What was interesting to me was the description on the demo. They met at high school (apparently they didn’t study at Los Feliz) and formed the band while being students (which was obvious)

Summary:

Phantoms, the new Network TV show, recently got picked up for its second season and filming is already underway. The show follows a special government unit tasked with dealing with the supernatural. The series will return Marci Harrison who portrays the lead detective in charge of a group of junior detectives (Reggie Peters, Alex Mercer, Kayla Caro), forensic scientists (Luke Patterson and Julie Molina), and a rookie detective (Flynn Rider).

Julie Molina is enjoying her time on Phantoms, the supernatural detective show. It had been her saving grace after being blacklisted from basically everywhere following her media feud with former Disney Channel costar Carrie Wilson that tanked her music career before it even started.

But with rumors that the show isn’t going to get a third season, Julie is worried about her career completely ending with no jobs or recording contracts in sight.

Add in the fact that even if they get a third season, Julie’s costar might leave the show and go off to pursue his music career.

And Julie is trying to understand why said costar potentially leaving is making her so upset.

Phantoms, the new Network TV show, recently got picked up for its second season and filming is already underway. The show follows a special government unit tasked with dealing with the supernatural, the characters teasingly referring to themselves as ghost hunters. The series will return Marci Harrison who portrays the lead detective in charge of a group of junior detectives (Reggie Peters, Alex Mercer, Kayla Caro), forensic scientists (Luke Patterson and Julie Molina), and a rookie detective (Flynn Rider).

Marci Harrison, 46, affectionally called Mrs. Harrison by her costars, is definitely the most veteran member of the cast, previously starring in two other shows for the Network, playing a teacher on the hit ten-season show Recess, and is recently coming off of a four-season show starring as the mother on Home with the Houses. Mrs. Harrison plays Captain Hopkins, the serious no-nonsense lead detective constantly dealing with the antics of her younger and less experienced detectives.

Flynn Rider, 22, plays detective Fiona, the fun and wild rookie whose first day on the job opened up the series. Rider previously played the youngest daughter in the Freeform show, Life with the Clarks, for eight seasons, spending almost her entire teens growing up on the show. She also has been announced as part of the cast for the new superhero movie coming next Spring. Rider was moved up to second billing behind Harrison for the second season, the showrunners stating that it was always the plan and that the show will spend time following her storyline.

Alex Mercer, 24, and Reggie Peters, 24, play detectives Allan and Rick respectively. The two play the buddies on the show, with Peters playing the more chaotic and jokester of the two and Mercer playing the more levelheaded one, although his character still gets roped into all of the antics. Mercer previously starred on a handful of Nickelodeon shows while Peters has spent a lot of time doing voice work and only a few camera jobs.

Kayla Caro, 24, plays the strong detective Kristen, who has the most experience of the detectives besides their captain and spends a lot of time putting the guys in their place and kicking ass. Caro spent many years in the industry, modeling and doing many commercials. She is most known for her dancing, specifically as a troupe dancer on Dancing with the Stars for two seasons. She also starred as the love interest in the superhero-themed Disney Original Movie, Super Senior.

Julie Molina, 22, and Luke Patterson, 24, might be last on the cast list, but the two have been slowly gaining a small but mighty following for their portrayal of science duo Dr. Jane Ortega and Logan Guise. The two characters take care of the forensic side of the show, playing the inseparable best friends and partners who might be a little nerdy and cannot always understand the social cues of their fellow team members. Molina is best known for her lead role on the Disney Channel show Dirty Candies but is known even more for the very public feud with her costars Carrie Wilson and Nick Danforth-Evans. Patterson has probably the most extensive resume out of all of the younger cast, even rivaling Harrison. Patterson has worked since he was a small child, starring in many movies, tv shows, and commercials since. Patterson has also been announced as the lead for Frank Wolfe’s new film about a struggling indie rockstar. Molina and Patterson had previously worked together on the Disney Channel's Original Movie Meddling, playing the older siblings of the two main characters that they try to get together.

After barely getting picked up for season two, showrunner and executive producer Caleb Covington says that he plans on making the second season more impactful, with more character development, more spooky (and a little wacky) storylines, and scenes to really show off the talented casts acting chops.

SAVED BY THE BELL WAS CANCELLED??!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

Bestie, I'm just as shocked as you are. They announced it in May. Though Peacock hasn't given an official reasoning, nor will we likely ever get one, ScreenRant speculates it's due to the show's ratings not being higher since season one, plus the service is still looking for their Hit Show. (The hero product they can flaunt with and, consequently, be on the same level as their competitors like Disney+) So, they'd want to invest in creating that show instead of SBTB that was just doing 'okay'.

It's just really unfortunate. I don't understand why shows like SBTB (or even JATP, made for younger teens) get cancelled. There's a clear market for YA shows such as these, but somehow aren't getting the proper attention of higher-ups.

On another note, I'm interested to see how the Degrassi reboot by HBO Max will be received. Degrassi had its edgy/dark moments at times, so knowing the service, I assume they'll turn that up to eleven and dial back on the cheesiness and lightheartedness the show possessed as well. It makes me wonder if this is the direction the teen tv landscape will go in: the death of the tween. It's either Disney Channel, or teen show reboots ran by adult streaming services that barely capture the teenage experience at all.

It's so frustrating. Why can't teenagers just be... teenagers?

something i haven't seen mentioned about the Baymax + Sofia episode (and the final episode about finding Baymax) is the way they depict Sofia's ability to talk about her period!! When her best friend Ali, who I believe identifies as a guy, comes to check on her in the bathroom, instead of her blushing and freaking out and being like "it's girl stuff you wouldn't understand!!" - which is an incorrect and very Disney channel response - she's like "dude I have my PERIOD I am IN PAIN and there is stuff COMING OUT OF ME" and he is like "whoa dude I'm sorry but also cool!! I remember when my sister got hers!!" And then she brings her period up to Hiro later when she meets him!! And it's like yeah this is how friendships should be and how periods should be talked about and treated in our day to day lives without shame or embarrassment

There is something really weird about Bobby and I don’t know if somebody talked about it before but I will

In the last Jatp book “We got the music” it says that

“Trevor Wilson broke into the music industry…in the mid-nineties” IN THE MID-NINETIES?

So right after the boys died? It’s insane. What a cruel person Bobby is.

His best friends died and his next thought was: “I’m gonna steal Luke’s notebook and release all the songs he wrote?” ?

After that is mentioned:

He literally talked about Luke💀

He used his dead best friend to earn money and succes…evil

Luke’s parents thought Luke failed in his music career. But he didn’t. Trevor is the clear example that Luke would’ve been so successful.

And the last thing

Bobby got his new name from a street performer, as it was mentioned on “Whatever happens”.

“Maybe one day, when I made it big, I’d change my name to something like that” He was talking about his solo career or about the band? Cause it sounds weird💀

And what about Rose? Why Rose helped him in his music career? Why she stayed friends with him?

I really tried to defend young Bobby. He was just seventeen, was Luke’s childhood friend, but it’s very bad what he did. It’s such a shame we didn’t get a second season to see how Bobby would’ve handled the situation.

Maybe he had his reasons somehow, but we never got a second season…Why Netflix why😭

“You know Luke if you wanted to do movie night, you could have just asked?” Julie told Luke after he set his guitar down and grabbed the remote as the two sat on his couch.

“But if we label this as a songwriting session we can write it off on our taxes as a work expense,” Luke replied, clicking on some comedy on Netflix.

“You are so weird,” Julie rolled her eyes, which caused Luke to stick his tongue out at her.

It had been about a week since Julie had won TVLine Performer of the Week, and almost two since the season two finale. No one had really heard anything from the studio or any news outlets about the fate of the show. Most of the cast had just become numb to it all. It took a toll on all of them to stress about it all day and they were now to the point where they had almost forgotten about it, basically making it to the other side of the stress that they didn’t even think was possible. They felt like zombies, going through the motions of each day as the fate of their careers hung in the balance.

“Hey get off your phone,” Luke shoved Julie a few minutes into the movie. Julie didn’t budge though, the phone pressed up to her face, in complete shock. Luke, realizing that whatever was going on was serious, pulled out his phone which had been on silent.

Notifications flooded his screen, including a few voicemails from his management team. “Of fuck.”

“What does this mean?” Julie asked, the glow of her phone completely lighting up her face in the partially dark living room.

“I have no idea.”

Caleb Covington and Phantoms are trending on Twitter

TVDaily: Phantoms’ network has announced that it will not be renewing its contract with Caleb Covington, showrunner and executive producer. No news on what this means for the fate of the TV Show.

TVInsider: Caleb Covington's network contract was not renewed. Phantom’s was the EP and showrunner’s project. It’s all but confirmed that Phantom’s will not be renewed.

TVScoop: Phantoms all but confirmed to not be renewed by network, Caleb Covington fired from the show.

Bobby: I’ve been talking to a few people I know. They think it's true. If they are cutting their contracts, it’s not a good thing.

Julie: Phantoms was Caleb’s show. It was his baby. If they are cutting him they are most likely cutting the show.

Luke: I believe he had a three-show contract with the studio. One was Phantoms, one was his failed Reality Show about The Other Side of Hollywood and the other one was his one-season game show Got Nothing To Lose.

Willie: So if the show was canceled why wouldn’t it just be a nonrenewal? Because if the show was canceled then his contract would be completed?

Flynn: I’m on the phone with my dad right now. They don’t know if it was just not a renewal or if they ended his contract. The new stations aren’t consistent and there is no real confirmation. He is calling around to see who knows what.

Flynn: But Willie is right in the sense that if they canceled the show his contract would be done unless there was a clause about a certain amount of episodes etc which he might have not hit because of the failed pilot

Flynn: We don’t know anything because of course his contract wasn’t leaked. I’ll let you guys know once I know more.

Flynn: But to be honest guys, it doesn’t look good.

Reggie: Mrs. Harrison, do you have any idea? You would know out of all of us?

Kayla: Mrs. Harrison are you there??

Julie: Mrs. Harrison???

Disney Cares About Their Customers

This may seem strange to say but compared to other networks at large, Disney is trying to put their best foot forward. They are obviously not perfect but they do see what their consumers gravitate towards and try to give them what they want.

Of course this can cause them to have some dated material (Coop and Cami Ask the World) but they always aim to deliver. They have given us sequels and spin offs to shows and movies cause they see the demand. Disney+ even goes further and directly reaches out to consumers to see what they want.

This willingness does not stop there. We all know about the hit that is Encanto. To better showcase the diversity of the Madrigal family, Disney created a system just to be able to develop the correct hair for it and other projects. That system has steadily been improved over time so that they could give us the different textures, patterns, and colors of the Madrigal family.

Disney+ currently does not have a show with a Latin family (we are half counting Diary of a Future President since the kids are supposed to be mixed and the Cuban heritage is….oddly done in the show in my opinion). Julie and the Phantoms can slot in perfectly. The band would also blow HSMTMTS out of the water when it comes to music. Hulu has Love Victor who are half Colombian/half Puerto Rican. Shout out to my boricuas doing it big!

Disney has done the This is Who I Am shorts and talked about the heritage of its stars (Booboo talked about his Asian heritage on there). Mads would be better able to show the world what it means to be Puerto Rican. Also Charlie could promote his Acadian heritage which is something many don’t know or understand.

Disney would not let Julie and the Phantoms flounder because it has a Latin American lead like Netflix does. They would embrace it and let it be known. Disney would do their best to be inclusive and show diversity and representation. Also if Lin could have a guest spot or work on something in the show would be stellar (since he works extensively with Disney).
