These five artists have inspired me to do art myself and I really admire their art ~ So I’m going to tell you about them and why they inspired me and they will even be tagged. If any of the artists that are in the list see this, then I just want to thank you for inspiring me.

5. Kika-ila

This artist is known for doing Total Drama art, and I was obsessed when I first saw her art! Her style is so freaking cute and I actually think her Total Drama Kids stories are better than Total DramaRama itself. I actually used to love Total DramaRama, but now not as much. I don’t hate it thought. I love Total Drama, but most YouTubers I watch that do TD content are leaving the fandom, like TotalDramaRicky and Noahh, which really does suck, but I can see why and they want to move on to other stuff. I really like the timeline drawings she did, and she even did it for FNAF (Five Nights At Freddy’s) too! FNAF is one of my favourite horror video game franchises, my favourite is the second one, which is actually a prequel! I didn’t even know that until a few weeks ago! But overall, Kika does awesome art and she deserves more attention!

4. thegreatrouge

I love this girl’s art. She’s known for doing art with rubber hose characters, like Felix The Cat, Oswald The Lucky Rabbit, Mickey Mouse and even Cuphead and Bendy! She has made a whole series called “Bendy And Boris And The Quest For The Ink Machine” and it’s amazing so far! The project is currently on hiatus right now, I’m not sure if she’s discontinued the comic and I really hope she hasn’t. I hate stories that are left on cliffhangers, along with “Two Sides Of The Story” which is a HTF comic by one of my good friends Emmy, she discontinued the story because she believed it was cringe. The art? It was cringey at first, but the art got better at around chapter 4. The actual storyline? Yeah, it was quite cringey actually. Can’t really blame her, but I actually did enjoy the story, I’m even doing a redraw of it and might even do a non canon continuation of it! I won’t do it for BABQFTIM, since there is already some continuations of that story. Rouge has also done a Cuphead In Wonderland project too which is pretty good too! Unfortunately, she’s been losing motivation to do art recently, which really upsets me. She’s an awesome artist, and I’d love to help her feel motivated again. Most of her art is sketched, or digital but without colour, but I can understand that colouring in art can take time. This girl is pretty good at art and she definitely deserves more motivation to continue doing what she loves.

3. The-Wallop-Cat-12

This artist mainly does Cuphead art, but she also does Sailor Moon, Splatoon and Mario art! Which is awesome, since I love all of those video games and Sailor Moon is my favourite anime. I don’t watch anime a lot, but my personal favourites are Sailor Moon, One Piece, Naruto, PPG Z, Yo-Kai Watch, Demon Slayer and Dragonball Z. Cuphead is definitely one of my favourite video games, despite how hard it can be. I got it for Christmas last year at it has been fun playing it. I also love VOAdam’s comic dubs of Cuphead Comics and he even did dubs for Wallop’s Cup Bros In Wonderland comics! I was working on a comic about it, but I discontinued it since I lost interest. I still love the idea of it though. Cuphead X Alice In Wonderland. I love Alice In Wonderland. There’s even some heartwarming comics she’s done with the the Cup Bros comforting each other that are real tearjerkers. I also really liked the Size Shifting Cup Bros comic she did. I like how Drama Days (a YouTuber I like) coloured in the comic too. I don’t know why, but I love a cartoon episode where someone becomes a giant. Don’t ask me why I love it, I just do. Probably because of Alice In Wonderland. Wallop is my favourite Cuphead artist, and she is very good at what she does!

Oh my god, this girl… SHE IS AMAZING!!! I’m actually kinda jealous! Her art and animations are so damn good! She mainly does HTF content, but she also likes Invader Zim and My Little Pony. I love her crossover series with HTF and MLP “Everything Is Broken” and I like her Invader Zim series, “Not Your Enemy”. Looking back at when she started compared to now, she has been improving over the years! I really like her fanmade MLP character, Creepybloom. She’s such an amazing and interesting character. Chao’s voice acting for her is just splendid. (No pun intended cos there is an HTF character named Splendid and he’s my favourite character). I love villains that eventually turn good and realise their mistakes, like Sunset Shimmer in MLP: Equestria Girls and Vomitdid in Drama Days’ Splendid series. I also really love him. Definitely an interesting fanmade character. I also love her HTF OC’s Whiskers, Smokey and Holes. They are awesome concepts to EIB. Fun Fact, I actually didn’t like them at first when I first saw them in Part 12, but I eventually grew interest to them in Part 14, since we didn’t really see them in Part 13. Overall, this girl is AMAZING and I hope I’ll be able to animate like her one day. Her animation is so smooth and she is so skilful!

Emmy, if you are reading this, then I just wanna say… Thank you. Thank you so much. You are my best friend. You were the one to inspire me to do the art I do today. You have improved so much throughout the years, and I love every single art piece you have done. I follow you on DeviantArt, Instagram and Amino. I’ll make sure to follow you when or if I get Twitter. You are the reason why I do the art I do today. Everything about you AU makes me so curious and I love the way you made the characters and you OC characters are amazing too. It makes me wish they where in HTF too, like Angus, (Lammy’s ancestor) Samantha, (Splendid’s sister), Tammy, (Cuddles and Toothy’s kid), all of Cuddles siblings, everyone’s moms just all of your OC’s definitely deserve to make it into the show if it ever comes back. I’d love to to anything to bring HTF back. We can bring HTF back together. With all the fanmade stuff people are making, like Amensia, Nemao’s fanmade episodes, Drama Days’ Splendid series, EIB, etc, we can definitely make it possible since that shows that people still care about the show. Happy Tree Friends is my favourite cartoon and programme and I’d love to give it a revival. Let’s all bring HTF back to life, together. Emmy, you have actually inspired me to do some projects and art pieces, like your ‘Cannibal’ comic. It has inspired me to do a comic that I’ll be working on for the whole summer, but I won’t spoil it yet! I’ll keep it a surprise until the cover is out. I love so many of your projects like TSOTSS, Cannibal, Tammy’s Arc, Understanding Nolan, I’m Not Leaving and my favourite is A Stolen Heart, your Lifty X Splendid fanfic and my favourite HTF ship. Emmy, you are the best artist I’ve ever seen and nothing will change that. You art is so inspiring to me. You are the best.

This man is a little show off so whenever you have to use your walking stick he usually swaps it for a more luxurious one, of course it’s still built to your comfort just with a bit of glam to it!

The Henchmen are at your service whenever and wherever literally sometimes it gets concerning how fast they come to help you with something-

Sense walking can be a discomfort to you especially if your walking a long distance he usually has a demon set up your wheelchair for you! He also makes a few follow you just incase

Breakfast in bed every day if you want honestly! Name what you want and you have it!

He doesn’t really trust people with you other then maybe his henchmen and kingdice but even then whenever you need help with something he’ll be there half of the time!

The cup brothers definitely tease him about it whenever they can but they are careful due to him being the devil and all 💀

He stuck to your side almost everyday no matter where you are, he just like knowing your okay and safe!

He absolutely loves when you sing to him, he’s a bit embarrassed about it though, sometimes he does ask you to sing him to sleep it might seem silly but it actually does help him a lot!

He loves cuddling up to you in your guys bed, I feel like his main affection is physically affection! So expect a lot of cuddle sessions

Hates to ambit it but you have made him a bit of a better person, and honestly his henchmen absolutely adore you for that!, they love how you remind him to say please and thank you and actually appreciate their work :*)

You hang out with the cup brothers much to the devils dismay, the more time you spend with the cup brothers the whiner and annoyed the devil gets, bro literally drags you away sometimes-

Like said in my other HC he absolutely loves when you pet/brush through his fur it calms him down so much, and the henchmen have gotten saved by you multiple times by this, if you hug him or brush his fur or even just enter the room he’s almost in tranced so much so that he forgets why he was even angry and just goes to hang out with you

Like I’ve said before he loves showing you off has his partner! And if anyone doesn’t like it internal damn nation seems like an appropriate punishment to the devil:’)

If you have a sweet tooth I’m amusing you like ice cream and most of the time if the devils busy cuphead and mugman tag along

But sometimes when that icecrem man mugman ABSOLUTELY DESPISES comes over he becomes supper anxious and nervous around the man

Sometimes he can hold in his anger and just goes a bit ballistic- so you and cuphead are usually the ones who have to pry him off the poor man-

He does though eventually apologizes for his out burst

Sometimes even though he finds the Cups annoying the Devil likes to tag along just to see this outburst he finds it absolutely hilarious 💀

On another note (sorry for the weird jumps) The devil has his own special box that no one is aloud to touch other then him and you, it mostly contains Valuable items like photos of you and him and small gifts you hav bought him!

Overall this man loves spoiling you rotten, he just can get enough of you! Your love is contagious and it just softens up his cold heart sometimes.. he absolutely adores you inside and out no matter what <3 I just hope you can handle his sassy personality 💀

What is Looney Wanderers?

Looney Wanderers is a "series" that both @ghostie-teeth-art (my main blog) and @linklovepage have been working on for a few years now. The story is about the main character, Cuphead, who accidentally makes a deal with the Devil (who disguised himself as a common passerby and wanted to gamble with him) which all happened in Catreena's bar. Now, Cuphead has to bring the Devil back his missing contracts from his runaway debtors. Otherwise, he will take his soul. Over time, Cuphead forms a group to help him (both of new and old friends). These friends are his little but intelligent brother Mugman along with Ernest the Lucky Cat who brings luck to the team without really doing much, Riddi the Picasso toon who brings the team their imaginativeness, Bendy the Demon who can kill almost anything if the team is harmed (especially Riddi), Boris the Wolf who is the sheild of the group, Catreena the Cat toon who is the mom of the group and is also there for the ride, Allison Angel who usually leads the group and is cautious about possible dangers (sometimes to a fault), and last but not least Jesto the Clown toon who kind of tags along whenever he feels like it.

Where can I read it?

Looney Wanderers is in the works on Wattpad and Quotev currently!

there might be slow updates because of burnout or being busy with other things, but it's happening!

Why was Looney Wanderers created?

Looney Wanderers's (originally called "Cupventures") original purpose was to be my personal reimagination of Quest for the Ink Machine (@thebbros) just so I could have fun with it. At this time, both me and Ernest were still in grade school, and still enjoyed Quest. We even made our own characters for the series too (Ernest's being Catreena and mine just being me but quest-ified). I still have a few vague memories of that era, like the two of us having computer time in class while laughing at stuff we'd find that was QFTIM related, and Ernest asking me to draw what Catreena would look like for the first time. As I was getting closer to highschool, I sort of grew out of both my Cuphead and Bendy phase (but I think it was mostly out of shame), but then after a few years into highschool, I looked back at Cupventues and decided that it would be at least a little fun to try and make it more original, whilst renaming it "Looney Wanderers," making the characters look more like their canon selves from the franchises that they come from, and completely changing the lore (other than keeping the fact that the series is about a bunch of popular rubberhose-styled toons and putting them into one series). I dragged Ernest back into it, and we've thought a lot about the character designing, and most of all the lore. I think we're both pretty proud of how it's coming out so far.

Also note that I still have yet to learn how to use certain things in Tumblr, so if something doesn't work, feel free to shoot me a message and I'll try and fix it to the best of my ability. Also, some things might be added or taken away to characters and lore.

Most of the characters in here do not belong to me. (Bendy, Boris and Allison belong to The Meatly/Kindly Beast, Cuphead, Mugman and "The Devil" belong to Studio MDHR, etc.) We have only changed the designs, and the only characters that belong to us are Riddi the Picasso toon, Asha the Poodle, etc.

If you've some this far into reading a little about Looney Wanderers, I just wanted to say thank you! Personally I sort of feel as if this "series" has a little sentimental value to me, because it brings nice memories that I've otherwise wouldn't have had.

OK since i have prominent new followers: i’m going to self-promote my writing because why not LOL. of course you can read my writing on ao3 here but here’s the promotion for my major pieces (VIEW UNDER THE CUT)

let’s get groovy! is a paper mario: the origami king (pmtok as i abbreviate it) fic i’m currently writing. while it’s not 100% required you watch or play pmtok for it that’ll help with the lore. lgg! is an autistic love story essentially about king shroomses and dj toad, where i work on my theory + headcanon that shroomses froze himself pseudo-cryogenically and wakes up in late 2020 only to end up being roommates with dj to ‘learn how the century works’. the story is rated teen for canon-typical violence (fighting, injury) and swearing, also they do talk about/smoke weed at some point. this fic is my magnum opus and why i say autistic love story it’s both appreciation OF it and also. shroomses and dj being autistic. it’s also a big focus on the history and culture of early ancient egypt (shroomses is the first egyptian king in pmtok lore), so if you’re also a huge fan of ancient history/specifically ancient egypt, this story is for you! it’s more cultural aspects, like for example kissing and how affection + pda was treated in ancient times, or how shroomses views dj with spite and undiagnosed autism early in the story

crime express is my huge oc story that is posted about a lot here, notably with ruth (protagonist), blu (antagonist), tulip (deuteragonist), so forth. new followers are here for cuphead so you’ll all be happy to know this is my complete accidental replica of who framed roger rabbit? (genuine). it takes place in an alternate 1937 where toons and humans are both existent, but toons are discriminated against (called animatism). due to the time period, required note this has no references to WWII, hence the alternate title, also because the continents are vastly different. the story’s setting is the luxury express, a leisure train that goes across the continent in seven days. (scary music) also where the luxury incident happened in 1933 where blu portobello, now known as the azure shapeshifter for being a toon shapeshifter, mutated a bunch of humans and turned them into toons, and fled with a memory wipe. (ruth remembers.) ruth dextrose, who was there when the incident happened, is paid to return to the express four years later and the story turns into a murder mystery when one of the nine other passengers gets turned into a toon and yeah that was definitely blu. the issue is that blu isn’t there, meaning ruth has to figure who they’re shapeshifting as. since it’s a mystery, i tag all the big spoilers posted here on my blog. the reason i’m promoting this specifically to the new followers is that ruth was based off of mugman and blu was based off of cuphead, both with the show and the game, and the story carries a lot of inspiration from cuphead ^_^

Hi, hello this has been sitting in my inbox for a few days. Thanks for sending it! So in no particular order

1. Getting Expert on MCCI pkw - it is very time consuming but it feels great when I finally complete it + it is very rewarding to see my progress. I only got 2/7 expert completions in the June courses, but now I'm aiming for (and sure I'll get it) for 7/7. Probably should have found something else to dedicate myself to but oh well (I do this a lot - get obsessed with hard video games. See: 1 world where I have all Radiant in Hollow Knight's godhome and my 3 200% Cuphead saves. Idk why but I'm drawn to doing repetitive & challenging things)

2. Talking to people! I have recently been able to talk to/message more people than I used to (0 -> 2). It's nice to have that, to be comfortable enough to randomly dm someone. And in general I like talking to and learning about pepole

3. cc dynamics. This is an mcyt blog, what do you expect? I love seeing the ccs interact, but especially when you can tell how much they care about each other. Bad & Skeppy will argue for hours, but there's a very strong love and affection there that you can feel. When listening to Imp & Skizz their 20+ year friendship shows in how relaxed they are. I will never tire of watching the muffinteers (remember that name?) and listening to the stories of how they all met and became friends. (also rivals & orphan duo (name for Skeppy & Techno) & ranchers will always have my heart)

4. People in general. I love seeing the best of humanity, I have a whole tag dedicated to it. I love seeing displays of companionship and comradery. I love seeing strangers helping each other out and connecting. I love seeing people having fun, experiencing infectious joy. I love the knowledge that every person that I see on the street has their own life, their own ambitions, their own loves. Us humans can be pretty great sometimes and I love to see that.

5. The ocean/the beach. I like cool weather, I like the wind, and I like the smell & the sound. Once in a science camp/school field trip I would wake up early and read on an empty beach and it was very peaceful. On one trip I dug a hole so deep I somehow found a tennis ball. I dunno, maybe it's because I don't get to go that often but I find the beach very nice to go to.

🎃Inktober of 2022 - Day 7: 😈Devil

🇵🇷Me: My p-pal isn’t the only one who’d posted his Devil Inktober art from yesterday. Thankfully though is finally finished before I can even make some more Inktober drafts in the works. For today’s Inktober is having my own Devil artwork, but with this Devil from an indie game ☕️Cuphead! Speaking in which, I haven’t gone through posted more videos from playing the Cuphead DLC lately, but don’t worry it’ll still come. Anyways, this is a first time I ever drawn Cuphead’s own devil while trying to made it menacing. As you can see, it appears that he had Choco who dressed as Dante from Devil May Cry series. Though giving the fact that he was so close trying to take this devil down, things will get quickly get missing. Where’s Cuphead and Mugman when he needs them?

🐰🍫Choco: I hear that! But right now, I’m still paralyzed in fear when facing this devil that BIG! Don’t know how long it will take to beat him with my sword on hand. I would’ve brought my own guns, but my mom won’t let me because “it’s dangerous”. Can’t believe I had to say this, but….HELP!!

🇵🇷Me: Oh, boy….😰 Hoping he’ll be fine eventually.

FIC: Protective Elder Kettle

Summary: King Dice discovers just how seriously Elder Kettle takes his job as Cuphead and Mugman’s guardian and caretaker.

“LET ME GO!!”

Cuphead held on tightly to the handle of the little wooden gate outside the cottage with one hand, while his other hand was being held tightly by the former radio show host King Dice.

“Never! You’re wanted by the Devil, and the Devil always gets his man, so you’re coming with me whether you like it or not!” The King shouted as he tightened his grip ever so slightly.

With a few tugs from the foul man, Cuphead’s grip on the gate handle loosened and gave way, but before King Dice could get anywhere with him, Mugman took hold of his brother’s arm, and with his own feet firmly planted against a rock, held them all in place. “His soul debt expired! The Devil isn’t after him for that anymore, so there’s no reason for you to kidnap him!” the blue brother screamed angrily, trying to seem threatening. Alas, it was to no avail; as the King was not the least bit phased.

“I am very aware of the state of his soul debt, but he is solely responsible for the destruction of the Carn-Evil, AND not to mention my demotion from being the boss’s Number 1!”

King Dice sent a hard kick to Mugman’s gut, knocking the wind out of him and causing the mug child to let go of Cuphead and fall to the ground, coughing and gasping for air.

“MUGSY!!” Cuphead cried in peril upon seeing his brother in pain. He managed to free himself from his captor, but he didn’t get very far before he was grabbed again. This time, King Dice held him tight against his chest with both arms. “NO, LET GO OF ME!! MUGSY, HELP!!”

The King laughed. “That’s right, struggle ‘till your heart’s content! That way you’ll be too tired to try and escape once we get to the boss’s domain!”

He only travelled a few feet before he began to hear the sound of rapid footsteps from behind him getting closer. When he turned his head around to see who it was, he didn’t even get a good look at them before they punched him hard across the face. He hit the ground with a thud, and felt a sharp sting when he reached up to touch his now swollen cheek. He then wiped his mouth with his glove, thinking he was drooling, however he thought differently once he saw the deep crimson stain on said glove.

A shadow crept over him, and when he looked up, he saw the culprit behind the painful punch.

Cuphead and Mugman’s guardian and adopted grandfather looked like a mountain from the ground. His hands were balled into tight fists, and the menacing glare he gave could send chills up anyone’s spine, even the Devil’s. To put it short, this kettle was just about steaming. Cuphead and Mugman peered down at King Dice from behind their caretaker; Mugman with a nervous expression and Cuphead with a smug grin.

“Keep your wretched hands away from my boys.” the elderly kettle spoke finally. “And while you’re at it, get off my property.” he added, cracking his knuckles. This prompted King Dice to lift himself from the ground and hightail it out of there. As soon as he disappeared into the distance, the three family members were able to relax.

“Are you two ok?” Elder Kettle asked the boys with worry in his tone. “Yeah, we’re ok!” Cuphead answered enthusiastically. “It still kinda hurts where he kicked me...” Mugman answered with a mildly painful expression.

“Why don’t you lie down for a little bit while Cuphead helps me make a nice, big pot of hot soup for dinner?” Elder Kettle began leading them back to the cottage as the boys licked their lips. “Sounds delicious!” Mugman exclaimed. “You’re the best, Elder Kettle!” Cuphead cheered.

Elder Kettle simply chuckled as they made their way inside.

Welcome to Lifelight!

Lifelight is an au (more of an original story than an au, really) of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where the roster- mostly the Miis- is tasked with exploring the universe and learning about the myths surrounding its creation so they can rid the world of demons that have started to ambush certain locations. It’s a pretty simple outline of a plot, but I’m still working on everything going on.

There’s a chance I’ll make a Lifelight comic, but it’s slim- this blog is just where I’ll dump my ideas & art, and also an ask blog! Here, you can talk to the characters- sometimes accompanied with a picture! There will also be some in character posts

I’m not the most knowledgeable in every franchise represented in Smash- I play Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Mario, Kirby, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft (I also am pretty familiar with Earthbound), so info on fighters from any other series would be helpful!

There are a few characters who aren’t playable in Smash/not in Smash at all that are in Lifelight because I can do what I want. These are:

Did you know? There’s a difference between:

“Can you make this game more accessible( for Disabled people)?”

and

“This game is too hard please add an easy mode”?

Celeste knew that difference, but Gamers who fucking go on Youtube with Cuphead difficulty discourse don’t.

An option to change the game's physics and such for players with physical disabilities #For an example: There's a video of a partially blind man playing Celeste and he's using the assist mode #3. If you have alternate modes that really helps for people with Autism #Cause we can get rather pissed and upset with hard games (trust me I get way too mad playing Just Shapes and Beats)#Unwinding with something in your game that's a little easier or is less competitive can really help #Like the online mode for JSAB where there's less stakes and you can practise in a friendly way with other people #That's all the suggestions I got #Please add more in the comments if ya'll got any ideas or recommendations #Anyways yada yada blah blah I talk too much :P

ok that ask you answered earlier about the toonkind dnd stuff sent me down a rabbit hole and I'm kind of obsessed with the rubber hose cartoon style right now haha. would you happen to have any recommendations for media or artists that use that style? 👀

also if u don't mind would you wanna talk a little bit about how you got into that style for Lucky Jack, or maybe how you learned to use the style? I kinda wandered through your tags and a lot of the art you have for that character/story is really fun.

So! The big ones to look at would be Fleischer studios and old Disney, where the style originated from (approximately 1930s).

Out of recent examples though, the best one to look at is probably Cuphead!

The bosses all have a nice variety of shapes and motifs- just to show that there's more than just the "Main Character Default Shape"

Another nice example of "modern" rubberhose is the mickey mouse shorts! You can find those on youtube.

Theres a guy on twitter who makes really neat rubberhose loop animations but i cannot for the life of me recall his url.

Honorable mention to Felix Colgrave who has some rubberhose inspiration in his art and animation!! I wouldn't call it straight up rubberhose but its still really neat. (go check out DOUBLE KING on youtube! warning for blood and violence and. general weirdness)

Now, about Jack:

I made pretty much the moment I heard abt toonkind, ahah. I've always found rubberhose to be really charming.

Jack is quite a bit more streamlined towards my own style- he's often got more somewhat more defined elbows and knees in the bent position and a more slim body than classic rubberhose. (not to mention I keep forgetting to give him pie-cut eyes). He lacks some of the roundness/squishyness that old rubberhose has, i think?

When designing him, I didn't really do a whooooole lotta active research on rubberhose. It was more like I picked up bits and pieces from media I'd seen before for him.

I'm not sure how to describe "using" the style- I guess the best advice i can think of is to think of is as a collection of simple shapes? A sphere on top of a cylinder with a bunch of tubes stuck to it for limbs.

I do find that posing is just as important as design though.

For that, animation and storyboarding tips are also really helpful to look at. Squash and Stretch being the biggest one I can think of rn. Even if you don't plan to do a Straight Up Animation I think it's pretty helpful to know for drawing action.

I had a toon oc years before Jack named Timothy Inkwell that i used as a base for Jack's design, and Timmy himself was partially inspired by Oswald The Rabbit!

Quomodo Mundus Cadit - Chapter 3

The defeat of the Devil should have been the end of it. The Cup Brothers won and all debts were to be forgiven.

At least…that was the original plan. No one was expecting the world to fall apart. Whatever was contained in the Devil was not unleashed onto the world. Now it’s up to two powerless children, a dice with no title, and a immortal being with no powers to fix what’s become broken.

They had spent a few good minutes just staring at Woodford’s unmoving form. Saying nothing, not even glancing at the other to see the other’s reaction.

“Do…Do we bury him?” Mugman eventually whispered.

“I think someone took the shovels,” Cuphead replied weakly, “and the dirt’s too tough to dig by hand.”

“We can’t just leave him here.”

“...We might not have much of an option.”

It was decided the most they could do was deliver some parting words before leaving. Mugman clearly distraught about leaving someone on their front lawn. Only pulling away from the scene when Cuphead had to physically move him. The brothers in hand as they walked down the deserted path once more. Leaving the dead and the destroyed house.

“What now?” Mugman asked as they exited the forest, “Where do we go?”

“I…don’t know.”

They stood there, at the entrance of the forest they’d spent so long exploring when they were young. Or, well, younger. There was no one on this Isle, or any Isle, that they were related to. If the silence they were greeted to when they arrived was an ominous indication that none of their friends or neighbors survived. Anyone else they’d come across had to be viewed as a threat. None of the Isles could be seen as sustainable, but leaving would be a big risk. What if out there was as worse as here?

“What if we go back to the Casino?” Mugman offered. Wincing slightly at Cuphead’s harsh glare.

“Why would we ever go back there?”

“I don’t like it either, but the Devil and King Dice might have survived. They might be our best bet.”

“That doesn’t mean they would want to help us!”

“But what other choice do we have other than to try?”

Cuphead hated how true that statement was.

It was strange how the journey returning to Hell was quieter than returning home. A point that neither brothers liked, but were thankful for. No one to run into for help. But also, no one trying to decide to try and rob them…or worse.

Their luck ran out upon reaching Isle Two. Among the ruins of a city near where the carnival once stood. Walking down the main roads, Cuphead tensed when a bottle was thrown in their path, shattering on contact with the ground. Glaring at the four beings that exited from the crumbling buildings as they laughed and brandished their makeshift weapons. Cuphead immediately pushed Mugman behind him. Not that it mattered as they were completely surrounded.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here? What are you two little kids doing out here? By yourself no less. Not a responsible adult in sight.” One of the bandits said in a falsely sweet tone.

“None of your business.” Cuphead snapped.

“Oh, testy little boy. A little firecracker this one. We haven’t seen fight like that in a while. Ain’t that right boys?” There were the calls of ‘Yeah!’ and ‘You said it Eddie.’ from the rest.

“Please, we don’t want to fight,” said Mugman, as he stared down at Cuphead’s back, “W-We’re just trying to pass through.”

“No problem, no problem. But I’m afraid there is a tad fee to use this road.”

“We…We don’t have money.”

“Not a problem! Just lay out your belongings and we’ll take whatever fancies us.”

“You ain’t taking anything from us. Go suck an egg you tattered waste of air.” Cuphead bit back. Eyes on Eddie, the cup wasn’t prepared for the punch to the side of the head.

“Cuphead!” Mugman panicked, grabbing his brother’s hand to keep him upright. Trying to avoid a possible new crack.

The ruckus laughter that occurred with the given blow was suddenly cut off. Eyes narrowing at the two brothers.

“Did you just say Cuphead?” Eddie asked.

“What’s it to you.” Said cup snipped back standing back up.

“If we knew we were in the presence of such celebrities, we would have pulled out the better welcome mat. Can you believe it boys? We stumbled across the very beings that brought the Devil down!” The surrounding group gave a few chuckles. Cuphead frowned at how uneasy and dark this turned. “Let’s give them a warm welcome.”

Cuphead quickly broke to the left while pushing Mugman the opposite direction. Both just barely avoided the knife that was now plunged and subsequently stuck in the dirt where they once stood.

“Run Mugsy!” Cuphead called out. Swinging the sword to block another attack.

Mugman attempted to do so. Only to find it difficult to run in a straight line with only one eye. He didn’t get far before a bandit beat him out to block his path. Narrowly avoiding the swing of a wooden board. The sudden movement caused Mugman to lose his balance and stumbled forward. Wincing at the pain and cracking sound when his face hit hard pavement.

Cuphead’s focus on keeping the bandits away was broken hearing his brother’s cry of pain. Turning in panic to find the other on the ground with the bandit standing over him. “Mugman!”

The cup had barely taken a step when something was bashed into the back of his head. Collapsing to the ground, head ringing as he attempted to get back up. Blurred vision landing on Mugman, who was handing a hand over his injured eye. “M-Mugsy…”

“Was this is? That was all you had to offer?” Eddie laughed as he towered over the brothers. “You two were actually a threat to the Devil himself? What an joke. This is going to be an easy job-”

There was a pause in the discussion. Something behind Cuphead pulling Eddie’s attention away. The young cup felt sick when he was suddenly picked up, him and Mugman being head locked by another bandit. Cuphead let out a strangled grunt of pain as he attempted to break free. Stilling when he sees the scene before him.

King Dice was walking towards them. Small knife in hand that was already covered in blood as he stalked towards them. Behind Dice lay two unmoving bodies. The dry dirt soaked with red liquid after so many days. Eddie was brandishing his weapon, a piece of glass with fabric wrapped around the end he was currently holding, out at the brothers. Dangerously close to Mugman’s eye.

“The hell do you want.” Eddie demanded, glaring at Dice. Who had just stopped short, outside the range of attack.

“The two boys you currently have, if you don’t mind.” Dice replied calmly. Cuphead a little unnerved at how cool the other sounded.

“Why do you care about these little brats. We’re doing them a favor.”

“By toying with them? How kind,” Dice rolled his eyes, “But I’m going to say, on their behalf, they would like to stay. So, for your own good, release them. Unless you want to end up like your companions.”

“Eddie, I think we should listen. It’s not worth it.” The bandit holding the brothers whispered desperately.

At that, Eddie let out a low growl. Cuphead wincing at the sound. It set him on edge for some reason. “But they said- …Fine. Drop them.”

Cuphead recovered from the drop quickly. As soon as he was on his feet, he rushed over the Mugman. Moving them away from the bandits and right behind Dice. Cuphead ignored the rest of the conversation as he looked his brother over. A brief moment of relief hitting when he didn’t see any further damage.

“He’s not healing.”

Cuphead didn’t admit he flinched when Dice suddenly appeared next to him. “We couldn’t find all the pieces.”

His hands were shaking. He knew he was reaching another breaking point. Cuphead was feeling the exhaustion finally creeping up on him and settling on his shoulders. He was so absolutely tired and it was barely a week that had passed.

Adrenaline picked back up as Dice knelt next to the. Cuphead quickly pulled the sword back out and pointed it towards the other. Dice placing his hands up.

“I just want to look. I’ll be careful.”

For whatever reason, Cuphead realized how genuine Dice sounded. Even remembering that Dice had killed people to get the brothers out of harm's way. That didn’t mean he fully trusted the other. Cuphead cautiously stepped back to allow Dice room, but kept the sword up. Even if his arms were still shaking.

The cup was overly appreciative when Dice was gentle. Touches to Mugman’s cheeks and chin light and gentle. “Do you know how this happened?”

“...Not really.” Cuphead answered honestly.

Dice let out a slow sigh. “I’m afraid there’s not much I can do… When was the last time you two ate.”

“This morning.”

“Good…” Dice gave a nod as if it settled some matter, “Well, come along. It won’t do us any good to be out here like sitting ducks.”

As the other started to stand, both Dice and Cuphead were shocked when Mugman weakly raised his arms. A silent request to be picked up. It was a few seconds before Dice let out a small sigh, easily lifting the young mug up. Cuphead shocked again when, with one arm supporting Mugman, Dice offered his free hand to the cup.

“I’m fine.” Cuphead replied, feeling awkward.

“I know,” Dice said easily, “But this is so I don’t lose you.”

Cuphead looked between the offered hand and Dice’s face. The same individual who was once seen as a threat was now a beacon of relief. The cup not fully sure if he could absolutely trust the other quiet yet. But knowing someone more capable would be watching after them was a comfort that Cuphead longed for. For such a long time.

Placing the sword away, Cuphead slowly took the offered hand. Dice giving a comforting squeeze before leading the way. To where, Cuphead wasn’t sure. But he was so dead on his feet he didn’t really care.

Until they arrived at their destination and saw the Devil. Resting by the fire, looking as if he didn’t have a care in the world. Dressed in rags, the hood pulled up to cover his face. But his yellow eyes were just as piercing as before. Cuphead instantly reached for his sword once more only to be halted by Dice.

“He’s not a threat.”

“But he-”

“He doesn’t have his powers anymore, he barely even moves. …He also prefers to go by Lucifer now, if you two don’t mind.”

Cuphead frowned at this statement, turning to get another look at the Devil. The being he was so terrified of before looked…well, pathetic was probably the best word. Eyes seeming dull and distant as he stared at nothing in particular. Seeming small among the garments he was dressed in. It was all so strange to see a once powerful being brought down so far.

Cuphead followed along as Dice approached the fire. Wincing when yellow eyes turned towards and focused on them. Quickly tucking himself behind Dice’s leg. Mentally berating himself on how scared he was at the moment. He fought the Devil and won! Never mind the fact that he has no powers and possibly the cause of all of this.

“I’m back, Lucifer.”

“...You brought guests.”

“I’m sure you remember the Cup Brothers.”

“Sure do.”

“...Great.”

That was that apparently. Dice knelt down to place Mugman near the source of warmth. Cuphead dashing to his side and pulling his brother close. Eyes narrowing on Lucifer as he started the other down over the flickering flames. Lucifer, on his part, didn’t seem to care.

Dice had begun placing his gathered supplies away in different parts of this home base. One section holding food, one for weapons, and one for ‘household goods’ such as blankets and garments. Humming a familiar song, Cuphead sure he’d heard it playing at the Casino at some point. After everything had been properly placed away, Dice took a seat. One between the brothers and Lucifer.

“Well, aren’t we just an interesting sort of group of individuals.” Dice casually commented. Stirring the fire, as if he was giving pause to allow someone to reply. When no one does, he continues. “How strange of a situation for all of us to end up like this. I’m not sure anyone would have been able to predict this.”

“It’s not our fault.” Cuphead snapped bitterly. Trying to squash his fear and guilt down.

Mugman winces and desperately whispers, “You’re gonna make him mad!”

“I never said it was,” Dice snipped back, “However, you did go against the agreement.”

“They’re our souls.”

“Which you lost.” It fell quiet at that. All tense and uncomfortable. Minus Lucifer who seemed uncaring about all of this. Dice eventually lets out a sigh. Shoulders dropping with a tight smile showing.

“Water under the bridge now. It’s clear that none of us are able to change this. Best to move forward before we just drown in despair. Now, you two.” Dice finally turned to face the brothers. Mugman unable to make eye contact while Cuphead stared him down. “What are you two planning on doing?”

Mugman answered, still not looking up. “We figured, if anyone was going to survive this, it would be you. Or, well, both of you.”

Dice raised a brow. “Have you two not returned home?”

“We did. There wasn’t much to return to.” Cuphead said bitterly.

“What of your caretaker? Elder Kettle, wasn’t it? Where is he, I’m sure he’s worried.” Dice frowned at the reaction. Mugman gave a heavy sob as he curled closer to Cuphead. Who was now staring bitterly into the fire.

“He wasn’t there.” Came the eventual reply.

“Do you know where he is?”

“No.” said Cuphead while Mugman shook his head.

Dice gave a small hum of understanding. “I see… What do you assume we would be able to do for you two?”

“We just wanted answers.”

“I’ll give you all I know. That thing that’s been sucking the planet dry was the power held by the Devil. Due to this, the being now known as Lucifer isn’t able to do much of anything. He has no powers and, as you can tell, doesn't really want to do anything.”

“Hey,” Lucifer whined, “I know that’s true, but still. That was rude.”

“Wait, was this the same power that attacked us?” Mugman asked.

“Attacked you?” Dice sounded alarmed, “It attacked you and you’re both alive.”

“Obviously.” Cuphead snorted.

“Don’t be sassy with me child. You’ve seen the damage that’s been done by this thing. How are you two still alive?”

“Probably because of that borrowed power.” Lucifer casually answered.

Dice let out a sigh of silent frustration with the quiet that followed the statement. “Care to explain further.”

“I know that power you two once held. It’s something I saw before by a group of pests called the Calix Animi. A bunch of mortals that broke the ‘Godly’ code, if you will. Creating powers and weapons that rivaled my own. Think of it as an early version of you two. Destroying plans because they felt they had some stupid ‘moral code’ to follow. Sort of the reason why I ended up in the Isles. They weren’t able to follow me at that time.”

“They sort of died out when they became too greedy. Mortal bodies could only handle so much power before they broke. Figured you two were descendants when I first saw you. Just didn’t think you’d still have that power available to you.”

“Anyway, back to the main part. Either that vile substance saw you two as powerful hosts or wanted to steal that power for itself. Whatever the reason, your borrowed power was able to keep you safe. You survived, but the power broke. Along with the unfortunate side effects of having too much at once.” Lucifer ended with running a finger down his closed right eyes. Mugman wincing at the action.

Dice frowned at the answer. He was going to ask for more information when Mugman spoke first.

“The Calix Animi? That sounds familiar.”

“Elder Kettle talked about them sometimes,” Cuphead answered, “Wait, hang on.”

The cup opened his bag, pulling out a worn leather bound book. Dice lending closer to get a better look at it. Stamped on the front of the volume was a large symbol. A shield with a decorative border, a gravy pourer helmet on top with two spoon heads on either side of it. In the shield itself was the depiction of some blue liquid (water possibly?) that rose three levels up with a red striped straw laying across it. A scroll of narrow parchment was depicted going fully across said shield with the words of ‘Calix Animi’ written on it.

In the blink of an eye, Lucifer was suddenly right next to the brothers. It happened so quickly that everyone else freaked out. Dice letting out a cry of “What the Hell!” while Mugman let out a scream with how close Lucifer was now. Cuphead let out a strangled gasp and, by reaction alone, quite literally threw the book. Hitting Lucifer square in the face. Who seemed uncaring.

He merely picked up the fallen book and flipped through it as the rest quieted down.

“You all done?” Lucifer casually commented.

“Don’t do that!” Dice screamed, “You freaked us out!”

“And you stole our book!” Cuphead’s glare was back as he stomped over to Lucifer. Only to be stopped when Mugman grabbed onto his hand.

“You threw it at me. Now hush and listen. You have a gold mine of information at your fingertips! Even with as weak as we are, if we have the weapons the Calix Animi create, we could bring the power down.”

“But you said they died out,” said Mugman.

“The generations died out, the people died out. Not the weapons. Items that powerful I doubt could be destroyed. My guess is that the Calix Animi decided to hide these away. Which, the location might be in the book here.”

“But we can’t read it.”

“You can’t, but I can. It’s in a dead language that was lost eons ago. I might be a little rusty. But I’ll get into the swing of things soon enough.”

“So…we could fix this?” Cuphead asked eagerly.

“Possibly. But I would need time to look this over. …If you trust me on this, that is.”

The air became tense once more as the situation settled back down. Dice turned his attention to the brothers. Mugman was looking down at the ground in concentration, still keeping a grip on Cuphead’s hand. The cup, on his part, was clearly weighing his options.

It was a big decision. Putting trust in your greatest enemy? Sounds like a terrible idea. But if there was a way to fix all of this? Well, what was their other option. Plus the brothers had planned on finding the other two. So this does somehow work in their favor.

“...Okay.” Cuphead eventually conceded.

Lucifer nodded before opening the book onto the first page. “Like I said, this will take awhile. I’ll need at least a day to go through this.”

“Then we’ll let you work,” said Dice, “Cuphead, Mugman, I’ll ask for your help in packing. Hopefully we’ll have enough space for everything. I’d rather not leave anything behind…”

Lucifer didn’t hear the reply as he settled himself back down. Paying no attention as the other three scrambled around to collect and pack what they could. Not breaking as food was cooked and distributed or when the rest fell asleep for the night. The fire being the only form of light. He stopped when he found what he was looking for. Snapping the book closed, ready to announce his discovery, only to find everyone asleep. The thrill of sharing this new information dying down, Lucifer let out a sigh.

He placed the book down aside as he leaned against a large section of somehow still standing wall. Settling down as he waited for the next day to arrive. Eyes staring deep into the flames.

Lucifer hadn’t told Dice this, but he was cold. Freezing almost. An ache in the joints and bones that wouldn’t go away. Lucifer wasn’t sure if this pain was truly there or if it was a phantom creation. One that was his own mind was forming as some sort of punishment. Or remains of his battle and loss. Who really knew at this point.

He felt as if he should feel anger towards all of this. But he still just felt numb. The first spark of any major emotion only arrived when the Cup Brother’s did. Yellow eyes flickered up to the small forms. Both curled around the other with Mugman using his brother’s chest as a pillow. When he’d first met them, Lucifer just saw them as other mortals. Greedy, gullible, and pitiful when they begged to keep their souls. Second time the brothers faced him, they were overly confident. Which was not uncalled for as they did beat him.

Now however, they were just children. Cuphead clearly the more head strong ‘fight-first-ask-later’ brother while Mugman was the one with the most brain cells working between them. Now lost in a dying world with no one to turn to. If Lucifer was his normal self, he no doubt would have turned them away.

Currently, Lucifer actually felt sick at the idea. He couldn’t tell if this was a good sign or something bad. He was the Devil, or used to be. He was labeled as the physical form of all that was evil. He wasn’t supposed to care about anyone. He played the part.

Expect…he wasn’t always like this. Lucifer fell from grace because he disliked the way HE ran things. The anger and bitterness he felt had Lucifer turn towards trying to pull that power away from HIM. To make sure HE would feel as bitter as Lucifer did. Make HIM struggle. Because Lucifer wanted to prove to HIM the precious creations were not as pure as HE thought. That no living mortal could be without sin. Lucifer only wanted to prove a point.

The fallen being quickly becoming obsessed with hoarding as the years passed. Trying to hoard as many souls as he could. Wanting HIM to suffer. Lucifer turned greedy. Stealing what wasn’t his to feel something. Soon those with personal built sin wasn’t enough. He wanted to show HIM how easily the creations could be swayed towards sin. How easily they could fall, just as Lucifer did.

Lucifer wanted to feel fulfilled. But this did nothing, the hole only growing wider and wider.

Until…

Eyes now turned towards the other sleeping form. Dice had his arms crossed over his chest. No doubt trying to keep himself warm.

Lucifer found Dice dying in the back of an alleyway after tricking some idiots out of their money. Some idiots that also had a gun. The sin that dripped from Dice was family seeded. A heritage of back end deals and double crosses that left more blood than prosperity in their wake. The other was more than happy to hand his soul over to Lucifer if it meant living further and seeing the family he despised fell into Hell. On his part, Lucifer saw the potential in Dice. Happy to give the title of ‘King’ to the other, especially when Dice ran the Casino like a true businessman. Like an actual king ruling over a kingdom.

If Lucifer had allowed him to be truthful, Dice was quite literally the only person he could rely on. It was strange to admit.

…Was he allowed to admit that?

Lucifer suddenly didn’t want to be conscious anymore. His head hurt, as well as his chest. This was becoming too difficult to handle. He liked it better when he just felt emotionally numb. He laid down and turned to his side. The fire and mortals facing his back.

holy hell, gamers, i finally reached one whole thousand followers! how bonkers is that! when i first made this blog in december 2018, i was just trying to start over in a new fandom. ive been active on tumblr for a looong time (since i was like 11, which is. not great, but we wont get into that). i cant remember quite why i decided to remake, but i never imagined getting a higher following than i did before, but i did! 1000 followers is bonkers, i’ve never had a thousand of anything! i seriously cant thank each and every one of you enough, whether you followed me for 911 or for mcyt or for whatever!
