Maybe missing smth but I feel like the end goal of feminism should be to recognize that men, women, and others are not significantly or necessarily different; that each is capable of anything any other gender can do; that we find both pride in our own presentation and the presentation of others of the same and different gender. Obviously the focus was/is on women to gain equality but I feel like that morphed into the separation from all masculine things in order to celebrate "divine femininine" a concept that included not only pink, skirts, makeup, etc, but also the ability to give birth. This separation that was perhaps intended to band women together instead excludes a vast swath of women who are not feminine; who do not give birth; etc. whether by choice or ability. And instead of rectifying this it was doubled down on, pushing out people who could not perform this, so we ended up 30+ years backwards into gender essentialism.

So instead of gaining equality, a wedge was driven between men and women that not only exacerbated the issue of sexism but also abandoned those who did not fit the bill (trans & nonbinary people, intersex people, disabled people, gender nonconforming people, etc).

I think maybe recognizing "I am proud to be the gender that I am" should not come with the requirement of "I am proud to conform to the societal image of my gender" . Ironically, those who are currently othered (listed above) are the communities who have gotten this idea of "I love the way I am and your way is valid, too" correctly for decades. i.e. Butches and femmes (in majority) don't think of the other as being less of a lesbian because they approach their identity differently.

That leads to a question of how do we actually define gender if all genders are not necessarily different....who give a shit though? like you are a man if you feel you are (you want to be) a man no matter your approach.
