Meet the Followers Part 1

Starting off with the first batch of followers in the Beyond the Shores au of mine!

Info below for each character

Collie: Collie is the yellow cat in this AU of mine and works on the farm for the cult. Collie has quite a plentiful amount of knowledge about anything vegetation and agriculture. He is quite a hard worker and enjoys the company of Leshy whenever he decides to come out of the ground after scaring his fill of the other followers. He originates from Darkwood and was rescued by "Lambert" before getting sacrificed for the bishop worshipped there, he doesn't know who was the bishop there however.

Samara: Samara, also known as Sam, is a Hyena-Tiger hybrid and was cast out from their home in Anura due to their appearance and was labelled as a freak of nature. Samara works mainly as a missionary and always comes back with the most amount of resources out of all other missionaries in the cult. She is an odd follower as she isn't much of a socialite nor does she wish to take part in any rituals that are occurring. She never worships either, and if "Lambert" tries to read her mind, they end up with blank results.

Victoria: Victoria is a hedgehog and is the best chef you can ever enjoy food from. She loves to cook but also loves to gossip about any drama or tea that is spreading around the cult. She is quite the strict and harsh woman in the kitchen and hates whenever anyone wastes food, so you better have an empty bowl before you can go back to work and worship The Lamb. She is also married to the cult's Bull, Benjamin. Victoria comes from Anchordeep and was rescued after her home was ravaged by heretics of the Bishop Kallamar.

Benjamin: Benjamin is the biggest follower out of all the mortal members of the cult. He works in the Lumberyard and is the most intimidating follower in the cult. Although he may be quiet and big, he really has a soft and cuddly heart when he opens up to any of his inner circle of friends. He always looks forward to when he can eat as to always enjoy his wife Victoria's cooking. When he lived back in Darkwood, he was the weakest of the bulls in the village and was captured by heretics because of it. Only to get taken in by The Lamb.

Franky: Franky is an albino rabbit and works in the refinery. They are a quick and hyperactive worker in the cult and one of if not the most colourful! They love to play around with their outfit and wearing the rainbow all the time. He always wanted to be more colourful like the other followers, so they started to apply colourful powders onto himself to use the fur he had as a blank canvas. They are quite the chatterbox and love to pick up any conversation with anyone, though they stay from specific followers either being scared or intimidated by them. He was rescued from Silk Cradle after almost being sacrificed by heretics of the Bishop Shamura.

Birthdays are not widely known to the God of World Destruction. In fact, it was the opposite for them, as only a few cared to remember their birthday.

For them, the occasion is something they paid no heed to. What use is there for a celebration when they have work to do in the Void of Creation? Only their following bothered to remember it, and the majority either feared or hated destruction for what it's worth. It would only be counter-intuitive to even say that it should be celebrated.

But every time they spoke about that sentiment to others, they were met with either denial or divergence.

"Why do you not see your birthday as a worthy occasion?" the King of Hell asked them once, putting down his violin to face the other more clearly. "You seem to dislike it when it comes. You even stopped Azrael from informing others when it was clear he had good intentions."

The God seem to hesitate, their frown deepening at his comment.

"Many others in my past always forget it's my day of birth, Lucifer," they answered, reluctant to even spare him a glance. "It's almost like a normal day to them— a day where nothing is celebrated. It hurts when I have to make it obvious to them by mentioning its a special occasion for me, when they have never failed to remember others and their birthdays."

Lucifer frowned. He always hated it when Navina had compared themselves to others, especially on the topic of themself.

"That's because they're ignorant," he said, his hair moving to pat their head as gently as he could, for his arms ceased to work as it used to. "And even if they never fail to do that for others, why would they do it now? I say that they were doing it to their friends, not for everyone."

"Hah, I wish," they muttered with a frown. "They always celebrated others, but... It's like they forgot about me."

Forgetting... Such a painful curse that many would do.

"Lucifer, I know you and everyone remembered it and try to make it feel special, but... Before then, everyone always forgets its my birthday. Not even the people I call 'friends' in the flesh bothered, except for those who I've met from other countries that knew me better than those I'm with."

The albino can only look down at their hands, soiled from the constant burning of the worlds and the ashes of the lives lost. They felt tears built up from their eyes, the sorrow getting to them more and more.

It hurts to remember. They wish they simply forgot, so that they wouldn't feel the pain they do now.

"What use is celebrating a God they despised? What use is there to even acknowledge that God when all they have is blood on their hands?"

The King paused, but simply sighed.

"Your followers celebrate you because they know of your valiant efforts, Navina. Even if others have forgotten that occasion, they are but a dime of dozen that do."

His hair moved to grab the violin again, the other tendrils grabbing letters of people wishing them the same thing. Handing the papers to them, the God sniffed and opened each of them, their eyes widening at the sight.

So many of them wished them a birthday today— some from different worlds, even. Their messages were all personalized, with some (like Rosehearts) inviting them to his unbirthday party to celebrate theirs, while others (with the likes of Albedo) mentioning that he had an experiment for them to try with him.

There were even others, like Esther, Mei, Brynn, Jessamine, Carmine, Tae, Sam, Yami, Fifi... Their own companions wishing them the same thing. Those that still remembered them, and those that clearly still stayed even when they weren't human.

"See?" the violinist hummed in satisfaction, his wide grin returning once more. "Maybe the people you're with have forgotten about the occasion today, but there's far more that remember it. All you need to do is change your perspective."

The God was speechless. It was difficult to even say such a word with so many wishing them the same thing. But after a while, they managed to crack a smile.

Even if the tears fell, it was not out of sorrow, but of joy.

It was nice to be remembered for once, even if it's only for today.

AAAAAA HI Y'ALL HAIUHFSRUI sorry for the sad drabble, I needed the hurt/comfort because I've experienced people that seem to forgor my birthday, but I also wanted to give light to people that said their birthday wishes to me.

Special thanks for the people I mentioned for simply existing (and for greeting me) <3 y'all may not have gifts, or you guys are busy to make some, but being friends with y'all had been the best gift I ever want.

I HAD AN IDEA AND NOW I AM EXERCISING THAT IDEA

ASSIGNING EACH LISTENER AN EXOTIC PET AND ALSO NAMING THAT PET

I think this may have turned into an oc thing💀

Lasko's listener: I just established the other day that they own an axolotl named Cella (that Freelancer is hellbent on calling "Celery" and Huxley loves her ((the axolotl))sm) and this is canon to me now. They also have a Chinese water dragon named Lotus bc I said so :)

Freelancer: do rats count as an exotic pet?? (Google says they do-) They named her Gribby. This is also canon to me.

Angel: they 100% have a sugar glider named Goblin (and David is terrified of him.) They want a fennec fox and they will get a fennec fox and they will name her Deedee. Short for Speed Demon.

Baabe: snake. They own a snake and they named her Rory and Asher loves her to death.

Sweetheart: chameleon. His name is Karma and he and Aggro are besties to the max.

Darlin': a fucking raccoon. Or a badger. Either one named Cujo.

Lovely: they own a bat named Valentina.

Bright Eyes: also owns a rat, but they didn't him Remi. They couldn't remember the rat's actual name so instead they ended up naming him fuckin Ratatouille💀

Starlight: albino ferret albino ferret albino ferret and she's named Carina :)

Seer Obscura: literally owns a barn owl named Tiresias.

Cutie: they have a couple mice they named Allen and Atlas.

Honey: iguana named Geechee, but he also responds to the name Bee for some odd, unknown reason (*cough* Guy-)

Warden: snake. Burmese python. I feel like they would want to name her, but wouldnt know what to name her, so they'd settle for Mesii (to base it slightly off "burmese")

Mentor/Baby: four ferrets. Four ferrets that are specifically named Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde.

Smartass: they have a bearded dragon named Ivy and she vibes with Aaron.

Sunshine: they have chinchilla siblings named Nimbus and Nebula :3

Anton's listener: they have 2 tree frogs named Mika and Aivo, and a chinchilla named Seria (I like my chinchillas, okay?? I've always wanted one-)

James' listener: hedgehog named Morose and he's the cutest little baby James has ever laid his eyes on.

Asset: they found a mouse in the vents one time and they've kept it ever since. They named her Thias. They like to show Thias to Anton. Anton likes to see Thias(Thias reminds him of Seria). They have also introduced Thias to Brian. Brian also likes Thias. Most of the people working with/on Asset know Thias.

Precious: they aren't allowed to own a pet. Because owning a pet means giving their love and affection and attention to someone other than Regulus.

Damien: ...Freelancer, I think you have rats.

FL: huh?? Oh, no, that's just Gribby.

Damien: *petting Gribby* who names a pet "Gribby"?

FL: I do. Oh- don't touch her left back leg.

Damien: why? Is she hurt?

FL: I got her checked out first few times it happened, but they said nothin' was wrong.

Damien: then why..?

FL: she just starts screaming.

Damien: what.

Goblin, who escaped his habitat: *zooms up the fridge and soars straight towards David, landing on his face and getting comfy on his head*

Angel: Goblin, where'd you go!? Oh! Aww! He loves you!

David: *frozen with fear*

Darlin': hm?

Sam: why's there a raccoon/badger on your kitchen counter?

Darlin': that's Cujo.

Sam: ...Cujo was-

Darlin': "mEhMeHmEhMeH cUjO wAs a dOg tHoUgH" let me name my trash panda/rage skunk whatever tf I want.

Vincent: you got a pet bat?

Lovely: yeah! I wanted to name her Vincent as well, but then I thought you might get confused, so I went with Valentina instead! ^-^

Vincent: *teary-eyed* you wanted to name her after me??

Vincent: ...wait- you thought I'd get confused-

Vincent: did you buy a rat?

Bright: I found it in the trash can and he's mine now.

Vincent: o..kay. Does he have a name?

Bright: um, duh. Anyone who owns a rat and doesn't name it Ratatouille is committing an actual crime against humanity.

Guy, in chat: I haven't the slightest clue what you could possibly be talking about.

Baby: I found these poor little guys in a box thrown in a trash can.

Ollie: OHMYGOD CAN WE KEEP THEM? HAVE YOU NAMED THEM SO WE CAN KEEP THEM??

Baby: yes, we're keeping them and no, I haven't named them yet.

Ollie: ..suggestion?

Baby: I suppose.

Ollie, immediately: Inky Blinky Pinky and Clyde!

Baby: *sigh* goddamnit, those are gold.

Ollie: Inky Blinky Pinky and Clyde?

Baby: *nods* Inky Blinky Pinky and Clyde.

Ollie: YES!

Asset: I found someone!

Marcus: you... found someone..?

Asset: *opens their hands to show a petite lil mousey* I've decided to name her.

Marcus: oh- y-yeah? And.. what did you...name her..?

Asset: Thias!

in all honesty, i’ve come to appreciate jon even more with each post you make. it’s really incredible to see a different outlook on jon rather than what ever dudebros …celebrate ig? anyway, what is the scene / book that made you like jon?

As a dog person my favorite Jon scene would have to be this:

Jon knelt, scratched his ear, and showed him the pommel of the sword. “Look. It's you.” Ghost sniffed at his carved stone likeness and tried a lick. Jon smiled. - Jon, AGoT

Jon’s second AGoT chapter where he has the farewells with Bran, Robb and Arya is when I started liking him. Just his relationship with his siblings, the way he dealt with Catelyn, making Arya happy. ACoK used to be my favorite book with Jon. I love his arc with the Freefolk and GRRM excels as a writer with his descriptions of the lands beyond the Wall. More recently, ADwD is slowly replacing ACoK because the show made such a shambles of Jon’s character and ADwD best showcases Jon Snow as a leader.

Character trait I find most attractive about Jon is his intelligence and dry sense of humor. Him treating women as his equals in patriarchal Westeros is sexy. His supporting cast also play a large role in making his story at the Wall fun and interesting, considering it’s disconnect with the Iron Throne/WOT5K political plot. Sam, Pyp, Grenn, Edd, Mormont’s Raven, Tormund, Mance, Ygritte and all the other colorful characters that make the story at the Wall and beyond the Wall.

There’s of course the ‘cool’ factor. His nicknames are badass - Lord Snow, Black Bastard, Lord Crow. He’s got a huge albino direwolf at his side, a raven on his shoulder. A Valyrian steel sword on his back. He’s a Warg. He’s the person Arya loves most and we are all waiting for them to meet and for him to muss her hair. There’s the parallel arc of leadership with Daenerys, being of similar age and mindset, the last two Targaryens. I can’t wait for Dany to know that she has family.

So yeah, looking forward to resurrected zombie Jon! He’s going to be such a mess :D

LOTR x albino elfling reader

Age:9 reader Chan is an albino elfling a rare breed of elf in middle earth. She ends up meeting the hobbits after they took the "Shortcut." They are surprised to see a child but don't know her race (she is wearing a cloak with the hood up.) she is also badly injured from running away from orcs after she saw her parents get killed.

No one's POV:

You and your parents are taking a nice Elk ride near where a place called the Shire is at. You rode with your mother on her elk cow named Rain in front of her while your father rode his elk bull named Lightning walking in between them is your own elk you named Cream the calf of your parents elks. It was a calm and peaceful ride until the screech of orcs was heard "What are orcs doing near the Shire?" Your mother asked holding you closely in a tight protective embrace, Rain and Lightning got in front of cream while your father took out his sword with his arm in front of you and your mother in a protective manner "Nana I'm scared." You whimpered to your mother fear in your Ruby red eyes as she gave you a loving look in her own Ruby red eyes. Your father can see an Orc charging in on his warg with his blade out your mother shot the Orc in the forehead making him drop dead but the Warg was still charging and howling making both your parents terrified that more are coming. Your father fearfully picks you up from Rain as your mother slides off her to join "Y/N take Cream, my sword and Nana's bow and arrows run as far as you can. Cream is old enough and big enough to carry you away from here." He said giving you a kiss on the head "We both love you little gem." Your mother said as she gave you her necklace and kissed your head.

You tearfully got on Cream and she galloped as fast as her legs can carry her and you but she is strong. Fearfully you looked back to see your parents being attacked by orcs with their only weapons being daggers tears swam down your porcelain face as you gripped the necklace tightly. As Cream galloped some Orcs followed behind you and shoot arrows at you as you galloped through trees and bushes luckily they were normal arrows that only gave you a few cuts and scars but the branches of trees gave you a few scratches and bruises big and small but you didn't care and shoot back with your mothers big bow killing them.

Days later:

You and Cream stoped at a cliff with a cornfield that leaves out of the Shire. You looked around to see if there was a safe path for you to walk on but your search was cut short when you heard barking and yelling soon you see four Hobbits running your way three of them stopped in front of you and Cream but the last one bumped into them sending you, Cream and them tumbling down the cliff. Luckily no one was badly hurt but your cuts were still stinging "Are you four alright?" You asked making the hobbits look up in surprise.

The four hobbits looked to the girl shorter then them wearing a red tunic with burgundy leggings, black boots, a black cloak and a lovely silver pendant with a ruby on it and her voice sounded like music to their ears next to her is a cream colored elk calve with a bridal and saddle on it. Frodo snapping out of his gaze gave the child an answer "We are. How about you little one?" He asked seeing the injuries on her smaller body "I'm alright oh my name is Y/N. Y/N L/N and this is Cream." The girl introduced herself and the calve "Ohh I'm Frodo Baggins." The hobbit Frodo introduced himself this is my Friend and gardener." Frodo said gesturing to honey blond hobbit "Samwise Gamgee call me Sam." Sam said "And my two younger cousins." Frodo said gesturing to Merry and Pippin "Merridoc Brandybuck call me Merry." Merry said "And Peregrin Took call me Pippin." Pippin said.

After the introduction you and Frodo are looking at the dark road of the forest until you see a very dark shadow "Get of the road." Frodo said grabbing your hand while the other three hobbits and Cream followed you under a fallen tree as your sitting the sound of hooves can be heard soon sniffing from your hiding place. Cream laid her head on your lap felling your terror. After a few more seconds the figure finally left on horse back.

Your POV:

I followed the hobbits while riding Cream. We ran into these men in black cloaks, master Sam said they are called black riders. We managed to out run them until we ran to the front gates of Bree in the rain, a man answered the gate. He asked what our business was and Frodo answered after that he pointed us to an inn called the prancing pony. We made it to the inn, we put Cream in the stables of the inn and then entered wet and cold.

No one's POV:

you and the hobbits go to the man at the desk who was thrilled to have more costumers he offered hobbit sized beds but when he asked for Frodo's name he said "Underhill." You being young and curious looked around seeing the race of men up close but staying close to the hobbits. As your looking you see a man in a cloak staring at you and the hobbits but you didn't pay it no mind until you heard Sam "What do we do now Mister Frodo?" He asked Frodo in a whispered.

Your all sitting at a table eating "He'll be here Sam." Frodo told Sam who looked anxiously around and it didn't help that Pippin had gotten up to get a pint even though he already had one "That Fellow has done nothing but stared at us since we've arrived." Sam said pointing at the man you saw earlier. Everything happened in a blur you and Merry continued eating, Sam talked to Frodo who looked like he was in a trance and Pippin was talking to men but spilled that he knew a Baggins, Frodo shot up to grab him but he fell, a gold ring falls on his finger and then he just disappeared. You being a young elfling wanted to run but couldn't for your legs went numb ohh what a day you were having.

You, Merry, Sam and Pippin are all standing in front of the man Strider after he took Frodo all of you armed well they had objects from the inn while you had your father's sword "Unhand him longshanks." Sam yelled to Strider. You didn't quite get what the man was saying but you did understand that you and the hobbits were in danger and that you couldn't stay in Bree any longer and that you had to get out of Bree and head to Rivendell. Your eyes sparkled at the name you heard stories from your parents of the last homely elven home but you never saw it in person.

Later:

You were awaken to the sound of screeching along with the four hobbits "A... Are we going to die mister Strider?" You asked fearfully clutching the blanket in your scratched and bruised hands while looking at the ranger who is staring in awe at your ruby red eyes that held so much innocence and curiosity but also tears and trauma "Of course not little one." He said gently grasping your hands in his big ones giving you comfort "I promise nothing will get you as long as I'm around." When he said that you smiled and whipped your tears away causing your hood to fall revealing your milky white hair and pointy ears making Strider gasp "You are an elfling." He said tucking a strand of hair behind your ear making the hobbits go eye wide in awe "I have heard from Uncle Bilbo that elves are very protective of their young." Frodo said equally shocked "Where are your parents Peneth?" Strider asked "My Nana and Ada were killed by orcs when we were taking a stroll with our elks near the shire." You said making the hobbits and Strider shocked "You are all lucky to get out of the Shire on time." He said running his hand through your milky white hair in comfort.

In the morning:

You, the hobbits and Strider headed out of Bree first thing in the morning but not before getting Cream, a pony and stocking up on supplies for the trip to Rivendell "It's ok Girl he's nice." You told Cream who squeaked in curiosity at the ranger.

Strider and the hobbits walked on foot while you rode Cream with Strider holding the reigns. The walk was very entertaining with Pippin complaining which you didn't mind at all because you know a guard from home just like him "What is making you laugh Tithen pen?" Strider asked chuckling "Master Pippin is funny." You said pointing to the youngest hobbit who is complaining about food and stuff making Merry and Frodo laugh but Sam rolled his eyes in annoyance.

After crossing a bog with bugs Strider left you and the hobbits after giving them weapons while he patrolled the area.

You and Frodo fell asleep with you resting your head on Cream but the smell of fire woke you up along with Frodo "What are you doing?" He asked his friend and cousins. It turns out Hobbits can't go a day without their many meals a day "Put it out you fools." You said fearfully looking around as Frodo put the fire out with his feet but the damage was done as shrieking was heard making you fearfully clinch Frodo's shirt in fear as the hobbits formed a protective circle around you "Frodo I'm scared." You whimpered pulling out an arrow from your mothers quiver on your waist and drew the string ready to shoot.

Ringwraith's surrounded you and the hobbits.

By the Valar you hoped Strider was done by now.

You shot one of the wraths in the chest causing it to fall but you and the Hobbits were out numbered until Strider came and set one of them on fire but before you knew it everything was In slow motion.

You and Frodo each got stabed by a blade and you two could turn into a Nazgûl if not treated soon and to rub salt on the wound you were six days away from Rivendell, you don't remember what happened after but before you fell asleep Strider gave you and Frodo to a very pretty woman with Black hair and blue eyes and you can hear her soft gentle voice "Stay awake little one." You heard her say but you soon fell asleep from exhaustion.

You steered to the sound of soft talking and whispering followed by the sound of Strider's voice. Slowly fluttering your ruby red eyes open you see Strider talking to an elf with dark hair, when he saw that your awake Strider smiled at you "You're awake little one." He said walking over to you with the man smiling fondly at you. You yawned and rubbed your eyes allowing your hood that was still on to fall off making the adult elf gasp in shock. He walked over to you and gently grasped your tiny hands in his bigger ones "You are an albino elfling." He said in awe making Strider gasp in surprise "I thought you said they have long left Middle Earth Lord Elrond." Strider said to the older elf you now know as Elrond "It seems I have been proven wrong." He said smiling down at you gently making you smile back until you heard the door open "By my beard." You looked to see a man in grey entering the room with the four hobbits and another elf with Blond hair and blue eyes "See Gandalf we told you." Pippin said gesturing to you making the man you now know as Gandalf wack him on the head with his staff "I can see that Master Took." He said while the blond elf walks up to you with a smile on his face "Hello little one." He said "H... Hello." You stuttered out "I am Legolas Greenleaf. And you are?" He said "Y/N, Y/N L/N." You said smiling that you didn't stutter "Where is your family Y/N?" Lord Elrond asked "They were killed by orcs when we were riding our elks near the Shire." You said sadly from seeing your parents get massacred but you soon smiled "That's were I meet the hobbits." You said happily until a shrill scream was heard "My Lord the elk got in." An elf with brown hair said and right on cue a familiar cream colored Elk calf came into the room "Cream." You said happily to see your trusted stead galloping towards you and stopping at your bed "We couldn't keep her still." The brunette elf said "It's alright Lindir." Elrond said to the elf you now know as Lindir "Thank you for looking after Cream Mr Lindir." You said giving Lindir a big smile making him smile back.

You have been living in Rivendell after the fellowship set out to Mordor, Elrond loved you very dearly and started allowing you to call him Ada, Arwen became like a big sister to you and Elrond's twin sons Elladan and Elrohir became like big brothers to you and fell in love with you the moment they saw you.

After the Battle is won you meet Galadriel and Celeborn who instantly loved you when they saw you and became your new grandparents.

At Aragorn's coronation you are exited to see that Aragorn and Arwen are courting each other and you asked to be the flower girl at the wedding making everyone laugh.

Elrond, Galadriel and Celeborn stayed in Middle earth in order to watch you grow along with Frodo and Bilbo.

In the months you've been in Rivendell you settled into your new home but with time your mischief side came out and you began pranking your new big brothers "Y/N! Where are you?" Elrohir asked looking around for you in your room that you use to share with Arwen until she moved to live in Gondor with Aragorn. You held back a laugh as your hiding underneath the queen size bed. You crawled over to your big brother Ro's leg and grabbed it making him scream like a little girl causing your new father and other big brother Dan to burst into the room "Father! Brother there is something under the bed." Elrohir said lifting his leg with you still attached to it laughing "I got you good big brother Ro." You said swinging on his leg making him chuckle "You sure did little Gem." He said lifting you higher "Ada! Big brother Dan! Did you see?" You asked excitedly making them chuckle "We did little ruby." Elladan said lifting you up and tossing your smaller frame up "You scream like a girl Elrohir." a familiar voice said from the door way "Big brother Legolas." You said running over to him and hugging his waist making him smile, pick you up and spin you in his arms earning a laugh from you "I see you played a prank on Elrohir." He said putting you down "Yep. I scared him." You said happily making Elrohir roll his eyes "There is scared and then there is surprise." He said making your new father roll his eyes "Come along Y/N you have your sword training with Glorfindel this morning." He said "Ok Ada." You said grabbing your fathers sword and following the even older elf to the training field.

In second grade, the students at St. Catherine’s go on a field trip to the Detroit Zoo. It’s been a tradition for a long time. They pile onto the school bus, sing the world’s most annoying songs, and walk around in the halfway chilly Michigan weather. The trip is always in May, but everyone knows May is about as cold as March. Daniel’s mother isn’t chaperoning this trip – she can’t afford to take the day off work – but she makes sure he has everything he needs. Jacket, hat, scarf, gloves, just in case. She gives him everything but souvenir money, which Lucy’s mother sneaks into his backpack when he’s not looking. It takes him years to figure out it was her, and it takes him even longer to thank her for it. But today is not that day. Today, Daniel DeLuca is eight years old, and he wants to look at the animals.

When they come upon the aquatic exhibit, Carl Becker is a little too excited. It’s not surprising to anyone. Just annoying. For as long as any of them can remember, even before they were in school full time, Carl Becker has been a little too obsessed with sea creatures. Years later, he’ll attend the University of Miami to study marine biology, but they have no way of knowing that now. He’s just the weird kid who’s way too into sharks – the weird kid he and Sam make fun of at lunch, and Will always tells them to stop.

But of course, it’s the weird kid who says the right thing.

“I wanna see an orca!”

“Carl, slow down!” his mother, always a chaperone, calls after him. “You’re not going to see an orca in there! It’s not possible!”

Daniel’s not sure what comes over him. But he looks up at Mary Callaghan, Lucy’s mother and their chaperone for the day, and he asks.

“What’s an orca?”

Mary smiles a little.

“An orca is a big whale,” she says.

“Like Moby Dick,” Will says.

“No,” Lucy says hotly. “Moby Dick was an albino sperm whale. Do you listen when I talk?”

“I listen all the time!”

Sam’s behind them, giggling like a fool. Sadie’s giggling, too, but it seems like she doesn’t really understand why.

“Heh,” Sam says. “Sperm.”

Daniel doesn’t get that one, either, but judging by the slightly mortified look on Mary Callaghan’s face, he probably shouldn’t ask.

“Orcas are black and white,” Mary explains to Daniel. “Some people call them killer whales.”

Daniel gulps a little at that one.

“So why would Carl want to see one?” he asks. “Does he want the whale to kill us?”

Mary laughs.

“Oh, no,” she says. “I’m sure not.”

“Then you don’t know Carl,” Sadie says. “He’s kind of mean.”

“Well, maybe,” Mary says. “But that’s not what I meant. Killer whales aren’t actually killers. Scientists say they don’t pose any real danger to people.”

“So, why do they call them killer whales?” Daniel asks.

Mary smiles again. Her eyes are a little sparkly, and Daniel wonders what he has to do to get his eyes to sparkle like that, too.

“You tell me,” she says.

But Daniel doesn’t say anything. He’s too busy thinking about the answer. How could something so pretty and gentle be called a killer? Were people trying to be mean? Were people afraid because they didn’t know how else to feel? Were they trying to pull a trick on the others, whoever they were? Daniel doesn’t know. Worse than that, he doesn’t even know how to know.

He thinks he might want to see an orca, too.

Maybe they could talk.

What Pets I Think LOtR Characters Would Have

may or may not be a collab with @aromanticmara

Legolas: cat (a rag doll) - it’s stealthy but not the brightest

Gimli: dog (a huge one like a St. Bernard)

Eowyn: dog (borzoi) - a little odd looking from afar but could keep up with her, they low key look like Faramir

Arwen: cat (classic black cat)

Aragorn: horse (because of course he does)

Gandalf: has no pet but feeds strays from time to time

Boromir: no pets (has Merri and Pippin)

Frodo: a rabbit

Sam: co-parents the rabbit with Frodo but lives in constant fear of it eating his plants

Elrond: was against Arwen getting a cat but now it’s his bestie

Galadriel: a unicorn (deadass just a unicorn)

Thandruil: absolutely hates Legolas’ cat and won’t even pretend to like it

Faramir: his dad got him no pet so he had an imaginary dog

Pippin: raccoon (he took it in thinking it was a cat)

Merri: worms (like legit a worm farm) - he feeds them fungi and stuff to scavenge during all of the hobbit meals

When Nettle is young, she gets bit by a snake and is very very sick for several days. She wakes up with a newfound passion for toxicology. When shes a little older and her craft has advanced, she asks for a pet snake and sam refuses. Dream goes behind his back and gets her one anyway. Its non venomous but nettle loves it anyway

I always imagined a medium sized white snake, liek leucistic not albino

You've been probably asked this before, but I'd like to know: why lizard folk?

Could you elaborate on how you created them? Did you decide which features they share with humans and which they don't? Or was it more of discovery? Were there any concrete inspirations?

Happy late WBW, Sam! It's been a super busy couple of days, so I'm sorry I couldn't answer this on time! Also this is going to be a long one, sorry for that too!

Why Lizardfolk?

Why indeed?! When I started developing the world of AASOAF I took a lot of inspiration from Skyrim, Divinity Original Sin II, and D&D-style TTRPG worlds because I knew I wanted a big world where I could do whatever I wanted. However, when I was picking the different races/species I wanted to include, they originally didn't make the cut. It wasn't until I started writing that I added them in because I thought, why not? Why shouldn't I have Lizardfolk? So in they went! I should say I never counted on getting obsessed with them. That was a complete accident!

Could you elaborate on how you created them? Did you decide which features they share with humans and which they don't? Or was it more of discovery? Were there any concrete inspirations?

The short answer, I created my first problem child: Wilkes.

There was this whole concept of an organization similar to the Nine Pirate Lords of Pirates of the Caribbean in the original telling of AASOAF, and in an effort to make things simple, I thoughtlessly picked a few names and assigned them to characters with some kind of identifiable appearance. Wilkes was one of these characters and was mostly meant as a set piece, just like the others, for Fay to interact with. She was the only main character at the time, and the idea was she would have run-ins with these pirates to form part of an arc in her story. I wrote a few of them (all human up to that point), and they were great fun, but then I got around to Wilkes and I got STUCK.

Remember when I thought I was making things easy for myself? (She didn't) I offhandedly created him as an albino Lizardfolk and when I tried to write him, I quickly realized 2 things:

1. It wouldn't make ANY sense to write him the way I would with a human. I got so stunlocked when I realized that he probably wouldn't have ears LOL.

2. I didn't know how he related to other Lizardfolk because I knew next to nothing about how I wanted Lizardfolk to be or how they as a people connected with the world around them.

So as I started to develop his character, I also started asking myself a lot of questions that forced me to research beyond my initial inspirations. I started looking at nature and biology. I did TONS of research on socioeconomic and political systems, languages, ecosystems, and how all of these are represented in my initial inspirations for AASOAF's Lizardfolk (Argonians of Skyrim, Lizards of DOSII, and Lizardfolk and Dragonborn of TTRPGs).

Eventually, I arrived at Version 1, which was enough for me to continue writing and have a more 3D version of Wilkes. The dynamic he and Fay developed was SO cool to me despite him still being a bit of a prop that, eventually, the story centered around the two of them instead of just Fay. And as I wrote him more, I discovered new things about Lizardfolk, which eventually turned it into the lore behemoth that it is today. So by the time I started canon AASOAF with Mariel and Axtapor, the world of Lizardfolk and the race themselves were already quite built up and I ran with it!
