I read your blog a little and didn’t consider the ecological consequences of keeping non captive breeding inverts, it for some reason didn’t click for me that this means they’re likely wild caught. It’s unfortunate this is a common enough practice in the US nobody really bats an eye at it, given that Orthoporus and Narceus americanus are 2 really common species kept as pets here… thanks for speaking up about it, I’m glad I know now
yep! blue death feigning beetles are another one that gets me a little worried every time I see huge tubs full of them on bug sellers’ pages. they make good pets* but are difficult to captive breed, so all those thousands are probably collected from the wild. maybe it would be okay if there was actual research on either of these species to show that their wild populations can withstand such collection, but unfortunately I don’t think either is studied well enough for that.
at least there are a few people out there who have managed to breed BDFBs, so even if the average pet keeper isn’t willing to make a breeding setup and manage larvae, there might be breeders in the future who can meet the demand and lessen the impact on wild beetles.

hello friends. it's occured to me that I've never seen a moon bear cub. I can ask Google but I'd rather direct internet traffic to my favorite bear blog. do you have baby moon bears? if you don't, any bear cubs will satisfy the yearning in my soul for cute baby bears. thank you! te amo mucho.
We do friend, we do indeed

What's also really sad about Rocket's backstory is the fact that he was most probably not caught on earth but already bred and born in captivity. Because the HE had a bunch of other raccoon babies years after him and i don't think that asshole would be willing to make several trips to earth over the years. So that must also be the reason his dream was to fly into the sky. Because he couldn't remember it. He didn't know a life in freedom

Honestly if they actually did ok in captivity i think catching every single vaquita would be justifiable. Much like what was done with California condors and black footed ferrets. Although illegal fishing is a lot harder to handle than just giving every released individual a distemper vaccine.
I agree. Once a sufficient number were propagated in captivity, they could be reintroduced to the wild while maintaining a “backup” population in human care, like with red wolves and the species you mentioned! But unfortunately it’s not to be 😔
Hate those gill nets. Awful things.

Todays tadpiole,
The banded bullfrog/asian painted frog/digging frog/Malaysian bullfrog/common Asian frog/painted ballon frog or more commonly know as the chubby frog tadpole
These many named goobers are actually a personal favourite species of mine
And I own one
his (I think) name is Potato (I am aware that’s a basic name) but we mostly call him Guenouille which is French for fuog. There aren’t any typos in the previous sentence. I am serious.
hehe beeg boi colors

damn there's still grown ass adults out there who can't handle the fact that the Sawyer's being inbred in TCM isn't for "shock value" but an aspect of the horror to display how they act as animals and are reliving cycles of abuse and trauma from their generational grooming to view that family is the only thing that matters?

Nice in theory, still doesn’t compare to their homes where they’re free with their loved ones. How would you feel?
Oh my god? In the like seven years I've run this, I think this is the first anon hate I've ever gotten?? Does this qualify as anon hate?

i think a very telling point about modern western society is
we have an industry that people pay to spread poison and torture devices around to kill mice and cockroaches and rats and snakes and things
and we also have an industry that people pay to breed and sell mice and cockroaches and rats and snakes and things
and you will find both of these businesses in the same town

working at a pet store has proven to me that if I see a certain animal (or fish) for more than 3 consecutive days I am fully ready to die for it
and it hurts me knowing that the little turtles, fishies and stray cat that we have might be going into homes that either don't know or don't want to provide proper care for them

My Team:
I only have 2 permanent members of my team. Lady 7 (Magcargo) and Bishop (Unown).
The Mt Chimney breeding program has a handful of other magcargo and dozens of slugma, but they're all wild caught and most are designated to be re-released into the wild. Some of them have names but I won't list them as there are Too Many.
Lady turned 9 last week, and she's the mother of a lot of members of the program. Very sweet girl, and has been a great companion. Since she's getting on in years, I'll probably keep a Slugma from her next batch of eggs to be Lady 8.
Bishop is a bit of an odd one. No idea how old they are because I caught them wild, but I've had them for almost 21 years now and they don't seem to be slowing down. They're very quiet, but friendly and always seem interested in watching the newly hatched slugma move around. A kindred spirit.
