1) So this is a friends to lovers thing

It starts pretty basic, Oswald feeling outcasted by Mickey and his group-- on his own accord, they're all very nice and welcoming but it's very overwhelming and it's Mickey's friend group. Which draws him to the outskirts of the group-- one of those people being Pete.

They're good at bantering, playing off each other. Oswald isn't scared of him so isn't afraid to talk back. Pete likes the spunk. I also like to imagine when they first meet Pete doesn't know that Oswald is Mickey's brother. I REALLY like the idea that he finds out from Goofy on accident.

That being said, friendship and bonding leads to subtle feelings. They likely don't notice it at first as it is just a really close friendship. Ultimately I think Oswald realizes his feelings first. And it's instant guilt. He's already felt a little bad getting along with Mickey's "enemy" granted Mickey never seemed to care about that-- but Os starts to act weird, keeping to himself a little more just to try and curb the feelings which leads to Pete realizing his feelings and RAAAAINING denial of that fact.

But it's hard to ignore when he's like... missing Oswald. What's up with that????

2) So obviously this one is hard because as you know I'm an AVID Oswald and Ortensia stan but Oswald has two hands~

BUT in this case I'd picture an AU of sorts-- similar story beats or something entirely new really it doesn't matter much what the background is because their personalities work really well together. So if it wasn't an open marriage, I'd say it's because of the same excuse I have given in the past-- Oswald and Ortensia are actors and as actors they are always paired together as a couple but are not officially an actual couple. Again, realistically details don't matter much I can MAKE IT WORK!!!

3) SO! Mickey knows about the growing friendship Oswald and Pete have and is happy about it! Oswald is a good friend to have and Mickey knows Os can handle himself, Pete isn't making him do anything he wouldn’t want to so ideally it'll be good for both of them! He is naive to the feelings though, mostly because he's pretty certain Oswald would've told him if that were the case. Oswald WOULD want to keep it secret as well, mostly because at first he has no -lans to act on them. He'd tell Mickey if Pete and him actually went any further then a friendship, but he'd keep his mouth SHUT about a budding crush. This draws a rift between Os and Pete of course, like I mentioned before.

If/WHEN they get together though and Mickey knows 9because he would know)- Oswald will openly talk about Pete often. He thinks that jerk is amazing and Mickey supports him.

And Sanji being a completely touch starved loser he is just has to prevent himself from hugging Usopp tighter. He doesn't care if sniper takes it the wrong way, he's just genuinely worried he will crush him if he does he knows he might.

And also the fear of telling Usopp when Sanji eventually does come into terms he's in love. Like that's gotta be the most nerve-wracking experience at the time.

Everything goes well tho they hug and hold hands and smooch and do boyfriends stuff and then the crew found One Piece and Luffy became king of pirates and everyone made their dreams come true and everything was good the end.

11/11 UPDATES

wazzuuuuup. welcome back to the griffith's tumblr page. (unless you are new here, then welcome for the first time!) i have a few updates here with me, but first...

KEL'S BIRTHDAY IS TODAY!!

that's right, people, kel's birthday (from OMORI) is today! on this day! at THIS TIME!! he's one of the BEST characters of all time and his birthday is RIGHT NOW. (can you believe it?!?!!?!)

anyways, enough rambling. let's get to the part that everyone cares about (except for the certain few that like kel)

overall info first:

im changing the order in which things will be finished. it'll go as follows now; #1- design all main characters. #2- plot the first half of the story. #3- make the ost of the first half and new/side characters' designs. #4- plot second half. #5- same thing as step #3 but for the second half. #6- create the game.

second of all, the main characters (minus griffith) are based off the five stages of grief. you know, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. so far, i have denial and bargaining designed. anger felt like an oddly hard one to design, so i took a break on it. i will definitely go back to it soon though.

new stuff created recently:

alrighty, i've got two characters to share! starting with "denial"...

well, "Archur Willow", that is. he's based off of denial, so he's obviously gotta be a denialist. he denies that anything is bad in the world to protect himself, he says he's happy despite feeling like he's constantly in mental torment, and he denies constantly that he's feeling bad, no matter what. he's also quite paranoid on top of all that.

alright, the next one (bargaining) might not be what you're expecting, but...

welcome Mickey Green to the roster! he's bargaining, which you would think would be begging for something to be given/given back with something else, but that's not what's going on here. this is the shop kind of bargaining. i chose to make him the traditional items merchant of the game. he's cocky, he gets into fights, and he will definitely beg you to buy his crap. (and yes, he does look like guy fieri, and yes, his design was based off of guy fieri. so what?)

as i said, i'm holding off on anger because it just felt too hard for the moment.

today, while trying to decide on designs for characters, i decided to doodle some cats while thinking. this is how it turned out.

and, looking at this, i thought "hey... you know what'd be funny?"

then this thing was birthed.

3.09 - "I'm flattered."

Another part of my Subjectify review that I am REALLY curious for people's thoughts on. This is following on directly from the killjoy post about Sam, Jamie and the armband, and it's about the moment everyone in the room apparently clocks Jamie as queer. This was something we both immediately enjoyed, obviously, but then my co-writer came to find quite weird in a not-so-great way, and I am still in a state of "What did that even mean?" I think Nat makes good points here but I'm curious where others are at about it

‘Ted Lasso’ season 3, episode 9 in conversation: Second-best way it could’ve gone

Natalie: Sorry to crush your joy. I’m about to do it again with the whole 10% gays in the dressing room moment, another bizarre choice regarding Jamie that I am going to complain about. Obviously we follow Isaac to the boot room for a moment, but we don’t hear much there before we cut BACK to the dressing room to follow up on the team’s mood after he leaves. I had high hopes for where this was going as they try to work out what exactly just happened here. Firstly, Moe assumes that Isaac’s reaction is because he himself is gay. It’s not an unfair assumption given the circumstances, and we – and more importantly Colin – get to see how the group would react when talking about a team member being gay.

I thought this was quite a clever way to show Colin that he was safe, all that kind of thing. It’s still not exactly a coming out on his own terms that he chose to do just because he wanted, but the stage was very well set for him. Of course everyone reacts well to Isaac being gay, of course Jan has a statistic, of course Beard pointed out the implication of that statistic. And now is the moment I get to stomp all over people’s happiness again by calling out how deeply shady I found the whole Jamie moment here to be.

This one wasn’t immediate hate, it was mostly a lot of confusion, and some delight at such an absurd response and non-denial. There’s a LOT of good things I have to say about the way Jamie responded to apparently the entire room assuming he’s in the 10%. But the fact that this was the gag – that everyone’s like, “Well, Jamie, right?” Oh, this felt very bad to me after a few minutes’ consideration. I’m such a fucking Zazu and a fun vampire I know, but like, this is NOT the same as a bunch of fellow queer people being like “Wow that earring, wow, that whole vibe.” This is not “I know what you are – one of us!” from a group of people in the LGBTQI+ community. This is “I know what you are – you’re not like us” from a bunch of straight guys who clock him as Other.

What the hell was going on here? What is the joke? What is the joke within their world? Is it how he dresses? Because spoiler alert, they all dress wildly. WHY THE FUCK IS HE THE ONE THE WHOLE ROOM THINKS IS QUEER? It’s so fucking difficult, because as a queer person I DO think he is queer. He feels like the MOST queer-coded player on the team to me and he always has. He is a CLASSIC bisexual disaster and every queer fan thinks so. So was this fan service? Is this Ted Lasso knowing that all the queer people watching the show claimed Jamie immediately and gave us a little nod to say “Sure, we get it!” Because fam, that does not come across the same way when it’s a group of straight footballers being like “Oh yeah, I always thought Jamie was a bit gay, bruv.” WHAT WAS THIS ABOUT, MEGAN?

It genuinely kind of concerns me that they’ve decided to be like “Oh, he’s clockable,” but in a straight guy “Oh well obviously he’s not one of us, the fruit” way. No one in that dressing room is thinking it that meanly, but like, what? Even Ted? Just… us as the queer audience clocking him is not the same at all as a bunch of straight dudes clocking him! For their presumed assumptions of what makes someone queer! What was the reason? Floral tracksuits? Hearing his dad call him a pussy? Of course my first reaction was like “WELL, NOT A NO!” and I’m also so thrilled he would say that even if straight, like it’s a compliment, given how his dad acts about him being soft. The fact he acted like that as opposed to being like “Fuck off, not me!” is beautiful. But WHAT THE FUCK, GREYHOUNDS?

Megan: Firstly, I respect and love you and your Zazu-ness. Or perhaps your Babs-ness, for an in-show reference. But yeah, look. Nearly every single person who I talk to about Ted Lasso sees Jamie and thinks “that is not a straight man,” but nearly every single person I talk to about Ted Lasso is also not, themselves, straight. So we are looking at Jamie, and seeing things about him – whether it’s tropes or style or behaviour – and thinking “Oh yeah. I see you. I recognise you. You are me.” But it is very different for a bunch of sports bros to look at Jamie and, with whatever well-meaning possibly internalised stereotypes they have, thinking “Oh yeah, Jamie’s the other one.”

I think this is probably meant to be fan service. That, as you say, it is meant to be an acknowledgement of the fact that so many queer fans who watch this have claimed Jamie as our own. We know that some involved know about this. Phil has spoken about Jamie and Roy it A LOT, and liked a comment on his instagram that said Jamie should get a boyfriend in season 3. I think that is what they are intending to show with this – “hey, we heard you, wink wink!” – and I think people who do have that valid read of Jamie loved it, especially because Jamie does not deny it! But when you dig a little deeper, the implications are not so good. Why you always gotta make me dig a little deeper, Babs? I mean Nat.

Natalie: Look, reductive as it may sound, them – them being the team, Ted and Beard, all of them thinking he’s queer because – what? He has an earring? He gets his eyebrows threaded? I literally don’t know! – is NOT the same as us thinking he’s queer. Like with us it’s the call is coming from inside the house. If he is NOT in fact actually going to be confirmed as bi, this is just a bunch of footballers being like “Well that guy feels gay to us for reasons.” WHAT REASONS? Because he’s very obviously been demonstrably into women!

Megan: It’s probably the Roy thing. Maybe they don’t think he’s realised it himself yet and they’re all staring at him waiting for him to do a realisation face about how him being obsessed with Roy makes him queer. One 3 second scene and two words have driven us mad.

Natalie: SO many people are DELIGHTED by this, like “Hahahahah they all know Jamie is queer!” and I’m just like…. “Okay, this feels very bad to me!” Even though I absolutely think he is queer! I think it’s a great response from him, given absolutely everything we know about him and his baggage with a toxic father. Jamie has done nothing wrong here. It’s just an INSANE implication from the other guys. And if it’s going nowhere, I also do not like to be pandered to. If Ted Lasso is doing fan service, like “We know you all think he’s queer, so here you go, a moment that acknowledges that maybe he does have a vibe like that, even though we don’t actually think he is,” they can keep it.

Maybe I’m not giving them enough trust, and next week he will just try to snog Roy because he can’t contain his feelings after his England call up. But if I was a footballer in the closet and the whole dressing room was like “We think you’re gay,” like. It’s not great! I would really like to know what the stereotypes are about him that mean these straight dudes who apparently haven’t clocked TRENT think this about him! Because yes, he may have expressed things! Instead of hearing what he has to say, and how he chooses to express himself, what parts he tells about his story or what happened with him and Isaac, we just cut back to Isaac and Roy – which is a very important scene, but like…They really think they did something here, cutting Colin. I think they thought it was meant to be powerful. It was not.

Hi!! I saw you've been reblogging OTH and remembered that I have so many UOs about that show! I was hoping to confess them to you and would obviously love to hear yours as well if you're comfortable sharing! A few: I hate Leyton, don't think they have any chemistry and they bring out the worst, most unhappy sides of each other - i like ships who have similarities but these two are alike in the worst ways that just bring out each other's flaws. And the attempt to show Leyton being more playful and carefree once they were together just felt so forced and unnatural that it was cringey. I LOVED Jeyton and think that ship brings out by far the happiest and best Peyton and love how Peyton makes carefree goofy Jake deeper - they're perfect for each other. I love Brucas despite not liking the love triangle or really Lucas in general with anyone other than Brooke. Despite season 2 being Naley's worst season, I really love it -mostly because of Brooke's growth, Jeyton, Brucas developing such a deep friendship etc. And finally even though I really wanted to love Brulian I just don't - something about the writing and acting for Julian doesn't work for me AT ALL, he came off like such a sleazy, slick jerk initially and then they tried too hard to make him endearingly dorky and neither persona felt authentic, and he and Brooke just felt so forced to me. We all want to see Brooke get the happily ever after she deserved but it just feels so unearned and unnatural to me and I swear I'm not saying that just because I love Brucas's dynamic! Also regarding Clay and Quinn---the Clay forgetting he had a son thing was insane even for this show and just has me genuinely worried for his stability going forward and Quinn kind of came off like a vapid moron to me not gonna lie lol. Okay, thank you SOOOOO much for letting me vent these to you - it was the OTH-themed therapy I couldn't afford! And despite all this I still love the show and may even start a blog about it lol. You're the best :)

First of all, I pretty much agree about Leyton. They're one of my least favorite ships of all time for a reason. I could understand the appeal back in season 1 and even think they had a smidgen of chemistry back then. But later, absolutely not. The narrative deviated too far away from the idea that Lucas and Peyton were supposed to end up together. Lucas had a big crush on Peyton and was very into the idea of her. But after deciding he wanted to become a better guy and getting to know both girls as a friend, he realized he was in love with Brooke. It's never made ANY sense to me in universe that Lucas would decide to go for the much more difficult option of winning back Brooke over trying again with Peyton if his heart wasn't 100% with Brooke. So by the time the story started to change in season 4, it felt abrupt and unbelievable for Lucas to be "in denial" about his true feelings. Even worse, they played out the exact same story beats in season 5 when the triangle was between Peyton and Lindsey. So, does breaking up with Peyton result in Lucas becoming so distraught that his feelings for her go in the proverbial vault where he genuinely believes they're not there anymore, only for them to come out at just the right, convenient moment? Or does Lucas use Peyton as his easy, backup plan and only passively return to "true love always" when he has no other option and feels she's waited long enough? Anyways, I completely agree about Lucas and Peyton bringing out each other's worst qualities. I strongly feel that they become the worst, most selfish versions of themselves when they're together. They are incapable of getting their shit together without emotionally devastating other people in the process. And by late season 3, Peyton is such a lesser version of who she used to be in service of her being the ideal person for Lucas. Like, the idea that Brooke is becoming more independent and maybe not relying as much on Lucas's physical presence is supposed to signal alarm bells ringing that she doesn't love him enough? But Peyton's love is true because the writers constantly stick her into situations where the prince has to save the damsel in distress? It really does Peyton a disservice. It's okay to desire love and to want someone who will care for you and have your back when you need them, but Peyton's life always takes such a depressing turn right around the time she decides she wants Lucas. Ex: attempted rape, Ellie's death, school shooting, not being successful in LA. The problem with LP is that they were such an angsty couple to begin with. That's where they thrived. Whenever their relationship became more happy and cheesy, the chemistry was completely off. Whatever the opposite of natural chemistry is, that's what they had.

I don't have much to add about Brucas and Jeyton, but I feel the same way. I feel like their love stories were well written during seasons 2 and 3 and even parts of season 1. The chemistry between both was undeniable, and Brooke and Jake brought out much more likable, more selfless sides of Lucas and Peyton.

YES. I'm a big fan of season 2. While not every aspect of it was the best, the highs outweighed the lows for me. Almost all of the episodes are watchable and have great moments in them that don't detract from them. In my opinion, season 4, in contrast, is actively more bad than good up until 409, and overall has a much different tone from the first three seasons. Both Brooke and Peyton suffer from awful writing, and Haley is pushed into the background during her own pregnancy to focus almost exclusively on Nathan.

I get what you mean. I haven't gotten to the Julian years on my current rewatch, but they never grabbed me the way Brucas did. The chemistry was just.. lesser. It's no one's fault. You can't predict which actors are going to pop on screen. It makes sense that Brooke's chemistry and relationship with Julian would feel more comfortable and sweet rather than passionate and intense. But at the same time, I don't root for them as much as I'd like to for those exact reasons. I feel like when Brucas was at their best, none of Brooke's other relationships could come close. Julian's writing was odd. He's actively a different character in season 6 compared to seasons 8 and 9. I really wish he hadn't been introduced as Peyton's former love interest. That wasn't needed.

As for Clay and Quinn, I'm mostly neutral on Quinn as a character and their relationship. But I agree that Clay forgetting he had a child was A LOT. They could have easily adopted a child together, but instead they decided Clay needed a long lost child with his dead wife. The only reason they halfway got away with that is because Logan was by far the cutest kid alive.

Unpopular opinions:

I could never hate or resent Haley for the tour. I think the writing surrounding all of that was incredibly sexist and kind of manipulative so that it would be in Nathan's favor rather than Haley's. We spent so much time on his perspective and his depression over the whole thing, but pretty much no screen time was devoted to Haley's time on the tour or what her conflicting feelings were re: Nathan and her marriage until she came home at the end of the season. There were different ideas offered up in regards to Haley/Chris. One was that she was simply envious of his freedom to pursue his dreams. Another is that Haley had genuine romantic feelings for Chris and was lying to herself for obvious reasons. I don't feel like any of that was given any closure.

I actively ignore the Brooke/Nathan sex tape. It was painfully clear the retcon was only added in to let Peyton (and Lucas) off the hook for betraying Brooke a second time and to conveniently "even the score" while making it appear Brooke had been a hypocrite all along.

Peyton confessing to Brooke that she still had feelings for Lucas wasn't noble, and her behavior after Brooke became hurt and angry to the point of asking Brooke whether or not she loved Lucas makes it clear that at least subconsciously, Peyton wasn't saying what she said solely to be honest and clear the air.

I shipped Haley and Chris a little bit. I'm so happy they never got together because it would have ruined everything, but there were vibes there.

I liked Alex better than Mia.

I love Rachel and think the writers did her SO dirty.

Deb was cringy after season 1. She still had good moments and I know that professionally, Barbara preferred her work as later Deb, but I always preferred the Deb that somewhat had her shit together. Later on, it felt like she was turned into too much of an anti Karen.

Anna was a good character. She was just awkwardly paired with Lucas and attached to Felix - who was the WORST.

So I guess my unpopular opinions are that I love most of the female characters? Even Peyton, even though it probably didn't come across that way LOL

An Uncanny Resemblance I noticed

While I was playing Three Hopes, I obviously had to do the Golden Deer Route first because of my boy Claude. And I realized he has an uncanny resemblance to another character I truly do love, while also being a wholly separate and distinct character. I love them both as characters for different reasons, so I'm really not trying to say they're interchangeable or anything like that, it's just that the more I realized they had in common writing wise, the more stunned I became.

In order to keep the above the cut text spoiler free, I will get this out of the way: They are both well regarded tacticians who do/can specialize in wind magic.

Absolutely massive spoilers for both characters below the cut. You have been warned.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT

So, anyway, just to make it perfectly clear: Claude and Soren are two very distinct and different people. Claude hides behind overt friendliness and jokes to avoid discussing serious issues. Soren hides behind being really cutting and rude to keep people from getting close to him so he doesn't have to hurt again. Soren is practical and methodical above everything else. Claude acts with empathy, but will make the hard decisions if push comes to shove.

But now onto the similarities that staggered me:

The character:

Is stated to be a highly intelligent tactician and strategist

Soren is stated to be a strategist of peerless talent in the lore of the tellius games

Claude is many times stated to be a schemer, a strategy guy

Has a high association with wind magic

Soren comes with a Wind Tome in FE9 and is a Wind Sage in FE10

If Claude is put into a class where he learns Reason, he learns all 3 wind magic spells and 1 Black Magic spell. In Three Hopes, Claude's combos often have wind magic used, even in his standard sniper/barbarossa classes

Would or does use non-lethal poisons to get the edge on their opponent

Soren uses poisoned food to knock out the guards at a fortress so the Gallian army can get in and attack

Claude jokes about wanting to use poison on the other classes in the Battle of the Eagle and Lion that would weaken them, but not kill them (every time he talks about developing poisons, it's non-lethal, stomach-aches and the like)

May or may not be recognized by their parents with the name they use now

Almedha mistakes Pelleas as her son, and has to ask Soren what his name is, implying that either Soren is not the name he was given at birth, or he was not given any name at birth

Claude's birth name is Khalid, and it is unclear if his parents would be aware that he began going by the name Claude Von Reigan in Fódlan

Is often shipped with a mercenary friend they meet along their path, relies on this mercenary friend for help

Soren is often shipped with Ike

Claude is often shipped with Byleth

Is born of the blood of two "warring" peoples/races and is treated poorly in their childhood because of their mixed blood

Soren is a Branded, half black dragon laguz and half beorc, and he experiences a lot of trauma and hardship as a child because he is Branded

"On my way to Crimea, I kept seeing laguz from the beast tribe. They were terrifying, but after a while I realized something. They never attacked me. They all seemed to notice something about me, and then pretend they couldn't see me. That look was burned into my mind, and it was always the same. They'd scowl, then walk away like they'd never noticed me. In a way, that left me feeling colder and more alone than if they'd attacked me. Hate... That I could understand. This was denial. They made me feel like I wasn't supposed to exist at all. That my simply being alive was an affront to the world. That was how the beasts treated me. And I hated them for it. It sat in my heart like a lead bar. Like a glacier."

Claude is half Almyran and half Fódlan, and he is treated as an outsider within Almyra to the point that he flees to Leicester to escape the way he's being treated

"So the young boy was treated horribly by everyone around him. He hadn't done anything wrong. Everyone hated him simply for existing. Yelling, fighting back, explaining himself... Nothing he did could change his situation. When he was finally old enough, he ran far away from home. He escaped."

Spends a lot of time in their youth looking for a place where they belong

Ike is the first person to be nice to Soren and saves Soren from starving to death, so when they're separated as children, Soren spends several years looking for Ike and feels that the only place he belongs is by Ike’s side

Claude goes to Leicester to try and find a place where he won't be treated as an outsider and be accepted for who he is, and once he finds that's not possible, he decides to make a place where he belongs

The character's father is:

King of a nation that often believed to be evil by other countries, and invades the borders of nearby countries often

Soren’s father is King Ashnard of Daein, and Daein invades Crimea to start the Mad King’s War and Ashnard frequently attacked the Begnion border to claim some territory from Begnion for Daein

Claude's father is the king of Almyra, and his people often attacks Fódlan's Throat to prove their strength, viewed as barbaric and cruel by the people of Fódlan (the fantasy racism of Three Houses is not an issue I'm well equipped to discuss, I know how problematic it is, but I'm not saying the king of Almyra is Ashnard, we never meet him. It's just that the king of Almyra would be viewed in a similar light by the people of Fódlan as everyone outside of Daein views Ashnard)

The character's mother:

Is the daughter of the leader of a nation

Soren’s mother is Princess Almedha of Goldoa, daughter of King Dheginsea

Claude's mother is Tiana, daughter of the Duke of Riegan, leader of the Leicester Alliance

Is the second child of the leader of her homeland

Almedha is the middle child of three children of King Dheginsea

Tiana is the youngest of two children of the Duke of Riegan

Has an older brother who is killed

Almedha's older brother Rajaion is turned into a Feral One by Ashnard and dies at the end of the Mad King's War

Tiana's older brother is killed with her father, creating the power vaccum in the Leicester Alliance that Claude eventually fills

Her older brother was killed for the machinations of another

Rajaion was turned into a Feral One so Ashnard could have a strong weapon

Tiana's brother is killed by Mercenaries hired by Count Gloucester to harass merchants

Left her homeland

Almedha left Goldoa because she wanted fight and her father would not allow her to

Tiana left Leicester because she fell in love with the King of Almyra

Is considered to be the wife of the king of the "evil" nation

Almedha is viewed as the dowager queen of Daein and said to be King Ashnard's wife, even though they never married

Tiana is the wife or mistress of the King of Almyra, it is unclear

Is shown to admire the belligerent ways of the king with a taste for battle herself

Almedha is said to have wanted to wage war with her dragon powers and shown to have had some admiration of Ashnard's methods, even if that meant killing 1,000 innocent civilians

Tiana is described by Claude as a warrior goddess, beating a man who had been undefeated in over a hundred battles, and laughs right along with the king of Almyra as he punishes people

If no one's ever gone over the massive list of similarities between Ike and Byleth before, here's a quick and dirty run-down because they are commonly shipped with their close mercenary friend.

The character's mercenary friend:

Has a dead mother who was part of a religious order

Elena was a priestess of Palmeni Temple

Sitri was a member of the Church of Seiros as a priestess/nun

Has a mercenary father who raised them to be a mercenary, and never speaks of the dead mother

Greil runs Greil’s Mercenaries and Ike being allowed to join the mercenary company is the opening of the game. Greil speaks of Elena so little Ike knows something's wrong with Greil talks about her before dying

Jerald runs Jeralt's Mercenaries and Byleth joins and earns the name the Ashen Demon. Jeralt speaks of Sitri very little.

Their mother once possessed a "Fire Emblem" and this resulted in her death

Elena took Lehran’s Medallion to hide it from Ashnard and was killed when Greil accidentally touched it

Sitri had the Heart of Sothis which gave her life and passed it to Byleth when Byleth was stillborn, this gives Byleth the Crest of Flames (Fódlan’s “Fire Emblem”), but killed Sitri

Greil is killed by the Black Knight, and Ike swears vengeance

yeah sure

i'll start with the easiest thing i can, he's racist. canonically racist. he specifically targeted lucas. he said "people like him" (if it's not word for word oh well) when referring to lucas. you can't really defend that.

why does this matter to me? i'm not black, but it still matters. i'm mexican and have been told i have the darkest skin out of everyone in my family. i've experienced racism in many forms.

1. casual

jokes about my skin color, jokes about my culture, shit like that. usually followed up with "it's just a joke"

2. passive aggressive

more silent racism, like the stereotypical white woman clutching her purse as i walk by. like you just know they want to call you some shit but they don't

3. flat out aggressive

slurs, trying to fight me (idk why though)

4. miscellaneous (idk what section to add these to)

people saying they "don't see my color", denial of their racism, saying white privilege doesn't exist, sexualization, cultural appropriation, tokenism

so i am pretty sure i can confidently say i have seen and experienced racism, so i know what it looks like.

and obviously i know racism will look a bit or very different when applied to different races.

examples: i have never been called the n word, that's something black people experience. i have never had comments made on my eyes/had them been made fun of, that's something mainly asian people experience (same with stereotypes on food).

another thing is SOME of his fans have god awful takes.

example 1. saying that 12 year old mike wheeler was more racist than billy was.

yes what mike said in season 2 was racist. but racism is racism. mike had one situation of my knowledge. billy did what i previously said, and acted violently. if you say him grabbing and pinning 12-13 year old lucas against that dish cabinet or whatever the fuck that was, wasn't violent or attacking, reevaluate why you think it isn't.

then obviously there is him trying to run the party off the road, he saw lucas in the group and only have a shit max was hanging out with lucas.

he didn't care that dustin had obvious feelings for max, billy only cared about lucas being around max.

example 2. he was possessed by the mind flayer, he had no control.

that was in season 3, not season 2. yes he was possessed in season 3, but in season 2 he didn't even know about the upside down, so that argument is entirely irrelevant when discussing season 2 billy.

and yes i know he was abused, and that's tragic that he's relatable. i would never wish what he and a noticeable part of his fan base have experienced.

i also know his abuse traumatized him into commiting the actions that he did. i think it's pretty unfair when people who are anti billy say things that can quite literally mean "just get over it". but i also think it's incredibly unfair when people who are pro billy just ignore the negative impact he left.

i had some difficultly rewatching some of his scenes that he was in, because of his racism. again, i experience racism daily. so i'll say it again, i can't just throw away my morals for fiction, i'm sorry, i just can't.

Okay so I listened for a whole bunch without writing posts about it but in my defence let's just say that it's been hectic, going back to both studying and working :C

So, let's make one thing clear: the bits with Sasha and Tim broke my heart. 'Nooo, you took it too far! I'm unforgettable!' So. So every single human being in the world is now tortured except for the ones who are doing the torturing and Jon because he's <checks notes> Ceaseless Watcher's Special Boy and Martin because Jon basically protects him. And maybe Basira who is chasing after Daisy apparently. Gosh it's like. Obviously it's fiction, obviously when you think about it, it's horrible. Throughout the whole four seasons I was really chill about the statements and well, objectively I still am because it's not that easy for me to find something in fiction 'scary' but it is a bit easier for me to find something 'disturbing' and a lot of these domains quickly become such if I think about it for a while.

Since this is honestly my first proper, deep experience with horror, I have to admit that it's a feeling I'm not very used to when consuming fiction but it's also a very interesting one.

Anyway, this aside... I mean this feeling will likely follow me for a while but you know, it's not all I think about this season. So this aside, a bunch of other stuff.

By the way, I see the way Jon finds it all horrible and fascinating at the same time, the way he kind of... Does want to drink all that fear in. He told Martin 'you are my reason' regarding the quest, regarding walking through all of it but I think it also applies to not... Losing himself, so to speak.

And also oh damn the children. There is something... I mean it's like, it's like the danger almost doesn't exist. Are those monsters there or is it just their imagination that Callum nudges into even scarier directions? And the fact that they're basically cultivated by the fears until they grow up and their fears become something more interesting to the Eye. Damn.

Things also sound rather tense between Jon and Martin at times, but honestly I'm not surprised, considering... The whole situation. I'm just glad they can be there for each other even though the world sucks :C

This might be my own trauma speaking (lmao) but after someone on Twitter pointed out how much J's girl friend (that he met in college) is featured on his socials and is always his + one in every red carpet he has including TBOSAS gave me war flashbacks. The girl flew to Germany and stayed with J and R at their flat while they were filming the movie, J can barely share a picture of R but he does have pictures of this woman. I'm not necessarily saying he's a cheater and that he has something going on with his friend but for experience I know it is hard dating a man with a female best friend not because the girl is the problem but because the man often lefts you out and lowkey compares you with the other. Reading J's insta comments from 2019-2020 I could see R heavily overcompensating on every picture J posted of his friend, calling her "my wife" lol I've seen this before... again not trying to be misogynist or imply there's some hidden love triangle, it's just after experiencing this im more wary of this type of dynamic especially as R is the youngest of the 3.

I can tell it bothers her because every time someone praises T from defending her PUBLICLY, she likes pics of J lol. She’s in denial.

Female best friends are very tricky. I’ve seen some that work well (woman is usually gay, makes the gf feel included or has her own life and doesn’t follow the man around) and I’ve seen others that are horrible (cheating, jealousy, sabotaging relationship etc). There needs to be clear boundaries and expectations when a man has a female BFF and J doesn’t have those boundaries. His BFF will always come first. He will always value her opinion over R’s. R is third wheeling their friendship by calling the BFF “wifey”. BFF doesn’t see R as “wifey” because she was there for J first.

Let’s compare it to R who has male BFFs but always makes sure people know she’s in a happy relationship and makes the boundaries very clear.

I had no idea the BFF stayed with them while they filmed and was his +1 at premiere. They have no sense of respect for R which is a major red flag. Even T didn’t want his gf there to respect her privacy but J can’t leave his girl BFF home for some reason.

I never would have guessed that R and J are dating based on his ig. A lot of people were genuinely shocked when they found out. When they said R is dating her costar, everyone assumed it was T and people quickly said “no! She’s dating the Sejanus actor”. People don’t even know his name.

R constantly hypes J up every chance she gets and he’s silent about her.

I gotta agree with you on almost all of that, my real name is actually unisex, i didnt change it. Before I came out I was very transphobic and hyper masculine because I figured nobody would expect me to be trans or gay or anything else if I showed hate and acted hyper masculine.

So that brings up the question, are you trying to bully me to distance yourself from who you truly are? Are you confused and/or hiding something deep down that you know to be true? Coming out isn't as traumatic and hard as some folks make it out to be. It is what you make of it, I was scared shitless until I did it, and i didn't lose any friends, get disowned by my family or go through any bullying in real life. Everything I feared never happened. In fact it was the opposite, I found my social circle and my family to be encouraging and happy for me. I was extremely depressed with my gender identity, my body, and in general, I was just so depressed. So when I took the plunge and finally did it, after 7 years of debating and planning, i truly came out of my shell and into my own. I was happy, free, and my mental health stabilized and got better! I had hope that things would change, that I wouldn't be stuck, trapped in a body that disgusted me for the rest of my life. It was slow, like I said it's been 3 years and 2 months since I started hormones and such. But in year two I started seeing the person I always wanted to see looking back at me in the mirror. Around the same time society started seeing me as a female too. It was a slow transformation, but I had hope that I would get to where I'm at now, and well here I am lol!

So yeah, next time you go around trying to shit on somebody for living their best life and doing something positive for themselves. Look inside yourself, and ask yourself why you feel the need to bully somebody for who they are? You might realize something, that it comes from jealousy, a feeling of failure or self hatred. This "ask" says alot about you and your own insecurities. So yeah, when the time comes and you've figured out why you feel the need to bully people, just know that I don't need an apology or anything. I'm not offended, instead I feel bad for you, and I hope you can find peace within yourself one day before its too late...

Ethan Winters. Simon Jarrett. Existential Horror. Something. It's 3 AM Man.

First of all I have to say that I've never played SOMA myself before. When I say I'm horrible with horror I really mean it, but the core theme of the game and how it deals with humanity has been a huge source of inspiration for me for a while. The best part is you don't even have to play the game yourself. Just listening to video essays is enough to make you think for hours if you're not careful lol

Obviously spoilers for both SOMA and RE8, but like, the games are out for years now...

The point is, I feel like understanding Simon Jarrett would help with understanding Ethan Winters a lot better, and why just excepting that he's molded might not work for him. I feel like they have some similarities in terms of their existential horror but SOMA showed it better as it was the whole point about the game, while RE8 is left to be just an underlying thoughts as it was more action-focused... If you can't explain it properly using one game, then use another game baby!!!

Now, I don't think Capcom thought that far ahead, but hey, nothing wrong with trying to humanize your favorite character, right? That's my dad, y'know? So in that way it's pretty much a personal interpretation rather than an actual analysis. Again. It is also 3 AM right now. Hot damn.

Pretty early on in SOMA, you encounter a robot, or a Mockingbird, to be exact, who still thought of himself as a human. He fully believed himself to be an injured human and asked the protagonist to help him. Telling him that he was a robot would anger him, and he'd tell you he still had arms and legs... Or after that, another brain scan that shut himself down from stress once he realized something was wrong and had to be convinced that the simulation was real for him to give up. And then there's Simon himself, too. Initially, Simon also saw himself as a human, flesh and all. Only when he looked into the mirror did he become aware of his true appearance. Do you see what I'm getting at here. The brain does weird things to keep itself together is another thing that was also presented in SOMA.

Not only that, but Simon was also repeatedly explained about the process of brain scanning and how it works, how they'd always be left behind while it was their copies that would live on, but he simply couldn't comprehend it, or rather he wouldn't listen. Repressed, in denial, whatever. It was, after all, an awful truth. Anyways, the last thing Simon knew he was a normal guy with a brain injury, and then he wasn't anymore, but he didn't know that and kept thinking he was normal up until a certain point, sounds familiar?

The point is, you could probably apply the same thought process to Ethan, too, although less extreme as he didn't suddenly wake up a robot. I see a lot of people questioning why Ethan thought he could just reattach his hand and not realize that there was something wrong with him. Personally I think that what if, on a certain level, he did know that he wasn't normal anymore, hence immediately coming to the conclusion that he could just reattach his limbs, but he never questioned it or dig deeper because his brain shut it out to keep itself together. He died, literally. Foot to the head right after his wife chainsawed his arm off. That HAD to be one hell of a trauma. And by the time he finally realized he died, Ethan was angry and had a one-track mind. He did freak out for a bit when Eveline broke it to him ("Then what am I?") but he didn't have time to have a crisis. He had to pull himself together ("Family? F-Family? No! Rose! I have to...save...my daughter!") and save Rose. Then he died before he had a chance to fully comprehend the real horror that lies beyond his superficial humanity.

(I also think he's dubiously human as hell. Best case scenario is the mold revived him and he retained his consciousness. Worst case is the real Ethan died right there and the Ethan that lived on was an archived consciousness, or the mold integrated with him so well it inherited his memories and thought it was Ethan Winters. You can pick whichever you like. A little existential dread is fun once in a while-)

There's not much to talk about here but there's also a pretty interesting parallel at the end where the brain scan of Simon got launched into the ark, and as for Ethan, an archive of his consciousness lives on in the realm of consciousness.

let's start this of with probably my fav thing about stranger things: subtext. so much of this show, of these characters is subtext. especially when it comes to billy. there is not a lot actually explicitly stated in the show about his character. a lot that is treated as a fact is made up by the fandom by what really is more subtext of the scenes we see with him. particularly from season 2.

apropos season 2 billy. definitely not a great brother figure i think we can all agree. a reckless 17-year old with a lot of anger issues. i have a whole essay about the different possible characterisations of him too, someone stop me. his interactions with max? not great. absolutely not great. i personally think calling it abusive goes a bit far but that's just me. i also think there is a lot to be said for his actions maybe being screwed up ways of showing affection but that again is another essay in itself.

however as it is in season 2 we have: no kind words between max and billy, no real emotion unless it's anger or fear or frustration, max specifically talking with obvious disdain about him.

what do we have in season 3? none of the above.

i mean even s2 ends with billy looking at max in something that looks like contemplation, there's no disdain, and i would venture to say even affection in his look but obviously that's subjective. what isn't subjective is that despite max taking him out before, the season doesn't end violently between them. it ends just with them looking at each other.

now in s3? things are vastly different.

when max talks about billy in s3 it's in a way that just screams annoyed little sister. "wrong is kind of his default" said while smiling. to her friend. no reason to be pretending. and while they are in his room. listen my good dudes idk but that's not really what you'd do if you were being abused by someone.

especially bc in s2 max was clearly scared of billy and what he'd do. she was visibly scared when he held her arm in the car, she made lucas stay behind in the arcade, she turned the steering wheel, "he'll kill me, he'll kill us". if she'd been feeling that fear in s3 still she probably would not have gone as far as to enter his room. she was actively trying not to aggravate him before and in s3 it doesn't seem at all like she fears any consequences from him.

another important point: she is obviously upset by the idea of billy being flayed. she says so multiple times. she denies the chance of it. not particularly how you'd expect someone to react if they were feeling indifferent or hateful towards someone?

she also offers him up to be spied on by el in the first place. again why'd she do that if she were feeling as upset by him as she was in the previous season? also the only thing she warns eleven of is billy potentially being with a girl. like that's the worst she could imagine him doing.

max is also not particularly surprised by how nice billy acts when they find him with the holloways. when he is being perfectly polite, introduces her as his sister, and is nice to her. sure she looks a bit confused in the moment but ultimately summarises the evening to mean he's normal.

the sauna scene. honestly. the main point. she at first doesn't even want to do it. my baby is deep in denial. "i hope it's not you." and then she is visibly upset when they do put him in the sauna. before he's activated billy is begging her to believe him. and listen my dudes if he was feeling spiteful or disdainful towards her? he probably wouldn't be doing that. "please believe me max" he trusts her. when she asks him to explain further, he does. she wants to help him. there's enough affection between them that seeing him completely breaking down makes max cry.

moving onto my least favourite scene: his death. max' shock upon seeing him dying and begging for him to stay alive. mh. yeah idk. her guilt in s4 as well (i'm not gonna go into what else went on in s4 bc i'm not yet done with my rewatch) oh also just that she touches him without hesitance when he's on the floor. and sure he's clearly wounded but there is no hesitance on her side to get in his space at all. same as before when she was trying to get through to him when he was coming towards her, eleven and mike. she stands there and talks to him right until he is in her space and doesn't flinch away from him. yes abuse or hate are different and don't show for everyone the same way but also. this is very atypical behaviour, at multiple times just saying.

then there is the obvious grief. (granted i think grief itself doesn't necessarily mean that the person who's gone wasn't abusive or just shitty, simply bc it's not as black and white as people would like to make it out to be.) and then i mean obviously people grieve differently but also i personally think the fact that she is shown in his room does kind of point towards a better relationship too, it's a clear admittance at least to herself that she is missing him to a degree. she is seeking out his presence in a way? from what i know about grieving someone you didn't particularly want around the part of missing them is hard to accept. but again not my main point and also not a fact just yk my personal thoughts.

lastly i could also bring up my favourite thing ever: in s2 max knows how to drive the camaro and someone has to have taught her. it was billy and you can't change my mind. so even before s2 maybe there was a better relationship? .. there could be other clues for that too but yeah no i think i've made my point:

billy hargrove and max mayfield had an at least decent relationship by s3, thank you for your time. @ the duffers i'll meet you about this in a parking lot somewhere and i'll bring my k*ll nancy instead of steve presentation.
