Arachne Centaur

Spider, spider crawl around, skitter, scatter then leap and bound, in a web they stay and glare, eight shining eyes are over there

In my sketches these kinds of weird centaur things tend to be my compromise  between making more humanoid sketches against maing more monstery designs - that way I still get practice at drawing monsters and vehicles even though I mostly post person shaped designs online. That being said I hardly ever take any of them to completion, which I dont feel too bad about since theyre kinda simple.

This one in particular came about from me wholesale ripping some organic jet and tank sketches I made and just mashing them in for a character I only drew the upper torso of. Initially it had two extra set of legs, but I couldnt figure out a way to make them look good while overlapping the ones in the sketch.

To compromise so I could still say it had eight limbs (even though spiders have more than eight), I added those clawed tendrils to the back - the idea is that they can grab things more easily while suspended above them with those than the “regular” arms.

I think that the silhouette looks incredibly striking as a result but to me its noticeable I took a lot of shortcuts, and this one feels somewhat unfinished compared to my other completed pieces...

A few critters I forgot to put in the previous sketch collection.

1 - some sort of tiger-theropod, ironically a loyal animal companion.

2 - a sort of little mermaid creature.

3 - another strange horse.

4 - giant worm monster which interestingly spits out its little minions in pieces so they have to assemble themselves.

Also just today I had an epic dream that I unfortunately lack the skills to draw, as it centered around human superheroes/villains. The first POV character was somewhat like Marvel`s Vulture (except with an interesting setup of jet engines forming a tripartite "tail" of the mecha-wing-suit), but she literally acted as a "vulture" for superheroes. You know when the hero leaves the bad guys all tied up for the police and leaves? That`s when she would swoop in, though I`m not sure what exactly she stole, since she would go even after regular criminals. The second POV was essentially a better Spider-Man in that he was a creepy spider-taur cyborg, to the point that the authorities which had a beef with him didn`t even know if he was human. Therefore, they decided to poison him with some kinda "pesticides" (???), but when tested on regular arachnids they turned them into monstrous kaiju (comic book moment lol). Those rampaged in what looked like a normal city at first, but was revealed to actually be indoors at some absurdly large testing facility.

A funny detail is that when swithcing the POV from a flying character to a flightless one, my mind apparently decided that was unfair and gave the spider-guy the ability to jump and glide enormous distances.

For The Thing I meant from Fantastic Four rather than the titular Thing from the movie. Give your monster some extra cosmic radiation mutation to put more monster in your monster so you can enjoy the tropes of being a monster on top of the tropes of being a monster!

That does not sound healthy for said monsters tho like

I’m pretty sure they’re all breathing in magic radiation already I don’t need to double it up with more sciencey radiation

Plus there’s only so many like. Things you can have a character be before they start having too many “status ailments”

Like a fire using, vampiric, undead, cyborg, demonic, aquatic, expert chef, magical girl, goth, Punk, business, nerd taur who can also fly and is also a dragon or something

Like that’s a lot. Of stuff to work with and work out
