#Saving on Valuable Education plan
Text
The New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA) filed a lawsuit Friday against the Biden administration’s new student loan income-driven repayment (IDR) plan.
The lawsuit comes after the Department of Education launched a beta website this week for the Saving on Valuable Education (SAVE) application, the new IDR plan the White House has dubbed the “most generous” for student borrowers.
The NCLA, on behalf of the Cato Institute and the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, filed a suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan to stop the implementation of this plan.
The NCLA is arguing that the new IDR plan violates the Constitution’s Appropriations Clause, which allows Congress to be in charge of what debt owed to the Treasury can be canceled.
Under the SAVE plan, loan forgiveness would come quicker for many borrowers. For one, the plan allows borrower whose student loan has an original principal balance of $12,000 or less to get forgiveness after 10 years of payments.
It also allows certain periods of deferment and forbearance to count toward the time needed to get full forgiveness on an individual’s loan.
“In the Nebraska case, the Supreme Court struck down the Department of Education’s brazen attempt to pull a billion-dollar ‘elephant’ out of a statutory ‘mousehole.’ This time the Department’s loan-cancellation scheme does not even pretend to have a statutory ‘mousehole,'” said Sheng Li, Litigation Counsel for NCLA.
“The [Public Service Loan Forgiveness] and IDR statutes require borrowers to make a certain number of monthly payments before earning forgiveness. By trying to count non-payments as payments, the strategy seems to be to cancel $39 billion faster than a court can review and stop this blatantly unlawful act,” Li continued.
Along with the $39 billion the NCLA says the Department could cancel almost immediately, it would allow debt to be canceled for 2.8 million more IDR borrowers in the future.
“Instead of promulgating the plan through the required notice-and-comment and negotiated rulemaking process under the Administrative Procedure Act, the Department simply issued a press release that did not identify any laws to justify it,” the NCLA wrote.
The challenge to the SAVE plan comes two months before student loan borrowers will be forced back into repayment after the three-year COVID-19 student loan pause.
The Hill has reached out to the Department of Education for comment.

The Biden administration yesterday rolled out its latest tool to tackle the student debt crisis, and as we discussed earlier this year, it’s a good one. While the administration is still working on a broader debt forgiveness plan that it hopes will survive the Trump/McConnell Supreme Court, the new income-driven repayment program, called the “Saving on a Valuable Education” (SAVE) plan, should drastically cut the amount of student loan payments for lower-income borrowers, and for many, will actually get those payments down to zero.
[ ]
Tumblr media
With the SAVE plan, the Education Department will no longer charge any interest that isn’t covered by the monthly loan payment, putting an end to the interest-accumulating hamster wheel that so many of us know all too well, where you make your payments on time but your goddamn loan balance keeps growing. As the fact sheet explains:
For example, if a borrower has $50 in interest that accumulates each month and their payment is $30 per month under the new SAVE plan, the remaining $20 would not be charged as long as they make their $30 monthly payment. The Department of Education estimates that 70 percent of borrowers who were on an IDR plan before the payment pause would stand to benefit from this change.
As with other income-driven plans, once a borrower has made payments for 20 years (for undergrad debt) or 25 years (for grad school debt), any remaining balance will be forgiven — yes, even if the monthly payment amount was zero for some or all of that period. Explain to your rightwing uncle that such forgiveness is not a new gimmick Joe Biden made up; it’s how IDR plans have worked since Congress authorized them in the 1990s.

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week. #6
Feb 16-23 2024
The EPA announced 5.8 billion dollars in funding upgrade America's water systems. 2.6 billion will go to wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, while the remaining $3.2 billion will go to drinking water infrastructure. $1 billion will go toward the first major effort to remove PFASs, forever chemicals, from American drinking water. The Administration all reiterated its plans to remove all lead pipes from America's drinking water systems, its spent 6 billion on lead pipe replacement so far.
The Department of Education announced the cancellation of $1.2 billion in student loan debt reliving 153,000 borrowers. This is the first debt cancellation through the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan, which erases federal student loan balances for those who originally borrowed $12,000 or less and have been making payments for at least 10 years. Since the Biden Administration's more wide ranging student loan cancellation plan was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2023 the Administration has used a patchwork of different plans and authorities to cancel $138 billion in student debt and relieve nearly 4 million borrowers, so far.
First Lady Jill Biden announced $100 million in federal funding for women’s health research. This is part of the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research the First Lady launched last year. The First Lady outlined ways women get worse treatment outcomes because common health problems like heart attacks and cancer are often less understood in female patients.
The Biden Administration announced 500 new sanctions against Russian targets in response to the murder of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny. The sanctions will target people involved in Navalny's imprisonment as well as sanctions evaders. President Biden met with Navalny's widow Yulia and their daughter Dasha in San Francisco
The White House and Department of Agriculture announced $700 Million in new investments to benefit people in rural America. The projects will help up to a million people living in 45 states, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Mariana Islands. It includes $51.7 million to expand access to high-speed internet, and $644.2 million to help 158 rural cooperatives and utilities provide clean drinking water and sanitary wastewater systems for 578,000 people in rural areas.
The Department of Commerce signed a deal to provide $1.5 billion in upgrades and expand chip factories in New York and Vermont to boost American semiconductor manufacturing. This is the biggest investment so far under the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act
the Department of Transportation announced $1.25 billion in  funding for local projects that improve roadway safety. This is part of the administration's Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program launched in 2022. So far SS4A has spent 1.7 billion dollars in 1,000 communities impacting 70% of America's population.
The EPA announced $19 million to help New Jersey buy electric school buses. Together with New Jersey's own $45 million dollar investment the state hopes to replace all its diesel buses over the next three years. The Biden Administration's investment will help electrify 5 school districts in the state. This is part of the The Clean School Bus Program which so far has replaced 2,366 buses at 372 school districts since it was enacted in 2022.
Bonus: NASA in partnership with Intuitive Machines landed a space craft, named Odysseus, on the moon, representing the first time in 50 years America has gone to the moon. NASA is preparing for astronauts to return to the moon by the end of the decade as part of the Artemis program. All under the leadership of NASA Administrator, former Democratic Senator and astronaut Bill Nelson.

Biden wants to ban ripoff “financial advisors”
Tumblr media
I'll be at the Studio City branch of the LA Public Library on Monday, November 13 at 1830hPT to launch my new novel, The Lost Cause. There'll be a reading, a talk, a surprise guest (!!) and a signing, with books on sale. Tell your friends! Come on down!
Tumblr media
Once, American workers had "defined benefits pensions," where their employers promised to pay them a certain amount every year from their retirement to their death. Jimmy Carter swapped that out for 401(k)s, "market" pensions where you have to guess which stocks will be valuable or starve in your old age:
https://pluralistic.net/2020/07/25/derechos-humanos/#are-there-no-poorhouses
The initial 401(k) rollout had all kinds of pot-sweeteners that made them seem like a good deal, like heavy employer matching that doubled or even tripled the value of every dollar you put into the market for your retirement. But over the years, as Reaganomics took hold and workers' power ebbed away, all these goodies were clawed back. In the end, the market-based pension makes you the sucker at the poker table, flushing your savings into a rigged casino that is firmly tilted in favor of finance barons and other eminently guillotineable plutocrats.
Neoliberalism is many things, but most of all it is a cult of individualism. The fact that three generations of workers are nows facing down retirement without pensions that will provide them with secure housing and food – let alone money to see the odd movie, buy birthday gifts for their grandkids, or enjoy a meal out now and then – is framed as millions of individual failures, not a systemic one.
In other words, if you are facing food insecurity and homelessness after a lifetime of hard work, it's because you saved wrong. Perhaps you didn't save enough (through a 40-year run of wage stagnation and skyrocketing housing, health and education costs). Or perhaps you saved wrong, making the wrong bets on the stock market. If you can't afford to run your air conditioner during a heat dome, that's on you: you should have been better at stocks.
Apologists for this system will say that you don't have to be good at stocks – you just have to pay an Independent Financial Advisor to pick the stocks for you and you'll be fine. But IFAs don't work for free! What if you can't afford one?
Enter "predatory inclusion" – the practice of offering scammy, overpriced and substandard products to poor people and declaring it to be a good deed, because otherwise, those poor people would have to do without. The crypto bubble relied heavily on this: think of Spike Lee and others shilling for pump-and-dump scams as a way of "building Black wealth":
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/07/business/media/cryptocurrency-seeks-the-spotlight-with-spike-lees-help.html
More recently, Intuit and other scammy tax-prep services have argued against the IRS's plan to offer free tax preparation as bad for Black and brown people, because it will deny them the chance to be deceived and ripped off with TurboTax:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/27/predatory-inclusion/#equal-opportunity-scammers
Back in 2018, Trump won the predatory inclusion Olympics, when his Department of Labor let the Fifth Circuit abolish the "Fiduciary Rule" for Independent Financial Advisors:
https://www.investopedia.com/updates/dol-fiduciary-rule/
What was the Fiduciary Rule? It said that your IFN had to put your interests ahead of their own. Like, if there were two different funds you could bet on, and one would pay your IFN a big commission, while the other would be a better bet for you, the IFN couldn't put your retirement savings into the fund that offered them a bribe.
When Trump killed the Fiduciary Rule, he proclaimed it a victory for poor people, especially Black and brown people. After all, if IFNs weren't allowed to accept bribes for giving you bad financial advice, then they would have to make up the difference by charging you for good advice. If you couldn't afford that advice, well, you'd have to make bad retirement investments on your own, without the benefit of their sleazy self-dealing.
The Biden Administration wants to change that. Biden's Acting Labor Secretary is Julie Su, and she's very good at her job. Last spring, she forced west coast dockworkers' bosses to cough up the contract they'd stalled on for a year, with 8-10% raises for every worker, owed retroactively:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/16/that-boy-aint-right/#dinos-rinos-and-dunnos
Su has proposed a way to reinstate the Fiduciary Rule, as part of the Biden Administration's war on junk fees, estimating that this will increase retirees' net savings by 20%:
https://prospect.org/labor/2023-11-07-julie-su-labor-retirement-savers/
The new rule will force advisors who cheat their clients to pay restitution, and will require them to deliver all their advice in writing so that this cheating can be detected and punished.
The industry is furious, of course. They claim that "The Market (TM)" will solve this: if you get bad retirement savings advice and end up homeless and starving, then you will choose a different advisor in your next life, after you are reincarnated (I guess?).
And of course, they're also claiming that forcing IFNs to stop cheating their clients will deny poor people access to expert (bad) advice. As the Financial Services Institute's Dale Brown says, this will have a "negative impact on Main Street Americans’ access to financial advice":
https://www.fa-mag.com/news/legal-challenge-predicted-for-new-dol-fiduciary-proposal-75257.html
Here's that rule – read it for yourself, then submit a comment expressing your views on it. The government wants to hear from you, and administrative law requires them to act on the comments they receive:
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/11/03/2023-23782/proposed-amendment-to-prohibited-transaction-exemptions-75-1-77-4-80-83-83-1-and-86-128
Su is part of a wave of progressive, technically skilled regulators in the Biden administration that resulted from a horse-trading exercise called the Unity Task Force, which divvied up access to top appointments among the progressive wing and the finance wing of the Democratic Party. The progressive appointments are nothing short of incredible – the most competent and principled agency leaders America has seen in half a century:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/10/23/getting-stuff-done/#praxis
But then there's the finance wing's appointments, like Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley, who ruled against Lina Khan's attempt to block the rotten Microsoft/Activision merger (don't worry, Khan's appealing):
https://pluralistic.net/2023/07/14/making-good-trouble/#the-peoples-champion
Perhaps the worst, though, is Biden's Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, a private equity ghoul who did a stint for the notorious wreckers Bain Capital before founding her own firm. Raimondo has stuffed her department full of Goldman Sachs alums, and has sidelined labor and civil society groups as she sets out to administer everything from the CHIPS Act to regulating ChatGPT.
As Henry Burke writes for the Revolving Door Project and The American Prospect, Raimondo's history as a corporate raider, her deference to the finance sector, and she and her husband's conflicts of interest from their massive stakes in companies she's regulating all serve to undermine Biden's agenda:
https://prospect.org/economy/2023-11-08-commerce-secretary-gina-raimondo-undercutting-bidenomics/
When the administration inevitably complains that its popular economic programs aren’t breaking through the media coverage, they’ll have no one to blame but themselves.
The Unity Task Force gave us generationally important policymakers, but ultimately, it's a classic "pizzaburger." If half your family wants pizza, and the other half wants burgers, and you serve them something halfway in between that makes none of them happy, you haven't made a wise compromise – you've just made an inedible mess:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/17/pizzaburgers/

Four actual life lessons that I’ve gained from the Ghostbusters:
It’s never too late to start over: Ever feel like you’re ‘behind’ everyone else’s milestones? Or your life should be planned by a certain age? The Ghostbusters are grown adults who are still figuring things out! They also transformed an intimidating setback (losing their academic jobs) into an opportunity to pursue something better.
Stay intellectually curious and keep learning: The Ghostbusters are highly educated and have professional experience. Yet they don’t pretend to know everything—in fact, quite the opposite. They go to the library. They pour over reference materials. They look beyond obvious answers and learn from each other.
Take calculated risks: You can’t succeed if you never try! The Ghostbusters’ gadgets aren’t real, but the spirit behind designing them is. Even after you prepare as much as possible, you may have to send a creation into the world while feeling uncertain about it. The Ghostbusters didn’t know if the proton packs would stop Slimer, but they tried it. They didn’t know if crossing the proton streams would work on Gozer, but trying to save the world seemed better than doing nothing.
You need the right people around you: The Ghostbusters are buddies who find fame and success while having a blast together. Wouldn’t it be cool be your own boss? Spend your days fighting ghosts and eating Cheez-its with your besties in a sweet firehouse? (Those questions are rhetorical…) As valuable as friendship is, the Ghostbusters also needed to hire the right outsiders to complete the company. Bottom line, you can’t achieve your goals without the right team on your side.

“Hey, sweetheart,” Melissa greeted you with breakfast in hand. She was helping you do you hair today, and you'd need all the energy you could get to make it through the morning.
“Hi,” you beamed in her direction. Butterflies erupted in your stomach as you laid eyes on the redhead. Hearing her call you sweetheart made you dizzy. It left you feeling like those cartoon characters with hearts spinning around their head.
You reached out to grab the food from her, and you two walked toward the kitchen. She made a pit stop in the living room to put her bag down, and you worked on setting the table up. You went to grab water from the fridge, and as you closed the door you felt arms wrap around your waist. The action was followed by her placing kisses on your neck. You set the pitcher down on the counter, scared you might drop it due to your faltering grip.
“Well, hello again,” you chuckled, turning around in the embrace. You were met with green eyes and a smile just as wide as yours.
“Hi there.” Her pillow-soft lips tenderly pressed against yours. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too,” you said in between kisses. “Feels like I haven’t seen you in ages.”
Being away from her made you feel like something was missing. She added to your life in ways you didn’t realize until she wasn’t there. Everything seemed sweeter when she was around.
“I know. I can't believe you tried to cancel on me,” she pouted.
“I believe my words were 'postpone', not cancel,” you corrected her.
A couple nights ago you were on the phone with a dejected Melissa. You'd called to discuss the agenda for the weekend, and she was not happy with your verdict. You had a hair appointment on Sunday which meant you'd be spending all of Saturday prepping for it. Because of this, you wanted to postpone your plans with her. You would be able to have your usual Sunday dinner, but your other ventures would have to be saved for another time.
Your complaint was that you wouldn’t be able to enjoy your time with her because you’d be too focused on your hair. You explained the hours that went into doing everything and how it would be unfair to make her sit through that.
While you thought your reasoning was valid, Melissa didn’t. In her eyes, she’d be missing out on valuable time with you. Time she could be using to learn about you and take care of you. She'd said, “Who said I'd just be sitting there? I want to help.” And when you began to protest she added, “What if you need me to do your hair one day? I don’t want to be clueless. I want to know how to do it.”
You hadn't been expecting her to say that, but you should have known it was coming. Even after you told her how much effort went into managing your hair, she was still eager to assist. She was kind in that way; willing to do anything to make your life easier. You admired her adamance, and you would have been a fool to cancel your plans after that.
“I’m sorry.” You laid your forehead on her shoulder, placing kisses over the expanse of skin not covered by her shirt. “I didn’t think you wanted to be involved in the hair chronicles.”
“Why not?”
“Because you could be doing so many other things.”
“Well, I specifically cleared my weekend to be with you.” She lifted your chin up, locking eyes with you. “You know I don’t care what we do. As long as I’m with you, I’m good.”
“Who are you and what have you done with Melissa?” you joked. She was forward with her affections today – giving you loving touches and sweet words. You hadn’t seen her all week and clearly, absence made her heart grow fonder.
“Oh, stop it.” She nudged your arm. “I can be sweet sometimes.”
“You’re sweet all the time.” You kissed her lips once, then again with the intention of stopping, but somehow you found yourself making out in the middle of your kitchen.
“The food’s gonna get cold,” she murmured against your mouth but didn’t make any attempts to move away.
“I have a microwave,” you took a moment to catch your breath, “and an oven.”
She laughed and tiny sparks jolted through your heart as the melody rang throughout the space. Oh, how you missed hearing that.
“Come on, let’s eat.”
You sat down in the seat across from her and began to open your box of food. “Oh, did you want coffee?” you asked, realizing you completely forgot to make some. You knew she’d say yes, so you began to stand.
“I’ll make some in a minute.” She grabbed your hand stopping you from making any further movements.
“Are you sure? It’ll only take two seconds.”
“I'm sure,” she insisted. There was a familiar glint in her eyes and you could tell she didn’t want to be out of your company – even if you were just taking a few steps to the coffee machine. “Right now I just want to sit down and eat with you.”
You squeezed her hand before sitting back down, unable to suppress the smile that snuck onto your face – honestly, it may have never left.
“Tell me about your week,” Melissa spoke as she took her silverware out of the packaging.
You chatted about each other’s weeks and you told her about the project you were working on. You even slipped in some workplace drama for her entertainment, and you two laughed over how silly some of your coworkers were. She told you about her students and how well they were doing with presenting their book projects. As you ate, you marveled at the way her eyes lit up. You respected the adoration she had for her kids. She genuinely loved her job and it showed.
“How’s Ashley?” you asked. The last thing you heard was that she wasn’t getting along with her aide.
“Actually, I’m growing to tolerate her.” She looked at you with a pleased look.
“Really?” You tried to mask your shocked expression, but your reaction was evident in your voice.
“Don’t sound so surprised.”
“I’m not. I just–,” you paused. “I don’t know. You just always complain about her.”
“Yeah,” she looked up at the sky as if she was reminiscing, “Jacob helped me get through to her. I just needed to see things from her point of view.”
“See, didn’t I tell you?” You’d also told Melissa that she just needed to be patient with Ashley and think about the young woman’s feelings too. Teaching a class was hard work, and it could be even harder if you didn’t have the support of your peers.
“I know, I know.” She held her hands up in defense. “You were right.”
“You should listen to me more,” you smiled.
She rolled her eyes, “I already said you were right. What more do you want?”
“I’m just saying,” you shrugged. “I’m glad you worked it out though.”
“You done bragging?” Melissa asked, giving you side-eye.
“No, not yet,” you smirked, “but I am done eating.”
“I’m never telling you you’re right ever again.” She stood and gathered your trash.
Your jaw dropped as you walked to the counter to make her coffee. “Whatever. The satisfaction of knowing I’m right will do.”
She came to stand in front of you as the aroma of espresso filled the air. She placed her hand on your hip and pulled you toward her, closing the gap. “I told you I’d make that.”
“You know I’m hard-headed,” you whispered, your proximity causing you to lower your voice.
“Oh, I know.” She brought her hand up to the hem of your shirt, fingers moving under the fabric and coming in contact with your bare skin. Her digits trailed up your torso until they were brushing against your ribs.
“Stop.” You tried to be stern, but the words came out softer than you intended.
“I’m not doing anything.” She leaned into your neck, her lips skimming the surface. She placed a kiss over the hollow space in the center, and your eyes fluttered at the sensation.
“Melissa.” You gently pushed her away. “I invited you here to help me do my hair, not to kiss my neck.”
“I don’t see the harm in doing both.” She draped her arms around your waist, feigning a look of hurt.
“Yeah, that’s the problem.” You laughed before shrugging her off. “Your coffee’s done. You know where everything is, help yourself.”
“Thank you.” Her eyes were fixed on yours, and you could barely hold the intense gaze.
“You’re welcome,” you smiled. “Meet me on the couch when you’re done.”
“Will do.” She finally moved to grab her mug.
“And stop looking at me like that. You’re gonna kill me.” You added before walking out of the kitchen.
✦ ✦ ✦
Once Melissa was done, she joined you in the living room. She was met with the sight of you sitting in front of it the couch. Your back was resting against the cushions and you had a collection of hair tools and products sitting before you. Sound from the TV filled the area as you searched for a movie on Netflix.
“What do you wanna watch?”
She sipped her drink before answering, “Something funny.”
“Okay, you pick. I’m tired of looking.” You passed the remote to her before slumping against the couch.
“You’ve been looking for like 30 seconds.” She took a seat behind you, pulling her legs up to rest next to her.
“Yeah, 30 seconds too long,” you sighed as you sorted through the items in front of you.
“What’s wrong?” Melissa could sense the sudden change in your attitude.
“I don’t feel like doing this,” you whined, tilting your head back and laying it against her thigh.
She paused her search for the movie to look down at you. “I thought you were excited?”
“I’m excited to get my hair done, but I’m not excited to do all the prep.”
“What all do you have to do?” she asked, settling on playing The Hangover.
You released a deep sigh as you let Melissa in on the plan. “First, I have to take these braids out. Then I’m gonna detangle my hair, wash it, and deep condition it. After all of that, I have to blow dry it.”
‘Okay,” she murmured into her coffee, preparing to take a sip, “just take it one step at a time.”
“Ugh! Melissa, you don’t understand.” You dragged your hands across your face in misery. “It’s gonna take me so long.”
“How long?” She moved her free hand down to yours, pulling them away so she could properly look at you.
“Like four hours. Maybe five depending on how lazy I get.”
“Five hours?” She raised her eyebrows in shock. Even though you'd told her about the process, she wasn’t aware of exactly how long it took. “Shit, babe.”
“Last time it took me longer,” you informed her. “But I also did everything across the span of a few days. I like doing it that way, but unfortunately, I don’t have time.” Your hair appointment was tomorrow and you hadn’t even begun, so you were on a bit of a time crunch.
“Relax, hon. You know I’m gonna help you.” She tried to encourage you, knowing that you got overwhelmed easy.
“It’s still gonna take so. damn. long.” You punctuated each sentence with a tap of your head against her thigh.
“The faster we start the sooner it’ll be over.” She brought her hand to back up to your face, laying her palm against your cheek. “What do you need me to do?”
“If you could help me take these braids out I would really appreciate it.”
She set her coffee mug down, then scooted toward the edge of the couch so she could reach you better. “Of course. Just tell me what to do.”
“It’s pretty self-explanatory.” You repositioned yourself so she could see you properly.
She looked at you, ready to take in your instructions.
“You’re gonna cut the end of the braid,” you took your scissors and demonstrated, “then you’re just gonna loosen it.” Melissa watched as you removed the extensions from your hair. “You think you can handle that?”
“Yeah, seems simple enough,” she nodded.
You passed her a pair of scissors and said, “The only thing I ask is that you don’t cut my hair off.”
“Oh, God.” She took the object from your hand. “Thanks for putting pressure on me.”
“If you’re not sure where my hair ends just overestimate, but it stops about right here.” You showed her an approximation on another braid. “No biggie if you cut a little bit off.”
“You say that, but I feel like you’re lying.” She held the scissors in her dominant hand, hesitant to make a move.
“I do it all the time believe it or not,” you assured her.
“Okay, but if you do it to yourself that’s different.” She picked up her chosen braid and squinted hoping that would help her to see where your hair ended. “Go in my purse and get my glasses, please.”
You burst out in laughter at that. “Really, Lissa. It’s not that deep.”
“Uh, it is that deep,” she mocked your words. “I’m serious. You know my eyes are bad.”
“You need a purse organizer.” You rifled through the bag in search of her glasses. “Actually, you need to clean your purse out. There’s so much stuff in here,” you said, pulling out a wrapper from a snack she must have eaten recently.
“You’re talking a lot of shit for someone who’s entrusting me with a pair of scissors.” She joked.
“You're not funny.” You gave her a stony look. “But you really do have a lot of stuff.”
You finally pulled out her glasses and passed them to her. She placed them over her eyes and motioned for you to come back to her, but you sat there for a second just admiring her.
“Stop being weird and come here. We’ve got business to tend to.” You watched her lip twitch as she fought the smile that was tugging at her lips.
You couldn’t help but stare, she was just so pretty. “So it’s only okay when you do it?”
“I’m not as obvious as you.” She justified as you took your place in front of her.
You gasped in shock, “You’re worse than me!”
She didn’t respond, instead choosing to grab one of your braids. You couldn’t see her, but you knew she was inspecting it carefully.
“Can you see it any better?”
“Yes, actually, I can.” She took the scissors and snipped the excess off of the braid.
Her actions were delicate as she moved her fingers through your hair. It was much different from the way you handled it. You weren’t afraid to yank at the strands, but Melissa seemed to be – almost like she was scared of hurting you.
Noticing that she was moving a lot slower than you, you decided to share a tip with her. “If you take the two outside pieces and tug on them a little, the braid will unravel faster.”
“Oh, am I going too slow for you?” she teased, stilling her hands.
“No,” you laughed. “I’m just trying to save you some frustration. I know it can be tedious.”
“It’s not so bad. Plus, we’re already halfway done.”
“Since you’re enjoying it so much, I’m gonna call you when it’s time to take out my next set of braids.”
She laughed at that, taking a moment to finish the last few sips of her coffee.
“This is only going by so fast because I have like 12 braids. If these were box braids we'd be struggling.” you explained
“Aren't these cornrows?” she asked.
“Yeah,” you nodded. “Well, they’re called feed-ins. They're similar to cornrows, but a different technique is used to create the braid.”
"Hmm," she hummed signaling she'd heard you but you weren't sure she understood what you meant.
Before you could explain further, you felt her hand run through a section of your hair. The action caused your head to jerk backward – the mechanics of you hair wouldn't allow her to easily glide through. Her fingers were caught in your strands and she let out an “oops” as she tried to untangle them.
“Yeah, you can't just... do that.” You winced as she fumbled with your hair, trying to extricate herself without causing any harm.
“Sorry,” she said sheepishly once she got free. “Did I hurt you?”
“It’s okay. You didn’t hurt me,” you assured her, turning to look at the woman. “We’ll dentangle everything in a minute, okay?”
“Okay,” she nodded.
“Personally, I hate it, but I have a feeling you’re gonna like that part,” you winked.
“Sorry, again.” You could sense some embarrassment as she let out a nervous laugh.
“It's fine, Mel,” you smiled. “You're learning.”
“Speaking of learning, I have a question,” she said, watching you work on the last section.
“About what?”
“You said there was a difference between feed-in braids and cornrows?”
“Yeah, so with feed-ins you feed in pieces of hair as you braid. Hence the name,” you clarified. “When you do a traditional cornrow, you only add the hair at the start of the braid. Does that make sense?”
“Yeah,” she nodded. “So what’s the reason for feeding the hair in?” she asked. “Is it better than doing it the traditional way?”
“Adding the hair gradually helps the braid become thicker and longer. It’s not necessarily better, but in my opinion feed-ins because they look more natural.”
She nodded as she took the information in. “I didn’t know there was a difference.”
“Yeah, I usually don’t get them, but I decided to switch it up.”
“What made you do that?”
“For one, I was tired of sitting down for a million hours.” You weren’t joking, but Melissa laughed at your exaggeration. “But I also just wanted to try something new.”
“You usually get box braids, right?” she asked.
You turned to face her once you were done taking the last braid out. Melissa had her chin in her palm, listening intently, and it made you smile. “Yeah, but then I saw everyone getting feed-ins with all these cute designs in them and I wanted to get them too. I’ll have to show you pictures so you can see what I’m talking about.”
“I’ve seen some of the students with them, and they have heart designs in theirs,” she shared.
“Yes, oh my gosh! Isn’t it so cute?” You tapped your hand on her thigh in excitement. “I didn’t get a design this time around, but I really want one next time.”
“Yeah, it is,” she smiled at your excitement. “I love when the girls come in with all the different color braids. Like right now Mikayla has pink and black braids. And the other day Aria came in with a haircut after she took her braids out, and she was so excited to wear her natural hair.”
“Aww, how cute!” It made you happy hearing about how the little girls at Abbott were embracing their culture. “I love how many new styles have emerged, and there’s so much versatility. Like I can truly do anything with my hair whether I have braids in or I’m wearing my natural hair.”
“I love your hair,” Melissa admired you, taking in your appearance now that you were void of your braids.
“I’m sure it looks a mess right now, but I love it too. Even though I complain about it a lot, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.” You smoothed your hand along your curls. “I think I’d cry if I woke up with straight hair one day,” you laughed.
You spent the rest of the night talking while you finished up. As you suspected, Melissa was enthralled by the detangling process. You told her your curls would be fragile since you hadn’t touched them in a couple of weeks, and she took such good care to be gentle. After you dried your hair, Melissa was in awe seeing how much longer it got. She didn’t know your hair, which stopped at your shoulders when wet, would stretch to the middle of your back when it was blow-dried. You then had to explain the concept of shrinkage to her – how as your hair dried it lost its ability to expand and be elongated. It never occurred to you that she’d be so interested in the topic of your hair, but you were happy to impart your knowledge to her. You let her ask you questions until her heart was content.
✦ ✦ ✦
The next day, you woke up with a pep in your step. You were beyond excited to go to your hair appointment. Even though you knew it would be a long one, you had been going to your stylist for years and she always knew how to keep you entertained. You could talk to her for hours, never running out of things to discuss. If you ever got bored, you could always resort to taking a nap. It was a good way to pass the time, and you got lucky because she never complained when you fell asleep.
“Someone’s very happy this morning,” Melissa commented on your demeanor. You were practically skipping around the room as you were getting prepared to leave.
“I am! And you should be too.” You placed a kiss on your lips before flitting to the other side of your room.
“Why is that?”
“Because you don’t have to hear me complain about feeling dusty anymore,” you laughed. “Now I can complain about more important things.”
“Yeah, like what? How I don’t give you enough attention?”
She chuckled as you gave her a combination of a glare and a pout. “Come here for a sec.”
You waltzed over to her, taking a seat in her lap. “What’s up?”
“Just wanted to hold you while I talked to you.” She rested her palm against your back and began to rub circles over the area.
“You’re so cute.” You leaned in to press your lips against her cheek. You felt warmth under your lips as a blush rose to her face.
She bit her lip to suppress her smile. She didn’t acknowledge your remark, instead asking, “What time are you gonna be done?”
“I’m not sure, but sometime this afternoon. I’ll text you know when I’m almost finished.” You cupped her face. “Why are you blushing?”
“I’m not,” she said even though her face was clearly red. “What do you want for dinner?”
“I don’t know. I’m not craving anything in particular.” You rested your head against her shoulder.
“Okay, I’ll see what I can do. I’m gonna go to the store while you’re gone.”
“Ooh, can you get me ice cream?” You pleaded, standing up to put your shoes on.
“So I'm your personal shopper now?” She quirked her eyebrows at you.
“Don’t be mean.” You grabbed everything you needed and made your way to the door, Melissa following close behind. “I’ll see you later. The spare key is on the hook for when you leave.”
“Okay, I should be here when you get back.” She gave you one last kiss. “See you soon.”
✦ ✦ ✦
You left the salon at 5 pm, meaning everything took around seven hours to complete. Your neck and back were sore beyond measure, and your body was dying for some food. Nonetheless, your hair was finally done and that's all that mattered. You couldn’t wait to get home to shower and eat dinner with Melissa.
When you walked through the door of your apartment, your senses were filled with the delicious smell of food that instantly made your stomach growl.
“I’m home!” you yelled.
“In the kitchen!” the redhead called back.
You walked in that direction and saw the most domestic sight you’d ever laid eyes on – Melissa in casual clothes with her hair up in a ponytail. She was sipping on a glass of wine as she monitored the pan on the stove.
“Hi, hon,” she smiled, her lips hovering over the rim of the glass.
“Hello,” you walked over to greet her, enveloping her in a hug.
“I thought you were never coming back,” she joked.
“And you say I’m dramatic,” you laughed into her neck before pulling away.
You watched as her eyes wander to your head, and you could tell that she was formulating her thoughts. She set her wine down and tilted her head slightly, drinking you in instead. “Your hair looks so good, baby.”
“Yeah?” you said, trying to be modest even though you knew you looked good.
“Yeah, give me a spin,” she requested.
You spun in a circle for her so she could get the full view, stopping your rotation once you met Melissa’s earnest gaze again.
“I like the brown. It’s very pretty,” she complimented.
You decided to get a pop of color this time. It wasn’t anything crazy, just something subtle that would catch the eye. “Thank you,” you grinned. “Is dinner almost done?”
“Yeah,” Melissa wrapped her free arm around your waist, “it’ll be ready in 30 minutes.”
You opened your mouth to speak, but you were cut off by a series of kisses: one on your temple, one on your cheek, and finally, one on your lips. “What are you doing?”
“Kissing the pretty girl. Is that okay?” she murmured.
You felt your brain go fuzzy at that and you almost forgot what you were about to say “Yeah, more than okay.”
“Mmm, good.” She continued to kiss you until you both ran out of breath.
“Someone's hungry,” She asked once she heard your stomach growl.
“Hungry is an understatement,” you laughed. “Oh, did you get my ice cream?” Your burning question finally made its way out of your head.
“Yes. I almost forgot though.”
“Thank you.” You wrapped your arms around the woman, completing your embrace.
“You don't have to thank me for that.”
“Not just for that,” you murmured into her neck. “For helping me out this weekend. I really appreciate it.”
“You don't have to thank me for that either.
“I do.” You looked up at her. “'Cause you didn't have to do it.”
“What? You thought I would let you do it all by yourself?”
You shrugged. “I mean, that's what I usually do.”
“Right, but you had me this time.” She rubbed her hand along your arm.
“You gonna help me all the time now?” You were half joking, but also curious to know what she would say.
“Yeah, that's what I'm here for.” She looked down to meet your eyes.
“Wow, you must love doing my hair.”
“More importantly, I love you.” She kissed your forehead.
“How many glasses have you had?” you asked.
“I tell you I love you and that's your response?” she laughed incredulously. “Just one.”
“I'm just checking.” You threw your hands up in defense.
“It's not the wine. It's you,” she continued to chuckle. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Melissa.”

sun in 3rd house: with the composite sun in the 3rd house, you can have open communication and feel that you connect through your minds. this position can give a good mental connection and mental understanding, but you need to work on having an emotional connection, otherwise it can struggle to go beyond a casual relationship. this can be a good placement for a friendship, where strings aren’t necessarily important, but in a romantic relationship, you have to open up about more than just your thoughts, but your feelings as well.
mercury in 3rd house: with composite mercury in the 3rd house, this is a house naturally ruled by mercury, so communication can be very easy between the two of you, and you can more comfortable express yourselves and feel you’re being understood. this can be a beneficial placement for any type of relationship. you can feel you’re understood by one another better than with other people, and it can be easier and more natural for you to talk things over and open up.

saturn in 3rd house: with composite saturn in the 3rd house, communication can be difficult, and you may not feel like you can be completely open with one another or have difficulty understanding each other. you have to focus on opening the lines of communication, and allowing one another to express yourself fully. continually working on improving your communication may be required, and without it, you just can’t see eye-to-eye.
neptune in 3rd house: with composite neptune in the 3rd house, you can struggle to understand one another intellectually, and you seem to be in a fog when you try to communicate with one another. you may imagine you’re each saying things that you aren’t saying. You have to work hard to see the logic in the relationship. you can develop an unspoken understanding between the two of you, but you need to be gentle with your words with one another.
lilith in 3rd house: you are both likely to express your rebellious and unconventional nature when it comes to the ideas you share. you can easily stimulate each other’s minds and encourage each other to break with tradition. you can support each other’s creativity and encourage each other to write or express yourselves in some unique way. your communication style also reflects your deep desires and subconscious power, and you don’t try to limit or confine each other’s messages. you can help each other find the power of your voice. you encourage each other to speak your mind and be true to your inner vision.
eros in 3rd house: a turbulent and atmospheric energy colors this relationship-something boarding upon seductive wordplay and trancelike body movements. seduction in the form of literacy and temptation. there’s often teasing and lead up to the intimacy here in this relationship and often times there’s a seemingly cold air surrounding your sexual nature to others many don’t see it while behind the screens an almost childlike and youthful sexual playground is the reality.
4th house: the composite 4th house can show how we connect emotionally, what we build together from the ground up, and what the base of our connection is (since this is the bottom of the chart).
aquarius 4th house: with the composite 4th house in aquarius, if you live together, you likely don’t want a home life that is normal or conventional at all. in a romantic relationship, you may opt not to sleep in the same bedroom (or just not live together at all!), and it’s alright. if you’re family, you may have an unusual relationship. emotional connection may be difficult to come by, and that has to be worked on in personal relationships, though there can be a base of mutual respect.
4th house ruler in 2nd house: the native’s desire to earn money may have manifested in their early childhood or was influenced by their family members. the things they value in life are often shared by their parents or family. their mother may have instilled a lot of their values in them and the native may enjoy spending money on them. the person’s home is often very important to their sense of worth and security and they may enjoy decorating and personalizing the home.
pallas in 4th house: you both work together to easily solve problems related to home and family. you may share a passion for housing issues or stand out as advocates for women, children, and families. you can both find unique solutions to housing and family issues because you see patterns and connections that others miss. through this connection you are both able to help lead others who are working on setting a solid foundation. you may stand out as an advocate who helps others find security in the midst of family crises. you may help each other find unconventional solutions to problems related to home and family conflicts as well. this relationship can help you both become more confident in pursuing your ideals and mission related to home, stability and family connections.
vesta in 4th house: you are both likely to devote yourselves to serving others through routines and habits related to home and family. you may see it as your higher mission to open your home to others in need. you may also find it is important to devote yourselves to serving and helping family. as a couple, you may see parenthood or even adopting or fostering children in need as a path to fulfilling your higher spiritual mission. you may sacrifice some aspects of your own personal desires in order to follow your higher path and provide security and comfort to each other.
5th house: the composite 5th house can show how we express affection, what we love and take pleasure in together. this house can bring creative energy into our relationships and allow us to express creatively together. the 5th house also rules children, so they can be impacted by the composite 5th house with someone you have children with.

5th house ruler in 3rd house: when it comes to communication and writing, the native may be inclined to write about romance or they may write in a manner that conveys a very dramatic energy. the native’s children may be of a gemini nature and enjoy reading or writing. there is an element of risk with the 5th House - in this 3rd House, this may be expressed as gossiping about one’s siblings or neighbors, or using short distance trips as a means to gamble.
6th house: in the composite chart, the 6th house can show how you approach daily life and the mundane together, how you work together (whether professionally or personally), and the general health of the relationship
aries 6th house: with the composite 6th house in aries, you can put a lot of energy together into the little things, the day-to-day, and getting things done. you may need lots of activity together in your daily lives, otherwise you may have difficulty with one another and can snap more easily. when something comes up in the relationship, you can take initiative together to work on it and try to make improvements.
6th house ruler in 2nd house: the native’s sense of security and self-worth is often benefited by the native having a consistent daily routine in place. if the native’s routine is for some reason disrupted the native may not feel secure or comfortable in themselves. the main purpose of their everyday job or menial work is to make income but will also serve the native’s sense of self-worth - the native is often very hard working and the job they do may even be related to finances. their co-workers may influence their self-worth quite a lot and will impact how well they generate income. when it comes to pets the native may spend quite a lot of money on them but may also be able to use their pets as a means to bring money in - above all the native’s sense of self-worth is likely to benefit from having pets. the native may spend a lot of money on their health and fitness as well as possibly preventing or curing illness. the native’s values may be shaped by their experience with illness.

content: spoilers for JJK0! Satosugu if you squint, but it's left ambiguous enough for it to be either romantic or platonic. This is just me imagining what it'd be like if Suguru got a chance to do-over for his plan on how to save humanity from its bullshit
Reformed!Suguru who, instead of dying in the alley from his fight with Yuta Okkotsu, is saved by Satoru and teleported to Shoko for healing.
Reformed!Suguru who slips away as soon as he can, knowing that Satoru will turn a blind eye, now knowing the truth of his best friend's feelings. Satoru doesn't hate him, never did, and there are mixed emotions when he turns his back on his one and only for the second time.
Reformed!Suguru who returns to his cult, back at square one. He has no curses, so he has to absorb more. His allies have taken a hit, so he needs to find more. His funds are depleted from the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, so he needs to make more. This should have been the plan that would've ended all suffering, eliminated the monkeys and given birth to a chosen people. It did not work.
Reformed!Suguru who spirals, again. He stays up even later at night, finds himself unable to play the kindly priest as convincingly to the monkeys who flock to him. The curses become hard to stomach again, no longer tempered by the ideals he had followed for the last decade. They were ideas that had proven themselves faulty with the last battle, and he has no use for them anymore.
Reformed!Suguru who thinks about Yuta's bond with Rika, and how they'd beaten him so entirely. He thinks about how he was defeated by love, and understanding, and trust. It's a disgustingly saccharine idea—but is there something worth pursuing in that thought?
Reformed!Suguru who begins to form a plan. He looks into his cult followers, finds those with connections to companies and schools and corporations. He does what he does best, plants thoughts into their heads, inspires undying loyalty to his cause, a new cause. They parrot his message back to their bosses and employees, none the wiser.
Reformed!Suguru who knows how to play the long game, and so he waits. He pulls strings now and then, as he watches the foundations of his idea start to take shape. There is an increase of counselors in schools, with mental health being taught as part of mandatory health education. Companies are being sued for unreasonable working hours, giving rise to a new wave of rules and regulations which set more realistic expectations. Corporations are investing heavily in endeavours and projects which contribute to the general public's satisfaction: parks and public spaces, consumption vouchers for elderly and those in need, elaborate festivals for the holidays.
Reformed!Suguru who starts to receive less and less requests for his help. The curses that he does swallow from the people (he doesn't know when he stopped calling them monkeys) who come to him are minor at best. It gets more difficult to find strong curses to add to his repertoire. The curse users who would've balked at this development have been dismissed long ago; those who have stayed know that all this means that everything is heading in the right direction.
Reformed!Suguru who sees a 5% drop in Japan's overall cursed energy. This comes from a 15% drop of cursed energy in Tokyo, the place he'd chosen as the guinea pig for his plan.
Reformed!Suguru who decides it's time to find his best friend and ask for help. He shows up at Satoru's apartment, not wearing monk robes but casual clothing, a loose sweater and jeans. He's tied his hair back into a bun for old time's sake, hoping it'll score him some brownie points, make Satoru more amicable to the data in the stack of paperwork he's holding.
Reformed!Suguru who stands behind Satoru as the man fights for Suguru's death penalty to be taken off him. Suguru is afraid that he's just walked himself into his own death. But miraculously, the higher ups deem the results of Suguru's implementations to be valuable, letting him live in exchange for his services. Satoru still pushes for Suguru's absolute freedom, threatens to Hollow Purple them and spark a mutiny. No one can defend themselves against Gojo Satoru, not really, and Suguru is a free man.
Reformed!Suguru who hears Satoru say to him, "we're the strongest," for the first time in a decade, and believes it.
Reformed!Suguru who takes up the position of counselor at Jujutsu High. The students are slow to warm up to him, both because he'd been a former enemy, and the thought of talking about their feelings makes them squirm. But Suguru is a patient man, and nothing if not persistent. He knows how isolating being a jujutsu sorcerer can be, went through it firsthand. He's determined to change the rhetoric around emotions within their line of work; he doesn't want this future generation to lose themselves or anyone else.
Reformed!Suguru who is the first person that Itadori Yuji meets after Satoru recruits him. It's him who asks Yuji why he fights, picks apart the boy's mind with thoughtfulness and compassion. When Yuji tells Masamichi Yaga his reasons for being a sorcerer, the principal deems it as satisfactory.
Reformed!Suguru who is convinced—yes, he thinks to himself, this is how we'll make things right.

MPs laud Princess of Wales's 'crucial' early years campaigning
Politicians will this week launch an inquiry into early years education examining the quality and affordability of childcare.
The Princess of Wales's work highlighting the early years of childhood has been praised as MPs prepare to launch an inquiry into the state of childcare.
The education select committee will this week announce an inquiry into early years education, which will examine the quality and affordability of childcare.
It comes after the Princess recently wrote for The Telegraph saying "not enough is being done" to nurture the next generation.
She vowed to "shine a light on this issue and to do everything I can to secure much greater focus on those first crucial few years for the youngest members of our society".
The Princess has undertaken a series of campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of early childhood, with a regular programme of engagements designed to boost the sector.
'Crucially important'
Robin Walker, the chair of the education committee, told The Telegraph that her involvement was "extremely welcome".
"The work that the Princess has been doing to raise the esteem and the recognition of the sector is actually crucially important," he said.
"[The sector] has an intrinsic value - it does an enormous amount of good for society, and making sure that we can celebrate that and recognise it is important."
He added: "One of the valuable things that the Royal family are able to do in the UK is draw attention to cross-cutting issues like this in a non-political way, but also to recognise the incredible work that goes on across the sector... it is extremely welcome that she has taken that interest."
Mr Walker, who took over as chairman of the education committee last month, said the need for an inquiry had gained extra urgency because of the "post-Covid environment" and the "concern around the school readiness and the social challenges that children have had in terms of living in isolated homes".
The inquiry will look at the "coherence" of the current childcare system, including the fact that parents are currently missing out on billions of unclaimed tax-free childcare.
It will explore how the lack of affordable childcare prevents many mothers from returning to work even though they would like to.
"With the right support and the right investment from Government, there is a hope for helping many more of those people to work effectively," Mr Walker said.
Recruitment and retention of early years professionals will be another focus.
"Even though the Government doesn't run the sector in the same way as it does for primary and secondary education, I think there’s a very strong case for more to be done around workforce planning, retention, and raising the esteem of the early years professionals who work in the childcare, early years and nursery sector," Mr Walker said.
"I speak to nurseries, they will complain about losing staff to supermarkets and to other areas."
'Save a fortune'
The Princess has previously spoken about how problems such as homelessness, addiction and mental poor health are often grounded in a difficult childhood, and Mr Walker agreed that strengthening early years provision could deliver substantial long term savings.
"Making sure that we have support for the right therapies that can help for instance children with speech and language difficulties... if you can find those right supports and bring them in early enough, you actually save a fortune for the education system in the long run," he said.
"As a country, if we look at ourselves in comparison to many others, we have an earlier school starting age than many countries, and yet the overall outcomes don’t seem to be significantly better or different from doing that."
He added: "I don’t think we can necessarily look to the school system for the whole solution to that. I think we need to look beyond it, and again that’s why I think a focus on the early years, a focus on affordable and effective childcare, is really important."

Do you really think of your art history degree as useless? I'm also no longer in the museum field but it makes me so sad to hear other arth folks dismiss their own degree. I feel like I've learned so many valuable, transferrable skills and still find a way to engage with art no matter what field I'm in. (I hope this doesn't sound judgey or like pointed toward you, its just something I hear a lot and I'm genuinely curious about what others experiences have been like!)
I really regret it. It's actually the only thing in life I regret. Every day I would come home from grad school crying because I wanted to quit but I couldn't because it would have wasted so much money. My program was awful in grad school. It was not at all what they said it was going to be. I ended up taking literally the same exact class twice because they didn't have any professors/classes - it was so poorly planned they told us we only needed to do 1.5 years instead of 2 because they couldn't find anyone to teach us. It cleared out my savings & then when I graduated I ended up making less money with less hours at the museums that I had already worked at before. I loved working at museums before my MA. I was so passionate. I worked in the education department. My area of expertise was Surrealism. I loved it - and grad school took every little joy I had and squashed it and left me so depressed - in ways that I'm still recovering after 5? years.
It absolutely could have just been the school I went to - I'm not saying this is a universal experience. I really wish I would have loved it. - I loved my undergrad. My BA in art history 100% worth it. amazing professors, they had so many connections to museums and I got a few internships and jobs they really wanted us to grow and learn.

The Biden administration is launching a beta website for its new income-driven student loan repayment plan today, officials told CNN, allowing borrowers to begin submitting applications for the program as federal student loan payments are set to resume in October.
The SAVE, or Saving on a Valuable Education, plan was finalized after the Supreme Court struck down President Joe Biden’s student debt forgiveness initiative in June. It marks a significant change to the federal student loan system that could lower monthly loan payments for some borrowers and reduce the amount they pay back over the lifetime of their loans.
“Part of the President’s overall commitment is to improve the student loan system and reduce the burden of student loan debt on American families,” a senior administration official said, previewing the beta website first to CNN. “The SAVE plan is a big part of that. It is important in this moment as borrowers are getting ready to return to repayment.”
Federal student loan borrowers can access the beta website at https://studentaid.gov/idr/. The enrollment process is estimated to take 10 minutes, and many sections can be automatically populated with information the government has on hand, including tax returns from the IRS, administration officials said.
Borrowers will only need to apply one time, not yearly as past systems require, which officials said would make this plan “much easier to use.” Users will receive a confirmation email once the application is submitted, and the approval process, which can be tracked online, is expected to take a few weeks.
Those already enrolled in the federal government’s REPAYE, or Revised Pay As You Earn, income-driven repayment plan will be automatically switched to the new plan.
The full website launch will occur in August, and applications submitted during the beta period will not need to be resubmitted. The beta period will allow the Department of Education to monitor site performance in real time to identify any issues, and the site may be paused to make any necessary updates, officials said.
The SAVE plan, which applies to current and future federal student loan borrowers, will determine payments based on income and family size, and some monthly payments will be as small as $0. The income threshold to qualify for $0 payments has been increased from 150% to 225% of federal poverty guidelines, which translates to an annual income of $32,805 for a single borrower or $67,500 for a family of four. The Education Department estimates this means more than 1 million additional borrowers will qualify for $0 payments under the plan.
Some borrowers could have their payments cut in half when the program is in full effect next year and see their remaining debt canceled after making at least 10 years of payments, a significant change from previous plans.
With the new plan, unpaid interest will not accrue if a borrower makes their full monthly payments.
But the new plan does come at a cost to the federal government. Estimates of the program’s expense have varied depending on how many borrowers sign up for the new plan, but they range from $138 billion to $361 billion over 10 years. By comparison, Biden’s student loan forgiveness program was expected to cost about $400 billion.
The Education Department has created similar income-driven repayment plans in the past and has not faced a successful legal challenge, officials noted.
The beta site launch comes as borrowers will need to begin making federal student loan payments again in October after a pause of more than three years because of the pandemic.
Since the Supreme Court struck down Biden’s effort to cancel up to $20,000 of student debt for millions of borrowers, the administration has taken a number of steps aimed at helping federal student loan borrowers in other ways.
Earlier this month, the Education Department announced that 804,000 borrowers will have their student debt wiped away – about $39 billion worth of debt – after fixes that more accurately count qualified monthly payments under existing income-driven repayment plans.

Wealth Indicators in the Birth Chart
It’s ~officially~ Taurus Season, which makes it the perfect time to start talking about money, finances, wealth and prosperity. (Especially since 2024 Taurus Season is loaded with key dates for maximizing your worth and manifesting some serious cash.)
Do you ever wonder why some people seem to effortlessly attract abundance and prosperity into their lives while others struggle to make ends meet? The answer may lie in the stars – more specifically, in your birth chart. Astrology offers invaluable insights into your financial potential, revealing key indicators and markers that can guide us towards greater wealth and prosperity.
Tumblr media
The Money Planets: Jupiter and Venus
In astrology, Jupiter and Venus are often referred to as the "money planets" due to their association with abundance, wealth, and financial success. Jupiter represents expansion, growth, and opportunities, while Venus governs money, luxury, and material possessions. The placement of these planets in your birth chart can provide clues about your financial potential and how you attract wealth into your life.
For example, individuals with Jupiter or Venus prominently placed in their birth chart, such as in the 2nd or 8th house, are likely to experience greater financial abundance and success. Additionally, positive aspects between Jupiter/Venus and other planets can further enhance one's financial prospects, indicating opportunities for growth and prosperity.
The Wealth Houses: 2nd and 8th House
In astrology, the 2nd and 8th houses are traditionally associated with money, possessions, and wealth accumulation. The 2nd house governs personal finances, earned income, and material resources, while the 8th house represents shared finances, investments, and financial partnerships.
If you have planets or significant points (such as the Sun or Moon) in these houses, you may possess a natural aptitude for managing money, building wealth, and making shrewd financial decisions. Additionally, aspects between planets in the 2nd and 8th houses can provide further insights into one's financial strengths and challenges.
The Midas Touch: Aspects and Configurations
In astrology, aspects – the angles formed between planets in the birth chart – play a crucial role in determining our financial destiny. Favorable aspects, such as trines and sextiles, indicate ease and harmony in financial matters, while challenging aspects, such as squares and oppositions, may present obstacles and challenges to overcome.
For example, individuals with a harmonious aspect between Jupiter and Venus, such as a trine or sextile, may enjoy financial windfalls, opportunities for growth, and a natural ability to attract wealth into their lives. Conversely, individuals with challenging aspects between these planets may need to work harder to achieve financial success, overcoming obstacles and setbacks along the way.

quirkless slave au is what when happen when society values quirks to the extreme where the more advantageous your quirk is, you're perceived as a valuable member of society and if you're quirkless?? you're useless, a burden that can serve elsewhere. the word slave is never use by the gov but the idea that when you're quirkless, you have no other use but you're indentured yourself to the state who'll trained you in all sort of skill so you can better serve society & also future 'patron'; it's slavery masked as something else.
i thought of bkdk growing up in such a harsh world where katsuki is uplifted bc he was lucky enough to be born in with a powerful quirk while izuku find himself as a tool educated and trained not for himself but for others so he better serves them, BE SOMETHING USEFUL. his self-worth is judged not solely on what he can offer and the value other places on him; like the word slavery isnt thrown around by the majority of ppl who live and benefit off this cruel hierarchical system but to those who suffered under they know the ugly, brutal truth.
izuku isnt some fiery soul, raising his fist against the injustice on him and burning it all down in the name of a revolution, but i wanted to write a story of how izuku slow, tenacious effort can change things around; this is izuku's quiet rebellion and it starts w Katsuki. katsuki doesnt who fully embraces the (slave) system but who also doesnt see anything wrong w it. if you grew up with everyone telling you having quirks is NORMAL and those who dont have it, are ABNORMAL AND INFERIOR & you benefit off from it, it's hard to see behind the truth.
it's not that katsuki is a bad person, he was born into privilege and raised on it that he doesnt see there's an inherent problem w the treatment of the quirkless but tho he doesnt cruelly mistreat them either but that kind of passive endorsement in itself is still SUPPORT of it. katsuki has no plan to buy a quirkless ever, but when he recongized that long lost childhood friend who disappeared from his life he couldnt help taking a chance on izuku bc he always wonder where did he go, what happened to him and it's that guild that plagued him.
he didnt buy izuku to SAVE him initially. he became a reluctant owner of izuku bc ya know out of guilt of how he unfairly treated izuku in the past so he wants izuku to live comfortably without worry but how can izuku be free when he's considered a chattel? katsuki's property. so katsuki is neither good or bad, just a person who benefit off a system and see nothing wrong w it until he acquired izuku who wake him up and ignite that idea in katsuki that hey, maybe that system is fucked up and the quirkless should be treated like humans like everyone else.

Bassoon Insurance for Students and Young Musicians
As a young and aspiring bassoonist, you have invested countless hours practicing, honing your craft, and developing a deep connection with your beloved instrument. Right? However, the road to becoming a seasoned bassoonist can be fraught with challenges, one of which is safeguarding your valuable asset.
In this blog, you will learn about the importance of bassoon insurance for students and young musicians, exploring the key reasons to protect your instrument, what to look for in a policy, and how to make the most of your insurance coverage.
The Value of Your Bassoon
First and foremost, it is vital to recognize the worth of your bassoon. Whether you are using a beginner model or a high-quality professional instrument, bassoons are not cheap and worth immense care. Even student models can cost several thousand dollars, while professional-grade bassoons can reach into the tens of thousands. For students and young musicians, this represents a significant financial investment, often requiring years of savings or support from parents and mentors.
Your bassoon is not merely an object. You know, it is a gateway to your musical journey and a key component of your education and career. It is important to acknowledge its value, not only in monetary terms but also in terms of the time, effort, and passion you've poured into it. Recognizing this value is the first step toward understanding the need for insurance.
What to Look for in a Bassoon Insurance Policy?
When you decide to get a dedicated bassoon insurance plan, it is crucial to choose a policy that suits your specific needs. Take a look:
Coverage amount
Determine the value of your bassoon and select a coverage amount that fully protects your investment. Keep in mind that the value of your instrument may increase as you progress in your musical journey, so consider regular appraisals to ensure accurate coverage.
Tumblr media
Premium costs
Insurance premiums can vary widely based on factors such as the value of your bassoon, your location, and the specific policy. Get quotes from different insurance providers and compare the cost against the coverage they offer. While it's essential to find a policy that fits your budget, remember that opting for the cheapest policy may not provide the necessary protection.
Deductibles
Understand the deductible, which is the amount you will need to pay out of pocket before the insurance coverage kicks in. A higher deductible often results in lower premium costs, but it also means you'll have more significant expenses if you need to make a claim.
Additional coverage
Consider whether you need additional coverage beyond standard instrument protection. Some policies offer coverage for accessories, cases, and even loss of income due to instrument damage.
Insurance provider's reputation
Choose an insurance provider with a solid reputation in the music community. Read reviews and ask fellow musicians for recommendations. A reputable provider will make the claims process smoother and provide peace of mind.
Making the Most of Your Bassoon Insurance
Once you have obtained an insurance policy, here's how you can maximize its benefits:
Document your bassoon
Take detailed photos of your bassoon, including any unique identifying marks or features. Keep copies of purchase receipts, appraisals, and any relevant paperwork. This documentation will be invaluable if you ever need to make a claim.
Regular maintenance
Proper maintenance of your bassoon is essential. Regularly servicing your instrument can prevent damage and ensure it remains in optimal playing condition. Insurance providers may require evidence of maintenance in case of a claim.
Secure storage
When your bassoon is not in use, ensure it is stored in a safe and secure location. Investing in a quality case with robust locks can provide an extra layer of protection.
Read and understand your policy
Understand the technical terms and conditions of your insurance policy. Understand what is covered and what isn't. If you have any questions or doubts in your mind, no issues. You can always get in touch with your musical instrument insurance provider to clarify.
Happy music-making!
