The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) Commission 10 congratulates ILPS Argentina, the indigenous communities of El Suazalito, Chaco, and the Wichi Movement for Dignity, Justice, and Peace in organizing a three-day event uniting Indigenous Peoples and their struggles.

We congratulate your event from April 19-21 to highlight the important topics about Territory, Leadership, Education, and Indigenous Health.

For decades-long, Indigenous Peoples are some of the hardest hit by imperialist attacks through exploitation of their lands, resources, and peoples. Most of the times, this is done through genocide, militarization, and fascist war against native communities, massive displacement, and other ways through systemic discrimination, racism, and government neglect.

But the Indigenous Peoples, including those in Latin American region, Argentina and others, are the ones who have fought against plunder and destruction of their territories and resources against big corporations and the state.

We salute you and get inspiration from the stories of your victories in fighting for recognition, in resisting attacks from state forces and corporations, and in building your own self-defense movement.

We look forward to strengthening our solidarity for our right to land and self-determination. More than ever, it is essential that indigenous communities link to share their strength, knowledge and successes.

Together with other Indigenous Peoples, national minorities, and oppressed nationalities and nations, ILPS Commission 10, we commit our support for this present and future initiatives to forward our struggle towards a future free from imperialist oppression.

In the town of El Sauzalito, Chaco province, a meeting organised by the indigenous communities of the territory and the Wichi Movement for Dignity, Justice and Peace will be held on 19, 20 and 21 April.

It will be attended by Cecilio Quispe, a speaker from the Qechua people in the Plurinational Republic of Bolivia.

In the assembly, the following topics will be discussed: Territory, Leadership, Education and Indigenous Health.

El Sauzalito is located at the gateway to a large territory, in the middle of a semi-arid subtropical forest called “the impenetrable”, in which different native communities, especially the Wichi, organise themselves autonomously.

The different struggles have resulted in some recognition by the State, in terms of the return of lands, their administration and the development of their habitat.

However, treaties are not being honoured, assistance is not forthcoming, and the provincial government has increased the felling of forests and the extension of crops, mainly soya.

In the last decades, there have been abuses, provocations and deadly attacks by the police force, both in the administered territories and in some cities of the province of Chaco, towards the Wichi community, and they have responded with demonstrations, blockades and clashes with the police.

The permanent incursions and abuses by the “authorities” within the territories under Wichi administration led to tense days of struggle and the creation of the “Wasek Community Guard”, a self-defence formation that attracted the sympathy of the popular movement and put the state itself on alert.

It is in this context that we must highlight the initiative, trying to unite the different native communities, from a perspective of struggle for the historical and present rights of our Peoples.
