BnHA Chapter 317: My Boy Was Just Like Me

Previously on BnHA: AFO randomly blew up Lady Nagant as a good reminder of why you should never make a deal with this fucking guy, smdh. Hawks was all “well if it isn’t my two best friends, Deku and Lady Nagant, both of whom I respect and love tremendously.” Everyone was all “??” and Horikoshi was all “shh... just pretend” because it was too embarrassing for him to admit that he forgot to write a couple of set-up flashbacks I guess. Anyway so Hawks got Lady to tell them where AFO was hiding out, and everyone said goodbye to her and Overhaul, who never did get to see his boss (sorry buddy, I’ll send you a vial of my tears in the mail), and headed out to a house in the woods. AFO was all “hello Deku :) :) it sure is fun making you suffer :) :) :) anyways this is a trap”, and blew up the house. Yeah, we all here are getting reaaaaaaaal tired of your shit, AFO.

Today on BnHA: The Hawksquad and Edgeplatoon meet in a warehouse and are all “what should we do about the fact that everything sucks?” Mt. Lady is all “here’s a thought, what if we tried battling AFO with more than six people.” Hawks and Endeavor are all “great initiative, but just a friendly reminder that our friends also suck and would probably betray Deku which would suck further still.” Shouto is all “ANSWER THE PHONE DAD” and Endeavor is all “[IRONICALLY DOESN’T ANSWER THE PHONE].” Meanwhile over in Sadtown, capital of Sadland Prefecture, Japan, Deku is all “All Might, as you can clearly see I am completely fine and good, never been better in fact, definitely not caught up in the throes of an epic mental breakdown which is shutting me down emotionally, anyway so on that note I would like to leave you now goodbye!!” All Might is all “[can’t actually form any words because he’s too distraught].” Fandom is all “o(╥﹏╥)o.” Horikoshi is all “(*＾-’) 乃 [pew pew finger guns and barrel rolls into the darkness].”

man there’s a lot of dialogue here and I’m trying to figure out where to insert commentary but it’s kinda difficult lol. basically, Edge and the others are saying that they should gather up the other remaining heroes and get them all caught up on the whole OFA situation. which, hmmmm

like on the one hand, these guys definitely aren’t going to cut it on their own, so it’s a reasonable suggestion on the face of it. but on the other hand, do we really want to entrust the OFA secret to a bunch of other people, most of whom shat the bed during the War arc to be quite frank? is it really worth the additional risk? especially given that any one of them might go spilling the beans to the public -- or worse, betray them to AFO??

also just a quick side note here, Mt. Lady’s character development never ceases to delight me. she’s become so committed to her responsibility as a hero these days, and it fucking suits her. I genuinely consider to be one of the elites now. I mean it doesn’t hurt that all the other elites are fucking dead lol but still

what breaks my heart here is All Might. All Might, and everything he’s been through, and history repeating itself, and forcing him to live this moment from both sides because he wasn’t strong enough to fix things.

Toshinori had only just turned eighteen when Nana died. like, I feel like we don’t mention this enough. the All Might we know is a sixty-something-year-old man, and so everyone always talks about him like he’s basically been an adult forever. but he was a child when he met Nana. and he was still just a child when she died. barely a year older than Deku is now. younger than Mirio was when we first met him.

and we don’t talk about that. we don’t talk about how devastating that was for him. and we don’t talk about how the reason he grew up to become so reserved and withdrawn -- for all that he always tried so hard to outwardly project the image of a bold, confident, smiling hero -- was specifically because of what AFO did to him. because AFO targeted him in the exact way that he is now targeting Deku. because that’s what he does. he goes after every new user of OFA, and he finds out what’s most important to them, and then he destroys it. and for Toshinori, that was Nana. if you’ve read All Might Rising, you know that AFO basically killed her in front of him (and only killed her, while letting Toshinori and Gran get away). Toshinori (while crying) later says she was like a mother to him. and interestingly enough, during this same conversation, Gran tells Toshinori that he can see “that madness in [his] eyes” when Toshi talks about becoming strong enough to defeat AFO. madness in his eyes. sound familiar??

what’s happening to Deku now is the exact same thing that happened to Toshinori when he was a boy. AFO tried every bit as hard to break him as he’s trying with Deku now. “the path you’ve chosen is a thorny one. every battle grinds away at your soul with no end in sight.” we don’t talk about how Toshinori experienced this same thing for forty fucking years. and all the while isolating himself, exactly like Deku is doing now. pushing people away, exactly like Deku. because he never had anyone who was able to reach out and pull him back. and those words that he now finds himself frozen and unable to speak -- “don’t push yourself”; “you can rest” -- are the same words that no one ever said to him until decades later, when it was already far too late to make any difference.

everything that Deku is experiencing now is what Toshinori also went through. and it’s only now, as he watches it happen to his student, the boy he loves like a son, that he’s finally starting to realize the full extent of how wrong it was. you shouldn’t have to fight alone. you shouldn’t have to bear that kind of enormous burden alone. you shouldn’t have to push yourself, and you can rest. you can rest.

but it’s too late. just as he’s finally coming to understand it all, it’s all too fucking late. and he can’t say the words, he doesn’t know how to say the words, and then just like that, Deku is gone.

and he’s alone. again.)

Things I want to see in the future of MHA

(not just post-war stuff, but also the entire series. Some of these are kinda self-indulgent)

1. Endeavor and Hawks’ judgment

I honestly don’t know if I want to see them punished or pardoned. I’m interested in both of those so I’ll just trust Horikoshi on that one. But anyways, there’s no way they aren’t getting shit for this.

2. Whatever the ‘fake heroes’ are gonna do after this

Going back to Stain’s ideology about fake heroes. I agree with parts of it, there are a lot of people that become heroes without the conviction. They get into it by treating it the same way as any other office job, not as a mission to be well, heroes. But I don’t agree that they should be killed or eliminated. Being a hero for money isn’t inherently a bad thing, it’s when you let greed take over you to the point that you forget what it means to be a hero. Some of those ‘fake heroes’ like Mt. Lady who was originally in it for the fame and money have grown to become real heroes. Others who really have zero conviction, will probably quit after facing this amount of despair, like the guy in chapter 296.

3. The Todoroki family’s image

How will everyone else see the victims of the situation, Natsuo, Fuyumi, Rei and Shoto after this? Especially Shoto. Now that his past is out in the public, that will probably affect his future as a pro. Would his classmates and peers see him or treat him differently after this? Like out of pity or sympathy?

4. The public’s backlash in general

How will the public start viewing not just Endeavor, Hawks, and the Todoroki family, but all heroes? Will they lose faith in heroes? We know they kinda already are when UA had a lot of backlash when Bakugo was kidnapped. UA as well, will it get shut down?

5. Bakudeku’s talk

I don’t think their relationship is actually gonna stay the same after this whole ‘my body moved on its own because I care for you and wanted to save you so I just got stabbed and risked my life for you and even told you to stop trying to be so selfless and do everything by yourself’ thing. All Might also did foreshadow that they were gonna talk soon. Maybe we could get the long awaited Bakugo apology scene ? Though it feels way too soon. And if Hori feeds us Bakudekus even more I think we’re just gonna combust.

5. Deku’s character development

His mindset and view of the world will probably be way darker and even more serious after this. I also want to see how Bakugo getting hurt for his sake and saying “don’t play hero all by yourself” will affect him. We know that he has decided to become a hero that wouldn’t make anyone worry about him when he had a flashback of his mom crying and being worried for him. He decided that the solution to that is to be stronger, but now maybe he can learn that selflessness doesn’t necessarily mean that he has to carry all the weight by himself. But then there’s the 4th user’s quirk that will probably push him to be even more selfless.

6. Ochako’s development

Please please PLEASE let this girl have more development. The way her fight against Toga ended, and her seeing the grievous side of being a hero? Probably a set up for her development.

7. Basically the rest of the kids’ development?

Obviously it’s not just the people involved in the fight against Shigaraki, or Ochako that are gonna view the world differently after this. I wanna see how they will deal with this. Kirishima and Mina will probably be some of the highlights. Also Momo, since Midnight meant a lot to her when she was the one that trusted Momo to lead their classes in the battle against Gigantomachia.

8. Aizawa and Present Mic dealing with Midnight’s death

Those two are especially highlighted amongst all of the other UA staff members because they have a past with her, as shown in vigilantes. We saw their anger and sadness about Shirakumo, what more when it comes to Midnight?

9. The villains dealing with their losses

Yes, know Toga went on a rampage after Twice’s death, but how will she and deal with it in the long run? How about losing Mr. Compress? How will Shigaraki react to both of those, and having the other Paranormal Liberation Front members like Geten captured? Not just emotionally, but how about the loss in terms of strength and power?

10. Prison break arc

People have been talking about this for years, maybe ever since we knew All for One was only imprisoned and not killed. We’ll probably see it happen next chapter. Will it cause the public to lose even more faith in the hero system? How will it affect the villains? Will AFO be their boss now, or will they resist him and stay loyal to Shigaraki?

11. All for One vs Shigaraki

Related to the previous point. We know Shigaraki really doesn’t want AFO bossing him around. They’ll probably have a fight. Maybe Deku and Shigaraki vs AFO? Then they’ll go back to fighting each other once the common threat is gone. This doesn’t feel very likely, but it could be a way of interpreting Deku’s “you looked like you needed saving” at the end of chapter 295.

11. Deku’s arms?

I don’t know if I want him to lose them and get prosthetics, or get healed by Eri. It would be great to see him experience a major loss, but ability-wise and emotionally? Not so good for him, though that’s kinda the point. Also he might not be able to use OFA in his arms anymore and I kinda don’t wanna see that. Even if he can, will he be able to use it at 100%? So far, we’ve seen that the level of technology in MHA aren’t enough to withstand 100%

12. Deku mastering One for All

I wanna see him consistently use 100% without injuring himself. I want to see him do more with black whip, float and the fourth user’s quirk. I’m also curious about the other three quirks left.

13. Power buff for everyone else

I kinda don’t wanna see the MC getting so ahead of everyone else, to the point that they leave everyone else in the dust. But I know that it’s been established way earlier on that Deku will surpass everyone in terms of strength. Even now, Bakugo, one of the strongest in Class 1-A could barely catch up with 30% OFA. But from his internal dialogue in chapter 293, I’m guessing he already had a quirk evolution when he saw Deku at the verge of death. I want to see more details on that though.

14. Everyone else’s reaction to Bakugo’s sacrifice

It’s gonna be a big thing for his character and all, but I don’t think this is gonna happen because of well, everything else being a mess. But maybe at least All Might’s?

15. Deku’s father

I don’t want him to be a really big famous, important figure, or someone involved in this whole AFO vs OFA stuff. It will kinda ruin Deku’s character of like, ‘just an ordinary boy that was lucky and so his character arc is to be worthy of that blessing’. If Deku’s father was someone like that, that would mean he was the fated or chosen one in the first place anyways? But what else can Deku’s dad be? I honestly don’t know.

16. All Might’s death

I see so many people complain that he should’ve died in Kamino, but I disagree because saving that big moment for later was actually a good decision. We know he’s gonna die, he has death flags everywhere. But I wonder how exactly he will die, when he will die, and how big of an impact his death will have.

17. The final battle

As in, the last battle of the entire series. Deku vs Shigaraki rematch, Ochako vs Toga, Shoto vs Dabi. And for Bakugo, well...... he doesn’t really have a villain nemesis? (Huh maybe I’ll talk about that some other time) But the best I could think of right now is Bakugo and Deku vs Shigaraki, like in Heroes Rising. If the Heroes Rising ending was the original series ending, maybe Hori was hinting that Bakugo and Deku will be fighting the final boss together?

18. Bakugo and Deku as a hero duo

Related to the previous point. Shipping lenses aside, I think there’s plenty of foreshadowing for that? Even if they wouldn’t officially be hero partners, I’m guessing they’re both gonna be important pillars. “Win to save, save to win”

19. The ending

I want to see how they will fix the broken hero society. I want to see Class 1-A as wonderful heroes. I want satisfying closure for the villains as well. What I don’t want to see is everyone getting married and having kids like Naruto, and those kids being the characters for a sequel series. I’m sorry but as much as I like a lot of the ships, I think that’s probably one of the worst endings possible. But a next generation sequel actually wouldn’t be that bad if the main characters were the established kid characters we already know and love, Eri, Kota, Katsuma and Mahoro. We can see through them how the new hero system/society works, and maybe all the smaller subtle stuff that they still need to patch up. Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything else good about it.

20. Deku becoming the greatest hero

Also very much related to the previous point but I only remembered it afterwards. We know it’s gonna happen, but how? Also notice that while Bakugo always says ‘number one hero’, Deku always just says ‘greatest hero’, which kinda aren’t the same thing. Maybe it’s just cuz I’m a Bakugo stan, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to just let the rival characters be content with number two? Either ‘Bakugo is the number one in ranking while Deku is the greatest hero’, or ‘Deku is the greatest and number one hero but their rivalry hasn’t ended and it’s a push-pull’ thing. Or just kill one of them (cough Bakugo cough) and it’ll be fine.

21. Other people finding out about OFA

I don't think it's going to stay a secret between Deku, Bakugo and All Might anymore. At the very least, the people involved in the fight against Shigaraki, like Shoto, Aizawa and Endeavor should be given an explanation on why Shigaraki was targeting Deku in particular. At worst, it becomes public news and Deku will now have to deal with a much a greater pressure of everyone expecting him to take up All Might's mantle. Villain stans seriously mad that the heroes win, like heroes do,,,,in every hero story ever...ASESFCHJYU I'm really curious to how exactly they wanted this arc to end. Like they're the main fucking characters? lmao they can't all die??

mmm...although to be fair, are the heroes even winning?

the villains have...lost twice. thats it, one known, named casualty. and of course, twice will have more impact because there are less known villains compared to heroes. there’s mr. compress, but we dont know if he’ll die, escape or be caught.

the heroes might capture the villains, or maybe they’ll escape, but i wouldnt really count it as a win for the heroes...

they’ve suffered a lot more losses. we’ve seen several heroes die - and although many were unnamed, there are also many heroes we know of with unknown whereabouts, possibly dead (thirteen, the pussycats ect). we have many heroes who have pretty horrendous injuries (mirko, aizawa, gran torino, hawks, endeavor, ryukyu, midnight, mt lady)

the rest of top 10 is all either dead, unknown or will be out of commission after this arc. the only possible exception to this is best jeanist, and even then he isn’t fully recovered from kamino.

hawks killing twice, and his heritage was revealed, portrayed in a way that made him come off as cold and heartless.

endeavor’s abusive history was also exposed.

not to mention the ua students, currently the only school (we know of) who put children into that kind of danger. and as far as we know, three critically injured students.

it’ll leave civilians to once again question heroes (which they’ve done before), and as dabi wanted, for them to think more critically. while some of dabi’s talk can be written off as lies, due to best jeanist being alive, a good chunk of what he said will be questioned.

heroes don’t need to die for villains to ‘win’. villains will get what they’ve wanted, to have hero society in shambles. hero society wont immediately crumble after this arc...but it’ll start speeding up the process. this will be like a final big blow, because many of the previous arcs have built up to its eventual downfall.

i also think people took the “and heroes disappeared from the streets” as post-war arc...when its obviously for before the war.

the villains wont win in the way a lot of people are expecting i guess, and honestly its not horikoshi’s fault they had expectations that didn’t align with what he’s going for.

Chapter 259: In which Kaminari misses his friends

Everyone’s already talked a ton about this frame. Suffice to say that Endeavor seems to have made good on his pledge to get a new house for his family where Rei could join them.  Endeavor may be storming Ujiko/Shiga’s hospital, but in the background his family is settling into their new life. Things aren’t looking good for Endeavor.

Holy shit, Doctor Deranged is quirkless??? Speaking of Ujiko/Shiga, he reminds me of all those Silicon Valley execs who quietly took buy-outs and then became professional “philanthropists.” Gross. There’s a controversy about Horikoshi’s decision to use the name “Maruta” because of its association with horrific Japanese war crimes during World War II.  Also, as everyone knows, Ujiko/Shiga is the guy who diagnosed Midoriya as being quirkless. Can’t help but wonder whether there is a destined meeting between those. Not sure if Midoriya would remember him, but I’m pretty sure Ujiko would remember Midoriya. And what would he think when he realizes Midoriya has a quirk after all?

Nice to see the police represented here in addition to the heroes. Way back when, when All Might told Midoriya that he could join the police, it became obvious why that was a no-go as the story progressed. The police tend to be literal extras, with the exception of Tsukauchi and Sansa (Are there other police with speaking lines?)

This picture makes me gives me a sense about why the international community is so incensed about Horikoshi’s decision to use the name Maruta. Besides being visually sickening, it is a tangible reminder of the human experimentation/desecration that Ujiko practices. Also, this is the warp guy I guess?

No wonder all the heroes are gone. Looks like they want to rid Japan of all the big baddies in one fell swoop. Hope they’re not overreaching…

Endeavor’s group has no students. The vanguard of the group storming the PLF only has a few students, while most of the students are in the rear guard except for those with Burnin. Ms. Joke’s here, which makes me wonder if the Ketsubutsu students are participating. Love Fatgum’s tough love with Amijiki. Also nice to see one of my faves, Gang Orca.

Haha, Kaminari’s utter honesty in the face of terror. His position is also probably a sign that he’s more powerful than he thinks. IIRC Kaminari interned with Mt. Lady along with Sero and Mineta. Kaminari’s with the Lurkers, though, and Sero and Mineta are off with the rear guard.

This panel is just cool. It’s great to see 1-A and 1-B together.

The rest of the country must be getting some weakass heroes, because anyone who’s anyone is either storming the hospital, storming the PLF headquarters, or doing whatever Midoriya and Co. are up to. Also Fatgum’s and Amijiki’s expressions.

Endeavor cares about Hawks!

It’s not clear to me where exactly this group is.

It’s interesting that people are actually excited to see Endeavor. It will make his inevitable downfall even more devastating to the public. The guy in the lower left must be the spy who figured out about the secret lab.

I like how we see Endeavor and Aizawa confronting the doctor. Endeavor looks…terrifying. And we know Aizawa is just a little angry.

This last panel. Chilling. Can’t wait to see the colored versions. I’m very curious as to what is going to happen to the Devil’s Minion. If he’s captured, it basically means that Shigaraki is only half-baked, and there will be no more new nomus. Though we don’t know how many nomus currently exist, capping their population can only benefit the heroes. I wonder why Shiga thought his position was so secure that he swanned around in public “saving” harvesting orphans and elders. He put his lab in his own goddamn hospital. Surely someone would become suspicious. He is one arrogant asshole.

a/n: hello! this is chapter five of “starving artist” and i really hope you guys are enjoying it so far (i really enjoy writing it!).

Shota had never seen you so stressed before. You were pacing from one end of the backyard to the other, frantically decorating the yard for Midnight's surprise party. It was being held at Hizashi's house because he wants to put his pool to good use, and DJ for the party of course. You were attaching streamers with haste, trying to make everything look perfect.

"Y/n, you don't have to hurry so much," Shota said walking towards you.

You shook your head and continued your quick pace.

"Shota I'm not even dressed yet and the party is in two hours. Plus I have to pick up the cake and-"

He cut you off, gently taking the streamers from your hand.

"You look fine, and two hours is plenty of time to finish."

You looked down at your hoodie and shorts. Your hair was tied up messily and your dark circles were bright from late nights of painting.

"Shota, I look like death."

Frankly, he couldn't care less. It was refreshing for him to see you out of your work clothes. While he adored seeing you in your classic flowy skirt, blouse, and smock, his eyes practically bugged out of his head when he saw you wearing skinny jeans and a crop top the day before. Something about how calm and unbothered you looked was so incredibly attractive to him.

He gave you a soft smile.

"You brought your stuff to get ready right?"

You nodded, gesturing to the bag sitting inside Hizashi's home.

"Go get ready, I'll pick up the cake and finish up here. We're almost done anyway, and besides, we're almost done."

You sighed, pulling him into a tight hug.

"You're actually the best. You know that right?" You looked up at him, your chin resting on his chest. He let go of you, quickly trying to hide his blush.

"It's nothing, now go get ready," He gave you another small smile as you skipped inside to go get ready.

He sighed, continuing to put up the streamers, this time with a bit more speed. The house was empty except for the two of you. Hizashi had to finish his shift at the radio station before he could pick up Midnight and bring her to the party. So, for now, it was just the two of you until the other party attendees showed up.

Once Shota had finished setting up the yard, he pulled out his phone to check the time.

"Shit!" He hurried inside to grab his keys, only an hour left before people would start showing up. The bakery shop was 25 minutes away, so he needed to hurry. He was running through the house when he came to a halt. You were singing. He could hear it above the sound of the shower you were taking.

Slowly, he leaned his head against the wall, smiling to himself hearing your melodic voice. He heard the shower shut off and pulled away quickly. He began to walk off when you peeped your head out.

"Shota!!!"

He cleared his throat and walked back over, "You okay?"

Your face was beet red, and he tried his best not to look at your wet body from behind the door.

"I-I forgot a towel," you whispered embarrassedly.

"I'll get you one," Shota answered, hurrying to the laundry room to get you a fresh one. You bit your lip impatiently. He came back and handed the towel to you, looking away bashfully as you wrapped it around yourself.

"Thank you, Shota, I don't know what I'd do without you." You stood on your tiptoes, gently placing a thankful peck on his cheek.

He cleared his throat once again, his face turning just as red as yours.

"N-no problem, I'm going to go get the cake now."

"Oh good, okay!"

You closed the door and leaned against it and heaved out a heavy sigh. Your crush on Shota was getting harder to hide by the day. You dried yourself off, anxious thoughts filling your head.

What if he only considers me as an acquaintance..

Maybe kissing him was too much, I probably made him so uncomfortable...

God, he probably thinks I'm so annoying and clingy....

You proceeded to blow dry your hair Even if it was going to get messed up and wet in the pool, it was a party for the Midnight. A ton of pro-heroes would be there, and you had to look presentable. After finishing your blowout, you applied some light makeup, making sure it was waterproof. You have a feeling Hizashi is going to try his best to push you in the pool when you're not looking.

You shimmied on your swimsuit and slipped a maxi dress with a high thigh slit on. You slipped on your platform sandals, ruffled your hair, and walked out. You went back out to the yard to organize the cooler full of alcoholic beverages and filled the bowls with chips and fruit. You got back to setting the cheese platter when Shota walked in holding the cake.

"Oh, perfect you're back!" You beamed, taking the cake from his hands and setting it in the kitchen. Once the cake was removed from his view, Shota got a good look at you. And man, did you look good. He raked his eyes up and down your body while you continued laying out the different kinds of fancy cheesed you had bought. You hummed happily.

"Do you think a lot of pro-heroes are going to come?" You asked him while walking outside to set the cheese platter on the table with the rest of the snacks. He followed behind you with the cake and set it down.

"Probably, Midnight is a pretty popular hero."

"I know...I just don't want to embarrass myself, I guess. I mean, I'm just an art teacher at UA."

Shota turned to you to see you biting your thumb nervously.

"Hey," he said, gently taking your hand away from your mouth. "They'll love you. Who wouldn't?"

You blushed and looked up at him. He was in his swim trunks and a t-shirt, his hair tied in a messy bun. If you weren't so nervous about exposing your feelings, you probably would've jumped him right then and there.

Just then the doorbell rang, Shota leaving you to go get the door. Your eyes widened, several pro-heroes walking inside. You recognized the group as All Might, Hawks, Fat Gum, Mt. Lady, and Best Jeanist. Your chest tightened at the sight of them. Shoto greeted them with polite hugs and walked them over to you.

"This is y/n, she did the bulk of the work getting this party set up."

You blushed and shook your head, "No no, you and Hizashi helped me plenty."

"Y/N!" All Might boomed. "Long time no see! How are you liking UA?"

"Oh I love it, some students are a bit wild but I really do love teaching them."

The heroes nodded and smiled. Some of them scattered around the house. Mt. Lady turned to you and pinched your cheeks.

"Aren't you just the cutest thing!"

You gently swatted her hands away, "Heh, thanks?"

Hawks rolled his eyes, "C'mon Yu, don't bother her." He gave you a wink and pulled her away and outside.

Soon enough more heroes came. Endeavor, Mirko, Kamui Woods, Ryuko, and even Principle Nezu. The house was soon filled with laughter and chatter.

Your phone chimed, HIzashi texting that he was pulling into the neighborhood.

"They're here!" You yelled, the heroes beginning to scatter and hide. You snuck behind the counter, Shota sneaking beside you. You smiled at him, as he scooted closer to not be seen. He looked at the drawers and cabinets in front of him, whisperings quietly.

"You look really pretty by the way."

You bit your lip and smiled, blushing profusely.

"Thank you, you don't look too bad yourself," you snickered quietly. He rolled his eyes, the sound of the front door opening causing you to grip Shota's arm. He gulped at your touch, but you were too focused on counting down in your head to notice.

One.

Two.

Three.

"SURPRISE!!" The heroes jumped up and cheered. You looked to see Midnight, whose wide eyes were filled with shock and joy.

"Oh my goodness!! Is this for me?!" The group nodded, causing Midnight to squeal and jump in excitement.

You giggled and turned to Shota, whispering.

"Good job."

"Me? You're the one who made it perfect," He grinned.

Fat Gum bellowed as he splashed into the pool. He joined Mt. Lady, Midnight, Ryuko, Kamui Woods, and Principle Nezu. They all cheered at the massive splash he created. You giggled, slipping off your platform sandals and slipping off your maxi dress, revealing your tight swimsuit.

Hizashi whistled lowly, watching as you stepped into the pool.

"Don't whistle at her like she's a dog," Shota grumbled, taking a sip of his beer.

"Oh, but can you blame him?" Hawks responded before biting his fist. "Her body is crazy."

Shota downed his beer, hoping a buzz would help him relax. From his fellow heroes' crude words to how insanely good you looked, he felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest. He swiftly left and grabbed another beer, coming back to the conversation.

"So...is she single?" Hawks questioned, pushing his sunglasses upon his head to get a better view of you.

"Yeah, I hope. I'm planning on asking her out. Grab some drinks, bring her home, fuck hopefully," Hizashi snickered. Hawks clinked his beer glass with Hizashi's, a sly smile on his face.

Shota felt disgusted, angry, and ashamed. Disgusted that his best friend would talk about you that way. That you were just a screw to please himself and move on. Angry that now both Hawks and Hizashi were drooling over you. And ashamed that he too had several thoughts of what having sex with you would be like.

"Well if you don't ask her out soon, I will," Hawks said, his wings opening with power.

"Hey, chill out country fried chicken," Hizashi said, swatting Hawk's wings away. "Watch me."

Shota watched in horror as Hizashi jumped into the pool and made his way towards you.

You tossed the beach ball to Fat Gum, jumping when Hizashi places his hand on your lower back.  

"Oh! Oh, hey Hizashi!" You turned and gave him a closed-eyed smile.

"Y/n, you did amazing. This party is actually perfect!" Hizashi beamed.

"Thank you, but you helped me so much! I mean, your house is the best venue."

He laughed, slipping his arm around your shoulder. You look up at him, your ears getting hot.

"Seriously though, you did amazing. Can I repay you by taking you to dinner?"

You blinked. Were you so clueless and infatuated with Shota to notice that Hizashi was into you?

"O-oh um, sure!" You smiled, reaching up to cover your cheeks to hide your blush. You felt embarrassed. Had you never realized the countless times Hizashi was flirting? Or did he consider your kind personality flirting too?

He gave you a toothy grin, swiftly cupping your face in his large hands, and pecked your lips.

You stared at him with wide eyes while Shota stared in horror. You turned around, your face a bright shade of red, and slipped further into the deep end of the pool. You made your way to Midnight, whispering the sudden events in her ear, her eyes widening with every word.

Hizashi turned in Hawks and Shota's direction, making a thrusting motion with his hips and arms.

Fuck. I think I'm going to be sick.

With that thought, Shota turned and made his way into Hizashi's kitchen, ignoring the beer and going directly to the whiskey.

BnHA Chapter 279: Here Comes the Airplane

Previously on BnHA: Gigantomachia gathered up the rest of the League and headed off to go help Tomura. Also he is now 80 feet tall. The heroes were all, “whoa this guy is really big, we should probably stop him and maybe even devote an entire chapter or two just to that,” and so they sent three whole people after him, which sadly is pretty much the exact sort of strategy I’ve come to expect from them by this point. Anyway so Mt. Lady tried to hold Machia off but kept getting flung aside, and Kamui Woods tried to catch him but was set on fire by Dabi who is just having way too good of a time setting all of the flammable heroes on fire today, and Midnight tried to put him to sleep but Compress threw a bunch of debris at her and so she fell like 80 feet. The chapter ended with Midnight being all “fuck this” and calling Momo, who ordered the rest of the child soldier squad into action as Machia approached. I’m not really sure what they’re gonna do, but I honestly don’t really care, because it’s Momo, and so, YES.

Today on BnHA: U.A.’s first-year hero students, who apparently had nine hours to prepare their battleground instead of the fifteen seconds we had all assumed, launch a complex multi-staged assault which is actually really fucking impressive because these kids are actually awesome. First they pin Machia down in one of Honenuki’s mud pits, and then they take turns making impassioned attempts to take out the other League members chilling out on Machia’s back. Unfortunately none of these attempts work because of Dabi, who’s working overtime while the rest of the League sits around shooting down each other’s escape plans. Basically a lot of stuff gets set on fire, and then the chapter ends with Mt. Lady pinning Machia to the ground while MINA, YES, MINA, charges at him covered in acid like some sort of video game boss that you need some kind of specific item to defeat. DID YOU KNOW YESTERDAY WAS MINA’S BIRTHDAY YOU GUYS. Anyway so this chapter is basically pandemonium from start to finish, and it’s great. It is a RUMPUS, y'all. A STRAIGHT UP HULLABALOO.

or did Horikoshi actually get three quarters of the way through writing this arc and then suddenly slap his forehead as he realized that if Monoma just casually copied Machia’s powers he would either DIE IMMEDIATELY or else become SUPER STRONG and also grow 80 feet tall and this would suddenly be a very different battle with the scales tipping decidedly in the heroes’ favor. and so he had to quickly write him out of the battle in this very half-assed way

anyway, so while I ponder that, Tokage is peeking the top of her head out over the trees and staring at Machia who is, you guessed it, still heading right their way! just like he’s been doing pretty much this entire time

and now there’s a whole page of reaction panels you guys. this is why Horikoshi tries to avoid these massive Endgame-style battles with every single hero known to man participating. hopefully we won’t have too many of these. like I mean thank you for the roll call and all but I’d like to get to the action now

Mineta of all people is stealing this entire page with that expression though. he is not fucking around. this is twice in as many chapters that he’s been a page-stealing face-making champ. dare I hope this could be the start of a new niche for him? lord knows it would be so much better than the old niche

BnHA Chapter 242: SANTA IS REAL

Previously on BnHA: We said farewell to the League of Pliff and were finally reunited with the kids of U.A., an institution which I would just like to point out is so diametrical to the League that they literally took the polar opposite route when choosing their name, and focused only on the acronym. I’m 100% sure U.A. doesn’t even stand for anything. Anyway, so Bakugou and Todoroki went on whirlwind press tour following their ch 219 antics, and the resulting interviews were so disastrous that Aizawa decided to bring in Mt. Lady to give the whole class a crash course in PR 101. Meanwhile All Might scoured Ancestry.com for info on the past users of OFA, and Rat Principal announced that U.A. was going to resume its internship program. This is great news for Deku, who’s been taking his sweet time mastering Blackwhip. Like, we’re not even talking baby steps here so much as little tiny flea steps. Kid’s going to need all the help he can get.

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi targets all of my weak points at once. The My OT3 Academia arc gets off to an incredible, award-winning start with a Christmas party and the announcement of Internships 2: This Time, it’s Compulsory. Highlights include: (1) Kaminari and Mina forcing Bakugou to accept the spirit of Christmas into his heart and soul, (2) Iida rocking a Santa beard, (3) Eri holding a giant sword, (4) Bakugou reminiscing about his internship with Best MIA Jeanist, specifically the part where Jeanist was all “A HERO’S NAME IS REALLY IMPORTANT AND SYMBOLIC AND MEANINGFUL, SO YOU NEED TO THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT IT” and oh my fucking god, and lastly (5) Todoroki inviting Bakugou and Deku to come intern with him at the Endeavor Hero Agency (known for its famous business slogan: “Got Plot?”). It’s like I wished on seventeen different falling stars and they all came true at once. I still can’t even fucking process this. kfkdslgk.

can someone please tell me what the PSC’s goals actually are, then? is this not the same group that recently changed the rules of the provisional license exam so that an even smaller percentage of people would pass? so do you want more heroes or fewer? which is it?

how do they cope with it? does anyone even have any idea?? it seems to me like they’re just throwing them to the wolves. we have this problem that we have absolutely no idea what to do about, oh I know, let’s toss a bunch of inexperienced kids at it. and hope that none of them gets murdered I guess

anyway so The Sheriff is speculating that the League must have been involved in the Deika situation, and he’s wondering why the PSC is trying so hard to keep it on the dl

oh yeah. friendly reminder that the PSC, thanks to Hawks, probably knows exactly how powerful Tomura and the League have recently become. so they know full well how shark-infested the waters are, and they’re making it mandatory for the kids to all take swimming lessons. nice

lol back when I was brainstorming ideas for future arcs, I seriously thought Horikoshi would have to go out of his way to come up with excuses for the kids to have future encounters with the League, because the school was so concerned with their safety that they wouldn’t allow them to leave the grounds except on rare occasions. well I sure got that one wrong. though to be fair, for once it isn’t U.A. that’s doing the child endangering here

(ETA: and actually, regardless of how insane it is, I do appreciate that when shit inevitably hits the fan again, at least it won’t be U.A.’s fault this time.
