#Yeah well it'll probably pay for itself in a year just by me not having to toss fruit I didn't eat in time

I want a large fruit bowl to sit on the table/counter/whatever, but it's got a clear lid, so you can see all the fruit and it's refrigerated/ventilated to keep the fruit fresh as long as possible. So that my fruit lasts as long as possible and my adhd ass can't forget it exists because it's in the fridge out of sight and therefore out of mind.

hellooo, how are you doing? Hope you’re doing alright! I don’t know how much you pay attention to or care about awards but heard Kieran is submitting for lead drama actor for primetime Emmy awards. I don’t know what my Thoughts are, but it IS the last season, so I have seen a lot of people discuss it.
do you have any feelings about awards for succession? To be honest, the biggest Personal burn was Alan Ruck snub over Nicholas Braun, so I just want that nomination for Alan, LOL.
Hi! I'm good, thank you! And ahaha, the timing of this ask is delightful, because I'm currently blowing up my group chat about it. I love awards season and follow it all pretty faithfully, so I was pretty excited to see the news this morning about Kieran submitting for Lead.
It's always hard with big ensemble shows like Succession to pick who should be submitting to what, particularly with a cast as stacked with talent as this one, but I do think Kieran and Sarah both should've been submitting as leads since at least s3 and s2 respectively, if not for the duration of the show's run. With Kieran submitting as lead now though, I do think we'll likely hear Sarah's submitting as lead too in the next few days.
It'll be good to have two Succession actors in as leads again too since Jeremy will certainly submit into that category again as well. Brian won't, I imagine, and I think he'll now be a lock for Guest Actor, which I'm kind of delighted by tbh. He really should've won Best Actor for s1 (but none of the cast was actually nominated for s1 at all which boggles my mind. The show itself was only nominated for three awards - Best Drama Series but lost to S7 of Game of Thrones [devastating], Best Directing for the Pilot which it lost to Ozark, and Best Writing for 1.10, which Jesse Armstrong did at least deservedly win).
I do think it's unfortunately pretty likely that Jeremy and Kieran will split the vote though for Succession, and probably lead to someone else winning (likely either Bob for Better Call Saul or Pedro for The Last of Us), but in my dreamworld they tie and both win, haha.
But yeah! I think the two biggest snubs for me are definitely Brian not even scoring a nom for s1, and Alan Ruck at all, but especially not for s3 when Nicholas Braun was nominated. I don't actually think the show's had a clear vision for Greg since s2, and I don't think Nicholas brings anything to the character that's not either on the page or just like - - him, whereas Alan's delivering such an exciting, empathetic, funny and nuanced performance as Connor. If he doesn't get nommed this year, I'll be really disappointed.

(unfortunately i wasn’t able to track down the original maker of this gif but this is where i sourced it from! all credits go to the original creator of course :-))
»»————- 🛠️ ————-««
namjoon usually doesn't pay too much attention to you whenever you're hanging out at the workshop with everyone because of how often you're here, but there's something about the way you're acting today that even he has to admit is oddly very...
cute?
and it's not that you're not cute all the time (because you totally are!!) but it's just that the version of you today in particular is suddenly making him want to go off and find a y/n of his own
"whatcha doing?"
namjoon jolts in surprise when a grimy hand suddenly burrows itself into the warm bag of freshly-popped popcorn that he has cradled to his chest and he scowls before turning his body away slightly
"hey, you're contaminating the popcorn, man-" he huffs, quickly grabbing the mega-sized pack of hand wipes from the desk before plopping it down on the countertop for jungkook, "at least have the decency to wipe your hands before digging into my popcorn- also, i'm watching. duh."
"watching?" jungkook frowns as he sloppily wipes his hands on the front of his shirt, turning to look out the open door, "watching what?"
"yoongi and y/n." namjoon hums, popping a couple of kernels into his mouth with a crunch, "she's been following him around like a little duckling all day."
"mm." jungkook props an elbow up on the counter as he looks towards the two of you before clicking his tongue, "...he must've really given it to her good last night if she's acting like that-"
"okay, now you've ruined the moment-" namjoon frowns, his shoulders dropping slightly before he gestures to you guys, "it's sweet! this is obviously a wholesome thing-"
"call it what you want, but all i'm trying to say is that good sex makes you do crazy things-" jungkook snorts before aggressively shoving a handful of popcorn into his mouth, "cravy phings."
"i'd like to argue that good sex forms a strong emotional bond which explains why there are cartoon hearts currently floating around y/n's head-" namjoon perks up when he notices the way your eyes light up at something yoongi says, "look at her! look at the way she's looking at him!"
"oh, please." jungkook tuts, "that dopey look on her face is telling me that the only thing on her mind is yoongi bending her over the hood of that car and just ramming-"
"namjoon and jungkook are arguing again." you point out, turning to look towards the office just in time to see namjoon throw a handful of popcorn at jungkook only for him to open his mouth and chomp wildly at the air to get some into his mouth
"jungkook probably said something stupid, as per usual." yoongi snorts, leaning over to lock the hood of the car into place before pulling away and taking a look at the situation, "now, let's see what we have going on here..."
when namjoon told him that this was a brake master cylinder repair he immediately felt all the excitement leave his body
he hates doing brake master cylinder repairs
all the parts are so small and the handiwork is super tedious anD the last time he did one of these he took like four hours to get it done
overall it's a pretty boring repair job and as much as he wants to pass it off to one of the others to do, he knows that he's the most skilled with the internal mechanics of a car compared to everyone else which he usually likes to brag about but today he wishes that that wasn't the case
"so what do you have to do?" you frown, stepping over so that you're standing by the side of the car and you're not in yoongi's way, "all the thingies look fine to me."
"well, i actually need to replace the brake master cylinder thingy." yoongi teases, smiling lightly as he points at some kind of container, "there's a leak in the seals, which is pretty common since they wear out after a few years. it should be an easy fix! it'll just take a while, that's all."
luckily, taehyung already took care of the messy part and emptied the fluid from the reservoir for him so now it's time to start the actual repair process
"so does beeper have one of these cylinders in him?" you ask, tilting your head in curiosity
you've never actually taken a look at beeper's under the hood situation before so you wouldn't know
(it feels like he's all naked and exposed whenever yoongi lifts his hood up and you just want to give beeper some privacy, that's all.)
"if beeper didn't have one of these cylinders in him, you wouldn't be able to brake, silly." yoongi snorts, reaching down to unclip the sensor from the reservoir, "see, when you push down on the brake, it pushes a piston through the cylinder and forces hydraulic fluid through the brake lines, which goes to the slave cylinders of each wheel, and then-" he pauses when he notices you've gone all quiet and he turns to see you staring directly at him with a dopey little smile on your face "-what? what'd i say?"
"i like it when you talk shop to me." you giggle quietly, "i mean, i don't understand 98% of the words that come out of your mouth when you do, but i still like it a lot-"
"yeah?" yoongi teases, taking a hand off the edge of the car so he can gesture for you to come closer (and you do, obviously), "you like it when i talk to you about... hm, i don't know..." he feigns cluelessness as he stands up to slink an arm around your waist and bring you towards him while your arms automatically hang loosely around his neck, "how the rubbing of the brake pad against the brake disc generates friction..." he lowers his voice as he sits lightly on the edge of the car and gives your hips a squeeze
"mm, tell me more..." you play along, letting yoongi pull you closer so that you're settled nicely in between his legs
"i don't know, maybe i should save all the good stuff for the bedroom..."
you resist the urge to immediately start whining when you lean in only for yoongi to dodge your kiss, "hey, i like you in these baggy overalls, by the way." he suddenly changes the subject and you feel your cheeks flush when both his hands slide in through the gaps until he's able to grip your bum, "big, big fan of them-"
"you- namjoon and jungkook are right there-" you gawk, "at least have the decency to turn me around so they don't see you fully groping me-"
"they can always just close their eyes or something-"
"okay, you two, break it up-!" you hear namjoon's claps echoing from the office as he tries to get your attention and you immediately turn to look at him with a grin, "god, it's like you sick freaks want to rub it in our faces-"
"okay, i have to get to work so why don't you go and hang out with namjoon in the office?" yoongi stands up, being careful not to hit the top of his head on the hood, "he'll let you play chess on the computer if you ask nicely."
"i thought i was helping you out today!" you frown, grabbing onto his hand before waving it back and forth, "you said i did a good job handing you the tools and stuff. i'm getting better at not mixing all the different types of screwdrivers up!"
yoongi can't help but laugh at how needy you're being and he reaches up with his free hand to adjust his bandana
"i know you wanna help, but i promise you there's nothing exciting about repairing a master cylinder." he hums, reaching up to pinch your cheek playfully, "plus, don't you still have a huge research paper to work on?"
"yeah, but i'd much rather hang out with you..." you pout, yoongi cooing before leaning in to give your pushed-out bottom lip a little kiss
"we can hang out when we're both done with work."
"okay..." you purse your lips before letting go of his hand, "it's your loss. i'm a fantastic helper."
"mhm, you certainly are-" yoongi spins you around before pushing his palm against your lower back to get you to move, "now go and bug namjoon!"
you turn back to glance at yoongi one last time and he sweeps his hands at you to tell you to gO
fine!
it was getting hot in the garage anyway and namjoon always has the aircon blasting in the office
"sorry! only sad, single people are allowed in this area-" namjoon jokes as soon as you step in, gesturing to the office space with a grin, "leave or i'll have security escort you out."
"oh, stop it." you giggle, folding your arms up on the counter and leaning forward, "i keep telling you i'd be more than happy to set you up with one of my friends!!"
"i know, and that's very nice of you to offer, but i just want to find someone organically, you know?" namjoon sighs, leaning back against his chair before looking up at the ceiling wistfully, "being set up with someone doesn't feel like a natural process."
"namjoon thinks he's the main character of a shitty netflix romantic comedy." jungkook mutters, the two of you exchanging low giggles with each other
"well, if no one comes into your life organically you can always let me know and i'll- woah-" you jump in surprise when the sound of a roaring engine suddenly shatters the peaceful atmosphere and you turn around just in time to see a sleek car veering into the shop
you wince and raise a hand to shield your eyes from the bright headlights and you don't get a chance to make the first comment because jungkook beats you to it
(for the record, you were going to talk about how dramatic of an entrance whatever that was)
"oh my god. that is the sexiest car i've ever seen in my entire life." he breathes out, stepping away from the counter so he can stand by the door and get a closer look, "a 1965 mustang. nice."
"fun fact: i was actually thinking about getting a vintage mustang! i wanted an olive green one because i could've named her 'olive' which is super cute-" you nod enthusiastically, looking back and forth between namjoon and jungkook only for them to.,., completely ignore you and continue staring at the glossy mustang sitting out front
"okay, you guys, it's just a car-" you roll your eyes and let out a little snort of disbelief, "this isn't going to change your life or anything-"
a high-heel clad foot steps out of the car and onto the pavement and you immediately recognize the classic red-bottom louboutins
you actually own a pair of them as well but you rarely wear them out because you're always paranoid that you're going to topple over and snap an ankle and that would be completely mortifying
they're six inches tall!!!!
for the record, they look very nice sitting (collecting dust) on your shelf but now you're starting to think that it might be a good idea to wear them out again because this stranger makes it look like walking in them is easy breezy beautiful
"holy shit. is that lisa?" namjoon murmurs, reaching up to push his glasses up the bridge of his nose, "oh, wow. she..."
"i don't remember her looking like that the last time we saw her." jungkook whistles lowly, "hello, miss manoban."
"lisa- who's lisa?" you frown, tilting your head in curiosity as you watch this mysterious lisa toss her oversized sunglasses into the front seat of the car before slamming the door shut
"uh, she's just one of yoongi's exes- she actually used to work here but-" namjoon reaches over the counter so he can nudge you aside gently to get a better look, "when did she get a vintage mustang?!"
lisa leans down to look at herself in the side mirror, smearing some red lipstick over her pillowy bottom lip before rubbing her lips together and nodding satisfactorily
"guess her car-wrapping business really took off." jungkook hums, his eyes glued to the car
she seems to be moving in slow motion as she takes her hair down and shakes her head back and forth, the three of you tilting your heads at the same time as you watch her in awe
"car-wrapping?" you ask curiously, "she must spend a fortune on wrapping paper and giant bows-"
"no, obviously it's not actual wrapping- like-" jungkook huffs and you resist the urge to bop him over the head at how snappy he's being with you when he already knows you're clueless when it comes to this kind of stuff, "okay, you know how you said that if you ever got a g-wagon for yourself one day that you wanted to make it baby blue just like beeper and also matte? lisa could do that for you."
"oh! in that case, it might be nice to get a business card from her or something-" you make a mental note before shaking your head and turning back around to face namjoon, "hey, so, super casual, can we round back to the whole 'yoongi's ex' thing real quickly because i-"
"yoohoo, boys!" lisa whistles, grinning excitedly when she's suddenly joined by everyone outside one by one, "what, no one thought to roll out the red carpet for me?"
"c'mon, namjoon! let's go say hi to lisa and her vintage 'stang!!" jungkook grins, gesturing for namjoon to hurry before he's darting out the door, "lisa, hey!"
"yeah, okay!!" namjoon gets up from his seat so quickly that he sends his chair rolling back and smacking against the file cabinets, "oh, y/n-! if anyone calls, just send them straight to voicemail-"
"but i-" you don't get a chance to say anything before namjoon's brushing past you and dashing out the door as well
you don't know too much about lisa but obviously she's a pretty big deal around here
it'd probably be good for you to go and introduce yourself instead of awkwardly hanging out in the office by yourself
"hello, lisa. it's very nice to meet you. firm handshake." you mutter to yourself as you step out of the office and head towards the bustling group of boys, "hey, lisa! so great to meet you. firm handshake. hi, girlie-! nope, don't like that one-"
"-in town for business so i thought it'd be nice to swing by and visit my boys." you manage to catch the end of lisa's sentences as you join the boys, trying not to make any sudden movements to catch her attention
"you should've texted one of us or something!" namjoon pulls his phone out of his back pocket, "we could've ordered a pizza for lunch-"
you reach over to give the back of yoongi's jumpsuit a little tug just to get his attention and he glances over his shoulder at you before offering you a teasing smile and reaching back to wiggle his fingers against your stomach
you giggle lightly before swatting his hand away and he turns back to look at lisa
"well, i wanted to surprise you guys!" lisa chirps, tucking her clutch underneath her armpit before clapping her hands together, "i see nothing's changed around here... except for..." you feel your heart drop when she suddenly leans over and looks directly at you, "hello! i don't think we've ever met."
"oh, shoot- sorry, i should've introduced you sooner-" yoongi steps aside so that he isn't blocking you, "lisa, this is y/n! y/n, this is lisa." he smiles, gesturing towards lisa, "my girlfriend." he pauses and quickly shakes his head at his little flub-up, "i mean- lisa, this is y/n, my girlfriend-"
"he's definitely gonna pay for that later." jimin mutters, jungkook snickering before nudging at his side to get him to shut up
"it's super nice to meet you, y/n!" lisa doesn't acknowledge yoongi's error and she steps forward to get closer to you
she's practically towering over you but it's really just because of the stilettos
she turns her head to look at the boys and a second of silence goes by before they realize what she's asking of them and they all scatter in different directions
you give yoongi a look that basically screams S.O.S. and you resist the urge to burst into tears when he gives you a cheery thumbs up in return and trots off to go and do something else
okay
you'll be fine
you have nothing to be nervous about!
this is just yoongi's very hot ex who looks like a million bucks while you'e currently dressed like a giant toddler
it doesn't help that you're wearing what's commonly known as a 'baby tee' under these overalls
"you- yeah, you too-" you chuckle uneasily, giving her a weak handshake before pulling away with a smile, "i'm sorry, i'm a little underdressed-" you pause to gesture to the grubby overalls you have on, "i promise i look better than this most of the time..."
"oh, don't be silly. i just grabbed the first outfit i saw out of my suitcase and threw it on-" she sighs, reaching up to pick some lint off her blazer that you're pretty sure you saw in the most recent YSL spring catalog (in fact, you're pretty sure it's on your to-buy list), "so, what do you do?"
"me? i- uh, well, nothing, at the moment- i'm still studying for my undergraduate degree, so..." you shrug sheepishly, reaching up to scratch the back of your neck
for some reason you can't seem to maintain eye contact with her for more than three seconds at a time
"oh! you're still in school?"
"yeah, i- well, i'm graduating this year, so i'm almost out of school if you think about it that way- but yes. yes, i... am currently a university student, so that's what i'm doing."
"mm, cute! what are you studying?"
"history! i'm a history major and a marine biology minor." you nod, "so... the cold war and... like, sharks. something like that."
"ah, very cool."
to be honest you're not entirely sure if lisa's being sincere or not but you'll take the compliment either way
you can tell she's trying to scope you out - which is fair, because this is the first time you two are meeting and you're currently involved with someone she used to be involved with
"i'm sorry. i'm probably, like, freaking you out right now, aren't i?" lisa snorts, reaching out and placing her hand on your forearm for a split second, "i promise i'm just genuinely curious and i'm not trying to, like, interrogate you or anything. it's super nice to meet you! and honestly- i love the overalls. the little knee patches are adorable."
"oh, thank you..." you smile nervously, reaching down to glance at the mismatched patches of fabric sewn onto the knees of your overalls, "yoongi actually sewed 'em on for me! i usually wear this whenever i'm here because i'm okay with getting it dirty- i, um, i like your blazer! and your heels. and your purse- a chanel clutch is a classic!"
"ooh, someone has an eye for fashion..." lisa winks, raising her clutch and waving it slightly, "maybe after i'm done talking business with yoongi we can talk about gucci's new multicolour line-"
"oh, i have so many thoughts on gucci's new multicolour line!" you gasp, suddenly reignited with a spurt of energy, "honestly the colour scheme is very stabilo highlighters to me but we can talk about it later- i'll just be hanging out in the office, so you can find me there whenever you're ready-"
"perfect!" lisa gives you a thumbs up before pointing over to where yoongi is, "if you'll excuse me, i have to go and talk about boring things with yoongi-"
"mhm!" you watch with a smile as lisa click-clacks off towards yoongi before you spin around on your heels, giving yourself a mental pat on the back for how well you handled that interaction
lisa's actually nicer than you thought she'd be!
obviously the saying don't judge a book by its cover is very applicable here
"so... what'd you think of lisa?" namjoon joins your side before nudging you gently, "she's nice, right?"
"i like her! she seems really cool." you nod enthusiastically, pausing to glance over your shoulder to look at her from behind, "i need to ask her for tips on walking in those louboutins and how not to fall over."
"you know, i must say i'm pleasantly surprised at how you're handling this." namjoon snorts, holding back for a second to let you into the office first before he steps in behind you, "colour me impressed!"
"thank you!" you reach over to pull the lollipop jar towards you before suddenly pausing and looking back over at namjoon with a frown, "hold on a sec, what's that supposed to mean?"
"hm? oh, it's nothing." namjoon scrunches his nose, dismissing you with a flick of his wrist as he takes his seat behind the counter, "i just know that if i was in your shoes and my significant other's very attractive and very successful ex came back i would be a little antsy about it-" namjoon glances up from the computer and his eyes widen in panic when he notices that your eyes have widened in panic, "i- i mean- not that you're not very attractive and very successful- what i'm trying to say is that you have nothing to worry- you and yoongi seem like a very stable couple so-"
"do you think maybe you could tell me a bit about yoongi and lisa?" you interrupt his spiral and you feel yourself starting to get a little fidgety, "because i- i actually don't know anything about that situation-"
namjoon has a point, now that you think about it
lisa is very successful and very attractive and can walk in high heels very elegantly
and what about you?
yesterday you submitted a paper one minute before the deadline because of how much procrastinating you had done
and you haven't worn heels in forever because they just hurt so much
but lisa wouldn't complain about her feet hurting in high heels
lisa could have a hundred blisters and still walk into the room with a beautiful, red-lipped smile
"has he never told you about her?" namjoon frowns, "i feel like every couple should at least have one conversation about their past relationships."
"i think he tried to one time, but i- i dunno, you can't blame me for not wanting to sit there and listen to yoongi talking about all the girls he's been with, so i just changed the subject..." you mutter, pushing the jar away from you after pulling a strawberry lollipop out, "kind of regretting that decision now."
it's not like you have a reason to be insecure or anything, right?
your relationship with yoongi is very solid and there are certainly no trust issues or communication issues or anything of the sort
...
but he is your first boyfriend...,., and this is your first serious relationship which means you've had no prior experiences to learn from which means you're just going with the flow most of the time.,., so is it possible that you're being a little naïve right now?
"still, i don't think me telling you all the details of their relationship is a good idea because i feel like this is a conversation you should be having with yoongi-" namjoon chuckles nervously, leaning back against his chair before tucking a pencil behind his ear, "sorry, kiddo. i'm not trying to stir the pot here."
"i- oh, c'mon, joon- what's it gonna take, huh?" you reach into the front pocket of your overalls before subtly flashing a folded up hundred dollar bill, pursing your lips slightly as your eyes flicker back and forth between namjoon and your chest-money, "hm??"
"first of all, it's very concerning to me that you stash loose cash in your pocket like that. second of all, are you really trying to bribe me into telling you about yoongi and lisa?" namjoon asks incredulously
"what?! no!" you scoff, tucking the bill back into your pocket before pausing and raising an eyebrow, "...is it working?"
"no! in fact, i find it offensive that you think i'd be so easily swayed-"
"the next time i bring sushi for lunch, i'll get you your own mango shrimp tempura roll." you offer, namjoon staring at you blankly before he suddenly springs into action
"so, they used to sleep together, obviously." he clears his throat, "when lisa started working here, i kind of expected her to get involved with one of us and unsurprisingly it was yoongi, because... well, it's yoongi- i'm pretty sure it was a friends with benefits kind of thing because i remember asking him about it and he said they didn't want to put a label on it? and then at one point jimin asked lisa about it because all of us were super curious and she called it a 'situationship'... which, personally, i think is a pretty cheesy label- i dunno, they'd go out to dinners sometimes and occasionally they'd come into work together in the morning because- well, you know- uh, they were in this 'situationship' for... maybe, like, eight months? and then lisa got an opportunity to work elsewhere and she took it and they decided to call it off and fast forward to now... here we are!" namjoon claps his hands together before pressing his palm over his heart, "and i promise you that's all the information i have- well, maybe this piece of information might be useful to you: they were, like, super horny for each other all the time. like, almost outrageously horny, which i think is one of the downfalls of the relationship because you can't base a solid relationship off of animalistic sex, right? ooh, there was one time i caught them in yoongi's office and lisa was-"
"okay, i think that's enough-!" you hold a hand out to shut namjoon up and he shrugs before leaning back against his chair, "more than enough, actually-"
you weren't expecting to learn about the raw, animalistic sex yoongi had with lisa, but then again, you weren't expecting to even meet lisa at all
oh, god
should you be nervous??
you shouldn't be nervous, right??
...yeah, you're being ridiculous!
yoongi has been with other girls before and that shouldn't bother you because you didn't exist then
this has nothing to do with you!
so what if he bent her over the office table and-
okay, maybe it's time to stop thinking about this because the point is: you're fine. don't worry. everything is normal. yoongi is your boyfriend. lisa is his ex. everything is great!
"by the way, i want you to know that you honestly have nothing to worry about." namjoon suddenly chimes in as if he can read your mind, "lisa was yoongi's past but you are his present and most likely his future as well, so- seriously, don't even worry about it."
"yeah, you're right. it'd be silly of me to be upset about yoongi being with someone else when i wasn't even in the picture yet." you snort, reaching up to smack your own forehead gently, "okay! i'm feeling a little better. it would've been nice to not be informed about how horny they were for each other, but thank you for that detail-"
"yo, where are the snap ring pliers from my toolbox?" you turn just in time to see yoongi pop his head in, "i can't find them anywhere... i swear to god, everyone keeps borrowing my tools and 'forgetting' to put them back-" he rolls his eyes before looking over at you with a smile, "hi, baby-"
"hi yoongi-" you giggle, all your doubts and insecurities immediately fluttering away
see? nothing to worry about!
phEw
it feels like a weight's been lifted off your shoulders
"i think hoseok might've been using them earlier this morning." namjoon hums, "what do you need them for?"
"oh, lisa offered to help me out with the master cylinder repair and she needs 'em." yoongi points back over his shoulder, "you know how great she is with her hands-"
"woah, i thought-" your voice cracks slightly and you clear your throat, "i thought, uh- you were working on it yourself? like, i thought you didn't need any help and that's why i'm in here-"
"oh, i don't, but- well, lisa's good with fine-tuning so i might as well take advantage of her expertise while she's here." yoongi snorts before looking back over at namjoon, "you said hoseok had them?"
"yep!"
you bite down on your tongue to keep yourself from commenting any further
it's fine!
as we've already established, you have nothing to worry about.
...right?
»»————- 🛠️ ————-««
"and... voilà!" you smile satisfactorily to yourself after you set the scented candle down on the coffee table
the living room is going to smell like warm brown sugar and cinnamon in a few minutes and you can't wait
this is yoongi's favourite candle so you hope he'll be excited about that when he gets here :'))
you've been preparing the apartment for his arrival and lighting the candle was one of the last things on your to-do list
you still have to order dinner for tonight and you've always been awful at making decisions so you figured it'd be best to let yoongi choose instead
you haven't seen him for about a week and a half because of finals (and, being perfectly honest, you were the one who implemented this distancing rule in the first place because you know you won't be able to focus on studying when yoongi's in the apartment with you) so you're pretty pumped for tonight!!
you hum to yourself as you click on yoongi's phone number in your contacts, flopping back on the couch with a fwump! while your legs swing lazily over the arm
"hello?"
the phone picks up after a couple of rings and it takes you a second to realize that the voice on the other end certainly does not belong to your boyfriend
"he-" you pause, pulling your phone away from your ear and frowning at the unfamiliar voice before bringing it back, "um, hello?"
"hi! who's this?"
"who's this?" you point to yourself before scoffing lightly, "what do you mean who- who's this?"
"oh- oh, y/n! hey, it's lisa!" lisa greets enthusiastically and you relax a little knowing that it's just lisa, "sorry, i didn't look at the contact name before picking up- what's up?"
"well, i-" you pause again to recollect your thoughts, "um, sorry, i guess i was just expecting yoongi to pick up his own phone so i'm a little lost right now-"
"oh my gosh, don't even worry about it! yoongi's hands are super gross right now so i offered to take his call for him which is why i picked up the phone. is there something you wanted me to pass along to him?"
"yeah, you could pass his phone right along to him-" you joke before reminding yourself to keep the unnecessary cattiness to a minimum, "yeah, um- can you ask him what time he's coming over? so that i know what time to order our food and stuff? i want the food to still be nice and hot by the time he gets here, so i just need a time from him, that's all-"
"yeah, about that... i actually don't think yoongi's going to make it for dinner."
"i-" you frown, pushing yourself up so that you're leaning back against an elbow, "what? why not?"
"the thing is, i hooked him up with a bunch of clients so the poor thing's been working like a dog all day and it looks like he's going to be stuck here for a while... if you're worried about him skipping dinner, i can totally go and get some food for him if you want! there's this sandwich place a block away and i know what he likes-"
your eyes widen slightly at how... happy? lisa sounds about the fact that yoongi potentially won't be joining you for dinner and you nod to yourself as you clench your jaw
"that's- that's very kind of you, lisa-" your voice is a little pitchier than usual at this point and you clear your throat obnoxiously, "i'm sorry, i just really have to talk to yoongi for a second so if you could just, like, hold the phone up to his ear that would be okay too-"
"okay! gimme a sec." there's a bit of shuffling on the other end and you press your lips together as you wait (im)patiently, "yoongs! it's y/n... dinner... hot food... her place... clients... pretty busy tonight..."
and she even has a nickname for him
that's just downright adorable, isn't it?
"god, just give him the damn phone." you mutter under your breath, raising your other hand to inspect your cuticles as you lie back down on the couch
hm
you should probably schedule another manicure soon
"-it's okay, i can hold the phone myself- y/n?" you perk up when you hear yoongi on the other end and you can't help but kick your legs in excitement
you can't help it!!!
you haven't heard his voice in a whole week and a half!!!
"greetings, yoongs." you tease, "what time are you going to be here?" you bypass lisa's whole monologue about yoongi probably not being able to come over tonight in hopes that she'll be wrong about him ditching you to continue working, "i wanna order the food so it'll get here a little before you arrive. also, i haven't chosen what we're going to eat tonight so you're going to have to choose for us-"
"right, about that-" yoongi clears his throat, "i know i was supposed to come over for dinner tonight but- listen, i don't know what lisa did but obviously she's got a lot of connections now and the shop has literally never been this busy before..." he pauses and you hear the sound of loud clanging in the background, "you understand, don't you?"
it takes you a couple of seconds to process the fact that yoongi really won't be coming over tonight and you puff your cheeks out to keep yourself from immediately whining in protest
to say the least, you are.,.,,. very disappointed,.., but!! it won't be the end of the world, right?
you hate that lisa was right, but that's a conversation you can have with yourself another time
and if yoongi won't be here, that means you can hog all the garlic cheesy bread to yourself so maybe this is a blessing in disguise >:-)
"no, yeah, i- yeah, get it!" you nod, "i love that business is booming, i just don't love that you didn't text me or call me earlier to let me know you weren't going to come over tonight," you frown, turning your head to look at the flickering candle, "a heads up would've been nice, that's all..."
"i asked lisa to text you earlier when my hands were full... sorry, she must've forgot..."
"oh. yeah, i guess it could've slipped her mind." you respond dryly, "it would've taken, like, five seconds to text me-"
"okay, i-" you hear yoongi let out a small sigh before he speaks up again, "i'm sorry, baby, i really am- do you- i can come over now if you want me t-"
"no, it's okay! i'm sorry, i'm just-" you shake your head quickly before chuckling uneasily, "i just haven't seen you in a while so i miss you, that's all- but i'll let you get back to work now and i'll see you later?"
"yes! you are the best, you really are- look, i promise i'll be all yours as soon as i-"
"yoongi! these tires aren't going to change themselves, silly-"
"oh, c'mon-" you grumble, your teeth grinding slightly at the interruption of lisa's peppy voice in the background
"uh- yeah, in a sec-! i gotta go, doll- i'll call you later-"
"okay, b-" you don't get a chance to even say goodbye before the line goes dead and the only thing you can hear is an obnoxious beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep- "-ye."
»»————- 🛠️ ————-««
one of your goals for the new year was to try your best to not hold a grudge
admittedly, holding grudges is one of your specialties so it's been a little bit difficult but you think you've been doing an okay job so far!
like that time jungkook accidentally drowned you with dirty car water because he didn't see you and also he had headphones on so he couldn't hear you
you were ready to strangle him right then and there but you just took a deep breath and reminded yourself that *~deep-cleaning services exist~*
and sure, you were a little upset that yoongi couldn't make it for dinner the other night and that the two of you haven't really had a chance to have a moment alone because of how swamped he's been with work, but... well, the past is in the past and challenges like this are good for your personal growth!
plus, it's the start of a new week so you're just going to focus on the present
you try your best to keep your footsteps as quiet as possible as you approach a preoccupied yoongi from behind
he's currently sorting out all the things to do on his giant whiteboard (you bought this for the boys because you thought it'd be a good way to organize all their tasks and unsurprisingly, namjoon was the most excited about it)
"guess who?" you hold your hands over yoongi's eyes with a giddy smile and he immediately spins around to face you
"hey, what are you doing here?" yoongi asks, leaning down to give you a quick kiss before pulling away to check the time on his watch, "aren't you supposed to be in class right now?"
"my history seminar was cancelled because my professor had some kind of an emergency so i thought i'd come and have lunch with you guys!" you hum, reaching over to fix the thin silver chain hanging around yoongi's neck, "i was going to pick the food up before coming here but i didn't want to just choose for everyone so i thought it'd be better to get everyone's orders first-"
"oh, you don't have to do that, baby-" yoongi shakes his head, capping the marker and dropping it back into the wire holder, "lisa actually offered to treat us to lunch- apparently there's some bagel place that has, like, a hundred different fillings-"
"lisa's here?" you interrupt, suddenly straightening your back before looking around quickly, "i... was not aware that lisa was... still here! i thought she was only here for a little while-"
"mm, she ended up extending her stay! one of her clients pushed their appointment to thursday so she came over to help out for the day."
"oh, cool." you nod, pressing your lips together as you take a second to sort through your thoughts
your nose scrunches slightly as you weigh the pros and cons of saying what you're about to say to yoongi
...
it won't kill you to ask, right?
"hey, i don't wanna, um-" you pause, "you know, i don't wanna... be that girlfriend, but... do you think that there's a slight possibility that lisa might still have feelings for you?"
a moment of silence goes by before yoongi practically barks out a laugh of disbelief
"what? lisa? no, no- that- no, don't be ridiculous." he snorts, shaking his head before turning back around to face the whiteboard, "lisa most certainly does not still have feelings for me- and, by the way, she was the one who broke things off with me, so if anything, i should be the one who still has feelings for-" he stops himself midway and presses his lips together before turning to glance at you over his shoulder, "you know, i'm hearing the words coming out of my mouth and i... am going to shut up now."
"mm, good choice." you raise a brow before shrugging, "alright, well, i just- you know, it's a possibility but if you say that lisa doesn't still have feelings for you, then i believe you-"
"alright, boys! it's chow time!"
you turn your head to see lisa waltzing into the shop carrying two large paper bags and the rest of the boys immediately rush over to her like moths to a flame
she brought bagels for lunch?
you're not trying to be biased or anything sandwiches are easier to eat, in your personal opinion
you basically have to unhinge your jaw to get a good bite of a bagel
"y/n!" lisa looks more than surprised at your presence when you and yoongi walk over the join the group, "i wasn't aware you were going to be here today- yoongi told me that you had class so i-" she pauses to set the bags down on the table, "oh my goodness, i am so sorry but i really didn't know you'd be joining us for lunch... yoongi, you could've texted me or something-"
"she just got here!" yoongi shrugs as he takes a seat at the table, "don't pin this on me-"
"ah, i probably look like such a jerk right now..." lisa winces, scratching the back of her head before reaching down to grab a bagel out of one of the paper bags, "here! you can take my bagel-"
"no, no, it's alright!" you hold your hands out before shaking them, "don't be silly, you don't have to do that- it's very nice of you to offer but i- it's alright, you go ahead and enjoy yourself!"
"oh, stop- take the bagel, y/n." lisa scoffs playfully, practically shoving the bagel into your arms before rummaging through the bags again, "i'll just share a bagel with yoongi! you don't mind, right, yoongs?"
"yeah, i had a snack earlier so i'm not, like, starving or anything-" yoongi nods, "what kind of filling is it?"
"this one is..." lisa pauses to look at the sticker on the top, "smoked salmon and dill cream cheese with capers."
"yoongi doesn't like capers." you chime in, suddenly feeling the need to prove to everyone that you know your boyfriend very well, "i remember they were sprinkled in a salad one time and he said they were too salty-"
"eh, i'll survive. i can always just pick 'em out." yoongi shrugs nonchalantly and you can't help but purse your lips in mild frustration at his response
"'atta boy! luckily, they're already sliced in half otherwise we'd have to take turns taking bites which would be weird-"
"agreed." you mutter, peeling the label off your bagel and sticking it onto the side instead
"oh, lisa! i was wondering if maybe you could help me out with some custom headlights i'm working on?" hoseok perks up, "i'm having some trouble getting the halo lights to work and i need your magic hands-"
"mhm! i can definitely check them out after lunch-" lisa grins, taking a seat next to yoongi, "anyone need a napkin?"
"yes, please!"
"i need one too-"
"pass one over here-"
you know it's silly of you to be feeling jealous over this because god knows the only thing you know about cars is that key go in and car go vroom so obviously the boys would never ask you to help them out with anything like how they're asking lisa to help out
and you're trying very hard to noT throw a self-pity party but it's getting harder and harder to not to that
(and it certainly doesn't help that there aren't any more seats left at the table)
you just can't help but feel so!!!!! inferior!!!!! compared to lisa
she's so cool and pretty and witty and obviously very knowledgable about cars
and what are you bringing to the table??
ham and cheese sandwiches??? fancy sushi rolls????
obviously not anymore because they've been replaced by these stupid bagels
this is the first time you haven't been able to throw money at a problem and you're not,.., sure.,., how you feel about it,..,
"i, uh, have to work on a paper, so i think i'm going to go and eat this in the office if anyone wants to come with?" you clear your throat quietly as you start to back away from the table slowly, "...or i can just go fuck myself, which is fine too."
you're not entirely surprised when your comment isn't acknowledged by anyone and you nod to yourself before swiftly turning on your heel and trying your best not to storm towards the office
you force your fists to uncurl and your shoulders to relax slightly but you can't help but make a face when you hear the boys laughing obnoxiously at one of lisa's jokes
of course she has to be funny as well
because the woman literally has zero flaws
you've been trying to find a reason to hate her and so far you haven't found anything negative to say
hating someone for having perfectly styled hair is a little odd
the legs of the chair screech against the floor as you pull it out and plop down
whatever
you like eating alone anyway
you unwrap the parchment paper and pick up the bagel before taking an overly aggressive bite of it, your cheeks practically bursting from how much food is currently in your mouth
you wipe your mouth with the back of your hand as you chew, tossing the bagel back onto the wrapper with a thunk!
...
damnit!
this is the best goddamn bagel you've ever had in your entire life!!
"phtupid phriggin' bavhel." you grumble, reaching up to wipe the sauce off the corner of your mouth before swallowing roughly, "even the mayo is delicious! god, what is this? some kind of garlic mayo-"
"oh my god. i think she's finally lost it." you jolt upon hearing jungkook's voice and you turn to see him and jimin standing at the door
"what's your problem?" jimin asks, the two of them walking over to join you at your sad, lonely table
"what? nothing. i don't have a problem." you shake your head stubbornly, "i just- i just wanted to be alone, that doesn't mean something's wrong-"
"is that why you're in here basically yelling at a bagel?" jungkook points out as he pulls out a chair and sits on your right
"i'm- i'm just stressed about- my paper. or whatever. it's whatever, i'm fine-"
"you can talk to us, you know." you frown when jungkook suddenly reaches over and in an uncharacteristic move, places both hands over yours
"is it about lisa?" jimin asks, crinkling his nose as he sits down as well, "it's about lisa, isn't it?"
"no, it's not-" you press your lips together before letting out a light laugh, "you know, i don't even have a reason to be upset about lisa, right? she's super cool and very nice and knows a lot about cars and is yoongi's age and namjoon blessed me with the knowledge that she, apparently, was a very passionate lover- so i have nothing to be upset about!" you snap, slapping your palm down on the table before wincing and cradling your hand to your chest, "...everything is fine."
"i have to say, i really don't think jealousy is a good look on you." jungkook clicks his tongue before glancing down at your feet, "i also don't know if those shoes are a good look on you- jeez, it's like the people at gucci are just pulling design elements out of a hat-"
"you are not making me feel any better, jungkook- these shoes are new!"
"ooh, you should make him jealous!" jungkook suddenly lights up and the fluorescent light hanging above you guys flickers for a second
"we're going to have to round back to my shoes later because i really don't think they're that bad-"
"you should make him jealous and give him a taste of his own medicine..." jungkook trails off, ignoring your previous comments once again, "it's what you deserve."
"i'm not- i'm not doing that." you chuckle uneasily, "are you serious? this isn't high school and getting him back would just be petty of me-"
"but it'd feel so nice to be petty, don't you think?" jungkook encourages, scooting a little closer to you with a devilish grin, "think about it, y/n. don't you wanna see yoongi get all hot and possessive over you-"
"i don't think it's a good idea." jimin chimes in, shaking his head quickly as he moves in closer as well, "because if yoongi finds out you orchestrated something just to get him back, that might create an issue of trust in the relationship, and that would be very, very bad-"
"oh, but it feels so good to be bad..." jungkook coos, poking your arm with his pointer finger, "so, so good..."
"uh, i don't think so! i'd like to argue that it feels bad to be bad-"
"don't listen to jimin, he's a wuss-"
"don't listen to jungkook, he's an idiot-!"
"okay, cut it out!" you snap, shoving your hands into both their chests to keep them from coming any closer, "i... must admit, i do want to do something to piss yoongi off because of how much he's pissed me off, but... i'm not like that, you know? and i don't want to come off as some crazy girlfriend because-" you pause when you notice jungkook's finger creeping closer and closer to your bagel and you immediately deflate as soon as you realize what's going on here, "oh my god. you guys only came in here because you wanted to try my bagel, didn't you?"
jungkook and jimin exchange knowing glances before looking up at you sheepishly
"yeah, that makes more sense-" you snort, rolling your eyes before pushing the bagel away from you, "have at it, you animals."
you lean back against your chair, stroking your chin in thought as the sound of jungkook and jimin bickering over who gets the bigger half of the bagel starts to fade out
to be petty or not to be petty, that is the question...

(spoiler alert: the answer to the previous question is to be petty. very, very petty.) »»————- 🛠️ ————-««
"namjoon! where did you put my keys??" yoongi calls out, yanking open another drawer to rifle through its contents, "i'm supposed to pick y/n up from campus and i can't find them anywhere... i don't want her to just stand there waiting for me..."
"looking for these?"
yoongi looks up to see lisa standing by the door with his keys in her hand before she tosses them to him
"yes! you're a lifesaver, thanks-" he catches them with one hand before stepping out from behind the counter, "i thought you were leaving today? we already said goodbye to you this morning-"
"yeah, i know-" lisa chuckles as she steps into the office, "it's just that... well, i was going to just leave but i actually had something i needed to talk to you about before i left. i felt it wouldn't be fair to either one of us if i didn't say anything."
"mm. what's up?" yoongi hums, sticking his hand into the lollipop jar to pull a cherry flavoured one out
he pulls another one out before tucking it into his pocket (one for you when he picks you up!)
"well, i guess i should just go ahead and say it- just gotta rip the bandaid off-" lisa straightens her blazer before clearing her throat, "yes."
"...yes?" yoongi frowns, unwrapping his lollipop before popping it into his mouth and scrunching up the wrapper, "i'm not following. yes to what?"
"oh, don't play dumb-" lisa snorts, flicking her wrist at him, "yes, as in: i would love to rekindle our friends with benefits situationship-"
"woah, what?!" yoongi immediately chokes and he yanks the lollipop out of his mouth before patting his chest roughly, "what are you- what the hell are you talking about??"
"what do you mean what the hell am i talking about??" lisa stares at him incredulously before shaking her head, "you're the one who's been giving me secret signals all week-"
"signals-" yoongi's gawks, "what signals??"
"you know, like, how you cancelled dinner plans with her so you could be with me..." lisa croons, taking a step closer towards him
"i cancelled dinner plans with y/n so i could be with twenty cars-" yoongi inches to the side so he can make a quick getaway to run behind the counter in case lisa pounces, "which, i'm realizing doesn't make me sound like the best boyfriend but- i most certainly didn't cancel just to spend private time with you, no offence-"
"what about when we shared a bagel and you didn't complain about the capers??" lisa snaps, lunging towards yoongi only for him to quickly spin out of the way and hurry to get behind the counter
"uh, we shared a bagel because i wasn't hungry for a full bagel and i thought you weren't either, and also-" yoongi grabs namjoon's wheely chair as a makeshift barrier between him and lisa, "i'm a grown man, i'm not going to throw a fit over some friggin' capers-"
"how about when i squeezed your arm and asked you if you'd been working out and you totally flexed your arm for me??" lisa grabs the arms of the chair before yanking and aggressively rolling it behind her, yoongi's eyes widening in panic at the sudden empty space in between the two of them
"i flexed it to prove to you that i have indeed been working out-!" yoongi hops up onto the counter as soon as lisa darts towards him and he hurries to jump off so he's on the other side of it, knocking the phone and namjoon's pen holder down onto the ground in the process, "friends can ask each other if they've been hitting the gym!! i squeeze namjoon's arms all the time because his biceps are literally boulders-"
"i just feel like we have unfinished business, you know?" lisa whines, pausing for a second before bringing a hand up to bite down on the tip of her pointer finger teasingly, "plus, you have to admit that our sex was super hot-"
"are you- hello, i'm dating y/n!" yoongi gasps, "our business is finished! we have no more- we're out of business, lisa!"
"oh, c'mon." lisa raises a brow, clearly unimpressed with his reaction, "it's not going to hurt anyone to keep me as your sexy little secret- it's perfect! i only come into town, like, once or twice a year, so she won't even suspect anythi-"
"what are you- are you insane?! i'm not going to cheat on y/n-" yoongi chokes before raising his hands in defence, "lisa, you're a very beautiful woman and we do have a history, but- look, i'm sorry if i sent you mixed signals this week, that was certainly not my intention- please understand that i am very much not trying to cheat on someone who i love very much and who i'm pretty sure loves me back, so-"
"then who's that person she's so obviously flirting with right now?" lisa points over his shoulder, "also, she's barely visited you this week. what kind of girlfriend doesn't want to always be with her boyfriend??"
"first of all, space can be healthy, and second of all, she- hold on, you said flirting?" yoongi turns to look over his shoulder and out the door, tilting his head slightly when he sees you standing at the front of the garage laughing with... someone he certainly doesn't recognize...
"you can leave all of this behind and come and work for me, yoongi-" yoongi jumps when he suddenly feels hands grasping at the collar of his jumpsuit and he turns back to see lisa standing right in front of him (how did she move so quickly and quietly?!), "we can be happy together, i swear-"
"yeah, cool, just give me a second-" yoongi gently yanks lisa's hands off of him before hurrying out of the office and making a beeline right for you and this mysterious stranger
"oop- okay, he's coming this way-" baekhyun mutters, glancing over your shoulder before looking back at you, "it's show time. you ready?" he hums, reaching over to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear
"what do you think? do we look convincing?" you reach down to unbutton another button on your blouse before adjusting the collar
it's taking everything within you noT to whip around to see if yoongi's just walking towards you or if he's storming towards you... because there's definitely a difference and you definitely want it to be the latter
the plan you came up with had a pretty simple formula: one handsome stranger + one flirty, oblivious y/n = one jealous yoongi
jungkook had a point about how nice it'd be to get yoongi all riled up and possessive and frankly you think you deserve it considering how dismissive he's been with you all week... which is why you were more than happy to recruit your very handsome friend baekhyun (he's very sweet / you met last semester in one of your history courses / he was more than willing to help out with your plan because he's a theatre major and this is good practice for him) to help you out with your plan!
"you're laughing like a robot." baekhyun lowers his voice, "i told you to act natural-"
"i'm being natural! ha, ha! ha! ha-ha. you're so funny, baek-" you giggle obnoxiously, reaching over to slap his chest gently, "you are absolutely the funniest person i've ever met-"
"y/n!" yoongi clears his throat loudly and you bite back a grin at the hint of annoyance you can detect in his voice, "i... thought i was picking you up from class today? i wasn't aware you hired a chauffeur!"
"oh, yoongi!" you spin around, feigning surprise as if you totally weren't expecting to see him at all, "oh, this is actually my friend- i know you've been busy so he offered to give me a ride!" you hum, stepping aside to let baekhyun step up onto the sidewalk, "baekhyun, this is yoongi-" you gesture to yoongi, "yoongi, this is baekhyun! ...my boyfriend."
you're hoping your accidental on-purpose flub-up triggers yoongi's memory of how he accidentally introduced lisa to you as his girlfriend and you're delighted to see the way yoongi's jaw drops slightly, "oh, my bad! i'm sorry, i don't know how that happened- what i meant to say was baekhyun, this is yoongi, my boyfriend. there we go."
"baekhyun..." yoongi repeats, his eyes narrowing slightly when baekhyun suddenly wraps an arm around your shoulder and gives you a squeeze "well, that's very nice of you to drive y/n all the way here. thanks for doing that, man."
"oh, it's no problem at all!" baekhyun hums, reaching over to pinch your cheek, "y/n's the sweetest and i didn't want to abandon her on campus-"
"okay, she wasn't abandoned, i was literally about to leave to pick her up-" yoongi points out, lifting his keys with a jingle before abruptly shoving them into his back pocket, "you know, y/n's never mentioned a baekhyun before. you two seem... close!"
"oh, baek and i go way back." you snort, digging your elbow into his side with a grin, "isn't that right, baek?"
baek
yoongi pokes his tongue against the inside of his cheek at the fact that baekhyun still has his arm wrapped around your shoulder and you haven't made a move to shoVE it off
how can you not see that his intentions with you aren't just chummy??
he wouldn't have driven you all the way here if he didn't want to get his grubby hands under your skirt-
"we most certainly do! we made some great memories in that lecture hall- i have to say, i was, uh, pretty disappointed when i found out she was already in a relationship..." baekhyun sighs dramatically, shaking his head before looking back at you, "i would treat you right and never cancel dinner plans with you-"
"okay, i think it's time for you to go, bacon-" yoongi forces a smile on his face before reaching over to gently pull you towards him, "thank you for dropping my girlfriend off. have a good one."
"oh, no problem!" baekhyun points towards you, "hey, lemme know if you need a ride to campus on monday because i'd be happy to swing by your apartment and-"
"no, i can take her!" yoongi manoeuvres you so that you're standing behind him and basically blocked from baekhyun's sight, "i've got it from here, thanks."
"bye, baek!" you wave at baekhyun as gets into his car and he salutes at you before his right eye drops in a cheeky wink and it's at that point that yoongi really thinks he's about to lose it
what the hell was that?!
he spins around to face you as soon as baekhyun zooms off and you keep yourself from asking him why his ears have suddenly turned super red
"why are you wearing lowbuttons to class?" yoongi crosses his arms over his chest, "i thought you said you were going to use them as, like, apartment decoration."
"louboutins, yoongi." you correct, looking down at your slick stilettos, "and why can't i wear louboutins to class?"
"you wore them out to dinner one time and i ended up having to carry you back to the car because your feet were aching-" yoongi reminds you with a pointed tone, "are you telling me that you walked up and down and all around campus in those things?"
"maybe i did." you shrug, turning to stick your nose up in the air a little, "i can wear stilettos to class if i so please."
"and the miniskirt?"
"what, you don't like it?" you pout, reaching down to pick a piece of fluff off the surface, "it's new!"
it's a plain black skirt but it has a little slit on the side and you purposely bought this specific piece knowing that yoongi has expressed how much he likes you in black
"of course i like it, and obviously i'm a big fan of the heels but-" yoongi huffs, "all i'm saying is that it's a little odd- the timing is weird for your miniskirts and heels to make a sudden comeback now that you're all buddy-buddy with this backyawn-"
"it's baekhyun-"
"that's what i said!"
"you know, i don't know what you're implying here but i haven't done anything wrong-" you shrug, "are you feeling okay? maybe you need to take a nap-"
"stop being stubborn, y/n. just tell me what's going on!"
"nothing's going on!" you insist, raising your hands in defense before flicking a strand of hair over your shoulder, "everything is perfectly fine and nothing is-"
"are you leaving me for baekhyun?" yoongi interrupts, his eyes suddenly softening, "because if this is how you're telling me we're over, it's a pretty shitty-"
"what- what?? no!" you shake your head quickly, "no, of course i'm not- why would you even- okay, fine! fine, i-" you let out a breath and your shoulders drop a little, "it's just that... i don't know, it kind of feels like i've been fighting to get your attention for the whole week and i... i feel like i shouldn't have to do that as your girlfriend, you know? and i'm not... i guess i just felt like i wasn't stacking up to lisa and how cool and smart she is and- this whole week it's just felt like you're in a relationship with lisa and not me, so i... wanted to make you jealous to see if you still cared. or whatever."
"are you serious?" yoongi's eyes flutter shut and he reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration, "fuck, i'm sorry, ah- i'm sorry, y/n, i really am-" his brows knit together in remorse as he looks at you, "i think i just got swept up in all the new clients she was bringing in so i was focusing more on that than on noticing what was going on with you... i'm sorry. why didn't you just come and talk to me about it?"
"i didn't know how." you mutter, reaching up to scratch the side of your head, "i've never had to deal with something like this before, so... i know it was silly of me to come up with this whole thing-"
"you are my girlfriend, y/n." yoongi reminds you, his voice softening, "not lisa. it's you." he reaches over to hook a finger under your chin so he can get you to look at him, "i promise i only have eyes for you, pretty girl. you still love me?"
"god, yoongi-" you feel your cheeks flush at the nickname and you roll your eyes playfully before turning your head, "yeah. duh."
"oh, you silly thing..." he tuts, pulling you in for a hug and propping his chin up on the top of your head, "i'm sorry, baby. i really didn't mean to make you feel like that..." he pulls away and reaches down to glide his finger down the bridge of your nose before poking the tip, "i hope you can forgive me for being a shitty boyfriend."
"i'll forgive you if you forgive me for pretending to flirt with someone else." you smile sheepishly, yoongi grinning before nodding in agreement
"deal." he wraps an arm around your shoulder as the two of you head back towards the direction of the office, "so you really went through all that trouble just to make me a little jealous?" yoongi grins, "just for a little bit of attention? as if i'm not already all over you when we're alone-"
"well, it worked, didn't it?" you take your bottom lip in between your teeth as you squish your cheek against yoongi's shoulder and look up at him, "my acting skills are not half bad, if i do say so myself-"
"oh, shit, uh-" yoongi suddenly stops in his tracks when he sees lisa step out of the office and he spins around so that his back is facing her, "not to make you worry, but you should probably know that lisa's somehow convinced that i've been secretly flirting with her all week because i want to become friends with benefits again and she almost, like, body-slammed me in the office- also, if namjoon asks, tell him a raccoon snuck in and that's why his desk is a mess and his pens are all over the floor-"
"wait, what?!" your brows knit together and you're about to lean over to look at lisa but yoongi quickly reaches out and grabs onto your shoulders to keep you in place
"-yeah, so i'm going to lay you down on the hood of that car now because doing something extreme is probably the only thing that'll prove to her that she's wrong and i am very desperate to show her that she's wrong-"
"lay me down on the- and do what?! yoongi-!" you don't get much of a chance to say anything else before yoongi's suddenly bending down to pick you up off the ground in one swift movement, his fingers digging underneath your thighs as he lays you down on the hood of the nearest car, "yoongi-! you can't just-"
"shush!" yoongi hisses, pressing his lips against yours to shut you up promptly
"mmvph-"
it doesn't take you very long to melt into the kiss once you realize you haven't kissed yoongi like this in like a week and a half and you can't help but smile at the familiar faint taste of cherry you're getting from him
yoongi's warm hand slides down from your waist so he can hitch your left leg up against his hip, one of your heels slipping from your foot and clattering onto the floor
your senses are so clouded with yoongi cherry yoongi cherry that you nearly forget the two of you aren't alone (and also, all of this is definitely being recorded on the security cameras right now)
"hey, so- i- i'm gonna get going-" lisa announces loudly as she stands at a good distance away from the two of you, her eyes looking up towards the ceiling so that she doesn't have to watch the way yoongi's kissing down your neck, "i have to check out of my hotel, so-"
"yeah, sounds good!" yoongi pulls away for a second and shoots a quick thumbs up over his shoulder, "see you later, pal!"
"bye, lisa!" you chime in, giving her a wave even though she isn't looking at you and is really trying to double-time it to her car, "it was so nice meeting you!"
the two of you watch silently as lisa practically leaps into her mustang, the sound of the engine revving before she quickly speeds off like she just remembered she left the oven on at home
you turn your head to look up at yoongi before scoffing lightly, hooking a finger against his chain to pull him back down towards you, "you're ridiculous, you know that?"
"yeah, i know-" yoongi's nose crinkles before he offers you a boyish smirk and a half-hearted shrug, "you love it, though."

Happy Early Valentine's day!!!!
I read your laziest valentine's day one. Can you do a very busy day one?? Like the reader is out becuz of work and deadline and Damian is out doing vigilante stuff.
Idk what to write in this but......yeah. It's like real life Valentine's cuz it's not a national holiday where I'm from -_-
Ugh why can't the whole world just jump on board for love day? I'm single and it's still one of my favorite holidays. Whole day in bed watching roms and eating myself sick on chocolate 😩 Remember to love yourselves babes, you don't need anyone but yourself today 😘
MASTER LIST in BIO
"I can't believe this," he growls, clicking his belt together with more anger than you've ever seen someone latch a belt. "Who robs a jewelry store on Valentine's Day? In broad daylight, no less."
You're still in bed, barely dressed, trying to look as supportive as you can despite being this ticked off. "Somebody who forgot it was Valentine's Day and now has a very angry partner to appease."
He glares sideways at you. "I don't think this is funny."
He really doesn't. In fact, this is probably the angriest he's been thus far this year. All he wanted was to lay in bed with you today. That's it. He'd stocked up on chocolate and had plans for making you a late breakfast in bed, and you'd lined up a slew of cheesy romance favorites from Pride and Prejudice to Corpse Bride.
And then Tim called him and said there was a goddamn hostage situation in a Kay's Jewelry store downtown, and they were threatening to blow the whole block sky-high.
You twist a lick of hair around your finger. "It'll be fine." You keep your eyes on him, hoping he'll turn around and meet them. "I'll be right here when you get back. I took the day off remember?"
He twists his face and pitches his voice, "I too the day off." He yanks the laces of his boots tight. "Lucky you, picking your hours."
You roll your eyes. "Don't go picking fights when you're gonna want snuggles later."
He juts a finger at you while he reaches for his tunic. "Don't ever use that word again."
You chuckle, propping yourself up on your elbows. "What? Snuggles? So you don't want me to hold you and play with your hair while you try not to cry at the end of The Notebook?"
He glares at you again. He might argue, lie through his teeth and tell you no, if that wasn't his exact plan for this afternoon.
You smile smugly at his silence. "Thought so." You wait until he's got his tunic Velcro'd so he can look at you again. "It'll be fine," you repeat.
You know this is important to him. He likes making plans with you; setting aside time with the specific intent of spending all of it with you. He doesn't have a lot of spare time these days, but he makes time for you. You always appreciate it, of course, but you wish he wouldn't take it so hard when those plans have to change.
It is fine. Yeah, sure, it's Valentine's Day, and you've been looking forward to a solid day off, and some unrushed quality time with your lovely boyfriend sounds heavenly—but there will be other days.
He'll make sure of it.
He doesn't argue about it anymore before he leaves. He grumbles and complains, of course, but he doesn't argue that it will, ultimately, be fine.
Until he gets a text from you on his way home.
So...work called. Three people called out with covid so they're calling me in. They're paying me over time and giving me an extra day off next week as compensation. Lemme know what day you're free so I can take the same day. Sorry. ❤️
He swaps the sweaty uniform for his civvies the moment he gets home. Well, it's one in the afternoon, and he's got four hours to himself. On Valentine's Day.
You get home close to dark. You're tired and the beginning of a headache had balled itself into the front of your head, but you're happy to be home.
He's waiting for you right there by the front door. "Funny seeing you here. Come here often?"
You snort. "Not as much as I used to." You bend over to start prying your shoes off, but he beats you to it.
He hits his knees and starts unlacing them. "I brought you flowers," he says. "And there's a hot shower calling your name. Not a single dirty dish in the entire apartment. I even moved the pile of laundry to the guest room so we don't have to look at it."
You laugh. "Oh really? A real man of the house, huh?"
He grins up at you, all boyish and lovesick. Your heart stutters in your chest the same moment your lungs seize. You try to think up something else witty to say, but you can't dredge anything up. "I might've swiped a bottle from Father's cellar, as well," he admits, pulling off your second shoe. "And I might have already had a glass or two."
You snort. One would think Damian would be at least a somewhat experienced drinker—but he really isn't. He doesn't like the idea of not quiet being completely in control of himself, so he doesn't drink often, and that means he's what Jason would call a light weight. Course, by Jason's standards, so is Bruce.
He does drink with you, though, on occasion. When it's just the two of you, in your shared apartment, with all the doors and windows locked and the curtains drawn, he'll throw his guard down like the heaviest suit of armour and he's dying for a decent breath.
Tonight isn't different. He's grinning down at you sometime long after the sun's gone. You're sprawled out on the soft area rug in the living room, tipsy smile stretching your cheeks, eyes glittering joy. He looks much the same, havering over you with his hands planted on his knees. There's some indie rom-com playing on the television, just a little too loud.
"Ya know," he starts, still grinning down at you like some middle schooler who hasn't had to meet the real atrocities of life yet. "We've never had a normal Valentine's Day."
"What do you mean?"
"Well," he heaves, dropping himself uncharacteristically clumsily onto the floor beside you, "last year you couldn't sleep. The year before that, you– I, uh–" he pauses to chuckle at himself, "you stayed up to wait for me to get home, remember?"
You wiggle across the carpet, pressing yourself flush into his side. You lay your head on the arm he stretches out for you. "I remember. It wasn't that bad, though. I've had much worse."
"Sure, but we've never had a normal one."
You hum. "By what standards?"
He lets his eyes wander the ceiling, and the fan that spins above you. "By– I don't know. Movies, I suppose. Television shows."
You shrug against him. "Those are boring anyway, don't you think? I mean, you know how it's going to end. Either everybody gets who they're supposed to get and everything turns out fine, or everybody gets their heart broken and goes their seperate ways." You try to watch one of the fan blades spin, but you get them mixed up somewhere on the third rotation. "Plus, all the dates are– I dunno. Kind of boring. It's sweet, don't get me wrong, but I don't know. It's just all so staged."
"They are movies, beloved."
"Exactly. They're movies." You reach up to hook your fingers with those of the hand attached to the arm you're laying on. "You and I aren't in a movie. Things don't always work out. But since there's no script, we get to do whatever we want. Like, yeah, sure our plans for jacked. But look at us now, right? Drunk on a Monday night, havin' the greatest time to be had."
He laughs, deep and loud. It shakes you into laughing with him. "I'm not drunk," he tries, but he's laughing so hard that it comes out crackly and slurred anyway.
"Fine," you allow, "tipsy. We're tipsy, laying on a floor. In our apartment." You twist and roll until you're on your stomach, leaning up on your elbows. "But it's fun, right?"
He looks away from the ceiling. Because he who would want to look at boring old ceiling when you are within view? "Very."
"Yeah," you grin. "We don't need a normal Valentine's Day. We just need an us Valentine's Day. Which means that nothing goes all the way right and we have to improvise 75% of it, but that's okay. We have pretty great on-the-spot ideas anyway."
His grin softens, the way an old picture does with age. All those bright colors are still there, all directed at you. He just stares for a long few minutes, as if he's trying burn this exact moment into his brain until it's the only thing he'll be able to see when he closes his eyes.
And then, quietly and giggly, "I think you're smarter when you're drunk."

As you and Yoongi attempt to sever the bond between you, will another be formed?

The first thing you felt--before you opened your eyes--was Yoongi's white T-shirt against your cheek and the warmth of his skin beneath it. His arm was around you and his hand rested on the peak of your hip. You opened your eyes and looked up to see his hair splayed across his forehead and his lips pouted.
You smiled as you slowly removed yourself from Yoongi's arms. He stirred as you stood up and were away from his grasp, but he softly moved as he rolled onto his side and his arms reached for where you had once been. You could get used to waking up next to Yoongi every morning. Something about the way he missed you--even when he wasn't awake--made your heart swell.
You quickly pushed those thoughts away as you took two mugs from the table and flipped them right side up. While you were used to cheap hotels with packages of instant coffee and--if you were lucky--an electric tea kettle, this hotel, however, had a full coffee maker and a few coffee brands to choose from. You chose a brand you recognized and placed it in the coffee maker.
It wasn't long before the entire room smelled of coffee. As you were pouring the second cup of coffee, you felt a soft touch on your waist and turned to catch Yoongi's soft smile and messy hair as he reached for one of the mugs.
"Thanks," he said, his voice raspy and deep.
You nodded and took a sip of your coffee and sat down at the table, Yoongi soon following and sitting across from you.
"You like it black?"
"Yeah," you said. "My dad would always drink it black and when I was old enough that's how he made it for me. It just kind of stuck."
"Do you miss them?"
"Of course," you said. "It's hard when they're so far away, but I don't regret staying here. I can make a living here, more so than I could in the US."
"When did you see them last?"
"Around a year ago. Minki came with me and it was the first time he'd been to the US and the first time he met my family. They didn't like him that much. I guess I should've listened to them." You chuckled sardonically and took a large sip of coffee, creating a silence--while not uncomfortable--had a small bit of tension laced in. "What about you? You don't get to see your family much either, right? Being an idol and all?"
The question caused him to sit up straight and meet your eyes before quickly looking back down at the wooden table. "Uh, yeah, we usually see our families a couple of times a year. Usually towards the end of the year and then sporadically throughout. Some see their families more often cause they live near Seoul, but getting to Daegu is hard. We didn't always get along when I first moved, so it was hard for a while."
"Oh," you said. While all families fight and disagree, you couldn't imagine not talking to your family or not having their support. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be," he said. "We've moved past it. It was a long time ago. We talk more often now and they really want to meet you."
You laughed, not sure if it was from the nerves of thinking about meeting his family or simply because the idea itself was laughable because you weren't in a relationship. "Why? I mean, they know what we're trying to do, right?"
"Yeah," he said. "They're convinced it won't work though. We're soulmates. We'll always come back to each other."
"It's worked before. Pairs of soulmates able to distance themselves and move on. I think we can do it."
"Yeah," he said, his words punctuated by sips of coffee. "Yeah, we can." There were a few moments of silence before he set his mug down and his eyes met yours. "So, I promised you a proper date, but after everything that happened yesterday, do you want to risk going out into the city?"
"Not really," you said. "I don't even want to leave the room. I want to see the city, but it makes me nervous just thinking about going back out there."
Yoongi reached across the table, his fingers brushing over the back of your hand. "I'll bring you back someday when we can properly wander the city."
Your stomach flipped. You knew it was probably just an empty promise and supposed to be comforting, but considering you had just talked about distancing yourselves from one another, it seemed unwise to promise, even something empty and trivial.
---
Two hours later and the two of you were laid on the bed, close, but not touching. Empty plates littered the bedside tables and each of you held a wine glass in your hand. You smiled as you sipped the deep red alcohol and felt as a buzz came over your senses. It wasn't unpleasant, just like a small vibration in your head. The same one that had convinced you to sleep with Yoongi the first time you met him.
"You're sure this isn't too much?" you asked, glancing down at the nearly three hundred dollar room service bill.
Yoongi laughed. "You really don't have to worry about it."
"It makes me feel bad," you said. "Will you let me pay for something later?"
"If it makes you feel better." His fingers glided over the skin of your left hand that rested on the bed, dangerously close to his thigh.
The couple in the movie you were watching kissed and you felt a stirring low in your stomach. It had been so long since you'd felt Yoongi's lips on yours. You knew he was feeling the same way, as he squirmed slightly beside you.
"You feel it, too?"
"Yeah," he said. "We need to try and resist it."
"Didn't the therapist say to try and get through it with mainly friendly things?"
"I think so."
His arm came around you and his skin felt like ice on a sunburn. You nearly let out a moan. You wanted to feel his lips on your neck and his hands on your thighs. The bruising way he grabbed your skin without leaving any bruises. How his hair looked pushed back and the way his lips swelled after even the softest of kisses.
"Yoongi, can--can I kiss you?"
"I don't think that's exactly friendly."
"Just one," you said. "It'll be less than we did last time this happened."
"All right," he said. "But, we can't let it go too far."
You nodded and shifted so that you faced him, the front of your body pressed into his side. His hand came to rest on the small of you back and his lips came to meet yours before you'd fully closed your eyes.
They were soft, like always. You could taste the red wine on his lips and the hesitation as he pushed the tip of his tongue into your mouth. His hand bunched the fabric of your T-shirt and your hands laced in his hair. You never wanted to let go.
Yoongi pulled away first, although his eyes were pained as he did so. He reached up and smoothed your hair back.
"Damn," he said. "If only I'd met you before Jihee."
"Yoongi, you can't mean that."
"Maybe if it was a different time, or if I wasn't an idol, I don't know, but I like to think there's a universe where we work out."
Your lips formed words you hadn't thought of yet when your phone vibrated on the bed beside you. You reached for it and saw it was your mom. It was nearing 9 p.m. in Los Angeles and your mom normally called you just after dinner.
"I--uh--have to take this."
---
You walked into the bathroom and answered the phone as you shut the door.
"Mom? Hey, what's going on?"
"Sumi!" Your mom's voice sounded panicked. "Are you still in Japan?"
"Yeah, we're flying back to Korea tomorrow?" You paused. "Is everything okay? You don't usually call me at this time."
"Well, I don't want to worry you. I want you to enjoy the rest of your time in Japan, okay?"
"Okay..."
"Grandma fell and is in the hospital. She broke her wrist and the doctors say her blood sugar was too low. They don't know what caused it yet, but they're going to monitor her for a few days."
You nodded and already felt the tears forming in your eyes. Your grandmother was nearing ninety and you knew your time with her was limited, but she'd been the one to encourage you to stay in Korea and do what you wanted. She always knew and wanted what was best for you and you loved her more than anyone for it.
"Okay," you said, your voice cracking. "Is there anything I can do?"
"Call when you get back tomorrow. If she's feeling better, I'm sure she'd love to talk to you."
"Of course. I'll call as soon as I'm back." You reached up and wiped the few tears that had managed to squeeze out. "Just keep me updated."
You heard a soft knock on the door as you hung up the door. You opened it and met with a soft-eyed Yoongi, his arms almost immediately coming to rest on your hips.
"Everything okay?"
"Uh. yeah," you said. "My grandma's in the hospital. It's not too concerning at the moment, I just, uh, get a bit emotional when it comes to her."
He nodded and led you back to the bed. He didn't say anything else, just electing to keep one of his arms around your shoulders and turn the volume on the movie up. He handed you an unopened bag of cookies as if he knew it was exactly what you needed.
---
A few days later
"So, how are things going?" the therapist asked, her notebook resting on her lap and her glasses slid down the bridge of her nose.
"Uh, well, we get along better now. I-I think we understand each other better now. But, we've run into something a little more worrisome."
"What's that?"
"Well, we had a fight a while ago. I'm fairly close with his other members and one of them was trying to comfort me and when he touched me, I burned him."
"Yeah, I also have a weird emotional attachment to her. Like, my emotions are tied to hers. If she's sad, then I feel overwhelmingly sad until she's happy again."
You turned to Yoongi with your lips pursed in curiosity. "What?"
"Oh, I thought you'd caught onto to that."
You had noticed that Yoongi had seemed to understand you better recently. He was always there whenever your mood flatlined, you soon found Yoongi coming with a snack or a cup of tea. Sometimes he stuck around and sometimes he didn't, but he never failed to jumpstart your mood.
"Is this happening constantly or only after a conflict?"
"I'm always tuned into her emotions. However, negative emotions always come through the strongest, whether caused by me or not."
You felt him looking at you and it caused your cheeks to heat. "Oh, the burning happened twice. Once as we mentioned and the second time I burnt through another's T-shirt, but I didn't actually burn him."
The therapist nodded and chewed on the end of her pen. "There aren't many precedents for these sorts of things, as you know, soulmates are rare. It's even rarer for a pair to decide they don't want to be together. The physical symptoms we've seen before were not that different from the ones you're exhibiting." She jotted down a few notes and flipped back to a previous page. "Now that you're exhibiting these symptoms though, it means that you've grown to the stage where we can begin to back off the connection.
"The only things you two need to do is to try and minimize the conflict between the two of you, continue resisting urges to the best of your ability, and we will be prescribing some medication. Since such a high profile soulmates case has come up, the interest in research recently has increased and so your medical treatment may change. So, you'll need to go in for a checkup in after about a week on the new medication."
"I have a quick question," Yoongi said. "My, uh, parents really want to meet Sumi. They know we're trying to break this and everything, but we have some time off and I was wondering if that would hurt things if she came with me to Daegu?"
The therapist shrugged. "I don't see why it would. It's perfectly fine for the two of you to act as friends and you have to stay together until the bond is completely severed. However, if something feels off during the visit, leave."
You looked at Yoongi. He'd left you speechless for the second time during the appointment. He never brought up meeting his parents, only that they wanted to meet you. Your palms went clammy and you began to pick at the skin around your fingernails. You wished you'd brought your needles.
---
"You never mentioned actually meeting your parents," you said, carrying your prescription and ducking into the car before anyone could catch sight of you and Yoongi.
"I didn't really think it was happening, but, I don't know. If we only have one soulmate, I want them to meet mine."
"Okay," you said. "I-uh-I just don't have much time to prepare."
"What? Why would you need to prepare?"
"So they'll like me."
"You don't need to worry about that, Sumi. They'll love you."
---
Mom (3:45 am): Sumi!
You (3:47 am): Yes? Is everything all right?
Mom (3:49 am): Hey, isn't it early there? Shouldn't you be asleep?
You (3:50 am): It's all right. How's Grandma?
Mom (3:52 am): Oh, she's fine. She's getting discharged now. She's actually in fairly good spirits. You'll never guess what arrived this morning.
Sumi (3:53 am): What?
Mom (3:55 am):

Best friends to lovers | Seonghwa (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Seonghwa sat down on the bonnet of his car, passing you a drink. You smiled, cracking it open.
"I love days like this." He smiled, looking out at the sunset. You watched his face closely, his tanned skin seeming like pure gold in the sunlight.
"Me too." You smiled, watching the sparkle in his eyes.
Seonghwa put his can on the floor, laying back and closing his eyes. He looked so peaceful, like that, basking in the golden hours of the evening.
"Can I tell you some-"
"Can I tell you-"
The two of you looked at each other and laughed. You lay down with him on the car bonnet, looking into his eyes. "It's fine, you go first."
"Are you sure?" He narrowed his eyes. You nodded, shrugging your mouth a little.
"I didn't get a chance to tell you this before, I wanted to wait until I was sure, but...I like someone." The smile on your face fell a little, but there was something still holding onto him in your heart. "Who is that someone?"
He smiled, his eyes crinkling charmingly. "She's someone who's really special to me. We spend a lot of time together."
You grinned, biting your lip to hide the excitement building up in your body. "What's her name?"
Turning his head, he flashed a sweet smile. "Kim Jieun."
There was a long pause after he said the unfamiliar name. It wasn't yours, and you didn't know how to respond. It felt like your heart had just collapsed in on itself, or you brain was eating your alive, cell by cell. Still, you maintained a smile, albeit forced. "I've never heard of her, she seems...nice."
He laughed. "Silly," he tapped his finger onto your nose, "you've only heard her name and you already think she's nice?"
You chuckled sheepishly. "I must be silly, right?"
"But you're right. She is really nice...and beautiful, too." His cheeks flushed a bright pink.
You watched the expression form on his face, and you don't know what to do. Part of you wanted to slap him across the face for having feelings for anyone but you. The other part of you wanted to slap yourself for thinking you ever had a chance with your closest and most valued friend.
"Anyway, you wanted to tell me something, what was it?"
Defeated, you shook your head. "Nothing, it was just about how my mom wants you to come over someday, she's missed you."
"Oh, I'm sure we can work something out." He nodded, lips sticking out into a slight pout.
"We should probably go home, the sun's going to set soon."
"Yeah." He stood up with a light groan, jumping up onto his feet. "I feel so refreshed today." He opened his arms out as if he were going to hug someone.
"Me too..." you grabbed your can and walked over to the passenger seat.
Eventually, you told one of your closest friends your secret, about liking Seonghwa, and how he had already found someone seemingly to replace you. You had no idea who this Jieun person was, or how they met, and you regretted not sticking closer next to him after school break.
"Y/n, come on, it'll be fun!"
"I don't want to go." You sat in bed, scrolling mindlessly on your phone, not paying attention to anything that flew across the screen.
"You've been stuck in your room for weeks over Seonghwa, I think this party will be good for you."
"No, Minah, I told you no."
"Come on, Y/n, it'll be fun! I promise you-"
"I told you, I don't want to go!" You yelled, tears brimming at the inner corners of your eyes. "I want to stay here...please."
"Y/n..." Minah, your closest friend other than Seonghwa, put her hand on your knee. "I know it hurts, I mean...I've never experienced anything like it, but I know it hurts. Look, I think it'll be good if you get out of the house. Go for ten minutes, maybe half an hour if you like it."
"-And if I don't like it?"
"Then you can go home."
You gulped, glancing over at your closet. "Fine. I'll go. But for no more than half an hour, okay?"
Minah giggled. "Let's get you looking sexy, my friend, Seonghwa's going to regret ever laying eyes on that girl!"
Yourself and Minah walked into the party that was hosted at a well-known friend's house. You didn't know the host that well, personally, but you'd heard the name floating around between friends. It was fairly tame, although there were a few avid drinkers stumbling their way through the mass of people.
"Do you want a drink?" Minah asked, eyeing up the selection of beverages. You shook your head in disgust. You felt that if you even drank plain water it would come right back up, due to the nerves.
Minah scuttled off to the drinks section, and you were left alone behind the sofa. There were couples making out on coffee tables and against walls, and the place stenched a bit. It didn't seem like your idea of a fun party, but you were there and you promised to stay at least for half an hour.
Without warning, you felt a pair of hands slide over your eyes, and you flinched, pulling them away and spinning around quickly. There was anger in your eyes, until you saw the face in front of yours.
"Seonghwa..." you smiled bitterly, watching his mouth twist up into a smile.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." He laughed, eyes flickering around the room. His eyes fixated on something and lit up, as if he'd just seen an angel.
"Seonghwa!" A beautiful girl linked her arm with his and the two locked lips. You grimaced, looking away as they shared a sweet kiss.
"Y/n, this is Jieun, the girl I was talking to you about."
Jieun's eyes widened. "Wait, this is the Y/n you're always talking about? You're so pretty, sweetheart!" She placed her hand onto your arm, and you shook it off. Jieun smiled awkwardly.
"Well, it's nice to meet you." She held her hand out, and you reluctantly took it.
"Nice to meet you too." You shook it, dropping it quickly. She had a beautiful smile, like a model, and she made sure to flaunt it after every sentence she spoke. The music was pounding in your ears as you watched them, feeling like a third wheel. You felt rage in your body as his arm was slung around her waist the entire time, his thumb stroking her hip. His eyes seemed to gaze at her the same way he looked at you. You felt replaced, like a dead puppy.
"I'm going outside." You announced, pushing your way through the middle of the couple. Seonghwa seemed taken aback, his mouth slightly agape, and Jieun scrunched her nose as you walked away, mostly confused.
"Y/n!" Minah ran up to you as you sat in the garden on the bench. She had glitter smudged on her cheek, and she was holding a half-finished drink.
"What do you want?"
"I couldn't find you, I had to ask Seonghwa where you were. He said you were out here." She plopped herself down beside you. "You shouldn't go somewhere without telling me, I thought maybe you were in trouble..."
You sighed. "I'm sorry. I should've told you, right? I'm silly." You tapped your nose, chuckling sadly.
"You are silly!" She remarked. "But I'm glad you're okay....ish."
"Yeah..." you sighed, leaning your back against the bench.
"Are you...you know, okay-ish?"
"I'm okay-ish, but I'm not okay." You laughed, biting your lip. "Sorry...I shouldn't joke about that."
"No, it's fine. I have times when I feel sad, but I still laugh. We all do it, it helps a lot of people to cope."
You nodded slowly. "I can't stand seeing them together, if I'm honest. The way that he talks with her, holds her...kisses her- it just makes me feel..."
"Lost?"
You nodded. "Lost. But the type of lost where I feel like I'm in the shadows, and they get to steal the spotlight. Like if I'm not there, he doesn't even think of me."
"That's not true," she hummed, "you guys are best friends! He would never forget about you."
You sniffed a little, wiping away the stray tear that had found its way onto your cheek. "I thought I was over it, you know, until I saw him."
"And? How are your feelings?"
"Crushed." You laughed. "I want to be the one that he looks at like that, the one who he holds and gives kisses to...it it weird to want something like that?"
"Not at all. A lot of people want to be that person for someone."
You closed your eyes briefly, letting them rest. "I don't even want to be best friends with him any more."
Minah said nothing, shocked out of the ability to get a single word out.
"I can't talk to him without thinking that he has a girlfriend now, I-I can't even think about him without thinking about his girlfriend. I can't be around him comfortably without remembering that I have to be careful, because of his stupid girlfriend!" You huffed, finally letting the first tear roll down your cheek. "If I'm ever going to move on from him, then I need to stay away from him. I won't talk to him, or intentionally see him, it'll be easier for me."
Minah pursed her lips gently. "Are you sure you want to do that? You'll lose him."
"I'll lose him anyway. I don't want to live being best friends with him if I know I can't have him- if I know I'm not the one that he'll come home to."
Minah nodded. "I understand...but maybe you should think a little more about what you're doing. Think about him? He might be crushed-"
"But I'll finally be happy." You stood up, wiping your tears with the sleeve of your dress. "I've made up my mind. I want nothing more to do with Park Seonghwa."
As soon as University started, and you two went to the same one as you planned in high school, that's exactly what you did. You ignored him whenever he tried to get your attention, and when he stopped you in the middle of hallways. When he called you, you didn't answer. He would text you every day, as an attempt to reach out, but you didn't answer, no matter how much you wanted to. When you finally graduated, he tried to congratulate you on your graduation, despite having been ignored for three whole years, and you ignored him again. You never spoke to him directly, only to a friend about him.
After graduation, it was easier to handle as you moved out of home to Seoul, to look for job opportunities. By then, you hadn't said a word to him for three years. You could tell he was distraught, and despite how much you fought to stay away from him, he would keep contacting you.
His girlfriend of three years, Jieun, reached out to you once, but you told her you wanted nothing to do with her or her boyfriend. You heard they'd moved in together and worked just a few blocks from each other and would meet up for lunch - which was just one of the many stories your mother would tell you about them.
No matter how much you tried to block him out of your life, at least once a week you'd get an update on him, or a message, or an unanswered phone call which went straight to voicemail.
When, finally, at the age of 23, you stopped receiving anything. It felt strange, the first week of nothing. No contacting, no news of him from your mother, just radio silence. It was the first time you went a whole 2 days without the thought of Seonghwa popping into your head.
When you recieved a promotion and was appointed deputy head of the editing department at 24, you had forgotten all about Seonghwa. You hadn't thought of him, even as a long-gone memory, for over a year. At that point, he felt no different from a stranger.
"Y/n!" One of your close friends and colleagues Jungwon pounded onto your apartment door, and you opened it begrudgingly.
"What?" You laughed, unable to help the smile on your face.
"I brought chicken~" she sang, strolling into your apartment and placing the bag onto the table. She made herself comfortable on the sofa. "I also brought alcohol, specifically beer, because I know how you are, but most of all...chicken!" She smiled proudly.
"I would thank you, but I already ate."
She groaned. "I told you I was going to come over!"
"I didn't think you were actually going to do it! You can be pretty lazy at times, missy."
She tutted. "Anyway, I'LL eat."
You scoffed, slumping down onto the sofa. "I'll just have a drink, okay? But you- don't drink too much, you've got to go back home."
"Why? It's the weekend! I can stay here!"
You sighed. "Okay, fine. But just don't drink so much, you're a loud drunk. The landlord'll shout at me again."
She nodded, not really paying attention and opening a can. You cracked open a can, and felt a tug at your heart.
'I love days like this.'
'Me too.'
"Ah..." you sighed, gulping down the drink quickly, trying to banish that thought back into the realms of your mind.
"What's up? You look like you're in pain."
"I'm fine." You smiled, glugging the rest of the can down and letting out a gassy burp.
"Jeez...slow down. You're worse than me." Jungwon chuckled.
"I just want to be drunk." You commented, opening another can.
"So you're drinking away your problems..." she sighed nostalgically, "I know that feeling all too well."
You let out another light burp, tipping the can back into your mouth to empty the rest of it.
"Okay, stop. This is getting a bit ridiculous."
"No, I want to get drunk." You shook the hand that she had put on your arm, and with a tingling stomach, you grabbed another can.
"Y/n, stop!" Jungwon grabbed the can and placed it back onto the table with a concerned look in her eyes, compliemented with anger. "What's wrong with you right now?"
"Nothing." You laughed, "I told you, I just want to be drunk."
"You rarely ever want to be drunk. Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not really." You sat back, feeling the alcohol burn your throat.
"Come on, Y/n, you can tell me."
You sighed, rubbing your eyes with your fingers, then pinching the bridge of your nose. "Fine. I'll tell you."
For the next few hours, you spoke with Jungwon about your past with Seonghwa, explaining every detail that you thought was relevant to the story, even if it meant describing Seonghwa's beauty with long, tedious analogies and metaphors which mostly blew over her head.
"Wow..." she sighed, glancing at the time. "3 hours...and you said you don't have feelings for him anymore?"
You laughed, placing the final finished can of alcohol on the table. "I'm pretty sure I don't. I mean, it's been 6 years since I've spoken to him."
"What is he doing now, anyway?"
"...I honestly don't know." You laughed, feeling slightly tipsy from the alcohol, but nowhere near drunk.
"Anyway, I think I'm gonna head off to bed now."
"You can sleep in my bed, I usually fall asleep watching TV on the sofa."
"Oh, thanks."
The next morning you woke up, neck aching from having slept in an unusual position. You grabbed the cans from the table and crushed them underneath your foot, placing them into a small carrier bag. Despite it being August, it was still fairly warm outside, and you threw on a jacket to take the cans outside to the trash. One by one, you threw the cans into the large dumpster bin full of metal.
With the last can, it slipped out of your hand, and you felt a stinging sensation on your palm.
"Ah..." you winced, squeezing your wrist as the blood dripped out of your hand. "Shit.."
You immediately called Jungwon, who was probably still asleep in your bed.
"Jungwon." You stared down at your hand, which had coated the rest of your hand in blood. The wound was pretty deep, and the pain made you feel slightly lightheaded.
"What?" Her voice was heavy with sleep, and it was clear she had just woken up.
"Can you take my car and drive me to the hospital? I cut myself in one of the cans and it won't stop bleeding."
"Uh...yeah, sure." She hung up the phone after.
A few minutes later you sat in the car, squeezing your wrist to limit the blood trying to escape from the cut.
"Shit, you know, I didn't think it was going to be that bad, it looks like...at least two centimetres deep."
"Well, I did say on the phone that it was bad...ow, it hurts." You winced, biting your lip.
"We're almost there, okay?"
"Yeah."
When you entered the hospital, you walked straight up to the desk and presented your hand. "Can anyone see me right now?"
The woman at the desk nodded, and took your details, and quickly gave you directions to a room as she called someone. You heard the name that she said, and you immediately looked up at Jungwon.
"Excuse me," you laughed awkwardly, "can I have a different doctor? Not that one, please."
"I'm sorry," she pressed the phone against her shoulder, "we don't have anyone else available at the moment."
"Oh..." you sighed, giving up and finding your way to the room. There was nobody in there, and a nurse standing outside instructed that you should sit in there and wait for the doctor to come. Your nerves got the better of you and you spent a few minutes pacing around.
"I heard her correctly, right? Seonghwa? Seonghwa."
"Seonghwa." Jungwon nodded. "Are you gonna be okay?"
"I don't know." You laughed anxiously. "What do I say? Do I pretend that I don't know him? Do I pretend that I do know him, because I mean...I do know him, and what do I do if he brings up our past?"
Jungwon pulled a strange face. "I'm sorry, I don't know what you want me to say, I only got introduced to this situation last night."
"Ah, it's fine." You sat down, bouncing your leg up and down. "God...and I look like a mess! I've got blood on my sweatpants and my hair's a mess, I don't even have a bra on!"
"I really don't think doctors care about that."
"I should've at least put some makeup on."
"After slicing your hand open on serrated metal?"
You groaned, putting your good hand to your forehead. "I can hear someone coming, how do I look?"
"Like you just woke up."
"Oh, for fuck's sake-"
The door opened, and you shut yourself up, watching Seonghwa walk into the room. He was holding a clipbaord and wearing a lab coat. He looked good, I mean, really good. You thought he had peaked at age 16, but he looked so much more handsome at 24.
He glanced down at the clipboard, before looking up.
"Name?"
"Uh...L/n, Y/n."
"Okay." He scribbled on the clipboard. "Sorry I'm late, I just had to clean up an old man's vomit down the hallway." He smiled. "What can I help you with?"
You blinked, confused by the distance between the two of you, even though you assumed he could remember you. Unless he couldn't recognise you with makeup on...oh thank God.
"Um, this." You held your hand out, and there was an incision on the circular part on your palm which connected to your thumb.
He hummed at it for a moment. "How did you do this?"
"I accidently caught it on a can I was throwing away, and it just...slice..." you mimed, sending an embarrassed glance over to Jungwon, who was sat on her phone in the corner, trying to contain her laughter.
"Were you with her at the time?" He glanced at Jungwon, who cleared her throat.
"Um, no...S-sir."
"Just call me Doctor Park." He smiled.
"Oh..."
"Anyway, you should be careful with cans, people don't realise how sharp metal can get. It's why we use it for knives." He grabbed a syringe and a bottle with liquid in it, and filled the part of the syringe up with said liquid.
"W-what is that for?"
"It's local anaesthetic. I'm going to inject this into you, it's a similar pain to a flu vaccine, and it's going to numb the area around your wound."
"Why do you need to numb my hand?"
He glanced up, confused. "Well, would you rather me stitch your cut up without any pain relief?"
You gulped.
"Well?"
"Oh, you want me to answer...uh, no."
"Okay. Then the most you'll feel is a sharp scratch, alright?"
"Can you count down, or something, I have a feeling this is going to-"
"Now." He pushed the needle under your skin, and you shook your hand, whining slightly at the pain. A chuckle escaped from his mouth.
"Holy fuck! That hurt way much more than a 'sharp scratch', a-and why are you laughing? You shouldn't be laughing at a patient in pain!"
"I'm laughing because it was your reaction, Y/n..."
You blinked, feeling your stomach drop at the nostalgic feeling. The look in his eyes, his laugh, the way he called your name, everything was the same.
"You...remember me?"
He nodded, grabbing a needle, a pair of tweezers and what looked like plastic thread from a few of the cabinets. "Of course I remember you."
"Oh..."
"I wouldn't look at this if I were you, not many people like looking at this part."
"Oh, okay..." she looked down, staring at the floor in front of his feet. He took her hand once again, which luckily she could still feel, and pressed a needle into her skin.
"Can you feel that?"
She pursed her lips. "I can't."
"Okay."
He put on a pair of blue latex gloves to disinfect the area. He then began stitching the area up slowly and precisely.
"So...how are you?" He asked.
"Good." You responded.
"Is that it? Just good? The last I remember speaking to you was at the party where you told me you would go outside, and then I never heard a word from you...until a few minutes ago."
You cleared your throat. "Please don't talk about that sort of stuff with me. I had my reasons-"
"I'm sure you did."
"-So leave it in the past." You warned. "I just came here to get my hand fixed. We'll go back to not speaking once I'm gone."
"Then I hope you never leave."
You chuckled bitterly. "I thought doctors were supposed to be professional."
"I am being professional. I'm just making light conversation, I want to get to know you again...the older you."
"Please stop speaking, I've had enough."
He said nothing after, which was a relief, and he finished stitching the wound off and cutting the extra off.
"I need you to come back in a week so we can take these stitches out. It should be ready to heal on it's own then. However, until then, try not to use your hand too much, keep it away from water and don't stretch your hand out or grab things."
"Okay. Thank you."
"I'll see you next week."
"Ah..." she turned back to Seonghwa, who was beginning to fill out her form, "I'd appreciate it if a different doctor helped me next week."
He chewed the inside of his mouth. "Fine."
"Thank you, doctor."
"You're welcome."
Yourself and Jungwon sat quietly in the car. Most of it was spent waiting for the feeling to come back into your hand. The blue stitches looked particularly gross, and you felt the urge to pull them out like pulling out a shoelace from a shoe.
"Can you feel anything yet?"
"Not yet." She poked her palm, feeling nothing, as if she were touching somebody else's hand.
"Hey, you didn't tell me Seonghwa was so handsome."
"Stop...please, I don't want to hear about him anymore."
"Sure." She smiled sheepishly. "The good news is, I didn't see a ring on any of his fingers."
"He's 24, not 32. I didn't expect there to be one, anyway."
"He's kind, though. Not many doctors will speak like that to their patients."
"Jungwon..." your voice became louder, "please be quiet. I'm getting a headache from hearing his name so many times."
"Sorry..."
Over the next week, you went to work as normal, although had to type with one hand, write paperwork with one hand - without the use of your dominant one - and cook, clean, wash yourself with one hand. You asked for help from your coworkers a few times, and they reluctantly agreed.
Jungwon drove you back to the hospital on the Saturday, where the woman at the desk directed you to a different room this time, which more than got your hopes up. Jungwon was waiting in the car, so you were alone as you entered the room. You sighed, sitting down on the chair. "I told you last week I wanted somebody different."
Seonghwa spun from the computer to face you, wheeling himself over with an amused smile. "This is a hospital, you can't just pick and choose which doctor you get."
"I wish I could..." you sighed, holding your hand out. "Just get it done quickly."
"This procedure is longer than the last. I have to take the stitches out, then add tape to hold the cut together, and then bandage it up."
You tutted. "Stop talking about it and just get it done, then."
Seonghwa sighed, disinfecting your skin and then injecting you again with the local anaesthetic, which this time didn't hurt that much - and you wondered whether last time he had injected directly into your wound. (It sure felt like it.)
Seonghwa added the tape to either side of the cut which helped to pull the skin together to seal it easier, and then he added a bandage on top, occasionally asking if if was too tight.
"How does that feel?"
"Better." You nodded, curling your fingers.
"Be careful," he took your hand, "don't move it about so much. It's still healing."
You slowly pulled your hand away. "How long will it take to heal?"
"A few weeks for it to fully scab over, maybe a few months until you get the scarring."
"I'll get a scar?"
"Well, I think so. The skin is too disrupted for it to be able to heal correctly. Just don't pick at the scab, and follow the rules I set you last week for a couple more weeks."
"Ugh..." you sighed, "I feel like grandma at an old people's home, I've had to ask everyone to help me do things."
He chuckled. "You don't have any strange tingling sensations or loss of control, right?"
"No, why?"
"Sometimes you can sever a nerve, which means you can lose feeling and control in some of your fingers or thumb."
"Have you seen that before?"
He nodded. "I was relieved when you said you didn't, because a lot of people who have cuts that deep will lose motor control in the part that they hurt."
You nodded slowly. "Well, thanks, I guess." You grabbed your bag and slung it over your shoulder.
"Y/n." you stopped for a moment, looking at him. His eyes were comforting and calm, and you felt safe in them once again, even though you knew they would just entice you once again, and it would probably hurt even more the second time.
"Do you want to grab a drink with me, later?"
You thought for a moment. "Sorry, I don't drink."
He chuckled. "That's fine. Maybe we can catch a meal together, or, are you going to say you don't eat, either?"
You laughed, smiling. "Good guess. But I know you're smart enough to get the hint. I want nothing to do with you, Seonghwa." Annoyed, you pulled the door open with your good hand. "Goodbye." You waved.
"Hey, Y/n-" you slammed the door behind you, letting out a huff of air, riddng yourself of your anger. "Good..."
The next few weeks were spent exactly the same as the previous, and you changed your bandage after every shower, and went to the local doctors to check on it, not daring to step foot into the hospital again.
One day, after being bailed on by Minah and Jungwon, who had gone out to the arcade for the night, you went to a midnight snack bar to drink alone, to feel something in the few weeks of monotonous work that you had to do.
It was quiet, the bar, and it was just you sat on a table, and a couple in the corner who were smooching and rubbing noses together like puppies in love. You scoffed, throwing another shot back. You were drunk. You felt drunk, certaintly, you felt like your brain was moving slower than you wanted it to, and you could barely keep your eyes on anything.
Thankfully, though, you were sober enough to still be able to be allowed another drink by the owner, who was watching you carefully, being the only lone woman in the place.
As you threw back another shot, someone sat down in front of you, facing you on the table. He poured himself a shot and drank it, letting out a sharp breath as the alcohol stung the back of his throat.
"What are you doing here?" You slurred, cheeks pink with heat.
"Getting a drink, you?"
"Trying to get away from you." You laughed, standing up. As soon as you tried to walk, you almost fell onto one of the other tables, but were caught by him, and sat back down.
"I hate you, Park Seonghwa." You yelled, drawing attention from the table with the couple, who whispered to each other.
"What? Have you never seen a drunk person before? I'm not drunk, though..." you sighed, pouring yourself another shot.
Seonghwa took the shot and drank it before you could even tough the glass.
"Hey! That was mine. Don't steal people's drinks." You warned, finger pointing out to his face. You poured another drink for yourself, which was then promptly snatched by Seonghwa, who drank it, and placed it back onto the table.

The Thief and the Tinker, Part 3: I See Fire
part 2
Part 3
Viren: Well how do you suggest we get him out?
Claudia: *grins, brandishes marshmallow on toasting fork* Unharmed is just another kind of harmed
Viren: Claudia no
Claudia: Claudia YES
I See Fire
Angst rating: 9/10
Viren is clever enough not to take the Silvergrove on alone, no matter how badly he wants Ethari to make him a magic key. Aaravos could be cooking in that pod for a while longer, but Viren still has a trustworthy and badass ally at his side.
Oh yeah, it's Claudia Time again!
Claudia is a powerful and imaginative dark mage, and she has the tainted Sun staff. So, you're the magefam, and you've made it to Xadia, to the edges of the Moonshadow Forest. And all you need to do to get the power of your dreams is to threaten one soft craftsman. But how do you find one specific Moonshadow elf in a hidden Moonshadow village somewhere in the middle of a giant spooky magical forest?
You burn him out.
Tumblr media
Credit once again to@random-fandom-ramble for reminding me of this forest fire headcanon, because it fits so well. and so I don't get all the blame for this one, lol
Because see, that's not ordinary fire. Oh, no. That's dark magic fire. We've seen that before. It leaves permanent scars. Remember Sol Regem's eyes?
Tumblr media
That's going to be the landscape when Claudia's fire gets through with the Moonshadow elves' home. Where I live on the US West Coast, they name forest fires, and if they combine, they get called complexes. So maybe we can name this fire the Dark Tragedy Complex? Because I do have to wonder... you could start a dark magic forest fire easily with a tainted Sun staff, but how do you put it out?
Two things are going to happen if these events should unfold. One is angsty. The other is also angsty but then amazing.
Firstly, Viren is going to get what he wants. He'll find Ethari, whose tree burned down :(. He'll show him the coins, and he'll offer a trade. Build what he wants and make it work, and Ethari can have his family back, uncoined and free.
And Ethari will say yes.
He'll say yes no matter what anyone else tries to persuade him to do, and I hope they do try, because see: Ethari has to make it look good. He has to make it look like he's all in on Viren's plan, to Viren. Even if that means turning his back on his people in their time of greatest need.
Secondly, the Moonshadow elves are going to be collectively homeless and bereft, hungry, injured, terrified, angry. They will have nowhere to go. They will be a people without a home. And no one else in Xadia will help them. Maybe they're too terrified to hide Ethari's people in case doing so brings Viren down on them, too. We've seen how ordinary elves flee in terror from dark magic. Maybe they're all fighting other issues, too. Viren knows all about stretching resources too far during times of crisis. Whatever the case, there will be no welcome anywhere in Xadia for the Moonshadow elves of the Moonshadow Forest.
But here's where it gets amazing. Because one hand will reach out. One small hand, from across the border. Good King Ezran will stand up on the seat of his throne and say, "You can stay here. I have forests. You're tired, you're hungry. You need medicine. Let me help."
And I'm gonna cry like a little baby.
How many cycles does this break, how many circles does it complete? Moonshadow elves used to live in Katolis before the border was created. When humans were under threat of total annihilation, the Moonshadow leader's daughter spoke up and asked for mercy. That mercy came in the form of land reassignment, and the Moonshadow elves had to give up their ancestral home, their Nexus, and travel east across the new Border. But that mercy got paired with justice, and the life-loving Moon Druids probably had to swear some kind of blood promise to keep an eye on the humans forevermore, and to kill any individuals who got out of hand, as if their sins were the Moonshadows' responsibility now.
That's got to breed a little resentment, a little superiority. "Look what we sacrificed for you, and this is how you act. Ungrateful." And maybe that was partially Luna Tenebris's goal: to hold to her vision of justice, she had to make the elves who shared her arcanum feel a little resentment. Moonshadows love life, but we can't have them being too soft to keep Xadia safe from dark mages, now, can we? I will never stop cackling over dragon politics okay, never
But the Moonshadow elves never figured on King Ezran. A soft boy who refused to let his father's assassination harden his heart, because every life is genuinely important to him. I've seen headcanons for Ezran getting the Sun, Earth, Ocean, and Stars arcanum. How about Moon, too? Because this is very Ethari of him, and if these stories of Viren's plan and the Moonshadow elves' displacement were actually to happen in tandem, the contrast between Ezran's soft choice and Ethari's hard one would be mindblowing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ezran completes the circle by inviting the Moonshadow elves to return to Katolis, to their ancestral home. They left long ago, paying the price for an act of mercy, but they were welcomed back by the mercy of humans, repaid after a thousand years, repaid in the face of tragedy. Tragedy on all sides. Tragedy Ezran wants to stop from happening, by being brave and caring and soft, and by being the first to break this thousand-year cycle between Katolis and the Moonshadow elves.
Rayla is his friend. And these are her people. It won't matter what they've done, only that they need help in a time of great desperation. And of course he'll help them. He's Ezran, and he's Katolis's greatest treasure.
Oh, what's that you say? Inviting the Moonshadow elves to settle in Katolis again would make it easier for Rayla to live with Callum in the future? Oh gosh, how about that? What a deal. *smug matchmaker noises*
And once the Moonshadow elves understand that they're safe and begin to trust Ezran--which could happen very quickly, because saving a Moonshadow elf's life when you didn't need to is a really fast way to prove you're trustworthy--maybe Ezran will be encouraged to take the next step toward peace, and eventually other elves and dragons will come to meet together to talk it over. And Ez will offer them jelly tarts, which they will love.

Back to Ethari, because we're not done with him yet. Ethari is soft, but he isn't weak. He won't be a willing pawn for Viren. He loves Runaan to the point of invention, and his devotion is more constant than the moon itself. He'll agree to do what Viren says, and he'll be Very Sad. But his spirit is in no way broken. Viren bribing him with the coins containing his family will only have the opposite effect. It'll give Ethari something to fight for.
We could get Focused Chaos Ethari. We could get Angery Trickster Ethari. We could get Rules, What Rules? Ethari. Let him try to steal the coins, try to break them, try to kill Viren, and be stymied at every turn, until he settles and seems cowed. And then all he does is craft his way out of the problem. What if we are gifted with Iron Man Ethari, who pretends to build a fake Key for Viren, but meanwhile he's really building a coinbuster with whatever he can get his hands on - primal stones, magically imbued gemstones, stolen artifacts, his own arcanum, his own reputation as the Master Craftsman of the Silvergrove. He'll use almost- almost - anything, to stop Viren and free his family.
Ethari may have to choose between those two things, though. And he's a hero, deep down, just like his family, just like his daughter. If he has to choose, he'll choose to stop Viren and save Xadia. He'll pay the same price as his family has if he must.
He'd let Viren think he was motivated purely by wanting his family back, but Ethari is far too steeped in the illusion and sacrifice for that to be all there is to his motives. It's a so-close-and-yet-so-far thing, how he and Viren almost embody the same ideals. Almost. Ethari would take one look at Viren, who just burnt down his whole Forest, he'd see the biggest threat in Xadia, and he'd say anything to get a chance to stop this juggernaut of destruction from getting his hands on whatever that ultimate power really is, locked behind that missing key. If he has to abandon his people and bawl his eyes out to convince Viren he's in, then he will.
And Viren wouldn't make it easy for him. He knows clever when he sees it. He went through all this trouble to persuade Ethari to work with him. He would need to keep Ethari as off-balance as possible to ensure that he keeps working as he should.
Angsty jewelry, anyone: Viren giving Ethari his husband in pendant form to remind him what he's working for, when Viren and Ethari both know full well that only dark magic can open the hellcoins. Ethari wearing another pendant of his love, except it's not a metaphor this time. It's literally his love, in a coin around his neck.
Viren would know that Ethari would have to stay close to Viren of his own free will if he ever hoped to free Runaan. And making people bind themselves to you is a big power flex. Remember that TDP stream future-season teaser note about Bait being in a creepy restraint in a future season?
Tumblr media
This card is written on in all-caps, so that really could be "Bait" or "bait," or--knowing this show--both. Viren's been using Runaan as bait for Ethari all along. Putting his coin in a dark magic pendant casing for Ethari to wear would be a great parallel for that. Oh god. Oh man.
Maybe he'll stab the coin's scary casing right through that circle on Ethari's chest, right over his heart, make that Iron Man reference really obvious. Ethari also losing his shirt at some point, for angsty Viren-related reasons? It's more likely than you think. I mean... Ethari is literally involved in both forms of forging at this point. Shirt's gotta come off for uhhhh work reasons. And because he's hot. Because of all the forging. I mean how else are we finally going to discover what his markings look like
I mentioned that I liked god-tier villains, right? Yeah, this is amazing. I haven't wanted to die and ascend over an idea for quite a while, but Ethari vs Viren in a drawn-out battle of wills would kill me in the best way. Especially since, while it looks like they're essentially fighting for who gets Runaan, they're truly fighting a much larger battle with much higher stakes. They're fighting for the future itself. It's an epic struggle between the Narrative of Strength and the Narrative of Love. And we've seen what happens, over and over, when the Narrative of Strength gets to call the shots.
On a meta note: If Runaan and Ethari's story arc isn't a love letter from one trauma survivor to another, and on a broader scope to all survivors who see it, I don't know what is. Sometimes life just chews us up and spits us out and we can't stop it and it breaks us. But sometimes we can reach out and grasp the chance to help each other, even after that, even when it hurts a lot, because we know what it means to be loved, and to love, and to want a safer future for each other and for people we'll never meet. The future is worth standing together for, helping each other back up for, fighting side by side for, even if you can't see how it'll end, or even how to begin. We are stronger together, and sometimes we need to fight for our "together" before we can fight for anything else. And that's worth it, every time.
This is glorious, it's beautiful, it's tragic, it's amazing, it makes me want to dance, it makes me want to scream into the void, it makes me want to slap someone with a semi truck. No, someone specific, don't worry, and he super deserves it.
Because Ethari is going to win. He was always going to win. He's soft, and he's clever, and he hasn't forgotten what love means. It's what he's fighting for. Not power, not control. Love. He doesn't want to dictate Runaan's future, or anyone else's. He just wants his husband--and everyone else--to have one at all.
So he's going to win.
What beating Viren looks like, I can't guess yet. TDP is no stranger to angst, so there will probably be a high cost involved in thwarting the dark mage. Maybe not everyone can be rescued from the coins. Maybe Ethari will lose his life, or his soul, or his vision, or something else really angsty. Viren could even kill him and resurrect him as a smoky craftsman, or a zombie craftsman, or something equally biddable but horrible. The only thing I'm sure of is that Ethari would never willingly make a working Key of Aaravos Ethari as long as there's a chance Viren could possess it. But I do believe that if he gets the right opportunity while he's busy saving the world from Viren's dark intentions, he'll break his husband's hellcoin open somehow and set him free, even if he has to smile at the devil to do it.

First of all, thanks for replying. And thanks to the people in the notes who followed up, as well. In terms of interests, while I would love someone who shares a lot of them, I really only have one that's necessary. As an aspiring game developer, games are my art form, especially the world building and the mechanics and systems in place. I want someone who shares this love, who I can bond over with. Anything else would just be icing on the cake. In terms of appearance, I'd prefer if she were shorter than me by a good amount, ideally at or below 5' 6" but I'm fine as long as she's not above like 5' 10". I'm not the leanest person myself, I've got a little belly, but I'm working on it and slowly losing weight. I don't mind if she's a little chubby either, but if she's really fat I just can't go with that. I'm probably a little hypocritical here as I'd obviously prefer someone who's in shape, but I can find some heavier women attractive as long as they're short and feminine. I dislike body modifications, and would prefer someone without any, but I could deal with a few small tattoos and a few piercings, as long as they're not gauges or septum piercings. And obviously she needs to want kids (but not have any), needs to be not a full-on leftist (I'm fine with a centrist, conservative, or ideally a libertarian), and just have a nice personality that gels with mine. I tend to be a pretty low-key, somewhat boring person, and have trouble dealing with people who have "big" personalities. I find that at my age, it's hard to find someone who wants kids but doesn't have any, and who likes games but isn't butch or seriously fat or really punk or whatever. Those are pretty much my lines in the sand, appearance and personality-wise. Do I have too many of them? Are there things I should care less about? As I said, I've never been in a relationship, so I really don't know what's important and what's not. I'm just basing what I want on what I personally prefer.
And I know what I need to do to become more attractive, myself. Lose some weight, get a better job, move out. Is there anything else I need to do, and what should I prioritize? Right now I'm thinking about trying for a raise at work, but I'm also worried it'll put me over the pay limit for subsidized healthcare, and I've got a lot of health problems that are out of my control. I'd need to jump to a job with actual benefits to make it really worth it, so it'll be hard just moving up gradually.
And finally, just because I'm spilling everything out here anyway, there's a girl at work who recently broke up with her boyfriend of 5 years who I've been becoming quite friendly with. She's always enjoyable to talk to, and she seems to like me at least as a friend. However she's not got a lot in common with me. There's a guy who clearly likes her, and she has a friend that's probably into her, and I knew her ex and they all have a similar look that's very different to me. I think she also tends to go for "bad boys" and I'm definitely not one of them. She recently asked about my interests and stuff kind of probing more deeply, but since I basically haven't had any friends for years I don't know if that's just what's normal or if she's actually a little bit interested in me. Honestly I'm not sure what to do or if I should even do anything. She's basically a normie and I'm borderline autistic. I'm not used to anyone actually being interested in anything about me and I don't know how to tell one kind of "interest" from another. And considering she's a coworker and I enjoy her company, I don't want to fuck anything up. What do I do?
Ok there's a lot to unpack here...
First of all, I'm not going to be that person who tells you looks don't matter because let's all be honest here for a second, they do and anyone who says otherwise is lying for internet morality points. Obviously if you're going to date someone, you need to not be repulsed by their physical appearance.
But. Looks are not the most important thing and they're also not permanent. Plus in my experience, the more you get to know someone, the more attractive they become to you because you just see people differently when you love them. So don't worry so much about finding the most beautiful girl you've ever seen, or being the most handsome guy she's ever seen. When it's right, that stuff will handle itself.
(Also, I'm not saying you did this, but if you put all that in your online dating profile, please delete it immediately because it will scare women off if it's public and even if it's just for the algorithm, you're probably losing a lot of potentially good matches by being too specific)
I would think a little more about personality. It can be a lot harder to define that than appearance, but that's the part of her that you're going to really fall for. What does "big" personality mean to you? Does that mean just being loud, or is it a certain kind of humor, or just being extroverted or outgoing? Think a little about the people you enjoy spending time with and figure out what it is about them that makes you want to be around them. Interests are a good starting point, but try to think about what drives those interests and how they express them.
And think about you too. How would you describe yourself? I'd guess with your interest in game development, you probably have a big imagination and attention to detail, yeah? Do you have a dry sense of humor, maybe? Are you a patient person? Do you prefer to be busy or to take it easy? When you get stressed out, what calms you down? What are your values in life?
Think about what kind of person complements all that. Remember you're looking for a partner, someone to build a life with. That means the two of you have to make a good team. You'll bring out the best in each other and compensate for each other's weaknesses.
As for the changes you think you need to make, I'm going to let you in a little secret about women: there is nothing sexier to us than a guy who has his shit together. And that doesn't mean you need a fancy law degree and a six figure office job and a mortgage. It means knowing who you are and what you want and be working a clear, realistic plan to get there.
So yes, everything you mentioned is probably a good idea because it sounds like that will help you have more confidence and get on more solid ground with your life and future. But as for what you should do first, just focus on what is best for you, not for some hypothetical future wife you haven't met yet. It sounds to me like you've still got some healing to do and that needs to be your priority.
But when you're ready, the only thing to do is start talking to people and go on lots of dates that will mostly go nowhere. That's okay. The point is to meet girls and see if there's enough there for a second date, then maybe a third, and so on. You're not looking for something that's perfect right away. You're just looking for a starting point to build something more from.
In your case, yes, you probably do need to find a girl who at least has some interest in video games. It's going to be too much of your life for her to not at least be willing to indulge you when you want to talk about the game you're working on. I would guess that there are a lot of girls in "nerd" category who maybe don't know much about video games but would be interested if someone they cared about wanted to show them. Or if you really want to start off with just a pool of people who are as interested in game development as you, I'd hazard a guess that there are conventions or online forums on the subject. Maybe check out some of those and just start talking to people. Maybe it goes nowhere. Maybe you make a new friend. Maybe more. Who knows?
As for the girl at work, I think you're setting yourself up to get hurt. Girls who go for bad boys don't usually change their habits easily. She may be interested in you because you're not like her ex and she's trying to try something different, but that doesn't usually last. It isn't that you're doing anything wrong, it really is just how girls like that are. And it doesn't make any sense but it's how it is.
In general though, if you're getting to know a girl and you're not sure if she's looking for a friend or a boyfriend, it's okay to ask. Don't be creepy about it or anything, but it's okay to say something like "I just want to make sure I'm not reading too much into this." And be prepared to drop it if she says she just wants to be friends.
(Also my rule for dating coworkers is this: if it's a job you plan to stay at long term and you work closely together, the answer is no. If it's more of a temporary thing or you really only pass her in the hall once a week, that's probably okay as long as your company doesn't have some policy against it)
Bottom line, you're overthinking this. Love isn't logical. You can make all the plans and checklists in the world and none of them matter because that's just not how it works. Trust me, if it was, I'd be married by now too.
All you can really do is be the best version of yourself for you, meet a bunch of people, probably get your heart broken a couple of times along the way, and eventually you'll find someone who makes it all worth it.
-
As a side note, are you in a good church? If you're a person of faith at all (and I'm an atheist, so no judgement if you're not), I think having a community like that around you would be good for you right now.

I'll state from the beginning that the images below display the sort of sweet synchronicity to which only love can give life:
Tumblr media
MaAndPaShipping is the best ship, and here are five reasons why:
Tumblr media
1. It Made James
Like the boy do yer? Ever felt the slightest tingle of warmth at the mention of his name?
Well get down on yer knees and give thanks to his mother and father for gifting him to the world!
Where would we be without their remarkable commitment? Could James have grown into the dandified dream boat of your desires if deprived of the safety provided by his parents?
Had they not brought him up, he'd be dead, The Dog of Flanders fantasy made reality. If miraculously he survived, foraging in the wild is not conducive to a foppish personality.
Is that to yer fancy? No? Then let's have a little respect. The luxury Ma and Pa gave enabled his macaroni tendencies to reach such heights.
Their love created him! How can it not be celebrated?
You lot would ship Jessie's parents but you can't, because she has no dad, and I don't suppose you'll ever assent to his obvious identity of Windy Miller, although 'Jessie Miller' has a wonderful ring to it, so what can be done?
Should a Pa Jess be conjured for the purpose, he still buggered off, didn't he? Where's the allure in a faithless git?
I can't comprehend the obsession with Ma Jess. As soon as here she's stiff, and what is there to remember but coercing her daughter into eating snow?
Hey, I named her. What more do you want from me?
I'd rather have the living, visible ancestors, if you don't mind.
Yeah, says the history fanatic.
Why not make the most of the chances offered, and follow a devoted couple whose love made a difference to your existence?
Tumblr media
2. Canon!
There are many ships which I find repulsive for involving depravity, or absurd as the subjects haven't met, or don't inhabit the same fictional universe.
Video et taceo: I see and I say nothing.
Neither does anyone. Forcing decent folk in to incest, bestiality etc. is quite alright.
Perverted ideas are left alone, but woe betide a Rocketshipper, because that's offensive.
It may be the only original ship left standing, with proper evidence and sanctioned by Nintendo, but no, it's fair game for undermining. People pick at your arguments, quibble constantly and NEED to register their objections NOW. You MUST be made aware of opposition. You're not to be permitted your views the way those with twisted tastes are indulged.
Why, out of tens of thousands of combinations, does making Jessie and James an item provoke hostility?
The strength of negativity actually serves as validation, for why be so concerned if it's an impossible relationship?
However sick they are, I'm not anti any ship. I can't muster sufficient interest to do it, and if I scroll on, I forget. I certainly don't attack those responsible.
Anti-Shipping is inherently nihilistic for promoting loneliness. They aren't against Rocketshipping through wanting Jessie and James to be with someone else, as an alternative is not readily available, so the outcome of it is neither finding a companion.
MaAndPaShipping attracts no sourpuss silliness, for 'tis canon beyond question. There's nothing about being 'just friends' when married with a son.
How's the state of your O.T.P.? Not looking too clever I expect, and what's your contribution: wishing, and hoping, and thinking, and praying?
Cast it off! None of that longing is necessary in these quarters, as MaAndPaShipping is a fait accompli.
Hallelujah! Wallow in that Love!
Don't you yearn for at least one ship that all of us accept by default, to the extent these aristocrats are spoken of as a single unit?
Across the internet, Ma and Pa are bracketed as 'James's parents', never 'he' and 'she', always 'they', barely counting as distinct characters. That's how undeniable the love is between them. Sheer indifference has awarded it a blessing from everyone.
MWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!
Of course, now I've drawn attention to it the moaning will start, but we all know a spoilsport when we see one.
If they had any legitimate complaints they ought to have mentioned 'em before this piece highlighted the marriage!
Except it won't have occurred to 'em previously, proving the eternal, indissoluble quality of MaAndPaShipping.
You get good value with this one.
Find a post referring to Ma and Pa as individuals and I'll have written it, for that's what you call ironic.
Tumblr media
3. It's a Fine Rocketshipping Proxy
I was at primary school when Pokémon hit the West like the bright, bearded meteor it is, atomizing all competition for a child's attention.
I have shipped Jessie and James before I knew anyone else did it, unaware shipping was even a thing.
There are other pairs where I think: 'That seems to fit', but it's incomparable to what I feel for them.
It is part of me. I bleed it.
I have shipped it longer than most Tumblerries have dwelt upon the earth.
I used to believe, what with the hints and manga finale, that this resolution was  inevitable, and all I had to do was wait.
Well I've been patient for two decades now, thus when I look at the modern incarnation, and realise it's no nearer to that goal, and instead is further away, waiting starts to wear a bit thin.
I resent the lack of appreciation shown to the fans by the cretins in charge, how any meagre shippy inclusion is done not with an interest in deepening bonds, but with the blatant cynicism of moulding us into performing monkeys dancing to their manipulative tune.
I dislike being treated like a sea lion, expected to clap me flippers at the wave of a fish, or as a panting dog begging at top table, where, because they're desperate to maintain the status quo, every scrap flung down from above now comes with an Anti-Ship kick in the teeth, just to be sure nothing progresses. Not whilst the franchise can still be milked for all it's worth.
I have lost faith Rocketshipping will happen. What passes for Pokémon today carries not the remotest indication of any intention on the so-called writers' part to finish it that way.
Even if it did, it's not my Team Rocket, it's those skeletal, gargoyle bastardisations. My Jessie and James never got the reward they deserved.
I'm somewhat in the market for a replacement. Beneath this loathsome carapace of acid and ice beats the tender heart of a true romantic, and it must have an outlet!
Shipping Ma and Pa provides a certain spurious relief, because it's as close as you can get to Jessie and James without it being them, both biologically as his parents, but they're so similar to the duo it counts as proof in itself.
Holy Matrimony! is prime Rocketshipping territory, not merely the balloon lift, but many slight additions are as important, like the haircuts matching.
Ma and Pa are therefore Jessie and James in the past, present and future:
The past for representing Jess 'n' Jamie gone Victorian, and we've all wondered how that'd turn out.
The present as it's there right now, absent of suffering the shameless whims of morons to get what you want. 'Tis yours to savour.
The future as a glimpse of Jessie and James once married with children, and they agree:
Tumblr media
That's how they play it given the opportunity!
What, James in blue, for his and Pa's hair, and Jessie wearing purple, like Ma's, with a red shawl for her own, and Ma Jess's orange earrings to copy the beads?
• Money!
• Bun!
• 'Tache!
• Classy pad!
• Fancy gear!
• Pampered pet!
• Identical cups of Earl Grey!
Tumblr media
4. Original Blend
Ma and Pa have only got two fans! We care more than the entire fandom has in twenty years!
Rocketshipping art is ten a penny, so why not display a pioneering spirit, sharpen up those pencils and be inspired?
Let your mind expand and marvel at the possibilities of these unchartered territories, and I'll reblog it if it's nice.
Pay attention to the condition of it being nice. I'm not putting up with any old toss.
Real Ma and Pa is what I want too, not those Sinnoh coffin-dodgers.
It's never been done! Every drawing breaks new ground!
I don't like fan fiction, but I wouldn't say 'no' to that either. Recall the 'nice' stipulation again.
Come on, be the first amongst your friends and get ship shape!
Tumblr media
5. It Gives Us All Hope
Suppose your favourite amour one day became canon: you imagine that's the end of the matter?
Well it ain't.
Between Ash, Misty, Brock, Jessie, James, Gary and Tracey, there are three-and-a-half out of fourteen parents (Flint doesn't count as a complete man) and one out of twenty-eight grandparents, and that's not enough!
If the series drew to a close with your beloved couple apparently walking into the happily-ever-after, there's no guarantee it'll endure. In fact, the odds are they'll split up within a few years and leave another generation to fend for themselves or starve.
That's right, so don't presume the final episode is all you need to worry about. Can you rest easy knowing it'll go pear-shaped once the camera stops rolling?
It's futile soothing one's worries with:
Oh, but they know what it's like to be alone. They'd never inflict such stress on their children.
Oh really?
Look at that poor showing of grandparents. Either Pokémon has a system reminiscent of the sci-fi film Logan's Run, where everyone over thirty is vapourized, or these disappearing maters and paters were themselves victims of abandonment.
I bet when they settled down, they thought it'd be different for their kids, they'd make sure of it, but no, off they went down that same route of feckless self-indulgence, and that's being kind assuming they intended not to repeat history.
Depressing eh? What's the good in any of us surrendering to romance, real or otherwise, if love is but a mayfly of emotion, and all dreams are doomed to die?
Then Ma and Pa arrive, and suddenly the storm clouds part for a ray of heavenly light.
It's not only that they made the effort in what was probably an arranged marriage and have stayed together from youth, it's that they've stayed together when no one else has, which augments its value.
When separation is commonplace, sticking it out becomes rarer and rarer as any belief in the sanctity of wedlock erodes with every failure.
If they didn't bother, why should I? What's the use when it won't work?
Once that idea enters your head, it's over, and your gloom-laden attitude fulfils itself.
Society is collapsing about Ma and Pa's ears, but they persevere nevertheless, refusing to buckle under the turgid malaise engulfing the arrogant and weak.
It's bloody beautiful, man!
You may suggest an environment of supreme wealth erases normality, and to their class and time period divorce is still taboo, so they don't really have much of choice but to remain wedded.
Ah, but it's not as if they simply tolerate one another for appearances, or carried on for the sake of their son (which is more than anyone else did besides), not when he walked out on them.
They've been married longer than James has lived, so at least eighteen years (don't all squeal at once), and they're still blissfully contented!
They hold hands!
They use terms of endearment like 'dear' and 'my precious'!
They were made for one another!
They work as a team!
They want the same thing for James!
It could bring a stone angel to tears it's so beautiful!
See what success can be achieved when you try? When you endeavour to love the one you're with and make yourself worth loving in return?
Better that than chucking 'em at the first sign of trouble.
Ma and Pa is such an irrevocable union even the despair of losing their only child failed to tear 'em asunder, and that'd defeat many, but not this husband and wife.
Be grateful, for it means all is not in vain.
It doesn't have to be misery and pain: love can last despite the pressure of a wretched, hollow culture bent on self-destruction. Your ship might just succeed too.
God bless 'em for keeping the magic alive!
...
Why do I have the presentiment that I'm going to regret encouraging support?

Cosmo: it's not that Cosmo: I knew they weren't your people, you wouldn't have enjoyed hanging with them Amber: you don't get to make those kind of decisions for me Cosmo: I wasn't going to let them be dicks to you Amber: neither would I Amber: I can defend my own honour, thanks Cosmo: Well if I can, then I'm going to, simple as Cosmo: it didn't need to be a thing Amber: no, if you can keep me separate from them, you're going to Amber: that's what you mean Cosmo: I told you, you're not my type of person, I'm not yours Cosmo: that includes my friends Amber: you spelled out to me in great detail how I don't fit into your life the way it is, so why did you invite me out?! Amber: you made it into a thing Cosmo: you wanted to Amber: I wanted to, the way you said it would be, not THAT Cosmo: they usually go [different club] Amber: we could've left, I'd have gone to a different club with you Cosmo: wasn't my plan either Cosmo: you would? Amber: of course, I would've, I meant everything I said about not adding to the pressure that you're under Amber: but that doesn't mean I'm going to make it easy for you to smuggle me into dark corners like it's such a shameful secret that we're friends Amber: you don't get to treat me however you want because your life is hard Cosmo: I know it's fucked up Cosmo: and yeah, it saves me hassle, not going to deny it, but I don't wanna hear the shit they'd have to say about you, any more than I'd want you to hear it Amber: address it and you wouldn't have to hear it again, about any girl Amber: stop giving them a free pass to say things like that Cosmo: yeah, it's that easy Amber: It's not easy, nor is it easy being a girl getting treated like an object Cosmo: this is my career we're talking about Cosmo: I make their lives hard, they make mine hard for me right back Cosmo: I'd be off the team before I knew it Cosmo: it's not like they're rapists or anything crazy Amber: you've got better excuses than your brother, I'll give you that Cosmo: don't compare us Amber: why not? it's a variation of the same behaviour and I'm tired of it Cosmo: I'm fuck all like my brother Amber: at least you're sorry Cosmo: What's he done to you now? Amber: he hasn't done anything to me and this conversation isn't about him anyway Cosmo: Amber Cosmo: you can tell me Amber: you already know what he's like, I don't need to Cosmo: Sure, he's a little prick Cosmo: but why are you upset with him right now Amber: because there are girls there that are more vulnerable than me and the way you're acting like you need to stand up for me against your friends is what they need and aren't getting Amber: it was brought to my attention and I should've realised before Cosmo: what does that mean though Amber: I need to do something to help, I don't know Cosmo: you mean he's like hurt someone Amber: not physically, don't worry Cosmo: okay, good Cosmo: it sounded like you meant he'd like Cosmo: assaulted someone Amber: I'm sorry, no, it's not that Amber: like your friends, I'm sure he wouldn't Cosmo: don't girls have a whole code Cosmo: put the word out about him being whatever type of dick he's being, then you won't have to feel bad, it'll be on him and them Amber: I have Cosmo: there you go then Cosmo: they'll have the info to make their own decisions now Cosmo: opposed to whatever bullshit he might come out with Amber: I don't want to talk about Dash Cosmo: okay Amber: was your dad at your game? Cosmo: no, he was doing something with his girlfriend's family Cosmo: so I'll have to tell him now, that we lost Amber: how upset is he going to be? Cosmo: when he realizes why Cosmo: quite a bit Amber: you could lie, I won't sneak in through his window and tell him Cosmo: he'll see Cosmo: or talk to the managers Cosmo: I can maybe think of something that makes it sound better but he isn't big on excuses so Amber: they don't know why, do they? unless they were also at the club which is a bit hypocritical and strange Amber: but I was asking to see if you wanna do a meditation or something with me before you tell him Amber: this boy doesn't have a yoga mat, I could improvise though Cosmo: One of the lads practically sprayed the pitch Cosmo: weren't me but it's a sort of if one of us is in shit then we all are Cosmo: but no one else's dad will make 'em do extra training on top of the extra training Cosmo: it's fine, just not ideal Cosmo: I think you should leave, though Amber: why do you think I should leave? Cosmo: you don't even know who he is Amber: he's making brunch and I have manners Cosmo: if you had manners you wouldn't be using me for entertainment whilst you wait Amber: I'm not Amber: I'm making sure you're okay because I haven't seen or heard from you since last night happened the way it did Cosmo: You don't need to check up on me Cosmo: go enjoy your brunch Amber: you didn't need to either but you started this conversation to do exactly that Cosmo: I had no idea you were having brunch Amber: relax, 9, it isn't candlelit Amber: he's on his phone too Amber: just because I sleep outside doesn't mean I was born in a barn Cosmo: Does he know how old you are Amber: yes, I don't seduce men via deception Cosmo: how old is this man then Amber: 18, he's a boy really Cosmo: 🙄 Amber: what? Cosmo: bit weird on his part Amber: where did you meet all your stalkers and girlfriends? Cosmo: I've not gone out with an 18 year old Amber: you're behaving like I said 28 Amber: if I'd met him at school, it wouldn't even be an issue Cosmo: it'd still be weird Cosmo: you're a kid Amber: ⭐ Cosmo: Whatever Amber: it's not, stop trying to make me feel bad about this Cosmo: I'm not, I'm saying he's weird Amber: do you know him? Amber: because after your reluctance to let your friends anywhere near me, I don't think you're in any position to judge Cosmo: he's 18, you told him you were 15 Cosmo: speaks for itself Amber: boy, you're in the wrong career 👮 Amber: I'm fine thanks, officer Cosmo: 'cos sound lads can never get girls their own age Cosmo: it isn't my fault if you feel bad Amber: yes it is because last night is a weekly occurrence for you and it you know it wasn't for me Amber: so you don't get to tell me how I can or can't decide to make the best of something Cosmo: Then you should listen to me and go home Cosmo: for fuck's sake Amber: I can't walk home from here in this outfit, it's too far Amber: you think he's weird that'd be nothing on what I'd get from actual grown men if I do Cosmo: you can't make him give you money for a cab? Amber: I don't want to ask, because if he says no then you're right, and I don't want you to be right Cosmo: I'll ping you some now alright Cosmo: then we don't have to find out Amber: don't, I haven't got any way to pay you back Amber: you've spelled out your feelings about 🍏🍊🐓 Cosmo: would you rather chance it and get a lift back from someone you don't even want to ask about the taxi Cosmo: how else are you going to do it, don't be stupid Amber: 😠 okay Amber: but I'm staying angry at you Cosmo: do what you like, I don't care about the money or paying you to be nice Amber: what do you care about? I'll do something that'll benefit that Cosmo: just get home unmurdered, yeah Cosmo: that works for me Amber: are you home? I could make you brunch Cosmo: you just want two brunches Amber: yes, but I also want you to have one Cosmo: What are you going to make? Amber: after extensive research, a lot of footballers are vegan, are you? Cosmo: for the most part Cosmo: I eat fish sometimes Amber: oily fish is good for ⚽ that was part of the research and 🍣📸 is apparently part of the lifestyle Amber: but avocado toast with blueberry, banana and chia seed pancakes won't get me voted out of the commune Cosmo: alright nerd Cosmo: is he a footballer or what? Amber: no, he goes to some catholic school, I don't know it Cosmo: definite weirdo then Cosmo: nah, thanks though Cosmo: sounds good Amber: his parents house is pretty close to yours so don't ruin your appetite with snacks Cosmo: I don't eat snacks Cosmo: not even to piss you off Amber: never?! Amber: What about 🍏 🍎 🍐 🍊 🍋 🍌 🍉 🍇 🍓 🍈 🍒 🍑 🥭 🍍 🥥 🥝 ? Amber: or 🥜? Cosmo: if I was dying but nah Cosmo: little and often Amber: I'm relieved you're not dying Amber: it sounds like you and your friends partied harder than I did after we separated Cosmo: They did anyway Amber: you didn't? Cosmo: I never get as fucked up as them Amber: because you don't want to or because you're 💪🏽? Cosmo: I don't wanna be the one making us lose Cosmo: or losing my spot on the team Amber: it stops being fun Amber: if I make a decision I'd like to know that it wasn't my blood alcohol level that really did Cosmo: yeah Cosmo: think a lot of people do the opposite for the excuse Amber: not to side with your dad before I've even met him but I don't love excuses either Cosmo: it's a good rule, if a little tough Amber: I did think you were saying that was why you weren't as focused though Cosmo: can be, if you like Amber: but what's the answer? Cosmo: nosy Amber: secretive Cosmo: it doesn't matter does it Amber: it must matter to you if it's why you lost Amber: but it doesn't matter if you don't want to tell me, I'm still making brunch Amber: [show up and knock 9 times again gal] Cosmo: [shooketh lowkey like didn't think you were that close, also so many knocks, saying Indie is home so being over your shoulder like it's fine I know who it is as you open the door] Amber: [we know the vibe she's making herself at home immediately because she's that bitch, saying hi to his mum and asking her if she wants brunch too or just tea or coffee all the while in last night's extra af club lewk because awkwardness doesn't exist for her and we're getting in that kitchen and putting on music and dancing and cooking like we live here] Cosmo: [just introducing her because we're freaking out but then you're like, idk what to even say so you're calling her 'Dash's friend' which frankly makes this stranger though I guess explainable lol, lowkey not even looking at her because we cannot for all the reasons] Amber: [that hurt her heart because boy I'm literally making you brunch, we're friends, but we're not correcting that sentence, we're just chatting to his mum and doing all the things like he's lowkey not there] Cosmo: [oh boy, so lowkey rude truly on accident because you don't want the conversation I highly doubt your mum would start rn like OOOOOOOOH lol, gonna make your dad call you like he's found out so go outside and promise all the shit you're gonna do to stay on top] Amber: [Indie would never do you like that boy but we know where you're coming from and Amber isn't coming for your life rn either even if she doesn't understand because she literally tells her parents everything] Cosmo: [come in in a bit visibly more stressed even though you already were/always are, poor boy[ Amber: [at least the food would probably be ready by then because none of the things she was making would take that long and I assume his dad was going off for a while so she can just put the food in front of him] Cosmo: [look like ? as if you literally didn't compute she was really doing it until it's fully in front of you like oh 'thank you' also piss off now Indie/Billie sorry bye] Amber: [take your coffee and go gal before he has a breakdown please, the bae who isn't the bae needs to smile at him in a really genuine and adorable way because he remembered his manners] Cosmo: [smiling back but we're just distracted by all things so it's not as real as it can be though we trying 'what did you have for your first brunch?'] Amber: ['oatmeal' not said in a shady way but it's just reinforcing that the boy wasn't bringing his A game here] Cosmo: [just raising a brow and trying not to smile too smugly 'glad you put more effort in'] Amber: [😠 lowkey because he doesn't get to be smug like at least that boy made something he hasn't even made her a drink like excuse you 'I'm glad you like it'] Cosmo: [nudging her under the table with his foot like what] Amber: [a look like you know what] Cosmo: ['you want more oatmeal?' doing a bad mimic of her voice] Amber: [hitting him on the arm like stop, even if she has to lean across the table to do it] Cosmo: ['what?' well done for saying it] Amber: ['I like oatmeal more than you right now' because we're cross] Cosmo: ['hey' and reaching across the table to do the squeeze-of-the-hand-apology and then gesturing at her plate like let's just eat] Amber: [when he literally hasn't touched her before this so we're dying but eating like it's chill] Cosmo: ['this is a better way to do the footballer diet than I have been' for a compliment moment 'cos like everything we're being overly regimented duh] Amber: [leaves the pancake recipe in the chat for him because quick and easy tbh] Cosmo: 👍 Cosmo: [then doing it IRL like a nerd] Amber: 🤓 Amber: [but we're amused] Cosmo: that's you Cosmo: I'm evil, I remember Cosmo: [jokey 😒 'cos wants to be a Gryffindor 'good guy'] Amber: no, you're brave but not stupid Amber: [goes on a little slytherin pride style rant like this is how great you are] Cosmo: [just like 'say how you really feel about me' like it's all bants but listening to all her nerding out] Amber: ['I feel like you'd be a good friend to have' because we haven't forgotten what he said earlier] Cosmo: [penny dropping moment 'cos boys are that oblivious facts lol, shrugging like come on but clearly awkward 'what should I have said? after last night-' like are you even my friend now] Amber: ['You said what you were comfortable with' again not said in a shady way, just like yet again I'm not trying to make your life hard boy 'but after last night, if I were you, I'd want to pacify me'] Cosmo: ['how would you suggest I do that?' saucy saucy] Amber: ['I would suggest it comes from you, to be like, actually sincere'] Cosmo: [🤔 then being like hold up and go get that necklace honeyyy] Amber: [we're immediately putting that on even though it doesn't go with this outfit] Cosmo: [nodding our approval 'cos not risking saying anything rn] Amber: ['it's not a good luck charm, right?' like I'm not getting blamed if you lose again] Cosmo: [shakes his head 'if you start doing that kind of thing, can get a bit OCD, like'] Amber: [playing with this necklace casually 'maybe it will be for me' cos we're happy now that he's being nice] Cosmo: ['what do you need luck for?' actual question not being rude lol] Amber: ['next time you take me clubbing' we got bants] Cosmo: [just like alright, alright 'it was me who ended up having a shit night anyway'] Amber: [doing the hand squeeze apology back to him] Cosmo: [pulling away, not too dramatically 'cos not an ew moment, but clearly not her fault so like nah girl] Amber: [getting up to wash up because even though they've 100% got a dishwasher she wouldn't have ever lived anywhere that does cos hippie life so it wouldn't occur to her honestly] Cosmo: [finding a tea towel like I'll dry] Amber: [how coupley of you, love that, just grooving while we do this because of course] Cosmo: [gonna lowkey check you out 'you didn't do enough dancing...we'll have to go again, actually'] Amber: [just giving a horrified look like they're no such thing as enough dancing thank you but then loling 'we could do a friday night instead, if that works better for you'] Cosmo: ['alright' then pausing 'probably not for a while' 'cos we have all this extra training to do and people to appease so we gon' be busy] Amber: ['okay' genuine because she will wait and that's the tea, then I'm gonna take the bathtub moment from the OG convo we did because #mood and it actually works better now cos she does need to bathe lol so I'm saying she goes upstairs, making herself at home again obvs and calls 'bring me tea' over her shoulder as she goes like the queen she is] Cosmo: [it does work better and is needed so go ahead, though he is truly confused where she is going and why but like okay, pop off at this point] Amber: [excuse us Indie because you're assumedly still here lol] Cosmo: how do you take your tea Cosmo: we don't have green Amber: I don't like green tea, don't worry Amber: but I still take black tea that way, no milk Amber: what colour is your sugar? Cosmo: I think we might have some 🤎 in the baking shit if it's a dealbreaker Amber: if there is, I'll have some but it's not Amber: we run out of everything at home Cosmo: I'll be amazed if we have any left but 🤞🙏 Amber: at least you have hot water Cosmo: that's what you're doing Amber: 🛀🏽🧜🏽 Cosmo: don't get in yet Amber: why? Cosmo: your tea will get cold Amber: you're supposed to bring it to me, boy Cosmo: how am I meant to Cosmo: leave it at the door? Cosmo: close my eyes? Amber: I won't be able to reach it if you leave it there, and you don't need to be embarrassed Cosmo: I'm not embarrassed Amber: fine, neither of us will get accidentally scolded by hot tea that you're carrying around with your eyes closed then Cosmo: not clumsy, for one, do more research nerd Amber: oh, are you carrying it with your feet? I didn't realise, sorry Cosmo: you reckon all my skill is in my feet only? Amber: and your head, if footballers are still allowed to do that? Amber: but you're not a goalkeeper Cosmo: yeah, headers are valid Cosmo: rest assured, I can still get a full mug to you Amber: they are banned for children because the risk of brain damage is valid too, according to my research Amber: chronic traumatic encephalopathy Cosmo: big words Cosmo: all I know is rugby is rougher Cosmo: or I could be a boxer, so Amber: it also happens to boxers, I don't know about rugby players Cosmo: anything where you're getting bashed about the head too much Cosmo: most only do it when necessary but it's some people's 'thing' to assist or score rather than lose it in the scrabble of feet Amber: that makes sense, but we've digressed here away from the debate of how good you are, or aren't, with your hands Cosmo: what you mean is, we've digressed away from you getting your tea in a prompt manner Cosmo: diva Amber: yes and yes Cosmo: 😏 Cosmo: it's brewing Amber: thanks Cosmo: you can take back what you said about my lack of skills later, like Amber: if you have foraging skills for sugar, maybe I will Cosmo: see if you taste the difference Amber: now you're doubting my skills? I guess I deserve that Cosmo: your taste? Cosmo: happened last night tbh Amber: 😠 Cosmo: come on Cosmo: I could've said when we met Cosmo: I was being well nice Amber: if you'd said it when we met I'd have agreed with you Cosmo: I suppose anything's a step up Amber: the sex absolutely was Cosmo: thrilled for you Amber: there's still plenty left for you to make fun of him, and me, about Cosmo: I'd rather not Amber: I'd rather you didn't either but it hasn't stopped you so far Cosmo: just stop talking then Amber: talking to me like that isn't going to provoke me into giving you the silent treatment Cosmo: [just bring this tea up moodily] Amber: [taking it and saying thanks again as if you're just at the kitchen table or whatever instead of naked and chilling in this bath lol] Cosmo: [we are not looking and just shrugging like whatever idc] Amber: [splashing him obvs like stop being rude] Cosmo: [when you can't even be mad like your ma uses this bathroom 'cos clearly not so you're just scowling but not 👀 her] Amber: [just smelling everything that's on the side of this bath because you don't want to use anything that's Dash's] Cosmo: [doing our hair in the mirror as if we need] Amber: ['are you always like this when a girl wants to spend time with you?' do we mean rude or checking yourself out instead of her or both tbh] Cosmo: [big sigh and rubbing our temples 'you wanted a bath'] Amber: ['and you'd also rather I didn't do that?'] Cosmo: ['do you not think this is weird?'] Amber: ['You're making it bizarre now' because genuinely doesn't think it's weird obviously or she wouldn't do it] Cosmo: [scoffs like oh yeah, me] Amber: [splashing him bigger than before] Cosmo: [turning 'round like STOP but then you're just looking at her the most intense] Amber: [obviously looking back like please just say something or do something before we both die lol] Cosmo: [when you shake your head microscopically to say you can't 'cos you wanna so bad obvs] Amber: [when you're not even doing the pout for a pisstake it just happens naturally because likewise, soz for drawing even more attention to those lips like] Cosmo: [the noise you're barely holding back here 'you know we can't'] Amber: ['I know we could' because it would be so easy rn to let this happen and they both know it lbr and I can only imagine how her voice sounds rn, soz again] Cosmo: [shaking your head more vigorously to snap yourself outta it 'cos you must, and throwing a new towel down for her like there you go and making your exit] Amber: [doing such a cinematic and dramatic lay down in the water moment because ffs] Cosmo: [lord knows what you're gonna do with yourself boy] Amber: [she should literally leave right now immediately but we in this bath now so blatantly getting clean first, a lot quicker than she would of but still the idea makes me lol] Cosmo: [lmao, just glad you no doubt have a gym sesh or something now so get that frustration out but lord] Amber: [just gotta awkwardly leave here in that club lewk because we can't ask him for an outfit rn, oh gal] Cosmo: [ah the awks awks awks] Amber: [such fun, this is why I love you two, he cockblocks himself so we don't have to] Cosmo: [truly but also hate it lol] Amber: [we 100% need to give him a WAG girlfriend like remember when Joe had that cringey Blake Lively one back in the day] Cosmo: [oh lord yes] Amber: [I'm trying to think who looks like a WAG so we can give her a face for the lols] Cosmo: [I was thinking a character like Ruby from sex education, she's the only one I can think of rn, but that's a WAG-ish vibe] Amber: [I vibe that and I also have an idea how he could meet her like what if she's to do with the dad's girlfriend like when people are really extra about their goddaughters pretending like they are fam when they're for real not even] Cosmo: [that's a fat mood, just using your godmother to get a mans lowkey lol] Amber: [anyways that's for another convo, you can post this if you like]

The Bracelet | Brad Simpson
My native language is not English. That's why there'll be a lot of mistakes. So sorry.
Warning: Full of clichés.
*
"Tristan, have you seen my bracelet?"
You asked the blonde who's sitting on the couch with his phone on both of his hand. His legs were on the coffee table you all use.
"What bracelet?" He asked.
"The one I always wear." You said to him. You see him literally 7/24 but clearyly he doesn't pay attention enough. The bracelet was really important to you. You never take it off, even when you go in the shower. You had two best friends, three of you had the same bracelet. You wore it since you were 12 or something.
"I don't know. It's probably where you put it last time. " He tried to be funny in his own way. He gave you a little smile then turned back on his phone.
"Funny." You said with a voice full of frustration. You always get so angry so easily when you lose something and can't find it or when you're really, really hungry. You started to search the breakroom with a rush. Tristan didn't even mind you throwing everything in your way to the ground until the thing in your way is him. You poked him so he would stand up. Instead he searched under and near him with his hand but didn't find anything. "I think it's not here."
"It has to be. This is last place I've been yesterday before we go to that pub. If it's not here then I probably dropped it in there and it means it's gone forever. "
"Yeah, someone probably took it."
"Yeah." You refused to believe it's gone. You can't tell your friends you lost the bracelet after all these years. You all promised to each other you'll wear it until you're dead or something. They wouldn't mind it and probably tell you that it's okay but they'd be sad. You'd ve sad. Actually you already were. That's why you continued to tear up the room. It has to be around here.
"Woah. What's going on?" Connor asked when he entered the room. Probably here to have some snacks and relax. That's the only time he had while touring. But when he stepped up the room he didn't expect it to be like that.
"You've seen my bracelet?" You asked him, you got drunk yesterday. You don't usually lose yourself after drinking but maybe you gave it to him and you just don't remember now? It could be.
"What bracelet?"
"The one I always wear!" You said almost yelling. Any one of them noticed it you're wearing this bracelet like all the time? It's been so long you've been on the tour with them.
"I didn't see any bracelet."
"Are you sure? Maybe I gave it to you last night? Please say, yes you did."
You were about to cry. You really wished he would say yes.
"No. Sorry. Did you search your own room?"
This was such a stupid thing to ask. You didn't know it sounded so stupid because you're angry or because it's really a stupid question. If you lose something, you'll start searching for it in your room first. God!
"Of course I did. I searched everywhere!"
Connor tried to make it to the couch where it's comfortable. He carefully walked and tried not to step up anything you thrown. "Maybe you lost it in the pub. " He said and he sounded like it has just popped up in his brain. Like nobody could think of it before.
"I told you it's in the pub." Tristan said to annoy you.
"I'm going. You guys are no help." And intend to leave the room. "Hey! Who's gonna clean this up?" Connor yelled after you and you yelled to him before you close the door. "Not me!"
They were right. You lost it in the pub. The pub that has served atl least 40 people last night. One of the 40 people over there probably took it. You decided to go to your room and check it one more time even tough you made sure yourself it's not there the first fifteenth times you searched. You saw James and Brad are walking in the corridor. You ran towards to them. You hoped, at first, Brad didn't have it because you guys, kind of, had a fight. It wasn't something serious or it was. You weren't sure. You always have that kind of fights. He was just so annoying sometimes. But as long as you get your bracelet, it wouldn't matter if it was him.
"Hey. By any chance, did you see my bracelet?" You asked directly to James. You didn't want to speak to Brad until it's the only option.
"You have a bracelet?" He asked.
"Oh God! I wear that bracelet everyday! Are you guys blind or something?"
The second James realized you're mad, he wanted to get away from you. "I'm sorry, Y/N." He tried to be really polite and calm so it could have a mirror effect and you get calm too. " Haven't seen any bracelets." He said while trying to sneak out slowly.
He put his hand on your shoulder and patted it lightly. Then quickly made his way away from you and didn't care he left Brad standing with you. Once his hand was off your shoulder you turned to your last option.
"Did you see it?" You asked with a low voice. Didn't really want to talk to him. You don't clearly remember what you two had a disagreement about because you had a couple of drinks, he had too. But mostly because it was always something stupid but somehow it'd always become a much big deal than it is.
"The one that three diamonds on it?" He said and started walking. He wasn't looking at you, playing the bottle on his hand. He squinted and looked like he was trying to remember something.
"Yes." You said with a excitement. It was the only good news you had about the bracelet today.
"The silver one?" He asked and you nodded right away. You didn't care it was Brad who has found it or not. It has been found.
He kept walking very slowly and you were following his footsteps. "Is it the one also have this little stars on it?" He stopped and turned to you still his eyes squinted and you realized he's mocking you.
"Yes. Yes it is. Did you see it?"
"Nope." He said and walked away. You walked after him. " I have a feeling like you did."
He kept walking and his hair was flipping with every step he took. He opened the bottle of water on his hand and started drinking. Took one sip just to avoid to answer the question. You knew him very well.
"No. Didn't see any bracelets or find it on the sofa last night." He turned to you and gave you a smile knowing that it'll make you mad.
And it did.
"Okay, give it back."
"No."
"What do you mean no? It's important to me okay? Give it back."
"No. "
"Give it back Brad." You tried to sound more serious. You were serious before too but you needed to make it clear. But he wasn't just taking you seriously. He tried to keep his face emotionless but sometimes he couldn't help himself and a smirk that so annoying showing itself once in a while.
"Give it back!" You said with pitch highed voice. You hated that tone of yours but he was making you crazy and you couldn't help yourself.
"Nooo." He said.
You stopped with the idea that came to your mind. It was probably in his room and he never needed to lock it. It was probably open and you could've just find it there. He noticed you stopping and he did too. Turned to you and tried to understand what you're thinking. Before he could do that you started running to the other direction, to where his room is.
"Hey!" He yelled out after you and started running but it only made you faster. Once he figured out what you're doing he got fast too.
"Do you think I'm that stupid to hide it in my room?" He yelled after you. He didn't believe you would run this fast. He knew you weren't fond of running too much.
If it wasn't in his room, he wouldn't be running; you thought at first. But then maybe it was a trap so you would believe it's really in his room but it isn't. You didn't know and you weren't gonna risk it just because you didn't want Brad to fool you.
As soon as you reached out his room, you grabbed the door handle and yelled at him before you let yourself in. "No. Maybe even more."
You closed the door behind you and started searching but it opened seconds later. You didn't know where he'd put it and you didn't have a chance to search.
You stood right in the middle of his room. He knew where he put it so before you'd find it he would grab it and run away. So being calm was the right thing to do.
"Okay. " You said raising both of your hands to stop him and not to move closer. "Just give me the bracelet okay?"
He smiled, he knew he got the advantage of knowing where it is. He put his hands on his waist playfully and smiled. "You can have it on your own now you're here. " he said and pointed the room with his head. "Go on."
You tried to keep it calm and turned your head to look the room more carefully and started examine the room but still holding your hands still in the air like it was the thing that stopping him. Before you could understand he rolled down on his bed to the other side and reached the nightstand. And you saw your bracelet on his right hand.
"Stop goofing around and give it back. " You said and got your serious back again.
"Come and get it." He said with much wider smile this time. He held the bracelet closer to his head and pointed at it with his eyes.
You frowned. You were searching for that all morning. You were tired and exhausted. Playing games, making jokes weren't something you can handle now. "Can't you just give it to me?"
"You're a big girl. You can get it on your own."
You rolled your eyes. "You'll start running once I try to make a move."
"I might." He said laughing and still wandering his eyes on the bracelet. He wanted to play, well, you'll play. You, literally, jumped on him. He lost his balance a little but pulled himself together so quickly. You tried to reach for his hand that he lifted higher.
"We're almost at the same height, you're not keeping it from me for too long!"
And finally you grabbed his hand but he closed it and it was in his palm. You grabbed it and tried to pull under but he was strong. You only managed to drag it to your head level. And tried to make him open his fingers. He was struggling not to so hard and you hated he goes to gym almost everyday. His other hand was pushing yours.
He pushed you to the wall and it hurt your back a little but thanks to the change of position you got him to lower his hands a bit to your stomach. It started hurting your stomach too and It only made you angrier and you did the most stupid thing ever.
"You bit me! " He said in shock but sadly, it didn't make him open his hand but started trying to avoid another bite attack from you. And started laughing he remembered you bit him.
You didn't feel like laughing, your back was hurting and your hands got sweaty. And he was breathing all over you and it was making you more sweaty. You were using your all strength but still you were stuck between him and the wall. You gave up. You never did before. But you gave up at the moment. You loosened your grip and let his hand go. Not even giving him a angry face, just a face that showing that you're sick and done. You looked at him at eye.
He thought it was some kind of trick you trying to pull to steal it from his hands so he just kept smiling like an idiot and didn't take the pressure he was applying. He waited for a move. He was really having fun. Making you mad, constantly teasing you something he enjoyed somehow. And you were the perfect one to mess with because you liked it too. You were too stubborn to ever give up. It was making it too much fun.
When he saw you're making the similar expression you do before you start lying, he knew you were going for some distraction. You always do that when you realize what you're doing at the moment isn't working so you stop suddenly and do something different. He wasn't going to let you get away with it so he even got closer so you wouldn't run away.
"If you want the bracelet this much. Keep it. Don't want it anymore." You said and really meant it. One day he would give up and probably give it to you anyway.
"Uh-huh..." He hummed and nodded his head like he's buying what you're saying. A little smirk wasn't leaving his face.
"I'm serious."
It was something you said to make your lie believable so even it was for real this time. It didn't work. He thought you're faking it.
"You sure you don't want it? You even bit me for it! "
You remembered what you did and wanted laugh at your action like he does but didn't have the energy and will to do that.
"I give up. " You said even though you hate to admit it.
Brad lifted his eyebrows and opened his wider when his smiling this time. "Yeah, right (!)"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You rolled your eyes. He was right to not to believe you if he's not stupid but you were getting uncomfortable between his body and the wall. You wanted to get out of here.
Word ain't good enough so you wanted make him understand you really are done, with your eyes. So he did focus on your eyes and his' were screaming like "I know what you're doing and it's not gonna work!". He even opened them wider to to make you understand that he's still thinking this is some kind of act. He moved his eyebrows while waiting for your next move.
So you gave him the next move, probably not the one he's expecting. You put your lips on his started kissing him and incase he tries to let go, you put your hands on his cheeks. You didn't know why you did this but you know, somehow, you needed to do this. Probably for a long time.
Of course, you caught him off guard. He didn't know what to do at first so he let you push him. Once your back was off the wall you felt better but then it hit you, what you're up to? Where you going with this? You pushed him to the middle of the room, your legs hit the bed couple of times but all you felt was his lips. And they started moving what felt like a million years ago. Once you realize he was kissing you back, it felt different. You wanted to throw up and scream at the same time. Your heart race went wild and it wasn't because you weren't getting enough air.
You were holding him so strong so he wouldn't run away but when he puts his hands on your cheeks too. You loosened your grip and started actually thinking. You separated your lips from his'. Didn't give yourself and him the time to figure out what you did a little while ago. You grabbed the bracelet from his hand that was on your cheek. It was in the air now and it was empty.
You smiled so big to hide what you really feeling. "Huh, I got it." You said, hoping he wasn't seeing through your eyes and your fake giggle.
When you made the move, he knew it'd end up like this. But he found himself kissing you back even though he knew results would be like this. But he didn't predict that it would make him feel so bad that it was just for a game. It gave him a cold feeling in his neck.
He gave you the same smile you gave him. He nodded slowly and showed his teeth more to make it more real. His eyes stayed closed more than they should but you were so busy getting away from the situation you didn't care.
"Well, yeah. You've earned it." He said still trying to smile and it was much harder than usual. How did they get to this soap opera scene? Why did you feel like kissing him to only to get what you want?
Now you got what you wanted all along and left him wanting more. And he knew he'd never get more.

Chat Noir deflected the akumatized villain's attack as Ryuko flanked them.

He grinned as his girlfriend bonked the guy on the back of his head. She must really not appreciate having their date interrupted.

The large akumatized villain fell, setting off car alarms as the ground shook.

Ryuko leapt back to his side, sword at the ready. "Any word from Ladybug?"

Chat Noir leaned closer. "None yet, Dragon-ette."

Ryuko raised an eyebrow.

"No? I'll keep working on it."

The akumatized villain rose with a roar. His breath attack sending cars flying.

Chat Noir grabbed Ryuko and used his staff to propel them to the rooftops, out of harm's way. "Yuck! Do you think he needs a breath mint?"

"Perhaps he should consider brushing his teeth every now and then," Ryuko supplied.

"I HEARD THAT!" The supervillain grabbed a nearby car and threw it at them.

Chat Noir extended his staff, using the roof as a brace to knock the car back down. He casually leaned on his staff. "But how is he going to get them clean without water?"

Ryuko grinned. "Water Dragon!" She flowed down the building, towards the indestructible supervillain.

"Hey!" Chat Noir yelled. "You know that 'blockhead' isn't meant to be literal, right?"

"YOU WON'T ESCAPE ME YOU MANGY STRAY!" The villain roared while launching another vehicle at Chat Noir.

Evading easily Chat Noir continued taunting the brute to keep his eyes off Ryuko. "Escape? Please, have you ever tried to catch a cat that didn't want to be caught? Fair warning: We have claws!"

"MY SKIN IS INDESTRUCTIBLE!" The brute bragged, lifting some more non-aerodynamic projectiles.

"Yeah," Chat Noir agreed, doing a handstand. "Bet it makes you really heavy, huh?"

"WHAT?"

The asphalt beneath the villain's feet cracked suddenly before a torrent of water burst out of the ground. The supervillain fell through the collapsing street and into Ryuko's Water Dragon.

The underground tunnel was completed flooded. And the akumatized villain was indeed too heavy to swim.

Ryuko reformed from part of the water, a deadpan look on her face. "I need a shower."

"But you just took a bath!" Chat Noir mock protested, gesturing at the thrashing liquid. "Incidentally, you don't think a diamond statue can drown, do you?"

"AAHHHHHH!" Water exploded upward as the supervillain's breath attack pushed it away from him. He grabbed the edge of the hole to pull himself up. "I'LL GET YOU LIZARD!"

"Is it because we forgot the bubbles?" Chat Noir asked as they were soaked by the water falling back down. "Ugh, now I need a bath!"

"HERE! LET ME DRY YOU OFF!"

This time Ryuko grabbed him and carried him to the relative safety of an alley. The breath attack didn't have any more cars to throw at them but it was still plenty dangerous by itself.

"Any ideas?" Chat Noir inquired.

"He is indestructible, correct?"

"That's what he keeps shouting."

"Then perhaps we should take him at his word," Ryuko suggested.

"I don't follow," Chat Noir admitted.

"Lightning Dragon!"

"Ohhh! I get it n- Wait, no, Kagami!"

Ryuko bolted out of the alley and straight for the akumatized supervillain. The wind from his breath imperceptible to her lightning form. She struck him square in the head, knocking him into a wall which collapsed on impact.

Chat Noir landed beside her as she reformed. "I thought we agreed no Zeus-ing the supervillains?"

"No, Ladybug stated she didn't want me to use Lightning Dragon directly on the villains and I replied that I understood her concerns. I never actually agreed."

Chat Noir opened his mouth and lifted a finger before letting his hand fall. "Drat. I totally should've thought of that!"

They were interrupted by the villain's roaring. The diamond skinned being lifted both fists and slammed them down. The street cracked with a quake, knocking both heroes off their feet.

Chat Noir sat up with a groan. "Ooh, yeah, definitely gonna feel that in the morning!"

Ryuko pushed some rubble off herself. She glared at the supervillain. "Perhaps if I dropped him from a really great height!"

"But I if you use your Wind Dragon you'll have to recharge and superhero-ing is a team sport!" Chat Noir protested as he dusted himself off.

Ryuko casually slashed a peice of wall sailing their way. "Do you have an alternative?"

Oh, Chat Noir really didn't want to suggest this! "Well, we could, you know, since he's 'indestructible' and all, maybe, use my, um." He pointed at his ring.

Ryuko blinked for a moment to make sure she was understanding him correctly. "Won't that mean you'll have to recharge if it doesn't work?"

Chat Noir tackled her out of the way of more building. "Hey, every time we team up I'm always the one getting captured or almost captured! If anyone's getting the short end of the stick it'll probably be me!"

"I was captured!" Ryuko reminded him.

"Getting caught on purpose as part of the plan doesn't count!" Chat Noir pointed out.

Ryuko narrowed her eyes at him but nodded her consent. Chat Noir propelled himself into the air as she kept the villain's attention.

"You know, for a diamond your really not that impressive!"

"I'LL SHOW YOU IMPRESSIVE!"

The breath attack provided the perfect cover for sneaking up behind the big brute. As he stood still and his hearing was full of that howling wind.

"Cataclysm!" That got his attention. "Do me a favor?" Chat Noir asked as the akumatized victim turned around. "Don't die." And pressed his hand to the man's stomach.

There was a painful breaking sound as cracks appeared along the person's diamond form. The largest bisecting the villain almost perfectly in half. His form shattered as though made of glass.

"NOOOO!"

Revealing a rather small man amid the shards.

Chat Noir breathed a sigh of relief. "A golem type akuma. Thought so."

"MY BEAUTIFUL, FLAWLESS BODY! YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS YOU-"

Before he could finish the man and his diamond shards were engulfed in dark smoke. In his place was a boy a few years older than Chat Noir.

"I guess Ladybug found the akuma," Chat Noir observed as ladybugs swirled around them.

"Was all that really necessary?" Ladybug asked.

"You were tardy. We had to contain an akuma that had already knocked down buildings," Ryuko reminded her.

"I had to look all over a lycee to find his akumatized object! Including the-" She shuddered. "Boys' locker room!"

Chat Noir couldn't help a chuckle from escaping his lips.

Ladybug sent an accusing glare at him.

"Hey, at least everything turned out alright!" Chat Noir pointed out.

"Yes, we did manage to prevent more widespread damage," Ryuko agreed.

Ladybug conceded the point with a nod. "Why was he upset enough to be akumatized anyway?"

At this Chat Noir coughed and rubbed the back of his neck.

"He was under the impression that in order to woo his crush he would have to be 'flawless'," Ryuko explained. "Chat Noir told him that if she was as incredible as he described then she wouldn't be impressed by such superficiality."

"That was really good of you Chat."

"Thanks, I try!" He smiled appreciatively as his ring began to beep frantically. "That's my cue! Later, ladies!"

"Does he seem odd to you?" Ladybug asked as they dropped into an alley.

"He is always odd," Kagami replied as she de-transformed. "It's what makes him an interesting companion."

"Hey, Kagami?"

"Yes, Adrien?"

"What made you notice me?" Adrien turned to look at his girlfriend as she paused in her stride.

"What brought this on?" Kagami wondered.

Adrien shrugged and looked down.

"... You were an honorable opponent," Kagami stated simply and resumed walking.

Adrien skipped to catch up. "It wasn't my fencing skills?"

"No, those are just a bonus," she replied. "... What made you notice me?"

Adrien gazed upward as he thought about it. "Your honesty. Or maybe your drive. I don't think it was one thing for me. Every day I learned something new about you and then, suddenly, I love you and I have no idea how." He smiled.

Kagami walked a bit ahead of him to hide her blush. A shy smile making itself known on her lips. "I love you, too"

@starseedjenny you have observed my tags and for this you get an infodump
So Dylan (my husband) took levels in carpentry. He's no master carpenter but he can make furniture. His absolute favorite thing to do is to get gnarly tree roots or branches and carve them into odd length walking sticks and then sell them at the local wood shop. It's easier to use a stick instead of a cane (my back hurts a LOT from using my cane but never with a stick) and different people are different heights. Plus, something people don't think about is there are incredibly short people or even children. So why not have something beautiful and sturdy?
What he does is he carefully exposes what it is about the piece of wood that is unique. Are the different bark layers different colors? He'll strip the bark carefully to have a gradient flowing up the stick until the heart of the wood, its true color as it were, is exposed. Did it have a lot of branches? Find a way to show off the cool knots. Basically, he works with what he has to let the thing speak for itself. Less actual carving like swirls or whatever and more revealing what it is that makes that stick special. Takes less technical carving skill but a good eye for natural beauty. My uncle carved my grandmother her cane before he passed and while it's a beautiful piece, it is definitely carved if that makes sense
Anyway, as you know I love arting and crafting and making pretty things with my hands. Because of church, I know how to embroider, quilt, scrapbook, make pretty much anything you could ever want from cloth from actual clothes to scripture holders, and all the usual home stuff afab people get taught in YWs. I know how to knit (with a loom), make paper art, draw traditionally, paint traditionally (and know how to stretch my own canvas), create beautiful digital art, create rough architecture blueprints that are less rough with minecraft now, stain wood, cook, make rugs, and basically if there is a craft out there I don't know, I learn very quickly as I'm great with my hands and my hand-eye coordination is fantastic. Thank you 15 years of piano lessons
Dylan, knowing this, encouraged me to take up wood burning. Painting is difficult as I don't have an easel and unless I find a comfy recliner or wheelchair stat, I can't feasibly paint anytime soon. Due to disability (and lack of materials) there are a great number of hobbies I can no longer engage in as there I'd nothing but pain and frustration. I was a little intimidated, I'll admit, because I had no idea what a wood burning tool looked like and how would I work it anyway? From my time around big saws and other wood working machinery, I wondered if it would be something unwieldy and dangerous
Plus, let's be honest. I have a very hard time justifying spending money on myself if it's more than $5 at a time
He'd been goading me into it since November. He'd basically finished up my stick except for staining and he knew I'd want to burn it. But I hemmed and hawed. Finally, we had a pretty decent paycheck with loads of money leftover and he talked me into it. Even got that nice flat piece to get me started before taking the tips to my stick
It has been a genuine blast and a complete delight. It's like a very hot, very fat pencil and he saw right away I was going to need gloves or I'd burn myself and have loads of scars all over my fingers and hands. I'm glad he did because it hasn't been a day and already my gloves have marks on them. He got real expensive deerskin so they'd be able to move with my fingers and give me more mobility than anything else. They were expensive too and wouldn't hear any complaints I had about money. He wasn't going to have me melting my flesh or unable to do delicate work like I like
What I've been doing is outlining the thin layers of bark he left. He noticed that while the outermost layers were ugly, the innermost were interesting. You can see the grain in a way you can't with the lighter wood and you have a cool looking shade that's a nice contrast to that lighter heart. I've been going over them with the round tip (really good for drawing and writing as it's super smooth) and doing those hair thin lines with the point tip. It feels very similar to drawing a fantasy map all over my stick
I'm about 1/3 of the way up my stick though definitely not 1/3 of the way finished. I lose hours at a time bent over and carefully burning. I found out I can take the tips off hot and put them in a ceramic dish to minimize cool off and maximize time spent working. Which is critical for me as I can't spend more than about three hours tops bent over burning
It's so fun because it's like line art but it's on a piece of wood so it feels like I'm doing something new. It's very methodical and cathartic and I lose so much time focusing on doing this. It keeps me calm and downright happy! Which is EXCELLENT because it means I'm combatting seasonal depression in a very big way. I've already agreed to do this with all of his pieces to enhance what he's already carved. Eventually I'll probably Do Things like Actual Wood Art but for now I'm happy with this
We already have some projects planned too by the way!!! He loves making furniture and he can build better stuff for cheaper than buying it from a furniture store. So he's going to build a lift top coffee table and a dresser for sure that I'll burn. The first piece I want us to do, I'll burn the wood BEFORE he cuts it and see how that turns out. It'll be a little box (probably to hold bunny stuff) but I want to see if that does something unique or if it just is bad. If it's not something we like, hey I didn't waste weeks or months on something huge that ended up looking bad
We're probably going to make all the tables and dressers that go in our home. Maybe an entertainment center. I know we'll make my sister stuff just on the condition she pays for materials and getting it into her place. We'll probably make stuff for people who want it and I KNOW he's willing to take commissions. Closest family (parents, my sister, etc) will only have to pay for materials/shipping. Friends and other family will probably pay that and a little extra because friends and family discount. Everyone else is gonna have to pay retail value on top of materials and shipping because they'd get a unique piece you can't find anywhere else and it'd be worth it y'know?
But that's like way off sometime eventually probably
For now, I LOVE this new hobby. I can't wait to see what my stick is going to look like finished! I'm going to burn "support" on the bottom in kanji before the no slip grip goes on. Not really for any particular reason so much as like. Sentimental? I guess? Kind of like I'm burning a prayer for it to be sturdy and useful and good into it. I tried carving my wife's kanji on it (the first kanji of his middle name means dragon) but it didn't work out well so I'm gonna burn it onto the top and that'll be its name. Again, sentiment. There is also power in naming things and like. Just in case?
It has been such a very long time since I've been able to make something with my hands that I had the materials for and I'm just absolutely pink over it. I really super want people to see this stick and want some useful beauty for themselves that I can give. I love giving and making and seeing people smile over stuff I've made. It's been such a long time since something I've done has made someone smile and I just really want to bring that back y'know?
Anyway thank you for letting me gush. I just super love this and like yeah it's the butchest hobby like ever (according to Phoebe who has the most femme hobby ever of macrame) but it really fits me. It sparks joy in a way I haven't felt in a very very long time and I can't wait to see all the things I can do
