"I've gotta make Charlie a saint!"
Stephen James Patrick McGuire had seen some shit in his years on earth. But seeing his cousin, Mac, as he had always been one to call her was understandably losing her fucking mind. The one man she'd pledged her very soul to had died nearly two miles from home, alone on a desolate stretch of road. The happy home they had crammed with memories was now in shambles as Mac howled about saints and an unfair god and how fucked the world was. Her Jim Croce albums were smashed to bits, the clocks were stopped all at 6:45 along with the mirrors being covered. There used to be mass amounts of photos scattered around the place, they were packed away living in a box somewhere in the attic. Stevie was wracking his brain as to what would have made Mac lose her grip on sanity at the moment. He'd been very careful to orchestrate a mini getaway for his cousin with his Aunt's help. The circle of family and chosen family as his cousin had always referred to those she held dear were understandably worried for her as she tried to forge ahead with life without her husband. His cousin was the one that always beat up the neighborhood bullies for him before his growth spurt when they were kids. She was Stevie's first defender and biggest cheerleader. He'd had a stutter when they were kids and she'd sucker punched Jimmy Dugan and Frank Flannery for making fun of him. The stutter made it impossible for him to pronounce her name even though he had practiced it endlessly but when he held her, or rather Aunt Min helped, he proudly dubbed her 'His Mac.'
'You're like the brother I never got to have. Doesn't matter who was born first.'
"Mac...Here..C'mere and sit down please."
Gently he grabbed a blanket form the couch and wrapped it around her slender, almost boney arms and pulled her in for a hug before leading her to sit down with him on the overstuffed couch in the new cavernous living room.
"I wanna make him a saint..Stevie...how can I do that?"
Her grip tightened on his shirt as she clung to him with every ounce of strength she had left. Hot tears soaked through as he tried his best to hold himself together. Somewhere in his jumble of an office he had a scrapbook of photos from snapshots he had taken on his adventures when she had given him a start in the Jam band. Thanks to her and Charlie, who he could still remember popping up for Thanksgiving one year and just never leaving, he had been the completion of Mac's other half entirely. Stevie often wondered if there was a woman out there like that for him but he didn't kid himself. What Mac and Charlie had was pure magic to watch.
"I'm pretty sure we'd have to call Rome and get in touch with the Pope."
'I gotta work a damn miracle, Stevie. I took the Lord's name in vain too many times to count, I was anything but pure. You remember, Reno.'
To his left he could have sworn he'd heard Charlie.
'You damn well did, man.'
A wiggle of long nimble fingers caught Stevie's attention as his eyes bugged. Charlie was just sitting in his easy chair proud as he pleased giving him that dopey grin and all.
'I never hit her once or talked mean to her. No, there was a dalliance or two on my part and boy did I catch hell and then some from her but she loved me entirely. Forgave me and we worked through our shit together. I love her, man. Entirely, too...'
Mac was still sobbing to herself hiccuping at this point, now that he noticed she smelled of weed and whisky, not her usual glass of wine at home. He had never known his cousin to be a heavy drinker, that particular trait fell to their Aunt Prudence, to see her this way broke his heart.
'We worked our shit out and now I'm gone. We were hoping to start a family of our own come the spring and here we are...or should I say aren't? Take care of her for me, Stevie. Just help her be happy...I'll just keep my end of things up and keep an eye on you two crazy clover lovers.'
"It's a shamrock actually."
Was Stevie's mumbled reply as he nodded to whatever was sitting in that L-z-Boy. In a blink Charlie was gone and Mac was now snoring softly on his shoulder almost ready to slump into a position she'd be sorry for in the morning. Moving her gently he tucked the blankets around her and ensured that she was safe before setting a glass of water and a note out. He was staying in the cabin down the lane, had been off and on for about two years after his divorce from Tanya. Charlie and Mac had given him the only sense of stability he'd ever known in his adult years.
'I just want her to be happy, Stevie. Tell her.'
"I'm trying man but...Charlie she's shattered. I dunno if she'll be ok. You were her world."
Out on the back deck overlooking a rolling hill leading to the babbling brook below the sound of water calmed Stevie for a moment. He'd been on autopilot on the walk back and had somehow made himself an Irish coffee. Peering down into the ashtray he spotted a hand roll left from Colleen's last visit. Their talks were spur of the moment and often lengthy and Mac always came prepared.
'She'll be just fine, Stevie. Please tell her to be happy..'
Flicking his lighter Stevie Mcguire did something he hadn't done in nearly a decade. Got into his cousin's stash.
"I'll do my best."
Taking a deep drag, his first mistake was thinking he was smoking a cigarette, and promptly coughed so hard he nearly felt like he was going to vomit.
'Ya always were a lightweight when it came to that stuff, Stevie. Little hits.'
"How the hell she do this every day?"
A deep chuckle from inside his head made him momentarily smile thinking of his brother in law sitting in one of the Adarondack chairs.
'She's had more practice at it than you have. While you were gettin' drunk she was gettin' stoned.'
Another deep drag, his second mistake of the night with the damned joint. Another fit of heaving coughs. Eyes watering Stevie felt the need to simply sit down for a moment criss cross apple sauce on the deck as he stared up at the stars sipping on his coffee.
"Third fuckin' mistake. How much did I put in there?"
'Calm down it's only a little glug. Take another toke you'll be ok.'
Somewhere inside the cabin the stereo came on, flicked the dial on it's own and Charlie was gone in a wave of radio static.
'So listen honey wherever you are tonight I wish you the best of everything in the world and honey I hope you found whatever you were lookin' for. Yeah it's over before you know it it all goes by so fast.'
The last song on the last album Charlie released came on and then sputtered out. The roadside map was open and the page settled onto New England. Col and Stevie's home state.
"Looks like Mac had better pack a bag or two. We're headed back east for a while."

Your baby sister, Madilyn, is the textbook definition of an angel. Of course she has her moments, she’s a kid, but for the most part, she’s the best tiny human ever. Which is why you had no problems looking after her while your parents were on their anniversary trip for the weekend.
The two of you were on the sofa watching Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown while dinner was finishing on the stove. Ending the day with dumb cartoons and your favorite human was a win in your book.
Suddenly, the phone rang drawing your attention away from the television. A part of you wanted to ignore it, but if it was your parents and they had to call again, you’d get a never ending earful. Approaching the blush pink landline on the wall you answer it.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Babydoll,” your boyfriend’s smooth voice sounded over the receiver. You leaned against the wall, a smile playing on your lips.
“Hi, Stevie,” your voice sounded breather than anticipated. Even after almost two years together, Steve Harrington still makes you feel like a girl with an elementary school crush.
Introducing Steve, Hawkins’ resident rich boy, to your family was nerve-wracking. The day he picked you up for your first date, you opened the door with a then two-year-old Madilyn on your hip. She shied away and hid half of her face in your neck. After greeting you with a kiss on the cheek he turned to the girl in your arms, “Is this little Madilyn that likes Care Bears?” he asked excitedly and the rest is history.
Your baby sister successfully stole your boyfriend.
But there are no hard feelings because watching the two of them interact with each other is a beautiful sight. Steve’s patience and ability to keep up with the toddler’s often nonsensical rambles, make you firmly believe that he would make a great father; hopefully to your own kids someday.
“How’s babysitting going?”
“It’s been good, you know Maddie’s a good kid,” you shrugged watching the little girl curled up on the couch with her stuffed bunny.
“Mm,” he hummed as he exhaled, “You two want company? Or is it strictly sister bonding time?”
“Hm, I think the kid and I can go for a night with our favorite guy,” your smile widened as you twirled the coiled line around your finger.
“Well in that case, I’ll see you in 10.”
“Steve…you live twenty minutes away,” you said skeptically.
“Like I said, 10 minutes— I love you,” you could practically hear the smile on his face.
“I love you too and please drive safely,” sincerity coating your words. With a promise to see each other soon, you hang up and join your sister on the couch.
Maddie shifted over to curl into your side. You looked down at the girl and squished her closer. Becoming a big sister is easily one of the best things to happen to you. Sure fourteen year old you was skeptical and a little jealous about your first sibling, but as soon as you held the newborn in your arms for the first time, you knew you would do anything for her.
A loud knock on the door had you both alert and looking toward the front hallway. Upon opening the door, you were met with a very sexy looking Steve Harrington. His sunglasses were perched on his nose and the yellow Polo shirt was unbuttoned showcasing his chest hair. He smiled cockily and removed his sunglasses, “you can eye fuck me inside, doll,” he pushed past you and into the house. Closing and locking the door for you, Steve wound his arm around your waist and pulled you into a deep kiss.
“Hi.”
“Hi,” you smiled before pressing another short kiss to his lips. Taking him by the hand, you walked back into the living room. “Maddie, look who’s here!” you caught the girl’s attention. Propping herself up on the back of the sofa, she smiled widely and waved her hand so fast, it was just a blur.
“Hi, Steve!” she said excitedly. She held out her arms, her bunny long forgotten, and Steve scooped her up and gave her a big hug.
“Hi Mads, how was your day?” he asked. That led to her talking a mile a minute, not leaving a single detail out about her day.
The timer starts to ring and you walk over to the stove to turn off the burner. You stirred the hot pot of jambalaya, the smell making your mouth water.
You poked your head back into the living room, “You two. Table. Now please,” you hollered over their conversation. Their voices carried into the dining room and Steve helped Maddie into her booster seat. You sat her plate and a cup of watered down apple juice in front of her. Bringing in yours and Steve's plates, you all sat down together and continued to chat over your meal. Every so often either you or Steve had to remind her to finish chewing before talking.
After finishing up dinner, you took Maddie up for a bath and wrapped her hair up for the night. She still had about an hour left before her bedtime so you brought her back down to finish her movie.
When you got back to the kitchen, Steve was putting away the clean and dried dishes. After putting the last of them away you took ahold of his hands and pulled him into you.
“You didn’t have to clean up, I could’ve done it.”
“You were already getting Mads ready for bed, It’s the least I could do,” he shrugged. You smiled, guiding him back to the living room where you were gonna watch the rest of the movie until you saw Maddie knocked out on the couch, soft snores escaping from her. Letting go of your hand, Steve picked the sleeping girl up while you turned off the tv and all the lights then you two walked her up the stairs. You pulled back the sheets and Steve laid her down. You tucked her in with her bunny, leaving a kiss on her forehead.
Retreating from her room as quietly as possible, you two made it back to your room and began getting yourselves ready for bed. Slipping underneath the cool sheets, you and Steve settled in together. “Thank you for coming over, I really do appreciate it,” you smiled, giving him a kiss on the back of his hand.
“Of course,” he returned the kiss to one of your hands, “I need the practice anyway.”
“Practice for…?” you asked. Steve pulled you into his chest, his hand lightly gripping your hip.
“The six kids I dreamt of running around our house. You in a pretty little dress baking fucking cinnamon rolls with our girls while the boys wrestle in the living room.”
“What if the boys wanna bake and the girls wanna wrestle?” you smirked, hooking your leg over his hip.
“Doesn’t matter, as long as our kids,” he took your hand and kissed your bare ring finger, “and my wife are happy and healthy.”
You felt the heat building in your face as a smile played on your lips. “Mm, being acknowledged as ‘Mrs. Harrington’ does sound pretty great.”
“Hell yeah it does, sweetheart,” he kissed you deeply. A knock on the door forced you to break the kiss off sooner than you would’ve liked. The door opened and Maddie poked her head into the room.
“You okay Mads?” you sat up.
“Can I sleep in here?” she rubbed her eye, still sleepy.
“Of course, baby girl,” you pulled the sheets back so she could crawl in between the two of you. Getting her settled, she quickly fell back asleep, stuffed bunny tucked in her arms. You adjusted her bonnet and slightly adjusted the comforter, knowing she hates having her face covered. When you finally looked back at Steve his eyes were already on you.
“I love you,” he mouthed so as not to wake the sleeping child between the two of you.
“I love you too,” you replied.
Soon all of your breaths evened out and you all slept through the night. Even with a four year old beating you up in her sleep.

Chapter one - Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl
Series masterlist
Pairing: Dieter Bravo x ofc, bi!f!reader x ofc (eventual dieter bravo x reader x ofc)
Warnings: Nothing major for this part. Breakup angst, alcohol, jealousy, pining, cursing, not enough Dieter in this part sorrrry.
Word Count: 2.3k
Summary: After a bad breakup, a phone call with your newly married best friend leaves you with an interesting opportunity.
A/N: This one goes out to all my bi babes. There's a lot of set up here, but stick with me and I promise this story gets interesting real quick.
Tumblr media
The third glass of the bottom shelf wine you’d picked up a few hours ago goes down a lot smoother than the first two. A bloom of flavour in your throat that warms what otherwise feels numb.
Your fingers twitch as you glance down at your phone, aching to look at Charlie’s Instagram one more time - just to make sure she’s okay, you rationalise. Make sure she’s not fallen into a well, or been abducted by aliens or something.
You kind of hope she has been.
Stevie Nicks sings Landslide through the tinny Bluetooth speaker on your coffee table, and you hum to the song that makes tears well in your eyes. Charlie hates this song, but since Charlie is now your ex and all her belongings had vanished from your home this morning it doesn’t really matter. She’d hate the wine too. You have to remember it doesn’t matter.
An errant tear slips from your eye - definitely because of Stevie and not Charlie - and as if on cue your phone buzzes loudly making you jump. A splash of wine lands on your couch. This week really isn’t working out for you.
A look at the phone screen makes you roll your eyes. The photo that comes up with the call is of you and Eva, your best friend for longer than you can even recall. You’re both wrapped in each other's arms and smiling wide, stupid toothy grins as you pose outside the modelling agency in LA that had signed her on for her first big break.
Eva was destined to be a model, really. She’d always been ‘pretty’; all curves, warm beige skin that practically glowed, entrancing chestnut eyes and long dark hair that fell in natural waves. But in high school she’d transformed from pretty to gorgeous seemingly overnight.
From that moment on no one ever forgot Eva.
She was more to you, though. To you she’d always been beautiful. Always. For a long time you’d passed the twist in your stomach when you looked at her for too long off as jealousy, but how could you ignore the stutter of your heart when she smiled at you a certain way? The more you two grew together, the more perfect she seemed to become. The more you wanted to look at her, spend time with her, be in her radiant presence.
Not that her looks mattered. Eva was kind, fun and a little goofy. She liked stupid slapstick comedies and she crocheted silly little animals in her spare time. You had a frog on your dresser she’d made for you years ago. She cared deeply about so much, and she always fought for what she believed in and what she wanted. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone when she’d jetted off to LA several years ago to live her dreams out, then.
Of course no one is truly perfect, which is why you’re currently staring at your phone as it rings again and again, debating whether to pick up. Eva had always been drastically spontaneous and had a history of bad decisions. Usually harmless to anyone but her (the name of a one night stand permanently etched on her hip comes to mind), but two weeks ago she’d made what you could only see as the worst decision of her life.
You sigh, place down your wine glass and finally answer the phone.
“Hi Eva” you grumble down the line, turning the music off so you can hear her.
“You didn’t call me back last week” She offers instead of a greeting. You can hear something in the background that makes your eye twitch, a man’s voice and the clink of a glass.
You'd found out about this particularly bad decision not from your best friend, but from the noisy article on some dumb celebrity gossip website that had somehow made its way onto your timeline.
And you'd scoffed when you looked at the caption because of course Dieter Bravo had gotten married on a whim in some corny Vegas chapel, but then you had to do a double take upon seeing the picture of his bride; dolled up in a simple white dress that made her skin glow, platform white heels, dark hair in a bun atop her head and the same bright smile that had made your heart flip so many times in your life.
It was Eva.
Your Eva.
Eva the model who was leaving the chapel leading on to the Vegas strip with a wedding ring on her finger and Dieter fucking Bravo by her side. And they were smiling, laughing. Paparazzi shots of the two of them kissing in the street after the ceremony flitted behind your lids every time you closed your eyes for the last two weeks.
You could only assume it was a drunken whim that had turned your best friend from your Eva to Mrs Dieter Bravo.
So you were mad at her right now. Mad that she’d married some trainwreck celebrity she barely knew. But the real gut wrenching pain you felt was that she hadn't even told you; you'd had to find out after the fact through stupid papped photographs that made you want to claw your eyes out. You weren’t jealous, absolutely not.. You just wanted Eva to be happy. How could she be happy with a guy like that? You had heard plenty about Dieter Bravo; he seemed to have often been the subject of some ridiculous Hollywood gossip in the past, and then there had been that god awful Cliff Beasts documentary you'd watched for a laugh that certainly didn’t paint him in a great light. Sure he was an Oscar and Emmy winning actor now but jeez, from what you’d seen he wasn't exactly what you'd call marriage material.
Yeah, you were hurt.
"What? Say what you want to say” Eva sighs when you remain solidy quiet for a long minute.
"I don't have anything to say"
Her breath huffs down the line and you can practically hear her roll her eyes.
"You got married, Eva” You finally speak again, voice coming out quiet and more bitter than you’d wanted it to.
“I did, cherry” She responds.
The nickname she’d given you in grade school was never going away.
“You got married! To fucking…to Dieter Bravo!” It makes you laugh a little to say it out loud, and Eva can’t hold back her own small giggle at that.
“Yep”
You can tell she’s smiling, there’s that cadence in her voice that lifts when she’s really happy. Usually it’s your favourite thing in the world but right now it makes you fucking ache. Reaching for your glass of wine you take a big gulp before speaking again.
“I just…you didn’t even tell me. I’d like to know if my oldest friend is getting hitched, you know?"
“I do know, I do…I-” She stops and there’s a rustle of noise on the line as she shifts, “I wasn’t trying to hide it from you, it just happened so suddenly…we didn’t exactly plan it. He made a joke about it and the next thing I knew we were on a flight to Vegas”
So it really was a spontaneous decision. You couldn’t even pretend to be surprised.
"I could've....Eva, I wanted to be your maid of honour if you ever got married, isn't that what we always said?"
"You can be my maid of honour for the next one" Eva offers.
Ok, she got you there, you can’t stop the laugh that comes. At least until you hear a man's gruff laugh in the background. For a moment it makes you see red at the thought that he's involving himself in your conversation even in the smallest way.
"Ev. This isn't a joke. You get why I'm mad right? And to Dieter Bravo of all people - look, is this a PR stunt?" You mutter a little meanly, taking another sip.
“Wow, screw you” She retorts, but it’s playful. “He’s nice...really nice. He’s fun. You told me to have all the fun I could have in LA, remember?”
“You weren't supposed to marry the fun, Eva!” You protest, but her happiness in the face of the ridiculous situation makes it so difficult to stay mad at her.
"Wait til you meet him, cherry pie. Just wait, you’ll get it. And…I am sorry, okay?” The line is quiet for a moment and you hear her moving presumably to a different room “I really am. But I didn't call to tell you about my married bliss. I heard about Charlie"
God, your stomach twists in knots at the mention. Being mad at Eva had been a good distraction from the breakup even if only for a moment.
"Oh, right”
“You wanna talk about it?” Her voice is gentle now, sympathetic. You wish she could hug you like she used to when you were sad.
“I’m fine” You lie, “I mean I thought she'd be my... doesn't matter. I’m okay" Massive lie.
Eva says some comforting words that you barely register.
You feel like you’re constantly standing at the edge of what your world could be. Maybe it’s why the marriage riled you up so much. You can’t pretend she doesn’t sound happy. And here you are broken up with again, alone again. Before she’d left to live her dreams, you’d had visions that maybe it’d be Eva you’d end up with. Maybe if you could just let yourself be fully real for once…Maybe she’d realise, and you could have been something bright and glowing and joyful too.
A whole lot of maybes that meant nothing in the end.
It’s just you now.
You zone back in to the call at the words ‘Bora Bora’ and ‘Don’t worry about the cost, cherry’
“Wait, what?” You stutter, trying to understand if you’re hearing her correctly
“Take a few weeks off, come with us. The hotel is paid for, we have one of those fancy bungalows. We’ll sort the flights. You need this and I miss you”
"I..." you hesitate nervously, biting your lip “I miss you too. But…”
Eva tsks at you, familiar with that tone even down a phone line.
"What are you going to do instead? Sit on your couch for three weeks and scroll her instagram for hours on end? I'm not letting you do that. Come on, cherry pie, we'll have so much fun. It'll be like old times" Eva gives as much enthusiasm as she can, but that hint of concern has notched in her throat. She knows you too well and she’s right.
"Like old times?" you huff  "Except it'll be me, you, and your husband"
"You'll like him, I promise"
The call ends with your promise to think about it.
And think about it you do. All night, all of the next day. It’s a stupid fucking offer for them to make. It’ll be so awkward. What if he’s a nightmare? What if she’s not the same with you now she’s got a ring on her finger? You should say no.
You should really say no.
Tumblr media
Two weeks later, after a day of sitting too long with not enough leg room, the little Air Tahiti plane lands in Bora Bora.
Your legs shake as you step off the plane. It’s possible you’re still in shock that you even agreed to this. Your stomach knots with nerves, as your bags are unloaded and you head over to the arrival area to find-
There she is. Your breath hitches in your throat. Your heart beats faster. God, you really had missed her. It’s been months, and she’s still so her it makes everything suddenly feel okay.
“Cherry!” Eva squeals gleefully, dark glossy hair bouncing as she runs up to crush you into an insistent hug. You laugh, you can’t stop laughing as you hold on to her.
Your Eva.
“Oh my god, I missed you” You feel like you might cry as she utters similar sentiments into your ear.
When she finally lets go and steps back you finally notice the man behind her. Not that Dieter Bravo would ever be easy to ignore.
He's what you'd expected; The mess of brown hair sticking this way and that, the too casual clothes, scruffy facial hair. But he’s also…well he’s gorgeous, not Hollywood good-looking like the waxwork movie stars in all those big action films. You’ve seen his face before on screens and in pictures and yet you’ve never fully understood that this man is pretty, he’s different. He’s enthralling, even just at first glance.
Dieter tilts his head so you can catch his big brown eyes beneath the sunglasses he’s wearing and you have to stop yourself staring too hard. He’s what you expect, but he takes you by surprise too. He raises his left hand to scratch at his chin, a glint of the rings on his fingers catching your eye as you observe him before stepping forward with a friendly smile which he returns with a wry one of his own.
“You must be-” You start before he cuts you off.
“The fun, yeah” Dieter pushes his sunglasses down his nose and gives you a wink, followed by a grin before he turns towards Eva.
Your stomach flips, a twinge of jealousy as he takes hold of her hand and they share a glance at each other. You’re still processing the interaction with him but it’s impossible to ignore the way Dieter's face lights up when he looks to her - a brilliantly bright but bashful smile like he can't believe she's there, his eyes snapping up to meet hers like it's the first time seeing her.
Like he's desperately in love with her.
At least the two of you have something in common.

“I can’t believe neither of you idiots have ever seen this classic! You both love Halloween.”
Steve Harrington on a mission was a sight to behold. You were impressed, honestly. He had only found out about the crime, as he was calling it, of you and Eddie having never seen It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! that morning. And here he was, not even a full twenty-four hours later, having pulled together an impromptu movie night for the three of you to rectify the atrocities admitted.
“I told you, Stevie,” Eddie lounges on the couch, already comfortable in his sweatpants and Halloween socks you had bought for him last year. One of the seasonal blankets Steve magically had hiding away in his apartment was already draped across his lap as he picked at the small pumpkins decorating the fabric, “I’m more of a horror movie Halloween buff. Gore, ghosts, slashers – the good stuff.”
“Gross,” Steve absent-mindedly calls in response from the kitchen. You’re perched on the arm of the opposite end of the couch from Eddie, scowling as his feet peek out from under the blanket and he wiggles his sock-clad toes at you.
Gross, you mouth in repetition at Eddie, not mocking Steve but instead insulting Eddie’s feet that he happily stretches across what should be yours and Steve’s seats.
He raises his eyebrows as you both hear a cabinet in the kitchen opening loudly. Eddie’s eyes don’t leave your face as he yells over his shoulder, “Everything okay in there, Charlie Brown?”
“Har, har,” Steve sarcastically replies, but only after a slightly concerning, long pause.
“I’m gonna go help him,” you whisper, finally standing and swatting at Eddie’s legs, “And when I get back, I expect my seat to be free of your smelly, sweaty feet.”
“Oh, come on,” Eddie leans his head back in laughter as you walk past him, rolling your eyes, “You know you love the stink, bab-”
He doesn’t get to finish the pet name as you reach out for his sorry excuse of a bun, giving a sharp tug that has him gasping. His hands are quick to wrap around the back of your knees, nearly tripping you. A small dispute begins, all slapping hands with no intention of inflicting real pain as Eddie lifts up properly, grinning brilliantly at the antics.
Steve enters the kitchen doorway at the sound of the rustling to find you with both of Eddie’s wrists clutched between your hands, you leaning down to glare at him as he continues to look up with his boyish smirk. He can smirk all he wants, but it doesn’t distract from the glowing flush of his cheeks, all the awe in his eyes. It’s almost as fruitless to hide as your own secret enjoyment of his pest-like behavior.
“Am I… interrupting something?” Steve awkwardly asks, shifting on his feet.
You open your mouth to say no, absolutely not, but Eddie beats you to the punchline, “Actually, yes. Someone here thinks it’s funny to pull my hair before buying me dinner.”
Sudden shyness, smothering embarrassment, floods your system as you quickly drop Eddie’s wrists. He revels in your reaction, dimples flashing as he reaches out once more to grab onto your thighs.
You’re too quick for him this time. Stepping outside of his reach effortlessly as you try to catch your breath. Damn him.
Eddie Munson is a flirtatious tease. It’s in his blood; he is a pest, he is a flirt, and he is one of two absolute banes of your existence.
The other just happens to still stand shocked in the kitchen doorway.
“Do you need any help with snacks?” you grumble as you quickly shove past Steve and into the kitchen. Your gaze stays down, unable to look at either of the boys in the eyes for a moment as you head straight to where Steve has placed a bowl of popcorn.
Some sort of silent exchange surely must be occurring behind you between them, but you don’t bother with glancing over your shoulder to confirm it.
“Hey,” Steve finally follows behind you, grabbing the bowl of candy to your right, “Is everything alright?”
Yeah, totally alright. Just feel like my heart could burst out of my chest every time the two of you tease me like that. Just hate the way I wish the insinuations held more weight. Just really, really wish I wasn’t so hopelessly infatuated with my two best friends. It’s fine. Just peachy. Totally alright.
You forgo the internal dialogue spilling out into the air between the two of you, only shrugging and saying, “Fine. Why?”
“Just making sure,” Steve plays it off as nonchalant.
Maybe you should have spied on their private interaction. You’d assumed it was just joking glances or further teasing words exchanged, but maybe it had been something more. Something serious – concern for you, possibly.
You really hope you hadn’t hurt Eddie’s feelings with the way you’d escaped the mortifying scene so quickly. It’d put a slight damper on what was clearly just meant to be a nice, comforting night filled to the brim with Halloween nostalgia.
Steve clears his throat as you pick up the popcorn bowl and face him, face contemplative over words not quite forming on his open lips.
“Are you alright?” you question now, brows furrowing and hills of wrinkles forming between them.
He stares directly at them for a second, more careful consideration, before whatever war raging in his mind comes to a standstill, “Can I ask you a question?”
Oh, no. That’s never a good question to hear from one of your guy friends. Even with pining, assumingly unrequited crushes aside.
“Sure,” you try to keep your voice steady, even adding a casual shrug to mask any signs of anxiety creeping in, “Ask away.”
Is he about to ask if I have a crush on Eddie? Would I even admit I have a crush on Eddie? If I admitted to my crush on Eddie, would it be awkward to follow it up with an ‘Oh, but, hey! I also have a crush on you! No biggie!’?
There was a good reason you’d never approached either boy about your feelings. Confusion. All the feelings were a confusing, tangled, head-ache inducing pain to navigate. Easier to swallow them down and lock them tightly in your chest than to rain down devastation on a perfectly good friendship trio.
“Is there…” Steve pauses, licking his lips nervously, moving the bowl of candy from one hand to the other as if trying to procrastinate finishing his question, “Is there something going on between you and Eddie?”
Oh.
Oh.
Well, it’s certainly not the type of embarrassment you expected.
“What?” you laugh skittishly, “What do you mean?”
“I mean, like… are you two dating? Or, I don’t know – is there anything going on there?”
“Why are you asking?”
“Why are you avoiding?”
You both hit a stand-still, staring at each other with wide eyes. Your pupils are blown with fear of the exposure of your best kept secret, or at least half of it, but Steve’s seem to shine with something more. Like he knows something you don’t.
“I’m not avoiding,” you choke out, “Nothing’s happening between us. He’s always a flirt, you know this. Just last week, he was making jokes with you about how you could spit in his m-”
“Don’t remind me,” Steve cuts you off, cringing slightly, “That was gross. He was way too committed to that bit when he started trying to spit in my mouth.”
“You egged him on.”
“He ruined my appetite for a perfectly good strawberry milkshake.”
“You literally egged him on,” you laugh a little, glad for the subject change and that the spotlight was now on Steve, “Kept telling him he wouldn’t. You should know better than that by now.”
Steve only shrugs and begins to walk out of the kitchen, you following right behind.
He can avoid the topic all he wants, just as you tried to pathetically avoid the topic of there being anything between you and Eddie, but it doesn’t erase the fact that you’d never seen Steve Harrington blush before that night.
Maybe he was asking if you two were a thing out of jealousy. And oh, how ironic it would be if you had to sit back and watch Steve grow the balls to do something about his feelings for Eddie before you could. The two men that drove you insane, ending up dating.
The Universe is cruel, but you hope it isn’t that cruel.
“Took you two long enough,” Eddie dramatically sighs when you two re-enter the living room. He’s still splayed out across the couch, feet digging into the cushions as if for emphasis of him ignoring your request, “Thought I was going to starve to death out here.”
“You weren’t going to starve to death,” Steve scoffs. When he slaps Eddie’s shins, the older boy finally moves his legs, sitting up as the blanket falls partially off his lap.
“We can’t know that for sure.”
“I’m very sure you would have survived another five minutes.”
“Five whole minutes?” Eddie gasps, not letting the theatrics drop for one moment, “Jesus Christ, what the Hell were you two doing in there? Sucking each other’s faces off?”
Son of a fucking bitch.
You silently send up a plea to whatever greater power may be controlling the Universe, quietly insisting that both sides of Eddie Munson’s pillow are deathly hot tonight.
Normally, you could handle all the teases, all the innuendos. Hell, you’d even been able to handle a sudden influx of the behavior these last few weeks from both of them. So you can’t quite pinpoint why they all seem to get to you tonight. Maybe it’s the way they seem specifically targeted at only you, none of Eddie’s suggestive comments being spared for Steve tonight. Or maybe, it’s the way both boys seem to lock their gazes on you after each one, waiting patiently as they anticipate your reaction. Gauging the way your eyes widen, drinking in the way your breath quickens. Like predators with prey, it just feels like they’re toying with you.
You’re kind of grateful that you’re not watching one of Eddie’s normal slasher films tonight. At least Charlie Brown isn’t going to jumpscare you into one of them embarrassingly.
You haven’t responded yet, and Steve is clearly not about to entertain Eddie’s comment nor deny it shyly as he usually would. So you take a big breath, put on your brave face, and smile.
“Oh, yeah,” you curse the shake in your syllables, “I can officially confirm that Stevie is the best kisser in all of Hawkins. Congratulations.”
You end in flourish, matching Eddie’s performance with your own as you set the popcorn down on the coffee table and bow. When you look up, Steve is flush as Eddie smirks.
Again, not what you had expected. An eye roll from Steve, maybe some shock from Eddie at you keeping him on his toes.
The only person being kept on their toes tonight, it seems, is you.
Steve settles into the opposite end of the couch from Eddie before you can even fathom choosing a seat.
Damn it. Middle seat it is, then. Definitely not having an internal panic attack about this. Not at all freaking out.
The movie is already in the TV as you plop down between the boys, careful to not make direct contact with either. At this point, so much as a brush from their knee against yours would be equivalent to a terrible electric shock. You’re not in the mood for further teasing about being so skittish, or Eddie berating you for being scared of a movie like Charlie Brown.
You should have known better.
Eddie notices immediately, and instead of leaving it alone, he comments on it. Bastard.
“Why so far away?” he starts off teasing, throwing half of the pumpkin blanket he was using over one of your thighs. Immediately, his body heat becomes your own, and you scorn the way you want to lean into it. Press into his side, succumb to whatever shitty drugstore cologne he was wearing and the way his last cigarette is probably lingering to that stupid band t-shirt, “You’re not scared that my smelly, sweaty feet are gonna bite, are you?”
“They could,” you blandly reply.
Eddie and Steve share a look behind your head.
Your arms cross protectively over your chest, and you know it looks as if you’re pouting, but you swear you aren’t. You swim in the denial, telling yourself that the sourness in your mood is only a result of being on edge. It was just a bad week for your childish crushes – the quicker you get the stick out of your ass, the quicker you can return to normal, and the quicker you can ignore all your desperate temptations. All those silly butterflies and disgusting chills you get when Steve brushes up against you to grab something that’s just out of your reach, when Eddie throws an arm around your shoulders and his curls tickle your cheeks.
You’ll get over it. It’s fine. A perfectly cozy autumn night is no time to throw a pity party.
When you glance at Eddie as Steve is clicking his way through the movie’s menu, you catch him already looking at you. There’s no trace of his usual joking or relaxed boyish features. He looks genuinely scared, genuinely concerned that he’s upset you.
“Are you mad at me?” he whispers, straight to the point once he notices you looking back at him.
Immediately, you’re shaking your head.
You’re not mad at him. You’re mad about him. You’re mad that his hair looks so soft, and you always wish for more sudden vulnerable moments where he lets his guard down and your fingers detangle the curls. You’re mad that his lips look very kissable, even in the dead of winter when they crack terribly and he arrogantly turns down all your offers of lip balm. You’re mad that every time he laughs hard enough that he lets his head fall to your shoulder, a warmth impossible to shake settles in your bones.
And you’re mad for all the same reasons when it comes to Steve.
It is ridiculous. Stupid, reckless, foolish. Best friends don’t envision taking each other on cute fall dates. Best friends don’t look for every possible excuse to touch one another, to flirt with one another, to just be near one another.
You’ve fucked yourself over, really. Should’ve had half the mind to not fall for not only one, but both of your guy best friends. Idiot.
“I’m not mad,” you hoarsely whisper back as Steve frowns when his remote doesn’t work on the TV, standing to go manually hit play, “I’m sorry, Eds. I’ve just- it’s been a shitty week with work and stuff. I’ve been kind of a dick tonight. I’m sorry.”
Eddie visibly relaxes, moving to lay his arm on the couch behind your head. You do have half the mind to not freeze up at the proximity just as the side of his thigh presses against yours.
Don’t fuck this up. Don’t fuck this up. Do not fuck this up.
That giddy child within you that wants to write their initials with yours in a wobbly, pathetic goddamn heart is jumping with joy. Idiot.
“Don’t apologize for that, sweetheart,” oh, fuck him for that endearment, dripping with adoration. You hate it solely for not being the type of adornment you wish you could afford, “Tonight’s a perfect distraction. Just us, a fuck ton of candy, and Charlie Brown with his big ass pumpkin.”
“It’s called the great pumpkin,” Steve corrects as he returns to the couch.
“To-may-toe, to-maw-toe,” Eddie brushes off, waving the hand not resting behind your head currently.
As Steve sits down, you can’t tell if it’s accidental or deliberate that he chooses to sit several inches closer to you. Suddenly, both thighs are now pressed up against each boy at either side of you.
“Whatever,” he huffs, motioning across you for the blanket from Eddie, “Just share the blanket and shut up.”
And despite being in your own personal Hell, the first hour or so of the cartoon goes fairly smoothly. Normal joking, plenty of Eddie’s manners going out the window as he makes comments through mouthfuls of popcorn, subtle passings of Steve unwrapping your favorite candies before handing them over to you without a word. It’s nice. For a moment, it’s the perfect fall night.
“That’s you,” Steve reaches a hand across you to jab Eddie in the shoulder before pointing out Pig-Pen in his ghost costume on the screen, scribbled dirt around him bouncing about.
“Excuse me?” Eddie scoffs, leaning forward to properly glare at Steve. But there’s no hate there, only gentle joking and enjoyment flaming away behind dark brown irises, “I’ll have you know I showered for this, Harrington. Can you say the same?”
You laugh quietly, stuck in the middle of the arguing boys as your eyes stay glued to the screen.
“You showered? What a miracle.”
“Bite me, Charlie Brown.”
You finally pull your eyes from the screen of the kids excitedly sharing what treats they received, trying to not smile at the iconic delivery of a deflated I got a rock as you peer up at Steve’s pouting lips.
He’s pretty, even this close. Faded freckles that will rest for the dreary months until the sun beckons them back to the surface come summer, full brows that still manage to frame his honeyed eyes even as he furrows them deeply.
“I can’t hear the movie over you idiots,” you whisper as he locks gazes with you, “Shut up and pass me another Reese’s cup, will you?”
You don’t have to ask twice. Steve leans down without protest and does as you ask, going so far as to once more tear away the orange wrapper before he places the peanut butter cup delicately in your waiting palm.
“Thank you.”
“Anything for you, honey.”
The words are more sincere than you’re prepared for. You know he means it as he looks at you with hazel eyes full of a desire, a longing, you’re not used to. Lashes fluttering, corners of his mouth pressing downward but not quite in discontent. He looks impossibly handsome without even trying. Effortlessly, he’s taking your breath away. You have to remind your chest to rise and fall, to remind yourself that this is nothing more than a movie night with friends.
Be normal. Act normal. This is normal.
Except you feel anything but normal when Eddie’s arm falls from the back of the couch and around your shoulders. A clearly intentional move attempted to be brushed off as an accidental action. His skin strikes against yours like a match against grain, and the slow embers they’d been stoking for weeks now erupt from you in a field of goosebumps following the chill running down your spine.
You don’t react.
Not when his thumb trails over the top of your shoulder in soft, sweeping motions. Not when Steve’s head eventually replaces Eddie’s hand on your shoulders as he succumbs to the week finally catching up to him, and you become entranced in the scent of his minty body wash clashing with the soft coconut of his shampoo. Not when your own heavy head smushes uncomfortably against Eddie’s biceps and your own snores join Steve’s in a symphony barely breaking over the volume of the sweet cartoon on the screen.
Eddie doesn’t wake either of you that night. Even when he really should. The three of you don’t finish the final thirty minutes of the movie, but it’s still the perfect fall night for all of you.
Maybe you’ll untangle your feelings for the two boys come winter.
“There’s no way you can lift that.”
“Fuck off, Harrington. Your pumpkin from last year was double this one in size.”
“And I was still able to pick it up. If you can’t carry it, we’re not getting it. Simple as that.”
Normally, you’d butt into Eddie and Steve’s arguments. Probably inject a comment about how it didn’t matter because there’s not a single pumpkin here that would ever be bigger than either of their heads — something sure to set them both off until you commanded their silence. Normally, you wouldn’t be so quiet.
But ever since the night of the Great Pumpkin, your mind has been restless enough to kill off any words before they can fall off your tongue.
A cycle of overthinking and overanalyzing has been haunting you for a week now. The memory of Eddie’s fingertips pressing into the ditches of your knees, and that particularly heartstopping look from Steve as he’d so sweetly referred to you as honey. You told yourself you’d get over it, and the morning after had even been close to normal. You’d all woken up with aches in your neck from that uncomfortable sleeping situation on Steve’s couch, and Steve had even offered to pay for you all to just get bagels from your favorite restaurant a block away rather than destroy his kitchen in a mission to make breakfast. Eddie had ordered everyone’s coffee just the way they liked it, you’d repeatedly pointed out cream cheese on both boys’ upper lips repeatedly, and it had all been easy.
And then you went home. And once the first nervous replay of the night began, it turned into an endless cycle.
“The pumpkin has to be big for the design I’m doing, Steve,” Eddie continues to argue as he stands over a larger pumpkin on display. The boys had thought it’d be a good idea to visit the pumpkin patch today.
They’d been right, of course. The weather was beautiful, crisp and dipping low enough to warrant cheesy fall attire. It’s the type of weather where you'd been able to break out a flannel and beanie, all without overheating. Families were walking through the small farm’s selection of pumpkins, children’s calls of glee could be heard from across the bales of hay, a distinct smell of cider off in the distance. The scene was set for a perfect autumn day.
Except for your raging mind. That, unfortunately, had been killing the mood.
Steve looks at you desperately, a few steps away from the two of them. Just enough space that if their petty argument became too embarrassing, you could easily convince someone you didn’t know them, “Please talk some sense into him.”
You hesitate before you finally give in and walk closer to Eddie. Your eyes focus on the oversized pumpkin rather than him. It’s too dangerous to fully drink him in; between his red flannel peaking out beneath his leather jacket and your beanie he had stolen to tuck over his own curls after complaining at the cooler weather, he looked too inviting. Too soft. Rosy cheeks and rosy lips called to you like a siren prepared to drown you in all the want that had begun to brew within your body since the movie night.
“It’s a… big pumpkin,” you state in obvious observation. Eddie tries to work you with his doe eyes instantly, and you hate the way you can feel it working, “Steve’s right. If you can’t carry it to the car, how are we getting it into the house?”
“Steve’s strong.”
At the mention of his name, Steve crosses his arms. And damn him, because the way his own brown corduroy jacket is straining over his biceps also has you dizzy with yearning, “I am not carrying that fucking thing into the house.”
“Why not? You’re a big, strong man-“ Eddie starts, almost tauntingly with a wicked grin, making you finally step in between them.
“The bigger the pumpkin, the bigger the mess,” you point out. Steve nods in solidarity, but Eddie is obviously unconvinced, “Eds, I’m not cleaning up all those pumpkin guts this year.”
A look of betrayal crosses his face, mingling with long lashes and faded dimples, “I swear I’ll clean up after myself. I wouldn’t do you like that, baby.”
There it is. You’d gone this entire day so far without any of Eddie’s usual flirtatious approaches. It had almost seemed like the two men had finally reigned themselves in.
Clearly, they hadn’t. They were just waiting for the right time.
“Pack up the puppy dog eyes, Munson. You’re a terrible liar,” you mumble out, pulling your own jacket tighter around your body as you move closer to Steve. He hadn’t started any onslaughts of flirting. Yet.
The moment you get near him, he wordlessly drops his faux irritation at Eddie and opens his arms, beckoning you to step into his space. You almost hesitate, but it was normal. The three of you were always touchy, and it was never a problem before.
Maybe if it had been, you wouldn’t be in your current predicament.
It’s clear he had taken a shower before the outing as your nose smashes against his t-shirt, the clear scent of his minty body wash and coconut shampoo replacing the air of fall around you. His arms are quick to wrap around your shoulders, only encouraging your body to press further into him. And you let him, because he’s warm, and despite all your teasing of Eddie’s complaints about the weather, you agreed that the chill was particularly unforgiving today. Especially in the shady patches void of sunlight.
The only real sunlight seemed to emit from the boy wrapped around you. He’s all tousled shades of golden and leftover fatigue from the early waking to make it out to the pumpkin patch at opening. As he hums into your embrace, you choose to just appreciate it, revel in it.
Eddie is pouting behind you, but out of sight – out of mind.
“I’m getting this pumpkin,” he says decidedly, “Fuck both of you.”
“Would you say it’s your great pumpkin?” you murmur against Steve, letting your eyes close, wondering if it’s possible to fall asleep standing up in this position.
Only Steve laughs at your joke, and you can’t tell if it’s because only he found it funny or if it’s because only he heard your reference to the unfinished movie from the night before.
It doesn’t matter, because the entire moment is interrupted when an older woman who had been bearing witness to the entire interaction suddenly speaks up.
“Well, aren’t you two just the cutest couple?”
All the warmth leaves your body, each muscle slowly stiffening as Steve tenses. You almost convince yourself that she wasn’t speaking to you, that there was another couple standing somewhere nearby that were currently gathered in embrace for her to coo at.
And then Steve answers her, “Us? Oh, we, uh-”
“Aren’t they?” Eddie interrupts, mischief dripping off each word as you slowly lift your head and open your eyes back to the grey day, “So in love it makes me sick to my stomach.”
Steve coughs up a few more syllables of protest, but Eddie has already done the damage. When you turn to face the lady, she’s wearing a brilliant smile, eyes crinkling at the corners as she looks at you and Steve in glee.
“Oh, I still remember that feeling,” she continues, a cloud of pure nostalgia glazing over her eyes for a moment before she looks to Eddie, “Don’t worry, dear. You’ll find it one day too, just like your friends.”
Eddie snorts. Easily mistaken as possible annoyance, inherent jealousy. Only you and Steve know better.
“We…” you begin, trailing off when you look up at Steve and see him brimming with hope. You expected discomfort, you expected irritation at whatever game Eddie was playing – you didn’t expect optimism at the prospect of you two being perceived as a couple. The ending to your sentence dies on your tongue, and you choose a polite response instead, “Thank you.”
Was there any real harm in letting some little old lady believe you two were in love? Probably not, especially considering the way she lights up and your faux admission satisfies her. An exchange of have a good day sends her on her way, and she never catches the way Eddie hunches over in laughter once she’s out of earshot. She doesn’t catch Steve Harrington blushing red or the way his arm swings out to smack Eddie in his chest, and she never notices the way you stand in the same place Steve left you, cold and confused and… disappointed?
No harm, no foul.
It was all a joke, anyways.
And that’s all it will ever be, even as you linger back and watch your boys continue their banter, all the while a hollow ache questioning just why the prospect of all that puppy love and youthful oblivion is so funny between the boys. Why the idea of one of them being yours, is so damn funny.
You kind of felt ridiculous. Even more ridiculous than Linus had been, waiting in that pumpkin patch for some great pumpkin to appear. You wish it were just silly children tales and blind hope at play. Your great pumpkin was a little more twisted, a little more complicated; an impossible choice, a gnawing conundrum you will never unravel.
If you could make a choice, it might be easier.
But why would ever need to make a choice when all it will ever be to the two boys who have come to plague your every waking thought as nothing more than a joke?
Eddie gets his great pumpkin, and Steve ends up carrying it into the house that day. You’re the only one to return home with more than just empty arms.
Halloween parties are the perfect recipe for disaster.
Spiked cider, struggling fog machines, loud replays of Monster Mash, and a small crowd of half-assed costumes. Every other year, your friends had thrown this type of ‘spooky’ themed get-together, and you would enjoy every single moment of it. Quite literally, every single moment – from the terrible and impromptu karaoke sessions to the ridiculous apple-bobbing contests that Argyle always excelled at. It was always a night full of light, a night full of laughter. Something to leave your chest feeling fizzy as it would always end surrounded by all your favorite people, particularly Eddie and Steve.
This year, it feels like more of a burden.
You’re feeling like something hollow, something monstrous – no costume required – as you stew in quiet misery for the first few hours. The movie night and the pumpkin patch visit have left you feeling something new. Something that had grown claws and growled to be recognized in all its painful yearning and pitiful pining.
Steve questioning you about having something more with Eddie had driven a knife into your chest, and the prospect of being seen as a couple with Steve had torn it free of your ribs. Not quite bleeding, but not quite healing, you’d been haunted by a series of what-ifs that stole away hours of sleep and any time of relaxation you’d normally seek as all the leaves changed colors.
What if you wanted something more with Eddie?
What if you wished that you and Steve were a couple?
What if you could never make a choice?
The allusion of a choice to be made still dangled on the forefront of your buzzing cortex. It still felt just as ridiculous as the first time you’d realized you’d been experiencing more than platonic feelings for your best friends; like a child outside a candy store, without money and without hope to go home with any of the sweets that made your mouth water. Everyone could see you staring in through the windows, you swore they could, and they were probably silently mocking the way you drooled. It was stupid.
It was putting a real damper on your entire mood.
“What’s up with you?” Robin questions finally as she walks up to where you sit on the balcony of her shared apartment with Nancy. At some point, you’d decided the frigid chill of the night would be a better place to soak in all your misery.
“What do you mean?” you blandly ask, not even looking up from the railing your eyes had focused on.
Robin joins you on the garden couch, shifting the flimsy seating a bit from the force of her throwing herself down dramatically, “I mean, why are you out here all alone? And why have you been so quiet tonight? Did something happen?”
Straight to the point. One of the reasons you liked Robin – her lack of a filter was something you’d always seen as more of a gift rather than a curse.
“Nothing happened,” you shrug, head feeling light despite the storm that had been brewing for nearly the entire month now. Your fingertip trails around the rim of the now-warm bottle of cider you’d been nursing after chugging two previously. You wanted to be drunk. You wanted to down enough alcohol that you wouldn’t even remember Steve and Eddie’s names by the end of the night.
“You’re doing that thing they do in the movies,” Robin notes, finally making you look at her with raised eyebrows, “You know, where they say nothing’s wrong but it’s all… sad,” she waves her hands erratically through her ramble of an explanation, one hand clutching her own bottle of beer. You can see the condensation through the lowlights and simply know her adult equivalent of apple juice is far cooler than yours. Probably tastes better, too, “Like, something is obviously wrong, but you’re gonna make me work for the answer.”
You laugh under your breath. The silence is filled with static noises of night; you can still hear the chatter of your friend group and whatever Halloween-themed song they were playing over the speakers through the shut sliding door, an orchestra of insects hum their complaints through the dark apartment complex, a soft whistle of the fall breeze rustles all the trees lurking in the shadows.
She’s right. It’s dramatic, it’s stupid, it’s ridiculous – and she’s right.
You sigh out and feed into your theatrics as you fall back against the cushion of the couch, finally matching her slouch, “Have you ever watched the Charlie Brown Halloween special?”
“What?” she scoffs, no trace of rudeness in her remark but rather confusion, “You mean the one where all the kids are trick-or-treating, and that one weirdo is waiting for some magical pumpkin king with that other girl? What does that have to do with-”
“I feel like that weirdo,” you interrupt, staring straight ahead, “Like Linus. Just standing in a pumpkin patch and waiting for some great pumpkin that isn’t going to show. And I know I look silly, but a part of me really believes, y’know? I just can’t stop waiting for something to happen that might never-” you cut yourself off with a sharp breath. That wound in your chest, the one only you can see, throbs. Not bleeding, not healing. Just yearning as you correct yourself, “For something that won’t ever happen. Ever. There’s no great pumpkin, and I just end up looking like a fool.”
Robin’s silence is unnerving. No amount of sounds of the night can blanket over the discomfort begging to bubble over.
“I think I’m just drunk,” you try to save yourself, “I’m sorry, it’s dumb-”
“What’s your great pumpkin?” she asks carefully, “What are you waiting for?”
The alcohol must really be having an affect, because your loose lips are finally moving to their own accord.
“Eddie and Steve.”
She scrunches her face, “What about those dinguses?”
“They’re my great pumpkin.”
You’re clearly nonsensical as Robin shifts to lean forward, entering your blank line of sight, “Are you…. Like, you want them to get together? Sorry, I’m not really following here, Linus.”
The nickname almost makes you smile. Almost.
“I mean, not really,” you try to forage your brain for the right words to explain, but there’s no poetic way to put what’s been on your mind, “I like them. Both of them. Have for a while now, but it’s… it doesn’t really matter, anyways.”
You’re drunk enough to not hear the tapping on the sliding door. And if Robin does, she makes no move to react to it, still focused on you.
“You like both of those idiots? Oh, thank god,” she almost sounds relieved, and your head snaps to her direction.
You still don’t see the figure standing inside the doorway, moving to open the door.
“Thank God?” you laugh humorlessly, “I am not thanking God. It’s miserable, Robs. I like them both so fucking much, and I just- what am I supposed to do with that? They’re my best friends, and I should know better. Besides, liking two guys at once can never work out. What am I supposed to do? Shove them into a room with me and go, ‘oh, hey, I like both of you. And I can’t choose, so I’m just going to make you live with that. Also, Eddie, lay off the flirting, because it sort of makes my heart stop and my chest all tight. And Steve, please don’t call me honey, because it also makes me feel all terribly weird. But also neither of you ever stop either of those things, because I might keel over and die if I’m not receiving all your affections, platonic or otherwise.’”
Your admittance all comes out in one breath, saying exactly what you wish you could say to the two boys. You don’t care how foolish you sound to Robin right now – the cider has taken care of all your shame.
It’s just nice to say it outloud.
Very nice, in fact, until movement behind Robin catches your eye, and you realize you had not been alone during your ramble.
Eddie.
“Oh, fuck me,” the normally internal dialogue comes out as a sigh, eyes wide in stricken fear as Robin turns to face your own waking Hell.
“Welp,” Robin’s very helpful reaction tries to break the tension to no avail, “I… I think I’ll leave you two alone. I’ll- Yeah. I’m gonna go.”
She jumps up before you have the chance to reach out and stop her. Your hand aches to just wrap around her forearm, to beg her to not leave you alone to burn with all your shame and embarrassment, but she’s gone before you’ve even moved a muscle.
Her seat vacated, and in her absence, Eddie takes her place.
Kill me. Kill me now, please. Have mercy on me-
“So…” Eddie begins, fiddling with his hands as he looks down at his lap. In the shadows, you don’t see the ghost of a grin on his lips, “You like us?”
“If you’re about to make fun of me,” you state flatly, bristling in your seat, all liquid confidence beginning to evaporate, “I’d rather you save me the embarrassment, and just kill me. Make it quick and painless, please.”
All your pity partying was easier to swallow than this. You liked your brooding solitude far more than the acceptance that Eddie had just heard your very mortifying speech, liked the assumption that you might have been upset with the boys more than them knowing the truth.
Eddie throws his hands up in surrender, “Not making fun of you. I swear.”
“Well, if you’re about to reject me, can you also make that quick and painless?”
“Who said I was rejecting you?”
“I know it’s fucking weird and I just ruined everythin- wait, did you just say you’re not rejecting me?”
You were so convinced that the outcome would always be bloody, always painful and bitter, that you hadn’t prepared for this. You had a hundred and one speeches prepared about how you agreed with the boys, how you were all better off friends and how you would reassure them that in a few months’ time, you’d be able to get over the silly crushes.
There were no practiced words on the tip of your tongue for the instance in which they found out and reacted well.
Eddie continues to grin under the lowlight of the porch light, looking at you sideways, not a single glimpse of him running from this evident.
“I’m not rejecting you,” he repeats himself, shuffling a bit closer on the couch, “And I’m definitely not making fun of you.”
You’re a bit speechless still. He’s close enough that his shoulder brushes yours, his knee briefly bumping the side of yours in an attempt to get you to look at him. Like a moth to the flame, you dare to turn your head, to fully take in the proximity.
“You did hear everything I said, right?” you can imagine the way the scent of cider mingles with your breath as you whisper softly to him. You almost consider grabbing what’s left of your third, or fourth possibly, bottle and just chugging as you had done with your previous drinks.
But being drunk would be a penniless attempt. When Eddie is looking at you like this, there is no amount of alcohol that could combat the sobering effect he has on you. The chill in the air hadn’t done it, the lingering smell of a bonfire somewhere in the distance was futile – but those big, brown eyes shocked you right out of your inebriated state.
Endless. They were endless in entertainment, in bewitching, in calling out to the wound in your chest. The gash might even be bleeding finally at this point as your heart hammers and your bones threaten to break.
“Every. Single. Word,” his lips spread thinner as he punctuates each word, corners of his mouth upturning to impossible heights, “Are you sure you don’t want me to stop all my flirting? Because, by all means, I can. It would be a shame, though, considering I was right.”
You hardly notice the way you’re leaning in closer to him, “Right about what?”
When he meets you halfway, own body succumbing to the gravitational pull you possessed and had no idea of, you finally note the further lack of distance.
“Right about you liking us,” his breath hits your chin as he sighs, “Right about the fact that you don’t squirm every time I joke about kissing you because it makes you uncomfortable. At least, not in the way Steve always assumed,” he pauses, body slowly angling towards yours. The only symptom of his nerves you’re able to catch is the hard swallow, as if he’s keeping all his fears at bay before he continues, “I need to ask you something, and this time, it is not a joke.”
Maybe the creators of Charlie Brown should have let Linus drink. Then, he would have seen his great pumpkin, just as you were now.
“Ask away,” you expect it to come out as a stutter, to falter and trip over your request.
But you don’t. Even in your fuzzy state of mind, you’ve never been more sure of what Eddie is about to ask of you.
“Can I kiss you?”
Your reply is half an eager nod, half a pathetic mumble of please. The moment Eddie has your permission, his lips find yours, sour from cider and sweet from candy.
It’s better than your overactive imagination had been able to conjure the last few weeks – last few months. Once you two find some sort of broken stride, an exchange of lips and teeth and tongue that feels right, you almost scold yourself for having sat in fear for so long. You should be mulling over the way this wouldn’t end well, the way this was too good to be true, but you can’t. When your fingertips tangle up the sweaty curls at the nape of his neck, and his own hand rests gently around your throat as he pulls you closer, you don’t second guess anything.
You’re kissing Eddie. He knows you like him, knows you like Steve as well, and he’s kissing you.
Right around the time you’ve nearly found yourself in Eddie’s lap, and all the air in your lungs has been stolen, the sliding door to the balcony opens again. You don’t want to break apart from Eddie – you think you’d rather take another metaphorical knife to the chest than do so – but he’s quick to separate without giving you a choice.
If you weren’t so terrified of coming across as something too needy, a greedy animal full of whines of protest, your lips would have chased after him.
Instead, your eyes flutter back open to find Steve Harrington standing behind Eddie, eyes wide as they can go as he takes in the scene he’s walked into.
In an instant, you jump backwards, putting distance between yourself and Eddie as a symphony of curses ring through your mind like alarms, “Steve.”
Eddie has the nerve to merely smile.
“Nice of you to join us, big boy,” he calls casually over his shoulder as Steve walks further out onto the balcony. Your heart is still beating out of your chest, realizing what Steve had just witnessed.
You fucked up.
“Steve, I didn’t-” you start to try to defend yourself, but it feels a bit useless as he looks right at Eddie, almost as if awestruck.
“Robin came and got me, what the fuck happened?”
You wish you could wipe the floor with Eddie’s smugness, momentarily forgetting all the emotions he had just pulled from you with a simple kiss as he smirks up at Steve, “I was right.”
You try to anticipate Steve’s reply. A play by play of a fight that might break out, a rejection still waiting to happen, a punchline that had yet to land.
His lack of reply is almost worse.
He glances down at you, eyebrows quirked in curiosity as all the hurried energy leaves him in slow spurts. His shoulders drop in relaxation, near relief, and a soft smile plays at his lips. Once curled fists now unfurl, subtly swiping away sweaty palms on the sides of his denim-covered jeans. Every action, every smoothing over in his anxiety, sends you sinking deeper into the cushions.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” you mutter, shrinking under his gaze.
“Because he was right,” Steve takes a slow step forward, still underplaying his smile, “Because that shithead was right, and you like us.”
It hadn’t occurred to you that they had discussed this. It was never a possibility in your mind that they’d also been running over scenarios, considering their own what-ifs all the while you’d been losing your mind.
But it makes sense.
Why else would they have continued to flirt with you this way? Why else would there have been such a steady progression in how far they were willing to take all the jokes, all the bits? Months of memories flash before you, and the final click into place occurs when Steve drops into what little space was left on the other side of you. It forces you to scooch over, press even closer to Eddie, leaving you to be completely sandwiched between the two men tightly.
There’s still a little bit of bravery left somewhere in you. Just a spark, but enough to have you looking at Steve with determination.
“Hey, Steve?”
“What’s up, honey?”
Eddie’s squeak of laughter doesn’t go unnoticed. But you refuse to react and lose this momentum.
“Can you kiss me?”
If you were reading this entire scenario correctly, drunk or not, the answer would be yes.
No choices necessary. You could have your cake, and eat it too.
Steve looks past you, over your shoulder and at Eddie, “You’re drunk, honey-”
“It doesn’t matter,” you insist, “I promise, I want this. Sober or not. Just…” you falter finally, taking a deep breath. Steve’s cologne, Eddie’s last cigarette lingering on his jacket, and the crisp autumn air fill your lungs. “One kiss. Nothing more. I swear.”
“You really gonna make her beg, Harrington?”
“Fuck off,” Steve’s softness when it comes you isn’t extended to Eddie, sending a warning glance the other boy’s way, “The only reason you’re not on my shit list is because you’re also plastered.”
“I’m not plastered,” you and Eddie say in sync.
Just like that, the high-rise tension has broken. Eddie rests his chin on your shoulder, clearly no longer afraid of the closeness that had become a normal before the ‘unfortunate’ overhearing of your admission. His arms wrap around your waist, pout on his lips as his temple leans against your hair.
“You’re lucky you’re both cute, you know that?” Steve muses, shaking his head softly.
You’re both cute. The sweet amusement nearly stitches up the once gaping hole in your chest immediately.
“You gonna kiss her or not?” Eddie’s voice is loud in your ear despite his low volume, chin moving against the apex of your shoulder, “Because if not, my lips are growing awfully cold-”
Steve’s hand lifts and thumps Eddie’s forehead immediately, loud enough for you to hear the impact as he leans off of you dramatically, letting out a groan of complaint.
You almost turn, a bit too eager to witness theatrics you’d normally roll your eyes at, when Steve’s palms cradle your cheeks with unexpected softness.
“Hey, look at me, yeah?” he barters. And his wish is your command, your attention wholly his as you look at him worriedly. Although the sentiment of him hesitating to kiss you while drunk was sincerely endearing, you don’t know if you could handle any form of rejection right now.
You bite your lip, and Steve’s thumb is quick to come and tug gently below your mouth, forcing your bottom lip to be freed from between your teeth.
“One kiss,” he says sternly, brows furrowing, “I’ll kiss you, mostly because I’m a selfish bastard who’s terrified you won’t ask again when sober, but we are talking about this in the morning,” he leans back a little, and looks at Eddie pointedly, “All of us.”
“Stop stalling and kiss h-”
Eddie never gets to finish his sentence.
Steve kisses differently than Eddie, and you’re not sure if it’s because he’s more sober or if that’s just how it is. But it’s something you’d like to learn; you’d like to memorize the patterns of both their lips, the differences in the touch of their hands as they pull you in deeper, the comparison of Steve’s stable and sure hands versus Eddie’s shaking and coloused ones.
Steve is a generous kisser, a follower at your beck and call. He lets you set the pace and lead the way. You control when the two of you pull back for air, when his teeth graze at your bottom lip, when he lets out soft and pretty sighs into the kiss. He’s all sweetness, none of the sour you’d tasted on Eddie’s tongue to be found.
Just like honey.
How fitting.
When Steve finally takes an inch of control and releases you, formally ending the kiss and leaving you just as breathless as Eddie had, you swear you’re seeing stars. You’re dizzy with want. You wish you hadn’t chugged those beers, you nearly consider getting down on your knees and begging both men for more. They’ve given you what you’d craved, and more, but you’re a selfish animal. Prepared to dig in your claws and call for more than you bargained for.
“One kiss,” he reminds you when you lean in for a second. He’s smiling like he might let you get away with it if you really pushed for it, though.
You play innocent instead, leaning back until your back nearly bumps into Eddie’s chest.
“One kiss,” you nod, fighting back a smile as you look at the man before you.
A great pumpkin indeed.
“You know, I don’t have a one kiss policy,” Eddie sighs from behind you, and you can feel the way he throws himself back on the couch.
When Steve rolls his eyes, you truly believe he’s about to only offer a snarky reply rather than what he does instead.
He places a warm palm on the center of your back, encouraging you to lean forward with care before he’s reaching out for the collar of Eddie’s shirt and dragging behind you for a quick kiss.
You nearly break your neck just to witness the tail end of it all.
“There, happy?”
Eddie is just as shocked at you, flushing scarlet all the way down his neck, sinking beneath the collar of his t-shirt.
“I- Uh-” he stutters out, at a loss for words, “Y-Yeah. I- Yeah, very happy.”
“Good,” Steve seems satisfied as he guides you back into place, practically manhandling you to lay back in your seat so that your shoulders are comfortably pressed to both his and Eddie’s side, “Now, here’s what’s going to happen. We’re going to go back in there, enjoy the party with our friends, and you two drunk idiots are going to stay out of trouble. And then come tomorrow morning, we’re going to get breakfast, deal with your absolute monsters of hangovers, and… talk about this,” he pauses and vaguely gestures at the three of you with a small smile, “Capiche?”
“Aye, aye, capt’n,” Eddie murmurs as you whisper back an echo of “capiche”.
“Yeah?” Steve questions again, catching your eye with a smug smile.
“Yeah,” you nod, speaking up a bit louder as you decide to take one last daring risk, “I do have one last request, though.”
“Hit me, honey.”
“You know, she allegedly hates when you call her hon-”
“Shut up,” Steve cuts Eddie off, focus on you and only you, “Ignore him. What’s your request?”
You look between the two boys, realization settling heavily as you recognize that this is real. You had yearned, you had pined, you had wanted until every nerve-ending in your body had ached, and now? Now you have them. Technicalities aside, you had gotten all that you had craved.
And to think you’d assumed you’d be waiting until winter to unravel all that now sat in the palm of your hands.
“Can we have a movie night?” you ask, a bit meeker than intended, “Maybe… I dunno… finish that Charlie Brown movie?”
Eddie’s laughter from behind you is music to your ears, and the smile that spreads across Steve’s cheeks should be hung up in a museum for your perusing whenever you please.
“Yeah, of course we can,” Steve assures you, a hand coming down on your knee, “Right, Eds?”
“I suppose,” Eddie sighs. His arm is on your shoulders, just like that first night, and this time you let the match ignite.
Honestly, the flames had engulfed you long ago. You just wish it hadn’t taken you so long to succumb to their warmth reflected in the brown eyes of the boys on either side of you.
The three of you do rejoin the party. Finding a bit of enjoyment now that you aren’t drowning in your pity party. Steve is right in his prediction of the hangovers – it might be one of the worst you’ve ever had the privilege of experiencing – but after a very sincere talk with your boys (including an only slightly grumpy Eddie, it’s worth it.
And when the three of you do finish your movie night, this time shamelessly cuddling up and sneaking kisses between sweet scenes, you can’t help but giggle at Linus finally seeing his Great Pumpkin.
At least you know yours is the real deal, especially when Eddie is the one to fall asleep this time in the final ten minutes, his head in your lap and Steve’s hand tangled in his curls.

Got Your Number
Summary: You’re Steve Harrington’s older sister and after a rough and tumultuous breakup, you’re back in Hawkins, Indiana.
Pairing: harrington!reader x Eddie Munson
Author’s notes: Potential S4 SPOILERS! For all intents and purposes of this story it’s September of 1986- Eddie is 21, almost 22, reader is 23. Post season 4, and the upside down did happen but we’re pretending the ending was how we are all talking ourselves into how it actually ended, aka Eddie lives. I started this story about 6 months ago after S4 ended, got extremely sick for a few months, and have had major writer's block over this fic because I was so unhappy with the rushed feeling of it. I hated how I’d thrown random details in there because I hadn’t thought it out well enough. So we’re taking our time the second time around- so if the storyline seems familiar, it is, it’s because it’s me rewriting my own story! Enjoy my rewrite and I appreciate any and all feedback as always ❤️
Warnings: 18+ (Minors DNI!!), language, drinking, mentions of past abusive relationship, possibly triggering bad mother/daughter relationship (comments about weight, looks, etc.), eventual smut/sexual relationship.

I.
You groaned as you walked through the front door of your childhood home, the familiar smell bringing back memories of years past. Your slightly younger brother Steve had flown out to you to help you pack up and drive a moving truck to move back to Hawkins. You arrived back home to an empty house, which was nothing new to either of you. Your parents were due back from a business trip any moment now, and you actually weren’t too upset that they hadn’t arrived yet.
“You remember where your room is?” Steve joked as he plopped one of your suitcases down in the large foyer.
“Hasn’t been that long, Stevie.” You both rolled your eyes at each other and you grabbed the suitcase from him and traipsed upstairs.
Your room had looked the same since high school, the floral wallpaper only dulled over the last five years. You hadn’t been home much since you graduated in ‘82- you had moved away to the University of Chicago and graduated with your high school (not-so) sweetheart Charlie, who quickly became (even more of) a controlling, toxic boyfriend as soon as you were alone with him in the big city. He wasn’t always so controlling of what you did- he limited your trips home to Hawkins to strictly seeing his family only, or just skipping coming home for the holidays completely because he convinced you that your school load was too much for you. Things had gotten worse over the last year as he became increasingly more abusive and violent, and you had to get the cops involved and took out a restraining order against him.
You browsed around your room, not having many moments to yourself to look around the times you had been home and smiled at some of the high school memories that still hung on the walls in frames and in photos.
“I went ahead and trashed the ones of him so you didn’t have to see him anymore.” You turned around to meet the eyes of your brother who shared the same kind eyes as you- he hadn’t always been the same either. You both were kind of jerks throughout high school but you’d heard everything Steve had gone through when he confessed it all to you back in the spring. Scars littered his face, and you felt bad you hadn’t been home for him, but you had to be careful about leaving Charlie.
“Thanks. You can just leave everything else in the moving van, I’ll get the rest of my stuff out tomorrow and we can return the van.” You smiled at him and he dropped the bags you’d packed with your essentials and favorite clothes. You had too much stuff to fly back with, and it was only a three hour drive across the states to come back home. It gave the two of you plenty of time to talk in person, and you were shocked at how well the little town had been put back together after the “earthquake.”
Steve left you alone and you were quick to unpack, wanting to make sure your room felt like yours again as quickly as it could. You had some artwork from your apartment in Chicago you were itching to hang on the walls, but you were going to wait for that until another day.
“There you are!” Your moms screeching voice echoed through your room and you greeted her with a hug- one of the first ones in a year, and quickly gave your dad one too. Neither of them were happy about you and Charlie’s split, especially since you were due to be married in December, but once you spared the details of the relationship they were understanding and welcomed you back home to get back on your feet. Your mom used to be close with Charlie’s mom, and apparently still was, so you two had bickered a few times before moving back saying she needed to understand the severity of the situation and that you were to not have any contact with his family if you could help it.
Being a Harrington had a lot tied to it. You were one of the better known families in the town- your dad was a businessman who dealt in everyone’s business in the town, so in turn everyone knew your business too. You were the pride and joy since Steve had not made good enough grades to attend a better university, but now you knew it was because he was too busy fighting in an underworld dimension similar to that of your Dungeons and Dragons days.
That’s right- you used to be a nerd. Before you were graciously accepted onto the cheerleading squad your freshman year of high school, and welcomed into Hawkins High royalty, you’d been best friends with Eddie Munson, he was a grade behind you but the two of you were inseparable since you were young. The “freak” of the town as he was known now- but you hadn’t seen him since you left, and even before that you two hadn’t spoken much unless it was your old friends, saying mean things and pretending that you didn’t care about him. Your family name pressured you into becoming what you had- a scholar, a cheerleader, and one of the queens of the school. But all of that was behind you now. You barely scraped by your last year of college because of your horrible relationship, and you were back at home living at your semi-absent parents house. You knew they were disappointed in you, but they hadn’t exactly expressed that just yet.
“Dinner should be ready by 6, I’ve just got to throw a few things together.” Your mom told you, you knew she wanted you to come down and help her but after being in a car for three hours, that was the last thing you wanted to do. She excused herself with your dad and left you alone in your room again. You hung up a few dresses in your closet and came across your old cheerleading uniform that was still hanging in the back corner, untouched and still perfectly ironed. You scoffed as you pushed it further back, hating the memories tied to the article of clothing.
“Hey, we’re all going to watch movies tonight at Eddie’s house if you wanna come. Robin’s picking out a few from the store and I said we’d grab some beer on the way.” Hearing his name stopped you in your tracks. Steve had told you Eddie had been in on the Upside Down shenanigans in the spring- told you of how he had almost died, but the thought hadn’t crossed your mind that the two actually still hung out together even though Steve had mentioned it before. You felt sure Eddie wouldn’t want you there, not after how mean your friends had been to him in your four years of high school, so the suggestion made you feel odd about going over there.
“I uh- I hadn’t planned on seeing him, really. Does he know I’m back?” You pushed the empty suitcase underneath your bed and twisted a piece of brown hair around your finger nervously.
“Yeah, he knows. He seems… open to you coming over to hang out. And you need to meet and see everyone because they’re going to be your best friends too.”
“And how do you know that?”
“Pfft, who else do you have to hang out with?” You scoffed at his remark even though it was true. You had no desire to talk or see anyone from your past. Whether it was out of shame or anger, you were not really planning on rekindling any old high school friendships. Once you had some clarity of how much you had changed yourself to fit the Hawkins mold they wanted you to fit, you felt angry that you’d let your parents control that much of who you were despite how little they were actually involved in your life. “Right, so we’ll leave after dinner.” He patted your door frame twice before he trudged back to his room.
Dinner was awkward as expected, your parents were the worst at small talk and even worse at being comforting. You avoided talking about Charlie all together, thankfully, and your parents weren’t rushing you to search for a job anytime soon to give you a little bit of a break after school.
“So you’re going to the Munson’s house?” Your mom asked you with her eyebrows raised.
“Yeah, Robin picked out a few movies to watch like we do every Thursday.” Every Thursday? You eyed your brother and he averted his gaze to the candles in the middle of the table.
“So you see hi-them every week?”
“Week? More like every day. Those kids can’t get enough of Steve. He’s always chauffeuring them around town.” You’d heard about him and the “kids,” but you were still a little shocked to know that your brother was that good of friends with your old best friend who you were pretty sure hated you- he’d left that out.
“Always the babysitter.” Steve muttered to himself as he cleared his plate.
“Are you done yet, sweetie?” Your moms sticky voice chimed in as you looked at your food that you hadn’t yet finished, “you can come to some aerobic classes with me if you want so you can work off that college weight.”
“Yeah, I’m done.” You pushed your plate forward and got up, eating a few bites as you walked the plate to the sink. “Jesus Christ, now I remember why I hated coming home.”
“Yeah, they haven’t changed much. Don’t let it get to you. You look fine.” You knew you did, but your moms comments had always been so negative about your appearance and your weight. Steve definitely got the better metabolism of you two, and your mom tried to control your eating habits all throughout high school the best she could. Charlie was no help either, so when the two of you broke up you had sought therapy and had been working on your own eating habits since you were on your own for a few months after the breakup. It was freeing, so it was going to be hard to be under the watchful eyes of your mom again- when she was home. “C’mon, let’s grab some beer.” Steve grabbed the keys to his BMW and you followed him out, saying a quick goodbye to your parents.
“Fuck them.” You sighed as you buckled your seatbelt.
Steve agreed as he drove to the corner store and grabbed a pack of beer, driving to Eddie’s house.
“So, Eddie and Wayne’s trailer got destroyed in the uh, thing.” Steve haphazardly waved his hand in the air, “and Hawkins basically paid Eddie and Wayne to keep their mouth shut by giving them a new home.” He commented as he drove in a different direction than what you remember his old trailer being. Eddie hadn’t always lived with his uncle Wayne- his mom had died, and his dad was a felon and lost custody of him at a young age. You’d known him before he moved in with Wayne and stuck by him through all of the years he had trouble adjusting, and had grown close with Wayne since you were at their house so much.
You pulled up to a small brick house that looked much homier than the trailer they used to rent, and you could see amber lights glowing from the inside. You took a deep breath before you stepped out of the car and followed Steve to the front door, walking around a few other cars that were parked in the yard.
“He’s not mean and scary- you’ve got nothing to worry about. You’re the mean and scary one to him, remember?” Like you needed reminding- your plan for the night was to blend in and remain quiet, and go as unnoticed as possible.
“HARRINGTON!” The boy’s voice was unmistakable. It was deeper than you remember, but still somehow the same. He greeted your brother with a huge hug and you were unsure of what to do, so you quietly passed by the two guys and stepped foot into the kitchen hoping someone else was in there. Nancy, Jonathan, and Robin were all standing in the kitchen with beers already, and they greeted you similarly with big hugs and smiles. You’d known them through your brother and the few times you had been “allowed” back home.
“How was the drive?” Robin asked you as she took the beer from you and put it in the fridge, but not before you grabbed one for yourself and Steve.
“Not nearly as bad as dinner with my parents.”
“Ugh, I can’t imagine being stuck in a car with Steve for three hours. Working with him for that long is bad enough.” Robin remarked and you all laughed.
“Shut it, Buckley. We work 8 hour shifts together all the time.” Steve brushed through the kitchen to grab a drink for himself and you handed him his as Eddie peered around his shoulder.
“Hey there.” Eddie wiggled his fingers at you in a wave, and you hesitated before you walked over to him to give him a small hug.
“Hey.” Was all you said as he froze before he returned the hug, matching the lightness of the embrace you gave him. You noted that he still smelled the same, except you could smell weed and cigarettes on him now that he was older, and it seemed like he’d tried to cover the smell up a little with some cologne.
“So, I got a few different movie genres for us tonight, come on!” Robin broke the awkwardness and you jumped back from Eddie, avoiding his gaze and followed Robin into the living room where the rest of the kids were already lounging waiting for your arrival. You were introduced to everyone, a few you recognized and a few you didn’t. There was a large age gap, but you knew all their names from Steve’s storytelling, and a few from their faces when you’d been back home briefly.
You felt the tension in the air as you watched the people file into what you assumed were their normal seats until all that was left was a two seater leather chair. Eddie held out his hand for you to sit, “it’s usually mine, but you can take it tonight.” You sat down in it and took a few sips of your beer and motioned for him to sit down.
“I don’t bite, you can sit too.” You continued sipping your beer as the kids sorted through movies and finally decided on a horror film, and Eddie made himself comfortable beside you. You noticed he had tattoos and scars peering out from the sleeves of his Iron Maiden t-shirt as his arms rested comfortably at his sides beside you.
“Long time no see, Harrington.” He said as he shot you a charming smirk, and you were met with the same chocolate brown eyes as you remember from your childhood.
“Can say the same, Munson.” You brought the cold bottle up to your lips and finished off your first beer with a smirk. He grabbed the empty bottle from you and took it to the kitchen, and returned quickly with another one for you- already opened.
“Before the movie starts I’m going to step outside to partake in some real fun. You’re more than welcome to join, or you can stay inside- the choice is yours.” He invited you in his dramatic voice, and you chuckled to yourself as you followed him outside.
“Thought I smelled weed on you.” You muttered as you stepped out onto the back porch.
“Oh, you smoke now?” He smirked as he lit a joint and took a big hit before passing it to you.
You inhaled the weed into your lungs and held it there before you could even think of something to say to him. Do you apologize? Shoot the shit with him? You literally hadn’t spoken a kind word to him since freshman year, so this felt painfully uncomfortable for you to be out here. You were quickly regretting your decision to follow him.
“Yeaaaah.” You took another hit and held it in before passing it back to him. You watched as he propped himself against the porch railing and looked at you with his eyelids hooded, “Eddie, I don’t even know where to start.”
He held his hands out beside him, “I got all night to listen.”
“You’d want to?” You were shocked.
“I mean, I do believe- if I remember correctly, you owe me a bunch of apologies.” He seemed like he was unphased by your presence. You felt more intimidated by him than anything.
“Ha, yeah.” You sat down in one of the porch chairs, “Just so you know, first off, I’m really sorry for how much of a bitch I was to you.”
“Go on.” He motioned to you as he sipped his beer with a proud smirk on his face.
“And I totally understand if you hate me.”
“Well, I don’t, so…” He said through a chuckle.
“I don’t know what got into me in high school. I let myself be bullied into being a bully and I hate that you were one of the targets. You didn’t deserve that. I realized I was being who everyone else wanted me to be and not who I really was, and lost the people that actually cared about me the most. All of those friends were so fucking fake to me- and would you believe Charlie came home on a ‘work trip’ and cheated on me with Grace of all people?”
“I sure would. What a cunt.”
You let out a groan, “I can’t believe I wasted so many years with that jerk.”
“So, what’s your plan now that you’re back?”
You shrugged as you sipped on your drink, and held a hand up to the joint being passed back to you. “I guess just see what I can find to do here with a degree.”
“You always were such a smarty pants. I finally graduated, you know?”
“Yeah, Steve told me.” You leaned back in the chair and looked up at the night sky. “He actually told me everything. Like, about-“
“Oh shit, I didn’t know that.” Eddie moved to the seat beside you, a tiny table separating you two.
“I wanted to come back, and see you and make sure you were okay but Charlie wouldn’t let me. That was kind of the end of it all. I had to push through graduation, get a new place, and get enough evidence on him to get a restraining order against him before I could get all my stuff and go. You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to get one when you’re with someone like him.” You let out another scoff, “sorry- you didn’t need to hear that.”
“You can still talk to me.” He kindly smiled at you and you returned one to him.
“I was really nervous about coming here tonight. Thanks for not being a jerk, like I was.”
“I mean, you definitely hurt my feelings some but I knew that wasn’t really you. Been called a lot worse than freak.”
“I can’t believe the whole town thought you were a murderer? I mean- you?”
“You’re telling me. I still don’t know how Hopper convinced everyone it was Jason and got me cleared.”
“I just feel so bad I wasn’t here for everything going on, I always knew this place was cursed. How… bad off were you?”
Without saying a word, Eddie lifted his shirt up and showed you. You could see the scars in the dim light of the moon and the porch light, and you can only imagine the pain he’d been in recovering.
“Bats did that?”
“No, fucking demobats. They were huge. Had these long crazy tails, and I thought I could fight them off to save your brother and the others some time.” Eddie’s voice was not his usual expressive tone, he was more somber and serious.
“You did though.” You pulled your feet up into your seat and looked over at Eddie adjusting his tshirt back into place.
“Yeah, and barely made it out alive. I blacked out and woke up in Hopper’s cabin in the woods. Couldn’t get real help in the hospital because I was wanted for murder still, somehow avoided infection and am left with these killer scars.”
“Pretty badass looking if you ask me.” You said, feeling the beer and weed loosening you up a little bit.
“Eh, I had to take a break from playing for a little. But we’re back at the Hideout now - we got moved to Saturday nights since we draw such a crowd now. It used to be Tuesday.”
“Yeah, I remember.” You said quickly.
“Do you?” He raised an eyebrow at you.
“Just because I was a jerk to you didn’t mean I didn’t know anything about you Eddie. You were my best friend. I kept some tabs on you even though I was in a different crowd. I snuck into a few shows my senior year and hung out in the back.” You blushed at the admittance. “What year was that for you? How did they even let you guys play so young?”
“We were just that good, sweetheart.” He let the nickname roll off his young so easily it caught you by surprise. Wayne used to call you that and you readjusted in your seat at Eddie using the endearing name for you.
“So you’ll be playing this Saturday?”
“Mhm. Got Hellfire Club tomorrow night at the record store.”
“What?! You still play?!”
“Still play? I’m the dungeon master. We have club every week at the record store on Friday nights. I kinda run the store now. Like, uh, that’s my job. I manage it and teach guitar lessons. Just started lessons about two months ago and my afternoons are booked solid.” He was beaming with pride and excitement when he met your eyes.
“That’s amazing. Can I come by? It’s been a while so I might just watch, but I won’t get in the way.”
“Absolutely.” He squeezed his eyebrows together. “You’re welcome Saturday night too.”
“Ah, I may be booked. Have a lot of friends to reconnect with, you know?” You both laughed at your sarcasm and let the silence become comfortable as you both looked around at the quiet piece of land Eddie’s house was on. “Thanks again for not being a jerk. I really do deserve it.”
“No, you don’t. I appreciate the apologies and I missed having you around. Steve’s not my favorite Harrington, believe it or not.”
“I still am?”
“No, your mom is.” He said with a serious expression before he busted out laughing at the shocked look on your face. “Just kidding. I’m willing to put the past aside if it means I can have my friend back. I know a lot of things are different now, but I don’t think you need to be alone right now, you could use a friend, yeah?”
“More than you know. Thank you, Eddie.” You reached out and grabbed his hand, giving it a soft squeeze.
“Wanna join them or just stay out here all night?”
“Honestly I wouldn’t mind staying out here if that’s alright with you.” You spoke quietly as you crossed your arms, the September chill was setting in but you were not going to ask for a blanket, and you were too comfortable to get up.
“I’ll grab us another drink and blanket and we can just stay out here? Don’t go anywhere.” He held his hands out for you to stay put and you laughed at his silliness, his welcoming personality hadn’t changed much and it was just what you needed tonight.
He returned moments later, “your blanket, my kind lady.” He draped the warm fleece over your lap and you thanked him as he opened the beer bottle for you.
You and Eddie spent two hours together talking and laughing, sharing stories and filling in puzzle pieces where your lives had gone different paths. As the night came to an end you realized you weren’t so mad about having to come back home, and you were glad your path had crossed Eddie’s once again.
-
“So, seems like you two got along pretty well last night.” Steve said as he drove you back home from dropping off the van you had rented.
“Yeah, I guess. He said he’s going to pick me up before Hellfire tonight so we can go get dinner before the game.”
“I’ve got a date tonight, so you think he can bring you back home too? I might be gone all night, who knows.”
You shrugged at your brother, “Probably so. I don’t see why that would be a problem.” You two walked into your house together, the echo of the door shutting could be heard throughout the house. Your parents had already left to go out of town on another business trip, too busy to stay back and spend any time with you - but you honestly weren’t even bothered. It was a relief to know you wouldn’t have to hear their remarks about anything.
The hours passed quickly leading up to the time when Eddie said he’d pick you up, and you heard the front door squeak open and closed again. Heavy footsteps were heard going up the stairs and you tried to pretend like you were still getting ready when Eddie knocked on your doorframe.
“Safe to come in?” He asked, pushing the door open to look inside.
“Wouldn’t matter, you’re already opening the door. Just finishing up getting ready, then I’ll be ready to go. Steve’s in his room if you wanna go talk to him.” You pointed to his room and Eddie stepped inside of your room instead.
“Nah, I’m here to see you.” He walked around your room with his hands on his hips, looking at all of your old posters and pictures that remained on the walls. All of the ones with him in them had been replaced by ones with your high school friends- the fake ones.
“I’m going to get around to taking those down. I don’t need any reminders of the past, Steve already took down the ones with Charlie.” He nodded quietly as he inspected each of them like he’d never seen them before- which, come to think of it, he probably hadn’t.
“You really changed, huh?” He said as he admired your senior prom picture with the group of varsity cheerleaders. You had worn a hot pink dress and your hair was teased to the high heavens. “You look uh, more like yourself tonight.” He motioned to your outfit- some light wash jeans and a fitted black tshirt. You had found an old black denim jacket of Steve’s so you had decided it was now yours since he decided to store it in your closet.
“Feel more like myself now too. You ready to go?” You touched up your light layer of lip gloss as you stood up from your vanity, and little to your knowledge but Eddie had to recollect his thoughts before he could answer.
“Born ready. Let’s go eat. Diner or pizza?”
“Like that’s even a question. Diner.” You said with a smile as you followed the tall boy with crazy, curly hair out of your room.
-
After you two finished your greasy burgers and fries, you walked to the old record shop. It had survived the town splitting in half, but barely, and it had been repainted black instead of the old ugly brick it used to be. Eddie unlocked the front door, turned the lights on and held his hands out to welcome you to the store.
“Welcome, welcome. If I may be of any assistance to any record purchases, I’m available for help. If not, I’m going to be in the back setting up for tonight. If any of the kids walk in, just send them back here.” You nodded as you found yourself picking through the labels of the records. They’d been nearly categorized by genre, then alphabetical order. You browsed while you heard Eddie rummaging around in the back room, and decided to go watch him.
He didn’t notice you had walked in the room, and you were all but mesmerized by the way he was neatly unpacking and setting up the game table for tonight in the spacious back room. He was talking to himself and checking things off his checklist in his mind, and you thought it was endearing how much thought he was putting into the set up. It had become a lot more complex from when the two of you had first started playing as kids.
“Like what you see?” His voice caught you off guard and you shook yourself out of your trance and walked further into the room. “Wanna join in?”
You shook your head as you felt your ponytail bounce, “no, I’m fine just watching tonight. Maybe another time.”
“Beer’s in the fridge, grab me one too.” He asked and smiled at you as you fetched the beverages for yourselves. He was moving chairs all around, and added one to beside the one at the head of the table, “you can be assistant to the DM tonight- how’s that sound?”
“Perfect.” You sipped on the cold beer and smiled as he handed you the plan for tonight’s game, and you read over the pages containing gameplay details that you hadn’t thought about in years. You looked up from the papers to find Eddie staring at you, and it was his turn to blush- except he held eye contact with you and didn’t look away, which made you blush harder than him.
You didn’t know why Eddie was being so kind to you. He had let you back into his circle again, no questions asked and no hard feelings that you knew of.
“What?” You asked, the room was quiet and he was still staring at you.
“Nothing, it’s nothing.” He shook his curly head of hair and proceeded to go to the front of the store to wait on everyone’s arrival.
One by one the kids all arrived and you were happy to see Jeff and Gareth too- they were hesitant to greet you, but one look at Eddie and they knew you weren’t there for the wrong reason.
You took your seat beside Eddie at the head of the table and listened as he told them about the new campaign they were starting tonight. You were captivated by his deep voice and his animated actions as he told the details of the storyline. He plopped back in his seat as he watched everyone around the table decide on their first move. He had one of those full face smiles on- the type that reached the crinkles in his eyes, and you realized he’d always had those, but they were much deeper now than you remembered.
“This one’s gonna be good.” He turned to you and you nodded, “you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just glad to be back. Feels a little weird.”
His hand patted your thigh with what felt like searing heat, and he rested it there for a few seconds, “Relax. I already told you that it’s all okay. We’re starting fresh, but not really, like we talked about last night, m’kay?” You nodded, and he lightly squeezed your thigh before releasing it and turning back to the table.
The game went on for hours, you were so entertained by the enthusiasm of the kids and Eddie, it was really a heartwarming night for you after the previous night had started off a little awkward and rocky. It honestly felt like so many years had passed.
“You seemed like you were having fun.” Eddie said as he started up his van.
“It was fun to watch again, I seriously don’t think I've played since… well, since I made the cheerleading squad for freshman year.”
“That’s a damn shame. You were always the best.”
“No way! I was only decent. I sucked at cheerleading. I only made it because my parents funded the school’s athletic programs, paving the way for me and Steve to be successful.” You joked, picking at the rips in your jeans. “Thanks for picking me up and taking me home tonight, I really appreciate it. I had fun, the record store looks amazing too.”
You watched Eddie’s face blush pink, “Not a problem. It’s uh, it’s been nice seeing you again.”
“Yeah, it has.” You looked out the window and watched as your surroundings became more familiar the closer you got to your house. The rest of the ride was silent except for Eddie’s radio playing Metallica in the background, and his thumbs drumming along to the beat of every song. When you pulled up, your driveway was empty. You had assumed Steve’s date had gone well. “You wanna come inside and hang for a bit? Steve’s on a date, my parents are on another work trip, and I’m not feeling like being alone in the big house. If you need to get home, I understand it’s late but-”
“I’ll come in. I’ve got nowhere else to be. Wayne’s working tonight.” Eddie turned the ignition off as he parked on the street in front of your house, and you waited for him to round the front before you walked in together.
“Help yourself to a beer if you want another one, dad’s got plenty in the fridge. I’m going to head upstairs and change into pajamas and I’ll be back down.” He gave you a thumbs up and you heard the fridge door rattle as you made it up to your bedroom. You changed into an old pair of shorts and oversized shirt, headed downstairs, and found Eddie had settled onto the large leather couch in the living room with the tv on. The clock read 1:30, but you weren’t feeling too tired.
“Think Steve will make it back tonight?” He asked without looking up from the screen.
“No idea. It’s still early, I don’t know what he can find to do in Hawkins this late but more power to him if he’s out there.” You said as you sat down on the opposite end of the couch, pulling a blanket over your lap. He’d settled on some movie and you were paying attention to it, when he nudged you with his beer bottle and you took it without question and had a few sips, then handed it back to him.
“What’s going on in that head?” He turned to face you and you sighed.
“Not much, honestly. I feel defeated to be back here. There isn’t much here, no offense, and I didn’t see myself ending up here again. But here I am.” You sighed again, a little anger appearing in your chest, “I’m just so mad at Charlie, you know?”
“Are you mad at Charlie, or mad at yourself?”
You shot your eyes at Eddie and gave him a look. “I-I’m mad at…him. He was a piece of shit, Eddie. Everyone warned me. Well, not everyone. But Steve did. You didn’t like him. None of the people with a single brain cell or more liked the guy. I can’t believe we were engaged.” You shivered as if you were grossed out at the thought.
“Engaged?! I didn’t know it was that serious.” He took a swig from the beer.
“I mean, I moved to Chicago for him. School was just… the excuse. I was pretty serious about him, we were supposed to get married in December but I called it off in the spring. ‘Good’ family, reputation, all that shit my mom cares about.”
“But nothing that you care about.” Eddie finished your thought.
“Bingo.” You said as you scooted closer, grabbing the beer from him. “I don’t even know what I care about anymore now that I’m out of the relationship and that shitty situation.”
“A shituation is what I like to call that.” You busted out laughing at Eddie’s joke and it felt good to let go and laugh like that. You hadn’t in a while. Well, you had last night but that was several beers in so you would’ve laughed at almost anything.
“You asked me what my plans were, what are yours?” You turned the subject around on Eddie.
He shrugged, “I hope the band takes off soon. It’s taken me a while to recover from… everything. I still haven’t really come to terms with all of it, so it’s hard to think too far into the future.”
“That’s fair.” You stole the beer and took a sip, then handed it back to him. “What about you and the ladies?”
He scoffed and threw his head back “I mean, it took me three years to finish high school, I play D&D in the breakroom of the music store weekly with kids that still go to high school, I play in a metal band, and my body is covered in scars. Doing really great for myself in that department, Harrington.”
You felt bad for asking as he finished off the beer and got up to grab another, but you genuinely had no idea. After you moved, you hadn’t heard much about Eddie so you really didn’t know. He reappeared with two more and offered one to you with raised eyebrows, and you took it. When he sat down, he was a few inches closer to you and you could feel the warmth of his legs against yours.
“Sorry, I-”
“You didn’t know. It’s okay.” He seemed to have calmed down quickly, but you still felt bad. “There’s been a few, but nothing serious. Not really much to offer here.” You wanted to say there was because you knew Eddie better than most did, but you kept your mouth shut and moved on.
“I can’t believe that there was just this whole other world below Hawkins this whole time… and none of us knew it.” You stared at the coffee table in front of you. “I wish I-”
“No, no, no. Don’t you say you wish you could’ve been here.” Eddie was getting riled up as he readjusted on the couch, “I wouldn't have wished what I saw on anyone. Especially you.”
“No, I mean, I just hate that I left here without any care. I just wish Steve would’ve told me that it was going on.”
“Probably scared you would’ve tried to come back. Harrington's love to try to be the hero, you know that?”
“Yeah, yeah. So I’ve been told.” You let out a scoff as you rolled your eyes.
“Jesus, you two are so much alike.” Eddie commented and you hadn’t realized he was staring at you. “Such an attitude on both of you.”
“Oh, yeah?” You challenged him.
“Yeah.” Eddie tucked a leg under him and turned to face you, scooting even closer. “Big ole heads full of pretty hair, ego, and a whole lot of attitude that comes along with it.” He reached out to push a few pieces of hair behind your ear that had fallen out of your ponytail throughout the day, and drug his thumb across the edge of your jawline.
“But my hair is prettier, right?” You asked quietly, feeling the nerve to see what you could get away with.
“Oh, absolutely. Everything about you is prettier.” His hand lingered on your jaw and he quickly drew it back at the sound of a car door slamming shut outside. He kept his eye contact with you, as if he were timing exactly how long it would take for Steve to walk through the front door and he was spot on as he jumped back and sunk into the couch as if you two had been sitting feet apart the whole night.
“How was your night, Stevie?” He asked with a smirk as Steve shut the door.
“What are you doing here so late, Munson?” Steve asked, annoyed at the presence of his friend.
“Just keeping me company since this house is so empty. Stole a few of dad’s beers, I don’t think he’ll mind.”
He looked between the two of you before he scoffed and rolled his eyes, “I’m going to bed. ‘Night.”
“There’s that Harrington attitude we all love!” Eddie yelled up the stairs and Steve held up his middle finger in response. “I think I’ll head out now.” He announced as he stood up and stretched, his shirt rising a bit above his plaid boxers you’d already spotted a few times tonight during the game.
“See you tomorrow night?” You asked as you walked him to the door.
“Yeah? I’ll pick you up again if you want. I don’t think you want to go there by yourself. Usually Buckley and your brother show up at some point but who knows with the stick he’s got up his ass tonight if he’ll come tomorrow.”
“Sounds good. What time? I’m free…” you looked at your watch, “all day.”
“Well, some of us are contributing members to society now and have jobs so, I’ll come pick you up when I’m off at 2?” You blushed, realizing how eager you were seeming to see him. “Can’t get enough of me, can you?”
“Yeah, uh, two sounds great.” You stuttered out.
“Perfect. We have practice at Gareth’s before, I can have them move it to 3 so I can have time to get you.” Eddie seemed unphased by your nervousness, or at least he was playing it cool and not pointing it out.
“See you then, Munson.” You waved him off and watched him walk to his van.
“Later, Harrington.” He yelled out without looking back at you, just giving a wave to the air.
You shut the large wood door and collapsed your back against it, closing your eyes and sighing. “Fuck.” You were screwed. Since when did you feel like this about Eddie? How did you feel about him? Why did he make you blush, and so nervous?
“No game, big sis. No game at all.” Steve spoke from the top of the stairs.
“Oh my God, Steve. Go away!”
“You’ve got a crush. A big one. Don’t you?”
“Steve!” You yelled his name after you locked the front door and turned the lights off, Eddie’s grumbling van could no longer be heard outside. “I do not.”
“Do too. And he does too.” He pointed at the closed door, “He always has. You’re just blind.”
“What?” You felt like the air was gone from your lungs.
“Uh, yeah?” He raised his eyebrows as you walked up the stairs to your bedroom and where Steve was perched. “I read your old diaries while you were gone. There’s way too much in those about Eddie for you to not have a crush on him. And he, get a couple more beers in him and my God, the boy will not shut up about you. He was non-stop talking and asking questions about when you were gonna be back and what you would be doing and-”
“Okay, chatty Cathy. I get it. But I don’t have a crush on him.” You pushed past him and made it to your bedroom, “How was your date?”
“Not answering that until you confess your crush on Munson. Night, sis.” Steve shut his bedroom door before you could say anything and you followed suit, your hands immediately reaching to feel the blush in your cheeks.
Maybe you did. But that was fast, or was it?

Daring to be truthful (Eddie Munson x Reader fluff)
Thanks to this text post from @mcbeanzontoast I had to write a little something about it so here it is.
Word Count:1,584
Warnings:Badly written fluff, games of truth or dare, nosebleeds (but nothing graphic don’t worry), confessions of love, best friends to lovers, don’t think I’m missing anything? but let me know if I am so I can tag it
It was Steve’s idea to host a get-together for the group, shared trauma brought people together or something like that, you reasoned. The drinks had been steadily flowing as the group settled down in front of the huge tv that resided in the Harrington’s spacious living room. Steve had brought a few tapes home with him after his shift at family video and somewhere between Top Gun followed by Labyrinth, which was an odd route to go down for a movie night, but everyone seemed to go along with it nonetheless. Nancy and Jonathan had snuck away after she had climbed down from her space curled into him on his lap. It wasn’t long before he was hot on her heels, quietly tip-toeing out of the room with a blush rising to his cheeks.
With the happy couple now gone, it was only you, Robin, Steve and Eddie in the living room. The sounds of the movie now going largely ignored, fading into background noise.
Robin downs the last few sips of beer from her bottle as she speaks up
“Let’s play truth or dare” she suggests, her freckled features rosy with the buzz of alcohol.
“What are we, twelve years old or something?” Steve scoffs, taking a sip from his bottle.
“Scared of a little game, Stevie?” Robin teases.
“Alright then, I’m game if everyone else is. God knows I don’t have anything to hide.” Steve professed.
“Okay then, Steve..” you turn to look up at him from where you sat on the floor. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth”
“Is it true that you use Farrah Fawcett hairspray?” you snickered as you asked him the question.
“Jill? from Charlie’s Angels?” Robin squawked out between laughs.
Steve’s face burned bright red, how did you know about that?
“I bet Dustin told you, didn’t he. That kid couldn’t keep a secret if his life depended on it” Steve started.
“Actually, I told her.” Eddie speaks up. “Admittedly after Dustin told me. You know I can’t be keeping secrets from my best friend, right?” he chuckles, a cheeky grin spreading across his face.
“So it’s true?” Robin asked.
“Yeah..Yeah laugh it up, alright. It’s true” he confesses, ducking his head down with a small laugh of his own.
“Truth or dare?” Eddie asks you from where he’s lounging in one of the living room’s big sofa chairs.
“Truth.” Eddie practically knew everything about you anyway, this was going to be easy.
“What was the worst date you’ve ever been on?” he asks you, his grin stretching across his lips. Fucker. Eddie knew all too well of the story of the worst date of your life, remembering how you told him how your date had not only showed up 20 minutes late with no explanation or reason why, and that he then proceeded to talk all about his ex-girlfriend, and how he’s probably still be with her if she hadn’t found about the other girl he was secretly seeing behind her back. Needless to say there wasn’t a second date.
“Oh my god! That’s awful! Sounds like you dodged a bullet there, y/nl” Robin chuckled.
“Yeah it was all downhill from the moment he opened his mouth” you joined in, laughing at your own story.
____________________
The night went on like that, swapping stories, like how Robin was almost late for band practise because she had been making out with Vickie in the school’s auditorium, or the fact that Eddie on more than one occasion had been completely wasted whilst performing on stage at the hideout.
As well as challenging each other to do increasing stupid dares. Watching Steve try to swallow an entire spoonful of cinnamon had been a particularly amusing highlight of yours.
But Robin, who, at this point was not handling her drink very well, had dared Eddie to show-off his best metal head-banging, things had taken a turn.
The force with how much Eddie was showing off his best head-banging air guitar routine, had caused Eddie to have a nose bleed.
By now Robin was stumbling around and Steve had made the executive decision to wrangle her from where she was standing on wobbly legs on the couch cushions of the sofa.
"Are sure you guys are gonna be okay down here whilst I try to get this one to bed?" Steve asked as he held up Robin's swaying frame.
"I've got it from here Steve, you go look after Robin" You assured, watching as Steve carefully manoeuvred his friend up the stairs, before taking Eddie by the hand and leading him into the Harrington’s kitchen.
“Here..” you say, handing him a bunch of tissues. “Tip your head forward and pinch your nose. That should help stop the bleeding” you say.
“Thanks, you don’t have to help me, I’ll be alright.” he muffles from behind the tissues scrunched up under his nose.
“What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t help and look after you when you needed it, huh?” you smiled at him.
After a while, Eddie’s nosebleed seemed to have stopped. With a cool damp cloth you begin to clean away the dried blood from his face.
“Y’know I never got to ask you the truth question I wanted to ask you” you say whilst dabbing the cloth against his skin.
“I don’t think that’s quite how truth or dare works, sweetheart.” Eddie teases. “I think I’m supposed to choose?”
“Okay, I know but can I ask you my question anyway?” you ask hopefully, bright eyes looking up at him.
“You can ask me anything, no secrets between us, right?” That wasn't strictly true. He did have one secret, one that he kept very close to his heart. That secret was just how big of a crush that he had on you. You two had been friends for as long as he can remember. Wherever Eddie went you followed and vice versa. It wasn’t often one of you was seen without the other. He never wanted to ruin the friendship that you two had, that relationship was one of the most important things in his life, but he couldn’t help his heart ruling his head, and the thoughts of holding you close and kissing your lips came to mind more often than he’d care to admit to.
However, what Eddie wasn’t aware of was that despite all his pining over you, and trying to keep his affections for you hidden, you very much loved him in the same way.
Maybe it was childish to think of your best friend like that. Daydreaming about holding his hand, going on dates to the movies and kissing his lips whenever you wanted, but you couldn’t help it. Eddie Munson had been it for you ever since you’d first laid eyes on him all those years ago.
“What’s something you would do if you knew there would be no consequences?” you asked.
Maybe it was the buzz of the alcohol, or the comfort of being in such close proximity to you, but as usual, Eddie’s mouth was moving faster than his brain could keep up with. Without hesitation, he blurts out,
“Kiss you.”
The boldness of his answer shocks you for a moment. That’s all you’ve ever wanted to hear from him, your heart racing from the thrill of it all.
“I dare you.” you whisper, not quite yet trusting your own voice. “Kiss me.”
He leans down to you, cupping your cheek in his large hand, his clunky metal rings are a welcomed chill against the flush of your heated skin. His big brown eyes look deep in yours before he closes the gap between the two of you.
He tentatively presses his lips to yours in an delicate exploratory kiss, the tip of his nose slightly bumping against yours. His lips are surprisingly soft, with just the slightly bitter tang of beer. You can’t help but smile against his lips, having dreamed about kissing for so long and now it was actually happening, setting the butterflies in your stomach fluttering. You never wanted it to end.
He pulls away from you, his brown eyes are soft on you as his smile spreads across his lips.
“Y’know, since we’re being all truthful and shit..I’m gonna be honest here and say I’ve always wanted to do that.” Eddie confesses.
“Well I suppose I owe you the truth, too. I’ve always wanted to kiss you too...” you say looking down to your feet, shyly. “..But more than that, I’ve been in love with you for the longest time, Eddie.” you finish, looking up to him hopefully.
“Well you know I don’t just go around kissing girls without it meaning something to me, sweetheart..” he says with a smile. “I love you too, have been ever since I laid eyes on you.”
“So what does that make us now? Because I don’t think I can go back to being just friends.”
“Well how about we try being boyfriend and girlfriend?” Eddie offered. He’d wanted to call you his girlfriend for so long that the only title felt natural to him.
“Yeah I like the sound of that, Eds”
“Only if we can still be best friends too. Don’t think that because you’re my girlfriend now, that doesn’t mean you’re not still my best friend.” he assured.
“I’d like that Ed.” you perch up on your tip-toes to press one more quick kiss to his lips. “I’d like that a lot.”

Spooky Family - Fox Mulder X Female Reader
Tumblr media
Title: Spooky Family
Fox Mulder X Female Reader
Additional Characters: Scully, Jodie (OC), Charlie (OC), and Stevie (OC)
WC: 1,576
Warnings: X-File stuff mentioned, teasing, some super cute stuff going on here
Scully let out a sigh as she left the building, Mulder in tow. Her shoulders dropped in relief, digging her hand into her pocket to grab her keys. Scully and Mulder had just finished another X-File, it wasn't as bad as most of their cases had been over the years. But it was over, finally, and Scully was just ready to go home. But the thought of driving another four hours made her frown.
Mulder jogged up to walk beside her, bringing his hand out to her, palm up. "Keys." He spoke, as Scully looked at him with furrowed eyebrows.
"What, why Mulder? I thought I was driving back to D.C.?" She asked and Mulder shook his head.
"We need to make a quick stop." He spoke, before Scully reluctantly tossed him the keys as they made it to the car.
Opening the passenger side door, Scully paused, "Did you run out of sunflower seeds?" She asked and Mulder didn't say a word, just hopping in the driver's seat. Scully pursed his lips, sitting down and shutting the door. As Mulder began to drive, Scully tried to figure out where they were going. Asking Mulder wasn't really seemingly going anywhere. And now, looking down at the cup holders, Mulder still had half a bag of sunflower seeds left.
Glancing over at him, Mulder's eyes were squinted slightly from the sun, and Scully knew she'd get no answer from him. She sighed and looked forward again as they drove through the streets. The drive was long, but it was less than an hour when they entered a suburban neighborhood. This made Scully even more confused, but she kept her mouth shut as Mulder pulled to a halt in front of a quaint house. It was a nice gray, two-story house, with a three-car garage, and large windows for natural light. The lawn was freshly mowed, and small flowers and bushes littered the outside of the home, obviously well taken care of.
Scully's brow creased again as she watched Mulder walk up the steps onto the porch, unlocking the door. So many questions were racing through her mind. Who lived here? Did Mulder live here? But he had an apartment, she thought. Did he know someone who lived here? Friends? Family? Maybe a parent? Grandparents? As she hesitantly entered the home behind Mulder, she was surprised to see a smile on his face, a real smile.
"Honey, I'm home!" He exclaimed, and Scully's eyes widened as two little kids came barreling down from a hallway, launching themselves right into Mulder's arms; they couldn't have been more than seven years old.
"Dad! You're home!" The little boy in his arms cheered, looking like an exact replica of his father, and it was the same for the little girl tugging on his pant leg.
"Yeah, Dad, I thought you were coming home tomorrow." The little girl replied, her brown hair in pigtails as she pushed up her thick-framed glasses.
"Well, kiddos, I decided to surprise your mom today." He placed his son back on the ground, "Now, Jodie, Charlie, say 'hello' to Scully."
The two kids, Scully guessed that they were both twins, looked up at her with big smiles, "Hi, Scully." Both Jodie and Charlie spoke in unison, before looking back at their dad.
"Now, where is your mother?" Mulder then asked, and Jodie hopped in her spot, filled with excitement.
Jodie pointed to somewhere in the house, "Momma's with Stevie." And to that, Mulder nodded, bending down to get on eye level with his two oldest children.
"Well, will you two go get your momma for me?" He asked, and the two kids nodded, before running off across the hardwood floor; almost slipping as they did so. Mulder sighed, watching them go as he stood up. Glancing at Scully, he almost laughed at her face; her jaw dropped and her eyes widened slightly.
"You have a family?" She abruptly asked, and Mulder nodded, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
"Yeah, sorry I didn't tell you... But with our job..."
Scully nodded, "I get it, Mulder." She smiled, looking off at the house around her, "I never thought you'd have a family." At her words, she instantly frowned, shaking her head, "No, I'm sorry. That was rude for me to say."
Mulder shook his own head, dismissing her with a wave of his hand, "No, no... I never thought I would have a family either. With the job I have. But... When I met Y/N..." He trailed off, not even finishing his sentence as a young woman, holding a small baby in her arms, walked out from another room, her two children trailing behind her.
You instantly smiled when you spotted your husband. "Fox, you're home early." You walked over, adjusting your baby boy Stevie in your arms, and pressing a kiss to his cheek. You then turned to meet Scully's gaze, giving her a smile, "And you must be Dana Scully. Fox has told me a lot about you." You spoke, offering your hand out to shake hers.
Scully let out a breathy laugh, shaking your hand, "All good things, I hope." She smiled, and you chuckled, nodding.
“Absolutely.”
Stevie suddenly babbled and reached out his little arms towards his dad, so you passed him off to Mulder. "Hi, Stevie," Mulder cooed softly, pressing a kiss to the baby's forehead, "How's my spooky baby?" He muttered, slowly walking off as his two kids followed after him, telling him about their day.
You watched as he left, letting out a happy, dreamy sigh. Looking back at your husband's co-worker, you felt your cheeks flush, "Here, come on in. Make yourself at home. Do you want anything to eat, or to drink?" You asked, walking further into your house, leading the woman to your kitchen where you gestured for her to sit at the kitchen island.
Sliding out a stool, Scully sat, clasping her hands together on the counter, "Oh, water would be great, thank you."
You nodded, grabbing a glass from the cupboard and filling it with tap water. Sliding the glass over to Scully, you grabbed yourself a water before sitting across from her.
"So, what is it like working with Fox? Do you believe in that extraterrestrial and supernatural stuff too?" You smirked, as Scully rolled her eyes and took a sip of her water.
"Well, I am definitely a skeptic. Though... My job is slowly changing my opinion." She then tilted her head, "What about you? Do you believe in the strange and unusual?" She asked and you shrugged.
"Sometimes. I used to be a skeptic, but after meeting Fox... He somehow convinced me." You sighed, glancing over at a family photo of you, Fox, and your children then hung on the wall. "He makes everything seem so much more possible."
Scully hummed quietly, taking another sip of her water. "Well, you have a wonderful family." She spoke, glancing over at you before smiling gently.
Smiling back at her, you nodded, "Thank you." You smiled down at the counter, "They are my life." You confessed, before resting your palm on your cheek, leaning your elbow on the counter. "Jodie and Charlie are twins, if you hadn't guessed, and they are a handful. Both of them are just like their father, believing in aliens and Bigfoot… Even Nessie..." You trailed off with a laugh, before continuing, "And Stevie, he's my youngest. Only a couple of months old. Fox is sure he's going to believe in aliens just like him and the twins. But, he’s got his own littler personality, but definitely a daddy’s boy." You chuckled, Scully nodding in response before she herself spoke.
"If I may ask, how did Mulder get a woman like you?" Scully began and you tilted your head slightly as she continued, “I mean, he’s a pretty… Odd guy…” She spoke slowly, uncertain.
You smirked, shrugging one shoulder, "Oh, you know, he just charmed his way into my life... Somehow."
"Hey!" Mulder entered the room, holding little Stevie in his arms as Jodie and Charlie clutched onto his jacket sleeves. "I heard that." He pointed at you.
"Hey, honey." You greeted Fox softly, learning a smile from the man. Your heart fluttering in your chest as you watched him.
Stepping over to you, he pecked your lips briefly before setting Stevie in his high chair. After settling the twins down, he leaned against the breakfast bar, crossing his arms. His brown hair was messy, and his shirt was a bit wrinkly, as he grinned lightly at the two women. "Been talking about me, huh?"
You rolled your eyes, standing as you picked up your empty glass. "All good things, my love, all good things." You then turned to Scully, "Would you like to stay for dinner?" You offered politely, and Scully's eyes widened.
"Oh, I don't want to impose." She stammered, but you waved a hand.
"Don't worry, I insist." You bumped your hip against Fox's, "Besides, Fox makes the best spaghetti." You winked, causing his cheeks to color a slight shade of pink as he glanced over at you. Smirking to yourself, you continued speaking to Scully, "Anyway, we usually have dinner around six thirty, why don't you join us? There will be plenty."
Scully glanced between you and Mulder, unsure of whether to accept or decline your invitation. Finally, she simply gave you a nod. "Alright. Thank you."

It was a bad idea. A terrible idea.
You sat between Steve’s parted legs, your back against his chest as your needy mewls bounced on the bathroom walls. The water sloshed in the bathtub as his hand played with your clit, the constant bucking of your hips making a mess on the floor every time water spilled from the tub. His other hand was groping your left breast, flicking your nipple every now and then.
‘’Mmh- Feels so good, Stevie.’’ Your back arched a little and you let out a moan.
His fingers felt heavenly on your clit, rubbing your bud with a perfect pressure. You must be dripping down there, and not just from the bath water.
‘’I bet it does. Look at you.’’ Steve let his other hand wander to your breast, toying with your nipple. ‘’You should see the mess you’re making on the floor, baby.’’
He had promised he would behave and not let his hand wander if he joined you in the bathtub. Well, he was full of shit!
You threw your head back against his shoulder, the sensations from his touches sending fuzzy tingles from your neck to your clenching pussy, feeling your core tighten as your arousal built. ‘’Please don’t stop. Please don't stop-’’ Your hips were restless as you were getting close, sending more water sloshing over the edge.
Small tears prickled at the corner of your eyes, overwhelmed from the clitoral stimulation. The corner of Steve's lips turned up; you've always been so sensitive there.
‘’Are you going to cum just from my finger? Are you going to be a good girl for me?’’ His words elicited a needy whine from you, causing Steve's smile to turn into a smirk, watching your body fall apart from his touch.
‘’I'm cum- I-‘’ You held your breath and gripped the side of the tub, arching up into Steve’s fingers, your breathing uneven and hasty. A cry of pleasure left your parted mouth as your orgasm hit.
Your body shuddered lightly as Steve worked you through it, only taking his finger off of you when your body went limp against his.
You could feel Steve's hard cock behind you, poking at your back, untouched – and probably aching. The good girlfriend in you wanted relieve him, but you were too worn out to do anything about it. That orgasm had worn you out. You were ready to pass out.
The only issue was: you were still in the bathtub.
The sloshing came to a stop and the – now lukewarm – bath water calmed.
‘’Steve?’’
He hummed, pressing a gentle kiss to your shoulder and caressed your thigh without any sexual intentions, simply being affectionate.
‘‘I think I get why you fall asleep after sex. This is exhausting.’’
A laugh bubbled out of him. He’ll never live this down.

His whine was almost pathetic, a small, desperate thing as his thick fingers dug painfully into Charlie’s hips, begging her to keep moving. She chuckled then, deep and throaty, as she lifted off of him, hovering just out of reach of his thrusting hips. She hadn’t let him remove his boxers yet, insisting on working him up slowly until he lost all sense of self-control.
“Please.” His voice was raspy, a tinge of anguish wavering at the edge. Strands of her long, chestnut hair tickled his hands as they hovered by the small of her back.
“I didn’t tell you that you could touch me yet, Steve.”
She moved to get off of his lap, a smirk playing at her lips as she shifted to his side.
“I’m sorry, baby. Please, I promise I’ll be good.” His eyes, nearly black with need, stared up at her, wet and pleading.
With a laugh, she shuffled down the bed, bracing her hands on his freckled thighs, and peering up at him from under her long lashes.
“I’ll take it easy on you,” she said, breath fanning over the length of his bulge, “if you promise to keep your hands to yourself.”
He swallowed thickly, his eyes locked on the distance between her lips and the straining fabric, and nodded. Charlie hummed her approval and his hips bucked toward her mouth of their own accord. Not wanting to keep him waiting for too long, she began to gently walk her fingers along the length of him, stopping before she reached the tip, and walking them back down, excruciatingly slow. Gripping his hips, she followed the path her fingers had taken, tracing her nose over the underside of his cock.
When she noticed the dark blue spot staining the fabric, she placed a delicate, lingering kiss there. Sparing a look up for his reaction, she saw Steve’s gaze glued to the ceiling, his bottom lip clenched tightly between his teeth.
“Oh, Stevie,” she tutted. “What do you want me to do for you, baby?”
“Touch me” His voice was shaky, barely more than a whisper. "Please.”
Her fingers worked deftly, undoing the buttons on the fly of his boxers, taking him in hand and gently pulling him through the opening. The whispered curses tumbling from his lips spurred her on as she slowly stroked him, rolling her palm over his leaking tip with each pass. His breathing became more erratic, his fingers flexing as he fought the urge to touch her. His head pressed deeper into the pillow, the tendons of his neck straining as she added another hand, moving them in opposite directions, pumping him faster.
“Fuck, baby… I need more.”
She let go, ignoring his petulant whine as she crawled up the length of his body, placing a finger to his lips. She kissed him once, twice, three times, her lips lingering against his just long enough to leave him chasing her for more. She pulled his plump lower lip between her teeth, tugging gently, and lowered herself onto his lap once more.
She slowly slid her slick folds along the now bare skin of his throbbing length. The growl that ripped through his chest let her know that his control was slipping. Charlie sped up the movement of her hips, getting lost in the sensation of the head of his cock brushing against her clit at just the right angle.
Deciding she’d teased him long enough, she leaned forward, capturing his lips in a bruising kiss, grinding on him at a desperate pace and whimpering against his mouth.
“Steve… oh God, Steve. Touch me. Please.”
Before she knew what was happening, Charlie had been flipped onto her back, Steve hovering over her, the blunt tip of him notched at her entrance. He pushed in slightly, pulling back to run himself through her folds, slapping himself against her clit before pushing further inside. She kicked at the sheets that tangled at her ankles, allowing herself to fully open up for him, and situating her head against the plush pillows.
Shudders racked through both of them at the feeling of him fully seating himself inside of her. His forehead dropped to hers, sweaty strands of his messy hair falling into her eyes, as his hand gently cupped her cheek. They lay there like that for a moment, completely still, reveling in the feeling of their connected bodies, their breath mingling through a half dozen almost-kisses.
When he began to move inside her, she hooked her ankles behind his thighs, angling her hips to take him deeper and deeper still, nails raking over the plump flesh of his backside as she moved against him. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, biting and sucking tiny purple bruises into her skin, savoring the salty taste of her on his tongue.
They began to move in tandem, their bodies seeming to be so in tune with each other that it was hard to decipher where one began and the other ended.
Steve canted his hips slightly, bringing one hand up to cup her breast, twisting and pinching her pebbled nipple between his thick fingertips. The other firmly gripped the back of her thigh, shifting it higher on his hip, sure to leave bruises for her to find in the morning. From this new angle he brushed against that spongy spot inside of her, far beyond her own reach, making her feel like she had been struck by lightning.
Her toes curled, legs tightening their grip on his thighs, and she buried a hand in his hair, keeping his face pressed into her neck. She felt him smile against her, wicked and mischievous, before he raked his teeth over her sensitive skin, nibbling softly at her collarbone. She arched her back, pushing him impossibly deeper inside of her, a choked sob escaping her as she dug her nails painfully into the meat of his ass, using the grip to guide him back and forth, over and over the spot that made her see stars until she was sure she would crumble to dust beneath him.
Charlie felt her release building low in her gut, threatening to overwhelm her at any moment. Mouthing over her jaw, he placed a sloppy kiss to her mouth, whining against her lips when he felt her tighten around him. His hips snapped against hers, setting an erratic pace that let her know he was just as close to coming undone as she was.
“I’m not going to last much longer,” he breathed, his voice barely above a whisper. He tugged her bottom lip between his teeth, sucking lightly, kissing her again. “Let go for me.”
Every muscle in her body felt like it was wound tight enough to snap. Unable to form words, her moans crescendoed into a high pitched whine as she shattered around him. Wave after wave of pleasure flooded her body and she felt the tension in her limbs begin to melt away into something warm and utterly divine. She kissed him again, slow and lazy, relinquishing her grip on his ass to tangle both hands in the damp hair at the nape of his neck. His hips stilled, pressing deeper, his own broken moans filling the room as he spilled inside her.
Reluctantly, Charlie extracted herself from Steve, tiptoeing to the bathroom to get cleaned up. When she returned, she found him sprawled on his stomach, face smushed into the pillow, an arm stretched over the empty space of the bed, waiting on her to fill it.
She had to stifle a giggle at the sight of Steve’s bare ass on display, his boxers having been shed sometime in the midst of their fun. She gave his cheek a little slap and he jumped, sitting up to wrap his arms around her waist and pull her down onto the bed in a fit of giggles. He threw a muscular leg over her thigh, using the arm wrapped around her waist to pull her against him, and buried his face in her neck.
They stayed like that for a while, too content to bask in the feeling of being in each others’ arms to shift into a more comfortable position. Charlie petted the silky strands of Steve’s hair from his forehead, listening contentedly to his breathing as it slowed, syncing with hers, until they both fell into a peaceful sleep.

starlie headcanons??? 😳😳😳
jareth, you don't even KNOW–
i think it should be established that charlie fell first, and meeks fell so so much harder.
steven is slowly losing brain functions like two months after realizing he has a crush, while charlie is chilling (he's been in love for 3 years but he's not gonna do anything about it bc he's convinced steven is out of his league) and ambiguously flirting him (oh, the simple joys of life, confusing your crush about your feelings <3)
not to say that charlie isn't down bad btw, he's just better at coping most of the time
charlie unashamedly favours meeks in everything and he's SO ANNOYING about it
like (i already said this somewhere btw) whenever charlie drives he makes an argument that the driver has the complete authority over the radio, UNLESS it's meeks sitting in the passengers seat, then he lets him pick the music every single time.
charlie is a very hands-on person, and he WILL manhandle the shit out of steven whenever it's convenient to him like the bastard he is
meeks is fine with that btw, he'll just be chatting with sb and charlie comes up behind him, wordlessly grab his arm and move him like a foot to the left and bc he was blocking him, and meeks will barely blink, like "yeah ig that just happened.. anyways!"
also charlie is just about strong enough to lift up steven, and he abuses this ability whenever he can
ADHD!Charlie Dalton x Autism+ADD!Steven Meeks are basically canon to me
meeks absolutely forgets to eat some days, especially during finals and such. charlie can tell whenever that happens, so he'll sneak him food from the kitchen/make him something light just so he doesn't pass out
in a similar sense charlie does not remember he's supposed to drink water, like ever, so meeks has a habit of always having an extra water bottle for him.
their petnames for each other are kinda all over the place
meeks gets easily embarrassed by petnames so he doesn't really use them, while Charlie Extra Dramatic Dalton–
charlie: love, baby, my heart, Stevie (condescending like 50% of the time, the other 50% he's fully genuine) steven: bastard (affectionate) & Charles (derogatory) meeks mostly just calls charlie 'my boyfriend <3'
they almost never flirt in english, at least in public, charlie uses spanish, and meeks mostly hebrew or chinese
also meeks likes to make comments about charlie in latin (bc charlie doesn't really know it besides basics they learned at welton), even in public and cameron has tried to kill him so many times bc 'i don't need to know that, you pervert!'
steven is a chronic people pleaser, charlie is a chronic people annoyer.
charlie proposed on their first real date for the free cake. he did not tell meeks he was going to do that beforehand.
… meeks said yes anyways.
but i don't actually see them getting married, except maybe for tax benefits after 7 years of dating. and they would frequently forget that they're married
there is absolutely no way they get together normally, first they're in a on-again-off-again situationship for like a year bc they both refuse to admit their feelings
also it's meeks that finally confesses (after ignoring three full confessions from charlie, bc they were either so dramatic he thought charlie was joking, or so casual that he didn't even realize what happened)
