if you had authorial power and you could drop one "fuck" into the canon of the twilight verse, where would you put it/who would say it, and why?
I mean, I'm not sure I felt strongly that we were missing it, no moment stands particularly out to me in retrospect of "that could have been a naughtier word"
The place I would put it...
Jacob at the wedding, asks if Bella intends to get "fucked" to death by her vampire boyfriend. Bella is aghast and appalled by Jacob's crude imagery and choice of language.

god that's such a good parallel too, i fully agree

chapter 8: trigger
read on ao3 | read on ff.net | spotify playlist | fan cast
summary: think of the biggest hater you know. it's a man, right? prom '05 has finally arrived, and it's about to get uglier than edward cullen up in here...
word count: ~7.7k
warnings: more of the same in previous chapters + blatant sexual tension and flirtatiousness + extra profanity (first "fuck" incoming) + physical violence
thank you so much to everyone who's been following along and being patient with me. I told you it wouldn't take me this long to give y'all another chapter! I just wanna add that I know we all know how the original story that smeyer gave us ends for our princess diana of the twilight saga, but let this be a reminder to have fun and like… live in the moment of the story lol. while we all know how shit goes for lee-lee in canon, this story is still a fanfic. just trust me.
this chapter was masterfully beta-read by @bellasdumptruckass. tytyty so much for taking this chapter from a good 8.5 to an 11. I'm SO proud of how it turned out.
I hope you enjoy the update! show me some love in the comments if you're real <3

THROBB FORTNIGHT Fic Recs: Days 6-10
Day 6: Role/Fortune reversal
A Different Tide by VagrantWriter (M, 54k)
This one is a true classic! A fortune reversal romance/coming of age novel where Robert's Rebellion fails and after Ned is killed in the fighting, Robb is sent to live as an exiled bastard on Pyke, under the guardianship of Quellon Greyjoy. Meanwhile, the Greyjoys never fought in the Rebellion and just generally the things go a little differently for them because of that. Theon grows up at home, but as a third son, not the heir, and with the menacing presence of his brothers still very much around. This story tracks Robb's and Theon's friendship as it grows and flourishes into romance, and as they are forced to navigate the drama and intrigues of the Greyjoy family and Euron's deadly power games. The ending is a bit bittersweet but ties up all the loose ends nicely and with hope, and takes exciting turns getting there!
Day 7: Pining
Artificial Respiration by cheerynoir (T, 3.7k)
This fic is actually part of a series but honestly can be read on its own (though the series overall is great too)! A modern AU with a seemingly very simple, cliche premise: Robb gets dumped and turns to Theon for comfort and snuggles. Now, the hurt/comfort is cute and sweet but the pining is what gets me every time. Theon is so far gone, but also so convinced that Robb will never reciprocate - it's exactly the right type of painful. The POV is heartbreaking and masterfully done, exactly Theon's combination of internal chaos and external projection of confidence/nonchalance. But what makes it even better is that Theon is definitely an unreliable narrator and it becomes obvious at one point or another that perhaps his pining is not oh so unrequited after all. But of course, in true throbb fashion, they are incapable of actually communicating with one another, so they pine and suffer and cuddle. And it's honestly a joy to read.
Day 8: Execution/“Robb’s Choice”
Tears in Waves by Rovardotter (T, 1.3k)
An excellent, tragic rendition of this genre! More gen than ship, but Robb's pain at having to Do The Deed is heartfelt and genuine. I appreciated how this fic did the characterization, how there was no pretending that Robb would ever consider endangering his family or honor for Theon, but that doesn't mean the situation is easy for him and he suffers from the resulting guilt. This is just a beautifully executed (…no pun intended) bit of angst with a gut-punch of an ending.
Day 9: War (Romance)
Babel by mautadite (E, 6k)
Perhaps a loose interpretation of this prompt but I'm glad I have a chance to rec this fic, because it's one of my favorite No Defection AUs. In this one, Theon never goes to Pyke and ends up taking the arrow meant for Robb at the Crag. As he recovers, the boys have to deal with the wartime politics of Balon's rebellion that they suddenly hear about as well as their own relationship. The tension and characterizations are really well done in this one! And! Smut I actually enjoyed (lol)! If you know me, you know that's kind of rare for me. But it really does fit in so nicely here, and really plays up Robb being eager but a bit inexperienced.
Day 10: Reincarnation
Phantom Life by VagrantWriter (M, 15k)
A really cleverly done reincarnation fic where Theon lives a life in the "real" modern world and has a lot of the things he didn't get in canon - a happy love and marriage with Robb, children, a close relationship with his sister, even a reasonably supportive father. But then one day he begins to remember his past Westerosi life (while no one else does) and it drives him a little mad. This fic is engaging and enthralling and keeps up the suspense where you keep wondering how this will all resolve. It's got both that fluffy modern AU feel in part but also deals with Theon's (and Theon and Robb's) canon issues. A bit of both worlds! And of course, a satisfying resolution and happy ending ❤

i am in the process of rebuilding my music library tho but this does involve going through it alphabetically by artist so here are five songs from artists starting with the letter A instead:

Hi there! I just saw your ask about the doomed happy endings of...everyone, basically, and something stuck out to me: the concept of Carlisle and Jasper forming a two man vegetarian coven. Could you elaborate on that? Any headcanons?
Sure!
So, this one is possible, but first I must make the note that Carlisle only turned Edward because after centuries of solitude and failing to either find likeminded or convert others to his way of life, he decided to create his own vampire and train this one to live as did.
To us this is the beginning of the story, a par de course in the life of Carlisle - of course he bites Edward, Esme, Rose, and Emmett, that’s how the story went!
For Carlisle, however, this was the last way out, something he dreaded resorting to and likely never would have if Elizabeth Masen hadn’t been who she was.
What this means is that if Carlisle and Jasper team up to form their two man vegetarian coven, then the rest of the Cullens don’t happen. It’ll just be those two.
With that in mind, how would this even happen?
Carlisle needs to meet Jasper before Edward. This means at any point between 1863 and 1919 (Edward died in the autumn). This could happen, because Carlisle travelled all the world, he could have passed through Middle America at some point.
A problem immediately presents itself: Jasper was with Maria at the time, and while he was miserable, he loved her and couldn’t imagine a different life. He hadn’t pieced together what his gift did to him when he killed humans, because he was constantly killing people anyway. He was Darth Vader before finding out Luke Skywalker is alive, and his world was endless war, death, and bloodshed.
Not only would it take a lot for Carlisle to persuade him, but I doubt it would occur to Carlisle to try and persuade this scarred over killing machine into a god-fearing vegan lifestyle in the first place. He didn’t get through to Aro, nor Siobhan, nor any of the wonderful people he’s met over the years. Jasper is one terrifying motherfucker, if Carlisle ran into him in the wild he’d likely pretend to be on the phone with Aro, “Oh you’re expecting me in Volterra next week and would come searching if I didn’t show, good to know. What’s that, you’d definitely avenge my death? Cool. Say hi to my best friend Jane.” even though phones hadn’t been invented yet, and then run in the opposite direction.
But there’s also the Luke Skywalker path.
Jasper had, in his own words, nearly no humanity left. There was only killing and blood. He was desperately unhappy, the problem was he didn’t know it.
If Carlisle looked at him the right way and saw that, saw that pain...
If Carlisle told Jasper about his life, about his ideals and altruistic existence, it would be for Jasper a completely absurd experience, this yellow-eyed pacifist living a life he couldn’t even imagine. He’d be fascinated.
Remember, in 1938 it would only take Peter one conversation to persuade Jasper to leave Maria.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Jasper wouldn’t drop everything, “I’m a hippie now! Make love, not war, Maria, bye.” within five minutes (Well, I say that, but if Carlisle caught him in the right moment I can also see Jasper having such a bizarre time meeting this alien that he just follows Carlisle like the pied piper) but this vampire living such an impossible, different, life would intrigue him. Carlisle would be like a man who lives free from capitalism to us, impossible but oh so alluring. You can’t put someone like that out of your mind after that.
And Carlisle, in turn, seeing Jasper’s interest would return to see him again, not expecting him to follow the diet but hoping to at the very least get this rough diamond away from his current life. He wouldn’t be able to leave him, his faith and morals would make that unthinkable for him.
Carlisle is gifted extremely charismatic, and sooner rather than later he would have Jasper convinced he doesn’t have to continue killing for the sake of killing in an endless cycle of violence (knowing how miserable Jasper only had to realize he was, I think Carlisle would seal the deal on their second meeting).
From there, there are two paths.
A, they part ways, and Jasper’s depression doesn’t cease because he’s still killing humans. Carlisle’s words returns to him, and he tries animal blood. Realizing that this is the right path to him, he embarks upon a road trip to track down the pacifist blond, wherever he is in the world now, and it ends with a scene likes the airport scenes in romantic movies, where Carlisle sees his yellow eyes and they run towards each other in slow motion.
B, Carlisle gets Jasper to try it, “What’s this, I’m not miserable anymore!” and now Carlisle has a BFF/life partner.
Either way, they’d be a delightful, unlikely duo and I’m here for the buddy comedy.

ALEC FUCKING LIGHTWOOD [show or book, dealer's choice]
i feel like in the show alec was only alec fucking lightwood for the first season and then he suddenly was replaced by a big boss in his dad's jacket trying to deal with his job while being brainfucked by a petty always unhappy wife husband, so i'm gonna be talking about book alec and maybe sh season 1 as a treat
how I feel about this character:
he was one of my first absolute faves, so of course he's my son, i love him dearly, and let me tell you i loved him even when he was a cold asshole character threatening to kill clary, ok? always hated clary so that was one of the reasons i originally liked him lol
all the people I ship romantically with this character:
magnus, but only in the books and the movie, show ship is not my thing, book malec as pRoBlEmAtIc as it might be lives in my heart rent free
jace, when he's on his good behaviour and not on his clary bullshit, when jace is on his sebastian bullshit he's not the best choice for alec either, but, you know, i approve of sebastian bullshit, so there's that
and i think i kinda shipped him with simon a little bit? that moment when alec had to feed him in the sixth book? wholesome
my non-romantic OTP for this character:
alec x jace, because parabatai and oh the sweet pain, alec x jace x isabelle (x max), lightwoods all together, you know, and also alec x simon which is mostly just headcanon but i always thought they actually had a lot in common, especially considering how the two if them parallel each other (both in love and friendzoned by main characters who don't even deserve them, both archer boys, etc), cassie just let them fucking hang together
my unpopular opinion about this character:
don't know if that's unpopular, but he's not a sunshine baby who did nothing wrong, he can be fucking annoying, cold-hearted, etc at times but that's honestly why i love him, he feels human to me, book alec that is, show alec is too... cardboard, the nuances if the character are basically removed all together
one thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
more focus on him? in general just more of him in the tmi books, but also like him hanging out with simon? would have been cool

Meet Death Sitting
Ha, thanks to everyone who’s expressed interest in this story.
I always do this to myself, I’ve got to drive 300 miles before lunch today and I don’t have time to proofread, and really it’s only half of the fic, there’s got to be a back half to it.
(I’m still deciding whose POV to write it from. The first half is all Jaskier, should I continue that way or do it from Geralt’s? Maximum narrator unreliability, is what I want.)
But I figured out a title, such as it is, and a summary, so I guess I’ll post the first little chunk before I disappear. There’s no juicy part yet, that’s chapter 2, but we’ll get an establishing premise and we can see if anyone really wants to read this after all. I’ll have chapter 2 up once I get online again, which will probably be tonight but no guarantees.
Currently, gen, and currently, rated T for canon-typical violence and body horror (mild, compared to the show!), but ratings are subject to change in subsequent updates and actually the violence isn’t until chapter 2. Ah, the pullquote I used for a summary isn’t until chapter 2 either. Dang it, I should just post the first two chapters. Well, I don’t have time, so consider this a teaser and I’ll make a new post when I can update.
Meet Death Sitting: Chapter 1, Surviving

Hi again! Honestly, I kind of love your meta about the Cullens with and without Edward as a framing device. They're so delightfully fucked up. What do you think the Cullens like about each other? Like, do Jasper and Rosalie ever just share a commiserating glance when Edward is getting particularly judge-y? Does Carlisle ever tell Rose how proud he is that her self-control is That Good? Do Emmett and Esme hang out, does she appreciate how light-hearted he is? Like - other than their "mates" do you think the Cullens are super close? What do you think it would take to get them there/what's the ideal "family" dynamic?
Thank you, and for reference, Edward's thoughts on the family.
All the Cullens about all the other Cullens? Well, this will certainly be a large post. I guess we'll tackle this one at a time and then get into what an ideal "family" dynamic even is (especially for vampires).
Let's buckle in friends.
Alice
By far, Alice is closest to Edward.
When she first sees him, she runs to him and embraces him as a brother. Throughout the series, Alice and Edward are the ones that share a close bond with each other, rely upon one another, and hold each other in the highest esteem.
Much of this comes from their respective gifts.
Per their gifts, they unwillingly invade the privacy of everyone close in their lives. More, it's something that forces them to see the world differently beyond even Jasper (who is also gifted). They have a strong sense of kinship with one another.
Bella is important to Alice not only because Alice sees her as a friend but because she is the one who will make Edward happiest. And that means quite a bit to Alice.
Otherwise, Alice isn't that close to any of the others.
Bella comes in slot number two in Alice's esteem and that's very telling, because Alice treats Bella like her life-sized Barbie doll and makes it clear on a number of occasions that she's more than willing to risk Bella's life for the sake of Edward's happiness without a hint of remorse.
Then there's the rest of them.
People, to Alice, are a bit like pawns in a chess game. Part of this is because of her gift, she sees so many futures that it's very easy for her to dehumanize those around her. The people she's closest to aren't people, but a collection of possible choices, and Alice helps guide those choices to the ones she finds preferable.
And preferable, here, is preferable to Alice. Oh, it might work out for everyone else, and Alice will tell you she looks out for the future of everyone over all, but ultimately because everyone else is just a collection of choices it's what happens to Alice that matters.
Alice is with Jasper because a vision told her to be, nothing more, nothing less. Every interaction they have just emphasizes that they are nothing together, not even a real emotional bond.
The others don't even seem to share a connection with Alice at all. She's in their lives, is this perky kind of fun girl, but that's it. They barely know her as she seems to barely know them.
Alice is with the Cullens not for the Cullens themselves but because visions have guided her to be there as the best future for her. Oh, she treats them like family, but I imagine she'd be the same with anyone else had visions dictated a different path.
As for why the Cullens, they're large and very talented, and Carlisle is one of the few vampires in such a large coven who would not use Alice's gift as a means of war or expansion. It's really the safest place for Alice to be, and why she'll likely do everything in her power to keep the coven together.
Carlisle
Despite Edward's, Edwardness, Carlisle is incredibly fond of Edward and does see him as something of a son. He's also very devoted to his marriage to Esme, despite its unseen flaws. And he seems to be very close with Rosalie, easily seeing her as a daughter and acting much like a paternal figure to her throughout the series.
He doesn't seem as close with Emmett, Jasper, and Alice. This is in part because Emmett doesn't really reach out to him the way the others do, Jasper keeps very much to himself, and Alice is Alice.
However, he's very fond of the Cullens as a whole and looks on each of them highly, even if they don't really deserve it all the time. He would be devestated were the coven to fall apart.
Emmett
Emmett's closest is with Rosalie, for obvious reasons, but even they have a pretty dysfunctional relationship. What Emmett appreciates most about Rosalie is her beauty, when it comes to her personality, he openly admits he's not the largest fan (but what are you going to do, it's the wife, amirite?)
Otherwise, he's a very amiable guy and gets along well enough with everyone, but doesn't seem particularly close to any of them. He wrestles with Jasper and seems to engage in the most 'fun' activities with him, but Jasper is a very haunted soul with a difficult past that Emmett doesn't touch with a ten foot pole.
Emmett tries to bond with Edward, but they just don't understand one another. Especially as Edward seems to go increasingly mad when he decides he's in love with Bella Swan, Emmett doesn't know what to do with that one at all.
Emmett never embraces the whole Esme and Carlisle as his parents thing, and to him it's likely a hilarious joke, but otherwise he doesn't bond with either of them too much.
So, when you get down to it, it's pretty much just Rose.
Esme
Esme adores the family, and by the family I mean Edward. Edward is far and away Esme's favorite child, really the only Cullen I'd say Esme considers her child, and she makes no pretense otherwise and openly says as much.
That said, if you asked her, it would be about the family unit as a whole. And she would be devastated if the Cullens fell apart on her, though not as much if one of the fringe members left vs. Edward leaving.
Otherwise, there's Carlisle, who she adores as her husband. Though they, too, have significant issues. Specifically, neither of them truly knows who it is they married and one day they will find that out. Personally, I think Carlisle ranks far less in Esme's priorities than Edward, in part because he doesn't need her quite so badly, and also because in a way he just is Husband to her and little else.
I think she has very little connection with Jasper and Alice specifically, as they came in so late and in a way are so self contained. Emmett I think amuses her, but he's not really a "child" per se. Rosalie's closest, but as Rosalie doesn't need her as a mother I think that puts a wedge between them.
I also think that Rosalie and Esme wouldn't really understand each other. Despite having lived through similar experiences as humans, they are very different women from one another. I just don't see the bond there.
Jasper
Jasper seems to be the eternal outsider in the family. Edward despises him, but more, I think he doesn't quite know where to fit in with these people. He came from such a different from world than each of them and lived a very different life.
We see him wrestling with Emmett, so there's a bond of friendship there, but I never saw it as a particularly deep one. They'll wrestle, play games, but they never have the hard and difficult conversations in life.
He and Alice have their relationship, but there doesn't seem to be anything really holding them together. The conversations they need to have don't happen, and Alice manipulates his life like a piece on a chessboard, and he consents because he has no trust left in himself at all.
We see Jasper despair to Carlisle in Breaking Dawn that Bella, a newborn, has better control than him but this seems to be an extreme moment for him. It doesn't seem like he and Carlisle are talking often even if, perhaps, they should if only to gain more perspective from one another.
Jasper didn't come to the coven for Alice, nor is that solely the reason he stays, but he very much is an outsider and the one who doesn't quite fit in with the rest of them.
Rosalie
Rosalie is very invested in the family itself. She loves these people, even the ones that aren't so hot on her.
Yes, she wishes she and Alice had an actual relationship, and is pissed off when Alice blows her off for Edward's human girlfriend of all things. Yes, she wishes that she and Edward could get along, but she sees him as the brother you sometimes have a rocky relationship with.
Point being, to her, they are very much a family and she strives to keep them together.
As for who she's actually close to, I'd say it's Emmett and Carlisle. Her relationship with Edward is tense at best and antagonistic at worst. She and Alice have virtually know relationship at all, Jasper keeps to himself, and we don't see her really connecting with Esme.
On the other hand, in terms of her education (pursuing all she can and especially getting her medical degree), her strict adherence to the diet, she seems to emulate Carlisle in all that she does. He's very much a father figure to her and someone she wishes to be like.
So, I do think Carlisle tells Rosalie he's proud of her and she beams up at him. That one I do very much see happening.
Emmett is her rock, the man who keeps her steady and pulled her out of misery, who loves her near unconditionally. For the wrong reasons, perhaps, but time will tell if that relationship works out for them.
Summing it Up
The Cullens are actually fairly disjointed. They may look like a single cohesive unit, and they are in a sense, but if you look closer they divide down into cliques and subgroups quite easily. Not one of them is equally close to all other Cullens, and most of them are strangers to at least one of them.
This perhaps isn't surprising, given I think the coven is ultimately doomed, but it lays the foundations as for why it's doomed. Edward tells us this himself, what holds them together (vs. other smaller covens) is the diet. Edward, of course, didn't mean it like this, but to me that spells a very tenuous bond. One that, with not much of a catalyst, will break.
And I don't think they're going to get to the point where they reach that family ideal.
First, they'd have to truly understand each other, and understanding Edward would break the coven. So that's not going good places.
More though, they're such different people who ultimately do not share common ideals. They don't want the same things in life and certainly not for the same reasons, and because of that they're not going to be incredibly close to every other person in the coven. And that's fine, they don't have to be.
To be honest, I'm not sure the family dynamic is something they should strive for. They already, mostly, care about one another deeply and do live together. Why should they emulate human families?
The place where it falls apart on them is that half of them don't know who the other is, they all think they have different values than they actually do, and Edward is Edward.
And there's no getting around Edward being Edward.

i've been scrolling for your blog for hours now and i gotta say i'm hooked on the idea of your dark parabatai meta. it just makes so much sense! any chance of getting a fic devoted to exploring some of the twisted codependency?
Hi! Thank you so much! This is highkey my favourite kind of meta about the show, so there’s quite a lot of me rambling about it, haha.
As for fics - yes, that’s definitely a thing that’s happening in the near future. I actually have a couple that kind of deal with the bond getting out of hand in case of separation or death (one, two, three, four examples, with the last one being the only one that doesn’t explicitly end in tragedy), but nothing that explores it in full and that’s pretty much the central topic of a fic I’m writing just now. It just feels like there’s so much to say about it - both from their relationship in canon and the lore surrounding the bond in general - that I can’t help myself. ;3
