He checks the kitchen window a couple times before the white roses displayed there remind him of something. Then, he understands.
Karen must have seen the news about his escape, and put the roses in the window for him.
It’s a contract that’s older than the world. It’s older than his life that, for the past thirteen years, has been spent in prison. And he has no right to breach that contract.

Gojo x wife reader request
Gojo’s wife has always been calm and collected despite any situation. She treats both the first and second years as if they were her own. When the elders call her in for a meeting about the first and second years she gets protective and reminds them why she’s called the White Snake Sorceress.
Hehe this was so fun to write, we love a strong and badass woman who takes no shit! Let me know what you think <3
Gojo's sweet wife showing her maniac side when it comes to protecting her precious students
Tumblr media
Pairing: Gojo x wife!reader; wife!reader x students
Word Count: 1,5k
Synopsis: Despite Gojo's wife spoke vehemently against sending the first and second years on a way too difficult mission, the elders decided against her suggestion. Her calm and collected self changes drastically when she makes them regret their decicion...
Warnings: Gojo's wife being a menance to Jujutsu High elders lol, langugage, violence, Satoru Gojo enjoying every second of it, reader being like a mum, this is just pure comforting entertainment so enjoy hehe
„Hey darling, what are you up to this morning?”, your beloved husband mutters against your ear.
Shivers of comfort run down your spine immediately, you can’t help but embrace the love of your life with your arms wide open. Words can’t express how much you love Satoru Gojo, the man who stole your heart a long time ago and is now your husband. To this day you can’t put a finger on why he chose you. You, a calm and collected woman. You, who always keeps a cool head in every situation. You, who many people like Nanami describe as the complete opposite of him. But somehow you make it work. And god, how good it feels to wake up in his arms and greet him at Jujutsu High all over again.
“Oh, I was actually looking for my students. I haven’t seen any of them this morning, even though Maki usually goes for a run around this time”, you reply, face scrunched up in confusion.
You always cared for your students as if they were your own kids and Satoru can’t help but love you even more for it. The way you seem to know every minor detail about them, how you treat every single one with so much care while still teaching them hand to hand combat like none other, how they look up to you. It’s not a secret to anyone at Jujutsu High that your students love you just as much as you love them – even Megumi can’t escape a small smile as soon as you enter the room.
Knowing that, Satoru needs to swallow hard. Oh, you will totally go crazy if you hear where they are…Should he even tell you? Wouldn’t it be fun to let the elders deal with you? He knows how much you can change from your calm and collected self into a maniac if it comes to your precious students.
“Well, about that…”, he mumbles, scratching the back of his head just like Megumi does when he’s uncomfortable.
Your eyes dart towards him immediately, arms crossed in front of your chest. The face your husband makes doesn’t mean anything good, that’s for sure. Just a few days ago you talked for hours with the director and the elders about a potential mission for your first and seconds years. It would have been today if you aren’t mistaken. And all of them aren’t around…Your hands clench into fists, gaze piercing through him without any mercy.
“The elders decided on carrying out the mission despite your disapproval. Out students are on the way to where the special grade was last seen.”
“Is that so, huh.”
Your eyes darken in an instant, your cute and feminine features change so drastically that Satoru himself has to blink a few times. That causes trouble. And he’s totally here for it.
“Thank you for telling me, love. I will go and have a little talk with them.”
With a last soft kiss on his cheek you move towards the main building, towards the disgusting people who risk the lives of their students like there’s no tomorrow. Anger rises up inside your veins and almost takes your sight. You explained them over and over that a special grade curse along with who knows how much other strong curses is too much for only students to handle. Especially after they had to work so much lately, after they’ve been through hell and back, they aren’t capable of doing that alone. But instead of sending your husband and yourself like you suggested, they simply ignored your advice and sent them away without letting you know.
Enough of being kind and collected. You’ll show them a side of you they haven’t seen yet.
“What are you doing here, Gojo?”, Yaga Masamichi questions when catching a glimpse of you.
His heart stops for the split of a second. The way your stone-cold eyes dart towards him, your fists hanging unpromising down your body, your straight and confident walk…
No, he has never seen you like this. What happened that made you this mad?
“Are you responsible for the first and seconds years going on that suicide mission?”
While your voice does sound as collected as usual, the look on your face and how you position yourself in front of him tell otherwise. Of course, he is aware of the fact that you care about your students as if they’re your own children, but still…
“Me along with the elders. And as a teacher of Jujutsu High you are advised to accept that decision”, he replies without thinking twice.
You nod briefly, taking in his disrespectful words. Throughout all this time you taught here at Jujutsu High, you never lost your temper once, not even on the battlefield. You were always able to keep yourself together, no matter how rough the situation was. But this, the fact that they play with the lives of your beloved students like with dolls truly tests your patience to the brink.
“Follow me to meet them.”
You know exactly where does old farts are. Sitting on their asses in the room on the end of the hallway, drinking tea while deciding on the lives of others.
“Wait, you can’t just stomp in there”, the director shouts after you.
But you couldn’t care less. With a swift motion you swing the door open, exposing them sitting down just like you imagined.
“Satoru Gojo’s wife? What are you doing here? We didn’t ask you to come”, one of them barks at you.
“You all are aware of the fact that I could kill every single one of you without even blinking, right?”
Deadly silence hangs in the air, all pairs of eyes set on you in utter disbelief.
“(y/n)”, Yaga Masamichi breathes out behind you, the words that just left your mouth being so unusual for you.
What happened to the sweetheart of woman you are, the gentle smile that’s always plastered on your face, your calm and collected character of gold?
“And still, you foolishly decided on sending my students away. Into their certain death”, you continue.
It takes all of your strength to not lunge yourself at them. Who do they think they are to play with your student’s life like that? Aren’t they aware of the psychical damage that was done to Yuji when he fought against that special grade along with Nanami only a few days ago, when Nobara and Megumi almost lost their lives if it wasn’t for Shoko?
“I know how much you care about your students, but this is-“
“Shut up”, you hiss through gritted teeth at the man standing in the door.
“You will call my husband here and tell him to support my students within this difficult task. You will send both of us after them to make sure that no one gets hurt because all of them have been through enough horror the last weeks.”
“And what if we don’t? You are nothing but a teacher, no matter how strong you are and who your husband is”, the oldest of them interrupts you rudely.
The clicking of your heels against the ground runs shivers down their spine while you elegantly make your way towards the man with long white hair who spoke to you so foolishly. Before anyone in the room is able to react, you grab his throat and yank him upwards, head meeting the cold wall behind him.
“Then you will experience yourself why I’m called the snake sorceress. Do you know about the deadliest snake in the world? The inland taipan can send up to 230 humans 6 feet underground with a single bite. Be aware of the fact that I am able to wipe out this whole room without even blinking. Don’t ignore me when it comes to my students ever again or I’ll show you than I’m capable of more than smiling gently.”
You let go of him roughly, wiping your hands on your uniform.
“I expect your call within the next 5 minutes. And please inform my husband about your decision as well”, you announce into the room with your usual calm voice.
Without sending them a single look, you leave the room and building behind, humming to yourself while holding your face into the sun. Yes, that definitely felt good. Maybe that was enough to make them learn their lesson. You might be gentle, but you aren’t a special grade sorcerer out of nowhere.
“Look who’s there, the woman who just threatened the higher ups of Jujutsu High all on her own. Did you really choke that man?”
Your husband grins at you widely, his blindfold already taken off. You simply shrug your shoulders and smile at him.
“Apparently I was able to convince them somehow. Come on, we should get going. I hope all of them are alright…”
“With a mum like you, they’ll definitely be.”
Your head darts towards your husband warningly, hands holding onto his shoulders.
“Don’t say it like that, I’m their teacher”, you clarify.
“And you care about them as if they were your own kids.”
“Well, someone has to do this, right?”, you reply with a cheeky smile before rushing to aid your students.
Hopefully they’ll never forget the lesson you taught them today.

*spoilers for One Day*
For people saying ‘it’s tragic, Dex and Em only got 3 years together’ no. They got 15 years together.
Glossing over the span of their life together to sum it up as ‘only 3 years together’ misses all the love and time they had together that wasn’t solely romantic.
Why is their relationship only ‘important’ or ‘counts’ when it’s a romantic one? Maybe there was always romantic love buried in there or growing steadily but there was a whole lot of platonic love there too.
For 15 years they were the most important person in the world to one another, they described each other as their ‘best friend’ and the person they reached out to at every high and low moment. And for the last 3 of those years they were also a couple.
There are loads of examples of Dex reaching out to Em when he’s at his lowest: the last birthday with his mum, then he’s reeling from his divorce, when he’s scared people will hate him on TV. And you *could* read that as pathetic and Em being his emotional crutch, with Dex latching into her. But you could *also* see that as when you’re struggling and low, you just want your best friend. Because they *get* you. And part of being a best friend is being there in those low moments.
And Em has done the same with Dex, just in different ways. That first year out of uni Em had no idea what she was doing; in a job she couldn’t wait to leave, a relationship that didn’t make her happy, not sure where she was going in life or what she was doing. Em writes to Dex often, and doesn’t need him to reply to her, just to read her letters and be *her* emotional crutch and person to vent to.
Even at that breakup-dinner, Em has things she ‘needs to talk about’ and she’s reached out to Dex to do it. We don’t see her discussing it with Tilly, we see her trying to talk about it with Dex. She’s at arguably her lowest moment (hates her job, hates her partner, hates her home) and she wants her best friend to listen to her. Just like he did when she was 24 and thinking about giving up and leaving London, and Dex convinced her to stay and keep going.
So they are emotional crutches *to one another*. That’s also part of being someone’s best friend.
And for all the low moments Dex also wanted to share his best moments with her too: when he’s excited about the TV pilot he calls Em to say ‘the only person I want to share this with is you’, and begs Em to find a way to be there. Yes this is also him dismissing and ignoring her achievements, yes this is self absorbed and rude and at the height of his egomania, but in that moment of triumph he only wants his best friend there with him.
When they see one another again at Tilly’s wedding Em is brave and self assured when she reveals she’s ‘thought of you every day, missed you every day’, and that even though they are friends again now the fact that Dex will have a wife and child ‘feels a bit like loosing you all over again. Because people with families have different priorities…’ That’s how close they were before.
The sentiment that ‘we grew up together’ is really true, for the both of them. They were very different people throughout their lives, and if they had tried to be a romantic couple earlier there is no guarantee that version of them would have lasted the course.
Would Emma have stayed with a peak-of-his-tv-fame Dex, partying and living life ‘to the full’? Or would they have explosively ended and decided they were too different for one another for it to ever work?
Would Dex have even tried for a career in TV or a full year of travelling if he’d become a couple with Emma after Uni? Or would he have done something else but grown resentful of what-could-have-been?
If they had sorted out their issues and apologised after their fight and Em had left Ian, would Em have found the strength to turn rock bottom into a spring board and finally write her book? Would she have even hit that bottom at all? Or would the hook have remained a pipe dream while she continued as a teacher, happy with Dex but professionally unfulfilled?
We will never know what could have been, and that doesn’t necessarily make those alternatives the ‘better’ option that they ‘missed out on’.
Maybe they would only ever have had 3 years together as a couple and getting it in their mid 30’s the way they did was their most mature and peaceful version.
So yes at times their relationship feels like it’s moving toward the inevitable conclusion of a romantic partnership. But the time before they get there wasn’t wasted or unimportant or unnecessary. And they were always together.

Our Lost Family
(LN04)
Summary: You end up having a miscarriage and you become super depressed after losing the baby, Lando gets fed up of your moping. Will this ruin your marriage forever?
Warnings: very angstyyy, sad
Pairing: Lando x wife!pregnant!reader
Part 2
Y/n pov:
It was a normal day, well as normal as it can be when you’re pregnant.
I got out of bed and went down the stairs to get started on breakfast for Lando and I.
Finishing up breakfast I set the table and called Lando to join me.
“How’s the little one feeling” Lando asked me touching my stomach tenderly.
“There’s a little discomfort but overall seems to be doing pretty well in my opinion” I replied and he looked at me with a soft smile.
We chatted about plans for the rest of the day as we ate and then went on about our plans finishing off the busy day with a nice calm dinner at home.
“Baby?” Lando called out as I was setting up the table.
“Yes love? What happened?” I asked.
“I have this weird nagging feeling that there’s something that is going to go wrong and I just can’t get it to stop” Lando confessed and that got me thing.
I have also felt an odd feeling similar to how Lando described it.
“I have also had this feeling, I don’t know what it is but it feels very serious” I told him and his face grew increasingly worried.
“Baby, I want you to know, no matter what happens to us or the baby I will always love you. Nothing will get me to love you less” Lando said and that made me both worried and a little calm at the same time.
Timeskip:
I was sitting at home watching tv and eating a simple salad when my stomach started to hurt extremely badly.
I saw blood pooling at my feet and I knew immediately that I was having a miscarriage, having heard so much about the experience from my mom who had had 2 miscarriages.
I immediately dialled Lando’s number but he didn’t pick up.
I dialled my mom number and she came in a few minutes and took me to the hospital.
Lando pov:
I was in a meeting when y/n repeatedly called which was odd for her as she knows my schedule and knows not to call when I’m busy.
I ignored her calls and put my phone one silent.
Timeskip:
I got home to find nobody around.
There was an eerie silence.
I walked to the bedroom in hopes of finding y/n sleeping but to no avail.
I went into the living room and found a pool of blood at the base of the couch.
My heart sank to my stomach.
Was this why she was calling?
Oh god is she alright??
I called y/n only to find that she left her phone here in the house
I thought of calling her mother, maybe she had taken her to the hospital?
When I called she immediately picked and her voice frantically said “Lando! Thank god your done, please come to x hospital immediately! I’m afraid y/n is having a miscarriage”
My brain was spiralling but I managed to get my keys and drive to the hospital.
When I entered the hospital is when I was met with the sight of y/n’s mother, sitting on a chair with her head in her hands.
“Mum?” I called out to her
Her head immediately snapped towards my direction and she sprinted over “Oh Lando My baby she’s in danger, her baby’s in danger I don’t know what to do” she cried.
“Don’t worry mum, she’ll be fine, she’s one of the strongest people I’ve met” I told her mum to try and calm her down.
“I guess you’re right, she is quite the resilient kind” she sighed out sadly.
Timeskip:
The doctor finally came out and came up to me and yn’s mum.
“You must be Mrs Norris’s family. She’s fine but significantly weaker. The baby however…did not make it. I’m so sorry for your loss, you can visit her now. She’s in room 004.”
When the doctor said this my heart sank to my stomach. We both had tried so hard to have a kid together and when she finally got pregnant she ended up having a miscarriage. I don’t know how I will face her after this pain.
I walked into the room and found her lying on the bed sleeping peacefully, if only life was going the way it was.
“Hey love, I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you. If only I had picked up your call, our child would’ve been alive with us” I spoke softly into her hair as I held her close.
She woke up in a panic “WHAT HAPPENED?? IS MY BABY OK? Lando ANSWER ME”
I didn’t know what to say to her so I just kept my head down and I guess she understood what I was trying to say. She broke down into sobs.
“My poor baby, I didn’t even get to see you. How am I to continue without you” she kept on repeating to herself and my heart kept breaking into smaller pieces with every word.
Timeskip:
Y/n’s been so incredibly depressed ever since the miscarriage. She can barely get out of bed in the morning and struggles to do basic tasks.
I love her but this is getting way too much. I mean, it’s just a baby, we can always try for another one.
I walked into the living room to see y/n lying on the couch with a blank stare on her face.
“Y/n?” I called out to her and she slowly turned towards me
“Y/n this is not healthy. It’s just a baby, it’s not the end of the world. We can always try for another one. Right now I’m fed up of you not doing anything but moping around and acting like the world has collapsed on you” I spoke fast.
Looking at her glossy eyes and hurt face should have told me that what I did was wrong but I didn’t realise
“Do you know how much this baby meant to me Lando? Do you know? After months of trying I finally got pregnant and I just lost the baby and you’re telling me to just “get over it”? Do you even hear yourself? I’m absolutely disappointed in your understanding. I’m leaving.” She yelled and walked out of the house.
What have I done?
Part 2?
A/n: I would love to get your guys feedback and also please send me any requests you’d like to see since I’m done with exams and have a bunch of free time. Kissies ✨

Tess' Sharpuary - 22. Altercation
His son getting into trouble, Aesop remembers one of his own altercations as a student.
chapter specific tags: slice of life, attempts at humour, kidfic (?)
relationships: aesop sharp x reader, aesop sharp & aesop's auror partner
Tumblr media
22. Altercation (1.3k)
tw: mentions of bullying
“He did WHAT?!” The woman winced slightly at her husband’s voice. It was not every day the potioneer raised his voice, he was not the kind of person to shout. Then again, it was not every day they received a letter from the school about one of their young getting into trouble. Not on the first week of school at least. It wasn’t exactly a letter from the school itself, though, but rather from professor Sallow, the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and her lifelong friend.
“He’s being punished, he’ll be serving detention with Sebastian for the following two weeks, and he also got points docked. He’s unharmed, save for a few scrapes and cuts - apparently, the other guy looked worse…”
Aesop Sharp looked at his wife and the mother of his children as if she just sprouted a second head. He wasn’t sure if her words made anything any better.
Apparently, their youngest son decided to start a fight with three boys, one of them his housemate, and all of them 2 years his senior. The reason? They were bullying a Muggleborn. And apparently, while he too got his little bum beat, he messed them up enough for the student body to gain respect for the young lad, if Sebastian’s words were to be believed. But where does one go from here, Aesop wondered. He could hardly reprimand his son for standing up to bullies, or for looking out for his classmate, but he couldn’t exactly praise him for picking fights in the corridors and risking hurting anyone, even if they were bigoted idiots…
“Oh come now,” his wife said placatingly, her hand making gentle contact with his scarred cheek, “don’t tell me you never fought with anyone when you were in school.”
Aesop did fight...
He was older then than Theo was now, thirteen, maybe fourteen.
It had been spring and they had an Astronomy class with Hufflepuffs. The cold of the winter passed still held onto the evenings. As such, many of the ill prepared third or fourth years were chattering their teeth, and wrapping their arms around themselves, while the professor droned on about the position of Venus at this time of year, and the constellation of Phoenix shifting to the east, or something else that was entirely lost on Aesop. One of these shivering students was Ashley, his best friend for many years now.
After five minutes of watching her tremble he sighed heavily and walked over to her. Without a word, he pulled off his heavy warm coat, and draped it around her shoulders. The blonde girl instantly eased into the warm fabric, and gave a happy sigh. “Thank you,” she turned to face him gratefully, “who would have thought Aesop Sharp was such a gentleman!” Aesop’s cheeks warmed up, and he looked down bashfully, which prompted his dear friend to giggle lightly.
“Oi, Montgomery, quit pretending you’re a girl, you’re bollocks at it,” came from their left suddenly. A rather plump Hufflepuff was standing there, leaning against the railing. Ashley told Aesop about the boy a few times, offhandedly, always describing him only as ‘an utter twat’. Aesop had to agree with her judgement. Ashley was a tomboy, that much was for sure, but Aesop never thought her as any less of a girl for it. Seems this sentiment wasn’t shared by her housemate.
“Do you have a problem, Thistlewick? Do you want some boy to also huddle you in his coat or what?” Ashley said sharply, but Aesop saw her wrap the coat more tightly around herself. “I’d hardly want you to huddle me in anything. Didn’t your mum teach you how to be a girl?” Aesop saw his friend swallow heavily, her hands turning into fists. Though it’s been years, Ashley was still very sensitive about the death of her mother, and the Slytherin understood completely. After all, he missed his father everyday.
Before the girl could reply, Aesop had already sent the hex.
“Entomorphis!”
Feelers suddenly sprouted from Thistlewick’s forehead, and the boy dropped to all fours. He did not speak, and instead began producing a panicked buzzing and clicking sounds, feeling the air around with the two antennae on his head. Several of his classmates laughed, but it would seem the teacher wasn’t so amused.
“Sharp! There will be no duelling in my class, and most definitely no insect hexes cast on the students!” his shrill voice cut through the air like a hot knife through butter, “Fifteen points from Slytherin, and detention with Caretaker Carpe for the following week! Reparifarge.” Thistlewick’s feelers disappeared, and the Hufflepuff picked himself up from the floor, looking all sorts of embarrassed. “And you, Mr Thistlewick,” the teacher said, his voice unforgiving, “don’t you think I didn’t hear what you said to Miss Montgomery. Ten points from your house, and you'll come to write some lines for me tomorrow. Hopefully, that’ll teach you not to insult your housemates.”
The teacher sighed then, pinching the bridge of his short nose. “Class dismissed,” he decided finally, “we’ve still got a few minutes to go, but I see some of you lot’s attention is long gone, while some of you I see are minutes away from hypothermia. Those who are properly dressed and wish to remain studying and filling in your star charts, feel welcome to, but only for another hour or so, then off to bed with you.
Most students began gathering their charts and lunascopes, Aesop among them. Ashley was already waiting for him by the stairs when he started walking towards her. However, the teacher’s hand stopped him: “You, I want to have a few words.”
Aesop groaned inwardly, but let the professor lead him some ways away from everyone else. “While I praise you for standing up for your friend, you have to realise that fighting is not the answer. In fact, hadn’t you sent the hex, it would only be Mr Thistlewick who’d be punished. Besides, do you know how dangerous this was? What if he, in his insect brain state, decided to take a leap off the tower?!” Aesop’s cheeks grew hot. What the teacher said made sense, but at that moment, he had felt so angry, and he wanted to defend his friend.
“You can win a battle using spells, but you won’t convince anyone of what you have to say. Only words will do that for you. Try to remember that,” said the teacher, and the young Slytherin nodded his head. Just as he was about to bid his farewells and finally leave, the astronomer stopped him one more time: “If you do want to practise your duelling safely, however, I hear a good place for it is at the Clock Tower Entrance. Run along now.”
As Aesop finally rejoined his friend, she looked around momentarily before embracing him quickly. “Thank you,” were her quiet words. He gave her a smile: “I wasn’t about to just let the bugger talk nonsense to you, was I?”
“What did he want from you just now?” the Hufflepuff girl asked, cocking her head in the teacher’s direction. Aesop grinned: “Apparently, it is true that teachers know about the Crossed Wands!”
Aesop slowly returned from his little trip down the memory lane. He couldn’t really blame his son for acting the way he did, as it would be immensely hypocritical of him. The potioneer sighed. “I should perhaps go to the school, talk to him about it…” he mused out loud while his wife carefully watched his reaction. “I think it would be for the best… No rush, though, I think it’ll be alright to do so upon your next delivery - let’s not make this more dramatic than it needs to be,” the woman replied softly.
Aesop chuckled. Give it to his wife’s Ravenclaw logic. His arms curled around her waist, and he kissed her lips softly.
“Maybe it’d be for the best to mention to our dear son that if he wants to practise duelling, the Clock Tower Entrance might just be the place for him?” he asked then, hands gently kneading at her hips. With a slightly smug expression, she lifted the letter from her friend for Aesop to read: “I think someone already beat you to that, dear.”

Thank you for reading! ❤

Diane Clarke was just 10 when she went through two life-changing losses. First, she lost her mother, who was stabbed to death in her own home. Then, she lost her father – the person who had killed her mother.
Pauline Benton, 32, was killed by her husband in 1978 after she told him she was seeing another man. Her death followed a “loveless” marriage in which she was allegedly controlled by her husband, who treated her as though she was a “possession”.
“When we got to the top of our street and there were blue flashing lights, I knew something was up,” Clarke tells The Independent. “All the neighbours were outside the house. There were ambulances and police cars there.”
The now 56-year-old recalls trying to go into her home in Cannock, Staffordshire, but being sent to her neighbour’s instead. Frustrated that nobody would explain what was going on, she had to wait until the next day for her grandfather to tell her news that no child should ever have to hear.
Clarke’s father was charged with her mother’s murder, which he denied, but he admitted manslaughter. He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court to three years in prison.
Clarke visited him in jail while living with her mother’s parents. Then, when he was released, she and her brother went to live with him again. As a child who could not fully understand the magnitude of what had happened, Clarke wanted to live with her father again, but now desperately wishes she had remained with her grandparents.
While Clarke’s situation may sound deeply shocking, she is not alone. Men who kill their partners in the UK automatically hold on to parental responsibility for their children – even if they are in prison. It means they remain in control of their children’s lives – including choosing where they live, and deciding on their healthcare needs, for example – unless a court removes parental responsibility.
Jade’s Law
With families up and down the country facing this situation, Labour has lent its backing to Jade’s Law: a proposed piece of legislation that would withdraw parental responsibility from a mother or father found guilty of murdering their child’s other parent.
In its current form, the proposed law – named after 27-year-old Jade Ward, who was stabbed and strangled in her home by her ex-partner Russell Marsh as their four young sons slept – would not cover a situation like Clarke’s, because her father was convicted of manslaughter, not murder.
But the mother of two, now a domestic abuse campaigner, is calling for the law to be broadened in order to cover both crimes when domestic abuse is involved.
‘Play fighting’
Clarke tells The Independent that her mother met another man, which she saw as her “way out” of the toxic relationship with Clarke’s father. It was when she finally plucked up the courage to tell her husband the truth that he turned violent.
A newspaper cutting about the case describes how Benton’s husband – “incensed” at hearing of her six-month affair – “plunged a bread knife into her chest”.
“It was sold in the newspapers and in the court as she asked for it because she had an affair,” says Clarke.
Court reports said Clarke’s father was a “normally placid man”, but a social enquiry report used in the case, seen by The Independent, quotes Benton’s father describing him as a “jealous man” who tended to treat his wife as “a possession”.
Clarke remembers how her father, who was married to her mother for 15 years, would physically fight with his wife until she would go into the bedroom crying. Her father would refer to this as “play fighting”, she says.
“My relationship with my mum wasn’t good, because my dad was getting me to mock her and abuse her as well,” she recalls. “So when he killed her, I missed my dad more than I missed my mum.”
While her father was in prison, Clarke spent her time looking after her mother’s parents, who were “wrapped up in their own pain”.
“They were on Valium. They were drinking,” Clarke recalls. “I was looking after them. They’ve lost their daughter, their daughter has been killed, you know – they’re devastated.”
She says nobody checked to see if she was coping when she started at a new school, and recalls the “traumatic” experience of sitting making a Mother’s Day card, which she addressed to her grandmother.
“I was getting bullied at that school by this time, as well, because I was getting more and more vulnerable. I didn’t tell anybody I was being bullied.”
‘I was having nightmares’
Living with the man who had killed her mother wasn’t easy. Describing the situation after he was released from prison, Clarke says she played the role of mum, doing the cleaning, washing and cooking, and feeling “desperately, desperately alone” while doing so.
“I was having nightmares,” she adds. “Somebody was trying to kill me in the dreams. I’ve always thought ‘I’ve got to be careful what I say or do, because what if he kills me?’ And even though he’s an old man now, I still have that fear.”
After leaving school, she “hit rock bottom”, getting into a relationship with a violent boyfriend and making an attempt to kill herself. Clarke is still vaguely in touch with her father, but effectively considers herself an orphan.
“If I saw him in the street, I would try and avoid talking to him,” she says. “But if I came face to face, the inner child would just be happy and pleasing and say hello and be respectful towards him, because that was the way I survived when I lived with him.”
Speaking to The Independent about Jade’s Law – which was debated in parliament at the end of last year – Ellie Reeves, the shadow minister for prisons and probation, urged the government to take action.
The Labour MP for Lewisham West and Penge, who leads on violence against women and girls in the justice team, said: “It is shocking that, as the law currently stands, killers retain parental responsibility after murdering their child’s mother – enabling them to continually abuse and assert control over their children even from prison.
“Labour has called for Jade’s Law to automatically suspend parental rights for fathers who have murdered their child’s mother. This will put the rights of victims above those of perpetrators, and work to end violence against women and girls. That is how we will prevent crime and protect families.”
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice told The Independent: “Judges are required to put the welfare of children first, and can effectively remove all rights and powers from a parent who has murdered the other.”
Responding to the Jade’s Law petition, the government said it recognises that in situations where a parent is convicted of the murder of another parent, the process can be “onerous”.
Dr Adrienne Barnett, who specialised in family law while practising as a barrister for more than 30 years, told The Independent it is “incredibly rare” for a father’s parental responsibility to be withdrawn, “even in the most heinous and harrowing circumstances”.
Hazel Mercer, of Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse, says the families she supports after domestic homicide find the fact that perpetrators still have parental rights “highly traumatic”.
The national domestic abuse helpline offers support for women on 0808 2000 247, or you can visit the Refuge website. There is a dedicated men’s advice line on 0808 8010 327. Those in the US can call the domestic violence hotline on 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). Other international helplines can be found via www.befrienders.org

words: 1282 warnings: insecurity within a relationship (from bc of spouse), age gap, step parent, slight anxiety (but nothing too described)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Three weeks previously…
“I don’t know. I’d love to spend it again with Marco but I’ve still barely met anyone on his side properly.” There’s a pause as she listens to someone on the other end of the phone call speaking before she starts speaking again but not before she sighs. “I mean…I’ve briefly met his ex wife and I’ve spent a good amount of time with his children but not enough to say I could confidently walk into a room with his loved ones and engage without worry. And mine? Still not sure dad would approve fully, you know how he gets about these things.”
Despite everything that she’s told him about how she feels, Marco still feels his stomach drop and his heart sink further. He knew their age gap would pose problems, but the worry, if not fear, that they wouldn’t be accepted because of it grew tenfold but hearing her say it during a call that he probably wasn’t supposed to overhear, it hurts. Not wanting to keep listening, and in turn, hurting himself, Marco pushes himself to continue walking until he reaches the kitchen, leaving her alone in the living room none the wiser.
“No, I’m not saying it’s right. You know that I think it’s shit, but what can I do? Forcing him to accept it will do more harm than good. I want him to see that I’m happy before he finds out who is making me happy. Mum says he’ll need time to come around because obviously she knows and she’s fine with it but if dad can see how happy I am, that’ll help.”
_
Now.
Standing in the kitchen with her hands submerged in the water, she takes this time to gather her thoughts. She knew that meeting his family for the first time, properly, would be an experience but she wasn’t expecting to feel this welcomed by his parents and children. His mother had swept her into the house, engaged her in conversation and tried to do her best to make her feel as relaxed as possible given the circumstances.
Occasionally Marco’s ex would be brought up, mostly in relation to what she’d bought the kids for christmas or when they’d be seeing her next, but it was enough to make her feel as though she was the odd one out in a way. This was the first year that his ex hadn’t been present for Christmas and she knew that she was responsible for this - not that she felt any sort of hostility from them for this, though she could have understood it if there was.
Soap suds coat her hands, lathering them up and making her hands feel silky. His parents have a dishwasher, one that they were more than happy to stack but she offered to do the remaining ones so that she could at least be helpful. She’d caught the way his parents had looked at one another during the course of the day, pulling expressions similar to first time parents with a newborn who is experiencing many of their first “firsts” and though it had made her happy to see that they appeared pleased that Marco was happy, she felt a pang of sadness that this wasn’t something that she could experience with her own parents just yet.
She smells his aftershave before she hears the soft padding of his footsteps behind her. She watches via the reflection in the window as Marco approaches and closes her eyes briefly as his arms wrap around her waist and he nuzzles into her neck. “Do you want me to dry if you’re washing?”
“I was going to do that after I’d finished everything else, but I wasn’t sure where it needed to go.” She admits, casting a quick glance over the pile of tableware that stands air drying.
“I’m surprised mum let you do this, she’s usually particular about her kitchen. Clearly she’s trying to make a good impression.”
“That makes two of us then.”
“Your efforts have paid off. Believe me.” Marco presses a light kiss to her neck, the feel of his beard scraping against her skin makes her shudder.
“You sound certain about that,” she pulls out one of the glasses and rinses it off under the tap before placing it on the draining board along with the others.
“I am. I wouldn’t say it if I didn't mean it.” He replies before kissing a light kiss to her skin once more and removes himself from her body. She feels cold almost immediately in his absence but notes that he collects a towel and begins to dry everything off - just like he said he would. He navigates his parents' kitchen like the back of his hand and puts everything away with ease. “You didn’t need to do this though, you know.”
“I know. But your parents cooked and hosted and me tidying away is the least I can do to relieve some of their duties for when we’ve left.”
“Speaking of,” Marco says as he opens one of the above cupboards and begins to stack the plates in there. “I can’t wait to get back with you, have a glass of wine and settle in for the night once they’ve gone to bed.”
“You say that like I’m staying,” she chuckles to herself and pulls the the plug from the sink to let the water go.
“Wait, you’re not staying?” comes a little voice and she finds herself turning and facing Marco’s 8 year old daughter who looks between the two of them, disappointment clear on her face.
“Erm,” Marco’s girlfriend clears her throat and nervously looks at him before turning back to the little one, “I thought you might want to spend tonight with your dad and brother that’s all. I didn’t want to overstay my welcome.”
“We want you here. You’re part of our family now too. Right dad?”
If it was possible to feel a heart swell with both love and pride for a child, Marco would say he could physically feel his enlarge in this very moment for his child. He’d hoped that they’d like being around her and accept her as someone who he found himself falling in love with but to ask for her to stay on what was always their night together is more than perfect. “Right.” He says after clearing his own throat, unaware how the lump that had wedged itself there had grown so big in such a short space of time.
“And…” his daughter plays with her fingers as she works out the words she wants to say and shifts nervously from foot to foot as she does so, “if it’s ok with you, we have a gift we’d like to give to you. Me and my brother that is,” she adds for clarification and when Marco turns to look at his girlfriend, she can see from his expression that he had no idea this was coming either.
The thoughtfulness of such a premeditated gesture catches her off guard. Her eyes well up and her heart beats hard against her ribcage in such a way that she can feel it pounding in her ears.
“Well,” she swallows hard and tries to laugh off her emotions, catching a stray tear with her thumb that she wasn’t able to blink back. “I guess I’ll have to stay then, if it’s ok with you both? And your brother of course.”
“As long as you like popcorn and hot cocoa.” His daughter asks brightly. “That sounds perfect to me.”
And for the first time in weeks, if not longer, she feels as though everything is slowly clicking into place.

Thrown to the Wolves is so good!!! We need more Feyd PoV! But readers relationship with Feyd-yess. But the pregnancy is scaring me a bit especially after one of the former maids said.
Also, this might not be related to the story but more to the character:
It seems like Leto didn’t take Reader/OC seriously & that because she is a woman & the child of her mother (instead of Lady Jessica) she is less than Paul. That’s the vibe I’m getting. I just want to get more understanding of that relationship that lead to her being very power driven.
Hiii!!! 👋🏻 There will be more of Feyd's POV as I promised to my readers – I will include something about him thinking of his wife's pregnancy but I am waiting for the right moment in the plot to include it. 😊
Yes, what she said was worrying but The Reader has that creepy medic injecting vitamins and minerals and proteins and literally everything in her so I don't think her child will weaken her so much. However, as the Baron mentioned to Feyd – the risk is that she will share her mother's fate and die in childbirth (spoiler alert – she won't because I never kill the Reader xd I mean I did that a few times long time ago in a different fandom and it always felt bad and I decided to never do it again)
Now, about the Reader's relationship with Leto — it's how I imagined it while writing it but of course everyone is welcome to have their own theories and feelings (the death of the author – my theories are as valid as yours!!!)
You are right – she was a girl and she was a daughter of a woman whom Leto didn't love; just a fruit of an unwanted arranged union – disappointing fruit as well since his wife was supposed to give him a son (as we know Lady Jessica was supposed to give birth to a daughter so he'd be left alone with no official male heirs).
But was Princess Atreides really treated so badly? Of course she felt worse because she was a girl and she couldn't inherit despite being older than Paul and not being a bastard. And it was making her angry just like the fact his mum was alive and hers was not. But in my opinion she is exaggerating a lot when she's describing her life on Caladan.
Now again, every person would react differently to such upbringing. Not everyone would grow hungry for power. She was either born this way or maybe she inherited it after her grandfather... After all, her mother might have been delicate and timid but her family's far from that. There is also another possibility that I like the most – she grew up with Lady Jessica who was the only mother figure (or the closest to it) she had. She is Lady Jessica. She learned from her.
I personally see the na-baroness a spoiled girl who is angry that her little brother is inheriting everything just because he's a boy and she thinks she'd make a better Duchess. She interprets every action of her family as something aimed at and against her and she kinda has that victim complex, exaggerating every single thing to make herself look like a martyr. There is no doubt Leto and Paul loved her dearly and even Jessica held some maternal feelings for her. But it was simply not enough.
I never meant for the Reader to be written as a good person. In the beginning it was less visible but on Giedi Prime her true self can bloom.

Fire and Hemlock Readalong: Chapter 4
…in which there is a horse.
I always remember this being the chapter (during my first read through) where I was like “Oh Diana We’re Really In It Now.” After the unfriendliness of her home life, Mr. Lynn’s flat opens as a place of refuge where Polly is allowed to be her own person and where her imagination is treated as a perfectly valid and real thing (which of course it is, in Nowhere). The conversation between herself and Mr. Lynn also pretty well describes the Nowhere/Now-Here theme, though it still doesn’t entirely make conceptual sense unless you’re really focusing on it. Polly also describes Mr. Lynn as several different kinds of animals (tortoise, ostrich, orangutan, spider-monkey) which references the ballad (though perhaps in the most unromantic way possible lol).
The way DWJ describes the horse is incredible. Actually, everything she does with scene setting in this novel is incredible, but especially what she does with color: the golden light on the tree leaves, the orange light on Mr. Lynn’s glasses, the yellow-white of the horse. It recalls Her descriptions of Hunsdon House, a bit--her moments where magic breaks through are really richly developed, contrasted to places like Polly's school and street, which are just kind of in the background.
Mr. Lynn’s “Laurel taught me about horses” has always been something that feels really meaningful, though I’ve never exactly been able to connect it to anything, except merely that Laurel had instructed him in some way, which I suppose gives a little hint as to their relationship (that’s another thing I want to focus on this readaround—exactly what Laurel was to him, aside a weird first wife).
I know this is just me being the target audience for this book, but I find it so real how somehow Dad and Mr. Lynn are tied together in Polly’s mind even if her reasons for doing so are just circumstantial. Dad goes out, Mr. Lynn comes in. Another thing important here is naming: Ivy is always Ivy in this chapter, when she was both Ivy and Mum in the previous one. Clearly, her motherliness diminishes as her very flawed personhood comes to the fore, but Dad is here consistently Dad until we know better.
Spoilers below:
I notice here that when Tom describes Leslie as dark and thick-set, he’s wrong, but when Polly gives him a skull earring, that’s the part that comes true. So now I’m wondering to what extent Polly is the one possessing the truthful ability, not Tom, or not only Tom. He knows that storytelling is meaningful and yet it doesn't always work for him, the way it seems to for Polly. After all, he and Polly don't meet a giant in a grocery store, since that was his idea.

Hi dear! ✨
For the OC ask game! 🍒🧣🥊
Hello love! ;u; thank you for the ask, I'm really excited to answer! Hope you don't mind that I do all three of my ladies! Also I hope you're having a wonderful day, you deserve it <3
~~~~~<3~~~~~
🍒 (cherries) - Does your character have a best friend? How long have they known each other? What do they like most about each other? How did they meet?
Jodie: The closest person she has to a best friend is probably Mason's wife, Sarah. The first time she met Sarah was Christmas 1981. (I'm actually writing this and it was inspired by Woods' Christmas jumper skin). Jodie and Sarah haven't known each other a lifetime but that doesn't matter, from '81 onward they have a good friendship. I will admit that Jodie was very distant with the other ton begin with, but it was Sarah's patience and persistence that made their friendship continue; if it had been left up to Jodie she would have self-sabotaged thinking she didn't deserve the friendship (as she often thinks about a lot of relationships and people around her). Jodie admires Sarah's caring streak and emotional strength. Sarah likes Jodie's humour.
Franca: Soap and Gaz - she's known them since joining 141 after both of them. Franca likes Soap's accent even though have the time she hasn't got a clue what he's saying (she was raised by Italian parents and English isn't even her first language even though she was born and raised in England). Soap likes when she emphatically talks Italian at inanimate objects that inconvenience her or when she'll forget a word in English but remember the Italian or vice-verser. As for Gaz, she likes that he's not afraid to say what he thinks. Gaz likes her for her perseverance - he admires that streak in her.
As for how they met? It was an introduction from Price. Plain and simple.
Nanette: YES! She does and it's Soap's sister, Lesley. They've known each other for years, as they went to university together. Nanette loves that Lesley can sing. She finds her voice so calm and relaxing. Lesley likes that no matter what Nanette will always try to be there, likes how big her heart is, and worries often that others might take advantage of that. If I had to describe their friendship in a word, it would be the wine aunt besties. No matter how much time might pass since seeing each other, when they meet up again it's like no time has passed at all. Like I say, the met at university, where Nanette walked in on Lesley singing her heart out in their shared flat, which then delved into screams when Les realised she wasn't alone. Nanette then screamed because she was made to jump. So yeah, they screamed at each other when they first met.
🧣(scarf) - What comforts your oc? Is it an item? An action? A person? Whatever it is, how and why does it comfort them?
Jodie: Throughout the years with Perseus the only thing she had to comfort herself with was the knowledge that her loyalty to Perseus was keeping her brother (and eventually the family he has) safe. The looking forward to the scarce opportunities that she was allowed to go see him, to catch up on everything he was doing, seeing him grow as a person was a comfort. However, that ended up being taken away so then for a few years she had nothing. That was until she met Woods, Mason and his family. Then, one day, little David handed her a scrunched up, tattered piece of paper and insisted that she take it with her. Whenever she tried to give it back because it was his drawing, he'd hide his arms behind his back and then go hide behind his mum. Jodie keeps that drawing folded up in her wallet and whenever she needs reminding that she's worth something, that she's loved and safe, she looks at it.
Also I died a little from imagining how cute it would be for a little toddler David to shuffle over to her and do something this cute. The drawing is crude but it's hers, now, and she'd cry if she lost it.
Franca: it's her Saint Christopher necklace that she wears. According to her mum, it belonged to her great grandmother. Given that her relationships with her family are strained, she remembers that this was the last thing her mother gave her before she left for basic training. It was also the last time she saw her mum. Saint Christopher is believed to watch over travellers, wherever they will go, so it comforts her that way; it's also comforting for her to think that, even though her mum doesn't speak with her anymore (due to the dad) that her mum still wanted her to be safe.
Nanette: A jumper that belongs to Soap. It smells of him. It brings him back to her when he's not there and on mission. Whenever she wears it, it's like he's hugging her again. So, when it's a day that missing him becomes unbearable, she'll put it on. It really is as simple as that for Nettie.
I could write for days about how something as simple as a jumper would help her through the grief of losing him, but I refuse to accept the ending of MW3.
🥊 (boxing glove) - Has your character ever been in a fight? Did they win? Do they fight often? Are they professionally trained or self taught? Do they enjoy fighting or only do so when necessary?
Jodie: Jodie has been in plenty. Some she has won, some she has not. Fighting isn't a common thing she does, it's not like she does it every day, but given her line of work she does come across fights more often than an everyday citizen. In terms of training? I haven't been able to figure this out, yet, because there's a few bumbling thoughts about Perseus' past - what I can say is that he was the one who taught her how to fight, self defence etc. Then she was trained by the KGB. Jodie was taught and prefers to only fight when absolutely necessary but understands that abstaining from it can be more detrimental at times. Then, there are times when her fight or flight instinct kick in and her body will fight.
Franca: Also a yes. As a combat medic, she's actually held back from taking point in combat as her skills are critical when someone is injured etc. So I'd say she's less likely to fight, even if she wants to get involved. Yes, she is professionally trained, learned everything she needed to from the British Military. I'm pretty sure that the basics of combat and self defence are covered in the Army basic training. Franca can't lie, she does enjoy a fight, but knows that she should only do so when necessary - unnecessary fighting can lead to unnecessary casualties. Even though she loves the fast pace of giving first aid on the battlefield, she prefer for her soldiers to be alive and well, not injured.
Nanette: lmao so this is where it gets interesting for me because of my main three COD ocs, Nanette does not have a military background. Writing civilians or characters that do not have fighting capabilities is strange for me, but I try anyway.
She's probably been in a few verbal altercations on nights out, had a few arguments, but she's never been in a physical fight during her adulthood. Maybe in primary school (non-UK that's from the ages of, like, 7-11) I could see her sticking up for a few kids and getting into pulling hair fights, but nah... she's not a fighter at heart.
~~~~~<3~~~~~
@alypink thank you thank you! It's always a pleasure seeing you in my ask box ;u; I had a lot of fun writing out these responses and some of them really got me thinking - some had me wondering if I even remembered anything about my ocs XD the woes!
Anyway have a lovely day! You deserve it, love!!

“I almost cried with laughter when I read the first script and then I met Keith-Lee Castle, who plays the Count and just looks like a rock star, and I knew it was going to be cool.” -  Donna Grant (Magda)
Daily Record interview with Donna Grant (Magda) By Samantha Booth.
Sinister, calculating and scheming is how Scots actress Donna Grant describes her character in the BBC’s new kids’ show Young Dracula. In fact, vampire mum Magda sounds quite despicable - but that’s exactly why the 30-year-old actress from Inverness was so desperate to play her.
The mum-of-one said: “I just couldn’t resist playing her because she is such a fantastically nasty character. She is a vampire and like all vampires she thinks she is better than everyone but Magda really does take it to another level. She is just so brilliantly evil.
The show is about Count Dracula’s move to Britain with his two children after his wife, Magda, has run away with a werewolf. And in tonight’s episode Magda returns to her family - although I am not saying if they welcome her back or not because, not only is she not the best mother in the world, she also broke the Count’s heart.
"But he loves her for her evil - so in a way she can do no wrong.”
Donna was intrigued by the role of Magda from the minute she heard about it and as soon as the show’s producers set eyes on the Scot, the role was hers.
She said: “I think it was a combination of me getting into the part  and because they thought I had the right look. They offered me the part on the spot.”
Since then Donna has been filming the show in the Brecon Beacons in Wales and has thoroughly enjoyed every minute if it. She said: “I almost cried with laughter when I read the first script and then I met Keith-Lee Castle, who plays the Count and just looks like a rock star, and I knew it was going to be cool”
"And it really has lived up to all of my expectations.
"The show has been great fun to film and some of my outfits have just been fantastic - I have a wedding bouquet with dead bird skulls in it.
"I know it is meant for children but I really think some adults will love it too.
"It is incredibly well written and because the whole Goth thing is pretty cool at the moment I think it could be a huge success.”
Growing up in Inverness with her mum and grandparents, Donna always wanted to act. She had an idyllic childhood, spending a lot of time out riding on her family’s horses, but when she left school as a teenager she was desperate to get out into the world and, in particular, she had her sights set on London.
She said: "I absolutely loved growing up in Inverness and, if I could, I would bring my own daughter Scarlet up in that way too – but I have to be in London just now for my work.
"But when I was 17 I was just desperate to get out and get started living and working. "I didn’t even want to go to university. I just wanted to get stuck right in.”
Luckily for Donna, some photographs she’d had taken by an Inverness photographer found their way into the hands of a London talent scout. The next thing Donna knew, she was being invited down to the city for a meeting with a top agency.
She said: “It was always acting I had wanted to do but modelling found me, so what could I do? The agency liked me and before I knew where I was, I had moved down to London and was thrown into this mad world of modelling.
"At the time it was the easy option but I quickly discovered it also meant I could make lots of money, travel and meet really interesting people so I wasn’t going to walk away from it in a hurry.” Donna did every kind of modelling, from catwalk to billboards.
She worked for a time in Japan and Germany, shot ads for Agent Provocateur and Baileys and appeared in several television commercials. BUT just because she was finding a certain level of success as a model, it didn’t mean Donna had forgotten her dream of becoming an actress.
And in 2001 she finally got her first acting job in a film called Is Harry On The Boat?, following the loves and lives of a group of young holiday reps in Ibiza and co-starring Danny Dyer and Davina Taylor.
Donna said: “It was brilliant fun to film and I’m still friends with a lot of the people I met out there in Ibiza.”
It wasn’t long until Donna found herself having to take time out from acting to have her baby daughter Scarlet, who is now three years old.
A bit of a rock chick at heart, she met Scarlet’s dad Chris McCormack, guitarist in hard rock outfit 3 Colours Red, when his band at the time, Grand Theft Audio, were supporting The Cult in concert at the Brixton Academy in London.
The pair had a whirlwind romance, married and had baby Scarlet. Donna said: “I have always been into my rock music and through modelling I did hang about with a lot of rock types at the time. So I was instantly attracted to Chris and we ended up having a whirlwind romance. Sadly, things just didn’t work out and we are now in the middle of divorce proceedings. But we really are still best friends.”
Donna now lives a much quieter life with Scarlet in north London and loves nothing better than the chance to return to Scotland to see her family and get out into the hills.
She said: “I love coming back up to Scotland and I am so excited because I just booked my tickets for Christmas so I’ll be spending the holidays at home.
"Drinking wine, eating lots of nice food and going for walks in the hills - it will just be wonderful. My life is a lot quieter now than it was a few years ago but that’s the way I like it. Where I live in London is a bit like a village so I do get the best of both worlds down there and I do like it, but nothing beats coming home.
However, I don’t think I would have settled down as well now if I hadn’t had my wild time when I was younger. It was a load of fun at the time and I met loads of amazing people. I even met some of my heroes, such as Joe Strummer from The Clash, although my most star-struck moment came when I met Chris Morris from Brass Eye. I really admire him and think he is so funny and clever but when I met him I just didn’t know what to say. I mean, because of my modelling, I am quite used to meeting famous people but when I came face to face with him all I could do was make a bit of a whimpering sound. I just thought that he is so witty and cutting he’s just going to chew me up and spit me out whatever I say. Can you imagine what he would have said to me if I had said I really liked his work? And I know I said I lead a quieter life now but my uncle has just opened up a new venue in Inverness called The Ironworks and we have Dirty Pretty Things playing there at New Year - so I might not be able to resist digging my rocker gear out once again. Especially as I will have my mum on hand to babysit.” A rock ‘n’ roll loving mum in rocker gear … Magda would be proud.

5 minute read
From the kitchen table of the house she shares with her partner and (at times) their eight children, Lauren, 38, has been working with Claire to put pressure on the government to prevent sex offenders from changing their names after release. They have also had to fight to have their sister’s murderer placed on the sex offender register.
In April, they travelled to London to meet Damian Hinds, minister for prisons, parole and probation, to explain their concerns that weaknesses in the law make women and children more vulnerable when sex offenders are released from prison.
Lauren Holmes was 11 when she discovered how her sister, Collette, had died. There were woods near the family home in Corby in Northamptonshire, and Lauren had ignored her mother’s warning that they were unsafe.
“We knew we weren’t allowed to go there,” Lauren remembers, “but we did, and we got chased by a local lad. Two of my friends ended up in hospital getting thorns removed because they’d tried to escape through the brambles. That evening, everyone’s parents gave us a real rollicking, but my mum was just silent. I couldn’t understand why she wasn’t shouting. I was sent to my room and she came in and threw a load of newspapers on my bed, and she said: ‘This is why you’re not allowed to go into the woods!’ I felt shocked and guilty. It was a hard way to find out.”
The newspapers explained that a local man named Adam Stein had abducted six-year-old Collette Gallacher in February 1986 as she waited for a bus to take her to school, the same school where her mother worked as a playground assistant and dinner lady. Corby in the 1980s was a much smaller place than it is today. Struggling with the fallout of the closure of the British Steel plant, which had been Europe’s largest steelworks, there was high unemployment – but there was also a sense of community in the streets around the Gallachers’ home. “Everyone knew each other,” Lauren says. It was not unusual for a six-year-old to be sent off to school alone.
On the day of the abduction, “someone asked my mum where Collette was, and that’s when they realised something wasn’t right,” Lauren says. The search for Collette lasted five days, and Stein was one of the many locals who volunteered to look for her, before her body was found in the attic of the house that he shared with his wife and young son. Stein admitted rape as well as murder, but the sexual assault charge lay on file – a decision sometimes taken if a defendant has also pleaded guilty to more serious charges. Lauren and her younger half-sister Claire believe this was in order to spare the family from sitting through details of the attack in court. Stein was jailed for life and told he would serve a minimum of 20 years. Thirty-seven years later, Collette’s sisters are still fighting to make sure he does not escape justice.
Claire Holmes was not yet born and Lauren was only 15 months old when Collette was killed, but her murder still dominates their lives. Their mother, Karen, did her best to shield them from what had happened but when Claire, now 32, was nine or 10, she stumbled across a box of newspaper cuttings. “I was in my mum’s room having a nosy around, as I shouldn’t have done. We always knew we had a big sister, that a bad man had taken her, but it was a taboo subject. My mum still struggles to say Collette’s name. My grandad had to explain it all.”
Lauren, who works as a carer at a home for adults with a rare genetic condition, feels she has become a part-time detective, working with the local Corby journalist Kate Cronin to investigate why her sister’s murderer was sent back to prison after his release in 2016. It appears this was connected to driving offences, and she discovered he had changed his name and begun a relationship with a vulnerable teenager during the short period he was free. Claire has begun a degree in criminology, spurred on by her concerns about flaws in the justice system.
The sisters want to make it clear that their activism does not stem from vindictiveness. “This is not a witch-hunt. We hoped he would be rehabilitated in prison, but everything we now know suggests that hasn’t happened,” Claire says. “The latest parole statement that we have says that he is still having bad thoughts about children, and not understanding the consequences of his actions. From all the information we have, he does not seem to be a man who has changed.”
They are cautiously optimistic that their campaign may be getting somewhere. In March, the Labour MP for Rotherham, Sarah Champion, organised a debate on sex offenders’ name changes, while Bolsover’s Conservative MP, Mark Fletcher, had a 10-minute-rule bill on the same subject; both argue that it is too easy for sex offenders to conceal their identities.
“A sex offender can change their name and with little difficulty receive a passport or a driving licence with their new name,” Fletcher told MPs. “At no point are you asked if you have a criminal background. In some cases this can lead to a DBS check under their new identity.” A DBS, or Disclosure and Barring Service, check is required for some jobs or voluntary roles, particularly in healthcare or in positions that involve working with children.
Collette’s sisters did not intend to devote so much of their lives to campaigning, but the target of their concern has evolved over the years. Stein was refused parole several times before being released in 2016 and returned to prison in 2017. He was released again in 2021 and sent back in July 2022. After his first release, they were dismayed to discover that he had not been placed automatically on the sex offender register. Their campaigning resulted in his name being added, but they are still uncertain about whether the initial failure was because he did not have a conviction for rape or because the offence predated the launch of the register.
A newspaper article by Cronin prompted a woman to get in touch to say that while he had been out of prison in 2016, Stein, then 58, had changed his name and struck up a relationship with her, when she was 18. He admitted that he had been in prison after killing a child, but told her it had been an accident.
The sisters were concerned that Stein’s ability to change his name made it easier to conceal his past. “You shouldn’t be able to hide when you’ve committed crimes of this nature. That should be something that you carry for the rest of your life,” Claire says.
The Safeguarding Alliance warns that the child sexual offenders’ disclosure scheme (also known as Sarah’s law, named after eight-year-old Sarah Payne, who was murdered by a paedophile in 2000), which allows parents to check if a person has a record for child sexual offences, becomes useless if the offender has changed their name.
Asked why this weakness has not already been fixed, Fletcher said this was “a bit of a head-scratcher”. There is the possibility that post-prison rehabilitation would be undermined for those who have reformed and want a new start, but the government is not making this case, just arguing that sex offenders are already required to notify the authorities if they change their names and face an extra five years’ imprisonment if they fail to do this within three days of the change.
Campaigners point out that many fail to do so. Freedom of information requests from the Safeguarding Alliance show that about 900 sex offenders went missing between 2017 and 2020, while 16,000 had in some way breached their notification requirements in the past five years. As Fletcher told MPs: “It doesn’t take a genius to realise that sex offenders are not the most trustworthy group.”
Champion, meanwhile, has pointed out that some perpetrators change their name before being formally charged with an offence, “meaning their birth name remains unmaligned”.
Collette’s sisters are hopeful that reform may be included in the victims and prisoners bill currently going through parliament. In the meantime, they have been working with Cronin to try to get more information about whether Stein still poses a threat to the public ahead of his next possible release in 2024. Cronin’s attempts to obtain more information about him have been complicated by the name changes. “It’s not about pitchforks. It’s about keeping women and girls safe,” she says.
The family are dismayed that they are still fighting to ensure Stein is properly monitored after his release. “His name is constantly in our mouths,” says Claire. “It would have been lovely to know that he had been released and quietly got on with his life. It does happen. People do change their lives – but that’s not been the case. We feel like we can never have peace.”

Chapter 2
The man immediately stepped back and from where he was standing, Talos could see G’iah breathe a sigh of relief.
“May I ask what you do, sir?” The saccharine politeness in the man’s voice nearly made Talos gag but he maintained his composure.
“People management and infrastructure,” Talos replied.
The man forced a smile and Talos wondered how often the expression appeared on his face as it looked rather unnatural.
“Thank you for staying with my nephew and keeping him calm,” the woman spoke.  Talos detected something in her words that he didn’t like and his suspicions deepened further when the woman shot Harry a contemptuous look.
“He’s not safe with his relatives,” Talos realised.  The thought made his heart hurt. He found himself dwelling on the mission that he and Nick had been working on and here was a family that appeared to hold nothing but scorn and hatred for one of their own.
“We wouldn’t have had to stay with him if you had taken him home from the park like you were supposed to,” G’iah piped up.
The obese man clearly wanted to snap back at G’iah but his desire to impress someone he saw as influential outweighed his desire to speak.
“Good.” Talos thought venomously.
The woman forced a smile, evidently appearances were important to her as well, “We’ll be taking Harry home now.”
“But mum!” The child protested, “On the way here, dad said that he was going to take the freak to the orphanage as soon as we found him.”
Talos’ gaze hardened and he observed that the man and woman looked incredibly uncomfortable at what their son had just revealed.  They seemed to be trying to gauge his reaction and in an effort to control his temper at hearing a child being described as a ‘freak,’ Talos gazed at G’iah and Harry.  His heart cracked at the fact that Harry didn’t appear to be upset at his cousin’s revelation.  G’iah on the other hand was the complete opposite.
She looked between Harry and his uncle with a hand over her mouth before scowling angrily and her hand fell back to her side where it balled up into a fist.  Talos could see that she was clenching her jaw and her weight shifted forwards as if she was going to step in front of Harry’s uncle and try to physically stop him from taking Harry to the orphanage.
While Talos admired his daughter’s wish to protect Harry, he knew he needed to diffuse the situation as quickly as possible.  He hoped G’iah would understand the reasons for his actions.
“That won’t be necessary.  Harry will be coming to live with me and my daughter.” Talos’ eyes fell on Harry’s clothing again and a thought occurred to him.
“Along with any objects that are stored in any part of your house that rightfully belong to Harry.”  Talos continued.  He meticulously chose his words to ensure that there was no room for Harry’s aunt and uncle to misinterpret the message in his words.
Five pairs of eyes stared at him in astonishment nevertheless Talos stood firm.
Harry’s uncle, Vernon Dursley, quickly introduced himself, his wife, and his son before explaining that Harry was related to Petunia by blood.  It was clear to Talos that Vernon was hoping to smooth things over and that the man was also hoping that by agreeing instantly with Talos’ words that Talos wouldn’t reveal what had occurred here to anyone (including his supposed boss) when he and G’iah left Surrey.  Talos made a mental note to ask Nick to do some digging into the Dursleys’ background.
The Dursleys exited the park after promising multiple times to return with all of Harry’s belongings.   Talos had mixed feelings about that.  He was concerned that the Dursleys would try to destroy as many of Harry’s belongings as they could without arousing suspicion.
On the other hand, because of the Dursleys’ departure, he, G’iah and Harry now had a brief respite from them which could only be good for the boy.  The second after the Dursleys had left the park, G’iah tugged Harry over to her dad, exclaiming repeatedly how happy she was that she had a new little brother.  Her enthusiasm and good mood were infectious and Talos found himself sporting a large grin.
“Why did you do that for me?” The boy mumbled with his eyes downcast when he was close to Talos.
Talos crouched down so that he and Harry were at the same level.  The boy slowly lifted his eyes so he could look into Talos’ and the Skrull found himself admiring the emerald colour.  It was so bright and vivid that it took Talos a short time to refocus and remind himself that Harry had asked a question.
“Because I could do something to help you.  It was clear that you weren’t happy or safe for that matter with your family.”
“Plus this way, I have a new brother!” G’iah chimed in.  “What’s your favourite ice-cream flavour?”
“I haven’t had ice-cream very often,” Harry confessed.  “But when I did have it, I really liked the double chocolate chip mint flavour.”
“Not another one,” Talos groaned good naturedly.
“Yes!” G’iah shrieked, jumping into the air excitedly.  She saw Harry’s face and quickly reassured him that her dad was just kidding since his favourite flavour was strawberry.
In an effort to maintain the improved cheerful atmosphere, Talos repeated his earlier words to his daughter about strawberry ice-cream being a classic for a reason.  G’iah cheekily smiled at his words and Harry’s lips twitched.
Just as Talos was beginning to think that the Dursleys weren’t going to follow through with their promise of returning with Harry’s belongings, G’iah spotted Harry’s aunt making her way to them with long, purposeful strides, carrying a garbage bag that looked to be half-filled.  As she walked closer, Petunia seemed to have aged twenty years in the time that Talos, G’iah and Harry had last seen her with her family and she appeared to be more nervous than she was before.
It looked as if Petunia was going to dump the bag at Harry’s feet and leave without a word however, as she was leaving, Petunia paused and turned back to face Harry.  Fearing that she would say something to hurt Harry, Talos rose to his feet and rested a hand on the boy’s shoulder.
“That night when Lily died, nobody told me in person.  In their eyes, I wasn’t worth that.  I found out that my sister, who I had known for all of her life, was dead through a letter.  The magical world that you were born into is full of wonder but it’s also the world that took away my sister and nothing will ever change that.”
Unsure what to make of Petunia’s words, Talos said nothing and Petunia left the park.

April 15th Chapter Fifteen
AO3
Geillis smiles at seeing her. She is glowing when she into the hotel. Jamie trails behind, carrying their luggage. They return to the hotel that will be their temporary home, with Fergus. Jamie is looking for a place to rent, now that he has a wife and son, as he finishes his law education.

Mary stands at their entrance, Fergus in her arms.

“Hello my love .” she coos to Fergus. Leaning in, she takes the baby and whispers to Mary, “Thank you.”

Mary flushes, with a smile, “Your welcome, my lady.”

“He was no trouble?”

“Oh no, my lady, none at all.”

She smiles down at Hazel, who looks up at her. “Hello Hazel. I have something for you.” The little girl’s eyes grow bright. Reaching behind, where Jamie waits, she takes the little doll. With a flourish, she presents it to her.

“Oh, how lovely.” Her mum exclaims while Hazel hugs it close, “You needn’t , my lady.”

“We wished to. Fergus gets a rattle. We didn’t wish to leave Hazel out.”

Jamie hands his son the small, silver rattle. His hand fists around it.

“Come Hazel, let us leave the Lord and lady with their son.” Mary lifts her daughter up, “Thank you.”

“No, thank you. He is looking so healthy. That is all your gift to him.” Lord Fraser replies.

“I am honored to serve.”  She walks into the next room.

Geillis comes up and grins at Claire. Jamie, taken the cue that they need a few moments alone, takes his son.

“I shall go show Fergus the view from the balcony.”

“Careful.” His wife says.

“Always.” He kisses her cheek and carries him away.

“So, it seems it went well.”

Claire’s answering smile lights up her entire face. “Amazing, brilliant. Oh Geillis, I have never felt as close to another person. The pleasure was beyond anything I could describe. It had me craving him, acting in a most wanton manner.” She flushes, “in a way I never could imagine.”

“Oh?”

“It wouldn’t be ladylike to say. Some things should remain between a wife and husband.”

“I am so glad you took Mary’s advice over mine. I just thought that, it being your first time…”

“Don’t fret. We would have figured it out without either of your advice, honestly. Not that I don’t appreciate it. I know it comes from love.

“It does. Thank goodness you married Lord Fraser and not Frank.”

Claire shudders just thinking about her and Frank doing as… “Yes.”

Jamie comes back, gingerly carrying Fergus.

“Claire, it seems Fergus need a new nappy.”

Both women smile.

“I shall leave you to it then. Good luck Lord Fraser.”

He half bows to her. “Lady Duncan.”

She walks out.

“Come Jamie. Let me give you a lesson in nappy changing.”

VIVANT Episode 9 Thoughts!
Tumblr media
Hanae Natsuki returns as Newscaster!
Poor Kurosu. He had his trust in Nogi stepped on and he was dropped to the depths of hell kicking and screaming at Nogi every expletive and threat and just vicerally hating him. Then...the twist, the unintended reveal--Nogi's plan is exposed and now he's an enemy in his father and Tent's eyes. The time Nogi spent infiltrating Tent, fulfilling his desire to be acknowledged by his father, and intel gathering, was all gone like that. Then Kurosu realizing that Nogi had a plan all along and more than likely only let only a few people know (likely just him and Commander Sakurai) then regaining some of his trust in Nogi while they're both probably at death's door?? Wow.
(I actually think that Kurosu was also meant to be part of the Beppan group repatriated after the incident. I don't think he expected him to be captured)
Kurosu's trust in Nogi is going to be so terrifyingly powerful now.
This is one of my favourite shots, if only for the fact that the blurry red circular light looks like the hinomaru on the Japanese flag (a hint of Nogi's true allegiances?)
Tumblr media
Adyel's Connection and the Identity of the Monitor in Japan
Good lord the implications of this had me screaming.
This week we learned that:
After the attack by that group, Nogorn returned to the small camp where he and his wife were based, years later gave it to Adyel (whom he had found stowed away in a truck belonging to the same group that had been scooping away children to be trafficked!)
Remember: In episode 1, Adyel and Jamine (who witnessed her mum die in front of her, likely from the same group) find Nogi unconscious in the desert night and take him in.
Kaoru makes her way from the hospital where she's based with the WHO/WHI to Adyel's home to treat Nogi.
Adyel and Jamine have links to Tent (rescued by Nogorn)
Given the nature of her work, while most of the international intelligence agencies were working on trying to figure out who Tent was, I think Dr. Kaoru would have likely known about Tent and Adyel's connection to them (Let's assume for safety's sake -- I know international groups and diplomatic missions brief their staff on what to look out for)
In hindsight, Adyel's line to Nogi after he asks him why he helped him, "I'm grateful to the Japanese" is no longer some out-of-place line. Aaaah! (The Japanese in question likely wasn't Kaoru, but actually Nogi Suguru)
Since it's been revealed that many actions taken by Nogi and F, as well as Beppan, since episode 1 were all part of a long-term operation, I believe it's likely that Nogi and Beppan actually do not know anything about Adyel's connections to Nogorn and Tent.
Remember Sam? (RIP....that can't have been him though!?) He said that the CIA and other agencies had been keeping tabs on a new terror group but didn't know much about them. Public Security knew more and it seems that eventually through information-sharing, the CIA, Mossad and PS learned a bit more later on in the series. They still didn't know enough to see Tent's connection to Adyel , Jamine or potentially Kaoru (if she is a monitor or not).
EDIT: I read an article where Sam's described as his best friend from when he was in high school in the US. I'll live in denial-land thinking Sam is still alive and that that other guy in episode 5 was just some other guy.
EDIT2 : I know that Nogorn said that once Adyel got married he no longer participated in Tent's activities...but I wonder if he told anybody that he was part of Tent. (Maybe he told Kaoru the same line he told Nogi about how grateful he was to the Japanese and she actually inquired)
There's so much more, like the fluorite discovery, the explanation as to why Nogorn's been acquiring so much of the land in the west of Balka (he has one area left), the moles/informants (the one who leaked info about the fluorite discovery to the Balka government and the one who leaked the information about the 4 Beppan agents Nogi shot "dead"), the fact that Piyo, Batlacar, Nokor and Adyel were rescued by Nogorn, etc. (and that some of them have had a hand in saving him)
Also, we learn that Nogi was born in Balka. (but likely claimed his citizenship when he was found by the journalist Iida and brought back to Japan?
(I definitely cried a little during that flashback to Nogi's family's past shfkdsfjds)
Unintentionally funny scene (to me)
Nogi volunteers to help Tent acquire the missing funds quickly by playing with the credit exchange and this phone call made me laugh. (subtitled screenshot by me!):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Before the ending reveal, I feel like Kurosu would be livid if he had to witness Nogi doing a bad job of mimicking his voice and speech patterns)
Tumblr media
There might be 2 Monitors in Japan who sent those videos to Tent
I only say this because 1: we have several indoor shots of the hospital where the 4 members of Beppan are recuperating, then a few outdoor shots. Not just any outdoor shots, but shots from another building (rooftop? another room?). You need equipment for that. Or a cellphone with good camera I suppose. Plus the timestamps are too close to be one person (I mean, that doesn't stop them from having installed cameras and checked on them later)
And no matter what I do, I can't stop thinking it could be Dr. Kaoru -- it's a hospital.
If it turns out that the monitor/mole/sleeper agent is Dr. Kaoru...then Nogi will have suffered one of the worst betrayals in the series. (I feel F will be absolutely livid and furious, even)
I don't see Kaoru pulling a Nogi-Nogi F-went-to-millitary-school reveal. Someone else might be involved as well.
Nozaki Keeping Tabs on Potential Monitors?
I don't have too much time to rewatch since classes have returned but Public Security have been keeping their eyes out for Monitors I think since episode 1 (or at least trying to figure out what's been happening in Balka--otherwise why would Nozaki have been hiding in Al Zayir's building??). I wonder if that included Kaoru or not. It would be wild if, assuming it turns out she's a Monitor, she eluded multiple intelligence agencies.
Jamine's Unease Around Nozaki
I don't know if Adyel had maybe spotted Nozaki wandering around Balka or that town where Zayir killed himself, gathering information (Nozaki Charm Offensive didn't work) but maybe he warned Jamine about him? If he was "close" to Tent in the years after his rescue, maybe like with Nokor, Piyo and Batlacar, he knew Nogorn's story about Nogi and his wife. (Ali sort of did too, right?) and their betrayal and abandonment by the Public Security Agency. Maybe Jamine came to learn about it too.
(I had seen some tweets some weeks ago about how fans figured somehow she must know that Public Security Agent = Bad; maybe this week that possibility seems plausible?)
(More importantly: I'd like to know why Nogorn refers to her as a "Miracle Child".)
Nogorn's Hatred Towards Japan, "Japan is being targeted"
Akemi's last words to him was to take revenge on the country (or at least Public Security) for abandoning them. During the little found family dinner, the directors and writers give us a really nicely executed scene of Nogorn and his "family". It kinda neat that it "humanises" him (or shows how his side views him), but really, Nogorn has become the leader of an organization that has committed acts of terrorism to advance their goals in the last 3 years.
When Nogi asks Nogorn why Tent has, according to intelligence agencies, targeted Japan, Nogorn looks to be genuinely confused?Later he says that his hatred towards the government and Foregin Affairs/Public Security Agency have abated in recent years....but I wonder how much of that is true?
There was even a line where Nogorn says that his homeland is one where people care for their friends and neighbours
"The Japan that I knew was a place where friends and neighbours cherished one another and helped each other -- a compassionate country."
I find this was a jab at Public Security abandoning him and his wife...but I still think he's lying. With the reveal of Nogi's betrayal thanks to whoever the Monitor(s) in Japan is/are, I can see his hatred reigniting even though Nogi isn't part of Public Security.
Final Thoughts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I'll do a separate post with some theories for the finale later. I trust them both, but I'm actually worried some things will be rushed...but Miyazaki and Fukuzawa might surprise us. The directors and writers (btw this is Fukuzawa's story) have woven an intelligent, grand, adventurous story with mystery and intrigue with extremely slick and, I think, competent twists. Producer Iida has said that nothing in the series is done to mislead--I'm understanding that to mean that if something seems odd, there's a reason for it and we've seen this be the case time and time again.
With the reveals in this episode, I can only imagine how wild the rewatch of this series is going to be like.
Tumblr media
Also: Hayashi Kento as the younger Nogi Suguru. Oh my god. He did an outstanding job. That flashback was painful T_T)
As always, thank you for reading my random stream of thoughts each week. Tomorrow is the finale and I'm worried and excited. I don't want this adventure to end--it was too good!

I would very much like to hear about your trip to the U.S.
Okay buckle up this is gonna take a while-
I can't quite do it justice as it really was a "had to be there" experience and several years ago, but I'll describe it the best I can
So it was me, my dad and my uncle going out to see one of his friends. He's a DJ, they both like DJing, etc. The plan was to spend the first week in this really beautiful little coastal town they live in, then road trip the second week up to Sacramento where we'd get the plane home.
That did not happen at all.
So the first two days were spent in a BnB with this guy who was constantly hungover, and a much more chill couple. Pretty alright, had a nice view of the sea. The building was ugly in this really posh way, like we had an en suite bathroom but there were sconce lights on the mirror
My uncle's friend and his wife were pretty rich. And they didn't necessarily rub it in our faces, but my dad (who's very much a working-class "done everything for himself" kind of guy) did not appreciate the tour round the neighbourhood of all the cars this guy had sold.
And then The Fight.
This "friend" got absolutely hammered during a DJ session and just went off on my dad over nothing. My uncle was pretty mad and got us out of there. We met a couple of his friends who were arriving as we were leaving, as when they heard what happened they just took us out for dinner instead kskdks
So on the third day it was discovered our BnB had been double booked so we were literally just- being moved into someone's house. Like they let it out as an air BnB but they left a bunch of their personal belongings and it felt really weird, I felt like some kind of squatter. Also you could literally see the ex-friend's house at the end of the street, which my dad wasn't pleased about. Also the house owner's dog hadn't yet been picked up by the person who was gonna be looking after it and it has escaped twice, so before we were even unpacked we had the police on the doorstep (dog was fine, dw)
So the big downside of my uncle and his friend falling out was it put the kibosh on the roadtrip plan for the second week, and the BnB was only available until the Sunday so we were kind of panicking about where we could go.
Now we'd previously met this ex-friend's sister, and without hesitation she was apologising profusely for her brother's behaviour (her and their mum were both lovely so idfk how he ended up such an arse), and she offered us a place to stay free of charge.
And her place was tiny, mind. Like she didn't even have proper doorways between her bedroom, living room and kitchen, but she still put us up as best she could.
Now the good parts of the trip were that this town was gorgeous. Deer wandering around gardens, hummingbirds everywhere, so so beautiful. We went whale watching and saw humpbacks and sea lions co-hunting together, and I got to visit Monterey Bay Aquarium three times which is one of my favourite places I've ever been.
Tbh I think I've blocked some of it out because it was such an emotional rollercoaster. I kept a diary of the first week and that's really the only way I remember it, aside from the good parts like the aquarium and seeing hummingbirds in the flesh. ALSO one of the nice people we met there gave me a genuine oyster pearl, which is pretty cool.
Also people were constantly offering me alcohol on this trip even though I was like fifteen??? Bruh I can't even legally drink in my own country let alone here, and I don't drink anyway-
So yeah, pretty wild ride X)
