Hold On, Love, Chapter 3: Will Never Let You Down
Can also be read on AO3!
Rating: T
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Pairing: Kagehina (Kageyama, Hinata)
Characters: Shoyo Hinata, Atsumu Miya, Kotaro Bokuto, Kiyoomi Sakusa
Word Count: 4,194
Summary: Shoyo returns to Japan, and gets that much closer to facing his fated rival.
A/N: Happiest of birthdays, little sun 🥺🧡🏐 Thank you as always to Andie ( @fireheartaw) for beta-reading, and special thanks to my buddy Miranda for giving this a lookover as well. :’) Further author’s notes can be read on AO3.
It would’ve been nice to say that the next two years passed in a flash, that Shoyo blinked and was suddenly a formidable beach volleyball player with the quick instincts and analysis worthy of someone nicknamed “Ninja.”
But of course that wasn’t the case. Nothing in Rio came easy for him. He had to pull extra hours in his delivery job to live slightly better than “barely making ends meet,” trained his body to crave the foods that would let him play harder for longer, found a delicate balance between his tireless ambition and his own well-being. When he wasn’t working, or on the beach, or in the gym or indoor court, he was studying Portuguese and English, slowly building up his skills to eventually carry out a conversation with Pedro and his beach partners. He had to completely rework the way he approached his goals of improving and aiming for the top, a process that took most of the two years that he was in Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro was unquestionably home to him for those two years. Rio was his home, and the friends he made, Pedro and Heitor and Nice and Lucio and his other teammates across various formal and informal matches, were his family.
But every so often, a very specific, very deep type of loneliness would prick at him. It didn’t matter how good of a week or month he was having. It would creep in randomly and settle under his skin, lingering and itching until he was taken out for a night of clubbing, and he found himself dancing with someone, then kissing someone, then, more often than not, fucking someone. It wasn’t a solution - it was more like slapping a bandage over a gaping wound - but the feeling of skin pressed to skin and moans gasped against his lips would at least chase the itch away for a while.
He knew it wasn’t a solution because he knew what the real solution was. And he knew the solution would be out of reach for as long as he was in Rio. So he fell back on quick fixes, and he could at least enjoy what time he had without getting distracted by the yearning that hibernated in the deepest corner of his mind.
He wondered at times, when prospective partners sought out “Ninja Shoyo,” what his high school self would think of it all. When he’d decided to move to Brazil, it was with his sights set on simply improving his playing, getting good enough at everything that his height wouldn’t even be taken into consideration. He never anticipated having this level of notoriety. He’d figured he had left that all behind in Japan.
Now he was unknown in Japan, the “Greatest Decoy” just a distant memory in the high school volleyball scene, maybe only ever remembered in reference to his and Kageyama’s freak quick. Here, in Brazil, on the beach volleyball circuit of Rio de Janeiro, he was only “Ninja Shoyo,” playing with a reputation that he had built from the ground up and held on his own, without a genius partner to seemingly carry him along.
Sometimes it surprised him, how little he cared about everyone back home hearing about the waves he was making in the Brazilian beach volleyball scene. Maybe it was because he knew it ultimately wouldn’t matter - he would simply make more waves when he got back home. He was confident in his own improvement, and if nothing else, a part of him was a little excited that he’d be returning to no professional record or history. That just meant the improvements he’d made in Brazil would be all the more surprising.
So he worked, and he enjoyed Rio de Janeiro, and two years passed in a series of training sessions and tournaments and dinners and lessons and delivery shifts. His departure from Brazil couldn’t have been more different from his arrival: two years ago, he had stepped foot in a new country, knowing nothing about the people, culture, or language, only the old friend of Coach Washijo. Now, as he walked through airport security, he looked back and waved at his small found family, a group who only made up a fraction of the friends he had made here. And strangely, he didn’t feel sad. He had a feeling he’d make his way back one day.
He dove into tryouts almost as soon as he returned to Japan, and just as he’d thought, the results of his work in Brazil stunned at tryouts. Shoyo killed it at the Black Jackals tryouts, but his new teammates didn’t know that when they saw him at his first practice. Bokuto and Miya were thrilled to see him, and Sakusa just wanted confirmation that Shoyo wasn’t going to repeat his fiasco at his first year Spring Nationals, but Shoyo could tell that they weren’t just feeling happy surprise. They were genuinely bewildered that he was on a Division 1 team.
It was Shoyo’s greatest pleasure to watch their confusion morph into awe, and then genuine excitement to play with him, with each passing practice.
“Geez, Shoyo-kun,” Miya said after practice one day, “what’d they feed you in Brazil? I need ta try it fer myself.”
“What do you mean?” Shoyo asked through his surprised laughter.
“Look atcha! Yer not the little shrimp I played against in high school!”
Shoyo grinned, bashful, at the way Miya gestured at his body. It was easy to forget through his two years of sand and sun and honing his body into peak condition, but compared to high school, he realized with a jolt just how much he’d changed. “I guess the beach did a number on me,” he laughed, rubbing at the back of his neck.
“It sure did. Good fer you, seriously.”
“What are you, his father?”
“Aw, Omi Omi, if ya want me to admire your hot bod, ya just hafta ask!”
As he watched Sakusa and Miya distract each other with their bickering, Shoyo found himself, for the very first time, feeling thankful that someone’s eyes weren’t on him. That way, no one saw the pleased tilt of his smile as he continued packing his things away.
When he’d first joined the Black Jackals, Shoyo knew he had a slim, if not nonexistent, chance of making first string. It sucked to think about, but it did make sense: this was his debut season, after being in Brazil for two years. That meant there was no record of his playing, no one on this side of the Pacific who had seen his improvement since high school in an actual game.
That didn’t stop him from throwing himself into every single practice. First string or not, he was still on a Division One team, playing with some of the best players in the V.League and hitting tosses from one of the best setters in the country. Within his first week, he was already hitting minus tempo tosses from Miya, who couldn’t stop laughing with delight after their first successful go at it. “Man oh man, I’ve been dyin’ ta try that with ya, Shoyo-kun!”
“Me too, Atsumu-san!”
“What,” he suddenly heard in English from the side of the court, “was that?” He turned to see Coach Foster staring at him and Miya with a stunned expression and an eager glimmer in his eye.
“Oh, yeah, you don’t know about the freak quick!” Miya chuckled. Shoyo still wasn’t used to how good his English was. “Shoyo was famous for it in high school. He and Kageyama were called the Freak Twins because they were the only ones who could do it. Except for me and ‘Samu, of course.”
“Only because you copied us during our first match against each other,” Shoyo said in English with a bright laugh.
“And no one else ever managed to!”
Miya was right, but that wasn’t going to stop Shoyo from retorting with a smile. What did stop him was Coach Foster suddenly speaking up. “Does anyone else know you two can do that?”
Shoyo blinked. “Um…people might remember us doing it in high school? But not with each other. This is our first time on the same team.”
He was already coming to recognize the look Coach Foster got when he had a good idea. He tended to have a lot of them. “Good…good.”
——————————————————————————————————
“Hey, Shoyo-kun.”
Shoyo peeked out from under his towel to see Miya laying on the locker room bench and staring at the ceiling, oblivious (or maybe just apathetic) to the annoyed looks he was earning from Sakusa and Inunaki. “Yeah?”
“Does it feel weird? Doin’ the freak quick without Kageyama?”
It was an innocent question. A fair one, even. But that didn’t stop Shoyo’s heart from clenching painfully, forcing him to take a moment before replying. “A little. I guess it helps that I’ve already gotten used to not being on the same team as him. But I think I still miss…playing with him. He was my first setter, so.”
“Oh, yer first setter, huh?”
Shoyo felt his cheeks warm at Miya’s knowing grin. “…Why do you ask?”
Miya’s grin widened, but in a surprising act of mercy, he didn’t comment on Shoyo’s pathetic attempt at diverting. “Well, it’s my first time tossin’ a freak quick to someone besides ‘Samu. I’m used ta not playin’ with him anymore, but it still feels weird ta do that specific move without him, y’know?”
“Yeah,” Shoyo murmured, staring sightlessly into his locker. “Yeah, I know.”
He didn’t know how long he stood there, lost in thought, but he didn’t come back to himself until Miya suddenly sat up with a loud clap of his hands. “Well! If it feels weird to us when we’re practicin’ it, imagine how surprisin’ it’ll be ta the other teams when we actually use it in a game!”
“You really think I’ll be playing in a real game this season?”
“You saw the look on Coach’s face when we did the freak quick fer the first time. Maybe ya won’t be first string, but yer definitely gonna play!”
Any bittersweet nostalgia prickling through Shoyo was washed away by a wave of anticipation, and he met Miya’s cocky smirk with a wide smile of his own. It’d been a possibility he’d thought about before, with the same ambition that made him aim for Nationals in his first year of playing volleyball. But it was one thing to silently aim for it, and something else entirely to have someone else, especially a player with high standards like Miya, to voice the possibility out loud. “Wow! I’ll do my best!”
“‘Course ya will. Ya wouldn’t be on this team if ya did anything less.”
Miya was right about Coach Foster’s fascination with the freak quick. A coach of his caliber and experience would never show a great preference to a certain move nor certain players, but there was no mistaking the gleam in his eye when Shoyo and Miya worked on it during solo practice.
It wasn’t just the freak quick - Shoyo’s experience with being on a beach volleyball team of two made him one of the more formidable opponents during three-on-threes, and during practice matches, he could zip around the court and bait certain attacks out of the other team without them even realizing what he was doing. It was rare for a practice to end without Coach Foster complimenting something he’d done or offering advice on how to make a maneuver even better, always with that gleam in his eye. It made hope bloom like a fragile flower in Shoyo’s chest, the possibility of playing in a game seeming more and more likely with each passing week.
And then the match-ups for the first games of the season were released, and Shoyo’s hope turned into a need.
“The Schweiden Adlers?” Bokuto read out from Miya’s phone. “Wait, that means we’re playing against Ushijima and Romero!”
“In our first game of the season,” Miya groaned as Sakusa leaned over his shoulder to read the rest of the match-ups. “Talk about hittin’ the ground runnin’.”
“Scared of a challenge, Miya?”
“If I were, I wouldn’t be on a team with a grouch like you.” Miya smiled sweetly at the unimpressed look Sakusa gave him, before his eyes flickered over to Shoyo. “Shoyo-kun, isn’t Kageyama on that team, too?”
Shoyo looked up from tying his shoes to shoot what he hoped was a convincing smile at Miya. “He is! He’s been with them since entering the V.League.” His heart rate had picked up with every word said about their first match, until it was as quick as a rabbit’s and made his entire body feel warm.
This was it. This was it. This was the reason he’d been working for three years. He never imagined it would come so quickly, and he wasn’t sure if it was anticipation or an unusual anxiety making his blood feel electric in his veins.
“Hoshiumi’s on the team as well,” Sakusa noted, breaking Shoyo out of his thoughts.
“Wow, Hinata!” Bokuto said, his eyes somehow getting wider than usual, “you’re gonna be playing against your rival and your former setter! That’s like…that’s like if I had to play against Keiji and Ushijima!”
He didn’t seem to notice the inscrutable look Sakusa was pinning him under until the rookie spoke up. “You…you are playing against Ushijima-san.”
“Yeah, but not with Keiji setting!”
“Akaashi-san isn’t…he doesn't play professionally.”
“I knowwww!” The excitement on Bokuto’s face morphed into a pout with alarming speed. “I still think he should’ve gone pro, but then I’d be super sad if he played on a different team, but I also like your tosses, Tsumtsum, so—”
“And I like tossin’ for ya, Bokkun,” Miya managed to cut in, ending Bokuto’s infatuated ramblings with an ease that spoke to the extra time they’d had together on the team. “Let’s make sure ya use those tosses to beat the Adlers, yeah?”
Bokuto grinned as he slapped Miya’s offered hand, while Sakusa simply stood there and watched it all happen with a deep exhaustion that even his mask couldn’t hide. His eyes flickered to Shoyo, who was biting his lip against the laughs that were already shaking his shoulders. That seemed to be the last straw - without another word, Sakusa readjusted the mask over his nose, slung his bag over his shoulder, and made his way to the locker room exit.
“Aw, Omi-kun, don’t go!” Miya called when he caught the spiker leaving. “You don’t hafta be jealous! I promise Bokkun won’t get all of my tosses!” Sakusa just shot a crude gesture over his shoulder before the door swung shut behind him, leaving Miya cackling on the bench.
“You’re so mean, Atsumu-san,” Shoyo laughed.
“Aw, he knows I’m jokin’.” Miya tucked his phone into his jacket pocket as he stood up and finished grabbing his own things. “Hey, Shoyo-kun, think Coach Foster’ll putcha in if ya tell him about yer history with Kageyama and Hoshiumi? It’d be a helluva publicity stunt.” He spread his hands out in the air, reading off of an invisible marquee. “The Monster Generation continues ta grow! Old rivalries and alliances come to the V.League!”
“Nah, I don’t want him to know,” Shoyo said, laughter still coloring his voice. “If he puts me in, I want it to be because of my playing and nothing else!”
“That’s the spirit.” With a final grin and a ruffle to Shoyo’s hair, Miya took his leave.
Shoyo hadn’t been lying - he really did want to play for his hard-earned skills, without any gimmicks or added publicity - but he also felt a new fire burn in him with the news of their first match. This was it. This was his chance to stand on a court with Kageyama for the first time since high school, and show him everything that he’d gained in Brazil. He’d prove that his time playing beach volleyball…and his decision to end things with Kageyama…was all worth it.
He was going to play in that game. He didn’t hope for it. He needed it.
Still, when he’d imagined playing in the match, he’d assumed that he would be substituted in every so often to take advantage of the freak quick and throw the Adlers off of their rhythm. He wasn’t the only rookie on the team that year, but while Sakusa had managed to make a name for himself in the collegiate leagues, Shoyo was a completely blank slate in Japan. He could tell he had impressed Coach Foster in his brief time on the team, but he didn’t assume that would be enough. There was always something he could improve, especially when he shared a position with a player like Barnes.
Then as Coach Foster called Shoyo over after practice, and Shoyo noticed Barnes standing with him, he felt a sharp spike of hope. “Hey, Coach!”
“Hey, Hinata.” Coach Foster exchanged a look with Barnes, before resting a hand on Shoyo’s shoulder. “So. Here’s the thing. You’re an incredible player. We’ve always known that - you wouldn’t be on the team if you weren’t. But we also knew nothing about you outside of what we saw at try-outs.”
Shoyo just nodded, his brows creasing the slightest bit despite his smile staying put.
“That’s changed in the past few months. I can’t remember the last time I saw a player who could move around a court like you, much less jump to your heights nor trick the other team so well. Add to that the freak quick you’ve got with Miya, and even I can’t tell what trick you’re going to pull from your sleeve.”
“And that’s…good, right?” Coach Foster wasn’t one for speeches like this, and Shoyo was getting more confused about what his aim was with every word he said.
“Yeah! You’re damn right it’s good!” his coach laughed with a gentle shake of his shoulder. “It’s so good, in fact, that Barnes and I got to talking, and…we want you to be the starting opposite at our first official match this season.”
Shoyo felt the smile slide off his face, leaving him staring stunned at Coach Foster and Barnes. “...What?”
It was like his smile had deserted him to stretch across Barnes’ face instead. “Listen, kid, the only reason we have any idea of what you’re capable off is because we’ve been seeing you at practice basically everyday for the past few months. The Adlers have nothing to work off of when it comes to you. You’re a completely blank slate, and you’re a jack of all trades. You could very well be our best chance at beating those guys.”
“But…but they have my old setter. He’ll remember what my playing is like.” Shoyo was just thinking out loud, still taken completely off-guard by the news.
“Has he played with you since high school?”
“No…”
“Well then.” Coach Foster looked both satisfied and a little bemused. “Do you…not want to be a starter?”
“No! I mean, yes!” Shoyo stammered. “Of course I do! This is…this is a huge honor, sir, thank you.”
“Just doing what I think will be best for the team, as I’m sure you will, too.” The coach gave him a warm, reassuring smile, and that was enough to coax a smile back onto Shoyo’s face.
This was real. What the coach said was real. He was going to be in the starting lineup at his very first V.League game. And it would be against Kageyama. It would’ve seemed too good to be true, if Shoyo hadn’t worked so hard for this. As it was, he felt like he was floating on his way back to the locker room, and whatever expression he had on his face was enough to draw Bokuto’s attention. “Woah, Hinata, you look like you got some good news!”
“I did.” His cheeks ached from how wide his smile had grown. “I’m gonna be the starting opposite for the Adlers game!”
There was a beat of silence as his teammates stared at him in shock. And then, all at once—
“What?”
“Holy shit, Shoyo-kun!”
“Is Barnes injured?”
“No,” Shoyo answered, turning towards Sakusa. “He actually decided on this with Coach Foster! They both agreed it’d be good to take advantage of how unknown I am in the V.League.”
Sakusa nodded, silent as he took in the information. “I see,” he eventually said. “Well, congratulations.”
Shoyo didn’t have a chance to say “thank you” before Miya and Bokuto descended on him. “Look at you!” Miya cheered, ruffling Shoyo’s hair. “Mr. Unknown is makin’ his V.League debut as a starting opposite! The Adlers won’t know what hit ‘em!”
“I knew you could do it!” Bokuto slung an arm around Shoyo’s shoulders and gave him a shake. “You’re gonna be amazing, Hinata-kun!”
“Thank you!” Shoyo said breathlessly.
Word traveled quickly. Shoyo thought he was already being pretty efficient about telling his friends and family about his debut, but he still ended up getting phone calls from people he hadn’t told yet. Every day was filled with practice and errands and training, punctuated with a phone call from Sugawara and Sawamura, or Yachi, or Yamaguchi (and a grudging Tsukishima), or the Tanakas, or any other old friend.
Game day almost snuck up on him, or it would have if he hadn’t marked it on his kitchen calendar with every highlighter he had. It still felt like barely any time had passed since his addition to the starting lineup, but there he was, boarding the team bus to make the trip from Osaka to Miyagi.
Stepping into the Sendai City Gymnasium felt like a homecoming - memories waited for him around every corner, right down to the smell of Air Salonpas that had always scented their high school tournaments.
The memories brought on by the smell of Air Salonpas, and the sight of that funny gold art piece on the wall, and the feel of the wood floors beneath his feet, were nothing compared to what awaited him when he headed to the bathroom. He should’ve known better - in all his years of high school, he never had an uneventful bathroom trip in this gym. Why would that have changed with time?
“Not gonna have any bowel issues today, are you?”
Electricity zipped up Shoyo’s spine. Three years of occasional awkward phone calls couldn’t have prepared him for the effect hearing that voice in person would have on him. He immediately felt both settled and on-edge, brought back down to earth and sent floating amongst the clouds. He didn’t fight the smile that pulled at his lips as he turned around and looked into eyes that glimmered like the night sky.
They weren’t even on the court yet, but certainty still settled firm within him: it was all worth it. The break-up, the move, the years overseas playing a new sport, all of it. It was all worth it for this: standing on equal ground with his fated rival, strongest ally, and first love, and see those lips curve into a small, rare grin. Ambition and eagerness and pride shone from those handsome features, and behind it all, Shoyo thought that maybe, just maybe, there was some affection peeking through as well.
This wasn’t the world stage. He still had a little further to go before he could reach those heights.
But as he stood there and watched Kageyama raise his chin with a glint in his eye, Shoyo felt like he already held the world in the palm of his hand.

[for my personal use to keep track and close tabs from my browser. But, feel free to read them as well ( ^ω^ ) Contains my fave lines or quotes from the fic, will update regularly hehe ★〜]
Legend:
♡彡 ~ Timeless Personal Favorite
★彡 ~ Favorite
★彡 play me like a movie (that you’ve never seen) by lunarins (G, 13.2k, 1 ch, entertainment industry au)
Blurb: It’s not that Atsumu doesn’t get along with Sakusa Kiyoomi. Miya Atsumu is someone who gets along with everyone. He’s an idol, after all. They just…well, they just don’t really get along.
Fave Quote: “Sakusa Kiyoomi and I are very good friends,,
Personal Note: Okie, paying homage to the first Sakuatsu fic I have read. Cut to me not knowing how to navigate AO3 that much and just looking up the haikyuu tag and coming across this fic *wheeze*. It was really cute and I was hooked, led me to the rest of these fics and I’m never looking back. Really cute, fluff and all (*´꒳`*).
♡彡 Four Vlogs and a Wedding by lettersinpetals (T, 15.6k, 4 ch, canon, pt 3 of this love isn’t crazy series)
Blurb: Sakusa and Atsumu go road tripping in California. What could go wrong?
Fave Quote: (Atsumu, ch 2) “When I say I cried, I mean I f*cking cried. And then...I fell to my knees and practically begged him to marry me,, (Kiyoomi, ch 3) “To those who are inevitably going to ask, ‘Have you gone insane? Were you two drunk?’ I want you to know that I made this decision with eyes wide open,,
Personal Note: Alright this fic— I advise that you read the series in order to get the full effect. This is pt 3 out of 4 in the series [link with title]— this fic has and still remains my favorite Sakuatsu fic I have read, ever. When I think of them, I think of this. I have cried reading almost every chapter. No regrets (*´∀`*). CHAPTER 3, GUYS CHAPTER 3, I swear I cried the most there. The writer, lettersinpetals, if u have tumblr pls I want to send u my regards <33, you have every right when being that good AAAA kudos kudos!! PLS, I WANT WHAT THEY HAVE >_< Though shorter, this barred a little bit higher than my other timeless fave “ATSU101: how to fall in love with your fake boyfriend”. For the quote, I couldn’t pick just one. But, the ones above really just sunk to me. Luv luv luv this fic, could and would read it anytime, how many number of times, and it wouldn’t get old. Pls send it and the author some love (*^ω^*).
♡彡 ATSU101: how to fall in love with your fake boyfriend by solyn (M, 110.6k, 11 ch, university au)
Blurb: Atsumu needs a fake date. Sakusa needs a fake boyfriend. What could possibly go wrong?
Fave Quote: “Kyoomi, d’ya trust me?,, “Yes,,
Personal Note: This fic *clap* I just can’t— omg. Though it is a (very) slow burn, it was very enjoyable to read. It was really hard choosing my fave quote cause there are a LOT. But, I think what I have chosen encapsulated the fic as a whole (to me). Definite must read!
The Story of Us by thesweetestners (M, 98.2k, 11 ch, canon)
Blurb: Atsumu has spent the last year falling in love with Sakusa Kiyoomi, but it's a secret they've never told anybody else. When a car accident snatches Omi's memories from the past two years away, Atsumu is left as the only one in the world who ever knew their relationship existed.
Fave Quote: “Ya remember my team motto, right? I don’t need the memories,,
Personal Note: I AM DECEASED. I— i cried a lot. It actually took me a while to get to this for fear of the plot, like the blurb sounds so good but idk there was a fear of me reading it. Actually, as i look back, its probably the angst tag that scared me HAHAAHHA but im so glad i did read it. Would recommend if you want to cry. Especially the last 2 chapters \(//∇//)\
The MSBY Black Jackals Read Thirst Tweets by isaksara (syailendra) (M, 11.4k, 2 ch, canon)

Fave Quote: “It’s you, it’s always been you,,

Fave Quote: “Can I put one in your hair?,,
all my life, been wanting this forever by comfortcharacters (T, 1.0k, 1 ch, canon)
Blurb: Nothing seemed to be out of place. Except, of course, for the small fact of Atsumu facing his own personal hell come to life, taking the form of one Sakusa Kiyoomi perched happily in his lap.
Fave Quote: “Atsumu, does it look like I care?,,
Call Me Maybe by kitkatwrites (T, 1.8k, 1 ch, ER visit au)
Blurb: “What caused your nosebleed?” Dr. Sakusa asks, typing something into a computer next to him.
“M’ brother smacked me in the face with a Wii controller,” Atsumu tells him. “We were playing Just Dance 4,” he adds.
Dr. Sakusa raises an eyebrow. “What song?” He asks, and suddenly Atsumu feels very awkward.

have my heart, my love by samugiiri (1.7k, 1 ch, canon songfic)
Blurb: “Mm, Omi?” The setter’s voice is muffled by the spiker’s shirt as the former buries his head into the latter’s chest. Kiyoomi gives a soft hum in reply and Atsumu continues speaking.
“This song reminds me of us.”
“How so?”
“Listen ta the lyrics, Omi!”

The news has been confirmed by Sakusa's agency Itachiyama, who had just recently released a schedule of the author's promotional schedule.
According to Oikawa, Sakusa will also be joined by another guest but the identity of the guest will remain a secret. "The guest is someone we're all big fans of," the talk show host reveals. "But that's all I'm going to be saying about the topic because I don't want to spoil the fun."

Blurb: Their nightly outings have taught Atsumu three things. 1. Bokuto Koutarou has a liver of steel and trying to outdrink him will result in alcohol poisoning (see subject no. 1, Hinata Shoyo, for proof). 2. Meian Shugo is a highly coordinated volleyball player but can’t get his head out of his ass long enough to actually land a shot in pool. 3. Sakusa Kiyoomi is a happy drunk.
Or: Atsumu learns that Sakusa has dimples
Fave Quote: “Thank you Bokkun for sendin’ me into the early stages of liver failure.” ( it’s not sappy, but this one is just hilarious XD )
Curiousity killed the Jackal by yamaguchis_ahoge (T, 2.6k, 1 ch, canon)
Blurb: “Oh sh*t.” Atsumu exclaims, panicked look on his face. Bokuto cocks his head to the side,
“What?” Atsumu pulls at the ring on his finger, it doesn’t budge.
“I can’t take it off!” He whispers, though there’s no one to reprimand them. Hinata’s eyes widen,
“Take it off.” He says, unhelpfully. Atsumu scowls,
“I can’t! I just told ya! It’s stuck.” He whines.

Blurb: “I think we’re done here, thank you, Osamu. If we could just have the bill?”
As though waiting for those words, Osamu removed a small square of paper from his pocket.
And leaned over to slam the paper down on the table in front of Sakusa. “You’re paying tonight.”
“What?”, Atsumu squawked, his eyebrows traveling further up his forehead. “Why?”
“He knows why.”
Fave Quote: “Maybe they’re involved in something shady. You know, like the mafia,,

Sakusa Kiyoomi is the type of man to stand near you in the subway in order to keep a creepy guy from approaching you. He’s always trying to better himself and learn more about experiences of women and the lgbtq community, and he just so happens to hate call her daddy. He can smell misogyny on a man from miles away, and always calls his teammates out on their bullshit. He hates tiktok but enjoys watching all the no nuance November ones, and he secretly enjoys watching astrology ones. He even made one about volleyball on his secret account but deleted it after it reached 50 likes because he got nervous. Sakusa kiyoomi is so clever and is literally the funniest person ever, if you actually know him for him. He holds the small coffee shop around the corner from his apartment close to his heart, not because the coffee is all that, but because the small old woman who owns it reminds him of his grandmother(she’s really one of the only people he’ll peck on the cheek). For some reason he can’t smile for a camera without looking awkward but if you catch him naturally laughing at something, it’s a treat and a half.

@pridewon,   continued from this.
they still don’t give an acknowledgement,   just completely content with doing things themselves.    always have;   but this guy.   he sure is persistent.   it’s honestly annoying.   though there’s a tick tock of a thought process in his brain that this is a team game;  working with your spiker to help the timing of how fast or slow you want the ball,   tall or short.    they can’t read minds,   which is very unfortunate because he really doesn’t want to be in the same room as atsumu miya any longer than he has to.    and all this was seemingly computing in his brain in a two second span decision on whether or not to entertain the idea that they would let him help spike outside of practice.
Tumblr media
with a thumb pausing over their screen,   the only grace that he’s heard his voice is narrowed eyes.    “  a wall is more competent than you.     .  .  .   your sets are unpredictable,   abrasive even  ——    but they’re also accurate and timely;   a perfect mold that embodies your teammates skills,   a push to what they need to score.  ”    an insult and a compliment all in the same sentence.    then he releases a sigh,   body fully turning towards him with blank eyes while putting his phone back in their pocket.    there’s no way he’s offering this freely out of the goodness of his heart.    regardless,   they will play into his hands.    not like they care anyways.
they’re not the one to baited by taunts,   but it’s something how it’s irritating to try and woe his way.    obnoxious as hell.
“  fine.    but if you half  -  ass this opportunity,   i will leave.   got it?  ”
