A big argument with the pro death penalty crowd is, "well what about the people who actually are guilty?" And the answer is always, "well what about the people who are actually innocent?"
I would rather spare the lives of a 100 guilty people rather than execute 1 innocent person.
And functionally, the death penalty doesn't really do anything.
There's no evidence to suggest that states that have the death penalty see a decrease in crime, so it isn't a deterrent. The only thing it functionally does is attempt to make people feel better.
A life sentence will functionally accomplish the same thing a death penalty does, it will keep that person away from the public.
With life sentences, an innocent person has the opportunity to be found innocent and released. You can't bring an innocent person back to life if you find out after their execution that they're actually innocent.
*Stop tagging this post as pro life. I'm pro abortion, this post is pro abortion. If you like and/or reblog this post, you're pro abortion too*

The person who posted this tiktok had this in their bio "safe space for all" bold claims for someone advocating for human experimentation
Tumblr media
I hate it when people (especially young queer people) so boldly say stuff like this as if the US doesn't have a long history of doing unethical tests on non consenting (black and latino) prisoners
As always, if the state can violate one person's human rights, then they can violate yours too.
Incarcerated people are not always guilty, and in a world where state governments want to start prosecuting drag performers as sex offenders, I think we should be more leery of language and behavior that thoughtlessly dehumanizes people
And also
Someone can be a violent sex offenders who you hate, and they will still be a human being with inalienable rights. The two are not mutually exclusive.

this point has probably been made before but I find it so funny, sad and exhausting that there are leftists who will gladly proclaim to be anti capitalist and talk about how exploitative labour is under capitalism while being "pro sex work" and viewing it as ✨empowering✨
what's more pro capitalist and exploitative than someone selling themselves as if their body was a product? treating something intimate that people share like it's a service you can buy

I get so infuriated when people reduce Jason's ultimatum to "trying to force Bruce to kill someone to prove his love". The dishonesty of it. Remove all context from the situation and make it sound like an insane inhumane choice. I can do that too actually. Batman is a rich kid who whales on poor and mentally ill people instead of going to therapy. He colludes with cops to bypass due process and collect evidence illegally. He creates child soldiers and makes them into canon fodder for his obsession. It sounds pretty indefensible when you remove every single context and convention that makes a story work doesn't it? Almost like you're only willing to extend the in-universe rules to the rich white manbaby and not the child whose death he was responsible for, huh?
Also? Moral absolutism is harmful and egoistic. You shouldn't kill people, not even criminals, of course not. But that doesn't mean refusing to kill in any situation whatsoever is the moral choice. There's a difference between killing to protect and killing to avenge. Between killing an active threat who will definitely escape and slaughter a family and killing one who is safely contained. Any rule that's taken purely prescriptively and without regard to the individual context of the choice is simply dogma. Especially if the role you have voluntarily taken on requires the willingness to do whatever it takes to do your fucking job. That's why morality isn't fucking black and white.
That's the crux of it for me; why I take this defense of Batman's choices so personally. I don't trust people who see the world in such a black and white way (this includes Jason, who is exactly as myopic as Bruce, but happens to be right about the Joker imo. Fortunately he's a fictional character and also a kid who has not yet had the opportunity to grow, unlike Bruce). I don't trust people who think morality is about a set of correct judgements rather than the process by which you arrive at said judgements. I don't trust people who won't fucking choose. Inaction is complicity, bitch. The consequences of your choices exist and fall on other people regardless of your refusal to take responsibility for them. Bottomline – if your version of "mercy" results in the death and suffering of other people, maybe consider that you're the villain of the story.

Israel cannot be conflated with judaism btw, don't do that.
Because if it was then antisemitism would be justified as retaliation against a terrorist state, the same way Israelis and Westerners justify their islamophobia by conflating Islam with Hamas, or Islam with ISIS.
Israel is colonialism. Israel is capitalism. Israel is a disgrace to Moses and the people he led out of the desert.
Israel is a blight upon the world and should be excised as one excises a tumor, so the Palestinians (MANY OF WHOM ARE JEWISH, MANY OF WHOM ARE LGBT) may return to their homes.

The thing is I've heard countless defenses for the death penalty and not a single one has gotten me any closer to believing in it.

Johnson was convicted in 1998 of the 1995 shooting death of Deputy Sheriff William Hardy. Hardy, who was working an off-duty job as a security guard for a Birmingham hotel, was shot and killed while investigating a noise in a parking lot. Johnson, who maintains his innocence, was arrested a few hours later along with five other individuals. Three were later released. “There were no eyewitnesses,” Moss said. “There were no fingerprints, and no gun was ever found. In the coming weeks the detectives, struggling to solve this case arrested and charged five different Black men for this crime, despite the fact that the physical evidence showed there was only one shooter.”
Each had separate trials. At each trial, the state alleged that each of the defendants was the person who shot Hardy even though there was only one perpetrator who committed the crime. The jury had acquitted the other individual and that left Johnson. He was tried for Hardy’s murder. “At his trial, the state presented a completely new witness against Mr. Johnson, a woman named Violet Ellison, who claimed she overheard a three-way phone call from the jail, in which the man on the phone said his name was Toforest and confessed to the murder,” Moss said. The witness had never met Johnson, or heard his voice, and the state’s entire case rested on the words of the witness. There was no physical evidence linking him to the murder, and a jury was unable to reach a decision in a trial in 1996. But at a second trial, Johnson was convicted. Following the conviction, Johnson’s attorneys learned that Ellison claimed $5,000 from the state in reward money. That payment has been key to Johnson’s post-conviction appeals, known as a Brady claim. Johnson’s attorneys argued prosecutors withheld that information, which could have been used to challenge Ellison’s credibility. His attorneys first appealed to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, claiming prosecutorial misconduct, but the court ruled against him. His attorneys are now appealing that ruling to the Supreme Court of the United States, requesting a new trial.

“Believes Kyoshk Is Innocent,” Toronto Globe. April 24, 1912. Page 2. ---- REV. MR. RIGSBY CONVINCED BY INDIAN’S STATEMENT - NOW INVESTIGATING ---- (Special Despatch to The Globe.) Sarnia, April 23. - The police here are investigating a new theory in the Walpole Island murder, for which Stephen Kyoshk, a twenty-year-old Indian youth, has been sentenced to hang. The latest developments may remove the stain of guilt from the young man and place it on another Indian.
Kyoshk has stated to his minister, Rev. Mr. Rigsby of the Sarnia Reserve, some very important facts. The blame is put on a neighbor, and the authorities are investigating.
The prosecution in the case claimed that a repeating shotgun was used, but from the facts brought out to-day it has been proven that the shells provided could not have come from such a weapon.

About Me
My name is Spencer (they/them pronouns), I like Supernatural, Ethel Cain, and poetry. Most of my posts on this blog are about Supernatural (and even more specifically Sam Winchester), and pretty much all of my Ethel Cain and poetry stuff goes to my side blog, houseofpsychoticwomn. Other than Supernatural, I post vents/rants and Teen Wolf and Criminal Minds stuff on this blog. I just did a pretty major rebrand on my page, I was samwinchxter for the last year and a half and now I’m femmeboysamwinchester. I generally stay away from shipping in the SPN fandom because of how toxic that culture can be in such big fandoms. I do ship w/in the TW and CM fandoms.
My top ships in each fandom are as follows:
TW:
1. Alison/Lydia
2. Stiles/Derek
3. Kira/Malia
4. Scott/Isaac
5. Peter/Argent
CM:
1. JJ/Emily
2. Morgan/Reid
I don’t really have other ships in the CM fandom, but I am a firm believer in Pansexual Penelope Garcia.
Other Stuff:
I am firmly pro-Palestine and anti-Zionist. 🇵🇸🍉
I’m very far left leaning, but I do believe in the concept of capital punishment (not realistically bc I recognize the corruption of the system).
I believe that the prison industrial complex needs to be eradicated and prison as a whole needs to be reformed to act as rehabilitation rather than punishment
I believe in centers for addicts to have safe, anonymous access to clean needles and safe drugs and public access to naloxone. As someone born to opiate abusers, I know people will do it anyway and we need to practice harm reduction because there will be no way to completely eradicate the harm done to people.
For similar reasons, I support professional piercers piercing babies under a certain age. It keeps them from being pierced badly and dangerously by mall piercers.
I’m a socialist
I’m a nonbinary femme lesbian 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
I have diagnoses of Bipolar 1, ADHD, and chronic pain and migraines

Ugandan lawmakers have blood on their hands. It is a total disgrace that laws like this exist in this day and age. There is no place for them. A 20 year old man has been changed with "aggravated homosexuality" and is to be sentenced to death. It saddens me to know that homosexuality is still a crime in any part of the world
