“Mate I can’t get that girl out of my head.” Felix said taking a sip of his beer while he sat across from Farleigh waiting for the rest of there friends to appear
“Which one? The one you took home?” Farleigh asked lighting a cigarette before handing the box to Felix who sighed while taking a cig for himself and lighting it up
“No no the one friends with Indi.” Felix said taking a drag while Farleigh laughed
“Oh y/n, yeah she’s a sight for sore eyes if I do say so myself.” Farleigh began before laughing “shame she’s so self righteous. Indi says she’s the most opinionated person she knows.”
Almost like it was on cue the girl came walking in with indi and the rest of there friends following behind. Her eyes almost instantly locked with Felix’s and he swore he could have passed out in the spot while she’s claim the butterflies she felt were purely coincidental.
“Hi guys, you remember y/n from last night she’s finally decided to sack off the books not that she needs them the clever cloggs.” Indi said making her friend chuckle as she rolled her eye’s playfully
“Hi y/n.” Felix said with a warm smile while Farleigh took it upon himself to offer her his seat next to Felix “Y/n, you take a seat me and Indi will go get drinks.”
“It’s Felix’s right?” Y/n asked pretending as if she hadn’t memorised this name the second he told her that previous night
“Yeah it’s Felix, how are you? How’s the head?” He asked hinting as to how hard she was going yesterday evening. Y/n laughed as she got comfortable in her seat
“The head is fine however the smell of vodka might make me vomit so I beg of indi not to bring them over.” Y/n said Felix’s eyes had not left her he’d barely even acknowledged the rest of his friends as of yet.
“I’ve never seen someone drink that many vodka sodas.” Felix joked while y/n sarcastically gasped showing fake hurt
“What are you trying to say, Felix?” She joked while the same smile played on his lips
“Oh nothing at all, y/n.” Felix said and with a playful grin, offered her a sip of his beer. Y/n hesitated, Felix gently held the glass to her lips, titling it carefully as she took a mouthful. However, as the bitter taste registered, her expression shifted from curiosity to a grimace. Felix chuckled, realizing her distaste, and quickly pulled the glass away.
“Not a beer girl?” He hummed and she shook her head “hmmm I thought as much.” Y/n faked her offence once again before indi and Farleigh came waltzing back over
“Vodka soda, your favourite.” Indi said handing her the glass as y/n groaned while the two turned to the rest of the group
“Don’t worry darling, I’ll hold your hair back when you start vomming.” Felix joked his arm falling on the back of her chair casually, in reality his heart was racing at a million mile at the anticipation of her pushing it off.
“You’re on thin ice, Felix.” She joked
The rest of the night was spent laughing and joking with the group every now and then the pair breaking off for the own conversations
“No no it’s not romantic in the slightest.” She argued the group had somehow gotten on to the topic of Romeo and Juliet which y/n always had a very opposing idea to the majority. Felix had no care of the topic he just wanted to hear her talk
“How is it not?” Indi asked her friend
“It’s a mockery of young love They both had a severe lack of self identity because of there limits of freedom their family’s put on them Juliet views Romeo as her only freedom because she’s getting forced to marry Paris she sees herself choosing romeo as being free. That being said Juliet was never Romeos first choice he was just depressed that Rosaline didn’t love him back. Juliet was a rebound not a true love.” Y/n explained while Felix started at her In complete awe
“God you’re incredible.” He whispered to himself but she heard and he knew she did from the way her cheeks turned crimson. She quickly excused herself to the bathroom with indi following close behind
“What did I say? Incredibly opinionated.” Farleigh said to his cousin who simply shook his head
“She’s something else.” Felix whispered
Meanwhile In that bathroom, indi sat on the sink while y/n was in the bathroom stall “you know I’ve never seen him like this, or you like this even.” Indi said just before y/n came out of the stall
“What do you mean?” Y/n asked as she began to wash her hands
“Felix is never interested in what anyone has to say but he can’t seem to stop looking at you listening to every word you say and you you’ve never blushed at someone calling you incredible before especially a boy, what happened to my old I don’t need a man y/n?” Indi explained and y/n shrugged while she dried her hands
“You’re thinking too much into this indi, he’s just a sweet guy I’m still same old me.” She said as they left the bathroom.
“It’s getting pretty late we’re thinking off heading off.” One of the other girls said before everyone agreed that it was time to head home.
“Y/n, could I walk you home?” Felix asked she nodded grabbing her things while the rest of the group sorted themselves out they pair didn’t bother to say there goodbyes just leaving the pub and walking back towards campus.
They talked about nothing and everything all at once as they walked almost too close to one another neither one wanting to take things too far. When they got to her door she stood looking up at him after unlocking the door. If this was any other girl they’d of already invited him in but y/n wasn’t like that
“So when can I see you again?” Felix asked and y/n smiled looking at her feet before looking back up at him
“Whenever you’d like.” She said in almost a whisper
“I don’t know if indi has invited you but we’re heading out for drinks tomorrow you should join us.” He suggested and she nodded the pair were dangerously close to one another both still too nervous to make a move.
“I’d love to.”
“I’ll pick you up at 7?” Felix more told than asked and she just nodded before leaning up on her toes
“Goodnight Felix.” She whispered planting a soft kiss on his cheek before disappearing Inside her room.
From that day on the pair were inseparable it didn’t take long for Felix to start calling her his girlfriend much to everyone’s surprise. Wherever she was, he was and vice versa. The pair were joint at the hip.
“There’s my girl.” He said holding his arms open as y/n and Farleigh walked into the library books in hand. Y/n rushed over to him planting a kiss on his lips as he pulled her onto his lap.
“Hi Fi.” She said kissing him once more mumbling how she missed him.
“Hey baby girl.” Her stomach flipped at the nickname, something about that way it rolled off his tounge made her feel like she was the only person in the world that mattered to him. If you asked him, she was.
“So I was thinking…” y/n began her fingers dancing up his arm as he pulled her close
“What we’re you thinking pretty?” He asked his hand dangerously high on her thigh
“All of class I just couldn’t stop thinking about you, your hands, your mouth…” she continued and it didn’t take much more for him to be helping her off his lap
“We’re gonna go.” Was all he said patting y/n’s arse as he grabbed her hand dragging her to her dorm room as quickly as he could.
Flexi had practically moved into her dorm room at this point and tonight was like no other the pair laying in her bed facing each other while his hand rested on her cheek.
“I don’t know I guess everything that happened with Daniel made it hard for me to trust people until you came along.” She said as he listened to every word she said just as he always did
“What happened with Daniel?” Felix asked there has never been anything off limits in there relationship but she’d never spoken about her ex until now.
“He made me do things I didn’t want to do and wasn’t ready for even if I said I didn’t want to. He told me that if I loved him I’d do whatever he asked of me.” She told him and Felix didn’t need to be told what she meant he knew from the look in her eyes
“I’m so sorry that happened to you baby girl.” He said leaning in and kissing her softly she smiled into the kiss, oh how she adored that pet name.
“It’s okay, I have you now.”
“That’s right baby, and I’ll never let anyone hurt you again.” He said as she kissed him again mumbling against his lips
“You’re the sweetest.”
“I’m serious baby, if anyone hurts you, I’ll be going to prison for life.” He said in the most serious tone he could and she knew he meant it. Y/n couldn’t help but smile at his words laughing slightly before adding
“I’ll send you love letters while you’re in there.” Felix connected there lips once again moving to hovering above her one hand holding him up the other toying with her waistband
“Yeah? With Polaroids of you looking all pretty for me?” He asked and she nodded her breathe catching in her throat has his hand slipped under her shorts
“I’ll even where that dress you like so much.”
“God you’re just perfect.”
Y/n groaned half asleep at the knocking on her door “Indi go away.” She mumbled but when the door still swung open revealing her parents and sister she knew she was done for
“Hi darling -Oh!” Her mum said noticing Felix beside her daughter y/n shook Felix awake pulling the duvet over them
“What baby.” He mumbled and she just continued to shake him
“What are you guys doing here?” She asked panicking slightly
“We just thought we’d come for the day and take you to lunch we know how busy your schedule is.” Her sister said not even caring that there was a boy wrapped around her. By now Felix had sat up but was at a lots for words
“Mum, dad, Amelia… this is Felix my boyfriend.” Y/n said nervously
“It’s ah… nice to meet you.” Felix said the air was thick
“We’ll we’re thinking of going for lunch in an hour or so why don’t the two of you get ready and meet us at that little cafe, you know the one we went to last time at 2?” Her mum said trying to bypass the awkwardness of walking in on her daughter in bed with a man she’d never seen before
“Yeah sounds good we’ll see you there.” Y/n said practically shooing them out while her sister lingered back for a few seconds
“It reeks of sex in here.” Amelia added before following her parents out
“God that is not how I thought this morning was going to go!” Felix joked as she groaned burying her face in his chest
“That was so embarrassing.” Y/n mumbled while Felix just laughed dragging her up along with himself in order for them to get ready.
“Are you sure I look okay?” She asked as they stood outside the cafe Felix nodded leaning down to kiss her gently
“You look beautiful baby girl, love it when you wear my clothes.” He said referring to his yellow button up she’d thrown over her dress it practically was the same length as the dress but he still loved it regardless.
“We should head in.” She said grabbing his hand as she opened the door and they headed in. When they got to her table Felix pulled her chair out for her which had her mothers heart swelling with joy
“Hi lovely and this must be the wonderful Felix.” Laurel, her mum said with that warm smile all mothers seem to have.
“It’s nice to meet you, properly.” Felix joked referring to earlier that morning, Felixs took y/n’s hand that rested in the table giving it a small squeeze to help ease her nerves.
“Y/n told us she was seeing someone but I didn’t know it was serious.” Laurel added taking a sip of her coffee that has just arrived. Y/n admired the way nothing had changed her mum would always be the same woman who could barely sit down in a restaurant without having a coffee minutes later
“It kinda just happened mum.” Y/n said her eyes flickering from Felix to her parents
“Well Im glad we get to meet the boy that’s changed our darling girl stance on love.” Her dad, David, said trying to keep his cold front on but he was the biggest softy at heart
“Oh if anything she’s changed mine, she’s really special your daughter.” Felix said looking over at y/n was was looking up at him with nothing but love in her eyes.
“Are you all ready to order?” The waitress asked as she came over to the table
“Yes thank you I’ll have the chicken ceases salad and a Latte please.” Y/n said before everyone else made their orders before her parents started with the usually questions about her academics along with questioning Felix about his.
“Oh Christ.” Y/n mumbled a few minutes later while her parents and sister discussed if it was a red or orange dress there cousin wore to someone’s wedding
“What’s wrong Darling?” Felix asked concerned looking over at her as she chewed on the inside of her cheek
“I forgot to ask for no tomatos.” She said and Felix couldn’t help but smile as she pouted slightly
“Oh! Don’t worry I’ve got you.” Felix flags down the waitress that took down there order previously
“I don’t want to be a pain.” She whispered
“I’m sure they won’t mind.” Felix squeezed her hand softly as the waitress approached the table, Felix gave the girl a warm smile; “I’m awfully sorry but my girlfriend here was being her usual thinking of a million and one things at a time and forgot to ask is there any chance we could get no dressing on that salad.”
“It’s really no problem if not, it’s my fault honestly.” Y/n interjected not wanting to be a pain
“That’s not a problem at all I’ll go tell the kitchen now.” The waitress said with a smile before rushing off towards the kitchen
“See pretty, told you they wouldn’t mind.” Felix said pressing a kiss to y/n’s temple as she smiled
“What would I do without you hey?” She half joked leaning her head on his shoulder for a few seconds
“Perish, I believe.” Everyone but her sister laughed at his joke while Amelia shoot y/n a strange look, one that she couldn’t quit read. Felix pressed a kiss to the back of her hand before politely excusing himself to the bathroom.
“Oh he’s just lovely, y/n.” Laurel said just as he was out of earshot
“I’m glad you like him.” Y/n smiled, she’d never been this nervous to introduce someone to her family but Felix was charming as ever she didn’t need to worry at all
“It’s nice to see someone treating my girl that way she deserves.” Her dad added
“I’m so happy for you, I know it’s been difficult after Daniel but oh Felix is just perfect for you.” Laurel said reaching over to sqeeze her daughters hand
“It really means a lot that you think that, I was really nervous for you to meet him especially after this morning.” Y/n admitted taking a sip of her water
“Oh don’t be silly, that’s nonsense we should have called first.”
“Do you like him melia?” Y/n asked looking at her sister who had been awfully quiet Amelia shrugged
“He seems alright.” Y/n frowned slightly disappointed her sister wasn’t more enthusiastic about her relationship
“Just alright?” Y/n asked and once again her sister shrugged
“I don’t know him so I can’t give an option.”
The rest of the lunch went swimmingly her parents telling Felix how much they adored him and how perfect he was for their daughter. Y/n getting all shy when Felix and her dad make a joke about him making sure to give them a call when he decides to ask for her hand in which he responded oh don’t worry I plan on it
Y/n had convinced her sister to stay with her and Felix for the evening insisting she gets a taste of Oxford for when she starts In Autumn. They had decided to get the group together and head to the local pub they always went to.
Y/n sensing the need for a breath of fresh air, leads her sister into the Pubs smoking area, a sanctuary of sorts in the midst of all the madness. The cold breeze nips at their faces as they find a secluded corner. Surrounded by the soft hum of distant traffic, Amelia breaks the silence.
“Y/n, do you really like Felix I mean come on this is nothing like you.” She asks watching as her sister takes a drag of her cigarette looking at Amelia confused
“What do you mean?” Y/n asked watching the way Amelia sighed as she sat on the wall letting y/n join her
“All of it you know, him calling you Darling, acting as if you’re codependent what happened to feminist iconic y/f/n.” Amelia asked and y/n let out a soft chuckle knowing exactly what Amelia was getting at
“First of all, i am a feminist obviously and you know as well as I do that I'm fine without a man but But don’t know I think I would his protection.” Y/n half joked but Amelia was dead serious about the topic
“But you’re not some damsel in distress though y/n.”
“That not the point though Amelia, I like that he wants to protect me I like that he wants to Wrap his arm around me, And tell me that he’ll keep me safe and before you say it I know I can protect myself But when he does it for me, it's hot as hell.” Y/n explained smiling as she thought about her boyfriend and how he’d just do anything for her without her even having to ask that of him.
“I just don’t want him to dim your light because yes he seems wonderful and I’m sure he’s lovely but you are everything. he is just a boy.” Amelia said. She had always admired her sister more than she cared to admit and it would kill her to see her lose the glimmer in her eyes over some boy.
“You know me better than I know myself that would never happen and he knows that.” Y/n put her cigarette out just as Felix came wondering outside his face lighting up when his eyes fell on the pair
“There you two are I’ve been searching all over.” He said as y/n stood up from her spot letting Felix wrap his arm around her waist and press a kiss to her temple as she melted into the embrace
“Hi darling.” She said looking up at him with nothing but adoration behind her eyes
“How’s my sweet girl, what we chatting about?” He asked looking too her sister and back to y/n
“I’m good and we were just talking about Amelia coming to Oxford next year.” Y/n shot her sister a wink as Amelia then stoop up
“Oh you’d love it here plus you’d fit right in everyone loves your sister they’re bound to love you.” Felix told Amelia who smiled looking at her sister
“It’s impossible not to love Her.”
“Oh don’t I know it, your sister here is one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met she has this way of making you feel like you’re the most important person in the room without ever making herself smaller she’s incredible, darling you’re incredible.” He rambled gushing about his girlfriend who couldn’t help but blush
“You’re just the sweetest aren’t you.” She said leaning up to plant a kiss on his cheek
“I’ll give it to you y/n, he’s far better than all the others.” Amelia said making Felix smile
“I’m going to take that compliment.”

Masters of the Air: The Angels of Death
Major John Egan x WASP! Oc
This is a little something I wanted to share with the fandom. I know I been a ghost for a few moths, but 2023 was an awful and horrendous year for me. I got depression and my grandma died and I had to take care of my family, and during my summer (I’m from the South) I was very depressed too lol. So know I’m back at university and this helps me to distract a little.
This comes from the idea I have for the BoB I’ve been working for years (yes, years, and no publications yet). I don’t plan it to be very complicated, like I just wrote it down and put it here.

Introduction
Bucky was having a really good time in England. Without counting the combat and missions of course. The rest of the 100th would be with him soon, and then, about a two weeks from that day, the war would get more interesting than the little man with a mustache.
The moment he saw his friend entering the officer’s mess hall with a cocky smile and doing a little dance, Major Gale Cleven got worried for whatever was about to happen. Or whatever that was going around Bucky's mind. He knew Bucky was a, well, interesting and care free man, out going and always wanting to experience life at most. When John saw his friend at the table, looking at him, Bucky did a little more of a show and sat in front of his fellow aviator.
“Isn’t this a beautiful day to be alive?” Bucky asked Buck. The last one didn't answer at first, then he smiled at him.
“Every day is a gift to live at war.”
Bucky laughed a little, “You’re starting to sound like Curt,” He pointed out. “But in this day in particular, my friend, angels would be coming to us like the very gift of God.” He informed (even if the big boss told him not to).
What?
“What?”
John laughed at his friend’s face, because obviously he didn’t understand a word of what he was talking about (again, Colonel Harold had ordered him to stay quiet).
“You are a prude, Buck.”, he liked to point those little facts about his friend, “Maybe we can get you a little of fun now.”
Yup, Buck had zero idea of what he was talking about.
Bucky leaned forward to the table, he did not wanted anyone hearing of it and spoil his fun. Buck did the same.
“After Pearl Harbor the Air Force pilots number reduced in a 30 percent, the man who got in to combat didn’t live very long. Most of the resources went to fight japs, a little more came like us to fight nazis. Then there wasn’t enough man to fight the war so they geniuses started training women.”
Gale had heard a little about it, in his training when the war started. Woman started piloting in no combat positions, but it looked like Bucky was meaning about other kind of duties.
“And?”
“And, they started training them to have combat positions. Fight pilots. They made them their own brand new plane model. I don’t know the details but I heard that it flight like a hawk.” Bucky explained while eating his friend toast. “They are coming today to be our escorts in missions.”
Buck was surprised. Astonished.
“Our own guardian angels.”
Later that day, before supper, Bucky did the same thing than that morning, instead of entering at mess hall, he entered at the officers barracks, howling about a how beautiful day it was to be alive.
“Buck! Time to go, the angels are coming!”, he said way too loud. The mentioned put down his book and reluctantly followed Bucky outside to the jeep.
John spent the whole ride to the base singing. Gale was not very sure of why he (Bucky) was so happy. Maybe, and probably, was the chances of getting laid right at the base, having fun closer enough to sleep at the barracks after drinking instead of doing it outside (Bucky’s experience).
Already at the tower, they waited for the girls to arrive.
Colonel Huglin was there too, and so other officers. Some questioned why Gale was there, “The full welcome from the 100th, sir.” Were John’s words.
Major Browman greeted them with a funny face. “Who would have say it, huh? We fighting along side woman. Equals.”
“There’s something bad about that?”, Buck asked.
“Of course no! For Pete’s sake. I’m just worried.” Red explained quickly. “I’ve heard they are good, like beating records kind of good. They are a special unit from the W.A.S.P, they are called the ‘Angels of death’, girls who where carefully chosen for it. And spent months training. The best of the best.” He informed, “But the boys are not going to be very happy about it.”
That one was true.
“What about their plane?”, Buck asked curiously.
“A special secret model.”, Colonel Huglin said. “Small, cheap, fast. The Supermarine Spitfire can fly to 606 miles per hour maximum burning a lot of fuel, the P-WN I can go to the speed of one of our fortress burning less than a third part of the tank.” He explained, looking back at the sky.
“So they can go to Germany, slap Hitler and come back like nothing.”, Bucky said.
Buck laughed, “Yeah, something like that.”
In that exact moment, the sound of the plane engines began to be heard in the distance. With binoculars, everyone who got them watched what was coming.
“They are here.”
Punctual, 12.00 hours.
Bucky and Buck saw how a bunch of sparkling dots flew towards them from the east, approaching quickly until they were able to see the planes. It were just like Huglin had said, small and fast.
Movement started at the tower, communication between them and the newcomers. They gave permission to land.
“Roger that.”
Every one watched how quickly those planes got in formation to land, in a fast and clean maneuver. They knew their thing.
When the planes where close enough, they could finally see how they looked like: it was like a mini Spitfire, pocket size. It was just the metal, glowing in the sun, the wings were long as thing as the nose, which was painted blue, white ad red. It was quite beautiful. It almost bordered on delicate.
One by one they landed and parked one beside the other, they looked like silver glowing statues.
The ones who were at the tower started heading to the newcomers while every pilot began to emerge from their planes, one by one from their cabin like butterflies and greet each other, happy for a easy flight and a safe landing.
John and Gale hop off the jeep like the rest of the men. They saw every girl with their flying uniforms and their bags in hand, obediently getting in the trucks that would take them to interrogation (it was just a formality).
Buck saw Colonel Huglin were talking with whom he supposed was the CO of the girls. Bucky had that funny smile of him, he looked around him until he saw a girl standing in the wing of the plane with a smile, eyes closed and feeling the British air. The only thing he could pick out of her, was her red hair. Another girl approached her and the first one jumped to the floor, they went to the trucks and Bucky was able to hear their conversation.
“Did you satisfied your hunger for flying?”, the girl who accompanied the redhead asked sarcastically.
The redhead laughed, “As if I ever could, Priya.”
Another woman, a blonde captain standing next to Huglin, heard this and said, "Don't worry, Ross, you'll have fun soon!" She exclaimed as the girls finally climbed into the trucks.
"Yes, ma'am."
All the girls laughed, the redhead blushed, obviously knowing what a mystery to Bucky was.
Soon she would know.

It Takes a Village
The next morning, Rosa found herself still thinking about skipping the outside Christmas decorations. Maybe it was a silly thing to worry about, but she’d noticed how disappointed Kensi and Deeks seemed at missing out on part of the tradition, despite their attempts to brush it off.
Yesterday had been fun for sure, between sharing stories, adding Kensi’s ball of lights to the tree, and consuming their weight in cookies and the hot chocolate Rosa made. Somehow it didn’t have the same magic as the year before when they’d started decorating after everyone got home, needing to pull out lights to finish, and then all stood outside examining their efforts in the dark.
Since it was a Saturday, she met for a morning study session, and then was free for the rest of the day. As she waited for her coffee at one of the campus cafes, a plan started to form.
Heading for the student center, she looked around for one of the students who’d become a close friend in the last few months. Alex Swartz was tall, lanky and in two of her pre-law classes. He also spent the majority of his time outside of classes camped out at one of the tables outside the cafeteria.
“Hi Alex,” she greeted him, taking a seat on the opposite side of the table. He looked up from the book in his hands, instantly straightening as a smile stretched across his lips. In many ways, he reminded her of Marty. If only in his personality.
“Rosa, hey! I didn’t know you were coming in today. You should have told me,” he said.
“I just had a study session. What are you doing today?”
“Um, studying for my history exam and then I’m not sure what else,” Alex said, lifting an eyebrow. “Why?”
Rosa folded her arms on the table, leaning forward, and exhaled quickly. “How would you feel about coming to help me decorate my parents’ house while they’re out at an appointment?”

“Oh my god, those chicken strips smell amazing!” Kensi groaned, thumping her head back on the headrest of her seat. After a financial appointment, a trip to the grocery store, and stopping at the Dairy Queen drive through, she felt like she could easily eat an entire chicken. Not that the twins would allow that at this point in her pregnancy.
“I told you I don’t mind if you dig in,” Deeks reminded her as he pulled into their neighborhood.
“No, no. You just got the truck detailed. I’m not getting grease on the seats.”
“That’s true love,” Deeks teased. He turned the corner onto their street, slowing down to accommodate the various cars and trucks parked along the sides, and frowned at the two parked on either side of their driveway. One he recognized as Rosa’s, the other was a mystery.
“Is it just my imagination or are there three kids on our roof?” Deeks asked as he climbed out of the truck with a bag of groceries.
“Nope. There’s definitely kids on our roof, and if I’m not mistaken, they’re putting lights up,” Kensi replied, walking up the driveway with him.
“Hi, Mr. And Mrs. Deeks!” called out a dark-haired young man Deeks had met a couple times before, waving from his perch on the roof.
“Hey Alex,” Deeks drawled as Rosa appeared from the garage.
“Oh, Kensi and Marty, I didn’t expect you back so soon,” she said in a rush, hurrying towards them.
“Clearly. What’s going on?” Kensi asked.
Intertwining her hands a little nervously, Rosa pressed her lips together, which made her resemble Kensi remarkably, and let out a short breath. “I asked Alex and his roommates to come help decorate.”
“Rosa, that’s—”
“I know, I know. You said you didn’t care, but I know how much it means to you,” she interrupted, her accent increasing slightly as she spoke more quickly. “And you’ve done so much for me, always making sure I have the best, and sacrificing for me. I wanted to do something for you, even if it isn’t that important.”
She finished with a little shrug, and Deeks’ face crumpled at the uncertainty in her voice. Simultaneously, he and Kensi enveloped her in a hug. Rosa made a little “oof” sound as she was squished between them.
“That’s one of the sweetest things you could have done,” Kensi whispered. “Thank you.”
“Best present ever,” Deeks added, kissing the side of Rosa’s head. “Just for the record though, there isn’t anything we wouldn’t do for you, and you never have to repay us for any of it. Because we love you.”
“I love you, too,” Rosa whispered, and Kensi pulled back waving a hand in front of her face.
“Ok, we gotta stop before I start bawling in front of your friends.”
Rosa laughed wetly, hugging Kensi closer as she leaned into Deeks’ shoulder.
“Hey, Rosa, I thought you were going to come up here and help me,” Alex called out from the roof, breaking the moment.
Rosa rolled here eyes, pulling back with an apologetic shrug. “I’m supposed to do the eaves.”
“Be careful,” Deeks shouted after her, watching her jog back to the house. “Damn, we sure got lucky, didn’t we?”
“We did,” Kensi agreed softly, laying her head on his shoulder.

Scraped Knees
CW: Major character death, mentions of blood, just a lot of angst.
One day ill learn to make a banner but today is not the day Word count is 1994.
“Do you remember when we were eight?”
“We spent the entire summer at the quarry searching for cool rocks for my aquarium.”

Lucille had gotten a fish tank right before summer break had started, she’d invited You, Nancy, Barb, Katie and Beth to meet her turtle who’d she’d named skipper.
“He can do tricks, he’s just shy with everyone watching.” Lucille had been bragging all day about how talented Skipper was, he knew his name already, he came when you called and he knew how to do tricks. Nancy had said it was impossible, turtles didn’t do tricks and Lucille had told the little group that you could see for yourself this weekend if you came over for a sleepover.
“Can turtles be shy?” Barb glanced at Katie skeptically, she knew her dog didn’t like big crowds so maybe it was the same with turtles? Katie just shrugged and walked away from the tank to plop down on her sleeping bag next to Beth who had fallen asleep the minute the clock had hit nine o’clock.
“I told you turtles can’t do tricks.” It was murmured to you just barely under her breath but Lucille still shot a glare in Nancy’s direction, her face flushed a red that rivaled the freckles dotting her face. You knew Nancy was most likely right but the fantasy book Eddie had shown you and the mermaids that occupied its pages had you hoping it was Lucille who was telling the truth.

“My parents had promised me a turtle if I could get the money for a tank, they had said it would show I was responsible enough to put in the effort of taking care of a pet. You had said we could get rocks for the bottom of the tank at the quarry, that they had really cool ones.”
“Come on, the cool ones are down here.”
“Eddie we’ve gotta go, we were supposed to be back before dark.”
“Your folks don’t even get back until ten, there’s no way they’ll know we didn't make it back in time.” Eddie reached a hand out to help you down the loose gravel, a incomplete grin beamed up at you already knowing that you wouldn’t be able to say no to a good adventure.
“If Wayne tells my dad we were out this late you’re doing all the extra chores they give me as punishment.” Your parents had never believe in grounding, or spankings, they said it was it would stifle your personality and that you just needed structure to blossom, their yoga instructor had handed them a parenting pamphlet a few months back and they’d taken it to heart, now you just had to clean Mrs.Marks garden of weeds or take Mr.Robinson's trash out if you got in trouble.
“You worry too much, they’ll never know.”
“We’d shove as many rocks as we could in your overall pockets.”
“I told you they’d find out about it Eddie.” Your eyes were rimmed in red, tears dripping down your cheeks as you cried to Eddie from your windows, arms resting on the ledge as you sobbed about all the trouble you’d gotten in. There had been no yelling, and you were tasked with helping old Mrs.Garcia’s laundry for the next two weeks but you’d been banned from seeing Eddie for that time.
“I don’t know why you’re crying, I'm the one who has to do it.” Eddie absent mindedly ran his tongue along the space where his tooth was growing in, his features scrunched up in disdain at the thought of having to hang up old lady clothes while she droned on about how her garden was doing this summer. “Besides, we can talk through the windows right?”
He could tell it hadn't really processed that even with your separation you two were still talking to each other, close enough you could see the smudge of chocolate on his cheek from whatever sweet treat he’d gotten from Wayne for lunch. You sniffled a few times and rubbed your running nose against your hand while nodding, yeah that was true you could still talk to each other. It wouldn’t be all bad.

“I remember that, they ripped on the way home so we scooped them up in your shirt. Mom was so upset, she’d just bought those for me.”
__
Two weeks had dragged on for what felt like years, made bearable by the time you’d get each morning and night when Eddie would stick his head out of his bedroom window to talk to you through your own.
“Do you wanna go to the quarry tomorrow?” Small hands held out a bar of strawberry taffy, the sound of creaking giving away the fact that Eddie was standing on a chair to get a closer reach to your window, whether the candy was a bribe or a peace offering for the trouble you’d gotten in you knew you would have said yes either way.
“My mom says you’re bad news.” You snatched the candy before he had a chance to reconsider, tearing the wrapper open and taking a bite while Eddie laughed.
“I get that a lot.”

“We went back every chance we got though.”

“Come on slowpoke, you're walking slower than Mrs.Garcia does.” The gravel crunched under Eddie’s heel when he turned to look at you, never breaking his stride and walking backwards with complete confidence in his abilities.
“Eddie slow down, you’re going to fall.” He continued to walk backwards, facing you with a steadfast grin, both his optimism and his steps never wavering while he continued to tease you for being so slow.
“I bet there’s some fish in the shallow water, we could catch some for your turtle.” The red pail in his hands had been meant for rocks but the idea of getting to have a cooler tank than Lucille had you clambering down the slope, pebbles slipping under your feet as you rushed to the shallows were Eddie had already reached, his form squatting next to water to watch the tiny fish darting around.
“We need to go back, please. I need you to take me back.” Your words were heavy, the saliva thick in your mouth and refusing to go down when you tried to swallow, his droopy eyelids making it catch painfully in your throat. “You promised me you’d catch the fish.”
“Next time for sure, I’ll get them next time. They were just too far out this time.” The little fish had scattered the moment Eddie had tried to scoop them up, his red bucket coming up short and holding nothing but dirty water and floating debri.
“They were not, you just scared them off.” You rubbed your arm across your face to wipe away the sweat that was making its path down your face, the hot summer sun searing directly overhead and ruining the good mood you had had walking into the quarry.
“You try it then.” Drops of stale water splattered across the front of your dress when the small pail was thrust into your arms, empty of everything but a challenge and your souring mood.

“You’re a lot faster than you used to be, I know you’ll get them this time.” The air was humid, clinging to your skin and warming you at a rate that had you itching to claw your way back to the trailer; it was sticky and completely wrong for the early spring weather that normally had you shaking in your boots. The sweat and grime and streaks of crimson compounded with the muggy weather made your nerves stand on end, Eddie’s hand was slick in your own, holding tight but slipping when his strength started to wane.

“Fine, I will.” The gravel made your turn swift, your body turning with a smooth flourish that was followed by quick and heavy steps as you made your back down the slope of the quarry, red plastic rattling as you pushed ahead of Eddie with a determination to prove yourself and a drive to get home where a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was sitting in the icebox with a cold juice for you.
Eddie hurried behind you, a checkered grin on his face and complete confidence that if he couldn’t get the fish, that had absolutely been to far out when he’d gone down, that you would be able to, even with the heat getting to you, you had to be one of the most determined people he had ever met and if you couldn’t do he knew there was no one who could.

“Eddie, Eddie come on.” Dustin’s hand slid from your shoulder to cup both your hands, his voice cracking in a tone of despair you’d only ever heard described in the tense scenes of your books or dramatic moments of Eddie’s DND campaigns. Until now you’d forgotten he had been with you both, but the anguish he spoke with had your vision blurring the muted grays and flashes of red into indistinguishable streaks of misery.
“You always were a crybaby.” His features crinkled, etching his face in scores of red lines that read only in warmest feelings of fondness. A smile that reached his eyes, and even your own blurry ones, and shined in a place that had never known a sun.

You had started falling before you had even reached the shore line, shoes slipping on the loose pebbles in your haste and sending you tumbling the remaining several feet where you skidded to a stop in the damp dirt that rested near the shallows. Normally the embarrassment alone would have been enough to have you bursting into tears but the welling droplets were brought out as a pain flared in your knee, the skin bright with irritation and little droplets of blood beading up from the impact.
Eddie’s laugh died before it was able to bubble up, his concern for you propelling him to your side in record time where he shivered at the sight of your knee, his stomach dropping when you held onto him and cried about how you’d scraped your knee.

“Do you remember what I said when you scraped your knee on that one day?” His words were slower, like his tongue was weighing heavily in his mouth and each enunciation was a struggle, an immense effort to form.

“It’s not..It’s not so bad.” The bleeding had never formed a steady flow and had already stopped but you were still inconsolable, fat tears racing down your face as you clung to your friend for comfort. It made Eddie a little green to see but he patted your back and tried to think about what his Uncle Wayne had said when he’d fallen learning to ride his bike and skinned both his knees and his right elbow.
“It’s not gonna hurt like this forever y’know.” By time Wayne had gotten him cleaned up and he’d had a fudge pop in his hand the pain had already been gone from his mind. “The sting only lasts for a bit, I promise.”
“Yeah?” Your nose was running now and there was a dull throb but the promise from Eddie made it seem just a little less intense.
“Yeah.”

“You had said it’ll sting for a while.” Eddie’s hand was still in your own but only you were holding on now, his fingers were limply curled around your clenched fists, not strong enough to return your grip nor to pull them away so he could wipe the tears that was mingling with the blood and dirt caked on your face. Dustin’s calls of Eddie’s name were now muted to you, the world around you falling to the background as your vision clears enough to see his own face was wet from crying.
“But it’s not gonna hurt like this forever.”
“Do you promise?”
“Yeah.��

Allergies: Rise! Donnie x Reader
Oops, I think I dropped this. Was a request.

Donatello was confused. He knew in his mind that there should be a simple answer, but he couldn't find one. The internet wasn’t helping him, nor were any of Leo’s medical books, and Donnie was starting to get worried. But most of all, he was confused, and Donnie hated being confused. Especially about such a seemingly simple question. Why did he seem to stop functioning whenever Y/n came near him?
Donnie has known Y/n for a couple years now, and they’ve slowly secured their spot in his heart as his best friend. He knows for a fact he’s never felt so weird around them before, he would have avoided you otherwise. Which is what he’s doing now. He could hear their laughter ringing through the lair, obviously finding something one of his brothers said or did funny, and it made him feel weird. A burning sensation seemed to settle in his chest, and Donnie had to remind himself to unclench his jaw. He could tell he was jealous, that was a feeling he was quite familiar with, but he wasn’t too sure of what he was jealous about.
Definitely not of you. He hides away in his lab because he already spends too much time with them. Using the same logic, he shouldn’t be jealous of his brothers either. After all, they spent the majority of their time with him, and probably would be hanging out with him right now, if not for the fact that he sent Y/n away at the door when they first arrived 4 hours ago. Was it mean? Probably. However, it was necessary as it is quite hard for Donnie to work when just looking at them made his stomach tie up in knots and keep his brain from properly functioning.
So jealousy is most definitely one of the emotions he’s feeling right now. Another was frustration, specifically at the fact that he can’t seem to find out what is wrong with him. that was another one Donnie could easily slap a label on. The third emotion however? The third is the mystery emotion, the one that he seems to only feel every time Donnie sees or thinks of Y/n.
Donnie gets knocked off his train of thought when someone busts through his lab's doors. Donnie looks over and groans at the sight of his blue-coded brother. Leonardo sports an obnoxious grin on his face as he waltzes up to where Donnie’s sitting. Donnie turns in his chair, his back to Leo. As much as he hated to admit it, he was still a bit jealous that his brother was hanging out with you.
“Soooooo….” his brother starts, leaning down on the backrest of Donnie’s chair, “why are you avoiding them?”
Ah, getting straight to the point then. How unlike Leo, this must be serious for him. Donnie freezes for a second, wondering how Leonardo figured it out, but quickly regains his composure.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about ‘Nardo.” Ah yes, lying. What a great way to start.
“Oh come on! You don’t really expect me to believe that, do you” Leo exclaims as he throws his hands in the air. Donnie sighs and turns his chair around so he’s facing his brother.
“You should believe it, it’s the truth! I have no idea what you're talking about. The only person I ever try to avoid is you, but that never works out, otherwise you’d be somewhere else, and I'd be left in peace.” Donnie says, glaring up at his brother. Did he just spit out a bunch of lies? Yes. Did he care? no.
Leo rolls his eyes at him, looking around for a place to sit so he could properly scold his self-proclaimed twin. Leo takes great care in exaggerating his movements as he brushes a bunch of Donnie papers and stationary out of the way, making Donnie twitch in anger. As much as he would love to strangle his brother, Donnie knew Splinter would be disappointed if he did.
Leo dons a smug grin as he sits on the desk, swinging his legs back and forth as he leans back.
“As much as your words wound me hermano, I still don’t believe you. You, my good sir, are avoiding Y/n-”
“I am not! How dare you even insinuate that! They’re my best friend, why would I ever avoid them!” Donnie says, more lies tumbling out of his mouth as he tries to save his precious ego. He knows he’s been caught, but he wonders why Leo cares so much as to confront him.
“Don’t interrupt me, especially when we both know I’m right. You’re avoiding Y/n, and it’s making them upset-”
“They’re upset?” Donnie interrupts again, his voice quieter now. Donnie feels sick now. He hadn’t meant to make them feel upset. He just wanted to fix himself so he could hang out with you normally again. He never wanted to hurt you. Maybe if he just asked for your help, you’d know what was going on? Leo looked at his brother, noting his downcast eyes and the way he paled at the revelation of Y/n’s inner turmoil at Donnie’s avoidance.
“Well if you’d quit interrupting me, I'd explain. After you sent them away, very rudely I might add, they came over to play some video games with me and Mikey. They told us how you told them to buzz off, and asked us if you were mad at them. Gosh Donnie, you made one of the only humans who likes us think you hate them. I came here as soon as they left!” Leo took a deep breath before continuing, calming himself down a bit.
“So yeah, I wanna know. Why are you being such a jerk and avoiding Y/n.” Leo’s eyes bore into Donnie’s at the question, and Donnie genuinely wonders for a second if he manifested the ability to read minds along with his teleportation.
Donnie takes a deep breath at his brother's words, his eyes looking anywhere but Leo’s. He leans back in his chair, trying to figure out the best way to explain to his brother the problem he's recently been plagued with.
“I think I’m allergic to Y/n” Donnie mutters finally. After hearing nothing in reply, he peaks up at his brother, only to be met with a completely dumbfounded expression gracing the slider's face.
“You think you’re WHAT? Wha-? how did you-? Why did you come to that conclusion!?” Leo sputters out in utter shock, not believing what he heard. Donnie’s face hardens as he scowls
“Oh please, you’re not the one who has to deal with brain malfunctions every time they come near you! I can barely say a word to them anymore without looking like a complete idiot! Plus my body temperature rises, my mouth dries up, and my chest starts to feel tight! I can’t live like this!” Donnie’s voice starts to rise as he speaks, his breathing becoming more heavy and ragged, his throat starting to close up as he gets more and more heated. What Donnie wasn’t expecting to hear in reply to his almost breakdown was laughter. Donatello’s face morphs into one of offense and distaste, his eyes growing cold as he looks at his laughing brother with a scowl.
Donnie can feel his muscles tightening, and he vaguely notices his now white knuckles as he clenches his hand into a fist. It was taking just about everything in him to not punch his brother right then and there.
“Get out.” Donnie’s voice was quiet, but firm. His jaw tensing as he crosses his arms, no longer in the mood to talk to his brother about his problems. He can figure this out on his own, he always does. If worse comes to worse, he can always ask April.
Leo calms down his laughter at that, smiley dopily at his brother, his eyes clouded with confusion.
“What?” Leo still holds a smile on his face, although it has definitely shrunk. He tilts his head a little, trying to study the softshell’s steely face.
“I said, get out. I don’t want to talk to someone who’s just going to laugh at my problems Leonardo. Honestly, I really didn't want to talk to you in the first place.” Donnie stares at his brother impassively. Leo’s smile fully drops now, understanding how his actions just closed his brother off even more.
“I’m sorry I-”
“Are you not listening to me! I said GET OUT!” His voice being strangled by the evident hurt in his heart. Donnie sends one last glare to his brother before spinning his chair around and pulling his chest firmly to his desk, caging himself in to hide his shaking body from Leo.
Leo’s gapes at his brother, mouth opening and closing as he tries to find the right words to say. Leo sighs, his hand running over his face. He didn’t mean to laugh, he didn’t, but it was just too absurd. I mean, Donnie not knowing what a crush was? Really? The only thing Leo really could do was laugh.
“I, uhm, I’m sorry. It caught me off guard.” Leo glanced at the chair his brother was residing in, the unbearing silence seemed to be an invitation to continue. “I mean, it was just so unbelievable to me that I didn’t know what to do. You’re the smart guy, the one who knows everything, so I kinda just assumed you were kidding.”
Leo notes his brother's continued stillness, and wonders if he can even hear him.
“You have a crush Donnie. You’re not allergic to Y/n, you just, y’know, like them.”
Oh.
Oh.
Donnie swivels his chair so he wasn’t facing Leo, but wasn’t completely blocking him off anymore either. His mind races with scenarios, trying to figure out if his brother's words hold some truth. He’s wrong, right? Donnie can’t have a crush on Y/n, their his best friend! It’d ruin your whole vibe together! Right? Donatello can’t deny that it did make sense, his whole “sickness” towards them matched a lot of the symptoms a crush causes. He just can’t believe he never noticed it.
Donnie notices his brother's tense posture, watching as he fiddles with his fingers and picks at his cuticles. Donnie stands up and starts to walk over to him, Leo’s eyes snapping up to watch him. Leo’s eyes dart back and forth between Donnie and the door, and Donnie could tell he wanted to make a run for it. Leo gave Donnie a nervous smile, putting his hand on the back of his neck.
“I really thought you were joking, sorry.” Leo mumbles, wincing slightly at his brother's stoic expression. Donnie sighs, and leans against the desk Leo’s sitting on.
“No, you’re fine. I would’ve laughed at you too.”
The turtle twins both just bask in awkward silence for a bit, neither wanting to break it in case the tension they can both feel so heavily snaps.
“Soooo, we can both agree that you’re not allergic to Y/n now, right?” Leo glances over at Donnie, who’s now looking back at him with a very annoyed expression. Donnie blows out a huff of air before nodding his head.
“Yeah, definitely not allergic.”

Let's (re)Read the Hobbit! Chapters 3 & 4

Welcome back to my reread. When we last left Bilbo, Gandalf, and the dwarves, they’d nearly all gotten themselves killed by mindlessly walking one-by-one into an ambush. As this time we’ll be covering two chapters (#3, “A Short Rest”, being rather short), we’ll be taking a good look at how they perform under wildly different circumstances: being ambushed in a slightly more forgivable way! But first, Elrond! As always, expect casual spoilers.
They camped under the stars, and their horses had more to eat than they had; for there was plenty of grass, but there was not much in their bags, even with what they had got from the trolls.
Again, I really want to point out how nice it is that concerns about food are a significant matter throughout the journey instead of them just running out whenever it’s convenient. It’s a good detail and there’s several major journeys I can think of in other major fantasy stories where I do wonder why they never seem to worry about rations or water.
“That is only the beginning of the Misty Mountains, and we have got to get through, or over, or under those somehow, before we can come into Wilderland beyond.”
Don’t try Caradhras though – he’s a very grumpy mountain.
“We must not miss the road, or we shall be done for,” [Gandalf] said.
Again, by all rights this should not be difficult. The Great East Road is seldom used at this point but it’s survived for thousands of years and you should be on it! That said, the descriptions of the terrain as they approach the mountains are quite lovely and remind me a good deal of home. Tolkien had a great way of describing wilderness.
Altogether it was a very slow business following the track, even guided by Gandalf, who seemed to know his way about pretty well.
As always, the mistake is assuming that Gandalf is actually trying to be helpful or that he knows what he’s doing. Dude probably has to retrace his exact steps from the very first time he went to Rivendell, which involved sixteen false starts.
(More charitably, it’s probably a favor to Elrond to keep visitors too confused to know how to find Rivendell again on their own.)

Wow Tolkien that’s very rude. Even without this line though, I think this song is probably my least favorite of the ones in this book? We’ll see depending on what else is there. (Also spoiler alert my favorite is “Fifteen birds in five fir-trees” and you owe it to yourself to listen to the Rankin/Bass cartoon’s version every day.)
He loved elves, though he seldom met them; but he was a little frightened of them too.
I suppose the elves sometimes still follow the Great East Road, which definitely exists despite Thorin and Gandalf’s difficulty in finding it, from the Grey Havens to Rivendell’s vicinity and back? This is too early for them to be sailing off I’d think. Then again, it’s only about sixty years until the exodus really takes off so maybe they already are? When did they start anyway? Has it been going on the whole time since the end of the second age?
Also [Bilbo] would have liked to have a few private words with these people that seemed to know his names and all about him, although he had never seen them before.
Gandalf spent half the time meeting with the Rivendell crew last chapter telling them all sorts of exciting hobbit facts. Unlike the dwarf version, all of them were true. They were also horribly invasive to Bilbo’s privacy.
“Don’t dip your beard in the foam, father!” they cried to Thorin, who was bent almost on to his hands and knees.
Is that just to guide the pony? Doesn’t seem like the pose you’d take but what do I know? It’s certainly not like there’s any vertical obstruction over the river or the ponies couldn’t cross at all.
“Hush, hush! Good People! and good night!” said Gandalf, who came last.
“Sing any songs about me and I’ll turn you all into toads!”
The master of the house was an elf-friend—one of those people whose fathers came into the strange stories before the beginning of History, the wars of the evil goblins and the elves and the first men in the North.
Not quite before the beginning of History in Elrond’s dad’s case – Eärendil was born 503 years into History proper, assuming it starts at the dawn of the First Age. Dude was something of a badass too, and apparently the first character Tolkien came up with for the Legendarium, which explains why Bilbo will later write a song about him. But that’s not until the sequel!
They were made in Gondolin for the Goblin-wars. They must have come from a dragon’s hoard or goblin plunder, for dragons and goblins destroyed that city many ages ago.
Here is stuff that just outright ties into the Legendarium perfectly. Fun fact for those unaware: these swords are older than Elrond and older than his dad too, since Gondolin fell when he was seven. And yet despite being multiple thousands of years old, they still work perfectly (it probably helps that they were probably held by the dwarves for awhile according to Elrond’s other guesses). Elf swords are hella awesome. Troll-made swords probably work like the Giant’s Knife of Legend of Zelda and break after two swings.
...he grieved to remember the ruin of the town of Dale and its merry bells, and the burned banks of the bright River Running.
Elves really hate change, and that’s not absent in this book. Really Elrond may be one of the shared elements of The Hobbit and its sequel that fits perfectly in both.
“What do they say?” asked Gandalf and Thorin together, a bit vexed perhaps that even Elrond should have found this out first, though really there had not been a chance before, and there would not have been another until goodness knows when.
Gandalf had the map for the better part of a century and thus actually had many chances to notice the moon runes (which are another cool bit of dwarf magic that needs more love). Elrond is probably on his shit list now for showing him up, and Gandalf will be regaling him with new “Hobbit Facts” that won’t pay off until Bilbo is 111.
Also, he’s going to give Aragorn a whole stash of elf porn that belonged to his great-grandfather, and a spyglass so he can see through Arwen’s window when she’s changing.
“The first day of the dwarves’ New Year,” said Thorin, “is as all should know the first day of the last moon of Autumn on the threshold of Winter. We still call it Durin’s Day when the last moon of Autumn and the sun are in the sky together. But this will not help us much, I fear, for it passes our skill in these days to guess when such a time will come again.”
Well Thorin, I’m pretty sure you can at least guess the one day a year that a Durin’s Day might happen, so you’ve got that going for you. I also have to question why it’s beyond Elrond or Gandalf’s skill to make such a guess – they surely have the capacity and if the dwarves needed to wait five years it would be nice to let them know. But Gandalf never shares facts unless they’re to fuck with hobbits and Elrond saw him slip the Playelf to young Aragorn under the table and doesn’t want any more trouble, so the group is doomed to ignorance.
Anyway, with the knowledge of the moon runes and the way to sneak into the mountain established, it’s time for the dwarves to get back on the road and see if they can actually get there, which is how we transition into chapter four, “Over Hill and Under Hill” (but not that Underhill).
The dwarves and the hobbit, helped by the wise advice of Elrond and the knowledge and memory of Gandalf, took the right road to the right pass.
Based on the evidence thus far, we can assume it’s mostly Elrond here. Once again, the description of the mountains is lovely – one wonders if the boulders that end up nearly falling on them are the early games of the storm-giants.
They had thought of coming to the secret door in the Lonely Mountain, perhaps that very next last moon of Autumn—“and perhaps it will be Durin’s Day” they had said. Only Gandalf had shaken his head and said nothing. Dwarves had not passed that way for many years, but Gandalf had, and he knew how evil and danger had grown and thriven in the Wild, since the dragons had driven men from the lands, and the goblins had spread in secret after the battle of the Mines of Moria.
See? Gandalf literally has good reason to be concerned – and good reason to know it will be Durin’s Day – and he shares nothing with the party, because that would be helpful. .Literally everything that happens after this is his fault, and while it does technically save the world, the fate of the horses lies on him. The horses deserved better!
When he peeped out in the lightning-flashes, he saw that across the valley the stone-giants were out, and were hurling rocks at one another for a game, and catching them, and tossing them down into the darkness where they smashed among the trees far below, or splintered into little bits with a bang.
The storm-giants are another thing that actually feels more like something out of a fairy tale than part of the Legendarium – I don’t know if they really come up again anywhere else – but props to Jackson for making them feel like an organic part of the story anyway. There is very little to recommend the film trilogy but I will give credit where it’s due, which comes out to this bit, Bilbo’s casting, Thorin’s casting, and surprisingly, Bofur’s whole aesthetic. We need more dwarves in comfy hats, it’s very sexy of them.

You’d think hobbits would be good at finding subterranean shelter, all things considered. And it’s cruel to dunk on him when he’s still a top 3 member of the party whose only real competitors are Thorin (good at fights but horrible at strategy) and Gandalf (who seems to delight in the suffering of the party giving him chances to show off).
“Have you thoroughly explored it?” said the wizard, who knew that caves up in the mountains were seldom unoccupied. “Yes, yes!” [Fili and Kili] said, though everybody knew they could not have been long about it; they had come back too quick.
It’s really surprising that these two didn’t die sooner. Note again that even Bilbo can see through their crap and that Gandalf provides only the smallest crumbs of help.
But the wizard was taking no risks. He lit up his wand—as he did that day in Bilbo’s dining-room that seemed so long ago, if you remember—, and by its light they explored the cave from end to end.
“There’s clearly a secret passage here, but it’s probably nothing,” Gandalf whispered, observing that he’d technically said it aloud but in a tone too low for any of the party to actually hear.
…then they made their blankets comfortable, got out their pipes and blew smoke rings, which Gandalf turned into different colours and set dancing up by the roof to amuse them. They talked and talked, and forgot about the storm, and discussed what each would do with his share of the treasure (when they got it, which at the moment did not seem so impossible); and so they dropped off to sleep one by one. And that was the last time that they used the ponies, packages, baggages, tools and paraphernalia that they had brought with them.
It’s round two of the mini-game! Hope you’ve been practicing!
Also, it’s a great turn-around there with the impending horror of the horse’s fate completely undercutting the semi-coziness of the cave. Frankly until all this shit happened it seemed even nicer than Rivendell just because there weren’t any assholes singing mocking songs.
Then he dreamed that the floor of the cave was giving way, and he was slipping—beginning to fall down, down, goodness knows where to.
Yeah, I have dreams like this all the time when I’m falling asleep. Shit sucks even when it’s not actual monsters coming to kill you and all of your friends.
Out jumped the goblins, big goblins, great ugly-looking goblins, lots of goblins, before you could say rocks and blocks. There were six to each dwarf, at least, and two even for Bilbo; and they were all grabbed and carried through the crack, before you could say tinder and flint. But not Gandalf. Bilbo’s yell had done that much good. It had wakened him up wide in a splintered second, and when goblins came to grab him, there was a terrific flash like lightning in the cave, a smell like gunpowder, and several of them fell dead.
Wizards are OP. I can’t give the dwarves too much shit for getting captured this time because they were so badly outnumbered, but I have to point out that if they’d bothered to keep a watch at least some of this damage could have been avoided. Shame Gandalf didn’t mention that there was shit to be looking out for.
Also I’m not gonna quote the goblin song in part or in full but I will note that it’s still better than the shit the elves sang at the crew as they arrived. Fucking jerkass elves.
I am afraid that was the last they ever saw of those excellent little ponies, including a jolly sturdy little white fellow that Elrond had lent to Gandalf, since his horse was not suitable for the mountain-paths.
This is of course just another way that Gandalf was sure to punish Elrond for showing him up. RIP horses. You were much, much smarter than the guys who marched you to your deaths.
There in the shadows on a large flat stone sat a tremendous goblin with a huge head, and armed goblins were standing round him carrying the axes and the bent swords that they use.
You know how I gave Jackson credit for the stone-giants? Time to give him some shit: it was way better of Tolkien not to make the Great Goblin a weirdly diseased mutant just for extra gross factor. They’re unpleasant enough.
Sadly, the goblins are a lot less distinctly characterized than the three trolls, with the Great Goblin standing out mostly because he gets dialogue tags and all of them being unpleasant. Guess you can’t win them all.
It is not unlikely that they invented some of the machines that have since troubled the world, especially the ingenious devices for killing large numbers of people at once, for wheels and engines and explosions always delighted them, and also not working with their own hands more than they could help; but in those days and those wild parts they had not advanced (as it is called) so far.
Thus begins the theme of industry vs. pastoralism. Tolkien was quite a romantic at heart, in no small part because adopting such attitudes was one of the best ways to handle the trauma of WWI. Thus the bad guys are always associated with innovation, particularly automation and warfare.
“Up to no good, I’ll warrant! Spying on the private business of my people, I guess! Thieves, I shouldn’t be surprised to learn! Murderers and friends of Elves, not unlikely! Come! What have you got to say?”
Three out of four is pretty good, though technically they weren’t planning on burgling from him specifically.
“He is a liar, O truly tremendous one!” said one of the drivers. “Several of our people were struck by lightning in the cave, when we invited these creatures to come below; and they are as dead as stones.”

Just at that moment all the lights in the cavern went out, and the great fire went off poof! into a tower of blue glowing smoke, right up to the roof, that scattered piercing white sparks all among the goblins.
Okay at least this is useful. Thanks, Gandalf! He’s even considerate enough to keep the party from being affected by this, or maybe the spell just automatically comes with friendly fire suppression. Probably the latter.
“Half a minute!” said Dori, who was at the back next to Bilbo, and a decent fellow. He made the hobbit scramble on his shoulders as best he could with his tied hands, and then off they all went at a run, with a clink-clink of chains, and many a stumble, since they had no hands to steady themselves with.
Dori for best dwarf! Sorry Balin.
This sword’s name was Glamdring the Foe-hammer, if you remember. The goblins just called it Beater, and hated it worse than Biter if possible. Orcrist, too, had been saved; for Gandalf had brought it along as well, snatching it from one of the terrified guards. Gandalf thought of most things; and though he could not do everything, he could do a great deal for friends in a tight corner.
And only when they’re in a tight corner, unfortunately.
…they took it in turn to carry him on their backs.
Ah well, Balin probably participated in this so he’s back in first. Fili and Kili are at the bottom for having so utterly fucked things up. Thorin is up there for being competent, and everyone else is an amorphous mass, just as they are in the text.
“Why, O why did I ever bring a wretched little hobbit on a treasure hunt!” said poor Bombur, who was fat, and staggered along with the sweat dripping down his nose in his heat and terror.
Poor Bombur, all that will ever be said about him in the books is how fat he is. His cartoon adaptation is a little more dignified (but dies), and the live action films make his immensity even more prominent.
Quite suddenly Dori, now at the back again carrying Bilbo, was grabbed from behind in the dark. He shouted and fell; and the hobbit rolled off his shoulders into the blackness, bumped his head on hard rock, and remembered nothing more.
Dori is now also close to the bottom, having lost Bilbo so terribly. Thus ends chapter four, with the party being split and losing someone who is currently dead weight but who is usually a lot more useful than even the narrative gives him credit for.
Next time: the chapter that was so thoroughly retconned you’d think it was a Homestuck panel!

How you met: Getting lost in Mexico was not your idea of fun. You had an "Eat, Pray, Love" moment after college and decided to travel the world to gain inspiration for your book. Armed with various travel guides and phrasebooks, you started your journey in the heart of Mexico. However, somewhere along the way you had gotten lost and were struggling to find your hotel. As you tried to navigate the foreign street signs, a pair of Mexican Special Forces soldiers. Although that's what their patches displayed, you were having a moment of bisexual panic as they both looked like they walked off a modeling shoot. "¿Estás perdida, niña?" the woman flirted and you blushed in response. "Yes," you began to say in English and stopped yourself short as you palmed through your book of Spanish translations. As you panicked, the man responded, "Don't worry we also speak English, where are you trying to go?" "My hotel, it's on this street," you said and pointed to the location on your phone. "We can take you, you're in good hands with the Special Forces," he said and he began to lead the way. Throughout your walk, they gave you some friendly tips about where to go and how not to get lost again. They also advised you what parts of town to avoid. Finally, you reached your destination as you walked in, Alejandro stopped you. "Here's mine and Valeria's number if you ever need help" he said and gave you a wink. Valeria rolled her eyes in response and they continued on what you assumed was their evening patrol.
A peek into your relationship: Despite seeing both of them in less professional context, your heart always lay with Alejandro as Valeria had a sinister and cynical side to her. You spent occasional vacations with Alejandro but they grew less frequent as he mentioned a joint mission with some international help. This time, you had spent a few weeks with not so much as a text and were worried. You sat in your house checking your phone one morning when the doorbell rang. You weren't anticipating anyone and after years of dating Alejandro, he had taught you to be cautious. You armed yourself with a large textbook as you opened the door to see your boyfriend on the other side with a large bouquet of roses. "Mi cariño, are you going to hit me with that?" he laughed as you dropped the book and hugged him tight. "You had me so worried, Ale," you said in his chest. He held you into his chest as you let your worry melt. "I'm truly sorry, I just wanted to keep you safe," he said and gently led you back into the living room. You placed the roses on the table and cuddled up to him, hoping to provide him comfort after those long weeks prior.

Do you think Big is the mole the Major Family is worried about? Maybe that he’s a double agent for Vegas and the whole Minor family? I really liked his character but I started suspecting him a couple episodes in and I really want to be wrong. I do think he’s in love with Kinn and since he was the closest to him out of all of the bodyguards, and it seemed Kinn and his father both trusted him, he’d be one of the best people to give personal details to Vegas and the minor family while they’re orchestrating their little coup.
Also, if he IS betraying them I wonder why. Was he a plant from the start? Was it because he’s in love with Kinn and jealous so he turned on him? If that is the case, is he dangerous to Kinn and Porsche as he watches them get closer and closer to each other? As he watches Porsche get the love and devotion he always craved from Kinn? When he probably felt used and discarded after he was injured and passed around like he didn’t matter, and in contrast watched Porsche reject everything yet still be welcomed with open arms by not only Kinn, but his father as well? I also suspect that Kinn wasn’t just paranoid about Tawan being a double agent and I think the Minor family has been setting this up from the inside for a while by playing the long game. I can’t wait to watch it unfold.
Then again I could be completely wrong about all of this so I’m curious on what you think. Don’t apologize for rambling or ranting either. I like long detailed replies so gimme all of your theories.
Honestly... I don't think Big is the mole. I could obviously be wrong but no I've never really been behind that theory. And I could totally be wrong about him having a major crush on Kinn too. I know nothing from the book (as I prefer) so it's fully just me speculating. His behaviour could definitely just be fan worship behaviour. But I feel like the extra scenes tucked into the show - him trying to get one-over on Porsche multiple times, Porsche baiting him with time spent with Kinn, and then his woeful feelings of blame in talking to Chan, all just suggests they do have some kind of plan for him. And you're right... he's definitely in a good position to be the mole. But I'm with you... if that's the case, why? I could see him being a mole after finding out about Kinn and Porsche due to his anger or feelings of rejection. But right now? It doesn't track for me. You laid out some possibilities that did make me pause for a moment. I suppose there is a way they could go about justifying a betrayal by him... but they’ve also very much gone heavy on his seeming devotion to Kinn. So again, without feeling outright betrayed by Kinn (he has reason to feel that way but they haven’t shown us him feeling that way) I don’t know how this would track. So if he turns out to be the mole, I'll be interested to see how it goes down.
Also I should say that even though I said Big annoys me, I have a strange sort of affection for him and Ken too. Because honestly I would hate Porsche if I was them too 😂. Like here is this cocky, disrespectful, inexperienced guy who swoops in and immediately has the bosses favour. I would be so pissed if I was them. So the way I had sort of seen things is that it was going to go the route and Big, Ken, and Porsche having to come together to kick some ass in the end and then having a tentative sort of understanding (though they’d never be besties). But if Big does cause some drama as I am sort of expecting, we might see more animosity than that sort of situation allows. 
100% agree about the minor family playing a long game. I think Tawan did (and will continue to?) play a part in that. After the latest ep I sent a message to a friend saying 'So, Tawan was a mole? That's what's being set up here?' because that seemed obvious to me. But after seeing fan speculation and more convo surrounding Tawan cheating with Vegas... I have no idea now. I just never expected that situation to be as simple as Tawan coming in to cause relationship drama and the back story being that he cheated on Kinn. That just feels... too simple. Vegas is pretty good at preying on Kinn’s insecurities and I don’t think that’s a new thing. So in whatever capacity, no doubt Vegas played a key role in Kinn’s past pain (and I expect what will come to be his future pain). One thing I’m excited about is that I really am not sure what direction things will go. I have a bad habit of guessing key plot points in movies and shows and ruining the surprise for myself. But while I have general thoughts and feelings about the direction things might take in Kinnporsche... I honestly don’t feel sure of any of them. That’s refreshing! I feel like when more is revealed a lot of tiny details will become more significant which is just really good storytelling. I’m excited too!

The house was empty when he came home today, to his strange observation.
Xander spent the past few weeks in a club for a sport he had participated in, but the season ended recently and he booked the quickest flight home. She found her heart rate growing with each hour she gets closer. It’s been a while since she had gotten the time to even call you because the team was always asking for her to come to practice day and night (it was rough to say the least)
“I miss you, sunshine.”
“I miss you too.” The timezones were far apart, setting you two to call at horrendous times, but he loved your voice at each and every hour; from the energetic tone of the noon, to the distressed and exhausted rasp of the night. His poor angel, always working so hard and doing so well.
However, his excitement was quick to turn into stitched brows and echoes of a higher voice. “Sunshine?” He called out, setting down the bags. Usually, you were at the door or on the couch waiting for him, but he found no one.
Maybe you were just tired. Surely that’s all.
Xander looked in the kitchen where she remembered the warm mornings of kissing your neck while you made breakfast, hands on your hips and pulling you close, and the warm breath asking you of the night’s quality; but all he found was an eerie, silent kitchen with a cold stove.
She moved to the living room where you would always lay on top of him and binge another show or movie, but you would fall asleep most of the time (she didint mind. She loved it actually) The couch was where he would pull you into his arms after a long day at school, holding you tight and hearing you complain. He knew it was a lot, so he often offered to cook dinner and give you a massage to relieve all that stress (even if it was just a little) But the fabric was cold, and your presence was lacking.
He started getting worried. Nicknames turning into standard ones. “Sol?” He knocked the bedroom door that was closed, “I’m home.” Xander swallowed the croak in his throat. It must've been a big joke, right? The stress was building up, but he couldn't quit here. You were just messing around with him, playing a prank for him being away.
Right?
“I’m coming in.” Their voice was soft as the knob twisted, but only cold air greeted them. He noticed certain things, horrible things to be specific; your charger was gone, the textbooks piling on the floor disappeared, and the closest. He shoved it open. Gone. Majority of the clothes at least.
“Sol,” he called out, “this isnt funny, sunshine, please.”
His heart remained high, but it was too high. Xander continued to search around, murmuring reassurement to himself. Running a hand through her hair, she huffed and went back out to the door. Even your shoes were gone.
Did something happen?
Xander took his phone and started to ring you, but after one, two, three….seven times, you never answered. She sent too many messages already.
“My plane landed!” “I’m home!!” “Sunshine? Where you are you?” “Are you busy with school? Let me know when you get home. I can cook for you :)” “Sol?” “Where are you? It’s been a while?” “Sol please I just want to know” “Is everything okay? I don’t need details, angel, just a word.” “You’re worrying me.” “Did I do something?” “Sunshine?” “Where did you go?” “Please?”
His fingers trembled at the last text of the singular word, too tired to write more. His heart was bubbling in his throat. Something went wrong.
Did we go wrong? Did I do something?
Xander ran a hand down his face, dragging the tears with his hand. They laughed to themself, an empty and breathless one. How long have you been gone? He sat down on the couch and stared out at the end, fingers playing with each other, and he waited. And waited. And waited.
His stomach was angry. It growled and rumbled as thunder does in the sky, but he stayed in the same spot. Waiting, like a dog at the door.
You’ll come back.
Xander knows his sunshine is busy.
They know you're hardworking.
He’ll take his time and come back, just as she does with her seasons.
. . . You’ll come back, right?

Update
So, I’m 20 now. It’s been a long two years of not knowing what I’m doing with my life. Right after highschool I started out working at CVS. I’ve been there for 2 years and I’ve got a good chunk of savings for the car I want to buy as soon as I learn how to drive. That is something I’ve been saying I need to do but I haven’t really worked on much because of anxiety about the idea of driving. At this point, I finally finished reading my drivers ed book I got from the SoS. I did the little 10 question test in the back of the book and got all of the questions correct, all I need to do is get a SoS appointment and take the test to get my TIP. The problem is is that I need someone to take me to that but everyone is busy all the time. I’m sure it doesn’t help having to take me back and forth to work. But it’s starting to get really old. And I just feel too old to not be driving. It’s really embarrassing but even my little brother (16) got his license before me. I’m trying not to be salty about it.
In the past two years I took two different semesters at two colleges and never stayed at either. I didn’t really like EMU and WCC was nice but I wanted to decide what I really wanted to do before I spent a bunch of money on it. I partially decided I wanted to do the construction manager program at WCC because one thing I always saw myself doing since I was a child was designing houses. I thought that would be a good start since I’m not smart enough or disciplined enough to get into architecture school. At least I would know how to build houses. But I’m still not sure. I just want to know how to drive and have a car before I go back at least.
The most positive advancement I’ve made was finding a guy. At some point I got so lonely that I got on hinge trying to look for a partner. I briefly talked to a couple guys. But one guy stood out and I immediately picked him. We have so much in common it’s like we’re the same person. I really like him (I think he likes me??). The problem is is that every time we’ve tried to make plans or meet up, they always fall through. At some point I was using so much of my energy to work on the relationship that I was driving myself crazy. So personally I’m taking a break from trying to advance things and leaving up to him or fate.
Right now our relationship is more like friends with the option to be in a relationship. We still occasionally flirt with each other or talk about sex stuff but at this moment it doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere. Which I’m not too upset about. I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time since I enjoy talking to him, although I was feeling a bit disappointed a while ago.
I just like him. I really hope he likes me too. It’s really hard online dating vs the real thing. I didn’t intend for it to be thing way but we live 165 miles away from each other and neither of us have a car at the moment. Whenever I would ask him what we are, he would say we shouldn’t define it until we meet, which I completely agree with, it’s just hard now even thinking about meeting since it’s been a whole year. And now we’ve got these romanticized versions of each other and our relationship, it would be hard not to be disappointed.
In the end, all I really want is someone to love me, listen to me, be able to share everything with each other, take care of each other, and have fun together. I just think we’re so similar that we’d be perfect together. I’m just secretly worried that he prefers a different type of girl (like maybe a more unrealistic type). I wouldn’t want him to feel like he’s “settling” for me (and then end up killing me or something).

Lately I feel extremely happy.
I think I’ve discovered which depression I have. It’s Persistent Depressive Disorder. It’s pretty much a lower grade lifelong depression unlike Major Depressive Disorder which is more severe but only lasts for a short amount of time but consistently. PDD is always there; lingering. Even when I’m not feeling depressed I always feel like any small thing can trigger it. One small thing can cause me to overthink, putting me into a depression. Usually, I’d be depressed for about 2 (sometimes 3) weeks out of the month or even every couple of days. This has been going on since I was 12 on and off (8 years) but I remember feeling the same way when I was a kid as well, I’m just not sure if can classify it the same. It’s super exhausting living with PDD, it feels like I can never catch a break and in the worst moments it makes me feel like I’ve never been happy in my entire life; which obviously isn’t true. On really bad days I don’t care about anything. I don’t care about making myself look nice, I don’t care what I eat, as long as I can get energy from it, I don’t care about talking to the people I like or doing the things I like to do. I just wake up and try to endure the day until it’s over with.
I’m pretty sure being depressed for that amount of time straight probably wrecks your body and kills you faster. I’m also pretty sure it’s maternally genetic in my family. That’s why I bought one of those 23&me health tests. It can tell me what percentage I’m likely to get a depressive disorder along with other percentages on my health and genetic diseases. I need to also see my doctor about my depression, I’ve talked to her about it before. Formally I’ve been diagnosed with seasonal depression, which it is true that my depression does get worse during the winter, but the PDD is the major factor.
But I just wanted to report that despite all the depression surges I’ve had recently, I’ve been feeling very happy for the past week. It feels like a weight has been lifted off of me and I can finally breathe. I know it’s temporary but I’m trying to enjoy it. Little things aren’t bothering me and I’m not overthinking. Usually when I am feeling temporarily happy I try to avoid anything that’s gonna me overthink. It sounds silly but some of the reasons I am so happy are because I did finish the drivers ed book. I have been stressing myself out about it for the past two years. I was worried that I would read the entire book and miss something extremely important and cause a crash or something. So that’s one weight off my shoulder. Another thing is I was able to get my grandpa to help me put up my new blinds and curtains for my room that I’ve been holding on to since Christmas. I asked my mom to get me them so I could try to make my room look nicer. It’s been stressing me out that they were taking up space in my room. I know it’s completely ridiculous, but I think it’s those two little things being erased from my to-do list that makes me feel so much relief. I’m trying to enjoy this moment so I’m even gonna stress the next things I have to do.
I also wanted to say, I quit self harming 2 years ago (nearly relapsed a few times) and it feels good to have healthier coping mechanisms. I feel more mature. Although I do still need to get treatment for depression, I’m not having any suicidal thoughts, self harm rarely crosses my mind. My coping mechanisms probably could be better. Right now to help me get through a depression, I will listen to music, ignore everything that upsets me, watch tv and movies just trying to keep myself entertained and distracted until it is over. I’ve lived through it so long now that it’s pretty much normal to me. It comes in waves and I almost find a comfort in it. It’s like when you’re sick and you’re trying to relax and let your body heal itself. Even with that, it’s still awful. That’s just the dark, bright-side of it. Hopefully still, I’d like to be able to feel as happy as I do now, all the time.
I just wanted to update this blog with some life updates. Originally, I made it during the pandemic when my depression was at an all-time low. I doubt anyone is ever going to read this, I just wanted to make it for myself. It was actually kind of shocking to see where I was at the last time I posted. So hopefully my next life update will be even better.

“Just skip it and stay here with me,” Jason offered as he leaned against the bathroom frame, shirtless and with his arms crossed.
He had been watching Y/N get ready for at least 15 minutes.
She was currently putting on blood red lipstick that went perfectly with her black winged eyeliner.
Jason wasn’t a big lipstick guy – mostly because it prevented him from kissing his girlfriend the way he wanted to. But he couldn’t deny that it looked incredibly sexy.
“I can’t. I promised Bruce,” Y/N explained as she looked at him through the mirror.
“There will always be other charity events,” he answered with a roll of his eyes.
But he’d had enough of keeping his distance and wrapped his arms around her from behind. He started peppering kisses on her shoulders since her dress was leaving the skin completely exposed and he just couldn’t help himself.
“You know,” she began, “you could always come with me.”
Jason stopped his kissing.
“Guess that’s a no?” Y/N sighed with a shy grin.

Y/N understood that Jason hated these events. To be honest, she might hate them just as much. But Bruce kept asking her and she tried to go when she could. Sometimes she needed breaks and her father understood that.
Jason ignored her question and his hands started roaming heatedly across her body.

“What? I didn’t do anything,” Jason laughed innocently.
“Not yet,” she spun around and pointed at him. “But you were going to!”

Then she brushed past him and walked into the giant walk-in closet.
Barely even glancing at all the shoes, she grabbed a pair that matched her dress.
“Can we order pizza or something when I get back? I’ll be starving.” Y/N asked mindlessly as she slipped the shoes on, using the wall to balance herself.
Jason didn’t even realize he was staring.
But how could he not?
The dress was simple. Just a little black dress. It was a charity event after all. But it fit Y/N like a glove, hugging her in all the right places.
Her heels were at least 4 inches, putting her eye level with Jason – if not a tiny bit taller. She would be above the majority of men at the event, except for probably a small handful.
“What?” Y/N asked self consciously. “Too tall?”
“No such fucking thing,” Jason quickly answered.
Y/N usually wasn’t self conscious about her height. She kind of had to get over that back in high school when she was taller than most of the boys in her grade.
But that didn’t mean she completely stopped having slip-ups. Slip-ups that involved questioning her heels or outfit.
Thankfully, Jason was quick to remedy such situations.
“You just look so beautiful,” Jason added as he stepped forward and grabbed her hips possessively.
Y/N kissed him. “Thank you.”
But she opened her mouth to give another warning.
“You’re gonna be late,” Jason spoke for her. “I know. I know.”
Y/N tried not to laugh at her boyfriends desperation as she grabbed her clutch.
“Remember: pizza!” Y/N called over her shoulder as she walked out the door.

Bruce and Damian were waiting for Y/N at the venue.
Dick and Tim skipped, going to these things less and less as they became fully grown men with lives of their own.
“Thank you for coming,” Bruce greeted as he kissed her on the cheek.
Y/N was about to turn her attention to Damian and give him a hug.
“What the hell is on your neck!?” The boy cried out before she could.
She blinked in surprise, completely unaware of what her half brother was talking about. Self-consciously, her hand went to the sides of her neck, not sure what she should be hiding.
“Can Todd not keep his hands to himself for 30 seconds?” Damian growled.
That’s when it clicked.
Y/N had a hickey on her neck.
“Damian, lower your voice,” Bruce warned his son.
Meanwhile, Y/N started feeling hot from embarrassment.
“Father, make him stop,” Damian whined.
To her surprise, Bruce cleared his throat uncomfortably. “Damian, Y/N is a grown woman in a relationship. She can do as she pleases.”
It was the right answer, but Y/N was still sweating from the embarrassment.
“If you’ll excuse me,” she quickly mumbled, before disappearing to the nearest bathroom.
But Y/N swore she heard Bruce continuing to scold Damian for his rudeness and for embarrassing her.
When she reached the bathroom, she lifted her head to see that she very much did have a hickey on her neck. It was perfectly hidden in the shadow of her jaw, which was why she hadn’t noticed it while getting ready. If she had, she would’ve put 5 layers of makeup on it to make sure her family didn’t notice.
Thankfully, she brought some cover up with her and quickly started going to work.
After 10 minutes, it was invisible and Y/N let out a sigh of relief.
She pulled out her cellphone, glaring at it as if were her boyfriend.
“You better start behaving. Damian and Bruce just found a hickey on my neck. I’m so fucking embarrassed,” Y/N texted to Jason.
“Who cares?”
Y/N rolled her eyes. Of course he’d answer with that.
“Call me old fashioned, but I’d prefer not remind my father and younger brother that I do in fact have a sex life.”
“A healthy, satisfied, and passionate sex life *,” Jason corrected.
Before she could respond, he texted again with, “Did you cover it up?”
“Obviously.”
“What a shame. Maybe it would’ve kept the spoiled rich boys away from you.”

Y/N sighed in relief when she took off her heels and then she collapsed on the couch, laying her head on Jason’s lap as he placed their order.
Without thinking, his free hand when to her head and started massaging it, hoping it would help with her migraine.
“Hmm,” she hummed with her eyes closed. “That feels better.”
“Order has been placed,” he confirmed.
“Thank you.”
“Arrives in 30 minutes.”

But they both knew Y/N was pretending to be annoyed by it – or against it. When in reality, she kind of loved how obsessed Jason was with the idea.
Just when Jason hiked Y/N's dress up and was tracing her legs, someone cleared their throat.
Jason squeezed his eyes shut in frustration and actually growled. Then he quickly lowered Y/N’s dress and tried to make her modest again.
Y/N covered her face and groaned. “Please, please, please tell me Bruce is not standing at the window right now.”
Jason smirked. “And Damian.”
Y/N pushed her boyfriend off of her and sat up to face them.
There stood Batman and Robin.
Tonight was just not her night.
“You have lipstick smeared all over you,” Damian pointed out to Jason smugly.
“I’d say one day you’d see the appeal, but I’m struggling to imagine anyone ever having that kind of interest in you,” Jason shot back.
“Jason!” Y/N scolded in a yell.
Then she quickly turned to Damian with a sympathetic look, “Dami, he didn’t mean that.”
“Yeah, I did,” Jason corrected. “What do you guys want?”
“Red Robin is missing,” Bruce stated darkly.
“So…go find him,” Jason replied.
“We need your help,” Bruce clarified.
Jason groaned and rubbed his face. “Fine. But we’re setting some fucking ground rules from now on. I’m sick of you guys invading our personal space. We have a door for a reason. Use it.”
Bruce just nodded.
Then he looked down at Damian and with a glare, got him to nod, too.
“I gotta change,” Jason told them, annoyance clear in his voice.
Y/N followed him into their bedroom, to give them a moment of privacy.
“You don’t have to be so rude,” Y/N sighed as she sat on the edge of their bed.
“They spent all night with you and now they have the balls to interrupt?” Jason shot back. “And I want my damn pizza.”
Y/N couldn’t help but laugh at him. “I promise I’ll save you some.”
Jason was in his full gear now, Red Hood helmet tucked under his arm.
He took in a deep breath, tension easing off of him as he saw how cute she was looking up from the bed at him. Her lipstick was half off her lips, but she still looked beautiful.
“Promise you’ll be careful,” her tone was nothing but serious.
“Don’t worry about me,” Jason dismissed as he leaned down at kissed her.

Jason went back to the living room where Bruce and Damian waited.

You’re refilling your mug when you hear it. Voices filter out from the kitchen, floating past the coffee station where you’re pouring yourself another drink and hanging in the open air of the hallway that leads back to the rest of the office. They’re familiar voices, too—voices that belong to the resident gossips of your workplace. Lottie’s pitchy, nasal tone melds with Hyejin’s higher one, their conversation interrupted every so often by an exaggerated exclamation or gasp from Sandra, the third and final member of their trio.
“Haven’t you heard? Carolyn’s divorce was finalized over the weekend, the poor thing.”
“I can’t even begin to imagine how she’s feeling. I mean, getting back into dating at her age? Goodness!”
“And now she’ll be all alone at the holiday party, too. How sad is that?”
“It’s tragic. Poor thing.”
Rolling your eyes, you grab a packet of sugar and tear it open, upending it over your mug and watching the crystalline granules fall into the dark liquid within. You know for a fact that Sandra and her husband can’t even stand to be in the same room for an extended period of time, considering how they’d spent most of last year’s holiday party talking to entirely different groups of people. You’d sat two tables away from them during dinner, and they hadn’t even made eye contact once. And as for Lottie and Hyejin, well, you’re certain that their relationships aren’t much better. All three of them are miserable people as far as you’re concerned, and you make a mental note to check in on Carolyn—a sweet woman in her thirties who always keeps chocolate bars in her purse—on your way back to your desk.
“Sheesh. Vultures, the lot of them. Don’t you think?”
You whirl at the sound of your manager’s voice. Kyunghee Jung is a dark-haired woman in her late fifties, and she laughs when she sees your startled expression, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “Easy! You’ll spill your coffee if you’re not careful.”
“I’ll probably have a heart attack first,” you reply, pressing a hand to your chest. “What was your job before this? Some kind of intelligence operative? Are you a super spy?”
Kyunghee laughs again and joins you at the counter. “Nothing even remotely as exciting as that,” she answers, plopping her mug down beside yours. It’s decorated with what looks like every color of the rainbow, a massive smiling sunflower taking up the majority of the surface, and the only remnant of the ceramic’s original color is on the very edge of the handle where there’s a lopsided little patch of white. The piece is clearly handmade, and a stark contrast to the simple mint green cup that houses your coffee. Looking at it, it’s impossible not to smile.
“I love that,” you remark, inclining your head at her mug. “Was it a present from one of your kids?”
“Hoseok,” she confirms, running a fingertip along the imperfect handle fondly. “I’ve told you about him before—he’s right around your age.”
You chuckle. “Right, I remember. That’s why he’s the perfect match for me, right?”
“Come now, there’s more to it than that,” Kyunghee defends, waving a hand. “But yes, to answer your question. He gave it to me as a birthday present when he was eight.”
“Well, you never told me he was an artist,” you tease. “Does he have an Etsy? Can I buy one of these off him? Does he do custom orders, maybe?”
Normally, your manager is more than happy to play along with your jokes, but today Kyunghee fixes you with an uncharacteristically serious look. “Why don’t you ask him yourself?” she asks. “He’s coming to the holiday party, after all. I figured you could finally meet.”
You blink. Kyunghee has been making offhand remarks about how well you would get on with her son, Hoseok, for over a year now, but you’ve never even come close to broaching the topic of meeting him. You don’t even know anything about the man beyond the fact that his name is Hoseok and that he works somewhere downtown. He also favors tall socks and yellow suspenders if the framed photograph on Kyunghee’s desk is any indication—or at least, he certainly did when he was still in diapers. Whether he still does, is anyone’s guess.
“Wow, I had no idea he was even interested in coming,” you manage when you’ve recovered from your surprise. “Did you bribe him?”
If Kyunghee notices that your voice is a few pitches higher than usual, she doesn’t remark on it. “Oh, you know. I just told him that this would be his last chance to score free booze on the company’s dime.” She laughs. “Three more months and it’s going to be all beaches and sunshine for me. I might even become a cruise person in my retirement.”
You gasp and slap a hand to your heart. “Kyunghee! Think of the environmental impact!”
“I said I might!” she retorts immediately. “Sheesh. Even in my old age, it’s hard to conveniently forget how shitty and unsustainable those damn boats are.”
You pick up your mug and raise it in a salute. “Well, the oceans thank you.”
“My husband doesn’t,” she answers with a sigh. “He’s been dying to book one of those trips that stop all along the Mediterrannean coastline, and I can’t exactly blame him.”
“That is tempting,” you admit. “You’ll have to send photos, if you do end up going.”
“You’ll be sick of me and my photos before the first day is even up,” she promises. Then she pauses, her eyes darting toward the kitchen where silence has fallen in the last few minutes. “Speaking of being sick—you think the vultures are still hovering around in there? I haven’t had lunch yet, and I need the microwave.”
Obligingly, you edge a little closer to the kitchen doorway and poke your head around the frame, scanning for Lottie and her sidekicks. “Coast is clear. Enjoy your lunch, Kyunghee.”
She nods and raises her mug at you, returning your salute. “I always do.”

As soon as the work day ends, you fall into your usual routine. Your commute home is easily walkable on nicer days, and though the winter weather is brisker than you’d like, you decide to walk for the sake of stopping at the convenience store on the corner of the block.
Once you arrive back at your apartment, you change into your comfiest sweats and a loose tee. You turn on some music while you throw together some dinner, and settle onto the couch half an hour later with a full plate and Netflix. Television is a welcome distraction from the events of the workday, and you manage to get through three full episodes of your current show before your pesky brain decides to revisit the events of today, replaying the conversations that you’d both had and overheard.
There’s no denying that you’ve been single for quite some time now, and for the most part, it’s been by choice. Ever since graduating from university, you’ve chosen to focus more on your career, and it’s paid off both in terms of the important position you hold in your company and your above average salary. And yet, you can’t help but think back to the gossip you’d overheard earlier—about the supposed tragedy of being single and attending the upcoming holiday party alone. Your mind wanders to Kyunghee’s son, Hoseok, and how he’ll be in attendance this year. You wonder what he’s like, and whether he really is perfect for you, as Kyunghee seems to be so fond of mentioning.
And then your mind goes to Jay.
You met Jay two months ago, on a well-deserved night out after a hellish workweek. The bar was crowded, and the music coming from the neon dancefloor in the back was just loud enough to drown out your inhibitions. That, combined with the alcohol swimming through your system, made you bold. You sashayed your way across the dancefloor, dodging inebriated bodies and swaying limbs as you fixed your attention on the head of pale lavender hair and deliciously broad shoulders that awaits you just behind the bar counter. The bartender is nothing short of gorgeous, and you’ve thrown all caution to the wind. Sure, several other women are eyeing him like he’s their next meal—several men are, too—but you need another drink. And while he prepares it, you plan to flirt.

The bar counter is sticky with spilled liquor, but you don’t pay that any mind as you lean across it, the wood digging into the narrow strip of exposed skin left by your cropped top. “Hi!” you call, and the bartender looks up from where he’s just finished pouring a round of shots for a group of raucous young men.
“Hi yourself,” he says, his pillowy lips stretching into an easy smile. “What can I get you?”

Sighing, you push up to your tiptoes, stretching your arm as far as it can reach. Your fingertips graze the shelf, but you can’t quite get a grip on the box itself. Glancing down, you scan the bottommost shelf and wonder if you can step on it to give yourself a boost.
“Need a hand?”
The voice comes from behind you, and a vague sense of familiarity sparks in your brain. Slowly, you turn around, and your entire body freezes when your gaze slides up to the speaker’s face.
“Jay.” The syllable escapes you in a near whisper. “H-hi.”
“Hey.”
Jay stands before you, looking like sin incarnate in a faded denim jacket, black sweatpants slung low on his hips, and not much else. At his throat, his silver necklace sparkles, the silver J pendant glinting beneath the fluorescent lights of the store, and you’re suddenly beyond grateful that you decided to put on a decent sweater before leaving.
“Here,” he says, stepping forward until he’s close enough that you can smell his cologne—sandalwood tinged with sweet citrus. “Let me help you with that.”
The sudden proximity has your breath hitching in your throat. Your heart thuds erratically against your ribs as he reaches around you, the denim flaps of his jacket gaping in a way that exposes even more of his bare chest. By the time he pulls back with your cereal box in hand, you feel almost faint, belatedly realizing that you’d been holding your breath.
“You wanted this, right?” Jay asks, and you aren’t sure if you’re imagining the innuendo underlying his words or the teasing inflection of the syllables.
“Y-yeah, that’s the one,” you manage, fighting to quell the uneven tempo of your heartbeat as you accept the box. “Thanks.”
“Happy to help,” he replies. Then he leans in, close enough that you can feel his warm breath fanning your cheek as he murmurs his next sentence into your ear. “Anything for you, princess. You know that.”
Heat floods across your cheeks. Your heart skips two full beats before taking off into a sprint, and it’s impossible to ignore the way your core begins to thrum, as if anticipating a repeat of that night you first met all those weeks ago. Almost instinctively, your eyes dart up to the ceiling where the security cameras are, and Jay follows the trajectory of your gaze with a low chuckle and a soft brush of your cheek with the pad of his thumb.
“Sorry, princess. As much as I’d love to get my hands on you, I’m kind of on a time crunch today.”
You can’t stop the wave of disappointment that washes over you, even if you’re in the exact same boat. “Rain check, then?”
“Rain check,” he agrees. Slowly, you reach up to touch the engraved silver pendant resting against his chest, rubbing it between your fingertips before tracing the curve of the J, and he catches your wandering fingers between his and presses a gentle kiss to your knuckles.
“You know how to reach me,” he murmurs with a mischievous wink. His gaze lingers even after he’s released your hand, and you clear your throat awkwardly before turning to deposit your cereal box into your shopping cart.
The two of you go your separate ways then, exchanging goodbyes. You finish the rest of your grocery shopping in a daze, idly going through the motions at checkout and letting muscle memory guide you back home. Your arms are aching by the time you step past the threshold of your apartment, and you heave your shopping bags up onto the kitchen counter with a relieved sigh before returning to the entryway to toe off your shoes. You throw together a sandwich as you unpack your groceries, taking a big bite as you walk back to your bedroom to look at the dress you’ve picked out. Pacing over to the closet, you double-check your shoe choice. Briefly, you debate whether or not to wear flats instead of heels.
There are still a few hours left before you have to start getting ready, so you take the last of your sandwich back to the kitchen and whip up a smoothie to go with it. You scroll through your phone as you eat, browsing through the latest news headlines and scrolling through your social media accounts. Just before six o’clock, as the sun starts setting beyond the horizon and casting long shadows across your living room, you start getting changed. You snap a photo in the mirror once you’re dressed, pulling up Jimin’s name in your phone and sending it to him.
[6:13pm] You: last chance to come tonight
Your phone buzzes with a response almost immediately.
[6:14pm] Jimin: nah. i’d hate to step on hoseok’s toes.
You laugh. Not so fast, you text back. We don’t even know anything about the guy yet. What if he’s boring? Or sexist?
[6:15pm] Jimin: if u think kyunghee raised a sexist you’re seriously deranged

Each year, the holiday party tends to be a little over the top, and this year is no exception. The company has bought out the entirety of a restaurant for the evening, and you glance around in amazement at the twinkling lights and lush evergreen boughs decorating the walls and strung up along the ceiling. An assortment of sparkling ornaments hangs from the massive tree in the far corner, interspersed between silver tinsel and more lights. Grabbing a champagne flute off a passing server’s tray, you head farther into the restaurant, skirting around tables draped in creamy linen and greeting your colleagues and friends.
“Is she alone?”
“Figures.”
The voices come from the direction of the open bar, and somehow, you just know that they’re talking about you. Lottie, Hyejin, and Sandra are clustered in the corner with glasses of wine in hand, casting glances around the restaurant and gossiping about anything and everything with a pulse. You’re sorely tempted to grab the nearest pitcher of water off a table and pour it over their heads, but you suppress the urge and instead head over with a saccharine smile. “So lovely to see you, {Name},” Lottie says as you approach.
“I love your dress,” Sandra adds. “Very slimming.”
“Thanks,” you reply, putting on your brightest, fakest smile. “Yours is great too. How are you and your husband enjoying the party so far?”
Sandra’s face sours, and you hide your smirk in your champagne flute. Maybe it’s petty to bring up her rocky relationship, but you’ve been subject to snide comments from Sandra and her friends for years now and it’s become increasingly hard for you to bite your tongue. A few tables away, you spot Sandra’s husband, Rodney, take an enormous gulp of his whiskey and wince as it burns down his throat.
“We’re all having a wonderful time, aren’t we, ladies?” Lottie cuts in when Sandra takes too long to answer. “Hyejin’s date is over there with Rodney, and my boyfriend is fetching himself a drink. You remember Dev, don’t you?”
You nod, even though it’s a lie. “Sure. Say hi to him for me.”
Lottie’s lips curve up into a smile, her head tilting to the side, and you’re suddenly reminded of a snake rearing its head back for the kill. “So, what about you? Have you brought someone tonight, or—?”
“Hi ladies!” Kyunghee materializes at your side, her lips painted a festive red shade to match her dress. She’s wearing the disingenuous smile that she reserves for the resident gossips of your office, and you try not to let your relief show on your face when Lottie’s attention refocuses on your manager.
“So good to see you, Kyunghee,” she simpers. “Have you been here long?”
“Not as long as you,” your manager replies, nodding at the near-empty wineglass in her hand. “I see we’re already making a dent in the wine supply, and you’re falling behind, {Name}. Why don’t we go remedy that, hmm?”
She doesn’t give you a chance to respond, grabbing your arm and leading you away. Kyunghee is surprisingly spry for a woman her age, and you follow after her with some difficulty as she marches through the throngs of conversing people, all the way to the line at the open bar.
“I’d like you to meet someone,” she says, gesturing at the man standing at the end of the line with his back to you. “{Name}, this is my son, Hoseok.”
The man turns around at the sound of his name, a warm, affable smile stretched across his face. “Hi, I’m H—” he begins, but he’s cut off by your sharp intake of breath. His eyes go wide, his smile fading as his mouth falls open, and you’re certain you’re wearing an even more dumbfounded expression. “It’s you,” he says, his voice hoarse.
“Wh-what… how…” You trail off, speechless. The words flounder and die in your throat as your brain struggles to process this development, and you practically feel the way the gears in your head churn to a stuttering halt.
Because this man standing before you, the one that Kyunghee has just introduced as her son, is none other than Jay. He looks completely and utterly devastating in a navy waistcoat and matching slacks, a green tie shaped like a Christmas tree knotted loosely around the white collar of his shirt. His dark hair is parted, his undercut exposed, and you can’t tear your gaze away from the loose strand that has fallen across his forehead.
“H-hi.”
Jay—Hoseok—swallows. “Hi.”
Kyunghee glances between the two of you, her brows furrowing. “I take it you two already know each other?”
Hoseok’s ears begin taking on a scarlet tinge, the color spreading to his cheeks as he struggles to find his vocabulary again. “I—yeah. Yeah, we’ve met.”
“Right. Do I even want to know how?” she asks dubiously, before shaking her head and huffing out a sigh. “No, forget I asked. I don’t want to know. I’ll just leave you two to… catch up.”
Waving goodbye, Kyunghee disappears back into the crowd of partygoers milling around. Hoseok turns back to you, sucking in a deep breath, and you fight the urge to stare down at your toes as his gaze roves across your face.
“I can’t believe this,” he says, breaking the silence that’s fallen between you at last. “My mom’s been talking about you for months, but I never imagined that it’d be you.”
“You’re telling me,” you reply, finally having recovered your voice. “Kyunghee brings you up all the time, but I never thought… I mean, we didn’t even know each other’s names, and now…” You shrug. “Here we both are.”
“It’s a pretty crazy coincidence, huh?”
“Definitely.”
A beat passes, and then two. You’re fully aware that you’re staring, but you don’t dare blink, afraid that he’ll disappear if you close your eyes. Of all the things that you thought might happen tonight, this particular meeting wasn’t even close to making the list. Never would you have thought that the man you only knew as Jay would turn out to be Kyunghee’s son. Never would you have connected Jay to the photographed little boy in yellow suspenders on Kyunghee’s desk, or realized that they were one and the same.
From behind you, someone loudly clears their throat. Another voice calls for you to get a move on, already, and both you and Hoseok belatedly realize that you are still standing in line for the open bar. Hoseok’s eyes go wide again, and you nearly tread on his toes when you both try to move forward. “After you,” he says with a chuckle, gesturing for you to go in front of him, and that’s enough to break the tension. You step ahead of him with a laugh, catching up to the line, and Hoseok doesn’t stray far as he follows your lead.
“So, what are you drinking?” he asks, a smile playing at the corner of his lips. “Vodka soda with a twist?”
“Actually, I think I’m going to stick with wine tonight,” you reply, peering at the bottles lined up on the counter. “What about you?”
“Hmm. Jack and coke, I think. Nothing else is really calling my name right now.”
Grabbing your drinks, the two of you begin searching for a place to sit. You spot Kyunghee at a table near the front, and she smiles knowingly and offers you a thumbs-up when she catches your eye. Eventually, you settle on a table near the Christmas tree, the lights glimmering off the glasses and reflecting off your knife as you pick it up to butter a slice of crusty bread from the basket in the center. Hoseok follows your lead, grabbing a piece for himself, and the two of you munch in silence for a few seconds before Hoseok breaks it.
“You know, my mom says you’re the perfect girl for me” he says with a dry little chuckle. “Think she’s right?”
“I don’t know,” you answer. “It’s funny, though—Kyunghee’s been telling me the same thing. She sings your praises all the time.”
Hoseok laughs and scratches the back of his neck. “Oh, jeez, that’s kind of embarrassing. I’m glad she’s saying good things, at least.”
“You don’t have to worry about that,” you tell him, grinning. “She’s only shown us one photo album from your childhood.”
His face crumples. “Was it the Disneyland one?”
You nod, fighting back laughter, and watch as Hoseok groans and lets his forehead meet the linen-covered tabletop with a dull thunk.
“I don’t like rollercoasters,” he mumbles into the tablecloth, his voice muffled by the material. “They make me queasy.”
“Even now?” you ask, and he nods.
“Yep.”
The clinking of a fork against a wineglass—amplified and broadcast through an array of invisible speakers built into the restaurant’s walls—interrupts any further conversation. You twist in your seat to watch your company’s leadership give their opening remarks, listening as they congratulate everyone for a great year and wish you a happy holiday season. The servers begin going out with plates of food, and you thank them as they set yours down. Hoseok does the same before raising his glass in your direction, clearing his throat and offering you a crooked little smile.
“Here’s to second meetings.”
“Third, if you count the store earlier,” you correct, and he chuckles and nods in agreement before clinking his drink against yours.
You spend the entirety of dinner chatting with Hoseok, getting to know him beyond the few facts Kyunghee has mentioned and what little you’ve gleaned from texting him the last two months. He tells you all about his dance studio, Hope World, where he teaches both contemporary dance and the occasional Pilates class. You find out that in addition to rollercoasters, he also dislikes sour foods and raisins, but he loves mint chocolate and sweet and sour pork. He also has a very low tolerance for alcohol—something he tells you as he tilts the rest of his drink into his mouth. “Should I be worried?” you ask as he sets his glass back down, and he chuckles and shakes his head, sending the loose tendril of hair flopping across his forehead.
Dessert is served, and subsequently eaten. The music is turned up, and people slowly begin finding their way to the open space that serves as an impromptu dancefloor. Hoseok rises to his feet and extends a hand toward you, and you only hesitate for the briefest of seconds before accepting it. He leads you out amongst the other swaying couples, his hand finding its way to the curve of your waist, and you rest your hand on his shoulder as he begins guiding you in a slow, simple waltz.
“So?” Hoseok’s voice is a low murmur, soft and gentle against the shell of your ear. “What’s the verdict?”
You blink. “The verdict?”
Even without looking, you can tell that he’s smiling. You can hear it in the lilt of his voice, and imagine it in the curve of his lips. “About me,” he clarifies, carefully pulling back so you can spin in a circle beneath his outstretched arm. “About us. My mom will never let me hear the end of it if she turns out to be right, but I still wanna know. So what are you thinking?”
“Are you asking if I think we’re perfect for each other?” you ask, giggling. “I don’t know if I believe in all that, to be quite honest. Destiny and soulmates—I mean, doesn’t it seem a little too good to be true?”
Hoseok hums. “Maybe. But considering all that’s happened to us in the last couple of months, don’t you think there’s a chance that it's all more than simple coincidence?”
“Maybe,” you concede. “Still, I don’t know if I can give you a verdict just yet. We haven’t even gone on a date.”
“We did do things a little backwards,” Hoseok admits, tugging you close and winding his arm around your waist. “Let me make it up to you, then. Are you free tomorrow?”
“What if I am?” you challenge.
“Then, I’d like to take you out for breakfast,” he replies without missing a beat.
The prospect of a proper meal with Hoseok Jung does something funny to your insides. Still, something makes you hesitate, and you avert your gaze as you search for your next words. “I wasn’t expecting to end tonight with a date,” you admit slowly. “I honestly didn’t even think you were interested in… well, anything beyond sex, to be honest.”
Hoseok’s face creases into a frown, and you look up again when he murmurs your name. “I understand why you would think that,” he says. “Really, I do. But honestly? I had every intention of texting you and asking you out properly. I was going to play it cool and wait a few days, which was stupid in retrospect. And then you texted me first.”
“I texted y—” You trail off. “Oh, god.”
“It seemed like you’d been drinking,” Hoseok says with a shrug, and you press a finger to his lips before he can say anything more. You remember the night in question, and you remember the bottle of wine you’d consumed. And you definitely remember the photographs you’d sent of yourself, and the ones Hoseok had been kind enough to send in return.
“Wait, so you were going to ask me out? And then I… I sexted you?”
Hoseok nods, and you groan and bury your face into his chest.
“I can’t believe this,” you mutter, and you feel laughter rumble through his chest before a hand comes up to stroke along your back.
“Believe me, I’m not complaining,” he assures you. “But I’d still really like to take you out, so what do you say?”
His gaze doesn’t leave yours for a second as he awaits your answer, and your heart skips a beat when you look up to see the earnestness in his eyes and the hesitant smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “Breakfast sounds wonderful,” you whisper, and the smile that blossoms on your companion’s face is nothing short of radiant.
“Good,” he says. “Great. Breakfast tomorrow, then. Now, can I kiss you?”
You’re already pushing up to your tiptoes, your fingers fisting in the soft hair at his nape. “God, yes.”

“Hey, you made it!”
You beam. “Hi.”
You and Hoseok are about to commence your first date, having just sat down at a cozy little café for breakfast. Hoseok has pulled your chair out in true gentlemanly fashion, and you can’t help but smile over your menu at the few lingering snowflakes that have yet to melt into his dark hair.
“So, here we are,” you remark. “Our fourth meeting.”
Hoseok’s lips stretch into his signature grin, breathtakingly bright and infectious. “And hopefully many more.”
You grin at him. “Yeah? Too bad this is breakfast, because I’d drink to that.”
He leans forward, his grin widening. “Next time,” he says as his hand finds its way around yours, his fingers slotting comfortably into the spaces between your own. “We can do dinner, maybe. Or I can cook for you. But for now, I’m just happy that we’re finally doing this.”
You give his hand a soft squeeze. “Me too.”
“Just promise me one thing?”
The sudden seriousness of his tone has your brow furrowing in concern. “Sure, of course,” you reassure. “What is it?”
He winces. “Please don’t tell my mom about all the dick pics.”

Prompt -  Hi! I just read most of your imagines, and i loved them!  You have me as your faithful follower, I don't comment much because English is not my first language. Could you write one where az manages to perceive that reader is pregnant right in the middle of the war?
You woke to yelling. Not screaming. Not fear or pain, but battle cries that you'd grown to love. They made your blood sing in harmony with the Illyrian voices. It made your heart hammer in your chest, and your muscles tense - ready to fight. Azriel groaned beside you, curling around your waist like a vise. You managed to break free from his muscled arms. Pale light shining through the tent tinted his shadows a light gray. They wrapped around you, drawing a chill down your spine. The war cries grew louder. "Get up. It's time." You shook him, pulling on your light armor. He covered his face with his hands, and did not leave the cot. He groaned again when you pulled the blanket off his mostly naked body. He was never a morning person.  Cassian rushed in when you were putting the last of your gear on, and Az froze. His grip on his pants went white knuckled. Cassian's face was pale, and before he could say anything Azriel was hurriedly pulling on the rest of his clothes. Your stomach dropped at the sight of the Warlord. "It's a diversion." You said, voice hollow. Cassian's slight nod was enough to make the breath leave you. "It's going to be fine." Azriel grunted, pulling his tunic over his head. "We just need to move the troops. Get Rhys here." He waved a hand at his brother dismissively.  Cassian grabbed Az's wrist.  He forced the male to look at him, to see his worried eyes. You tensed, ready to defend your mate even against Cassian's might. "Rhys is on the battlefield already. We're on our own." His voice was low, and the warning in his eyes was enough to make the hair on your arms raise. Azriel pulled away from him, slowly.  He began strapping his weapons belts on, pushed his hair back and sighed. "Where do you need us?"   The air was cold, and the howls of battle echoed across the hills. Azriel's shadows curled around your legs, comforting. Then they slithered their way across the valley where the battle was beginning.  + You could barely raise your sword by the end of it. The mud had been the most challenging part of the entire fight. The enemy horses had done a good job of making obstacles when they fell in the mud, lame with broken ankles and necks. You wished to put them out of their misery, but there was no time. The forces seemed to come in waves. Like a test against your small unit.  Few were lost from your side. The dewey grass steamed in the morning light, carrying up the reek of enemy blood with it. You wiped your face, trying to get the taste of dirt and blood out of your mouth. Sharp stinging pain seared your ribs under your arm. You hissed. Then, you felt the warmth of your own blood. You swore, and looked for a medic that wasn't tending to wounded on the ground.  Some Illyrian bodies were being lifted away, high into the air for burial at their homes. You dared not take a healer away from more critically injured soldiers. You nodded grimly to the ones that you passed. They were covered in blood, and yet still gave you fierce grins when you went by. They respected you. More than any other Illyrian Female before you. It was sad, but you hoped to forge a new path for other females of Illyria. You held an arm under your side and limped your way out of the mud. The packed mess inside your boots made moving your feet hard. You couldn't wait to shower.  You spotted Cassian far down the field, and watched as he raised his sword high over his head. Your stomach twisted in pity for the suffering animal under him. You looked away before you could see the lifeblood drain from the horse's neck. He sent a blessing to the Mother for the animal, and continued on to the next suffering soul that would meet its end via his blade.  + You hadn't seen her in a long while. Too long for a friend, but she gave you that same look she always did when she saw you hobbling up to her for help. Jeva was your favorite healer, and one you knew could keep a secret. She was round, and her voice was light and comforting. She smelled of nutmeg and berries. Something you had appreciated about her since you had met. "What is it this time?" She waved you inside, holding the tent flap open for you while you dumped your battle stained gear on the wood hutch beside the entrance.  The tent was light and airy, filled with small plants of different varieties and cluttered with boxes and books everywhere. Her desk and bed were shoved to the corner, and a long wood table took up the majority of her area. As if she had known you were coming, she already had potions of different types laid out on the end of the table. "Probably nothing." You said, pulling off your armor as gingerly as you could manage. The soft light flickered and changed to a harsh beam when she laid you down on her exam table. "I'm not supposed to be healing anymore you know. I'm retired." She clicked her tongue at you, earning a pained grin. It was hard for you to bother a healer for any amount of time for something that you were sure was so small. But something about it stung too much for it to be just a scrape. And you knew Cassian would lecture you about it being infected if he saw through your mask to the pain. Az would force you to see one anyway as soon as he learned of it.  "You know I wouldnt be here unless I had to be, Jeva." You said through your teeth as she cut away your muddied undershirt.  "Oh, I know. That's why I have my best potions ready." She laughed, then paused. Your shirt lay limp on the table. Her eyebrows knitted together at the sight of your open wound. "Is it bad?" You asked, craning to try to look for yourself. She held you down.  "Metal. Fragments are still in here, likely why it hasn't healed yet." You relaxed at that, grateful that it wasn't worse. "Thank the Mother. Az would have yelled all night." You rolled your eyes, and sighed as she started working on you. The first part was always the worst. The stinging hot potion that made the nerves around the wound numb.  "One-" She began her countdown, then poured. You growled at her, gripping the end of the stained table hard enough to crack. "Easy..." She warned, and smoothed down your hair. She knew how to take care of her patients, that was certain. You relaxed as the stinging eased. The dull ache that it left behind turned into a bad memory.  "I'm going to extract the blade then we can close you up. Simple and easy." She picked up her tools and began tugging away at your side. You could have fallen asleep with the relief the numbing potion brought. And with her humming in the air around you, it was a struggle not to. The time seemed to pass quickly, but when the clank of the metal tools jolted you from your dozing, the tent was lit in orange from the sunset outside. "Relax, we're going to close it up now. Once the potion wears off you will still be sensitive." She placed her hands over you, and the familiar warm vibrations of her healing magic set in. Then it stopped abruptly. You cracked open an eye, then narrowed your brows at her. "What is it?" You said gently, then again when she didnt reply. She stared at you, mouth agape. Her eyes locked to yours, even when you sat up to demand she tell you what the problem was. "Am I dying?!" you took her hand gently, in case she was going to push you away.  Then she started laughing, her hand gripping yours back. The warmth glowed in your palm, the light radiating out from it was starkly contrasting the tent walls bedecked in orange. The light she emitted shot through you, and you felt the wound tingle, and seal. You stared at her in shock. That amount of healing power was incredible. Especially for field medics.  "Youre not dying, no..." She waved a hand, fanning herself. Her eyes were glassy with tears. She sniffed and clutched your hand tighter. "Quite the opposite, darling." She pulled you in for a warm hug.  + You spent the rest of the evening with Jeva. Until she got a hurried message about student healers needing help on the battlefield. You stayed in her tent as long as you could manage with the ringing in your ears. You stared and stared at the mirror across from you, showing you the bloodied warrior that you wanted to be. That you wanted to stay.  The warrior that carried the Shadowsinger's child.  The thought made tears sting your eyes. You refused to let them fall. You had been ignoring his tugs down the bond for well over an hour. You knew he was concerned, but you couldn't bring yourself to shout back down. The only thing that echoed in your mind were Jeva's words "You're pregnant..."  Pregnant. Pregnant. Pregnant.  You nearly punched her when she told you she wasn't joking. The only reason you even believed her was because of that powerful zap of healing she sent to you. That she sent to scan your body and make sure the fetus was okay before you even knew about it. You could barely hear half the words she said as she told you your options.  You roiled with the thought now. The Mugwart she left on the table was daunting. You desperately wanted her back. Jeva would be able to deliberate with you. You knew she would tell you to do whatever makes you happy. You knew that. But you wondered how ethical the choice that made you happy was. Bringing a child into a world of war seemed cruel. Even if it made you happy. You distantly noticed Azriel as you passed him, walking to the forest edge just passed your tent. Worry laced the bond between you. You tried not to show anything back. But you knew he felt the tension, the void there. "Where the hell have you been?!" Azriel's eyes were furious when you passed him, his wings flared out slightly. You couldnt even look at him with anger back. Your emotions ran wild. You were frozen, and as numb as the potion Jeva had given you when she began removing the blade.  "Do you know how worried I have been?! I sent Cassian to-" He tried to grab for your hand to stop you, but you flicked him away. He stopped for a moment, stunned. Then returned with more energy than before. That yawning abyss in your bond was growing darker with shame, worry and anxiety. His shadows roiled around him as he caught up. "You dont get to-" "Azriel..." You stopped in the edge of the clearing. The small meadow was silent in the darkness, not even the monsters of Prythian dared roar tonight. Your mind did all the roaring you could handle, anyway. You tried to focus on the swaying grass, on the soft smell of wet bark and pine hanging in the air.  "Dont try to excuse this I need to know you're okay and-" He stormed in front of you, ready to burst with rage. His fear always made him angry. And for good reason after losing so many close to him.  A tear ran down your cheek, your face burned hot with hundreds of feelings at once. Fear, pain, shock, joy, hope.... elation. You wanted his children. You wanted to help raise his child. You wanted to see Azriel be a father. You knew he would be the best damn Illyrian father there had ever been.  The thought hit you like a well placed punch.  He saw your paleness, your tears and stopped his yelling. You fell to your knees, the mud splattering all around you. You wanted to lay down. Lay down and think about the implications of carrying his child. Would it be good for the baby to be born at all? Just because you wanted it didnt mean it needed to happen. You knew that Jeva would give you a potion to extract it without hesitation if it was what you wished. "I'm-" You choked out, fighting the panic that flooded you. Your mind roiled with the conflict of your mind and heart. It turned you into a muddied, dark ocean on the bond. A turmoil that he couldn't see past. If you were an ocean, he was your lighthouse on the cliffside. Signaling you home.   His eyes darted to your body, to your hands and how they wrung together in front of you. "I'm sorry. I just-" He sighed and took one of your hands. "I'm sorry." He kissed the back of it and brought his forehead to yours. He normally needed a lot longer to cool down after a fight, but seeing you in tears shocked him out of his pride. "I shouldn't have said that... I know you can take care of yourself." his voice was low, and he ran a hand comfortingly down your back. A hysteric laugh bubbled from your throat. It sounded like a sob. You didn't know exactly which it was. He sat back and pulled you into his lap, despite the grass being dewey and damp. He rocked you there for a few seconds before you had to tell him. Before he could be too close if he didnt want you anymore. The doubt crept into your head, and the nerves ate at you. Your heart raced, you could feel it in your neck. "Azriel..stop." You pushed away from him, to catch his beautiful dark eyes. They were painted in a silver hue by the moon above. You took in his face, the curve of his cheeks and lips for possibly the last time. You had to consider the worst possible outcome. You braced yourself for the rejection, for the pain of his reaction. You knew it had to come out. You knew you had to say it now or you never would. Your stomach flipped over and over.  You opened your mouth, a soft sob wracking out of you before you began. He froze. Went utterly still, his shadows even stopping for a second before whirling faster than before. Your eyes went wide. His nose flared, eyes narrowed. He held you closer, sniffing at your neck. He pulled back and his eyes were even wider than before. His mouth fell open when you nodded. "I'm-" "Youre-" his face went through a whirlwind of different emotion. Then, he broke out into a small laugh. He couldn't stop. You felt the tears running down your cheeks and didnt bother to wipe them away. "Honey... I'm sorry." He stopped laughing suddenly. "What do you want to do?" His eyes were masked, his expression the most serious you'd ever seen him. His aura on your bond seemed to go completely gray and still, as if he didn't want you to see him. He masked everything. In preparation for whatever you decide. The gesture made your heart squeeze in appreciation. You stammered, resting your forehead on his. "I dont know." You muttered, voice cracking. Then, he was wrapping his arms around you in a smothering hug. When he pulled away, he cradled your face in his hands. The hands that had seen so much cruelty in his life. The possibilities of the same thing happening to your child made your heart race. "I'm here for whatever decision you make." He brushed your cheek with a thumb. You nodded and let him hold you like that for a while. Quietly rocking back and forth with you in his lap. + You were near falling asleep when the war cries rang out again. Illyrians howling for their leaders to join them. Another onslaught of death coming their way. The calls were distant, but Azriel tensed the second he heard them. Your blood went cold. He buried his face to your chest, as if he wished he could hide there. "I'm not going." He said when you tried pushing him away. "I wont leave you." He promised, locking his muscled forearms around you. The echoes of battle cries faded. He stroked your hair, and traced his fingers along your back. Then he swore. "Let me take care of this." He said, voice edged with anger. Nerves pricked at your stomach, but you stood, wobbling on your feet slightly. He took off into the night sky painted in silvers and blues by the full moon. Then came racing back down right behind Rhys. the high lord took one breath and then he was hugging his brother. Azriel shoved him off, and they shot into the night sky. Well, Azriel did. He dragged Rhys with him. Grunts of pain and fleshy sounds of punching rang out.  You followed them high into the air where they had their conversation. Your wings led you around them with ease. "Stop fighting and use your words, boys." You warned. You recognized Azriels growl and smiled to yourself as they broke apart. Rhys adjusted his tunic and cleared his throat. "I need you there. Cassian is handling the Western front, the others need a leader."  Azriel began protesting against the high lord. "I cant with my mate-" "I know it feels impossible right now but-" "I will not, Rhys-" You set your jaw. If they wanted to fight over if you needed protection or not, you would take the option off the table all together. "I'll go." you said, voice strong since hearing Jeva announce what grew inside you. Pregnant, pregnant, pregnant. You shoved the thoughts away as far as you could. They both turned to you, horror striking Azriels features. "Absolutely not. No." Heat and rage flared down the bond. It made you want to defy everything he said. You locked eyes with him and glared. Rhys glanced between you with tense shoulders. He cleared his throat. "It would be a good compromise, Azriel. You can go together to the Eastern front. Think about it." He placed a hand on his brother's shoulder and gave him a grim smile.  "I wont say a word." He said, summoning the darkness around him then winnowing away. Azriel's cold eyes made him look like a statue. "Let's go." He said, and started circling lower. Back to the meadow.  "I'm going, you cant stop me from following you." You said, expecting a fight. He said nothing. You were met with that silence that drove others crazy tryin to find out what he wanted from them. The bond seemed to snap taut, then go into a relaxed state. He was hiding. You knew it, but would rather have silence and peace than him trying to fight you again.  He walked you back to the tent, and exhaustion took you under before you could remember him laying down with you. You hoped it it was exhaustion, and not whatever the baby was doing to you. Despite your best efforts, you couldn't resist the urge to cradle your belly while you slept. There was no bump, but it felt like the most natural thing to do now that you were aware of the being inside you. You slept hard, and awoke to the breakfast bell chiming. The sounds of slow footsteps marching through the mud kept you awake. Azriel was gone, but the candle on the table was lit. A note lay there waiting for you. His messy scrawl made you smile, the familiarity of his writing reminded you of the notes he would leave you when he had to leave early for meetings with Rhys. "Back by nightfall, lover. A guard is at the tent, ask her to bring you anything you need. -A" You peeked outside the tent to see Jeva there, her long fur coat shimmering in the morning light. Her breath clouded in front of her when she gave you a soft smile. "Good morning." She pulled a muffin from her coat. "Your favorite." She winked, and you pulled her inside. She had a fire roaring by the time you finished your food. "How are you not freezing?" She complained, blowing into her hands to keep them warm. You brushed the crumbs from your shirt and really took into account the changes you'd noticed lately. How hungry you'd been, how tired after the easiest days.  "Do you know... How um..." You gestured to your stomach. She gave a small smile and nodded. "Only a month or so." She said quietly. You stared at your stomach, as if waiting for something to answer you. To give some sort of affirmation that Jeva was right. She continued warming herself by the fire, and soon the tent was filled with her warm chestnut smell. Cassian entered the tent when you were starting to doze off again. The wool blanket on your lap reminded you of a time when you first met Az. Your heart squeezed at the memory of those long nights shared together by a fire. Taking your turns on watch duty. You shook yourself from the memory. Cassian froze. His face scrunched up at the sight of you. The scent, you realised. You swore to yourself, and Jeva only nodded when he looked to her. "Youre pregnant?" He asked breathlessly, and you could smell the fear and excitement coming from him. In fact, you could smell the smoked meat on his breath. And the cold air that clung to him from outside. It was refreshing, like a cool drink on a hot day amid the dry heat inside the tent. "I'm sorry, I shouldnt have.." He ran a hand through his hair, trying to remain focused.  "Its okay, Cass. What's going on? Az left me this note." You handed it to him. His lips moved as he read it. He went white as bone. Your stomach dropped.  + Azriel had gone in the night to take out the entire eastern flank with a small group of Illyrians. You felt your world skittering away as Cassian told you. Your vision went blurry, and tears fell, dripping on your hands that clenched the wool blanket.  "He's on his way here now. He had to answer to Rhys first."  Cassian waited for you to say anything. But your lips just couldnt form the words. The hurt, anger... the betrayal you felt for him going to battle without you. And defying a direct order from his high lord like a fool. "I suggest you leave before Azriel comes back. It may get messy." Jeva spoke for you, and you were grateful. You gave Cassian a nod of thanks before he turned and left. The cold wind that blew in from the door gave you goosebumps.  "Take it easy, you dont want to be too stressed." Jeva handed you a mug of tea and gave you a small squeeze. You could smell Azriel before he entered. Jeva shot him a glare, but said nothing. "I'll be in my tent if you need me." She promised, gave you a look that said 'find me after' and left. Azriel took off his armor plates one by one. A bit too slowly to be considered normal. Stalling. You said nothing. You let the tension roil out of you, let it hit him down the bond. Like a wave getting ready to break. He rolled his shoulders, stretched his wings.  The mask he wore cracked when he saw your fists balled in the blanket. "I couldnt risk you... or the babe." He tried to hide the fear that shone through. The fear of his mate or child being hurt in battle. He wouldnt be able to stand it. The fight was needed, anyway. He needed to get out his instincts to protect protect protect.  You said nothing. You let that looming wave grow larger. He sighed, and sat at the end of the cot beside you. "I'm sorry. I needed....I needed to get my head straight. I should have told you. I'm sorry." That wave crashed, not on him though. Internally, guilt and fear melting in on yourself. "I cant lose you, we... We cant." You said through your teeth, trying to hold back the tears that begged to spill over. He tried his best to hold back his surprise. "We?" He asked, a small smile playing on his full lips.  You gave him a grim smile. "If you're...ready to be a father. I like imagining you, with my child."  "Our child." He said with a bubbling laugh. You laughed with him, and it turned to hysterics.  He wiped tears from the corner of your eyes. "We're going to have a baby?" He cradled your face, looking into your eyes. You took one of his hands, and placed it on your flat belly. "Yes. We are." You said, voice quivering.  He wrapped you into a hug, and you cried together in the cot.

Author's Note : I love reading Yandere fics so I just wanted to write one!! Its very different from what I usually write... So proceed with caution.

The first time I met Jungkook , it was five years into my relationship with Namjoon.
Namjoon had told me all about his baby brother, a final year student in SNU. Jungkook majored in Business , training to take over the company business . Namjoon often mentioned that it was Jungkook's offer to switch majors that had helped him pursue his own dream of being a music producer.
So when he told me that Jungkook was on a break from university and his parents were looking forward to having a proper family dinner with all of us, I was excited to meet the boy , I'd heard so much about. Namjoon was endlessly fond of his little brother and I wanted him to like me just as much.
Namjoon and I had met seven years earlier in the University Library and had become fast friends. We were both quiet, intellectually driven individuals, preferring to spend our time in the library as opposed to partying with our friends. And yet, in a twist , against our family’s wishes, we had chosen not to pursue an academically driven career either. I’d always felt out of place in my own friend group, most of my friend from Journalism being extroverted and fun loving. Namjoon for his part had only two very close friends, Yoongi and Hoseok and preferred spending time by himself as well.
So it was only natural that we fell in with each other with ease. His beautiful dimpled smile tugged on my gut, even as his gentle nature and gorgeous mind made my heart pound. I fell in love with him, between the late night laughter in the library and the soft secrets whispered against my skin, in the privacy of his bed.
“Nervous?” His voice drew me to the present, fingers inking with mine as he lightly knocked his shoulders against mine, staring down at me with a dimpled smile. I shook my head quickly, squeezing his hand gently.
“Of course not. I just want him to like me.” I whispered and Namjoon chuckled.
“Jungkookie isn’t very expressive so don’t worry if he isn’t very vocal in his affections. He’s very shy with new people but I’m sure, he’ll love you.” Namjoon reached out and lightly, brushed the hair off my face before leaning down and giving me a quick kiss.
I gripped his waist, pressing in closer, lips parting instinctively  , eager to chase the taste of him. He groaned and gripped my elbow, pulling me around to press up against the tall , lean strength of his body and this was it, this endless need to touch him even after seven whole years of being together. I moaned when he bit down on my lips, my back arching a bit to press into him.
“Hyung?”
We parted, surprised and I felt my face flame, lips slicked wet and no doubt red from where Joon’s teeth had sunk in.
What a first impression.
“Ahh… Jungkook-ah… You came out?” Namjoon looked a little flustered, dimples peeking out in an abashed smile as he laughed embarrassedly I found myself smiling at Jungkook, who looked nothing like I’d imagined.
I’d been expecting someone cute and friendly.
Jungkook was dressed in all black, tall and intimidating. He was also almost surreally beautiful, gaze piercing and steady as he stared at me. I felt an instinctive urge to hide, not missing the way his gaze trailed up and down my body, lips parting gently to reveal a pair of bunny teeth that looked jarringly adorable on a face that was , quite simply put, arrestingly gorgeous.  
He hummed, still standing in the doorway, eyes trained on me and I swallowed when he smiled , wide and open. His tongue darted out, lightly licking his lower lip .
“Hi, Hana.” He said softly and I startled.
“Hana? I’m sure you mean noona…..” I laughed nervously and even Namjoon looked surprised and Jungkook merely smiled, shrugging.
“You don’t feel like a noona.” He said casually.
I merely stared at him, not sure what he meant. Namjoon laughed a little as well, moving over to lightly hug his brother.
“Yah! You’ve just met her. Isn’t it too soon to start being a brat?” He ruffled his hair playfully before turning to me.
“Come on, Hana. Come say hi to my parents.” Namjoon walked in and I rushed to follow him, pausing when I reached the doorway. I smiled at Jungkook, holding a hand out slowly.
“I’ve heard so much about you Jungkook, I hope we can be friends…” I said sincerely and he stared at my hand, not taking it. Instead he gave me another soft smile. Before leaning down and pressing a kiss to the back of my hand, making me jump .
“You don’t feel like a friend either.” He said with a shrug , before moving away, leaving me stunned on the doorway.

Two years later :
“Seven months? Namjoon we’re getting married in seven months! How am I supposed to plan a whole wedding , with you away from the country?” I asked desperately, watching as Namjoon sat with his head in his hands. He looked stricken, regretful and pained and I felt terrible for being unreasonable but it was impossible not to feel hurt.
“I know..  I know hana, I’m so fucking sorry. But this is such a huge opportunity and its not just me : Hoseok and Yoongi depend on me. I can’t screw things up for them too.” He whispered and I exhaled.
Namjoon had been offered a chance to produce for a very high end recording label based out of the US and they wanted him to stay there for a minimum of seven months. The offer had been a complete surprise, out of the blue and the timing couldn’t have been worse. I’d been accepted into an internship at a popular magazine and it would be impossible for me to go with him. And I was so desperate to go.
We’d never been apart for more than a few days, in the entirety of our relationship and the thought of not seeing him for months made me want to throw up.
“I’ve spoken to Jungkook. He’ll help you with all the things that have to be done. And I swear that I’ll be back at least a month before the date, alright? No matter what happens.” Namjoon said firmly. I swallowed, nodding nervously.
It was true that I didn’t like the idea of being away from Namjoon. But the thought of keeping him away from a dream that he had worked so hard for, was almost unfathomable.
Besides, Jungkook was reliable and sweet. The perfect gentleman. Especially now that he’d taken over as his father’s Executive Assistant, Jungkook was incredibly good at organizing and planning things out.
With his help, I could plan out our wedding to perfection.

The next five months were spent in a haze of appointments and fittings and bookings. Jungkook had arranged for a shift in my internship hours, so he and I could spend a solid four hours every day, visiting different vendors, picking out the perfect floral arrangements, napkins, brocade and what not. And for once, I found myself completely enthralled by the idea of spending money of frivolously pretty things. Whether it was the florists or the patisserie, the dress fitting or the invitations, I felt my excitement bubbling over , amazed because marrying into Namjoon’s family meant an unlimited budget and for once, I didn’t mind being extravagant.
What was more, I didn’t miss Namjoon nearly as much as I thought I would. Because deep down , I knew that he wouldn’t have enjoyed this all that much. And I would have felt guilty , dragging him everywhere.
And Jungkook was the one to thank for all of it. He picked me up everyday for an early breakfast , followed by hours of combing the streets for ideas and appointments. He was funny and enthusiastic, eager to help me in every way and I was so grateful that I couldn’t thank him enough.
“I owe you so much, Kookie. You’ve been a life saver.” I groaned, collapsing on the couch and dropping my head back against the backrest. Jungkook chuckled, sitting down on one of the Turkish ottomans and lightly grabbing my ankle, pulling my foot onto his lap. I flushed a little, still not used to how touchy he was.
Jungkook liked wrapping his arms around my waist when we were out and about, fingers fluttering up my sides or brushing hair off my face with easy familiarity. I didn’t mind. He reminded me of my little brother back in Ilsan.
Most of the people we met assumed he was the groom and Jungkook told me it would be better to keep up the ruse because wedding planners were more comfortable when couples came together and I’d agreed, albeit a little reluctantly. I missed Namjoon and I wondered if he would mind. But when I mentioned it in passing to him during one of our daily video calls, he’d merely laughed it off.
“You’re so tense, Hana. You should relax. Everything is going to be okay.” Jungkook said softly, soft fingers digging into the curve of heel before brushing the arch of my foot. I smiled when he tugged my foot close, placing it down on the firmness of his thigh.
I gazed down at him, feeling uncomfortably nervous. This whole thing seemed oddly intimate somehow and I felt the first tendrils of guilt begin to curl around my gut. I swallowed, hating myself for tainting something that was no doubt innocent. I ought to be grateful that my future brother in law was this kind to me.
“I know. Thank you. I just miss him sometimes.” I said softly. The fingers stilled on my foot.
“Only sometimes?” He teased, eyes narrowed and tone just a little colder and I hesitated.
“I don’t miss him when you keep me company. You help me forget that I’m doing all of this by myself.” I said honestly. Jungkook inhaled sharply, his gaze flicking to mine, holding mine with an intensity that made me balk a little.
“You mean, that?” He asked quietly and I laughed at how serious he looked.
“Of course I do.  I was so sure this whole thing would be me being miserably lonely but you’ve kept me laughing and happy. I’m going to ask Namjoon to buy you something expensive and amazing when he comes back.”
“He already has something amazing. It’s the only thing I really want.” Jungkook said quietly, fingers stroking up, gently massaging my foot all the way up my calf. I groaned at how good it felt.
“Really what is it?” I asked curious.
Jungkook squeezed my knee before carefully placing my foot down , reaching for the other one.
“You’ll know soon, Hana.”

True to his word, Namjoon called me exactly a month before our wedding date.
“Guess who’s leaving the God forsaken place this weekend?”
I felt warmth flood my insides, heart racing with pure joy, tears brimming over because I’d honestly resigned myself to the fact that he wouldn’t be able to make it back on time.
“Monday i, I’ll be there. Can’t wait to kiss you, my love.” He whispered and I nodded, laughing.
Finally, Everything would be okay.

Namjoon’s flight was due to arrive late night ,somewhere between twelve and one in the morning. I’d taken a nap in the afternoon, so I could be up to welcome him back. Jungkook arrived at around seven with Takeout and flowers.
He didn’t ring the doorbell, letting himself in with the spare key I’d given him for emergencies. I found myself scrambling for my robe because I’d taken a nice long shower and slipped on a silk negligee, short and ending just over my knees . I could feel his eyes on me as I hastily tied the sash together, flustered. The robe wasn’t long either and I felt absolutely exposed, even worse than when he’d stepped into the dressing room during my fitting, offering to help me with the zipper.
“ Jungkook, what are you doing here?” I asked nervously and he shrugged, eyes still trailing over my legs, the skin bare. I felt his gaze like a caress and some instinct told me I was in danger. I shook my head to clear it. How ridiculous.
This was Jungkook. Sweet, wonderful Jungkookie. My best friend these past few months. There was no one else I could be safer with.
“I knew you’d be excited, what with hyung coming back and all. So, I thought I’d drop by and at least make sure you’re well fed.” He grinned, holding the tae out up. I smiled and nodded, moving to get plates and glasses from the kitchen.
I heard Jungkook moving around in the living room and when I went back in , I found that he had two glasses of wine ready on the table, an expensive bottle of merlot opened nearby. I smiled a bit, shaking my head.
“What are we celebrating?” I asked curiously and he shrugged.
“Namjoon hyung is coming back right? It means I’ll be getting my amazing gift tonight.” He said softly, picking his glass up and taking a sip and I rolled my eyes.
“You’re such a child. You can’t wait for a day to get your gift?”
Jungkook hummed. He looked ethereal in the dim golden light of the apartment. Like something out of a fairytale. All dark ebony hair and porcelain skin. I wondered, again….why he never dated. He was easily one of the most beautiful humans I’d ever seen in my life. And that voice.
The voice of an angel.
“I’ve been waiting for years, Hana. I’m sick and tired of waiting.” He said softly, voice low and eyes somehow dark and I tried to hold my smile.
“Well, I hope you enjoy it.” I grinned and he smiled, all teeth.
“Oh, I intend to. Thoroughly.”
I took my own glass and took a deep sip , before holding it against his.
“To no longer waiting and finally getting what we want.” I said cheerfully, thinking of the long months without Namjoon and the few hours till he would be back in my arms. Jungkook chuckled and clinked his glass against mine.
“To you, Hana.” He said simply and I blushed, surprised and flattered.
We ate the take out but just a few bites in, I felt my eyes getting heavy which was so unfair. It was barely eight. And I’d slept in the afternoon. What was wrong with me? I was supposed to be up till Namjoon came home.
“You alright, love?” Jungkook asked sweetly , getting out of his chair and making his way over when I almost knocked the glass of water over, fingers trembling. I pouted, even as his fingers curled over my shoulders, gripping lightly.
“Why am I so drowsy?” I whined in desperation and he leaned down, lightly resting his chin on my shoulder.
“You need to rest, hana. Come on, let’s get you to bed…. “
Eyes heavy and limbs turning to jelly, I could barely blink as he reached down and scooped me into his arms , carrying me into the bedroom. I felt his fingers tug on the sash of my robe, a protest building up at the action but he shushed me gently.
“I’m just helping you out of this, Hana. Rest now… Namjoon hyung will be here soon and we have a long night ahead of us, you and I.”
I could feel my mind churn at that, confusion warring with apprehension because why was Jungkook inserting himself in tonight? What did he have to do with Namjoon and I ?
Sleep beckoned and I found myself slipping into the darkness before I could fully ponder on his words.

I woke up sweaty and damp , body overheated and my head foggy. I made to move and felt my heart pound when I realized my hands were tied up to the headboard. I blinked, only to be met with darkness because there was something tied around my eye as well.
“Jungkook?!” I called out panicking and there was a low chuckle.
And then a very familiar scent.
Namjoon.
I sagged in relief.
“Joon…it’s you….” I breathed out . “ Come on, do we really have to do this right away? I wanna see you…” I whispered desperately.
Fingers brushed over my ankle and I jumped.
“Namjoon?” I whispered . The bed dipped next to me, and I felt the brush of his shirt against my bare arm. It was soft and silky , familiar because I’d bought it for him for his birthday and he’d sent me a pic of him wearing it, from the airport today.
“Okay… I’ll play.” I laughed softly. “ Just untie me… I wanna touch you..”
“Sshhh…..” A finger pressed against my lip and I startled. Throat dry, I gulped.
But I didn’t say anything, biting my lips nervously as I felt him climb over me, one knee on either side of mine, fingers curling on my thighs, lips pressing against my cheek. I sighed, relishing the soft press of his lips, up and down my neck, the damp wetness of his tongue as he licked the skin right after, teeth nipping gently and then with more force.
I trembled as soft fingers tugged on my negligee tugging the fabric up and away from my body, raising it up till it pooled near my chest. I felt the tug on my panties, yanking the fabric off and then the weight of him went away, a breathy exhale that sounded both calm and somehow desperate, his body moving down to lightly hold my knees, parting my legs.
I bent my knees, spreading my thighs the way he clearly wanted me to, hearing him groan in return. He used his thumbs to gently part the damp folds of my centre and I felt my entire body shudder at the press of his tongues against the most intimate parts of me.
Choking, I could only lay there and take it, his tongue licking the slick folds, over and over again with an almost curious insistence, like he was tasting me for the first time and I could feel his body trembling on the bed as he did. I felt his teeth tug on the hardened nub, bruising hard and yet somehow almost playful and cheeky and I found myself squirming in pleasure, wetness seeping out of me .
The tip of his finger found my slit, running up and done the length of it in a slow, gentle caress, gathering the moisture there and I trembled when he reached my clit, gently rubbing circles on the little bundle before moving back down to trace my entrance. I felt the clink of metal as he unbuckled himself, the sound of his zipper and the rustle of fabric as he pushed his trousers off. He pushed forward, driving in with so much force that my entire body shuddered in shock. And in just that second, I knew, with dawning horror…….
This was not Namjoon.
I screamed, so loud my own ears rang and  a palm pressed down into my mouth, forceful and unrelenting. And terrifyingly unfamiliar.
“Hana…” Jungkook’s voice near my ear made me choke on my tears, my mind splintering in shock and betrayal, body going rigid in terror as he pulled out , only to slide back in.
“Knew it would be worth it, keeping myself pure for you….” He crooned against my skin and I whimpered, wetness spilling over my eyelashes as I tried to squirm away, my mind body and soul only screaming for the man I loved.
“Don’t worry about anything ….Hyung’s in a better place now. “ Jungkook chuckled deeply and I felt my skin go ice cold at the implication. He moved his hand away and I coughed, choking.
“Jungkook….”
The blind fold came off and he kept pumping into me, hips moving erratically, no rhythm or grace and it was obvious he’d never done this before, obvious in the way he looked : blissed out and feral, eyes unfocused as he stared down at me. I felt him tremble and shake, before going still . I felt warm wetness flood my insides and bile rose, nausea making breathing difficult. He stayed on me and inside me, his body so large and immovable, heavy and suffocating over my own.
“what are you doing Jungkookie?” I sobbed out in disbelief and he glared at me.
“What does it fucking look like I’m doing? I’m taking what I fucking deserve….” He snarled. “ Two fucking years…. He doesn’t deserve you. Spends all his days and nights holed up in that studio of his with his friends….leaves you to fend for yourself. You deserve to be waited on, hand and foot… you deserve the world, hana…and he wouldn’t let you experience any of it. Fucking bastard….
“No… No.. God …no..” I choked out. It was the shirt.
He was wearing Namjoon’s shirt. And his cologne. The shirt I knew my boyfriend had been wearing today. How did he get it??
Jungkook brushed his fingers on my cheeks .
“What’s wrong baby? Are you worried about him? Wondering where he is…” He chuckled. “ I told you..he’s in a better place right now..”
“No… you’re lying..you wouldn’t…”
“Wouldn’t I? You know me that well , hana?” He teased.
No. No I didn’t I didn’t know him at all.
“How about this? If you marry me…. If you let me have this dream wedding with my dream girl…. “ He smirked,” If you let me love you the way you deserve , maybe I’ll take you to visit him…someday. ”
I closed my eyes.
I couldn’t process what I’d just heard… I didn’t know… if he was bluffing. What if he had actually killed-
I couldn’t believe that. I couldn’t. It would break me.
“Okay… Just…please don’t hurt him…” I whispered.
Jungkook smiled.
“Just relax Hana. Everything’s going to be okay.”
