“Foggy Memories”
Summary: Days blurred together, one after the other. It was getting hard to remember what was real and what was just a figment of Crosshair’s imagination
Pairing: Crosshair x platonic padawan reader (ITS ALL PLATONIC)
Warning: nothing really Just some angst!
Word Count: 1061
Notes: I feel like that audio that goes “I’m me again, it feels like it’s been years.” Writing this brought a smile to my face as I realized how much I enjoyed doing these before! His eyelids were becoming harder and harder to keep open. Crosshairs mind trying to block out what happened before... what did happen?
Cross' furrowed his brows trying to remember as his knees were tucked closely to his chest.
More water from the stormy planet of Kamino woke him up from his daze.
"Cross?" It took the clone a moment to recognize Omegas voice. Moving his head slowly to look over his shoulder, he watched as his brothers and commander playing in the puddles on the landing pad.
That can't be right
Omegas smile didn't leave her face as she continued to stare at Crosshair. It never seemed too.
"Are you going to join us?" Her voice was light. Crosshair could have sworn it was different. Something changed. It wasn't this happy.
Something tugged at his insides as Crosshair shook his head no. "I'm not feeling to good right now." His voice was gravely and strained, how long had he been there?
Omega gave a small shrug and returned to the fun that seemed to be behind Cross.
The sun started to set, once again, over the endless ocean that could have gone to the ends of the galaxy. He wanted to close his eyes, to bask in the dying sun since something inside him said this was the last chance.
A figure sat down next to him. The slight bump of their shoulder felt like a soft trace of the wind. "It's ok Cross." He could recognize his old commanding padawan better, their voice was as familiar as his own reflection.
He slightly looked over, they sat the same was as Cross trying to get some cover from the wind.
Crosshair could only look for a moment, that's what he was good at doing anyways, this time the memory feeling familiar.
"We're alright." You continued, a small smiled pulled at the edges of your lips. The clone only nodded his head, but something in his eyes told you he was comforted by your words.
Your own gaze now fell to the warm hues of the sun. Taking a breath in of the salty air you spoke once again. "Can't you believe it Cross? That the wars over?"
Despite his sluggish mind Crosshair snapped his head towards your direction.
No. He was there when the war was announced over. When the Jedi were announced...
But there you were, sitting next to him on the cool landing pad.
"I've dreamed of this," You continued as if you didn't pick up on the confusion radiating off Crosshair. "What are we going to do?"
Your old smiled calmed Cross' nerves, some things don't change.
"We can go anywhere we want." Youre tone was in a dreamy whispers as you thought of the possibilities.
"We can't." Crosshairs' own voice grated against his ears. His mind was foggy but the memories that stained his past seemed to play over and over again.
"The empire-" His words were cut off as you stared at him with a quizzical look. When someone was teaching you something new, or plans were being explained again, you had the same expression now.
Laughter erupted from the others as Wrecker laid flat of his back slipping from the slick surface bellow.
The urge to join his brothers ate up Crosshair, but his tired body refused to move him. Thats when he knew something was off. The energy and excitement his brothers, his family all seemed to have were odd. Crosshair caught himself thinking over the days before but came up empty handed.
You laughed along with them, turning towards Cross. The word Crosshair spoke seemed to unbothered you as you returned your gaze to him.
In the absence of his clear mind Crosshair found himself asking the question. "Why are we still here?"
His commanders soft eyes scanned his face. For a moment Cross thought as if they would reach out with a comforting hand, but it never touched him.
"You can come with us Cross." The unmistakable voice of Hunter rang from behind the pair.
Omega was glued to Hunters side with the rest of his squad lined up next to the sergeant.
He looked to Tech, the brother that he acted like annoyed him, but who Cross would do anything in the entire galaxy to hear explain something new he researched again.
His eyes shifted to Wrecker. The one who made the war seem lighter and everything less scary. His deep laugh seemed lifetimes away now, but the soft smile he was giving Crosshair now could lighten his spirits in an instant.
Hunter and Omega, the brother he can't help but admit that he looked up too, one he could never fathom living without. It was true when Crosshair said he would follow his commands to the ends of the galaxy.
Omega with a pure smile and heart, one that hasn't yet seemed to give up on Crosshair.
A faint smile ghosted his lips, the thought of them staying with him warmed him against the salty winds.
To you, now he looked. The commander that got under his skin in the best way, the one he caught himself looking out for in different missions and the only nat born he could say he was fond of.
"Please come with us Cross." Your voice was darker, graver now. The sound of rain now pounded the landing pad as your pleas were lost to the wind. "I don't want to loose you to."
This was too close. A memory his foggy brain was trying to forget. This was too close to what really happened.
Crosshair's legs unfolded from his body as in a stumbled he pushed himself up and looked over his shoulder.
His feet caught him in a moment, looking up to where his brothers stood before. Now it was completely void of anything.
The sun seemed to disappear as the reality of the stormy night crashed into Crosshair . Alone.
In a frenzy Crosshair snapped his head to find his padawan gone as well. Everything was gone. What was new?
His legs shook under the cold wind, his knees giving out and dropping him the landing pad bellow.
"I'm sorry Cross" the words either said by something for carried by the wind itself whispered into his ear.
Oh yeah... he could remember now. But how many days has he really been alone?

Impeccable Timing
Read here on Ao3!
Febuwhump 2024 | Day 22 | Prompt 22: “You weren’t meant to be there.”
Rated: T | Words: 560 | Summary: Crosshair deals with the guilt of friendly fire. [Character Focus: Crosshair, Tech]
The target in his sights moved the moment he pulled the trigger. Gone was the neck shot that would decapitate the battle droid and in its place was the familiar pale gray armor of his brother. There was nothing he could do but watch in horror as the bolt made contact.
His in-helmet comm exploded with entangled voices of panic, but two word’s stood out like a flash-bang. Blinding. Deafening. Lethal. “Tech’s down!”
“Crosshair, will you please look at me?” Tech asked, voice firm but patient.
Crosshair dragged his gaze from his boots and looked at Tech’s face. His younger brother’s expression made him want to cry. But he wouldn’t cry. Not here. Instead, he snarled, “What do you want?”
“It wasn’t your fault,” Tech said. He indicated the bandage covering half his chest and shoulder. “I want you to stop blaming yourself for this.”
“I don’t,” Crosshair lied.
There was confusion at first, Hunter and Wrecker speculated wildly as they dragged Tech off the field, getting him to cover. They kept asking if Crosshair had seen anything, could see anything. A threat they hadn’t accounted for. How could he tell them that it was friendly fire, a blaster bolt meant for a vanishing enemy. The awful truth.
“Crosshair, do you see anything?” Hunter asked, command voice razor-edged.
The sniper realized that he had not responded to any of the questions. Static in his head blocked out the noise, opting for the sickened mantra: I shot him. I shot him. I shot him.
“I shot him.” The words crowded from his mind to his lips, unbidden.
“What?”
“I shot him,” Crosshair repeated, not to answer Hunter’s shocked question, but because it was the only words he could say. “I shot him.”
“You do,” Tech said, “And if there is anyone who deserves blame, it is myself. I miscalculated my position. I knew better.”
“It’s my job to know where you are. Where all of you are,” Crosshair argued.
Tech considered the counterpoint. “We may be enhanced, Crosshair, but we are still human. Occasional errors are a given. You could not have known that I would block your shot of the battle droid. Had I taken that position only a moment later, I would not have been shot. Had I taken that position a moment earlier, you would have seen that I blocked your shot and not pulled the trigger. It was impeccable timing, really.” He sounded morbidly impressed.
“Impeccable timing? I almost killed you!”
“But I am not dead.”
“No karking thanks to me,” Crosshair spat.
Tech frowned. “I cannot reason with you when you are being overly emotional.”
“I am not–”
Tech put up a hand. “I do not feel this necessary nor warranted, but I forgive you, Crosshair, for any wrongdoing you feel you have done against me.”
The enhanced marksman deflated.
“I shot you,” Crosshair whispered.
“I know,” Tech said, “but I trust you, Cross. This event does not negate that. We live dangerous lives by literal design. It is the nature of war, and it is our nature as soldiers.”
Crosshair nodded, his throat constricted. “I’d better never see any of you at the other end of my scope again,” he growled. He pretended his voice didn’t crack.
Tech played along. “We shall do our best to keep out of the way,” he said with a smile.

Merry Whumpmas Day 4: Chills
Fandom: Star Wars The Bad Batch
Summary: As Crosshair reunites with his family he notices that someone is not there.
Seeing his brothers again was a lot for Crosshair. He thought he had told them not to come, to leave him behind like they had before. Even if understood why now, it still hurt. The scar was still a scab.
But then he noticed, Tech was missing. His body shook with a chilling realization. It felt like his whole body went cold and he almost froze in place. It was the only reason he wouldn't be there. Tech had to be dead.
Fear gripped his heart and squeezed. It was almost painful. But maybe he was wrong. Maybe Crosshair was wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
He wanted to ask but the fear and uncertainty left him speechless. Instead he put one foot in front of the other. He followed the rest of his family outside of this awful place that had broken him. They led him to the light he had long forgotten.
Hope.
Still, Crosshair couldn't be happy. As they walked he realized there was no way Tech could be with them. Was he hurt? Could he be with the Marauder? Why did they look so, nervous.
When they did get to the Marauder, Rex was waiting. Warm blood was replaced with ice water. He was gone. That's why they were nervous; why Omega hadn't said anything when he asked about them. She didn't know how to tell him.
The water froze him. He stood still, staring at the Marauder. He thought about every memory that he had with Tech in it. There was no way he was gone. Not without saying goodbye right?
But hadn't they already? Was their last encounter supposed to give him closer? Was he supposed to be okay? Could he move? Did moving mean excepting?
Hunter put a hand on Crosshair's shoulder and tried to move him along. "We need to go."
"He's not there, is he?"
An icicle plunged into the man's heart. "No. Tech's not there."
Crosshair wanted to cry. The only thing that stood in his way was dehydration.
"We have to go Crosshair" Hunter shook. He put slight pressure on his brother's back, trying to move forward.
Slowly Crosshair moved, Hunter's hand generating enough heat to move his frozen body forward. He was finally home.
Home was different than he remembered. First of all there was room for Omega. Then Tech's bunk had been left untouched. His blanket was still folded over.
Crosshair looked at his own. It had been made. He knew he hadn't made it. He moved the blanket to find a small letter. A chill went up his spine as he grabbed it.
It was from Tech. He gently opened it with shaky hands. He pulled the letter out of the envelope and unfolded it.
It read, "Dear Crosshair, I didn't know what would happen. In truth I didn't expect the mission to go well. But I knew we had to go. If not for anything, to make up for the damage we had done to you. That is not to say you didn't hurt us as well. I hope I will retrieve this letter once I am on the ship. If not, I was told it is best to not leave words unsaid. You were a good brother Crosshair. I was grateful to have you."
Crosshair held the letter to his chest. That was the most affection Tech had ever shown to him. He laid on his bed and let out a sigh. This was going to be hard.

Did Crosshair really have his chip out on Kamino?
Rewatching this scene, I have so many FEELS about it.
Like – it’s so easy to see on Omega when she’s scared. But her brothers are far better at hiding it, because of their training and… older physical age. But sometimes, there are glaring reminders of how young they actually are. Like this.
Tumblr media
The oldest clones are thirteen, but I’m pretty sure ones as young as eight have been sent to the front lines. I think I heard that’s how old Echo was.
I suspect that’s how old the Bad Batch were, too.
And that they’re probably only about nine now. They were clearly young enough that Omega remembered them being there, and before, meaning they must’ve been there when she was three-four-ish.
But yeah. It’s normally very, very hard to see Hunter being remotely insecure about anything. But then there’s… that. And the way he visibly tenses when Crosshair comes in. I just. OW. That’s his little brother. His maybe very annoying but still chaotic little fluffball of a brother who always jumped to his defense for anything. Until the Empire came along. And Hunter’s scared of him.
Not that it’s hard to know why.
It’s not like Hunter doesn’t know the Empire believes in torturing people. Hunter was there when they rescued the Senator on Raxus. He saw that torture droid. Honestly. What do you think he expected to happen?
And that cold, aloof way Crosshair was acting certainly didn’t help. And that’s why I can’t believe Crosshair is really himself in any of that. Because if he was, he wouldn’t have been dumb enough of drag all his brothers out there in the first place. He might not’ve known Hunter fell off a cliff, but he didn’t even check him over to see if he was alright. He didn’t… anything. Yeah, they were being watched the whole time, but he still could’ve – would have – tried to reach out to him in some way Hunter at least would understand if it really was him doing all this.
And Hunter always covers his fear with anger. His anger is only ever a mask. It’s not real. And it only shows up when he’s worried about either his siblings, or the mission. Except then. On Kamino. With Crosshair.
And as a sidenote, can we not forget Crosshair was shoving Hunter around with his own blaster in all of that?
That’s just.
So incredibly against the soft, compassionate brother we know him to be.
Oh, yeah. And let’s not forget the fact that Crosshair literally tried to stab Hunter in the neck with his own knife. Goodness.
So yeah. Rewatching ep15-16, I have no question whether or not Crosshair’s still being controlled.

3rd season - The Bad Batch - SPOILERS FROM EPISODE 5!!
It will be short but dear force...my heart hurts so much not only bcs Hunter doesn't trust Crosshair (I know, I know it's kinda logical thinking after everything they've been through) but scene with Mayday's helmet and helmets of his teammates when Bad Batch were in base at this F***ing pice of ice >:3 my dear, my dear, I wanted to hug him so much.
Also I was sure that Crosshair would totally press his forehead to Mayday's helmet, maybe even shed one tear :<
Just let me hug him! Let me comfort him! Come on! And let's kill Hemlock. He's dangerous. Veryyyyy dangerous!
