The Political Manipulation Of Language: "Transphobia"

The word "Transphobia" is arguably the most ironic word that the cultural Left has ever invented. It is supposed to refer to a kind of intolerance exhibited by a certain group of people, but the term is itself the epitome of intolerance. The word "transphobe" simplified means: A person who does not believe that men can become women or that women can become men, and who is therefore hateful ["phobia"] . The term ties a belief in a certain dogma to an individual's status as a hateful or non-hateful person (and therefore as a moral or an evil person). The final crucial ingredient for intolerance in the clasical sense is for the state itself to make laws, on the basis of this concept, which punish the people in question (and such laws already exist in various states, and will become increasingly common if things continue as they are going).

The political term "Tolerance" was first coined hundreds of years ago in discussions of religious oppression. Those who rejected certain dogmas (in this case of religion) and instead held other beliefs or opinions, were denounced as immoral and punished by the state. This is the original context for the political term "tolerance". A tolerant society is therefore a society that accommodates a wide diversity of beliefs and opinions (whether religious or secular). An intolerant society is one which punishes all unofficial beliefs.

Now as I have argued in previous discussions (such as in this classic piece here) the most effective method of practicing intolerance against a belief in today's world is by attributing hatefulness to the group that one wishes to target. Attempting to target a group by any other method will likely just render them sympathetic, but a hateful person is by nature unsympathetic. To successfully depict someone as hateful is, in the minds of most men, to render them a justifiable object of hatred themselves. Therefore if I don't like a particular opinion and I do not wish to tolerate it I can simply attribute hateful sentiments to those who hold that opinion (regardless of how clearly they deny having any such sentiments) and I can thereby successfully target that group and the opinion they hold. For from there, I can even leap from hate to the potential for violence.

What is there about believing that a man cannot become a woman and vice versa that logically implies hatred? The right answer is absolutely nothing. But this is the literal meaning of the word "transphobia". Specialized terminology is being employed by the modern Left as a device to directly justify the practice of suppression and intolerance in the original sense of the word.

Guitar Snuff

This is a Japanese guitarist named Kazuhito Yamashita, and in every corner of the guitar-obsessed world, you'll find his video somewhere deep in the forum archives. I've talked a lot about my classical guitar heroes like Julian Bream, Manuel Barrueco, Jason Vieaux, but haven't mentioned Yamashita.

In almost every slice of life, there exists these boogeymen or monsters that were born for it, and devoted their lives to it. The globally known greats all know of these figures, and they're recognized as freaks even if they're outside of the public's main eye.

Yamashita almost solely exists in snuff films like these. He never had the international prestige that comes with HD cameras and a million $10k microphones, so we're left watching him in standard def thur camera mics.

Which leaves us with the feeling like we're watching Godzilla emerge from the depths. There isn't another guitarist with the combinations of skills he has...his chops are just absurd to a degree that humbles a techincally-obessed world like clasical guitar. The selection I chose to begin with is just a rapid-fire assault of licks weaving in and out of different keys, and he absolutely dominates it. Effortlessly.

He's done arrangements of a ton of the classical canon that wasn't composed for guitar. Symphonic pieces that guitarists never dared to try and tackle because we only have four operable fingers on each hand. And those outrageous chops always carry the day...literally the only way anyone can play these pieces if they have the technique this guy does.

I legitimately don't know how this guy isn't better known in guitar circles beyond this spooky boogeyman figure. He's an all-time mosnter. That's not hyperbole either...if it was just relegated to his chops and his arrangements, he'd be an all-timer.

The other guitar player in the video below is Larry Coryell. I've written about him before, he's one of these jazz giants that spanned a bunch of genres, and set the standard for early jazz fusion on guitar. Here, next to Yamashita, he's essentially a librarian hauled out from the books to play 2nd guitar.

Make no mistake...Larry Coryell is a hall of fame guitarist any way you cut it. And yet, watching this video gives the impression that he had no real business sharing the stage with someone like Yamashita.

Honestly, as much as I'd love more HD and well recorded shit from him, the fact that what we have is mostly SD snuff films kind of makes it better. The vid below has better sound quality, where you can hear just how powerful of a guitarist this guy is, and how he gets the top moving really well.

You give out a lot of good advice, and Ace-related stuff seems to be the topic of the hour, so here i am.

I'm if I should include myself under the Ace umbrella or if there are better spaces for me. Sex is a really important part of my life, it's a hobby for me, i study it academically. But I have 0 sexual attraction or lust for anyone I'm not in an emotionally intimate relationship with (and then I'm a horndog). Pretty clasic demisexual, honestly.

It just feels weird to call myself on the ace spectrum when sex is such a huge and important part of my life, even though most of the time I'm not having it or wanting to have it.

The only person who can determine whether or not you’re on the ace spectrum or not is you, BUT, I can say with 100% confidence that I know asexuals who love sex and don’t want to go without it, but never feel sexual attraction at all, or have felt it once in their life like a blip going by, the International Space Station could be seen more often.

Some of those people are firmly asexual, some of those people are gray-asexual, they decided those terms for themselves, and those terms are 100% right for them. There are asexual people who have sex every day and are happy calling themselves asexual, just as there are ace people who have never had sex and also belong under that umbrella.

I think the most important thing to distinguish here is that libido =/= sexuality, and libido =/= attraction. So allosexual people (who experience sexual attraction) can have a dead libido that means they don’t like or necessarily want sex (there are lots of reasons to not want to have sex, after all, and lots of reasons to be sex repulsed, as an example), and they’d still call themselves Xsexual (whatever that sexuality is), and probably not asexual. Likewise, you can never experience sexual attraction and have a really generous libido! That in no way precludes you from 100% belonging under the asexual umbrella, if that’s an umbrella you want to try out for a while.

Remember, sexuality can be fluid for some, so you can always just try it and see how it feels. If it doesn’t feel right, or you find a better term in the future, you can change!

If you’re uncertain, gray-asexuality can be a great designation. Because it generally means a lot of things, including: ‘I don’t experience sexual attraction but I’ve had sex and will probably have it again.’ It allows room for that fluidity, and that’s why there’s gray on the asexual flag!

Eda's is free verse, and rather lazily at that. Willow's is accentual verse. Gus' is iambic tetrameter. Luz's is also free verse, with traces of iambic tetrameter as well. Amity's is accentual verse with a rhyme scheme of ABAB.

The canonical word order is Subject-Object-Verb, however due to the fact that nouns & adjectives are marked for their role in the sentence means the word order is quite free. However, the Genitive must always follow the Construct. In canonical order, the Prepositional case goes into whatever slot the noun would be without the preposition. In poetry, both the Prepositional and the Genitive-Construct tend to have adjectives that are declined for the proper role. E.g. saying kō ăjō kōs 'light-of of-sun bright' in order to mark for the Nominative. Why, yes, the word for bright is derived from the word for light.

Summary: Y/N has been an intern for six months now at the Japanse Police station. But she decides to stay after a mysterious killer appears with the nickname kira. And it could also have something to do with that strange man she met in a coffee shop.

I've been working for the Japanse Police for over six months and it has been exhausting. Not only is it hard work I don’t get respected being a woman. They think that I am weak and refuse to send me on field work so I am stuck with boring papers and getting coffee. Thankfully some people do respect me it’s only a handful but that handful is keeping me here. My supervisor is one of them chief Yagami he is respectful man and I look up to him. I remember him calling out one of my colleagues for suggesting I simply become a secretary for crying out loud I did my training and graduated just like them and chief Yagami tought the exact same thing. He wasn’t the only one standing up for me, Matsuda my best friend always has my back and I have his. Our friendship evolved quite quickly we were both the outcasts of the police station and that meant eating lunch together and eventually having a drink after work. He makes my life so much lighter with his endless positism and enthousiam. The only downside to our friendship is the embarrassing moments he endures and drags me with him. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

But the true reason I deciced to stay longer is Kira. He fascinates me and I wish to meet him and talk to him and possibly even take a brain scan and see what is going on with him. It’s obvious he is a serial killer he has a pattern like all serial killers and i doubt he feels any remorse. But why criminals? Perhaps it gives him a way to justify his killing he probably thinks he is doing the world a favor and even saving lifes. But then again why not turn in to the police if you can get close enough t give someone a heart attack you can surly hand them into the police? No he isn’t more than a horrendous killer.

“Y/N and Matsuda, can I talk to you in my office?”, I stop my train of toughts about Kira and look at chief Yagami. I hope I’m not in trouble and I try to make my voice sound strong. “Yes”. As i turn around I see that everyone is looking at us just perfect. Doubt washes over my body as I approach his office. That misstake I made with the Yuri case could it be about that? But why is Matsuda then also being called he had nothing to do with it? He gives me a reasurring smile right before we enter the office that warms my heart atleast I have him by my side. I nod to chief Yagami after I enter and see Matsuda saluting him. This is what I mean by embarrassing moments. “Both of you sit down please.” I can feel my heart beating out of my chest and fear for the worst it’s a terrible treat of mine. I swirl my h/c round my finger a of nervousity as he begins to speak. “This afternoon their will be a world convernce about the Kira case and I would want you two to come with me. It will a great learning experience for both of you.” My heart is once again beating out of my chest but this time for other reasons. Matsuda looks at me with a huge grin and I can’t help my face forming a smile as well. I anwser him not wanting Matsuda to say something to excited ,“It’s an honor to be invited to this sir and we will attend the convernce.”

I’m still in shock after I leave the office this is huge opportunity and I’m so thankful to chief Yagami for giving it to me and Matsuda. Now we can perhaps finally be taken serious. “Pinch me I need to know if I’m dreaming or not.” I turn to Matsuda and give him a little pinch we both giggle after that both in disbelief that out of all the cops beter and more experienced he chose us, ofcourse I am not complaining. “This is probably the best work day I’ve had in a long time.” Matsuda nods at me and laughs before saying, “Even better than when I introduced you to that coffee shop with those heavenly cheescakes?” Oh god I remember tasting that cake and being in love it’s the best in the entire world. I make a mocking thinking pose, “No I still think this day is better, oh speaking about it wanna get a drink their before we have to leave we are on our break anyways?”. His faces drops in a dissapointed scowl and he slugs his shoulders. He can’t come he probably still has work it’s typically him. Always doing things at last minute I really need to learn him to plan his work better that way he will have so much more time. But that task is more difficult than catching Kira himself. “Let me guess you don’t have time cause you still have work to do?” he nods and gives me a sheepish smile. “Well another time then goodluck and if you still haven’t finished work I’ll help you but you seriously need to learn how to plan.” He gives me one of his heartwarming smiles and I already know I will get a phonecall at night and will end up helping him. “Thank you Y/N. Without you i’d probably be fired.” I wave him good bye and head my way to the cafe. I mean it’s not my fault Matsuda still has work and a little treat won’t hurt my diet I hope. 

The cafe is only a 5 minute walk not that I mind it the weather is good and I feel the sunshine on my face leaving a pleasant warm feeling. The decorations outside of the cafe are questionable it’s all pink and white and definitly meant as a romantic cafe. On both sides of the door the walls are decorated with many many flowers and it gives a sweet and calm aura. The smell of coffee fils my nostrils and it’s one of my favorites things. How the hell do people survive without it. The smell enhances as I enter the cafe inside it has the same vibe as outside with pink and white everywhere. there are all kind of seating options from the clasic chairs to high chairs, sofa’s and beanbags all decorated with diffrent pillows.The two cats of the owners chairman meow and church are laying lazely on one of the sofa’s decorated with many cat themed pillows, that sofa is the cats spot. Normally I’d order a latte and cheescake but today I want something else so I walk to the menu when a guy bumps into me. Even after many years of police training I still managed to fall on my ass with the guy now on top of me. My face begins to redden as I see the enitre cafe looking at me and the guy. Who is back on his feet and sticks his hand out to help me and I can’t help but wonder if he is homeless. His hair is sticking in all directions and he has some of the biggest bags under his eyes that I have ever seen. Normally I don’t judge a book by it’ cover but this man is strange to say the least. But I was raised to have respect so I go ahead and apoligze. “I am really sorry sir I didn’t see you.” He sticks his thumb in his mouth and looks at me like I am some kind of riddle a puzzle to be solved it’s actually kind of cute. “No need to apolgize but there is a 50% change us falling is youre fault. I have been here many times and this event never occured to me so it might be a higher percentage.” This man is strange no doubt but yet I want to get to know him better he seems interessting and I was gonna drink and eat alone better see if I can get myself some company. “Well again I am sorry my head was in the coulds. I noticed you don’t have company wanna maby drink our coffees togther?” Now he is looking at me like I am an alien no he is analyzing me I reconigze his look. Now I really hope he says yes he fascinates me. “Altough there is a 70 % change I won’t enjoy this I suppose trying won’t hurt anyone.”

MDZS JGY fic promt

I’m thinking about Meng Yao/Jin Guangyao and I think I would love to read a fic of him snapping in the opposite direction of his desperate grab for power and respect from his shit father. We know, thanks to JGS gruesome murder that at some point, after already being a shitty human doing murdery things, JGY snapped hard and said: “if i’m gonna do the shitty things of running this sect i’ll do them for myself and fuck you to death”. Quite literally. 

So I’d like to imagine a world where he, like, not necessary becomes a much better person; I dunno about the JZX and WWX kill plot, or about NMJ. I think he’s very set in his auto-preservating self-beneficing ways, and if you don’t really work well with that part of his chara then he’s not JGY anymore. 

But instead of being, I’ll become the highest in the cultivation world, so i will be finally respected and listened to (uhm, didnt’ work especially well did it? they never let him forget his mother profession when it was his father who was the absolute worst) he decides that while cultivation is still something to aspire to -can’t forget about his mother dying dream, also longer life and health benefits + being a hero, doing the decent thing- he realises the cultivation sect system as it is horrible. 

He was in the middle of the war, he saw it from both sides. He then went to low to high but still a servant. And it’s always blood what counts. He sees what happens to his other bastard brothers, to WWX when he decides enough is enough, and how he himself is still treated by his Sect despite his intelligence and abilities. And instead of trying to take refuge in the system, he is a bit more self-aware or inquiring; maybe he is more idealistic in some ways? But still oh so bitter, and decides to destroy the system from within.

You know what? Do it so he still rises to Leader of the Jin Sect (without prostitutes murdering and necrophilia; he is now more on the side of the common, so maybe he gets the help of Sisi or someone he knows to aid him poison his father and after he gets them a nice reward and packs them to a new life in Japan or something. Or he simply uses another subtle method without intermediaries or with unaware ones, he is certainly able of doing that when he isnt being an ironic murderer shit.) because it’ll serve him, and to be the leader responsible of making sure the so estimated Jin blood is disposesed will make him smug pleased. To slowly gain power and bit by bit erase the division between the noble clans and people who learn simply bcs of talent, scouting youngsters witht the excuse of replenishing the clans after the war and quiting the idiots nobles from their spoiled positions. 

Hell you can even make LXC and NMJ (did he died before or after JGY becomes Sect Leader? Well if he is still alive, NHS doesn’t destroy him, but then WWX doesn’t come back. If he dies before, then the vengeance is still in play, but it’ll be even more fraughted bcs now JGY goals and methods are a lot more morally grey and watching WWX and LWJ confront that would be super interesting O-O), you can make them see those policies and be like, oh sure, that’s a good thing you’re doing A-yao. But also conflict with their positions in the nobility system, as time pases and JGY subtly passes more changes and brings to ruin those sect leaders more entrenched in the old ways and abusing of their people.

 Programs for literacy, for the spread of knowledge and the civil use of cultivation techniques with the excuse of avoiding beforehand the formation of ghosts and resentment appealing to the lazy nature of the rich while eliminating bit by bit the necessity of their existence, like boiling a frog, the creation of the watchtowers still fits nicely and we know in canon he faced oppposition there so here it’s more important still, even more so Su She I think, will be elated with this turn of events and even more loyal lmao if JGY sells it well and JGY sells his ideas really well. 

Maybe he helps XXC and SL bcs it’s in his interest they find success although he finds them naive; but JGY has a canon soft spot for people who treat him well regardless of his common born status, so. Maybe he intercedes with XY and convinces him to work with him taking out nobles reasonably (I bet XY will like that), and manages to avoid somehow XY elaborated revenge on SL and XXC? or executes him when he is too much of a wild card, but we know how that ended in canon... The best bet is making XY see on his own best interest to help in JGY vision but that’s well. almost crack fic lmao. 

OH! Maybe he finds XY before the massacre of the Chang clan bcs he is searching for someone to help him above table and gets to him by offering a more subtle but still suitable appropriate revenge with the pro bonus of getting to do the same to others after and access to WWX manuscripts. You know this has a much higher chance of working, let’s go with this scenario. So he keeps XY out of his father reach, when he is searching for someone to gain control of the stygian seal and wen ning. Yeah, this will appeal immensely to JGY xD

You know, and JGY being beloved by the people, and having more than a facade of being just or fair, but proving it although it isn't in the interest of the nobles. And as he is politics savvy, although with more effort he could certainly make it so he avoids assassinations or walking in a minefield like wwx etc. 

Depending on the NMJ situation... You could make it so NMJ doesn’t die and then they enter a stalemate of grudging respect bcs JGY wants more an ally in swaying people for his cause than his revenge, although he sure could make non lethal things to inconvenience NMJ lol. And NHS as sect leader wouldn’t have the same power to his decisions and reach, no matter if he is more manipulable; after all isn’t NHS a pampered noble in JGY eyes? Who could be sure if he even would follow JGY anyways... 

And you could give it different endings depending on the development of JGY: a success where he gets to the point were factually the sects aren’t bloods based anymore, just a few like the lan (those traditionalists lol) resisting an unavoidable wave of change taht comes for everybody, and the money doesn’t flow in their pockets like a river to the ocean but instead it goes back to the people. 

You could make it so it’s a partial success bcs JGY is still himself and does more than a few morally grey things that come to light with the NMJ murder reveal, but his changes linger and the common people plus others of the same ideal now trained and in process of being cultivators won’t let themselves be cowered by the awful nobility -another big conflict breeding, and maybe it won’t be successful but people have long memories and books and the new ideals of equality would spread regardless, so it would start again and again each time a bit better-. I think WWX POV in this case would be delicious omg, LXC conflict even more pointed. This would be, I think the more realistic and interesting to write take on the idea. Iand you now, I’m in favor of a novel setting and characterization, but to make it more painful, use the 16 gap of the show and nothing else (i haven’t see the show beyond the first episodes bcs i couldn’t take it lol)  so JGY has more time to make changes. 

You could make a downer ending (this I wouldn’t like lmao, but it’s there) so that shows the cruelty and inability of making changes to something so integrated and supported by itself, that JGY loses much to his revenge he takes more and more radical actions that come back to bit his ass with NMJ and JGS murder revelation. I think XY in here would be appropriate, in an antagonist role as in MDZS. But it still has an impact; JGY’s life, despite his faults was still more inspirational, made better impact than his canon self. Make it poetically tragic and a comment on the futility of trying to change society by oneself, but find beauty in the attempt itself which has created community, which will in the future do the true work of overthrowing the yokes of the high ups, educating and helping each other in their messy human lives.

All this ending, and JL conflict, who at this point has learnt much at his uncle JGY side, who has decided to (dunno about marrying QS and A-Song’s death. depending on your take and ending it’ll have different impact) go on with his labor bc he sees the good on it and swears to not be like the worst of JGY. A legacy he can reconcile with himself thanks too, to the experience of meeting WWX. JL is in a more fraught position with JC in this verse, I think, bc for one, he is more mature/not so spoiled and that would make JC glad, but his ideas are at the same time understable and anatema to JC who puts so much of his life on honoring the clan on making sure the Jiang carry on and his name isn’t forgotten but who recruited from nothing during the war. Who sees the danger in alienating the powers of the cultivation sects bc he saw what it did to WWX and he believes in protecting his own and to hell with the rest. 

So very interesting!!! 

You could spin so many takes from this, it’d be so fascinating and satisfying. I’d love to see the chara of JGY developed in this direction, bcs he has so much potential to waste it in so petty goals. His ambition is certainly big enough to believe he will damn well do a silent revolution well. 

Just, using the classics to argue for equality and education and a good life even if you’re a peasant, using the cultivation basis and its suppose use to better oneself and the world in making a point of avoiding wars and violent retribution (to the public, he’s still a bit of an hypocrit bcs it serves him well to have a stick with which to beat his enemies lmao) and instead use diplomacy and a sort of rehabilitation or service thing. Because those ideas are there, in the different clasics and schools of thought (not confucianism, not as much) it’s just that the nobles and high scholars were never interested and used them to argue for a sort of natural hierarchy were they’re in top. 

 Let JGY create a new school of thought, and LXC and others seeing the merit on it. JGY has the reach and the intelligence and the ability. 

The best revenge is living well and destroying the system which allowed the other to harm you, the ideas, the means. Create a fantasy fulfillment ^^

1x17 - Woman on the Verge

 wanted to do this one like two weeks ago, but alas it wasn’t possible. Just one more episode to go and season one will be done.. and I’m going to miss it. 

As usual recap’s under the break

Thoughts I had while watching:

Georgina is obssesed, she also looks fabolous.

I know is his brand of humour but still Dan cames across as really obnoxious, almost mocking his dad excitment about his performance for Rolling Stone. And I did watched VH1 clasics.

Rufus actually pointing out the fact that Serena probably lies to him because she’s afraid of what he will think because he’s really good at being judgy, and yet Dan doesn’t get it.

For real Dan’s like “so I should learn to be someone else around her so she can be herself around me” and I want to pull my hair out

It still surprises that Nate and Vanessa doesn’t bother me at all.

“Are you drunk dialing again?” the show always robbed us of the best stuff. What I wouldn’t give to see those calls. Just imagine it, drunk Blair, amused Chuck, priceless.

Most akward elevator ride ever. Well Chuck at least tried to be cordial, too bad Nate ignored him.

Dan is Serena’s number one on speed dial, no surprises there I guess.s

This such a glimpse of the old days, this was a routine they knew well and one can tell, the three of them helping a drunk Serena. And Chuck being pervy as usual.

I always forget Lily was into photography back in the day.

Dan asking if Nate, Chuck and Blair don’t hate each other, and Nate and Blair are like yes, and Chuck’s like no, never fails to crack me up.

Also I love how Chuck and Blair’s are so matchy here. They look good.

He has reason to be pissed I get it, yet Dan asking Serena for the truth as if he were the spanish inquisition is not the way to go.

“I had three perfect weddings, I want this one to be more perfect than perfect” I love Lily.

THe love Dorota has for these kids, never fails to warm my heart.

Blair and Nate pointing out how they’re not perfect and then Chuck is like “i’m Chuck Bass” like that’s the only explanation needed it, is probably my fave time in the series of him dropping that line.

“We’re the non judginb breakfast club” have I’ve mentioned how much I loved this scene? It’s I think the first time show explicitly let’s us know that the four of them were best friends before everything got messed up between them.

So Georgina was Chuck’s first, and I’ve always get the feeling there was some interesting history there, she going psycho on him, and him avoiding her ever since? Makes me wonder.

The Shepperd’s wedding ended up being more life changing for these kids than the bride and groom. 

Serena left the wedding wearing Nate’s shirt, how did Nate explained that? Where was Blair? 

The whole story of Serena, Pete and Georgina that night is awful, poor Serena keeping that secret for more than a year, it’s also really sad.

Lily’s words to Serena, are such a shame, sure she doesn’t know the facts and she’s worried about her wild daughter, but the fact is it only reinforces Serena’s belief that those that love her can’t see past her mistakes.

Seeing Lisa Loeb at Rufus concerct here it’s so weird.

Blair’s love for Serena, and viceversa is one of the best aspects of this show, and I just love how she went to Lily and set things right.

Nate taking the subway and calling Blair to give intel so she can scheme, it’s a brand new world for him.

Chuck’s always so gentlemanly with Lily, and I love it.

And Chuck and Blair are back for a scheme. Such a short bit, but is one of my faves of them because their faces are priceless, and it’s so them.

Ah Vanessa, always messing up stuff even when she doesn’t meant to. Thanks for letting Georgina know that the gig is up.

She may mess up constantly, but when she admits she is wrong and is actually there for her kids, Lily’s the best. 

The whole Georgina and Dan thing is so ugh to me. This whole plot is so messed up knowing the ending of this show.

I wish we had a glimpse of that limo ride between Nate, Chuck and Blair, with them trying so hard to ingore each other. Akward much.

Pretty much the way Chuck and Blair awkardly stand next to each other the minute Nate leaves with Vanessa.

“I’m a big Leaky Hawk fan” nice try Blair.

Is there somewhere a full recording of the song Rufus is singing? 

For once Georgina is right, Dan ain’t that good, and it’s time Serena realizes that.

I miss when one could take the battery out of the phone. I didn’t remember Georgina did that to Dan’s phone though. 

This episode deserves a spot in the hall of fame of Gossip Girl episodes if only for the fact that is the episode that gave us The Non judging breakfast club. This is an episode that let’s us know a lot about the past, we finally know Serena’s secret and in learning that truth we also learn about the bond between Serena and her friends, particularly Blair and also how her mother can actually do help her and make her feel better. There’s a lot of love in this episode and it’s something I didn’t particularly noticed the first time around. The scene where Blair speaks up and defends Serena against Lily and she actually listens and helps her daughter is one of those moments that really makes this show more layered. Blair is also so sweet and loving with Serena this episode, their friendship is the heart and soul of this show, and it was nice when the show focus on that rather on creating never ending conflict between them. 

The tale of what happened that night between Serena, Georgina and Pete seemed so much sadder to me this time around, because when one stops to think about it Serena is barely sixteen, and yet she’s already so caught up in a wolrd of sex, alcohol and drugs, and she was about to get a sex tape done about her without her knowledge, that’s really messed up, and she cames to this clusterfuck filled with guilt, we know by now the kind of friendship Serena and Blair have, about Blair’s insecurities and Serena’s not blind to this, she knows that what she just did with Nate is posibly the worst thing she could have done to Blair, it’s something that can be erased and it’s going to be more than likely the end of their friendship, it’s a nightmare, and then something even worse happens. It’s so much for a 16 year old, no wonder she runs away, and like Lily said it had a deep impact on her, and one of the reasons why she changes for the better. It was plain and simple the worst night of her life, and she’s deeply ashamed of it, and as such is hard for her to be honest about it, and it scares her to think what everyone would think of her.

Is the promise that no matter what they will support her that finally gets Serena to tell the truth to Nate, Chuck and Blair and when she does they  are so suportive of her, no hesitation, Chuck’s already been helping her with Georgina, and Nate is someone who would always be there for her, and Blair, they’re sisters, and she proves to her what she said last episode, she won’t let go. These are the people that really love her, that know her better than anyone, and it’s such a contrast to Dan’s attitude. 

Earlier today I got some asks about Dan and how he idealised Serena, she herself this episode said he puts her on a pedestal, and it got me thinking... on earlier recaps I’ve mentioned how the relationship started cracking when her past caught up with her, but there’s no way Dan by being Gossip Girl didn’t know about her wild past, he creates the site because he wants to find an in with her... but at that point she’s nothing remotely like the Serena he actually ends up dating, so why did he wanted to date her? If he hated that world, if she partied, lied, did drugs and was very unlikely to want anything serious? So what did he want? The only possible answer to me is that he went into this with his hero complex front and center, he wanted to date her to save her, to get her to be different, his perfect girl, the good Serena,  the one that only came to be when she dated him. 

I’ve been complaining about the show pointing out how good Dan was for Serena, that since he came into the picture she was differente, and how Dan bought into that, how he believe it and why he kept judging her when she didn’t comply to his way of seeing thigns, that he got pissed because in his mind he was like: realy hadn’t she heard everyone said he was good for her, so she should listen to his judgment, don’t prove him wrong in believing in her, but I was seeing as Dan gaining that belief because of the way things had developed between then and people, even Lily pointing it out, and now I kind of think he always thought it, even before he knew her, that she need him, and right now it’s making Serena’s comment of him having her in a pedestal not so good, because he has her in a pedestal not because he believes in her, but rather because he sees it as being all because of him, is almost a pedestal to his own ego. Maybe I’m seeing way into it, but the Georgina and Dan storyline makes me think all sort of crazy stuff.

I know the show didn’t knew Dan was Gossip Girl here, and people complain about this storyline the most in pointing out how that twist doesn’t make sense, but to me it sort of does, I can see it happening, is just that it makes Dan a 100 times creepier, because both him and Georgina are pretending, and this episode when he kiss her, it gaves way to different kind of arguments like maybe he kiss her because he wanted to hurt Serena, because he felt she deserved it, and he could do it because in the end it would never came across as the ugly action it was but rather as him being deceived by an evil manipulative mastermind and by the fact that Serena had led him to believe he cheated on him first. One can come up with many reasons to explain Dan’s actions, if one accepts the fact that he’s as manipulative and evil as Georgina since the start. The only difference between Dan in S1 and the one in later seasons is that he just felt he didn’t need it to hide anymore, and even then it was everyone else fault, they drove him to that point. 

It also makes more sense why he was so mad about Serena hiding stuff from him, because he already knew, and in his mind maybe he believe he could be magnanimus about it, to be like, see I still love you, of course like Rufus pointed it out, he never gave Serena a reason to believe he would actually understand her. Nest episode is the last one, and I’m really excited.

Random bits I’ve noticed:

That robe Serena’s wearing, if I’m not mistaken Chuck wears it too on a later season. I love consistency.

And talking about consistency, when Lily is going through her contacts list, not sure about calling Bart, the contact at the top of the list is someone called Amelia. Most likely the same Amelia that makes an appearance next episode.

I was tagged by @peachiiesims! Thanks for the tag! Haven’t done one of these in a while, lmao. Forewarning: I’m pretty boring and indesisive. 

1. Dogs or Cats? I love cats, but I’m allergic so I’ve only ever had dogs. So, dogs! But I like the idea of both equally. 

2. YouTube celebrities or normal celebrities? Youtube, I guess? I’m not a big celebrity person but I guess I care more about how Dan and Phil are doing than like, Katy Perry or something. But like, if by youtube celebrities you mean like, idk James Charles or something then they’re honestly rated the same as regular celebrities in that I couldn’t care less about them or their personal lives. 

3. If you could live anywhere where would that be? A beach house somewhere with good weather and warm waters. So, Hawaii I guess? But I’ve never been so I can’t say for sure if I’d want to live there, esp with how expensive and tourist filled it is. 

4. Disney or DreamWorks? Disney, bc I grew up on those movies and watching the disney channel and going to disneyland. 

5. Favorite childhood TV show? As a little little baby kid, Blues Clues. Then Powerpuff Girls, Kim Possible, and ATLA as I got progressively older. 

6. The movie you’re looking forward to most in 2020? I honestly didn’t remember what movies were coming out in 2020, and had to look it up lmao. Uh, the Harley Quinn movie looks fun and my fingers are crossed that they won’t ruin Artemis Fowl, but my hopes aren’t high.  

7. Favorite book you read in 2019? Didn’t get to read many books, mostly fanfic, so I guess my re-read of Good Omens. 

8. Marvel or DC? I prefer marvel movies to DC, but prefer DC characters and comics. 

9. If you choose Marvel favorite member of the X-Men? If you choose DC favorite Justice League member? Nightcrawler and Batman, respectively. 

10. Night or Day? Both? I love certain aspects of each too much, and when I see more of one than the other I either get sad or less productive, lol. So I gotta have both in balance. In terms of Aesthetic(tm) though, night. Both for the starry sky and the hazy soft glow of the moon just barely making dark trees and unlit houses visible, and for the bright neon lights that illuminate the streets and set cities aglow with life and color. 

11. Favorite Pokémon? Absol! Though I have a soft spot for most Dark and Ghost types like the former wanna-be emo I was. Also Snivy, who was my first ever starter bc I got into the games later than the anime, lol. 

12. Top 5 bands: I’m not a huge band person, I mostly just pick out like, what songs I like. Fall Out Boy is probably my favorite, though? But I can’t really like, pick anything after that. A lot of pop punk and clasic rock bands.  

13. Top 10 books: Uh, Harry Potter Series, The Bartimaeus Sequence, The Complete works of Sherlock Holmes, Watership Down, Discworld series, Gemma Doyle Trilogy. And a lot more. But I haven’t read many books in a while, it’s been mostly fanfic so a lot of the books I love are from highschool or my childhood, lol. 

14. Top 4 movies: Uhhhhh, Inception, Gaurdians of the Galaxy, Howls Moving Castle, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. 

15. America or Europe? America, but I’ve never been to Europe so I guess I can’t say for sure. I like the weather where I live, real lemonade, and weather in Fahrenheit rather than Celsius, lmao.  

16. Tumblr or Twitter? Tumblr. I understand it better and I like how versatile it is. 

17. Pro-choice or Pro-life?  Pro-choice, but I don’t really want to get into politics on my fun sims account bc I like to keep things separate and real life is where I put my political ideas and discussion, not here.  . 

18. Favorite YouTuber: Uhhh, idk, I love watching a lot of different people, but  I guess Prozd? His skits are funny, he makes good board game reviews, and I love his lets’s play channel he runs with his friend Mankey and especially their Ace Attorney series. They just started AAI1 a bit ago and I’m so hyped for it!  

19. Favorite author? I know she’s been kinda annoying lately and idk how I feel about her right now, but JK Rowling literally shaped who I am as a person. Harry Potter has had such a strong impact on my life. And will always be my favorite book series. 

20. Tea or coffee? I don’t really like either, but I guess I’ve had more (incredibly milky) coffee in my life. Unless iced tea counts. 

21. OTP? I read fic more for plot than romance, but I guess the most major ships I care about that I’ve read in my life, in no particular order, are: Tododeku, Drarry, Zutara, Victor/Yuuri. Like, I ship a lot of things (a whole lot, lmao) but I’ve never really had a full on ‘it’s only this couple for me, no other fandom ship compares’ OTP. 

22. Do you play an instrument/sing? I like singing for fun! But never like, learned how to do it properly outside of a bit of musical theater as a kid. I tried learning the clarinet but wasn’t having fun. I would love to try and learn the piano again, someday, though!
