Today was such a gorgeous day. The sun was shining, and the birds were chirping. It was the perfect day to take a nap underneath the sun's rays. Zac had been curled up on his side in the middle of a secluded grassy field, dreaming his day away with his homework books sprawled beside him.

Until he had been abruptly awakened by the sudden heavy downpour. The sound that came from him consisted of shock and horror as he quickly moved to shove his schoolwork in his bag and try to find shelter.

Sam's. Sam's was closest, right? He quickly ran to the said shop and stood underneath the building's architecture to at least get out of the rain somewhat.

The door beside him opened, revealing Rove. He smirked and was about to retaliate with a sarcastic comment when-

FWACK!

Zac's face was suddenly thwarted with Rove's umbrella. A small yelp escaped the lion at the shock, but then a dangerous growl came from his throat as he glared down at Rove.

"Give me that!"

He snatched the umbrella off Rove and held it in the middle of them both to protect them from the rain, his spare hand rubbing at his jaw. "Talk about tough love..." he grumbled under his breath. "There are other ways of showing your affection other than physically assaulting them with umbrellas, you know?!"

“Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt” (thread continued from here with @rove-bogge)

It was clear by body language that Rove didn't believe Ember. Years of it had just led to acceptance. In the end Rove let out a breath he hadn't realised he had been holding.

"What should I say to Ortho?" He asked. "I don't think Sorry is enough to cover it." He grumbled. "And what's to say I don't just ruin it all over again and make it worse. Life would be so much easier if I was reprogrammable!" He vented huffing in annoyance.

Ember tried to push down his instinct to simply shrug.

“I… don’t really know what you’re supposed to say, Rove.” He answered. People weren’t his strong suit, especially not people who seemingly were also children. If he was honest, he didn’t quite understand why an apology wouldn’t be enough, but he imagined there were more layers to it than he understood.

“And there’s no guarantee you won’t fuck everything up. But you try? That’s what I’m always told at least,” He sighed, trying to figure out what his sister would say, “You’re probably going to fuck up again but you aren’t going to let it stop you from trying, okay? You want to be better and that’s a place to start.”

‘What is sitting in these bullshit feelings supposed to do, make you hate yourself? Plenty of people will do that for you. Especially if you keep this up.’ He remembered Flora telling him. He didn’t repeat that out loud, of course, he didn’t want to crush the poor man.
