Things that come in my head as I play through Diasomnia's chapter (chp 38-55):
[Potential spoilers below darlings, proceed with caution!]
Tumblr media
Am I ready for this? Hell no. Do I know I will regret everything? Yes. Am I still gonna try to finish everything in one day? Yep. Let's go!
Ortho??? Calling from RSA??? Is this Idia's dream? Malleus?! Cute to see him taking care of Drago but like the tiny details showing that its actually a dream? And Idia's catching on! Slowly but hey, progress is still progress! It's also nice to see how things could be different if og Ortho was still around.
Where are we? Why are there terrifying ghost like things on the windows? Is this Ramshackle dorm before it became, well, Ramshackle as we know it now? I am so confused now lol– Wait we're in Mickey's room?! How'd we get on the other side of the mirror? We're all having an out of body experience... I dunno how to feel about that tbh.
Silver! My baby's here! And we get to see his UM!
Have I ever told you guys how much I like Malleus' humming? Cause I like it very much. But anyways... we're in cyberspace now...? Oh Ortho! Ortho's awake! Poor baby's trying so hard to wake up his brother.
It's kinda scary seeing how powerful Malleus is. Like, to the point where he can force even Styx issued gear into shut down mode, he's seriously overpowered. Can't wait to see Idia continue the trend and become the hero in this tale, but there's a lot of heart ache we need to go through before we reach that point so, best of luck to all our poor hearts.
I wonder if there's any particular significance to the fact that the time is stopped at 9:18.
So we finally meet Idia's dad, huh? His helmet reminds me of Hades' Helm of Darkness. And we meet his mom as well. A lot of technical stuff and lore drop that went a bit over my head, but it's fine! We'll be fine!
Seems like eccentricity is the middle name of the Shroud family. Then again all geniuses are a bit eccentric. Poor idia, his mom definitely snooped through password protected folders. I would riot if my parents ever snooped through my laptop, so I can't wait for him to wake up and proceed to lose his shit over it lmao
Ortho's Cerberos gear and the two support droids are so cool! The little family moment is cute, but I hope this isn't a death flag for poor Ortho because I've seen too much of that trope– Now we're back with the Prefect! Ngl, Silver's kinda hot when he orders us around.
Dreams are a very tricky subject, so I don't blame Silver for not knowing much about how his UM works. That being said, I'm ready to learn a little more about Sebek, now that we're in his dream. I'm not his biggest fan atm, but... let's see. I'm hoping my perspective on him changes because he seems like a fun character to explore.
.... Something about the way he calls us human just pisses me off lmao. But we will be keeping an open mind. I will come to love you Sebek (yes it is a threat)
I feel terrible for Silver. Imagine looking at people you've known your entire life, two of them people you look up to and one you've trained alongside, and seeing strangers. Strangers who live in a fairy tale, who want you to join them and live happily ever after, sacrificing your freedom and responsibilities of the real world for an ideal ending. Who wouldn't want to take that chance? Making the choice to go against them, for their own good, is the most difficult thing to do in this situation. Raising your weapon against the one you trained your whole life to protect, fighting against someone who was once your comrade-in-arms.... it's terribly heartbreaking. But, hey, at least we got Sebek to wake up.
EHY IS MALLEUS SO FUCKING OP DIFVDHDGDJSVDVDJD B DHFDUSJDHS?!?!?!?!?
We... we're in Lilia's dream now.... brb, gotta get some tissues and get ready for emotional damage–
It's nice to see Silver taking the lead and being the dependable one. Also, General Lilia!! Been waiting for him since I got spoilers back when I was stuck in Ignihyde's book. I love how his hair transitions from being long and having red streaks to short and cute with pink streaks. Long hair is often associated, at least in my culture, with maturity and a sense of responsibility, while short hair is more fun and child-like. Similarly, red is an intense colour, while pink could technically be seen as a softer, gentler cousin to it. It shows Lilia's change from a warrior to caregiver and I think it's really neat. I just wish he could have seen him in a more adult-like form in the past.

An honest critique of FRWBY by someone who actually watched it and was willing to give it a chance
Ok so LF and CS have proven themselves to be disingenuous liars who go out of their way to make rewrites of RWBY look poorly written and bigoted because they have diluted themselves into believing that the show doesn't carry all of the same problems that they accuse these rewrites of having. That being said, Fixing RWBY does happen to carry over a lot of problems from the original show. While I personally believe that Fixing RWBY is a better story structurally from RWBY proper, that doesn't mean that it didn't keep many of the flaws associated with the original show. This is not a defense of FRWBY, nor is it really a bashing because I will come right out and say that I do actively enjoy it and am excited to keep up with its version of volume six. I wouldn't recommend it to any of the people I interact with a lot on Tumblr simply because it's definitely not something they would like very much.
It's impressive how much passion is put into this project honestly, seeing all these fans come together to take the time out of their days without payment just to create something they care about. I definitely think the art and animations are some of the best parts of FRWBY. And I think the story does a far better job of utilizing the amount of characters that the show already had without constantly adding new ones that are completely unnecessary. It also makes a lot of changes to the characters interactions and relationships with other characters that I appreciate. I like that Weiss's time in the Brawnwen was changed from being held prisoner and threatened, to being a taste of freedom and potential new life for herself that she eventually had to ditch for the sake of her friends and the mission. And I really liked Changing Vernal to be Yang's secret half sister and having her develop a friendship with Weiss, it did a lot more to make her death feel more impactful by making her a character that the audience has to care about because these other characters care about her, and goes a long way of proving how selfish and short-sighted Raven could be where her own arrogance and desires ultimately ended up getting her own daughter killed and the tribe she chose over her own husband and first daughter to leave her. And I'm actually quite happy with Roman being Ozpin's host, I think it's handled pretty well and in a way that doesn't overshadow Ruby at all. One change that I thought was pretty cool from a story and representation perspective was having Neo use ASL and have Yang also learn it with her during her recovery period (which was actually a recovery period thank God, not just a showcase of her suffering and then just being fine without seeing her journey). And one thing that I like by default is it going out of its way to humanize Ironwood. That's always an A+ in my book as an Ironwood fan.
Now let's get into the bad stuff that is actually worth criticizing and not just sweeping under the rug just because LF and CS are lying liars who lie.
First and foremost, the Faunus plotline.
I don't like it.
There was very little effort put in to change the actual problems with the Faunus plotline in the actual show. The White Fang are still the bad guys, Blake is at the same time, still a rich princess with parents who love her, and Racism in Remnant is explicitly stated to be an individual to individual thing (though in a Livestream Celtic Phoenix said that racism in Atlas is systemic, so I'm holding out a little bit of hope that will at least be treated like a big deal) and still far more fighting against civil rights activists than fighting actual racists.
There's some interesting stuff in the beginning with Cardin starting out pretty racist, but after being forced to do some actual research on the subject and finding that his views have no historical or scientific basis quickly changing his mind about it and growing into a better person, but that's not enough to forgive the rest of it.
Effort is being put in to make Adam a more dynamic character who seems to have an explicit tragic backstory regarding the racism he faced (and not just implied with his nasty hate crime scar) but that actually makes the whole thing kind of worse. Because I kid you not, in the final episodes of the volume 5 rewrite, when the White fang is defeated, Blake tells Adam, "this isn't the world your mother grew up in anymore" and I'm just like, Adam's mom is implied to have been a Slave woman who was abused and possibly killed by her owner! Who is Blake, in her mansion on an ethnostate where she never had to face racism or cruelty or worry for a family member's safety, to tell Adam how he should react to Racism?! And I know that the reason she has to stop him in the rewrite is because the White Fang are trying to stage a cou that would lead to a war that would cost far more faunus lives than do good for them, but that doesn't change the fact that it's extremely tone deaf that it was Blake who is telling him this when her backstory hasn't been changed at all.
Either make the White Fang the good guys, or make Blake an orphan who has had to experience racism and cruelty her whole life, because you can't have both and still have a story that doesn't feel jarring and pro establishment as hell.
Next, the cultural appropriation. Taking inspiration from multiple Asian cultures for Mistral is kind of unavoidable since Mistral itself is fundamentally meant to be based on a multitude of Asian cultures. (I personally try to mitigate this problem by having different parts of Mistral be based on different Asian countries, and do the same for the other kingdoms too) but I think we all remember the thing about the Brawnwen tribe from a few months ago. Since the Ainu people are heavily discriminated against in Japan and stereotyped as being bandits and thieves, having the Brawnwen tribe be inspired by them in some aspects is definitely a bad thing. It was especially a problem when that cultural appropriation was also misinterpreted and used without fully understanding the culture of what the traditional bear was. And then the attempt to crack down and defend that was just a bad look altogether.
And to bring up the Shay D Mann and Ren and Roman bathroom scene, these are things that I think the creator just didn't realize could come across as queerphobic or a bad look for the character. The joke about Roman not realizing that Ren is a man and then having a conversation about all of tells that would have tipped him off about Ren being a guy and then having them be rebuttaled (at one point pointing out that Weiss has small boobs and that doesn't make her less of a woman, which while I think was well intentioned was just uncomfortable in general) was just in poor taste. And Shiloh (as he's called in FRWBY) didn't need to still be showcased sexually harassing Yang. He was actively physically and verbally abusing the man at register anyway in the rewrite, Yang could have just done the heroic thing and punched him to protect the civilian, instead of trying to ignore him while he comments on her figure and then saying something incredibly abelist about her prosthetic before being thrown out by Neo and her umbrella. Although It's not necessary to make all of your important characters good people. So I guess this has a lot more to do with how you feel about bad people still being important and sympathetic characters. Though I wouldn't say Shiloh is that important to Volume 5, all he really does is provide some Vernal backstory, serve as some comic relief, and is the one who ultimately decides for the tribe to leave Raven after she gets his daughter killed.
If I were to defend these choices, instead of trying to claim that Shiloh didn't sexually harass Yang (which was honestly far more present in the rewrite, no actual dialogue but he is described as complimenting her figure) and that lesbians are stupid, I would instead say that a character doesn't have to be a good perfectly squeaky clean non problematic person to be a character who isn't necessarily a villain. Or alternatively I could just acknowledge that it was unnecessary to have him actively sexually harass a girl his daughter's age because there was already something else that could have been used to show that he wasn't a good person and end up bouncing right out of the gas station anyway.
I think that's everything I want to talk about, because combing through all of it would be like rewatching an eight hour show and taking notes the whole time and I don't have much time for that.
But all in all, FRWBY isn't above criticism just because it's a rewrite of RWBY and has some aspects that deserve to be criticized, but it's also not the worst most biggoted thing in the world. I like aspects of it, but I honestly like other rewrites better. It honestly just feels like watching the original show if the original show had a more coherent story but didn't change any of the more problematic aspects.
So yeah, there's my review. I'll tell you how I felt about Volume six when it's over.

Remake (from memory) of this. Gordon and Borrower!Barney hanging out in Gordon's room. Poster suggestions welcome. :>
Extremely long rant about this thing's creation under the cut.
aaaAAAUUUGGGHHH okay. So imo this poster is kind of a mess and I'm not happy with the lighting at all, but if I work on it for a single second longer I will simply cry.
So there's a gordon model on the sfm workshop that has outfits like the one above, and I was quite determined to make this in gmod, so I had to learn how to port ragdolls from sfm to gmod. You'd think this would be a fairly easy task - they're both source, after all, and there are tutorials - but it was a multiple-weeks-long journey of roadblocks followed by breakthroughs followed immediately by additional roadblocks. There was vital knowledge not in the tutorials. And I didn't fully succeed, anyway - the above image is his sfm body with his gmod head so so so carefully aligned to it in-game (there is a whole additional invisible gordon body in this image). If I wanted to put him in a different pose, I would have to re-align his head. Which is, like... way harder than it has any right to be. Sooo much harder. And that's with the "reference" head I have - like, okay, sfm-gordon's body does have a head attached, but the issue is that it doesn't have the correct facial posing. So I use it as a reference for placing gmod-gordon's head. I know why getting a functioning sfm-gordon head in gmod is harder than than the rest of him (or at least I think I do), and I think I know what I need to do to make it happen (though it will sacrifice a bit of his sfm-level complexity), but I don't yet know how, and at this point spending like 2 hours getting his head aligned juuuust right in-game is so much less time and effort than figuring out how to do that, so... Later, I'll figure it out. Maybe.
But yeah, there was a hell of a lot of very frustrating trial-and-error involved in that whole process because it's very difficult to find resources for a lot of stuff unless you already have the knowledge to know what to look for.
And that was my first trial.
I liked this desk model the best, but it didn't have a bumpmap, so I generated one for it, which made me feel very fancy and tech-proficient, but really all I had to do was open up the texture in vtfedit and click "generate normal map" or whatever. Oh, yeah, I'd been looking into porting models from sketchfab and such into gmod for a while, off-and-on, a while back (and dabbled a tiiiny bit in map-editing too), so the knowledge from then definitely helped me a lot. I probably wouldn't have gotten this poster done if it wasn't for that, because at that point it would have all been too arcane and overwhelming.
But yeah, you can't even actually see anything but the top of the desk, so I could have just chosen a good texture and used a rectangle instead, and the bumpmap is barely visible in this poster, lol.
Then there's the mousepad. It's a re-textured street sign, by the way. :) I put an absurd amount of effort into that too. I got the black mesa logo off google, but the large majority of the effort to turn it into a mousepad involved messing with the texture with tedious in-game tools.
Then, that book, I got it off a free 3d models website, because I didn't like any of my already-available options. I had to learn a bit about UV maps through trial and error in blender to get it to work right, because nothing is easy. That's the first time I've ever actually ported a non-source object into gmod, so that's cool. (Gordon being the first time I've ever ported something at all. To my recollection, anyway...?) Oh, and I had to learn about how to convert a more modern texture format into valve's obsolete one. That involved being subjected to sights like this:
Tumblr media
Thank you, developer.valvesoftware.com. (Though really, this part wasn't that hard. I ignored the scary math(?) and it was fine.)
Next was the mug. All the mug models I had were not smoothly circular enough for me (Or I think maybe there was one or two, but I really didn't like their shape either way). They were quite obviously made of a few flat planes arranged into a circle-ish shape, and that just wouldn't do. So I went and found another free 3d model, slapped the black mesa logo on it, and put it in gmod. I... Did not consider how much more complex it would be as something intended for 3d art / ads rather than video games; I think it has more vertices than Gordon, LOL. It's not so many that it actually lags the game, so it doesn't really matter, but I do find it funny.
And then those papers! I remembered that letter sent to Gordon from the PS2 Half-Life case had a coffee mug stain on it, and I wanted it on the table, but, remembering how much of a pain it was to make the mousepad, I opted to actually create my own models for them this time. They're just rectangles, after all, so it's not like the modeling part was going to be a challenge.
Well, it wasn't a challenge, really, but it did take quite a bit longer than I had expected, partially since I had to muddle through stuff I only sort of had an understanding of. Anyway, it took like, an hour and a half, or two hours? I finally get it into the game, and as I'm putting it on the table, I realize... The coffee stain is in black and white. OTL
So. I put the other page on top. Sad. I mean, I could have just added a free in-color coffee-stain png to the texture somewhere, but. *Gestures.* I had expended too much energy so far to be in the mood to do that.
And this barney model... It is cursed somehow. Or it hates me. The more you pose it, the more resistant it becomes to being posed. The posing tools just.. don't do what you ask them to do after a certain point. So I wasn't super happy with the pose but it was good enough. ToT Originally I wanted to post 3 posters with them in different poses as if they were having a conversation, but yeah, I am not posing that Barney any more, lol. It may have been the fault of the tool I used to make him Small, I'm not sure. Will need further testing.
And THEN.
I take 18 different lightbounce renders, writing down the settings I used and whatever I did differently each time, trying to feel out the tool and find a render I really like. (Last time I kinda just did whatever and settled on an early render I liked without really bothering to figure it out much). At render #18, I get one I'm happy with, so I throw it into GIMP and- oh, now it looks different and bad. Wtf. I try a different image editing program and the same thing happens. I google the issue and decide it probably has to do with some crappy default windows color settings getting imported into the program along with the image, and decide I'll go to bed and deal with that tomorrow. (Oh, yeah, I kept staying up way too late thinking I'd just finish the poster before I went to bed, but never finishing it...)
But no! As I find out the next day from more googling and experimentation, it turns out the windows photo app auto-"enhances" your photos. I'd been judging the renders by how they looked in the app this whole time, so the way it looks in GIMP is how it actually looks. All that experimentation on what looks best the night before... Done on the basis of how they looked after windows "enhanced" them without me knowing.. OTL
And so today I do some more lightbounce render experimentation. I try again and again, but I can't get it to look the way I was able to make it look before, even accounting for the auto-"enhancement". No clue what I did different that night, but okay. So I settle for the way the renders have decided to look tonight, and try to get one that I like the best out of the options it's giving me, but... This tool was created by arcane wizards. This tool is a wild, untamed beast. Even in the same session, I'll be like, "How did I do that and how do I make it happen again." Eventually I kind of gave up and just worked with the most inoffensive one I could generate. I suspect this tool wasn't designed with such small scenes in mind.
The main light source render - well, i hardly experimented with it, because I just wanted to be done with this freakin' thing already.
Anyway, that's... most of it. How long has it been? Like a month? And I was working on this nearly every day. All just for this thing. But it consumed me, man. I couldn't focus on anything else.
Maybe now I can do other things... Like I said, I'm really not happy with the lighting, but I'm so excited to just put this behind me. orz Hopefully my dissatisfaction doesn't turn into an un-ignorable need to keep fiddling with it. I refuse. I refuse! I am doing something else now!
Oh, however! In the process of all that, I may have found out a way to be able to facepose resized-barney, something as-of-yet impossible for me. Still have to try it out. Exciting stuff...

so re: death of the author in fandom, are you talking about fans theories that add to or ignore textual material in canon? This isn't something I've paid attention to at all in fandom and now I'm kind of scratching my head trying to figure out how you do Death of the Author Wrong.
Ohhh haha, people use it extremely wrong. The most extreme example I've seen is the person sincerely, not-smooth-sharking convinced it was people calling for "problematic" authors to be (at least metaphorically, in a social-death sense) killed, which is a very silly hyperbolic example, but common ideas include:
The idea that it is not possible due to DotA to provide a reading of a text that is unsupported and can be shot down; that DotA means "all readings are equally valid and true and canon is never real", and every reader can say whatever they like and it's "canon". (Think, idk, the text says the curtains are blue in a totally unambiguous way, a fan insists their reading the curtains are red is "equally valid" because "just because the author wrote that they're blue doesn't mean they are, death of the author!", for a silly example.)
The idea that death of the author is about stuff like "it's cool to still buy HP merchandise, because JKR being the author doesn't matter if we decide she's 'dead'!"- in other words, that "death of the author" means acting as though the author literally doesn't exist in real life. Discussions about boycotts of living authors are not about literary analysis, needless to say, and DotA has nothing to do with it.
A belief that DotA represents a kind of empirical fact about How To Correctly Do Literary Analysis and that if you are not taking that perspective, you are doing analysis wrong. The idea that literary criticism is like physics where you learn the fact of the second law of thermodynamics and it's always true and not taking it into consideration is a factual error. DotA, and poststructural analysis as a whole, is not exactly an uncontentious subject! (Nor does every post-Barthes theorist who uses it to some extent take it in one single direction.)
The first one, IME, is the most common thing, but YMMV.
I find the main issue tends to people hearing about DotA and being like "oh, this is A Fact that you get taught when you learn how to analyse texts and it's always true in every way it can be true". (I'd also say there's a lot of general confusion around the idea a reader can bring extra-textual knowledge of e.g. an author's biographical details that can influence their reception of a text even if it isn't necessarily inherent to the text itself, but that's the sort of thing I find poststructuralists argue a lot more about among themselves, lmao.)

Hi, I found you through Eversion and I'm now loving UTB, and I read TWW in between updates and it was great too! (Was weird reading UTB and TWW simultaneously considering the opposite Ef&Gwyn dynamics but I did that to myself lol.) I have 2 random UTB questions!
1. I was surprised Polly didn't react to Gary's Big Stinky!! Can dogs not smell human pheromones at all (and e.g. learn to associate certain smells w certain states/behaviors in their owners), or is Polly just... Polly? This got me wondering about unique service dog applications in UTB-verse, like alerting to oncoming corrupted heats or rages or PACS flare-ups, or the smell of fear as a cue to do a task. (Real dogs can detect stuff like high/low blood sugar or oncoming seizures, dogs are so cool.)
2. I know you may just not know yet, but do you think Ef will ever use his safeword? I'm a huge sucker for the moment when a character safewords and their partner respects it and you feel that trust. Loved it in Eversion and TWW!
Hi hi anon!
1. I was surprised Polly didn't react to Gary's Big Stinky!! Can dogs not smell human pheromones at all (and e.g. learn to associate certain smells w certain states/behaviors in their owners), or is Polly just... Polly?
Polly is Polly. Of the 700 million to 1 billion dogs in the world, there's only a very tiny percentage that can sniff out cancer! (Or detect seizures etc.) (Also of the research done so far, trained sniffer dogs re: cancer are still giving a false positive around 10-30 percent of the time, which isn't great for drug busts, but is even worse if you're one of the 30%~ of patients given a false positive diagnosis for cancer and then have to wait to find out if it's wrong or not - we have a ways to go! Like, there are unusually adept cancer sniffer dogs, and then there's ones that'll just false positive on you a LOT which combined with the false negative rates is like... they're still working on it.
Lots of potential, but they're not rolling it out everywhere just yet so that people don't get PTSD from false positive cancer results (it happens) and then need an entirely different kind of service dog dslfkjasd) - I believe what the research has pivoted towards is trying to isolate what the dogs are smelling, so that we can omit dogs entirely and use breath test strips that won't have a 10-30% false positive rate (or a high false negative rate) - afaik for at least some kinds of cancer, that research is super promising in cancer detection science (this subject is of broad interest to me, as I have a genetic cancer sdlkajfs).
But also, Polly's been with Gary all her life, she's used to his pheromones, his strong emotions, and his issues. She literally lives on a property with three peak alphas, a near-constant influx of severely distressed omegas, and also severely distressed alphas tbh, she's extremely used to it, and it's also all she's ever known.
The world according to Polly is a world where high levels of distressing pheromones happen, and it doesn't stop how much love she gets or how much she's adored. She has no reason to react like it's unusual, no one's ever directing that anger at her. And also, she's elderly, and her senses aren't what they used to be anyway. But if this had happened when she was younger, I think she mostly would've been like 'I'll go stand near the upset person and see if I can get some pets.'
I'm sure there are awesome applications for service dogs in the UtR world, but tbh, this is a world that thinks of using directives first to fix mental illness issues, than like...service dogs, so the dystopian universe bears out a little more on that front!
But I also just frankly don't think that canines are that clued into human pheromones overall in this universe, or at least, not in a way where they often super care about them? Like, I'm sure more high strung, neurotic dogs would get stressed, but I think it would be the same amount of stress they'd show if someone was emotional or distraught or stressed in general, not necessarily something that blows up purely in response to pheromone production.
2. I know you may just not know yet, but do you think Ef will ever use his safeword? I'm a huge sucker for the moment when a character safewords and their partner respects it and you feel that trust. Loved it in Eversion and TWW!
You may not have read it (and there's no obligation to!), but Efnisien uses his safeword/s a ton in Falling Falling Stars, to the point where desensitising him to safewords is part of his character arc, so I'm on the fence about if/when he'll use it in this story.
I kind of like the whole spectrum of safeword usage, from 'not at all' to 'all the time.' I've just come from a fic where Efnisien was using it all the time (Falling Falling Stars) so I'm not likely to have anything like that in the fic that follows. Efnisien's personality here is along a poor communication spectrum with a preference for letting someone take control in the bedroom, and the safeword is there mostly for reader comfort, because I don't think Efnisien wants one at all. Which isn't to say he'll never use it - because I have no plan for this story dslkajfsd - but in all the future scenes I've imagined between them, there's none where the safeword is being used, and that's not always because Efnisien is 100% on board with what's happening.
(Discussion of Gary's attitude towards safeword under the Read More, which some folks may find unpleasant).
It's funny in a way, in all of canon Fae Tales, Augus never allows Gwyn a safeword once, doesn't even suggest it, and most of their early scenes are back and forth rape, basically, and then it shifts to dubcon and 'pretty much never negotiated CNC - the consent is that neither of them leave and they're in love' lol. The Wildness Within was the first ever fic where he introduced a safeword system, and I remember thinking 'canon Augus could never' lmao.
Gary really only has a safeword system so he doesn't get taken to court, because every single time he's had sex with alphas (including James a lot of the time), it was always dubious consent, and never 100% enthusiastic consent anyway. He would definitely honour a safeword, but like, if an alpha he picked up for the weekend used that safeword, he'd also feel low key pretty dismissive of them for it, like 'you wanted to sleep with a peak alpha, what the hell did you expect.' I doubt he'd say that, but he certainly wouldn't be sticking around to offer aftercare, so much as 'oh good, I'll leave then, call a friend or something. I'm going back to the club / pub to pick someone up who won't bail halfway through.'
I think he'd be much more likely to be compassionate/caring with a partner like James or Efnisien, but at the same time, I think he doesn't want a partner who's going to safeword a lot and he'd probably be not very attracted to them if they did x.x As Gary says to Efnisien in a later chapter:
‘I’ve been told it doesn’t feel very nice,’ Gary added. Then: ‘Sleeping with a peak alpha isn’t the same as sleeping with alphas or omegas or betas. We’re not…the same. It’s not just about having a knot, it’s not just about having a large cock, we need to be a controlling partner in a way that seeks to overwhelm. The only reason we can trust Augus with omegas is that he channels all his peak alpha urges into very experienced BDSM. He’ll use ropes and restraints where most of us will just fuck someone unconscious. So Augus can be around omegas, because he knows how to take their control without harming them. Most peak alphas are dangerous to be around anyone carnally. We are predisposed to ripping people’s consent away. The urge to rape and debase is built in.’
This is a dystopian universe with a rape/noncon warning, and the rape/noncon warning applies to Gary and Efnisien, because the dubious consent at times is extremely dubious.
It probably seems extreme, but I think the flip is so strong because Falling Falling Stars was trauma informed, consent focused, safeword celebratory, and probably the most consensual thing I've ever written in my life.
And it's not the only kind of story I enjoy writing. I started out writing serials that had no safewords at all, and it's often my preference, so... well now we have a kind of broad mix! :D

My thoughts on Dr. Stone’s S03E02 (“Greed Equals Justice”)
(Safe to read for anime-only folks.)
My thoughts after watching Season Three, Episode Two:
01. Kohaku and Chrome like Senku's incredibly burnt bread, but poor Ryusui really, really wants a professional chef! That face he made looked so sketchy XD
02. This OP seems to be a lot less spoilery compared to past OPs! There's still stuff there that you can see, but not as much as it could have been. I guess they really wanted to keep some of the good stuff as a surprise! :D
03. The title of the second episode... Greed Equals Justice! :)
04. "Journalass" :D And she looked away, which must have showed Gen that Ryusui was onto something! And Minami does have an AWESOME name for a journalist! :D
05. Ah, we got some invention flashbacks! :)
06. "Enough for a tiger cub?" Hahaha! Is that some sort of Japanese idiom? It sounds funny and cool! XD
07. Francois is here! :) I think that when I first read the manga, I thought she would either have red hair or a red outfit. But since they gave Ryusui a red outfit in the anime, it makes sense that they'd give Francois a different color!
08. I like how she just started walking in presumably the right direction, since they didn't tell her she was going the wrong way. It's like she has a mental compass pointing straight to Ryusui XD
09. So Ryusui doesn't remember Francois' real name or gender... but he remembers her fashion style, and her clothing and shoe sizes? That's... some selective memory there :O
10. ...And she walked into the conversation, just like that! XD Poor Gen... this isn't the first time he's had to go through those woods without rest... AND he's barefoot! :O
11. Poor modern-timers... XD Kohaku and Chrome's stick figures looked happy, though! :D
12. Somebody asking Senku for an even MORE accurate figure than he's already provided... I don't blame him for looking perplexed XD
13. Time for stollen! :) Ah, so Kohaku knows how to use that... that... animal-catching thingy! That's good info! She surprised Ukyo with her animal catching, and Francois with her butter making :D
14. And the elderly folks are helping with the stollen, too! Pretty convenient that those berry plants are around their height! :)
15. Pretty cool to see Senku learning something and being on the sidelines while somebody else is doing the teaching! And he and Ryusui got scolded XD
16. Hmm, I'm going to have to figure out when they found the time to build that bread oven... It's too large to just be former iron forge, although they could have used some of the same bricks... but, no, even these new bricks are too large and square... :O
17. Senku helped by injecting water into the oven! :) And Francois totally wants him... to be part of the future Nanami Conglomerate :D
18. Chrome's so happy, Kohaku likes it, and even Ukyo is teary-eyed... :) We can also see random villagers enjoying it! And Francois showed us how to make bread! :)
19. Poor Minami... But everybody is so happy about Francois' bread! XD And there it is again, "tiger cub's worth of revival fluid" XD
20. While the others were talking about what Minami wanted in return, Kohaku was just in the background, quietly gobbling up that loaf of bread :D And aww, Kohaku's very considerate of Kaseki! :)
21. That car, those clothes, that drip... wow, Kaseki! :O ...Although the clothes didn't last for very long... XD
22. Some building, some science, and voila, a mirror! Another invention that Chrome and the elderly folks are enjoying! :)
23. That's what Minami REALLY wanted... a camera! :D And we got bits of backstory about her! It is SO in-character for a journalist to want to photograph the green light of the pertrification! She was the one who made me cry this episode. She made such a beautiful promise to Senku and the rest of them! :)
24. Grr, Senku... XD Well, at least Minami's going to take the first photo... and it's great that Ryusui knew who the subject of the stone world's first ever photograph should rightly be :)
25. Francois has great insight into Ryusui's motivations and desires! :O
26. A suit; an old-timey waistcoat thingy; some kind of rockstar getup that totally makes him look like Byakuya (and that buckle, hahaha! I see you, animators :D); another modern outfit, and... huh?! :O
27. Senku sticking his tongue out - the pose of the modern world's most famous scientist, recreated by the stone world's most famous scientist! :D
28. I wonder if those circle thingies in the ED are elements that somehow relate to the five wise generals? :O
29. Francois has joined the party; we've acquired bread, mirrors, and photography; and Minami took the very first photo in the stone world! :) But, oh, the next episode... "First Contact..." I CANNOT wait! :O I'm going to watch it right after I publish this post! :D

how long does it take you to draw and colour? since you post everyday which is great for me :D any tips for colouring cause Im still tryna figure all that out
hmm welllll, i don't exactly time how long it takes to draw but my partner said that sometimes i'll be working on a piece when they go to sleep and i'll still be working on it when they wake up 7 hours later so...my guess is anywhere from 3-8 hours each depending on complexity? at least for the art that i normally post, most of which is relatively simple.
not entirely sure what kind of tips you were looking for, but i'll just throw out some of my thought processes and stuff i try to keep in mind whenever i color. i'm gonna try and keep these relatively to the point so i won't go into much detail on art terms n whatnot, BUT i am also pretty terrible at explaining things so if you need clarification on anything, feel free to ask!
(sorry it's so longggg, i got carried away. i am...very wordy when it comes to art lol)
i like to block in the colors during the sketching stage before i do the lineart, especially for pieces where i know i want to do something funky with the color palette. you can see this in a lot of my process shots. doing colors in the planning stage just gives me a lot more freedom to focus purely on the colors and shading and how they work with the composition, without having to worry about the minute details like making sure the colors are inside the lines.
in order to save time while coloring, i'll usually just select the negative space (after making sure all the lineart is closed) > expand selection by 1 pixel (to make sure the edges are hidden within the liineart) > invert selection > fill bucket, then use clipping layers above that to color individual areas.
layer modes are your friend! i use multiply, overlay, and glow dodge (this one may be specific to mangastudio?) in almost every one of my drawings, but it's definitely worth playing around with all of the modes just to familiarize yourself with them if you haven't already.
color is honestly SO subjective. i'm never a fan of color picking (from source material or my own refs or whatever) bc while it may have its uses when it comes to consistency, imo it's much more fun to make them up as i go. you get a lot more variety from piece to piece while also familiarizing yourself with the character's palette that way. usually i'll start by deciding on the overall mood/palette (cool/warm, de-saturated, neon, pastel, etc), filling in the background color, then picking the characters' colors based on that. like with this venti pic, i started with a purple background and based my colors around that purple so they all fit the specific look i was going for. i could maybe get a similar effect by starting with the normal colors and using filters, shading, layer modes, etc to get the funky colors, but it will be much harder/more work and doesn't get as drastic of an effect imo.
Tumblr media
on that note, don't be afraid to use shades/colors that may seem odd! you'd be surprised how many times i've used gray in place of blue, orange, purple..basically any color. in the above example, you can see just how different the colors ended up being from the original. after i decide on my palette + bg color, i'll just throw down the color i think will work and then (bc that first guess is usually wrong and meant only as a ballpark estimate) see if it needs to be warmer or cooler/darker or lighter/more or less saturated/etc and adjust accordingly. it's like mixing paint or tuning an instrument! it takes a little bit of practice, but after a while you start to get the hang of what colors will look like in which color palettes. white is usually the easiest to start with bc it will always just be tinted whatever color your palette is (like how the "white" in the above example is just a light purple).
this and the next point are more about shading but i include it as part of the coloring process: the easiest way i've learned to do shading is to darken the entire image/character/part you want to shade (usually with a solid color multiply layer) then add in the lighting either by erasing parts of the multiply layer or by using a separate layer set to overlay or glow dodge (or a similar lightening layer mode). it works a lot better than drawing the shadows imo because it kind of mimics how light works in real life; things are dark by default until you let light in and it hits what it can while leaving the rest still dark.
if you want to blend shadows, i usually still use the above method, but just blur certain areas of it and when i'm deciding which parts to blur (bc i don't just do so indiscriminately) i'll mentally sort all of the shadows into 2 categories:
shadows created by light being blocked by an object: like putting your hand in front of a flashlight. these shadows will retain their sharp edge, but can transition into the 2nd category if they are far enough from the obstruction, like how your hand's shadow will become blurrier the further you move it from the flashlight. the more distance between a light source and the surface it's projecting onto, the more chances for the light to scatter = softer edges
shadows created by light "rolling" off the surface: like the shadows on a ball or rounded surface. these will get blurred and i usually like to put a little bit of color along the blurred edge (a different and usually brighter/more saturated color than the rest of the shadows) just to add some life to the shadows.
here's an annotated version of this mikey pic with just the shadows so it's a lot easier to see :) sorry im bad at annotating..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aaaand this post has probably gotten way longer than you were hoping for so i'll cut it off here 😭 hope this has been at least somewhat useful, and good luck with your art!

Genuinely impressed by how realistic Barbie and Her Sisters in a Pony Tale (God that's an unnecessarily long title) is when it comes to horse etiquette, especially when it comes to Stacie
I rode for a good couple of years, so this is probably the first hobby~ movie I've seen from Barbie so far where I actually like,,, know a thing or two about the main subject (pretty much all of the others before it are ballet ones I think, and I never got very far when it came to my dancing lessons lol)
It's really cool watching Stacie fumble her mounting, brushing, and riding (mostly due to poor communication with her horse) and being able to actually SEE what she's doing wrong rather than just being told by the story she is, like! Sure, it's all pretty basic stuff, but it's also clear because of it that the people working on this movie were passionate enough about it to learn how to portray all of that in such a clear way, and that makes it really fun to watch!
Stacie getting up on her horse again after a bad, scary fall is a relatively minor plot-point, but it's still one I personally appreciated a lot- falling from a beast that can crush you in a second is REALLY scary, and getting back up again isn't to be taken for granted! She's shown to be really scared and a bit traumatized by the jump that she fell during, and I like that! It's more than understandable, and I admire her for giving it another shot and learning how to make it work together with her horse! It can be very easy to start to resent your horse after something like that, and she definitely starts off down that route where fear is about to get the better of her, so I'm genuinely happy for her that Barbie helped her past that hurdle. Your first big fall is the scariest and it can very easily cause people to quit altogether, but it's definitely a fear that can be conquered and overcome! I had a real big fall pretty early after I started riding, and it's to date probably one of the most surreal experiences I've ever had in my life, but I had the instructors and other kids there with me in the aftermath, so I got back on and kept riding for years after that! And I still for sure fell again after that, and eventually I did stop riding because for some reason I became scared over time, which honestly, is probably had a lot to do with the fact that I didn't have my own horse and had to switch horses a lot, and it's exhausting when you're constantly having to learn how to handle a new horse... And also that one horse I was paired with for A WHILE that was honestly probably way too small for me because I kept falling forward on her mane (which was highly unpleasant for both of us). Like, fr, horseriding truly is a rich person sport lol, it's so much easier when you just have your own horse that you can form a proper connection with!!! Anywayyy
I love that you can really feel both the stable camaraderie AND the underlying animosity born out of jealousy that, in my experience, at least, was a staple of my horseriding days, like! Everyone is there to have a good time with horses, but at the same time there's a lot of envy towards "the good riders", the ones who participate in all the competitions and are treated a bit like celebrities (and sometimes act like ones because of it), like!! Yeah this Barbie movie 100% nailed the vibe it was going for!! Financial troubles? Horses running away? Those are the sort of things that make everyone band together because ultimately, most everyone just wants these horses to be as safe and comfortable as possible!
I was also really scared they were going to make Etienne the villain so I'm glad he wasn't, even though his fat, scheming, ALSO french brother being the villain is not a much better look, but like... Good for Etienne, I like him, he seems like a good coach who has to deal with a lot of shit and takes it all with grace because he loves his job! I was really happy with the way they showed that Philippe was the outlier in terms of poor sportsmanship and desire to just profit off of horses, and that even his coworkers and family disapprove of his behavior. Like! You can win all the races, but that won't matter to anyone if you're also a nasty person to be around... Those kinds of people are very much still present in the horseriding circuits, but they suck and that kind of behavior is really not acceptable
This movie just?? Really brought me back to those days in the best way possible, it's so much fun and genuinely a good film, and like! For something with that kind of name I was expecting it to be either really boring or really lame (Perfect Christmas is the perfect example, god that one sucked), so it was a really nice treat for it to be especially good! All the sisters got their own neat plots that worked well too, I feel like I was about equally invested in all of them which was great! God, please let the other Barbie&co films be just as good!!

Heyy, how/when you realised you were aro and ace? It is always interesting for me to listen to how people found themselves. (I still haven't xD)
Alright it's time !
Ok so I actually got lot to say and could talk about that subject for hours lol but the more I thought about it the more I have to say and the more some specifics things exhaust me and remind me of not really great stuff so let's keep it simple ! (+ there's a few personal stuff I don't wanna discuss publicly
Process to do a whole explanation on aromantism and asexuality in the first part...
First should i explain simply what is asexuality and aromantism are 🤔 ? I can understand it can be a bit complex for people who don't know what it is. Even I got confused at times XD
I will try to explain really simply here and I'm not the best at explaining stuff. So for more info there's the Aven website for exemple and there's many other cool sources online 👍
So to put it really really simply someone asexual is someone who don't feel or experience sexual attraction ((like most people.)) (Most of the time it don't ever happened at all but it can be extremely rare (gray ace) or it happened only get it if you're really close to someone (Demi ace).
The way I personally saw it is that I'm not going to go somewhere and want to hook up with the first nice/pretty person I meet in a bar and is interest in me or smt for exemple XD. (I know it's really cliché sorry, glad to know not everyone actually do that too lol but you get the idea. It happened to some people and it's ok I hope they have lots of fun everyone ! 👍 Really when I was a kid it got me super confused to see that in movies and still today I'm like ?????? ok sure ??? have fun ??? like theoricaly I know it work but I can't experience it .I can't relate, that would be just forcing myself do something I don't wanna do.)
Asexual can still experience romantic attraction and want to do normal dating stuff too. Like it's just there's not that super interest in the other thing you know XD they're not after you're booty (I can't believe I'm writing this)
And aromantic is really similar, it's when someone who don't experience romantic attraction ((like most people)). Or some do experience it really rarely or after a really close bond with smn. Still they can experience sexual attraction.
Personally I found hard to understand why people would date smn when they don't know each other very well? And then learn to really know each other when they date? That's completely ok but I really can't imagine myself with someone who's not a close friend of mine that & I knew for a while at the very least. Like what if you find out they're not a good person or an absolute idiot or you realize your life projects are incompatibles?? That's too scary for me💀
Like I understand how that work theorically but if a friend tell me they had a crush on smn we saw like just a few times I would bet so confuse.
Then aroace is well both things XD
Disclaimer : yes an aromantic person can still enjoy/want to date someone and an asexual person can still have/want and enjoy being intimate with someone. Some on the contrary are completely revulsed by it that and will never want to do that. And for some it depends. It's kinda a spectrum and depends what the person is comfortable with and might depends a bit of the other partner too. + people grow and a few things might fluctuate or not.
It's all about feeling ATTRACTION. Like for exemple a hetero girl (normally) is not going to be attracted to like another girl. And a gay man will be well attracted to men. What people don't always equal what they're attract too.
Still you know you can have aesthetic attention and stuff like that. Like : oh that person look pretty or pleasing to look at #stantardbeauty stuff made by society. But I don't find them hot💀 dafuq does that even mean XD (now I think I might get it. I'm unsure lol) More likely that I would very much prefer to be friends with smn really out of the standard look for exemple.
I won't see a person (ok more a picture or smt) with less clothes on for exemple and be like "oh" 😳. Like that's just a person WHAT DO YOU MEAN ???????
The closet I get too is : oh this characters (maybe work for people too) look super cool ! 👀🥺idk how to explain they look so cool and nice and pretty. Hm
+omg teenager (pre teens especially) talking about s3x all the time omg 💀 why?! Like it annoyed me so much I just wanted to talk about manga, books, movies and video games XD when it's serious convo it's cool but I didn't get it and those dumb jokes 😂 (some ace do many jokes too depends of the person). I really didn't like the subject at all (especially in not fiction) but now I'm way more ok with it in fiction now 👍 and with it in general I I think? (the jokes I mean)
I know my ideas of romance and all (in fiction hm) is the most vanilla and fluff things ever too (ok I imagined angst in my head smt) XD but I also need moments to compensate you know ^^' ?
OK now that the presentation is done. let's answer to the main question XD. I hope I explain correctly ahaha 😅 (I can't even do that easily in real life...)
Well, I think I kinda knew something was up when I was a pre teenager but I didn't knew the right terms at the time. I didn't knew/understood that most people were well allo sexual/romantic (who experience romantic and sexual attraction easly👍 the opposite of ace and aro)
So I fully realized I was ace then aro (some times after) and came across the terms in hm 2017 if I remember correctly ? Or wait maybe in 2018? (thank you teenager crisis and depressed state I can't remember this period well !) So when I was 16+ after my first year of high school. (But like first and last time I had a boyfriend I was like 10 years old lmao. I liked him but I was happy because everyone was happy you. Almost got with a friend at 12 but didn't work out. )
So hm high school happen and some of my friends and I got new cool friends and we become a super group of friends ! (only like a fw couples formed and it's cute <3 and I thought I had a crush and 1 if not 2 of my new friends 💀 that was a platonic crush Fantomette you didn't wanted do to anything with them pat pat
Then months later I come across the sacred word ! 🙏 : asexual
"Oh wait that's me" -big aro and ace moment (and much later aromantic)
Still figuring things out today because it's quite complex but yeah 100% sure I'm on the acespec spectrum. And well I don't really experience this types of attraction for what I'm aware of. But who knows it is possible I found someone I feel comfortable and close enough with to be in a relationship (even a queer platonic relation ship hehe) but well I don't wanna bet on thet so who knows.
I think I have friends on the spectrum (irl) too but sadly we didn't really talked about it that much.. only with a few non close friend from high school and we kinda loose touch. But I'm happy I know more people who well understand. My friends we really acceptant but some didn't all really fully understand and I can understand that but somedays were not fun XD but well they're great friends (+ with well a few people who are themself queer or really understanding of that it help. But it's nothing compared to the dumbasses who were really not nice (the worst if that some saying the most mean thing were even lgbt+ themself 😭and I could say nothing like I couldn't just came out to them not a good idea I hate most of my classmates from 2020-2022 sorry guys <;/3 and I can't really blame my relatives who didn't understand well, they might try their but it's complicated
+ I can count the people who show interest in me (that I'm aware of) since high school on my fingers. Like some days I really wanna have a soulsmate or smt (or maybe someone I will be close to but at our rhythm) because yes having someone to share your life with can be cool and sounds nice? but the second someone (I don't know well) show interest in me I'm like :
Tumblr media
NO THANK YOU I'M NOT INTEREST HELP WHAT DO I DO
Somedays I think meh maybe I could try ??? but idk.
So well if that happened that happened cool ! if that don't happened that don't happened ! I just wish people just weren't annoying about it. The "have you a boyfriend ?" question traumatized me I think XD I mean it's not like the first question I would ask smn, but when it's been a while you saw a friend or relatives or are knowing someone slowly it can be important to know if they share they're life with smn, normal. So in normal circumstance I wouldn't mind but hm... the commentaries after 🙄, when I answer "no" sometimes it's gold ! Like don't ask me why ! bruh do I ask why you don't have/have a boyfriend/girlfriend or why you're married or why you have children???? or how don't worry you will find the right one later ! LIKE please don't. I understood super late it's actually reassuring for allo but it's not for me 😅 Like I wish too smt lol but there's lot of chance it don't happened too so pls. Can people just say it's ok if that don't happened more ;-; that you can be happy and accomplish great things on while living on your own (or not the usual family definition) and it's ok ?
Sorry for the rant just don't do that to people whatever their orientation are you don't know know what they have going on in life. Just a "ok" and move on. Or I guess you could ask more but only if the person wanna talk about it you know. So yeah when someone ask me the question (more when it's relatives I know well) it really really annoy me all the time. But well I was lucky it could been worse. Still not cool but I wish everyone didn't had go through more awful things.
(Also strangely maybe I dodge huge bullets because I just wasn't interest to the first person who came so... fair enough. And damn how do you know smn crush on you or smn else ?? I am so bad to saw that thing XD)
Ok that was long I ramble a bit XD I just needed to express myself x) I will stop here.
I have a lot on the heart and not lying some days it's hard I wish it was simpler but I don't see how I could be happy otherwise. (SO goal n°1 in my life : finish study, have a job, a house & adopt cats or smt. Optional goal : maybe found a fellow person to hang hung with me ! Or at least cool friends x)
And I'm so happy to knew otherace and aro and aroace persons online 🥺❤️ and really supportive person in general.
So yes I'm glad I learned about this and hope I can help people to learn a bit about it as well. It's really important for many. And I wish there were more stuff about it. It's complicated to understand what you cannot fully understand and ever experiment but it's important to just be kind and open and to accepted.
So love you everyone bye bye~

April TC Challenge 1-8 | from @morethanwords0475 | also sorry for the long-ass answers I have quite literally nothing better to do with my time and got very carried away lol
Happy April Fool’s! Have you ever pranked your TC; if so, how did they react? I have not. I mean ill joke with them a tiny bit but never actual prank pranks. they r too scary and I am afraid what'll happen if I prank either of them lmao 💀
What is the earliest thing you can remember about your TC? damn I remember a tiny bit before the pandemic with П but no specific memories. but its crazy because I remember little before the pandemic. but for Б since I haven't known her as long I remember our first lesson and even down to what we worked on.
Do you like your TC’s subject? Do you consider yourself to be good at it? I love my tc's subjects. I mean... they both teach the same thing kind of. one is just orchestra conductor and one is private teacher. I love and am okay enough at classical music and the viola to want to continue it as a profession (right now at least and hopefully this will continue and I won't burn out).
How do you feel about your age gap? hmm well its a lot bigger than others. its funny because they are almost exactly the same age only separated by a few months. i'm always attracted to women older than me but idk. its not as weird with Б since I see her much more platonically (I think it will stay platonic🤞). idek with П.
Have you ever said anything to your TC that showed you favoured them? Have they said anything like that to you? if П doesn't know by now she is the stupidest person I've ever met. but I think she knows bc is very obvious I favor her and I think I've said to her face and written in cards n shit that she's one of the best teachers I've ever had. П also openly favors me in front of her classes with things she says and does (I could make a whole other post abt this). Б somehow knows every thought that goes through my head lmao so yeah. no fr tho I think she can see my admiration for her just through little things ive done around her/for her.
Have you ever noticed any small habits that they have? If so, what comes to mind first? П subtly sways back and forth when just sitting down and often fidgets with her hands/fingers, selves, buttons on clothes, zippers, etc. Б crosses her legs in a really specific way only when she's sitting on this tall stool she has in her front room. she also always wears her hair in the same way every day unless its a concert and even sometimes if its a concert she'll wear it like that.
What gift would you really like to be able to give them, regardless of if it’s realistic or not? I have this insatiable urge to get П a really nice neckless and get myself a similar one too. it would be really dainty and pretty and I have a few I have seen in mind. or get her some really nice perfume. but no I would seem like a creep especially with the perfume lmao I don't wanna turn into villanelle. idk what I would get Б, it would probably be something small and a very "its the thought that matters" gift bc she likes that stuff . or maybe some cool crystals or one of those little tied friendship bracelets if I had to pic something rn :))
Does your TC ever talk about what it was like when they were still a student? YESS!! they both do and I love hearing all their stories! they tell me about regular school teachers but especially music teachers of theirs and how they learned. they both grew up in 1980s Hungary so its just cool to hear about the classical music world and education then. Б has noticed I like hearing the stories and always tells me some at the end of lessons now!!

While your mushrooms are simmering, cube your potatoes. When the 5 minutes are up, dump the potatoes on top of the mushrooms and add the water. Stir the mixture so that the potatoes sink to the bottom and the mushrooms rise to the top. Cover and bring to a rolling boil.
When the water reaches a high bowl, reduce the heat to medium and keep covered for 20 minutes or until potatoes are softened.
While the vegetables and seasonings cook, cube your cream cheese and shred your parmesan and cheddar. Set them aside.
After the 20 minutes is up, remove the pot from heat and let contents stand uncovered for at least 5 minutes before adding the cheeses. The pot must cool somewhat or it will break the cream cheese and ruin your meal. There is no saving the meal if that happens. If the pot becomes too cool and you find the cheeses aren't blending, you can put it back on the burner covered on low to reheat it slowly.
With everything now in the pot, grab your potato masher and start smashing the potatoes and cream cheese cubes. When the potatoes are mashed and the soup thickens, use the masher and just stir the soup until the cream cheese is thoroughly blended.
Some notes:
I don't bother to peel the potatoes because the skins are nutritious and relatively thin on Yukon golds, but you're obviously welcome to do so if you prefer.
Wearing a mask when snipping the green onions will keep you from tearing up!
The soup keeps in the refrigerator for about a week and a half. Add 1/2 cup of milk when reheating.
This is my own recipe, which actually grew out of my potato soup recipe. It's one of my favorite meals when I feel sick and it makes a ton. Outside of chopping veggies, it's not very intensive either. You can easily halve the recipe as well.
When I started doing nature photography, I wanted to identify and learn about my subjects. I found edible plants and mushrooms fascinating because I'm a pretty adventurous eater, so I started looking for ways to implement the stuff I found. Mushrooms, in particular, have a lot of health benefits that scientists are just discovering and different varieties are entering the broader consumer market. Safeway only just began carrying shiitake, oysters, and chanterelles in the last couple of years. Private grow kits are also available for people who like to grow their own food.
Try this recipe with your own regional mushroom varieties and experiment with the seasonings a little.

I feel like I should specify that all the electricity I had in high school was calculating the resistance on parallel and sequenced circuits (or both). Which basically requires you to know like 2 formulas, when to use them and how to reform them to get what you want. It’s very visual too, which means being dyslexia gives me a boost because anything visual becomes a lot easier.
I also had some electricity last year because God knows why my teacher fell the need to throw that in (it wasn’t even a physics course! If I wanted physics I would have chosen Physics!). I was terrible at that (I can barely remember what it was). In my defence the teacher never taught us any of it, all of it was self tuition which is hell with dyslexia as severe as mine. Like I have other teachers who do guided self tuitions where you essentially get ‘tests’ you have to make, but they are open book so you’re just supposed to look it up while making it and then you’ll at least know what is and isn’t important. Pure self tuition sucks because I cannot differentiate between what is and isn’t important and everything takes me twice as long and twice as much energy as a Nero typical student (as you can image, lockdown was a special kind of hell I only got through because my friends would sent me their answers for all the heavy reading assignments so I could copy it.)
Also, STEM is very cool and fun. It’s so useful for world building. The amount of times I slide into my STEM friends’ DM’s to ask worldbuilding related questions and discuss what I could and couldn’t pull of with suspension of disbelief is so much fun. Not to mention that learning how you body works is awesome and good for the hypochondria. BUT the way STEM is taught is often very shit. Both in high school and in uni. They tend to get split into separate subjects when all of them connect, making teacher dependant on each other to build their subject matter. And I have friends in uni who will spend like an 8-10 hour day in a lab every week , who then have to write and finish a lab report by the next week.
Lastly,
Me 🤝 Snowflake
Being hella game for the royalty au when it drops and ready to analyse it it shreds.
P.s. oooooooohhhhhhhhh, kitties!
-🌲
that's the kind of electricity stuff I had to do too and it was so difficult for me to grasp 😭 which didn't make sense bc like you said it's literally just two formulas you have to plug stuff into but idk maybe my uni course went more into detail i dont remember
man having to teach yourself concepts like that is the worst. guided self teaching is fine like you said especially with open book tests, but pure self teaching is so hard because if you get confused on one thing it feels like everything falls apart. and i'm sure for you it was especially difficult with having to read so much stuff on your own. I definitely get the lockdown thing too, my grades spiraled down over lockdown and never fully recovered (and that was the year i failed a class for the first time ever. feelsbadman fuck organic chemistry)
but like you said STEM topics are very useful to know about for worldbuilding purposes (like me heavily bullshitting a somewhat scientific explanation for tommy's healing power in clinic so there's logical reasoning to it lmao)
lab reports... don't remind me shudders

September 3 - the beginning
Hello there ! And welcome to my first ever blog post. This is the beginning of putting my life down in posts that I then plan to look back at when I'm older. It's a way for me to see how I was feeling when I was a certain age, or what cool stuff I did that made me change as an individual. Because not only is this a way to put my life into words, it also lets me think about the world and certain topics in a way that I adore to do. How the blog posts are gonna work is fairly simple. All the key talking points are stylized as headers. The first headers are all gonna be events that have happened in my life, and the morals of the story that go along with it. After that, I give my humble opinion about certain topics that have recently gone into my busy head or that I've experienced firsthand. The meaning of this blog is not for it to be all about me. I want you, the reader, to feel how this might affect your own life. In small bite-sized chunks, I want to give slice-of-life content that might inspire you to start doing something similar like this. Perhaps you might also learn something new from this that you might have never thought about.Whatever that might be, in the end I hope you enjoy reading these posts. Thank you so much already for making it to here. Now let's get onto it, shall we?
The final first school day
September 1st, a day every student under the age of 18 despises. Letting go of summer is already hard enough, and to have it been made worse with the start of having a huge responsibility on your back is something that sits with people a lot I reckon, at least it has done for me. Starting school is never easy, during the summer I had quite a plan on how I wanted the year to go. I wanted to start getting to make summaries for each subject I'm having, which I had never done before at this point. I bought a bullet journal and actually tried to start using it. Of course, starting to do something that goes against your normal habits is never an easy task to do. That's what almost set me off for doing it in the first place. It could only work if everything must be perfect, right? That's what went through my mind when I started hatching this "first day of school" plan. Anyhow, the summer came and went, and so began the first school day, which would also be my final one.
Tumblr media
The day was an incredibly rainy one, but luckily also a very short one considering I needed to be there more later in the day. In the end I only had 3 classes that I needed to partake in. Meeting my classmates from last year was fun, as was meeting my teachers. They all were a little agitated by the fact that school started again (apart from the teachers), but the atmosphere was great. Most of the day went great with getting the usual info and a few starting lessons, I'm very proud to be in a class where there is a sense of community between us all, and that makes the school experience good.
Having Friday as the first school day is a good thing, considering you only need to go there one time and then you can rest a bit, take everything in that you experienced, the flashbacks, the vibe, everything about it, and be ready when you're heading for a full week of this thing. And I believe I'm very ready for it. I hope that you were/are ready for it too. I have faith you're gonna do so good !! My weekend wasn't anything major compared to the first school day, but I did went to bike in the night with tons of lights, they are on my Instagram. That's where I'll leave it at now, I'm kinda not feeling well writing this due to a personal event, it happens to all of us. I'll be writing more next week. Thank you for reading.

We interrupt this blog's regularly scheduled bullshittery to bring you a rant/review. It goes without saying, this will be a long post.
I'm not usually the type to brush off older media, even when said shows, games and whatnot haven't received any attention by the copyright holders in decades, or even when said attention finally comes and it's horrible to say the least or just not my taste. A huge exception to this rule was GI Joe and the reason is very simple: pretty much everyone agrees that it's not very good.
The cartoons are not so subtle toys commercials and there are a lot of characters on both sides sometimes showing up for maybe a handful of episodes at best. Something has to be very good for me to commit to learning that many names. And Quick Kick making me forget how laughing feels like had the potential to scare me off.
But it turns out that for this many goodie goodie guys, there's an array of villains that are actually fun, most of the time. So here I am, many hours later, ready to rank all (animated) GI Joe iterations. For this I will consider the Joes and Cobra as groups, as well as the show as a whole. This is of course subjective.
Tumblr media
Sigma 6: This is the first show I watched because it was shorter than the Sunbow show. It feels like an early 2000s commercial and this weird anime twist they gave it doesn't work well mosts of the time. Some of the designs are really cool, the pacing is ok but they are a little confused as to what they're going for. Sigma is big, loud and cool. Every guy, gun and battleship is huge. The stakes are high and there are big explosions, but they go from making it a big deal when they blow up one Cobra ship in one episode to it being a background thing achieved with any guns later on. The show could have worked better as a Transformers show. They already have a mandatory useless kid and CC is a bad Megatron anyway. Tunnel Rat is a terrible Larry Butz wannabe and I wish he didn't exist in this show. Whenever there's ninjas on the screen, you can't look away, but Zartan and the Dreadnoks are the only part I'd salvage from this show. The rest is truly eh.
Sunbow show & Serpentor: You can never beat the classics, they say. You definitely can't beat the convoluted process you have to go through to watch this show. There are two mini series of 5 episodes each which are very good. They establish the characters well on both sides and can easily be rewatched back to back whenever. The syndicated show has its ups and downs but overall is enjoyable if you have a way to keep busy during the fighting scenes with all the cool military equipment available at your local toy store. The nice thing about these old shows is that you can watch at your own pace. It's a monster of the week, or Cobra scheme of the week kind of deal, there is no pressure in how much time you dedicate to it. Some of the plots are wacky but I personally find them charming and the banter between Cobra members is usually the best part.
Season 2 on the other hand hits different, especially to a Ghostbusters fan. It isn't Q5 levels, but it screams corporate interference and these screams of course come from Serpentor. Season 2 starts from the assumption that it’s a good idea to justify plot twists by saying "it happened off screen lol". You can do this if what you're introducing is really good and Serpentor is not. He's loud, incredibly dumb and doesn't even do what he's supposed to other than be a placeholder to sell a rejected He-Man vehicle. A fool dressed in a snake suit is also terribly out of place in a show about military vs terrorists. One could argue that Mindbender also has no business parading his tits around, but that's the one good thing he does.
Overall, the show remains good (compared to some of what came after) and it has the best version of Cobra. They get up to some wacky stuff but they're funny and iconic.
Renegades: This show isn't ranked this high because of its plot. If you're going to do A-Team, at least make it lighthearted. It tends to be a bit repetitive in its tragedy. All the Joes are introduced as sad and hurt by Cobra, a faceless corporation looking to acquire direct political power through an army of robots and mutants that would fit nicely in a cyberpunk novel. I'm not a fan of "We remade this show with 30% more sad", but this time I actually can't take it seriously because Cobra shares PR departments with Amazon. This show is also the only one to remember that the Crimson Twins exist, so it gets extra points.
That being said, and putting aside that Flint has been turned into a bloody moron here, it probably has the most compelling version of the Joes. It doesn't have Quick Kick, it accomplishes the amazing task of making Tunnel Rat somewhat likable and Scarlett isn't just "girl with gun". What they did to Shipwreck is unforgivable, but the rest is great and I wish it didn't get cancelled before they could develop what they were setting up.
DiC: No. Just no. It's cheap. The designs are horrible. Destro has literally rusted offscreen. CC's outfit makes him look like a discount Starscream. The new characters are awful. There is no point in watching this. It's boring and it makes Filmation's animation look like they had a budget.
Spy Troops: Early 2000s CGI isn't great, but it doesn’t stop people from enjoying shows of the likes of Beast Wars or even this movie. No, the graphics aren't the problem with this movie, there is just very little to it. The Joes are boring, Shipwreck's hat got nerfed and the only notable Cobra effort comes from CC being a bitch boss to everyone. And if that wasn't enough, the movie also doesn't understand that if you're spending resources in animating a ninja fight, at least you should point the camera in a way that lets the audience see what the hell is going on. For this reason, Spy Troops ranks even lower than Sigma 6. There’s nothing to see here.
Valor vs Venom: This movie is good. It isn't perfect, but it works. Mindbender has been nerfed and forced to wear a lab coat, achieving full sim form while CC is constantly yelling at him. But the pacing is ok and the camera isn't drunk and in some spots it almost feels like a Sunbow episode. Destro's design is also very funny which is a plus in my book. I enjoyed it. That’s it.
Resolute: This movie represents everything I despise the most about some reboots. They take a franchise, put many resources in the animation, then make it dark and gritty expecting it to be enjoyable. There's a lot of blood and violence which of course stands out because it's animated blood. But that's for the first five minutes of watch time, then it’s just dull senseless violence. Once again, I can only appreciate CC. His outfit is very similar to Sunbow but he gets to be more than an amiable buffoon in charge of a terrorist organization. He's charismatic and scary. They did a good job but that's about it. There isn't a lot to say about Resolute. It exists.
GI Joe: The Movie (Sunbow): This one is probably raising some questions. I don't like this movie. It relies heavily on off screen action, as well as the audience forgetting what motivations even are. Cobra La is populated by a bunch of idiots who think that a giant maggot is better than an attack helicopter and who honestly believe that "We'll turn everyone into snakes!" is in fact a smart idea. The mind control bs is in fact a bullshit excuse to contextualize a movie that has no real ties with anything happened in the show outside of the Serpentor introduction and CC is written off in such a lazy way it's infuriating.
Why is it then also ranked as perfect? Well, that's because the first five minutes of this movie are actually awesome. They are what the movie should have been; the usual GI Joe but with a bigger budget to pull off actually cool fighting scenes with lots of characters doing their unique thing and a banger of a song on top of it all. Had the movie been all like this, we would be remembering it as the animated movie that succeeded where Transformers couldn't.
I won't be sitting through any of the live action stuff so the tier list ends here. Although, I must add one last entry.
Tumblr media
Cold Slither is where GI Joe really peaked. It's a Sunbow episode with all the better characters from both sides and the objectively funniest of the Cobra schemes. Like, honestly. Faced with bankruptcy and the end of Cobra, CC gets a loan in order to put his boyfriend favorite mercenary and his dorky goons in funny outfits to weaponize punk rock and make a whole lot of money to get the organization back on its feet. It's brilliant in its own convoluted way and we know it worked because this happens towards the end of season 1 and we got a whole new season later despite the Joes crashing the concert. The mind control part didn't work out but CC won anyway by turning Zartan into an influencer.
The Cobra La fools could have never thought of such a brilliant plan.

random idea/speculation about murderbot fcg - murderbot as an unintentional side effect? a lot of the stuff seems to be 'oh ofc aeorians implanted this' or 'ok they must have just gotten fucked up in the fall' but the way im thinking about it is that it was a bug? And I'd honestly love to hear ur thoughts on it
So in terms of wild speculation...just generally, I tend not to seek that out. I mean if it comes into my brain, then cool, but I guess the best way to put it is I'm not a brainstormer, and I usually don't sit around saying "well here's all the possibilities" or if I do it's because I came up with a terrible punchline that I wish to inflict upon other people and I'm going for a rule of 3 situation here. If there's clues to assemble I am all in but if there's insufficient information I'd rather sit back and let things unfold as it will probably be more interesting than what I think up. So my only real firm opinion on "what's up with FCG" is that if this was the result of what Dancer did, it was absolutely not intentional, because she seemed genuinely terrified. (Also, don't make me tap the "people have complex motivations and Good/Evil characterizations of mortal characters are largely very boring.")
What actually is interesting to me is "what needs to be done to address this, if anything", which we will hopefully learn from Dancer. If it's an implant, then there's probably little to do about it other than try to manage it as best they can. If it's damage from the fall of Aeor and wear and tear over time, then maybe it's something they can go to Aeor to fix. If it's a bug, then it could be either of those.
With that said I feel as though "it's a bug" feels...off to me. It could happen but the implications require a pretty specific sequence of events to make sense:
We know the aeormatons were considered sovereign citizens of Aeor: they were full people with rights. And while the Aeorians were definitely a society with more than period-typical hubris, as EXU Calamity shows, that doesn't mean there wasn't empathy for their own residents. If FCG were created and this was something that was unintentional and unwanted (ie, a bug), it seems like it would have been something they would have intended to address. Now, it's possible that they failed, but I guess that's not particularly interesting since this is not really a party that is designed to be able to succeed where the aeorian mages hadn't. If we had a wizard or an artificer around, maybe, but we don't.
The only thing that really works for me, therefore, if this isn't just due to damage, is if FCG was either an unwilling subject of unethical scientific experimentation a la Caleb, Astrid, and Eadwulf, in which case this is really more of an implant; or if FCG was a volunteer and this is a bug, and said volunteering occurred shortly before the fall of Aeor, before the issues could be addressed. Which still leaves us in a weird position re: what to actually do about it but it would at least be an interesting character reveal.

I've played Cyberpunk twice before but your posts have inspired me to go for my third playthrough and first as male V so I can try out the Kerry romance. Also attempting to learn my way around the AMM mod so I can play around in photo mode more, cause I'm loving the virtual photography stuff. I'm hesitant to share though cause I feel like I barely know what I'm doing (especially since photography is my actual job and I feel like I should know what I'm doing 🤦‍♀️) and you're the only person I follow that's even into Cyberpunk. Anyway, sorry for the rambling, I guess I just wanted you to know your blog inspired someone 😊
aöskdjfaödsjfdffj !!! I feel like I've unlocked a new fandom achievement :D that honestly means so much to hear that I inspired you like aaaahhh ;A;
Okayokayokay, but yes, first things first: I'm extremely biased obviously, but definitely go an play Kerry's romance! It's short (I'm just gonna assume you know his questline if you played the game twice before) but personally I found it so heartwarming and lighthearted and chaotic in a good way after all the horros V went through for the entirety of the game until then xD Also, Kerry is such a good, multilayered character and you're not gonna be in the slightest prepared for some of things he'll say to a romanced V (at least I wasn't, but I also mean that in the best way XD). Would love to hear your thoughts once you get there and I hope you'll love it as much as I do xD
Also!! Don't be shy to share your virtual photography stuff! Photography isn't my job, I do have a tiny bit of experience with it through uni (we had a half-year course once, with outdoor and photostudio shootings and all that, and I learned a lot and really enjoyed it). And it's true, there are some similarities, in terms of how to pick and frame your motives for example, but also: it's still very different tools you're using, so it's normal to not immediately get the hang of everything. I quickly went digging through my screenshot folder for some of my first pics I took in Cyberpunk just with basic photomode:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still genuinely like all of these (even though I think I didn't share all of them publically so far). But looking back with what I've learned since then (the oldest is the one with Vince on his bike, from Dec 15th '22, the newest is the one with Kerry and Nibbles, from February 22nd '23) I also know what I'd do differently to make them even cooler now xD
AMM also had a bit of a learning curve for me, still does in some regards XD But it really brought my VP to the next level, just for the immense amount of new poses compared to the 20-something or so in vanilla photomode, the nicer and more natural facial expressions, and yeah... the ability to spawn multiple characters xD You can do shippy stuff even with vanilla photomode, but with AMM there's... so... many... possibilities...
ALSO! What I'm still trying to get the hang of but which is so so nice and one of the main things I'd change about my old screenies: custom lights. Spawning different colour lights, basically having your own little photostudio setup wherever you want, however complex or simple you want, is amazing and makes a huuuge difference!!
An example of my learning curve with AMM and one of my favourite photo subjects: Arasaka!Vince
Tumblr media
Feb 2nd 2023: The first time I styled Vince to look like he did during his time with Arasaka, vanilla photomode, the only mod I had was one to enter full CC with a shortcut whenever and everywhere. Already pretty cool shot, but in hindsight, the lighting is so bad xD I think I have a version of this edited to death in Photoshop somewhere, but I can't find it atm. PS helped fix the lighting a bit, but yeh... it's still not ideal, but not much you can do about it in vanilla except play with exposure and contrast more in the effects tab.
Tumblr media
March 12th 2023: Spawned Vince with AMM, I think the pose is still a basic one that you also have in Photomode though. But his expression is an AMM one, there's custom lights, and I made use of AMM's awesome feature that lets you teleport to locations that are usually off limits (here the Arasaka Counterintel office you only get to see during the Corpo lifepath quest). Already so much better just with some red backlight and a bright frontal light that actually makes his face visible! XD This is also completely unedited!
Tumblr media
May 7th 2023: One of my recent faves, post-graphics update, which also made everything look so much nicer in general! I think I had three custom lights (pale blue from the front, bright yellow from the left, and a small white one from top). And I've become a bit less scared about getting up close and personal into his personal space XD
TL;DR: It's a process! We're all starting somewhere, and if you're not comfortable sharing your stuff yet, that's completely fine. It's a learning curve, too, but don't give up :D I think I've really discovered an amazing new creative hobby through this game in the shape of virtual photography (and unlike real people, silly pixel men will hold their pose forever without flinching and I can fly around them and take pics from every angle... but admittedly, getting them to do exactly what I want is definitely a challenge sometimes, cause I can only say "noo, go 20 pixels further in Z direction... noo, too far, 1 pixel back again!! noo, look at Kerry, don't look at yourself, that's weird, stop moving your head around so much!" but when you then get that one perfect shot it's worth the effort and fiddling XD patience really really is key though).
If you ever decide you wanna share some stuff I'd love to see :D and if you need help don't hesitate to reach out! Now I gotta apologize for rambling, but yes :D Have lots of fun with male V and virtual photography :3
