“I feel so messed up. My thoughts are scattered, I’m tired a lot, and I keep worrying about things. I’m so screwed up!” I smiled, “welcome to being human.” When I treat patients, alot of them think they are messed up for having difficult emotions. But difficult emotions, anxiety, depression, worry, fear, that’s all part of being human. It’s normal to feel those things. . It’s how you act in the middle of feeling all the things that determines your life. And even then, if you act out of strength instead of fear, you will still have moments where fear overwhelms you. In my opinion, life is a practice, alot like yoga is a practice. You breathe and live through the difficult emotions and work to practice love and strength even when you feel anxiety, fear and despair. The pathway forward is more like a river’s stream full of twists and turns. It’s up to us to hold on less tightly and take it all a little less seriously even when it feels very very serious. . That’s something to practice, and we should always understand it’s a practice, and no one will ever be perfect at it. In treating patients, the art is trying to help them reach harmony…knowing that harmony is something is something we each will have to come back to time and time again. That’s just the reality of being human. . Emotional Validation
Emotional validation is important for me to feel comfortable in my life with what I deal with. Through a disability I didn’t know I had, I have spent a lifetime looking for emotional validation. I helps us deal with what we have to deal with.
Around the vaccine, for those like myself with already pre-existing conditions to deal with, there is no information out there on the vaccine and with an already lowered immunity, contraindications on how we may fair, taking any of the vaccines.
The reality of living through the pandemic is difficult and although I cannot prevent emotional storms from cropping up, I am learning how to relate to each challenging moment and thought.
It is important we live presently and stay in control of our lives. ‘Showing up’ means we’re taking control, control to work through uncertainty, fear, social isolation and financial hardships.
Through autism, I have more fear and uncertainty to deal with. Mental health has never been so important than it is now. How we feel today and cope with Covid-19, is not how we will cope tomorrow.
If I was adept at coping under stress, the pandemic has changed that. We are all now exposed to daily conflict through Covid-19, with the majority of us working solo. It is difficult to have any resolution around a virus you can’t see or understand.
Where we are relying on information and politicians to keep us safe, that information isn’t always forthcoming, which adds more to our stress. Validation and feeling understood calms me, if only for a finite time.
Validation helps us regulate our emotions, allowing us to mentally and emotionally function and so that we can protect ourselves.

🔹 there are many unhelpful myths about eating disorders. This one focusses on the severity being minimal because a choice to control eating is involved. There are complex biological, social and psychological components involved in the development and maintenance of an eating disorder. In most cases the eating disorder becomes the primary way of coping with intense emotions and adverse life experiences. ⠀⠀ 🔹 recovery is not an easy process and it’s certainly not a matter of simply choosing to eat more/less food. Recovery involves addressing key issues which are often highly emotive and difficult to face. Recovery is much more than simply changing eating habits. ⠀⠀ 🔹 whilst there are more females who present with eating disorders, there are a growing number of men who are also opening up about their eating disorder. Out of the 1.6 million people affected by an eating disorder in the UK, 11% are male. Experiencing more unpleasant emotions yesterday/today since I got word that my husband's company is abruptly shutting down. We have been starting a new job hunt for him and, luckily, I can take my work with me so we have more options than some. While we appreciate all the positive energy/encouragement being sent our way, we also are trying to take the time to mourn this job he is losing & the fantastic teams of people he worked alongside. We often try to avoid our emotions which make us feel bad. We are often blinded by toxic positivity, which tells us we should only think positively no matter what, neglecting the other emotions. But these suppressed emotions create so many difficulties in people.
