GtWAC Day 13 : 3 Different Genres

Clawing my way to catch up (We late late, but we WILL finish) 😭

Today's Prompt is Fic Recommendations in 3 different genres💕

First up is an INCREDIBLE work of Adventure Fantasy : Wick's End

@eightyuh Does an a phenomenal job taking a wild and unexpected concepted and pulling it together into a poignant metaphor. While Wick's End is full of hilarious moments, the comedy never seems to overtake the weight that the story carries. While we can laugh at Glen's expense, there is something deeply relatable and vulnerable about him as a character, making it so easy to feel for him and sympathize with his predicament.

Frankly all of the main cast has incredible premises that are both so out there, yet when shown in the context of their world they feel at home. It's something about the combination of the characters being real enough that you're able to both laugh at them, but also take their issues seriously- A dog struggling to understand human society is a fun and hilarious concept, but theres the weight of his realness?? The wanting of acceptance when others can't see him for what he is??? Like the skill to pace a story where the reader can bounce from laughing to feeling swept off their feet by the reality of their situation??

Each chapter has left me hooked and foaming at mouth for the next release- just ??? JGSFJKDGFKJ

I COULD GO ON FOR DAYS???

NEXT UP IS THIS ABSOLUTE GEM OF A OF A SCIFI HORROR SHORT- ANOTHER GTWAC CREATION TO BOOT!!! I read this a few nights back and was on the edge of my seat!! I absolute love the voice of the main character. @creatorofuniverses writes Casper in a way that genuinely makes them feel like a person I would know. They really do feel like you're everyday person got shoved into the widest job, and I am HERE for it. Without spoiling too much- I LOVED the creature descriptions, both aesthetics but also the mannerisms??? My gosh it just left me feeling so on edge??? Just such a great concept executed in a truly fun yet tense way! I would love to see more of Casper if you ever decide to use the premise as more than a short 😭💕

Finally we have the category of Dark Romance, with none other than @bittykimmy13 / @kendsleyauthor and their amazing fic The Clandestine Queen. Now this made for a wonderful read!! The premise is both so unique and also so uneasy??? There's a palpable tension throughout that just scratches something deep in my brain. Fantastic dialogue, wild premise, and a wonderfully competent female lead?? What more could a gal want? The interactions between Lorelei and the much more cold Andres are truly Dark Romance Magic (especially in the follow up piece) 😭 This just ticks every box for me and I cannot recommend this highly enough. The style of writing is captivating, the characters are intriguing, and the premise wonderfully unique!! The delivery from @kendsleyauthor as always never disappoints!!💕

heres something incredible niche. with the help of raymap i spent a few hours making an entire height chart of almost all the characters and creatures (and a plum) in rayman 3, minus the absolute largest ones

heres the whole thing uncropped (12.8 mb, 26270x2383)

and here it is condensed into like the most important individual characters

(and that link too, 7010x2035)

below is some notes about it, a whole bunch of rambling and stuff, i put a lot of effort into this so check this out

this is taken with raymap by looking at each map in the orthographic front view, relocating every object i need to -1500 Y position with 0 for everything else (minus x position just so they could be side by side). the rotation and scale is all set to 1. almost all of the objects are the first frame of their idle animation

only exceptions for the rotation were CagouFlaps (hoodloon), francesco (red bird), piranha and Dirigible, all for convenience. one of the refluxes (the fight one with the glowy face) is also an exception to the animations thing, hes using the first frame of an animation different from his idle one so he stood more upright

the arrangements i took were like this. i had to take 43 screenshots like this (with the transparent screenshot option) and then align them using rayman as an anchor, as i included him in every screenshot

the fact that they were all at the same exact Y position is why the characters are sometimes slightly below or slightly above where the floor is supposed to be, thats just how the object is positioned in the game itself basically and i chose to leave that in. i ignored that for my height sorting though

i didnt use all screenshots, i just excluded everything that was larger than a mawpaw because the filesize in this chart was already large enough. im not bloating them with something that was likely going to end up well over 10k pixels tall and wide

i also excluded a bunch of inanimate objects like piggy banks and gems and cages and stuff, but i have screenshots with them

i also straight up forgot francesco so its not in the chart. but heres its size relative to rayman, probably would have been between the orange glowy fairy and either a grim or andre

this slightly tinier colorful hoodmonger is just from the final boss fight, which is a separate object family from the three other types of hoodmonger (which are all actually the same family)

the other fairy thingy (luisane) got kinda botched in the transparent screenshot so i just screenshotted it how it appeared in raymap itself directly so it has a black background. also i know the rat looks really weird, its just Like That its not modeled on the bottom, in retrospect i really should have rotated that one sideways too

the flabar/bonton has wings but theyre solid white (bc the texture for them is actually missing in final, one of the demos had them) and they blended into the background oops. heres a snippet from a larger transparent version of the chart

the way i actually sorted all the heights is i generally ignored stuff like hair and hats, thats why some teensies ended up being outright taller than rayman

also yeah i dont know why specifically generic teensies are so tiny compared to all the other ones. my guess is that their size was just leftover from the previous games and didnt account for the ones original to rayman 3 being scaled up, or something?

i love the teensy heights in this though i love that some are taller than rayman and the apparent slight variety present in their heights (even if you cant tell it at all and theyre all shaped the same really)

anyway i also unfortunately had to leave some guys out since i just couldnt move their objects for some reason, those being -iceglob (globox stuck in a block of ice unsurprisingly enough) -sk8guard (the teensy that catches you in teensy highways) -ProjCanon (thingy that you have to aim at celoche to damage it) -wbug (little bugs that are in bog of murk supposedly but i never saw them outside of raymap)

oh well i can finangle a way to get them out of perspective view i hope

I absolutely created more than a few female Night Elves on my friend’s World of Warcraft account when I was a deep-in-the-closet preteen. Naomi Kanakia’s “Everquest” dives deep into this relationship between avatar and self. By literalizing the fantasy of this transformation, Kanakia captures a uniquely trans feeling of escape that gaming allows and ends in a space that is both melancholy but also undeniably hopeful and at peace.

Anthony's Stupid Daily Blog (691): Tue 6th Feb 2024

I spent the day watching all the Futurama movies and was happy to discover how well they all still stand up. I was so happy when I found out that Futurama was coming back as a series of direct to DVD movies as I'd been severely deflated by the series run being so cruelly and stupidly cut short. How could those doodoo brains at Fox not realize what a gem of a show they had on their hands. I'm guessing that the ratings weren't what they were expecting but I bet The Simpsons took a few years to find an audience too, if they'd have just given it time to blossom I'm sure they would have been happy with the results. The first movie Bender's Big Score is perhaps the crowning achievement of Futurama in terms of writing because it's so well plotted out and self referential. It might be the best full length adaptation of a television series I've ever seen. Also watching these movies gave me inspiration for yet another tattoo. As you know I like to combine ideas when it comes to tattoos and The Beast With A Billion backs begins with a short psychedelic credit sequence featuring the Planet Express ship done up in the colours of the Yellow Submarine which looks absolutely beautiful. I'm a huge Beatles fan and now thanks to Futurama I have inspiration for a tattoo which combined two of my great passions. I now have several ideas for tattoos that I can put on my left upper arm along with the V For Vendetta symbol and the Buster Keaton poster. After the Richie and Eddie tattoo on my bicep I can get this Futurama / Beatles tat next to the V symbol and then get the image of Philip K Dick's face underneath that. After that I'm planning on getting the Bart Simpson raven and the Kodama from Princess Mononoke perched on Buster's camera. By the end of the year the top of my left arm should look very colorful indeed and I'll have made great progress on my dream sleeve tattoo. I tuned into tonight's Hollyoaks which culminated in Dilly (MY GOD SHE'S SO FUCKING FIT) grappling with Sienna at the top of the stairs and eventually being knocked off and landing on top of a piano. I've seen plenty of cartoons where pianos get dropped on people but this must be the first time someone has dropped a person on a piano. I'm also not sure how the fuck this happened because there was quite a high barrier at the top of those stairs so Sienna must have either uppercutted Dilly like a Popeye cartoon or she must have scooped her up and flung her over like Hulk Hogan slamming Andre the Giant. Elsehwere "Kitty" continues to settle in to her new life posing as her dead friend but because I've just realized that Kitty sounds like Leigh Francis' portrayal of Christina Aguilera in Bo Selecta and now the character is ruined for me.

1) Do you have any rituals before working on your beautiful art? 

Ahehehe thank you *blushes* it’s really not thaaat beautiful, could always improve, but eh I guess all creators just like to kick themselves in the bumhole, right?

I do have a specific ritual I like to participate in, as a matter of fact. I like to stand buck ass naked and bask in the moonlight the night before. I make sure I’ve lit twelve candles in different colors for the muse to enter my body juuuust right. I chant a secret demonic enn as I cleanse my room with incense, and then I draw a pentagram on my bedroom’s floor with the blood of my enemies.

You see, I’m a simple gal. I need to do something? I summon a demon to possess my body and let them do it on my behalf.

My art? It is not mine. It is the work of various hell imps that have decided to posses my body in order to do artsy things, in exchange of some play/cuddle time with my precious fluffy murder munchkins (my cats).

(But really I just sit on my ass in front of the laptop and browse pinterest for inspo pics and put on my playlist on youtube to get in the mood....AND THEN I DO NOT FUCKING WORK AT ALL and then I try the next day. Easy peasy *cries*)

Seb/Agni is also special, bc Agni is *taller* than Seb, you know what I mean? their skin tone is so different and I just love imagining Seb’s pale complexion next to Agni’s delicious, rich, Indian spicy tan....can you tell I’m a hoe for Agni? cuz I am.

Laugh, yes, while writing Libreria del Pecado. It's the fic where I "gave myself permission" to write what and how I wanted, and if something made me laugh, even if it was dumb/ridiculous? It stayed in.

I remember such gems as "fake date - real boner" and Martin musing on the new life of crime he had with Andres, and I wrote the line "He’s rudely brought out of his Reverie in Sax and Violins by a knock at the front door."

Because... sex and violence, lol - absolutely his life with Andres in that fic. XD

Cry? Mmmmaybe? I know I was emotionally drained after writing their Last Time in the last chapter of "Love, instead." It broke me so much that to this day I can't finish that fic. I have a couple of chapters ready for part 2 but I can't bring myself to finish it because that ending.

I switch tenses like whoa. And I edit several times before having my beta (usually the lovely @the--sound--of--rain <3) goes through the fic but I always seem to just-- ignore tense changes. Mid-sentence, tenses mean nothing to me! ✨

Pluto is your friend.

Yes, the shadow is your friend. Pluto often gets a bad rap for being this torturous unknown force that comes to destroy/transform but that is not the case. Pluto is all about transformations, yes but transformations for the better. He is the garbage man. He gets rid of the trash. Toxic relationship? Ok! Pluto will rip it from you. It will hurt. You will cry. But after you’ve used up all the kleenex, you will have spidey senses. You will see those red flags before they and their cheap cologne darken your doorstep. You will level up. And while you’re doing that, Pluto will let you watch as he terrorizes your abuser. Pluto is justice. Not like Libra where all is fair and balanced by the scales. Pluto is Karma. Karmic Justice at that. The equalizer. He will show you the ugly of all those who wore the mask of ‘friend’. See, Pluto gets nasty rep because he forces you to see what you’d love to ignore. He makes you feel what society tells you to be numb to. Euphoria, Obsession, jealousy, bliss, even paranoia. Pluto is the depths. You need to feel. Jealousy is not an ugly emotion, ENVY is. They are not synonymous but people use them interchangeably. Pluto can be jealous, but jealousy is simply the sensation that something important might be taken from you. Envy is seeing someone have something, and hating them for it/not wanting them to have it. Pluto is not envious. He rules the underworld and in his realm live all of Earth’s riches. Gems, diamonds, gold, jewels. He is the wealthiest-- what could he possibly be envious of? Paranoia is equated to him too, but this is simply an exacerbation of his skill at being prepared. Pluto is a GENERAL. He wants you to have a PLAN. And when you don’t he forces you to get one, whether you’re prepared or not. Pluto is Chess, not Checkers. Pluto is the bandaid ripper. Pluto's love is cold and hard but empowering. He exposes. Shows the ugly. Friend’s you weren’t sure were enemies? Pluto rips their masks off so you have no choice but to see their ugliness. You will be disenchanted. Maybe even heartbroken. But a moment of grief for a lifetime of healthy happiness is Pluto’s payoff. Pluto also represents in the chart the area where we can most empower ourselves and elevate our lives and our dignity. Pluto will disempower your just to elevate you and make your story of failure a story of victory. He’s the ULTIMATE glow up King. Pluto shows us where we can triumph if we find a way to revolutionize or otherwise radically transform/change ourselves internally, despite our external challenges. Plutonic cleansings are like working out or giving birth. Excruciatingly painful to the point where you feel like you want to die but the result is a whole new body/person you’re absolutely in love with. He is purging.  Again, Pluto is about evolution. He does not and will not allow you to stay stagnant/in one stage of your life. He forces you to grow and if you won’t he has no qualms with making you. Pluto is not soft. 

Speaking of which. This includes his influence in the bedroom. Often people will talk about plutonic influence in a dark way. As if his influence sexually is something dark/forbidden or something to be ashamed of. Quite the contrary. Pluto rules sex. Literally. It was his domain before it was anyone else's’. Therefore, everything about sex is simply an offshoot of his influence. The rougher, primal, knee-shaking, back-scratching, neck biting, squirting/screaming orgasm, ball-gag wearing stuff? Completely ‘OK’ in his book. He wants you to experience that. The reasoning is that Pluto loves to explore and honor edgier sentiments within. Pluto urges us all to normalize fetishes and fully embrace this side of ourselves. Why? Because Pluto wants us all to live our truth, not hide. Can’t say the same for his brother Neptune though.

See, Neptune is who you should be worried about.

Neptune is the ruler of what is hidden. The realm of the unknown. All that is fantastic, the stuff of fantasy, illusions, dreams, day-dreams, etc. He puts a veil on things. Adds confusion to the mix. makes things hard to see. While Pluto strips away the hidden, Neptune happily puts on the blindfold. Not only does he hand you the rose-colored-glasses, he hands you a ruffied pint to go with it. The essence of this planet is ILLUSION.  With Neptune, it can be difficult to ascertain where and how things are working against you, or you have a hard time figuring out who or what it is. Neptune is about confusion. Neptune clouds your judgment, so you're especially vulnerable to deception and trickery. [Those with hard Neptune aspects can testify] Enemies can be especially difficult to make out/avoid when he’s involved and bad judgment all around can be a theme when he rears his foggy head.  What also makes him so dangerous is because he walks around looking like everything you want. The dream of dreams, if-you-will. As a result, he makes you receptive to mind-altered states. Can even make one prone to hallucinations, the use of poisons such as drugs and alcohol. Even spending copious amounts fo time building castles-in-the-air and neglecting reality. You become addicted to whatever he lays in front of you. The fantasy is more alluring than reality. With Neptune adversely aspected or too many hard aspects to inner planets, this can cause chaos that can negatively impact a native or those closest to them. Neptune on Mercury can be particularly dangerous if ill-aspected because it can cause dishonesty to a pathological degree or simply mental instability. Think Joe Goldberg from ‘You’. 100% crazy 200% delusional. This guy definitely has a shot a gallon of Neptune in his natal cocktail. Manufacturing scenarios that aren’t really occurring. Obsessively daydreaming and idealizing strangers. Successfully conning others into thinking he’s a normal and stable guy when he’s anything but. His judgment is clouded as is the judgment of the poor souls who encounter him, while you, as a viewer, watch in horror. That’s what Neptune does. You won’t see reality until it’s wayyyy too late [RIP Beck].  Neptune rules over all chaotic feelings, and can easily un-focus the lens, making us inclined to obsess over impossible dreams and yearn for far-out things. OMG Neptune is all about yearning. Yearning for the unattainable. But as Dumbledore said: 

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”

But that’s what Neptune will make you do. Forget to live. Dwell on the impossible. Make you prone to hypnotic mindstates that steal moments of your life away. Sex with Neptune can be almost spiritual but it can cause one to get addicted to the rush, and with Neptune clouding judgment, one can perhaps become addicted to sex or even participate in risky sexual behavior. Neptune at its worst also influences death by mysterious means, suicides, death by drowning, disappearance, or even poisoning if found in the eighth house or connected to it.

Neptune is a beautiful planet. Methane causes it to have that brilliant blue hue. It rains diamonds. But again, there but the aura/odor around it is methane. In layman’s terms? The planet literally smells like shit. This classic example of not all that glitters is gold. Tread very carefully when Neptune is around and keep your eyes peeled. Something or someone may not really be what it/they seem. The Last Job

Target: Fujin

The Last Job is a fitting title for this special as it marks the end of three cast member’s tenure in Lupin the 3rd. Goro Naya as Zenigata, Makio Inoue as Goemon, and Eiko Masuyama as Fujiko. They would appear again in Family Lineup which is an animated short but this would be their final big performance. Which is a shame for Goro Naya as his character spends most of the runtime buried in a cemetary.

I have mixed feelings with Last Job. One of my biggest gripes is this is apparently a continuation of a manga plotline, but they give no context, you’re just expected to know what happened. So Morganna is just introduced and you’re expected to know him, same with Andre. We get no background on Morganna, though I’d say he functions fine on his own, but Jigen and Andre’s rivalry is just told it exists, and Asuka’s background with interpol is barely touched upon. You get the sense there’s more at work, but the special has no interest in telling you what any of that is. I guess they want you to read the manga, but too bad there’s no way to do so in english. At least not for this particular manga.

The comedy is also just plain bad this time around. Most of the comedy revolves around the dog biting Lupin’s butt, or Jigen falling in water. There’s a scene where Lupin farts on the dog and I just couldn’t take it seriously. I also absolutely hate the character designs for the villains, they all look terrible. Morganna less than the others but the freaking bird man is especially heinous to my eyes. Angel’s Tactics was still worse but this was pretty awful still.

I will say I appreciate them bringing the Fuma Clan back, though it’s weird that Asuka and the other girl are “the last of the Fuma Clan” when we have a whole ova about them existing. Kinda weird, but once again, continuity in Lupin will drive you crazy. 

The overall plot was alright. The pacing was super fast paced though, it felt like we had a million scenes just in the first thirty minutes. I’m not sure I’d call it good but it was at least entertaining enough to keep my attention instead of getting bored and cutting my nails during it like what happened with Sweet Lost Night. 

So the treasure is something called Fujin. It’s basically a small statue of a dog that summons a black hole. Funny, I feel like this is weirdly similar to Lupin the 3rd the First. Anyway, it and a few other treasures are discovered first including a sword and a gem. Both of which just disappear partway through. The Fujin activates once and is then destroyed by Goemon because holy shit is a black hole generator frightening. Fujiko almost makes it out with some treasure but the production staff gods decided she didn’t deserve it and her plane breaks down. Nobody gets anything.

Lupin’s Reward: $0 and a sore behind

This special also had a really weird scene where they just explain that 16th century Romans had the technological capability to create lasers and we’re shown a group of them with laser guns and what looks like a robot. I’ve suspended my disbelief for a lot of stuff during this watchalong but this had to be by far the weirdest. 

Next up is Blood Seal of the Eternal Mermaid which I’ve heard good things about. Discotek also recently released it with an english dub featuring the classic Part 2 cast including Tony Oliver as Lupin. As such, I’m super excited. We’re also nearing the end of the specials and movies, at least of what we’ll be watching for now. Soon we’ll get to start the tv series.

20 Underrated Wrestling Games

Whether you don’t know the difference between a mark and a bump or you can name the main event of every WrestleMania, you’re probably aware of at least some of the absolute best wrestling games of all-time. Titles like SmackDown: Here Comes the Pain, WWF No Mercy, and WCW/NWO Revenge have transcended the popularity of professional wrestling itself and have become a part of many gamers’ fondest memories.

Yet, there are some forgotten wrestling games that are still worth remembering. While it’s true that there are well-defined tops and bottoms in the wrestling game hierarchy, there are also a few titles somewhere near the middle that have been unfairly lumped together even though some of them deserve a spot near the top of the card with the undisputed legends of the wrestling game scene.

So join us as we look at 20 of the most underrated wrestling games of all-time:

20. Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special

1994 | Human Entertainment | Super Famicom

Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special’s status as one of the earliest wrestling games with a substantial story mode is noteworthy enough. However, what really makes this one special is the fact that one of the game’s scenarios writers was Suda51: the legendary game director known for some of the weirdest games ever made. 

True to form, this game is weirder than you could ever imagine. I can’t think of another wrestling game that ends with the protagonist killing themselves after realizing that their championship win is hollow due to the pain and losses they suffered along the way, and while I’m grateful no other game has tried something like that, this title’s dark and bizarre story should at least make it more talked about than it typically is. 

19. Natsume Championship Wrestling

1994 |  Natsume  | SNES

This is hardly the best wrestling game on this list (clearly), but it does represent a fascinating turning point for wrestling video games that is sometimes overlooked. 

This game combined two eras of wrestling games by featuring the more simplistic arcade style of many early console wrestling titles with a few concepts (such as an advanced fatigue system) that would go on to help shape the more complex wrestling games that would define the years to come. If you like that classic style of wrestling game, this is one of the best ways to revisit it. 

18. Wrestling Revolution 3D

2014 |  MDickie  | Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Mac, Ouya 

Let’s be clear: this is a very bad game. It’d go so far as to call it objectively bad in many ways. However, it’s the fact that the game is so bad that makes it so much fun. 

Considered by many to be maybe the only example of a “So bad, it’s good” wrestling game, Wrestling Revolution is slow, awkward, broken, and clearly made with love. At a time when so many of the recent yearly WWE games end up being glitchy messes anyway, there’s something to be said for a game that embraces its glitchiness and usually leads to a lot of laughs. 

17. WWE ‘13

2012 |  Yuke’s  | PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360

As suggested above, there’s a point where it’s hard for all but the most hardcore WWE game fans to distinguish recent WWE titles from one another. Maybe that’s why WWE ‘13 is sometimes forgotten when we’re talking about the best relatively modern wrestling games. 

This game’s best feature has to be its “Attitude Era” story modes which let you relive some of the best moments from WWE’s most beloved period. More importantly, this game benefited from pretty good animations and a hit detection system that made it feel good to play years before the clutter of this series’ engine would drag these titles down. 

16. WCW vs. The World

Given that PlayStation gamers spent years lamenting that N64 owners got to play WCW/NWO Revenge and WWF No Mercy (two of the best wrestling games ever), I’m shocked that we don’t hear more people praise WCW vs. The World. 

Essentially the predecessor to those brilliant N64 games made by AKI, WCW vs. The World is by far the closest PlayStation gamers came to getting a wrestling game on the level of the best N64 titles. It’s pretty rough compared to those titles, but I can’t help but think of the years I spent missing out on this true gem.

15. WWF War Zone

1998 | Sculptured Software, Acclaim | PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy

Granted, it’s not nearly as good as the best wrestling games of its era, but at a time when WWE (then WWF) was enjoying an incredible popularity resurgence, WWF War Zone allowed fans to live out a truly special era of wrestling.

War Zone’s roster is a time capsule of that era that includes a fascinating blend of big-name stars and notable novelty acts. Its gameplay could have been much smoother, but the game’s presentation and graphics made it feel special. It’s still one of the better PS1 wrestling games of its era and is sure to invoke a strong sense of nostalgia.

14. Legends of Wrestling II

2002 | Sculptured Software, Acclaim | PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance

Legends of Wrestling II’s appeal was (and always will be) its roster. This game’s roster of legendary wrestlers includes some names that still haven’t been included in modern WWE titles. The list of superstars in this game includes Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Mil Mascaras, Bam Bam Bigelow, and many more legends.

The game’s appeal goes beyond its roster, though. The game’s territory-based story mode, which lovingly recreates the structure of ‘80s wrestling, is one of the most inventive ever featured in a wrestling game. It even lets you recreate the famous feud between Jerry Lawler and Andy Kaufman.

13. TNA Impact!

2008 | Midway Games | PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Nintendo DS

TNA Impact was not a great game. Its roster was thin, its gameplay needed a few more months in development, and it just didn’t have nearly enough modes and features to compete with WWE titles. However, the one thing TNA Impact did have was the benefits of the TNA name.

It turns out that counts for quite a lot. Developed during the arguable peak of TNA’s talent level, Impact allowed you to play as everyone, from Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe to AJ Styles and Abyss. On top of that, the game benefited from its impressive presentation and a surprisingly deep story mode. It was far from perfect, but it was and is a must-have for any TNA fans.

12. MicroLeague Wrestling

1987 | MicroLeague | Commodore 64, Amiga, DOS, Atari ST, AmigaOS

MicroLeague Wrestling is arguably the most obscure, odd, and fascinating game on this list. Released for Commodore 64, Amiga, DOS, and Atari ST, MicroLeague was actually a professional wrestling strategy game that allowed you to decide matches and careers through a series of turn-based commands.

It may feel hopelessly outdated today, but MicroLeague Wrestling was a surprisingly advanced concept at a time when wrestling games were dirt simple. It would be fascinating to revisit this concept through some kind of modern wrestling management game.

11. The Main Event

1988| Konami | Arcade

You’d think that a wrestling game released by Konami in 1988 would be better known, but The Main Event has somehow managed to mostly escape the scrutinizing lens of history. That might have something to do with its unlicensed roster that was only vaguely (and hilariously) based on actual wrestlers.

Still, The Main Event should have been a stepping stone for bigger Konami arcade wrestling games to come. It featured deep wrestling gameplay (for the time) that served as a preview of some more notable wrestling games to come.

10. WCW Wrestling

1989| Nihon Bussan | NES

The NES wasn’t exactly known as a haven for great wrestling games, but WCW Wrestling still deserves to be remembered above most of its console contemporaries. Somehow, though, memories of it remain relegated to the few that played it and are not always as fond as they should be.

WCW Wrestling not only offered WCW fans the chance to play as some of their favorite wrestlers of the era, but it included features such as an expanded ringside area and customizable move sets that were ahead of their time. This game certainly remains one of the most playable of its generation.

9. WCW Mayhem

It’s generally agreed that the N64 got better overall wrestling games than the PS1, but it’s simply a fact that the N64’s WCW games were better than those featured on the PlayStation. However, WCW Mayhem did offer PS1 gamers a taste of something pretty good (especially if they missed out on WCW vs. The World).

Granted, Mayhem was a poor man’s version of the WCW N64 wrestling games (its canceled sequel was going to be developed by the same team that made those N64 games), but it was unfairly overlooked by many PS1 gamers who were burned by too many bad wrestling games over the years. Of course, the game’s N64 version was less impressive in comparison to its direct competition.

8. Power Move Pro Wrestling

1996| Yuke’s | PlayStation

Power Move Pro Wrestling was originally based on the NJPW promotion, but it seems that fears over the international popularity of that promotion (at the time) caused the NJPW stars to be replaced with generic wrestlers with NJPW move sets. That decision stands as this game’s most glaring weakness.

Otherwise, this is a solid wrestling title for its era. Power Move Pro Wrestling was released on the cusp of an incredible generation of wrestling titles, but even though it lacks some of the refinement and features of those games, it does boast some admirable 3D gameplay that was head and shoulders above many other wrestling games at the time.

7. WWE Raw 2

The WWE Raw games for Xbox were generally not as strong as their GameCube and PS2 counterparts, but they have been unfairly swept under the rug by fans that feel that they had very little to offer.

WWE Raw 2 actually boasted a few features that would soon become standard. The most notable of those features is the game’s “Create an Entrance,” which not only let you create custom Titantron videos but even let you import your own music. Raw 2 also featured an interesting RPG-lite story mode that complemented its more arcadey elements.

6. Fire Pro Gaiden: Blazing Tornado

1994| Human Entertainment | Arcade, Sega Saturn

Fire Pro Gaiden: Blazing Tornado was a 1994 Arcade/Sega Saturn game that combined elements of Saturday Night Slam Masters, Street Fighter, and more “traditional” pro wrestling games. It was a strange hybrid that was sadly overlooked by too many gamers.

Blazing Tornado is more of a fighting game than a wrestling game, but the ways that it incorporates grappling and other pro wrestling elements make it one of the more notable games of its kind. Its visuals are also enjoyable in a cartoonish kind of way.

5. WWE WrestleMania XIX

2003| Yuke’s | GameCube, Wii

While WrestleMania X8 and XIX would eventually be spun into the overall superior Day of Reckoning titles, WrestleMania XIX deserves to be remembered both as the forerunner of that series and for its wonderfully absurd story mode.

WrestleMania XIX’s story mode saw you seek revenge on Vince McMahon by fighting regular employees and other wrestlers across construction sites, barges, malls, and other random locations. The goal is to cause enough havoc to ruin WrestleMania. It’s a glorious piece of “who came up with this?” game design.

4. Wrestle Kingdom 2

2007 | Yuke’s | PlayStation 2

Wrestle Kingdom 2’s release date is notable not only because it’s the newest game on this particular list but also because it was released at a time when major wrestling games were veering more into “simulation” territory, a time when wrestling games stopped catering to more casual players.

Well, Wrestle Kingdom 2 happens to be “arcadey” and accessible in all of the right places without sacrificing depth. Its gameplay is deep enough for genre masters, but can also be picked up fairly quickly. The fact that it so happens to feature some brilliant tournament modes along with an impressive collection of Japanese stars is just the bow that tops this gift to wrestling.

3. WWE Smackdown! vs Raw 2006

2005| Yuke’s | PlayStation 2, PSP

“Underrated” might be a bit of a stretch in this instance considering that those who love this game place it alongside the greatest wrestling games ever made, but the fact remains that not enough gamers know that this is an absolutely brilliant wrestling title.

In fact, some believe this to be the perfect middle ground between SmackDown: Here Comes the Pain’s lovably ridiculous gameplay and the more grounded games that would follow in this series. SvR 2006 includes an unbelievable number of match types, a very welcome general manager mode, and pick up and play gameplay that some at the time compared to the timeless WWF No Mercy. It deserves to be remembered as a classic.

2. King of Colosseum II

2004| Spike | PlayStation

While there are quite a few Japan-only wrestling games that would qualify as underrated in the West, many consider King of Colosseum II to be the crown jewel of that particular crowd. With its massive roster, deep grappling system, and incredible create-a-wrestler mode, this game is often thought of as the closest we’ve come to a 3D successor to the Fire Pro Wrestling series (it was made by the same team responsible for many of the early games in that series). It’s a shame that it was never exported to the West.

1. Ultimate Muscle: Legends vs. New Generation

2002| AKI Corporation | GameCube

Many people know that AKI Corporation, developers of those classic N64 wrestling games like WWF No Mercy, went on to develop the first two excellent Def Jam titles. What fewer people remember is that AKI also developed this absolute gem of a wrestling game.

Essentially an anime wrestling game, Ultimate Muscle: Legends vs. New Generation sees good and evil wrestlers battle across the universe. Bolstered by AKI’s all-time classic grappling gameplay, Ultimate Muscle proves to be a wonderfully over-the-top wrestling game that’s just as fun to watch as it is to play. Imagine if DragonBall FighterZ and WWF No Mercy had a video game child. This is what you’d get, and it’s better than you can imagine.

Challenge Cup, Haag

Another competition is here! And I bought the ticket just for one reason - Misha Kolyada. And then for seeing some more skating ;)

ICE DANCE

I really like these events when there are just a few participants and when you like all of them it’s even better.

Lopareva/Brissaud (FRA), Yankovskaya/Lukacs (HUN) and Verhaegh/van Geffen (NED) all have great rhythm dances.

The French with their Too darn hot and the Hungarians with Grease went for trusted programs many teams decided for and they did good job with it. I especially liked Grease (in my private ranking I’d put this Grease on third place behind Smart/Diaz and Guignard/Fabbri). 

On the other hand Chelsea Verhaegh and Sherim van Geffen decided for Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and I love it. I don’t think anyone else is skating to it. 

I generally prefer rhythm dance to free dance but I like everyoneeee here, so I liked Lopareva/Brissaud’s Daft Punk, Yankovskaya/Lukacs’ Une hymne d’amour and Verhaegh/van Geffen’s War of hearts. During ice resurfacing they were showing V/vG’s free dance from the previous season - Andre Rieu, Waltz and that was amazing. I have to say they are the discovery of the season for me! 

PAIRS 

So here are some highlights and thoughts... I wrote it after SP and then added some more thoughts after FP so... the opinions change quickly :D 

I know that Tarasova/Morozov are in the league on their own, but - to my own surprise - I caught myself thinking that I really liked their Bolero SP and that it was hot. And their FP to Adagio! Especially the second half is amazing and the last spin is so wonderfully performed to the music. They won very comfortably even with missing the jump combination. 

It was so nice to see Hocke/Kunkel in competition again after she had problems with a balance organ (I assume in the ear?). And that one lift in their FP? She just stretches her leg absolutely upwards wow. 

I really love Chtchetinina/Magyar’s Renaissance short program and they skated it without any mistakes here! They really are a great team on top European level. 

And I also loved Keriven/Pierre’s Corsica SP. They had a bit unfortunate FP. Fall on a throw and immediatelly afterwards interrputed the lift. (This lift gave them troubles also at nationals :(  ]

Netherlands has two pairs! (thanks to a little help from Russian ladies). And Osipova/Epstein got their TES minimum for Worlds. As for the other Netherlands’ team Danilova/Tsiba I really liked how commited to the performance they were in their FP to All of myself.  

The Program for me is Broda/Betegon’s The lion king SP. I wasn’t even breathing when they were skating because I want them to do well so much. And they did! They did a great program but unfortunately didn’t reach the TES minimum. I don’t think Spain will have a participant in the pairs category at Worlds... Laura Barquero teamed up with Marco Zandron but I don’t know how it’s with his release and their training... (now confirmed, no participants from Spain in pairs)

I don’t know I found Zhuk/Bidar’s West Side Story SP underwhelming? Maybe it’s because of the music, yeah there were also two falls but they are kind of bland generally? Oh, nope, sorry, change of opinion. It’s just the music. Because then I saw their Ave Maria FP and they were wonderful. I was a bit surprised to hear this music but they both were so graceful on the ice. How is such a change possible? And I love the moment when she’s doing a solo spin and he’s doing a spread eagle around her. 

Sweden has a pair! Twins pair Greta and John Crafoord. 

I’m so happy for Alexandra Herbrikova/Nicolas Roulet that their FP went so well! They skate to Imhotep and the drums really make sure that you hear every note and get the rhythm :D but they kept up with the music!

Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii. I love their Oblivion SP. Here they had an unfortunate hard fall after a twist. I really thought Sara was almost on the way to the hospital and they returned on the ice and flawlessly performed and finished their program. And they got the TES minimum for Worlds. (If everything goes according to the plan it will be Della Monica/Guarise and Ghilardi/Ambrosini going but why not to have an alternate?) I’m half shocked that they could continue and half admire their, especially Sara’s strenght. Understandably, they withdrew from FP.

MEN

Another portion of highlights and thoughts... Not me not only not watching the FP live but beginning to watch it two hours before the access to it expires. Ooops. But I managed to watch it just in time ;)

Jari Kessler’s SP is amazing. Really, Jari Kessler was another discovery for me at this competition. 

In the short program, Burak Demirboga was great! And Gabriele Frangipani too. I preferred his FP this season to the Impossible SP but now I’ve paid proper attention to the SP too and it’s great. The FP didn’t go so well here for Gabriele with two falls and he slipped off the podium. 

Romain Ponsart is like a different skater this season. Expressive performer. I love it: his SP as well as his Elvis FP. 

Georgi Rhestenko from the Czech Repblic got the TES minimum in SP! Yay!  Unfortunately, the FP went ... not well. Poor him. He skates to Joker (I have to admit that Joker is even bigger no-no for me than Mouline Rouge) but at least his program isn’t terrifying and he does a cool cantilever there.

Tomas Llorenc Guarino from Spain also got the TES minimum in SP! And he has such an amazing program. That’s so big. Can you imagine a Spanish skater again at Worlds? In 2019 there was no Spanish participant in men singles and the future looked bleak. Javi, Javier Raya and Felipe Montoya retired, then even Hector Alonso retired... And now? There are new upcoming skaters! Tomas, Aleix Gabara, Pedro Garcia, Arnaud Joly and Iker Oyarzabal. Some of them getting close to or achieving TES for Europeans and now Tomas even fighting for World’s TES. I’m just so so happy. His FP to Angel and Devil didn’t go that well, he had two falls and in the end didn’t get the necessary points for Worlds but he was close! I really have high hopes for next year’s Europeans and Worlds!

There was a really strong Spanish participation at this competition. Arnaud Joly and Aleix Gabara also took part and I really liked Aleix’ FP to Romeo & Julie. 

We had also two Hungarians there! Mate Borosz and Andras Csernoch. He has a really good Attack FP. 

I adore Morisi Kvitelashvili’s Amsterdam SP. I have to repeat again that his skating is so “civil” no pretending of fake deep emotions, just beautifully skating to Jacques Brel’s magnificent voice. Poor Morisi, the FP went really bad, falling, popping jumps... Though I’d watch him just skate without jumps any day.   

Still no opinion about Adam Siao Him Fa. I’m sorry. Though... I kinda liked his FP to Leave a light on.

Another skater I saw for the first time: Kornel Witkowski from Poland. Skating his FP to Fly me to the moon. I looooove jazzy programs. I love him already. 

Another big revelation for me was Basar Oktar from Turkey. I only knew Burak... And Basar skated absolutely amazing FP to Notre Dame. In fact, they both skated so well that they placed fifth and sixth overall.  (Basar 8th SP, 5th FP, 5th overall, Burak 5th SP, 6th FP, 6th overall). With a difference of just half a point between them. But I assume this was what decided and a day afterwards, Basar was nominated for Worlds. Woohoooo

Donovan Carillo is a sweetheart. He has so much charisma, he’s so authentic while skating (also his costume is awesome and he has suspenders which automatically means I love love love the costume, the program, the skater ;) ) His In the mood program is such a nice jazzy gem... though it wasn’t his day. Fortunately he already got the TES for SP and was fighting only for the FP.  OMG, yesss, skating gods, yess, he got the TES! His program to Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps is just so Donovan. Engaging, sweet, charming. I like this formula. One program to a well known English song, the other program more “local”. In the past, he skated to songs by a Mexican author, with Perhaps it’s really not “local” per se, but the lyrics in his program is sung in Spanish. (Matteo Rizzo goes the same way - one known engaging pop song and the other one Italian) 

 Misha Kolyada. I think it was a good decision to go to an international comp instead of Russian Cup final, to get used to it again, to international competitors and judges. (Ok, shame about the 1A) but he’s a king. Absolute king.  He’s also absolute king in the free. The way he moves on the ice is unreal. The emotions he makes us feel...

[Night had already fallen by the time Charlie and Carewyn returned to school. Charlie led Carewyn upstairs, down the third floor hallway of the East Tower to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom at the far end.

Sure enough, when the two “Fireballs” entered, standing at the head of the classroom was Bill Weasley. He was dressed in a second-hand but well-cared-for slate gray suit and a black collared shirt, and his hair, as ginger red as Charlie’s, had grown an inch or so since his graduation.

Bill’s brown eyes lit up at the sight of Charlie and Carewyn. Carewyn skipped across the room -- Bill met her half-way, opening his arms and bending down slightly so she could wrap her arms around his neck in a hug. With a soft, almost mischievous laugh, Bill straightened up, making Carewyn give a strangled yelp when he lifted her right up off the ground. Then she burst into giggles, and Bill chuckled too as he gave her a big squeeze.]

Bill: “Aw, Carey, it’s so good to see you.”

“(through a big grin) Are you growing your hair out?”

Bill: “(lightly) A bit, yeah. Wonder if I should try to go for a ponytail like yours or Charlie’s -- maybe get a piercing or two.”

“How dashing.”

[She giggled again as Bill lowered her back down to the ground and the two finally released each other. Charlie came up and gave Bill a big hug too -- both boys clapped each other on the back before breaking apart.]

Bill: “It’s great to see you both. Letters are nice and all, but being here in person’s just that that bit better, right?”

“I know. Though it was great, reading about your Cursebreaking work -- your assignment in Slovakia, at the old Bathory Castle? Amazing!”

Bill: “(grinning) Gotta thank you for the cursebreaking books you bought me -- I wouldn’t have even tried examining that knife without reading up on cursed gems beforehand.”

[His eyes softened upon Carewyn’s face.]

Bill: “Cursebreaking’s been brilliant...but I’ve really missed you. Missed Hogwarts...”

[He then frowned slightly.]

Bill: “Gotta say, though, Carey -- you don’t seem very surprised to see me.”

“Charlie told me you were coming to visit tonight.”

[Bill whirled on his brother.]

Bill: “(groaning) I tried to act surprised!”

Charlie: “‘Act’ is a strong word.”

[Carewyn burst into giggles at the two brothers’ bickering, covering her mouth with her hand to try to contain her amusement.]

“Bill, don’t worry about it. I’m glad Charlie told me.”

After how awful a day I’ve had...I needed some good news.

[Charlie smiled, his gaze shifting from Carewyn to Bill and back.]

Charlie: “At least I didn’t tell Carey why you’re here -- mostly because I don’t know either, but still...”

[Carewyn looked up as she heard the class room open.

In came Penny, Rowan, and Barnaby. A moment later, another clump of people -- Tonks, Tulip, Diego, and Andre -- sidled in.

Bill grinned broadly.]

Bill: “Don’t worry -- you’re about to find out.”

[Once all of the sixth year students had arrived, they stood together in a group in front of the rows of desks, facing Bill at the head of the class.]

Ben: “I don’t waste time wondering anymore -- I just take action.”

You could do with some wondering. And other types of thinking too, quite frankly.

[Rather than say this aloud, Carewyn merely pursed her lips sourly.]

Tonks: “(taken aback) Blimey, Ben! When did you get so interesting?”

Penny: “(disapproving) ‘Interesting’ isn’t how I’d put it...”

[Bill cleared his throat in a business-like way to regain everyone’s attention.]

Bill: “As I was saying -- Charlie told me your Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is....particularly useless this year...”

[Ismelda gave a snort.]

Ismelda: “That’s putting it mildly.”

[For once, Carewyn agreed with her.

This year the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher had been filled by a hot-shot, up-and-coming “Defense expert” named Huxley Meyers. Although many Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers in previous years had merely been old and dull, rather akin to Professor Binns, Professor Meyers clearly was much more interested in puffing himself up than actually teaching his class anything. In his first two classes, he’d had the students pair off and duel each other with no set guidelines or instruction and then strolled around the room, picking apart their technique and vaguely going on and on about what he would’ve done better.

“‘Flipendo,’” he’d scoff. “Is that what you all have been learning? Come on. Shoot out something more dangerous sometime, Copper. You’re going to let a ginger runt like that overpower you, Lee? Pummel ‘im!”

There was also a clear difference in how he spoke to the boys in the class versus the girls. With the boys, he’d often try to goad them into attacking their opponents more aggressively -- with the girls, he’d throw out random snide remarks and then played them off as being just “jokes” if anyone took offense to them.

“Spread your feet, Miss Murk, they’re much too close together -- rather like your eyes,” he’d say with a cheeky smile. “Miss Karasu, what’s with that wand grip? More gently now -- don’t reckon your folks would much like to hear about bad marks, eh? Hahaha...oh, don’t worry -- you lot know I wouldn’t write to them about something like that, lighten up...”

Carewyn herself had strangely found herself victim to both behaviors. In both classes, Meyers had paired Carewyn with several of her male classmates in an attempt to get her to really go at it, but when she’d refused to inflict any lasting damage on her friends, he’d ended up tearing into her for it, mockingly calling her “the little princess.” The condescension wasn’t unlike how Snape spoke to his classes, but at least Snape actually taught them useful material -- Meyers, on the other hand, seemed much more interested in tearing down his class than actually giving them tools to hone their skills.]

Even if Rakepick was a lying snake, at least she taught us stuff. This guy is just a joke.

[Bill glanced at Ismelda out the side of his eye, his mouth twitching with disapproval, but it was clear he was much more cross about what he’d heard about Meyers than Ismelda having interrupted him.]

Bill: “Mm-hmm. Well, given the circumstances...and how important it is that you lot be able to defend yourselves, given everything that happened last year...I decided to volunteer my services. I can’t replace your teacher -- “

[For a second he severely looked like he wanted to add “however much I’d like to,” but thought better of it.]

Bill: “ -- but when I have downtime between my Gringotts cursebreaking missions, I’ll be visiting Hogwarts to teach you new defensive spells.”

[His face then grew a bit more solemn.]

Bill: “This tutoring will be informal and optional -- you can opt out if you want. But if and when Rakepick or any of her lot return...I want to make sure you all are as prepared as you can be -- and since your current professor seems to be no help in that, I figure I at least can be. If you decide to stay, of course.”

[He waited for anyone to leave -- but as Carewyn had predicted, nobody moved.

Bill caught Carewyn’s eye and she beamed proudly at him. Bill’s face broke out into a grin.]

((OOC: BILL, MY DEAR, MY CURSEBREAKING BOY! How I love thee! *huggles Bill plushie*

Huxley Meyers is completely original to me, being inspired by both my absolute worst teacher from grade school and a rather unpleasant ex-roommate. I personally see him having friendly connections to Carewyn’s maternal family, the Cromwells, and maybe R as well, depending on what else we learn about them -- either way, yeah, he’s a creep. Still trying to pin down a fancast for the bugger so I can draw him properly. I knew I had to create at least one DADA teacher OC for this game, though -- I’m sorry, but the books always had such interestingly diverse candidates for the position, and after Rakepick, it’s good to explore the downgrade. >>

Whew, I need to get caught up on roleplaying posts for this Weasley brothers chapter so I can start working on posts for THIS --

Loveater

Here’s my analysis on Loveater, spoilers are below- and there may be some Miracle Queen ones as well.

“Experiencing loss is a part of life. Some people lose their first love. Some lose the harmony of their relationship. Some people lose hope. Others lose patience. While others lose their soul. Some lose their certainties...and some have nothing to lose”

Let’s look at this intro sequence, shall we? 

I believe each and every one of those lines have meaning and foreshadowing in them for each character they were about. 

My evidence:

“Some people lose their first love” it shows Master Fu staring longingly at Marianne. And in the very next episode ( MQ spoilers) even though he’s lost his memories, he’s finally able to be with the woman he loves. 

In this very episode, the loss of harmony between Andre and Audrey’s relationship is what starts off the whole plan Hawkmoth has in store for the next 2 episodes. 

Some lose hope- Chloe, losing hope in Ladybug that she will ever have her miraculous again. And that loss of hope is what fuels her to (MQ spoilers) follow along with Hawkmoth.

So what are we left with that didn’t quite have any resolution in this episode? 

Chat Noir, losing patience. 

Nathalie, losing her soul. 

Gabriel, losing his certainties. 

And Luka, having nothing to lose. 

Before I go on, I would like to point out that the only time we have heard of someone having “nothing to lose” was in Heroes Day, when Hawkmoth claimed HE had nothing to lose....and yet, if he had nothing to lose, he wouldn’t be losing his certainties. So how does Luka have nothing to lose, pray tell? Moving on- these are the 4 unresolved lines of this episode, and I can’t help but feel as if there’s going to be more at play to them later on. 

Chat has been basically waiting for Ladybug to fall in love with him this whole time. If he’s losing patience, that may very well cue his attempt to move on through season 4. 

Nathalie, losing her soul- Nathalie Sancoeur. Nathalie “Heartless”.Soulless? And directly after it’s said, she begins coughing, because she’s still sick. This could be implying a couple things. 

1.) Nathalie’s body isn’t the only thing being effected by the miraculous. Her lifeforce and very soul are being effected and potentially drained. 

2.) By soul, they’re referring to how she’s willing to give up anything for this family. How she’s essentially allowed herself to become their servant, willing to do whatever they ask of her and essentially, giving up her soul for them. 

And if it’s the first then we know that Emilie isn’t just comatose or dead. She’s practically soulless. 

No matter how you take it, it means that she has been willing to give up her very soul for Gabriel and his family. 

Gabriel, losing his certainties- when she says this, we get this scene. 

So this I feel kind of obviously implies that Gabriel’s certainty on both what he thinks is right and what he wants is wavering. And if he’s losing his certainty, his determination is going to waver...which means he might start occasionally skipping over potential akumas for Nathalie’s sake.

Now of course (MQ spoilers) by the end the peacock miraculous is already fixed, giving him less reason to doubt his intentions and actions, but what about what he wants? This is the episode after Felix chronologically if I remember correctly, so this is directly after Adrien told Gabriel that Nathalie was practically part of the family. And we see how intimate things get between them throughout these two episodes. He may have no reason to back down anymore, so it would be interesting to see him still doubting himself. 

And lastly, Luka...honestly, this is likely a really big stretch...but the only other person who’s been implied to have nothing to lose (despite having a son who needs him, a woman who loves him, and a business that can’t run without him) was Hawkmoth. And now we have Luka, someone with a sister who needs him, a mother who loves him, a girl who needs his support that he cares very much for and a bright future ahead of him, being implied to have nothing to lose. As soon as I heard that, my thoughts went to the new Hawkmoth actually being Luka. Which...I have no clue how they would do that. But...he’s the person no one would suspect. He’d be practically safe from suspicion until some solid evidence came into play and even then folks would doubt. It would be the biggest plot twist MLB could pull, I’ll tell you that.

I don’t ship Lukanette, but this is very cute.

And this...oh my gosh, Gabriel in this scene. He just seems so happy to present this love cloak to Audrey and Andre. It’s one of the happiest sounding voices I can recall him using and it’s because he did this on purpose, he know’s exactly what’s going to happen. He’s just waiting for it to unfold. And you have to admit it’s pretty funny. Especially when you realize that...he did it on purpose. (and he made it a cloak because he wanted to akumatize both of them.)

They both know what’s up.

And you know what, I actually like it quite well, but Audrey is right...it doesn’t look good on Andre. 

“A symbol of eternal love...”

Sooo if someone were to order that in a dress form for themselves....would it symbolize their self-love too?

Even if no one dates each other in the Kagami/Adrien/Marinette/Luka square, they have a very wholesome friendship deserving of recognition.

This was a shout-out to the cliche of all older cartoons when folks are sneaking around, wasn’t it?

She’s still the one out here on the field doing the dirty work. 

Pure. Nothing to see here, just two broken rich kids finally having a chance to enjoy themselves with their good friend Marinette. I love their friendship.

I ship lovesquare but the more we get of Lukanette and Adrigami the more I appreciate it. And the more Luka grows on me. I don’t ship it, but I’m not mad at it at all. 

I love the Mari-vision. Its like watching a lightbulb go off in her head.

Also! I love how Heart Hunter/Loveater doesn’t just target romantic love. I mean, sure romantic love is cool and all but they were even able to recognize the love and bond between an owner and their pet. Self-love counts. I’m honestly really disappointed they didn’t get a chance to corner Nathalie, though...not that I want Nathalie in harms way, but I would have loved to hear them say something like “This one is just absolutely filled with love.” “Yes, unrequited...” “Love for a family that can never be her own. What a shame...” and right before she gets devoured, Chat Noir dives down and gives her a chance to get away. 

I have nothing to say about this, I just wanted to include it. 

They still look like night and day even without ones transformation.

“I dont believe in those kids of myths...but I do believe in ice cream” I agree.

“I wish I didn’t have to involve you in this”

Poor thing- I love this scene though. As soon as we see them together it starts with him reaching for her- seeing them out in public, in the daylight, interacting like that, it’s quite pleasing. 

Does he even realize how close her is to her?

And when you zoom further out, he’s got a hand resting on her shoulder...

It’s quite beautiful. 

An awkward screenshot, but I love this running sequence. “Bye bye little bird”, love it.

And...she fell right into their trap. They knew they’d never be able to find the guardian if she managed to detransform and be her civilian self- they were rushing and confusing her so she’d forget to detransform.

“My dear guardian” Okay so what does Hawkmoth have a thing for Master Fu now? 

“My dear Pigeon” 

“My dear Mayura”

“My dear Guardian”

It’s like with me and calling everyone “Hon(ey)”. And I have to admit, the first time seeing this- 

It was quite terrifying. Because I couldn’t help but imagine/compare it to looking up and suddenly seeing something like SCP-096 looming over you, or slenderman or you know just...something really chilling. Looking up and seeing someone or something with the capabilities of ruining and uprooting your life, when you’ve been trying so hard to avoid them all this time. It’d be spooky.

The conversation they had here was kinda heartbreaking. 

“There’s only one person I don’t want to hurt- Marinette. She’s the only other friend I have.” and yet “I can’t give him up, even for the sake of friendship”

Maybe I find it heartbreaking because I value friendship over romantic feelings. If I found out a friend had feelings for a guy I also liked, unless that guy approached me first, it’d be given up for the sake of my friend. And even if the guy approached me first, it’d still be a complicated process for me to be willing to accept. I’m so used to hearing about Friends > everyone else that I forget that there are people who don’t have those same values. 

Aw yeah, Master Fu finally out to kick some shell.

And the fact that Hawkmoth assumes that old people have the same time limit that children do, goes to show that hey, he still doesn’t know everything about the miraculous. He still has a lot to learn. 

Oh gosh I love going through and pausing this show frame by frame because then I get gems like this

I can’t stop giggling at this omgosh

“You talk a lot but you haven’t achieved much so far” Master Fu’s really out here to roast Hawkmoth. 

Maymoth are a power couple.

Okay so....I love this? It’s actually really clever if he’s looking for more allies. I like the way he went about it here. Offering her something she desperately wants and can boost her power...and in return she fight by his side. And targeting her once all her hope is down the drain, when her doubts are at their highest...yes, yes, it’s twisted as heck but I like how you can see the thought he put into this. He’s even willing to go so far as to call her “My queen” just to further erase all doubts she might have and cement the idea that if she follows through and does as he asks she can have everything she wants.

ngl this gave me strong Sebastian Michaelis vibes (a demon off the show Black Butler). 

And I like how they were sure to incude the detail of the akuma not only just flying out of the cloak but also lsing the energy it had been infused with.

And Marinette’s emotional breakdown...

Finally, we get to see some of the effect that owning the miraculous and having to constantly hold back her negative emotions has had. It can’t be easy, having to constantly lie to people you love and trust, not being able to show them a side of yourself that really is a part of who you are. Never being allowed to feel overwhelmingly sad, or mad, for fear of destroying your home and family with no one to stop it. And on top of it, feeling as if you have to give up on the person you love because, they love someone else, and someone else loves them more than they love you. Feeling as if Adrien can’t be trusted for fear of spreading her deepest secret, as if Kagami doesn’t care about her as much as she may have hoped, and she ends up rambling about something tht Luka can’t begin to understand unless he knows her secret. 

And Luka, “You can tell me everything, or nothing if you prefer” that is so important, Luka has officially gained my utmost respect. His personality, values and mindset are starting to really come out and I respect it. He knows that sometimes people just can’t talk about something right then and there, that sometimes they’re just not ready, and that it’s okay. I like how they used that to showcase part of Luka and it’s really important for kids to learn that too.
