OceanBound by Beau Van Dalen
Tumblr media
A classic tale of boy-meets-girl. Except the boy, Francis, happens to be a lonely warlock bound to an island by a mysterious curse. And the girl, Angela, is a siren who tires of spending her endless days singing for sailors and eating humankind.
On a fateful night, Angela attempts to seduce Francis during one of her hunts, but suddenly realizes that she cannot, for the young warlock is deaf.
The siren is on the verge of giving up and leaving Francis be, when a tidal wave slams her to the ground and injures her badly. Instead of leaving her to die, Francis takes Angela in.
Although the two form an odd pair, they find themselves appreciating each other’s company more than they’d thought possible. However, as their friendship blossoms into romance, Angela has questions: Who is Francis, really? And why has he been cursed, when he appears to be nothing more than a lovely young man?
The siren wants answers—and she will get them, no matter what.

Hey! You! Do you like stories about Queer Romances? Trans badass MCs? Robots? Trauma???
Go check out Beau Van Dalen's Books!
@beauvandalen
They're having a rough time of it and any book you purchase, or any amount of money you give to their patreon helps immensely.
I've been reading Android Affection and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
Ian is such a compelling character, and the slums on the outskirts of Exia feel very alive, if not sad and terrifying in all the best ways.
Tumblr media
The digital version of Android Affection is available on amazon or itch.io. There is a paperback version on amazon as well.

#SocialSunday: Take A Chance: Beau Van Dalen
On Take A Chance posts, I’ll be showcasing authors I love to read, but who I don’t have contact with, for things such as interviews and teasers. I will be sharing their bio, some of the works I loved best, and a showcase of up to 5 books, if they have a larger back catalogue, as well as their social media links. ~ Beau Van Dalen Beau Van Dalen is a best-selling author of adult speculative…

1 version of the cover i made for my newest wip.
here are some of the tv shows/movies or docu/tainment i've been watching that's helping me stay inspired or has a (slightly) similar concept:
Alien Worlds
Hope Frozen: A Quest To Live Twice (because of the concept of passing on consciousness, not necessarily cryogenics)
Our Father (more because of the idea of being a commodity not assault on this scale)
Gods of the Deep - listen this is not a great Cthulhu movie, but i think they may have used some practical effects as well as cgi so that earns it some points
Martyrs (2008) - this will absolutely ruin your appetite/day if you've never heard anything about it & i haven't decided on the gore level for this wip so just trust me when i say it shows a cult and the extremes people will inflict on others while searching for the "truth". i don't think this really deserves its "most disturbing horror movie"....hype i guess but its still uncomfortable to watch.
Keep Sweet Pray and Obey - a docuseries about the LDS church
books - my reading has been for fun instead of finding books that are more like my story. mostly so i don't unintentionally start writing like the authors, but still have themes of growing comfortable with or creating identity & queer religious horror. some of these are also dark romance or high fantasy with...optional plot.......
Tumblr media
Our Satyr Prince by Dylan Drakes
The Prince's Dearest Guards by Beau Van Dalen
Calyx & In The Garden of Echo by H.S Wolfe - i read TGoE because i've been too afraid since i read peaceful in the dark & kept seeing it in my recommendations lol so i read Calyx to see if i was just being a baby and no. no i was right lol
on my tbr:
Exodus 20:3 by Freydis Moon
The Fall That Saved US by Tamara Jerée
Reforged by Seth Haddon & i'd preorder the sequel if i could
i need more books to be on Itch.io, googlebooks or any other site that accepts paypal instead of just amazon🙃
music is an old track arranged in the desktop version of music maker jam
gaming ambience/pomodoro playlist

nobody asked, so im answering and nobody can stop me!
1. How many books did you read this year? 33 books. I wanted to finish another one before the end of the year, but I doubt I will.
3. What were your top five books of the year? I read some really fun ones! It's hard to chose just 5 TT_TT
I'm going to say...
1- Total Creative Control — Sally Malcolm, Joanna Chambers (The dry humor is tailor made for me, specifically)
2- Uniquely Us — A.M. Arthur (Dell Greenwood is an angel)
3- Every Word You Never Said — Jordon Greene (This is the third in a series and I haven't read the first 2 lol)
4- They Hate Each Other — Amanda Woody (enemies to lovers helloooo)
5- Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams — Matthew Walker (I learned so much from it and it's so interesting! It changed how I view sleep completely)
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year? Yes! Jordon Greene and Beau Van Dalen
5. What genre did you read the most of? Contemporary Romance
9. Did you get into any new genres? Not exactly, but I continued to prove to myself that I love nonfiction but can only consume it in audiobooks. (Whereas I generally can't consume fiction in audiobook so that works out okay)
10. What was your favorite new release of the year? "They Hate Each Other" by Amanda Woody. So good!!
11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read? "The Charm Offensive" by Alison Cochrun
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were? Not exactly, but I didn't expect to love "Every Word You Never Said" by Jordon Greene as much as I did.
22. What’s the longest book you read? According to storygraph, that'd be "The Myth of Normal" by Gabor Maté. Which has 562 pages. Funnily, I listened to that one, not literally read
25. What reading goals do you have for next year? If I can read another 30 books next year I'll be happy

Hiraeth by Beau Van Dalen
Tumblr media
Lir was human, until he drowned.
Destined to take back the freedom of a merfolk clan called the Halloran, reborn in the depths of the ocean as a half-man, half-Halloran entity, Lir is meant to be a savior. Yet, Lir only wants to be human again, because his people are at war with what he has become.
When the Halloran Queen learns of Lir’s existence, she tracks him down and a race against time begins. If she catches Lir, he will become a slave used against his own kind.
As Lir sets out to find a remedy for his newfound powers, Lir’s mentor, Tobias—the man Lir secretly loves—is determined to aid Lir despite the risks. He could get arrested. They could both die. Lir is thankful for Tobias’s presence, but as the days go on, magic whispers to him that there is no cure. He will never be human again. And to stay alive, Lir must devour what is the most precious to him—Tobias's heart.

I finished Book 1 of Android Affection by @beauvandalen and I will say I am invested in this story.
Tumblr media
There are certainly many things going on in the periphreal that intrigue me:
• How Exia's resistance force opperates
• What Ian is like as Rogue Zero / What people think about Rogue Zero
• What Ian is capable of in terms of Robotics
• What Gilbert has experienced before meeting Ian and how that affected his views on being an Android
But at the core of this book is the relationship between Ian and Gilbert and how they play off one another. I love their interchanges and I find my self smiling whenever they get the opportunity to talk. There is a real chemistry between them that is well written and fun when it isn't heartbreaking.
(Someone please repair Gilbert's sense of self worth!)
