I will never, NEVER understand people who complain about Ao3 search system and how the archive isn't algorithm based. Ao3 is literally the only site that has a decent search system, at this point.
Anytime I need to Google something, I feel like I'm about to lose my mind. I wanted to research the reason why women in my country are more likely to get custody of their children, because all the studies I know about focus on the US and needed to compare them to make an argument, and the best I got were domestic violence stats, an article about a woman committing suicide, and stats about parents with shared custody.
And let's not talk about YouTube! My home page doesn't show any of the youtubers I follow unless I left a video unfinished (but, then again, it'll keep showing me unfinished videos even from people I'm not subscribed to), and the search system is completely fucked. When I write, I like to listen to those lyrics-less playlists titled stuff like "you're the last person after the end of the world," and now searching for them is a pain in the ass.
It doesn't matter how specific I try to get with them to get the results I want, YouTube will always show me a bunch of random playlists that have nothing to do with the keywords I used, will bring up several shorts even if I make sure to opt out of them anytime they pop up in my home feed, and ultimately loop me around to the content I usually consume.
"You typed 'Y2K nostalgiacore with birds'? How about 'Liminal spaces in a Walmart'? No? Okay, let's try 'Life after the nuclear holocaust." No again? Then fuck you, here's a full album of a band now popular on TikTok, twelve shorts that might be related to what you're looking for, and Danny Gonzalez videos. Fuck you."
And people just seem to be okay with this shit! Claim that it's easier! How the fuck is it easier, when you have to type and retype the same shit over and over again in the hope that that one word you decide to add or remove will suddenly change where the site brings you??

So, I'm writing an essay on the whole STATE of misogyny in WC for one of my university classes, and I was wondering if I could ask you a couple of things! No pressure of course, please feel free to say no!
A) Could I reference your good takes with appropriate harvard referencing and links back to your blog?
B) Are there any specific moments from the books that you think should be covered the most?
C) The end result will be a visual essay, so it's like those fun infographics people on Tumblr make on like ADHD and stuff, so when it's done, would you like to be tagged to read it?
(Sorry for anon, I'm nervous lmao, but if you'd be more comfortable I'll resend this off anon)
AAY good topic! You've got a lot to work with. Absolutely feel free to reference anything I've written, and tag me when you're done.
While you're here and about to write something so legitimate, I'm also going to recommend you check out Sunnyfall's video on gender in Warrior Cats. She breaks down the arcs into numbers, directly comparing the amount of lines mollies have to toms, and examining the archetypes women are usually allowed to be.
I think it's a must-have citation in a paper about WC misogyny.
...and, I think it's insightful to look at the WCRP Forum thread about the video. Note how the respondents immediately come into the thread to complain about how the video is too long so they didn't watch it, dismissing Sunnyfall as not being entertaining enough to hold their attention, even whining that she starts with statistics to prove her point, which I'm convinced she did exactly because they would have cried that she "had no evidence" if she didn't.
I am not a scholar, so I don't know how to document or prove that the books have an impact on the audience outside of anecdotes. But I think if you do write a section about fandom, it would be worth mentioning the in-universe and metatextual apologia for Ashfur and its reflection in the real world discourse, the authorial killing of Ferncloud because of fan complains, and the utter defensiveness against the discussion of misogyny you see outside of Tumblr.
You may also want to check out Cheek by Jowl, a collection of 8 essays about sexism in xenofiction by Ursula K. Le Guin. There's a very unique manifestation of authorial bias in animal fiction, having a lot to do with how the author views "the natural world," and it's worth understanding even though Warrior Cats are so heavily anthropomorphized.
So... Warrior Cats Misogyny
I think discussing individual instances can be helpful, but I'd implore you to keep in mind what's REALLY bad about WC's misogyny is framing and the bigger picture.
Bumble's death is shocking and insulting, but it's not just that she died. It's that the POV Gray Wing sees her as a fat, useless bitch who took his mate so she deserves to be dragged back to a domestic abuser, and he's right because the writers love him so much. It's that Bumble's torture and killing only factors into how it's going to hurt a man's reputation.
It's how Clear Sky hitting, emotionally manipulating, or killing the following women,
Bright Stream (pressured into leaving her home and family)
Storm (controlled her movements and yelled at her in public)
Misty (killed for land, children stolen)
Bumble (beaten unconscious, blamed nonsensically on a fox)
Alder (child abuse, hit when she refused to attack her brother)
Falling Feather (scratched on the face, subjected to public abuse and humiliation)
Tall Shadow (thrown into murderous crowd, attacked on-sight in heaven)
Rainswept Flower ("blacked out" in anger and murdered in cold blood)
Moth Flight (scratched on the face for saying denying medical treatment is mean, taken hostage in retaliation against mother for the death of his own child, which he caused)
Willow Tail (eyes gouged out for "stirring up trouble")
Is seen as totally understandable, forgivable, or not even questioned at all, when killing Gray Wing in an act of rage would have been "one step too far" with the ridiculous Star Line.
"Kill me and live with the memory, and then let the stars know it would only matter if a single one of your murder victims was a man."
It's the way that fathers who physically abuse their kids out of their ego (Clear Sky, Sandgorse, Crowfeather) aren't treated anywhere near the same level of narrative disgust and revulsion the series has for "bad moms", even if they're displaying symptoms of a post-partum mood disorder (depression, anxiety, and rage), an umbrella of mental illnesses 20% of all new mothers experience but are heavily stigmatized with (Sparkpelt, Palebird, Lizardstripe).
It's Crookedstar's Promise giving him two evil maternal figures in a single book, while bending over backwards to make every man in a position of power still look likeable in spite of the fact they're enabling Rainflower's abuse. Leader Hailstar is soso sorry that he has to change Stormkit's name for some reason, in spite of leaders being unaccountable dictators the other 99% of the time, and Deputy Shellheart functionally does nothing to stop his own son from being abused or even do much parenting before or after the fact.
It's the way men's parental struggles are seen sympathetically, and they don't have to "pay for it" like their female counterparts (Crookedstar's PPD vs Sparkpelt's PPD, how Daisy and Cinders are held responsible for Smoky and Whisper being deadbeats, Yellowfang's endless guilt for killing her son vs Onestar's purpose in life to kill his own), even to the point where a father doesn't have to have raised their kids at all to have a magical innate emotional connection to them (Tree's father Root, Tom the Wifebeater, Tigerstar and Hawkfrost).
It's less speaking lines and agency for female characters, being reduced to accessories in the lives of their mates and babies, women getting less diversity in their personalities, with even major ex-POV characters eventually becoming "sweet mom" tropes.
You could zoom in on any one of these examples and have an amoeba try to argue with you that "Oh THIS makes sense because X" or "Ah well my headcanon perfectly explains this thing" or "MY mother/girlfriend was abusive/toxic/neglectful and I've decided that you are personally attacking ME by having issues with how a character was written or utilized," but the beleaguered point,
That I keep trying to hammer in, over and over, across books worth of posts,
Is that these are trends. More than just a couple one-off examples. It's the fabric that has been woven over years, showing a lack of interest in, or even active prejudice of, women on behalf of the writers.
LONG STANDING trends, which have only gotten worse as the series progressed. From Yellowfang being harshly punished with a born evil son who ruins her life in TPB and the mistreatment of Squirrelpaw that begins in TNP, all the way up to the 7 Fridgenings of DOTC and Sparkpelt's PPD being a major character motivator for her son Nightheart.
So, I would stress that in your paper, and structure it less as "the Sparkpelt slide" and "the Yellowfang slide," and more as "The paternal vs maternal abuse" slide, and "the violence against women" slide. They're really big issues, there's tons of examples for each individual thing.
Anyway to leave off on a funny, look at this scene in Darkest Hour that I find unreasonably hilarious,
Tumblr media
"Everyone who matters to me; my truest friend, my sensible and loyal warrior, the wisest deputy I've ever known, and 2 women." -Firestar, glorious idiot
He can't even think of a single trait for either of them what the hell does "formidable pair" mean lmaooo, when I finished a reread about a year ago this line killed me on impact.

Cleo de Nile in G3
Tumblr media
I’ve seen a few posts of some people complaining about how Cleo in g3 has nothing to her except being Frankie’s girlfriend and the problem is that most of the people who complain about this have admitted that they don’t even watch the show…
G3 Cleo is my favorite character and I’m gonna make this post to talk about her hobbies, her struggles, her responsibilities and everything she likes/cares about. If all you see her as is just being Frankie’s girlfriend, then that’s on you! Either watch the show or just stop complaining about something you don’t even watch or know anything about.
Cleo’s hobbies/what she like to do:
I’m gonna start with the basic and most known thing Cleo likes which is social media, how she wants to have more followers, be more popular and have all the attention. She vlogs, unboxes gifts, does grwm and dance videos. She follows and is obsessed with monster celebrities such as Pearl Ryuzaki and Autumn Patch.
Tumblr media
She also loves dancing and is in fact the head of the dance committee and even though she has that responsibility, she’s still in a lot of other clubs, including sports. She also takes extracurriculars.
Tumblr media
Cleo loves planning whether it’s party planning or making a list of what type of ''eye scream'' each monster in monster high would like to have in the school rally. Her excellent planning skills and leadership helps her be very persuasive and charismatic as she got Autumn Patch a really famous celebrity in the Monster world to perform at the Monster Ball.
Tumblr media
She loves acting and performing even though she thinks Nefera is better at it than her. She loves her scarabs and takes care of them as if they were her children. She loves and cares about monster high, she even protected it with one of her amulets. She loves jewellery, has a huge closet full of them and follows/is obsessed with Pearl Ryuzaki because she loves her jewellery designs. She admires humans and envies them because she loves the concept of being truly alive.
Tumblr media
Struggles:
First struggle I want to talk about is that she has a perfect older sister that always overshadows her. Nefera is great at everything and not to mention she’s also next in line to be Pharaoh. They have a one-sided rivalry that I love so much. Most of the time it seems that Nefera is unaware of how Cleo feels, but there was a scene when Nefera was hanging on a cliff where she said “why do you have to do things like that” to Cleo after Cleo stole Cleopatra’s necklace to get more attention and get the role of Cleopatra instead of Nefera. Cleo is slowly trying to accept and get used to the fact that Nefera is next in line to be queen, so she’s trying to find what she wants to be in the future and her own way in the world. She believes it’ll be fame.
Tumblr media
Her parents love her, but they obviously prefer and love Nefera more than her and it shows. When Cleo came to visit them the first thing they asked her was “is something wrong with Nefera?” and when she told them everything was fine, her parents continued to talk about how they miss Nefera and how they think she's the best, etc etc... They throw jewellery and bling at her thinking that will make her happy. When Cleo asked them for a request her mother immediately said, “didn't we just give you something? Yes, that bracelet!”.
Tumblr media
Lastly, I would love to talk about her song in “Look Over There”. In that series, there was a spark that came to life and whenever it hit someone, it makes them sing about how they exactly feel (Like how it made Heath, Toralei and Deuce talk about their parental issues). So in Cleo’s song she talked A LOT about her struggles, how she feels like no one takes her seriously, how she tries so hard yet no one sees or notices, how she feels like she will never be enough for herself or anyone, she cares about how others view/see her and that bothers her “Why do I always care about what they think?”, how she's scared people won't like her and won't stick around, she wants to always be on top and doesn’t want to let her guard down.
Tumblr media
Notice how NOTHING of what I said has ANYTHING to do with Frankie. If all you view Cleo as is Frankie’s girlfriend, then that’s on YOU! Also, Clankie is literally the most developed couple on the show and the couple where both characters are most developed, yet it’s the only one you complain about? Idk but it seems to me like you’re just mad Cleo likes Frankie instead of Deuce now. The only couple you complain about is the sapphic one.. if it bothers you so much stick to G1!
ALSO, how some of you are complaining about how she has a poster of Frankie in her Monster Fest doll… that’s literally only the second Clankie thing we got in dolls from Cleo (the first one was a picture in her ss1 locker). In fact, Frankie has WAY MORE Clankie crumbs on their dolls, (their ss1 locker has a picture of them and Cleo making bracelets together, their phone in their Amped Up doll, their ss3 doll has a laptop where they have a heart sticker with their and Cleo’s hands, their Welcome Committee doll’s poster, and now their Monster Fest doll has Cleo’s heart as a sticker in their bag and they are wearing the bracelet that they made with Cleo in their SS1 locker) yet I don’t see you complaining? Or question Frankie's importance? Not to mention the posters in Monster Fest are supposed to be of singers and musicians that’s why Clawdeen has the Hissfits poster, why Lagoona has a Catty Poster, and if you didn’t know Frankie is a singer and a musician, so of course Cleo will choose her partner as her poster, but Cleo isn’t a singer or a musician (she sings sometimes but very rarely and wouldn’t consider herself a singer or a musician), so why would Frankie have a poster of her? That wouldn’t make sense.
Season 2 SPOILER:
***
Frankie was supposed to have a poster of a new character named Phoenix that will show up in season 2, but they changed it probably because it’s too early to reveal her design now. So, they just changed it to a poster of Frankie and their friends.
***
In conclusion, I would love for Cleo to have more scenes and interact with new different characters because she’s my fav <3, but saying she’s only Frankie’s girlfriend now is factually incorrect.

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa (One Shot)
Tumblr media
Request
Can you do something absolutely adorable with " I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" where either Lena or Reader dresses up as Santa at Christmas night to hide presents under a tree and their child sees one kissing the other in a santa suit and comments on it the next morning at breakfast. Maybe the adults do more later. The child is asking if their parents are breaking up because somebody kissed Santa. Cue awkward Lena x R trying to either avoid or come up with an explanation to what the child saw.
A/N: Hello, my darlings! So, i guess Christmas time has officially started, and here it is to the last month of this year. Thank you for this great request, just in time for the holidays, I hope you enjoy it! Love y’all!
Lena Luthor x R//Word Count: 3,181 -------------------------------------------------------
"Why am I doing this, again?" You asked as the cold winter wind made your teeth rattle.
"Because you love our kids and you want to see them happy." Your wife answered with a hint of amusement in her voice.
"I'm starting t-to question that."
"No, you don't." Lena  chuckled.
"No, I don't." You sighed and smiled.
It was a little past midnight when you found yourself walking outside your home, trying not to slip and fall on your face. You felt your body shiver, your fingers were cold, and you couldn't feel your face even when you were engulfed in a Santa Claus costume. Red suit, velvet cape, red and white hat, black boots, and a thick white beard that covered half your face, and you carried a bag with the gifts you had prepared for your kids. Still, couldn't feel warm.
But you only had yourself to blame for that.
The winter holidays had started a couple of weeks back. You and Lena had made plans to be able to spend as much time as possible with your two little kids at home. You had been enjoying yourselves so far with your own little home rituals, coffee and pancakes for breakfast, finishing chores during the morning until it was time for lunch, playing with your kids outside after it, watching movies in the afternoon, and playing some more until It was time for bed.
You had also spent so much time decorating your house and setting your Christmas tree. Lena had bought an excessive amount of decorations since your kids were babies because she wanted to make the holidays super special for them always and, needless to say, your kids were always excited by all of it.
However, they were their mother's children and something started to occur during this particular Christmas This time around they had started to question the nature of Santa Claus himself and Lena, who had dedicated her life to science and truth, was pretty adamant about keeping the illusion for the sake of your children's dreams and hopes. That's when you came up with the brilliant idea of catching Santa.
The plan was simple, you would put a camera on the living room during Christmas Eve, go to sleep and, while your kids waited for their gifts to be dropped, you would have video proof of Santa working his night shift. Very simple indeed, but people had their doubts.
Your children complained first. Little (Y/D/N) was the first one to come up with questions. She was your eldest child and the most cautious, most like Lena, who wanted to observe as Santa visited your home. She wanted to stay awake the whole night, hiding in the shadows were she could watch the whole thing. Sweet (Y/S/N), your youngest, seconded his sister's ideas. He too wanted to stay awake and watch how Santa used his powers and, of course, what he had brought to him as he had been a really nice boy, only bothering her sister once in a while. Lena also had her doubts about your plan but she wasn't about to discuss them with you in front of her kids.
After putting your kids to bed, that's when the real conversation started. Lena was on interrogation mode the moment she closed your room's door behind her.
"So, what are you exactly planning?" She had asked with a raised brow.
"Okay, just hear me out." You had raised your hands at her. "I got an idea."
She had been skeptical at first but she warmed at the idea. You were going to put a camera on the living room looking right at where your chimney was placed. There was a window close to it, so you would use it to enter the house. With a costume and the help of her image inducer, you would pretend to be Santa and edit a video with you falling from the chimney, leaving the gifts, eating a cookie and leaving. Just like Santa would do. Easy peasy.
What you forgot to take in account was that you would have to sneak around your own home, in the middle of the night with a blizzard outside, just to reach a window.
But you didn't mind because, like your wife had said, you wanted to make your children happy.
"Remember, you need to stand by the chimney so the camera spots you." You heard Lena over your earbuds.
"Got it." You replied and followed your plan.
You walked slowly, rounding your house, trying not to trip on the snow. A few lights were on in the living room so you could see in and out of it, making it easier to sneak inside the house. When you reached the window closest to the chimney, you left the gift bag on the floor for a moment and took a deep breath. You raised your hands towards the window, searching for the lock and tried to pull it open. Once, twice, thrice, until it was clear it wasn't going to open. You couldn't figure out if this was due to your cold fingers or if the window had been closed shut without you noticing.
"Love?" You called your wife.
"Yes?"
"Did you close the window?"
"Close? No, I checked it twice before we went to bed. Try again."
So you did, but it didn't open.
"It's stuck." You sighed, feeling a bit tired already. "Love, I don't feel my fingers anymore so, do you think you can come and help me?"
"Oh, darling. Of course, on my way."
"Love you, thank you."
"I will have to go to the window in the dinning room, I don't want the camera spotting me too." Lena whispered as she opened the door to the hall, walking on her tip toes, trying not to wake up your kids.
"Okay, gotta walk a little more." You said as you grabbed the gift bag.
The dinning room window wasn't far from where you were, only a few meters away. When you got close you saw Lena's shadow behind the curtain and you smiled as she approached. She pulled the curtain aside just in time to see you walking straight towards her.
"Oh goodness, it's freezing." She said as she opened the window, letting the cold wind rush inside.
"I know." You say letting out the steam of your breath.
You raised the gift bag first, moving it slowly inside. Lena helped you with it and then did the same with you as you jumped inside. She grabbed your hands and felt how cold you actually were. Another minute outside and you would have been turned into an icicle. She kept her hands on yours, trying to give you some warmth.
"Thanks." You shivered. "Are they still upstairs?"
"Yeah, sleeping like rocks". She smiled and moved her hands to rub your arms.
"Good, I just need a minute."
"You're going to need more than a minute, darling." She smirked. "But if you hurry, we can do something to warm you up in less than that."
You stopped for a moment, processing her words. She didn't need to say more. "Gotta work."
You pulled her towards you, giving her a quick kiss on the lips, smiling and pulling away to take the gift bag again. As you turned around with a smile on your face you headed towards the chimney, ready to complete your task. You could heard your wife chuckling as you marched on, activating the image inducer and transforming yourself fully into good old Santa.
You walked into the living room, placed yourself near the chimney and, like an action stunt, you rolled on the floor near it. With a little jump, to give it an extra effect once the video was edited, you stood on your feet and approached the Christmas tree. No present had been damaged in the process and you proceeded to pull and place each one of them underneath the tree. In less than a minute you were done and, with a satisfied smile, you went to take a cookie from the plate your kids had set on the coffee table, with a handwritten note that indicated such delicacies were destined for, and only for, Santa. You laughed the traditional ho, ho, ho's, ate the cookie and finally turned around.
"How did I do it?" You asked once you were back into your wife's arms.
"That was pretty impressive." She said smiling.
"Now that the deed is done, I remember you saying something about warming up in this cold winter night."
"I did." Lena nodded and leaned to give you a long sweet kiss on the lips. It was enough to feel the heat blooming under your skin.
A moment later, while you moved through the house trying not to make any noise, you reached your bedroom, closing the door behind you. Your wife helped you get off the Santa costume between kisses and before you went to bed you asked her if the video would be ready for the next day. She assured you Hope, her AI, would get it ready in no time.
Needless to say, with that settled, you had a great Christmas Eve. Then Christmas morning came in the blink of an eye.
It was the screaming and jumping that woke you up first.
(Y/S/N) had entered your room, jumping into your bed as you laid still in your wife's arms.
"Santa was here! Santa was here!" He chanted as you felt his little body fall on yours with the force of a hammer.
"Easy, buddy, easy." You said with a groggy voice as you tried to seat. "What are you doing so early?"
"Santa brought us gifts!"
"Yes, he did, my darling. " Lena caught him in her arms, she dragged him between you two and started to tickle him for a second, causing him to burst out laughing.
"Where did you left your sister?" You placed a kiss on his head once he calmed down. "Hope she isn't opening her presents without us."
"She's in her room." He answered.
"Still sleeping?" You looked at Lena with a raised brow.
"What if you go and wake up your sister, then you can see what surprises Santa left for you." Your wife prompted your son.
"Yeah!" He beamed and, after turning to hug you both, he went to wake up her sister.
You kissed your wife good morning, not really wanting to get up. You were still dwelling on the night you had with her, a very wonderful, magical and warm night that could only be compared to paradise. But duty called.
After leaving your bed, you and Lena headed to the kitchen. As you poured some coffee for the two of you, Lena checked on Hope, her little device placed on the kitchen counter, to see if the video was finished. It didn't disappoint. While you watched a few seconds of the video, you could almost swear that wasn't you but the actual Santa coming down the chimney with his bag of gifts.
"What do you think?" Lena asked as she held the tablet with the video playing.
"I think we caught Santa." You stood behind her, leaning with your chin on her shoulder. You smiled then and kissed her cheek, hoping it was enough for your children too.
A moment later, you heard your son walking down the stairs with another set of steps right behind. You walked to the living room, waiting for them. Your son was still jumpy, while your daughter, that seemed unusually tired, was rubbing her eyes.
"Merry Christmas." You said as you waited for them.
"Merry Christmas!" Your son exclaimed launching himself towards you. You hugged him and kissed his little head again.
"Merry Christmas." Your daughter replied and stood awkwardly at the end of the stairs.
Your son then went to hug Lena and she lifted him in her arms.
"Are you ready to open your presents?" She asked your kids.
"And then we can watch Santa!" Your son but screamed at your wife in excitement.
"Oh, yes." You smiled. "Seems we caught something on camera, but first your presents. Let's see if you were a good boy this year."
"I was!"
"Of course you were, my darling." Lena kissed him one last time before putting him down and he ran towards the Christmas tree.
"What are you doing, sweetheart?" You said looking at your daughter, who approached you shyly. You took a step towards her, grabbing her head and placing too a little kiss at the top of it. "C'mon, let's see what Santa brought you."
You let her go to join her brother and looked at Lena with a questioning look in your eyes as you daughter sat silently near the Christmas tree, watching her brother grab his presents. Your wife seemed as confused as you but she didn't voice her suspicions, so you had no other choice but to join your kids in the living room, wanting to see their reactions to the gifts you and Lena had prepared for them. You hoped your daughter's expression would change after opening hers. Lena sat on the couch nearby and you sat with your children on the floor.
(Y/S/N) was the first one to open his presents. He teared the wrapping with his little hands and screamed once again after seeing his long waited green lightsaber. He had become a fan of sci-fi movies recently and wanted nothing more but to be one of those intergalactic warriors so, to prepare him for her cosmic duties, you and Lena had agreed that would be a good present. Thankfully, he loved it and started to play with it right away. Other gifts were temporally forgotten as he ran around the living room.
On the other hand, (Y/D/N) seemed a bit hesitant when she started to open her first gift. It was a big box and she started to tear the wrapping little by little, as if afraid she would break whatever was inside. Her eyes were bright and a wide smile appeared on her face when she realized what was inside, a pair of skates she had been asking since the summer. However, her smile didn't last long.
"Sweetie, what's wrong?" Lena finally asked, watching her daughter's expression change so suddenly. "Isn't this what you asked Santa for?"
"Don't you like them?" You asked too.
She nodded but said nothing, something that finally made your parent instincts kick into action.
"Hey, what's wrong?" You approached her and repeated the question as you caressed her cheek. "You know you can tell us anything."
Lena had already seated herself at the edge of the couch, waiting for her answer while your son, unaware of the tension you were feeling, played with his new toy on the other corner of the room.
She looked at you both, fear and uncertainty clear in her eyes. "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus."
You were startled for a moment. That was not an answer you had been prepared to hear and you found yourself confused.
"You saw your mommy kissing Santa Claus?" You raised your brows in surprise and turned to look at Lena, who had the same expression. "Like when? How?"
"Last night. I wanted to see Santa, so I came down the stairs when I heard the noises. He was there and he gave mom a kiss." Your daughter said and pointed at the exact spot where you and Lena had been.
You let out a long sigh after realizing what had happened. (Y/D/N), your precious and smart little girl, had sneaked the night before, surely standing in the stairs without you noticing as you played your part and, after that, she had seen you kiss her mother. She had returned to her room after witnessing such thing, that's why you didn't see her when you and Lena went back to your own bedroom.
"Are you breaking up?" Your daughter looked as if she was about to cry.
"What? No, no, no." You closed the distance between you and your daughter and wrapped your arms around her.
"Of course not, sweetie." Lena left the couch, seating next to you.
"Then why was mom kissing Santa?"
"Well, uh..." You looked at your wife, trying to come up with an answer but she returned the same look.
"Mommy kissed Santa?" Your son had stopped playing with his lightsaber and was very much aware now of what was happening.
"Well..." You started and you children stared at you expectantly. "Remember Santa has superpowers, right?"
Two little heads nodded at you and you looked at your wife for some help.
"Like superspeed, so he can deliver his gifts all over the world in one night, or when he comes down the chimney when he's really big?" She added as she gestured your son to join your little circle on the floor.
Again, two nods.
"Well, he has more superpowers and one of them is, uh, he may kiss you to make you forget...that you saw him." You said with a shrug and you looked at your wife who was amused at your answer.
There was a moment of silence in which your children seemed to ponder what you had just said. While your son looked a bit confused, your daughter frowned and looked at the floor, probably trying to make sense of that new little piece of information she had about Santa Claus.
"So, mom doesn't remember?" (Y/D/N) turned to look at your wife.
"I remember having a weird dream." Lena hummed. "But nothing about seeing Santa last night."
"Then, why Santa didn't kiss me too?" Your daughter inquired.
"Maybe because he didn't realize you were watching him, darling."
"And good thing he didn't. We don't want you kissing an old man." You added with a serious tone.
"Ewww." Your kids said in unison.
Lena and you laughed at that but, after it, your daughter looked like herself again, all signs of worry gone from her little face.
"Can we watch Santa's video?" Your son asked, reminding you of the video Hope had been editing all night.
You and Lena agreed. She went to take the tablet and you and your kids watched in wonder as the video played exactly as you had planned. Hope did a wonderful job at detailing your costume and at showing all the magical things Santa was supposed to do. You let your kids repeat the video as many times as they wanted, and with the crisis averted, you grabbed your wife's hand and kissed her knuckles.
"So, you don't remember kissing Santa, uh?" You said playfully and in a whisper.
"I don't." Lena smiled. "But I do remember having a wonderful Christmas Eve."
"As you should, and I'm going to make sure you too get a Christmas you will never forget." You said as you leaned to kiss her.
Having this moment with them was the best gift you could ever have.

Uh do you have any headcanons about Jeff and Liu's relationship (not as a loveship)? İn their past or after the accident. It could be both of them
I hope I didn't ask for anything difficult (╥﹏╥)
Hiiiii anon, okay so thank you so much first of all for asking.
I don't know do you mean my main AU or general headcanons, and that's totally my fault, so I'm just gonna use main AU if that's okay with you. If not and you want random headcanons, I apologize and I'll try again.
And don't worry at all, I'll be pleased to write!!
Also, people who ship Jeff and Liu, please stay the fuck away from me.
JEFF AND LIU'S RELATIONSHIP
Before that night
When Jeff and Liu were little, they were not only brothers, but also two really close friends. They would do everything together and support each other all the time. They were always there for each other while growing up.
When Liu was bullied as a child, Jeff helped him by beating up his bullies. Even then, it was obvious how much anger issued he had even as a child, but his parents didn't feel the need to do anything because they thought it was just a child's anger.
When they got a little older, Liu was always in Jeff's shadow among the students. Among the teachers, Jeff was always in the background.
Liu was constantly ridiculed by other students, and praised by teachers about what a good and polite kid he was. Jeff was a popular guy who got along well with other children, and the teachers hated him and constantly complained to his parents.
But they both had each other. They thought that they would overcome all the bad events they had experienced together and escape this life. They loved it, but it broke their hearts that their parents were a little too careless about some things. Especially when they didn't come to school shows because of work, Jeff was consoling his younger brother, who was sadder than he was, even though he was angry.
Jeff was constantly teasing with Liu, and Liu was telling him what a stupid person he was, but neither of them cared because they knew that neither of them was not serious.
The favorite of the family, of course, was Liu. Liu was always praised and Jeff was always scolded. Although Jeff didn't like it, Liu hated it even more. According to him, Jeff had his own achievements, and they should be appreciated.
They liked to play games together. They were organizing video game tournaments and betting. Even though Jeff was the one who taught Liu these things, Liu was a better gamer than him. Of course, this might also be due to things such as Jeff trying to kick the referee, who is an extra, while playing a football match.
Whenever Jeff hung out with his friends, he would never see Liu down because he was small and he would invite him to hang out with them. Liu was really grateful for this, but he began to refuse this offer after growing up, because Jeff's friends did not like him.
Jeff's only sensitive point was his younger brother Liu. People could insult him all they wanted, but when they said a word to Liu, they would find Jeff's fist in front of them.
They were both very dear to each other and they were the ones who understood each other the best.
The 5-year period from that night to their first meeting after
First of all, their relationship was completely broken off. Liu was dead, and Jeff was incredibly remorseful that he was the cause of this. That's why he visited his grave almost every week and told him about the developments in his life. If Liu were alive, he would have done exactly this.
But there was also something that Jeff didn't know. Liu wasn't dead. He was alive, he was breathing, and he hated Jeff. He wanted to kill Jeff and was determined to avenge his family.
For this reason, Liu followed Jeff for a while without showing himself in any way. He thought that he wanted to catch him at his most vulnerable moment, in fact, he did not realize that he missed his brother, no matter what mistakes he made.
When he saw that he was visiting his grave in a close to regular manner, he felt that he was drowning in many mixed emotions. But the most outweighing of these feelings was longing. Liu was missing his brother.
Jeff, who never admits his mistakes even though he knows he's wrong, would do anything to see Liu face to face just one more time and apologize. Because that was the thing he regrets the most in his life.
After following Jeff for a while and seeing what a miserable life he had, Liu decided that things couldn't stay this way any longer. Jeff needed him as much as ever.
But Liu wasn't sure what he would face. He didn't know how Jeff would treat him or how he would react to learning that he wasn't dead.
So he decided to take a hand in the situation. He started leaving notes and signs that could only belong to him. This had two purposes. If Jeff react them well, he would show himself after a while and they would become brothers again. If Jeff react it badly, he would have both taken revenge on him in a small way and he would return to his plan to kill Jeff.
And the result was a complete mess.
Jeff almost got even crazier. He thought that someone had found out secrets about Liu, and he was extremely aggressive towards everyone. Others were already tired of him and his behavior wasn't helping at all. He started attacking people more, experiencing mental breakdowns more often, and becoming thoroughly paranoid.
But when he visited Liu's grave, the situation was different. He started telling his memories of when Liu was alive and talking about how much he missed him. He was saying a copycat of him was for using him and how he would find this person and torture him to trying to do such a thing.
And he did as he told. Liu did not like birds since he was a a kid, and one day, while he was secretly watching Jeff at the grave, a bird came very close to him. When Liu was startled by this, he made a little noise, and Jeff instantly got on his guard and asked who was there.
Forced to show up eventually, Liu sarcastically apologized for his plan being foiled so early. Having seen Jeff for a while, he wasn't even half as surprised as he was. The only thing he wanted was to hug his brother, who he had to observe from a distance all this time.
Jeff, on the other hand, was in complete shock. At first he shouted that he was a hallucination and tried to harm him. However, due to the knife that slightly tangentially passed into Liu's hand, his hand bled slightly and he realized that the Liu he saw in front of him was real.
Jeff collapsed to the ground because his legs were refusing to carry him any further.
Thinking that he regretted doing this, Liu relented and slowly collapsed on the ground next to him. He hugged Jeff while crying and babbling apologies in a row. And after a while, he got this moment that he had been waiting for for years.
Years later, the two brothers had reunited. Liu's grave had enabled Jeff to make up for his mistakes for the second time. (Nina's part)
Currently
No matter how big mistakes have been made in the past, they have a relationship that can be considered good right now. Of course, it's not a normal relationship, but it's the healthiest human relationship Jeff has in his new life.
They're not staying together. Jeff stays in a cabin in the forest with proxies and a few staff members because he needs to stay under the control of Slenderman, and Liu has enough money to rent his own house since he writes anonymously as a job and is also successful in his job.
But they see each other often. Although they are usually supposed to meet in the forest because of Jeff's appearance, sometimes they go to the city or Liu's house together while Jeff is wearing a mask.
Liu didn't introduce him to anyone both because he dedicated her life to finding Jeff so he doesn't have anyone he's that close to, and even if he did, it would be too risky. Jeff, on the other hand, introduced Liu to everyone he knew. Of the proxies, the person Liu gets along with the best is Hoodie, and the person he gets along with the best in general is 'Eyeless' Jack.
They really have fun when they're together, and Jeff even manages to make someone as serious as Liu laugh. They care about each other and they will not allow any resentment to come between them again.
Jeff and Sully, on the other hand, don't get along very well. Although Sully still wants to kill Jeff, Jeff tries not to insult him because Liu and Sully have a good relationship now. While he's not very successful, at least he's trying.
At the moment, despite their past, it can be said that they have a fairly good sibling relationship.
Long ass post, sorry about that.
But I hope you enjoyed it!!

each ninja was a different kind of teacher (except Lloyd who basically went on a year long press tour) and it also explains why Rebooted and after they seem a bit more responsible than in season 1 and the pilot
Cole has my favorite teacher characterization because he's objectively an interesting person with cool hobbies but when he is responsible for a group of children he just becomes Dad Who Is Helping Out At The Summer Camp. we never see his classroom, but given his proficiency in the arts we can assume he's the English teacher
since he went to art schools, he's probably not used to kids who aren't actually interested in what's being taught. the louder kids seem to dislike him (ref: running gag of "Mr Cole is the worst"), but that doesn't mean he's necessarily a bad teacher- just not one to humor pranks
also his and Kai's teacher outfits belong in the 1970s. I like the touch of making their ties the same color as their gis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
little bit of meta: most of the people who worked on this show went to school in the 80s/90s so to them "older/boring" teacher outfits would look like this. also, as someone who was in the intended age range and saw it at the time of release, this sort of clothing conveyed that the ninja were doing a stuffy adult job- juxtaposed with their colorful gis
Kai appears to be the history teacher? his teaching style is likely structured and straightforward. given his nontraditional childhood, his frustration with the kids likely comes from both his jealousy that they aren't aware of how valuable schooling is and that Nya was much easier to work with when she was their age. at the end of the day he's an older brother who's now in charge of a bunch of kids
he's using an old-fashioned projector with film, which I assume (1) shows how low-budget they are, (2) emphasizes that Kai is out of his element (pun not intended), and (3) juxtaposes them with New Ninjago City
Zane is the one who doesn't know what a vape pen looks like but will listen to you infodump for an hour after class, then drive/walk you home because you missed the bus. he probably doesn't get any of the classroom humor or notice if the kids make fun of him. I can't imagine him ever getting angry at the kids, and he probably is very good at keeping them to a routine and a schedule
Tumblr media
in rebooted episode 1 he seems to be teaching science? and the use of catapults is actually quite endearing- he's probably explaining tension and going to get his kids to make little models, which shows that he both is a pretty good teacher and hasn't realized that giving elementary/middle/primary schoolers their own catapults will only lead to chaos
he and Jay have personality-based outfits, with the snowflakes being an obvious allusion to Zane's element and the zig zags on Jay's emulating lightning
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the little bowtie on Zane reminds me of Bill Nye the Science Guy (program with a a host of the same name who taught kids about science in a fun and accessibly way- very nostalgic for kids who went to american public school)
Jay is the exhausted teacher who's more interested in his hobbies than class material, and if you get him talking about that hobby, he won't stop until the bell. as a jokester, I think he'd get along well with the kids and definitely encourage them to annoy the other ninja
we don't see his classroom, but given Jay's skills he's probably the math teacher. he'd have a difficult time explaining things in different ways- very gifted people who learn well on their own often find it hard to teach things to others, though he would make sure he doesn't leave anyone behind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nya definitely teaches math classes, but she probably handles tutoring as well since she's well-balanced in most subjects. it would also give her an intelligence network- kids come to her room after class/during lunch to complain and gossip. she uses it in the noble pursuit to antagonize the others
i'm used this video and the ninjago wikia because I'm on mobile and finding other sources would've taken too long
extra group photo I found! love the detail that Zane blinked (Dr Julien probably took the photo)

Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles | Brighton UK (Crossroads 6), March 12, 2023
Tumblr media
(sicparvis87)
Jensen just yelled „are you not entertained?“ and then said „you don’t even know what that’s from, do you?“ to Danneel. „I failed as a husband.“ Danneel „remembers *Russel Crowe*“ (but not the line). (x)
Danneel complained because Jensen had them change the chairs to higher and less comfortable. Now Jensen is trying to direct us for a hbd video and complained we‘re as hard to direct as Jared. (x)
Danneel doesn’t yell at Jensen when he does something wrong in the house, just wordlessly shows him. Jensen demonstrated that. (I.E. dishes in sink and not the dishwasher) (x)
“i put my pots in the sink and danneel says why don’t you put them in the dishwasher and i say they find their way and she says HOW DO YOU THINK THEY FIND THEIR WAY JENSEN?!”  (x)
Fan congratulates them on The Winchesters! Cheers in the room  (x)
Winchesters set. How to set the tone. Jensen started by giving a talk on day 1 to Drake and Meg. Same talk Kripke gave J2 while filming Wendigo. Show begins and ends with their relationship on and off camera. (x)
Jensen sat down and had a talk with meg and drake similar to what kripke gave him and jared during the filming of wendigo about how the show starts and ends with their relationship on and off camera  (x)
Jensen is telling the story about how Kripke sat him and Jared down at the beginning of the show and told them that they had a responsibility as the leads. “We had the most fun on this set doing what we love to do”.  (x)
Jensen says Drake was really eager for directions as to how to be the best that he could be. Meg is a natural-born leader and just went “oh, I get it”. (x)
JENSEN JUS DID THE HIGHEST PITCH VOICE FOR MEG GIGGLES ‘I GOT IT!’ BABYYYY PLS  (x)
“yes we took the kids in baby no i have not driven baby i haven’t even asked” - danneel  (x)
They took the kids out in Baby but Danneel has never driven it. Danneel talks a little more and corrects her pronouns to „she“ when talking about the car. (x)
Danneel hasn’t driven Baby yet, but not because Jensen won’t allow it, just because she hasn’t thought about driving it! Also said it smells “like a boat”  (x)
danneel said baby doesn’t start the same as she does on the show and jensen GLARES and everyone goes WHAT and she says oh no she sounds the same she’s just slower  (x)
jensen ended up complaining that the show used a different cars sound than the impalas bc people used to come over expecting his baby to sound like ‘BRUMMMMMMMMM’ and instead it was more ‘PTH bfbfbfbf’ and he said it was embarrassing    (x)
They used to use a fake sound for how Baby would start, and Jensen actually begged them to change it to something more similar to how it actually sounds.  (x)
Danneel’s mom was calling Jensen’s phone and he actually considered answering it until Danneel gave him THE “no”  (x)
Danneel hasn’t driven baby yet and says it smells like a boat  Danneel says it doesn’t start like it does on the show.  Jensen has just confirmed that it is in fact a boat engine lol .  (x)
baby 1 is jensens, baby 3 is jareds, baby 2? stunt car. insanely damaged little gal with all these stunt items on it  (x)  jensen refuses to remove any scratch or dint from baby or let anyone grease or oil the hinges of the doors !!!! (x)
They had to remove the radio in Baby while they were on SPN because (quoting Jensen) “Jared and I are CHILDREN”  (x)
jensens talking about the truck he drives in big sky and how it’s a complete pile of shit and that he couldn’t get the door open and had to use a screw driver in some of the takes to open it  (x)
jensen keeps apologising for long answers bc there’s so many people waiting  (x)
Some RadioCo cheers for the third album!!  (x)
the fan said jensen is a musician and danneel nodded encouragingly (x)
Jensen still stands by the statements that he is “not a musician” and he “has three album to prove it”, and he’s “not an actor, and has fifteen seasons to prove”. Danneel just thinks he’s both.  (x)
Relationship with music. Reference to Jensen‘s former answer of „I am not a musician“. How about now? He stands by his comment. Not a musician. He has three albums to prove it. Much like he‘s not an actor. He has 15 seasons to prove it. (x)
Jensen would rather be pretty good at everything than really good at just one thing.  (x)
jensens talking about how as a teen he never was super amazing at one thing but he was good at everything in the sense of he was never a star athlete but he could play all the sports and it’s something he’s grateful to be able to dip into different talents and arts  (x)
“give everything a try.” advice they give to their kids    (x)
They’re trying to teach their kids that they can try anything they want, as long as they possibly can.  (x)
Danneel wants Jensen to do another play!  (x)
“she was like, jensen you’re gonna do it you’re gonna get it and i was like how do you know? and she said because i know you”  (x)
Danneel talked Jensen off the ledge when he was rehearsing for his play years ago. “I was gonna walk, and she just said ‘Jensen, you’re gonna get it’ and Jensen asked ‘how do you know that?’, Danneel said ‘because I know YOU’.” (x)
Tumblr media
(chaotic_dean)
jensens talking about his song writing process and how he builds it up through cords and vowels and then words from that and then tell a story through that. so music, melody then lyrics to that  (x)
Danneel is so supportive of Jensen - it is really shining through  (x)
Jensen about Adam staying in the cage for 10 years: HEY I DIDNT WRITE IT!  (x)  Jensen praising Jake Abel as an actor, but also as a very genuinely good person. (x)
“As Dean, I would’ve taken Adam under my wing and done my best to connect with him, despite about our father.” (x)
jensen said that dean would've taken adam under his wing and looked after him and that he would've loved to have had adam brought back sooner so they could've flushed out that dynamic more (x)
They have to be very careful about going through the proper channel to get spin-offs developed.  (x)
They’re actually talking about giving contacts to people wanting to pitch things. It’s a lot to go through from a legal standpoint but it’s doable. (x)
jensen said they have to be careful legally on how to take fan submissions for shows and how even getting the winchesters took a lot for them. they said the gersh agency is who they’re rep by and that that’s the best way to start” (x)
Jensen and Danneel have to be super careful when listening to pitches legally. Even when they started pitching The Winchesters, they were told to go through the proper channels. They have a special person to do pitches now.(x)  Danneel says Supernatural is one of the best fandoms“ and Jensen corrects her that it‘s “THE best fandom”. (x)
jensen says he would do his audition as if it was the last performance of his life. he said if u sit waiting on the callback it’s the worst thing you can do (x)  “it’s like if you’re a painter, the more you do, the better you get. build that confidence, build a thick skin, but not too thick that it blocks the world. just the negativity, bring in positivism always!” (x)
What would they tell their younger selves when they started acting? Jensen got the advice that acting is a game in numbers. The more you do it, the better you get. The more you try, the more chances. Every audition was his final performance. Don’t wait for callbacks (x)  Same goes for writers and artists. The more you try, the better you get. Build a thick skin, embrace positivity. (x)
“Get a thick skin from negativity, embrace positivity ” (x)
jensen said there’s always a story he wishes he tells at conventions and forgets till after the con now he’s on the spot he can’t remember  (x)
Funny story in their back pocket but nobody asked it yet? Jensen has those, but currently forgot them all. He had one yesterday but Danneel forgot it too. „We have three kids.“ (x)
french mistake when we got pitched that episode i remember saying as long as i don’t have to play anyone other than dean winchester you can put me anywhere or call me anything you want, i’m still playing dean because i know where he is and he’s in me  (x)
“jared played a lot of variations of sam but i was just dean for most of the series until michael dean or demon dean because i was like NOPE don’t take dean away from me and i’m still like this” (x)
HBO SPN question! Danneel: “Dean would have been able to swear a lot more!” Jensen thinks it would have been actually pretty similar to the Boys. “Watch the Boys, and then put that into SPN, and you’ll have HBO SPN” (x)  At the heart of it, it would’ve been the same show.”(x)
Jensen recalling his scene in Lazarus rising - “it was HOT in that box!” It was like being in a sauna underground. And he had to do it twice. (x)
Lazarus Rising. It was summer and it was about 50°C in that box under the earth and Jensen was in it, could barely hear the crew. But thankfully he could hear Kim‘s significant voice through the dirt and neoprene. (x)  The hole was cut in the neoprene but dirt on top of it. Jensen didn’t have to do a lot of acting because he was so happy to get out of that hole. Then Kim said „let‘s go again“ and Jensen yelled „fuck you, Kim“. (x)  Danneel says that story just gave her so much anxiety and she could never do that. In the scene before, Jensen was in a coffin and they put crumbled oreos instead of dirt. Jensen turned his head and had Oreos in his ears for a week. (x)
“there’s not a lot of directors i’d do that for but i’d pay every dollar to do that for him again”  (x)
When talking about Samuel Winchester, Robbie wanted „someone like Tom Welling“ and at some point Robbie asked if Jensen couldn’t just call him. So he did and Tom agreed before Jensen was even done with his pitch. (x)
They actually started refering to Tom as a ‘placeholder’, same build, same age, etc. and then Robbie asked Jensen if Jensen and Tom were keeping in touch, and Jensen was like “yeah! … *realizing* OH”. He then actually called him to ask if he was interested.  (x)
He‘s happy that he and Danneel are now in a place where they can call and ask close friends they trust to come in for jobs. Jensen hopes he‘s also one of those people that others trust and call to be on something. (x)
jensen said it before and stands by wishing we got longer time in purgatory says how benny is one of his favourite characters and there’s a reason in atomic monsters he brought benny back and it wasn’t written in the script he just wanted to give a homage to that storyline (x)
When Danneel was first up as Anael, Jensen flew home to be Mr Mom while she worked in Vancouver. A storyline Jensen wanted more of is Purgatory. Benny is one of his fave characters. He called Ty for Atomic Monsters, wasn’t scripted. (x)  Second to that is Michael. Danneel: „Because you liked the outfit.“ He did.(x)
How much input do they have into the Winchesters and who’s idea was it to bring Dean back? They both chose Robbie has the writer because they love his writing. Similar story to getting Tom Welling on the show, “I would love to get Robbie! … Oh, I should call Robbie!” (x)
Whose idea was it to bring Dean back? When pitching The Winchesters, he wanted Robbie because he‘s one of his fave writers on SPN. The others all already have successful shows on TV. (x)  And then the Ackles told Robbie to „go nuts“. Robbie is a big Dean fan and „wanted to write Dean again“. He wrote the voice over, send it to Jensen. Jensen read it out loud and unconsciously changed words.Robbie took notes. Called it „going through the Dean machine.“ (x)  Jensen fake complains again about having to do the 6 page exposition in The Winchesters finale. But it was cathartic to him and fun for him & Robbie. (x)
Robbie was the one who write the Dean voice over and then Jensen would record and add stuff and then go “oh shit did I fucked that up?” And Robbie went “no, you just made it ‘more Dean’!”  (x)
Jensen referring to himself and Robbie as the “Deanarrator” (x)
jensen basically said that by episode one and two they both jus sat back and watched and got to see the show unfold thanks to robbie (though jensen loved to be needed to be like HERES WHAT DEAN WOULD DO when asked) (x)
“oh they’re gonna rewrite canon it’s gonna be a DISASTER! then i come in and i’m like lol it’s an alternate universe… SUCK IT!” (x)  “which i have to say that opens up a LOT of opportunities guys… a lot! in senses of multiverses… a lot of shows do it, why not us” (x)
Jensen has been trying to get Danneel to come to cons for a while but she always said „no, that’s your thing“ and he replied „it could be your thing too“. (x)
“thank you for being here see y’all real soon! and THANKYOU for making danneels experience amazing she wasn’t sure she thought it was my thing i said it could be her thing too. y’all are AMAZING!” (x)
‘Thank you for making Danneel’s experience amazing - I keep telling her this could be our thing!’ (x)
Jensen just thanked us all for making Danneel’s first experience on stage at a convention fantastic and memorable one and that they will definitely be coming back to the UK (x)

The Lock-up episode of children's show BTAS really said "you know these villains who are seemingly never redeemed or improving? Well they're actually being horribly mistreated and abused in the mental institution that's supposed to help them by the American Police/Prison System made into a completely unsympathetic character :)" and made a more effective point about the state of most mental health institutions and the police than most things today.
I love this episode because it shows without a doubt that batman cares about these peoples lives and WANTS them to improve. He doesn't even humor Lyles bullshit, he just beats his ass up whilst telling him he has no compassion (based batman).
Because no matter how shitty people like Scarecrow(who has no explicit sad backstory in btas)are, they are still just people and need to be treated as such if they are to improve. You cannot expect someone to get better by treating them like vermin with no hope of change. They are in a mental institution. They are supposed to be treated with care to have any chance of rehabilitation.
Not like Lyle Bolton wanted to help them or see them improve anyway. He just wanted to feel powerful by abusing helpless people he had control over. And that's why people don't like Lyle Bolton while they do other villains. He isn't a fun concept. He's real. He represents a real issue. People like Lyle Bolton are real. As I'm writing this very post my father is watching a YouTube video in the living room from one of them. Abusers in positions of power complaining about being "censored" by the liberal media and how "those types" of people aren't people and don't deserve to live.
The entire trial scene is so hard to watch because even though the patients of Arkham are clearly being abused and threatened in front of everyone, no one (except Bruce) seems to notice. If Bruce hadn't instigated the patients freak-out, they never would have said anything about the mistreatment they were receiving from the very place that was supposed to help them. They literally end up huddling together, shaking in fear as Lyle, barely being able to be restrained, screams at them about how they're scum that deserve to be beaten to death. There's a theory that Scarecrow not only escaped to get away from Lyle Bolton, but to get help for the other inmates as well. And if that was the intention, well, I'm glad he succeeded.
The only unrealistic part of the episode is the fact that Lyle actually got punished.

People in this fandom are so unserious, they are now bitching about the fact that e will spend the event with f instead of o, i wish i was joking :)
The shitstorm on young royals twitter today is so fkn embarrassing. They’re all acting like literal children. Wanting promo, getting promo, but complaining and whining because e and o shot a video separately (???), because the emojis e used for promotion were wrong (??????), because Netflix won’t pay for their plane tickets and accomodation during the YR event (?????????????????!!!!!????) (also going by this logic omar also should pay for our plane tickets abd accomodation because how dared he do his first show in Stockholm when the majority of his fans are from other countries? 💀)
Idk if it’s an age thing, but I would think a ~21yos have more critical thinking?
Y’all need jobs and to touch some grass

What a privilege it is to be able to eat sahur and iftar every single day because unlike Palestinians, we have more than enough of foods and drinks at our fingertips. Never in a moment did we ever experience what being starved to death feels like and yet some of us are still occasionally complaining how "boring" our meals are, that we feel unsatisfied with what's available on the table and desperately want to try out that newest restaurant, and that we hardly ever feel grateful for what we have. Palestinians are literally dying because as the direct result of forced starvation imposed by Israshit and here some of our dustbins are filled with wasted foods.
What a privilege it is to clean a classroom/house made dirty by healthy kids playing, because unlike Palestinians, we have no single clue what it feels like to see children being blown up into pieces after their house getting bombed by Israshit. We get frustrated hearing kids screaming and crying but those Palestinian mothers are wishing their kids were still alive so that they can hear their voices one more time. We yell at our kids for playing and making a mess 24/7 and those Palestinian mothers are weeping buckets of tears because they know their kids that have been killed can never go back and play together with them again.
What a privilege it is to do piles of laundry because we have a plethora of clean clothes to wear every day. Some Palestinians don't even have enough and proper clothes to protect them from winter and yet here, some of us feel unsatisfied and we wish we can buy some more clothes because of social media influence despite the fact that we have a wardrobe (or two or three) wardrobe filled with miscellaneous skirts, t-shirts, pants, dresses, veils and so forth. We never feel enough, we always want more and more and more.
What a privilege it is to be able to taste the sweetness of education. Our kids are able to school every single day and we can learn things on our own from the internet but what about Palestinians? Their schools and universities have been turned into dust by Israshit and they definitely can't pursue their formal education anymore. But you know what, irrespective of what all they've lost, they never give up. The other day I watched a video in which an old woman patiently teaching Gazan kids how to read in a fucking tent. If during the genocide Palestinians still have the spirit and determination to teach and study, then what excuse do we have to not keep trying to educate ourselves and other people about Palestinian cause?
What a privilege it is to have a cozy bed and sleep soundly in our safe home because unlike Palestinians, we don't have the fear of the freaking bombs being poured down from the sky and getting crushed by the rubble of our homes. We are safe, but Palestinians have to constantly live with the fear of being shot at, slaughtered, killed, bombed, kidnapped, tortured and any other atrocities you can think of. We are safe and we have all we need, but we haven't been able to be a good ally for Palestinians and be consistent in doing the things that need to be done for Palestinians.
Why? Why don't you try harder and harder to spread awareness? Why don't you want to ask more questions and learn more about Palestine? Why don't you want to be all in and support Palestinians in any shape or form? Why can't you spur yourself into doing more? You know you can be better than that but what's stopping you? Why can't you write things about Palestine regularly? Why are you afraid of speaking up? Why don't you put in the effort to try to reach and educate more people? You know in order to help Palestinians reach liberation we need to be united and do things collectively in a sustainable way, so tell me, why don't you try to braver and speak more and more and moreeee? Why can't you confront those people who remain silent and indifferent about a fucking genocide against your own people? Why after all this time you still get distracted easily? Why can't you be focused and give your all for this noble cause? Why? Why? Why?

The Orange Peel Test
This is the result of scrolling through tiktok and coming across a few "orange peel test" videos. Which then made me begin to wonder how some of the characters would react in these situations. Would they pass the test or fail miserably?
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Donald-
If you're with Donald it's because he chose to have you in his life. He has no room or time for anything that's not to be taken seriously, and he obviously does his homework on any venture that he invests himself into. Which, in this case, would result in already knowing the kind of person that you are and what you like and don't like. So much so, that you wouldn't have to request such small favors as peeling an orange from him. Most days, he would have a tray set on the tabletop with an already peeled orange, split nicely into slices, ready for you when you get home. It will be the same concept with him filling up items you are low on, such as your favorite granola or shampoo, to the point that you can't even remember the last time you actually bought more yourself. Now he probably won't ever leave you little notes in the way that his mom did to him as a child, because he would hold that memory too close to his soul to share or give out with anyone else, including you, but he would 100% leave encouraging and love filled notes to his own children if you both ever decide to have any.
Tumblr media
Jimmy-
Jimmy would give an immediate little sneer if you asked him to peel your orange. Which would be quickly followed up with him just snatching it out of your hand, and complaining a bit about having to do it, while still actually doing it for you. He would also eat half of it himself as he splits the orange apart slice by slice. His reasoning of course would be that he did the "hard" work, so why shouldn't he have some of the reward? The other half of the orange he would stuff into your mouth mindlessly and not too gently, in a very one slice for him- one slice for you, two slices for him- one for you, etc. Once the orange is all done, he will get up to grab another one, and repeat the process all over again. This will continue until you finally tell him that you're full and don't need any more orange slices.
Tumblr media
Wolf-
You can't force Wolf to do anything that he doesn't want to do.(Unless you're Donald haha). So really it's a 50/50 chance for it to go your way if you were to ask him. But luckily for you, the one thing about Wolf that is very much in your favor, is that when he's in one of his more giving moods he doesn't hold himself back from treating those close to him. Such as when he takes out his crew for a whole "order whatever you want" type of feast. So the chances of him peeling your orange is pretty high, even with his volatile nature. Just don't ask him in a cutesy voice or by giving him some sad puppy dog eyes. That shit will end up annoying the hell out of him, and you'll end up watching him as he walks away from you, with nothing to keep you company but that sad unpeeled orange you're still holding in your hand.
Tumblr media
Jake-
Now you know damn well that Jake would 100% peel that orange for you. Heck, he would even do it with a big smile on his face. He is one of the most openly family and friend oriented person within the Yeongdeungpo union. So he would not only peel an orange for you, but he would also be the kind of guy who would wake up early in the mornings to warm up the car for you. Just to make sure that the windows aren't frosted over and to have the inside of the car nice and toasty. Making it easier for you to just take off in the mornings to wherever you need to go. AND he would do this unprompted and solely because he wants to and because he's able to.
Tumblr media
Forrest-
Most people know Forrest as someone who's a complete asshole. Always trying to prove that he deserves the spot he inherited from Myles as Hyeongshin's school head. And truthfully he has the fist to back it up against most adversaries, so most people just try to stay out of his way. But you're one of the lucky few who has gotten to see a different side of him. Where he has been incredibly thoughtful to those close to him, and how he's even taken into consideration his subordinate's discomfort when making his moves within the Unions dealings. So it should come as no surprise to you that Forrest would have no issues with peeling you an orange. Chances are you wouldn't even need to verbally ask the question. All you would have to do is hold out an orange to him with a pleading look on your face. That alone will have him taking the orange from your outstretched hand, followed by him patiently peeling the rind away from it. Then handing it wordlessly back to you once it's peeled, and leaving to throw away all the discarded peels before you even have the chance to say thank you.
Tumblr media
Colton-
Now you all know Colton would be a complete and total simp for whoever he's in a relationship with. And he would be SO ready to peel any oranges for you. And not just oranges either. He'll peel you some bananas or some apples. This guy will even go as far as peeling/cracking your pistachios for you! And in my opinion that's even better than peeling an orange.

While on that subject, one of the stories about abuse that resonated the most with me (besides Tsukihime, which is also about a ton of other things) is the short manga titled May My Father Die Soon.
Part of this is that it avoids the "perfect victim" narrative I complained about the other night (although not to the same extent as some other characters I know).
Spoilers and discussions of child abuse (including a couple of personal things) below the cut.
Asuka is obviously the sympathetic party, but the abuse coming her way is not depicted as just random outbursts with no rhyme or reason like in some other stories. Abusers like that do exist, to be clear, but my experience was more with violence as a tool to coerce and attempt to shape behavior.
The abuser often has some kind of excuse for what they're doing. Something that helps them convince themselves that what they are doing is right and proper, maybe even necessary. It doesn't mean their behavior is good, but it means there's a logic to it that the victim comes to understand and navigate.
The first time we really witness what Asuka's home situation is like is when she neglects her chores to play video games with her sister.
Tumblr media
Hitting children for not doing the laundry is wrong, but it is something that a lot of abusive parents would find to be justified. They think they are teaching their children discipline and virtuous behavior when they do that. They think they are preventing their children from becoming spoiled and lazy.
Sometimes people are even abused after doing things that are legitimately wrong, but this does not justify the abuse. It's a type of nuance that is missing from depictions in which the abuser is just a gleeful sadist who just hates their victim and enjoys hurting them.
Tumblr media
A lot of these parents think they are doing the right thing and use violence as a means rather than an end. After stomping on his own daughter he refers to what he just did as "discipline" and acts as if it's just a burdensome duty he has to deal with rather than an act of violence he inflicted on an actual human being.
Tumblr media
He is also quick to pull out the "I give you food and shelter so be eternally grateful and always obey me" card.
Tumblr media
Which is, again, something I have heard expressed by multiple authoritarian parents both in my personal life and online. "I pay the bills so they must do everything I say" or "I am a good parent because I do the legal minimum to provide for them".
I also like how Asuka does not react to her abuse in a perfectly meek and submissive way like the "perfect victim" archetype usually does. She not only eventually contemplates patricide out of desperation but also shares her sister's anger even if she tries to put on a more "role model-like" front about it.
She hates how she's being treated, and she even lashes out against her sister and feels disgusted with herself afterwards. It's very different from the depictions where the victim only has "nice" and endearing symptoms like low self-esteem.
The scene in which she tries to get help from the law only for her to be dismissed (her father is a respected and influential person) and punished for it also carries a sort of despair that I'm very familiar with.
One of the times my mother came to sleep in my room because my father was being violent (I used to protect her from him) I naively suggested calling the police. She said it would only provoke him into potentially lethal escalation and that the police would not act unless he did something extreme, like killing or hospitalizing someone. Hearing that from an experienced lawyer would have been pretty chilling if I had not already been dissociating for years at that point, but the information and its implications sank in regardless of how I felt about it.
He was a rich business administrator and CEO considered a good and successful person in the adult world. He once even mockingly dared me to call the police on him, knowing nothing would come out of it.
The only reason I still bothered to fight back against him physically is because I did not care about myself enough not to at that time. Might as well inconvenience and hurt him if I'm fucked either way.
Tumblr media
Her father then proceeds to draft her into his company (hey that seems like a very specific and unusual thing but it also happened to me!) in a way that further highlights the way in which his behavior is actually in accord with authoritarian parenting norms.
His reasoning is that he's not going to just give her handouts. She needs to work for a living. This sounds reasonable to a lot of people, who worry about "spoiling" their children by being too generous in providing for them without demanding effort, but here we can see the ways in which it tightens the leash.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She can't decide on her own future and is impeded in independently financing her escape because her finances are going to be dependent on him and his approval.
This is something that a lot of people actually miss when thinking about the children of abusive but wealthy parents. You don't actually have free access to your parents' resources. You have purely conditional access that relies on pleasing them and conforming to their wishes. Meanwhile, they have an increased level of reach, resources, and respectability to prevent you from escaping.
Another heartbreaking bit is how the abuse has become so life-defining for her that she doesn't really know what she wants to do with herself. The one wish she can think of is just not being abused anymore.
Tumblr media
She is eventually forbidden from freely leaving the house entirely, and while sexually abusing her again he once again makes it explicit that he considers her property...
Tumblr media
And when the subject of Hotaru (Asuka's younger sister) comes up, he goes on a monologue that those of us who defied authoritarian parents may be familiar with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole "I have been too nice but it only made you spoiled (as proven by your defiance) so from now on I'm going to hurt and control you more" thing.
And he also drops this line.
Tumblr media
To an authoritarian parent, disobedience of any kind to any degree is a deadly sin that must be beaten out of children as if they were dogs in training. If you read conservative parenting "experts" like James Dobson you can even find them saying this kind of thing explicitly.
Tumblr media
I also like that Hotaru provides a different, also resonant exploration of how someone might react to abuse in addition to Asuka. Even after being hit to the point of bleeding by her father, she remains willful and tries to hold on to her own independence even if obedience would hurt less.
And, like Asuka, she's not a Perfect Victim either. She is the one who helps finish her own father off after all (after being given a lecture on rehabilitation no less). The conversation she has with her sister regarding worker ants also shows she is interested in her own autonomy and leisure to a degree that would be considered "spoiled" by a lot of people. She should aspire to be a hard worker who pleases others at the cost of her own happiness like her older sister was raised to do, right?
I especially like that she's wearing an "I love myself <3" T-shirt during the scene in which she rejects the efforts to beat her into submission as well as Asuka's recommendation to give in and obey. Kind of heavy-handed, but cute.
I also like the flashback that shows that there was once a time Asuka's parents were kind to her and she sincerely loved them.
Tumblr media
Children are in a situation where they are strongly predisposed towards loving their parents by default and need to be loved back. It often takes a lot to change that. Some people, like Hotaru, change pretty early on while others try to cling to this need for a lot longer.
This is complicated by the fact that the parents may start out "kind" until their children start disobeying them, at which point they turn increasingly violent and controlling.
Asuka eventually realizes that she will never be truly happy if her life revolves around being her father's property. That even if she was to hollow herself out into exactly the kind of obedient doll he wants her to be she will be miserable. With no options left to escape, she becomes suicidal.
This leads to a panel that is like... pretty much straight-up an exact conversation I have had before.
Tumblr media
"I provide. I have money that you benefit from. Your life is way better than that of poor people. You should be grateful and do everything I say." again.
Like paying the bills mean they own you and can do as they please.
It really feels like a good understanding of not just the victims involved but also of this type of abuser as well, and even now I get the impression that if I had failed to think of a plan for how to escape them my own situation could have also ended up with a murder, a suicide, or both even though I'm not a violent person at all. The desperation as all of your peaceful options are cut off is very real.
I'm really happy it did not come to that in my case, but I still did many things that a "perfect victim" would not be allowed to, like becoming manipulative and deceiving my parents for the sake of escaping. I don't feel guilty about it either, and eventually lost much of my sense of empathy (oddly, this happened after I had already gotten away).
So even though I did not actually kill my abuser I still relate to characters who end up doing that, because to me it feels like a bad ending I was this close to getting despite not really wanting that to happen.
Anyway, I feel really seen and understood by this story to a much greater degree than I do in more sanitized, black and white stories about abuse in which the victims never do anything remotely bad and the abusers are moral aberrations who just enjoy hurting people for fun.

I’m gonna go off because I’m emotional and upset, this is going to be a rant about a certain youtube channel, and I’m not going to name it, I’m just going to complain.
So it was few years back when I was starting to watch homesteading content on youtube, and I was mostly picking female-led channels, but this one channel was so well recommended, and they were friends with all other homesteaders, and I was interested in their content, so I started watching. I soon dubbed this channel ‘The Disaster Channel’ in my head, because for these people, everything that could possibly go wrong, was going wrong, and I’m not even joking.
One of the first things I’ve noticed was that these people were not exactly.. well informed on what they were doing. They grew lots of winter squash one year, and claimed that the hokkaido and butternut squash can be survived on, and can be used instead of sweet potatoes, and I mean by taste, fine, but by nutrition? Absolutely not, roots and tubers have plenty more nutrition, and squash is not enough to live on. So I figured, okay, they might struggle with nutrition if they’re unsure what vegetable has what minerals in it, but okay, that’s not the end of the world, right? They’re living healthily.
One of the other things I noticed is that unlike the most of the homesteading channel, it was the husband who directed the youtube videos, and that was a huge mistake. His wife had 5 children, was incredibly smart, gentle, insightful, sweet, strong and resourceful, and I loved watching every minute of her; watching him was frustrating to say the least.
Soon I would find out that when they moved to the countryside, the house they moved in had black mold in it, and they all got sick, the entire family, and had to move out. They were forced to rent a house in the neighborhood, while they take their own house apart and clean it from mold, while still all sick. This is about as disastrous as it can get, having the entire family sick, and homeless, in an attempt to live from the land, and it was awful for them. The landlord was so awful to them, they would sometimes be forced to evacuate the house for ‘someone to come over’, and they were all obliging and moving into a camp house for these periods of time. They seemed to be holding it together somehow, the husband was slowly working on the mold and fixing the house back up.
During the pandemic, there was a shortage of canning supplies, and the family had this one big canning pot, that the wife needed to use in order to can a bunch of goods she was processing and cooking all day. The husband noticed their pot had some kind of asymmetrical spot on the bottom, took it out to ‘fix’ it, grabbed a hammer and punched a hole thru the bottom. On her canning day! When she was already cutting and processing food all day! When there was no others to even be bought at the store! It was luck she had another one in the storage, or she’d have no way to can all that food, and the loss would be huge. I’ve never seen other homesteading people do this, or even if they did, they don’t publish it.
And then, the dude ignores a tick, gets a big rash, and gets out with the news that he got checked up and is now having lyme disease. I’m in disbelief, because it’s one disaster after another, and then lyme disease? How do you not keep extremely careful about ticks when you live in nature? And his wife with so many kids, this is one thing he should have watched out for! But no, he is now sick and fevered, can’t help his wife, can’t fix the house, has to have extended recovery because lyme disease is serious and can turn into a long-term disease and disability if not treated correctly.
So I’m not liking this guy, and I’m about to like him even less. The wife, whom I adore, gets pregnant, and she is saying that she can tell she’s pregnant with twins. I’m worried for her because, she doesn’t have a safe house to raise another two kids in, her husband is, like that, she already has 5 kids so that is taking all of her energy, and I’m just scared about who will be able to support her and help her take care of the kids. And then, something is wrong with the pregnancy. She is taken to the doctor, and is being told that one of the babies is dead. She’s devastated. She isn’t sure about the prognosis, but the news shook her so badly, she’s badly holding it together, and he, the husband, you know what he’s doing? He’s holding a mic up to her mouth, questioning her, forcing her to say to the audience exactly what happened and what the doctor said, and I’m just stunned and paralyzed. I don’t want a woman in deep distress to be forced to talk thru tears, just to relay information to me! I want her to take her space and tell me about it when she feels like it! I could tell she was reluctant to talk, she was in pain, she was scared and unsure of what was true, ashamed of her assumptions, insecure in what she was saying. It was so painful to watch, I closed the video. I couldn’t handle the breach of her privacy.
Later on, she decided that she isn’t happy with that prognosis, and she knows she still has two babies inside of her. She goes to get another opinion - and - she does have two live babies. She was right all along, and the doctor gave her a false information. She is relieved, but not for long, because one of the babies is struggling, and the pregnancy is turning high risk.
I am at this point so worried and emotional about the entire issue, I’m scared to even watch the videos. I just want to know if everything turns out okay, that she’s safe, that nothing else hurts her.
But, her husband has different ideas, listen to this and tell me if you believe it. So he’s filming a video where he goes into that mold-infected house and destroying the mold with a flamethrower, and he finds, what? A dead rat. He picks it up, with his hands. He goes out and gives it to his children to play. He. Gives a dead rat. To his children to play. And then his wife comes home, from the hospital, with her high risk pregnancy. And the children give the rat to her. She’s looking at him in shock, unsure what exactly is happening right now. She asks, timidly, isn’t this dangerous?
And he’s laughing. ‘No don’t worry, it’s all dry!’ he says. To his high-risk pregnant wife. He gives a dead rat, laughing. After they all got sick from that house. After they all had the mold. After he got lyme disease. After he got her into this life-threatening pregnancy. He gives her a dead rat and laughs.
At this point I am DONE with this dude!! I am done, I am angry, I’m beside myself, that is the most insane thing I’ve ever seen in my life, not to mention he filmed this and put it all up on the internet, instead of taking care of his pregnant wife he’s serving her rats, the most fucking dangerous animal that could give her numerous diseases, because he thinks it’s okay, because he doesn’t give a shit if he’s putting his entire family at risk, again, everything is funny to him. I wouldn’t let a drop of rain fall on her!! He’s giving her a dead rat.
And you’d think this would be the end of the story, and this is why I’m mad, but no, it gets worse, today I found out just how bad and I’m in pain from it, and that’s why I’m writing this down.
Some time later, he publishes a video where he admits that he is struggling with severe depression, that he’s struggling to get up in the morning, and is receiving treatment and psychiatric help. He said he was giving up on the fixing of the house and would just pursue his passion of making videos. Afterwards, there’s a few video of some adventures he’s organized, but I’m not watching because I’m just wondering how the wife is doing. I recognized by the titles of the videos that both of her babies got born just fine, and they’re all okay, and she was even talking about how it feels having seven children, and it was obvious that she was just completely exhausted.
And there weren’t any videos, for almost a year.
And then, a video made by her. I was intimidated to even check it, out of fear of what would I find there. But I wanted to know what was going on with her, so ultimately, I opened it up, and, she was looking distressed, to say the least. She explained that her husband, after the birth of the twins, got depressed, and completely checked out of their marriage, the childcare, the job, everything. He was not doing anything to support her, or to care for the kids, and they barely saw him around. She lost the house they were renting, and was moving from house to house, trying to find a place she could live.
She had to raise 7 children alone, without a partner, without any income, without anything. She finally had a friend offer to rent her a house for a year’s time, until she figured out how to make enough income to support herself and her kids, and she gratefully took it and is starting to put her life together. She also.. defended him, and praised him that he will sometimes take kids for a bit of time, and that helps her a lot. She asked everyone not to attack him. She explained she wouldn’t talk about his issues because it’s his private stuff and it was his story to tell. This is when I started sobbing, remembering how he forced her to talk about her pregnancy when she was in the middle of being devastated, how close to tears she had been when he was using her to make content. It was too startling to see the contrast on how much she respected him, his privacy, his emotions, his safety. She had been betrayed by him, lost everything because of him, had to raise seven children on her own, homeless, because of him, and she was defending his privacy, while she never got to have any in his story.
It’s just devastating. I don’t want any woman to be put thru this. This is even recorded and published online, every bit of this story, and it’s streamed for the world to see, and it’s sad and upsetting. I think she’ll find a way to make things work because she’s incredible, resourceful, and incredibly strong in the face of adversary, but she shouldn’t have to. There should have been systems put in place to help her, to protect her from this. And I didn’t have any respect for that *** from the second he handed the rat to his children, but now I’m absolutely disgusted. But this isn’t an isolated incident of a m*n bringing multiple people into danger, poverty, homelessness, devastation, exploitation, pain. And he got away with it too, protected by the very same people he hurt.
I don’t believe for a second that his situation was any worse than hers, but got to check out and make it all none of his business. She didn’t. She didn’t get to fall apart, or lose it, or check out; she had to care for her children. She didn’t get to have her emotions centered in the situation in any way except when they were being exposed for views, when she needed privacy the most. I’m heartbroken by what happened to her. Please don’t support m*n who break necessary kitchen tools and bring their families into homesteading life uninformed and untrained, and who don’t respect their wife’s privacy, safety, or even survival. F*ck that guy.

Fanfiction writing and posting culture has shifted so much over the last 20 years. Every time I read anything on r/fanfiction, not only do I lose brain cells, but I feel like a huge, huge part of fanfiction culture has moved toward reading only completed works and avoiding engagement at all cost, but particularly until a work is finished. There was a post yesterday by someone celebrating the fact that a fic they had on alert updated because it had "been so long" since the last update: it was a wait of one and a half months.
That isn't that long for a writer with a spouse and/or children and/or a busy career and/or someone busting ass at school and/or a life outside and off the internet.
While a lot of comments did chastise this person for their perceived idea of a long wait for an update, there were also a few comments from readers proclaiming that this was why they never read incomplete works.
Heck, there were one or two (upvoted!) comments about how writers should simply pre-write everything if they wanted feedback.
Don't get me started on the posts by people that read hundreds of fics a week and yet never comment. "Gosh, I wish I there were more fics for xyz." As if there's not something they can do about that by simply commenting on the works that do exist to show the authors the content they made has an audience!
As a fanfic writer specifically, I find this weird attitude toward the creative work of other people more than a bit discouraging (and sometimes deeply uncomfortable). Fanfiction, like fanart, is a social experience. I create a thing and then others engage with it to encourage me to do more of the thing. I am not a machine and I do not exist for your entertainment or pleasure, but the way fandom leans these days would lead you to believe authors and artists exist for the purpose of consumption.
I am a whole person and doing this costs me my time. For a long story, many many hours of time.
I don't think it's asking too much for people who took the time to read a story (and in particular those who enjoy it) to engage with it.
This doesn't even touch the weird "I only read completed fics" mindset and how it feels to see that sentiment echoed as an author.
"Just write it all in advance before posting it then." Do you even know how long it takes to write a story—to write a longform fic with a plot to completion?
Break Open the Sky was 102,000 words long (and this is short compared to a lot of longfics, so keep that in mind). Even if you assume a writing speed of 1,000 words an hour (generous, because some difficult passages will be much slower to write), that is a whopping 102 hours. That doesn't include the time I had to spend to go back and re-read to continue the story. That doesn't include outlining. That doesn't include note-taking. That doesn't including mapping out locations and distance for travel. That doesn't include editing or formatting to post, either, which took hours per chapter.
I have to sacrifice something else to be able to write. No video games, no movies, no books, no television, no nap, no goofing off online.
Comments become a big motivation, especially on a WIP. It doesn't feel like a waste of time then, to get a little less sleep or take a little less time for yourself; it gives the writer something to look forward to: interaction and socialization with fellow fans. And I don't think the cost is that high for a reader compared to the hundreds of hours it might have cost me to be able to show it to them in the first place.
But nope, r/fanfiction is really out there complaining that fics don't update (even though they didn't bother to comment) and that longfics aren't finished before they start being posted (even though they still don't comment as the story is being posted) and then complaining that there aren't enough fics for [ship]/[trope] even though they are really out there refusing to engage in fandom in a meaningful way that might encourage authors whose work they enjoy to continue to create.
TL;DR: creation costs time.

So, have you seen Mao Mao Heroes of pure heart??
So, there is this character called Adorabat, super chaotic. Imagine Mc/Yuu, by a potion mishaps, she gets turn into a child again and has the same attitude as Adorabat. Screaming n all.
RIP the whole NRC cuz nobody can with this absolute ball of destruction and adorableness. Except Mal-Mal, Lilia and probably Jamil.
Hello! I never watched Mao Mao, but after watching some videos to get the feel for Adorabat, I gotta say I really should watch it. Tired, Soft and Chaos Child, perfect combination
Have children, they said (NRC)
— ᕙ[・۝・]ᕗ
No one but Floyd is happy. This day will go down in NRC's history as "The Day Only Floyd Had a Blast"
Ace is the culprit, of course. Crewel chewed him after class, and Riddle chewed him twice as much at the dorm.
"How was I supposed to know that mixing that stuff together would do something?" It's POTIONS, Trappola, you dumbass
Child Prefect is adorable. Really, really cute.
What's not cute is her screeching that one can hear from the other side of the island. Some boys swear up and down that RSA will eventually knock on their doors to ask whatever they're killing so cruelly
The beastmen have it particularly bad, since about 95% of them has very sensitive ears
Leona is fucking DEAD. Cheka's screeching was already enough for his poor ears, but Reader's are on another level. Ruggie is not sure if he finds it funny or if he sympathizes
Riddle is another one who's dying, but because of a slight different cause. How can he educate a child when all his approaches are... Harsh? He doesn't want to be hated by Reader at any age, and he certainly doesn't want to treat her like his mom treated him.
Trey and Cater wince every new scream, but they're pretty good at taking care of her. Trey has experience with children, and Cater is just a fun person to be around. They tend to bicker because Cater wants to give her candies, but Trey worries about her teeth, to which Cater complains that there's just as much sugar in a tart than in a piece of candy, and they go from there
Jack does not think they should be giving any sugar to such a hyper child, but he'd rather she be holding candies than anything that could be used as a weapon. She has hit so many ankles already
Vil is keeping his distance after Reader threatened to pull on his hair. She's cute to look at from a distance, he says, and then leaves. Because of that, Epel is very willing to be near her, if only to get away from Vil, though he's appreciate if she stopped throwing his apple carvings on people's head.
Rook is actually having an ok time, since a hyper child means a child he needs to watch and run after. Very good prey, she loves playing hide-n-seek with him
Azul has practically locked himself in the office. He thinks she's cute, but his poor three hearts can't take two Floyds being loud and violence happy. He's very jealous of Jade, who appears to be having a grand time. It's probably the almost two decades with Floyd, this eel feels nothing.
Floyd is, as mentioned before, having the time of his life with a even more hyper tiny him to terrorize the world with him.
Jamil absolutely loves child Reader. Not because she's cute (tho he will agree that she is), but because she's giving Kalim some of his own medicine: does whatever she wants, whenever and however she wants, independent of whatever is happening around her, and expects him to follow her thought process. She manages to out-do Kalim in being a chatterbox and Kalim looks like Jamil on a good day: stressed, tired and done.
(Child Prefect is also pretty well mannered and behaved near Jamil, probably some remnant of her older self who knows this boy needs a break. Maybe that's why she wants Kalim to be the babysitter instead)
Sebek is SUFFERING. WHY IS THIS SMALL HUMAN SO LOUD?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE IS BEING LOUD, HAVE YOU NOT HEARD THE TINY HUMAN?! TINY HUMAN, CEASE YOUR YELLING AT ONCE!
Silver appreciates that she doesn't allow him to sleep... but also please let him sleep. Sometimes he does want to sleep. He gets surprisingly close to Leona in their quest to find a place she won't find them to nap
Lilia is also having the time of his life. It's Lilia, there's not much to say. He will give her a tiny sword and teach her how to use it. Say goodbye to your knees, NRC.
Malleus isn't sure about any of this, but then Reader sits on his lap and begs to nibble on his horns, and he is sold. Another one who gets a well mannered, behaved child. Other than the horn nibbling.
Ace and Grim are not allowed to come near her without Deuce and Jack with them. Deuce was given the explicit permission to punch Ace's face if he comes up with any stupid plan, so was Jack.
Idia is locked in his room. He can't take a hyper child. He can't take a hyper child that keeps knocking on his door and going "do you wanna build a snow maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan?". It's the middle of spring. There's no snow. Please stop.
Ortho is more than happy to stay with Reader. Noise? He can adjust his hearing. Too much energy? Hah! Same, quite literally. Wants to hit stuff? Well, Ignihyde has a training room full with breakable drones!
Crewel hates and loves her. He hates the loudness and the rowdiness, but he loves when she actually calms down and accompanies him. He likes cute pups, sue him
Trein is also one who gets a well mannered child, mostly because he's scary. But Lucius will let her pet him if she behaves, so that's also behind her good behavior
Vargas is basically Floyd 2.0. Someone get this child away from him. No, don't let Sam be alone with her instead! He isn't the problem, the problem is his friends from the other side who love to screech with her
Crowley is in Hell. She screams at him, hits his knees and bites his ankles if he gets too close. No one can tell why, but it might be yet another remnant of her older self. Everyone accepts that theory, except Crowley, who doesn't understand how she doesn't like his generous self.
After a week, the Ramshackle Housewarden is back to her actual age, and 90% of the NRC is crying of relief
