Blow a Kiss

The rain was falling harder now.
Ladybug had to keep moving to finish. The team would not understand her plan. As soon as they figured it out they would try to stop her. She needed to finish before they figured it out.
The darkness would help her but the storm was not working in her favor. A bright flash of lightning gave her position away. She could see Nightwing move from his position.
“Dammit,” Ladybug said.
She could barely even hear herself over the rumble of the thunder. The building was shaking, making the already slippery climb even more dangerous.
He used a grapple to swing closer to her. Wiping the streaks of rain out of her eyes she tossed her yoyo out to get ahead of him. She didn’t expect him to abandon his line to leap at hers.
His body hit hers and they veered off course. The yoyo tightened and they swung wildly in the wind. She clung to him, refusing to let him fall but looking for a place to drop him where he couldn’t interfere.
“This isn’t the plan,” he shouted over the storm.
Lightning brightened the sky again and cast light over his determined face. His mouth had thinned to show how serious he was, but she was also serious. She had far more experience being serious when it was called for than he did. She wouldn’t let him stop her; it was the only way.
They landed against the building, Nightwing using his feet to cushion them from slamming into the side. Her arms strained with the weight of them suddenly fighting against the wind instead of blowing with it. Nightwing pulled up to a ledge and helped her up. She released her yoyo and turned towards him.
The thunder rumbled again, loudly. She could tell he was shouting her name but she couldn’t hear it. She turned back away from him and threw her yoyo higher again. He grasped at her arm but didn’t make purchase as she swung away. The wind was still whipping around her but she was able to make it to the top.
If she could finish before he got up here, then she could hopefully find a way to get him away. She pulled the last charge out of her bag and set it. When he climbed up, she was ready for him. The lightning flashed, blinding her, as he was climbing up. When she could see again, he was standing right before her.
The thunder started immediately.
The rumbling hid her own shaking. Whether against the cold or standing up against Nightwing.
He was going to talk her out of it. He probably could. She could never tell him no. But this time, she knew that this was the only way. She threw out her yoyo and pulled tight to make sure it was secure.
He had that look on his face. Like he had already won.
She did the one thing she had always wanted to do but had been too scared. She put her hand behind his neck and pulled him down for a kiss. He gasped in shock but he pressed against her and returned the kiss. She had always wondered if he would. The rain streamed all over their faces. His hand moved to her hip and she wrapped her arms around him. He didn’t even notice that she no longer held the yoyo cord.
The lightning flashed and she pushed away and kicked him off. He would be okay. The yoyo was secure and he would right himself. She kissed her fingers and waved. He probably couldn’t see her against the lightning.
The rumbling started and she activated the trigger. The sounds of the explosions blended in but the bright burning was a stark contrast from the flashes of lightning.
The heat enveloped her. It was only her that needed to be sacrificed.
Nightwing would be safe.
