Do you wonder if Sakura ever cried herself to sleep thinking that Naruto and Sasuke could died while they were away and she'd never see their faces again? Their eyes Never hear their voices?
Did Shizune ever tell her how Dan and Nawaki died? Did Sakura have nightmares were Naruto and Sasuke would died the same? Where she would arrive, limbs trembling, to see Naruto's face covered by a blanket? Where she would find Sasuke too late and he'd die with her hands deep inside his chest, trying to stop the bleeding?
Do you think she ever told Naruto how it felt to have him practically dead on her arms? Did she ever cried narrating how she kept him alive? How his heart on her hand felt? How she only managed to do it because every minute of her training with Tsunade was for it? For them? To save them?
Does she look at them sometimes and wonder what if she didn't have enough chakra to help Obito bring Sasuke back? What if she had failed to summon Katsuyu? What if she had arrived too late and they'd die of blood lost from losing an arm? What if she had been stronger? Faster? Smarter?
Do you think they know how much she wishes to be enough for them? To heal their hurt?

"Ithaka by Adele Gaaras" AKA. I got Mindboggled by an Odyssey-inspired novel, get Boggled with me.
THis is just a little vent!! Do not harass this author or people who like this book! I'm not sharing this to necessarily hate on it but just wanted to share because...Mindboggle. (Also please note I have not read the book all the way through. BECAUSE OF SAID MINDBOGGLE. As I don't think it's good to "hate-read")
Also note, that the author says "it's not a version of Homer nor a retelling of the Odyssey, but a novel written under the influence of stories that I first read as a young child and that I've loved ever since."
Found this book in the "discarded" box at the library, probably should've taken that as a sign and since it was for free and no one else had taken it, I thought I'd grab it!
Tumblr media
And I got excited because the book is supposed to take place during the years Odysseus is away and it's PENELOPE'S perspective. Penelope raising Telemachus and cute toddler moments? Her, Anticlea, Laertes, (Maybe even Ctimene!) trying to cheer each other up as a family? Her ruling? So many cool things to explore!
But then I started to read and it was okay at first... But it skipped 13 years, which saddened me as, like I said, I wanted "young mother and child bonding together" But I went along with it.
But then there were other moments I didn't really care for. Weird "bad mother-in-law" Anticlea, ENOUGH WITH THAT. It happens to Demeter already! Stop it! Penelope says that she'll be a mean mother-in-law someday as well as "No one will be good enough for Telemachus" (???), Euryclea has a granddaughter who is the "main character", has AGAMEMNON be the one to put Telemachus in front of the plow >:( and a couple other moments that felt off so to see if this was "worth the read", I went ahead and went to the end as I won't lie I really wanted the "Reunion moment" 🥹
And here comes the Mindboggle.
Penelope has an affair.
She has an affair... WITH FUCKING LEODES!!!
Tumblr media
THAT'S THE GUY WHO BEGS FOR HIS LIFE BEFORE GETTING BEHEADED BY ODYSSEUS.
Honestly?? Like, I know it's supposed to be a "feminist" story. (says so on the reviews on the back) You never know with those if they're gonna villainize the male characters. I sadly was already expecting the whole "Even though text from the Odyssey states otherwise, Odysseus is clearly a womanizer"😮‍💨BUT AN AFFAIR?! WHAT IS FEMINIST ABOUT AN AFFAIR?! AND WITH LEODES?!?! WHY NOT MAKE A NEW CHARACTER?! A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON? Who's actually cool?
The worst part is? Odysseus is so fucking in love, as he should be. You would expect him to be "bad" to make her affair "okay". Especially as it kind of makes it out like he had "affairs" when it's known to someone with reading comprehension that he was SA'ed.
But he's complimenting her constantly, even as a beggar, and dotes on her and respects her. This novel ALSO makes Odysseus "nicer" and "polite" in an "I don't want to kill all these men but it's what I have to do". Which No! Let that man be PISSED. Get tf away from his wife and child! He can be an asshole and still adore his family!
This is supposed to be her introspecting during the morning after. Not explicit in any way but giving heads up anyways.
[...] she could not prevent herself from thinking of Leodes as Odysseus kissed her mouth and her hair and the soft places behind her ears. "Is this hard for you, wife? Is it strange? There's no hurry...I'll be gentle. I'll wait until..." "No,no...not strange. Kiss me again." "But you're crying..." "I can't help it. My feelings. I can't govern them, Odysseus."
(Page 354)
Like he's incredibly sweet. It makes it sadder because he's crying thinking about how much he missed her. BUT PENELOPE THINKS ABOUT HOW SHE'S CRYING BECAUSE SHE MISSES LEODES!!!
I couldn't stop thinking about Leodes. Remembering how it had been with him. And that made me cry. Odysseus didn't know. I don't think he knew. He thought the tears were for him. Tears of joy. Tears of passion. "Cry, my sweet wife. Let out all the tears that lie within you." "I'm so sorry...you deserve better than a sobbing woman after your journeyings. It will be better, I promise." "Don't say sorry. There's no need. I understand what you are feeling."
(Page 355)
Like you're taking away from Penelope AND Odysseus from something that is so fucking important to their story! HER STORY!!! The fact that they love each other so fucking much!!!
Not only that but the Father/son reunion was very lackluster.
Lots of Argos content though. :'D
LIKE?!?!!? I'm just mindboggled. I don't necessarily "hate" this book. I'm more flabbergasted as I kind of find this whole situation funny. Although I am sad as I wanted moments of her being a young mom, her being with family, her ruling. etc. I just...wanted to VENT!
Again! Don't be mean to the author or people who like this book! I just had to vent about my mind getting boggled for my sanity!

my theory on the birth order of the kids of Naruto and why it’s probably not what you think it is:
So something I've thought about a lot recently is the actual birth order of the kids in Naruto.
We don't have years for any of their birthdays, just the actual dates, so a lot of people, naturally, assume that it likely goes January to December in order when it comes to the ages of the kids and that they were all born within the same calendar year. Out of the rookie 9, this would make Shino the oldest and Hinata the youngest, with their birthdays being in January and December, respectively. This would make sense, theoretically, if you don’t really think about it too much. But, after thinking about it, I realized it's actually literally impossible for that to be the case if they all graduated the academy at the age of 12 unless their graduation took place sometime between the 27th of December and the 23rd of January.
But that is not when graduation takes place in most places in real life, and I can’t really see graduation taking place at that time in the Naruto world either. If we were to base this one when graduation takes place in Japan in real life, it would take place in late March. If we go with this timeline and the assumption that all of the rookie 9 were born in the same calendar year then Shino and likely Sakura would be 13 at the time of graduation.
And yet all of them are canonically listed as graduating at the age of 12. While this could always be an oversight and one of those ‘this detail doesn’t really matter’ type situations, I don’t think it is. Because if you do follow the timeline of an actual graduation in Japan and also consider the fact that, in any class in a normal school anywhere in real life, not every kid in the same grade is born within the same calendar year, it’s actually completely possible for them to have all graduated at the age of 12.
Children within the same school year are usually born within a year of one another, but not the calendar year. It’s different everywhere, but the cut off date is usually shortly before a new school year begins in that particular location.
The school year in Japan begins in April, so any children born before April would typically be in the previous year’s class. If school their very first year started in April then Shino and Sakura would have been a grade above the others due to being born before the cut off date of the previous year. Since that is not the case, I have to assume that, instead, they were born shortly before the cut off date for the class they are in.
Sakura’s birthday is March 28th, so it is possible for her to have just turned 12 at the time of graduation, making her the youngest of the rookie 9, not Hinata.
Choji is born in May, so he would be too young to be in the previous class but be among the oldest kids in his class, making him the oldest of the rookie 9, not Shino.
Which would make the age order:
Choji, Kiba, Sasuke, Shikamaru, Ino, Naruto, Hinata, Shino, Sakura.
and not:
Shino, Sakura, Choji, Kiba, Sasuke, Shikamaru, Ino, Naruto, Hinata.
like most people tend to assume.
The only characters out of the rookie 9 who would really be affected by this are Shino and Sakura, but, as someone who consumes a lot of content with Shino, since he’s my favorite, it’s something I have thought about a lot because I see people quite often refer to him being the oldest. While this could still be true if there is actually a case of ‘not putting much thought into it’ taking place here, I see no reason to think it is given this theory which I have had for a long time.
While none of the rest of the rookie 9 are exactly affected by this, several other characters are. Gaara’s birthday is technically first chronologically, being January 19th, several days before Shino’s. This, if we went back to assuming their ages were in order when it came to the calendar year, would make him the oldest out of the kids their age (so, leaving out Team Guy and Kankurou and Temari). This would also set him as being 13 when we meet him, not 12. But he is also specified to be 12. But if he is also born the year after most of the others alongside Shino and Sakura, then he would be 12 when we meet him during the Chunin exams which start on July 1st.
In regards to even more characters who are affected by this, we have Team Guy. They are all supposed to be 13 when we meet them and are all also listed as graduating the academy at the age of 12. Like Sakura, Tenten’s birthday is in March. If we went with the ‘everyone in one class is born in the same calendar year’ theory here, their birth order would be Tenten, Neji, Lee. If this was the case then Tenten would have to be 14 when we meet her, rather than 13. The only way she could be 13 is if she was born in the next year, which would make her younger than Gaara and Shino, which is obviously not the case.
If we went with the timeline that makes sense for them to graduate at 12, it would be Neji, Lee, Tenten. Tenten, like Sakura, would turn 12 shortly before her graduation. Neji would turn 14 during the Chunin exams, but, given his birthday, that would be the case regardless.
I’ve seen people talk about the timeline of Naruto and also come to the conclusion that graduation takes place in March just like in real life Japanese schools, but the majority of them never seem to consider what this means for the characters’ graduation ages. I’ve only seen one person ever have this same theory about the kids’ birth order before, but it was on a Sakura stan twitter account and didn’t seem to get much attention. I doubt this will either, but I needed to make my thoughts on this known. I tend to get obsessed with little details like this especially when it affects my favorite characters, so I just wanted other people to hear this theory.
If you have any details or thoughts that either add to or even poke holes in this theory, feel free to share, but I just thought it was very interesting and wanted to share and also see if anyone agrees with me now after having all of this pointed out like this!

Why NejiTen should be canon
Before I say anything, I can recognise that NejiTen is not canon, although I want it to be lol. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, so I ask that you respect mine, and if you want to challenge it, you can *politely* do that in the comments.
The major countering ships to NejiTen are: NejiHina and LeeTen, so I will talk you through why these ships don't work out.
First with LeeTen (because I don't want you quitting after the drama of NejiHina). Lee and Tenten are seen as very close throughout the series, though Tenten makes it clear that she finds Lee annoying and hot-blooded. This is the opposite to Neji, who Tenten seems to admire a lot, since she liked to train with him, and even put on lipstick in the manga for his chūnin exam finals. They seem like the perfect best friend duo, in my opinion. Romance doesn't need to be involved in every since best friend duo, there are enough of them already. In the Boruto series, Lee is seen with his son, Metal Lee. Many think that Tenten is the mother, due to the eye shape, and I think she could easily be. I mean, she's the only kunoichi in Konoha in the same age group as Lee (I think, I haven't fact checked yet), and the girl in his team. Tenten is probably the easiest choice for Lee's wife that Kishimoto could've made. However, if they were to be married and have had a son together, they would now be divorced. This therefore means, that if they had got married, then the relationship would not have worked out, and LeeTen would've failed. If they had not got together, then Lee would've married a different woman, and even if Lee then divorced that mystery woman, they clearly do not have mutual feelings for each other any more. They might have had feelings for each other, at different stages of their lives, but they either both grew out of their crushes or it was only one-sided to begin with.
Second. The NejiHina incident. I'm sorry, but I will have to go on for even longer than LeeTen, because some people don't understand that this ship is incest, and I'll tell you why. Excluding the fact that Neji had strong resentment towards Hinata for quite a period of time, they still wouldn't work out. Their relationship only evolved into *family* love, as confirmed by Kishimoto, just as Boruto loves Himawari, or Temari loves Gaara. What's wrong with a "big brother-little sister love"? Why must everyone make everything romantic? Neji cares deeply for his cousin, as does Hinata. She calls him 'Big Brother Neji', showing that she only sees him as her older brother. Besides, Hinata was so deeply in love with Naruto, she would've never agreed to the marriage. Moving on, a lot of people, from a range of cultures, some of which invite cousin relationships, think that Neji and Hinata getting married and producing heirs is okay. Some of them (purposely?) forget that the reason you don't have kids with your sibling is because it increases the chance of genetic defects dramatically. Although having kids with your cousin is legal (at least where I am), it still has quite a high risk. These people try and back it up by saying that the Hyūga clan would've wanted a pure Hyūga-blooded heir. Hm... Uchiha clan, anyone? Sure, this was common, but there are plenty Uchihas that are so distantly related that it would be fine to have offspring (such as Itachi and Izumi). The same could be said about the Hyūgas. Maybe Neji would've been their best option for a pure blood husband, but there would've been other choices, more people that were much further distanced in relation. I've got this far, and I haven't even mentioned another key fact: you know that Hiashi and Hizashi are twin brothers, right? Identical twins, to be exact. Lemme show you something: "Identical (i.e., monozygotic, or MZ) twins share 100 percent of their genes". You see that? It means that Hiashi and Hizashi share the same DNA. And this means that Neji and Hinata are genetically closer than cousins. They're actually genetically half-siblings. Hm. The Hyūgas are smart enough to figure out that it probably isn't the best idea to inbreed them, right? Well. That doesn't matter, because even if they overlooked all this incestuous evidence, there's this. Hinata isn't even the current heiress. If Neji survived the war, he would not have married Hinata in Boruto. If the Hyūga clan forced him to marry the heiress, and have children to keep a pure bloodline, he would've married Hanabi. Hanabi is the current heiress, so she would be the one married to Neji. Got it yet? Neji and Hinata would never have happened.
The last reason NejiTen should be canon: their chemistry. Tenten is shown to greatly admire and respect Neji, constantly calling him a genius, and she has blushed because of him in the manga several times. He believed in her abilities enough to sit under the practice dummy she was hitting with kunai. Neji comments that her fight would be interesting, showing that he thinks she is a good fighter. He is also shocked at her defeat, further proving that. In the first databook, Kishimoto confirms that Neji and Tenten trained every day for a month in preparation for Neji's chūnin match against Naruto. During this training, Neji reverse engineered and perfected the moves only reserved for the main branch of the Hyūga clan, mainly the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms and the Eight Trigrams Palms: Revolving Heaven. You should also note that while all the other contestants trained with jōnin, Neji chose to train with Tenten. "During one of their training sessions, birds are shown flying in the sky and Tenten tells him that she is exhausted and can't keep going. Neji responds that he thinks he used too much of his chakra and faints. Tenten is seen running to him and asks him if he's alright." Tenten wore a different outfit to watch Neji's match, and as I said, in the manga she also wore lipstick. After his fight with Kidomaru, Neji remembers seeing Lady Tsunade with Tenten. In the Shippuden, during Team Gai's fight with Kisame, Neji rushes to Tenten's side when she seems to struggle in the Water Prison.
Tumblr media
In the image above, it shows the two finishing each other's sentences. They can communicate with little dialogue and know what the other is thinking with only one word. Tenten winks at Neji and invites him to go to the bathhouse with her, both in the anime and the manga. Later, after Neji's death, in the manga, she expresses anger, thinks about Neji and asks why he left her. In her memory, Neji doing the "nice guy pose," which has been performed in the past by Gai, Naruto and Lee. The pose signifies that one will keep their promise until death, as Lee states to Sakura during the beginning of the Sasuke retrieval arc after Naruto does the pose and promises to her that he will get Sasuke back. Neji doing this pose before Tenten implies that he promised her something that he intended to fulfill until his death. In the anime, Tenten holds her hands in a prayer and asks why he left her as she remembers Neji doing this "nice guy pose" to her, then she walks away crying and says that she's never going to forgive him. The implied promise that Neji made to her is not known, but it was significant enough for Neji, who tends to be stoic and serious, to use the cheerful and significant pose his "hot-blooded" sensei and teammate have used in the past. When caught in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Tenten dreams of more mature versions of Lee and Gai as well as Neji being alive and by her side. She's the only person whose Tsukuyomi dream involves not only Neji being alive, but being with him.
They are shown constantly beside one another throughout the entire story, similar to the couples Asuma and Kurenai, and Shikamaru and Temari. While Neji is very formal and strict, he is shown to be comfortable around Tenten. He isn't shown to mind when she teases him or winks at him. He is also rarely portrayed as a character who apologizes to anyone, but he is shown apologizing to Tenten. In both the manga and anime, birds are present during the scenes where Neji and Tenten are shown alone together. In the manga, the only male character Tenten is shown alone with is Neji.
Other Trivia include:
Tenten's name and Neji's themes compliment each other. "Tenten" literally translates to "heaven heaven" in Chinese, while "Hyūga" translates to "place in heaven." In the new Chūnin Exams arc, Neji is shown holding two heaven scrolls with the characters 天天
Tenten's weapons shop in Boruto is named 忍具転転転, which directly translates to "Ninja Tools Turn Turn Turn." Furthermore, the characters "具転転" in the name translate to "revolving." Thus, the name of Tenten's weapons shop can be a reference to one of Neji's primary moves, Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven.
During the blank period, Tenten wears a uniform that includes a dress with a flame pattern similar to the flame in the Hyūga clan's emblem.
Neji and Tenten are depicted as compatible: the Databooks reveal that Neji is a Cancer and Tenten is a Pisces. In Western astrology, Cancer and Pisces are considered a compatible and harmonious pairing. The Databooks list Neji's blood type as O and Tenten's blood type as B. The blood type personality theory popular in Japan considers O and B blood types romantically compatible.
Neji, during his death, is portrayed as a Phoenix on fire. In the anime, Tenten utilizes the moves "Twin Rising Dragons" and "Exploding Dragon Strike." In Chinese folklore, the Phoenix and Dragon pair symbolize perfect harmony and balance between yin (Phoenix) and yang (Dragon).
Among the Konoha 11, Neji and Tenten were the only ones who were 18 years old during the Shinobi war, whereas Naruto and Hinata were 16 years old and the rest were 17.
Neji and Tenten share the same hairstyles as Hashirama Senju and his wife Mito Uzumaki.

Memento Mori
May 9th, Day 1: Victory/Defeat @sandsibweek
The moment Temari hears from Gaara that Asuma has been killed in a battle against two Akatsuki members, she rushes to Konohagakure on foot and makes her way to the Nara compound with some half-baked directions from local villagers. She’s exhausted, sweaty, and in desperate need of food and a shower by the time she gets there, but she knows now isn’t the time to relax, so she doesn’t. Instead, she knocks on Shikamaru’s door and tries to keep a straight face when he answers.
“Temari, what are you doing here?” Shikamaru questions like he normally would, but upon taking a closer look at him, Temari can tell he’s defeated.
Shikamaru has bags under his eyes unlike any Temari has seen before. His face is pale and ashy but simultaneously covered in tear streaks. While Shikamaru’s hair is tied up, it’s matted and Temari can just tell it hasn’t been brushed in days. To top it all off, instead of being in his standard uniform, Shikamaru is in nothing but pajama pants.
“I came as soon as I heard,” Temari explains.
“Heard about w-?” Shikamaru starts, but then he stops. A morbid look of realization washes over his face. As he sighs, Temari notices that he reeks of cigarette smoke. “Oh, you mean Asuma. Why do you care?”
It’s an awkward question to answer. Temari cares because she cares about Shikamaru. The ravenette was much closer to his sensei than Temari ever was to hers, she could tell by hearing how Shikamaru talked about Asuma or by how the two would interact when she was in town for work. Asuma’s death must be crushing him, but Temari has never had to comfort Shikamaru like this. Though they’re friends, they’re mostly comrades, only together because of their jobs. Now, Temari is here of her own free will and unsure of how to express that she’s only here because of her love for the man in front of her.
“I… Well, I wanted to make sure you were alright.”
“Again, why do you care? It has nothing to do with you.”
“I know you’re hurting,” Temari sighs. She’s tempted to yell at him for talking to her so rudely when she came all the way from Suna to comfort him, but he’s grieving right now. Temari has grieved many more times than Shikamaru has, and she knows it turns people into the nastiest versions of themselves. Yelling won’t work, nor will sarcasm or violence or anything else that she would normally use to communicate with Shikamaru. So, she forces herself to calm down, crosses her arms, and finishes her sentence. They don’t meet each other’s eyes. “But don’t pretend we aren’t friends.”
“Look, you have more important things to worry about and I already have plenty of people mother-henning me since Asuma was killed. I don’t need another, so just go home,” Shikamaru hisses and moves to close the front door, but before he can, Temari unsheathes her fan to stick it between the wooden door and its frame.
“I’m not leaving,” Temari insists despite the glare that Shikamaru shoots in her direction. “Even if I didn’t come here for you, Gaara sent me personally to pay respects to your sensei on behalf of Sunagakure. Asuma was a fine Jonin who did a lot of work that benefited both of our villages, so it’s only appropriate.”
“I guess it’s non-negotiable, then. Come on inside,” Shikamaru huffs and opens the door. Temari looks past him and into the house; it’s nice, large with dark wooden floors and rustic decor that her own parents would’ve enjoyed back when they were alive. Taking the open door as an invitation, Temari puts her fan away and walks into the Nara compound. Shikamaru shuts the door behind her. “Since the village is in disarray right now, you should probably stay here. We have an extra room. Hell, my mom’s making ramen right now, you interested? She always has extra for a friend.”
“Oh… Sure, I guess. Why not?” Temari nods, a little unsure.
She hasn’t had a dinner with a family, let alone her own, since before Gaara was born. Even back then, it was rare because of her father’s work. The memories are so blurry now that she’s not even sure they’re real. Part of her is jealous that Shikamaru gets to have this nice compound in the middle of nature with his normal, loving parents, but part of her is happy for him too. It’s good that he has the support during this trying time that she never got to.
Moments later, a man who she assumes to be Shikamaru’s dad (based on the identical hair, eyes, and face shape) walks from the kitchen to the living room, which is connected to the entryway that she and Shikamaru are currently standing in. He’s wearing a coat made of deerskin and gloves, and his face is covered in scars.
“Shikamaru, who’s this?” The tall, lanky Nara asks. “I didn’t know we were having a guest today, I would’ve cleaned up a bit.”
Temari looks around. The house is already fucking spotless.
“Dad, this is Temari, and Temari, this is my dad; Shikaku Nara,” Shikamaru introduces them.
“Shikamaru, is this that sand village girl you’ve been talking about?” Temari hears a woman’s voice, followed by said woman popping out of the kitchen much like Shikaku did moments before. Shikamaru’s mom is on the smaller side with long black hair and eyes that are the same color but a different shape than Shikamaru’s. “I’m so glad you finally brought her home, and to think I was getting scared you’d never bring a girl to meet us!”
Temari blushes, to which Shikamaru sighs.
“And that’s my mom, Yoshino Nara.”
“Dinner will be ready soon, why don’t you two go hang out for a bit while we finish cooking in here?” Yoshino offers.
“Okay, just let us know when dinner’s ready,” Shikamaru says, and then, he’s turning and walking down one of the few hallways connected to the living room.
Temari follows. They pass what looks like Shikamaru’s room with a shogi board set out in the middle. The board’s pieces are scattered about like Shikamaru was playing a game with someone that got interrupted.
“Shikamaru, how about a game of shogi?” Temari offers, knowing that it’s one of Shikamaru’s most enjoyed hobbies aside from watching clouds and spending time with his teammates. “It could help clear your mind.”
“No, I… That set up, it’s from the last game Asuma and I played. He had lunch with my family and I, and after that, we started this game but got called to a mission in the middle of it. I hadn’t had the time to reset it, but now… I can’t bring myself to. It’s one of the only things that I have left of him,” Shikamaru confesses. Temari’s stomach drops. Sure, she had no way of knowing, but now she feels bad for even asking about it… Not that Shikamaru wasn’t already thinking about Asuma, anyway. The two walk into the room, and Temari can’t help but stare down at the dusty shogi board. She thinks about how, just weeks before, Asuma and Shikamaru were casually playing, unaware of the fate that awaited them. When Shikamaru eventually cleans up the board and moves the pieces to their starting positions, Asuma’s dust-set fingerprints will be gone forever. “Proof that he was alive.”
“Shikamaru… It’s collecting dust.”
“I know, it was from a while ago,” Shikamaru stares down at the board just as Temari was moments before. There’s longing in his eyes, yearning for the world they lived in where Asuma was still alive. Such a short time ago. “I don’t know why I even told you that.”
Temari doesn’t know what to say, so for a few seconds, she doesn’t say anything. The two of them stare at the shogi board together as the sounds of Shikaku and Yoshino happily chatting and cooking together echo in the house.
“Hey,” Temari finally speaks after what feels like eternity. She places a hand on Shikamaru’s bare shoulder and flinches when she feels just how cold it is. But, when he looks at her, she offers a smile, because she doesn’t know how else to reassure him. “It’ll be okay.”
And in a heartbeat, Shikamaru places a hand on top of hers and lets out the shaky breath he was holding.
“I know.”
Dinner that night is awkward, to say the least. Shikaku is silent for the most part, clearly able to pick up on Shikamaru’s solemn mood. Yoshino, on the other hand, is either oblivious or just really bad at handling grieving people, because she spends the entire meal excitedly asking Temari questions and trying to make smalltalk with Shikamaru when the ravenette’s clearly in a different headspace than the rest of them.
The food is good, and Shikamaru’s parents are nice if not a little weird. Then again, most ninjas are weird. At least they’re better than Temari’s father was, and at least they’re alive. Temari retreats to her guest bedroom partway through the dinner with the excuse of being exhausted from her travels, which is only half-false. Exhaustion is nothing new to her and she could handle it if she really wanted to, but hearing Shikamaru’s parents casually talk about the funeral that’s supposed to happen for Asuma tomorrow had Temari uncomfortable beyond belief.
After catching a shower and gathering her thoughts, Temari listens for noise. It seems like the Naras have finished cleaning up their dinner and gone to bed for the night, so she creeps out of her guest room and goes to knock on Shikamaru’s door. Only, the door is already open and her knock pushes it further back to reveal that no one is in the room.
Where the hell could Shikamaru be at this late at night? There’s no way Lady Tsunade gave him a mission with Asuma’s funeral being tomorrow, so he must’ve gone out on his own… But why?
Temari puts on her shoes and a raincoat before looking out into the front yard through the living room window. Shikamaru is nowhere to be seen, but his shoes are by the door. Next, she looks to the backyard, which is where she finds him; pajamas soaked through by the falling rain, hair down, sat on the grass with a doe laying by his side and her fawn curled up in his lap.
Sighing, the blonde storms out through the back door and goes to Shikamaru, who doesn’t even react to her presence. He has a limp cigarette in his mouth that’s obviously been made unusable by the rain, but regardless of that, he keeps trying to light it back to life with the silver lighter in his hand.
“Shikamaru, why are you out here?” Temari demands. “You idiot, you’re going to get sick!”
“Have you ever thought about dying?”
Shikamaru doesn’t even look at her.
“...What?”
“I said, have you ever thought about dying, Temari?”
“Well, yes. Of course I have; you’d be a fool not to in our line of work,” Temari answers, taken aback by the question. She sits next to Shikamaru on the grass even though it’s wet and uncomfortable. Thunder booms in the background. “We could die any day. Why do you ask?”
“I don’t know. Even before Asuma died, there have been these times… I’ll be lying on the grass, staring at the clouds or with my team enjoying a meal. We’ll laugh and smile and tell stories together, and I’ll find myself stopping to think ‘if I die, will I lose this forever? Is there an afterlife? If so, is it good and do I still get to enjoy the things and the people that I love so much in this life? If not, what’s the point?’. There are even moments where our hands brush and I get that spark of electricity that jolts through my skin, and I wonder if after death it’s just this empty void where I’ll never get to feel that for you again.”
Hesitantly, Shikamaru reaches out. Temari holds his hand and intertwines their fingers. The ravenette’s skin is wet and clammy. But, just as he described, the electricity is there- just as it always has been.
“No one can answer that. It’s like you’ve said to me, why would you waste brain power on things you can’t figure out? Morality isn’t a problem for you to solve, it’s a part of life,” Temari says. “I’m sorry you’ve been put in this position.”
“Why are you here?”
“What?”
“You said your brother sent you to pay respects to Asuma on behalf of your village, right? You didn’t have to see me to do any of that. You could’ve just stayed in a hotel, talked to the Hokage, gone to the funeral, and gone home, but instead… You rushed to my side. Why?”
Temari debates on how to answer. She wants to lie, to stay guarded like she’s used to doing, but she knows that to get Shikamaru to open up, she has to open up a little too. So, she tells the truth.
“When my mother died, no one supported me. She was my best friend and she died, but I was stuck picking up the pieces for Kankuro and Gaara while my father worried about his duties as Kazekage,” Temari explains. She thinks to back then, to how she suddenly went from having a loving mother and a great relationship with Kankuro to feeling so alone and terrified. Even years after that, she spent most of her days worrying about whether or not Gaara would finally decide to snap and kill her up until he fought Naruto. “Then when my father died, we were all too busy putting the village back together and realigning with Konoha that I didn’t stop to think about it. Even though this is different, you deserve as many people to support you through this as you can possibly get, and… I get it. So, I rushed here. I didn’t even think about it.”
“I can’t get this cigarette to light,” Shikamaru complains, his voice cracking. Temari looks closer to see that he’s crying. There’s tears streaming down his cheeks and snot running from his nostrils. His eyes are puffy, and the sobs that come from between his chapped lips are loud and heart wrenching, but Temari can’t judge him. “No matter how many times I get the end to flicker back, the rain just keeps putting it out! I…”
“Shikamaru, that’s enough,” Temari firmly says and takes both the lighter and the cigarette from Shikamaru. The two deer get up and trot away to the forest at the back of the Nara compound as Temari pulls Shikamaru up off the ground. “Let’s get you inside.”
Temari walks Shikamaru inside, trying her best to ignore the trail of water they leave all over the nice hardwood floors. She hopes it dries well enough overnight for Shikamaru’s parents not to notice. After taking the ravenette to the bathroom, Temari goes to his room to grab him a change of clothes and a towel before joining him in the bathroom.
“I didn’t think you’d be the type of woman to take care of someone like this,” Shikamaru says as he undresses and dries himself off.
“I’m not, but you’re not just ‘someone’ to me,” Temari sighs and leans against the bathroom wall.
“This is embarrassing.”
Admittedly, the last thing Temari wants to do right now is stare at Shikamaru’s body. She’s always been curious about what his lanky form would look like underneath her much fuller one, how his delicate muscles would shift in reaction to her touches, but she’s seen him partially nude on joint missions enough times to be desensitized to it in a context like this. Plus, now that she’s running her emerald eyes over him, she thinks he’s lost weight from the stress. His collarbones are much more prominent than before, his chest appears somewhat sunken in, and she can see his top two ribs when he turns a certain way.
“Honestly, I’ve seen worse, and… You’re not bad looking.”
“Even though I’ve been bawling my eyes out for half an hour?” Shikamaru laughs as he changes into the clothes that Temari brought him, a t-shirt and loose boxers.
“Yeah, your face is only a little puffy. It’s not too bad, though you’d probably look a lot better if you slept. You’re getting bags under your eyes, and that is unsightly.”
“I know, I know, but I haven’t been able to sleep since…”
“Nightmares?”
“Nightmares.”
“Then you can sleep with me tonight,” Temari offers and grabs Shikamaru by the hand despite how his face turns strawberry red.
“But-!”
“I don’t care what it looks like or if it’s embarrassing or whatever. If you’re too prideful to reach out for help, Shikamaru, I’ll shove my way in and help you anyway,” Temari insists as they enter Shikamaru’s bedroom. They close the door and stumble through the dark to Shikamaru’s bed. While Shikamaru lies on the mattress on his back, Temari ditches her shoes, coat, and pants. “You clearly need to get some rest, and if having someone by your side will help, I really don’t care what the implication of sleeping with you is, you hear me?”
“...Yeah, I hear you.”
With that, Temari crawls in bed next to Shikamaru, who quickly turns to lay on his side and wraps his arms around Temari. She’s taken aback by the sudden touch, but she doesn’t complain as he buries his face in her chest and sighs. His whole body seems to relax.
Hesitantly, Temari wraps her arms around Shikamaru in return and asks-
“Are you okay?”
“Not yet.”
“Do you need anything?”
“No, thanks.”
“I’ll be here,” Temari says, because it’s the only way she’s figured out how to communicate her love to the man in front of her.
But, somehow, it seems like he’s already three steps ahead of her, because he responds-
“I love you, too.”
-and falls asleep.

Hi there! About the ships, I wanted to suggest: Omoi x Kankuro. It's just that when I think bout the war arc, and we know how nervous and anxious poor Omoi was, and then Kankuro gave them that motivational speech to help his comrades feel better and it probably helped motivate Omoi to keep fighting, and I just imagine him getting a crush on Kankuro afterwards, like "wow, this guy is actually super cool". I also like Kankuro with Sai for a similar reason, like that one scene where he wants to think of a nickname for Kankuro is hilarious 😂.
Other than that, I also like to imagine that the next gen Ino-Shika-Cho (Inojin, Cho-Cho and Shikadai) admire Kankuro for that reason too. Like, if Sai and Omoi ever told the kids about how they fought besides Kankuro in the war, I can imagine them like, becoming big fans of him. And Shikadai is his nephew so ofc he respects his uncle, but that admiration is probably also balanced by all the embarrassing stories Tem probably tells her son bout Gaara and Kank (obviously stories from after Gaara was better and they started getting along again).
Sorry for ranting! I just wanted to propose my own rare pairs so I apologize for bothering. And by the way, I also agree that Kakagai are best canon/non-canon couple. Like they're married fr in Boruto, no one can change my mind bout that.
Never apologize for showing your ships some love! That’s the fun of having ships, is to be able to gush about them and talk all about why you love them.
I do love the thought of Kankuro inspiring Omoi to keep pushing forward and have some confidence in himself. Kankuro is a very confident (downright cocky at times) shinobi and he’s more than happy to remind people of their skills. He has been a solid support for Gaara during his journey to change.
And Sai always needs some more love. Poor boy doesn’t have nearly enough ships he’s so adorable and trying so hard to fit in. Kankuro has seen that struggle first hand with Gaara (and probably had a but of it himself as the Kazekage’s son and then the new Kazekage’s brother) so he’d make a great fit with Sai. Plus his eccentric personality really fits well with Sai’s more chill personality
And thank you! Kakagai are my bestest boys i love them so much 🥰🥰🥰

this is legitimately one of my top five favorite kakashi scenes.
i love seeing kakashi break the rules in the name of doing the right thing, and this scene especially is particularly satisfying to me, because his moment of defiance here is, to my mind, long overdue.
one of my eternal frustrations in early naruto is how the leaf village administration gives kakashi the job of caring for a group of super high-needs children and then continually makes that job as difficult for him as possible.  they task him with being solely responsible for the development and well-being of three twelve year-olds - a group that includes naruto (a walking disaster with a god’s power trapped inside his body) and sasuke (a genocide survivor fixated on killing his own brother), BOTH of whom are being hunted by different groups of supercriminals - and then the village keeps getting in kakashi’s way or dropping the ball or actively ordering him to prioritize other things.
so much of what goes wrong with the kids in this period is the result of other people interfering with kakashi’s work or being negligent or endangering the kids/putting kakashi in impossible positions.  team 7’s first big mission sets the tone for everything that comes after, with someone else’s lie putting kakashi in a situation where he has to single-handedly protect not just the client who deceived him, but the three children who were supposed to be the clients’ other protectors.  and after that, the list just multiplies:
ten anbu operatives can’t manage to protect sasuke’s hospital room from orochimaru’s minions, so kakashi has to do it himself and then whisk sasuke out of the village for a month, leaving naruto in the hands of a substitute and sakura with her parents
genma orders sasuke to chase after gaara when the chunin exams blow up, saying “you’re at chunin level already,” which forces kakashi to immediately dispatch more kids to bring him back, because “ffs NO i do NOT want him out there doing that why the fuck would you tell him to do that?!”
aoba runs his mouth off about itachi when sasuke is standing RIGHT THERE, instantly undoing all the work kakashi just did to prevent itachi and sasuke from coming anywhere near each other (and thus sending sasuke to that disastrous first encounter, the outcome of which ultimately leads to sasuke’s defection)
jiraiya decides he should let sasuke try to fight itachi himself, “out of respect for the boy’s feelings,” leading to sasuke ending up in a tsukuyomi coma
tsunade orders kakashi to drop his teaching work and leave the village on a mission even though a) he’s just gotten out of his own torture-induced coma and b) sasuke is having a crisis that kakashi is trying to manage
and then when kakashi gets back from that mission and finds out that surprise, all of this meddling has led to a disaster, tsunade tries to order him away AGAIN
but this time - he just says no.
he walks right out of her office.  he turns his back on her.  and there is NOTHING i love more than seeing kakashi embody the philosophy that he’s chosen to adopt as his guiding light: those who break the rules are scum.  but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum.
it’s not that he doesn’t understand where tsunade is coming from here.  but he knows she’s wrong.  she’s making her decisions based solely on concerns about the Leaf Village being in a tight spot - feeling like they can’t turn down missions because they’ll appear weak and thus become vulnerable to attack when they’re already operating at half strength.  she sends a group of twelve year-olds to bring sasuke back because supposedly the village can’t spare anyone else, “even if it means letting the sharingan fall into orochimaru’s hands” - but like.  it’s not the sharingan.  it’s a child.  sasuke isn’t just a repository for his hereditary jutsu; he’s not a pair of eyes to be passed around from one wielder to the next.  he’s a human child.
tsunade doesn’t know sasuke.  she’s new to the situation and doesn’t know enough about it to understand how serious it is.  i don’t even think she was still in the village when the uchiha massacre occurred; the timeline makes it sound like she left long before that.  she doesn’t really understand who sasuke is or how much trouble he’s in - she makes her decision because she feels like her first priority has to be the well-being of the Leaf as a whole, not the individual people who comprise it.  kakashi, though, who a) lives his life by a very different philosophy and b) does understand sasuke’s situation, would not have dealt with the issue like this, and if the village had let him do his job from the beginning, things wouldn’t have gotten to this point in the first place.
kakashi is horrified that tsunade sent a bunch of twelve year-olds out to fight orochimaru’s ninja, and i think he’s also probably angry and/or frustrated about having been ordered out of the village in the first place.  he was dealing with the situation before tsunade sent him away.  he interrupted the fight between sasuke and naruto even though he himself had literally just gotten out of the hospital, and then he continued addressing the issue with sasuke privately (unlike jiraiya’s non-attempt to address it with naruto, when he said he was going to give naruto a talking-to but actually flaked out).  kakashi knew sasuke was struggling, and he was doing all the things a teacher is supposed to do to address it, but then he was ordered away, and even though it was just for two days, it was enough time for everything to go to hell.
if people would just let him do his job - if the administration would let him focus on the task they themselves assigned to him - things would be different.  but everybody wants him to do everything.  they want him to be everywhere.  they want him to protect the nine-tails jinchuriki (who is also kakashi’s dead teacher’s son), and train the last surviving uchiha (which is a task only kakashi and his sharingan can perform), and give equal attention to a third kid, for good measure, and they want him to do it without stepping away from any of his other burdens, all while other people around him constantly frustrate the progress he makes.
so this time, when tsunade tries to send him away, he refuses.  he disobeys her orders and walks out of the room.  he doesn’t care about the rules or what he’s “legally” obligated to do.  he knows what the RIGHT thing to do is, and so he rejects his new mission in favor of rescuing the kids.
i love these moments.  i love when we’re shown so clearly the person kakashi has chosen to be - someone who does what’s right, not just what he’s told.  he made an active choice many years ago to adopt that philosophy, and he’s been living by those new rules ever since.  he's wiser now than he was when he was a child - sometimes you have to break ranks to do the right thing.  sometimes you have to buck the system, even if it means you might face severe personal consequences.
he had one of two choices: either save the mission or his comrades.  of course, according to the law of the village, you cannot abandon a mission.  but to save the life of his comrades, he put the mission on hold.
kakashi may have spent a good chunk of his childhood trying to reject everything the subject of that story stood for, but none of his attempts to harden his heart ever stuck.  he is, in the end, his father’s son.

Why do you think Sasuke loved Naruto so much? They saw each other at the age 8 but never interacted until they became a team. Even as a team they spend not a lot of time together. Why is it so hard for Sasuke to break his bond with Naruto but not with Sakura and Kakashi?
Why Sasuke loved Naruto so much??
This is the very first question I got after watching VoTE1 for the first time. Well, not exactly this same question... Because I never shipped them at this point. I was like, ‘What did Naruto do for you to claim him as your Closest Friend?’
Like Why??? It was easier for him to leave Sakura and was never shown to have any pain whereas with Naruto, why did he look so devastated???
What did Naruto do for Sasuke to warrant such a strong emotion???  All we have to do is to backtrack and find the incident about why he has such strong feelings towards Naruto.
Before that, let see what each Team 7 member did for Sasuke individually.
What did Naruto do for Sasuke?
Tumblr media
This is one of the significant moment for both of these boys when they were around age 8. Both found that each other were Lonely due to varying circumstances and just smile at each other to acknowledge their existence.
I would say, this is very important for Naruto than it is for Sasuke.
Why??
Someone smiling at Sasuke is not a new thing... Basically every Jack and Jill in his Class gave him the utmost attention and probably smiled at him. But for Naruto... It’s extremely valuable. Still, Sasuke also considers this as something important.... Which means he was extremely glad that he found Naruto at that time and got this faint feeling that he was not alone!!!
Tumblr media
In the Forest of the Death, Naruto strengthened Sasuke's mental resolve when they fought with Orochimaru. Naruto literally called out Sasuke for being a Coward “This coward is not the Sasuke I know”. This motivated Sasuke to fight back Orochimaru.
Tumblr media
After that, Naruto saved Sasuke from Gaara and fought with him. Although, it was not entirely a Naruto's thing because it was Sasuke’s words, “I don’t want to see any of my precious comrades die before me again” motivated Naruto to fight Gaara by unleashing Monstrous power that laid dormant inside him.
Considering all the above incidents....
Whatever Naruto did for Sasuke... All of these are just a filtered DudeBro Style friendship and nothing special. And to be honest, compared to Naruto..... Sakura and Kakashi did a lot for Sasuke in Part 1.
[[Alright!!! Don’t throw bricks at me now]]...
Let’s just put ourselves in Sasuke’s place. Oh!!! Please refrain from going into that Trauma & UCM part because that’s not the point of this post. It’s just we have to imagine that we are an Orphan who lost everything in our past.
With that being said,
What did Sakura do for Sasuke?
I really don’t want to talk about this girl in detail but I don’t want to be biased as well... I am writing this section from a Non-Shipping perspective. So, lots of SasuSaku moments will be here...
Sakura desired Sasuke for his looks and cool ‘play hard to get’ behaviour. She doesn’t have a reason why she came to like him. Probably being bullied for her ‘charming forehead’ in her childhood, somehow she got into this warped mentality that if she gets the recognition of the Popular Boy... then everyone will respect her. So, it was not an unconditional love per se. She always expected something back from him. At the same time, She never understood him what he was going through from an emotional POV or to be precise, she is not capable of understanding him.
But still, after she was grouped along with Sasuke in Team 7, She started to care about him. Well, any person would come to care about their teammates and she was no different. But since she ‘loved’ Sasuke, Sakura goes above and beyond for him while at the same time, she was seen showing scum-rated care towards Naruto.
Tumblr media
I hate to say this... But isn’t it faintly similar to how Sasuke shielded Naruto when he fought with Gaara??? No matter how shallow her love is, she didn’t shield Naruto when Lee sent him flying whereas she wanted to shield Sasuke from falling and getting injured.
Tumblr media
This is another instance where she couldn’t see Sasuke suffering from immense pain and hence she also started to cry.. After this she took both Sasuke and Naruto out of that place and took care of them by pulling an all-nighter.
Tumblr media
Sakura realized that Sasuke has changed and was going out of control because of the Cursed Seal. So, She decided to stop him from his rampage and it worked out too.
Tumblr media
“I don’t want to see you suffering anymore... To me, you are...”
So, it hurts Sakura if Sasuke was shown to be suffering from some kind of pain, eh??? She may be totally selfish here... like “If something happens to Sasuke, I would feel lonely”... But, I think in this particular moment she genuinely cared about his well-being. So, it really hurts her to see Sasuke suffer like that... [[I smell Chapter 698 here....]]
Tumblr media
A foolish act.... But a brave one for sure. She somehow wants to protect Sasuke by putting her life on the line. [[Her body moving on it’s own, huh???]]
Tumblr media
I don’t know whether to laugh at the hilarious encounter that happened after this scene or to feel bad for her. Either way, after Sasuke was knocked out by Itachi, this girl visited him daily... I doubt she ever visited Kakashi... Anyways, After Sasuke woke up, she wanted to offer food and take care of him like a good Girlfriend.
So, What I am trying to say here is that this girl cared about him more than anyone else because she loved him.... Whether her love is deep or shallow is not the point here...
If we put ourselves in Sasuke’s place, this girl did hell a lot more than what Naruto did for him personally. Since Sasuke has no one to take care of him in this way, these gestures of Sakura should have generated a curiosity or interest or spark towards this girl or in a traditional storytelling sense, he should’ve fallen in love with her.....
Because that’s how most media will bring 2 people together to fall in love. A physically and mentally wounded boy was taken care of by an angelic girl and was healed by her love and then he fell in love with her.
But Man!!!!! This is where Kishimoto started to break all the tropes by making Sasuke totally impervious to her love/care. All he said was, ‘Thank You’... And that word is a nice gesture for all the care she had shown to him so far.
[[Now, I know why SS peeps are so invested in this ship... because Sakura did many things for him romantically... they somehow got into this warped mentality that “If I do a lot of stuffs for you... then my love should be reciprocated”.... But there is this concept called ‘Unconditional Love’ which they refuse to understand]]
What did Kakashi do for Sasuke?
Tumblr media
Kakashi felt Sasuke was trembling in fear because of the murderous aura emitted by 2 Jounins and reassurred him by saying that ‘Don’t Worry!!!!I’m here to protect you’.....
Tumblr media
Kakashi helping out Sasuke to seal the Cursed Seal. This helped Sasuke to focus on preparing for the Chunin Exams One on One fight Vs Gaara rather than wallowing in pain whenever he fights using Chakra.
Tumblr media
Kakashi passed on his Ultimate Jutsu to him.... Which became one of Sasuke’s most predominant Jutsu in his arsenal... Even many of his Jutsus like Chidori Nagash, Chidori sword, Chidori senbon are all based on this Jutsu.
I am going to go ahead as call it as a Fatherly Act from Kakashi. Just like how Minato’s Rasengan was passed onto Naruto, how Fugaku taught Katon: Goukakyu no Jutsu when Sasuke was 7, Kakashi’s Chidori was passed onto Sasuke. Even databook also says that Sasuke saw Kakashi as a Parental figure.
Tumblr media
Kakashi also tried to instill some sense in Sasuke after he fought with Naruto on the Hospital Roof Top. Sasuke almost got convinced after hearing his pep talk. But then Sound Four mind-fucked Sasuke and it all spiralled out from then.
Considering all the actions from every member of Team 7.... I would say
Kakashi acted like a Parent for Sasuke at many instances.
Sakura acted like a Care-Giver and a Girl-Friend who would do anything for him.
Naruto acted like an “Hey Bro.... Yo Bro” kind of friend who helped him out of certain difficult situations from time to time.
[[If only this Sakura was Nil-Horny and cared more about Naruto.... I would’ve shipped SS, maybe.... Of Course, only if Sasuke was interested in her]]
Even looking from my SNS eyes, Naruto really didn’t do anything great or special for Sasuke to forge such a strong bond that he found it very difficult to break.
So why couldn’t he break that bond with Naruto????
Sasuke himself said it ...
When??
That moment when Sasuke sacrificed his life and Naruto asked Sasuke, “Why??? Why me??? You should’ve minded your own business”...
Tumblr media
Let’s look at each incidents from an Objective non-shipping perspective..
1. Sasuke Offering Bento to Naruto in Bell Training.
This is totally a Sasuke moment... It’s something, Naruto should ponder upon. Sasuke didn’t gain anything from it actually. It’s funny how he totally excluded Sakura out of that panel...LOL....
2. The ‘Accidental’ Kiss.
Ummm.... Why is he remembering it here if he was ‘so disgusted’ ???? Anyways, that was totally on Naruto and yet Sasuke fondly remembers it.
3. Naruto sizing up Sasuke up-close.
Seriously???? What’s so special about that scene anyway??? After Naruto Sized him up, he went on to kiss him.... Both of those incidents are connected and yet Sasuke puts it separately. Which means he liked Naruto coming up-close???
4. Competing in ‘Who Eats more’?
LOL.... It’s totally a fluff scene. Again nothing special.
5. Naruto falling down from the tree during Tree Climbing Training...
In my honest opinion, this is not even a scene worthy to remember. If I were Sasuke, I would have forgotten about it already. I would say, Kakashi reassuring the Trembling Sasuke that “I am here for you” is a much better scene to remember that this pointless one...
6. Sasuke showing-off his Rope untying skills.
A decent scene. It seems Sasuke clearly enjoyed that prank. But hey... Why is he remembering Naruto’s Prank anyway???
7. Sasuke taunting Naruto.
This scene has multiple callbacks from Naruto’s side as well. It maybe special from Naruto’s side but from Sasuke’s POV.... Naaahhh.... But he remembers it anyway.
8. Naruto’s Hokage Dream.
“Hello Mr.Sasuke, Your dream has just went down to drain.... Why are you thinking about Naruto’s Hokage dream which has nothing to do with you??”.... Weird!!!
9. Walking along with Naruto.
So, Sasuke liked to walk along with Naruto. And it was intentional. Hmmm!!!
10, Naruto stabbing his wound with his Kunai to continue the Mission.
This is actually a scene worthy to remember. Because, it shows Naruto is mentally strong and was willing to put his life on the line just to continue the mission. So, Sasuke actually admired Naruto in that scene.
11. Roasting Sakura
LOLOL.... It’s funny because when Sakura asked whether Sasuke remembered this incident when she proposed him... Sasuke said, “I don’t remember”... Whereas he remembers it here. Sakura remembers it as a scene where she spoke to Sasuke for the first time. Sasuke remembers it as the scene where he stood up for Naruto....
12. Naruto shoulder-hugging Sasuke
Hmm... A pretty good scene to remember. But not something special.
Special, I mean here, is that Naruto often remembers Iruka blocking that Kunai from Mitsuki. It is important because it played a significant role in shaping up the Naruto we saw throughout the series.
Can I simply say... None of the above scenes are special enough to remember except for that Naruto stabbing himself with Kunai?????
All the other scenes Sasuke remembered are just meaningless and If I were Sasuke, I would’ve forgotten most of it already.
Unless
If I were crushing on Naruto and remembers every random and silly moments I shared with him no matter how useless those moments were!!!!!
Man!!! Sasuke was totally Brainrot about Naruto here.
Again, Why Sasuke was only thinking about all those useless moments he shared with Naruto... While not remembering Sakura and Kakashi????
The answer lies in the panel itself.
Yes, the word Sasuke used here was....
知るかよ ... そんな こと Shiru ka yo... Son'na koto How should I know... such a thing??
“How should I know... such a thing??”
Tumblr media
体が勝手に動いちまったんだよ… Karada ga katte ni ugoichimattan da yo. My body just moved on its own…
“My Body just moved on its own”
Is there any connection between both the lines???
Of course there is.... Sasuke fails to provide the reason in both the lines. He just did it without any regrets. That’s all.
This is not the only time...
Sasuke couldn’t able to give the reason even in Chapter 698 Confession.
Tumblr media
なぜだか....安心したんだ。 Nazedaka.... Anshin shita nda. For some reason.... I felt relieved.
“For some reason”
So, Yes!!!! As I said earlier in the post, I tried to backtrack every events shared between Naruto and Sasuke in part 1 to find out the reason for “Why Sasuke couldn’t cut off his bond with Naruto even though they didn’t spend a lot of time together or to rephrase it, even though Naruto didn’t do much for Sasuke?”.....
And I really wanted to say this panel is the reason....
Tumblr media
Naruto’s behaviour of wanting to create bonds desperately, made Sasuke think about his Family. So someone giving off the family vibe may be the reason for Sasuke loving Naruto so much. And this was all happening from a distance. Like Sasuke was not even near or in friendly terms with Naruto to make him feel that way!!!
It’s just by observing Naruto, Sasuke felt the feel of his Family....
It’s just by observing Naruto, Sasuke felt the weakness seeping into him....
It’s just by observing him again and again, Sasuke started to worry about Naruto more and more...
And then, I thought what is the reason for all of this??? There must be a reason why Sasuke must be feeling this way. There’s no way someone would feel the warmth of a family just by observing a person... What’s so special about that person???
And All I found in the previous panel was
Tumblr media
Again, the same word choice,
なぜだか...気になるようになった。 Nazedaka... Ki ni naru yō ni natta. For some reason, I came to worry about you. [[I started to keep my eyes on you is a translation error]]
“For some reason”
Tumblr media
Sasuke found Naruto was also a loner just like him. Initially he thought, Naruto was a weakling who just begs for attention by pranking everyone. But then later, he found out that’s not the case... In reality, Naruto just wanted to bond with someone just like Sasuke.
This strong sense of similarity is what led Sasuke to start paying attention to Naruto and started to like him... Like he got a reason as to why he likes Naruto now.
Why Sasuke felt very easy to break his bond with Sakura and Kakashi, despite them having done so much for him as compared to Naruto???
The reason Sasuke could easily break his bonds with Kakashi and Sakura was because he saw them as his team mates with whom he could work along, care about each other, protect each other and complete the missions. It’s very similar to the bonds you create in a Work Place. It’s like we all work together to do a project and then we go home. It’s not like we will emotionally connect with every person in the Office and feel devastated when we switch to another Office.
Tumblr media
This above panel is just the basic Gist of what I mentioned above. It’s like Sasuke saying, “I liked working with you all... But I got another important Job in another Office... So, I have to leave you all”...
So, that’s why Sasuke could easily break up with Sakura and Kakashi. Because he was never invested in them emotionally. He didn’t know anything about Sakura and Kakashi or even bothered to know about them unless they tell him.
Same applies with Team Taka.
But with Naruto it’s very different. He already, unknowingly, invested his emotions in him from the day he smiled at Naruto near the Lake Pier, the day he started to worry about Naruto, the day he felt relieved on seeing Naruto.... And on the day Team 7 was formed, his emotional attachment with Naruto became even stronger which explains why Sasuke roasted Sakura for bad mouthing Naruto, even though he didn’t have to.
Even if Sakura bring the world for him, he could not feel anything for her...
And that’s why even though Naruto didn’t do anything special as compared to his other team members, Sasuke couldn’t break his bond with him because of the strong emotional attachment he already developed on Naruto way before Team 7 was formed....
And What made Sasuke to invest his emotions very strongly on Naruto???? In other words, why Sasuke loved Naruto so much???
For some reason, he started to worry about Naruto whenever he was rejected by the villagers...
For some reason, Naruto’s weakness was starting to taint him...
For some reason, Naruto reminded him of his family...
For some reason, he felt relieved on seeing Naruto...
For some reason, he felt the pain whenever Naruto was seen to be suffering...
For some reason, he thought about all the random and silly moments he shared with Naruto in his dying moment...
For some reason, his body moved on its own to protect Naruto....
No matter how much I look for it, I couldn’t find the reason. Because, in reality, Sasuke himself doesn’t have one....
He saw Naruto, felt some sense of similarity and started to like him because he was attracted towards him in an innocent way.
And after that everything he felt or did for Naruto was something that was out of his own control or reason or logic or explanation...
Even though he won’t get anything out of this bond with Naruto... Sasuke would still do everything he did for him all over again without a shred of regret...
Because his love towards Naruto is unconditional.

ok. karin vs anakin's genome being 50% the Force. go
Jesus fuck, okay. Uh, fair warning, I know very little about this subject, so it’s 90% bullshit. I am in no way qualified to talk about biology past the high school level.
Anakin's sixteen. He's part of a set of Jedi assigned to a weird mission regarding making contact with an isolated planet of near-humans with superpowers but no space travel. He doesn’t really have a Job here and now, he’s just there as Obi-Wan’s plus-one. There's an underlying plot about Sidious trying to acquire people from Ninja Land, but none of the Jedi are fully aware of it. Mostly they're distracted by all the ninjas and their bitching.
They call it the Shinobi Planet, because nobody can agree on a name for the planet when they ask and the last major international alliance was named after the shinobi profession, right? Good enough, you can change it later when you idiots can agree on literally anything, oh my god. The Samurai are very offended and it's a whole thing.
Anakin wanders a lot. He runs into various strange people and is mostly polite because, listen, half his friends are distinctly not human. When your immediate circle includes nautolans and besalisks and twi’leks and whatever the fuck Yoda is, you’re not gonna blink at a Hoshigaki or... uh... okay that kid just turned into a giant fox, is anybody gonna--no? That’s normal? Just him? Cool, cool, cool.
There’s a kage summit involved in the negotiations going on. IDK what’s being negotiated, probably something to get the ninjas to set up a singular spaceport so there’s somewhere to land WITHOUT ships being regularly shot down by village defense systems powered by that massive flaming purple skeleton warrior or the girl who punched down a mountain or the.. the literal desert? There’s a guy that can control the desert? Is there any way of keeping him away from Anakin?
(Gaara’s tickled pink that the reason someone wants to stay away from him has nothing to do with fear or respect for authority, and everything to do with ‘he is also from the desert and fucking hates it, so he’s staying away from the sand powers,’ because it’s very novel and kind of funny.)
ANYWAY where was I. Uh. Right, kage summit, lots of villages, they invite smaller villages to pitch in, but nobody ever ever ever wants Orochimaru anywhere near this situation, for hopefully obvious reasons, so Otogakure sends Karin.
Really, who else was it gonna be? Suigetsu? You want Suigetsu representing you on an interstellar political field? You want Juugo before he’s stabilized? You want Sasuke, master of ruining kage summits? You want these idiots representing you at the big kids’ table?
They send Karin. She’s a bitch with a temper, but at least she’s not as big of a political risk as... literally anyone else from the snakepit.
Anyway, Anakin wanders around, meeting people, trying foods, showing off when asked for demonstrations. He doesn’t have an Entire Protocol Droid, but he did cobble together a little floating helper that can do translations for him. Assume all translations are accurate and being done by the little helper bot. Bot’s name is G1-0T. Anakin calls it Glot.
He runs into Karin at one point, who’s not super into the whole situation, but at least Anakin’s interesting. She’s not interested in him, because he’s sixteen and she’s like... mid-twenties. And his hair is stupid. But! All these force-sensitive people feel weird to her, because sensor stuff, and it’s not chakra but it’s... something. Anakin is, of course, the weirdest.
(There are non-sensitives in the envoy, so she knows it’s not just a space thing.)
She strikes up a conversation about it, because hey, she hasn’t made it this far to not lean into... you know, being the kind of person who barges ahead with Weird Questions that might lead into fun science stuff.
Anakin is like. Well. This woman’s very strange, but it’s not like there’s anything against talking about midichlorians to random people. It’s easy enough to look up in the core. Not everyone knows about them, but it’s not a secret or anything.
“Wow,” Karin says, though not in so many words, “that sounds incredibly strange, and actually a lot like it functions completely differently from chakra, though maybe it intersects with nature chakra somehow. Can I take a blood sample?”
Anakin doesn’t want to give a blood sample to a stranger. Karin isn’t stupid enough to try to steal one. She’s seen what this Force Stuff can do, and this kid’s got a lot of it. She hasn’t got enough information on hand about it to know if he’d notice.
“How about I let you look at the blood of a guy that can turn into water?” Karin asks, because she’s not going to let him look at her blood. “I’ve got it with me.”
“...why?” Anakin asks, reasonably disturbed.
“He owes me,” she says, and does not elaborate.
“What, there’s nothing weird about your blood to share?” Anakin demands, like the ornery little bastard he is.
“People took my blood against my will for over a decade,” Karin says, with the kind of smile that threatens a stabbing. This is not secret information. Her healing factor is in the bingo book. Plenty of people still want her dead. “Nobody gets my blood except me.”
Anakin has no idea what to do with that answer. Most people wouldn’t know what to do with that answer. It’s not exactly a standard answer.
“So there is something weird about your--e chu ta what the fuck are those scars?”
Karin looks at her arm. She looks back at him. She raises an eyebrow.
“What do you think they are?”
He stares a little longer, and then very carefully does not say anything as she pushes her sleeve back down.
“So can I look at your blood?” she asks again.
“Uh--”
“You can look at mine under a microscope,” she wheedles. “You can’t take any, though.”
Anakin... does eventually agree. Eventually.
-----------
There is a very angry redhead yelling at a machine, and Anakin does not know what to do.
“Is something wr--”
“What the fuck is your blood?” she demands. “It’s glowing in ultraviolet. It burned the dye up. I tried to sequence your genome--”
“Woah, I did not agree to that.”
“--and look at this. Look at this!”
“I don’t know how to read your graphs. None of this is a language I know.”
“It’s garbage,” she hisses at him. Glot takes a few moments to process it. “Look at this. This is supposed to--fuck, where’s the Jiraiya file, he’s standard--this is what it’s supposed to look like for most humans with chakra. And this is a civilian, and a few bloodline users--”
“Do you just carry these around with you?”
“Shut up, you don’t exist. You have--you have more in common with summons than people. I ran a blood test on one of your human diplomats, the ones that aren’t monks--”
“When did they agree to that?”
“They didn’t, I’m just sneaky.”
“I should tell Obi-W--”
“STAY THERE, I’M NOT DONE YELLING YET. Do you see this? Do you see this shit? This is the one and only time I’ve managed to perform any kind of analysis on a bijuu. They don’t usually have blood. Shukaku is sand. Matatabi is literally just fire. This was almost impossible to make happen, but I did it because I’m a dedicated biomedical resea--”
“Because you’re unhinged.”
“--rcher, and you know what? You know what I’ve found?”
“What?”
“Your blood looks like you’re half demon,” she says, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking, a little wild-eyed and clearly pissed at him. “Half of it’s human! Half of it looks like the non-physical chakra manifestations that were torn-apart remnants of a godlike demon. The fuckers can’t die. They also can’t breed. They don’t have reproductive organs! This isn’t just demon-tainted like a jinchuuriki, I’ve got that analyzed--”
“Why?”
“Because my cousin’s a moron, don’t change the subject. You--you shouldn’t exist. Your blood is stupid. Fuck, is this what I’d find if I analyzed the Sage of the Six Paths?”
“The what?”
She ignores him, frowning at papers. “Is--I need to call Haruno, she might still have some of Kaguya’s blood dried on her old gloves from the war, I know she kept those as a souvenir from the whole ‘punched a god’ thing.”
“I’m sorry, the what?”
“There was a thing a few years back, godlike alien demon princess who got sealed into a moon by her sons a thousand years ago, but her immortal sentient goo child brought her back with a giant tree that consumed all the tailed beasts-the flaming fox you saw earlier is one of them--and then used a giant eyeball to reflect off the moon to put everyone in a hallucination at the same time so she could eat our life-forces,” Karin dismisses. “It’s not important.”
“There is--what?”
Jedi see many things. Many of those things are very strange.
This is a little much even for Anakin.
“It’s over, if you want the actual details, talk to my idiot cousin,” she huffs. “But now I need to run comparisons between the actual nonsense that is your entire existence and the actual nonsense that is my cousin’s existence, and maybe Sasuke’s... fuck this is going to be a mess, I’m going to have to cross-reference all the clans with bloodlines we know are derived from Kaguya, she’s the only angle we have on gods like that, unless... maybe there’s still some black Zetsu goo somewhere... Orochimaru must have kept a sample...”
“Uh, can I--can I go? I’m not comfortable here.”
“I need to find Naruto so he can call the Sage of the Six Paths out of the afterlife so I can see if I can get blood from a ghost to compare to yours.”

Fake fic titles: There will be no great music for us. Ship: Kankuro & Shisui, Theme: Theater Mishaps--Shikabane Ex Machina
A/N: Okay, first of all, love this. Love Kankurou. Love Shisui. Second of all, I’m thinking you’re probably aiming for a Gardens ‘verse type thing and a, if not canon-adjacent, then at the very least still shinobi ‘verse?
With all this in mind, and if we interpret music/theater a little more… generously… the idea that comes to mind is:
In which Oto (or more specifically, Orochimaru) is a much bigger threat, (maybe much earlier?) and Kankurou and Shisui are partnered on a very public political mission or are partnered on a mission where if they fail then it becomes very public? And then Shikako arrives.
Maybe the Kage Summit? Like, Orochimaru is an international threat and is treated as such earlier on as opposed to the other villages being like: well, he’s Konoha’s problem. Have them deal with it. And then Konoha going: well, he’s not in Konoha anymore so he’s not our problem anymore. Anyway, grander politics is not the point of this!
I’m thinking Kankurou and Shisui are their respective Kage’s guards/seconds? Which makes sense for Kankurou if its Gaara (maybe Temari or maaaaybe his dad? depending on timeline/repercussions) But for Shisui it would have to be……… Itachi maybe? Which could maybe be explained as either: 1) Danzo for some reason left Konoha—to maybe found his own village—and/or died? (Which could be the one good thing Orochimaru did before he bounced) or 2) Orochimaru was so overtly fiendish that Minato via Jiraiya brought Tsunade back earlier and she took Itachi on as an apprentice? or 3) I guess Shisui could be Minato’s guard… but that’s not as… narratively fun or 4) I mean, I could do a “the Uchiha coup succeeded” but I already implied it in still waters (run deep) and if I do that then it becomes a “Orochimaru is a threat because he’s specifically trying to steal the Sharingan” and not “Orochimaru is a threat because he’s very close to ending the world on a daily basis and ethically is bad”
I mean, maybe its not that Gaara and Itachi are Kage at this point in time, but perhaps instead of a full Kage summit, there’s a sort of “vice Kage” summit because its very difficult to make all the Kage show up in one place. So they’ll all send their respective heirs to represent them in a summit so that they can discuss what to do about various international matters: having the authority but less risk of a full political catastrophe if something happens? Which in that case, we may be able to make it Sasuke instead of Itachi? Not that it particularly matters since the focus is on Shisui anyway.
Of course, ideally, nothing would happen to the heirs either and that’s where our boys come in! And of course, those ideals must be broken in order to have dramatic storytelling.
Also, the reason why I’m trying to shoehorn this weird international political situation is because Kankurou and Shisui both having “older brothers accidentally lost younger sibling/cousin and have to go on an adventure to get them back before Real Adults find out” is hilarious to me in a world of ninja.
After all that, here’s my attempt:
~
This year’s Summit is in Waterfall which is so disgustingly muggy that Kankurou is certain Temari did this to him as punishment for mentioning her Leaf boyfriend within Father’s earshot. His warpaint is far too high quality to run, but that doesn’t matter much when he’s the one melting.
“You’re from the desert,” says Uchiha, completely and irritatingly unaffected even as they’re both racing through the rainforest. Ugh, fire chakra users. “Shouldn’t you be used to the heat?”
Kankurou sneers at him in disgust. “Dry heat is different.”
Uchiha shrugs and the tense, harried silence resumes. Good. Can’t have him thinking Kankurou is looking for conversation or friends—aren’t Uchiha supposed to be the unfriendly Leaf nin?—or for anything other than their respective misplaced little brothers.
“Cousin,” Uchiha corrects, to which Kankurou just rolls his eyes in response. Technicalities don’t matter, semantically Kankurou’s phrasing sounds better; and “misplaced” will get him in less trouble than “lost.” Hopefully.
“Misplaced” means that Kankurou doesn’t know Gaara’s current whereabouts but could easily find and retrieve said little brother with minimal effort. “Lost” implies that Kankurou… well…
“Let Orochimaru kidnap your village’s representative who you were supposed to be guarding?” Uchiha pipes in as if, one, Kankurou gave him any amount of encouragement, and two, he weren’t in the same exact boat.
“Gaara doesn’t need a bodyguard. He’s a scion of the desert,” Kankurou says, though it’s not like anyone from Leaf would know what that means.
The Uchiha blinks at him. “But isn’t it too humid here?”
Temari won’t kick Kankurou’s ass for losing their little brother if she kills him for starting a war with Leaf first.
Uchiha laughs as he dodges, both hands up in a gesture of casual apology. “Itachi is way stronger than me,” he offers as commiseration. It would be more effective coming from someone other than Shunshin no Shisui who earned a flee on sight in the bingo books at an age when Kankurou was only just granted an apprentice’s hood.
“Although I probably should have seen this coming,” Uchiha continues, like being able to predict an S-rank nukenin’s actions was at all part of the job description for being a guard at the Summit. There’s a reason why Temari calls it baby politics: the topics up for negotiation have such low stakes and are so minimal that they’re basically just make believe games. Like the chuunin exams but for prospective village leaders.
“Orochimaru has had his creepy snake eyes on Itachi since before we ran him out of the village.”
Kankurou turns a disgusted grimace his way.
“Oh, no, gross, not like that!” Uchiha protests, a matching grimace twisting his face. “Itachi was, like, eight.”
Kankurou lets his expression continue to speak for him.
“No!” Uchiha says, crossing his arms in an X shape in front of him, the idea so horrible that he would sacrifice his fighting ability to refute it. “I just mean that Itachi had already graduated and was a known prodigy! Look, I’m just saying, thank the gods Tsunade-sama decided to make him her apprentice because not even that snake bastard would want to go up against her.”
Kankurou rolls his eyes and allows it. Even in Suna this is known.
“So we really should have been more cautious, is what I meant to say,” Uchiha says, backtracking conversationally. “Since the Summit is really the only opportunity Itachi has to leave the village nowadays.”
Yeah, being successor to the Hokage or, more impressively, Leaf’s internationally acclaimed medical groundbreaker would do that to a person.
The silence creeps in, an easy end to the exchange, and Kankurou really should be focusing on following the Orochimaru’s trail…
“Temari’s going to kick my ass to Snow and back if she finds out I lost Gaara,” Kankurou says, another offer for commiseration. Father would only care if it affected Suna’s reputation.
He has to assume they’ll get their little brothers back because to think otherwise leads to a fate he doesn’t want to consider.
Uchiha, as weird a representative of his clan that he is, grins at him. “Oh, man, tell me about it. Even if I somehow survive Mikoto-ba, I’ll have to put up with Sasuke-chan swearing vengeance on me and he’s been getting better at his wire work and traps. Probably Naruto-kun’s influence. And all that’s assuming Uzume-ba doesn’t obliterate me in the Pit.”
They look at each other in agreement: no one can ever find out.
Either that or they fail to rescue their little brothers from Orochimaru and literally everyone will find out, but by that point they’ll both be dead and won’t have to deal with the consequences.
When they do find Orochimaru there is good news and bad news and plenty of both, the first being good news: they actually find Orochimaru. Bad news: he’s not alone, surrounded by a posse of brainwashed minions eccentric looking enough to be actual threats rather than fodder.
More good news: neither Gaara nor Itachi are anywhere to be seen. Also more bad news: the same exact thing.
Additional bad news: Orochimaru looks pretty pissed off. But, thankfully, matching good news: it seems to be at a random kunoichi who is more than holding her own against his posse of minions.
“Kako-san!” Uchiha says and, somehow, sparkles before jumping into the fray. Gross. But, okay, not a random kunoichi, then. More Leaf nonsense? Kankurou isn’t nearly paid enough for this.
With Uchiha and Kankurou there to finish mopping up the minions, the Leaf kunoichi focuses her attention on Orochimaru and, again, more than holds her own against him? As if that was something an unknown kunoichi could do? What? How? Why does Leaf keep churning out S-rank shinobi and why are they all so weird?
With the snake decapitated and sealed away, the brainwashed minions knocked out and tied up, introductions can be made. Not that they need to be made, apparently. “Uchiha,” she says, tone fond and contrasting with the distant simplicity of her greeting. Uchiha practically vibrates with delight.
Kankurou is embarrassed on his behalf until the kunoichi addresses him. “Kankurou,” she says, with a familiarity that he can in no way reciprocate. “What are you doing here? Waterfall is way too humid for you.”
Confused but always ready to fake it til he makes it, Kankurou responds, “You think I’m here by choice? Gaara’s been misplaced.”
The kunoichi’s eyebrows raise, amusement curling one side her mouth. Uchiha, betrayed, is staring daggers into the side of Kankurou’s head. It would be funnier if he hadn’t just seen the Sharingan in action.
“You lost Gaara?” she asks.
“He’s been misplaced,” Kankurou corrects, because this is valuable rehearsal for when he has to explain himself to Temari.
“You lost him,” she concludes, incorrectly.
“And my cousin Itachi,” Uchiha says, butting into the conversation so clumsily, Kankurou could almost forget he is one of Leaf’s obnoxiously over powered prodigies. “We thought Orochimaru had kidnapped them.”
“Hm,” the kunoichi hums before… Kankurou wouldn’t describe it as turning her attention away, so much as her attention expands for a dizzying few moments. “They’re both an hour or so that way,” she says, pointing. It’s not quite back in the direction of Waterfall Village, but close enough that the two of them must of blown past it racing after Orochimaru. It’s also a ludicrous distance for chakra sensing. Then she adds, “they don’t seem to be fighting or unconscious, but they are surrounded by other chakra signatures and very… relaxed?” Which is an impossible amount of detail to sense from this far away.
Uchiha just sparkles trustingly at her. Ugh, so embarrassing.
“Will you come with us?” He invites. Kankurou is not paid nearly enough to be a third wheel to a pair of Leaf weirdos.
Thankfully, the kunoichi shakes her head. “It seems like you’re on a time restraint, and someone should deal with these five,” she says, tilting her head to the unconscious minions. Then she says, “Maybe next time.” As if Uchiha had asked her out for a meal and not joining them in saving their little brothers and preventing international conflict. Equally bewildering, Uchiha blushes.
Leaf. Nin. Are. Weird. Why do both of his siblings like them so much?
“I’m going now,” Kankurou announces, turning away from them and heading in the direction she pointed in earlier. He literally cannot handle this much second hand embarrassment. Uchiha will follow eventually.
The travel is quiet, Uchiha no doubt daydreaming about his mortifyingly obvious crush, until Kankurou idiotically asks, “So who was that?”
What a mistake. What a truly stupid mistake. Kankurou deserves every instance of Temari calling him a dumbass.
By the time they find their little brothers—both of them soaking in a hot spring, blissfully surrounded by massive, slow blinking capybara—Kankurou knows more than he ever cared to about some random Leaf kunoichi he has never met before today and hopefully will never have to meet again because he’s sworn off all Leaf nin.
And, once Gaara has been properly bribed with a pastel orange capybara shaped stuff toy that Kankurou promises to hide inside of Sanshouo whenever Father is around, no one will ever have to know about what happened today.
Especially not Temari.

A/N: Sorry for the slow response, anon. I maybe didn’t meet the prompt or my own convoluted outline, but I am now absolutely enamored by this dynamic and hope you also enjoyed.

How would Gaara,Yugito, Yagura, Utakata, Fuu and Naruto react to learning that their s/o have had a pretty rough past and have also been viewed as a monster by their village due to their bloodline limit[kekkei genkai]?
The jinchuriki crew once again!
Tw: Yandere themes, paranoia, delusional thoughts, bribing, vicious behavior, violence
s/o was being viewed as a monster in their village
Gaara
Tumblr media
🐼I can see that his darling most likely told him themself the truth about their past, simply because they wanted to let him know that they can totally relate to him. Probably also because Gaara was a bit insecure with the fact why they accepted him despite knowing what he is and what he did in the past. Poor Gaara. He would be so heartbroken over the fact that his darling had to suffer simply for being born with a bloodline limit. He himself does understand that he gave people more than one reason in the past to call him a monster. But what did his darling do wrong to be ignored and pushed away? Nothing! His s/o is the last person Gaara wanted to feel like he did.
🐼Gaara is rather paranoid and this would definitely trigger this side of him even more. He flatly refuses to let you go back to your village, not trusting the citizens in there anymore. He’s upset and angry at them. How could they? How could they do something like this to you? It hurts him how much he can relate to you, hearing all the terrifying things you’ve heard and went through. I can see him as someone who would become very clingy after knowing what you went through and being in general a lot more affectionate to you. He’s here for you. He understands.
🐼I think whether you’ll ever be able to go back to your old village depends solely on the fact if they started accepting you or not. If yes he might let you go back, but either he or his siblings will accompany you and he would definitely want to talk to the head of the village over the issue. If there are still people who view you as a monster don’t have any hopes of him letting you see the village again. No matter how strong you might pretend to be, Gaara is terrified of you breaking down someday due to this. The last thing on earth he wants is you starting to think of yourself as a monster as well. Why not just staying with him in the village where everyone adores you and you don’t have to endure hurtful comments and actions? I can see him going as far as locking you away in order to prevent you from wanting to go back. His siblings and you have to calm him down in order for him to let you out again.
Yugito Nii
Tumblr media
🐅Yugito is very observant and smart and it’s either that she figured out herself, knowing that people with a kekkai genkai aren’t always welcome in villages, or her a/o told her themself since Yugito is also very honest with them and since I can see the both of them quickly establishing a great amount of trust and honesty among each other. And for Yugito it might not even come as a surprise; she herself knows how quick people are to judge for things they couldn’t do anything against. She would be slightly angry as well as disappointed in the people from your village for treating you so terribly.
🐅Yugito is a overprotective woman and such a turn out from events will increase her overprotectiveness whether she wants too or not. Whilst not being someone who would completely forbid her darling to visit her village she would be a lot more warily about it, especially if there are still people with a negative mindset. But I can see her as someone who would also want your village to respect you and she might even feel confident that you can do it since she was able to do it as well. She’s also a great listener and if there should be something that weights heavily on your mind you can just tell her and she’ll know what to say to help you out of your misery.
🐅Yugito is overall someone who would want your village to start seeing you as you and not someone with a deadly kekkai genkai. Since you’re her darling you’re most likely respected by the villagers since they respect her too. The Raikage might get involved in this, especially if Yugito wants to have a talk with the people in your village. As rough as the Raikage can be, his own brother is a jinchuriki as well and so he will understand Yugito’s point of wanting to help you. So the Raikage will get the one or another way involved in this.
Yagura Karatachi
Tumblr media
🐢Yagura is obsessive and especially when finding out that his darling possesses a kekkai genkai he already knew that there was a possibility that they might have been mistreated due to it. Yagura wouldn’t dig too much into his darling’s past, preferring if they would tell him willingly which they might actually do if he isn’t being controlled. Yagura would be pretty upset and disappointed, but he knows too well how other people can react to those who possess powers others don’t. Controlled!Yagura will take a very deep look into theirr past and find out without hie darling having to tell him. He would still force them to tell him the truth and would take it with a terrifying calmness, already plotting the bloodiest things in his head out.
🐢Being a naturally clingy and overprotective Yandere, Yagura would prefer it if they would stay in the village where everyone respects and loves them due to being his darling. He would definitely be a lot more clingy and talkative after that, trying to cheer his darling up and help them getting over their horrible past as good as he can. Whilst respecting it if his darling doesn’t want to talk about it, he would still ask them whether they want to talk about how they used to be treated or not and will comfort his darling if they tell him. Controlled!Yagura on the other hand is the worst one to handle this situation simply because he has huge problems showing sympathy for his darling or let them see in general his soft side. As sad as it may sound, but he might even get annoyed if they keep whining about their past and at one point lash out on them.
🐢As much as Yagura would like you to stay by his side in his village, he also understands it if you want to see your old village again. But...only if he’s sure that you will be treated respectfully in there! He doesn’t want you to suffer constantly from the same trauma. Good luck with a Controlled!Yagura. Your village thougt you were a monster? He’ll show them a real one. I can even see him as twisted enough that he would somewhat expect you to thank him for what he’s done and would get angry if you just scream at him how he could do that. He’s doing one “nice” thing for you and you’re being so ungrateful?!
Utakata
Tumblr media
◾️His darling will have to tell him at one point. Utakata respects private space and understands that after kidnapping his darling they would give him the cold shoulder for quite some time. But he’s the only person they can talk too and such a past weights heavily so at one point they probably told him. And this shocked Utakata. He hadn’t known how much they had suffered, just like he did, and felt also stupid and bad for not knowing that sooner.
◾️I think after telling him this the relationship between the two of you would make a lot of progress due to understanding each other so good. Utakata would have a easier time opening up about his own past since he feels like his darling is the only person who will ever be able to truly understand him. The both of you would get really close and would often comfort each other and Utakata would be so much faster opener and also softer with you.
◾️As weird as it may sound, but suddenly he would feel glad for taking you away from your village. He feels almost like he did the right thing, saving you from the people who only hurt you and pushed you away. So he would be, since he’s a bit paranoid, almost mad if you would demand to go back to your village. He simply can’t understand why you would want to return to a village where you were constantly abused. He knows that what he’s putting you through isn’t perfect as well, but how can you say you’d rather endure being mocked and mistreated than being with him? Is he that bad?
Fuu
Tumblr media
🐛Her darling told her what happened to them in the past, half-willingly, but also because Fuu wouldn’t stop asking them about this. The thing with Fuu is that she never experienced any hatred for being a jinchuriki since she was being shielded so she would be absolutely dumbfounded and shocked when finding out about it. In her eyes her darling is perfect and she simply can’t understand why anyone would hate her darling for her bloodline limit. She thinks it’s amazing.
🐛Oh, her poor, sweet darling. Fuu would feel so hurt, not even wanting to imagine how alone and sad her darling must have felt. Stupid villagers! How can they not see what a walking miracle her darling is? Fuu is already a very affectionate Yandere. But after knowing what they went through she feels like she has to show her darling even more how much she adores them and how fantastic they really are.
🐛She wouldn’t really want to let you ever go back to your village. She feels like they don’t deserve the great you after everything they’ve done to you. She would be all shocked and pouts as well as a bit sad if you should ever tell her that you want to go back. Why would you? Wasn’t she showing you her love enough? If you should ever go back to your old home there’s no way you’re going without her. She has to defend you as well as “telling” the villagers her opinion about what she thinks of them. If Shibuki allows it is another question.
Naruto Uzumaki
Tumblr media
🍜Naruto is an obsessive one and a sweetheart for his darling so there’s a high chance that his darling told him willingly about his past, most likely due to the fact because it’s no secret about how he was being treated when he was younger. His darling might feel like he can relate. Naruto always adored his darling for their kekkai genkai so he would be totally crushed when hearing that they were hated so much for this. Not only does it trigger old memories from him, but he might also think back about what happened to Haku. And still, his delusional mindset would tell him that this is a sign that the two of you are indeed meant to be together.
🍜His darling will be absolutely showere in love after that, Naruto being ready to make up for years they had to endure without any love and affection. Similar to Gaara he would be so devastated over the fact that they had to suffer just like he did, being ignored and hated by everyone. No way that they deserve to feel unnecessary and not wanted like he did.
🍜Naruto is a secretly paranoid one, not as much as Gaara, but after knowing what you had to endure in your past life he was triggered. Your village doesn’t deserve you, no matter how much you try to convince him. His reaction will be similar to Gaara’s, meaning he’ll lock you away if you keep trying to convince him to let you visit your old village again. He wouldn’t know what to do, deciding to act first before thinking. How can you want to go back? Was it something he did? He’s just too horrified of the thought that you’ll have to suffer even more than you already did and deserved nothing of it.

Will be not posting any artworks today so have this instead;(more like a rant)
Why Do I Ship Sasuino & Gaasaku?
It's more likely because of the reason 'If ino can change sai then she can change sasuke' and have been shipping them since i started watching naruto when i was young, back then i Ship them because of their clothing colors lol i mean purple + blue is cool. Plus i still think their child would be strong and handsome/pretty.
And now to gaasaku... Have no reason lol i literally just ship them because of red + pink is cute😆 oh and probably because gaara is single at boruto (along with his yee yee ass haircut 😭😭).
GAARA'S HAIR DRAMA
THIS. THIS CRAP IS THE ONLY THING I WOULDN'T ACCEPT IN BORUTO- WHY YOU GOTTA DO GAARA LIKE THAT KISHIMOTO-🖐🏻😭😭😭 HIS PAST HAIR IS SO GORGEOUS LIKE WHY YYYYYY?????!!???
Drama
i see a lot on Tweeter saying people ship sasuino/sasukarin/sasuhina because they hate Sakura.. I don't get it?
I like sakura from the very start too but i rather ship her to gaara or naruto than sasuke (yes kind of ship sasusaku but not a fan) I respect all of the ship in naruto but why attack sakura tho? How much I'm a very very big fan of Sasuino i ship the canon because they do make sense. But please sasusaku fans don't go attacking sasuino with 'at least ours are canon' 'Sasuke doesn't give a fck about ino lmao' sht. If a sasuino fan doesn't bother you and your ship don't bother us...
Edit[ Sometimes sasuino fans kind of start the chaos too which where i will say just enjoy our own ship than bother the canon, we can all enjoy our Au's!]
About sasuhina tho... why did you ship them🖐🏻😭 yeah yeah ik there child would be strong and look cool but like sasukarin and sasuino make sense more than them- I'm not attacking the ship i just really wanna know when did the ship started? because i was 13 when i found out the ship exist👀 (kinda like the sasuhina fanarts tho-)
Now Sasusaku fans don't go around saying they hate sakura just because they ship sasuino/sasukarin/sasuhina... they literally might think the ship is cute plus yours already canon right? how the hell they will destroy a canon ship lmao- Oh plus narusasu stands out more👊🏻😤 (literally 90% of people watching naruto ship them-)
oh wanted to say don't compare the characters they good and beautiful on their own🤲🏻 plus have different contribution to the plot which is kind of important too👐🏻
(You can compare Danzo tho like i hate that btch so much😤)
My Main ship's;
Sasuino
Gaasaku
Naruhina
Nejiten
Shikatem
SuiKarin or Saikarin (i know sai x karin seems weird but if I'm going to give ino to sasuke might as well give sai a wife- their marriage can be like how choji met his wife)
Ship's I Support;
Narusaku
Sasusaku
Gaaino (im a fan of both ino and gaara-)
Narusasu (Sees this ship almost everywhere-)
SaiIno
Naruino (both blondie so-👀)
Inosaku (yes. i ship them. i mean ino looks like a simp for sakura lol-)
Ship's i found out exist, not supporting but i respect;
Sasuhina
Sasukarin
NaruKarin
Saisaku
KakaSaku (eyo wut-)
Itasaku
Itasasu (SWEET HOME ALABAMA-)
Thank you for listening (READING) to me🤲🏻

How It Should Have Ended Naruto Edition. What would you have changed and why?
- Neji would have lived, Hiashi would have died in his place. That would have been a much more meaningful death. He and Tenten would live happily ever after and have no kids and laugh at all their friends changing poopy diapers.
- People?? Would not?? All have babies in the exact same year??
- Yamato would NOT have to go out and chase after the source of all the trauma in his life but would instead partake in the arrest and execution of Orochimaru who 100% deserves it and then live happily ever after.
- Instead of chasing after this dream that clearly will never and did never come true Sakura would grow up to realize Sausage just isn’t good for her and would fall in love with someone who actually supports and openly loves her. (Am I biased? Is it Kakashi? Yes to both.)
- Sausage does not get to go on his stupid exile self pity tour but stays in Konoha and gets some motherfucking therapy like he so clearly needs.
- Naruto is the best fucking god damn father you have ever heard of. Clones? They can do all the work for him. He can make a hundred clones and stay updated on everything happening in the village while his real self stays home all day every day giving his kids the loving childhood he never got himself.
- Anko stays a bad ass kunoichi. Maybe she still gains weight, maybe not. The Akimichi sure prove that just because you’ve got a little padding doesn’t mean you can’t be good in a fight. She likes to drop by the academy and tell Iruka all about her wild mission adventures and proclaim that his life must be boring in comparison.
- Temari stays her true intelligent and abrasive self but she goes on missions because she truly enjoys it. She is not a housewife. She does not threaten her husband with going to bed without dinner. Shikamaru is a grown ass man and cooks his own damn dinner when he needs to. They raise their child to to be a true Nara who drinks respect women juice for breakfast every morning and whose one true dream is to break the world record for napping.
- All the next gen children actually spend time with their parents and LEARN about their parents, train with their parents, and there is no stupidity about not knowing who their real father is or doubting who their parents really are or any such nonsense.
- In his capacity as Hokage Kakashi would focus on finding ways to support the mental health of his shinobi so that no one ever has to go through the sort of trauma like he did alone. Ino would use her position as the Head of T&I to help him standardize therapy as something all shinobi have access to and create a regimen of psychological reviews that everyone must pass before being allowed on the field after a traumatic event.
- Kiba would help this effort by suggesting therapy dogs. He would become the head of this project and love his life forever.
- We would actually get to see Ino taking Sai under her wing to help him grow as a human being then the way they accidentally fall in love along the way.
- Hanabi would become the head of the Hyuga clan and humbly request her sister’s help in abolishing the practice of the Caged Bird Seal.
- Konohamaru would be set on track to realize his own dream of becoming Hokage once Naruto decides to step down and focus on his family
- Suigetsu and Karin would be best friends and travel the world together experiencing things for the sheer joy of living life on their own terms. Karin would get to build a relationship with Naruto as each others’ last living distant relatives, she would visit quite often. Probably hates his kids. He probably thinks it’s hilarious.
- Kakashi’s ninken would all retire and choose to live out their lives taking up space in the Hokage’s office or wherever he happens to be.
- Gaara would not get a combover. Ever.
- Mei would have been allowed to finally realize there is more to life than marriage and spend her retirement traveling around with Tsunade.
- When he retired as well Kakashi would secretly continue the Icha Icha series and publish it under a pen name. Everyone knows it’s him. No one says a thing. All of them are too busy weeping in to their pillows over his beautiful prose. (Weeping with laughter. He’d be a terrible author.)
-Hm this got long. I regret nothing.

Erwin and Armin are amazing but I wish readers would celebrate their characters without trashing Hange. Erwin and Armin are amazing but I really wish people would celebrate these two characters without trashing Hange. Like it has become such a recurring thing and it honestly hurts me so much because Hange doesn’t deserve one bit of hate they get :(
Mood. I feel the same way about Hange. Hange is literally one of my favorite characters in AOT and I feel so strongly about her I genuinely just wanna name my kid Hange man, I mean I probably mentioned this so many times but yeah, I don’t think Hange as a character is gonna leave me for a really long while. Maybe when I’m 80, I’ll still be musing about Hange as a character and making headcanons while telling my grand kids bedtime stories about Levihan jkjkjk but really.
But I get why she’s misunderstood. I mean there are so many explanations for this. I’m actually the only one in my family and among my friends who surprisingly has Hange as one of my top favorites because if I ask them stuff they’re just like: crazy titan lady or ‘god, Hange is so weird.’ I mean we already have season 1 to prove how much of a weirdo Hange is. And like season 2 we had that scene where she literally just threatened to throw a priest off a wall and we saw how much of a weirdo she was completely destroying tables because she was frustrated and how many times have we seen her go crazy over titans with maybe those creepy eyes, what about those times she was just so overenthusiastic about crazy titan shit to Eren? That’s what she had been portrayed as since the start.
And, sure we Hange fans would consider it endearing but I guess I’m starting to realize the enthusiastic way Hange goes about life won’t please everyone and that’s why she tends to be incredibly overlooked as a person. Either that, or people might just find her annoying.
And here’s another thing, a lot of readers tend to relate with characters because of a back story right? Because if you’re able to explain why a character is annoying like that, some people might even go ‘awwww, you’re right.’ Think Rock Lee from Naruto for example. I thought he was pretty annoying for a while, then we got his backstory when he was fighting Gaara and suddenly everyone loved him. But Hange doesn’t have this which makes it more difficult for people to relate.
Hange doesn’t have any reason for being a complete weirdo, she just is.
Another thing I actually saw people be salty about is Hange being a complete weirdo, yet being chosen as commander. I actually had some people ask me ‘Why is it not Levi? He’s humanity’s strongest?” And here’s the thing, a lot of people like Levi and a lot of people like Erwin because they are so OBVIOUSLY useful. And they so obviously carry the survey corps and humanity’s hope on their back. Like the narrative never hesitates to tell us how smart Erwin is, how cunning he is or how useful Levi is because come on, it takes forever for animators to animate Levi scenes because that’s how badass they showed him to be. But Hange on the other hand, Hange’s genius is incredibly subtle and I think I’ve pointed it out multiple times. You can check this post over here I made a while back about Hange’s ingenuity.
While the overall story narration explicitly commends Erwin and Armin for their strategy skills like: figuring out who Annie was to Erwin staging a coup to both of them creating their own plans which turned out to be successes in Take Back Shiganishina arc. And they explicitly commend Levi too for his beast titan, female titan, running away from Kenny arcs.
Hange on the other hand, never does get the explicit commendation for her genius Sure, she makes some great calls but do you notice her more obvious plans always turn out to be ‘failures’? Like the barrel thing when capturing Annie, pastor Nick, her plans against the colossal titan. These are the scenes where her decision making was notably more flashy but something always ends up fucking up in the end. Like for example with Annie, Annie breaks through the barrel traps, with Pastor Nick, although Hange receives info on Pastor Nick, he ends up dying and who gets shown in a bad light for being ‘careless?’ Hange. And yes, who gets her whole squad obliterated in the Shiganshina? Hange. And the many times Hange’s genius is shown? It’s completely glossed over as ‘oh nice smart move.’ But her great decisions don’t come with great production or great soundtracks so they tend to be glossed over narration wise. Like Hange figuring out what happened in Connie’s village, Hange getting the information from Father NIck, Hange figuring out what the wall was made out of. They were explicitly shown to be useful information but Hange was never explicitly commended in canon to have been a genius for figuring it out. It’s like even the narration is taking Hange’s genius for granted.
And god, can we just discuss how Season 4 almost completely glosses over the fact that Hange had the genius to manage the whole transition of Paradis onwards because I think this is the best example of what I’m talking about.. Like sure they do say ‘Yes they managed to kill all the titans outside, okay they managed to reach the ocean,’ But no one actually says ‘oh yes, they manage to reach the ocean THANKS TO THE SUPERB LEADERSHIP SKILLS OF COMMANDER ZOE.’ Because the story is too busy focus on everything else happening? There are way more flashy things to show? And think about it, even during the raid of Marley? Hange comes in on a blimp, in subtly the most mind blowing thing but of course most people would focus on Levi fighting the titans or Eren fighting the titans, Armin blowing up a whole port or Mikasa having one of the most stellar entrances ever.
And yeah, that’s pretty much my explanation for why I think she tends to get glossed over in canon. And yes, this kinda turned into a rant of how underrated I feel Hange is. And this is just from the perspective of the readers.
I have an ask sitting around about why Hange probably ‘failed’ as a commander and why she didn’t get the respect she deserved I’ll discuss her underratedness in-canon when I get to that ask. Anyway I hope this helps you deal with her underratedness anon.
And another reason why Hange is probably underappreciated?
The Gender wars which gloss over the other facets of her character and force her on a certain gender and the moment anyone decides to appreciate Hange by calling her they or she, people get mad for either misgendering her or using they, which makes a lot of people hesitant to appreciate or be vocal about her on twitter.

NaruHina Analysis
Naruto Manga Part 1
Part 2
Tumblr media
Kiba tries to demoralise Naruto emotionally during their fight and Hinata thinks this. We see here how Hinata has watched how everyone treated Naruto for a very long time and has very deep empathy for him. She has an in depth analysis of his character and sees the true person inside and not a monster. No one in their age group feels this much empathy and understanding for him. She admires his strength and determination, she knows he is strong. She knows the effort involved in getting up when you are despaired. She knows that better than anyone and that’s why she admires Naruto, since she before this moment, wasn’t capable of doing the same thing.
Kishimoto shows us just how well Hinata understands Naruto and whos the most empathetic for him. Everyone else is starting to notice and acknowledge him NOW. Hinata has already acknowledged him waaaaay before this. Even with his flaws she still acknowledge the great person she sees inside. This is true love.
Naruto seeks acknowledgement and is willing to do anything to achieve it. But being an abused orphan his view on love is screwed and he thinks just gaining everyones respect and admiration is enough. And how will he achieve this? Well the Hokage has the highest amount of respect, right? If he becomes Hokage then everyone is forced to acknowledge his existance at last. But what he truly wants is for someone to care for him, acknowledge his true self and love him for who he is, he seeks this because he has never felt it and he wants it. To feel wanted and loved is what he desperately seeks the only way he knows how. Hinata is what Naruto wants, Kishimoto knows this, we know this, but Naruto doesn’t know it yet.
Tumblr media
Hinata gives Naruto some healing ointment. She wants to help him but her shyness is hard to overcome. With all her strength she manages to overpower it and holds out the healing ointment for him. Kurenai, being a matured adult and Shino’s observation capacity, inmediatly realize the true meaning behind Hinata’s gesture to Naruto. Naruto turns around to look at her immediatly when she said his name but he gets confused by her kind act. He simply cant believe that someone is nice to him.
Tumblr media
Naruto doesn’t understand why Hinata would give this to him. Kurenai helps in the awkward situation and encourages him to take it. It’s actually quite sad that Naruto reacts in this way. It shows just how foreign kind gestures towards him are. He accepts her gift, thanks her and calls her a nice girl. When he’s on his way we see him rub his hand on his back, which is a gesture someone usually does when you’re a little embarresed, but pleased. He also has a big smile on his face. He appreciated her gift and i think that it made him start to really like her. Naruto is not one to often tell someone what he really thinks about them, because he’s afraid people will find out about his insecurities (it’s why he has his tough guy bravado) but he calls her nice and he truly ment it. This is one of the first steps of Naruto’s subconscious love for her, her kindness towards him.
Tumblr media
Neji begins to demoralize Hinata, even before the fight has started.
Besides Neji’s hatred for her, she still sees him as a brother.
He makes a psychological analysis of Hinata. Her personality, insecurities and worries. Hinata reveals that she wants to change herself.
Look at Naruto’s reaction. He has the face of someone trying to hide his emotions (his eyes makes it seem like he doesn’t care that much) but he actually looks very serious. He knows how it feels like to want to change yourself. He is in a constant battle within himself for the same reason everyday of his life. Neji thinks that destiny cannot be changed. Both his and Hinata’s are already determined. And Hinata’s destiny says that she will always be a failure, no matter how much she tries to improve.
These words deeply affect Naruto, who sees himself reflected in Hinata. (Much like how he saw Haku as being like him, much like he’ll see Gaara as being like him, he sees part of himself in Hinata)
Neji continues to mentally attack Hinata, and we see how Naruto gets more and more angry. He cant bare to witness this situation in which he feels completly identified with Hinata.
Tumblr media
He tries to hold in his anger that is turning so intense that some of the kyuubi features start to appear (kyuubi lips). Seeing this girl that was so kind to him (wanted to help him in the written exam and gave him some healing ointment) and that he can now see himself reflected in being treated this badly makes him so angry that he’s literally shaking and his inner demon of hate is even leaking a little. He knows he cant interfere even though he clearly wants to so he has to hold it in....
Tumblr media
But he cant hold it in any longer and he finally explodes. He screams very loadly and tells her ”YOU CAN CHANGE, DONT LISTEN TO HIM”. He then shouts at Neji to stop decide things about people (her) and then encourage Hinata to fight back and stand up for herself, just like he would do. Hinata is mesmerised by Naruto’s sudden words of support and mentally gets herself together and thanks him for snapping out of her depressing state. One must ask themselves if Naruto was only focused on Neji, why did he directly address Hinata when he exploded ”YOU CAN”. It was Hinata he paid attention to, he saw her crying and knew she was in a similar situation as him because of Neji’s words. He also tells her to stand up for herself and fight back, he encourages her and supports her, he believes in her and he hasn’t even seen her fight yet. He’s probably the first to even support her at all actually.
Tumblr media
When Hinata’s attitude changes we see Naruto cheer for her with much more enthusiasm and intensity.
But when Hinata’s attack fails and she gets hit by the gentle fist instead, we see how Naruto gets very shocked and sad. Naruto is shown being distraught when things seem not to be going well.
Tumblr media
Neji tells her to forfeit, but Hinata is determined, she has adopted the same nindo as Naruto. Naruto thinks that if she gives up, it’s as if he does it too and he is admiting to all the people who call them failures they were right. He wants Hinata to prove this isn’t true. Then he sees her do just that while simultaneously using his own words. Every single day he coexist with people who considers him a failure that will never change. So when he sees Hinata adopting the same attitude as him just by his words, hes a goner. This created a huge impact on him. (Look at his face, he’s completly mesmerised by her (a common theme)).
Tumblr media
Naruto reveals that he never knew Hinata was this incredible. He went from thinking she was shy and weird, to then being kind and nice and to know being incredible. That shows how huge an impact this was on him. I find it nice that his peers are suddenly so supportive, Lee says he sees the similarities between them and Sakura even tells him that she has always been watching him. If even their peers notice how Hinata looks at Naruto then you know it’s something special. This is when Naruto really started to notice Hinata.
Tumblr media
Look closely at the top right picture of Naruto. You can just make out that he’s actually blushing. He probably thinks ”Why would Hinata be watching me?” But he doesn’t feel uncomfortable but rather intrigued as his emotions heightened.
Look at his reaction when she started to cough up blood. Everyone else didn’t react that much but Naruto looks on the verge of panic. His reactions are very similar to when he recognized that Haku was like him. But even more deeply.
That will be all for this part. Next part i’ll continue with the fight. Here is the previous part if you missed it.
Next part: Part 3
Part 1

is that meant to be an excuse
the WAY kakashi turns his back on the eldest and most highly-ranked officials in the village
and then he up and walks out of the room while koharu is in the middle of her next sentence
literally he just - walks out.  he doesn’t excuse himself or say goodbye or bow.  he doesn’t even let her finish speaking.  he leaves while she’s in the middle of talking and then shuts the door in her face.
file this next to ‘kakashi faces down orochimaru’ in the drawer of kakashi’s most badass moments.  the level of disrespect kakashi broadcasts here is staggering - in no way would his behavior during this conversation be considered acceptable by anyone who doesn’t understand the context, but he isn’t just being an arrogant little shit for no reason, and this isn’t simply a right-wing/left-wing philosophy clash, either.  kakashi just learned all the dirty details about the uchiha massacre. he knows what these two did.
even though kakashi is the one who reminds naruto (rightly) that they can’t just unquestioningly accept any story madara uchiha tells them, he acts this way with the councilors here because deep down, he believes what he’s been told.  he can’t say anything about it until he has proof, and he’s too smart to act on information that could still be a lie intended to destabilize the Leaf’s rebuilding efforts, but he’s clearly been thinking about it ever since madara appeared in the Land of Iron, and we can see here that ultimately, after doing his own internal analysis, the conclusion he’s drawn is that madara was probably telling them the truth.  however shocking and impossible a state-sponsored genocide + subsequent cover-up may have sounded to kakashi at first (and however much he may not have wanted to entertain the possibility of it having occurred), he suspects that madara’s information is true.  he thinks this is probably what happened.
it’s not a conclusion he draws without cause, i don’t think.  i imagine that for kakashi, this revelation feels more like a blurry picture coming into focus, as if he’s finally received the key to decrypting something that never made sense to him.  i’m watching this show for the first time, so there are some things i’m not clear on, but my impression is that kakashi knew itachi through ANBU before the uchiha massacre went down, and if that were the case, then i can only imagine how incomprehensible his crimes must have seemed at the time, to people who were familiar with him - it must have sounded impossible.  but kakashi and everyone else just had to accept itachi’s sudden turnaround as the reality, because impossible as it seemed, there was no alternative explanation for what happened.
but now, though - kakashi’s not stupid.  he is, per naruto’s own words, smarter than shikamaru.  as soon as madara uchiha presents him with a different possibility, things that never made sense before start to fall into place.  all the incomprehensible puzzle pieces that never fit together finally start to make sense within a bigger picture.  sasuke’s survival.  itachi being careless enough to let himself be spotted and accosted in the hidden leaf before he could get anywhere near naruto.  danzo sending sai to assassinate sasuke without tsunade’s knowledge or permission.  sai’s curse mark.  the report gaara gives kakashi about the five kage summit (where danzo was discovered to have stolen shisui uchiha’s sharingan eye).  and this -
Tumblr media
kakashi can’t act without proof, but he knows.  he knows it’s true.  for the first time in years, things actually feel like they make sense.  and now, in this episode, he’s supposed to report to these two councilors as if he doesn’t know that they aided and abetted in a genocide against sasuke’s people, coerced a child into murdering his own community, covered the whole thing up, and are currently trying to get rid of the evidence by having sasuke assassinated?
kakashi can’t say anything yet, but he is coldly furious.  that narrowed eye says everything.  he knows he has to keep his mouth shut, because technically this could all still be a fabrication, and even if it’s not a lie, tipping his hand too soon could prompt the destruction of any evidence that might eventually enable this crime to be proven and dragged into the light, but the way he slaps these elders with disrespect here speaks volumes.  the cold contempt in his voice, the way he turns his back to them, the way he walks out of the room while they’re in the middle of a sentence - is that meant to be an excuse?
a reminder, for perspective: kakashi just returned from a confrontation where he thought he was going to have to kill his own kid because sasuke was so unbalanced by rage and pain and grief that he felt irresistibly compelled to destroy everything and everyone in his path, and now kakashi is supposed to just sit here and be deferent to the people who started this whole ball rolling years and years ago, back when sasuke and itachi were both just innocent children?
no.  he shows them his back.  he shuts the door in their faces.  he does everything except flat-out tell them “i know what you did,” and while they may not know exactly why he’s behaving like this, they definitely know that the new hokage isn’t interested in any of their “advice.”
Tumblr media
one other thought before i wrap this up: kakashi is the LAST person these two would ever have wanted to find out about their misdeeds.  he’s not some isolated child coming apart at the seams who can be discredited and eliminated - he’s one of the most renowned and respected jonin in their village (in ALL the villages of the shinobi world, in fact).  he’s also not distant enough from the situation to brush off these accusations as nothing more than rumor - he’s too intimately connected to the uchiha, to sasuke, to itachi, to obito, to the legacy of a dead community and the rightful inheritance that he carries inside his own body.  and most importantly of all, he’s not indoctrinated enough to accept whatever cold, shinobi-code calculations these people would try to use to justify their decision.
kakashi doesn’t care if the shinobi code says the extermination of the uchiha clan was an acceptable loss.  doing the right thing in defiance of the shinobi code was young!kakashi’s entire character arc.  he used to be the “fall in line” kid, because he thought following the rules could protect him from pain, but after his friend teaches him a better way to be, he chooses to upend his entire life and reinvent himself in that friend’s image.  kakashi has remodeled himself after rulebreakers - specifically, people who refused to sacrifice the lives of others for the sake of a nebulous “greater good,” despite society’s rigid demands that they do so.  one of those people was his own father, a man who was crucified and ultimately destroyed by the culture he rejected, and the other was obito uchiha - a member of the same clan that danzo and the Leaf administration chose to sacrifice for the so-called “greater good” of the community.
kakashi will never accept any excuses for that.  he will never give the administration a free pass on slaughter, even slaughter for the sake of a future “peace.”  the entire foundation upon which he’s built his post-obito philosophy is that you can’t sacrifice others for the sake of your mission, not even if the rules say it must be done.   you can give up your own life, yes.  but you NEVER offer up somebody else’s.  it’s not a right or worthy thing to do, and it never creates a lasting peace - as we’re seeing right now, with sasuke’s retribution.
when you get right down to it, kakashi is this administration’s worst nightmare.  i am really looking forward to the day he and sasuke and yamato and naruto can finally blow this conspiracy wide open.
