Your hair is only slightly messy, and your face was red and sweaty as if you were running.

"I hope you're not dressed like this for anyone else." Emily smirked. You had a habit of yearning for Emily when she wasn't able to help you. You've always tried to help yourself, but it hardly ever worked.

"I waited all day for you, Em... You know it's not the same when I do it." You mumbled, nestling your head into the crook of her neck.

"So, you haven't finished yet?" Emily asked, placing light kissing on your cheek and cupping your ass in her hands.

You shook your head, beginning to place light kisses on her neck, leading to her ear. "I just wanna taste you." You pleaded.

"I know how stressed you are. Just wanna help you." You whined into her ear, letting your hands slide between your two bodies to untuck her shirt from her pants.

Emily let out a soft moan once she felt your cold hands snake up her shirt to her bra. "What would I do without you?" She laughed through her uneven breath.

A smile tugged at your lips as you softly retracted your hands from beneath her shirt.

You bit your bottom lip in a smile as you ran to your shared bedroom in a loud giggle.

Emily stayed behind with a chuckle and a smile as she removed her coat and began unbuttoning her shirt on her way to the room, pushing the door open to see you sitting on the edge of the bed.

She slid her shirt off and let it fall to the floor, walking to slide herself between your legs. "All mine, yeah?" She whispered, pressing her lips into yours.

"Mhm." You nodded, holding her face into yours before pulling away. "Lay down." You suggested, she nodded and moved to sit beside you, pushing herself deeper into the middle of the mattress.

You turned around and crawled between her legs, moving to her face to give her a light kiss before moving to her pants. Unzipping them and pulling them off her legs.

You picked her thighs up and gave them open mouth kisses before you reached the fabric of her underwear. You looked up at her through your eyelashes, watching her face as you pushed her underwear to the side.

You bit your bottom lip to the sight of her glistening cunt. You adjusted yourself slightly before licking a stripe through her folds, earning a gasp from Emily's mouth.

You smiled, proud of the sounds you received. You wrapped your lips around her throbbing clit, sucking lightly and moaning at the taste.

{{{ WIP: The Spine Custom Ken Doll }}}

So, this is actually a project that I started back in the summer of 2020. My sister (@arcticusluna) had been making custom doll clothes for a while and she wanted to start a full doll customization project. When she told me about it we thought it would be fun to do it together. She was going to make a Rabbit custom and I would make a Spine custom.

I still have quite a bit left to go before finishing this. I still plan to add stripes, buttons, and pocket to the vest and to make some edits to the hat I ended up finding and settling with. I also had plans to make his long trench coat. but that will probably be a project for the future. I honestly just wanted to post this since I worked really hard on it but just haven't had the time/motivation to finish it yet.

The Rabbit my sister made will probably not be posted as the paint and glaze we used have deteriorated quickly on her over the last few years and we are unsure as to why, considering that we used the same materials and mine only has a few minor issues. We think it may have been the doll she started with as the rubber seemed to be a lot more flimsy and soft. She might post the clothes or parts of the doll later.

For the edits on the face I used 2-part Apoxie Sculpt. I would lightly score the rubber after removing the hair and then gently shape the apoxie to the face. After getting it as smooth as possible I lightly sanded it. The lines on his head and faced were referenced from the Hot on the Trail music video.

The fins were probably the most challenging part. I cut out paper to the sizes I wanted and made marks where I wanted the fins placed. Then I cut pieces of cardboard to size and covered them with a thin layer of apoxie to make them more sturdy and smooth. once the fins were cleaned up I scored the back of the doll and carefully molded the spines to the back. This was very tedious as they tended to not hold in place when the apoxie was still drying. It was also hard to get the spacing right so that the back was still movable/posable. They are not completely accurate to the Spine's but the bases had to be widened so that they would be more sturdy and attach to the back properly. Once everything was dry, I sanded it the best I could and began painting. I used FolkArt acrylic paints and then a glaze top coat. If I were to do this again I would probably have primed the doll first and use spray paints instead so that the layering was more even and smooth.

As I was working on the main doll, I was also working on the guitar. The guitar was made entirely from scratch since I really didn't like any of the doll/model guitars that I found. Most were extremely thin/cheap or not really to scale. I used my own acoustic guitar for scale and then drew out The Spine's guitar as close as I could with the proper dimensions. From there, I cut multiple layers of cardboard until I got the right thickness. The bottom two layers were full, the middle layers were hollowed out in the center, the top layer had the sound hole cut, and an extra layer for the neck was made and rested on top. I glued all these layers together, and like the fins, I covered it all with a thin layer of apoxie. I sanded it until smooth and sculpted in all the extra details such as the tuning pegs, the 20 frets, the bridge, and small pegs to hold the strap. Everything was then painted and glazed. The strap is made from a ribbon and pieces of faux leather glued together with the ribbon sandwiched between them.

The hat was a struggle. I could not find a single hat that was close to the one Spine wears so I tried a few times to make one by hand. In the end they ended up way to heavy/bulky when I tried to make molded ones and I couldn't get them to sit on his head quite right. (I have absolutely no clue how to make a fabric one.) A few months ago I randomly found a hat while shopping that was actually pretty close to Spine's. So I will be using this for now until I can either edit it or make a different one.

For this project the pants, shirt, and vest were all made from scratch. I have no prior experience with doll customizations at all and while I know how to sew, I have only ever sewn plush animals. I have never made clothes or my own patterns. To make my patterns I used the plastic wrap and tape method. This is when you wrap the body with plastic wrap, cover this with tape, and then mark out the pattern on the tape. You can then cut out the pattern and use it to measure out your fabric. This was very tedious since the dolls are so small. The small size made it very difficult to get clean seams and to have the pattern actually line up properly once fitted to the doll. In the images above you'll see that I had to make most of the patterns twice to get it the way I wanted. Another challenge was trying to get the clothes to lay properly around the fins without leaving giant holes in the fabric and without the fins tearing up the fabric around them. I ended up gluing an interface on the insides of the shirt and vest to help keep the fabric sturdy and then glued along the edges of the gaps to keep them from fraying. I ended up finding the shoes I needed on ebay.

Embiggening Pants

Hello everyone! I finally got a project off my mending pile, and I want to gloat about it.

Heads up, I'm talking about sewing for a body change. For me it's mostly a positive change, but I'm not attaching any moral judgment to it. Clothes need to fit me, not the other way round. But, if this isn't something you're game for, maybe sit this post out.

I got these dress pants before I came back to college and got seriously ill. I go up 15 lbs like clockwork during school semesters, and sickness adds more. They stopped buttoning around the waist and tum. So, last March, I pulled off the side belt loops, ripped these open down the side seams, cut the waistband apart, and took the hems out.

And then I...couldn't get it. It wasn't working in the brain. Got torn between canvas and ribbon and bias cut strips and hem finishes, and just couldn't make sense. So I chucked them in the "out of my sight" pile, took a trip to Germany, and gave up on them for a bit.

I then got a physical labor job, and I beefed up quite a bit. My waist measurement has gone down a smidge,,, but I now have Quads too. So.

I'm living with a quilter now who has marked mats for the rotary cutter, and everything clicked. In a fit of inspiration, I cut straight-grain canvas strips like three inches wide and French seamed them on the outside of each leg.

Then I cut a little cover patch to fill in the waistband. This took several tries and was hard.

(Also you can see in the bottom corner how I patched over the Tommy Hilfiger logo by the back pocket. My ass is not a billboard.)

But here's the result! I have a straight stripe down the outside of each leg, so it looks original to the pants. Nobody's gonna see the Frankenstein waistband under my belt or through my shirt. I also lost the original belt loops, so I hope my replacements hold up!

I probably will want to elasticate the center back to help them stay up. (Sew my last sewing post about doing that to a skirt.) But I'll give them a few washes and wears first to see if the fabric settles. Or my body changes!

Goth DIY: Altered Clothing part 1

Since some of you crafty goths were interested in seeing the clothing I've altered, I decided to compile it all in one place! I hope I can inspire your creations,give you ideas, and teach you new techniques. This will be a long post, since I've been making alterations to my clothing since high school, which also means some of these projects aren't as polished as others, since they were made when I was newer to DIY and have mistakes I've since learned from, but that's okay! Goth doesn't have to be polished and perfect, and don't let the fear of mistakes stop you from creating!

I've already done posts about the shorts and pants I've gothified, so part 1 will focus on t-shirts, camisoles, and button-up shirts. Part 2 will have sweaters, skirts, and dresses. Some alterations are as easy as adding safety pins or lace trim, and others involve more sewing. Lots of these are very beginner-friendly projects and take less than an hour. All of these items were completely plain when I got them--anything metal, lace, embroidered, or painted that you see was added by me. I'll add more about each garment in the image descriptions. As always, feel free to message me if you want better or more thorough instructions or DIY advice. I'm here to be a resource to my fellow crafters! <3

(Also, please pardon the cat hair and my hair on the clothes--I don't take perfect pictures. A couple pics are also old since those shirts are in storage so I could make room for my winter wardrobe, so you'll notice a change in backdrop and a dirty mirror.)

Let's start with t-shirts and camisoles! Use an old shirt, a thrifted shirt, a shirt from Walmart, etc.! I like to get plain unisex t-shirts from Walmart and paint on them using freezer paper stencils, bleach them, shred them, and/or add safety pins to them. The camis also came from Walmart, and I changed the necklines and added lace trim to make them cuter.

To make a sweetheart neckline on a cami, you can cut it, or you can just pinch the middle and sew it into place (I did that for all of them except the black and white one--that one ended up a little lower-cut than I meant it to, so I decided to stick with the pinching method). The lace trim I used on the black camis isn't stretchy, but still works just fine, as long as you pin it into place while you're wearing the shirt and stretch the shirt a bit as you sew to maintain stretch in those areas. Stretchy lace, like I used on the pink and red camis, works a bit better, but is harder to find. I still like pinning the lace while I'm wearing the shirt to get the placement down, but if you wear a bra, make sure you're wearing the one you plan on wearing with the shirt while placing the lace. I found it doesn't sit right with bras that fit a little differently than the one I based the placement on.

The long-sleeved Emily the Strange shirt has a neat detail, albeit a wonky one because my placement is a bit off sometimes. You'll notice two little striped triangles at the bottom. I cut slits in the shirt and added triangles of striped stretchy fabric, then sewed zippers over top of them to hide the seams and add extra detail. I also sewed the zippers on with red thread for contrast.

My button-ups are a bit more involved. I treat them like how I treat shorts--patches, lace, embroidery, pins, grommet tape, D-rings, charms, chains, oh my! The pink one is my most recent, and I'm so proud of it. All of the patches came from ToothxNail on Etsy, except the Rat King patch, which came from Katiewhittleart on Etsy. The flowers on the collar were buttons that I glued onto flat-back pins from a craft store (I used E6000 glue). Made super quick collar pins that I can remove when washing the shirt or put on something else when I want.

The orange button-up was by far the simplest. I just added lace trim to the cuffs and cropped it (it had been high-low, but I wanted to wear it tucked into a skirt and the long back was annoying me). I also added collar clips with a chain that I got at a craft fair, but that's more like styling an accessory with it than altering it, since I can just un-clip them.

The leather jacket is old and doesn't fit well, so I don't wear it anymore, but I kept it because it was my first leather jacket. Adding the sew-on studs and faux-fur trim on the neck took the longest. You'll also notice that a mouse chewed a hole in the outer shell on the pocket.

I'm usually not very timely with my craft builds, but this year I managed to get my act together to make something that suited the spooky month of October: The Other Mother's Button Box, as seen in Laika's adaptation of Coraline.

I made this box entirely from scratch with recycled paperboard from food packaging, covering it with fabric and using fabric spray paint for the stripes. I didn't get the shape of the box quite right compared to the one in the film, but I still really like how this one turned out. Weirdly I chalk it up entirely to the ribbon, something about the finished bow looks extra-amazing and I think it's thanks to double stacking some sheer ribbon over red satin ribbon. It gives it that extra bit of glittery shine that you can see on the ribbon on the box in the film. I think it adds to the sinister vibe of this box... How could something that looks so pretty contain something so frightening?

Shout-out to the very nice floorsperson at Michaels who helped cut the fabric for this box, and who was very excited to hear what I was using it for. Hopefully you see this so you know how the box turned out!

in fun news, we got a new sample of our collared sweaters!

i’m really happy with a lot of the changes we’ve made, including making the sweater longer and bringing the neckline up and i really like the way the printed collar is looking. i think we’re getting really close to finalizing our prototype!

there are a few changes that need to be made:

first, we’re gonna add a couple more buttons to the back of the neck so that it has an adjustable fit, since not all necks are built the same

second, i actually need to size down. the material is pretty stretchy so even wearing the size “40” (sized for waist measurement, mine is 42”) it’s too loose in the waist and there’s still stretch left in the bust, so i’ll be trying a 38 and maybe a 36. (it is very normal with stretchy fabrics for the resting measurement of the fabric to be significantly lower than the intended fit). you can tell, esp in the tucked in photos, that this size just doesn’t fit me properly.

third, the shoulder seam is quite low even on me and i have somewhat broad shoulders, so we’re gonna bring that in a bit

fourth, we’re gonna also try another fabric. i like the ribbing on this knit, it has a really nice look to it, but it gets a liiiittle itchy in the arms. this was mostly mitigated by putting the sweater through a single wash cycle with gentle detergent on cold and honestly i don’t think it would bug most people, as i am extremely sensitive to textures and it was still absolutely wearable for me, but if i can have absolutely no itchiness that would be my preference. unfortunately this does mean we’ll be looking at thinner knits with smaller ribbing, so they may not work out, but we’ll see!

and last, we’ll be changing the lace… at some point. we haven’t gotten there yet haha

1010 Malt Shop - Green Plushie

It's done. It's finally done. 1 week of blood, sweat, and tears (mostly blood), and he's done.

But I don't have a good enough camera nor photography skills to really capture his true charm ;w;

Anyway, this is the project I've been working on lately. No particular thing really prompted this. Like most things I do, it was started on a whim and finished with will power. I don't really have much experience with plush making or sewing, so despite his obvious faults, I still think he turned out pretty nicely for an amateur.

As per usual, I didn't have enough foresight to document the process, but I can nonetheless talk about the experience and point out some details of it.

Firstly, he's a pretty large lad. Here he is compared to the official DJSS plush and one of the test prints I did of "Melon Float."

Counting his straw, he's about 16 inches tall. I wasn't counting on him being so big, so I don't really know what I'm gonna do with him now...

I say this took a week, but I probably could have quartered that time if I had a working sewing machine, but since I didn't, the majority of the time was spent just sewing the thing together. (Btw, pattern over here.) The only fabric details that weren't hand-sewn are the circle/stripe details on his pants and shoes, and the bow/buttons on his shirt, which were all glued on.

The base pattern didn't come with any clothes, so I just adapted the body patterns into clothes. Structurally, he's basically wearing a second skin~ I did think about making the gloves for the sake of accuracy, but at that point, the only skin he'd be showing is his face, and I wanted to keep some soft parts out since his clothes are so stiff. They're so stiff, they can stand on their own and be stacked on top of each other without falling over.

(The plush has a harder time standing than his clothes do...)

Speaking of the clothes, let me say right now that it bothers me more than anyone else that the paint details don't color-match his pants. I was so high on the euphoria of starting this project that when I was out getting supplies, I saw some glow-in-the-dark paint and thought it'd be a great idea since he's a robot and all. The color on the bottle looked close enough at the time, and the original plan was that only the face would be painted with the other details being felt, but on top of me forgetting that effects paint takes a long time to build up layers, the green also dried differently than I thought it would, so it threw everything off, but I didn't have the patience to suck it up and repaint everything with a better color match. I did try to add a light gradient with my pastels like in the original art work, but it turned out so light that it's barely perceivable and totally not worth the clamminess I get when I touch chalk.

I think the most time-consuming part was his hair. While sewing the body together took 2 days, the clothes 2 days, and painting 1 day, the hair took about 3 as I had to figure out essentially how to do it myself on the fly. The first day was mostly trial and error. I did find a couple of online tutorials about how to get this loopy yarn hair, but the ones that I found both required tools that I didn't have. Eventually, I figured out a way to make it work, but I feel like it was less than efficient:

Basically, his hair is made with chunks of yarn that are tied together, and each chunk is individually sewn into place. I didn't count, but I think there are 13-14 hair chunks total to give him a full head. I do like how I made his bangs uneven to mimick how I draw his hair, but I couldn't quite pull off having his distinct hair-part and I couldn't figure out how to give the illusion of half his hair being straight without it looking weird. (I did try cutting the loops to let the strands be straight, but I didn't like the look of it, so I kept them all loopy).

This is a weird thing to say out of context, but I'm especially proud of the back of his head. Originally I was just going to paint on his undercut (which I'm glad I didn't because this paint REALLY hardens the cotton), so I got the bright idea to sew on individual strands of yarn for it. I think the effect is great, but I would not wish it upon my worst enemy, because to get the effect, I had to sew on each. strand. individually. The day I made the face poll, and said that was going to be a break day? I wound up doing this instead, and it took just as long to sew in those 20+ strands of yarn as it did the rest of his hair.

To segway into that poll, as you can see, I went with option 2 with some slight edits. Just the white/green eyes looked a little plain to me, so I added my usual dark pupil and added a green-star glitter to the center. I'm the one that has to live with this thing for the foreseeable future, so I made some executive decisions. Unfortunately, there were a few errors while painting, which you can clearly see in the above pictures OTL. I did try to seal off my painting areas with tape, but it still bled and stained in a few places. I don't really know if it's possible to clean the stains without ruing the rest of the face, but if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

There are a few extra details that I guess are worth pointing out: he's actually wired. I put in some armature wire so he'd be able to move his limbs despite the stiff felt but... I didn't secure them that well, and the wire for his arms got displaced, so I currently can't bend them ;3;. I'd have to open him up again to replace it, and I REALLY don't want to undress him again to get to his back. The worst thing about this plush is that his clothes are so stiff that he's actually very hard to dress.

The wire in his legs is mostly still in place, so he can at least (kinda) sit.

I think the last thing worth talking about is the ice cream accessory. It was really simple to make (it's just air dry clay over foil + extra pieces), but it's cute, so I wanted to point it out~

It's a hair clip, so it can be taken on and off. Theoretically, it could be worn by a person, but it's a little heavy to be wearing it all day~ The camera/lighting really blew out the colors, but I think it turned out to be a nice creamy french vanilla color like I really wanted~

Other details like the glitter on his eyes/cheeks can't really be captured on my shitty ipod camera, but rest assured that he is pleasantly sparkling~

I think my biggest takeaway from this project has been materials: I thought that using felt would be a great alternative to having to buy an entire yard of fabric for a one time project, but besides the paint, it was the hardest material to work with. If I have to pick and choose, next time I think the body will be felt, and the clothes will be cotton, or maybe I'll actually invest in some fleece, so it can be soft all the way~ Since the clothes are removable, I could theoretically make him his default sailor suit and just replace the straw with his proper hair loop to convert this into a "canon" design plush, but we'll see what the future holds. I did get the felt colors to make my *other* babygirl, but given this experience, I may hold off on making him until a much later date.

Phryne's third outfit of "Murder Under the Mistletoe" (Season 2, Episode 13) is a festive ski suit, with a red and white coat, cream pants, and tall leg warmers.

Appropriate to the holiday, Miss Fisher's coat is a rich red and mink checkerboard patterned wool and faille. It has a white insert down the front with eleven buttons with beveled centers and a pointed tip. Two inserts of main fabric, also with pointed ends, are seen beneath each arm, ending at her hip and connecting the longer sections of the front and back. A jaunty belt in the same fabric attached with white buttons at the back adds visual interest and balance to the coat. Her cuffs are trimmed with white faux fur and triangular wool faille flaps are attached to the base, which is an original 1920's skiwear design to ensure visibility in the snow.

Her cream pants are woollen twill, split and buttoned slightly above her calf. Long wool leg warmers with red stripes at the top and ankle add a layer of warmth and fashion to her look.

Prior to the twentieth century, skiing as a sport was dominated by men, and women's skiwear was limited to long, heavy skirts. After the first winter Olympics in 1924, specialized skiwear garments became widely popular, and it became acceptable for women to don the much more functional trousers on the slopes.

Phryne finishes her ensemble with red patent leather ski shoes, designed to snap into wooden skis, and a pair of clear crystal earrings.

Shenanigans are happening.

Okay, not really shenanigans.

I found instructions to make an Edwardian skirt and we made one for Halloween out of this suiting wool we had lying around. And I LOVE it.

I've been wearing it CONSTANTLY. It's light but still warm; it's so hydrophobic that I didn't realize until hours later that I'd accidentally spilled coffee on it on Halloween and I was able to just blot it off; it's fitted at the top but got a great swirl at the hem; since I made it, it's the correct length to be long without worrying about it dragging on the ground; and I can dress it up or down as I see fit.

So when it came time to put together a list of things I wanted for the holidays, I realized that one of the major things that I really wanted was a bunch more of these skirts. Long, swirly, made out of hardy natural fibers. So I could just transition into a Skirt Wearer. The problem being that we don't, in general, have on hand the amount of fabric needed to make another skirt in my size, even in a poly. BUT there's a discount fabric store less than an hour away from us that has a decent selection of wool for less than a third of the price you would pay buying new. So what I asked for was a trip there and a budget to buy enough fabric for a few skirts.

I was thinking maybe three more, but the prices were even lower than I expected and I ended up with enough for six skirts — 4 wool and 2 linen, 3 mid/heavy weight and 3 light weight. Also a bonus tatting needle because I wanted to try tatting lace and it was only $6 and came with instructions and a simple pattern, so why not?

Another bonus? That greyish green one right above the houndstooth? It looks like stripes, but it's actually wool corduroy! Which was a pleasant surprise! I picked it out on the color alone, the back of it looks similar to the Lothlorien cloaks, but it was folded up on a shelf and, like most textured fabrics, was folded inside-out to protect the texture. So I didn't actually see that it was corduroy until I got it up to the counter and unfolded it a bit to get a better sense of it.

That one and the houndstooth, I think, are going to be split down the front and get some buttons. The other two wools are just going to be plain. The linen skirts I'm thinking about doubling up as petticoats for under the wool skirts on particularly cold days. Which might end up including a removable ruffle. This was apparently a Thing around the turn of the century. The ruffle would add some extra fullness to the bottom of the skirt, protect the actual hem of the petticoat from damage (since it would be worn and laundered more often than the skirt), and be sewn to keep the gather, and then basted onto the pettycoat for easy removal to wash or mend or replace it.

I suspect I'm gonna be too lazy to actually do that. So either one of the linen skirts will just have a permanent ruffle, or I'll make a removable ruffle and it'll just sit in the back of my closet.

But I'm GREATLY looking forward to this, especially with all I learned from the first skirt.

Also tatting? The lowest bar for learning a new needlework craft. It's a single long needle, and there's only one stitch. There's some trickyness to it starting out, i've gotten my rings knotted several times. But I do think part of that is because I'm using embroidery floss. I do actually have the correct yarn, I just have to go digging for it, and I had the embroidery floss more easily to hand.

He’s worn it before, and he knows. The last time he’d put the thing on, you’d nearly jumped him in the pool house, towel tossed onto the floor as a makeshift pillow for your knees as you lowered yourself before him.

The white shirt he’s coupled with the striped bathing suit just makes matters worse, the fabric nearly see-through in the sun, giving you glimpses of the tanned skin that lies beneath. A few buttons undone showing off the top of his chest, your mouth watering just at the sight.

Heaving a breath. you sit up, yanking your cover-up off and tossing it at Javi. He lets out a surprised noise as the fabric lands in his lap, and you stick your tongue out at him, striding towards the pool, stepping into the warm water with a loud sigh. Pointedly loud, pointedly similar to the moans you let loose in bed.

It’s the strangest feeling as you sink beneath the surface of the water, salt tickling your noise, the warmth bordering on bath water, but refreshing all the same. The haze of weed in the back of your mind adds to the feeling, making you feel more than weightless beneath the water. You stay beneath until the need for oxygen pulls at your lungs, and when you surface, Javi is still watching, standing now, slowly unbuttoning his shirt until it falls open, revealing that bronzed chest beneath.

“Am I allowed to join you,” he calls, stretching his arms above his head, leaning up on his toes. It only makes the muscles in his legs more defined, the soft curve of his belly all the more inviting as you rake your gaze over him, “or are you upset with me now?”

“Get in the water, Javi,” you reply, straightening until your feet hit the bottom of the pool, the water coming up to your chest once you’re standing, “and get over here.”

He does as asked, wading through the water until he’s right in front of you, palms skimming along the surface. He doesn’t touch you, not entirely, his body just a breadth of an inch away from yours. If you inhaled deep enough, puffed your chest out just slightly, your skin would be touching his. “Hi cariño,” he says quietly, looming over you, those tousled curls falling across his forehead perfectly, brown eyes glittering in the sunlight.

You know it’s not just the weed. Your man is a sight to behold. Javi Gutierrez is beautiful.

Mischievous grin on his face, he closes the distance between you, both arms sliding around you, pulling you close, your wet chest against his dry one. Pouches! A loose guide

I love making little pouches, they take up so little yarn, and there are endless ways to make one. Hopefully this guide will inspire you to make some little pouches of your own!

vague recipe-esq instructions and examples below cut!

You will need:

yarn

the means and know how to turn yarn into a rectangle (be it knit, crochet, or any other method)

a bit of fabric for lining

sewing needle & thread, and a smidge of know how

ribbon or a button (only a maybe on this one (depends on your pouch))

Step 1: Make a Rectangle!

You can knit or crochet it. Most of the pouches in this post as examples were knit, with crochet closures, because that's my favorite way to do it. I like 2 row stripes, or mosaic knitting my rectangles for a bit of visual interest. Mosaic knitting is a technique where you strategically slip stitches while changing colors every 2 rows. I recommend it especially if you are wanting to try out knitted colorwork for the first time, as unlike other methods of knitted colorwork you don't have to worry about floats or working with both colors at the same time. The mosaic knitting charts I use are from Gannet Designs.

Since little pouches are one of my relaxing projects I don't plan them out really, I just make a rectangle and mess around with folding after the rectangle is done. Different ways of folding the rectangle will result in different proportioned pouches, find the shape you like best!

Step 2: Sewing/ Lining

Knit & crochet will stretch, so to prevent losing any treasures I put inside I like to line my pouches. Lining is also a great way to practice your hand sewing so you aren't too rusty when it comes time to repair your favorite shirt that just got a tear.

sew pouch together

sew lining together

sew lining and pouch together

or

sew lining to pouch (inside out, flip right side out before sewing final edge to hide raw edges)

sew pouch together

or

Sew pouch together

flip pouch inside out

Whip stitch lining to pouch (fold edges of lining to hide raw edges)

Step 3: Closure

If you want to plan out you pouch ahead of time, you can incorporate a flap or drawstring holes while you are making your rectangle.

For knit drawstring holes *knit 2 together, yarn over* where you want the drawstring to be.

For crochet, *half double crochet, chain 1, skipping every other stitch*

I think it looks nicer if there's a bit of fabric on the edge of the pouch after the drawstring hole row. For my drawstring pouches I tend to add all the drawstring stuff at the very end. I crochet around the mouth of my pouch for a couple rows, do the drawstring row, a couple more rows, then finally a round of chaining 5 or more and slip stitching in the next stitch for a fun ruffle at the edge.

you can also knit an after thought drawstring, similar to the crochet one I describe (a few rows, drawstring row, a few more rows, a fun bind off). You will want to work in the round, so having familiarity with dpns or the magic loop method will be useful.

Flaps are also an option! and there's a a lot to explore. Just make any shape, rectangles and triangles are both great picks, but you can get super creative with flaps. Find a beautiful crochet leaf applique? Perfect flap! Circle? Why not! A rectangle where you cast on and bind off stitches on one side for a chunky fringe? I only just thought if it as an example and now I think I gotta try it, cus it sounds super cool!

Step 4 Extras!

Pockets have all the same fun & potential as flaps

String beads on your yarn before you make your rectangle. You can add the beads as you work in a pattern or let it be more random, either way you have a lovely glitzy pouch! You can also add beads to the ends of your drawstring

Give your pouch a face, arms, legs, tail, wings, to turn them into a fun and functional companion for your adventures.

make a long rectangle for a carrying strap, or smaller loops to loop the pouch onto a belt of off the strap of a larger bag. You can make extra long friendship bracelets for a strap that doesn't stretch, and marcrame has a ton of potential for cool patterns!
