Celestial events in September
In September, there are several interesting celestial events to look forward to, including:
1. **Full Harvest Moon**: The Full Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. It usually occurs in September, and this year, it falls on September 20, 2023. It's named the "Harvest Moon" because it traditionally provided extra light for farmers to gather their crops.
2. **Autumnal Equinox**: On September 23, 2023, the autumnal equinox marks the first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. It's the moment when day and night are roughly equal in length, and it's a great time to observe the changing angle of the Sun in the sky.
3. **Mars and Venus**: Throughout September, you can observe Mars and Venus in the evening sky. Look westward after sunset, and you should be able to spot these two bright planets.
4. **Jupiter and Saturn**: In the early evening, you can also see Jupiter and Saturn in the southeastern sky. They will be prominent throughout September.
5. **Meteor Showers**: The September Perseid meteor shower, which peaks around September 9-10, may offer some shooting stars. While not as famous as the August Perseids, it's still worth looking out for.
6. **Planetary Conjunction**: Towards the end of September, there will be a close conjunction between Venus and Jupiter on September 29, 2023. They will appear very close in the evening sky, creating a beautiful celestial sight.
Remember to check local stargazing conditions, as factors like light pollution and weather can affect your ability to observe these events. If possible, use a telescope or binoculars for a closer view, and enjoy the wonders of the night sky in September.

Make it hurt, my pet - Chapter 2 - The Door
Tumblr media
Sirius stared at the door. It was the same as it had always been, the slightly reflective black lacquered wood, making him look like a weird misshapen version of himself. The way he always felt when he was in this house. Like he was trying to fit himself into a shell made for someone else. He wondered if that was how Regulus felt all the time.
Yesterday had been a shock to the system in more ways than one. First, he had been caught, a fact that had severely wounded not just his pride but his physical body. Fenrir had beaten him to a pulp and then dragged him across most of the country. He wasn’t even sure he was altogether there when he had finally been brought before Voldemort.
Seeing Regulus had brought him back like he had been hit with a bucket of freezing water. The feel of those cold eyes as they raked over him, was so unmistakably familiar, that it instantly filled him with a sense of dread and sadness. He had thought he was over feeling let down and hurt by the family he left behind, but everything Regulus did, always hurt like an open wound. From the day he turned away from him on the train and everything he had done since. A weakness inside that he could never fix.
The slap hurt. Regulus hadn’t held back at all, and Sirius had desperately tried to keep from tearing up. It was proof of his weakness, and he couldn’t let him know. Regulus would never hold back from an opportunity to twist the knife, to make it hurt more than it already did. The rest of the time had been a blur, the words melding together and washing over him like water. Everything until Regulus declared: I would like to invoke my right of claim.
What exactly was a right of claim? Obviously, some ridiculous death eater term. He had wished that it meant that Regulus now owned him in their eyes, that maybe it meant he still cared. He foolishly began to let hope gather in his chest, because maybe this wasn’t the end. Maybe his brother still loved him, somewhere in that cold dead heart of his.
It was then that Voldemort's words had finally hit home. Pet, he had called Regulus pet, the name of the most vicious and brutal of all the Death Eaters. A man responsible for so much death and destruction that Sirius couldn’t even recall all of it.
The man who had killed James.
The pain of it was still smarting when they finally landed in Grimmauld Place and as soon as he could move, he let the bile rise out of him until he was spewing harsh, hateful words at Regulus and couldn’t make them stop. Regulus, for his part, sat calmly and took it all, with a resigned sort of attitude, as if he were bored with the whole conversation. To Sirius, it felt like he was banging and screaming against a brick wall, as though nothing he did mattered.
Then Remus was there, and it felt like one more betrayal. Remus who he had loved so fiercely yet had kept secrets from him like they were treasures and lied like it was nothing. A fact that was very evident from the way he was coming into his brother's house and falling into his arms like he’d been there a million times before. His brother, the highest-ranked death eater, Voldemort’s pet. He had tried to crawl away, tried to look away before the nightmare got worse.
But then everything had turned around so quickly that it gave him whiplash.
Regulus was a spy. A spy that used his power and position to leak secrets to the cause. Sirius was appalled that the Order had even considered working with him, but Remus seemed to trust him, because he had been his handler. A secret that he had never told Sirius. They were close in a way that made something inside Sirius hurt but he tried to push that jealousy aside and focus on what they were saying. It seemed almost like a dream and a nightmare wrapped up into one.
He couldn’t believe that James had let him believe that all these years his brother had hated him. The same James that had commiserated with him and cursed with him every time Regulus had broken his heart had colluded with that very same person. To find out, that after all this time it was a lie, had twisted a knife inside him. Regulus had sacrificed himself to save him. His baby brother. The one he was supposed to protect had sacrificed himself to save him. He couldn’t help but think of all the things that Regulus had done in Sirius’s name. He had heard stories. Everyone in the order had heard stories of the atrocities that Voldemort’s Pet had committed.
That Sirius had been protected and coddled because of it all, made him feel sick to his stomach, yet it was the death of his parents that had finally broken him. Sirius had spent the entirety of his young life protecting Regulus from their fury and their madness. To find out that in the end, it was Regulus who had taken the matter into his own hands, was too much. It should have been him. He should have been the one to do the deed. Such terrible sin should never have fouled his brother's hands. Was this the act that broke him? Turned him into the monster he is today? All Sirius knew was that Regulus had murdered them for him. He didn’t know how it was done but the implication was clear. They were no longer here, and Regulus was the reason why.
Sirius couldn’t take it anymore. The weight of the crimes committed in his name became too much. The grief became a black hole that pulled him down into himself and he collapsed. Hours had passed in a black haze of oblivion until he awoke again to see that familiar roof and his familiar room and had to face it, all over again.
Sirius had almost convinced himself that it had been a lie. All of it was impossible. There was no way that Regulus would have been able to keep this up for all those years. To do those things if he didn’t really believe. No, he couldn’t still love him. This couldn’t be the reason. Because, because if he did that meant that Sirius was the worst brother in the world. The fact that he hadn’t seen the truth behind the lies hurt more than anything. They had lost so much time.
He stood before that stupid door and took out his pain and his rage on the stark wood. He beat at it, till a thin sheen of sweat covered his skin, and his arms and legs ached. That door that resembled every fucked-up thing in this world. Then Regulus appeared and it all fell apart again.
I don’t care about the rest of them. I have only ever cared about you.
It hit him so hard that Sirius almost thought Regulus had hit him. His mind was reeling and trying to come to terms with this new reality. That everything he thought he knew about Regulus was a lie. A lie that had been perpetrated by his now-dead best friend. Aided and abetted by Regulus himself. Still in denial he cursed and swore and said the things that he knew would hurt him the most.
Like a stray street dog, with reflexes learnt from a life being kicked down, Regulus struck back just as fast. He cursed at him, tore down the wards and disappeared, leaving Sirius with a choice. A choice that he had always thought would be easy. A choice that until now had been easy. He should leave and join the order to try and save everyone he could. He should be out there fighting and trying to defeat Voldemort. He should be protecting Lily and Harry. His brother would die but countless more would live.
But he had turned and looked downstairs to where his brother had gone. His brother. The one he thought hated him. The one he had cried over time and time again, in dorm rooms, and James’s parents house and countless bars and clubs. The one he remembered every time he saw the birthmark on his hip because Regulus had one there too. The one he remembered every time he hid under his covers to read, because they used to hide there together. The one he could never forget.
He couldn’t bring himself to walk out that door. He couldn’t lose this now that he had it back. At least he thought he had it back. He had no idea what Regulus was thinking or feeling, only that he was happy to die if that was what Sirius chose.
When he got to the bottom of the stairs and found him, Regulus was no longer a blank mask with a frozen face but a broken man, with tears in his eyes, who looked like he would collapse any moment. It was then that it truly hit Sirius. It was all true. Regulus could and had hidden everything from him. Regulus did have the strength to push it all away and cut himself to the bone if that’s what was necessary.
He found himself reaching for him before he was even conscious of it. Once Regulus was in Sirius’s arms he came apart with a quiet sort of desperation. His tears were almost silent with only the occasional sob breaking through as though he didn’t know exactly how to cry with sound. That the only way to let it out was through this hushed and contained misery.
Sirius could only wipe his tears and whisper, “I’m not leaving, Reg.”

Solar Eclipse 2023: Everything you need to know about the first solar eclipse of the year
A solar eclipse is a spectacular astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, blocking some or all of the sun's light from reaching our planet. Depending on the relative positions and distances of the three celestial bodies, a solar eclipse can be total, partial, or annular.
On April 20, 2023, a rare type of solar eclipse will take place: a hybrid solar eclipse. This means that some parts of the world will witness a total eclipse, while others will see an annular eclipse. An annular eclipse happens when the moon is too far from the earth to completely cover the sun, leaving a bright ring of light around the dark lunar disk.
The hybrid solar eclipse of 2023 will be visible from remote areas of Australia, Indonesia, and East Timor. The path of totality, where the moon will completely obscure the sun, will span from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, mostly over water. The duration of totality will vary from less than a second to about a minute and a half, depending on the location.
The hybrid solar eclipse of 2023 will be a once-in-a-decade event, as such eclipses are very rare. The last one occurred in 2013 and the next one will not happen until 2031. They occur when the earth is at a certain point in its orbit around the sun, where the apparent sizes of the sun and the moon are almost equal.
To observe a solar eclipse safely, you need to use special equipment or techniques that protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays. Never look directly at the sun without proper protection, as this can cause permanent eye damage or blindness. Some of the methods you can use are:
Solar filters: These are specially designed glasses or lenses that block most of the sun's light and allow you to view the eclipse directly. Make sure they are certified by a reputable organization and do not have any scratches or defects.
Pinhole projector: This is a simple device that you can make at home using a cardboard box, a sheet of paper, and a small hole. The hole acts as a lens and projects an inverted image of the sun onto the paper inside the box. You can then look at the paper to see the eclipse.
Projection method: This involves using an optical device such as a telescope, binoculars, or camera to project an image of the sun onto a screen or a wall. You can then look at the screen or wall to see the eclipse. Do not look through the device directly at the sun, as this can damage your eyes and the device.
A solar eclipse is not only a beautiful sight to behold, but also an opportunity to learn more about our solar system and its dynamics. Scientists use solar eclipses to study various aspects of the sun, such as its corona, its magnetic field, and its influence on the earth's atmosphere and climate.
The hybrid solar eclipse of 2023 will be an exciting event for skywatchers and enthusiasts around the world. If you are lucky enough to be in its path, make sure you plan ahead and prepare well to enjoy this rare spectacle safely and responsibly.
