lol
But omg he dated Zatanna & Rocket?! Nice. Lol jk
Ursa said Zor-El had a daughter. Where is she?! Give us her!!!
Phantom girl Finally woke up! But the way conner was talking... Idk if she'll be able convince him.
Damn Klarion!!! Ugh I wish Fate had shown up & checked him! But I bet the bus is the key to get into the Phantom zone. But I also can bet that's how the other Kryptonians get out as well.
A boy in a box? A boy from earth... Who is Kaizer-Thrall & why does Lor-Zod want it?
Can't wait to see Oa. That means we'll see more Lanterns! yay!!
Also, that end credit... Soranik Natu.
This was just another set-up episode. But I enjoyed it!

Hey, who wants to listen to me explain my idea for an origin for Ma’alefa’ak for my Young Titans AU?
Credit goes to @jesncin for giving me permission to use their Ma’alefa’ak design as a basis for him in this AU. Thanks again for that.
For those who are unfamiliar with Ma’alefa’ak, he’s the brother of J’onn J’onzz. Ma’alefa’ak was stripped of his telepathy and his memory of it, making him grow bitter. He created Hronmeer’s Curse, a virus that wiped out every other Green Martian besides J’onn; Ma’alefa’ak’s lack of telepathy made him immune to the virus. When Ma’alefa’ak discovered J’onn’s survival, he tried to dismantle J’onn’s life. J’onn was forced to kill him by restoring Ma’alefa’ak’s telepathy while orbiting the sun, triggering the virus in Ma’alefa’ak. That’s the canon.
In my Young Titans AU, these events all still happened, but Ma’alefa’ak and J’onn also had a fight in the ancient Martian city of Z’onn Z’orr in Antarctica that results in bits and pieces of Ma’alefa’ak being scattered all over the med bay.
More than a decade later, Lex Luthor has finally decided to give up on trying to get his own Kryptonian. Every clone he’s made has turned on him, and every attempt he’s made to brainwash said clones has failed. But Lex realized that perhaps a Martian clone could have even more potential; after all, Martian Manhunter was the closest being on Earth to a Kryptonian’s power level.
Lex has J’onn’s flight paths tracked for weeks and uses the information to locate Z’onn Z’orr as a probable hideout or base of operations. He sends a team to the location to collect Martian DNA samples, and the team returns with Ma’alefa’ak’s pieces.
Lex uses Ma’alefa’ak’s DNA to create his own Martian clone. Luckily, the DNA in the samples was only marginally incomplete, so while the Martian clone cannot speak or use telepathy (Lex is wrong abt the lack of telepathy being a cloning error, it’s generic memory from his previous incarnation), its DNA didn’t need to be patched with that of another species.
The scientists at CADMUS were able to massively accelerate the clone’s development until he physically reached the Martian equivalent of 14 years old, at which point the accelerated aging lessened exponentially to where Ma’alefa’ak now ages only superhumanly slowly, rather than to a Martian degree.
Martians have powerful genetic memory, which becomes more relevant later on, but at first it just means that he remembers his name and tells it to Luthor. Luthor likes the sound but not the spelling and dubs him “Malefic”.
When Luthor learns about the formation of the Young Titans team, and that the younger Superboy is a member, he decides to send Malefic on a test drive.
It is worth noting that “Malefic” stays mostly in his fully natural form (the spindly form with the more pointed skull), representing how Luthor has stripped Ma’alefa’ak of his personhood.
After Malefic is subdued, J’onn is contacted. He recognizes Ma’alefa’ak and is able to unlock much more of the Martian boy’s genetic memory, enough for Ma’alefa’ak to regain his identity and sense of self. Unfortunately, Ma’alefa’ak’s genetic memory had decayed over the last decade, so J’onn was only able to unlock some of Ma’alefa’ak’s memory, and only up to the point that matched his physical age.
J’onn decides to take in and basically foster Ma’alefa’ak, partly out of his perceived guilt for failing Ma’alefa’ak in the past.
Damian suggests that Ma’alefa’ak also join the Young Titans to help him acclimate to Earth more effectively, to which everyone agrees.
Later on, Ma’alefa’ak chooses a human form for himself, which he comes to like as much as, if not more than his Martian form. He also chooses the human name “Malek” and actually asks that his friends call him that instead of Ma’alefa’ak, as a nickname of sorts.
To give Malek a way to communicate, J’onn teaches him fingerspelling, and Damian teaches him sign language.

Hazbin/dc au Malefic bio: the first execution Martian in the history of mars. Ma’alefa’ak j’onzz was the Martian who j’onn j’onzz kill on that mission to a other planet. Why? Because j’onn wouldn’t he date his daughter. Malefic was banish to a planet in hell solar system for punishment. But imp astronauts one day visit the planet and malefic kill one of astronauts and impersonate to go back hell. Finding out that j’onn have become a superhero malefic decide to a supervillain
There’s a lot going on here but all my brain can focus on is the concept of Hell space

Whumptober: Young Justice S4 AU
Because there is no way in Hell the Zods would have just not picked up a heartbeat (even a faint one) nor would Ma’alefa’ak not have picked up his brainwaves (because he was talking to Miss M via mindlink).
So, that being said, the Zods have a prisoner, leverage, and a trophy when they bring their army over to take over Earth. And the Eye of Ekron provides some assistance in compliance.
Rated for obvious reasons: Language, Violence, and Sexual Themes.

Hey! I just wanted to say that I LOVE your DC comic, especially the stuff about Martian Manhunter. I really like your version of Ma’alefa’ak, and had a question: if he and J’onn are twins (albeit presumably not identical) why is Mal so much smaller than J’onn? Just curious!
Hi there! Thank you!!! So touched that the DC fancomic we made was able to connect with others so much :')
We wanted to address how Ma'alefa'ak was often coded as disabled in the comics. He was considered inferior as "the only Martian without telepathy" (and weirdly obsessed with genocide) meanwhile his brother J'onn was usually portrayed as "the exceptional able-bodied" Martian (in some comics J'onn is a fusion of the "best" martians).
So in our version, J'onn is motivated to leave Mars because the other Martians mistreated his brother. They develop martian sign language, and escape to earth where they meet a new found family in the Justice League :)
In short, Mal is much smaller than J'onn to show how differently they were treated! We also wanted to show twins who looked different, hehe.
