One Up (Homelander x Reader)

A scene that has been rattling in my brain that I needed to get out. [Ao3 link]

Homelander catches you calling him your boyfriend | Homelander x reader, gender neutral reader. No warnings beyond Homelander being Homelander and language.

"Well- Homelander and I are dating." You snap out, not even knowing why you said it in the first place. All you know is that you wanted to one-up that stick-up-his-ass HR brat bragging about banging a D-list supe.

"We're going to go-", You pause because the amusingly shocked faces within the cluster of your co-workers morph into various levels of fear and unease. You sense him before he speaks; prey tensing up as a predator draws close.

"Well- Homelander and I are dating." You snap out, not even knowing why you said it in the first place. All you know is that you wanted to one-up that stick-up-his-ass HR brat bragging about banging a D-list supe.

"We're going to go-", You pause because the amusingly shocked faces within the cluster of your co-workers morph into various levels of fear and unease. You sense him before he speaks; prey tensing up as a predator draws close.

"Hey sweetheart," He purrs the words close to your ear as Homelander leans in from behind you. "What are ya gossiping about?" He heard you and your false claim. Of course, he fucking heard you.

"I- Oh." Instantly, color blooms over your face as you turn your head enough to glance at him. He's painfully close, the heat of Homelander palpable against your cheek. Turn your head a little more and you could kiss him.

You'd never dare. Your words have been damning enough.

"N-nothing, babe." You stammer out, tugging a smile into place as your heart jackhammers within your chest.

Homelander settles a hand on the back of your neck with a soft creak sounding from the leather his gloves are made out of. The action is possessive; which sends a thrill straight down your spine. The sort of thrill one gets when the roller coaster harness feels a little too loose to be safe.

One finger slides up and circles the skin of your neck briefly as your breath catches in the back of your throat.

You snap your gaze forward back to your co-workers who hang about in stunned silence. With Homelander backing you up, the skepticism is bleeding away before your eyes.

Nancy from IT breaks the silence, "I didn't realize you two were a couple!" She presses on, voice cheerful. "I can't wait to hear how that happened."

"It's a funny story," Homelander interjects, voice smooth and dripping with his camera-ready charm. The sort that hides his fangs. "Maybe we'll share it sometime."

Homelander's hold tightens, fingers digging in with a grip that could pop your head right off your shoulders. The threat is clear. Comply or else. The laugh Homelander releases is in stark contrast, jovial and warm with a flash of those white white teeth at your co-workers.

Your co-workers laugh along automatically because everyone in the office knows to appease this erratic supe, or else they end up another mistake for Vought to sweep under the rug.

"Alright," Homelander clips out as he abruptly drops his hold from your neck.

"Don't forget our plans for tonight, babe." With a wink in your direction and another fanged smile at your coworkers, Homelander sweeps away.

This is a general reference of how they looks-

But for the lore: Right now I'm inspired to write, so expect a LOT of text, some things could be misspelled since I use Google Translate to write-

Basically it is a subtype of Worker Drone that works Underground at high temperatures where humans and normal worker drones may not be able to withstand that much heat.

They have shiny parts that allow them to light the way, such as their horns and tails. These parts appear to be made of lava, but it is another equally hot material that in turn helps them create mining tools.

This information is new and I did not explain it before: instead of having normal WD feet, they have paws, this in a way helps to feel the vibrations of the ground, as well as feeling that someone is nearby or that the cave where they are possibly about to collapse.

The hotter it is, the more efficient they are, however you should not let them consume each other or things will happen-

BUT Now that the planet froze What is MB's role? Survive

Due to the explosion caused by humans, the artificial heat that the MB colony maintained began to run out and they had no idea how to fix what gave them life, where could they get more heat? They need to consume that to live… They are made of heat, aren't they? They attacked each other until little by little there was no one left.

MB had to grow up during these conflicts and fights over the heat, he had never known what was above them even though some left the colony and did not return (they did not return since the Dissasembly drone killed them, curiously the DD did not come down to the colony since entering the caves was dangerous if you didn't know where to go, so the DDs who entered also died of overheating from not eating)

Due to certain decisions, 4 UWD (Underground Worker Drone) killed the few that remained of the colony, there was no more heat, there was nothing more to consume, MB fled the colony before they killed them, which meant that he had to go up to the surface, it took them a while to get there due to the different caves, MB met 2 other UWDs but no good things happened, when MB finally reached the surface it was not as they imagined it, it was even more spacious, and a great light covered everything, MB had seen the sun for the first time, something they had only heard from stories from other older UWDs, it didn't provide him with as much heat because of the cold snow but it was better than being down and dying.

While MB walked through this spacious place they couldn't help but see parts of other UWDs on the ground, as if something or someone had torn them apart. This terrified them, believing that the surface would be just as brutal as underground, but still decided to investigate, finding traces who were guiding to a camp seeing bodies of… Worker drones???, it was the first time MB had seen the body of a Worker drone, MB had only heard about them again because of what they told them, with the hope that they could help him to look for a warm area, MB was looking for them in that camp, but only saw abandonment and destruction, until saw the tracks left by the tires of a certain machine, a type of transport was what MB thought of, so they followed these tracks, it was a long road and the sun was beginning to set and their internal heat was not going to help for a long time, at one point and near a certain place MB ended up getting cold and collapsing because of it.

They found MB's body, they didn't know what type of Drone it was due to its appearance, but its visor showed the image "Low Temp", so they looked for something that could provide heat and a heater could help with that, for now.

Andddd this is a mexican drone- If MB were on the show, would speak completely in Spanish just like Doll speaks Russian.

SOOO this is what I have for now of MB Lore XD

The inspiration for some of the UWD lore was the Laica crystal caves located in a part of my country. sooo probably I will draw something about it later

I later wanted to convert it into a Worker Drone and ended up creating a whole subtype of WD and the lore that I wrote previously.

Kidnapped Buggy not knowing why Shanks is so nice to him and feeling simultaneously on edge about it while also suddenly having to deal with feeling the warmth and love of someone caring about him again and it messing with his feelings. He doesn’t remember this man. He doesn’t know this man. He can gather that this used to be the other boy he was on a ship with a long time ago, but it never really connects. There are just single glimpses. Of a big man with a mustache. Swimming with someone in the ocean. The bitter taste of a devils fruit. Him tackling someone and them fighting on the wooden floor till someone separates them. Dumb arguments. Playing cards and getting angry because he got cheated. Someone next to him at night. Tangled limbs and the scent of old rotting wood. The lullaby of the wood of a ship groaning and the waves crashing against it. It’s too much.

One day he gets a vision again and he decides to act on it. Back then he really wanted to kiss someone. He decides this time he’s going to do it. There are two thoughts in his head about this: He’s just gonna do it because he wants to and it’s been so long since he could even dream of getting something he wants, and that maybe, just maybe it will make the redheaded man mad. Make him scream and shout at him and it will feel oddly safe once more, because screaming and shouting are what he’s gotten used to in the past few years. And maybe he will kill him. And then his suffering could at least finally end.

Of course none of these things happen. It’s a short and it’s an awkward kiss and Shanks didn’t expect it , so he has no time to react properly y, just stares at Buggy mouth agape and confused. Buggy doesn’t react to it, but he also doesn’t pull away when Shanks pulls him into a loose hug. Always loose. Never tight. Buggy appreciates it. He can always pull away if he wants to. But for now? This is nice. It’s something he wants. And it’s been so long since he could even dream of getting what he wants.

This made me so soft, oh, I'm rendered helpless. You've disarmed my angst-loving heart wtf ;-;

Buggy's memories come slow and painful. The glimpses of the memories he gets aren't the painful bit. Its the fact that he had forgotten so much joy and now that his ability to be happy had been atrophied, he yearned for it again. And of course, the closest he got was when he was with the red-haired man. The kiss was truly a win-win, no matter the outcome. But if it was fine... if their lips touched and it was as big a deal as he's heard the other red-haired pirates say it was... then maybe he could feel normal again. He could feel,,, something.

And then he did. And he got to feel the soft touches of an arm on his back. A hug. Rather than the stain of its knuckles on his body. And he was right - he did feel. He felt... relief. He felt like he was where he was supposed to... he felt safe.
