The room is dark and foggy. You could smell the strong lotus and sandalwood aroma in the air. The dozens of candles around the room being the only light sources to the five people in the room. Mei y/n was kneeling on the floor before the Heavenly Emperor's, Jun Wu’s statue, praying before him with his three other friends like everyday, at the same time. He had his eyes closed, hands on his knees and mind in praying trance. His friends, Xie Lian, Mu Qing and Feng Xin weren't that concentrated. The three behind him kept opening their eyes and looking at y/n. Everytime Xie Lian heard Mei Nianqing, the head Guoshi of the Xianle Kingdom and Mei y/n's father, approaching he closed his eyes again and pretended to pray and meditate. Feng Xin and Mu Qing weren't that concerned about Mei Nianqing and secretly kept admiring his son. Sensing the two's distraction, behind them, Mei Nianqing slapped the back of their heads with his palm. Both whispered-yelled like from one mouth, "OW! WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!" Xie Lian snickered beside them. Mei y/n bowed his head to the Heavenly Emperor's statue, signaling the others that he had thanked the god and had finished. He turned around to look at the other four men behind him, "I'm finished, Guoshi." The priest nodded, "very well. The lesson has ended. Go then you four, the rest of the day is free." All four thanked and bowed before him before leaving the room. Mei Nianqing shook his head, disappointed.

The four walked out of the Holy Royal Pavilion towards the cherry field, spending the rest of their day together. The Crown Prince and the son of the state preceptor walked at front, hands hooked together. They laughed about Feng Xin and Mu Qing getting scolded by Mei Nianqing, AGAIN. The latters walked behind them, leaving a respectful space between. They blushed and tried to defend themselves, also trying to hide their jealousy towards Xie Lian. They reached their usual relaxing place, a red cherry tree from which hung a simple swing. Mei y/n let go of Xie Lian's hand and ran towards the swing, hopping onto it. He started to move his legs gently, watching the others sit against the tree. They sat in silence for a moment, the swinging of the swing being the only sound. "Finally, some peace and quiet. Qi Rong has been a pain in the ass the whole day. Someday, I swear I'm going to snap," Mei y/n sighed. He had been Prince Xiao Jing's servant for years, appointed by his father. Only near Xie Lian and the other two he could address the young Prince so casually and actually talk ill about him. The other three didn't mind, rather they agreed with him. Xie Lian felt bad and sighted, "Don't worry, I'm going to 'talk' to him. I can't see you being tortured by him like that. I can ask Guoshi again to make you my servant, maybe he will allow this time?" Mei y/n hopped off the swing and sat between Mu Qing's legs, against his strong chest. The young boy blushed at it but didn't dare or want to push him away, he took a lock of his hair and started playing with it. Mei y/n smiled and closed his eyes, relaxing in the calming silence with his dear friends.

valentines minievent masquerade ball starter call!

i'm limiting each to only a few starters but may add more slots later. i tried to include some baisc information about what everyone is doing, though this is not technically a ~plotting~ call. but if you want to plot beforehand, just send me a dm-- otherwise, if you request a starter, i'll take a look at your plotting/starter call and just come up with something that seems like it'd make sense. please only request 3-4 total starters, since i have limited characters and want to make sure i can write with everyone! thanks for your consideration!

wei wuxian-- going with lan wangji! he's going to be dragging his husband lan zhan around the museum to see absolutely everything, and he'll spend a good deal of the night on the dance floor, too. last valentines day was a disaster, so he's looking forward to having a nice time for once, without worrying. he's very naturally chatty, so if your muse needs someone to talk with, he's right there. wei wuxian starters for wen qing (kasey), jiang yanli (aria), ??-- (2/3)

xie lian-- going with hua cheng! not only does he get to spend valentines day with his memories finally intact, but the ball also falls during spring festival, which xie lian cares very much about. so he's looking forward to having a wonderful time with all the people he loves. if he separates from hua cheng at all during the evening, he'll try to find his friends, and he'll share a dance or a snack with anyone. shoutout to mu qing, who helped him choose his outfit. xie lian starters for feng xin (kasey), kieran hunter (atlas), shen qiao (june), sophie hatter (maig), ?? -- (4/5)

he xuan-- going with shi qingxuan! he xuan imagines he'll likely be here until the very end of the ball, given how enthusiastic his date is about these sorts of things. he'll basically just be going along with whatever qingxuan wants to do, and won't try to draw much attention to himself. he'll also be found near the snack table for a good portion of the evening. he xuan starters for shi qingxuan (sunny), patch (atlas), ??-- (2/3)

sha hualing-- she's neither going with a planned date nor a blind date, though she's keeping an eye out for hunter lance-sharpe at the ball. sha hualing will mostly be finding interesting places to take photos, and see if she can be a nuisance to her friends on dates. she's never opposed to causing a little trouble either. sha hualing starters for doom (atlas), zoe rivas (hali), ?? - (2/3)

liu qingge-- on a blind date with tadashi hamada (atlas's muse)! so qingge has no charisma. he has no romantic experience. he has no real understanding of what valentines day is, and his mask will barely count as a mask. but he should get points for being here at all, truly. he will do his best to stick it out for a few hours. liu qingge starters for ?? - (0/3)

dongfang qingcang-- going with xiao lanhua, with extraordinary reluctance. he will immediately look for reasons why they should head home before chaos strikes. in fact, chaos is just another name for xiao lanhua left unsupervised so it's not looking like the night will be in his favor. dongfang qingcang starters for xiao lanhua (kasey), rory gilmore (atlas), ?? -- (2/3)

chu wanning-- going with mo ran. chu wanning is very excited about this, but he'll be equally stressed about overthinking everything about the evening. he won't risk doing anything that would lead to him embarrassing himself so he'll be staying away from both the dance floor and the bar. chu wanning starters for ?? -- (0/3)

filippa kosta-- going with their girlfriend, amara! she didn't feel much like wearing a ball gown, so she'll be in a blazer of sorts. the concept of valentine's day is 'sweet,' in theory, so they'll be socializing as well as trying to show amara a good time. keeping things very chill and if your muse needs someone to vibe with in a corner of the room, they can go find filippa. filippa starters for mei nianqing (sunny), ?? -- (1/3)

qi yan-- qi yan's going with her wife, nangong jingnu! she'll also be dressed in a blazer and trousers. honestly, catch her taking in the museum sights (because she never has time to come see it otherwise) and making sure her wife doesn't get too drunk. qi yan starters for yin yu (sunny), ?? -- (1/3)

kaz brekker-- kaz is not actively anti-valentines day but he is the most apathetic about this holiday that a person could possibly be. i will send him to the ball because i think he'd use it as an opportunity to talk to business connections while they're all masked, or maybe pick some pockets, but he is not too excited about the ~valentine's~ aspect of it at all. kaz starters for zoya nazyalensky (moon), will herondale (siri), jesper fahey (june) -- (3/3. mo xi-- going solo, though he'll be keeping an eye out for gu mang. this is his first valentine's day in the city, and he doesn't really know what the day is all about, though he's slowly picking up on it the more decorations he sees. someone please take pity on him and come talk to him even though he doesn't look super welcoming. mo xi starters for bryce quinlan (kasey), ?? -- (1/3)

pei ming-- on a blind date with rebecca barnes (kow's muse)! let's just say that valentine's day is the busiest time of pei ming's year. 💀 he sees opportunities for short-lived romantic entanglements everywhere, and he thinks there's plenty of him to go around. but he's going to try to be a gentleman like rebecca seems to want, at least for now. pei ming starters for xuan ji (moon ?), shi wudu (kasey), ling wen (june), rebecca barnes (kow) -- (4/4. xiao chiye-- going solo. he's only here to make an appearance and see if he can catch sight of some of his friends. despite recently having some direct dance instruction, he probably won't be dancing. instead, he'll be taking full advantage of the open bar. xiao chiye starters for nie huaisang (sunny), shen zechuan (june), ?? -- (2/3)

lu junyi-- on a blind date with aluma ruairi (megan's muse)! junyi loves love and will be leaning fully into the valentines aesthetic, heart eyes all the way. if your muses need encouragement to get into the spirit, just look for her and she'll try to gently prod them into the holiday spirit. lu junyi starters for aluma ruairi (megan), ?? -- (1/3)

I have, since then, settled into the fandom; and most of my time now is more focused on Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, and occasionally Yang Yang.

Still, the list is still relevant because these are the C-Actors that are still, more or less, still within the scope of my "radar"

It was more of a series of intimate drawings than anything learned from the daily lectures but Jiang Cheng saw at least one notation from yesterday’s class between a sketch of two men kissing passionately, so he decided to be generous.

Zhuzhi-lang refrains from commenting, mostly because his tongue can’t form human speech. And only partly because he’s distracted by the radiance Gongyi Xiao exudes even in the shade, even bogged down by sorrow. This young man is somehow bright. His intangible glow is vibrant, impossible to ignore and yet…it causes no pain.

Shen Qingqiu can feel the bite of sharp nails through the fabric. “Is…is Master Shen also sensitive?” One of his hands slides beneath to splay against Shen Qingqiu’s stomach; it’s warmer than expected. “Can this one touch?”

But those words throw Xie Lian back into another time, another place where something similar was said. He swallows, not quite sure where he is for a very brief moment. Ruoye nudges its way down his arm to curl around his thumb. Xie Lian rubs the soft edge of his weapon with the pad of his index finger.

“Being dead,” he says quietly, “doesn’t mean you can’t be in pain.”

some little things on the topic of learning chinese:

feel free to start trying to watch shows early, especially if the genre is romance/slice of life (easiest vocabulary as it will match HSK more), or if its a genre of cdrama you’ve already watched a lot of before learning (I always watched case-solving supernatural/crime dramas so I knew a lot more words from those types of shows already, same will apply to whatever genres you watch more). Another easy genre is action heavy, not because you’ll know the words necessarily (i certainly didnt in Xin Xiao Shi Yi Lang or Handsome Siblings lol) but because context in action dramas is way more obvious. If someone shouts something its often a verb (kick him/kill her/he has the X!/he ran!) which makes learning new verbs or items from context easier since people usually DO the action or pick up the object in these kinds of shows. By early, i mean like month 3, month 5, month 10 early. And if you already are watching with english subs, at first you can just try spotting chinese words in the dual subtitles (since most cdramas are hard subbed) and looking up new words as you’re curious (you’ll learn “xiao xin, meiguanshi, meishi, zou le!, ta si le!” pretty fast if you watch a case show/action) and/or trying to guess which chinese words correspond to the english subs sometimes. Then as you do that a bit, trying out only chinese subs once in a while. (I could watch shows and follow the main plot way earlier than I expected to, the hardest part was just building up the stamina to tolerate the ambiguous parts, I remember watching Granting You A Dreamlike Life about 6 months into studying and watching 14 eps then finally I just ‘had’ stamina and watching stuff in chinese only got dramatically easier).

feel free to practice reading with songs at first! lots of chinese lyric videos with hanzi and pinyin on youtube, and with just hanzi, all good chances to practice reading while listening to stuff you like and maybe picking up lyrics you wanted to sing along to anyway. The bonus of singing is not worrying about tones as much, and if you get the ‘tone police’ thoughts in your head when recognizing hanzi they might go off a little less with songs ToT. I used to do this with Guardian for fun, and when I got The Untamed and The Lost Tomb Reboot osts I’d read along to the hanzi lyrics in their booklets as I listened. I found lyric to text just a bit less daunting than audiobooks to text lol.

there’s a lot of animated manhua nowadays on bilibili, feel free to check those out early on. They have the benefit of being a bit easier to read like manhua, along with having audio to help you sometimes if you know some words better by sound than writing. Or if vice versa you recognize some hanzi but can’t remember their pronunciation.

feel free to watch dramas from various areas early on, if you want to be somewhat familiar with different pronunciations. in particular, watching some taiwan dramas and some chinese dramas, if you want to get used to the different pronunciations early on (and if you want to eventually be familiar with traditional and simplified hanzi its a good way to see some common words in both forms in hard subs in shows). Watching some dramas that do the -er change to words more often also helps with getting familiar with how words sound when that’s done a lot versus less, like Detective L does it a lot and The Heiress does too.

#rant #i think me watching so much taiwan stuff early on helped a Lot with me noticing that particular accent #and the changes. so that i can 1 hear it in certain actors #and 2 know what the common words sound like very well in taiwan accent #im a bit less familiar with some accents i hear in stuff like Fearless Whisper #but i know i've heard it a few times because im getting used to recognizing it fairly well

I’ve done all the zombies run s2 Halloween missions:

On Sept 17th, I ran 7.44k and listened to Halloween Mission titled “Living Dead Girl.”

On Sept 23, I did 3.24k to Halloween mission “Horseplay.”

And on Sept 25, I ran 6k but I forgot to bring my phone.

Then on Oct 11, after a break because of work, I ran 3.3k to Halloween mission “wai chu xiao xin.” Well I only lived for a year in China so I don’t remember much, but I do recall xiaoxin to mean careful and wai to mean outside. I’m too lazy to look it up.

My mom just adopted a dog rescued from a puppy mill. I hope this little one is okay.

I like the concept of “Living Dead Girl” except for the scream at the end. It’s a good thing that CD album was destroyed though. Can you imagine if it it turned out to be the real cause of the zombie apocalypse? I am liking this headcanon.

I don’t have any particular comments about horseplay. It is very ichabod crane-ey.

Wai Chu Xiao Xin made me laugh out loud. Throwing rice at the zombies killed them! 😆 If only the runners had known about this before they went through all the trouble with project greenshoot.
