I'll admit, even as far back as Halloween 2016, that I was never really a huge fan of The 8-Bit Beast's Haunted House meme. It has interesting history, certainly, it's part of an in-joke in the chiptune community that I'll never truly know the full extent of due to not being part of it...but as an actual song used in rips, it's entire point is basically to just be a non-Sonic. And so, I'm often left unimpressed by all the spins taken on this particular melody, even though it keeps showing up halloween after halloween, and is intricately tied to Wood Man in the lore.
All that is to say, that Maroon 5 more like Maroon 8 hehehehehehe really caught me off guard with how funny I found it when it was submitted to me just last week. It's yet another one of eg_9371's crazy ventures of just running with an idea no matter how bizarre or difficult it sounds, and doing it in the most high-effort way possible (The Secret Forest of Bones sticks out as a notable example). It's a mix of Maroon 5's Moves Like Jagger with the lead melody of Haunted House - and though the repetitive main melody remains, the progression that Moves Like Jagger would otherwise have in its backing and lead instruments still remain. It gives an otherwise really repetitive meme an actual sense of progression, althewhile still sounding so authentically like the original Maroon 5 song with all its instruments along for the ride. Adam Levine-posting has long been a staple of the channel thanks to channel creator Chaze the Chat's obsession with his band, and it's always fun to see rips like this that take two long-running jokes and attempts to combine them for the first time.
Though I don't think I'll ever fully accept and embrace the power of the beast, it is fun to see what can be done with such a simple recognizable melody when rippers really put their head in gear. And given that it's basically a halloween-exclusive meme, it at least doesn't wear out its welcome too easily.
So normally i think before sending asks believe it or not, but im tired and listening to music so ill just send this off lol
What color is moves like jagger? Do different parts of the song have different colors? Or is it just one color the entire time? Does the color change when the person singing changes? Does the color change when theres a beat playing behind them singing and when they’re whistling? /gq
Don't worry! Sleep deprived posting is my whole brand lmao
Its kind of a nice purple colour, but songs definitely do change as they go on. They usually have a main colour tho, in this case a dull but deep purple (I tried to make it below). The song has flecks of a weird gold-silver I can't exactly describe too and the whistling is like a white smoke. I might try to make it a colour card when I'm next at my drawing software
There's no shame in hiding it - SiIvaGunner, and more specifically Chaze, made me a full-on fan of Maroon 5. I'm unsure of how much of a shared experience it is, but for a very long time I effectively didn't listen to music outside of ones from the video games I played, as non-VGM just never did much for me. That feeling still lingers a slight bit for me, and I've speculated that its due to me feeling like I need some sort of prior attachment to the music in order for it to really click for me. A piece of music written for a boss fight just becomes all the more gripping when you can directly recall lines of dialogue from the boss fight, your original thoughts from when you played the fight, and the atmosphere presented as a whole.
My funky brain aside, having been a SiIva watcher for such a long time has given me a similar sort of attachment to many of its recurring jokes and memes. Thanks to Chaze, one of those recurring jokes just so happened to be Maroon 5, a band I was only partially familiar with beforehand. Through Chaze's repeated use of their songs, particularly in Season 1 and 2, it dawned on me just how many of them actually WERE familiar to me, and how much they actually did bang when I was actually invested in them. SiIva gives people a community to listen to music together with every two or four hours a day, along with having that music be intrinsically tied to media you likely are already familiar with. Such was the case for me here - the Animal Crossing Movie was one of my first true favorite films and one I cherish dearly, in large part due to its music, with K.K. Bossa in particular hitting me like a train on every visit.
A simple mashup though it be, its kind of a funky idea for one, isn't it? Mashing up tearjerking orchestral bossa nova with modern Maroon 5's typical radiopop doesn't feel like it should work, yet the mood of both songs still manage to shine through - the upbeat passion of Moves like Jagger, alongside the relaxing vibes and nostalgia of K.K. Bossa somehow blend together to form an absolutely stellar feel-good vibe. And right as I type this, listening to the song in the background, I hear my favorite little touch in the song - a discrete whistle of the Flintstones theme playing in the background of the song's end. Through the years I've had this track in my playlist for, that whistle always manages to take that happy feeling and turn it into something bittersweet, connecting the track to the Season 1 finale it was released so close to. The feelings that the channel was about to end were at an alltime high when this album released, and this song has always carried that weight in a really special way.
For me, there's lots of nostalgia present with this one. Lots of emotions, too. Never underestimate the potency of a well-placed mashup.
