Chapter 7 of 10

His Own Element

And yes this one is sticking to 10 chapters. I've got a set outline and it's stayed set for most of a year at this point. I've even got various anchoring scenes fully written and sitting there to pin everything down. Now I'm just filling out the spaces between those anchor scenes and posting the story.

And you can kind of tell what the anchoring scene was in this chapter. It's more vivid and polished than the rest. But meh it's a helluva mental image. Unfortunately the demonic seduction didn't fit anymore, Vengeance and Pride aren't talking to each other at the moment, but I might be able to use it elsewhere in another story. I mean, this worldstate just hit 377k words making it the longest damn series I have ever written in my life and it is nowhere near done. I got space to fit things.

Vengeance takes a dust bath in the flames of the darkspawn lair. That's it, that's most of this chapter. Soon, descending the lift to the Uncharted Abyss. And because I am that asshole, this time the lift is one-way.

Honestly there’s so many cool things you could explore about TOH.  Like how Palismen and Abominations are created by witches with the sole purpose to serve them and are seemingly never allowed existence beyond that. Or how the beast coven is trying to control whole populations of beings (how are rights and sentience decided in TOH) and  how rather “cruel foods” such as fairy pie exist and are common. And basically everything involving elves and Basilisks and Grimwalkers. Plus the effect glyph magic has on the environment and how the Isle denizens seem to be zealously religious yet happily live in their supposed creator’s remains  ( like is that part of their faith or what? Are certain parts of the Titan roped off for historical purposes?) And the potential of artificial magic, especially for powerless witches and how the healing covens deal with mental health and-
