it's dark in the fortress of meropide.

the duke’s office is quiet, the silence only broken by the soft snores of the man sleeping at the desk. half filled papers and letters are strewn around wriothesley, who is slumped on the table surface, fountain pen still loosely clutched in his grip.

wriothesley doesn't usually drown himself in work, but on certain days he finds himself dealing with maison gestion’s stringent documents, recording each clockwork meka assembled in the production zone. on those days, both of you forgo your usual night routine, and you always head to his office to keep him company as he works.

but today, it appears exhaustion has taken hold of him, and he drifted off to sleep in the middle of work.

you cautiously make your way to his desk, treading with light steps, careful not to make a sound. 

his desk is a mess. you quietly sort the papers as your lover snores away beside you. before long, neat little piles of paper form in front of you. 

you gently pry the fountain pen from his loose grip. the pen is old, and sometimes ink refuses to flow from its nib. you remember telling him so, and bought him a new one to use at his desk. a sleek black body with his name engraved on it in silver.  funnily enough though, that pen never even made it into his office. instead, it sits on the table next to his side of the bed. 

with the desk in front of you tidied, you take wriothesley's jacket, hung over the back of his chair, and cover his sleeping form.

now that everything's settled, you ought to take your leave. you will see him again in the morning. 

you pause. unless…

your bet with sigewinne is still on. 

you pull a sheet of stickers from your pocket. before long, a grumpy monsieur neuvillette has decorated your lover's shoulder. 

you should have stopped there, really, but neuvillette looked so lonely without anyone to accompany him.

running out of flat space to comfortably stick stickers on, you make a daring move. a pleading melusine, right on his cheek. 

its hard to say you felt a little guilty, especially as the grin on your face grew wider and wider as you pasted more stickers on your partner's gorgeous face. a proud-faced bunny here, a sobbing kitten there, and ooh this one has hearts on it how could you not….

before long, the entire sheet of stickers had been plastered onto wriothesley's face. 

at this point, your shoulders are shaking with silent laughter. your palm is pressed to your lips as your other hand reaches over to his eyes to brush his hair away-

and suddenly you find the sky blue irises of the duke staring into yours.

“just what are you up to, darling?”

There's just something really cute about being the segments' firsts. Their first hand-holder, first kiss, first hug, first date. They all have memories of you from which their creator imbued into them, but they didn't actually do those things with you. It's not their specific memories. It was merely Prime's memories from that stage of his life with you. So, in reality, they're all kind of... sad little clones who haven't felt the touch of love in their entire lives. Solely fulfilling their duty as one of Prime's segments. The affection they remember never actually being experienced by them personally. The feelings never actually felt by them.

The younger segments especially get more worked up about it. Especially when they see you being so blatantly affectionate with Prime. Oh, how they wish that could be them. That you could give them the time of day too. It ends up frustrating them to the point where they nearly break equipment in the process. The older segments are more aware of their place, so they don't show their urges much outwardly, but that doesn't mean they aren't disappointed.

When you finally get comfortable enough around them, they're tripping over themselves to figure out how to persuade you best so that you'll spend them with them instead of the other segments. So that they'll receive lots of kisses and your attention will solely be on them, for the first time since their creation date. (Would you care to join me in dissecting a body, dearest? No, [Name] would much prefer to examine Ruin Guards with me! As if. They would much rather help me out in the lab instead.)

Once you give them a taste of what you have to give, there's no going back. Because the thing about being their firsts, is that they'll demand for you to be their seconds, thirds, and fourths as they truly can't be enough. They might suffocate you, but you'd like that, wouldn't you? You have two hands, shoulders, a lap, a back, and more for a reason!

Okay this is going of my previous post about Leo so go read that first. Also this post is like background and kind of reasoning so really make your own judgement from this post. Plus this is like 800+ words so this is gonna be a doozy.

Leo only really trusts her direct family, yes of course she loves her aunts, uncles and egg siblings. But when it comes down to it, she’ll always be looking for her dad in the crowd of people because she holds herself back from really developing deeper connections with anyone else. Which I think is in part due to the death of Trump, the lack of effort from others, others being untrustworthy and Vegetta having to leave for long periods.

With Trump’s death, I do think that when Trump died a part of Leo died. Like some people forget that Leo had to watch their best friend die while they were unable to do anything. We talk about how much of a tragedy Trumps death was, but we never talk about the effect it had on Leo. Part of the reason I think Leo doesn’t actively seek out other eggs is because she fears that they’ll die, and it’ll be her fault. Cause somewhere in her heart she believes that Trump’s death was her fault since she wasn’t able to do anything to help him.

She also doesn’t often initiate conversation with others because of how many times she is disregarded by the others. Which isn’t to say they don’t care for her but often they’ll have like 2-3 sentences of conversation and that’s it or some who don’t understand Spanish barely try to understand or give Leo the time of day. But it isn’t the case for all of them because there are a few (like Cellbit, Roier, Jaiden, Tina & Mouse) who don’t always get to see her, that do actively interact with her. However, she will always end up being the second choice (which is becoming the truth for Mouse and Tina who now actually have a child; I think Jaiden will always have Leo in mind, but it depends on how she reacts to Empanada).

All of this is part of the reason Leo doesn’t always try to initiate conversation anymore because of the effort many don’t put into trying to understand her. As well why should she give up her native language to conform to everyone else’s needs when they have the tools to understand her, they have the sign translator, and nothing is stopping them from asking chat or using google to translate. Those things just take a bit more time to do but nothings wrong with doing it cause at least then they’re trying.

Along with all this only recently (excluding festa junina), when the election arc was ending and before the eggs went missing was, she actively seeked out her extended family on her own, like Roier, Cellbit and Richas without their prompt. Which is a big step since she’s hasn’t actually done that without Foolish in months, practically ever since Trumpet died. (Yes, sometimes others do her tasks, but this part isn’t about tasks. Also, that’s usually a desperate situation in which Leo has to rely on others if Foolish isn���t on and her admin still is in school so she can’t be active all the time. So tasks don’t really count here cause she’s just trying to survive).

With Vegetta she understands why he’s not around because that’s all she can do. She has never doubted that he doesn't love her, but she does miss him. I think because Vegetta was such a fierce protector of his family, she did feel a bit threatened by others when he wasn’t around. Because Foolish isn’t taken seriously and Vegetta was always respected due to his fierce protectivenesses. So, without Vegetta who isn’t afraid to strike back on people 10x harder, it can be hard for her to feel truly safe interacting with others because of how aware she is of the situation and feelings surrounding her parents.

She is truly content being just with Foolish and seeing others on the occasion but I do think she was tired of trying only to be met with failure and learning that you can’t always trust everyone on the island. She’s not blind to how everyone treats Foolish so she is always aware of Foolish’s warnings about others and from watching that she’s can’t trust everyone here like the other eggs do.

Plus, when she comes back, she’ll witness it herself again if she notices some of her things are missing and if Bad asks Leo to share her NINHO room. Which is unfair to her because they wouldn’t dare do that to another egg. Like they might not know it’s her stuff but they could ask Foolish before hand to prevent that risk of taking her things yet they don’t. Also with the NINHO they can build a temporary NINHO solutions somewhere else (like normal protected houses such as Ramon’s or Phil’s house). The solutions aren’t hard to do if they put their heads together and think, but they just don’t want to put in the effort. But even with the NINHO room she might agree to it (even though she shouldn’t) if Foolish isn’t there because I don’t think she’ll be honest about her feelings with anyone but Foolish or her direct family(if pressed) cause others have never really listened to or understood Leo’s emotions before.

Really the conclusion to all this is that Leo has never been able to honestly express her feelings to others because she’s learned not to trust them and they’ve never actively tried to understand her more than surface level. But she’s a child so how is she even able to communicate this when the communication and understanding is the problem.

Overall I'm tired of people not seeing Leo for what she is and that is a happy child despite the struggles she continues to faced due to the disrespect, lack of effort from others and loneliness from having to struggle with all of this as a child.

Shut up idea for maths based spellcasting - specifically probability - that is based upon my idea for a ‘mathologer’ in dnd

So there are only 6 levels of spells available. This is important as at max level your “spell slots” will add to 20 (the regular number of spell slots up to level 7, just take the 2 from 7 and add it to 3 and 2)

So you start off with a ‘die’ (for now a d4) and with 2 level 1 “spell slots”. Before casting a spell, you roll the die to see if your spell casts. If it is 1 or 2, you can cast a level 1 spell, if it is 3 or 4, you ‘overcast’ and can’t cast magic for a turn (out of battle roll until you can cast, that is your prepared spell).

When you level up, you get a level 1 and level 2 spell slot! Yayyy! So you can cast level 2 spells (at a 25% chance)

However. When you next level up, you get another level 1 spell slot. I’ll explain exactly how spell slots are distributed (this applies for all dice). Starting from the lowest number, it goes all of your first level spell slots, then all of your second level spell slots, then all your third, etc. so with a d4 at level 3, even though you know level 2 spells, you can’t cast them, because you’d only ever roll level 1. If you want to be able to cast level 2 spells, you’d have to upgrade to a d6, and risk overcasting. (I wrote that before figuring out the spell slot distribution, so technically you can cast level 2 at level 3, but it’d be a 25% with d4 compared to 33% with d6). Think of cast die as just a weapon like a staff or wand.

This continues all the way up to level 20, but you don’t gain spell slots when you gain a feat.

You have your prepared spell (you can’t overcast out of battle) and when you cast it, you expend that slot and can reroll. At level 5, 10, and 15 (see what I did there) you don’t expend level 1, 2, and 3 spell slots respectively, so they essentially become cantrips. At level 10, 15, and 20, you can use level 1, 2, and 3 spells as actual cantrips respectively, but you don’t reroll the cast die. This means if you want to save your big level 6 spell, you’re not completely locked out of spellcasting.

To properly define overcasting:

Overcast: you cannot cast spells (if you’re multiclassing, you cannot cast other class’ spells either). You can cast cantrips. Roll your cast die at the start of your turn, and lost overcast.

Level 1 spells are pretty basic, like “roll your cast die. Deal that amount of damage.”, or the level 3 “roll your cast die. That number of creatures in an 18m radius take 1d8 damage (plus 1d8 every 5 levels)”. Just spells with high variance. Higher level spells tap into the true potential of probability manipulation, like a level 4 “you and every creature in a 9m radius rolls your cast die (or equivalent). The creature(s) closest to your roll take damage equal to your roll. If it’s equal to what they rolled, this crits. If you rolled a 20, double the damage.” And a level 6 “choose a creature. Every d20 roll they make is a 20. Every d20 roll you make is a 1.”

good morning! today i want to talk about james potter.

(note: this is solely based on my interpretation of him, thr very same way other writers write james in their own way. this is the essay on how i see him, as a person, a writer, and someone who relates to him, and i am not implying that my characterization is better than someone else's; just my five cents on this!)

we're all aware of the general fandom consensus and characterization for him; sunshine boy, always willing to help everyone around him, never has any sort of problems and is often see through the prism of his relationships.

to start off with my last point, with him being seen and characterized through his relationships, i think it is tied to the fact that he, himself, sees himself that way. the relationships that he has with characters are often strong and intense, either like or dislike, and therefore, said relationships take a toll on him. he always surrounds himself with people, in order to not be alone with his thoughts, and have the time to see deep within him not what the world sees him to be, but what he really is, as imperfect as everyone else.

i also consider james to be the kind of person who runs away from his problems, and this is one of the fundamental differences that he and sirius have (while sirius confronts his problems — and the fact that he ran away from home is not running away from his problems, but actively confronting them. he ran away from home, his home life being a problem, which is exactly confronting it — meanwhile, james never confronts his problems because he's scared of the feelings that might be triggered in him in that case, he's scared of how deeply he feels things, and therefore he like busies himself with other people's feelings and other people's problems in order to not work on his own.).

this also plays into euphemia and fleamont's funeral. james was more focused on comforting the people around him about the death of his parents and not sitting down and thinking on his parents' death and allowing himself to grieve, because he was scared of the impact that it might have on him. (he had a son, and he had to be strong for him; which is also the tying himself to his relationship and putting other people above himself, his feelings, and his needs). after he did sit down on his problems, he started taking more missions and becoming more rash and being more reckless in general as a coping mechanism, which, in turn, hurt him.

moreover, him running away from his problems and helping other people instead of himself often times leaves him seeking something else in order to protect himself and to make himself forget everything he's thinking about; in some cases it may be quidditch, music, pranks, and, sometimes, more dsngerous things. he's a man of stability, in this regards, so therefore i don't thìnk he would do something as dangerous as to put the lives of himself and others in danger. (we see this with the prank; sirius is the one who takes rash decisions, james is the one who puts everything back together.).

james also suffers from savior complex. the criteria and definition for it is as follows "they only feel good about themselves when helping someone, believe helping others is their purpose, spend so much energy trying to fix others that they end up burning out", and "a savior complex, or white knight syndrome, describes this need to “save” people by fixing their problems". i see this more often than not played in jegulus fanfiction, but this behavior of his expands to other characters, too.

last but not least, and this is something i only see being talked about with sirius, respectively regulus, is the pressure put on one's shoulders to perform well when part of a circle of upper-class and talented people. his father invented multiple potions which significantly helped and improved the everyday lives of the wizarding world (i.e.: pepper-up). whether this pressure is put on by parents or yourself, the need to achieve as much as your parents did can both mess up the aspiring young person and burn them out. despite james being naturally talented, much like his parents, i feel like james definitely related to this pressure to perform.

so, in order to sum up; i believe that james potter, too, is a deeply complex and flawed individual, the very same way we believe of other characters to be. being a good person with a warm heart does not mean that one is always happy and that they are inherently a morally white character.
