In 1903, Marie Curie founded a clandestine society where brilliant women could pursue the furthest reaches of their intellect. The Curie Society still covertly exists today in secret chapters at dozens of universities worldwide!
When Simone, Maya, and Taj arrive at Edmonds University, they think they’re simply starting their coursework, but after a strange night of puzzles and coded communications, they are introduced to The Curie Society. Almost immediately, they are deployed on their first urgent mission! A mysterious criminal network has stolen research data from a top-secret Curie de-extinction lab, and if no one intervenes, it will soon be sold to some of the world’s worst elements.
These new recruits will have to use all their specialized scientific skills to protect the Curie Society and save the world – or their first mission may be their last!

You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.

morality in fallout games
fallout 3: hmmm. is it bad to blow up the people you don't like?
fallout new vegas: every action has consequences, even actions you believe to be correct and that seem like the most straightforward way to improve society and free people from poverty and disease. war is hell and there are limits to how many problems can be solved with a revolver. every enemy you kill is someone's brother or daughter or lover, and you can't guarantee you won't meet that someone and have to stand by your decisions at some point. how strong is your conviction to do the "right" thing when you know that people you care about may hate you for it? how sure are you that your definition of "good" is more correct than someone else's? how often is your "good" really just the lesser of two evils? who are you to play god and decide what kinds of people deserve happiness more than others? would it be cowardly and wrong to remain neutral and detached when you hold the power to singlehandedly change everything? w
fallout 4: hmmm. is it bad to blow up the WAIT!!! POST CANCELED i just remembered this game has a mod that lets you replace Curie's humanoid synth form with a hot robot furry and you can date her and that kinda fucking rules actually

Volcanologist rizz: damn girl are you volcanic ash and spatter? Because you’re intoxicating
Historical rizz: they’ll call me patron of the arts the way I’m paying for furry porn
Econ rizz: baby, I‘ve got the supplies, the question is, do you have the demand.
Environmental science rizz: I must be the climate crisis the way your ignoring me
Physics rizz: looks like you forgot to account for my gravitational pull
Philosophy rizz: I stopped checking for monsters under the bed when I realized society was the monster
Chemistry rizz: Call me Marie curie bc a hug without u would be life ending

hi hound, got a question for ya . kind of related to phone sex. Yippee
anyway, so i feel its kind of established in dialtown that being a phone head is equal to being amab, and being a typewriter head is equal to being afab (based on oliver and karens refusal to date types/phones respectively ofc) so i was wondering - what about people born with neither, like karen? would she be considered a form of intersex by society?
followup - how do like. Genetics work? like are they born with specific heads based on their parents (would karen be more likely to have a printer child, for example)?
Appologies for the long and strange questions, your game is rotting me as we speak
anyway, so i feel its kind of established in dialtown that being a phone head is equal to being amab, and being a typewriter head is equal to being afab (based on oliver and karens refusal to date types/phones respectively ofc)
Kiiind of. It's mainly a cultural thing. Basically, the tradition is to assign heads to babies based on the gender assigned at birth. Because of this, someone with a phone head is widely considered by others to be male, and vice versa for typewriters, and this is why many trans people in-universe switch, in the same way as someone might style their hair or change their wardrobe in ours. However, because the heads are modular (and can be changed), it's best to view this correlation as more of a cultural trend rather than a rigid system that everyone follows without exception, one of which I'll explain in the next part of the answer.
what about people born with neither, like karen? would she be considered a form of intersex by society?
Karen actually HAD a typewriter head before she was given the printer. A little bit of background context here: Callum Crown, the inventor of the phone head, invented his first ever cybernetic augmentations (his revolutionary prosthetic limbs) in order to help other disabled people gain mobility and independence. He wanted to give other people the same opportunities that his technology had given him.
When he moved onto the phone head concept, he never forgot about his initial goal of using technology to help people with disabilities. Karen's typewriter head was actually a developmental adaptation. Basically, it allowed a young averbal Karen to produce images, which assisted her in communication before she could learn to speak (and helped her learn to speak sooner than if she had never gotten the upgrade.) While it's quite a modern solution for a disability that wasn't well understood in Crown's time, it's absolutely in line with his philosophies and it's an application he'd be very enthusiastic about, if he was still fully conscious.
Similarly, there are NPCs in-game who have non-standard heads and aren't trans or non-binary, like Rachel at the Dialtown News Network, who has a teleprompter head! In much the same way Karen's head was switched for utility purposes, the same is true for many people who work certain jobs where these heads come in handy. Therefore, I think it's safer to say that someone's head type more or less correlates with their overall identity, with gender, occupation, or any other relevant circumstances factoring into what kind of head they might have.
There's a few NB NPCs in-game and the cultural way many express that is by having hybrid heads, or heads with elements of both phones + typewriters. Take Curie, the curator of the DT Modern Art museum, who has a typewriter head with a phone dial added to it. Gabby (the store clerk who sells phone parts in Uptown Dialtown) also mentions that this practice is common.
followup - how do like. Genetics work? like are they born with specific heads based on their parents (would karen be more likely to have a printer child, for example)?
Genetics don't factor into it outside of the cultural tendency to give phone/typewriter heads based on the gender of the child. Basically, all babies are born with an adapter, and right after birth, the baby is given their new head. Think about how difficult it would be to give birth to someone with a FULL-SIZED typewriter head! There's more than one reason it's set up the way it is, but that's the most important thing to mention. Hope this helps!

Concept for if Bethesda loved the other Companions same as old tricky dick
Gage; a dlc that doesn't kinda suck actually, but also properly explores what being a raider entails, and what kind of people end up as one. I don't think you could actually redeem him, but I'd like that idea to be directly confronted, as least. I've talked about this before but it's wasted potential that you can't make the Nuka Gang confront the fact that Oh Shit The Farmers Are Now Dangerous
Deacon: I don't think he needs his own side quest or even DLC, but I'd like him to have side quests attached to him, a la Nick's detective cases sidequests. He's a spy. Pls let us do spy shit
Piper: Same as Deacon, but I think she actively needs a sidequest. Her character gimmick, her plot purpose, and her actual affinity talks are so unrelated it's painful. Let her journalism actually be content, not just a bit of trivia about her. A set of side quests + a personal quest that addresses Diamond City's Problems with a capital P. Lots of societal issues in that little space and we do nothing with any of it.
Preston: just fix the Minutemen and give this man a goddamn break. The Minutemen just need a rehaul, so as to not have him be the quest giver. And give him other stuff to do! I wanna actually fight the Gunners! Bring up and address the failures of the old Minutemen!!! Please!!!
X6-88: give the bitch something oh my God. Much like Gage, I don't think you can convince him to let go of the Institute, but give us a CHANCE. Emil just seems so scared to ask hard questions and use interesting concepts.
Danse; finish his arc you thots (also I think Fallout 4 really lacks some humanizing/soft moments in the world and I think Danse would be a good. Subject? For them. Like a shelter dog getting to play with ducklings. Idk but I have a vision)
MacCready: they forgot that his whole point was having a whole ass baby. Give him his child wtf.
Strong; delete
Codsworth; stronger plot presence. This robot raised that old bitch let him throw hands. Also, if you wanted to put quests in Sanctuary that spawn up as the town develops, Codsworth would be a great quest giver and tagalong as you try and keep the piece and set up some kind of society.
Curie; I've said it before. I'm saying again. Curies whole deal should have been a major plot point. She's a robot that becomes human and develops human feelings with human biology. This is not important to any faction leader. What on earth.
Cait; yall fuckin know how I feel about Cait but honestly, her personal quest sucks so much I'd rather they didn't. Just give her more and better affinity talks. She needs more time to open up and develop, and 4 conversations is not enough.
Hancock; I have quite a few nitpicks about Hancock but the fact that Micky D getting ganked and being revealed to be a synth DOESNT MATTER is insane. Macdonough's last interaction with Hancock was crucial to his character arc and not letting that circle around is so, so miserable. Also, I want politically-charged quests. Campaigning! Discussions on economy! He's a mayor of this weird little anarchy town, let us play in that space.

The Gang visits Rivet City
Deacon immediately disappears to go bother Pinkerton. Possibly comes back with a nose job.
Curie is next door checking out Project Purity, pour la science!
Danse is having multiple overlapping existential crises.
Piper is investigating the class warfare between the upper and lower decks.
MacCready alternates between buying drinks for former Lamplighters and hiding from people he owes money.
Preston is geeking out at the Capital Preservation Society. Hancock is with him, making increasingly ridiculous offers to buy the Declaration of Independence.
Danse HATES Harkness’s vibe and can’t figure out why.
Deacon knows why. He says nothing because he thinks it’s funny.

ROUND 1
Tumblr media
Faye belongs to @addysfandomdump
Curie belongs to @riftclaw
Find out more about them below!
Faye Moreau:
(content warning for some darker elements!)
Faye Moreau is a weird little 8-year-old foxgirl with a strong interest in dolls and taxidermy. She often combines both at once, making dolls out of organic material such as skin, bones, and fur (acquired through meal scraps and shed fur). She is the latest addition to the Moreaus, a high-class family of wealthy foxes with a terrible secret. She is oblivious to the unethical and depraved acts of sadism her family, particularly her mother, commit to any unfortunate victims that trespass on their property, raised to think of them as normal. She has never been outside the borders of her estate, her only connection to the outside world being Tails Doll, who she found tattered and dirty in the garden. She took it in and patched it up. She cherishes it dearly.
Curie the Radiant:
Curie is an escaped experiment, the result of an attempt to create a lifeform that could survive an irradiated wasteland. His entire body has been rewired to feed on nuclear energy, with the only byproduct of the process being the light he emits from his luminescent fur and skin. After spending nearly 80 years in containment, he was rescued and freed and helped to re-integrate into society. Now he spends much of his time tinkering, running a nuclear power and waste disposal company at a loss in order to keep himself fed. Despite having a fairly limited diet due to his specific nutritional needs, he loves to eat candy for fun. Curie also loves to collect plushies and Godzilla merchandise, because Godzilla is just like him!

Families in the AOAS world are so bizarre and interesting. The average person just has like six families worth of grown children. You can have aunts and uncles who are younger than you or be older than your parents. Greyson has dozens of siblings he's never gotten to know (kind of like Cirrus. Just saying. All resonates). Rowan's parents neglect him because they're going through the motions and he's the lettuce.
People can be raised by the Thunderhead when their parents give them up, and how does that work? Maybe Nimbus agents go to check on those kids sometimes and give them human company. Maybe the Authority Interface has a division devoted to helping surrendered kids make friends and adjust in society. What happened to those kids when the Thunderhead stopped speaking and dismantled the AI? Did Greyson have to learn to feed himself at age four because his parents weren't around? His parents didn't surrender him, but they slacked enough that they might as well have.
The families of scythes have permanent immunity and Scythe Curie warns Citra about how that could tear her family apart on Thanksgiving, so Citra just cuts contact. And then there's Esme and her mom who have to carry this gigantic secret and basically live in witness protection once Goddard is revived.
Getting a divorce must be so easy. You and your spouse agree you want a divorce, let the Thunderhead know, and it's like, "Okay, done. Here's how best to divide up your stuff and a custody arrangement for the dog." No more long horrible court processes. Then again, it probably means a lot of people get married for like a week and then get bored, no harm done.
SO many questions.

companions react to sole that used to be a ballerina? maybe they walk in and see them practicing their old moves?
Cait: “I could have used that flexibility in the Combat Zone.” Cait is impressed by Sole’s reach and ability to bend at odd, almost impossible angles. She incorporates that admiration into her flirtatious teasing towards Sole.
Codsworth: “Ah, ballet! What a civilized form of dance. It makes me miss polite society.” Codsworth happily spins whenever Sole pirouettes across the living room.
Curie: Curie had heavily researched ballet and other forms of pre-war dance. She nearly begged Sole to explain the meaning behind each position and routine. Not only is Curie interested in the technicalities of ballet, but the stories specific dances tell. She especially enjoyed hearing about Swan Lake.
Danse: Danse found ballet to be an adequate combination of culture and exercise. He was happy to watch Sole’s routines and listen to the meaning behind each dance. However, he didn’t enjoy Scribe Haylen walking in on Sole teaching him how to relevé.
Deacon: “Sole, I’m not lying when I say I will literally, literally die if you don’t teach me some moves.” It didn’t take long for Desdemona to ban the dance in HQ. Deacon and Sole kept knocking stuff over.
Dogmeat: Barks and jumps up on Sole with giddy, reckless abandon. Assumes Sole wants to play.
Hancock: “Where else are those moves good for?” Despite his initial suggestive comments, Hancock is actually interested in the elegance of ballet. He happily watches Sole perform at the Third Rail.
MacCready: MacCready struggled to conceal his giggling. “You look kinda ridiculous jumping around like that, Sole. New evasive maneuvers to dodge bullets?” Ballet eventually grew on him when Sole added music from the radio. He commented that the kids in Little Lamplight would have loved Sole’s performance.
Preston: He insisted Sole perform at the Castle to boost Minutemen morale. He thought ballet was something to be shared, not kept to Sole in an empty room.
Piper: “You should write a column on that dancing; how to stretch beforehand, what the different positions are called, how to pronounce pir-ou-ette.” Piper wasn’t kidding. She let Sole write a few stories on dancing and exercise, which sold an unprecedented amount of papers.
Nick: “Finally someone with class in this godforsaken Commonwealth.” Nick had memories -- not his personally, of course -- where he attended ballet with his wife. He loved catching Sole practicing their routines.
X6-88: “Stretching improves flexibility and reduces injury. Perhaps you could teach classes in the Institute.” He secretly just wants to learn for himself.

only direction; ødegaard
pairing: martin ødegaard x fem!reader
warning: angst w a slightly cute ending (also first time writing an angst and not proofread !!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
rina's masterlist
it shouldn't go the way it did, it wasn't even supposed to happen — it was supposed to be a happy ending for the pair of you, like orpheus being desperately devoted to his beautiful eurydice or marie curie keeping on working on her husbands and her own science researches even after his death.
you already had suffered, yet the world couldn't stop the misery, presenting you with an apocalyptic kind of shit.
martin and you had given each other everything since day one, always supporting one another, fighting together but nothing good lasts forever.
Your grandma once said to you that you're only kids, the first love's always going to be a shadow following you around, you'd have to look over your shoulder to spot it, — a reminder if you will say so —, however the heartbreak wasn't something she thought worth of mentioning.
oh the heartbreak. the norwegian and you weren't a romance people fantasized about though you had been content and in love. As you grew within age, the problem started to announce themselves — when you fought, you fought like lions, clashing and making up afterwards.
Holding on the idea of love — desire, together being stronger, almost like winners, and comfort —, neither of you understood how love could get lost in years of being partners. How would someone realise the feeling after seven years? Would you even step forward and admit it? Would you even find another partner, fall in love?
So many questions and you won't get answers if not committing to the true feelings.
You both had been talking about the near future; a wedding, a bigger house, even kids were on the list. Adult things, a list society had written out to all the "traditional" couples. In a sense the blonde footballer and y/n were the subject; wearing the pink glasses, you had definitely talked about it.
But then again life happens. You started to see each other less, neither of you taking the time for the other which resulted in screaming battels. Those also took place when for example Martin put a clothing article of yours away or not talking about little things like buying small trinkets and weekly meal planning.
The more you stressed about talking about the next stage of your relationship, the more toxic it got, so one day you decided to break. You knew Martin would never step up, not having the heart to say those words. But someone had to before you'd grow old and miserable.
Thats the starting point; Wednesday evening in the middle of mai. With the back to you the norwegian watched the london traffic, staying silent and waiting for you to speak. Both of you felt the tension in the air, holding on the last minutes of the delusional thing that you called a loving relationship.
Taking a deep breath, you starred at his back. The words burned on the tip of your tongue.
"Martin, you know that we're not the same anymore", you spoke. Nervously, you smooth out the fabric of you shirt, clearly in search of a reaction but the man didn't do anything which in return frustrated you. Weren't you worth a reaction, a word or a gesture?
"I do love you though, but this is hard. This", you pointed between the pair of you, despite him not looking at you, "this is breaking us."
Finally turning around you could see tears shining in the blonde's eyes — a sight you hated to witness. It didn't matter how often you saw him silently crying, it broke a piece in you. Before you feel in love with him, he had been your best friend, your day one, your ride or die.
"Say it y/n, say words", he requested in a exhausted tone.
Tears started to escape your eyes, rolling down your cheeks.
"I fell out off love", you cried, "I'm sorry, I didn't want to, it simply happened." Repeating the apology whilst breaking completely down you didn't notice how Martin made his way up to you. Gently, he pulled you in his strong arms, caressing your back, letting you cool down.
After a while your tears dried up but you stayed in his arms, enjoying the feeling of your head resting against his chest. His heart beat like crazy; he'd announce the final words, that you were sure about.
"I fell out off love, too, y/n", he confirmed, "I'd like to make a promise, if that's alright with you?"
You only nodded, not finding your voice.
"If we're going to decide to start a relationship again, we'll not stress about what others think is the best for us, okay? We fought and fought, and still we lost", kissing the top of your head Martin continued," I'd like us to be at least civil, staying in contact — remember when you promised, you'd always be my friend first? Hold onto it, I can't lose you."
"I promise, skatten min."

15 Inventors Who Were Killed By Their Own Inventions
Marie Curie -  Marie Curie, popularly known as Madame Curie, invented the process to isolate radium after co-discovering the radioactive elements radium and polonium. She died of aplastic anemia as a result of prolonged exposure to ionizing radiation emanating from her research materials. The dangers of radiation were not well understood at the time.
William Nelson - a General Electric employee, invented a new way to motorize bicycles. He then fell off his prototype bike during a test run and died.
William Bullock - he invented the web rotary printing press. Several years after its invention, his foot was crushed during the installation of the new machine in Philadelphia. The crushed foot developed gangrene and Bullock died during the amputation.
Horace Lawson Hunley - he was a marine engineer and was the inventor of the first war submarine. During a routine test, Hunley, along with a 7-member crew, sunk to death in a previously damaged submarine H. L. Hunley (named after Hunley’s death) on October 15, 1963.
Francis Edgar Stanley - Francis crashed into a woodpile while driving a Stanley Steamer. It was a steam engine-based car developed by Stanley Motor Carriage Company, founded by Francis E. Stanley and his twin Freelan O. Stanley.
Thomas Andrews - he was an Irish businessman and shipbuilder. As the naval architect in charge of the plans for the ocean liner RMS Titanic, he was travelling on board that vessel during her maiden voyage when the ship hit an iceberg on 14 April 1912. He perished along with more than 1,500 others. His body was never recovered.
Thomas Midgley Jr. - he was an American engineer and chemist who contracted polio at age 51, leaving him severely disabled. He devised an elaborate system of ropes and pulleys to help others lift him from the bed. He was accidentally entangled in the ropes of the device and died of strangulation at the age of 55.
Alexander Bogdanov - he was a Russian physician and philosopher who was one of the first people to experiment with blood transfusion. He died when he used the blood of malaria and TB victim on himself.
Michael Dacre -  died after testing his flying taxi device designed to permit fast, affordable travel between regional cities.
Max Valier - invented liquid-fuelled rocket engines as a member of the 1920s German rocket society. On May 17, 1930, an alcohol-fuelled engine exploded on his test bench in Berlin that killed him instantly.
Mike Hughes - was killed when the parachute failed to deploy during a crash landing while piloting his homemade steam-powered rocket.
Harry K. Daghlian Jr. and Louis Slotin -  The two physicists were running experiments on plutonium for The Manhattan Project, and both died due to lethal doses of radiation a year apart (1945 and 1946, respectively).
Karel Soucek -  The professional stuntman developed a shock-absorbent barrel in which he would go over the Niagara Falls. He did so successfully, but when performing a similar stunt in the Astrodome, the barrel was released too early and Soucek plummeted 180 feet, hitting the rim of the water tank designed to cushion the blow.
Hammad al-Jawhari - he was a prominent scholar in early 11th century Iraq and he was also sort of an inventor, who was particularly obsessed with flight. He strapped on a pair of wooden wings with feathers stuck on them and tried to impress the local Imam. He jumped off from the roof of a mosque and consequently died.
Jean-Francoise Pilatre de Rozier -  Rozier was a French teacher who taught chemistry and physics. He was also a pioneer of aviation, having made the first manned free balloon flight in 1783. He died when his balloon crashed near Wimereux in the Pas-de-Calais during an attempt to fly across the English Channel. Pilâtre de Rozier was the first known fatalities in an air crash when his Roziere balloon crashed on June 15, 1785.
