Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Forve, The Guard of Entrances to Holy Places
Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic) mythological characters.  This week it’s Forve the Dwarven (Dverg / Dvergr / Dwarf). One of the Dvergr mentioned in the Thulur / Þulur.
His name has been said to mean "guard of holy entrances" or "the guard of shrines", or "the guard of courts". Probably from the old norse ‘fyrva'. A term for the ebb point on a beach for an unhallowed grave. That likely evolved into a description of more formal burial places, barrows, and other places of worship and importance. Giving it a meaning of Guard of the entrance to the holy places, shrines and courts.

Left Behind
Returning this week to Otherworld. They followed silently, though Lee could sense Tannish’s fury boiling within the dverg’s body. With each stride of his body, with the tight way he clenched his jaw, he communicated his feelings. Why, then, did Lee feel so detached from the situation? She felt muted, muffled. Like she was operating in a haze. Kind of like when she had taken far too much cough…

Andvari, the dwarf who hid in a lake as a pike. He had an enormous pile of treasure all to himself, so to keep it safe he decided to secret it away along with himself, the only one who knew where it was. What's the point of having a bunch of treasure if you can't spend it, show it off, or sleep on it? Maybe just owning it and knowing it's there is enough to him. idk, dwarfs are weird.
Also, don't ask my why his pike skin has external gills like an axolotl, because I don't remember.

Mini schnauzers are called dverg schnauzer (dwarf schnauzer) in Iceland but apparently “one dog is enough” and “you could only have one more so you would have to choose between Gimli and Dwalin” and “I’m not letting you have thirteen I don’t care what quest you’re going on.” Like why can’t you support me in this, gosh. 😢

Weaving and Threading—Chapter 7 Foundational Theories.
Tumblr media
“Swiftly turn the murmuring wheel!
Night has brought the welcome hour,
When the weary fingers feel
Help, as if from faery power;
Dewy night o’ershades the ground;
Turn the swift wheel round and round!”
William Wordsworth, Song of the spinning wheel
So was anyone gonna tell me that faeries are actually linked to weaving and threading because they were derived from fees/fatae off the Greek Three Fates as well as the Persian Peri?????
Or that Germanic fey means "fated to die"? And the transition to Old French turned fated to "doomed" and "accursed"???
Remember, with Fairy (general word) being derived from the Greek Fates its no wonder the first original fairy were women who were good with medicine threading clothes, and magic before it was applied to Brownies, who perform household tasks (cleaning stables, cutting wood, setting out breakfast, tidying etc) and undertake the clothing making process and are said to spin with mountain flax.
Faerie nobility are seen wearing robes and gowns under the palette of green; wild fae threading clothes through raw plant material or animals, enough so that the Swedish word dverg could mean dwarf or spider.
Faeries are so intrinsically tied to threading that there are stories about it: Habetrot (said to be the patron spirit of spinning) helps a girl prove her prowess at the spinning wheel so that she doesn't face an unspecified punishment from her mother.
Rumplestiltskin is about a faerie who helps a girl spin gold in exchange for her first born child unless she guesses his name.
Tom-tit-trot helps a girl spin a large ball of yarn so she doesn't get beheaded by the king in the morning but says she belongs to him unless she guesses his name.
Again, the three fates spin ans sever the threads of our lives. It would make sense that with the major death flags for a certain fae Chap 7 is def going to be about Malleus "stalling" the threads of his friends lives.
I mentioned that Fae are derived from the Persian word Peri, and are said to be demoted angels who must seek atonement before reentry into Paradise.
Yall don't think Lilia hasn't been seeking penance for his war crimes?????
How do we know if that Lilia's real name? What if there's an event where we have to reveal the rest of/Malleus true name? Will there be a sequence where Yuu has to weave thread in the eternal dream Malleus sends them to in an effort to preserve them and his friends???
What if he winds up visiting Valley of Thorns early/during their cultural event and since he wasn't "technically" invited sends everyone to sleep???-
Malleus is literally named after a book that was the basis for the prosecution of "witches" who were fae in a sense that they knew their way around magic and medicince, will a group of uninvited people attack Malleus???????????
Am I mentally ill?

The lord of the blacksmiths keeps forging on, through the endless time.
Master of the anvil alloys the metals, with an essence of magic.
There is a holy presence in his hidden existence.
Listen to the hymn, it sings in the galleries...
Powerful runes, he carves into the shining steel,
To have protection from the powers of mystery.
- Devotional Lyrics: Brokkr, Sindri, and Eitri || "Lord of the Blacksmiths" by Falconer

Discovery
Returning this week to Otherworld. Lee and the dverg had made their camp amongst the thick underbrush of the beach. At first, they had shifted every few hours, making their way around the small, odd island. Soon enough, however, they learned that was unnecessary. No one patrolled Ankou Island. No one came. There was evidence of visits in the past. Bones were found amongst the bracken, long…

Two elfs in two days, with a dwarf to boot! But what's this, this isn't an elf, nor a dwarf you might say. And to that I reply, aha! but they are! Or at least, not as we know them. These two were just a little doodle trying to mimic the "elf and dwarf combo team" that pops up a fair bit in fantasy literature, arguably the most famous example of which is Legolas and Gimli from Tolkein's Lord of the Rings. This was created with the conception of going back to the earliest roots of the elf and dwarf, however. This incarnation elf, of ljósálf if you prefer, is more of a spirit, or apparition. He walks out of alleys to give mystic advice and grave warnings, then disappears as if he were nothing but smoke and dreams. If you manage to catch him on the street, you should not acknowledge him. He's terribly shy and might take out the eye that spotted him. His design is based on the Lagnö runestone of a man holding two snakes. Modernize that with a bun and some duster or whatever and bam! Elf His friend is a less kindly sort, who makes no pretense at being helpful. He was killed, or so he thinks, ever so long ago. It's been so long he can't quite remember. Only shreds of his human remain, leaving only the dark, spiteful dwarf. He was buried in a bog that, these days, is currently an apartment complex. So he gets his revenge by seeping through cracks in the basement to terrorize the tenants. Whether he knows that they actually didn't contribute to the drainage of that bog and construction or not, he doesn't care. Not a friendly sort. His design is original, based loosely on some old armor. To be honest, they're kind of jerks. One unintentionally, acting as only a supernatural demigod knows how, but still jerks. Catch them on a quiet night though, in a bar where they coddle their drinks like tenderly parents, and you might earn something that'd made the pain worth it...

Loki & Mythology
Turns out Myth!Loki had it out for Sif´s hair as well. Just that Myth!Loki cut off all of her hair. And in the Myth it is not Sif herself who takes care of the situation but Thor who confronts and threatens Loki, who in turn promises to provide replacement. This he managed to get from skilled dwarves. Some shenanigans (involving a fly) later he could give Thor golden hair for Sif that would grow once on her head. And along the way he brought a couple other things, like a certain hammer and a spear. Just as you do on a normal trickster day.
Also the infamous sewing Loki´s mouth shut thing happens after that. The story is told in  “ Skáldskaparmál”  the second part of the “Prose Edda/ Younger Edda / Snorri's Edda”:  “43. Af smíðum Ívaldasona ok Sindra dvergs. Hví er gull kallat haddr Sifjar?”
| Tom Hiddleston as Loki  Laufeyson &  Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif  | Loki s1ep4 “The Nexus Event” |

Gullveig of the Nordic Ascendant ———————————————— 1 Level 5 or lower "Nordic" monster If this card is Link Summoned: You can banish up to 3 cards from your hand and/or field, and if you do, Special Summon that many "Nordic" monsters from your Deck in Defense Position, also, for the rest of this turn, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except "Aesir" monsters, nor Normal Summon/Set any monsters. You can only use this effect of "Gullveig of the Nordic Ascendant" once per turn. While this card points to an "Aesir" monster, your opponent cannot target that monster with card effects, also monsters your opponent controls cannot target this card for attacks. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Legendary Hero Decks (LEHD-ENB00)
The Nordic archetype branches into three groups to assist on the arrival of the Aesir monsters. Three Nordic deities with powerful abilities to rule the game on their own, the build mainly consists of materials for their Synchro Summon as well some tools to make them even tougher to defeat. While usually a Deck arround these cards will focus on the arrival of a particular Aesir, Nordics gradually provided additional tools allowing them to summon any of its three leading Synchro Monsters when the situation requires their pressence.
"Gullveig of the Nordic Ascendant" is the Link Monster addition many archetypes are obtaining in recent years, offering an assortment of effects to immediately Synchro Summon as soon is out on the field. AS oon "Gullveig" is Link Summoned, we can banish up to three cards in our hand or field to then summon that number of Nordic monsters from the Deck in Defense Position. This will restrict us from any further summons for the rest of the Duel, with the exception of summoning Aesir monsters by Special Summon. But "Gullveig" can remain present on the field as long its arrow points an Aesir, not only becoming untargettable from attacks but also making itself and the Aesir protected from targetting effects. Overall "Gullveig" might seem a very expensive monster despite being a Rating 1 summon, but the trade off of banishing cards to swarm the board with materials and follow with a protected "Aesir" makes this Link Monster a strong option to start Duels with.
"Gullveig" compensates the cost of its summoning effect with a very cheap Link Summon, easily accesible by the majority of Nordic monsters residing the Main Deck. Some monsters like "Dverg of the Nordic Alfar" and "Mimir of the Nordic Ascendant" provides summoning effects before and after being the main material of "Gullveig", making us not as dependant of its effect to gather materials during a Duel. Due the Type diversity of the archetype we can mix together options from outside the theme to further assure a material for this Link Summon, like "Rescue Rabbit" bringing copies of "Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts" among other candidates. Truly the only issue "Gullveig" has is its scarce options if revived given its effects and arrow position, but might be helpful nonetheless to Link Summon other creatures if needed.
With an ability to trade cards on hand and field to bring Nordic monsters from inside our Deck, the arrival of "Gullveig" will surely follow with the Synchro Summon of an Aesir. While in most cases we will need minimum three monsters (Including a Tuner) to bring out any Aesir there's no need to pay the full cost of "Gullveig", as some Nordic cards will provide other effects of their own before or after this monster's effect. "Alviss of the Nordic Alfar" can be banished by "Gullveig" effect to be the one performing the Synchro Summon using materials from the Deck, as otherwise can remain in the Graveyard to replace a defeated Aesier with another. Keep on mind that "Gullveig" as well the Aesir don't need Nordic cards alone for their performance, so we can use cards like "Scapegoat" and "Photon Sanctuary" to either gather materials for the Synchro Summon (The latter only able to assist us with "Odin, Father of the Aesir") or considerably mitigate the cost of "Gullveig" effect. But no matter the approach we take arround "Gullveig" it will lead to not only a powerful Synchro Monster in our field right on our first turn, but also its protective effect avoiding common threats from defeating this monster and the Aesir is pointing to.
Despite its very cheap Link Summon, "Gullveig" might seem a riskful monster given its summoning effect might leave us handless right from the start of a Duel. However, not only the Aesir are menacing monsters on their own along the protection provided by "Gullveig", but there's a variety of workarrounds to not solely depend on this monster's abilities. With Token effects cheapening its cost as well cards like "Alviss of the Nordic Alfar" and "Rescue Cat" providing their own summoning abilities, "Gullveig" true problem is that must be in the Extra Monster Zone for its maximum performance. Overall, "Gullveig" might seem a heavy investment but assures a very strong board pressence along the Aesir we will summon as soon the Duel begins.
Personal Rating: A
+ When Link Summoned allows us to banish up to three cards to summon Nordics from the Deck + If points an Aesir both become untargetable by effects as well making itself avoid being attacked + Several options to cheapen its effect and/or work along
- Its summoning effect can leave us without cards right from the first turn - Limited uses outside the Extra Monster Zone
