Like… I know distance is a metric that is subjectively judged (allegedly) but I feel like if u can miraculously do a backwards salto skill with good form and without under- or over-rotating and there’s like zero lateral movement on the skill u should still get brownie points for that. Cuz that’s black magic like what the hell

JIMIN'S HYPE BOY
I often think about the Festa 2022 dinner where Jimin talks about the new songs he was preparing for his album.(It was June'22 and Jimin had already started working on Face)
Jhope said he had listened to his songs and we had Jungkook pouting and complaining to Jimin for not sending his songs. Of course, all in good fun. But there was a hint of genuineness in JK's complaint, lol. And RM didn't miss this chance to say "jhope is #1 to jimin" or something along those lines. Which is true.
I have a theory why Jimin doesn't seek out JK for feedback on his work. Simply because Jungkook is heavily biased. I don't think Jungkook would critically criticise Jimin's work with brutal honesty. There are so many instances that will backup this theory:-
1. JK always having Jimin's back when members tease Jimin. He teases Jimin too, but when members do it, he chooses to take Jimin's side. It's always a reassuring touch, or just straight up defending.
2. Praises Jimin's cooking even when other members express distaste. Instances found in BV and Run BTS.
3. He even liked the cucumber drink Jimin got for everyone which others said was terrible (including Jimin). Now that could be JK's personal taste too.
Jungkook is very aware and conscious of Jimin's insecurities, I feel. And he knows how hard Jimin works. He doesn't have the heart to tell him where he lacks.
Meanwhile, jhope, rm or suga would do a better job of giving Jimin positive criticism and honest feedback.

Ever since I read two fics about Bruce's kids being in the tower when it's falling, it's made that scene a million times tastier. Like, in one fic, the kids all lived and helped other people, and Bruce was a terminator trying to get to them and make them leave but they kept helping others to his great pride and anxiety. In one they all died and it fucked me up, particularly when Bruce told Clark after the events if BvS, and holy shit, I was crying like a little baby like that shit just hits different.
Just, grieving dad Bruce, who doesn't have superman and Tim to stop him from killing, trying to avenge all five of his kids like 👀👀👀 it was so good!
Yeah!! Not to get too weird about BVS (again) I think there are some serious parallels between 9/11 and the attack on Metropolis that critics really intentionally overlook -- not just that the destruction is similar, but that Bruce's anger/fear/etc closely parallels the US reaction in the immediate aftermath.
He lost a whole skyscraper of his employees -- people who were supposed to be safe in Metropolis, safer than they would probably be in Gotham. And yes, in certain fics, he loses not just his loyal employees, but his kids, too.
I will be the first one to mock BVS (for a variety of reasons) but the whole "oooh Batman started killing and acting OOC out of nowhere" thing always seemed kind of silly to me.
There's a reason his first adult on-screen introduction in that movie is literally him running into a dust cloud in shirtsleeves and loafers -- it's not about Batman. It's Bruce Wayne lifting beams and dragging children out of harm's way.
The Black Zero Event/Battle of Metropolis likely resulted in the death of thousands of people -- several times the destruction of 9/11, though I'm not sure if anyone ever gave an exact number.
It's strange that an event that is clearly presented to evoke that parallel is taken as a mediocre or misguided motivation for any character, much less Bruce -- who is in a unique position as a vigilante to actually do something, however small, about it.

Possible psa for your followers with vaginas:
I just got a positive test back for BV and my only symptom was cramping after sex, which I hadn't worried about too much because it seemed in line with menstrual issues that I'm still working on getting a real diagnosis for.
I have lived with this for a year and had no other BV symptoms than that one. I didn't know it could present like this, and I wouldn't know if I hadn't brought it up to my new doctor.
If anyone else out there has unexplained cramping after sex, and you haven't been tested for BV, you might want to talk to a doctor about it. It could be something that's stupid easy to treat.
hot PSA for all my vaginal vagabonds out there

A lot of ppl are asking where Maleficia is (so valid we want to see the grandma) but I think we do need to remember that she's the sole ruler of Briar Valley right now. Malleus is dead unpredictable and a time bomb set to go off, with thorns that no one can get past lest they kill whoever is inside. Odds are she can't leave to go to him just yet, not only because it puts her life at potential risk (and losing 2 Draconia's is a death sentence for BV), but also because I bet you money her entire court is in crisis mode right now.
We have reason to believe she has sent people to the Isle (I think Fae were already mentioned trying to get through the thorns) and is likely working with other bodies to get more resources going. Not to mention the Senate is probably throwing a fit over all of this, and they're a whole other issue to handle.
She might show up when things get more settled (i.e Malleus' OB ends), or she might not show at all. But given her political position right now, she's in a tight spot regarding her ability to leave right at this moment.
Edit: Wanted to add that odds are, she does want to go to him. Her absence doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't care. It's just that when it comes to politics, nations, and a pending international crisis, things get dicey. Take it from someone who worked government and emergency management LMAO

Hi 👋
I am comparatively new to BTS, I had had their songs on my playlists but didn't know anything about their band dynamics. After I came across a run bts short on yt I became curious about their content and haven't been able to stop.
I hadn't even heard the term taekook but I was almost certain that there was something about those two that was different from the rest. I was certain that they were a couple but then I came to know about the various ships and sk's homophobia. I've been to so many jikook blogs and twtrs because I wanted to know what exactly I was missing in their interactions because to me they looked like friends, I just didn't get any couple vibes from them. I couldn't find that intensity b/w jk and jm which is very clearly present b/w tae & jk. Some tkkrs theories are wild, some of their interactions are blown way out of proportion but that still doesn't change the fact that they have that chemistry.
I came across your blog yesterday and I've been loving your take on tk. You are one of those rare bloggers who don't go around matching clothes and dates. Your opinions are quite level headed.
Woah...this got long 😅. Anyways what I wanted to ask you is what are your top 10 favourite tk moments, on or off cam?
Hi anon!
Welcome 🤗!
My top ten… making it hard for me I see. I’m probably going to be very inconsistent here 😂.
I do know my all time favorite though so on nr 1:
youtube
Nr 2 is very recent, but it’s so so so special:
youtube
Nr 3, when Tae arrived late at BV
Nr 4,
youtube
Nr 5:
Nr 6:
youtube
Nr 7:
youtube
Nr 8: Jk deciding to put his hand on Tae and being proud of it.
youtube
Nr 9: i feel this should be higher up..
youtube
Nr 10: jk scheming to get Tae to pick his room in Malta and them sharing a bed when he succeeds.
youtube
To be fair.. except for nr 1 and 2, the order of this will probably not be the same if you ask me in a month or so, and there’s so many favorites that i might even not choose the same ones again 😂

Personal recap European Championship 2024 - Men SP
I didn't post much recaps this season but today I had some things to say about the Men SP at Euros. And I had a massively productive and stressful day ane watching skating is my treat!
Overall there were some good skates but the last group was disappointing besides Lukas 🫶...I should have listened to my wifi when it decided to crash during Deniss' skate. 😅 (I rebooted the wifi and watched the rest)
Favorites continue to struggle...first the Italian Pairs Conti/Macci and also Adam Siao Him Fa had to fight. Unlike Conti/Macci he could make up for his mistakes with a massive BV. I think the pressure is realIy high, so for this he fought very well. 🫶 I really like Adam but his PCS are too high in comparison to others like Deniss. The first part of the program is also just skating from one jump to the other, if you look away from the vibe the first part is not more complex program wise than Ilia's for example.
Lukas Britschgi is such a fun guy! He is such a joy to watch! ❤️ The little costume change is fun too! Fun music, fun skater, clean program that's why I watch skating! 👏👏👏👏👏👏😁😁😁😁😁😁
Aleksandr Selevko was soooooo good! Amazing! Probably my personal highlight of the night! The spin position on the heel is so unusual and so cool. The whole program was so unique and amazing! 👏👏👏👏 I always loved his skating but so often he was unstable so I am so happy for him 🫶
Team Italy 🇮🇹 without Grassl I like 😁
Nikolaj Memola is such a beautiful skater and it's even more amazing with his gigantic height! Shame about the 4Lz fall but otherwise so beautiful.
Gabriele Frangipani is a bit underrated. He's full of charisma and his jumping ain't bad. When I saw him live he was always one of the memorable skaters. No matter if he had a good or bad skate he always performed so well.
Matteo Rizzo has a severe hip injury so he probably should not even be skating but he fought. Also that he patted Kevin's back despite it being his own take to skate shows a kind heart. ❤️ Get well soon Matteo! 🫶
Daniel Weiss the German commentator calls Deniss Vasiljews "Picasso on ice" and I think that's a good discription. 🫶 Deniss drop the quad for the SP challenge! It just doesn't make any sense in the SP. If he has to try it than try it in the free skate. And the other jumps are also not super great so why not stick to what you're good at. I think he got away quite good with the scores. But how beautiful and emotionally Deniss skates it can't hide the fact that there is no upward trend for Deniss in the last few years. And I am tired of the "I am on the right way" and "it's a good process" comments. Something clearly doesn't match. I dunno if the emotional attachement to Stephane helps or if it rather makes him stay with something that clearly doesn't bring him forward. Same goes for Kevin and his coaches btw. I know it's always easy to judge from the outside and I know he is far from being at the start of his career, but sometimes a change does wonders.
Some additional remarks about some skaters:
- Nikita Starostin - I have some beef with the German federation. This fed is incompetent as hell btw it just gets little talked about outside of Germany. He was really bad at Nats (I was there in person) and Kai Jagoda was 100 times better and contrary to Nikita he doesn't have an underrotation problem. His 3As are kinda stable. Nikita has a tiny bit more BV and if he's good he gets higher scores than Kai bc his overall quality is better, but I feel like as Nikita didn't have a stellar season and Kai delivered well at Nats and is fairly consistent they should have given Kai the chance. And I mean Nikita really didn't positively stand out today...it was ok but nothing Kai could not have done too.
- poor Mihhail Selevko 😭😭😭 Aleksandr was so good and he had such a bad day. Best and worst skates from the siblings!
- I really love Disney and especially Lion King but Vladimir Litvintsev does everything wrong what you can do wrong...horrible music cuts... horrible costume and no connection to the program....
- Nika Egadze has everything I don't like in a skater. ETERI AS A COACH! Stiffness in the knees, no deep edges, no connection to music and a weird costume. I mean what's that little white snippet that's added to the costume? I have nothing personally against Nika but he's really one of the few skaters whose skating I really don't like at all.
- Kevin Aymoz - what is there to say? 💔 I am truly heartbroken for him and everyone who celebrates the downfall of such a brilliant skater can go to hell. It's one thing if you don't like his personal choices but no one deserves to be celebrated for such a failure. There is no need to stomp on someone who is already on the floor. Did he look on the verve of giving up? Yes. Is this a good look? Not at all. Should he have come to Euros? I think yes if he felt stable and practices were ok. If he felt not ready then this was bound to happen from the start. I do understand the French Fed choice though. If he is on he could win a medal on European level his SkAm scores are among the highest of all international skaters. I think he has a real mental problem atm. And I don't think he should go to Worlds. A disaster skate can happen to anyone and I could even try to say FrenchNats was just bc it was so short after the disaster but sadly this is not just accidental at this point, it's a pattern. He has to break the pattern, maybe he should do small comps first where results aren't so important and get back the feeling for competing. I really wish him well! My heart goes out to Kevin! There will be better days! ❤️

So got absolutely *thrashed* by Clan Assault Mechs.
11k BV clan invasion. They brought a Kodiak, Stone Rhino, and Marauder IIC.
I on the other hand brought a Highlander, Victor, Falconer, Griffin, and Perseus (Omni-Orion)
Boi so I paid for every single pip of armour on that Perseus and it would not die! However I rolled Double 1's on the first UAC salvo and jammed my gun all game... So win some lose some.
Meanwhile the Falconer positioned itself brilliantly all game, only to land a single Medium Laser over about 8 turns of Game play, every single PPC and Gauss shot going wide. *Sigh*
My Victor was MVP with Griffin not far behind. The Victor took out a Kodiak with Griffin help, by blowing through the entire leg at point blank with Gauss + 2Med Pulse and an SRM4, the LB20 slugs went up in a glorious explosion sending the kodiak hurtling towards the ground. The Griffin capitalised next turn by putting a Large Pulse and majority of a LRM20 salvo up the arm and through the torso critting the engine out.
The Highlander tried. But was shot to pieces by the marauder and stone rhino with a combination of 2 Large Pulse, 2 Gauss, and 3 ER PPC. Even that much armour just couldn't last.

after watching BV back in the days my sister and I have always had that silly theory that Jk sleeps on the right side of the bed and Jm on the left. glad to see thanks to Jk’s last live that our theory is still getting strong 😏 please do not take this too seriously it’s just for funsies 😅
I am taking it seriously. 😂 it's proof that they sleep together. Most if not all couples have a side of the bed. I know I do!
JK always on the right

And Mimi always on the left

And when together they maintain these positions

Unless they're cuddling in which case JK is also on the left coz he's gotta hold his baby 🥺🥺

Scoring in Yuri on Ice
or the IJS Scoring System prior to 2018
Tumblr media
I made a guide like this before but I wanted to rewrite it since I found some flaws and want to add more resources and stuff for both YoI fanfic authors and fans who just want to understand scoring in figure skating a little better maybe :)
Disclaimer: I am only human. This guide is most likely flawed. But the ISU doesn't seem to understand their own scoring most of the time either so does it really matter? Please tell me if I have wrong information on anything or explained it wrong/confusingly. ^^
The International Judging System (IJS) has been used in figure skating and ice dance competitions since 2004. It replaced the prior 6.0 system which awarded two marks on a scale to 0 to 6, one for technical merit and one for presentation.
Some of the "older" skaters in YoI, e.g. Viktor, Chris and Yuuri, still skated under the 6.0 at some point. If you place the start of the story in 2015/16, then Viktor skated under the 6.0 for his whole Junior career and the switch was made around when he started skating in seniors.
But we are not here to talk about the 6.0.
Scores given within the IJS consist of 2 parts: The Technical Element Score (TES) and Program Component Score (PCS), which are then combined to make up the Total Segment Score (TSS).
A score sheet from a competition (in this case short program) looks like this:
Tumblr media
So let's break that down, shall we?
Technical Element Score (TES)
The TES is about the technical elements in a program, such as jumps, spins, step and choreographic sequences.
In the Short Program there are 7 required elements which can be skated in whatever order:
A double or triple Axel
one triple or quad jump
a jump combination
one spin with a flying entry
a camel or sit spin with just one change of foot
a spin combination with just one change of foot
a step sequence
Single jumps don't recieve any points at all, but do count as a performed element. That means if a skater "pops" a jump, meaning they open up to early and only perform a single rotation, they can't just try again.
The short program is 2min 40 secs long +/- 10 secs
The Free Skate is more...well...free. But there are also restrictions.
A total of 12 elements have to be performed:
7 jump elements. One has to be an Axel jump.
Three spins. One has to be a combination, one has to be a single position and one has to have a flying entrance
One step sequence
One choreographic sequence
Different to the short program, you get points for single jumps. Though those are hardly ever performed on purpose.
The Free Skate is 4 minutes and 20 secs long +/- (now it's 4 min).
Every Element has a Base Value (BV). That meas the performed element is guaranteed those points minus deductions and plus the Grade of Execution (GOE).
Base Values
In Figure Skating there are 6 jumps which can be performed with up to 4 roations at the time being. I will list them with the according base values and with the according abbreviations.
Toe Loop:
1T =0.4pt - 2T =1.3pt- 3T = 4.3pt - 4T = 10.3pt
Salchow:
1S = 0.4pt - 2S = 1.3pt - 3S = 4.4pt - 4S = 10.5pt
Loop:
1Lo = 0.5pt - 2Lo = 1.8pt - 3Lo = 5.1pt - 4Lo = 12pt
Flip:
1F = 0.5pt - 2F = 1.9pt - 3F =5.3pt - 4F= 12.3pt
Lutz:
1Lz = 0.6pt - 2Lz = 2.1pt - 3Lz = 6pt - 4Lz =13.6pt
Axel:
1A =1.1pt - 2A= 3.3pt - 3A = 8.5pt - 4A = 15pt
Those values are for prior to 2018 and correct in the context of YoI, the Base Value of the quads and 3A are now a little lower.
-> Why is the Axel worth so much more?
Unlike the other jumps, a single Axel has 1 1/2 rotations, since, other than the all other jumps, it has a forward take off, but is landed backwards.
As of now, the quad Axel has only been landed succesfully by Ilia Malinin, a 18 y/o skater from the USA. He landed it for the first time in competition and got it ratified at the beginning of the 22/23 season at the US Classic, a challenger event that was freaking geoblocked so no one outside the US fucking saw history being made...
Prior to that, Yuzuru Hanyu trained the 4A intensely, and landed it in competition on two feet at the Japanese National Championships in 2021, but failed to get it ratified internationally at the 2022 Olympics because he fell.
But, as far as YoI canon goes, not even Viktor jumps a quad Axel. The extra half rotation makes that jump extremly difficult and was deemed impossible for a very long time. And while I encourage you to use the quad Axel as a story point and a goal for one of the characters, and think it can be very powerful, I highly discourage you from putting a quad Axel in your story lightly.
Euler Jump (a transitional half jump used in combinations to change the edge for take off): 1 EU 0.5 points
-> in YoI that would still be called a single Loop (because thats what it is basically...) and be marked as 1Lo! They changed the name in 2018.
I will try to make another post about the different jumps soon, but for now here is a guide for telling apart jumps!
youtube
Combination jumps:
For jump combinations the base values are simply combined. E.g.: A 3F+1Lo+3S combination has a base value of 10.1 points.
Reduction of Base Value:
An underrotated jump (<) will receive 70% of the Base Value, a downgraded jump (<<) receives the Base Value of the jump with one less rotation. If I am not mistaken the 70% Base Value rule also applies to jumps with a wrong take off edge (marked with "e"). Someone please corect me if I'm wrong, I couldn't find the information anywhere...
Repetition:
In the Short Program, each jump can only be executed once. That means that if a skater jumps for example a triple toe loop as a solo jump and as part of the combination, the second jump won't receive any points.
Further in the Free Skate, the "Zayak rule" is to be observed, meaning that from all triple and quad jumps, only two can be executed twice. The repeated jump has to be in combination! For example having a 4T and 4T+2T in your program is valid. But if you have two solo 4T the second one gets marked +REP and receives 70% of the base value.
This also means that if a skater falls on that combination with the repeated jump, it's extra bad. Because that means -1pt for the fall, negative GOE of course and the jump is only worth 70%...tough.
If a skater repeats a jump, it will often be refered to as "zayaked".
Jumps of the same type but with different amounts of rotation are not considered the same jump.
Extra jump elements exceding the 3 in the Short and 7 in the Free don't receive any points.
Spins:
For Spins there are 4 basic positions: Upright, Layback, Sit and Camel. A Combination Spin must include an upright, a sit and a Camel position.
You can get awarded up to a Level 4 for a Spin, depending on various features such as a difficult entry, difficult change of position, visible increase of speed....
I will explain Spins and Spin Levels further in another post but here is a (very long...) list of values for different spins:
Upright Spin (USp):
USpB 1pt - USp1 1.2pt - USp2 1.5pt - Usp3 1.9pt - USp4 2.4
Flying Upright Spin (FUSp):
FUSpB 1.5pt - FUSp1 1.7pt - FUSp2 2pt - FUSp3 2.4pt - FUSp 4 2.9pt
Upright Spin with change of foot (CUSp):
CUSpB 1.5pt - CUSp1 1.7pt - CUSp2 2pt - CUSp3 2.4pt - CUSp4 2.9pt
Layback Spin (LSp):
LSpB 1.2pt - LSp1 1.5 - LSp2 - 1.9 - LSp3 2.4 - LSp4 2.7pt
Flying Layback Sping (FLSp):
FLSpB 1.7pt - FLSp1 2pt - FLSp2 2.4pt - FLSp3 2.9pt - FLSp4 3.2 pt
Layback Spin with change of foot (CLSp):
CLSpB 1.7pt - CLSp1 2pt - CLSp2 2.4pt - CLSp3 2.9pt - CLSp4 3.2pt
Camel Spin (CSp):
CSpB 1.1pt - CSp1 1.4pt - CSp2 1.8pt - CSp3 2.3pt - CSp4 2.6pt
Flying Camel Spin (FCSp):
FCSpB 1.6pt - FCSP1 1.9pt - FCSp2 2.3pt - FCSp3 2.8pt - FCSp4 3.2pt
Camel Spin with a change of foot (CCSp):
CCSpB 1.7pt - CCSp1 2pt - CCSp2 2.3pt - CCSp3 2.6pt - CCSp4 3.2pt
Sit Spint (SSp):
SSpB 1.1pt - SSp1 1.3pt - SSp2 1.6pt - SSp3 2.1pt - SSp4 2.5pt
Flying Sit Spin (FSSp):
FSSpB 1.7pt - FSSp1 2.0pt - FSSp2 2.3pt - FSSp3 2.6pt - FSSp4 3pt
Sit Spin with a change of foot (CSSp):
CSSpB 1.6pt - CSSp1 1.9pt - CSSp2 2.3pt - CSSp3 2.6pt - CSSp4 3pt
Spin Combination (CoSp):
CoSpB 1.5pt - CoSp1 1.7pt - CoSp2 2pt - CoSp3 2.5pt - CoSp4 3pt
Spin Combination with a change of foot (CCoSP):
CCoSpB 1.7pt - CCoSp1 2pt - CCoSp2 2.5pt - CCoSp3 3pt - CCoSp4 3.5pt
If you want to see good spins in men's skating, I highly recomend taking a look at Roman Spindovsky...ehm I mean Sadovsky ;D Here an example of a level 4 change of foot combination spin from him:
youtube
Step Sequence
A step sequence should have little two footed skating, a variety of different difficult turns and steps and cover the whole ice surface. Just as for spins, levels from base to 4 are awared depending on several factors that I will try to explain in a future post.
But for you to get an idea of what a masterful Level 4 step sequence looks like, here is the step sequence from Yuzuru Hanyu's Rondo:
As for Base Value:
Basic Level: 1.5 points
Level 1: 1.8 points
Level 2: 2.6 points
Level 3: 3.3 points
Level 4: 3.9 points
Choreographic Sequence:
The Choreographic Sequence is only performed in the Free Skate, and includes choreographic elements such as spirals, lunges... I will also make a post introducing different choreo elements in (hopefully) the near future, but for now have this Choreo Sequence from Deniss Vasiljevs as an example!
Watch the video from 1:25min to roughly 2:00min (or watch the whole thing I highly recomend :D). Using this as an example out of spite because the judges are stupid and inavlidated it for some reason...idiots...
youtube
As for Base Value, there are no different levels for choreographic Sequences so, very short "list":
ChSq 2pt
Grade of Execution (GOE):
The GOE ranged from -3 to +3 prior to 2018. The panel of judges awards GOE depending on how well executed an element is.
But how is GOE awarded?
Both positive and negative aspects of a performed element are considered and then added in the end for the final GOE.
Jumps:
To receive +1 GOE, 2 of the following bullets must be achieved, for +2, 4 bullets and for +3 6 or more.
unexpected/creative/difficult entry (An example for that would be a back counter into an axel jump)
clear recognizable steps/free skating movements immediately preceding the element (My favorite example in Yuzuru's Twizzle exit from a 3A)
varied position in the air/delay in rotation (Remember when Yuri Plisetsky raised his arms during his jumps in the Grand Prix Final? That's what they mean with varied position in the air. Delay in rotation is pretty self explainatory I think. The skater needs longer to rotate, making it more difficult)
good height and distance
good extension on landing/ creative exit
good flow
effortless throughout
element matched to the musical structure (I just love when a skater lands a jump right when the music pics up mmmh chefs kiss)
Negative GOE is given for the following errors (It's too much to write down so here is a screenshot from the ISU Guidelines):
Tumblr media
Spins:
To receive +1 GOE, 2 of the following bullets must be achieved, for +2, 4 bullets and for +3 6 or more.
good speed or acceleration during spin
ability to center a spin quickly
balanced rotations in all positions
clearly more than required number of revolutions (which is 3 is think)
good, strong position(s) (including height and air/landing position in flying spins)
creativity and originality
good control throughout all phases
element matched to the musical structure
Negative GOE is given for the following errors:
Tumblr media
Traveling refers to a skater moving across the ice during a spin instead of staying in roughly the same space.
Step Sequence:
To receive +1 GOE, 2 of the following bullets must be achieved, for +2, 4 bullets and for +3 6 or more.
good energy and execution
good speed or acceleration during sequence
use of various steps during the sequence
deep clean edges (including entry and exit of all turns)
good control and commitment of the whole body maintaining accuracy of steps
creativity and originality
effortless throughout
element enhances the musical structure
Negative GOE is given for the following errors:
Tumblr media
Choreographic Sequence:
To receive +1 GOE, 2 of the following bullets must be achieved, for +2, 4 bullets and for +3 6 or more.
good flow, energy and execution
good speed or acceleration during sequence
good clarity and precision
good control and commitment of whole body
creativity and originality
effortless throughout
reflecting concept/character of the program
element enhances the musical structure
Negative GOE is given for the following errors:
Tumblr media
Calculating GOE:
The Panel of judges usually consists of 9 judges. The lowest and highest GOE mark are cut, then the average of the remaining 7 is used to determine the GOE points for that jump.
For example:
A skater executed a Triple Lutz with a base value of 6 points. The GEO marks from the judges were as followed: +2, +2, +3, +2, +1, +1, +2, +2, +2. The highest and the lowest mark get cut. The average of the remaining 7 is 1.86. To calculate the GEO you now take the base value and do the following: 6 x 18.6% = 1.116 so about 1.12 points. The total points awarded for that jump would be: 7.12points
For combinations the base value of the hightest valued jumps is used to determine GOE, not the combined base value of the jumps.
As for step and choreographic sequences you multiply the average by 0.5 to get the GEO.
Yay! Maths :D
Highlight Distribution:
Jumps performed in the second half of the program are awarded a 1.1 multiplier of the the base value. E.g.: A 3A performed in the second half has a base value of 8.8 points.
Yuuri takes advantage of that a lot.
Prior to 2018 there was no limit on how backloaded (term used to describe programms with a lot of jumps in the second half) a program could be. Technically all jumps could be executed in the second half. However that left programs empty and boring in the first half since the skaters were basically just stalling time.
Now the multiplier is only applied to the first jump in the second half of the short and to the first 3 in the second half of the free. I am not opposed to that rule. The ISU made a rule that made sense for once
Deductions:
Of course, points are deducted for mistakes or other rule violations.
Deductions are:
Falls:
First two falls -1pt each. Third and fourth fall -2pt each. -3pt each for each fall after that.
Interruptions:
If the performance is interrupted by the skater, they lose -1pt for >10 but <20 secs, -2pt for >20 but <30 secs and -3 for >30 but <40. -5pt if the program isn't resumed withing 3 minutes.
Time violation:
-1pt per 5sec (program either too long or too short)
Costume/prop violations:
-1pt
A costume violation would for example be feathers (real feathers are prohibited), or if, for women, a boob falls out or something.
Props aren't allowed all together.
Part of the costume falls off on the ice:
-1pt
Somersault type jumps (aka Backflip):
-2pt
Late start:
Skater doesn't take starting position within 30 secs -1pt
Program Compoment Score (PCS):
The PCS used to be about the 5 following categories and is awarded by each judge on a scale from 0 - 10 in steps of 0.25. 5.00 Would be "average". As you may already be able to tell...this is not a very reliable way to judge this. Yeah...
Skating Skills:
Basically how good a skaters skating is. Can they skate with power and ease both forwards and backwards as well as clockwise and counter-clockwise? How clean and clear are the curves (edges) over the ice?
A skater should look effortless in their movement. Quick and easy, flowing over the ice with soft knees and ankles.
Their skating shouldn't be scratchy and noisy, resulting from pushing with the toe rather than the side of the blade.
Something you will often hear fans complain about or praise are edges. A Figure skate blade has two edges, outside and inside, and one sign of good skating skills is being able to go down deep on them. Look at Ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir for example. Edges so deep the side of the boot almost touches the ice. Beautiful!
Tumblr media
Transitions:
The "in between" technical elements. You don't want to just skate between elements, you want to tie the program together with linking steps. Skaters idealy incorperate different steps and turns to make the programm seem seamless. You want there to be little (visible) prep time for the next element.
I will make another post regarding such steps and turns.
Performance:
This is one of the categories that is heavily dependent on the judges personal preference.
In this category skaters are judged based on their, well, performance... Are they emotionally, physically and mentally involved? Do they project the entire audience? Do they have good ice presence?
In the case of Yuri on Ice: this is where all the Katsudon, waterfalls, grandpas etc. come in. Yuuri seduced Viktor for those sweet PCS points haha xD
Composition:
In this category the placing of the elements across the ice surface are judged.
Idealy a skater should use as much of the entire ice surface as possible.
Then there's also questions such as if the spacing of the elements etc. has some sort of purpose. Is there a story told or idea conveyd? Does the movement match the phrasing of the music?
For this category, having a good choreographer comes in very handy ;)
Interpretation:
Again, heavily judge dependant...
Is the skater performing with their soul? Are they skating with music in the background or are they skating to the music, their movement matching the beats in it?
This is the "music" that Yuuri emits when skating according to Viktor! So this is something he is very good at and should receive high points in...if the judges actually do that is another question...
Calculation of PCS:
Very easy this time! It's just the average of the individual scores given by the judges. For the Free Skate the score is factored by 2.0, meaning it's doubled to balance it a little with the TES.
Further Resources:
Now this looks very overwhelming! But here are some pages to help you!
SkatingScores:
You can use this blank IJS sheet to easily calculate scores using the abbreviations I used in this post! They also are the best and biggest available data base for scores in figure skating and you can look up competitons and skaters here!
ISU Results:
If you want to find score sheets for a specific competition you want to reference, you can also quickly google "ISU results (competition)". For example, Grand Prix Final 2015:
There you can access the judges scores for the competion as pdfs.
So you want to watch figure skating?:
This blog is really helpful. They have various guides to figure skating as well, but be aware that they are of course up to date with the newest rules. But they also have a handbook with terms you will often hear and may want to use!
Further Notes:
Scoring in figure skating is highly controversial and in conversation with fans you will often hear terms such as over- and underscoring.
There is corruption, there is favoritism...you name it, figure skating probably has it...
If you want your characters to be upset about something in the sport, scoring is one of your safest bets.
You can have Yuuri's fans and probably Viktor too, be outraged by Yuuri's too low PCS, or the low GOE on his step sequence. Maybe they even rated that one a level 3 instead of the usual 4? Lot's of possibilities for frustration...
Another thing that is frustrating for Yuuri in particular is that jumps are worth so much more and make up a big chunk of the TES.
He is known for his intricate step sequences. But what does that matter if he can't get more than 5.4 points for it? And you rarely get full +3 GOE! The step sequence, which is such a vital part of a figure skating program and show cases such a varried skill set, is worth roughly the same as a triple flip max...
Sure there is the PCS, but here the judges are often biased, or simply don't know how to award points. It sometimes appears to be a bit arbitrary. Skaters who do a shit tone of cross overs suddenly get skating skill scores in the 9 point + range... It's bizarre.
Tumblr media
Anyway...I hope you enjoyed this guide and find it usefull! I will try to get the other parts to this out as soon as I can!
And if you read this far: thank you <3 Have a lovely rest of your day and have fun writing!

Any predictions for Worlds?
My prediction for Worlds is that it's unpredictable. 😁 I assume that you wanna talk the men competition? (I can talk about all other disciplines as well, but that would take too long here)
I'd say there are 4 contenders for the Gold medal at Worlds Ilia, Shoma, Yuma and Adam.
Let's take a look at the Season 2023/2024 Best Scores:
1. Ilia Malinin (6 quads FS) - 314,66 (GPF23)
2. Yuma Kagiyama (3 quads FS) - 307,56 (4cc23)
3. Adam Siao Him Fa (4 quads FS) - 306,78 (GPFra23)
4. Shoma Uno (4 quads FS without all combos) - 297,34 (GPF23)
And the Personal Best Scores:
1. Ilia Malinin - 314,66 (GPF23)
2. Shoma Uno - 312,48 (Worlds 2022)
3. Yuma Kagiyama - 310,05 (Olympics 2022)
4. Adam Siao Him Fa - 306,78 (GPFra2023)
I think the SP will be key and who makes less mistakes. A mistake in the SP can cost the title. The free skate however will decide who will win.
Let's take a look at each of the 4:
First don't underestimate the current World champion! I know Shoma doesn't have the highest season scores and even his PB is behind Ilia's but Shoma has one thing that none of the others have, which is experience under pressure. Shoma is 26 years old and around in his 9th senior season, there is no one that can beat him on that. As Shoma's season best scores aren't as high imo he has the highest potential to improve his scores by miles. I think for the SP Shoma is quite save. Out of 4 SPs this season he hit 4 clean skates! For his free skate we have to take into consideration that so far this season he had no complete BV, he always missed one jumping pass bc he popped one of them. The q's have also been a problem this season yet he still was 2nd at GPF despite of it. Shoma's BV is 3rd highest if he's not going back to 5 quads, but his PCS will be the highest unless he makes serious mistakes. Also Shoma performs usually best when he's not the favorite. So never count him out! Shoma paces himself usually for the big competitions but Shoma seems to have new boots, so it's a bit of a gamble to say where his consistency might be.
I did this calculation after GPF23, where a realistic score for a clean free skate could be around 211+, which is higher than anyone's.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a big Shoma fan I ofc want Shoma to win a 3rd world title and I think that's also within the possibilties.
I think it's undeniable that Ilia has the highest BV and therefore the highest scoring possibilty, but I actually doubt that possible score will be much higher than what he got at the GPF. Ilia is also the one of the 4 with the lowest PCS. The SP is going quite well for him this season, but a 4A in the SP would be very risky and could also cost him dearly if missed. Of course a clean 6 quad free program will be hard to beat and the 4A seems to add PCS as well, but still his PCS hold him back a bit. Imo Ilia's PCS are still too high but that high TES give you high PCS is nothing new in skating and we have to be realistic that his PCS will only increase. Yet Ilia was again not very convincing at US Nats and it's reported that he's struggling with his new boots. Could also be that Ilia peaked too early to win...
Adam is quite similar case as Ilia with the PCS but his BV is not as high though Adam is also training a 4F and might include it into his program, what would upgrade his BV. Adam's SP has been a bit of a problem under pressure, yet also if he is clean he would place 4th after the SP if Yuma, Shoma and Ilia are clean. I think Adam's scores this season are quite maxed out judging wise. He never scored as high before and he got those scores with clean skates. I think that Adam may have peaked a bit too early in the season, his Euros performance was less than stellar and he never was in a position to win a World championship. We should not underestimate the difference in pressure. I actually think if everyone goes clean it would be Adam who is 4th.
Yuma has the lowest BV of the 4 contenders, but almost as high PCS as Shoma. His GOEs are probably the best out of the 4 contenders which makes up for less difficulty. You can see that if you compare Yuma's 3 quad 4cc free skate score with Ilia's 6 quad free skate score, that they are almost the same score despite Ilia's massive BV. With the high from the 4cc win Yuma definetly gained confidence yet without devaluing his win the mental game is quite different when you're not competing among the best. At JNats Yuma showed an unusual mistake in the SP I guess because of the pressure and at Worlds 2022 he also made very uncharistic mistakes under pressure. Yet the way he presented himself this season and condidering the judging at 4cc I would say Yuma is a favorite to win.
I don't want to make a final ranking what I think will happen because usually Worlds has very unpredictable results. I mean Junhwan Cha was not on the favorites list to win Worlds 2023 yet he was very close. I would not be surprised if the men event is a hot mess and someone totally under the radar lands on the podium.
Even if I ofc have my wishes all I really wish for is an exciting and fair competition. That's all. Another title for Shoma would be great but anything that happens now is a bonus and 3 world titles one after the other is pretty high expectation. Shoma is not underestimating his rivals nor do I, but you better should not underestimate Shoma as well. 😊

But what did Jungkook say to have Yoongi reply with “there’s something about Jimin that tugs at your heartstrings” lol? Are we getting some extra cute, extra endearing Jimin content in that variety show? What kind of little story did JK tell Yoongi to get that kind of response, I’m dying I need it now 😫
Also the way JK was just smiling so big and laughing the whole time. He was so endeared. I seriously love them. Yoongi too (more big smiles). I love how Jimin randomly and casually just told Yoongi he was going to the US the next day to have a drink with JK and Yoongi’s bemused but supportive response. Also the fact that Jikook randomly called Yoongi while they were there! I hope we get to see that conversation.
Sounds like things were a little chaotic from JK’s description, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what all went down because it’s always more fun when there’s a little chaos involved imo (as long as it wasn’t something that actually caused them trouble). Like from the second Jimin arrived lol?? What happened? I think we'll probably get a few more details about how it all came together once it's officially announced/released.
Also I’m surprised JK would randomly take off the weekend after his solo debut to film a mini camping vacation with JM! That’s honestly really cute tbh, in a very ot7 way, not sure how else to describe it. I wonder if we’ll get to see any of JKs feelings about the positive response towards Seven too since it seems like he was with Jimin when it was all coming out. It must have been pretty emotional for him! Would love to see his reaction to some of those early numbers and hype.
I figured we were getting some sort of mini BV but it’s interesting to learn that it really was a Jikook only project, and also something that they had talked about wanting to do in the past. I wonder why JM thought it would be fun to film a mini vacation with JK specifically! Honestly I think they always have so much fun together and the best chemistry, so I’m really excited. I don't think we've really gotten anything else like this in CH2 so far either? Like this is pretty unique content! I'm curious to see if we'll get more secretly filmed variety content from various members sometime next year. On a similar note, I would love to see vmin together on Running Man for a similar reason. I think it would be really fun, chaotic and funny to be able to see their dynamic on a variety show setting without the other members around.
Also think it’s sooooooo funny that Jikook were so secretive about this project only for Yoongi to casually announce it for no real reason on Suchwita lmao. So anticlimactic. Like all that secrecy and for what? JK’s half a second deer in the headlights expression when Yoongi brought it up was funny and cute too.

Hey remember when I first drew Spinner and Weaver and said' 'im probs never gonna draw these guys again lmao' Yeah anyway
Spinner is my second fave of the textile trio but probably my most complex.
My Weaver is a pretty straightforwards sort of person, wears their heart on their sleeve, not much going on that he doesn't already reveal to people. Very optimistic, loves everyone, glass half full and brain half empty /aff Good parent to his daughter, Cinnamon is a bit of brat tho lol but she's Weaver's lil' girl still. She gets to be on this pile just to lift the mood (and bcuz I wanted to draw drag makeup, one of their fave hobbies)
Tailor's generally easy to understand too, good natured man with a bit of a kvetchy side, but he has a bit more going on under the surface relating to his issues with his ex, but a lot of that is kind of romantic relationship specific and sometimes a bit hard to explore in this server but dw he's doing fine lol he has Farmer 💚 Good dad to Diligent and Sower; Sower can be a handful but she has Farmer and Diligent to look out for her too so the relationship with Tailor is positive.
Spinner … now Spinner has a bit more going on. He's trying, he is. He's a loner that doesn't want to be lonely, neutral aro-ace that likes his close friends and family but is very introverted and was woefully ill prepped for a child like Wrangler. He really wanted to be a father and liked the baby years but I think in his mind Spinner figured since he was single parenting his son would sort of become a Spinner 2.0 and wasn't quite anticipating a child that's the equivalent of a miniature tornado in his house. Farmer's family is used to that, Spinner is not. And it does cause issues. Out of all the family dynamics in the BV next gen it's one of the rockiest, at least for a while. Spinner will learn to accept Wrangler and Wrangler will mature eventually. There's good days and bad, but there's genuine father-son love and both are willing to compromise 💙
